The Oldowan And The Acheulean
There are manifold stone tool industries, however there are two especially prevalent technocomplexes;
the Oldowan and the Acheulean. Although perhaps not the most intricate instances of implement
development, they are the oldest and describe their creators lifestyles; information that would
otherwise be all but lost. The gradual evolution of these tools over millions of years portray a clear
change in the users acclimatisation to new and varied environments, as well as their cultural
adaptations. This essay will aim to analyse, through comparison, the varying behavioural adaptations
of early Homonins, taking into account the factors of diet, ranging patterns, and the development of
social behaviour.
Oldowan technology was first discovered at the Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania, site in the 1930s by Lewis
and Mary Leakey. It has been dated to approximately 2.5 to 1.5 million years ago during the late
Pliocene and early Pleistocene (Potts 1981:153), predating any other form of currently known lithic
industries. Acheulean technology is more recent, dated to between 1.7 to 1.5 million years ago using
radiometric dating from volcanic ash (White 1998:15). It was named after Saint Acheule, Somme,
France, where Jacques Boucher de Crèvecœur de Perthes discovered the site in 1859, although John
Frere has been credited to its 1797 discovery. In terms of appearance, Oldowan tools can essentially
be seen as pebbles altered to become sharp through the procedure of relatively simple

Chandler V Cape Plc Case Summary
Chandler v Cape Plc [2012] EWCA Civ 525 was a very important decision as it traversed the limits of
common law and the fuelled the debate on how much power and influence the court has in lifting the
corporate veil to support the underhanded claims (due to limited liability) of tort victims.
Consequently, it also led to how the assumption of responsibility is determined given the concept of
limited liability. This assignment is going to analyse the decision of the case, evaluate the reasoning
and its implications, and compare the consequences of a later decision with its precedents. The case,
as per the following evaluation, was found to be pushing the borders of common law, creating both
positive and negative implications. The case was also found to be contradictory to other important
landmark cases, such as Adams v Cape Industries Plc [1990] Ch 433. The Case s Decision Chandler v
Cape Plc [2012] EWCA Civ 525 was a landmark Court of Appeals decision that resolved a tort victim
s claims from a parent company of a subsidiary where the victim suffered an industrial injury. The
court s decision relied on the existence of a duty of care on the part of Cape Plc via an assumption of
responsibility by using the three part Caparo test to determine whether there is a duty of care, and the
second and third parts of the test to determine assumption of responsibility. The decision reads:
The basis on which the judge found there was a duty of care on the part of Cape is on the basis

Impact Of Social Media On Consumer Purchasing Behaviour...
Impact of Social Media on consumer purchasing behaviour and implications for organisations
Introduction Today we live in the age of internet which has given rise to many revolutions including e
commerce, m commerce and now social media. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube are changing the way
how organisations are now targeting their customers and how it is used to engage with them in the
new age. There is wide interrelationship between uses of such platforms to communicate with the
customers. With the growing number of users on such platforms organisations see it now as an
effective way of promoting to, engaging with and analysing consumers. The extent of impact it has on
consumers is what needs to be known which the central theme of this research becomes. Research
Aim The aim of the research is to find what is how organisations are using social media to promote
their products, engage with their customers and analyse their behaviour in order to align their
strategies with the market place and at the same time how is social media impacting the behaviour of
consumers in making their purchase decisions. The aim is to know the impact of social media on the
interrelationship between organisation s and consumer s behaviour. Research Objectives This study
has three objectives as stated below: 1. To understand how organisations are using social media for
promoting their products as well as new promotion activities, how they are using this new platform to

Race, Urban Poverty, and Public Policy
The problems of race and urban poverty remain pressing challenges which the United States has yet to
address. Changes in the global economy, technology, and race relations during the last 30 years have
necessitated new and innovative analyses and policy responses. A common thread which weaves
throughout many of the studies reviewed here is the dynamics of migration. In When Work
Disappears, immigrants provide comparative data with which to highlight the problems of ghetto
poverty affecting blacks. In No Shame in My Game, Puerto Rican and Dominican immigrants are part
of the changing demographics in Harlem. In Canarsie, the possible migration of blacks into a

educational system would be further buttressed by quality child care provisions which would also
included pre first grade/kindergarten nursery schools modeled after the French école maternelle.
Wilson s other policy recommendations include suburb city economic partnerships, many of which
coincide with Jargowsky s recommendations in Poverty and Place, as well as policies revolving
around the earned income tax credit (EITC) and public jobs of last resort, which are part of policy
recommendations shared by David Ellwood and Herbert Gans (see below).
In No Shame in My Game, anthropologist Katherine Newman attempts to draw greater attention to the
plight of the working poor rather than the jobless poor. She and her research team explore the lives of
Harlem s working poor, primarily focusing on the fast food industry or burger flippers as the subject
for her largely ethnographic study. One of the important insights articulated in her study is the
extended familial structures/networks that rely on wage and welfare income as a means of survival, in
addition to providing resources such as child care: networks she identifies in African American,
Dominican, and Puerto Rican working poor families in Harlem. Thus, welfare reform restructuring
will not only impact those families who rely solely on welfare for survival, but also on those working
poor families

