Story
• The story is coming from someone who had a little brother, (who was about 3/4 years old) who is an
avid sleepwalker and also has an ‘imaginary friend’
• Recently, the boy is frequently mentioning his imaginary friend (he see’s him around the house), as
the narrator says.
• One night the boy is walking around the house, speaking to himself (you will be able o hear his
footsteps, doors opening, etc.
• Older Brother (narrator) checks on him downstairs. His brother is in the living room infront of the fire
talking to someone(you can hear the fire crackling and the ticking of the clock)
• Older brother notices that his eyes are closed and is in deep sleep, but acts as if he is awake. After his
brother makes some unnerving remarks the phone rings.
• Older brother answers it, a voice says a comment that his little brother had said while sat down.
• Older brother turns around and his little brother is staring it him. The brother screams (audio effect
makes the scream fade)

LORE- All Fall Down (episode 74)
Throughout this podcast, the narrator tells historical, factual stories about the
weather, natural disasters and what people believed was going on during these
environmental changes. The narrator tells individual stories and facts in order from
different periods in time so the listener can keep track of which story they are listening
to.
The narrator will try and include the listener in the podcast by stating plenty of facts
and using ‘you’. Therefor this use of language and way of speaking is likely to engage
the listener.
From listening to the podcast, I believe that people who are interested in myths and
legends, history and tradition are the type of people to enjoy this podcast, and the
target audience is for any ages.
Also, throughout this podcast there is peaceful music playing in the background which
helps the listener relax and engage with what the narrator is saying.

True Creepy Horror Stories
YouTube Channel-’Lets Read!’
Throughout this podcast, the narrator tells different first-hand ‘horror’ stories
that people have experienced. Each of the stories that are being told are between
10-15 minutes long so that each story doesn’t carry on for too long and get
boring to listen too. All of these stories are realistic, even relatable, which anyone
could experience, so this makes it more engaging for the listener.
Also, throughout the podcast there is a slow, haunting music that plays in the
background which adds effect to the atmosphere when listening to it. What also
adds to the creepy atmosphere is the tone of the narrators voice. The narrator
keeps a low, still tone in his voice which is quite chilling for the listener.
People who are a believer in the paranormal, or are interested in hearing about
other people’s experiences with anything creepy, are the type of people who may
be interested in listening to this podcast. People who get scared easily and feel
uncomfortable hearing people’s scary experiences are likely to not choose to
listen to this podcast.

Rain Sound and Rainforest Animals Sound-Relaxing Sleep
In this Audio, you are listening to the sound of nature. In this case, you are listening to
the sound of rain along with light thunder and wind, and forest animals (mainly birds).
There is no narrator speaking or music in playing the background, just raw audio of
what you would hear in a rainforest environment.
Listening to this audio can help people feel calm and relaxed, it could help people
forget about issues going on in their life and just let their mind ‘escape’ as if they are
in a different, more remote place where the listener may forget about worries.
People may also listen to audio’s like this before they sleep, while they are studying,
during yoga or mediation, or just in their free time as the audio is supposed to be
relaxing and not too distracting.
Some people, however, may find the audio boring, or just not something they would
listen too. For example, nature or animal sounds may not interest a person in general
so this audio wouldn’t be something they choose to listen too. People find relaxation
through different sounds so some people may just choose to listen to music or a
narrators voice instead of sounds from the environment.

‘Science Facts You Need To Know’
YouTube channel- Good Mythical Questions
In this podcast, you are listening to two people having a conversation, focusing on the
conversation of science facts. During this podcast, the two men are quizzing each
other on their knowledge of science and as they are doing this they will occasionally
make funny remarks, or add special sound effects to make it more engaging for the
listeners. Especially as in this podcast there is a quiz involved, which the audience can
join in and guess the answers as the people are reading out the questions.
People who are interested in facts surrounding science may find this podcast
interesting and enjoyable to listen to, especially as the people speaking in the podcast
are quite loud and laughable, this may be able to bring a positive mood to the people
listening.

Time length: I would
expect my audiobook
to be 2-3 minutes long
Who is this audiobook suitable for?
People who enjoy listening to
horror/paranormal experiences from
other people. Also, the audiobook
doesn’t have an age range, so there
won’t be any violent scenes or curse
words in it. Anyone can listen to it.
