Orchestra Concert Report Sample
On December 2nd, 2017, I attended a concert performed by the Diablo Valley College
Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert, performed at the Diablo Valley College Performing Arts
Center, was called A Classical British Invasion and it featured pieces that were either written by
British people or were inspired by them. Since I have only listened to professional orchestras for
previous concertreports, I decided to attend a college orchestra, hoping to see the differences
between a professional orchestra and a more casual one. The first piece performed in this concert
was Norfolk Scenic Overture composed by Kenneth Ian Hytch. The piece started loudly and
dramatically and it ended in a similar fashion. A quick rhythm carried on throughout the piece. The
piece was mostly polyphonic, with the woodwinds, the strings, and the brasses playing different
melodies. There were a lot of things that the orchestra can improve on. First of all, the orchestra was
rushing in several places dragging in other places. Another problem was the balance between
instruments. When the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allegretto, composed by Sir Karl Jenkins. Having played this piece in my freshman year, I was
really excited to hear how the orchestra would express this piece. This piece only consists of
string instruments, and the violins played the melody while the rest of the orchestra played 8th
or 16th notes to accompany it through most of this piece. The tempo of this piece is slower than
the first one, and it has a intense and scary feel until the end, where it gets faster and louder.
There were a few noticeable problems in this piece. For example, the violins were rushing the
16th notes. The cellos had some intonation problems and so did the violins. The orchestra did not
end together, as a few people played the last note a bit too long. Nevertheless, the balance was
good and the crescendo was decent towards the end, which really brought out the intense feel of the

Analysis Of A Red Light For Scofflaws By Frank Trippett
You are a fool if you obey the rules this is a slogan that is used nowadays, saying that people will
face problem for following the rules in an overwhelmed way. Frank Trippett in his passage, A
Red Light for Scofflaws, claims that the rules can sometimes cause some problems for you. He
gives an example of tax codes and noise pollution that more and more ordinary citizens are
becoming scofflaws. The author s purpose is to warn people of breaking laws so that he can
protect the law from the violent crimes. The author s gives an authoritative tone for people who
follow the rules a lot. Following the rules won t make a fool, rules make everything looks better, if
there is no rules, crimes will rise too high. Rules just make your life go easier.

looking to expanded, Defenders Direct Inc. should consider something like debt financing. When
combining debt financing with a short term sources, the long term debt capital will be cheaper. To
increase the diversity productivity and flexibility for the company, Defenders Direct Inc. should
invest in more marginal capital expenditure projects. Debt capital is beneficial because the
providers of the debt will not try to control the affairs of the company. This will allow the company
to grow without having to worry about any interference from the capital providers. Implementation
the debt capital that Defenders Direct Inc. needs would be raised by an independent debt capital

Employee Selection
Individual Research Essay
(2) Describe the different employee selection methods and specify which work best for different
jobs.
Employees form the basis of a successful organisation and the abilities and behavior of employees
can vary the performance of an organisation significantly. Due to the fact that respective jobs
require specific sets of skills or attributes, selections are essential in ensuring that the most suitable
candidates are hired. Selection refers to the process of assessing candidates by various means and
making a choice followed by an offer of employment (Graham, 1998, p.206). It is often thought of
as an integral part of human resource management within an organization, which allows firms to
gain a competitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From an economic perspective, the subsequent costs of occupational fraud include a reduction of
stock prices and loss of employment. These economic costs are exemplified by the 5% of revenue
lost per annum from every average Canadian organisation as a result of employment fraud
(Koletar, 2003). According to Herman, a positive correlation exists between the degree to which a
candidate could be in a position to cause harm to others, colleagues, or the organisation and that of a
reference check (Herman, 1993). For example, public servants and jobs that necessitate the
handling of inordinate amounts of money would warrant a background check, as the risk of
financial losses or damage to government organization reputations are higher.
Interviews remain a widely used selection technique in contemporary industries despite the relative
unreliability of this method. Dipboye reports that approximately 70% of organizations in the United
States utilize interviews as the main selection strategy in both promotion and recruitment ( Dipboye,
1992). A selection interviewcan be broadly delineated as a dialogue initiated by one or persons to
gather information and evaluate the qualifications of an applicant for employment (Dipboye, 1992).
The exclusion of other specific qualifications such as interpersonal skills, personal motivations and
career objectives is apparent in this definition,

The Line Of Ham
The Line of Ham
10: 6 20
DIG: What was significant about the descendants of Ham in relation to the Jewish people? Who
was the key person to come through the line of Ham? Why was he so important?
REFLECT: Is there a part of your life that identifies with the line of Ham? Do you have a friend,
family member or relative that seems like he or she came from the line of Ham? What can you do?
What is beyond your control?
The descendants of Ham migrated for the most part to northeast Africa, especially Egypt, the
eastern Mediterranean region, and southern Arabia. Eventually, they formed the eastern and
southern people of Mesopotamia. The descendants of Canaan settled in the area that the LORD later
promised to give to the descendants of Shem.187
The four sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan (10:6). The sons enumerated all
became heads of clans whose land was promised to Abraham. The first son is Cush; the Cushites
settled in the land of the upper Nile south of Egypt in Nubia and Ethiopia. Therefore, Cush and
Ethiopia are interchangeable in the Bible. They intermarried with Semitic tribes living in the same
region, so there is some repetition of the names in other lines. The second son is Mizraim; this is
the well known name for Egypt. In fact, Egypt is called the land of Ham in ... Show more content on

Two of Abraham s grandchildren were named Sheba and Dedan (25:3). The first son was Sheba;
he settled in southwest Arabia and is famous as the homeland of the queen that visited Solomon
in the tenth century B. C. (First Kings 10:1 13). The second son is Dedan; he settled in the oases
of El Ela in northwestern Saudi Arabia (Isaiah 21:13; Jeremiah 25:23, 49:8; Ezekiel 25:13).
Inserted in this section of the birth of nations is the story of Nimrod. He was the rebel, the

Finding Food Stability
The increased dependence on biofuels also deter from food production, as they are produced
from crops, for example ethanol which is made from corn crop. In 2001, 7% of the US corn crop
was devoted to biofuel production and since then that number has increased to 23% (Searchinger).
Many argue then by switching to alternative energy sources such as wind, solar and hydro we can
reduce our dependence on biofuels and thus use more of our crop for foodproduction efforts. It has
also been argued that the issue with world hunger isn t insufficient production of food but in fact
insufficient distribution. Because of this many believe that reducing trade barriers between nations
will help in equally distributing food to countries that lack it.
Vegetarianism is also another alternative that many consider will help feed more mouths. Since
1980, Brazil s meat consumption has more than doubled to 197 pounds a year and China s
intake of meat has quadrupled to 109 pounds per person. It requires a lot of time and energy to
produce animals for consumption. It takes about 7 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of beef,
6.5 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of pork, and 2.6 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of
chicken. From an energy efficiency standpoint then it makes sense to phase out the middleman of
meat as it means that more calories are received per person and not lost. Moreover, animal
agriculture accounts for 50% of water use worldwide so by reducing this activity, more water can be