Difference Between Animation And European Animation
This modernization era, animations become a common thing to the modern people. There is a lot of
animation in this era from television series, films, and even in music video and animation also comes
with different types from 2D animation to 3D animation, stop motion animation and also Computer
Generated Imagery (CGI). Animations have been put to use in various purposes like commercial,
teaching or learning. Almost everyone knows about this type of animation but there is difference
between different country such as Eastern European animation and Western European animation. Even

The Eastern European animation studios usually work for the government and focusing more to the
children. Their animations usually have very strong moral value to teach children by using animations
or shows. Meanwhile, Western European animation studios create their works more independently and
focus on the people behaviors during that time. This can be seen in the Aarman Studio s works that
have many hidden message on their works that based on people behavior or even propaganda during
that time. Next, their technique of animation use different style in Eastern Animation use puppet
scuplter to made a stop motion animation but in Western Animation, Aardman studio usually use
plasticine for their stop motion animation. In addition, Western Animation also uses pixalization
technique on their animations. Eastern Europe creates their work with a high quality animation and is
also a beneficiary of the global expansion in animation. But one of the disadvantages of Eastern
Europe is low labor costs, and it benefits from work subcontracted from other territories. Lastly, there
is a downfall to various Eastern European animation studios during the revolution and transformation
into capitalism. Suddenly, the vast studious likes Kratky Film in Czechoslovakia or Czech Republic,
Zagreb Film in Croatia, Pannoniafilm in Hungary, Soyuzmultfilm in Russia, and SFA in Poland were

Elizabethan Era Faiths
During the Elizabethan Era, England underwent a continuing crisis between the Protestant Church and
the Roman Catholic Church. Queen Elizabeth had inherited a nation that had already been suffering
from oppositions of Religion. In previous years, England had undergone many changes between
which faiths they practiced. England had experienced 25 years of religious troubles, they had been
Protestant under King Edward VI and Catholic under Queen Mary I. During her reign of England,
Queen Elizabeth I wanted peace, stability, and wanted her nation s government and church to be free
from decisions based off of influential power. Although threats were made to her crown and many
religious disputes, Queen Elizabeth balanced the shifts and kept the church. She wanted a church that

William Shakespeare, a famous English poet and playwright, was an English Catholic in the time of
Queen Elizabeth s reign. At this point in time, practicing Catholicism was illegal and against the law
in England. The strongest evidence of their catholic statement was a book of faith, a Holy Bible, found
in their home in 1757. This book of faith was signed by his father, John Shakespeare. The Shakespeare
family also had several reports of missing Church. William Shakespeare s was a confirmed member of
the Church of England, through records of his children s birth, marriage and will. With this evidence,
the Shakespeare s may have been secretly Catholic, and publicly Protestant. At the time they had to
hide all traces of their religious practice so they would not be persecuted like the rest of the Catholics
practicing openly and illegally. Protestants during this time had a less challenging life. They were able
to openly practice their desired religion without persecution or the fear of being caught. Protestants
had the religious freedom that Catholics did

