An Essay Describing A Person
Crafting an essay that delves into the intricacies of describing a person may initially appear to be
a straightforward task. However, the challenge lies not in the simplicity of the subject matter but
in the depth and nuance required to truly capture the essence of an individual. The endeavor to
encapsulate someone's character, personality, and impact on your life within the confines of an
essay demands a delicate balance between objectivity and personal connection.
To begin with, selecting the right person to focus on is a critical decision. Is it a family member,
a friend, a historical figure, or perhaps even oneself? Each choice brings its own set of
challenges. For instance, describing a close friend may lead to the temptation of veering into
overly sentimental territory, while tackling a historical figure might require extensive research to
ensure accuracy.
Once the subject is chosen, the challenge deepens as you grapple with the task of conveying the
person's essence through words. Language becomes both your ally and your adversary. It's a
tool that can vividly paint a portrait, but it also has its limitations. The risk of falling into
clichГ©s or resorting to generic adjectives looms large, potentially diluting the uniqueness of the
person you are trying to depict.
Moreover, the structure of the essay is crucial. Should you opt for a chronological account of the
person's life, a thematic approach highlighting key aspects, or a more abstract exploration of
their impact on your own life? Each choice brings its own set of challenges, and finding the right
balance requires careful consideration.
Additionally, the challenge extends to striking the right tone. Balancing objectivity with personal
insight, avoiding exaggeration without underselling the person's significance – these are
delicate tightropes to navigate. The challenge is not just in presenting the facts but in weaving
them together seamlessly to create a cohesive and engaging narrative.
In conclusion, while the topic of describing a person might seem straightforward at first glance,
the process of doing so presents a myriad of challenges. From the initial selection of the subject
to the intricacies of language, structure, and tone, the journey to produce a compelling essay
requires careful thought and skillful execution.
And for those seeking assistance in navigating these challenges, it's worth noting that similar

James Clark s Article, Without Evidence Or Argument
In Kelly James Clark s Article Without Evidence or Argument , Clark argues that
belief in God, does not require the support of evidence or argument in order for it to
be rational. Clark s argument is against W.K. Clifford s article The Ethics of Belief ,
in which Clifford claims that everything must be believed only on the basis of
sufficient evidence (139). Throughout Kelly Clark s article he states many things that
support his conclusion of beliefwithout evidence or argument, however, my paper
will only discuss what Clark says on p.139 starting with the paragraph The first
problem with Clifford s... and the following paragraph, ending with the words ...to see
why.
Clark begins his article by giving examples of situation that align ... Show more

In Clifford s universal demand for evidence he states that you base all of your
beliefs on evidence (138). Clark utilizes this premise to restate the argument in
which he will eventually will give reasoning to why the claim is false. In the
article he foreshadows the problem with Clifford s demand for evidence by saying,
No one would disagree: some beliefs require evidence for their rational acceptability.
But all beliefs in every circumstance? (139) Clark is somewhat supporting the
demand for evidence. However, he does not find it rational to believe that evidence is
required in every situation.
This leads us to our next premise, premise II, which states there are rational beliefs
that are not supported by sufficient evidence. Clark identifies these rational beliefs
as those acquired through sensory experience and beliefs that are self evident. He
supports this premise by giving examples of some of these beliefs ..The sky is blue,
grass is green .. (139). He goes on to say, ...every proposition is either true or false..
(139). I think that by Clark including these examples of beliefs through sensory
experiences and self evidence, he seems to be saying that through our experiences,
one can acquire beliefs even if our beliefs are false. It is rational to believe that the
sky is blue because it is a belief we acquire through seeing the sky is blue. But
according to Clark, seeing that the sky is blue is not enough sufficient evidence (like

