The Archers (drama dialogue)
Analysis
-Podcast begins with classical music which gives of the genre of the podcast being a drama story.
- Man begins talking, you can hear him clearly, then another guy comes in but the voice sounds far away as
heā€™s trying to get the attention of the other man. You can tell that the man is far away because his voice is
less louder than the guy who started of talking and he was yelling but it started far away.
- Sound effects of a car running in a background
- After the two men have finished talking they take a pause and new characters start talking which means
thereā€™s been a scene switch.
- In the background you can hear a faint sound of birds chirping which shows theyā€™re outside.
- Every time it switches to a different pair talking it goes on to different issues and different dramas going on.
- The podcast ends with the classical music it started of with at the beginning this marks the end of the
podcast.
- In this podcast theyā€™ve used lots of different sound effects to show the listener where they are in the scene
such as they used birds tweeting to indicate theyā€™re outside.
- They also use different ways to record the sound effects such as when the person is shouting from far away
it was a good sound effect used to show the listener the person is far away.

Laughing Jack (horror story)
Analysis
-Begins with the Jack in a box tune which automatically sets the genre of the story as horror.
- Person telling the story is giving it in first person and looking back at what happened to his son.
- The guy is telling us the dialogue of what everyone said and his thoughts on what happened in the story
- Beginning of the story while heā€™s talking thereā€™s a small piano tune playing in the background.
- As the guy is describing the song playing ā€˜Pop goes the weaselā€™ The song plays in the background and then
suddenly stops.
- The guy then describes a creepy laughter he heard and as heā€™s describing it it slowly appears in the
background, so we get to know what he heard.
- As the guy telling the story begins to panic the pace of the story increases and gets very tense.
- They added a sound effect of things being thrown about suddenly after the guy took a pause, which makes
the listener jump.
- The tone of voice varies depending on whatā€™s happening in the story if something intense happens, the pace
of his storytelling increases, when heā€™s describing a disturbing thing heā€™s seen his voice gets upset and angry.
- When the story is at its climax they play the ā€˜pop goes the weasel themeā€™ but more intense.
- All throughout the story thereā€™s different creepy versions of ā€˜pop goes the weasel playingā€™
- It uses lots of different sound effects such as the laughter, and the constant play of ā€˜pop goes the weaselā€™
and theyā€™ve done different versions of the tune so itā€™s not repetitive.

Shortcuts-musicals (documentary)
Analysis
-Starts with different musicians opinions on music
- While the musician is talking about country music it starts playing country music in the background
with cows mooing over the top of it which gives you the feel of what country music is and where
about the musician lives.
- The musician talks about his life and how he was supported by his Dad about being gay.
- It takes a break from his talking and starts playing some more country music and then goes back to
his talking, they do this to give the listener a break from his talking and so the listener doesnā€™t get to
board.
- The documentary style of podcast is just like watching a documentary and the way theyā€™ve added the
music helps give a vision of what heā€™s talking about.
- After the musician has stopped talking a women's voice comes in and introduces whoā€™s speaking
next
- They then begin to talk about a song, it begins with the song playing so we know the song then it
fades and plays in the background and then they start talking about it and then it cuts of again and
continues the song and keeps doing that.
- Throughout the documentary they take pauses while the musician is talking to play music, this helps
break the talking up so it doesnā€™t get too boring for the listeners.

Go to sleep- ā€˜Jeff the killerā€™
Analysis
-Starts with the speaker reading from a newspaper then the guy is reading the story from the newspaper
which is written from a boys perspective, we then listen to it from the boys POV.
- The voice starts really calm at the start and then it tries to impersonate the killers voice.
- When they said the police came it has sound effects in the background of police sirens.
- It takes a scene skip and in between it has sounds of rain and lightning in the background.
- When he does the voices of other characters he changes his voice so you know itā€™s someone else
speaking.
- As the guy is telling the story thereā€™s background piano music that plays faintly as heā€™s talking.
- The story heā€™s telling is very descriptive and it describes what the characters look like and the
scenery so it helps you picture whatā€™s happening.
- When the gun is being fired they put shooting sound effects in the background, which makes you
jump because he was talking so calmly and then suddenly thereā€™s a loud noise.
- The podcast is more of like someoneā€™s reading a book but theyā€™ve added real sound effects to make it
more interesting to listen to.
- In this horror story they talk calmly and then they include sudden loud sounds which makes the
listener jump because theyā€™re not expecting it.

Story
- A mums daughter and son have been missing for 5 years, the police had found their bodies
but there faces have been carved out, police are trying to investigate the murder.
- Then one night the mums phone rings and she answers, thereā€™s heavy breathing on the line
and then in her daughters voice it whispers ā€œweā€™re coming for you mummyā€ the line cuts
dead.
- After about 20 minutes of the mum panicking she hears a small knock on the door, she looks
out of the window and canā€™t see anything, the knock then get louder and louder. She grabs a
kitchen knife and has her phone ready to call the police, she opens the door.
- There standing in front of her was her two kids but there was blood seeping out around there
faces and there eyes were pitch black like they had no pupils, they turned their heads to the
side at the same time and they whispered ā€œ why didnā€™t you save us?ā€ The mum screams and
shuts the door and rings the police. Then as she turns the kids are standing behind her with a
manic grin and they say ā€œ You didnā€™t save us, so why donā€™t you join usā€
- They then circle her and attack her then everything goes black the police arrive at the scene
and find the mums body, but just like her kids the face was carved out.