Elizabeth Gaskell s The Industrial Revolution Affected...
During the Victorian era, there were specific expectations set for women and men. Men expected to be
fathers and heads of households, whereas women were expected to simply be in the home, dependent
of their husbands. The only alternatives for unmarried women were either religious life or prostitution.
Elizabeth Gaskell comments on these expectations in her novel Mary Barton, especially through the
actions of the titular character, during the Industrial Revolution. While the Mary Barton can often be
read in the context of the economic changes in society, it also provides significant commentary
regarding the gendered aspects of life. To put it simply, the Industrial Revolution affected everyone
and everything; Elizabeth Gaskell illustrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gaskell characterizes her, Mary dwelt upon and enjoyed the idea of some day becoming a lady, and
doing all the elegant nothings appertaining to ladyhood. (Gaskell 79) She is initially a stereotypical
young girl, but later develops into a strong character. Because of the Industrial Revolution s
substantial impacts, Mary s characterization is a reaction to these impacts. Gaskell recognized that the
period was very dynamic, especially regarding the roles of women (Al Haj 1134). Pearl Brown notes,
Mary Barton reflects on the impact at mid century of this new culture on gender roles (Brown 346).
The Industrial Revolution served as a catalyst leading to a change of women s roles out of necessity.
Mary s characterization, especially at the latter half of the novel, is atypical. She was initially
introduced as a girl stuck in a love triangle, but after the death Harry Carson, she becomes a heroic
character, making her own decisions. Necessity was a primary factor; the Bartons were on the edge of
poverty for much of the novel. This reality forced Mary to work, much to her father s protest. He
believes he should be the primary provider; John Barton recommends she becomes a servant, a very
feminine career. Instead Mary decides to become a seamstress; Brown points out it was a job with a
possibility of a future managing a shop or perhaps owning he own (348). Mary not only becomes a
significant breadwinner for her family, but also has the

Hispanic And Hispanic Racial Discrimination
Does it matter what we are called: Latino or Hispanic? Does it change who we are as people? To an
extent, most people do not know the difference between either. Typically, people group both terms as
one singular item. However, Hispanic and Latino racial classifications are more than a broad category
for people from Spanish speaking countries. The words connote and represent a history of colonial
terminology that based its success on the failures of innocent, historically peaceful, cultural groups.
Hispanic and Latino terminology are political and economic in every sense. This paper will show that
colonial leanings to control and govern people s lives have yet to culminate, even though the era of
imperialism ended a century ago. The United States, although far from its heyday as the singular
house of power, still manages to achieve control and influence over the imperialized minds of groups
of people, specifically Hispanics and Latinos.
What is the difference? Hispanic denotes the culture and people of countries formerly ruled by the
Spanish Empire (Gause, 2011, pp. 22). On the contrary, Latino means an individual of Mexican,
Cuban, Puerto Rican, Central, South American descent or other Spanish origin or culture, regardless
of race (Gause, pp.22). However, the terminology is not very important to most in the United States,
as members of either group typically refer to themselves by their country of origin: Mexican,
Dominican, Cuban, etc (Taylor, Lopez, Martinez, Velasco,

Alexis was born with a rare disease called hemophilia. This meant that when Alexis began to bleed he
would bleed uncontrollably and it could not be stopped. Rasputin treated Alexis as if he were his
nanny, reading him stories, curing his headaches, but most importantly, controlling his bleeding. It was
said that all that Rasputin had to do was merely tell him that it will stop and somehow, without any
explanation for the occurrence, the bleeding would stop. However Rasputin managed to stop Alexis
suffering, the truth of the matter was that he gained Nicholas and Alexandra s undivided support and it
gave him immense power. Czar Nicholas listened to his wife so Rasputin began to tell Alexandra what
is to happen in the country. She in turn listened to him and told her husband everything. Although
Rasputin was nearly an uneducated man, he found a seat in the Duma and was elected in 1912. He
became an important political figure. In1913, the Czar pushed towards rigid antagonism toward the
Duma, Rasputin and the Czarina urged him to dissolve it altogether or at least take away all of its real
power. 1913 was also the 300th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty and the importance of the Duma
was intentionally slighted. Rasputin, in an act of defiance, sat in a seat set aside for the Duma. The

The Louisiana Purchase Affected The Boundaries Of The...
The Louisiana Purchase affected the boundaries of the U.S. because when Jefferson bought the land,
the boundaries were not clear. Spain claimed the border was about one hundred miles west of the
Mississippi River, while Jefferson was under the impression that it was around eight hundred miles
further west, which was defined by the crest of the Rocky Mountains. This lead to four different
government funded expeditions. The first was in 1804 when Lewis and Clark led an expedition
westward to determine the upper reaches of the Missouri River. Throughout the expedition Lewis and
Clark were instructed to study the Indian culture, such as plants and animals. They were able to
explore the Indian culture when they stayed their first winter in huts beside the Mandan Indians.
Without the help from the Indians they would not have survived the winter. They also had to draw out
the geography of the West. After the treacherous journey, they reached the Pacific Ocean on
November 7, 1805. They made their journey back to St. Louis and arrived back in September 1806.
The other three expeditions that took place between 1804 and 1806 were to determine the
southwestern border. The first group went down the Red River to the Ouachita River, ending in
current day Arkansas. The second group went west into eastern Texas along the Red River and the
third group ended up going too far into the Spaniard s Territory, which caused them to get arrested and

