• Show Name Here- The Girls Bathroom
Podcast
– Analysis
This podcast starts off with kind of dramatic music for 1 second before 2 males start
speaking introducing the podcast episode. They began the podcast with a sponsored advert
of winter wonderland which fits good for them because most of their target audience
would be interested in this, but before beginning the actual start of their podcast they play
their music for a little while. As the podcast goes on they include the music in the
background on a low level so you can hear what they say clearly. The podcast got edited
with an echo affect over some words to give it a fun change up so its not just their voice for
40 minutes straight. I think the production is really good, there's no noise in the background
that would distract you, you really focus on to what they are saying, it is a good volume
level and they speak really clear. This podcast is a voiceover of the two characters talking to
each other in reaction to what they have been sent in email by the audience.

Soundscape
– Analysis
This starts off with the weather and it is raining and thundering which straight away gives us
that spooky feeling. The sound affects that are being used makes us actually picture what is
happening without there being any footage. There is a diegetic sound throughout because
we are hearing what the character is hearing such as creaking of doors, birds cooing and
scraping of what sounds like an axe. There is also non diegetic sounds in this when the
music is playing and no other sounds are being made. The soundtrack of this makes the
production a lot more scary because it builds up to the sounds and if there was no music
then it would not really make you feel nervous or on edge as much, it would just be scary
noises bunched together.

• Show Name Here- Short Cuts
– Analysis
This starts off with calming music and an introduction of the episode. The music is played in
the background while we hear different voices narrate the story. All the voices used are soft
voices which aren’t shouting but just giving out calm energy. The music supports the
production because it gives you the feeling of peace whereas if it was without this music it
would just be someone talking with no meaning and you wouldn’t really get anything from
listening to this. The relaxing soundtrack also helps you focus on what the person is really
saying.