People can listen to this
podcast in a short car
journey, or before they
go to sleep, or anytime
when they have free
time.
What could be
included in the
storyline of the
audiobook:
Paranormal
experiences
The ending could be left on a
cliffhanger to build suspense
and leaves the listener to
imagine what they personally
think ‘happened’
Music & Sound Effects:

Sound effects, e.g. crackling of fire which is
calming but adds to the suspense

Audience:
People of any age can listen to this audio, however if someone is easily scared or distressed
when listening to creepy stories or is just genuinely not interested in horror, they may choose to
not listen to this podcast.
I would like to make my audiobook something that anyone of any age can listen too. Therefor
this means that I shouldn’t add any gory effects or curse words so it will be suitable for the
younger people who want to listen to the podcast.
This audiobook ends on a cliff-hanger (there isn’t an explanation of the experience told) so this
way the audience can come to their own conclusions and talk about what they think happened
or what caused anything in the audio.
Project Concept
For my podcast idea, I am going to create an audiobook. I chose to create an audiobook because when
recording it, the creator is free to add lots of different sound effects that may go with the storyline. Even
though this can be done with other podcast ideas, recording lots of different audiobooks is a much more
complex process when it comes to sound effects so this is one reason as to why I wanted to create an
audiobook. I wanted to make my story so that when people listen to it, they feel quite intense and will
keep wanting to know what happens next which will engage the listener.
My audiobook is based on a horror/creepy story, coming from the narrator’s experience. The story is
short and is based on an experience that happened all in one night.
When researching, I discovered a channel which creates podcasts for short horror stories which inspired
me to create my own. The stories told were narrated by the same man each time, and he talked about
the stories as if he experienced it first hand. Each story is about 5-10 minutes long which is the length I
would expect mine to be. Listening to this podcast helped me gather ideas for my story and put together
my own story.
I want to make this audiobook so that people of all ages can listen to it, so therefor the podcast will have
no curse words or disturbing experiences in it which may frighten young people. The story, in general will
just be a horror story which people who are genuinely interested in will listen too.

v = sound effect
v Creepy opening sound effect
N: I remember when it first started. The consistent stories my little brother, Tim, would mention,
and how this girl would often speak to him in the house. A girl that neither me nor my parents
had seen or heard of. Just my 4 year old brother. Frankly, I never cared. However, 5 years ago,
something happened that I will never forget.
v Opening sound effect
v Footsteps
N: I heard the footsteps. At first I thought it was the wind. Perhaps a window was left open or
something. But it got louder, until I recognized the rhythmic beating of my little brothers
footsteps outside my door, heading towards the stairs.
v Footsteps and opening doors
N: Peering outside, I saw the shadow of my little brother, Tim, heading down the stairs. He was
sleep walking again, a common occurrence. Leaving my bedroom, I crept along the hallway
making my way down the stairs where I silently followed Tim, until I made it to the living room.
Opening the door as quietly as I could, I peered inside.
v Fire crackling throughout this narrative
N: Tim was sat with his legs crossed, his pale eyes closed shut. Before him was the lit fire, its
crackling flames gently flickering on the scorched embers, a harsh glow outlining Tim’s features,
and caressing the room with a yellow hue.
Tim was whispering something, and so I stained my ears to listen. I was already disturbed and
confused. I still did not know how my 4 year old brother put the fire on.
“They will burn” he kept saying, it was almost like a mantra.
I gasped my heart racing. “They will be burned”. My heart reached my throat and my knees began
to shake violently.
v Phone rings
N: Suddenly, I ducked out of the room, grappling for the house phone. Holding it unsteadily to my
ear, I whispered a barely audible “Hello”
“They will burn! They will burn!” is what came from the phone. I glanced into the living room, the
phone sliding from my hand and crashing to the floor. I turned around and Tim was stood up
facing me. His eyes…a flickering yellow, forged with fire.
v Crashing bang sound
From then on, there was no frequent talking about this imaginary girl from Tim. I still do not
remember exactly what happened that night. Neither does my brother, who doesn’t recall
anything at all. But what I do know is that we were not alone that night.

Daily Reflection Day 1
Before starting to edit my podcast I needed to search up some music and sound
effects that I could use for my audio piece. When looking for background music, I
found a song on YouTube that’s called ‘Thickened Atmosphere-Lovecraftian Dark
Ambient’ which I wanted to use as the background music as it was slow and
mysterious, and when put with the voice recordings it was quite intense, which is
how I wanted it to be like as the podcast is horror related.