- A few years later there was a call at the police station claiming thereā€™s a mum and her two
kids standing outside the persons house, grinning with black eyes and no pupils then the line
went dead.
Story 2
ā€¢ A Wife is video chatting her husband as he had to move away on business, while theyā€™re
talking she reaches for her drink when she reaches for the drink she accidently drops her
phone on the floor by the side of her bed.
ā€¢ She reaches over to get her phone but then she sees her husbands face, heā€™s staring wide
eyed at her and puts his finger over his mouth telling her to be quite and slowly shakes his
head.
ā€¢ The wife is confused and slightly worried she slowly whispers ā€œ whatā€™s wrong?ā€ and he replies
ā€œ Donā€™t grab your phone, thereā€™s a man under your bedā€
ā€¢ The wife is panicked now and she thinks her husband is pulling a joke, she then doesnā€™t listen
to her husband and she slowly peers over the bed and looks under it. There was nothing.
ā€¢ Her husband is shaking his head at her telling her not do anything she then has a go at him
for scaring her. Heā€™s still adamant there was something there. She then picks up her phone
and leans back on her bed, her husband then whisper harshly ā€œ You need to get out of the
house now Iā€™m calling the police.ā€ The wife is terrified now and realizes heā€™s being serious,
then she feels shivers down her spine she slowly turn around. Nothing there. She turns to her
phone, itā€™s gone dead. Then she feels a presence she looks up there standing in front of her is
a disfigured face, it had no eyes but it had a grin that reached itā€™s ears. That was the last thing
she saw before darkness consumed her.
ā€¢ The police came into the house and found a body, the eyes were missing.
Idea Generation/Initial Reaction
ā€¢ For my first story about the kids and the mum I feel like that story is better
than my second one.
ā€¢ Iā€™m going to do it as a narrative in 3rd person and dialogue would be
included in the story along with different sound effects that I will
experiment with.
ā€¢ The good thing about this is I can tell the story like Iā€™m reading it out a
book and I can change voices when doing the kid voices and add different
sound effects as well.
ā€¢ The difficult aspect of doing this story is that I need to be descriptive when
describing whatā€™s happening or it wouldnā€™t be very scary but I also donā€™t
want to make the description long and boring so I need to find a way to do
it so it puts the listener on edge and not bores them.
Idea Generation/Initial Reaction
- For my second story about the wife and husband I was going
to do that in 3rd person perspective as well.
- It would also be a story telling podcast as a narrative, the only
problem with this story is there isnā€™t many sound effects I
could use compared to my first story.
- The good aspect about this story is that I could do it really
creepy when Iā€™m trying to do the voices and take long pauses
to create suspense
- The difficult aspect about this is that it would be mainly
talking because there wonā€™t be many sound effects happening
in the background, because its supposed to be quite to put
the listener on edge.
Proposal
Working Title: Faceless
Audience:
The audience would be targeted at ages 15 and over because the story is a bit grim and wouldn't be suitable
for anyone younger, I also think teenagers and adults would enjoy the story because itā€™s creepy and the
descriptiveness of it would hopefully creep them out. The gender range can appeal to any gender, boys
generally like horror stories like this more than girls do but some girls also enjoy as much horror and violence
as boys so it can be aimed at any gender. The social status can be anyone as long as theyā€™re 15 or older but
aiming up to around late 40s in age as I donā€™t think many senior people would appreciate the story.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
A women's children have gone missing and the police found their bodies but there faces had been carved
out, the mum buries the children and then skips to 5 years later the mum gets a phone call, she can hear
heavy breathing and then she can hear her daughters voice, sheā€™s freaked out and hangs up. She then hears
knocking on the door and she sees her children but there eyes are pitch black and thereā€™s blooding coming
out there face, she runs but the children come up behind her and carves her face out, a few years later the
police get a phone call saying there a mother and two children stood outside there house with pitch black
eyes.
I learnt how to do different story telling techniques during my research especially horror story telling, and
what different sounds I could have in the background Iā€™ve mainly researched how to do a narrative podcast
and from the horror stories Iā€™ve listened to I could include really loud noises and speak really calmly to make
the listener jump.
Experiments
Foley
ā€¢ Timing the noises so they fit in with the scene went better than I thought it would
of because with the scene when he picks up the drinks, I put it in the timeline and
it fit in time with it without me having to slow it down or speed it up. Also the
recording went well because I wrote a list of what we needed and we ticked the
list of once we completed it. When it came to putting them together I didnā€™t need
to go back out and record any more sounds because I got them all.
ā€¢ The footsteps sounds could have been better, we recorded the footsteps in 3
different places, one was outside but we couldnā€™t hear the footsteps because of
the wind so we had to find somewhere quite to do it. When I put the footsteps in
the scene it doesnā€™t really sound like walking but more stomping so I had to turn
the volume down on it and put outside noises over it so you could hear it faintly,
also on some of the sounds I recorded I kept forgetting to stop recording so some
of the run times are around 2 minutes long so next time Iā€™ll remember to stop the
recording button.
ā€¢ Iā€™ve learnt how to record noises and sounds now and how to edit the sounds on
premiere so they can fit in with the clip. Iā€™ve also learnt where is the best places to
record so you can hear the sound clearly without other noises over the top of it.