Dead Sea Scrolls Sparknotes
The Dead Sea Scrolls were written in three languages of Scripture. According to an
an online article written by Ed Stetzer titled, A Closer Look: The Significance of the
Dead Sea Scrolls, of the 941 scrolls that were found in the Qumran caves, 240 are
biblical scrolls and 701 are non biblical scrolls. Of the 240 biblical scrolls, 235 are
written in Hebrew, 5 in Greek and of the 701 non biblical scrolls, 548 are written in
Hebrew, 137 in Aramaic and 5 in Greek. Flint says, this means that at least some Jews
could speak Greek in late Second Temple Palestine, and reinforces the idea that Jesus
and His followers knew Greek. Prior to the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the
oldest complete copy of the Hebrew Biblewas the Leningrad Codex. Stetzer
highlights a point that none of the Qumran scrolls was written by or for Christians,
but several are relevant for understanding the historical context of Christian origins.
He goes on to say, the three books most commonly found at Qumran are Psalms (36
scrolls), Deuteronomy (30), and Isaiah (21). This is hardly a coincidence, but speaks
to similar messianic expectations and covenantal themes among the Qumranites and
the early Christians. Stetzer concludes his argument of the importance of The Dead
Sea Scrolls by stating, the Dead Sea Scrolls help scholars get closer to the original
Old Testamenttexts where variants have entered the tradition, plus they help set the
historical and cultural context for the Intertestamental and

Options for Implementing Intrusion Detection Systems Signature based IDS
These IDS possess an attacked description that can be matched to sensed attack
manifestations. It catches the intrusions in terms of the characteristics of known
attacks or system vulnerabilities. This IDS analyzes information it gathers and
compares it to a database of known attacks, which are identified by their individual
signatures. The rules are pre defined. It is also known as misuse detection. The
drawbacks of this IDS is that they are unable to detect novel or unknown attacks,
Suffer from false alarm and have to programmed again for every new pattern to be

normal state of network or host. Any activity outside baseline is considered to be
an attack i.e. it detects any action that significantly deviates from the normal
behavior. The primary strength is its ability to recognize novel attacks. The
drawback is that it assumes that intrusions will be accompanied by manifestations
that are sufficiently unusual so as to permit detection. These generate many false
alarms as well and hence compromise the effectiveness of the IDS. Network based
IDS This IDS looks for attack signatures in network traffic via a promiscuous
interface. It analyzes all passing traffic. A filter is usually applied to determine
which traffic will be discarded or passed on to an attack recognition module. This
helps to filter out known un malicious

Summary Of Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl
Introduction Incidents in the life of a slave girl written by Harriet Jacobs and
published by L.Maria Child (in 1831), is an autobiography by the author herself
which documents Jacobs life as a slave and therefore The book starts when Jacobs
is born as a slave in a city of North Carolina and then continues through her escape,
her status as a runaway fugitive in the North, and finally her path to freedom when
one of her northern white friends buys her in the year 1852. Incidents in the Life of

from the society. While writing the story of her life, Jacobs mainly focused on her
defeat due to obstacles like race and gender, gave voice to something which was
hidden from society regardless of the presence of patriarchal society of the
nineteenth century. I do earnestly desire to arouse the women of the North to a

Henry David Thoreau Rhetorical Devices
How do historical figures use rhetoric techniques in their writing? I believe that they
use Aristotle s ethos, logos, and pathos of the rhetorical triangle. Two very important
people that have used these tools of persuasion were Henry David Thoreau and
Martin Luther King Jr . Both of these historical figures use the rhetorical triangle for
different uses and reactions. Thoreau s rhetoric is calling for resistance, and King s
rhetoric is calling for empathy and ending ignorance of race supremacy. Henry David
Thoreaus Civil Disobedienceis persuading because of his authoritative language,
political opinions, and an outreach to his readers. Martin Luther King Jr s Letter
from Birmingham Jail is also persuading with his use of an analytical language,
repetition, and criticisms. Not only are the authors using the same techniques, but
also using them differently for their desired result. Thoreau s authoritative
language is apparent throughout his writing. He writes as though he is reaching
out to his audience, for example: Must the citizen ever for a moment, or in the
least degree, resign his conscience to the legislator? Why has every man a
conscience then? (para. 4). I believe his rhetorical use of logos is effective here. He
is not only asking the reader, but also asking a rhetorical question to the reader as
well. Thoreau s use of sarcasm goes along with his authoritative language within
his rhetorical question. Everyone has their own right to think, and he is telling us
that was won t be able to use our conscience if the government can control our
thoughts. King s analytical language is very effective in his letter. He refers back to
biblical references to analyze those events and compare them to his present. In his
third paragraph, he tells his readers that he is where he is at because of injustice , and
refers to a story about Paul, a disciple of Jesus Christ, and says, Apostle Paul left his
village of Tarsus and carried the gospel of Jesus Christ to the far corners of the Greco
Roman world, and so am I compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my
home town (para. 3). Why does King repeatedly refer back to his biblical references?
WE know that he was a preacher, so he can relate to these