He supports him by clarifying if his one questionable deed, among a thousand praiseworthy, or, at

point is plainly stated in the last few sentences. Judge Pyncheon s problem is not that he abandoned
his son, or that he dress very nicely but, that he never looks inwardly, and resolutely taking the idea of
himself from what purports to be his image . According to the narrator looking within yourself and
taking care of yourself emotionally is above all more important than the thousands of good deeds you
could do. For The Judge when he looks into the mirror he sees a reflection the reverse of what he is
the public s opinion. This opinion and image he has built up forces him to lose sight on his self
knowledge. The only way for Judge Pyncheon to truly find himself is through loss of property and
reputation. In the public s perception, the Judge is a model of austerity and morality. He does many
good works and plays many key roles in his community that he is a praiseworthy character. As the

The Pros And Cons Of Informed Consent
Informed consent is a critical process that places professionalism and legalism into practice in the
healthcare setting. It is an approval by the patient to receive care or treatment, while having full
knowledge of the benefits or risks that may accompany it, and is generally accompanied by the patient
s signature if consent is given (Black Chitty, 2014). Often times, informed consent is assumed to be
the physical document the patient signs, however, it is actually the legal practice that provides an
opportunity for the patient to gain a complete understanding of the procedure before deciding to
consent to it or not (Black Chitty, 2014). There are three main requirements of informed consent,
which include: it must be given voluntarily, it must be given to a person who has the capability to
understand, and it has to include adequate information necessary for the patient to formulate a
decision (Black Chitty, 2014). Informed consent involves a direct communication process between the
physician and the patient regarding specific details of treatment. According to Black and Chitty
(2014), it should include information regarding benefits, risks, potential side effects, costs, and
alternative treatments. In order to be considered legally acceptable, informed consent must be
complete, competent, and voluntary; each of these conditions must be evaluated for legal purposes
(Black Chitty, 2014). Along with the inclusion of specific criteria, informed consent must be

Rhetorical Reading Essay(Revision)
Since they started pouring the concrete for the dam Lake Powell has been a center of controversy.
From nature preservationists to ancient ruins advocates the subject has been heated and intense. On
the other hand, those who support Lake Powell are just as avid and active in their defense of the
reservoir. One of the former, Edward Abbey, sets forth his plea, hoping it does not fall upon deaf ears.
Abbey attempts in his article to help the reader visualize Glen Canyon before it was dammed up. He

the present. His article seems to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These effects are perfectly normal when working with a reservoir and as he points out are not
permanent. Sodden garbage strewn about, dead trees, sunken boats, the skeletons of long forgotten,
decomposing water skiers; (147) These are all attempts to bring the reservoir in a negative light but
these do not come from the reservoir but from careless patrons and the inevitable accidents. If the
number of people who visited Lake Powell visited the former Glen Canyon area, the garbage and
deaths and other negative aspects would be at the same ratio because some humans are simply careless
and draining a reservoir is not going to change that.
Often times Abbey tries to appeal to our emotions through connotation and metaphors by creating a
picture perfect image of what Glen Canyons used to be like with its varied flora and fauna and
beautiful landscape. Unfortunately this attempt is flawed because anyone who has ever been to Lake

Why I Want To Pursue A Fine Arts Degree In Film
Films are an insight into human imagination, and each unique film offers the audience a chance to
experience worlds that would never exist. While literature also appeals to human imagination, adding
a visual element never fails to enhance the experience for audiences to encompass the storytelling of
directors, screenwriters, cinematographers, and even film producers.
Storytelling has been apart of my life since before I can remember. I vividly remember going to a
midnight showing of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith even though I fell asleep and awoke to Anakin
Skywalker slain by Obi Wan Kenobi on Mustafar, I knew films had impacted me in a way that I could
not describe at such a young age. As I aged, I gave movies so much thought that I became ... Show

Working at the movie theatre proved difficult at times, but I fell deeper in love with applying my
knowledge of movies to working concessions or ushering auditoriums because I have over one
hundred coworkers that provide different insights on films, film scores, actors, and actresses in
modern Hollywood. There is no doubt in my mind that pursuing a career in Film Production, with a
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Film Production and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration will be immensely significant to my future. I cannot think of a better platform that will
emphasize my passion for politics and my passion for films. The decision for pursuing a film career
not only comes from my love for films, but also my passion for breaking the glass ceiling that
oppresses many women and men of color from pursuing their dreams in Hollywood because success
for one of us is success for all of us. A career that appreciates the high quality of cinema and the
business of individuals who want to create art is something I could never have asked for until now.
Combining my love for managing projects and my love for cinema with my love for politics, it is clear
to me that pursuing a career in film is the right path for