Pop! Goes the weasel
Nursery rhyme
Pop goes the weasel
Sound effects
- Popping noise when repeating ā€˜pop! Goes the weaselā€™ from water bottle
cap.
- Pop goes the weasel tune in the background
- Tone of voice- neutral throughout emphasis on the ā€˜Pā€™ in ā€˜Popā€™
- Creepy laughing sound at the end
- Kids laughing in background
- Alter voice to make it creepy
Audio pop goes the weasel
- When I was recording my voice I had to go into an empty classroom to do it so I
didnā€™t have other peoples voices or noises from outside in the record.
- After I recorded I went onto adobe audition and experimented with different
effects I could put over my voice to make it sound creepy.
- I also downloaded the pop goes the weasel tune and put it into my audio
along with some sound effects such as kids laughing and popping noises to go
over when I say ā€˜pop goes the weaselā€™
- I had to break my speaking of the rhyme up into sections because the audio
was to short so I split it and placed different sections where it matched up to
the tune. In the gaps between my audio I added in more kids laughter so
youā€™re not hearing the same tune still.
- I managed to make my audio 2 minutes long by keeping the tune going and
adding different sound effects but my voice ends at 1:30 so I had to keep it
going.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CENf7Aosl5w
Recording
- I found that recording in a quite room was much better for picking up your
voice, I tried to do it in one of the stair ways but it was way to echoic and
other places had other students there so when recording it would pick up
the other peoples voices.
- Recording outside also wouldnā€™t work because of the sound of the traffic
and the sound of the wind would interrupt the recording.
- In the end I found an empty classroom that I recorded my voice in which
only picked up my voice and no other sounds, so it was clearer to hear and
better to record than other places in college that had loud sounds in the
background and people talking.
Garage Band
- When I used garage band I first tried the different music styles, I first went
on hip hop, then electronic, and I also tried bass. After I experimented
with these I chose to stick to hip hop. This gave me options of different
tunes made by garage band and I put them in a timeline and tried to fit
different tunes together created by different instruments.
- I also had a go at trying to play my own tune with the keyboard but it
didnā€™t fit in with the tune I put together so I scrapped it in the end.
- The thing I could improve on in garage band is trying to make my own tune
but better than I originally did instead of using the already made tunes,
and I could of put a voice recording over it and played around with
different sound effects I could of added to it.

Script Final
Script
(Final)
Script final highlighted
Sound Effect Needed How I Will Create the Sound
Phone ringing I would try to use my phone as the phone ringing but
if it doesnā€™t work I would have to download it of the
internet.
Phone being cut off This would be downloaded of the internet because I
want the sound to be clear and I donā€™t know how to
create it on my own.
Thudding noise With this I would probably knock a chair on the floor
or knock something on the floor to make the thudding
noise
Faint knocking I would record myself knocking quietly on a door.
Loud knocking I would record myself knocking louder on the door
and put the recorder closer to the sound
Door creaks I would open one of the college doors and record that
because it makes a loud a creaking sound
Door slams and locks I would record myself slamming a door. I would also
try to make the sound on my own with a key and
locking the door but if it isnā€™t clear I would need to
download a sound of the internet.
Curtains drape I would fry and find a curtain I can push back,
hopefully in college. If not I would have to use the
sound the normal college blinds make when you pull
them up
Giggling kids I would also get this of the internet because I donā€™t
think recording myself giggling would work and have
the same effect as a what a kid should sound like.

Daily Reflection Day 1
ā€¢ Today I recorded me speaking my story, I had to go back and
re do some of the talking because I accidently stumbled
through some of the lines but after a few re takes I managed
to get through it.
ā€¢ I tried to do a dramatic and intense narrative voice but I donā€™t
think it really came through, and I struggled to do most of it
without laughing because I donā€™t think I sounded great. In the
end I tried to keep my tone of voice the same throughout the
recording which I think worked.
Daily Reflection Day 2
ā€¢ The day after I had finished my recording I started to edit my audio
together. First I played my recordings back and put them onto the multi
track in adobe audition in order of how I wanted my story.
ā€¢ Then I searched up some videos about how to adjust the pitch of the voice
and make it sound louder and clearer than the original recording, after I
did this I adjusted all my narrative parts in the audio so they were clearer
and louder.
ā€¢ After I did that I decided to play around with the different effects you
could do with the voices, when it came to the kids dialogue I found a way
to put a helium preset over it, this made the voice go a lot higher and
squeakier but it was too high for me so I adjusted and I made the audio
sound like a kids voice.
Daily Reflection Day 3
ā€¢ After I had added different effects to my audio and thought it worked well
with my story, I then added sound effects in, when the kids are knocking
on the door I recorded a knocking sound effect and added it into my
audio. I also added a curtains draping sound effect that I got off the
internet which turned out more effective than a recording.
ā€¢ After I placed my sound effects in so they matched with my audio I
downloaded some horror background music, I alternated between two
different tracks, at the beginning to start it off I added some piano music
with ghostly noises in the background. When it got to the less intense part
of the story I added some music box music in the background and when
the story got to the intense part I added back the piano but cut it to the
most intense part of the music so it fit in with the story. I then let that
play through to the end so it finished off my story.