How Does Richard Parker Use Fear In Life Of Pi
Fueled by Fear
Fighting for Dominance with a bengal tiger is not how Pi Patel thought his trip to
Canada was going to go. Fear is a common enemy in modern day literature because
fear is one of the most animalistic impulses of humans. Yann Martel describes fear
being the fuel to survival through the irony of fear being motivational and
personification of fear as a person in Life of Pi.
Pi is in an ironic situation when it comes to Richard Parker and his own survival.
Pi speaks of Richard Parker saving his life several times in the book, It is the irony
of this story that the one who scared me witless to start with was the very same
who brought me peace, purpose, I dare say even wholeness. (Martel 162). It is
quite an interesting situation that the beast that could maul him at any moment is
the thing that keeps him alive. Pi also admits how this tiger aids in his survival, It
is the plain truth: without Richard Parker, I would not be alive to tell you my story
(Martel 164). Richard Parker gives Pi something to do while he s alone for this long.
As he needs to stay alive and make sure Richard ... Show more content on

Mentioned previously, fear can also be compared to fuel. Pi discusses how fear
targets weakness when he says, It (fear) is a clever, treacherous adversary[...]It
goes for your weakest spot[...]It begins in your mind, always (Martel 56). The
brain is separated into two main sides. The left brain is objective, logical, cold,
analytical, aware of patterns and trends, and efficient. The right brain is subjective,
creative, sensory, aware of feelings and people, and emotional. Often times the
logic side and the sensory side argue ,so to speak, when trying to make a decision.
Pi has this typical issue of not knowing which to follow when he says, Could he
burst through the tarpaulin, I wondered? Fear and reason fought over the answer
(Martel 41). Fear is a lot easier to understand if thought about it in the context of

There are numerous accounts of actions by Roosevelt and his top armed forces
advisors, which reveal they were not only aware of an attack by Japan, but also they
were planning on it, and instigating that attack.
Roosevelt had wanted to enter the war for a long time. He believed Hitler would
not declare war on the United States unless he thought they were beatable. Also, the
United States public opinion was against going to war due to the stable and
booming economy. Most of American society before the Pearl Harbor attack also
believed in the idea of isolationism. Americans didn t want to get into the European
war if they didn t have to. The only way in which Roosevelt could obtain support
from the American people to enter the war was that a member of the Axis Power
needed to make the first move. In other words, the Americans would need something
to revenge from.
To get the Japanese to attack, Roosevelt would need to provoke Japan. Lieutenant
Commander Arthur H. McCollum provided him with a detailed, eight step procedure
for making Japan to make the first overt move into war. The United States government
made an arrangement with Britain for the use of British bases in the Pacific,
particularly Singapore. They cooperated with Holland for the use of base facilities
in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). They would give all possible aid to the

