Mrs Parson In George Orwell
Victims of the society have historically always been women. George Orwell deeply explores
this idea by portraying the character of Mrs. Parsons, a woman in 1984, as sad, helpless and
oppressed. Orwell perfectly depicts the battle of being an intelligent woman in 1984 through
persona of Mrs. Parsons. Through her, he expresses the role of a housewife who is unconfident in
her actions, with no place for her opinion in. When Winston greets Mrs. Parsons, she is described
as, A colorless, crushed looking woman, with wispy hair and a lined face... (20). Mrs. Parsons is
only 30 years old, yet she looks a lot older. Her wispy hair and lined face is a clear symbol of
persecution and suppression. She has constantly been run down and degraded throughout her life....

Her personality is reflective of the years of emotional torture she has had to go through for being
a woman. Oh, comrade, she began in a dreary, whining sort of voice, I thought I heard you come
in. Do you think you could come across and have a look at our kitchen sink? It s got blocked up
and (20). Orwell utilizes the words dreary, whining sort of voice, to emphasize how oppressed
Mrs. Parsons is. Her state of dreariness and complaint is a result of her being aware that she is
being oppressed. Mrs. Parsons is an women with the gift of intelligence, which is lacking in the
proletariat group, and she knows her rights are being violated, but she just so happens to be a
victim. While the Parsons children play war games and target Winston with their toy gun, Mrs.
Parsons makes a remark which wavers off into mumbles. It s the children, said Mrs. Parsons,
casting a half apprehensive glance at the door. They haven t been out today. And of course (20).
Notice how Mrs. Parsons doesn t complete her sentence, because perhaps she is frightened of what
might come out of her mouth. Her life is dominated by her children, who could, at any given point,
report her to the

Ethics, The Solicitors Regulation Authority
Throughout the world ethical belief systems have been created amongst societies, organisations
and various professions. The largest built ethical systems exist amongst societies. To create and
be a part of civilised society individuals must choose to act in ways that further the common good
of one another. Aristotelian ethical philosophies state law is crucial in making citizens virtuous .
Laws of conduct used to govern society are formed by what is perceived as virtuous and just. Legal
professionals are not only governed by laws of the land but are morally and legally constrained by
a stringent code of ethics, known as the SolicitorsRegulation Authority. There are ten principles
that focus on 5 main core responsibilities a solicitor has with their client, business, regulator,
others, application, waivers and interpretations. A legal professional must have self regulation and
high ethical standards amongst its defining characterises. A breach of ethical conduct is when an
act of professional misconduct is committed by a lawyer who does something dishonourable to
him as a man and dishonourable in his professional RE G MAYOR COOKE (1889). To behave
with Integrity is the most sacred principle to emerge from the legal profession. Aristotle s book of
Nonomanchien Ethics suggests ethical virtue is concerned with feelings and actions it is necessary
to have the right feelings at the right time and for the right purpose . The simplicity of this
philosophy cannot be

Grob Mergers
Mergers are such a complex concept, which can bring about a variety of emotions. I remember
learning about the topic while pursuing my MBA. During that time, I reviewed companies that
had merged and their history. Some were horrible stories of people losing their jobs and a loss
of the mission of the company. I think that in most of these cases (the ones I learned about
through MBA) the merger was done out of fear. Their company was struggling to grow, had
financial issues, or policy were changing the way they needed to do business. Perhaps this was
why there were negative repercussions from the merger. I do realize that the merger of two or
more companies does not come in a nice clean package. However, Grobman does a nice job
reviewing how to begin a merger and the steps necessary for a merger. He reviews that each
participating board should adopt a resolution in favor of the general principle of merging, should
appoint a merger committee of board members and staff, use a outside experienced merger
consultant, and have meetings scheduled to discuss goals of the merger, whether it is feasible,
budgeting, laws, polices, and staff (Grobman, 2015, pg. 395). I think having a careful plan and
address these areas Grobman discusses can lead to a successful merger.... Show more content on

Disneyland Resort Paris
Disneyland Resort Paris: a development after understanding local cultures
The case Disneyland Resort Paris: Mickey Goes to Europe introduced readers to the development
of Disneyland Paris during fifteen years. Even though Disneyland Paris had a terrible start in 1994,
it had a great improvement and bright future in 2007. The reason for its failure and success is the
same: culture. Forgetting to respect local culture caused Disneyland to lose market and revenue in
Paris, while adjusting its operations with culture issues put Disneyland Paris in a successful position.

approach to reduce the lose caused by culture. * Redesign services to attract more customers.
Disney studio park and Val d Europe are two examples of services which capture more customers.
The former one tries its best to include European elements in it. The approach provides guests
something they were familiar with and attract more tourist to visit the Disneyland park. The latter
one created a center to draw customers attention and affected their travelling preferences. Both of
these two buildings were near Disneyland Paris and work as a transportation to connect the
European culture and Disney culture . Buildings with familiar elements will make guests feel
comfortable and reduce their unfriendly feelings to Disneyland Park. Therefore the park will get a
chance to cross the cultural boundary and bring its customers excellent experiences. * Improve

Journey s End by R.C. Sheriff Essay
Journey s End by R.C. Sheriff
R. C. Sherriff created characters that aid the audience s understanding of war through their
emotions and dialogue. Each character generates an intensive atmosphere and prompts differing
emotions and thoughts from the audience, expressing different feelings and reactions towards war,
which all aggregate to the same thing, the fear that they are all going to die sooner than later.
The play was written to make people contemplate the futility of war.
World war one was a war which lead hundreds of thousands of soldiers to their death. A road where
millions met their death, World War One truly was a Journey s End.