Daily Reflection Day 4
ā€¢ After I had added all my sound effects, music and voice effects
on my audio I played it through to make sure it was good, I
had to change I few things such as when it comes to the kids
last line I added a deep voice effect at the end, it didnā€™t really
work that well and it turned out more funny than scary so I
changed it back to a normal kids voice.
ā€¢ After I did that I played it through once more and it sounded
better so I then exported my audio to YouTube and put it up
on blogger.
Evaluation
Research
ā€¢ Through my research it helped listening to the creepypasta horror podcasts
because that gave me an idea of how I would want to layout my audio and
how I wanted to tell my story. It also helped listening to the drama series
because this helped with my dialogue in my podcast because most of the
storytelling in the ā€˜Archersā€™ series is dialogue, it also helped me place my
sound effects in as well. Combining the creepypasta stories and the archers
stories together made me go for a 3rd person narrative of the story with
dialogue and creepypasta helped with the horror aspect of the story as well.
ā€¢ The weakness of my research was, I think I was trying too hard to go down the
creepypasta storytelling route and writing my script I took inspiration from
them and I have a feeling my podcast might be a bit too long cause itā€™s run
over to 5min and 30 seconds which some people might find a bit boring if itā€™s
on too long but I tried to make it as engaging as I could.
ā€¢ Also doing sound effects helped me with practical side of the audio, when I
was doing the nursery rhyme I knew the effects it would make if I spoke to
close to the recorder, had noise in the background etc. So this helped when it
came to recording my actual project because I knew what not to do and where
to go to record without other noises getting in the way in the background.
Planning
ā€¢ With my planning it helped having a story in mind of what I wanted to tell, and
knowing who I wanted to voice act and where I wanted to do it. Writing the script
and making up my own story also helped me tell my story, because I was the
narrator throughout the story writing the script up helped me know how I wanted
to act it and the tone of voice I wanted to speak with. It also didnā€™t take that long
to record because I knew the script and the story after re reading it so many time I
didnā€™t stumble over many words. Also after writing the script I got a visual of what
sound effects I wanted to include in it and if it didnā€™t have many sound effects I
could go back to my script and add in more if needed. I also tried to include
realistic sound effects that would be easy to or easy to find.
ā€¢ I think one of the weaknesses of my planning was the script writing because I feel
like I made it too long, and being to descriptive about what's happening that it
might get a bit boring to some listeners. I also had time to spare so I wrote another
script but after writing another I couldnā€™t decide which one I wanted to use so I
combined the two together which might of made the script even longer.
Time Management
ā€¢ I think Iā€™ve managed my time well I had left myself two weeks
to edit my audio and put it together after recording it. Plus
having 6 hours of lessons on Wednesday helps with giving me
more time to put it together. Overall I think Iā€™ve spread my
time out well leaving me with plenty of time to complete my
project. If I had maybe an extra week to finish my project I
would probably do another audio recording of my other script
and edit that together and would see which would be better.
However, I have finished my project with a few days to spare
so I think my time was managed well.
Technical Qualities- For my project when it came to editing I did an effect on the narrators speech so it
makes the voice louder and clearer, I also split the speech up so the listener isnā€™t
constantly listening to my voice so I added breaks where appropriate where the
listener is listening to the background music which also helped to create tension in my
story.
- For some of the effects I made myself such as some of the knocking and the kids voice
was just my voice but with an helium effect put over it. For recording my audio I found
a quite place on the 3rd floor where I could record without having any background
noises in it.
- I also fiddled with the volume of the different recordings so if I had a sound effect that
goes on at the same time as the narrations I would increase the volume of the sound
effect where the sound takes place then I would lower the volume when the narrator
starts talking again.
- I also have a few dialogue scenes when thereā€™s someone speaking on the phone so for
that I used the ā€˜on the phoneā€™ preset for that audio so it sounds like someoneā€™s
speaking on the phone, I also downloaded a ringing noise for when the phone rings
because I couldnā€™t make that noise with phone, it just wouldnā€™t be as effective.
I had to make my
own preset so I
could apply it to
all my narrative
audio
Aural Qualities
- I think my work sounds good, after experimenting with different effects I
think it sounds as good as it can with me speaking as the narrator. I think itā€™s
creative I tried to add as many sound effects in my audio as possible, also
writing up the story I tried to be creative about whatā€™s happening and I was
trying to think of a way to engage the listeners.
- My favorite part of my audio is the part where the kids come knocking on the
door and the music gets more intense, with the knocking I tried to make it
creepy along with the kids voices, so thatā€™s probably my favorite as itā€™s the
most intense part of my story.
- To improve my project I would probably record my narrations again because I
feel I could of do it more better so it engages the listeners more, because my
tone of voice in it is quite neutral.
- I think the strength of my project relies in the middle to the end of my story
because I think thatā€™s the most intriguing part with the kids on the phone and
the knocking, the rest of the story before that is just background on whatā€™s
going on and how the kids came to be.
- The weakness of my project is probably at the beginning of the story trying to
tell the background of the story without talking too much and making it
boring was harder than I thought, so I donā€™t believe that part is as good as the
middle/end of the story.