Jim Crow Laws
The Jim Crow era was one of struggle not only for the victims of violence,
discrimination, and poverty, but by those who worked to challenge (or promote)
segregation in the South ( Jim Crow Stories ). It is important to know the history of
this significant period where everyone was treated differently based on how they
looked instead of their character. During the Jim Crow era, the lives of African
Americans were severely restricted making it difficult for them to succeed in
everyday life.
After the Civil War, most Southern and Border States deprived the basic rights of
African Americans. Jim Crow was a fictitious character created by a white
entertainer to ridicule African Americans. The laws were made in an attempt to
keep African Americans away from whites after slavery ended ( Examples of Jim
Crow ). The Jim Crow laws affected education, health care, and social events.
From Delaware to California, and from North Dakota to Texas, many states (and
cities, too) could impose legal punishments on people for consorting with members
of another race ( Jim Crow Laws ). These punishments could be brutal or sometimes
fatal. Education was and still is a very important aspect in life, but Jim Crow laws
made receiving an equal education an impossible task. Education: The schools for
white children and the schools for Negro children shall be conducted separately
Florida ( Jim Crow Laws ). Although both races did receive an education, they were
not equal. Schools for white
A Reflection On My Participation In The Sociology Class
Reflection on My Participation What is participation? was the big question that we
had to answer in our very first essay in the sociology class. My first thoughts were,
Oh, participation basically means being engaged through talking and actions , but as I
gathered information to compose the essay and thought more deeply about the whole
concept, I was brought to a different light on what participationreally means. I
applied the new knowledge I gained and put all of my efforts into being an active
student in the class. As I reflect on the grade I feel I most deserve is a 3.1 out of 4
because I exert my best efforts to participate, but there are some components in my
performance that I know I need to improve and strengthen to make my participation
be the best in its abilities.
Since the beginning of the term, I have consistently been an active participant in the
classroom as well as outside of the classroom. My participation in class involves me
being mentally and physically engaged with the material such as the lectures,
discussions, activities and readings. With the lectures and discussions, I use my
listening skills to try to understand the concepts that we are learning in class as well
as listen to student questions and discussions that elaborate the topic or provide new
insights. I also take notes of the lecture to help me soak in the knowledge a little bit
better. I have also been engaged in the activities that were used to help us aprehend

Romanticism And Realism In Twain s The Adventures Of
Tom...
Twain s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer satirizes the quixotism of individuals,
expressive of the American people s pragmatic mentality toward life during the wake
of the Realism movement of the nineteenth century. Following the Civil War, which
ended in 1865, the Realism movement prompted artists to depict an accurate portrayal
of society, which at the time, was in a state of havoc. In fact, it was a reaction to the
Romantic movement that preceded it, which emphasized the importance of
imagination. Twain s intentional narrative voice in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
enhances the novel by exposing and mocking the fraudulent nature of individuals,
derived from the unrealistic expectations that are most commonly influenced by
Romantic ideals. In fact, the term quixotism derives from Miguel de Cervantes
Saavedra s Don Quixotewhere the principle figure dreams up an ideal world where he
is the hero. Twain s characterizations reflect these views by depicting flaws such as
the extreme focus on one s influence to the rest of society, reminiscent of the
Romantic maxims of importance of oneself and individuality. In addition, Twain s
satirical and blunt tone further enhance the novel by expressing the dissatisfaction
with institutions, such as the Church. Lastly, he shows an impertinent attitude toward
death, an object often glorified in romantic literature. As mentioned before, Twain s
aims his most prominent critiques in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer at religion. By

Social Class in the United States Essay
There is much debate about the issue of social class in the United States. There are
arguments about whether social classes are distinctly separate or fluid, dependent
upon one s community or society as a whole, and if they are subjective or objective
(Hughes and Jenkins). However, despite the debate surrounding social classes, it is
still important to try to define them and analyze their effects, as they are such an
important part of our identity and our opportunities in society. Although our society
has tried to appear as though we have no classes, and it is becoming harder to tell
what class someone is in by material goods, classes do still exist today (Scott and
Leonhardt). The trend has been to divide the U.S. into four major... Show more