When looking for sound effects, I looked through many different sound effects until I
found one I was happy with and would fit my audio. This process didn’t take long
and it was quick to download. Adding the sound really made the audio sound a lot
better and the story clearer, in my opinion.
Daily Reflection Day 2
It was my first time using premiere audition, which is what I use to editing my audio.
This meant that before I got into exporting audio, etc, I had to experiment using
different tools and methods that were displayed on audition. It didn’t take me long
before I got the hang of the basic tools and what I had to do to edit as it was
similar to how I had edited on similar websites.
I exported my voice recordings and sound effects onto premiere audition and started
to place the recordings where I wanted them to go, including the lasting
background music. When listening to the background music and the audio, I was
pleased with how well they went together and how effective the music was.
When going through my audio I had to make sure that the sound quality was right, for
example that the narrator was louder than the background music so the voice
recording were clearer. I had to drag the bar in the middle of the sound recording,
shown on the screen, and drag the bar up or down depending if I wanted the
sound to be louder or quieter. I didn’t know this method before starting to edit,
but again, was quick to understand the different tools given.
Daily Reflection Day 3
I have realized that I have followed through most of my planning when comparing my
finished audio to what I had planned out in the beginning. For example, in my
planning I stated that I wanted my audio to be suitable for anyone to listen, and I
also stated that I wanted my audio to be fairly short (2-3 minutes long). These have
been followed through in my audio. In my audio, no curse words or gore was used
which makes the podcast suitable for anyone of any age to listen too, or someone
who feels distressed when listening to something gory.
This makes me feel happy and content with what I have produced as I have stuck to
the plan I had in the first place. However, there are some changes I have noticed
when looking at my planning and my finished project. I stated in my planning that I
wanted to create my own sounds to use as sound effects, but this didn’t happen
for most of the effects due to time management.

Evaluation
Research
The main research I looked into before starting this project, was listening and analysing
existing podcasts and audiobooks. The first podcast I found and looked into was by LORE and
called ‘All fall down’. The channel is very popular for his podcasts, with almost 900K
subscribers. The type of audio’s Lore will speak about ranges from video games, comics,
movies, mythical stories, to joining and speaking with other youtubers. The fact that Lore
talks about a range of different topics makes his channel have a wider audience. Lore’s
channel helped me think of ideas to talk about for my project as his channel has many
different topics surrounding his channel.
Another existing product I looked into was ‘Rain Sound and Rainforest Animals Sound-
Relaxing Sleep’ from the YouTube channel ‘Meditation Relax Clips’. I enjoyed listening and
writing about this podcast because it is different to other podcasts that have narrators and
story times. This audio was just letting you listen to the sound of a rainforest as if you were
there, which is supposed to relax people and let them feel like they are in a rainforest. I
found this piece of research helpful for my product because I could focus more on the sound
effects instead of the narrator speaking. The sound effects in this audio helped me think
about what effects I could add to my audio and what would go with my project.
Planning
I firstly decided that I wanted to do an audiobook that had something to do with a
paranormal experience or something ‘horror’ related.
I started to make a mind map and decide how long I would want my audio project to be, my
audience age range and who my audio should be suitable for. After I decided these, I tried
started to come up with an idea for what my audio should be about. The fact that I had little
time to decide, come up with an idea and then plan it out which made my planning not reach
the best quality. I went back to my research and started to decide what I was interested in. I
knew that from looking into my research I was more interested in the horror stories and the
suspense of it, which led me to create my own creepy story. The story that I came up with
was what I put together myself, with inspiration from other stories I had discovered.
Using from what I had planned out on my mind map I knew I wanted my audio to be suitable
for all ages to listen too, so that’s when I decided there would be no curse words or gory
audio in it.
From what I had planned out I needed a narrator to speak for the audio, which I soon found
someone who was willing to be the narrator.
I personally feel like I could have produced a more in depth story if I had more planning time,
however I am happy with how my audio came out.
Time Management
The time to plan out my project, write a script and record and edit the audio was a two
week process altogether. I managed to finish my research in two days of lesson time as I
wanted more time to plan my project itself and record.