Audience Appeal
- To appeal to my target audience I added dialogue with a creepy kids
voice in it so it can engage the listener. Also the horror background
music I think would appeal to the target audience because itā€™s
creepy and I think it fits well with the story, I think the middle-end
part of the story would definitely appeal to my target audience
because thatā€™s when the music speeds up and there's more
dialogue and sound effects compared to at the beginning, along
with more descriptive gruesome scenes in the story which I think is
the key appeal to the target audience.
- Overall I think my story does appeal to the audience I included as
many sound effects as I could along with dialogue, I kept it
descriptive so the listeners can imagine the story in their head and I
tried to make it as creepy as possible with the music and effects I
put on the voices.

  • 2. Existing Products Research The Archers (drama dialogue) Analysis -Podcast begins with classical music which gives of the genre of the podcast being a drama story. - Man begins talking, you can hear him clearly, then another guy comes in but the voice sounds far away as heā€™s trying to get the attention of the other man. You can tell that the man is far away because his voice is less louder than the guy who started of talking and he was yelling but it started far away. - Sound effects of a car running in a background - After the two men have finished talking they take a pause and new characters start talking which means thereā€™s been a scene switch. - In the background you can hear a faint sound of birds chirping which shows theyā€™re outside. - Every time it switches to a different pair talking it goes on to different issues and different dramas going on. - The podcast ends with the classical music it started of with at the beginning this marks the end of the podcast. - In this podcast theyā€™ve used lots of different sound effects to show the listener where they are in the scene such as they used birds tweeting to indicate theyā€™re outside. - They also use different ways to record the sound effects such as when the person is shouting from far away it was a good sound effect used to show the listener the person is far away.
  • 3. Existing Products Research Laughing Jack (horror story) Analysis -Begins with the Jack in a box tune which automatically sets the genre of the story as horror. - Person telling the story is giving it in first person and looking back at what happened to his son. - The guy is telling us the dialogue of what everyone said and his thoughts on what happened in the story - Beginning of the story while heā€™s talking thereā€™s a small piano tune playing in the background. - As the guy is describing the song playing ā€˜Pop goes the weaselā€™ The song plays in the background and then suddenly stops. - The guy then describes a creepy laughter he heard and as heā€™s describing it it slowly appears in the background, so we get to know what he heard. - As the guy telling the story begins to panic the pace of the story increases and gets very tense. - They added a sound effect of things being thrown about suddenly after the guy took a pause, which makes the listener jump. - The tone of voice varies depending on whatā€™s happening in the story if something intense happens, the pace of his storytelling increases, when heā€™s describing a disturbing thing heā€™s seen his voice gets upset and angry. - When the story is at its climax they play the ā€˜pop goes the weasel themeā€™ but more intense. - All throughout the story thereā€™s different creepy versions of ā€˜pop goes the weasel playingā€™ - It uses lots of different sound effects such as the laughter, and the constant play of ā€˜pop goes the weaselā€™ and theyā€™ve done different versions of the tune so itā€™s not repetitive.
  • 4. Existing Products Research Shortcuts-musicals (documentary) Analysis -Starts with different musicians opinions on music - While the musician is talking about country music it starts playing country music in the background with cows mooing over the top of it which gives you the feel of what country music is and where about the musician lives. - The musician talks about his life and how he was supported by his Dad about being gay. - It takes a break from his talking and starts playing some more country music and then goes back to his talking, they do this to give the listener a break from his talking and so the listener doesnā€™t get to board. - The documentary style of podcast is just like watching a documentary and the way theyā€™ve added the music helps give a vision of what heā€™s talking about. - After the musician has stopped talking a women's voice comes in and introduces whoā€™s speaking next - They then begin to talk about a song, it begins with the song playing so we know the song then it fades and plays in the background and then they start talking about it and then it cuts of again and continues the song and keeps doing that. - Throughout the documentary they take pauses while the musician is talking to play music, this helps break the talking up so it doesnā€™t get too boring for the listeners.
  • 5. Existing Products Research Go to sleep- ā€˜Jeff the killerā€™ Analysis -Starts with the speaker reading from a newspaper then the guy is reading the story from the newspaper which is written from a boys perspective, we then listen to it from the boys POV. - The voice starts really calm at the start and then it tries to impersonate the killers voice. - When they said the police came it has sound effects in the background of police sirens. - It takes a scene skip and in between it has sounds of rain and lightning in the background. - When he does the voices of other characters he changes his voice so you know itā€™s someone else speaking. - As the guy is telling the story thereā€™s background piano music that plays faintly as heā€™s talking. - The story heā€™s telling is very descriptive and it describes what the characters look like and the scenery so it helps you picture whatā€™s happening. - When the gun is being fired they put shooting sound effects in the background, which makes you jump because he was talking so calmly and then suddenly thereā€™s a loud noise. - The podcast is more of like someoneā€™s reading a book but theyā€™ve added real sound effects to make it more interesting to listen to. - In this horror story they talk calmly and then they include sudden loud sounds which makes the listener jump because theyā€™re not expecting it.