• Show Name Here- The Fellas Podcast
– Analysis
From watching this podcast for a couple seconds you can tell that it’s very professional with
the layout and the background and all the equipment used. You can listen to this without
watching it but there is also an option to see them talking. There is words spoken between
the 2 main characters and the guest that they have brought on. There are examples of
diegetic sounds during this, for example when they press a button on their set it lights up
and makes a noise related to the circus because that's what theme they went with. There
was no music to before the introduction of the podcast, the characters just gave a warm
welcome. As you listen throughout the podcast their voices differ between lower and higher
so this gives us the idea that they are moving away from the microphone when speaking. At
the end of the episode the podcast is a voiceover of all 3 characters interacting with the
audiences questions.
7. Idea Generation/Initial Reaction
Stories I could use:
• Stonegate- A teenage girl was using the changing room when she looked in the mirror and spotted a young
girl behind her. She asked her to leave but she turned and walked through the wall, staff later found out
that a doorway once existed in the wall where the girl disappeared through. For this story I could create
this story by telling the story through a documentary and adding ghostly music in the background as the
story is getting told.
• Stickman- An aged gentleman who feared he would get robbed by intruders., banged his stick against the
wall next to his bed thinking it would scare them off. After his death, the knocking was still repeatedly
heard. For this story I could create it by using a soundscape method as I could add scary sound effects of
the knocking and echoing of the knock and scary music in the background.
• Treasurer's house- in 1953, a plumber working in the house saw a band of roman soldiers, visible only
from the knees up, marching through the cellar. After he saw this, he was met by the houses creator who
said to him "You’ve seen the roman soldiers, haven't you?" I could create this story by again making a
documentary and speaking about the story with ghost effects added in as well.
The positives about this project is that you get to experiment with making loads of different sounds and create
them in a unique way. However, this might be quite difficult to do because it might take a lot of your time to
create and find the right sounds that you need.
9. Foley
• Include your work on foley and some writing about what went well, what could be
better and what you have learned.
For my foley work I think I could have
improved on getting better sounds. For
example, the footsteps was loud so I
could have been lighter footed or used
a different environment for it to sound
abit more realistic. I think the editing
part went quite well because the
sounds and the actions of the video
are timed well and aren’t too slow or
too fast against each other.
10. Recording
• Write about your experiences of recording in different places.
I think it was fun to record different sounds in different places
because you can create so many different sounds. For example, I
have learned that if you hit an object with force, it will make a
different sound if you hit it with less force.
• What effect did it have? How will this influence your project?
The effect of recording in so many different places gave me the
opportunity to make different noises. For example, recording in a
stairway will make my footage quit echoey and this will be good
for my project because most ghost stories would want the
scary/echo noises and it would sound like a real ghost story.
11. Proposal
Working Title:
Whispers Of A Ghost
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
The age group I will target for my ghost story will be 14-20 because as it includes a death of a little girl, I don’t want to scare
younger audience. The primary gender audience will be female as my main lead for this story includes females. The social status
that I aim to target is lower middle class and above as you will need a phone/ laptop or something to access the internet on and
people below this class are most likely to not own these things. The psychographic audience that will be targeted is Belonger as
these are famous stories, I feel like they would be interested because most people know and have heard about them.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the Audience Classifications
PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to content (why would your product
appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the gender? Etc.)
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept of my idea is to create a ghostly soundscape of 2 existing horror stories and combining them into one. I will be
making a mixture of noises such as light footsteps echoing away from the microphone. Another one is the sound of a coat hanger
sliding across the rail in the changing room and the voice of a teenage girl saying, “please leave”. I might include the sound of
closing doors as well and violins playing to give the effect of time going back a hundred years ago, this is where I will include the
sound of a girl falling to her death, to create this I might be able to use the smashing of a watermelon for this.
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What did you learning during research that will help you?
13. Story
• The stories I have chosen both include two little girls. I am going to be combining the
stories I researched and because of that I will also be including a little girl as well, for
example echoed laughing of the girl, her footsteps etc. One of the stories I am using is
called Stonegate and the story of this is that a teenage girl was using the changing
rooms as the building is now currently a shop called Jack Wills and she looked in the
mirror and spotted a young girl behind her when she then asked her to leave but the
little girl just turned around and disappeared into the wall.
• The second story is about a six-year-old Victorian girl who fell to her death on the
staircase and was said to be haunting the building in the twentieth century.
• I will make both these stories into one by starting it off by ghostly music and you will
hear over the top footsteps echoing as If they were walking up the stairs. It will then be
followed by a trip/slip, and you will hear a thud to where you will believe the person
walking has fallen to their death. You will then hear a violin playing to skip
forward hundreds of years to where the Stonegate story will get played out. It will start
off with background noise of people speaking in a shop. There then will be more
footsteps of the teenage girl, followed by the sound of a closing door and scraping of
coat hangers on a rack to signal that she went into the changing rooms. This is
where she will spot the little girl and ask her to leave- someone will speak this out loud
and there will be a quiet whooshing noise so that people will understand that it was a
ghost- the same girl who fell to her death earlier on in the story.
14. Script Draft
• High pitched spooky music starts, then you will hear footsteps echoing over the top walking
up the stairs.
• Person walking falls down the stairs, hear a thud where people will assume she has fallen to
her death.
• Violin music starts playing for a couple seconds.
• Music stops, background noise starts of people speaking in a shop or just the sound of
clothes/ coat hangers moving around- get the vibe that you are in a shop.
• Footsteps of the teenage girl walking to the changing rooms, followed by the sound of a door
shutting.
• Sounds of the girl hanging her clothes on the rack and scraping them along on the rack.
• First words will be said "what are you doing, please can you leave".
• Quiet whooshing noise of the little girl disappearing.
15. Script Final
• To begin the project, I will start off with some high-pitched scary music and then while the
music is being continued, you will then hear footsteps echoing so you get the impression that
it is in the olden days, and they are walking up concrete stairs.
• Then the person walking up the stairs slips and falls down the stairs, a thud noise will be made
by using a watermelon and smashing it on the ground or something.
• Violin music starts playing, hopefully this will give you the impression that it is going forward
hundreds of years, this will be played for a couple of seconds.
• Violin music stops,(high pitched scary music from before is still playing throughout),
background noise of a shop starts playing- the sound of clothes/ coat hangers moving around.
• This is where the Stonegate story gets combined, footsteps of the teenage girl walking
through the shop into the changing rooms.
• You will hear the girl put her clothes on the rack in the changing room and there will be
sounds of her scraping the coat hanger against the rack.
• This is where the first and last words are spoken by the teenage girl where she says "what are
you doing, please can you leave"- getting the impression that someone is there watching her.
• This is where a quiet whooshing noise will be heard so people will realise that nobody was
there, and it was the little girl who fell to her death haunting the place.
16. Sound Effects
Sound Effect Needed How I Will Create the Sound
Slipping down the stairs and falling to
death
Smashing a watermelon or something like
that to get the splatter effect
Echo footsteps Go to somewhere I can get the echo
effect, or I will edit the echoing in.
Coat hanger scraping against rack. Use my wardrobe or go to an actual
changing room and use the coat hangers
against it.
Quiet whooshing noise I could get curtains and make them move
like the wind is moving them and it might
sound like a ghost passed.