So, once I had finished my research I started off with my planning. Coming up with an idea
for what to do with my project took longer than expected, but on day 3 I used my research
and what I was interested in and finally came up with an idea for my project.
The same day, I started my planning. For the next 3 days I was planning my project and
started and finished recording on the 5th day. I feel like I had managed to balance my time
well as I had a week to do edit my audio, etc.
I believe the time as managed well when editing the audio as it took 2 days of lesson time
to finish. The first day I was added my voice memos I had created onto the mac so I could
edit them on audition, and I also managed to download some music for the background of
my audio. So, the first day of editing was putting all this onto audition and editing them.
Day two of editing consisted of adding in small sound effects where I wanted them to go. I
had then finished on the 2nd day of editing during lesson time.
If I had more time to complete my audio, one change I could make when recording is
creating certain sounds myself and recording them instead of using a couple off the
internet. For example, the sound of a clock ticking could have been recorded myself.
Technical Qualities
I had recorded my audio on my iphone from home so this meant I had to transfer this audio to the mac. To do
this I sent my audio I had recorded to my email which I was able to recover from the mac. This process was
quite simple as I just had to download this to my drive so I could find the recording.
I also wanted to use a recording from online that I had difficulty with downloading to use on my audio.
However I had managed to overcome this as I transferred the audio onto another website where I was able to
download it into my files.
When I wanted to start editing I didn’t exactly know what the app was called which I was supposed to edit on-
which I quickly found out was premiere audition. It was my first time using premiere audition which meant I
had to get used to the different tools and effects I could use. I soon managed to get the hang of it, even though
I did face a few difficulties along the way I managed to overcome them by asking fellow classmates, etc.
After I had finished editing I had to export the audio to icloud which I had never done before. This meant I had
to create an icloud account, which didn’t take long, and then make sure my editing was how I wanted it to be
and saved in the right files where I could find it.
When I was doing my research I had looked into horror story podcasts which is where I had got the inspiration
from for my podcast. My podcast is created similarly to the existing podcasts that are made by the channel
‘LetsRead!’ as they are both to do with horror stories. Both mine and LetsRead horror stories use similar effects
in the way our stories build up suspense and the narrator speaks in first person. However in ‘LetsRead!’ audio,
their horror stories don’t have any sound effects in it, for example telephone ringing if the story has a phone
call in it or the sound of wind blowing if it is a windy day, etc, which I include in my audio as I feel it makes the
story have more suspense in it, and it gives the listener a clearer imagination of what is happening
However the existing product that I had looked into, ’Rainforest and animal sounds’ , was a lot different to my
product. Firstly, there is no narrator in this podcast, just sounds. Which, in my podcast, there is a narrator. Also
in the existing product, he aim of the audio is to relax people with the sound of nature and for it to feel
realistic. However, my audio is meant to make people feel suspense or just a bit frightened, which is technically
the opposite of the rainforest sounds.
Aural Qualities
When listening to the outcome of my work, I was fairly impressed as I did only have a
couple of weeks to plan it out form scratch and record, edit, etc.
The audio on my project is understandable and clear for people who listen to the audio
and there shouldn’t be an issue with the sound for it to be inaudible. However, the
recordings were recorded with an iphone so it is understandable that the audio won’t be
the highest of quality and the sound of the audio may vary a bit.
I believe that an audiobook is interesting for people to listen too as all audiobooks can be
expressed and created differently, especially as with mine I had inspiration a few different
stories that I put together and used this to create a story. However, I do feel that typically I
could’ve made a story that had more of a twist that the listeners could discuss.
I really like the effects I added in my audio, for example to footsteps and the sound of
doors opening as this adds suspense to the story and also a better visual effect for the
listener. I also like the background music I used because it isn’t too dramatic, it is a
constant flow that, in my opinion, makes you constantly feel like something is going to
happen.
If I could change anything about my audio, I would use a better quality device to record
the narrator, as the iphone I used for recording didn’t have the best sound quality. Using
an actual voice recorder would have possibly been a better option.
Audience Appeal
I believe I have appealed to my target audience as I haven’t used any curse words or
specific gory details in my story. This means that younger people and people who feel
uncomfortable listening or seeing gory details.
People who genuinely like listening to horror stories are likely to be interested in listening to
my piece of audio and the storyline as it’s horror related.