FIND QUOTE of Raleigh s speech Their dialogue rambles on as though they are older people
looking back on life. The time they have spent there feels like eternity, showing the boredom in
trench life because there is nothing to keep them occupied to make the time pass quicker.
The humour provides a light relief in what would be a tragic and horrific play. It allows a
balanced view of the war and shows the audience the stupidity and reality of war.
Although a tragedy, the play begins on a humorous note. Captain Hardy is drying a wet sock over
a candle, in the conversation he uses flippant humour making it the most amusing speech in the
play. Shot a rat...No. I shot the rat, you ass. (Act1 scene1 pg14) Hardy provides relief to an
intensive play and provides background information. Mason s humour is born of ignorance rather
than an attempt to be amusing. Unlike Hardy s humour, it is lifeless yet facetious, designed purely
to raise a laugh. Quite nice and lumpy It is necessary humour to relieve the tension created by
Stanhope and
Raleigh.
The audience becomes aware of the conditions of the trenches at the beginning of the play. Hardy
is drying a wet sock over a candle showing the trenches are cold, wet and damp. He tells the
audience that the beds have no bottoms in, resulting in lack of sleep leading to fatigue and
exhaustion. There is such a huge health risk due to poor, unsanitary conditions, that there is

The Pros And Cons Of The Acquisition Of Biological Weapons
Given the difficulties to acquire and develop of biological weapons, the DHS likely saw the
acquisition of the REBS as unnecessary. Obtaining a successful biological program is difficult as
seen with past attempts by governments. Both the United States and Russia were two of the best
equipped countries to develop such weaponry and devoted plentiful resources to their programs.
Even with the large influx money, both countries encountered difficult hurdles (Parachini, 2001). If
a terrorist organization were to obtain a biological weapon, the support of a state government
would be needed. The multiple barriers needed to acquire biological weapons coupled with
cheaper, more accessible options dissuades terrorists from perusing biological

Examples Of Realism In Hedda Gabler
Realism came about in literary works in the 19th century, and portrayed real life unlike the previous
Enlightenment and Romanticism movements prior. Writers and people were sick of the neat,
happy stories and endings that were written by the two previous movements, and those people
wanted something they could relate to. Because of this, Realistic writers wrote about the boring,
ordinary lives that regular folks led and did not sugar coat anything that occurred but was brutally
honest. In the words of Randall Craig, Realistic writers educate readers, not through humiliation,
but by familiarizing them with a re presented world and enabling them to discover the rules by
which it works and to apply them both to the fictional and extra fictional... Show more content on

Hedda has been interpreted as an unreal, as a defective woman, as vicious and manipulative in
nature, as a failed New Woman, or as a woman who is afraid of sex (Björklund 1). She also
could be seen as a woman who is afraid of sex or her own sexuality because homosexuality wasn t
accepted like it is today. According to Björklund, Hedda s masculinity defeats the dysfunctional
masculinities of Tesman and Lovborg, but, in the bathe with Brack s hegemonic masculinity,
Hedda s female masculinity becomes absorbed into the dominant structures. Hedda desires
masculinity as represented by Brack power and control but, in the end, that masculinity is what
kills her; she shoots herself with one of her father s pistols, and her masculinity is absorbed into
the patriarchy. Hedda s masculinity is rejected, but what it represents power and control is
mirrored by Brack, whose masculinity is reconstructed: he is the one cock of the walk (Björklund

A statistics available from the Department of Environment reveal that 95 per cent of the tannery
industries have been built in unplanned way at the congested places of Hazaribag during the last
fifty years. At present during the peak monsoon about 21 thousand and 600 cubic meters of liquid
toxic wastes are dumped daily into the river Buriganga from the 185 tannery industries of
Hazaribag. There is no alternative way to dump this liquid toxic waste at the time of continuous
production of tannery industries.
Unfortunately a recent observation of Hazaribagh clearly shows an active decay and destruction
primarily attributed to unplanned growth and poor maintenance. This area now appears no more
than an inner city unhygienic environment. Technical compatibility is necessary to improve the

Stephen Krashen s Theory Of Second Language Acquisition
This is the result of my observation based on those aspects:
1.Teacher s classroom management At that time, the condition of the classroom is noisy enough.
The girl students are more taciturn than the boy students. Most of the boy students are naughty, like
to disrupt other students, and less respect to the teacher. So, there are some ways which are done to
manage the class, they are:
a.Managing students to pay attention to the lesson The teacher tried to give attention by knocking
the whiteboard and said Students, please listen to me when the classroom became noisy.

The acquired system or acquisition is the product of a subconscious process very similar to the

Point Of View In Carver s What The Doctor Said
Due to the fact that this is a deeply personal subject, the use of first person is very fitting. From
verses 16 to 23, one can see the narrator making personal reflections that the reader is privy to
thanks to the first person narration. Even though they are not too explicit, one can see that this
news has forever changed him, and that this is why he is so ecstatic about the dreadful news.
Therefore, the first person point of view also serves to evidence the intimacy of the subject.
Finally, the use of the first person point of view in Carver s What the Doctor Said allows the writer
to express the lack of communication in modern society. Even though there is much communication
in the poem, suggested from the onset by the title, it is very

The Susan G. Komen Foundation Of Greater Atlanta
Literature Review The Susan G. Komen Foundation of Greater Atlanta s goal is to reduce mortality
of African American breast cancer by 25% in the next 5 years (Susan G. Komen Atlanta, 2017). In
order to reach this goal, Komen has created many local outreach programs to educate the
community about breast health and breast cancerscreening (Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta, 2017).
Educational programs like these can have significant impacts on breast cancer mortality rates
(Asuquo and Olajide, 2015). However, they may need to focus on certain racial, ethnic, or
socioeconomic groups (Herndon, et al., 2013). Worship in Pink is one of Komen s educational
outreach programs that provides breast health and screening information to participating religious
organizations (Susan G. Komen, 2017).
Breast Health Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in American women (Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). However, regular screening and mammograms can help
reduce the mortality rates of breast cancer patients (LaPorta, et al., 2017). Signs and symptoms of
breast cancer may include lumps, abnormal changes to the nipple, abnormal discharge from the
nipple, or change in color of the breast or part of the breast (Asuquo and Olajide, 2015). There are
many factors that can put women at risk of developing breast cancer, the two most common being
growing older and being female (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). Other risk

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Organizational Change Model
2.3 The Organizational Change
The organizational change is the movement of an organization away from its present state and

Introduction Of Prenatal Care For Teenagers
Introduction to Prenatal Care for Teenagers Even though the teen pregnancy and birth rates have
dropped by one third over the past decade, teen pregnancy in the United States is a growing
problem. According to data by the National Center for Health Statistics and other official data, one
in three girls still become pregnant by the age of twenty. In the United States one million
adolescent girls become pregnant every year causing the U.S. to be the leader of the developed
world in teen pregnancy. One in four of these teen girls will have a second baby within twenty
four months and in 2010, a survey showed that only one in ten of these unwed mothers, ages
fifteen to seventeen, received child support from the father. As citizens of the United States this is
a time when we all need to pull together and help to change the future before it is too late. Many
things can cause teen pregnancy but many things can prevent it or at least slow it down such as
sexual abuse, poor life circumstances, parents attitudes, drugs and alcohol use, and exploitation by
older men. Making good decisions and responsible choices about sexual activity during the teenage
years can have immediate and lasting implications for overall healthoutcomes. How teenagers make
decisions about relationships, abstaining or participating in sex, and protecting themselves and
others from sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy is influenced by numerous factors.

