Rainy Day Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme of a rainy day may initially seem like a simple task, given the
commonality of experiencing such days. However, delving into the intricacies of this seemingly
straightforward topic reveals a complexity that challenges even the most seasoned writers.
The challenge lies in striking a balance between capturing the essence of a rainy day and
avoiding clichГ©s or generic descriptions. Describing the sound of raindrops, the earthy scent
after a downpour, or the cozy feeling of being indoors may be tempting, but conveying these
experiences in a unique and engaging manner requires a nuanced approach. Writers must
navigate the fine line between vivid imagery and avoiding overused expressions, ensuring that
the essay stands out amid a sea of similar compositions.
Furthermore, the difficulty arises in maintaining a cohesive narrative structure. While exploring
personal experiences or fictional scenarios related to rainy days, it becomes crucial to weave a
compelling storyline that captivates the reader's attention from start to finish. Transitioning
smoothly between different aspects of a rainy day, such as the mood it creates, its impact on
nature, or the emotions it evokes, demands skillful organization and coherence.
Another challenge is avoiding monotony in language and expression. Given the familiarity of
rainy days, there is a risk of falling into predictable patterns of description. A successful essay on
this topic requires a creative use of language, incorporating varied sentence structures,
metaphors, and literary devices to keep the reader engaged.
In conclusion, while the topic of a rainy day might seem straightforward, crafting a compelling
essay on this theme involves overcoming challenges related to originality, narrative structure, and
language diversity. However, with careful thought and creative flair, a writer can transform the
seemingly mundane into a captivating exploration of the nuances of a rainy day.

Basketball Player Journey
My senior project will be about the journey to becoming a proffessional basketball
player. I chose this particular subject because I love the sport and think I could do it
as a career if I keep on the path of hard work and playing in college. I love basketball;
it relieves stress from school, home and personal issues. I started playing basketball

He then capped a memorable season by helping the Warriors knock off LeBron

championship since 1975.
For an encore, Curry helped the Warriors to 24 consecutive wins out of the starting
gate in 2015 16, a torrid pace that propelled the team to an NBA record 73 wins.
The superstar guard again demonstrated his unparalleled skills throughout the
season, finishing with an astounding 402 three pointers and league high 30.1 points
per game. In May 2016, Curry became the first person to be named Most Valuable
Player by unanimous vote in NBA history, and one of only 11 players to win the
MVP award two years in a row.
I never really set out to change the game. I never thought that would happen in my
career, Curry said after receiving the MVP honor. What I wanted to do was just be
myself. ... I know it inspires a lot of the next generation, a lot of people who love
the game of basketball to value the skill of it, value the fact that you can work

of religion in the northern colonies. Many of the things that happened or they
endured were seen as different manifestations of their religion. Things such as
losing material possessions or dying in a unforeseen way were seen as God

time in various parts of the Northern colonies. While in New London he watches as
people come together and burn their material possessions in order to save their souls.
They believe that by letting go of these worldly possessions that they idolize, their
souls shall be set free. They felt unworthy and often felt they were sinners, trying their

The Importance of Numbers in Chemistry
In chemistry, numbers are very important in making calculations as well as collecting
and recording data. Because numbers are so prevalent in this field of study, many
chemists find it important to use very precise numbers. Their best way of doing so is
through significant figures. The significant figures for any numberare the numbers
that carry meaning contributing to that numbers precision. In order for a number to
be significant, it must follow a series of rules. For example, only zeroes that are
between two non zero numbers or zeroes that both are to the right of a decimaland
follow a number greater than zero can be considered significant figures. In addition,
any number greater than zero is considered a significant figure, despite where it is
located in a numerical value. These rules that help clarify the significant figures of a
value are just a few of the many rules that pertain to significant figures. When it
comes to calculations, the rules for the number of significant figures a product or
quotient can have, differs from those of the number of significant figures a sum or
difference can. In multiplication and division calculations, the product and quotient
are expected to be rounded to the same number of significant figures as the least
precise piece of data in the calculation. In addition and subtraction, the sum and
difference are expected to be rounded to the same number of decimal places as the
least precise piece of data. In any calculation, the significant

Purpose
Let s assume that we have two solutions, a clear and a colored one, whose
concentrations and identities are unknown. If we shine some light of some intensity
towards them; some of this light will go through and some of it will be absorbed.
This is important because based on the amount of light absorbed by the solutions we
can calculate their concentrations. This important and simple principle is known as
Beer s Lambert law; which states that the absorbance is proportional to the product of
the path length, the molar absorptivity and the concentration of a solution. The
product of molar absorptivity times path length gives the value of K, which is the
slope. (Equation below)
A = Жђ.Ж–. C
K = Жђ.Ж–.
A=KГ—C
Spectrophotometry is the quantitative measurement of light absorption and
transmittance as a function of a wavelength. The instrument used for
spectrophotometry is called the spectrophotometer, and the way it works is as
follows. Let s say we have a source of light, which normally is a deuterium lamp.
The beam of light projected by the bulb will hit the diffraction gradient, which looks
like a prism. Diffraction gradient will adjust so that only a specific wavelength will
make it through an exit slit that eventually hits the sample, whose identity and
concentration is unknown. Light absorbed and/or transmitted by the sample will be
sensed by the detector which will be

Buck V Bell Case Summary
Buck v.Bell. 274 U.S. 200. Supreme Court (1927). Rpt. in Bioethics and The Law.
Ed. Janet L. Dolgin Lois L. Shepherd. New York: Wolters Kluwer Law and Business,
2013. 254.
Written by Justice Holmes, the infamous Buck v Bell opinion, gives a summary and
an analysis of how the court reached the decision to uphold Virginia s sterilization
statute. The case involved Carrie Buck, an 18 year old women in a Virginia
institution for feeble minded individuals, she was to be sterilized after being found to
be feeble minded. In addition to the summary of the case, Holmes raises his concerns
with having more feeble minded individuals and criminals parading the streets which
justifies coerced sterilization.
Justice Holmes opinion creates a picture of negative eugenics which makes this case
a pinnacle in coerced sterilization discourse. Written in 1927, this opinion is the only
primary source on this list, with the exception of the opinion by Justice Douglas
concerning Skinner v Oklahoma. It is also important to note that this opinion is the
only source advocating for coerced sterilization.

should be implemented to keep intelligence from declining. She also connects

Johann left the Josef s group in 1825. Josef Lanner quickly became highly regarded
and very popular for his waltzes. He began giving concerts in the Vienna Volsgarten
in 1831 and he conducted the chamber ball in the Hofburg beginning in the year
1840. His music spread all over Europe and even to the USA where it was very
popular. His popularity eventually waned in the shadow of Johann Strauss.
Lanner composed the piece Die Mozartisten for the 15th anniversary of Mozart s
death as a tribute. The second piece I listened to was the Concierto Madrigal by
Joaquin Rodrigo. The piece was very, very long. As a listener, it was easy to tell
there were many separate works or sections within this piece. The overall feel was
a Spanish theme with a lot of great guitar playing. As expressed by Oxford Music
Online, Joaquin Rodrigo became blind at the age of three and remained so until
his death. He lived almost exactly a century later than Josef Lanner. Joaquin was
born in Sagunto on the 22nd of November in the year 1901. He studied music in
France and married a Turkish pianist. Soon after his first composition entitled the
Concierto de Aranjuez, he became widely recognized as a leading composer in
Spain. He is accredited with an estimated 170 compositions, 11 of which are
concertos. Towards the end of the 60 s, Rodrigo composed the Concierto Madrigal
for two guitars. It is said that the piece was based on a Renaissance love
Taking a Look at Cyber Crime
Introduction
Cybercrime describe a heinous act that interferes with the functioning of the computer
networks by exposing the users of the networks together with the systems to risks.
The act is committed intentionally with the objective of creating interruptions that
disrupt the normal functioning of the system. Computer users feel the harm directly
or through a second party depending on the nature of the tool used in committing the
crime (Hull and Sivanesar, 2013, p 98). Computer users across the globe are facing
threat, due to the rise in cases of cyber crime, and this is necessitating the intervention
of the government through enactment of policies that govern the usage of computer
technology. According to Richardson (2008, p 3), cyber crime has grown to
catastrophic levels thus posing a challenge to global security. Consequently, besides
cyber crime affecting the security of individual users of the system, it has a
significant effect on the social, political and economic aspects of people s live hood.
As discussed in the piece, cyber crime is an advanced form of violation of the law
that poses challenges that were inexistent to the globe prior to the introduction of
computers.
Forms of Cyber Crime
Critics categorize computer crime into two groups namely; offences targeting people
using computers, and offenses, which interfere with the functioning of computer
networks. The common crimes that affect networks in this case include viruses,
restrictive access, and malwares.