The Legacy Of Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 to Scots Irish colonists Andrew and Elizabeth
Hutchinson Jackson in the mountains between North and South Carolina. Jackson was born into
poverty and as a result received very little education growing up. When The British invaded the
Carolinas around 1780, Jackson s mother and two brothers were killed during the conflict and
British soldiers took the young Andrew Jacksonprisoner, leaving him with a lifelong hostility
toward Great Britain. In 1781, Jackson worked for a time in a saddle maker s shop. Later, he
taught school and studied law in Salisbury, North Carolina. In 1787, he was admitted to the bar,
and moved to Jonesborough. Jackson began working as a prosecuting attorney and later set up his
own private practice. Shortly after he met and married Rachel Robards, the daughter of a local
colonel.
Andrew Jackson quickly became a wealthy Tennessee lawyer and rising young politician. In 1796,
Jackson joined a committee tasked with drafting the new Tennessee state constitution and soon
after he became the first man from Tennessee to be elected into the U.S. House of
Representatives. Although after his term was over in March 1797 he returned home without
seeking reelection, he was almost immediately elected into the U.S. Senate. Only a year later
Jackson resigned from the senate and was elected as a judge of Tennessee s superior court. Soon
after he was chosen to head the state militia, a position he held when war broke out between

For example, I ever send a letter like this to a girl to celebrate the first month I knew her and get her
BBM Pin through Facebook. I wrote those letter like 17 year s old school boy talking...
Hey Girl,
I want to tell you a story. About a month ago, I send a message to a girl on Facebook and asking

question with question : Who is this?
It s dreadful right?
Well, she doesn t realize she just talking with the most romantic man in this country.

Modern Philosophy Of The Modern World And The External World
Lauren Estes
Modern Philosophy
Prof. Corsa As humans, I do not think we know as much as we think we know. Perhaps this is the
reason why in matters of Philosophical research some claim to have discovered the truth, while
others declare that finding it is an impossibility, and other are still seeking it (SE Handout 31). The
word truth in this quote is ambiguous. I believe that we will spend the rest of eternity seeking the
truth. The truth can mean many things to many different people. What is true for you may not be
true for me. Many of the modern philosophers dance around the question, What is real and what is
not? Although there are many arguments for and against the internal world and the external world,
I tend to lead towards the skeptics point of view. I do this on the simple notion that many of the
skeptics arguments are hard to refute. Much like Sextus Empiricus, I argue that we cannot know
anything with absolute certainty about the external world. Those who say that Sceptic deny
appearances seem to me to be ignorant of what we say (SE Handout 38). Sextus Empricus does not
deny appearances, he just is aware that we might not know for certain anything about the external
world. Sextus Empiricus infers, honey appears to use to have a sweetening quality. This much we
can concede, because it affects us with a sensation of sweetness. The question, however, is whether
it is sweet in an absolute sense (SE Handout 38). Skeptics are not crazy humans that simply

The Book Tale Of Despereaux
I chose the book Tale of Despereaux. The reason why is quite simple. I love this book and I always
have. This book, I feel like, has always understood, that is if books could understand, and I have
always had a deep connection with it and its characters. I have read this book several hundred
times and it will never ever get old to me. I could read it when I m fifty. This was my favorite book
back in the day, and now because of this assignment, I get to read it once more! I will never and
can never forget this book. Book one, Coda. This book is split up into four books, and here we
will start off with the reading of the first five chapters. Despereaux was the only surviving mouse
out of all that were born. He had great big ear for his size, and his eyes were open at birth. He got
his name Despereaux for all of the sadness and despair were they live. His parents, along with
everyone else in the mouse community did not think he would live, but he did. His brothers and
sisters picked on him quite often for his size and for all of his looks. He didn t mind, he never
even let it bother him when his mother or father called him a disappointment for his looks or his
inability or unwillingness to act like a mouse. His brother, Furlough, took him on a tour of the
castle to learn how to be a mouse, but his attempts to teach Despereaux went in one ear and out
the other. His sister even tried taking him to the library to learn how to eat paper. But when
Despereaux saw the paper he saw

The Tsunami Of The Earthquake
The Tsunami March 11, 2011 was a day that impacted many lives. Little did anyone know that
thirty seven miles off the east coast of Japan a disaster was brewing. Tension on the Circum
Pacific Belt was released. When this tension released the Pacific Plate was thrusted 5 8 meters
above its previous location(book). This thrust upward displaces water, which will cause a
tsunami. A tsunami is large ocean wave that are set in motion be a major undersea
earthquake(book). The upward movement of the Pacific tectonic was the earthquake. Japan is
located on the Circum Pacific Belt. This is the edge of the Pacific Plate that encompasses many
coastal regions, and holds many areas of a lot of tectonic plate movement(Book). The
Earthquake that caused the tsunami in Japan was a level 9 magnitude. Earthquakes of
magnitudes of 8 or great would have to be a tension snap that occurs along a segment that is
around 600 miles in length(Book). This is an extraordinary length. This is about the distance
from Dayton Ohio to New York, New York. Can you Imagine a piece of land that massive
shifting upwards as much as the Pacific Plate did? The tsunami in Japan was a wave of about 40
meters high. Since the earthquake happened 37 miles off of the coast of Japan(Book), there was
plenty of time for the wall of water to build. When the earthquake occurred there was a retreat of

Learning Outside The Classroom Rationale Report
This report will discuss the rationale for a unit of work, combining a class trip to Jodrell Bank. It
has been planned and considered for a Year 1 class, but is adaptable to suit any Key Stage 1 class.
It concentrates on the effective teaching of the foundation subjects, in particular, History and Art

The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) defines Learning Outside the Classroom ( LOTC

Whilst the benefits of LOTC are clear it is important to note that it may only be effective when
relevant to the National Curriculum and planned for in the correct context (Beames et al, 2012).
Whilst the importance and benefits of LOTC has been reported by many educational and
professional bodies in the past, it has also been noted that some schools are reluctant to plan for
LOTC due to the pressure of a packed National Curriculum and time constraints (Maynard and
Waters, 2007). However, Ofsted has addressed these concerns, along with concerns about financial
barriers and health and safety aspects, in their report dated 2008. Suggesting that, where the LOTC
activity directly related to the curriculum and specific learning outcomes, the majority of the
planning for the trip would already be complete, reducing the demand of teachers.