Audio pro forma.11

  • 2. Story • The story is coming from someone who had a little brother, (who was about 3/4 years old) who is an avid sleepwalker and also has an ‘imaginary friend’ • Recently, the boy is frequently mentioning his imaginary friend (he see’s him around the house), as the narrator says. • One night the boy is walking around the house, speaking to himself (you will be able o hear his footsteps, doors opening, etc. • Older Brother (narrator) checks on him downstairs. His brother is in the living room infront of the fire talking to someone(you can hear the fire crackling and the ticking of the clock) • Older brother notices that his eyes are closed and is in deep sleep, but acts as if he is awake. After his brother makes some unnerving remarks the phone rings. • Older brother answers it, a voice says a comment that his little brother had said while sat down. • Older brother turns around and his little brother is staring it him. The brother screams (audio effect makes the scream fade)
  • 3. Existing Products Research LORE- All Fall Down (episode 74) Throughout this podcast, the narrator tells historical, factual stories about the weather, natural disasters and what people believed was going on during these environmental changes. The narrator tells individual stories and facts in order from different periods in time so the listener can keep track of which story they are listening to. The narrator will try and include the listener in the podcast by stating plenty of facts and using ‘you’. Therefor this use of language and way of speaking is likely to engage the listener. From listening to the podcast, I believe that people who are interested in myths and legends, history and tradition are the type of people to enjoy this podcast, and the target audience is for any ages. Also, throughout this podcast there is peaceful music playing in the background which helps the listener relax and engage with what the narrator is saying.
  • 4. Existing Products Research True Creepy Horror Stories YouTube Channel-’Lets Read!’ Throughout this podcast, the narrator tells different first-hand ‘horror’ stories that people have experienced. Each of the stories that are being told are between 10-15 minutes long so that each story doesn’t carry on for too long and get boring to listen too. All of these stories are realistic, even relatable, which anyone could experience, so this makes it more engaging for the listener. Also, throughout the podcast there is a slow, haunting music that plays in the background which adds effect to the atmosphere when listening to it. What also adds to the creepy atmosphere is the tone of the narrators voice. The narrator keeps a low, still tone in his voice which is quite chilling for the listener. People who are a believer in the paranormal, or are interested in hearing about other people’s experiences with anything creepy, are the type of people who may be interested in listening to this podcast. People who get scared easily and feel uncomfortable hearing people’s scary experiences are likely to not choose to listen to this podcast.
  • 5. Existing Products Research Rain Sound and Rainforest Animals Sound-Relaxing Sleep In this Audio, you are listening to the sound of nature. In this case, you are listening to the sound of rain along with light thunder and wind, and forest animals (mainly birds). There is no narrator speaking or music in playing the background, just raw audio of what you would hear in a rainforest environment. Listening to this audio can help people feel calm and relaxed, it could help people forget about issues going on in their life and just let their mind ‘escape’ as if they are in a different, more remote place where the listener may forget about worries. People may also listen to audio’s like this before they sleep, while they are studying, during yoga or mediation, or just in their free time as the audio is supposed to be relaxing and not too distracting. Some people, however, may find the audio boring, or just not something they would listen too. For example, nature or animal sounds may not interest a person in general so this audio wouldn’t be something they choose to listen too. People find relaxation through different sounds so some people may just choose to listen to music or a narrators voice instead of sounds from the environment.
  • 6. Existing Products Research ‘Science Facts You Need To Know’ YouTube channel- Good Mythical Questions In this podcast, you are listening to two people having a conversation, focusing on the conversation of science facts. During this podcast, the two men are quizzing each other on their knowledge of science and as they are doing this they will occasionally make funny remarks, or add special sound effects to make it more engaging for the listeners. Especially as in this podcast there is a quiz involved, which the audience can join in and guess the answers as the people are reading out the questions. People who are interested in facts surrounding science may find this podcast interesting and enjoyable to listen to, especially as the people speaking in the podcast are quite loud and laughable, this may be able to bring a positive mood to the people listening.