to suppress his first published novel, feeling it was not equal to the standard of his
later work. He was very successful in publishing several short stories. Nathaniel

The History of Disk Jockey s
In 1935, American commentator Walter Winchell coined the term disc jockey (the
combination of disc , referring to the disc records, and jockey , which is an
operator of a machine) as a description of radio announcer Martin Block, the first
announcer to become a star. While his audience was awaiting developments in the
Lindbergh kidnapping, Block played records and created the illusion that he was
broadcasting from a ballroom, with the nation s top dance bands performing live.
The show, which he called Make Believe Ballroom, was an instant hit. The term disc

Turntablism, the art of using turntables not only to play music, but to manipulate
sound and create original music, began to develop.
In 1974, Technics released the first SL 1200 turntable, which evolved into the SL
1200 MK2 in 1979, which as of the mid 2000s remains the industry standard for
deejaying. In 1974, German electronic music band Kraftwerk released the 22 minute
song Autobahn , which takes up the entire first side of that LP. Years later, Kraftwerk
would become a significant influence on hip hop artists such as Afrika Bambaataa
and house music pioneer Frankie Knuckles. During the mid 1970s, Hip hop music
and culture began to emerge, originating among urban African Americans and Latinos
in New York City. The four main elements of hip hop culture were MCing (rapping),
DJing, graffiti, and breakdancing.
In the mid 1970s, the soul funk blend of dance pop known as Disco took off in the
mainstream pop charts in the United States and Europe, causing discotheques to
experience a rebirth. Unlike many late 1960s, clubs, which featured live bands,
discotheques used the DJs selection and mixing of records as the entertainment. In
1975, Record pools began, enabling disc jockeys access to newer music from the
industry in an efficient method.
In 1976, American DJ, editor, and producer Walter Gibbons remixed Ten Percent by
Double Exposure, one of the earliest commercially released 12 singles (aka maxi

Fluoride Conspiracy By Laurie Higgs
Fluoride has been used by people for many decades. The most common use is in
toothpaste. Fluoride was added to toothpaste to lower the amount of dental cavities
that one gets, and works by protecting the enamel (outer hard layer over the tooth).
Another use of fluoride is in drinking water. It was added to drinking water to also
help with tooth decay. Many people are debating whether or not this is truly safe. In
the essay, The FluorideConspiracy , by Laurie Higgs, she talks about the use of
fluoride drinking waters and dangers it brings by using logos, pathos, and ethos.
Higgs explains in her essay that the use of fluoride has been used in water for some
time now and that it is used to help prevent tooth decay as stated in her citations.
She further explains that when brushing ones teeth and swallows an x amount of
toothpaste that that one should called poison control, so why would one be able to
drink it? About sixty percent of homes contain fluoride added water and an average
person is suppose to drink eight 8 ounce glasses of water each day, while the amount
of fluoride in each glass contains more than twice the amount (to be consumed) of
fluoride allowed in toothpaste (Higgs par.2), and if one had too much... Show more

In the essay it states that fluoride in water is a dangerous poison and toxic (Higgs
para.3). She uses these words to explain the effects of fluoride and creates the reader
to have fear. She also uses appeals to pathos by explaining that by drinking the water
one can increase hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is when the thyroid gland does
not produce enough thyroid hormone. The essay says that hypothyroidism can lead to
depression, fatigue, weight gain, muscle and joint pains, increased cholesterol levels
and heart disease (as qtd. in Higgs par.5). The author uses human health and the
problems that can arise from drinking water with fluoride to evoke the readers
Who Is The Captain Of Industry Dbq
Robber Barons In the new industrial age, people such as Andrew Carnegie and JD
Rockefeller played a key role industrializing America. They paved the way for future
industry with their creativity and ambition (Document C 2, historian B, 1953). The
United States would not be as technologically advanced if these poeple didnt come
up with the stratigies that they did. Carnegie was thought to be the industrail hero of
the time, while Rockefeller was thought to be the Oil hero. Although they created the
baseline to all industrial essentials, these poeple were indeed corrupt. These so
called Captains of Industry took advantage of their workers and abused their power.

many people. Working with fire can make the room extremly hot and unbarrible

workers that put together the railroads and sysckrapers are often recongized, but the
people who manufacture the steel and the other industrial equipment have it the

Game Theory
Game theory descriptive, normative or prescriptive?
Going through life we often are surprised by the different ways how people think,
make decisions and interact. We believe that most of us are rational human beans (to
some extent) and, therefore, our decisions should be grounded in analysis of the
situation, our experience and intuition. Therefore, the human mind can be seen as an
incredibly complicated machine that runs series of theoretical simulations of possible
situations (often subconsciously) to find the most optimal course of action, taking
into consideration the possible strategies of others. When the decisions are important
to us and the reasoning process is conscious, we engage in strategic thinking. It has

In the Oxford English dictionary the definition of game theory is as follows the branch
of mathematics concerned with the analysis of strategies for dealing with competitive
situations where the outcome of a participant s choice of action depends critically on
the actions of other participants. Game theory has been applied to contexts in war,
business, and biology. From the definition we see the important factors are the
mathematical analysis, different strategic options with different outcomes (pay offs)
and the interdependence of the players. Therefore it indeed looks like the so desired
theory described in the introduction of the essay, however, what does it actually
deliver, that is the main focus of this essay. Modern game theory has been
developing now for more than 50 years since the book Theory of Games and
Economic Behavior by John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern was published
in 1944. However, it must be noted that some important efforts in explaining the
strategic choices strategic decision making has been done also before, for example
by Zermelo. Konong, Kalmar and Borel. Game theory has evolved considerably
since the publication of von Neuman and Morgenstern s book and what is interesting
the theory has developed far beyond its initial mathematical boundaries. This is due
in a large part to contributions in the 1950s from John Nash (1950, 1951). However,
it was in the 1970s
Comparing Ju-On And The Grudge
It is not uncommon for a film to become so popular in one country that it gets
remade in another. After the remake of the 1998 film Ringu was made into the now
well known film The Ring, it sparked a new movement in remaking Japanese horror
films and molding them in a more American style. Not to long after this movement

During these times of economic failure, the GDP fell drastically along with
unemployment on the rise. Since it was still traditional in many households that
men were still the ones who were suppose to provide and take care of the family, it
caused a lot of stress on many of them when it came time to find jobs and work
them. Many of the men who worked during this decade of time were known as
salarymen, who were the leading reason to why Japan remained one of the more
dominate economies during that time. Salarymen often had a hard life because it
was often expected of them to put their job over everything else including their
family and any other personal relations. Many of these salarymen would often be
known to work possibly sixty hours or more a week and many of their jobs were
white collar jobs. To many of these salarymen, it seemed as if their economy would
never rise back up to what it use to be and many felt as if they were trapped in this
nonstop depression. Because many of the salarymen worked almost nonstop and had
little hope that their economy would recover, some of them would die because they
had been overworked and their bodies and minds just simply could not take it
anymore. Although the economy was pushing men towards their limits and causing
many of them to question just how masculine they were, many females were

