• The Archers.:
– In this show, the actors use distance form the mic
to show depth within the recording, this is very
efficient as it gives the listener, the sense of being
there with the actors. Also there is a background
soundtrack that it put in when being used as a
way to move from scene to scene or to show a
passing of time. Also there is a use of foley within
the show as of glasses being moved and tea
spoons.

• The Price Of Fear:
• Voiceover Narrator- The voiceover narrator has a great and engaging way of
reading the script, it is not just reading a script, he is putting effort and emotion
into it. This makes the listening so much better and more enjoyable.
• Dialogue- The voice actors used are doing a great job in putting pure emotion into
the characters and helps makes the scenario seem more realistic. The voiceover
narrator joins into the normal dialogue which is an incredible transition.
• Diegetic Sound- There is not diegetic sound as you can not see anything as it is
only a recording.
• Non- Diegetic Sound- There is a use of background noise to show what the reader
would be hearing at the time of the story; this helps put the listener into the shoes
of the reader and help us know and feel what he is feeling.
• Soundtrack- There is some use of a quiet and calm soundtrack that is used within
the recording, it is used as a filler for switching scenes and implies a passing of
time within the story.
• Foley- There are subtle sounds of glasses and plates used in this recording, this
helps make product seem a lot better and helps with the listening experience.

• Doctor Who (Audio Drama):
– In this show, the actors have a great use of emotions
to convey what is happening, this helps the audio feel
more involved. In this show though, there is a heavy
use of voice distortion which is an interesting use of
effects within a voice recording, there seems to be no
foley used in this but in fact all the sound effects and
music edited in after the voice recordings, this would
be easier for the actors but doesn’t have the same
effect as foley so the cast can react to what is
happening with the subject at hand.

• Relatively Speaking by Alan Ayckbourn:
• In “Relatively Speaking by Alan Ayckbourn” the voice cast
use distance between them and the mic to imply
movement around the “set” which gives the effect of
movement. This works incredibly well as it shows that
instead of the listening being a 2D reading of a script, there
is still some acting within it, although the actors are not
being seen. This helps create an unnecessary but well
appreciated level of professionalism to the project which
helps make the whole thing work and flow really well.
• In the show, they use sound effects to introduce items that
can’t be seen by the listeners, they most probably use foley
for these sound effects, they also make the listen more
realistic.

9. Idea Generation/Initial Reaction
• Psychological Thriller-
• Big twist: Would be interesting to think up but would
also have to be good and in depth.
• Up to the listeners interpretation: Would be the most
interesting to hear from the listeners and see what
they thought, may be one of the easier options.
• Slow showing or mental state: Would be hard to show
what rate mental state deteriorates but would be fun
and interesting to write up.
• Show the abnormal to trick viewer: Would be
interesting to see how the audience reacts to this but
don’t know how easy/ hard it would be to portray.

• Horror-
• Serial Killer: Easiest options, don’t have to flesh out main
characters.
• House Invasion: Two different ways this could be done,
quiet or loud, would have to flesh out characters in this
one.
• Jealousy: Would all be about the characters and how they
interact with each other and others.
• Hatred: would have to think of backstory’s, look at dead
mans shoes for inspiration.
• Accident: Not too sure on this idea, don’t want to do it.
• Planned: Would have to think of motives and plan, would
be one of the most difficult ones to do.
11. Proposal
Working Title:
Memories.
Audience:
My audience are people who are 16 to 30 as this is the age when most people enjoy more
psychological and horror aspect things, which is what my audio story is going to be. Male’s or
females can watch this and it is not catered towards either gender. I am not going to aim towards
any specific social class but I think that lower social classes such as the working class will be able
to relate to this more than the middle or upper class. People who have a strong attachment type
may listen to this and get ideas which has the possibility to be bad for the project but sadly there
is nothing we can do to stop people with strong attachment types from listening to this apart
from maybe a “listener’s discretion” to be advised.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept for my project is that a man gets jealous of his previous partner, (wife?) has moved
on from their relationship. He breaks into their old house, where she still lives with her new
partner and he goes through the house explaining all the memories they had together and this is
all said from his perspective so the it confuses the audience and makes it sound like his wife has
passed but in reality that’s not happening. This ends with him killing his ex wife and her new
partner. But that will be left to the listeners interpretation.
13. Foley
• For my foley most everything went well and all
the sounds bar one came out very well and
worked well with what I was given. There is only
one sound that did not work well with the visual
and next time I will have to watch over the scene
more times to get the right sound.