Despite the debates about social class, the United States is usually described as
having four major social classes, the elite or upperclass, the middle class, the working
class, and the lower class (Goldscmidt). Classes are generally differentiated by
income, education, and occupation although other factors do have an effect. The
upperclass consists of about 1% of the population making 750,000 dollars or more
a year as investors, top executives, or heirs to large fortunes (Hughes and Jenkins).
There tends to be no question about who is in the upperclass as they are pretty
clearly isolated in their power and wealth. The middle class makes up about 40%
of the population making anywhere from 40,000 to 749,999 dollars a year
(Hughes and Jenkins). The large disparity in income and wealth have led to a
further division of this class into upper middle class and middle class in some circles.
The middle class usually work white collar jobs as professionals and managers,
however some highly skilled blue collar workers are included. Those in the middle
class have usually obtained higher education degrees and place a high value on
individual responsibility for one s class (Goldschmidt). The working class is
composed of about 50% of the population earning 13,000 to 39,000 dollars a year
(Hughes and Jenkins). Some also divide this class into a working class and a

Social Disadvantages Of Indigenous Australian Students
Furthermore, it has been established that the continuousness of social disadvantage
(Dobia O Rourke, 2011, p.5) for Indigenous Australian students, can act as a barrier
to learning (AIHW, 2014, p.4). Students may become disengaged (AIHW, 2014, p.6)
from a combination of various social factors, and may develop mental health
disorders, resulting in these students avoiding or performing poorly in school. The
ways that Indigenous Australian students are affected by social disadvantages (Dobia
O Rourke, 2011, p.5) vary, however, research suggests that they continue to include a
combination of major contributing stress factors such as low parental income, low
educationattendance, cultural differences (Commonwealth of Australia, 2007), and, a
high degree of chronic health conditions in the family (Telethon Kids Institute, 2006,
p.38). Purdie and Buckley (2010) propose that the lack of recognition by schools of
Indigenous culture and history, the failure to fully engage parents and the
community, and, the ongoing disadvantage in many areas of the daily lives of
Indigenous Australians(p.3), has continued to act as a consequence in the classroom
for Indigenous Australian students. This has resulted in the continued decrease of
educational outcomes for Indigenous Australian students.
Standardized Test Score
Throughout high school, students strive to do their best so they can go to the college
of their dreams. They excel, and are straight A students with perfect GPA s, several
extracurricular activities, and many leadership positions. These students appear to be
the perfect choice for any university. Unfortunately, there might be one element that
separates these students from his or her dream schoolstandardized testscores. This one
testscore could be the difference between attending an Ivy League school or an
average level school. In most cases, the best way to succeed on these tests is with
the help of expensive practice books or a tutor. However, many students cannot

The reason for this is the desire to get into a great college so they can have a bright
future. Countless hours of studying and time doing school activities are some of
the prices that must be paid, but in the end, it will all be worth it. Or will it? All
those years of hard work could become almost meaningless with just one simple
test score. All Ivy League schools require and average ACT score of at least 32 for
an applicant to even be looked at with care. Although every other aspect of the
students application may be perfect, if the ACT score is not up to par, then
acceptance into a prestigious university is highly unlikely. Throughout America, the
opposition to standardized tests is increasing due to the negative effects they are
having on bright young students. These tests are taking these students years of hard

The Rising Concern Within The Public Health Sector
1.0 Preamble Despite being a large global epidemic, Obesity remains to be one of
the most challenging and neglected health issues within society (Glenny et al. 1997).
In 2008 the Australian Government spent $58 billion on direct healthcare and
obesity related management, and this value continues to rise exponentially(Agency
2014). This profound impact on population health has made it a rising concern
within the public health sector. With trends predicting that by 2025 80% of all
Australians will suffer from obesity, leaving future generations to experience
shorter life expectancies when they reach twenty years of age(University 2013).
This rise in morbidity is largely reflected by changes within society, with
urbanisation and global marketing promoting unhealthy lifestyles and discouraging
physical activity(Alexander Baur 2007). Changes in marketing and food supply has
led to readily available and cheap alternatives to home cooked meals whilst, changes
to occupations have replaced active environments with sedentary deskbound jobs
(Glenny et al. 1997). Furthermore, challenges in the global economy has led to
increased areas of social disadvantage, with a study by the Australian National
Preventive Health Agency in 2005 showing socially disadvantage communities were
twice at risk of obesity related disease than low disadvantaged living areas (ANPHA,
2014). Lack of education, availability of greenspace, rurality and ethnicity were
further considered to effect obesity