Abstract
Money has a huge impact on us as individuals, changing our behaviour and the way we view
others. In order to see how great of an effect money has a study was conducted involving
participants recruited from Psyc106 classes. Participants partook in an experiment requiring them
to complete a task which involved money priming. Half the students were exposed to words
associated with money while the other group were used as a control group, being exposed to
neutral words only. Following this task, participants were asked to complete a survey which would
help determine whether or not money priming had any effect on their way of thinking or behaviour.
The results found that money priming in fact had no effect on the person s behaviour, and any
variances were mainly due to the difference in opinions of males and females.
Effects of Money Activation on Level of Support for Government Goods and Services Programmes
and Privatization of Public Goods and Services
Does exposure to the concept of money have the ability to affect our views and opinions? In
today s society, money has an overwhelming control over human behaviour and quality of life. It
affects how we live, what we buy, and how we re viewed by other members of society. Studies

Vincent Van Gogh Response Paper
Vincent Van Gogh Response Paper Vincent Van Gogh is a very interesting artist that produced
several works of art in just the ten short years that he painted. I had a chance to study Van Gogh
in Art Appreciation. We watched a YouTube video in the fall 2015 semester of Art Appreciation
on the Rogers State University Claremore campus. Along with the video we watched was the
song Vincent also called Starry, Starry Night by singer Don Mclean. The slideshow was of
different pictures that Van Gogh had painted that seemed to match flawlessly with the words being
sang. I felt that most of the paintings as well as the slow music made the slideshow kind of
depressing. When really listening to the music, I heard lyrics like, weathered faces

Speech Cloud In Persepolis
Persepolis Twentieth century holds many enormous changes within all sections of life, graphic
novels as a branch of literature was a part of those changes. It employs visual and verbal
terminology to shape the story. One of the popular novels among graphic novels is Persepolis
which is about the story of the writer s childhood Marjane Satrapi. The narrative graphically and
textually tells about the events including removing Reza Shah from power and replacing him by
his son, ending western power over Iran, and fighting between Iran and Iraq which happened
during 1979 1988. Throughout these years Iranian people have gone through plenty of
fluctuations and changes which are analyzed in numerous ways by foreign people as in one of
her interview Marjane states that From the time I came to France in 1994, I was always telling
stories about life in Iran to my friends. We d see pieces about Iran on television, but they didn t
represent my experience at all. (Pantheon) Therefore, Marjane tries to explain the Iranian true
situation to everyone. Within her graphic novel,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

wrong with her, Marjane uses speech cloud, for he was talking normally. On the other hand, she
puts her answer into a scream cloud which implies that she is angrily screaming and telling god to
get out. In addition, she uses thought cloud, for example, on page 60, when her uncle tells her that
he was in prison for nine years, she immediately thinks about Laly s father. In this point, the writer

Fraud and Abuse in the U.S. Healthcare System
Running Head: Fraud and Abuse Fraud and Abuse in the U.S. Healthcare System Tenisha Howard

or misrepresentation made by a person with the knowledge that the deception could result in
unauthorized benefit to oneself or another person. It includes any act that constitutes fraud under

When it comes to patients, patients commit fraud and abuse insurers and subsidized federal
programs to obtain preventable services, payments, and medical procedures. Private insurers
play their role in fraud and abuse by subsidizing federal programs in order to dishonor medical

of fraud and abuse results in increased insurance premiums, taxes, and costs for medical
treatment. Literature Review Fraud and abuse in our healthcare system indicates a priority of
wealth over health, puts patients at risk, and hinders our national interest of quality care.
Medicaid and Medicare are especially vulnerable to fraud because eligible individuals may never
see their bill for services; it goes directly to a fiscal intermediary (for Medicare) or a designated
payer (for Medicaid), (Barton, 2007). In a report made by Jessica Zigmond, Aghaegbuna Ike

committed by very educated people, including businesspeople, hospitals, doctors and
administrators. It reaches across all ethnic and racial lines. He added that healthcare fraud often
preys on what he called an unsuspecting victim base of Medicare recipients: elderly citizens
looking for care and attention. The Priority Health Fraud amp; Abuse department is targeting

How Racism Caused By Colonization, Age, And Gender Have A...
In 1958 Martin Luther King Jr. was quoted saying Hate begets hate; violence begets violence .
Unfortunately for some, the violence and hate they receive begets violence and hate deep into
themselves. For the Inuit people of northern Canada, racism presented through colonial violence
and acculturation has caused a crippling affliction. The effect of this violence has manifested itself
into various other forms of viciousness; domestic violence, substance abuse, neglect and self harm
are only a few. The perpetuation of this malicious cycle has created an exponential rise in violence
against oneself. Additionally, the process of growing up and creating an identity is extremely
difficult. Whereas, developing into an adult when faced with violence is exceptionally harder.
Many young Inuitmales succumb to this hardship. In comparison to the general population,
adolescent Inuit males have a disproportionately high suiciderate. Through an intersectional
analysis, I will examine the how racism caused by colonization, age, and genderhave caused one of
the highest suicide rates in the world.
The act of committing suicide in Inuit communities has changed drastically. Previously, an ill or
elder person would take their lives. This would be considered dying with ancient dignity as a
response to the burden they may put on their families (Kral, 2013). There were very few recorded
suicides amongst Inuit youth before the 1980 s (Working Group, 2009). The figures began to rise

This means the business are highly motivated to link up with their IT counterparts. The fourth
perspective I would put companies like my own, CSC, where outsourcing of IT is the major
business activity and the company is entirely dependent on efficient IT services. To summarise in
the last three perspectives IS/IT is a essential component of the organisation and therefore
implementation of IT strategy controls the success of the company and therefore is closely linked
to the business strategy and thus implementation of strategy is a natural progression of formulation
of the strategy. In the Strategy Execution perspective greater business value is perhaps generated
in other ways than IT e.g. through products or services which are supported by IT solutions that
are general in the industry as in the case of transport companies. Ciborra s article starts off with the
challenging view that alignment of business and IT is dead or unnecessary but concludes finally
that it is necessary but introduces the terms care, hospitality and cultivation. His main argument
seems to be that strategic alignment appeared on the scene as a result of research initiated by IBM

alignment interest from IBM waned and their funding of the research ended. Subsequent research in
the area of alignment avoided using the word ali8gnment and from this Cibbora implies the research