Family Symbolism In Literature
Symbolism Conveyed Through Works About Family In literature, authors often utilize
symbolism, using something tangible or even a person to represent an idea. Whether
interpreting a poem, short story, or novel, it is possible to identify symbolism if it exists, and
most times allows a more entertaining experience for the reader. Through the unit entitled
Family, many of the works that are studied contain literary symbols that can be interpreted.
Specifically, this essay will discuss symbols in My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, Sonny s
Blues by James Baldwin, and Daddy by Sylvia Plath. The first work studied in the family unit that
contains obvious use of symbolism is My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke. In a poem with a

Lastly, in lines fifteen and sixteen, this is the final dance of the night, as it s the child s bedtime,
but he doesn t want to let go of his father s shirt just yet. This image, father whisking the kid away
to bed, shows that, no matter how tough the waltz was, this kid still loves his papa. Behind the
joy of the dance and the father son love in this poem, there s a hint of violence. While there is no
indication of overt abuse, there are hints of violent tension throughout the poem. For example,
lines one and two clearly establish that Papa is drunk, which is a situation that can and likely
will lead to violence in any situation. This is expanded upon in line three, when the speaker has
slipped in the inevitable end to violence death. The child hung on like death. He s holding on to
his father so hard that he s as inescapable as death. In what could be a happy poem about this
father and son s relationship, we see death creep in to frighten us right from the start. In lines
nine and ten, the father holds the son s hand to lead him in the dance but, because his knuckle is
battered, this posture seems, if not violent, at least rough. Battered is an intense word to use for
a knuckle, and could imply some lurking violence. In line eleven, Papa doesn t seem like he s
being violent intentionally here, but he s accidentally hurting his child. Perhaps the child is too
scared to speak up and say ow when his ear scrapes his dad s belt buckle. The

Family Story And Origin Of A New Environment
Every family story and origin is unique to the members of the immediate group, while including
the traditions passed from generation to generation. From the scent of their house and clothes,
special holidays, vacation spots, memories, what they eat and how it is served; all of these
elements of life are distinct to a family. These elements are incorporated into what is viewed as
normal life in a way that we don t see how our lives differ from those around us, until we are faced
with a situation where things are done differently than us. Many families contain multi cultural
backgrounds, therefore providing generations with traditions that include folklore from different
origins. One of the biggest elements of culture how dishes are served and prepared. If you ever
travel, one of the biggest attractions to a new environment is the foodthat is served in that area.
Some food traditions are difficult to explain and don t make sense to outsiders, but to the family
or local group it is a sense of definition and unity through foodways. In Louisiana especially, with
Cajun culture, we see many festivals and events that are food based, and the pride in the locals
that serve it. My family, all born and raised in the South, participate in the spicy food, crawfish
boils, jambalaya sales, gumbocooking events that this culture offers. From a young age I can
remember waking up on a Saturday morning in the fall, feeling the crisp air flow through the house
as we had the windows open,

How To Join The Disability Rights Movement
Join The Disability Rights Movement Unbelievably, there are some disabled people who
actually do not have basic human rights. There is a movement out there that is attempting to
change that. That movement is the disability rights movement. The disability rights movement
hopes to acquire equal rights and equal opportunities for people not given those basic human
rights. In specific they want accessibility and safety, equal opportunity in independent living,
employment, education, housing, and freedom from neglect and abuse. Everyone should show
some more respect to disabled people by joining the disability rights movement. The disabled
people are exactly like everyone else. About 50 million people that have a disability lead their
own independent lives. They define themselves by their traits, not their disability and ever since

In Mingora, Pakistan, Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997. In her first few years of life,

Joseph Stalin And Vladimir Putin
Over the last century, Russia has been led by two of its most dominant and imperious leaders:
Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Putin. Although similar in several ways, these two leaders have many
differences as well.
Joseph Stalin was an imperious and domineering dictator of Russia from 1929 to 1953. Following
Lenin s death, Stalin moved up in the ranks in the communist party, outflanked his fellow party
men, and subsequently seized leadership of the Soviet Union. He then established a totalitarian
communist system of government and utilized terror tactics in order to ensure that his laws were
followed while his rule remained unchallenged. Stalin employed secret police to spy on citizens
and urged citizens to spy on each other. Additionally, he enforced freedomless press and speech;
violators of his laws were sent to Gulags, labor camps .
After promises to build Russia into a strong market economy and to end corruption, Vladimir
Putin was elected as president of Russia in 2000, was re elected in 2004, and was re elected once
again in 2012 . However, there is much skepticism about the legitimacy and impartiality of the 2004
and 2012 elections. Experts state that Getting the necessary fifty percent to avoid a runoff would
have been impossible without rigging the elections.
From a young age, Stalin was reared to be devout in the Greek Orthodox Church in accord with his
parents wish for him to become a priest; however, in the typical iconoclastic manner, when he ruled

The waiters in the story A Clean, Well Lighted Place say a lot about how younger and older

who shows respect towards his customers . The younger waiter believes life is valuable and his
time on earth is precious. He also believes old age is disgusting and disturbing. The younger
waiter s attitude towards the old man is cruel because he acts immature and disrespectful. For
example, the young man refuses to serve the old man another brandy because he wants to go home

How Did Claudette Colvin Affect The Civil Rights Movement

Claudette Colvin
Did you know that Rosa Parks was not the first to protest on a bus? Did you know that the Rosa
Parks protest was a setup? Claudette Colvin was a African American who protested for civil
rights. There were many other people that protested too. Claudette Colvin was the first to sit in
the front of the bus where a white person was supposed to sit. Claudette Colvin will not be

There are many reasons why Claudette Colvin has been pretty much unknown. She hardly ever
told her story when she moved to New York City. In her new community, hardly anyone was
talking about integration; instead, most people were talking about black enterprises, black power

Colvin says the NAACP and all the other black organizations felt Parks would be a good icon

The Year I Won Chess Nationals
Twenty years ago, when I first took up chess at the age of 5, I was fascinated by the ability of the
game to take a completely different direction from where it was headed with as little as one
move and the endless possibilities this could lead to. By 2005, the year I won chess nationals, I
had developed a great appreciation for all the information about various chess positions I had
absorbed through years of practice which helped me make the right moves. Years later, working at a
managementconsulting startup as a business analyst, I helped clients, ranging fledgling startups to
industry leaders, make well informed decisions by providing them with data backed business
intelligence. Today, with over three years experience in Management and IT consulting I feel
prepared to make the most out of a Master s program in business analyticsthat would help me

Fortunate to have grown up in a tech savvy home in times of tremendous technological

Insenstivity Of Humanness In The Stranger By Albert Camus
In society, behaving in a way that distances oneself from others is viewed as unacceptable: be it
mentally or physically. In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the main character, Meursault,
does just that. Throughout the novel, Meursault creates a problem for himself by emphasizing his
individual existence rather than acknowledging others. The text suggests that the solution to the
presented problem for Meursault is to recognize the subjectivity of others around him: such as his
mother and friends.
Meursault primarily shows his insensitivity toward others at his mother s funeral. At the funeral,
Meursault does not cry or show any signs of mourning the death of his mother. He is very passive,
and he even disregards the feelings of others present. The text states, The woman kept on crying. It
surprised me, because I didn t know who she was. I wished I didn t have to listen to her anymore
(10). This quote demonstrates Meursault s passivity about the feelings of others. He puts off the
feelings of the woman due to the fact that he has never seen her and he wants her to essentially shut
up. This insensitivity towards others and his own mother s death is eventually used against him
when he is being tried for murder. The fact that Meursault did not cry during the funeral and that he
admittedly smoked in front of his mother s casket while keeping vigil leads the prosecutor to
question Meursault s place in society. As Meursault sits in the courtroom, in his mindhe