  • 9. Story - A mums daughter and son have been missing for 5 years, the police had found their bodies but there faces have been carved out, police are trying to investigate the murder. - Then one night the mums phone rings and she answers, thereā€™s heavy breathing on the line and then in her daughters voice it whispers ā€œweā€™re coming for you mummyā€ the line cuts dead. - After about 20 minutes of the mum panicking she hears a small knock on the door, she looks out of the window and canā€™t see anything, the knock then get louder and louder. She grabs a kitchen knife and has her phone ready to call the police, she opens the door. - There standing in front of her was her two kids but there was blood seeping out around there faces and there eyes were pitch black like they had no pupils, they turned their heads to the side at the same time and they whispered ā€œ why didnā€™t you save us?ā€ The mum screams and shuts the door and rings the police. Then as she turns the kids are standing behind her with a manic grin and they say ā€œ You didnā€™t save us, so why donā€™t you join usā€ - They then circle her and attack her then everything goes black the police arrive at the scene and find the mums body, but just like her kids the face was carved out. - A few years later there was a call at the police station claiming thereā€™s a mum and her two kids standing outside the persons house, grinning with black eyes and no pupils then the line went dead.
  • 10. Story 2 ā€¢ A Wife is video chatting her husband as he had to move away on business, while theyā€™re talking she reaches for her drink when she reaches for the drink she accidently drops her phone on the floor by the side of her bed. ā€¢ She reaches over to get her phone but then she sees her husbands face, heā€™s staring wide eyed at her and puts his finger over his mouth telling her to be quite and slowly shakes his head. ā€¢ The wife is confused and slightly worried she slowly whispers ā€œ whatā€™s wrong?ā€ and he replies ā€œ Donā€™t grab your phone, thereā€™s a man under your bedā€ ā€¢ The wife is panicked now and she thinks her husband is pulling a joke, she then doesnā€™t listen to her husband and she slowly peers over the bed and looks under it. There was nothing. ā€¢ Her husband is shaking his head at her telling her not do anything she then has a go at him for scaring her. Heā€™s still adamant there was something there. She then picks up her phone and leans back on her bed, her husband then whisper harshly ā€œ You need to get out of the house now Iā€™m calling the police.ā€ The wife is terrified now and realizes heā€™s being serious, then she feels shivers down her spine she slowly turn around. Nothing there. She turns to her phone, itā€™s gone dead. Then she feels a presence she looks up there standing in front of her is a disfigured face, it had no eyes but it had a grin that reached itā€™s ears. That was the last thing she saw before darkness consumed her. ā€¢ The police came into the house and found a body, the eyes were missing.
  • 11. Idea Generation/Initial Reaction ā€¢ For my first story about the kids and the mum I feel like that story is better than my second one. ā€¢ Iā€™m going to do it as a narrative in 3rd person and dialogue would be included in the story along with different sound effects that I will experiment with. ā€¢ The good thing about this is I can tell the story like Iā€™m reading it out a book and I can change voices when doing the kid voices and add different sound effects as well. ā€¢ The difficult aspect of doing this story is that I need to be descriptive when describing whatā€™s happening or it wouldnā€™t be very scary but I also donā€™t want to make the description long and boring so I need to find a way to do it so it puts the listener on edge and not bores them.
  • 12. Idea Generation/Initial Reaction - For my second story about the wife and husband I was going to do that in 3rd person perspective as well. - It would also be a story telling podcast as a narrative, the only problem with this story is there isnā€™t many sound effects I could use compared to my first story. - The good aspect about this story is that I could do it really creepy when Iā€™m trying to do the voices and take long pauses to create suspense - The difficult aspect about this is that it would be mainly talking because there wonā€™t be many sound effects happening in the background, because its supposed to be quite to put the listener on edge.
  • 13. Proposal Working Title: Faceless Audience: The audience would be targeted at ages 15 and over because the story is a bit grim and wouldn't be suitable for anyone younger, I also think teenagers and adults would enjoy the story because itā€™s creepy and the descriptiveness of it would hopefully creep them out. The gender range can appeal to any gender, boys generally like horror stories like this more than girls do but some girls also enjoy as much horror and violence as boys so it can be aimed at any gender. The social status can be anyone as long as theyā€™re 15 or older but aiming up to around late 40s in age as I donā€™t think many senior people would appreciate the story. Project Concept (approx. 200 words) A women's children have gone missing and the police found their bodies but there faces had been carved out, the mum buries the children and then skips to 5 years later the mum gets a phone call, she can hear heavy breathing and then she can hear her daughters voice, sheā€™s freaked out and hangs up. She then hears knocking on the door and she sees her children but there eyes are pitch black and thereā€™s blooding coming out there face, she runs but the children come up behind her and carves her face out, a few years later the police get a phone call saying there a mother and two children stood outside there house with pitch black eyes. I learnt how to do different story telling techniques during my research especially horror story telling, and what different sounds I could have in the background Iā€™ve mainly researched how to do a narrative podcast and from the horror stories Iā€™ve listened to I could include really loud noises and speak really calmly to make the listener jump.