The Pros And Cons Of President Grant
President Grant was the United stated 18th president. Many historians have spoken poorly about
him, calling him corrupt and ineffective. Even though many of those historians mention how he
was no good as a president, they never explain how and what he actually did to prove he was
corrupt and ineffective. Although historians such as Thomas A bailey, C.Van Woodward and Arthur
Schlesinger call him ignorant, the all time low point as well as placing him in the among the
failures, he was neither of them all he was doing is what any other presidentwould of done. He was
doing what was best for the country and those historians did not see it that way. Despite the fact
that many historians agree that he was corrupt and ineffective he was neither of them, he was
doing what was right for the country, for the people and he was just doing what every other
president has and would of done. Thomas A bailey said, Grant was an ignorant and confused
President, and his eight long years of blunderland are generally regarded as a national disgrace.
Clearly, Bailey was not looking at Grant s accomplishments in the economic arena when writing
this statement. C.Van Woodward described the years in which Grant was the president as the all
time low point in statesmanship and political morality in our history. Woodward must have
forgotten about how Grant held the country together after the Civil War. Not only that but Arthur
Schlesinger placed grant among the failures in his 1948 and 1962 presidential ratings.Historians
should judge people in the context of their times, not before nor after. All of these three historians
missjudged Grant, because they judged him by how president are now not how they used to
be.All that grant was doing was putting the people and the country first to help evolutionate
Historians such as Bailey and Woodward believed that president Grant was corrupt. The time that
Grant was in office he did as any other president would of done, and in this case he was not
responsible for the corruption which occurred during the years he was in office. The corruption
was caused the the liberal Republican spoils seekers that wanted patronage for their own political

Analysis Of The Book Fist Stick Knife Gun By Geoffrey...
Geoffrey Canada pens a book that is part biography, part social view, a very thoughtful look into
inner city violence and the rules surrounding it. The book describes how his personal history
with violence influenced his work with youth and the programs that he has started to support
them. Geoffrey Canada describes the progression of violence that had happened in his lifetime.
He also points out that there is a disturbing difference between what the streets were like in the
1960s compared to those of today. As great storyteller, Geoffrey Canada is thoroughly
convincing. His Book Fist Stick Knife Gun, is a great explanation of violence and poverty in
late 20th century here in America s inner cities. Of how he changed from a timid and frightened
child into a young man who could hold his own in a fight in the streets, is written in a believable
way. Canada actually learned the way of the streets because he grew up in the streets. All of his
experiences first started when he was a child when he and his friends used their fists to settle
disputes and to gain a reputation that would bring respect from the other kids in the
neighborhood. At times, those disputes would escalate with other weapons like a knife. Having
grown up in the South Bronx in the 1960s, Mr. Canada brings you to a time when violence was
ever present but guns were not. At that time there were a very few adult men in the neighborhood,
and the police were of very little assistance. Not even old enough

Training Managers to Motivate Employees
Abstract There are a variety of management styles in the field of training and development. With
there being so many styles, can training help managers adopt a more autonomy supportive
motivating style toward employees. Will the employees of these managers in turn show a greater
workplace engagement? Research shows managers that participate in training, have a more
significantly supportive managementstyle. This paper will discuss the managers motivating styles
and the benefits to employees when managers become more autonomy supportive.

Autonomous motivation is self authored and personally endorsed as one s own (Ryan Deci, 2000).
There are two types of autonomous motivation that are associated with employees functioning,
intrinsic motivation and identified regulation. Intrinsic motivation involves employees engaging in
an activity because they find it interesting and satisfying. They usually express this with comments
like, I enjoy what I do. The other type of autonomous motivation is identified regulation. This
involves identifying with the activity performed and the time spent seems important and worth the
effort. Most employees express identified regulation through comments as, The work I do is
important to me. Controlled motivation is that which is pressure based and imposed by forces (i.e.
people, rewards, deadlines) outside the person (Ryan Deci, 2000). A type of controlled motivation
is external regulation. This involves employees doing an activity because they expect to gain an
external contingency to do so. The motivation is externally controlled because the employees are
energized into to working by incentives and to avoid consequences. If the incentives are not present
and the consequences are absent, the employees are not motivated to do action. These people can
be often heard expressing themselves such as, I work because the boss is watching. Many managers
agree that motivation is important and that the quality of employees motivation is important,

Compare And Contrast The Natchez Tribes
The Natchez and Iroquois Native American peoples have some interesting correlation and
differences in their way of life. Their traditional descent groups, the membership of those descent
groups, and leadership positions all played a role in their political systems. The Natchez people
recognized a matriarchal descent group. They had a socio political system which included the
following in descending order, The Great Sun, Nobles, Honored Men, and Stinkards (commoners).
The system was different in the traditional hierarchical sense, in that the royal family were
obligated to marry in a lower social status, also that the only way to be a Great Sun was through

They were both matriarchal societies, and to be part of a group, you either had to be born into

sociopolitical system (matriarchal hierarchy). The descendant grouping factored into the political
system in that they were nearly indistinguishable. The Sun rank was the highest socially, as well
as politically, and held the most powerful political positions. The Nobles held secondary
positions, and the Honored Men held some small political positions. The Commoners did not
seem to have any political position. They all operated under their King, the Great Sun, thus
mirroring a hierarchy. The Iroquois peoples elected officials to focus on goodwill, peace, and
harmony. The Grand Council, of about 50 men, was selected by women and represented the
leading matrilineages. This shows that their political system was closely related to their descent
grouping in that all of the major groups had a say in their politics.. Their political system was very

Melba Character Analysis
Melba Pattillo and eight other African American students became soldiers on the battlefield of
equality at a young age. When entering Central High School, Melba had to become a warrior in
order to survive the school year. She had to be a warrior to fight for what she believed in and not
give up. Melba created a warrior inside herself to rise above the pressure and scrutiny from her
peers, community, and nation. She was a warrior of civil justice and equality for the future
generations of kids who only wanted a fair chance. Melba s mother told her, there s a price to be
paid for freedom; we pay it now or we re in ball and chain forever. (Pattillo. 104) To survive the
school year, Melba had to acquire various weapons to fight against the segregationists who
surrounded her. Those weapons included her words, her diary, her presence and her faith. After
Minnijean was expelled Melba s fellow students became more vicious trying to get the others
expelled also. One day Melba got eggs dumped on her head. Later when her grandmother helped
her get the egg out of her hair she told Melba, You could take charge of these mind games, you
know... Suppose you d have told the boys who did this, Thank you, with a smile. Then you ve
changed the rules of the game. What they want is for you to be unhappy. That s how they get
pleasure. (Pattillo.242) Melba takes her advice and is able to rise above her bullies for a short time.