Write An Essay On The History Of The Supreme Court
The United States is one of few countries that have not only a written constitution but one that has
endured for over 200 years and seems to continue to dominate the political discussion. Foreigners may
look at Americans as weird due to their devotion to this document and that many look at a document
to answer our question. Justice John Marshall s decision in Marbury v. Madison where he established
the idea of judicial review by declaring section 13 of the Judiciary Act of 1783 unconstitutional and
really reinforced the supremacy clause in Article VI of the US Constitution ushered in a new era of the
Supreme Court; one that showed how important the institution really was and would lead to further
interpretation of cases such as Martin v. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There seems to be two prevailing theories of interpretation in the Supreme Court the first being
originalism which has been used most famously by both Justice Black as well as Justice Scalia
although both reached their decisions by different methods. Justice Hugo Black and Justice Antonin
Scalia were both originalist although they did differ in their methods. Originalism has a few main
beliefs one being that judicial power should be constrained to exactly what is the original meaning of
the Constitution. Some primary methods for the interpretation of the Constitution in regards to
originalism are intent, that is what the framers and ratifiers intent was when the Constitution was
written, textualism which can also be plain meaning like Scalia as well as the literal words in the
Constitution and original public meaning being the original conventional semantic meaning. The other
prominent theory is that of the living constitution or sometimes called non originalism as well as
evolutionism. The theory of the living constitution has the basic premise that the Constitution was not
meant to be static or frozen but to evolve as we progressed as a nation and has sometimes been
referred to as the workable government approach as it was called in United States v. Nixon in an
opinion delivered by Chief Justice Burger.
In order to understand what Originalism is it is important to look at Justice Antonin Scalia who was at
the forefront of the Originalist movement

Laertes also tells her how shameful it would be she got caught into his seductive trap, and she would

Alain Lockes Who And What Is The Negro
With the exception of Native Americans, there is no race of people that originated in America. Yet
today, we all come together under the colors of red, white and blue, sing the National Anthem and call
ourselves quot;Americans quot;. Despite our differences in religion, norms, values, national origins,
our pasts, and our creeds, we all combine under one common denominator. Alain Locke addresses this
issue of cultural pluralism in his article, quot;Who and What is `Negro ? quot; In this article, Locke
states that, quot; There is, in brief, no `The Negro . quot; By this, he means that blacks are not a
uniform and unchanging body of people. He emphasizes that we, as Americans, need to mentally

And by using the terms quot;internal splits quot; and quot;environmental conditioning quot;, Locke is
possibly referring to intra racial racism, such as the long standing conflict between light and dark
skinned blacks or the conflict between the black middle class and the black working class. Locke uses
all these points to exemplify that blacks do not represent a consistent entity, but a diverse and varying
group of people.
Locke furthers this argument by using even more examples if diversity within the black race. Using
different types of Judaism as an comparative example, Locke proceeds to refer to many different
strains of black people quot;...the conformist and non conformist strains, the conformist elite and the
racialist elite, the lily white and the race patriotic bourgeoisie, the folk and the ghetto peasant and the
emerging Negro proletariat. quot; These all represent types of black people. He is speaking of the

Essay about controlled assessment final
Controlled Assessment question:
How might the business you have chosen improve the way that it motivates its staff?
Introduction
For my controlled assessment the business that I m going to focus on is Jaguar Land Rover. I will be
analysing how they motivate their employees based at their local production plant which is in castle
Bromwich, Birmingham as this is also local to where I live. The ownership type for this business is a
public limited company; which is run by Tata Motors. Jaguar Land Rovers headquarter is located in
Whitley, Coventry. They employee 19,000 employees directly. Jaguar Land Rovers manufacture and
sell vehicles. They have been in operation for 90years.