Essay about Barbara Boxer
Barbara Boxer, born Barbara Levy Boxer, is currently a Democratic U.S. Senator
from California. She was first elected to office in 1992. During her terms in office,
Boxer has advocated environmental issues, health care, women s rights, public
safety, and the economy. She has proven to be dedicated to the causes that she said
she would fight for. She has voted against bills such as the Firearms Manufacturer
Bill (which failed) and voted for the Healthy Forests Restoration Act of 2003
(which passes). She had decided to retire in 2004, but changed her mind because
she is so passionate about what she believes in. In September В‘04, Republican Bill

But you can attribute Schwarzenegger s popularity to Gray Davis unpopularity. And
Schwarzenegger was already famous. Nobody knew who Jones was, but everyone
knew who Barbara Boxer was. His loss was practically inevitable. After Senator
Boxer s unsurprising re election to Senate, one of her most noteworthy decisions was
to urge Senate to keep the filibuster. A filibuster is something that the Senators use to
postpone or delay actions from being made. Recently, the Republican Party wanted to
do away with the filibuster so that the Democrats could not use it against their
judges. In 1995, Senator Boxer voted to get rid of the filibuster and admitted she
did so out of frustration . The Senate came to an agreement that if the Democrats use
filibuster free votes for Judges Priscilla Owen, Janice Brown, and Wilson Pryor, they
can block the nominations on Judges Henry Saad and William Myers without the
Republicans trying to do away with the filibuster again. Senator Barbara Boxer has
followed through with her promises. She has voted for environmental issues, better
health care, women s rights, public safety, and the economy. There are so many other
politicians that make campaign promises and never follow through with them once
they get into office. Senator Barbara Boxer isn t one of those politicians. With her in

Life Of Pi Theme Essay Examples
Theme Essay Life of Pi shows that humans and animals should do anything
necessary to survive whatever challenges they face to live instead of just accepting
death. Whatever ways that help one to survive are necessary, even if they
compromise personal values, are vicious, or are wicked. Pi, a human; a hyena, and
a blind man all fight to survive in a variety of ways that are examples of this thesis.
Pi quits his vegetarian diet and also chooses to live on a raft next to a bengal tiger
on a lifeboat, which are both unusual and unconventional choices for him. He
satisfies his hunger by quitting being a vegetarian and eating fish. Pi knows that A
lifetime of peaceful vegetarianism [stands] between [him] and the willful
beheading of a fish (Martel 98). In other words, his body needs the fish because the
beheading had to be done (Martel 98) in order to survive. In addition, Pi decides to
feed a 450 pound (Martel 61) bengal tiger named Richard Parker for his own self
preservation. He acknowledges, I had to tame him. It was at that moment that I
realized this necessity...More likely the worst would happen: the simple passage of
time, in which his animal toughness would easily outlast my human frailty (Martel
164). This means that Pi fears that the fierce animal strength and power of Richard
Parker would eventually kill and eat him for food. Furthermore, Pi confesses to
wanting Richard Parker to live primarily for Pi s own survival when he states, A part

The Norman Conquest By Marc Morris, The Narrative Of
The...
The Norman Conquest by Marc Morris is a narrative of the Norman invasion of
1066. Since the events happened so long ago, there are many incomplete accounts of
the events. Even these incomplete accounts are usually heavily biased. As such, it is
a difficult undertaking for a historian to construct a cohesive summary of the period.
Nevertheless, Marc Morris attempted the task, and did an admirable job. It is written
as a narrative, but has enough detail to satisfy a student of history. Morris begins by
exploring the history of one of the few sources that remain of the Norman invasion,
the Bayeux tapestry. The tapestry has had a long history of trading hands and
escaping harm seemingly miraculously. According to Morris, the Bayeux tapestry
has survived looting in the French Revolution, was owned by Napoleon Bonaparte
for a time, and was stolen by Nazis during their occupation of France in World War
II. Aside from its own fascinating history, the tapestry itself is not a flawless source.
Morris points out that it is in fact incomplete, as it abruptly stops at Harold
Godwinsons death. It was also in part copied from older accounts of the invasion
and therefore is not a primary source. It is also non committal in its portrayal of
events and the captions are for the most part willfully obscure or ambiguous (p. 4).
In other words, it seems intended more to be a narrative than as a factual historical
record. Exact dates are often not given for important events, such as the
Hayden s Sympathy For His Father In Those Winter Sunday
The speaker of Those Winter Sunday described the hard labor of his father in which
no one appreciate, but he is still able to take care of his family. The speaker used
imagery, alliteration, and word choice to recalls the unconditional love his father
shows him when he was a child. Hayden uses profound imagery to transmit his
emotions. Every winter Sunday morning; also during the weekday, the speakerwill
stay in bed while his father rose up to kindle the fire to warm the house. The
speaker voiced sympathy for his father getting up on a cold Sunday morning to
care for him. The speaker states, Sundays too my father got up early/and put his
clothes on in the blueblack cold. (Hayden 1 2). The speaker did not give direct
statements to describes the love his father shows him; however, his description
creates a clear image of events in the reader mind. He gives image of his father as a
hard working man who did not took day off to rest. Hayden states that his father
has got cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday (3 4), making the
reader to feel sympathy for his father. In line 5 the speaker states No one ever

Profitability ratios
These are used to assess how successful the management of a business has been at

This ratio compares gross profit (profit before deduction of overheads) with sales

Casey Bat Anticlimax
Casey at the Bat is a well known poem, written by Ernest Thayer, about baseball.
The plot of the story is that the Mudville baseball team is down, 2 4, with two outs,
late in the ninth. Two of the worst batters get on base, then their best batter, Casey,
steps up to bat. Ultimately, Casey strikes out, and Mudville loses. Many people
that haven t read this poem before expect a drastically different ending. What
would this kind of ending be called? The ending of this story in particular would be
called an anticlimax. An anticlimax is when a story builds up suspense, and keeps
building, until the end. The ending is kind of a let down; not what a reader would
have expected. A great example of anticlimax would be when the two worst batters

This led to various sectarian strifes among the countries in the Middle East. Since
Russia started bombing, they have mostly targeted anti Assad rebels, rather than ISIL
which they stated they were bombing. I propose to include Russia in the current
coalition, led by the United States, which also include Australia, Bahrain, Canada,
France, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United
Kingdom. There will have to be negotiations in order to get Russia to cooperate so
they do not go rogue and bomb targets that are supported by the West and other
countries in the coalition. By having Russia in the coalition and working with the
United States, there will be a greater oversight of their operations and more
transparency among the nations. This will help with making strategic attacks so
ISIL can be degraded and destroyed and also so the Assad regime will finally
relinquish power to a democratic government. There also must be targeted strikes
upon ISIL s main sources of income: oil reserves. Although this may harm potential
future capabilities of Syria or Iraq to drill for oil, it will severely disrupt the income
of ISIL so that they will not be able to buy the resources necessary to fight against the
governments and to maintain the territory which it has already conquered. Next, in