  • 9. Idea Generation/Initial Reaction Horror/creepy audiobook idea Time length: I would expect my audiobook to be 2-3 minutes long Who is this audiobook suitable for? People who enjoy listening to horror/paranormal experiences from other people. Also, the audiobook doesn’t have an age range, so there won’t be any violent scenes or curse words in it. Anyone can listen to it. People can listen to this podcast in a short car journey, or before they go to sleep, or anytime when they have free time. What could be included in the storyline of the audiobook: Paranormal experiences The ending could be left on a cliffhanger to build suspense and leaves the listener to imagine what they personally think ‘happened’ Music & Sound Effects: Background music-will last throughout the whole audio Sound effects, e.g. crackling of fire which is calming but adds to the suspense
  • 10. Proposal Audiobook: Audience: People of any age can listen to this audio, however if someone is easily scared or distressed when listening to creepy stories or is just genuinely not interested in horror, they may choose to not listen to this podcast. I would like to make my audiobook something that anyone of any age can listen too. Therefor this means that I shouldn’t add any gory effects or curse words so it will be suitable for the younger people who want to listen to the podcast. This audiobook ends on a cliff-hanger (there isn’t an explanation of the experience told) so this way the audience can come to their own conclusions and talk about what they think happened or what caused anything in the audio.
  • 11. Project Concept For my podcast idea, I am going to create an audiobook. I chose to create an audiobook because when recording it, the creator is free to add lots of different sound effects that may go with the storyline. Even though this can be done with other podcast ideas, recording lots of different audiobooks is a much more complex process when it comes to sound effects so this is one reason as to why I wanted to create an audiobook. I wanted to make my story so that when people listen to it, they feel quite intense and will keep wanting to know what happens next which will engage the listener. My audiobook is based on a horror/creepy story, coming from the narrator’s experience. The story is short and is based on an experience that happened all in one night. When researching, I discovered a channel which creates podcasts for short horror stories which inspired me to create my own. The stories told were narrated by the same man each time, and he talked about the stories as if he experienced it first hand. Each story is about 5-10 minutes long which is the length I would expect mine to be. Listening to this podcast helped me gather ideas for my story and put together my own story. I want to make this audiobook so that people of all ages can listen to it, so therefor the podcast will have no curse words or disturbing experiences in it which may frighten young people. The story, in general will just be a horror story which people who are genuinely interested in will listen too.
  • 12. Audio Project Script for audio book v = sound effect v Creepy opening sound effect N: I remember when it first started. The consistent stories my little brother, Tim, would mention, and how this girl would often speak to him in the house. A girl that neither me nor my parents had seen or heard of. Just my 4 year old brother. Frankly, I never cared. However, 5 years ago, something happened that I will never forget. v Opening sound effect v Footsteps N: I heard the footsteps. At first I thought it was the wind. Perhaps a window was left open or something. But it got louder, until I recognized the rhythmic beating of my little brothers footsteps outside my door, heading towards the stairs. v Footsteps and opening doors N: Peering outside, I saw the shadow of my little brother, Tim, heading down the stairs. He was sleep walking again, a common occurrence. Leaving my bedroom, I crept along the hallway making my way down the stairs where I silently followed Tim, until I made it to the living room. Opening the door as quietly as I could, I peered inside. v Fire crackling throughout this narrative N: Tim was sat with his legs crossed, his pale eyes closed shut. Before him was the lit fire, its crackling flames gently flickering on the scorched embers, a harsh glow outlining Tim’s features, and caressing the room with a yellow hue. Tim was whispering something, and so I stained my ears to listen. I was already disturbed and confused. I still did not know how my 4 year old brother put the fire on. “They will burn” he kept saying, it was almost like a mantra. I gasped my heart racing. “They will be burned”. My heart reached my throat and my knees began to shake violently. v Phone rings N: Suddenly, I ducked out of the room, grappling for the house phone. Holding it unsteadily to my ear, I whispered a barely audible “Hello” “They will burn! They will burn!” is what came from the phone. I glanced into the living room, the phone sliding from my hand and crashing to the floor. I turned around and Tim was stood up facing me. His eyes…a flickering yellow, forged with fire. v Crashing bang sound From then on, there was no frequent talking about this imaginary girl from Tim. I still do not remember exactly what happened that night. Neither does my brother, who doesn’t recall anything at all. But what I do know is that we were not alone that night. v Creepy outro sound effect

  • 15. Music Band Name Track Name Link Thickened Atmosphere Lovecraftian Dark Ambient https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFvrqVSJE8E
  • 17. Daily Reflection Day 1 Before starting to edit my podcast I needed to search up some music and sound effects that I could use for my audio piece. When looking for background music, I found a song on YouTube that’s called ‘Thickened Atmosphere-Lovecraftian Dark Ambient’ which I wanted to use as the background music as it was slow and mysterious, and when put with the voice recordings it was quite intense, which is how I wanted it to be like as the podcast is horror related. When looking for sound effects, I looked through many different sound effects until I found one I was happy with and would fit my audio. This process didn’t take long and it was quick to download. Adding the sound really made the audio sound a lot better and the story clearer, in my opinion.