This will cause staff to start their work early as they are then already at work. A consequence of this is
increasing their employee s attendance and punctuality therefore productivity increases.
Another advantage of offering free food to Jaguar Land Rover staff is that they are encouraged to do
overtime. This is because their dinner would already be paid for. This can cause employees to do extra
work and increase sales. Resulting in the business to gain more profit.
However, offering employees free food can be a weakness in some aspects. For example, jaguar can
lose money by offering their employees free food. This is because jaguar land rover in castle
Bromwich has over 2500 employees which would then result it being very expensive for them all to
take advantage of this motivational method. Moreover causing Jaguar Land Rover to lose profit and
therefore won t be able to afford the equipment to not only make cars but specialised ones.
Another disadvantage of offering free food to Jaguar Land Rover staff is that the company may be
open to health risks. This is because the chemicals and fumes, machinery and being round dust could
create health hazards within the food content being served. The consequences of this are, more
employees will take time off work to recover and reduce the amount of cars produced.
I conducted some primary research and asked 5 members of staff what new methods of motivation
they would like to see jaguar adapt to

Since prehistory, mankind has alter the environment for survival. For example, around 9000 B.C.E,
humans had cleared the land in Southwest Asia and sub Saharan Africa for agriculture. Humans have
innovated existing technologies to improve their adaption to the environment. In 3500 B.C.E, ancient
Sumerians develop the wheel. Wheeled plows carts allowed more efficient planting and transportation
of goods, while chariots provided new methods of invasion. Technologies has continued to improve

that occurred in technology was weaponry. The reason for this change was humans need to protect

Knowing that your child has a birth defect or an abnormality can make the delivery very emotional.
An older woman trying to deliver a baby may also have more difficulty with the delivery depending
on how healthy and in shape she is. That may also affect the labor process as well and how fast it will
go. Although, the most common birth defect in children with mothers of an advanced maternal age is
Down syndrome. Down syndrome occurs from a chromosomal defect. The mother must also be
motivated to keep herself healthy in good shape during and before the pregnancy (if planning to get
pregnant). The mother must want to maintain a good health status in order to make the pregnancy a
successful one, no matter the age. She must follow all the doctor s orders and go to her regular check
ups as needed. Usually, by not following the doctor s orders is where abnormalities and defects can
occur. The doctors make the mother aware of the consequences that can happen when they don t do
what is asked of them during the pregnancy and what can happen if they do the complete opposite.
The complete opposite would be eating bad, not caring about their health status at all, not drinking
enough water or drinking an excessive amount of sugary or alcoholic beverages, smoking, using
drugs, not taking the pre natal vitamins, and not exercising as much as they could be. All of these
things can result in

Design Of Modern Architecture And Navigation
Design in modern architecture is an increasingly organic process in which architects attempt to build
unconventional forms and structures. In the ancient world, geometry was used as a practical tool to
solve problems in fields such as architecture and navigation. As fragmented knowledge grew,
mathematicians felt the need to approach geometry in a more systematic fashion. (Thorgeirsson 3) The
key for understanding the structure of organic forms is abandoning Euclidean geometry, which does
not describe the elements of the natural world. Instead it merely simplifies it using ideal forms such as
line, circle, square, cubes. (Gawell 35) A dynamic development of digital tools supporting the
application of non Euclidean geometry enables architects and designers to develop both visually
appealing and structurally sound buildings. In the era of generative design and highly advanced
software, spatial structures can be modeled in the hyperbolic, elliptic or fractal geometry. This paper
focuses on non Euclidean geometry and its use in architecture. One of the non Euclidean geometries
used in modern architecture is elliptic geometry. It is also known as spherical geometry, a special case
of the Riemann geometry for a constant and positive curvature. (Gawell 35) In elliptic geometry, all
the straight lines are closed lines with a finite length and two different points may be connected by
two segments. Historically this nothing new in architecture. Elliptic geometric elements have been

Stereotypes In The 19th Century Essay
By the 19th century, it was purported that there were a number of changes in the world that had taken
place (Kasinitz, 1995, p. 7). There was evidence of a profusion of new goods and services, mass
communication and industrial strife (Kasinitz, 1995, p. 8). However even though majority of the
societies were urbanized, not all the citizens had access to these various luxuries. This is where Mayne
s argument about the imagined slums emerges when the stereotypes were established through the
means of media and the government. In this essay, the slum stereotypes written about in the 2 extracts
by Gissing and Bellamy will be explored. Moreover there shall be an attempt to illustrate how the
stereotypes are related to Mayne s argument.
Both the extracts portray Hoxton and Boston as areas that are poverty stricken. The authors manage to
set a gloomy atmosphere by the descriptions they use. Not only are these excerpts examples of the
authors imaginations, but they also portray slums as social abominations (Mayne, 1993, p. 1).

the people don t live in poverty, but the negativity in the descriptions is overly emphasized. Bellamy
and Gissing could have used the slum stereotypes so that they can enlighten the readers of the
conditions that the working class actually live under. This is because most of the people during this
century were unaware of the reality such as Bellamy who only realised the urban poor when he was 18