The Old Age Question Of A Tangible Heaven And Hell
Many people are scared of death, not because of the actual act of dying and the fact
that you will no longer be on this earth with those you love. But because they are
scared of what awaits for them in the afterlife, whether it be heaven or hell.
Realistically though, is there a literal heaven and hell, and if so what will it be like?
Assuming there is a heavenand a hell, if one asks a multitude of people what they
believe the afterlife will be, some will say heaven will be a room full of white
lights with a golden gate and peaceful vibes, and when referring to hell many will
say it s a dark room full of anger and pain. Therefore, assuming that there is a
physical Heaven and Hell countless hours of research will contribute to the
information below, multiple definitions and various explanations of what the
afterlife, and underworld will look like will be looked at throughout this paper in
order to answer the old age question of a tangible Heaven and Hell.
The definition of Heaven states a place regarded in various religions as the abode
of God (or the gods) and the angels, and of the good after death, often traditionally
depicted as being above the sky. Now that definition is the first thing that came up
when looked up on google, but if one goes to the Merriam Webster Dictionary there
are multiple definitions. Some of them being the dwelling place of the Deity and the

The environment of Nicaragua has caused complications to the quality of living in
Nicaragua. One of the main environmental issues is the lack of safe drinking water.
Those who cannot afford clean water become susceptible to disease. Most of the
land in Nicaragua is devoted to farming. However to do create new land forests
needed to be deforested. About 70 percent of all of Nicaragua s forests have been
cut down in favor of producing more arable farmland. ( Foundation 1). The lack of
natural barriers in the form of trees has made Nicaragua prone to severe floods and
landslides. Along with floods and landslides nicaragua is also susceptible to
hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanoes (Encyclopedia). Due to Nicaragua s
predominant farming community, tremendous amounts of pesticides need to be used
to protect the fruits and cotton that are exported. These pesticides have caused skin
and breast cancer, liver, pancreas, and kidney problems, nervous disorders, and
miscarriages. 22,000 workers and family members are said to have been affected by
the harmful pesticides (Foundation 1). Nicaragua s environmental issues also have an

Blanche Dubois Patriarchy
Tennessee William s A Streetcar Named Desire distorts truth within Blanche s mind (
I don t tell the truth. I tell what ought to be the truth ) to the extent that veracity itself
is disintegrated unconsciously into her inner deceptive conflict of illusion and
reality. Williams externalises this conflict in the typification of Blanche and Stanley
as Nietzsche s Apollonian Dionysian dialectic in the inevitable destruction of
Blanche in her lies, coerced by women s suffering due to the onslaught of patriarchy.
Back to secrets and lies The deaths that Blanche suffers engender her characterisation
as the Apollonian in her world of delusion and lies. Allan s suicide becomes the first
of Blanche s traumatic encounters with death ( All of those deaths! The long parade
to the graveyard ) embodying in her personified monologue the imminence of death (
Why, the Grim Reaper had put up his tent on our doorstep! ). Further, this
necrophobia and her guilt for Allan s suicide, elicited by the leitmotif Varsouviana
provokes her deterioration into her fantasy as a substratum of her anguish, becoming
the epitome of the Apollonian. Moreover, Allan s... Show more content on

Stanley thrusts Blanche into insanity as means to assert dominance and affirm his
reality by nullifying Blanche s judgement. The rape is such a powerful catalyst for
Blanche s descent into madness, as she discerns the Apollonian consciousness of
sexuality and darkness she has constructed is eerily indistinguishable from Stanley s
Dionysian ecstatic realm. Ergo, she has no true escape in the rhetoric question how
could I stay here with him, after last night, with just those curtains between us? Thus,
Williams encapsulates Blanche as the exemplar of patriarchy s stigmatisation of
female sickness, and fear of feminine sexuality that threatens the balance of the

In what ways did Indigenous peoples resist the non Indigenous settlement of Australia
in the frontier period and how did non Indigenous peoples retaliate? In your answer,
discuss and analyse the initial and ongoing impact on Indigenous communities.

During the Frontier period, Indigenous peoples resisted the non Indigenous settlement
of Australia, throughout 1770 1890. During approximately throughout the 1890 s to
1970 s, the non Indigenous retaliations occurred, resulting in protection, segregation
and the stolen generations. Which initiated an ongoing impact on Indigenous
communities.
There were many different ways in which Aboriginal people resisted the non
indigenous settlement of Australia. In 1770, James Cook first landed in Botany Bay,
which was the home of the Eora People, and claimed the East Coast for Britain.
If the region were not already possessed by a rival, then a state might acquire it in
one of three ways, by persuading the indigenous inhabitants to submit themselves to
its overlordship; by purchasing from those inhabitants the right to settle part or parts
of it; by unilateral possession, on the basis of first discovery and effective occupation
(M. Borch 2001) .
While Britain did not declare war, they did not adhere to any of these requirements
and proceeded to obtain the land as though it were uninhabited. At the

the tree gave him apples, the boy needed a house and the tree gave him her/his
branches.
The actions that the tree showed have proven that the tree is completely selfless. The
tree is completely selfless, the tree gave the boy whatever he needed.
Even when the boy was old the tree provided her/his trunk. The boy was old so he
wanted a boat to go far away but the tree couldn t provide that so he/she gave him
his/her trunk.I am too old and sad to play, said the boy. I want a boat that will
take me far away from here. Can you give me a boat? . Cut down my trunk and
make a boat, said the tree. Then you can sail away... and be happy. Was the
conversation that occurred. It goes to show that even when you are old and alone
there is always someone around that loves you and will help you.The tree has been
really nice to this boy, and she has gave up basically everything she has just to make

Simplicity By William Zinsser
William Zinsser is an American writer who wrote an informational guide to
writing. He made a decision to revise a specific chapter called Simplicity. In the
year 1980, the first version of Simplicity was created, then came 1998 followed up
by 2006. In the first version, 1980, Zinsser created a long and wordy paper. He
used specific examples but included details that were unnecessary. This is ironic
because the paper is about how writers can write unnecessary words and phrases
creating complicated sentences. He was not inclusive of gender, naming men as
writers and only using wives as examples of distraction. This draft had a complete
count of 20 paragraphs. The 1998 version had few changes when compared to the
1980 s version. There... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Paragraph 2 2006) He changed viscous language to clotted language. This makes
sense, he used a more commonly used word to this time period making it readable
to a younger generation of readers and writers. (Paragraph 2 2006) He took out on
Christmas Eve or any other eve , this made sense because it was an extra unneeded
detail. The sentence made complete sense just as what father or mother can put
together a child s toy from the instructions on the box? . In paragraph 4 he changed
what was originally the president of a major university in versions from 1980 and
98 to the president of my university in the 2006 version, making a personal
connection with the reader. (Paragraph 8 2006) He completely redid the paragraph.
In the 1980 and 1994 version, the 8th paragraph was completely unneeded and
included a story that seemed unrelated to the topic of writing. It started as I love to be
alone . The 2006 version of this paragraph wasn t completely off topic from the
original. I still believe this paragraph isn t needed, even with the shortening. With
the 2006 version he has taken out the he s and switched to they . This allows
women to feel included, making it more likely for a female to enjoy the writing. It
felt noninclusive in the first two versions. In the newest version (paragraph 10) he
included devices relevant to that time period. Instead of saying he, he said a man or
woman could be distracted by many forces
Security Vulnerabilities Within Jacket X Corporation s...
Introduction
This paper assesses security vulnerabilities within Jacket X Corporation s
information systems. Jacket X research laboratory is located near a main university
which can cause vulnerabilities when attempting to access the Corporation s
networks. Jacket X Corporation commenced a security vulnerability assessment
after a senior executive s laptop breached the network due to malware on his
computer after allowing his son to use it. In his return before connecting the laptop
to the company s network he did not do anti virus scans or consulted with a member
of the IT department to examine the laptop for any malware that could be on the
company s laptop. In addition a security vulnerability that was identified in the case
study was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, federal and states reports aren t done on a regular basis it should be done
yearly to keep a recent update of what is going on in the company. Detailed
controlled needs to make made of payroll and every process that it entitles.
Access Internal Business Processes Vulnerabilities
Jacket X biggest payroll issue is that privileges aren t based on roles. Jacket X
needs to focus on payroll process; privileges of the system need to be segregated
according to roles. Currently, payroll specialist and administrators have the same
accessibility and are able to add employees to the payroll. There aren t any
restrictions of changes that can be made. Depending on the role of the individual
is the right of access they should obtain for instance, having the capability to add
an employee in payroll should only be a right that the administrator has. This issue
also occurs within supervisors privileges. Although each supervisor is given a
group to manage they are able to see all employees timecards even if those
employees aren t the ones which they are managing. They are able to enter leave if
an employee is absent. Even within segregating accessibility there also needs to be
restrictions of what can be done with the access they ll obtain.
Due to accessibility and the ability to edit timecards anyone has this access and can
add and delete contractors. With the type of accessibility that is currently given
contractors may be created in the payroll master file. This