This looks as follows; As you can see, the income tax function lies on top of the original budget
constraint until it reaches ВЈ7,475 of consumption. This is because there is no tax for the initial
ВЈ7,475 as it is a personal allowance. When an extra ВЈ35,000 of income is earned (a total income
of ВЈ42,475), the tax of 20% reduces the total income to ВЈ35,475 of net adjusted income. When
the income is ВЈ90,000 which is the maximum the mother can earn, the income tax reduces her
income to ВЈ63,990 because of the 40% income tax after ВЈ35,000 of income. The curve then kinks
away to the left at ВЈ7,475, until it reaches an income of ВЈ35,475. At this point the curve kinks
with a further decrease in the gradient until it crosses the y axis at ВЈ63,990. The child benefits
policy currently allocates ВЈ20.30 for the eldest child and ВЈ13.40 for any additional child. When
this is added to the consumption function which is adjusted to the current income tax system, the

Nikola Tesla The Forgotten Father Of The Modern Age
Nikola Tesla: The Forgotten Father of the Modern Age The inventors of this world are artists.
Maybe not in the traditional way of those such as Van Gogh or Beethoven, but they are masters of
creativity nonetheless. Each has had a hand in painting modern society, brushing on improvements,
recreating civilization with newer and better technology, making it more and more superior with
each passing year. One such father of society is Nikola Tesla. Throughout his lifetime, he added
many strokes to the painting of technology. Though his contributions were great, he received very
little recognition for his work, making him the greatest tragic hero of the twentieth century.
Born in 1856 Croatia, Tesla immigrated to America in 1884. Charles Bachelor, a good friend of
his, referred him to Thomas Edison for work. In his letter he said I know two great men, Edison.
One is you and the other is this young man. From then on, Tesla worked in Edison s labs,
improving designs as they were prepared for patent. One day though, there came a breaking point in
their professional relationship: Edison offered Tesla $50,000 dollars (modern equivalent of
$1,000,000) if he could make improvements to Edison s direct current patents. Within the time of a
few months, Tesla presented a new design with vast improvements. When asked for the money,
Edison is said to have replied: Tesla, you don t understand our American humor . With that, the
young inventor quit.

The Book Of Martha Analysis
The Purpose in Life
The real question is not whether life exists after death. The real question is whether you are alive
before death (Rajneesh, n.d.). This short story narrates about a woman named Martha Bes that
apparently died. The main character is debating whether or not she is alive or dead. Also she goes
about asking what God wanted her to do. The book of Martha written by Octavia Butler uses
literary elements to present the overall message what is God s purpose in life.
One such literary element used to present the story s theme is the setting. First she was sitting at
her computer, wrapping up one more day s work on her fifth novel (Octavia, 2003). Then she felt
stiff and stopped working at five in the morning. Suddenly, she asks her self where she was. and
in a surprising way she started telling herself that she could not be in heaven. Martha s descriptions
of an endless grayness creates a mood of gloominess. In addition, describing that there was nothing
there but herself and God, made the reader felt depressive. Discovering where the story took place
helps the reader understand more in depth the story.
Another literary element that presents the story s theme is the plot. According to Routledge (2013)
the Hades is an ancient Greek that means a place where the wicked dead reside and are punished.

Environmental Disparities in Health
Health disparities are the inequalities that occur in the provision of healthcare and access to
healthcare across different racial, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. Health disparities negatively
affect groups of people who have experienced greater social or economic obstacles to health. Social
structures and economic systems attributing to health disparities include the social environment,
physical environment, health services, and structural and societal factors. Environmental health

Although it is intuitive to hypothesize that disparities in health arise because of socioeconomic
differences between racial groups, studies often find that racial disparities persist even after
accounting socioeconomic factors. Ethnicity is highly correlated with residential location, with

comes with differential exposure to health risks.
. In a 1995 article pertaining to socioeconomic and racial differences in health Dr. Collin Williams
explains how he believes that socioeconomic differences do not completely explain racial
disparities, rather it argues that social class is merely an important mediator. Therefore, it is
hypothesized that race determines one s economic resources, which in turn determine health. Thus,
although socioeconomic conditions do not fully account for health disparities, they are a necessary

The Use Of Computers And Technology For Criminal...
Cybercrime is the use of computers and technology for criminal activities. Crimes that are
committed in the virtual realm encompass a wide category. Thanks to the easy availability and
increasing dependence on technology, cybercrimes are a fast growing criminal undertaking that is
limitless in its potential. With the fast pace advancements in technology, cybercriminals are
evolving their methods faster than law enforcement can advance theirs making it difficult to
incriminate them. In addition, the lack of a physical barrier, as well as the lack of an individual or
corporation knowing they are victims, makes it difficult to trace the criminals because no barrier is
preventing attacks from occurring, or isolating it to a local area, and because attacks do not cause
physical or mental harm. However, with research and resources, law enforcement has identified a
common medium a cybercriminal uses to commit crimes: crimeware, commonly known as
computer viruses. When discussing cybercrime, common terms that come to mind are viruses,
hacking and online identity theft. All these three terms share a common characteristic: they all
require software. Hackers use software to plant viruses to steal information. Crimeware is a
subclass of [malware] (Emigh, 2006, p. 246) and is defined as a software running without the

will be to use cocaine or heroin as an adult. However, proponents highlight that in 2006, eight out

How Is Paradiso Created By Dantes Inferno
Why do most readers tend to read only Inferno? In the 1300s, Dante Alighieri wrote three parts to
the epic poem, The Divine Comedy, an imaginary story about himself. Dante is given a tour of the
three different sections of Heaven: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. Alighieri puts Dante through
innumerable experiences that change him as The Divine Comedyprogresses. Before Dante s journey
through Inferno, he realizes his current way of life is not on the true path . In other words, Dante
is not living life the way he should purely and without sinning. Alighieri compares this feeling to
being alone in a dark wood; as he says in line three of Canto I. When Virgilcalls to Charon to take
them to the circles of hell, Dante passes out because he is overwhelmed and frightened. This event
shows that he is shocked and not prepared for the things he is about to go through. The second
circle is filled with the lustful souls. These souls are punished by being constantly blown by wind,
preventing them from finding tranquility. Expectantly, Dante feels sympathy towards these souls,
because they are damned because of their love. In the fifth circle, Dante recognizes someone from
his life whom he despises, and is glad... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