watermelon 80p+ Smashing to the ground to get the
effect someone has fallen.
Coat hangers Own already
but if I didn’t

cost £5
To scrape across rack for the effect
she is in a changing room.
Curtains Own-£15+ To get the whooshing effect-blown
in the wind.
20. Daily
Reflection
Day 1
• For my production I used
my phone to record the
audio footage. I think it
was really easy and quick
to record the footage
and I was able to do it all
mostly in one day. It was
quite hard to find what
music track I wanted
because there wasn’t a
lot of ones that was free
that I could download
and use but I eventually
found one that I liked
and decided to use.
21. Daily Reflection Day 2
• This picture shows a smashed watermelon on the
floor. I did this to get the effect that someone fell
to their death but it didn’t quite work out as I
wanted because the location that I filmed it in
made it so you couldn't hear the watermelon
smashing and it was really echoey so this was just
a waste of time.
22. Daily Reflection
Day 3
• This picture shows a screenshot of my final product, I used
adobe premiere pro to edit this on and I enjoyed doing this
because it is easy to use and didn’t take me too long to edit
this.
24. Research
• The strengths of my research was that I could research anything I wanted
such as podcasts I listen to, horror soundscapes which really helped me
understand how to make a good audio product. My research also helped
me because I could listen and watch to different horror things and get
loads of ideas.
• The weaknesses of my research was that I could have researched different
type of audio projects to help me understand the difference between
podcasts, soundscapes etc. If I did this it might have made it easier for me
to produce the audio product and create different sounds.
25. Planning
• The strengths of my planning was creating the script and writing the story
because with this you won't forget to include anything in or won't get any
lines wrong because they are there for you to learn.
• The weaknesses of my planning was that the music I had first chosen did
not have the effect I intended it to so therefore I had to change it to
something more fitting.
26. Time Management
• I think I managed my time good because I got everything recorded and
edited in the time I needed to. If I had additional time on my project, I
would try find a scarier soundtrack than the one, I used which did take
quite a while to find as you must find a free website that you can use to
download songs. If I had more time, I could make the story more detailed
and add in more voice actors.
27. Technical Qualities
I think my work is detailed enough as there was more than one
aspect to the story, as I included the male's narration along
with the female audio. I used music to portray a 'creepy'
atmosphere, and used other audio to further enhance the
story, such as walking up echoey steps to build up tension and
watermelon smashing to imitate the sound of a women falling
down the stairs.
28. Aural Qualities
I think my work could have sounded better if I followed a less
complicated script as my idea sounded better when I wrote it down than
it did when it was brought to life. Yes, I personally think it was a creative
idea as I went to the lengths of combining 2 similar stories and nobody
that I heard was like mine and I don’t think most people bought props
such as watermelons like I did. In the future I would have written an
easier script that would be easier to produce.
29. Audience Appeal
I spoke to people that listen to horror stories before
making it and they told me that they enjoyed the
build-up using music to create tension so I included as
that would appeal to horror listeners.
Editor's Notes
Go over as many slides as necessary. Research at least 3 products.
Discuss the use of sound effects, music and performance. How have the producers suggested a location/time period and created a tone/feel
Try to break down what you can hear. How do the different sound elements work together? How do sound effects add to the drama? What part does music play in the work?
Try to listen to a variety of different types of radio programme. If you listen to drama and documentary, you will give yourself a better understanding of what exists and what is possible. It will also help guide your project.