  • 18. Daily Reflection Day 2 It was my first time using premiere audition, which is what I use to editing my audio. This meant that before I got into exporting audio, etc, I had to experiment using different tools and methods that were displayed on audition. It didn’t take me long before I got the hang of the basic tools and what I had to do to edit as it was similar to how I had edited on similar websites. I exported my voice recordings and sound effects onto premiere audition and started to place the recordings where I wanted them to go, including the lasting background music. When listening to the background music and the audio, I was pleased with how well they went together and how effective the music was. When going through my audio I had to make sure that the sound quality was right, for example that the narrator was louder than the background music so the voice recording were clearer. I had to drag the bar in the middle of the sound recording, shown on the screen, and drag the bar up or down depending if I wanted the sound to be louder or quieter. I didn’t know this method before starting to edit, but again, was quick to understand the different tools given.
  • 19. Daily Reflection Day 3 I have realized that I have followed through most of my planning when comparing my finished audio to what I had planned out in the beginning. For example, in my planning I stated that I wanted my audio to be suitable for anyone to listen, and I also stated that I wanted my audio to be fairly short (2-3 minutes long). These have been followed through in my audio. In my audio, no curse words or gore was used which makes the podcast suitable for anyone of any age to listen too, or someone who feels distressed when listening to something gory. This makes me feel happy and content with what I have produced as I have stuck to the plan I had in the first place. However, there are some changes I have noticed when looking at my planning and my finished project. I stated in my planning that I wanted to create my own sounds to use as sound effects, but this didn’t happen for most of the effects due to time management.

  • 22. Research The main research I looked into before starting this project, was listening and analysing existing podcasts and audiobooks. The first podcast I found and looked into was by LORE and called ‘All fall down’. The channel is very popular for his podcasts, with almost 900K subscribers. The type of audio’s Lore will speak about ranges from video games, comics, movies, mythical stories, to joining and speaking with other youtubers. The fact that Lore talks about a range of different topics makes his channel have a wider audience. Lore’s channel helped me think of ideas to talk about for my project as his channel has many different topics surrounding his channel. Another existing product I looked into was ‘Rain Sound and Rainforest Animals Sound- Relaxing Sleep’ from the YouTube channel ‘Meditation Relax Clips’. I enjoyed listening and writing about this podcast because it is different to other podcasts that have narrators and story times. This audio was just letting you listen to the sound of a rainforest as if you were there, which is supposed to relax people and let them feel like they are in a rainforest. I found this piece of research helpful for my product because I could focus more on the sound effects instead of the narrator speaking. The sound effects in this audio helped me think about what effects I could add to my audio and what would go with my project.
  • 23. Planning I firstly decided that I wanted to do an audiobook that had something to do with a paranormal experience or something ‘horror’ related. I started to make a mind map and decide how long I would want my audio project to be, my audience age range and who my audio should be suitable for. After I decided these, I tried started to come up with an idea for what my audio should be about. The fact that I had little time to decide, come up with an idea and then plan it out which made my planning not reach the best quality. I went back to my research and started to decide what I was interested in. I knew that from looking into my research I was more interested in the horror stories and the suspense of it, which led me to create my own creepy story. The story that I came up with was what I put together myself, with inspiration from other stories I had discovered. Using from what I had planned out on my mind map I knew I wanted my audio to be suitable for all ages to listen too, so that’s when I decided there would be no curse words or gory audio in it. From what I had planned out I needed a narrator to speak for the audio, which I soon found someone who was willing to be the narrator. I personally feel like I could have produced a more in depth story if I had more planning time, however I am happy with how my audio came out.