14. Recording
• For this recording I had to go to different locations to
get different sound effects that worked such as walking
outside on cement rather than inside on carpet. I also
had to go to places like the canteen to get a recording
of the fridge for one part of the scene.
• This gave the effect of making the sounds fit in more
and sound more legit than if they were done on a
different platform. This will help in my project as now I
know where to go and what I need for specific sounds.
15. Garage Band
• I have learned only a little on how to fully use
garage band and will have to do a lot more
practise with it when I do my next project on the
app. The beat I made is very simple and only has
3 layers but it does work well which is good and it
is also effective with making a low atmosphere.

All dialogue whispered
“Ahh, there it is, the faint smell of lavender and frankincense perfume, after all this time. It’s almost potent enough to say she’s still her… sadly it’s no longer
like that… There used to be a picture of us here… but that’s been replaced, nothing seems to stay the same, it’s how the world works, things change, for the
better, or the worst… *exhales through nose* she used to love this mirror, laughs she used to take foooorever doing her makeup before we went out, she
didn’t need it though. Told her that everytime. And everytime, I’d get a cheeky smile back and a kiss on the cheek back. Sigh When she was around, life was
good… Walking around these halls is awful, they feel so hollow without her next to me. All there is now is a blank wall and a few nail holes from where our
pictures hung but they’re gone now… soon to be replaced with something no one wanted… Its how the world works, everything happens for a reason, for
the better, or the worst… We used to do everything together, wake up and see her, made my day perfect already, take it turns taking a shower in the
morning and racing to see who got there first laugh it was always her, I’ve never been a morning person. Used to come down to a cuppa and a gorgeous
person serving me it… She was everything to me. Come home from a long day at work, be able to sit and talk with her. Perfect. Couldn’t ask for a better life
honestly, I always wanted to spend it with her ever since I laid my eyes on her and for a while, it’s exactly what happened. I’m not sure if I’ll ever get that
feeling back, you know, always being happy, having the one true person you love there with you all the times you needed them most… It really was the
best. She’s gone now, after 7 years, she’s gone. All because of some stupid son of a… because of something stupid… I would do anything to have her back
and relive the happiest moments of my life… I really would. I’m not one of these people that sit on their backside not doing anything to better their way of
life, I’ve been out, I’ve made my adjustments and I’m close to being that happy again.
After all, forgiveness is key…
Like, how could she? No, it wasn’t her fault really, it was HIS. Coming out of nowhere, taking her from me… I’ll never forgive him for that… He doesn’t
deserve forgiveness, he is the thing that ruined my darling wife… Poisoned her… It’s not her fault, he is the devil… Coming out of the depths of hell with the
sole intention of taking her from me… So I’ve decided on my plan of action… An eye for an eye you could say…”
Charles: “Please, please, I haven’t done anything…”

“He took her from me, now I’m about to return a favour, finally, after all this time, we will finally be together again. I’ve missed her royally. I needed her