Masculinity In Shakespeare s Time
Masculinity is not something given to you, but something you gain. And you gain it by winning
small battles with honor (Mailer, n.d). This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes
masculinity in a way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our
society today. Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and
ability to discover and examine all the possible meanings of masculinityby different scholars,
academics, peers and even through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we
choose to identify ourselves with. William Shakespeare is an extremely perceptive and suggestive
author who is rich in his writing. Although Shakespeare s writing is not solely a dialogue on
women s studies, it does nonetheless share and consists of issues in women s studies and gender
ideology. Not only does Shakespeare reflect, he occasionally supports the English Renaissance
stereotypes of men and women and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

attribute that exemplified masculinity was the Renaissance Beard. Sexual differences and
appearances in the early modern period have differed significantly in society s matters of these

made the man (Fisher, 2009). The array of male features and prosthetic body parts such as the
genitals can definitely distinguish the differences between male and female, however, in the
Renaissance period, something as simple as the growth of a beard will signify manhood. Therefore,
it is obvious that masculinity can be presented through a combination of

Different Types of Sensors and Their Applications
Capacitive Sensors
Capacitive sensors use an array capacitor plates to image the fingerprint. Skin is conductive
enough to provide a capacitive coupling with an individual capacitive element on the array.
Ridges, being closer to the detector, have a higher capacitance and valleys have a lower
capacitance. Some capacitive sensors apply a small voltage to the finger to enhance the signal and
create better image contrast.
Capacitive sensors can be sensitive to electrostatic discharge (shock) but they are insensitive to
ambient lighting and are more resist contamination issues than some optical designs.
Optical Sensors
Optical sensors use arrays of photodiode or phototransistor detectors to convert the energy in light
incident on the detector into electrical charge. The sensor package usually includes a light emitting
diode (LED) to illuminate the finger.
There are two detector types used by optical sensors, charge coupled devices (CCD) and CMOS
based optical imagers. CCD detectors are sensitive to low light levels and are capable of making
excellent grayscale pictures. However, CCD fabrication is relatively expensive and neither low
light sensitivity or grayscale imaging are required for fingerprint recognition. CMOS optical
imagers are manufactured in quantity and can be made with some of the image processing steps
built into the chip resulting in a lower cost.
Optical sensors for fingerprints may be affected by a number of real world factors such as stray
light and

The Systems Theory Paper
There are many theories of human behavior that are used in Social Work Practice. One of the
human behavior theories that best relates to my research topic is the systems theory. Ludwig Von
Bertalanffy was the first person to use the systems theory in 1949, but was not looked at by
social workers until the 1960 s (Rogers, 2013). The systems theory helps us view human behavior
through the results of active interactions between individuals and their social systems. Simply
meaning that this theory helps provide a broad look at the client s problems in his or her life. The
basic tenets of this theory are that in order to understand human behavior you must look at the
systems involved in the individual s life because the systems are the central idea behind this theory
(Rogers, 2013). Once you have established the systems involved in the person s life you will then
focus on each system individually and develop subsystems. All systems and subsystems will have
boundaries. These boundaries help establish the roles, rules and identity, as well as informing those
outside of the system/subsystem how open or closed the interaction, relationship is, etc. The
systems are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Genghis Khan And The Mongol Empire
Founded and ruled by Genghis Khan, the Mongol Empire, became known as the largest contiguous
empire in history because it s land stretched throughout Southeast Asia and to Eastern Europe.
Established in the 13th century in 1206 CE, the empire grew rapidly connecting most of Eurasia
establishing trade routes and passing ideologies through 14 million square miles. Genghis Khanwas
instrumental to the formation of the empire bringing the rest of the world under one sward . It was
Khan s genius mind and manners that persuaded tribes to unite and have total victorious power
when it came to war tactics. The Mongol invasions consisted of deadly battles and strategies used
to conquer most of Asia between 1200 1300 CE. Finally, it wasn t until the death of Khan that the
empire really took a turn and began expanding at an exponential rate. The Great Khan position was

Genghis Khan grew up in poverty. During these adolescent years, TemГјjin mastered the art of
personal courage in battle learning how to deal with people and building trust with his loyal allies
to get what he wanted. In contrast, he also learned that to improve one s position one must be

Abstract:
To what extent were African American slaves free after the abolition of slavery by the
Emancipation Proclamation in 1863? What challenges did they face after their emancipation?
This is a subject of continued interest. History is rife with records of decades of untold torture
and harrowing experiences. African American slaves suffered at the hands of their captors and
masters. They were denied all natural rights as human beings and forced to live like animals. A
slave was viewed as one third of a person and the property of their owner(s) and treated as objects,
mere things. One would therefore assume that after their emancipation, life would become

Being pregnant did not spare a slave woman the whip or rod. A hole was dug for her to rest her
belly while being whipped. They were also at constant risk of losing members of their families if
their owners decided to sell them for profit, punishment, or to pay debts. Slavery indeed was
dehumanizing in every sense of the word.
The Declaration of Emancipation was monumental, and came with the renewed sense of hope
that life after their emancipation would become significantly better. Being free, the former
slaves envisaged being able to live with a sense of purpose and pride in a land ripe with a
cornucopia of opportunities waiting to be capitalized on. Spirits were high and celebration took
place as ideas and fantasies of a rich lifestyle with a good standard of living were being

survival during slavery helped them develop the wits needed to succeed in their new found world.
Unfortunately, there were many tragic disappointments, as nearly all the slaves that were
emancipated were forced to return back to their old masters after leaving the plantations, starving
and diseased.[2] Many were not able to survive on their own. This came as a result of both internal
and external forces being somewhat trapped by their own helplessness, insecurities, lack of