After failure to sell any Avon products to her neighbors, Peg takes a desperate risk and decides to visit
Edwards mansion. As she drives down the road we watch her pass the innocent looking pastel houses
and head straight for the dark, threatening castle on the hill. These opposing colors evoke fear and
panic within the viewers. Feelings of discomfort flow throughout the audience as we watch Peg leave
her comfortable and safe life to venture through the unknown. Burton s use of color helped the
audience differentiate the abnormalities of Edwards mansion compared the normal lifestyle of Pegs
neighborhood. This not only told the audience that Edward is an outcast, but as the movie went on and
we grew a liking for Edwards character, it made us realize that being an outcast is better than being
someone your not. As we can see through all of these examples, his expertise with the use of color
assisted the connection between the characters and the audience s feelings.
Furthermore, Tim Burton is well known for his use of close ups throughout his films. Not only does
this technique bring attention to the characters emotions, but it helps these emotions flow throughout

In Ralph Waldo Emerson s essay Self Reliance, Emerson discusses the perception of self reliance. Self
reliance to Emerson is a concept of trusting personal thoughts and knowledge opposed to agreeing and
submitting to the preconceived notions already forced upon individuals within a society. Even though
personal beliefs and thoughts can be swayed and influenced by outside forces if one choses to listen to

Although perhaps not the most intricate instances of implement development, they are the oldest and describe their creators lifestyles; information that would otherwise be all but lost. The gradual evolution of these tools over millions of years portray a clear change in the users acclimatisation to new and varied environments, as well as their cultural adaptations. This essay will aim to analyse, through comparison, the varying behavioural adaptations of early Homonins, taking into account the factors of diet, ranging patterns, and the development of social behaviour. Oldowan technology was first discovered at the Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania, site in the 1930s by Lewis and Mary Leakey. It has been dated to approximately 2.5 to 1.5 million years ago during the late Pliocene and early Pleistocene (Potts 1981:153), predating any other form of currently known lithic industries. Acheulean technology is more recent, dated to between 1.7 to 1.5 million years ago using radiometric dating from volcanic ash (White 1998:15). It was named after Saint Acheule, Somme, France, where Jacques Boucher de CrèvecÅ“ur de Perthes discovered the site in 1859, although John Frere has been credited to its 1797 discovery. In terms of appearance, Oldowan tools can essentially be seen as pebbles altered to become sharp through the procedure of relatively simple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Chandler V Cape Plc Case Summary Chandler v Cape Plc [2012] EWCA Civ 525 was a very important decision as it traversed the limits of common law and the fuelled the debate on how much power and influence the court has in lifting the corporate veil to support the underhanded claims (due to limited liability) of tort victims. Consequently, it also led to how the assumption of responsibility is determined given the concept of limited liability. This assignment is going to analyse the decision of the case, evaluate the reasoning and its implications, and compare the consequences of a later decision with its precedents. The case, as per the following evaluation, was found to be pushing the borders of common law, creating both positive and negative implications. The case was also found to be contradictory to other important landmark cases, such as Adams v Cape Industries Plc [1990] Ch 433. The Case s Decision Chandler v Cape Plc [2012] EWCA Civ 525 was a landmark Court of Appeals decision that resolved a tort victim s claims from a parent company of a subsidiary where the victim suffered an industrial injury. The court s decision relied on the existence of a duty of care on the part of Cape Plc via an assumption of responsibility by using the three part Caparo test to determine whether there is a duty of care, and the second and third parts of the test to determine assumption of responsibility. The decision reads: The basis on which the judge found there was a duty of care on the part of Cape is on the basis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Changes in the global economy, technology, and race relations during the last 30 years have necessitated new and innovative analyses and policy responses. In When Work Disappears, immigrants provide comparative data with which to highlight the problems of ghetto poverty affecting blacks. In No Shame in My Game, anthropologist Katherine Newman attempts to draw greater attention to the plight of the working poor rather than the jobless poor. She and her research team explore the lives of Harlem s working poor, primarily focusing on the fast food industry or burger flippers as the subject for her largely ethnographic study. One of the important insights articulated in her study is the extended familial structures/networks that rely on wage and welfare income as a means of survival, in addition to providing resources such as child care: networks she identifies in African American, Dominican, and Puerto Rican working poor families in Harlem. Thus, welfare reform restructuring will not only impact those families who rely solely on welfare for survival, but also on those working poor families ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elizabeth Gaskell comments on these expectations in her novel Mary Barton, especially through the actions of the titular character, during the Industrial Revolution. (Gaskell 79) She is initially a stereotypical