/ for, losing me, all may perhaps be lost. In these lines, he is warning the reader to stop reading,
because human reasoning cannot understand the concepts and ideas expressed in Paradiso. This
statement expresses the fact that Dante has already gone through several changes that have helped
him become closer to God. Dante is finally one with God in this section of the story. All the change
he has gone through has lead up to this moment. Meeting God has brought Dante completely back

Feldman Attachments
In his book Development Across the Life Span Robert Feldman gives the following definition for
attachment, Attachment is the positive emotional bond that develops between a child and a
particular, special individual. (pg.186) Attachments between parents and children are very
important. They make the child to feel secure, loved, and help to ensure that the child s basic needs
are met. In an ideal world all parents and children would develop secure, healthy attachments,
unfortunately, this is not always the case. A theorist named Mary Ainsworth did extensive studies
into the different types of attachments that parents and children form. Through her research, she
came up with three different types of attachment that form between children and parents particularly
mothers. This first type is called the Secure Attachment Pattern. These babies have a healthy
attachment to their mothers.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Babies in this category want to be near their mothers and show distress when she leaves but are
comforted when she returns. ( Feldman pg. 187) The second type of attachment is the Avoidant
Attachment Pattern. These babies do not have a secure attachment to their mothers. They do not
seek contact with their mother and are indifferent to her comings and goings.(Feldman pg.187) The
last type of attachment is the Ambivalent Attachment Pattern. These babies also do not have a
secure attachment to their mothers but they exhibit it in a different way. These babies want to be
near there mother constantly and rarely explore their environment. When the mother leaves they
show great distress and upon her return, they initially hurry to her but then show angry behavior by
hitting or kicking the mother. (Feldman pg.

Eye Motif in Night by Elie Wiesel
The Soul s Mirror Eyes have guided mankind throughout all history, whether they allowed us to
foresee danger or helped us find our loved ones. They have granted us sight over what would
otherwise be invisible to us. When looking at someone, one can tell how they are feeling by
staring into his or her eyes. Our eyes never lie. Our eyes will often mirror our souls and display
our true inner emotions. In Elie Wiesels autobiographical narrative, Night, he uses the eye motif to
portray characters true souls. In some parts of the narrative, Night, Wiesel used eyes to display the
hope and positive emotionin characters. In the beginning of the story, eyes were used as an
indication of Moche the Beadle s calmness in the following quote. I... Show more content on

His eyes show he is still alive, but his soul s essence is dimmed and now weak; he is near death.
The following event happens before a selection and Akiba Drumer instantly gives up hope.
Suddenly his eyes would become blank, nothing but two open wounds, two pits of terror
(Wiesel 82). While Akiba may still be physically alive, his eyes show how his soul is now dead
and overwhelmed by terror; he is now a mere walking corpse. Elie and his father are seeking
shelter from the frozen temperature in the brick factory in the next scene. His eyes were
petrified, his lips withered, decayed (Wiesel 94). Elie s father s eyes show how he has been
reduced to a brittle stone that is about to crack. Elie Wiesel used eyes as a motif in his narrative,
Night, as windows to characters inner souls. He used eyes to assist the theme of surviving at all
costs throughout the story by giving the audience an insight of people s true emotions and status.
Without eyes, we would have been blind to see past characters outer layers of fake emotion. There
is more than the eye can see. One has to look deep into another s eyes to see the true light or
darkness within them.

The Importance Of Donald Trump s Migration To Canada
Following Donald Trump s success on Super Tuesday, searches for how can I move to Canada
jumped drastically on Google. Immigration lawyers have also dealt with increasing queries about a
move towards Canada. Since Super Tuesday, the continued success of Donald in the polls has only
increased the number of Americans looking to leave the country. Canadian immigrationlawyers are
overwhelmed with a continued stream of phone calls about leaving the county.
Leaving the County
One immigration lawyer fielded 70 to 80 calls about a move to Canada from the beginning of the
Republican primaries to just after Super Tuesday. In the days immediately following Super
Tuesday, he received 20 calls about immigration. People across the United States are asking about
immigration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some individuals feel that a Trump presidency would be a bleak, uncertain prospect that they do
not want to remain around for. Democrats especially may relate to Canadian prime minister, Justine
Trudeau s, policies. While these individuals may have previously felt accepted in the United States,
they no longer feel that connection. Instead, they see Canada as the closest place that is in line with
their political and moral beliefs.
Will They Follow Through?
Currently, the question is not if people want to leave the country. Rather, the main question is if
they are going to follow through. There has been a rise in Google searches for Canadian
immigration and calls about immigrating, but that does not necessarily mean that people will
actually leave the country. The political left feels like the United States no longer resembles the
home and political environment that they are used to. Canadian immigration may feel like the best
option, but the numerous documents, requirements and paperwork involved may be daunting for
new immigrants.

The Correlation Between Current Brazilian Beauty Standards...
Before understanding the correlation between current Brazilian beauty standards and racial
whitening, I need to establish modern day beauty norms and epitomes in Brazil. The first, most
obvious, westernized beauty norm in Brazil is hair. The majority of Brazilians have dark, curly
hair; However, it is deemed more beautiful to have straight, lighter hair. Edmonds cites in his
ethnography, ...the cultural rule seems to be the straighter (and often blonder) the better...
(Edmonds, 143) when referring to beauty ideals. Although, most women in Brazil have curly hair,
it is considered a rarity for women to be seen with curls because curls are known to Brazilians as a
black hairstyle ( Edmonds 150 151). Additionally, there is a common saying in... Show more content

This perpetuates the stereotype that African features are less appealing. The goal of many Brazilian
women is to have lighter skin. This interest has sparked a rise in the use of skin lightening creams
in Brazil. Skin whitening products are estimated at a three billion dollar industry worldwide
(Charleston, 2016). Despite the dangers from the chemicals in such products, Brazilians continue to
use them in order to achieve the societal construction of beauty. White and colored people continue
to maintain the principle that lighter skin is more beautiful. A modern example of this unjust
practice is Emma Watson s modeling for a LancГґme product. Watson was the face of a skin
lightning product which promised pearl perfect whiteness (Charleston, 2016). Not only is the
concept of changing skin colors to adapt to beauty standards unfair, the model they chose was
naturally born very pale; So, it is a completely unattainable and unrealistic goal to have skin like
her if the consumer is someone with a darker complexion. Many Brazilian celebrities have been
criticized for having appeared to have lightened or altered their skin. For example, famous soccer
star, Neymar da Silva Santos JГєnior, was criticized after pictures surfaced from when he was
young up until about two years ago; In those photos, he looked Black. Once he started to become
famous, he showed more and more common white characteristics, especially in his complexion
(Parbhala, 2014). Neymar was once asked if he