Why Natural Hair Is Better
Why Natural Hair is better than Chemically Treated Hair
Every woman wants to have wonderful vivacious hair. Every woman now and then
look and ponder at those hair commercials, wondering if they can get the perfect hair
as the women on television. As strange as it may seem maintaining natural hair can
give luscious to die for hair . Women often want to take the easy way to get great
hair with alternatives such as: weaves, relaxers, and maybe color treatments. Many
fail to realize that they can achieve manageable to die for hair without it! Natural
hair is better than chemically treated hair because it prevents protein bonds from
being removed, damage to the hairline, hair follicles and also the cost is effectively.
The relaxer was concocted by an African American tailor named Garrett A. Morgan,
a child of former slaves in 1877 in Paris Kentucky. While working in a sewing
machine repair shop attempting to invent a new lubricating liquid for the machine
needle, it is widely believed that Morgan wiped his hands on a wool cloth, returned
the next day found the woolly textured of the cloth had smoothed out , and set out to
find how the liquid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By definition, a perm is a process where hair is treated with chemicals to alter its
structure. People have attempted permanent waving since Egyptians Romans, but
were not successful. By the beginning of the 20th century a system of permanently
curling hair was introduced using borax paste, an alkaline substance. It was
created by Charles Nessler in 1905.There are different types of perms: body wave,
multi textured, pin curl, root, stack, spiral, spot, gentle wave, partial spiral, and
volumizing perms. There are different types of perms methods used to create
various types of perms. The acid perm is used for hair that is sensitive and this
process minimizes the risk for hair damage. Firm looking curls are possible with the
process of alkaline
Multiculturalism In Music Essay
Visualize in your head a rock band, and a rapper. What kind of clothes are they
wearing. What lyric styles are they singing in? And what color are they? Ongoing
stereotypes suggest that the rock band is a group of white musicians and the rapper
would be black. However, examples from the past and present shows that these
stereotypes are untrue. Music is defined as The art of organizing tones to produce a
coherent sequence of sounds to elicit an aesthetic responsein a listener (Morris, 864).
This country s youth is unlike any others, we have much control over what we do,
and music is something that evolves around all of us. In this essay, I will discuss the
evolution of youth music ranging from early rock, to today s hip hop stars, from...

It gave them a feeling of freedom and joy that had been lacking from previous
music styles. Although rock became an instant hit with the youth, the music
caused displeasure in the adult world. Rock was criticized for juvenile delinquency
to loosened sexual standards (R amp;RG, 27). The most notorious example of what
adults didn t like in rock music can be found in Elvis Presley. Elvis was the first
white performer to expose an audience to rock music. However, the free will style
Elvis exhibited was not a real big hit with the adults, where he was condemned as a
whirling dervish of sex.
Rock music then went on a tear, evolving into many different styles and forms. As
rock matured and diversified, many new artists and distinct styles emerged. Such
examples are blues, featured by B.B. King and Ruth Brown. Harmonious styles such
as The Orioles, the energetic swing sounds of Little Richard, the role model rock
star Pat Boone, and the folk rock of the Everly Brothers. Rock usually evolved to
what was happening in the world during that time period, such as war, politics,
current events, and lifestyles. Another aspect that evolved rock music was
technology. As more and more technology was developed, more integrated sounds
were brought into rock, eventually resulting into such music as pop and disco. Music
was now able to have artificial beats that traditional instruments could not produce.

Adolf Hiltler Shows Good Can be Manipulated into Evil
Is humanity inherently good or evil? I believe that humanity is inherently good
and really does believe in doing good and helping. But I believe that if that good is
put into the wrong hands or is treated the wrong way then that good can be
manipulated into the evil that we find today in our world. The political figure that I
have chosen to show how I express this belief is Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler was born
on the 20th of April in the year 1889, in the small Austrian town of Braunau. Both
of Hitlers parents came from very poor families, his father was the illegitimate son
of a housemaid, Alois Hitler was a intelligent and ambitious man and was very
much respected man at hitlers time. Alois was a senior customs official in lower
Austria. Klara Polzl, hitlers mom, left her home at the age of sixteen to live with
her cousin, Alois Hitler, in the house hold that the cousins lived in Alois started a
sexual relationship with a house maid, Franziska Matzelberger. Franziska saw
Klara as a potential rival who could get in the middle of her and Alois love and
insisted that she leave household which she did. In 1882 Franziska gave birth to a
son named Alois. When Anna Hitler(woman Alois first married) died in 1883, Alois
then married Franziska and two months after the wedding Franziska gave birth to
the second child, Angela. Soon after Franziska developed tuberculosis and Alois
told Klara to come back to the house to care for his two children to relive the stress on
Vision Zero
Vision Zero policies have proved effective in the United States. Minnesota, Utah and
Washington State, traffic fatalities have fallen steadily since the introduction of
Vision Zero style programs in the early 2000 s; a 43% reduction in Minnesota, 48%
reduction in Utah and a 40% decrease in Washington. While trafficfatalities
nationwide are falling, largely due to improvements in emergency/trauma care and
vehicle enhancements such as airbags, fatality rates in Vision Zero states fell over
25% faster than the nation since 1997.
This report investigates existing city Vision Zero policies and programs in other
cities in the United States and abroad. This memo will examine the academic
research that evaluates these policies effectiveness saving lives, then identify ways in
which the city can work towards eliminating road fatalities and serious injuries. It is
recommended that the city make safety the explicit goal or the primary outcome of
the street transportation system. In order to do so, the city should adopt as its
guiding vision a commitment that no one should be killed or seriously injured on
Philadelphia streets. The city must also find new conduits of communication with the
city s diverse communities about the goal of improved ... Show more content on

This analysis draws largely on the work of Leah Shahum, a fellow with the German
Marshall Fund, who spent several months these cities and others to conduct firsthand
research into their approaches.
First, a disclaimer: What the Swedes and to a lesser extent the Germans call Vision
Zero, the Dutch call Sustainable Safety. While there are many similarities to what can
generally be termed a safe systems approach to transportation, there are more
differences than I realized between their efforts.