young girl, but later develops into a strong character. Because of the Industrial Revolution s substantial impacts, Mary s characterization is a reaction to these impacts. Gaskell recognized that the period was very dynamic, especially regarding the roles of women (Al Haj 1134). Pearl Brown notes, Mary Barton reflects on the impact at mid century of this new culture on gender roles (Brown 346). • 12. Hispanic And Hispanic Racial Discrimination Does it matter what we are called: Latino or Hispanic? Does it change who we are as people? To an extent, most people do not know the difference between either. Typically, people group both terms as one singular item. However, Hispanic and Latino racial classifications are more than a broad category for people from Spanish speaking countries. The words connote and represent a history of colonial terminology that based its success on the failures of innocent, historically peaceful, cultural groups. Hispanic and Latino terminology are political and economic in every sense. This paper will show that colonial leanings to control and govern people s lives have yet to culminate, even though the era of imperialism ended a century ago. The United States, although far from its heyday as the singular house of power, still manages to achieve control and influence over the imperialized minds of groups of people, specifically Hispanics and Latinos. What is the difference? Hispanic denotes the culture and people of countries formerly ruled by the Spanish Empire (Gause, 2011, pp. 22). On the contrary, Latino means an individual of Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Central, South American descent or other Spanish origin or culture, regardless of race (Gause, pp.22). Spain claimed the border was about one hundred miles west of the Mississippi River, while Jefferson was under the impression that it was around eight hundred miles further west, which was defined by the crest of the Rocky Mountains. This lead to four different government funded expeditions. The first was in 1804 when Lewis and Clark led an expedition westward to determine the upper reaches of the Missouri River. Throughout the expedition Lewis and Clark were instructed to study the Indian culture, such as plants and animals. They were able to explore the Indian culture when they stayed their first winter in huts beside the Mandan Indians. Without the help from the Indians they would not have survived the winter. They also had to draw out the geography of the West. After the treacherous journey, they reached the Pacific Ocean on November 7, 1805. They made their journey back to St. Louis and arrived back in September 1806. The other three expeditions that took place between 1804 and 1806 were to determine the southwestern border. It is an approval by the patient to receive care or treatment, while having full knowledge of the benefits or risks that may accompany it, and is generally accompanied by the patient s signature if consent is given (Black Chitty, 2014). Often times, informed consent is assumed to be the physical document the patient signs, however, it is actually the legal practice that provides an opportunity for the patient to gain a complete understanding of the procedure before deciding to consent to it or not (Black Chitty, 2014). There are three main requirements of informed consent, which include: it must be given voluntarily, it must be given to a person who has the capability to understand, and it has to include adequate information necessary for the patient to formulate a decision (Black Chitty, 2014). Informed consent involves a direct communication process between the physician and the patient regarding specific details of treatment. Another advantage of offering free food to Jaguar Land Rover staff is that they are encouraged to do overtime. This is because their dinner would already be paid for. This can cause employees to do extra work and increase sales. Resulting in the business to gain more profit. However, offering employees free food can be a weakness in some aspects. For example, jaguar can lose money by offering their employees free food. This is because jaguar land rover in castle Bromwich has over 2500 employees which would then result it being very expensive for them all to take advantage of this motivational method. Moreover causing Jaguar Land Rover to lose profit and therefore won t be able to afford the equipment to not only make cars but specialised ones. Another disadvantage of offering free food to Jaguar Land Rover staff is that the company may be open to health risks. This is because the chemicals and fumes, machinery and being round dust could create health hazards within the food content being served. The consequences of this are, more employees will take time off work to recover and reduce the amount of cars produced. In the ancient world, geometry was used as a practical tool to solve problems in fields such as architecture and navigation. As fragmented knowledge grew, mathematicians felt the need to approach geometry in a more systematic fashion. (Thorgeirsson 3) The key for understanding the structure of organic forms is abandoning Euclidean geometry, which does not describe the elements of the natural world. Instead it merely simplifies it using ideal forms such as line, circle, square, cubes. (Gawell 35) A dynamic development of digital tools supporting the application of non Euclidean geometry enables architects and designers to develop both visually appealing and structurally sound buildings. In the era of generative design and highly advanced software, spatial structures can be modeled in the hyperbolic, elliptic or fractal geometry. This paper focuses on non Euclidean geometry and its use in architecture. One of the non Euclidean geometries used in modern architecture is elliptic geometry. It is also known as spherical geometry, a special case of the Riemann geometry for a constant and positive curvature.