Benefits And Benefits Of Writing
Writing and its Benefits
The first phase in writing; invented spelling, is illustrated by Kelli, a first grader. Young children
use invented spelling as a vehicle to express their thoughts. When exposed to various types of
print, or writing; cereal boxes, signs, television, billboards, and any books that are read to them, the
child will mimic the sounds they hear of the words they wish to write. The writings may appear as
scribbles or unconventional writing to the viewer, but to the child it is meaningful, logical writing.
The concern for the parent and their child s invented style of spelling is that the child will later have
difficulty transitioning to a more standard, conventional style of spelling. The opposite is true,

As time passed, she progressed at reading and acknowledged ways of standard spellings. With
teacher encouragement, Kelli worked with her skill of invented spelling that lead her to
spelling more words correctly. Beth, a good speller who used invented spelling in the beginning
of the school year, and at the end of the school year progress had been seen in her standard
writing skills; the g was used instead of a j in gently and a y was used instead of an e in merrily .
To help gauge this, teachers may implement meaningful activities such as: songs or nursery
rhymes. Less and less (as a child is encouraged and given the freedom to use invented spelling, as
they learn to pick up the sounds heard in the words), they will seek help spelling words from the
teacher, increasing their confidence level. At some point the teacher may have the child share their
writings with them or to another child, but never putting any correction marks on their paper;
instead the teacher will have the child say the word or words in question and instruct the rest of the
class to listen to a particular point (beginning, middle, or end).
From Invented Spelling to Standard Spelling
To also guide the child from invented spelling to standard spelling, the teacher will look at

Identification of Strategy for Adidas
Through Adidas mission statement which dictates the direction for the Adidas s strategy; Adidas s
missions statement sets the trajectory for Adidas to compete towards becoming the leading sports
brand in the world. Based on data to be included herein, Adidas clearly has enacted this strategy in
its North American market. With this being determined, Adidas is clearly defined as an
organization that incorporates a broad differentiation strategic plan. However, by the very nature of
this sports company conducting business as a diversified multinational organization, Adidas also
implements a segmented strategy plan depending on the various markets. What is broad about the
Adidas strategy is the company s intent to differentiate it products worldwide with premium

What is more, teen couples bite each other regularly to show affection, sometimes so hard they
draw blood and what is even more bizarre: some of them cut their skin so they can taste one
another s blood. According to doctors biting can lead to diseases. Fifteen percent of bites from
humans can become infected; moreover, biting can spread sometimes blood borne diseases like
HIV, hepatitis or syphilis. Let s see an example from the first part of Twilight Saga, because it
has been already mentioned. In the first part of the series, Bella says, About three things I was
absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him and I didn t
know how potent that part might be that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally
and irrevocably in love with him. (Meyer,195) It sounds as if teenagers are influenced to fall in
love with something like Satan. So it is enough if the man is handsome, it doesn t matter if he is
life threatening. In the end, just like in fairy tales, everything is going to be alright and they will
live happily ever after. The only problem is that in real life it doesn t work. Moreover, one of the
most famous quotes from New Moon, the film interpretation of the second part is Death is
peaceful....easy....life is harder... . An impressionable young mind may easily define this that it s
easier to commit suicide than to manage with the troubles. On the