Renin Angiotensin Aldosterone System Analysis
Renin Angiotensin Aldosterone System (RAAS) is the system that regulates blood
pressure in the body. When the body detects low blood pressure (low fluid/low salts),
the liver releases angiotensinogen (Bayer pharma, 2015). The release of the
angiotensinogen is the beginning of the signal transduction pathway (Bayer pharma,
2015). The angiotensinogen and renin react together to form angiotensin I, then
angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) converts angiotensin I into angiotensin II
(Bayer pharma, 2015). Angiotensin causes vasoconstriction in the bloodvessels,
secretes the water retaining hormone vasopressin (AVP) from the pituitary gland, and
also releases adrenaline, noradrenaline, and aldosterone from the adrenal gland
(Bayer pharma, 2015). Overall blood pressure is most prominently regulated by the
peptide angiotensin II. The angiotensin II controls vasoconstriction through the
regulation of water and salt balance (Lopez 2003). The RAAS is an essential
pathway for the body to regulate blood pressure in the body, but this pathway... Show

ATRAP is found in many organ systems of the body but the highest concentration of
ATRAP is found in the kidneys (Giani 2013). With the advances of gene targeting
technology, the physiological role of ATRAP has been better defined (Giani 2013).
For example in the experiment Angiotensin II type 1 receptor associated protein: a
novel modulator of angiotensin II actions in the nephron they eliminated ATRAP
from the system it showed an elevation in blood pressure by about 8mm/Hg in mice
(Giani 2013). In the experiment Giani found that mice with ATRAP knockout had
elevated plasma and blood volume, which means the absence of ATRAP caused
increased sodium and water retention by the kidneys (Giani 2013). Through the
experiment Giani concluded that ATRAP was a blood pressure modulator based on
ATRAP s negative effects on proximal tubular ATR function (Giani
Vulnerability of Project Management Life Cycle (Pmlc)
Model
The five PMLC models according to Wysocki are as follows:
1.Linear PMLC model
2.Incremental PMLC model
3.Iterative PMLC model
4.Adaptive PMLC model
5.Extreme PMLC model
Linear PMLC Model: This is one of the Traditional Project Management (TPM)
method, it consist of the five process group, each performed once in the sequence:
Scoping Planning Launching Monitoring and Controlling Closing. The final
deliverable is not released until the closing process group is executed. (Wysocki,
2009:345). It is used in a project where the goal and solution are clearly defined and
there will be no need for many scope change requests, such project is usually
repetitive and routine. Examples of such project is the production of yarn in the textile
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This cycle continues until a client is satisfied or the budget and time runs out
(Wysocki, 2009:331). A very understanding managementboard, team and sponsor is
highly required to carry out project using his model, in the event of not having such,
a PM using this model should be ready for anything at anytime not just from Murphy
s law manifestation but from human nature. A very good communication network
and the ability to carry people along is required of such a PM.
Adaptive PMLC Model: Solution discovery is the focus of this model. It is also an
APM model. Between the scoping process group and the closing process group,
the adaptive PMLC model, consist of sequence of phases that are repeated in
cycles, with a feedback loop after each cycle is completed. A cycle proceeds with
based on an incomplete and a limited understanding of solution. The sequence is:
Plan cycle Launch cycle Monitor Control cycle Close cycle Next cycle. Planning is
done here just in time, for there is no need of planning for the future using this
model. It is useful for project oriented to new product development or improvement
whose solution and requirements are partially known and several scope change
request are expected from clients (Wysocki, 2009:404). The success of this model is
based on learning and discovery while on the job. Continual documentation and
constant flow of information to within all
American Revolution Dbq
During 1775 1783, the United States Colonies did not go through a revolution. A
revolution is repudiation and the thorough replacement of an established
government, social, or political system by the people governed (Merriam Webster).
This indicates that the American Revolution was more of an evolution than a
revolution. It was not a revolution because it did not completely revolutionize the
government system, the social system, and it was more of a conquest for power
than a revolution. The government system was not changed drastically and
completely because the revolution before and after 1776 was self governed. The
American colonies were also struggling for power and independence, which is why
it was more of a conquest for power. Lastly,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Prior to the revolution, the American Colonies consisted of several self governing
structures. The first miniature parliament was the House of Burgesses, which was the
first assembly of settlers that formed a legislative. It could create laws and levy taxes,
but ultimately was not centralized to all the colonies. After the revolution, Congress
established the Articles of Confederation. According to the US Department of State,
the Articles of Confederation served as the written document that established the
functions of the national government of the United States. It established a weak
central government that mostly, but not entirely, prevented the individual states from
conducting their own foreign policy (Articles of Confederation, 1777 1781, 1). The
Articles of Confederation was also not yet ratified in all 13 of the colonies.
Similarly, both bodies were self governed and did not govern all of the colonies.
Contrastingly, some might argue that the House of Burgesses differs from the
Articles of Confederation because England could veto any laws or taxes, but the
definition of revolution refers to a complete change in government. The government
system was not revolutionized because they were still democratically

Rainy Day Essay.pdf

  • 1. Rainy Day Essay Crafting an essay on the theme of a rainy day may initially seem like a simple task, given the commonality of experiencing such days. However, delving into the intricacies of this seemingly straightforward topic reveals a complexity that challenges even the most seasoned writers. The challenge lies in striking a balance between capturing the essence of a rainy day and avoiding clichГ©s or generic descriptions. Describing the sound of raindrops, the earthy scent after a downpour, or the cozy feeling of being indoors may be tempting, but conveying these experiences in a unique and engaging manner requires a nuanced approach. Writers must navigate the fine line between vivid imagery and avoiding overused expressions, ensuring that the essay stands out amid a sea of similar compositions. Furthermore, the difficulty arises in maintaining a cohesive narrative structure. While exploring personal experiences or fictional scenarios related to rainy days, it becomes crucial to weave a compelling storyline that captivates the reader's attention from start to finish. Transitioning smoothly between different aspects of a rainy day, such as the mood it creates, its impact on nature, or the emotions it evokes, demands skillful organization and coherence. Another challenge is avoiding monotony in language and expression. Given the familiarity of rainy days, there is a risk of falling into predictable patterns of description. A successful essay on this topic requires a creative use of language, incorporating varied sentence structures, metaphors, and literary devices to keep the reader engaged. In conclusion, while the topic of a rainy day might seem straightforward, crafting a compelling essay on this theme involves overcoming challenges related to originality, narrative structure, and language diversity. However, with careful thought and creative flair, a writer can transform the seemingly mundane into a captivating exploration of the nuances of a rainy day. If you find yourself struggling with such essays or need assistance with various topics, you can explore additional resources and services available at HelpWriting.net. • 9. The Importance of Numbers in Chemistry In chemistry, numbers are very important in making calculations as well as collecting and recording data. Because numbers are so prevalent in this field of study, many chemists find it important to use very precise numbers. Their best way of doing so is through significant figures. The significant figures for any numberare the numbers that carry meaning contributing to that numbers precision. In order for a number to be significant, it must follow a series of rules. For example, only zeroes that are between two non zero numbers or zeroes that both are to the right of a decimaland follow a number greater than zero can be considered significant figures. In addition, any number greater than zero is considered a significant figure, despite where it is located in a numerical value. These rules that help clarify the significant figures of a value are just a few of the many rules that pertain to significant figures. When it comes to calculations, the rules for the number of significant figures a product or quotient can have, differs from those of the number of significant figures a sum or difference can. In multiplication and division calculations, the product and quotient are expected to be rounded to the same number of significant figures as the least precise piece of data in the calculation. In addition and subtraction, the sum and difference are expected to be rounded to the same number of decimal places as the least precise piece of data. In any calculation, the significant
  • 10. Questions On The Quantification Of Light Absorption And... Quantification of гЂ–CrгЂ—^(3+) and гЂ–CoгЂ—^(2+)in a Mixture Natalia Nole Last updated: September 12, 2016 Purpose Let s assume that we have two solutions, a clear and a colored one, whose concentrations and identities are unknown. If we shine some light of some intensity towards them; some of this light will go through and some of it will be absorbed. This is important because based on the amount of light absorbed by the solutions we can calculate their concentrations. This important and simple principle is known as Beer s Lambert law; which states that the absorbance is proportional to the product of the path length, the molar absorptivity and the concentration of a solution. The product of molar absorptivity times path length gives the value of K, which is the slope. (Equation below) A = Жђ.Ж–. C K = Жђ.Ж–. A=KГ—C Spectrophotometry is the quantitative measurement of light absorption and transmittance as a function of a wavelength. The instrument used for spectrophotometry is called the spectrophotometer, and the way it works is as follows. Let s say we have a source of light, which normally is a deuterium lamp. The beam of light projected by the bulb will hit the diffraction gradient, which looks like a prism. Diffraction gradient will adjust so that only a specific wavelength will make it through an exit slit that eventually hits the sample, whose identity and concentration is unknown. Light absorbed and/or transmitted by the sample will be sensed by the detector which will be