  • 2. Mrs Parson In George Orwell Victims of the society have historically always been women. George Orwell deeply explores this idea by portraying the character of Mrs. Parsons, a woman in 1984, as sad, helpless and oppressed. Orwell perfectly depicts the battle of being an intelligent woman in 1984 through persona of Mrs. Parsons. Through her, he expresses the role of a housewife who is unconfident in her actions, with no place for her opinion in. When Winston greets Mrs. Parsons, she is described as, A colorless, crushed looking woman, with wispy hair and a lined face... (20). Mrs. Parsons is only 30 years old, yet she looks a lot older. Her wispy hair and lined face is a clear symbol of persecution and suppression. She has constantly been run down and degraded throughout her life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her personality is reflective of the years of emotional torture she has had to go through for being a woman. Oh, comrade, she began in a dreary, whining sort of voice, I thought I heard you come in. Do you think you could come across and have a look at our kitchen sink? It s got blocked up and (20). Orwell utilizes the words dreary, whining sort of voice, to emphasize how oppressed Mrs. Parsons is. Her state of dreariness and complaint is a result of her being aware that she is being oppressed. Mrs. Parsons is an women with the gift of intelligence, which is lacking in the proletariat group, and she knows her rights are being violated, but she just so happens to be a victim. While the Parsons children play war games and target Winston with their toy gun, Mrs. Parsons makes a remark which wavers off into mumbles. It s the children, said Mrs. Parsons, casting a half apprehensive glance at the door. They haven t been out today. And of course (20). Notice how Mrs. Parsons doesn t complete her sentence, because perhaps she is frightened of what might come out of her mouth. The largest built ethical systems exist amongst societies. To create and be a part of civilised society individuals must choose to act in ways that further the common good of one another. Aristotelian ethical philosophies state law is crucial in making citizens virtuous . Laws of conduct used to govern society are formed by what is perceived as virtuous and just. Legal professionals are not only governed by laws of the land but are morally and legally constrained by a stringent code of ethics, known as the SolicitorsRegulation Authority. There are ten principles that focus on 5 main core responsibilities a solicitor has with their client, business, regulator, others, application, waivers and interpretations. A legal professional must have self regulation and high ethical standards amongst its defining characterises. A breach of ethical conduct is when an act of professional misconduct is committed by a lawyer who does something dishonourable to him as a man and dishonourable in his professional RE G MAYOR COOKE (1889). • 4. Grob Mergers Mergers are such a complex concept, which can bring about a variety of emotions. I remember learning about the topic while pursuing my MBA. During that time, I reviewed companies that had merged and their history. Some were horrible stories of people losing their jobs and a loss of the mission of the company. I think that in most of these cases (the ones I learned about through MBA) the merger was done out of fear. Their company was struggling to grow, had financial issues, or policy were changing the way they needed to do business. Perhaps this was why there were negative repercussions from the merger. I do realize that the merger of two or more companies does not come in a nice clean package. However, Grobman does a nice job reviewing how to begin a merger and the steps necessary for a merger. He reviews that each participating board should adopt a resolution in favor of the general principle of merging, should appoint a merger committee of board members and staff, use a outside experienced merger consultant, and have meetings scheduled to discuss goals of the merger, whether it is feasible, budgeting, laws, polices, and staff (Grobman, 2015, pg. 395). I think having a careful plan and address these areas Grobman discusses can lead to a successful merger.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Disneyland Resort Paris Disneyland Resort Paris: a development after understanding local cultures The case Disneyland Resort Paris: Mickey Goes to Europe introduced readers to the development of Disneyland Paris during fifteen years. Even though Disneyland Paris had a terrible start in 1994, it had a great improvement and bright future in 2007. The reason for its failure and success is the same: culture. Forgetting to respect local culture caused Disneyland to lose market and revenue in Paris, while adjusting its operations with culture issues put Disneyland Paris in a successful position. The success of Disneyland in America As a cartoon company which was founded in 1923, Walt Disney Company started its business in America. During the period to develop its ... As a result, the effects of culture differences will have lower power to stop guests feel Disney s core value. * Reduce cost to increase net income under a condition of lower revenue of Disneyland Paris. The culture in Europe restricts the ability of Disney to absorb money form customers. Since it s hard to change the culture in Europe, a better choice is to adjust financial approach to reduce the lose caused by culture. * Redesign services to attract more customers. Disney studio park and Val d Europe are two examples of services which capture more customers. The former one tries its best to include European elements in it. The approach provides guests something they were familiar with and attract more tourist to visit the Disneyland park. The latter one created a center to draw customers attention and affected their travelling preferences. Both of these two buildings were near Disneyland Paris and work as a transportation to connect the European culture and Disney culture . Buildings with familiar elements will make guests feel comfortable and reduce their unfriendly feelings to Disneyland Park. Therefore the park will get a chance to cross the cultural boundary and bring its customers excellent experiences. * Improve services to bring visitors back. • 6. Journey s End by R.C. Sheriff Essay Journey s End by R.C. Sheriff R. C. Sherriff created characters that aid the audience s understanding of war through their emotions and dialogue. Each character generates an intensive atmosphere and prompts differing emotions and thoughts from the audience, expressing different feelings and reactions towards war, which all aggregate to the same thing, the fear that they are all going to die sooner than later. The play was written to make people contemplate the futility of war. World war one was a war which lead hundreds of thousands of soldiers to their death. A road where millions met their death, World War One truly was a Journey s End. The play shows how an economically and socially secure era was coming to an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... FIND QUOTE of Raleigh s speech Their dialogue rambles on as though they are older people looking back on life. The time they have spent there feels like eternity, showing the boredom in trench life because there is nothing to keep them occupied to make the time pass quicker. The humour provides a light relief in what would be a tragic and horrific play. It allows a balanced view of the war and shows the audience the stupidity and reality of war. Although a tragedy, the play begins on a humorous note. Captain Hardy is drying a wet sock over a candle, in the conversation he uses flippant humour making it the most amusing speech in the play. Shot a rat...No. I shot the rat, you ass. (Act1 scene1 pg14) Hardy provides relief to an intensive play and provides background information. Mason s humour is born of ignorance rather than an attempt to be amusing. Unlike Hardy s humour, it is lifeless yet facetious, designed purely to raise a laugh. Quite nice and lumpy It is necessary humour to relieve the tension created by Stanhope and Raleigh. The audience becomes aware of the conditions of the trenches at the beginning of the play. Hardy is drying a wet sock over a candle showing the trenches are cold, wet and damp. He tells the audience that the beds have no bottoms in, resulting in lack of sleep leading to fatigue and exhaustion. • 7. The Pros And Cons Of The Acquisition Of Biological Weapons Given the difficulties to acquire and develop of biological weapons, the DHS likely saw the acquisition of the REBS as unnecessary. Obtaining a successful