  • 2. Orchestra Concert Report Sample On December 2nd, 2017, I attended a concert performed by the Diablo Valley College Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert, performed at the Diablo Valley College Performing Arts Center, was called A Classical British Invasion and it featured pieces that were either written by British people or were inspired by them. Since I have only listened to professional orchestras for previous concertreports, I decided to attend a college orchestra, hoping to see the differences between a professional orchestra and a more casual one. The first piece performed in this concert was Norfolk Scenic Overture composed by Kenneth Ian Hytch. The piece started loudly and dramatically and it ended in a similar fashion. A quick rhythm carried on throughout the piece. The piece was mostly polyphonic, with the woodwinds, the strings, and the brasses playing different melodies. There were a lot of things that the orchestra can improve on. First of all, the orchestra was rushing in several places dragging in other places. Another problem was the balance between instruments. When the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allegretto, composed by Sir Karl Jenkins. Having played this piece in my freshman year, I was really excited to hear how the orchestra would express this piece. This piece only consists of string instruments, and the violins played the melody while the rest of the orchestra played 8th or 16th notes to accompany it through most of this piece. The tempo of this piece is slower than the first one, and it has a intense and scary feel until the end, where it gets faster and louder. There were a few noticeable problems in this piece. For example, the violins were rushing the 16th notes. The cellos had some intonation problems and so did the violins. The orchestra did not end together, as a few people played the last note a bit too long. Nevertheless, the balance was good and the crescendo was decent towards the end, which really brought out the intense feel of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Employee Selection Individual Research Essay (2) Describe the different employee selection methods and specify which work best for different jobs. Employees form the basis of a successful organisation and the abilities and behavior of employees can vary the performance of an organisation significantly. Due to the fact that respective jobs require specific sets of skills or attributes, selections are essential in ensuring that the most suitable candidates are hired. Selection refers to the process of assessing candidates by various means and making a choice followed by an offer of employment (Graham, 1998, p.206). It is often thought of as an integral part of human resource management within an organization, which allows firms to gain a competitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From an economic perspective, the subsequent costs of occupational fraud include a reduction of stock prices and loss of employment. These economic costs are exemplified by the 5% of revenue lost per annum from every average Canadian organisation as a result of employment fraud (Koletar, 2003). According to Herman, a positive correlation exists between the degree to which a candidate could be in a position to cause harm to others, colleagues, or the organisation and that of a reference check (Herman, 1993). For example, public servants and jobs that necessitate the handling of inordinate amounts of money would warrant a background check, as the risk of financial losses or damage to government organization reputations are higher. Interviews remain a widely used selection technique in contemporary industries despite the relative unreliability of this method. Dipboye reports that approximately 70% of organizations in the United States utilize interviews as the main selection strategy in both promotion and recruitment ( Dipboye, 1992). A selection interviewcan be broadly delineated as a dialogue initiated by one or persons to gather information and evaluate the qualifications of an applicant for employment (Dipboye, 1992). The exclusion of other specific qualifications such as interpersonal skills, personal motivations and career objectives is apparent in this definition, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Line Of Ham The Line of Ham 10: 6 20 DIG: What was significant about the descendants of Ham in relation to the Jewish people? Who was the key person to come through the line of Ham? Why was he so important? REFLECT: Is there a part of your life that identifies with the line of Ham? Do you have a friend, family member or relative that seems like he or she came from the line of Ham? What can you do? What is beyond your control? The descendants of Ham migrated for the most part to northeast Africa, especially Egypt, the eastern Mediterranean region, and southern Arabia. Eventually, they formed the eastern and southern people of Mesopotamia. The descendants of Canaan settled in the area that the LORD later promised to give to the descendants of Shem.187 The four sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan (10:6). The sons enumerated all became heads of clans whose land was promised to Abraham. The first son is Cush; the Cushites settled in the land of the upper Nile south of Egypt in Nubia and Ethiopia. Therefore, Cush and Ethiopia are interchangeable in the Bible. They intermarried with Semitic tribes living in the same region, so there is some repetition of the names in other lines. The second son is Mizraim; this is the well known name for Egypt. In fact, Egypt is called the land of Ham in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second son is Dedan; he settled in the oases of El Ela in northwestern Saudi Arabia (Isaiah 21:13; Jeremiah 25:23, 49:8; Ezekiel 25:13). • 7. Finding Food Stability The increased dependence on biofuels also deter from food production, as they are produced from crops, for example ethanol which is made from corn crop. In 2001, 7% of the US corn crop was devoted to biofuel production and since then that number has increased to 23% (Searchinger). Many argue then by switching to alternative energy sources such as wind, solar and hydro we can reduce our dependence on biofuels and thus use more of our crop for foodproduction efforts. It has also been argued that the issue with world hunger isn t insufficient production of food but in fact insufficient distribution. Because of this many believe that reducing trade barriers between nations will help in equally distributing food to countries that lack it. Vegetarianism is also another alternative that many consider will help feed more mouths. Since 1980, Brazil s meat consumption has more than doubled to 197 pounds a year and China s intake of meat has quadrupled to 109 pounds per person. It requires a lot of time and energy to produce animals for consumption. It takes about 7 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of beef, 6.5 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of pork, and 2.6 pounds of corn to produce 1 pound of chicken. From an energy efficiency standpoint then it makes sense to phase out the middleman of meat as it means that more calories are received per person and not lost. Moreover, animal agriculture accounts for 50% of water use worldwide so by reducing this activity, more water can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Legacy Of Andrew Jackson Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 to Scots Irish colonists Andrew and Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson in the mountains between North and South Carolina. Jackson was born into poverty and as a result received very little education growing up. When The British invaded the Carolinas around 1780, Jackson s mother and two brothers were killed during the conflict and British soldiers took the young Andrew Jacksonprisoner, leaving him with a lifelong hostility toward Great Britain. In 1781, Jackson worked for a time in a saddle maker s shop. Later, he taught school and studied law in Salisbury, North Carolina. In 1787, he was admitted to the bar, and moved to Jonesborough. Jackson began working as a prosecuting attorney and later set up his own private practice. Shortly after he met and married Rachel Robards, the daughter of a local colonel. Andrew Jackson quickly became a wealthy Tennessee lawyer and rising young politician. In 1796, Jackson joined a committee tasked with drafting the new Tennessee state constitution and soon after he became the first man from Tennessee to be elected into the U.S. House of Representatives. Although after his term was over in March 1797 he returned home without seeking reelection, he was almost immediately elected into the U.S. Senate. Only a year later Jackson resigned from the senate and was elected as a judge of Tennessee s superior court. • 10. Modern Philosophy Of The Modern World And The External World Lauren Estes Modern Philosophy Prof. Corsa As humans, I do not think we know as much as we think we know. Perhaps this is the reason why in matters of Philosophical research some claim to have discovered the truth, while others declare that finding it is an impossibility, and other are still seeking it (SE Handout 31). The word truth in this quote is ambiguous. I believe that we will spend the rest of eternity seeking the truth. The truth can mean many things to many different people. What is true for you may not be true for me. Many of the modern philosophers dance around the question, What is real and what is not? Although there are many arguments for and against the internal world and the external world, I tend to lead towards the skeptics point of view. I do this on the simple notion that many of the skeptics arguments are hard to refute. Much like Sextus Empiricus, I argue that we cannot know anything with absolute certainty about the external world. Those who say that Sceptic deny appearances seem to me to be ignorant of what we say (SE Handout 38). Sextus Empricus does not deny appearances, he just is aware that we might not know for certain anything about the external world. Sextus Empiricus infers, honey appears to use to have a sweetening quality. This much we can concede, because it affects us with a sensation of sweetness. The question, however, is whether it is sweet in an absolute sense (SE Handout 38). Skeptics are not crazy humans that simply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Book Tale Of Despereaux I chose the book Tale of Despereaux. The reason why is quite simple. I love this book and I always have. This book, I feel like, has always understood, that is if books could understand, and I have always had a deep connection with it and its characters. I have read this book several hundred times and it will never ever get old to me. I could read it when I m fifty. This was my favorite book back in the day, and now because of this assignment, I get to read it once more! I will never and can never forget this book. Book one, Coda. This book is split up into four books, and here we will start off with the reading of the first five chapters. Despereaux was the only surviving mouse out of all that were born. He had great big ear for his size, and his eyes were open at birth. He got his name Despereaux for all of the sadness and despair were they live. His parents, along with everyone else in the mouse community did not think he would live, but he did. His brothers and sisters picked on him quite often for his size and for all of his looks. He didn t mind, he never even let it bother him when his mother or father called him a disappointment for his looks or his inability or unwillingness