  • 15. Foley ā€¢ Timing the noises so they fit in with the scene went better than I thought it would of because with the scene when he picks up the drinks, I put it in the timeline and it fit in time with it without me having to slow it down or speed it up. Also the recording went well because I wrote a list of what we needed and we ticked the list of once we completed it. When it came to putting them together I didnā€™t need to go back out and record any more sounds because I got them all. ā€¢ The footsteps sounds could have been better, we recorded the footsteps in 3 different places, one was outside but we couldnā€™t hear the footsteps because of the wind so we had to find somewhere quite to do it. When I put the footsteps in the scene it doesnā€™t really sound like walking but more stomping so I had to turn the volume down on it and put outside noises over it so you could hear it faintly, also on some of the sounds I recorded I kept forgetting to stop recording so some of the run times are around 2 minutes long so next time Iā€™ll remember to stop the recording button. ā€¢ Iā€™ve learnt how to record noises and sounds now and how to edit the sounds on premiere so they can fit in with the clip. Iā€™ve also learnt where is the best places to record so you can hear the sound clearly without other noises over the top of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mZNFz2K8sg

  • 18. Audio pop goes the weasel - When I was recording my voice I had to go into an empty classroom to do it so I didnā€™t have other peoples voices or noises from outside in the record. - After I recorded I went onto adobe audition and experimented with different effects I could put over my voice to make it sound creepy. - I also downloaded the pop goes the weasel tune and put it into my audio along with some sound effects such as kids laughing and popping noises to go over when I say ā€˜pop goes the weaselā€™ - I had to break my speaking of the rhyme up into sections because the audio was to short so I split it and placed different sections where it matched up to the tune. In the gaps between my audio I added in more kids laughter so youā€™re not hearing the same tune still. - I managed to make my audio 2 minutes long by keeping the tune going and adding different sound effects but my voice ends at 1:30 so I had to keep it going. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CENf7Aosl5w
  • 19. Recording - I found that recording in a quite room was much better for picking up your voice, I tried to do it in one of the stair ways but it was way to echoic and other places had other students there so when recording it would pick up the other peoples voices. - Recording outside also wouldnā€™t work because of the sound of the traffic and the sound of the wind would interrupt the recording. - In the end I found an empty classroom that I recorded my voice in which only picked up my voice and no other sounds, so it was clearer to hear and better to record than other places in college that had loud sounds in the background and people talking.
  • 20. Garage Band - When I used garage band I first tried the different music styles, I first went on hip hop, then electronic, and I also tried bass. After I experimented with these I chose to stick to hip hop. This gave me options of different tunes made by garage band and I put them in a timeline and tried to fit different tunes together created by different instruments. - I also had a go at trying to play my own tune with the keyboard but it didnā€™t fit in with the tune I put together so I scrapped it in the end. - The thing I could improve on in garage band is trying to make my own tune but better than I originally did instead of using the already made tunes, and I could of put a voice recording over it and played around with different sound effects I could of added to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0E_MOlQp7rI&feature=youtu.be

  • 33. Sound Effect Needed How I Will Create the Sound Phone ringing I would try to use my phone as the phone ringing but if it doesnā€™t work I would have to download it of the internet. Phone being cut off This would be downloaded of the internet because I want the sound to be clear and I donā€™t know how to create it on my own. Thudding noise With this I would probably knock a chair on the floor or knock something on the floor to make the thudding noise Faint knocking I would record myself knocking quietly on a door. Loud knocking I would record myself knocking louder on the door and put the recorder closer to the sound Door creaks I would open one of the college doors and record that because it makes a loud a creaking sound Door slams and locks I would record myself slamming a door. I would also try to make the sound on my own with a key and locking the door but if it isnā€™t clear I would need to download a sound of the internet. Curtains drape I would fry and find a curtain I can push back, hopefully in college. If not I would have to use the sound the normal college blinds make when you pull them up Giggling kids I would also get this of the internet because I donā€™t think recording myself giggling would work and have the same effect as a what a kid should sound like.

  • 39. Daily Reflection Day 1 ā€¢ Today I recorded me speaking my story, I had to go back and re do some of the talking because I accidently stumbled through some of the lines but after a few re takes I managed to get through it. ā€¢ I tried to do a dramatic and intense narrative voice but I donā€™t think it really came through, and I struggled to do most of it without laughing because I donā€™t think I sounded great. In the end I tried to keep my tone of voice the same throughout the recording which I think worked.
  • 40. Daily Reflection Day 2 ā€¢ The day after I had finished my recording I started to edit my audio together. First I played my recordings back and put them onto the multi track in adobe audition in order of how I wanted my story. ā€¢ Then I searched up some videos about how to adjust the pitch of the voice and make it sound louder and clearer than the original recording, after I did this I adjusted all my narrative parts in the audio so they were clearer and louder. ā€¢ After I did that I decided to play around with the different effects you could do with the voices, when it came to the kids dialogue I found a way to put a helium preset over it, this made the voice go a lot higher and squeakier but it was too high for me so I adjusted and I made the audio sound like a kids voice.
  • 41. Daily Reflection Day 3 ā€¢ After I had added different effects to my audio and thought it worked well with my story, I then added sound effects in, when the kids are knocking on the door I recorded a knocking sound effect and added it into my audio. I also added a curtains draping sound effect that I got off the internet which turned out more effective than a recording. ā€¢ After I placed my sound effects in so they matched with my audio I downloaded some horror background music, I alternated between two different tracks, at the beginning to start it off I added some piano music with ghostly noises in the background. When it got to the less intense part of the story I added some music box music in the background and when the story got to the intense part I added back the piano but cut it to the most intense part of the music so it fit in with the story. I then let that play through to the end so it finished off my story.
  • 42. Daily Reflection Day 4 ā€¢ After I had added all my sound effects, music and voice effects on my audio I played it through to make sure it was good, I had to change I few things such as when it comes to the kids last line I added a deep voice effect at the end, it didnā€™t really work that well and it turned out more funny than scary so I changed it back to a normal kids voice. ā€¢ After I did that I played it through once more and it sounded better so I then exported my audio to YouTube and put it up on blogger.