The case involved Carrie Buck, an 18 year old women in a Virginia institution for feeble minded individuals, she was to be sterilized after being found to be feeble minded. In addition to the summary of the case, Holmes raises his concerns with having more feeble minded individuals and criminals parading the streets which justifies coerced sterilization. Justice Holmes opinion creates a picture of negative eugenics which makes this case a pinnacle in coerced sterilization discourse. Johann left the Josef s group in 1825. Josef Lanner quickly became highly regarded and very popular for his waltzes. He began giving concerts in the Vienna Volsgarten in 1831 and he conducted the chamber ball in the Hofburg beginning in the year 1840. His music spread all over Europe and even to the USA where it was very popular. His popularity eventually waned in the shadow of Johann Strauss. Lanner composed the piece Die Mozartisten for the 15th anniversary of Mozart s death as a tribute. The second piece I listened to was the Concierto Madrigal by Joaquin Rodrigo. The piece was very, very long. As a listener, it was easy to tell there were many separate works or sections within this piece. The overall feel was a Spanish theme with a lot of great guitar playing. As expressed by Oxford Music Online, Joaquin Rodrigo became blind at the age of three and remained so until his death. He lived almost exactly a century later than Josef Lanner. Joaquin was born in Sagunto on the 22nd of November in the year 1901. He studied music in France and married a Turkish pianist. Soon after his first composition entitled the Concierto de Aranjuez, he became widely recognized as a leading composer in Spain. He is accredited with an estimated 170 compositions, 11 of which are concertos. Towards the end of the 60 s, Rodrigo composed the Concierto Madrigal for two guitars. It is said that the piece was based on a Renaissance love

Taking a Look at Cyber Crime Introduction Cybercrime describe a heinous act that interferes with the functioning of the computer networks by exposing the users of the networks together with the systems to risks. The act is committed intentionally with the objective of creating interruptions that disrupt the normal functioning of the system. Computer users feel the harm directly or through a second party depending on the nature of the tool used in committing the crime (Hull and Sivanesar, 2013, p 98). Computer users across the globe are facing threat, due to the rise in cases of cyber crime, and this is necessitating the intervention of the government through enactment of policies that govern the usage of computer technology. According to Richardson (2008, p 3), cyber crime has grown to catastrophic levels thus posing a challenge to global security. Consequently, besides cyber crime affecting the security of individual users of the system, it has a significant effect on the social, political and economic aspects of people s live hood. As discussed in the piece, cyber crime is an advanced form of violation of the law that poses challenges that were inexistent to the globe prior to the introduction of computers. Forms of Cyber Crime Critics categorize computer crime into two groups namely; offences targeting people using computers, and offenses, which interfere with the functioning of computer networks. The common crimes that affect networks in this case include viruses, restrictive access, and malwares.

The four main elements of hip hop culture were MCing (rapping), DJing, graffiti, and breakdancing. In the mid 1970s, the soul funk blend of dance pop known as Disco took off in the mainstream pop charts in the United States and Europe, causing discotheques to experience a rebirth. • 18. Fluoride Conspiracy By Laurie Higgs Fluoride has been used by people for many decades. The most common use is in toothpaste. Fluoride was added to toothpaste to lower the amount of dental cavities that one gets, and works by protecting the enamel (outer hard layer over the tooth). Another use of fluoride is in drinking water. It was added to drinking water to also help with tooth decay. Many people are debating whether or not this is truly safe. In the essay, The FluorideConspiracy , by Laurie Higgs, she talks about the use of fluoride drinking waters and dangers it brings by using logos, pathos, and ethos. Higgs explains in her essay that the use of fluoride has been used in water for some time now and that it is used to help prevent tooth decay as stated in her citations. She further explains that when brushing ones teeth and swallows an x amount of toothpaste that that one should called poison control, so why would one be able to drink it? • 20. Game Theory Game theory descriptive, normative or prescriptive? Going through life we often are surprised by the different ways how people think, make decisions and interact. We believe that most of us are rational human beans (to some extent) and, therefore, our decisions should be grounded in analysis of the situation, our experience and intuition. Therefore, the human mind can be seen as an incredibly complicated machine that runs series of theoretical simulations of possible situations (often subconsciously) to find the most optimal course of action, taking into consideration the possible strategies of others. When the decisions are important to us and the reasoning process is conscious, we engage in strategic thinking. It has always been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Oxford English dictionary the definition of game theory is as follows the branch of mathematics concerned with the analysis of strategies for dealing with competitive situations where the outcome of a participant s choice of action depends critically on the actions of other participants. Game theory has been applied to contexts in war, business, and biology. From the definition we see the important factors are the mathematical analysis, different strategic options with different outcomes (pay offs) and the interdependence of the players. Therefore it indeed looks like the so desired theory described in the introduction of the essay, however, what does it actually deliver, that is the main focus of this essay. Modern game theory has been developing now for more than 50 years since the book Theory of Games and Economic Behavior by John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern was published in 1944. However, it must be noted that some important efforts in explaining the strategic choices strategic decision making has been done also before, for example by Zermelo. Konong, Kalmar and Borel. Game theory has evolved considerably since the publication of von Neuman and Morgenstern s book and what is interesting the theory has developed far beyond its initial mathematical boundaries. This is due in a large part to contributions in the 1950s from John Nash (1950, 1951). However, it was in the 1970s

Many of the men who worked during this decade of time were known as salarymen, who were the leading reason to why Japan remained one of the more dominate economies during that time. Life Of Pi Theme Essay Examples Theme Essay Life of Pi shows that humans and animals should do anything necessary to survive whatever challenges they face to live instead of just accepting death. Whatever ways that help one to survive are necessary, even if they compromise personal values, are vicious, or are wicked. Pi, a human; a hyena, and a blind man all fight to survive in a variety of ways that are examples of this thesis. Pi quits his vegetarian diet and also chooses to live on a raft next to a bengal tiger on a lifeboat, which are both unusual and unconventional choices for him. He satisfies his hunger by quitting being a vegetarian and eating fish. Pi knows that A lifetime of peaceful vegetarianism [stands] between [him] and the willful beheading of a fish (Martel 98). In other words, his body needs the fish because the beheading had to be done (Martel 98) in order to survive. It was at that moment that I realized this necessity...More likely the worst would happen: the simple passage of time, in which his animal toughness would easily outlast my human frailty (Martel 164). Since the events happened so long ago, there are many incomplete accounts of the events. Even these incomplete accounts are usually heavily biased. As such, it is a difficult undertaking for a historian to construct a cohesive summary of the period. Nevertheless, Marc Morris attempted the task, and did an admirable job. It is written as a narrative, but has enough detail to satisfy a student of history. Morris begins by exploring the history of one of the few sources that remain of the Norman invasion, the Bayeux tapestry. The tapestry has had a long history of trading hands and escaping harm seemingly miraculously. According to Morris, the Bayeux tapestry has survived looting in the French Revolution, was owned by Napoleon Bonaparte for a time, and was stolen by Nazis during their occupation of France in World War II. Aside from its own fascinating history, the tapestry itself is not a flawless source. Morris points out that it is in fact incomplete, as it abruptly stops at Harold Godwinsons death. It was also in part copied from older accounts of the invasion and therefore is not a primary source. It is also non committal in its portrayal of events and the captions are for the most part willfully obscure or ambiguous (p. 4). In other words, it seems intended more to be a narrative than as a factual historical record. Exact dates are often not given for important events, such as the