24. Daily Reflection Day 1
• In this day I did all the audio recording from
me, Josh and Jodie who are my other 2 voice
actors. I put all audio tracks into audition to
edit them and see how they all work together,
which is pretty well.
25. Daily Reflection Day 2
• For this day I have done all the audio tracks and
lined them up together so they all work together
and so it flows well. I have also made 3 beats with
BeepBox to help with the atmosphere for the
podcast and help convey different emotions for
different sections. I have also done the foley tasks
that I had for myself today and put them into
audition along with all the audio tracks, I will sort
them all out and make them flow the next day as
I will have more time to make it work well.
26. Daily Reflection Day 3
• I have added the foley tasks I did yesterday
into audition with the rest of my auido to
make my podcast sound better and more
realistic. This has gone really well and all the
foley clips work within the podcast, they all
synergise well together and work within the
work that I have already done. I was scared
that they wouldn't work as well as I thought
they would when I was doing them but gladly,
they're fine.
27. Daily Reflection Day 4
• For this day I have gone through and listened to
the whole podcast multiple times to make sure
that it all works and is good, I have also asked a
few peers to also listen to it and see what they
think and I have gotten back only good feedback.
No negative feedback has been given but after
listening to the whole podcast over and over
again, I realised there was a slight overaly of
audio which wasn't needed or wanted but after
fixing that problem, the podcast is done.
29. Research
• A strength of my research was that I found out a lot form the few shows
that I looked at. I found out different levels of foley, whether it can be
artificial sound from clips or foley used within the studio, I also learnt how
difficult it would be to do foley during a live recording.
• A weakness of my research was not looking at shows that were the same
genre as my end product. This would have helped me to develop some
techniques that I could have used within my own project.
30. Planning
• A strength of my planning was that I gave myself a lot of time to do the
project and didn't condense all the things I had to do into something like 2
weeks.
• This helped massively as I knew what I was needing to do and on what
week also, this gave me plenty of time to do what I needed to do within
that specific week.
• I don't think there were really any weaknesses to my planning as it all
went really well and I stuck to it with completing my tasks and having
much time to reflect on them and go over them.
31. Time Management
• I managed my time with this project a lot better than I did my other
projects although, I did still have times where I didn't do anything and
decided not to do work, potentially putting me behind.
• I completed all my work in time and had time to spare to look over and
check all of my work.
• If I had more time to spend on my project, I would have spent more time
editing the podcast to see if I could do some more things to help create an
atmosphere.
32. Technical Qualities
I would say my work is close towards an horror/ crime podcast but I did not research
any of these podcasts or audio recordings so I have nothing to compare my work to
within the same genre.
I would say my work is detailed, not to the standard I would like it to be but I put a
lot of work into it. It really isn't complicated at all apart from the fact I had to make
different music to create atmosphere depending on what is happening within the
script. During editing I didn't use any techniques but used some effects on some of
the audio to imply that another character is in another room giving off an
environment change. I did this by changing the echo settings within the audio clip,
this helped give the effect that the other person is in another room. I used an tascam
audio recorder to record all of my audio including the foley and voice lines. I used a
little bit of foley most prominent in the part when the main character walked into
table and hitting of a desk.
33. Aural Qualities
I would say that my work sounds good as it does what I wanted it to do by being eerie and
suspicious, which is what I was aiming for. My work, editing wise wasn't that creatvie but I
would say that the script is pretty creative by being able to fool the audience and show
that not everything is what is seems to be. I like how my audio all works together
esspecially when none of the recordings were done together but all recorded separately
but luckily it all works really well together, this is also thanks to the voice actors, Josh and
Jodie. If I could improve anything it would be to do more with the editing and see what
else I could do as I didn't experiment with audition. I would improve it by seeing what else I
could do with the audio and see if I could give off an idea more. A weakness is how little
editing has been put into it but it is also a strength showing I can write a coherent script
and showing that I don't need much in the editing department to make it good, meaning I
don't have to reply on editing.
34. Audience Appeal
I have appealed to my target audience of 16- 30 year olds by making the story
psychological and this is the age of when people seem to be most interested in
psychological things and horror aspects. I haven't done anything special to relate to any
social class but I believe that the working class will be able to relate to this more due to
the nature of the story. This does not mean that middle or upper class people can not
listen but maybe the lower class will be able to relate more to the story than other
social classes.