  • 44. Research ā€¢ Through my research it helped listening to the creepypasta horror podcasts because that gave me an idea of how I would want to layout my audio and how I wanted to tell my story. It also helped listening to the drama series because this helped with my dialogue in my podcast because most of the storytelling in the ā€˜Archersā€™ series is dialogue, it also helped me place my sound effects in as well. Combining the creepypasta stories and the archers stories together made me go for a 3rd person narrative of the story with dialogue and creepypasta helped with the horror aspect of the story as well. ā€¢ The weakness of my research was, I think I was trying too hard to go down the creepypasta storytelling route and writing my script I took inspiration from them and I have a feeling my podcast might be a bit too long cause itā€™s run over to 5min and 30 seconds which some people might find a bit boring if itā€™s on too long but I tried to make it as engaging as I could. ā€¢ Also doing sound effects helped me with practical side of the audio, when I was doing the nursery rhyme I knew the effects it would make if I spoke to close to the recorder, had noise in the background etc. So this helped when it came to recording my actual project because I knew what not to do and where to go to record without other noises getting in the way in the background.
  • 45. Planning ā€¢ With my planning it helped having a story in mind of what I wanted to tell, and knowing who I wanted to voice act and where I wanted to do it. Writing the script and making up my own story also helped me tell my story, because I was the narrator throughout the story writing the script up helped me know how I wanted to act it and the tone of voice I wanted to speak with. It also didnā€™t take that long to record because I knew the script and the story after re reading it so many time I didnā€™t stumble over many words. Also after writing the script I got a visual of what sound effects I wanted to include in it and if it didnā€™t have many sound effects I could go back to my script and add in more if needed. I also tried to include realistic sound effects that would be easy to or easy to find. ā€¢ I think one of the weaknesses of my planning was the script writing because I feel like I made it too long, and being to descriptive about what's happening that it might get a bit boring to some listeners. I also had time to spare so I wrote another script but after writing another I couldnā€™t decide which one I wanted to use so I combined the two together which might of made the script even longer.
  • 46. Time Management ā€¢ I think Iā€™ve managed my time well I had left myself two weeks to edit my audio and put it together after recording it. Plus having 6 hours of lessons on Wednesday helps with giving me more time to put it together. Overall I think Iā€™ve spread my time out well leaving me with plenty of time to complete my project. If I had maybe an extra week to finish my project I would probably do another audio recording of my other script and edit that together and would see which would be better. However, I have finished my project with a few days to spare so I think my time was managed well.
  • 47. Technical Qualities- For my project when it came to editing I did an effect on the narrators speech so it makes the voice louder and clearer, I also split the speech up so the listener isnā€™t constantly listening to my voice so I added breaks where appropriate where the listener is listening to the background music which also helped to create tension in my story. - For some of the effects I made myself such as some of the knocking and the kids voice was just my voice but with an helium effect put over it. For recording my audio I found a quite place on the 3rd floor where I could record without having any background noises in it. - I also fiddled with the volume of the different recordings so if I had a sound effect that goes on at the same time as the narrations I would increase the volume of the sound effect where the sound takes place then I would lower the volume when the narrator starts talking again. - I also have a few dialogue scenes when thereā€™s someone speaking on the phone so for that I used the ā€˜on the phoneā€™ preset for that audio so it sounds like someoneā€™s speaking on the phone, I also downloaded a ringing noise for when the phone rings because I couldnā€™t make that noise with phone, it just wouldnā€™t be as effective. I had to make my own preset so I could apply it to all my narrative audio
  • 48. Aural Qualities - I think my work sounds good, after experimenting with different effects I think it sounds as good as it can with me speaking as the narrator. I think itā€™s creative I tried to add as many sound effects in my audio as possible, also writing up the story I tried to be creative about whatā€™s happening and I was trying to think of a way to engage the listeners. - My favorite part of my audio is the part where the kids come knocking on the door and the music gets more intense, with the knocking I tried to make it creepy along with the kids voices, so thatā€™s probably my favorite as itā€™s the most intense part of my story. - To improve my project I would probably record my narrations again because I feel I could of do it more better so it engages the listeners more, because my tone of voice in it is quite neutral. - I think the strength of my project relies in the middle to the end of my story because I think thatā€™s the most intriguing part with the kids on the phone and the knocking, the rest of the story before that is just background on whatā€™s going on and how the kids came to be. - The weakness of my project is probably at the beginning of the story trying to tell the background of the story without talking too much and making it boring was harder than I thought, so I donā€™t believe that part is as good as the middle/end of the story.
  • 49. Audience Appeal - To appeal to my target audience I added dialogue with a creepy kids voice in it so it can engage the listener. Also the horror background music I think would appeal to the target audience because itā€™s creepy and I think it fits well with the story, I think the middle-end part of the story would definitely appeal to my target audience because thatā€™s when the music speeds up and there's more dialogue and sound effects compared to at the beginning, along with more descriptive gruesome scenes in the story which I think is the key appeal to the target audience. - Overall I think my story does appeal to the audience I included as many sound effects as I could along with dialogue, I kept it descriptive so the listeners can imagine the story in their head and I tried to make it as creepy as possible with the music and effects I put on the voices.