The long parade to the graveyard ) embodying in her personified monologue the imminence of death ( Why, the Grim Reaper had put up his tent on our doorstep! ). Further, this necrophobia and her guilt for Allan s suicide, elicited by the leitmotif Varsouviana provokes her deterioration into her fantasy as a substratum of her anguish, becoming the epitome of the Apollonian. The rape is such a powerful catalyst for Blanche s descent into madness, as she discerns the Apollonian consciousness of sexuality and darkness she has constructed is eerily indistinguishable from Stanley s Dionysian ecstatic realm. Ergo, she has no true escape in the rhetoric question how could I stay here with him, after last night, with just those curtains between us? Indigenous Cultures And Contemporary Realties IKC101 Indigenous Cultures, Histories and Contemporary Realties Assessment 2: Essay In what ways did Indigenous peoples resist the non Indigenous settlement of Australia in the frontier period and how did non Indigenous peoples retaliate? In your answer, discuss and analyse the initial and ongoing impact on Indigenous communities. Due: 23/09/2014 Phoebe Giles 11538928 During the Frontier period, Indigenous peoples resisted the non Indigenous settlement of Australia, throughout 1770 1890. During approximately throughout the 1890 s to 1970 s, the non Indigenous retaliations occurred, resulting in protection, segregation and the stolen generations. Which initiated an ongoing impact on Indigenous communities. There were many different ways in which Aboriginal people resisted the non indigenous settlement of Australia. In 1770, James Cook first landed in Botany Bay, which was the home of the Eora People, and claimed the East Coast for Britain. If the region were not already possessed by a rival, then a state might acquire it in one of three ways, by persuading the indigenous inhabitants to submit themselves to its overlordship; by purchasing from those inhabitants the right to settle part or parts of it; by unilateral possession, on the basis of first discovery and effective occupation (M. Borch 2001) . While Britain did not declare war, they did not adhere to any of these requirements and proceeded to obtain the land as though it were uninhabited. At the

  • 43. Simplicity By William Zinsser William Zinsser is an American writer who wrote an informational guide to writing. He made a decision to revise a specific chapter called Simplicity. In the year 1980, the first version of Simplicity was created, then came 1998 followed up by 2006. In the first version, 1980, Zinsser created a long and wordy paper. He used specific examples but included details that were unnecessary. This is ironic because the paper is about how writers can write unnecessary words and phrases creating complicated sentences. He was not inclusive of gender, naming men as writers and only using wives as examples of distraction. This draft had a complete count of 20 paragraphs. This makes sense, he used a more commonly used word to this time period making it readable to a younger generation of readers and writers. (Paragraph 2 2006) He took out on Christmas Eve or any other eve , this made sense because it was an extra unneeded detail. The sentence made complete sense just as what father or mother can put together a child s toy from the instructions on the box? . In paragraph 4 he changed what was originally the president of a major university in versions from 1980 and 98 to the president of my university in the 2006 version, making a personal connection with the reader. (Paragraph 8 2006) He completely redid the paragraph. In the 1980 and 1994 version, the 8th paragraph was completely unneeded and included a story that seemed unrelated to the topic of writing. It started as I love to be alone . The 2006 version of this paragraph wasn t completely off topic from the original. I still believe this paragraph isn t needed, even with the shortening. With the 2006 version he has taken out the he s and switched to they . This allows women to feel included, making it more likely for a female to enjoy the writing. It felt noninclusive in the first two versions. In the newest version (paragraph 10) he included devices relevant to that time period. Instead of saying he, he said a man or woman could be distracted by many forces

Ongoing stereotypes suggest that the rock band is a group of white musicians and the rapper would be black. However, examples from the past and present shows that these stereotypes are untrue. It gave them a feeling of freedom and joy that had been lacking from previous music styles. Although rock became an instant hit with the youth, the music caused displeasure in the adult world. Rock was criticized for juvenile delinquency to loosened sexual standards (R amp;RG, 27). The most notorious example of what adults didn t like in rock music can be found in Elvis Presley. Elvis was the first white performer to expose an audience to rock music. However, the free will style Elvis exhibited was not a real big hit with the adults, where he was condemned as a whirling dervish of sex. Rock music then went on a tear, evolving into many different styles and forms. As rock matured and diversified, many new artists and distinct styles emerged. Such examples are blues, featured by B.B. Rock usually evolved to what was happening in the world during that time period, such as war, politics, current events, and lifestyles. Another aspect that evolved rock music was technology. As more and more technology was developed, more integrated sounds were brought into rock, eventually resulting into such music as pop and disco. Music was now able to have artificial beats that traditional instruments could not produce. This new form of
  • 48. Adolf Hiltler Shows Good Can be Manipulated into Evil Is humanity inherently good or evil? I believe that humanity is inherently good and really does believe in doing good and helping. But I believe that if that good is put into the wrong hands or is treated the wrong way then that good can be manipulated into the evil that we find today in our world. The political figure that I have chosen to show how I express this belief is Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler was born on the 20th of April in the year 1889, in the small Austrian town of Braunau. Both of Hitlers parents came from very poor families, his father was the illegitimate son of a housemaid, Alois Hitler was a intelligent and ambitious man and was very much respected man at hitlers time. Alois was a senior customs official in lower Austria. Klara Polzl, hitlers mom, left her home at the age of sixteen to live with her cousin, Alois Hitler, in the house hold that the cousins lived in Alois started a sexual relationship with a house maid, Franziska Matzelberger. Franziska saw Klara as a potential rival who could get in the middle of her and Alois love and insisted that she leave household which she did. In 1882 Franziska gave birth to a son named Alois. When Anna Hitler(woman Alois first married) died in 1883, Alois then married Franziska and two months after the wedding Franziska gave birth to the second child, Angela. Soon after Franziska developed tuberculosis and Alois told Klara to come back to the house to care for his two children to relive the stress on

  • 50. Renin Angiotensin Aldosterone System Analysis Renin Angiotensin Aldosterone System (RAAS) is the system that regulates blood pressure in the body. When the body detects low blood pressure (low fluid/low salts), the liver releases angiotensinogen (Bayer pharma, 2015). The release of the angiotensinogen is the beginning of the signal transduction pathway (Bayer pharma, 2015). The angiotensinogen and renin react together to form angiotensin I, then angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) converts angiotensin I into angiotensin II (Bayer pharma, 2015). Angiotensin causes vasoconstriction in the bloodvessels, secretes the water retaining hormone vasopressin (AVP) from the pituitary gland, and also releases adrenaline, noradrenaline, and aldosterone from the adrenal gland (Bayer pharma, 2015). Overall blood pressure is most prominently regulated by the peptide angiotensin II. The angiotensin II controls vasoconstriction through the regulation of water and salt balance (Lopez 2003). A revolution is repudiation and the thorough replacement of an established government, social, or political system by the people governed (Merriam Webster). This indicates that the American Revolution was more of an evolution than a revolution. It was not a revolution because it did not completely revolutionize the government system, the social system, and it was more of a conquest for power than a revolution. The government system was not changed drastically and completely because the revolution before and after 1776 was self governed. Prior to the revolution, the American Colonies consisted of several self governing structures. The first miniature parliament was the House of Burgesses, which was the first assembly of settlers that formed a legislative. It could create laws and levy taxes, but ultimately was not centralized to all the colonies. After the revolution, Congress established the Articles of Confederation. According to the US Department of State, the Articles of Confederation served as the written document that established the functions of the national government of the United States. It established a weak central government that mostly, but not entirely, prevented the individual states from conducting their own foreign policy (Articles of Confederation, 1777 1781, 1). The Articles of Confederation was also not yet ratified in all 13 of the colonies. Similarly, both bodies were self governed and did not govern all of the colonies. The government system was not revolutionized because they were still democratically