to act like a mouse. His brother, Furlough, took him on a tour of the castle to learn how to be a mouse, but his attempts to teach Despereaux went in one ear and out the other. His sister even tried taking him to the library to learn how to eat paper. But when Despereaux saw the paper he saw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Tsunami Of The Earthquake The Tsunami March 11, 2011 was a day that impacted many lives. Little did anyone know that thirty seven miles off the east coast of Japan a disaster was brewing. Tension on the Circum Pacific Belt was released. When this tension released the Pacific Plate was thrusted 5 8 meters above its previous location(book). This thrust upward displaces water, which will cause a tsunami. A tsunami is large ocean wave that are set in motion be a major undersea earthquake(book). Whilst the importance and benefits of LOTC has been reported by many educational and professional bodies in the past, it has also been noted that some schools are reluctant to plan for LOTC due to the pressure of a packed National Curriculum and time constraints (Maynard and Waters, 2007). However, Ofsted has addressed these concerns, along with concerns about financial barriers and health and safety aspects, in their report dated 2008. • 18. Family Symbolism In Literature Symbolism Conveyed Through Works About Family In literature, authors often utilize symbolism, using something tangible or even a person to represent an idea. Whether interpreting a poem, short story, or novel, it is possible to identify symbolism if it exists, and most times allows a more entertaining experience for the reader. Through the unit entitled Family, many of the works that are studied contain literary symbols that can be interpreted. Specifically, this essay will discuss symbols in My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, Sonny s Blues by James Baldwin, and Daddy by Sylvia Plath. The first work studied in the family unit that contains obvious use of symbolism is My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke. In a poem with a name of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This image, father whisking the kid away to bed, shows that, no matter how tough the waltz was, this kid still loves his papa. Behind the joy of the dance and the father son love in this poem, there s a hint of violence. While there is no indication of overt abuse, there are hints of violent tension throughout the poem. For example, lines one and two clearly establish that Papa is drunk, which is a situation that can and likely will lead to violence in any situation. This is expanded upon in line three, when the speaker has slipped in the inevitable end to violence death. The child hung on like death. He s holding on to his father so hard that he s as inescapable as death. In what could be a happy poem about this father and son s relationship, we see death creep in to frighten us right from the start. In lines nine and ten, the father holds the son s hand to lead him in the dance but, because his knuckle is battered, this posture seems, if not violent, at least rough. Battered is an intense word to use for a knuckle, and could imply some lurking violence. In line eleven, Papa doesn t seem like he s being violent intentionally here, but he s accidentally hurting his child. Family Story And Origin Of A New Environment Every family story and origin is unique to the members of the immediate group, while including the traditions passed from generation to generation. From the scent of their house and clothes, special holidays, vacation spots, memories, what they eat and how it is served; all of these elements of life are distinct to a family. These elements are incorporated into what is viewed as normal life in a way that we don t see how our lives differ from those around us, until we are faced with a situation where things are done differently than us. Many families contain multi cultural backgrounds, therefore providing generations with traditions that include folklore from different origins. One of the biggest elements of culture how dishes are served and prepared. If you ever travel, one of the biggest attractions to a new environment is the foodthat is served in that area. Some food traditions are difficult to explain and don t make sense to outsiders, but to the family or local group it is a sense of definition and unity through foodways. In Louisiana especially, with Cajun culture, we see many festivals and events that are food based, and the pride in the locals that serve it. About 50 million people that have a disability lead their own independent lives. Although similar in several ways, these two leaders have many differences as well. Joseph Stalin was an imperious and domineering dictator of Russia from 1929 to 1953. Following Lenin s death, Stalin moved up in the ranks in the communist party, outflanked his fellow party men, and subsequently seized leadership of the Soviet Union. He then established a totalitarian communist system of government and utilized terror tactics in order to ensure that his laws were followed while his rule remained unchallenged. Stalin employed secret police to spy on citizens and urged citizens to spy on each other. Additionally, he enforced freedomless press and speech; violators of his laws were sent to Gulags, labor camps . After promises to build Russia into a strong market economy and to end corruption, Vladimir Putin was elected as president of Russia in 2000, was re elected in 2004, and was re elected once again in 2012 . • 27. Insenstivity Of Humanness In The Stranger By Albert Camus In society, behaving in a way that distances oneself from others is viewed as unacceptable: be it mentally or physically. In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the main character, Meursault, does just that. Throughout the novel, Meursault creates a problem for himself by emphasizing his individual existence rather than acknowledging others. The text suggests that the solution to the presented problem for Meursault is to recognize the subjectivity of others around him: such as his mother and friends. Meursault primarily shows his insensitivity toward others at his mother s funeral. At the funeral, Meursault does not cry or show any signs of mourning the death of his mother. He is very passive, and he even disregards the feelings of others present. The text states, The woman kept on crying. It surprised me, because I didn t know who she was. I wished I didn t have to listen to her anymore (10). This quote demonstrates Meursault s passivity about the feelings of others. He puts off the feelings of the woman due to the fact that he has never seen her and he wants her to essentially shut up. This insensitivity towards others and his own mother s death is eventually used against him when he is being tried for murder. The fact that Meursault did not cry during the funeral and that he admittedly smoked in front of his mother s casket while keeping vigil leads the prosecutor to question Meursault s place in society. When an extra ВЈ35,000 of income is earned (a total income of ВЈ42,475), the tax of 20% reduces the total income to ВЈ35,475 of net adjusted income. When the income is ВЈ90,000 which is the maximum the mother can earn, the income tax reduces her income to ВЈ63,990 because of the 40% income tax after ВЈ35,000 of income. This short story narrates about a woman named Martha Bes that apparently died. The main character is debating whether or not she is alive or dead. Also she goes about asking what God wanted her to do. The book of Martha written by Octavia Butler uses literary elements to present the overall message what is God s purpose in life. Then she felt stiff and stopped working at five in the morning. Suddenly, she asks her self where she was. and in a surprising way she started telling herself that she could not be in heaven. Crimes that are committed in the virtual realm encompass a wide category. Thanks to the easy availability and increasing dependence on technology, cybercrimes are a fast growing criminal undertaking that is limitless in its potential. With the fast pace advancements in technology, cybercriminals are evolving their methods faster than law enforcement can advance theirs making it difficult to incriminate them. In addition, the lack of a physical barrier, as well as the lack of an individual or corporation knowing they are victims, makes it difficult to trace the criminals because no barrier is preventing attacks from occurring, or isolating it to a local area, and because attacks do not cause physical or mental harm. However, with research and resources, law enforcement has identified a common medium a cybercriminal uses to commit crimes: crimeware, commonly known as computer viruses. When discussing cybercrime, common terms that come to mind are viruses, hacking and online identity theft. All these three terms share a common characteristic: they all require software. ( NFIA launches campaign , 2010, p. 5). Opponents of legalization also argue the gateway effect, asserting that the younger one begins using marijuana, the more likely he or she will be to use cocaine or heroin as an adult. However, proponents highlight that in 2006, eight out of 10 states where marijuana is legal saw a decrease in teen use of marijuana over a seven year period. In addition, advocates of legalization have shown that while marijuana was the cause of 279 deaths between 1997 and 2005, there were 11,687 deaths from 17 different prescription medicines (Anonymous, 2010). Beyond these more obvious arguments, legalization would bring new issues to the forefront. Employers would be faced with revamping drug testing policies and the health insurance agencies would have prescription and treatment ramifications to deal with. Weighing the arguments and implications is a daunting task. Economic and social considerations must also be factored into the argument. Time Magazine reported that the United States spends about $150 billion on the criminal justice system and 47.5% of all drug arrests are marijuana related. That is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. How Is Paradiso Created By Dantes Inferno Why do most readers tend to read only Inferno? In the 1300s, Dante Alighieri wrote three parts to the epic poem, The Divine Comedy, an imaginary story about himself. Dante is given a tour of the three different sections of Heaven: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. Alighieri puts Dante through innumerable experiences that change him as The Divine Comedyprogresses. Before Dante s journey through Inferno, he realizes his current way of life is not on the true path . In other words, Dante is not living life the way he should purely and without sinning. Alighieri compares this feeling to being alone in a dark wood; as he says in line three of Canto I. When Virgilcalls to Charon to take them to the circles of hell, Dante passes out because he is overwhelmed and frightened. This event shows that he is shocked and not prepared for the things he is about to go through. The second circle is filled with the lustful souls. These souls are punished by being constantly blown by wind, preventing them from finding tranquility. Expectantly, Dante feels sympathy towards these souls, because they are damned because of their love. In the fifth circle, Dante recognizes someone from his life whom he despises, and is glad... In an ideal world all parents and children would develop secure, healthy attachments, unfortunately, this is not always the case. A theorist named Mary Ainsworth did extensive studies into the different types of attachments that parents and children form.