biological program is difficult as seen with past attempts by governments. Both the United States and Russia were two of the best equipped countries to develop such weaponry and devoted plentiful resources to their programs. • 9. Examples Of Realism In Hedda Gabler Realism came about in literary works in the 19th century, and portrayed real life unlike the previous Enlightenment and Romanticism movements prior. Writers and people were sick of the neat, happy stories and endings that were written by the two previous movements, and those people wanted something they could relate to. Because of this, Realistic writers wrote about the boring, ordinary lives that regular folks led and did not sugar coat anything that occurred but was brutally honest. In the words of Randall Craig, Realistic writers educate readers, not through humiliation, but by familiarizing them with a re presented world and enabling them to discover the rules by which it works and to apply them both to the fictional and extra fictional... The effect of this violence has manifested itself into various other forms of viciousness; domestic violence, substance abuse, neglect and self harm are only a few. The perpetuation of this malicious cycle has created an exponential rise in violence against oneself. Additionally, the process of growing up and creating an identity is extremely difficult. Whereas, developing into an adult when faced with violence is exceptionally harder. Many young Inuitmales succumb to this hardship. In comparison to the general population, adolescent Inuit males have a disproportionately high suiciderate. C.Van Woodward described the years in which Grant was the president as the all time low point in statesmanship and political morality in our history. Woodward must have forgotten about how Grant held the country together after the Civil War. Not only that but Arthur Schlesinger placed grant among the failures in his 1948 and 1962 presidential ratings.Historians should judge people in the context of their times, not before nor after. All of these three historians missjudged Grant, because they judged him by how president are now not how they used to be.All that grant was doing was putting the people and the country first to help evolutionate Historians such as Bailey and Woodward believed that president Grant was corrupt. The time that Grant was in office he did as any other president would of done, and in this case he was not responsible for the corruption which occurred during the years he was in office. The corruption was caused the the liberal Republican spoils seekers that wanted patronage for their own political machines as well as for themselves. During the time ... • 30. Analysis Of The Book Fist Stick Knife Gun By Geoffrey... Geoffrey Canada pens a book that is part biography, part social view, a very thoughtful look into inner city violence and the rules surrounding it. The book describes how his personal history with violence influenced his work with youth and the programs that he has started to support them. Geoffrey Canada describes the progression of violence that had happened in his lifetime. He also points out that there is a disturbing difference between what the streets were like in the 1960s compared to those of today. As great storyteller, Geoffrey Canada is thoroughly convincing. His Book Fist Stick Knife Gun, is a great explanation of violence and poverty in late 20th century here in America s inner cities. Of how he changed from a timid and frightened child into a young man who could hold his own in a fight in the streets, is written in a believable way. Canada actually learned the way of the streets because he grew up in the streets. All of his experiences first started when he was a child when he and his friends used their fists to settle disputes and to gain a reputation that would bring respect from the other kids in the neighborhood. At times, those disputes would escalate with other weapons like a knife. Having grown up in the South Bronx in the 1960s, Mr. Canada brings you to a time when violence was ever present but guns were not. At that time there were a very few adult men in the neighborhood, and the police were of very little assistance. Not even old enough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being a lifetime member of the first sorority for African American women has sparked my interest since childhood. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority means to me services provided by now all ethnicities for women to impact the community in a positive manner. The services since the beginning in 1908 have been immaculate. Many AKA s were helping during the Great Depression, Civil Rights Movement, and today are helping with Black Lives Matter. Being a potential member of this prestigious organization for a lifetime I believe will be able to make a difference on Cheyney Universitycampus and surrounding areas. At Cheyney University I am a member of Iconic Modeling and Dance group. With the modeling group, we perform around Pennsylvania at other colleges, and on Cheyney University s campus several times a year. This is the first group I joined my freshman year. Being from Upper Marlboro, Maryland and going to a college out of state was difficult for me to fit in. I began to see flyers for a modeling group and I immediately tried out. • 32. Training Managers to Motivate Employees Abstract There are a variety of management styles in the field of training and development. With there being so many styles, can training help managers adopt a more autonomy supportive motivating style toward employees. Will the employees of these managers in turn show a greater workplace engagement? Research shows managers that participate in training, have a more significantly supportive managementstyle. This paper will discuss the managers motivating styles and the benefits to employees when managers become more autonomy supportive. One of the most challenging parts of a manager s job is the managerial effort to support employees motivation. A key determinant of how effectively a manager nurtures and supports employees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Autonomous motivation is self authored and personally endorsed as one s own (Ryan Deci, 2000). There are two types of autonomous motivation that are associated with employees functioning, intrinsic motivation and identified regulation. Intrinsic motivation involves employees engaging in an activity because they find it interesting and satisfying. They usually express this with comments like, I enjoy what I do. The other type of autonomous motivation is identified regulation. This involves identifying with the activity performed and the time spent seems important and worth the effort. Most employees express identified regulation through comments as, The work I do is important to me. Controlled motivation is that which is pressure based and imposed by forces (i.e. people, rewards, deadlines) outside the person (Ryan Deci, 2000). A type of controlled motivation is external regulation. This involves employees doing an activity because they expect to gain an external contingency to do so. The motivation is externally controlled because the employees are energized into to working by incentives and to avoid consequences. If the incentives are not present and the consequences are absent, the employees are not motivated to do action. These people can be often heard expressing themselves such as, I work because the boss is watching. Many managers agree that motivation is important and that the quality of employees motivation is important, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Compare And Contrast The Natchez Tribes The Natchez and Iroquois Native American peoples have some interesting correlation and differences in their way of life. Their traditional descent groups, the membership of those descent groups, and leadership positions all played a role in their political systems. The Natchez people recognized a matriarchal descent group. They had a socio political system which included the following in descending order, The Great Sun, Nobles, Honored Men, and Stinkards (commoners). The system was different in the traditional hierarchical sense, in that the royal family were obligated to marry in a lower social status, also that the only way to be a Great Sun was through the matrilineal line. They were both matriarchal societies, and to be part of a group, you either had to be born into it, or marry into it. In contrast, the Natchez peoples operated as a hierarchy, and the Iroquois peoples operated more as a democracy. The Natchez people s political system was a sociopolitical system (matriarchal