  • 24. Time Management The time to plan out my project, write a script and record and edit the audio was a two week process altogether. I managed to finish my research in two days of lesson time as I wanted more time to plan my project itself and record. So, once I had finished my research I started off with my planning. Coming up with an idea for what to do with my project took longer than expected, but on day 3 I used my research and what I was interested in and finally came up with an idea for my project. The same day, I started my planning. For the next 3 days I was planning my project and started and finished recording on the 5th day. I feel like I had managed to balance my time well as I had a week to do edit my audio, etc. I believe the time as managed well when editing the audio as it took 2 days of lesson time to finish. The first day I was added my voice memos I had created onto the mac so I could edit them on audition, and I also managed to download some music for the background of my audio. So, the first day of editing was putting all this onto audition and editing them. Day two of editing consisted of adding in small sound effects where I wanted them to go. I had then finished on the 2nd day of editing during lesson time. If I had more time to complete my audio, one change I could make when recording is creating certain sounds myself and recording them instead of using a couple off the internet. For example, the sound of a clock ticking could have been recorded myself.
  • 25. Technical Qualities I had recorded my audio on my iphone from home so this meant I had to transfer this audio to the mac. To do this I sent my audio I had recorded to my email which I was able to recover from the mac. This process was quite simple as I just had to download this to my drive so I could find the recording. I also wanted to use a recording from online that I had difficulty with downloading to use on my audio. However I had managed to overcome this as I transferred the audio onto another website where I was able to download it into my files. When I wanted to start editing I didn’t exactly know what the app was called which I was supposed to edit on- which I quickly found out was premiere audition. It was my first time using premiere audition which meant I had to get used to the different tools and effects I could use. I soon managed to get the hang of it, even though I did face a few difficulties along the way I managed to overcome them by asking fellow classmates, etc. After I had finished editing I had to export the audio to icloud which I had never done before. This meant I had to create an icloud account, which didn’t take long, and then make sure my editing was how I wanted it to be and saved in the right files where I could find it. When I was doing my research I had looked into horror story podcasts which is where I had got the inspiration from for my podcast. My podcast is created similarly to the existing podcasts that are made by the channel ‘LetsRead!’ as they are both to do with horror stories. Both mine and LetsRead horror stories use similar effects in the way our stories build up suspense and the narrator speaks in first person. However in ‘LetsRead!’ audio, their horror stories don’t have any sound effects in it, for example telephone ringing if the story has a phone call in it or the sound of wind blowing if it is a windy day, etc, which I include in my audio as I feel it makes the story have more suspense in it, and it gives the listener a clearer imagination of what is happening However the existing product that I had looked into, ’Rainforest and animal sounds’ , was a lot different to my product. Firstly, there is no narrator in this podcast, just sounds. Which, in my podcast, there is a narrator. Also in the existing product, he aim of the audio is to relax people with the sound of nature and for it to feel realistic. However, my audio is meant to make people feel suspense or just a bit frightened, which is technically the opposite of the rainforest sounds.
  • 26. Aural Qualities When listening to the outcome of my work, I was fairly impressed as I did only have a couple of weeks to plan it out form scratch and record, edit, etc. The audio on my project is understandable and clear for people who listen to the audio and there shouldn’t be an issue with the sound for it to be inaudible. However, the recordings were recorded with an iphone so it is understandable that the audio won’t be the highest of quality and the sound of the audio may vary a bit. I believe that an audiobook is interesting for people to listen too as all audiobooks can be expressed and created differently, especially as with mine I had inspiration a few different stories that I put together and used this to create a story. However, I do feel that typically I could’ve made a story that had more of a twist that the listeners could discuss. I really like the effects I added in my audio, for example to footsteps and the sound of doors opening as this adds suspense to the story and also a better visual effect for the listener. I also like the background music I used because it isn’t too dramatic, it is a constant flow that, in my opinion, makes you constantly feel like something is going to happen. If I could change anything about my audio, I would use a better quality device to record the narrator, as the iphone I used for recording didn’t have the best sound quality. Using an actual voice recorder would have possibly been a better option.
  • 27. Audience Appeal I believe I have appealed to my target audience as I haven’t used any curse words or specific gory details in my story. This means that younger people and people who feel uncomfortable listening or seeing gory details. People who genuinely like listening to horror stories are likely to be interested in listening to my piece of audio and the storyline as it’s horror related. Person one: Did they enjoy listening to it? Would they listen to it again? Person three: Did they enjoy listening to it? Would they listen to it again Person two: Did they enjoy listening to it? Would they listen to it again