hierarchy). The descendant grouping factored into the political system in that they were nearly indistinguishable. The Sun rank was the highest socially, as well as politically, and held the most powerful political positions. The Nobles held secondary positions, and the Honored Men held some small political positions. The Commoners did not seem to have any political position. They all operated under their King, the Great Sun, thus mirroring a hierarchy. The Iroquois peoples elected officials to focus on goodwill, peace, and harmony. The Grand Council, of about 50 men, was selected by women and represented the leading matrilineages. This shows that their political system was closely related to their descent grouping in that all of the major groups had a say in their politics.. Their political system was very close to being a ... • 34. Melba Character Analysis Melba Pattillo and eight other African American students became soldiers on the battlefield of equality at a young age. When entering Central High School, Melba had to become a warrior in order to survive the school year. She had to be a warrior to fight for what she believed in and not give up. Melba created a warrior inside herself to rise above the pressure and scrutiny from her peers, community, and nation. She was a warrior of civil justice and equality for the future generations of kids who only wanted a fair chance. Melba s mother told her, there s a price to be paid for freedom; we pay it now or we re in ball and chain forever. (Pattillo. 104) To survive the school year, Melba had to acquire various weapons to fight against the segregationists who surrounded her. Those weapons included her words, her diary, her presence and her faith. After Minnijean was expelled Melba s fellow students became more vicious trying to get the others expelled also. One day Melba got eggs dumped on her head. Later when her grandmother helped her get the egg out of her hair she told Melba, You could take charge of these mind games, you know... Suppose you d have told the boys who did this, Thank you, with a smile. Then you ve changed the rules of the game. What they want is for you to be unhappy. That s how they get pleasure. • 35. Masculinity In Shakespeare s Time Masculinity is not something given to you, but something you gain. And you gain it by winning small battles with honor (Mailer, n.d). This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes masculinity in a way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our society today. Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and ability to discover and examine all the possible meanings of masculinityby different scholars, academics, peers and even through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we choose to identify ourselves with. William Shakespeare is an extremely perceptive and suggestive author who is rich in his writing. Although Shakespeare s writing is not solely a dialogue on women s studies, it does nonetheless share and consists of issues in women s studies and gender ideology. Not only does Shakespeare reflect, he occasionally supports the English Renaissance stereotypes of men and women and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sexual differences and appearances in the early modern period have differed significantly in society s matters of these distinctions today. The array of male features and prosthetic body parts such as the genitals can definitely distinguish the differences between male and female, however, in the Renaissance period, something as simple as the growth of a beard will signify manhood. • 36. Different Types of Sensors and Their Applications Capacitive Sensors Capacitive sensors use an array capacitor plates to image the fingerprint. Skin is conductive enough to provide a capacitive coupling with an individual capacitive element on the array. Ridges, being closer to the detector, have a higher capacitance and valleys have a lower capacitance. Some capacitive sensors apply a small voltage to the finger to enhance the signal and create better image contrast. Capacitive sensors can be sensitive to electrostatic discharge (shock) but they are insensitive to ambient lighting and are more resist contamination issues than some optical designs. Optical Sensors Optical sensors use arrays of photodiode or phototransistor detectors to convert the energy in light incident on the detector into electrical charge. The sensor package usually includes a light emitting diode (LED) to illuminate the finger. There are two detector types used by optical sensors, charge coupled devices (CCD) and CMOS based optical imagers. CCD detectors are sensitive to low light levels and are capable of making excellent grayscale pictures. However, CCD fabrication is relatively expensive and neither low light sensitivity or grayscale imaging are required for fingerprint recognition. CMOS optical imagers are manufactured in quantity and can be made with some of the image processing steps built into the chip resulting in a lower cost. Optical sensors for fingerprints may be affected by a number of real world factors such as stray light and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Systems Theory Paper There are many theories of human behavior that are used in Social Work Practice. One of the human behavior theories that best relates to my research topic is the systems theory. Ludwig Von Bertalanffy was the first person to use the systems theory in 1949, but was not looked at by social workers until the 1960 s (Rogers, 2013). The systems theory helps us view human behavior through the results of active interactions between individuals and their social systems. Simply meaning that this theory helps provide a broad look at the client s problems in his or her life. The basic tenets of this theory are that in order to understand human behavior you must look at the systems involved in the individual s life because the systems are the central idea behind this theory (Rogers, 2013). Once you have established the systems involved in the person s life you will then focus on each system individually and develop subsystems. All systems and subsystems will have boundaries. These boundaries help establish the roles, rules and identity, as well as informing those outside of the system/subsystem how open or closed the interaction, relationship is, etc. The systems are... • 41. To What Extent Were African-American Slaves в ЂњFree” After... Abstract: To what extent were African American slaves free after the abolition of slavery by the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863? What challenges did they face after their emancipation? This is a subject of continued interest. History is rife with records of decades of untold torture and harrowing experiences. African American slaves suffered at the hands of their captors and masters. They were denied all natural rights as human beings and forced to live like animals. A slave was viewed as one third of a person and the property of their owner(s) and treated as objects, mere things. One would therefore assume that after their emancipation, life would become significantly better because the slaves were free to move away from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being pregnant did not spare a slave woman the whip or rod. A hole was dug for her to rest her belly while being whipped. They were also at constant risk of losing members of their families if their owners decided to sell them for profit, punishment, or to pay debts. Slavery indeed was dehumanizing in every sense of the word. The Declaration of Emancipation was monumental, and came with the renewed sense of hope that life after their emancipation would become significantly better. Being free, the former slaves envisaged being able to live with a sense of purpose and pride in a land ripe with a cornucopia of opportunities waiting to be capitalized on. Spirits were high and celebration took place as ideas and fantasies of a rich lifestyle with a good standard of living were being formulated.[1] For some ex slaves, their dreams became somewhat of a reality as their fight for survival during slavery helped them develop the wits needed to succeed in their new found world. Unfortunately, there were many tragic disappointments, as nearly all the slaves that were emancipated were forced to return back to their old masters after leaving the plantations, starving and diseased.[2] Many were not able to survive on their own. This came as a result of both internal and external forces being somewhat trapped by their own helplessness, insecurities, lack of knowledge[3] and still viewed as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