Descent From The Cross Analysis
Group 1, Question A
Catalina s masculine behaviors in her autobiography demonstrates how gender was
socially constructed in both Europe and America during the colonial era. One
scene in particular is, Meanwhile, some boys noticed me and surrounded me until,
annoyed, I picked up some rocks and injured one of them (I don t know where
because I didn t see) They arrested me and kept me in jail for one long month until
he healed and they released me, with a little money remaining after my expenses (2).
In this scene she stands her own ground against a group of men with violence rather
than submitting to them or running away. Women during this era were not
expected to defend themselves or fight back. That is more acceptable action for
men to perform. Her violent behavior put her in jail not because she is unjust for
defending herself, but because she struck a man and it was not socially acceptable
for a woman to do so. During this era women were not scene to act violently or hit
men because it was not a norm or an action women for women to do.

The Emotional And Behavioral Effects Of Bullying
I.Speech Overview:
A.General Goal: To persuade to create, change or reinforce attitudes, values, beliefs
and/or behaviors.
B.Specific Goal: By the end of my speech, my audience will understand the emotional
and behavioral effects of bullying. And the damaging consequences that follow.
Including strategies to help cope and preventative measures.
II.Introduction: (This is where you start talking)
A.Attention Grabber: Have you ever been told you re too fat or ugly. How about
you talk or look funny. Have people spread lies or rumors about you. Maybe pushed
or even tripped. All these things are a different forms of bullying.
B.Relevance Statement: The National Center for Education Statistics states 1 out of
every 4 students is being bullied. And bullied victims are 7 to 9 times more likely to
consider committing suicide and 36 percent keep quiet about being bullied. The
victims can be your sibling, cousin, or your neighbor.
C.Credibility Statement: I have spent the last three days researching the effects and
the many forms of bulling. But having been at the receiving end for only speaking
Spanish in my younger years and for wearing hand me downs. I can honestly say it
leaves a lasting scar of emotional anguish and at times insecurities.
D.Propositional Statement: Because bullying is a never ending problem, and now
with new technology it s given birth to a new form of cyber bullying the problem

Nelson Mandela Imperialism
Nelson Mandela was conceived on July 18, 1918, in the small town of Mvezo in
South Africa. In the wake of going to class in his local nation, he also went to
College of London before coming back to South Africa and beginning a law firm.
Around this time, Mandela joined the African National Congress. Mandela was well
known and regarded everywhere throughout the world as an image of the battle
against politically sanctioned, racial segregation, and all types of prejudice. He truly
was the symbol and the saint of African freedom.
After his discharge from jail in 1990, Mandela recovered his authority part in the

Characterisation And Symbolism In Hamlet
William Shakespeare s metaphysical tragedy Hamlet, explores the complexities of the
human condition, in a world shaped heavily by tensions triggered by Medieval and
Renaissance paradigms. Shakespeare s masterful use of language, content and
construction serves to reflect enduring values through Hamlet s struggle in
distinguishing truth from illusion, and his navigation of the moral complexities of
revenge and human mortality. Despite changing interpretations of the play,
Shakespeare s characterisation and symbolism of Hamletas an existentialist hero
engages the play s textual integrity, fuelling its transcendence of contextual
boundaries and continual relevance with modern audiences.
Through Hamlet, Shakespeare expresses the epistemological doubt our realities are
built upon by exploring the duality of human behaviour in a pursuit for total truth.
Hamlet s antithetical questioning of the Ghost as either a spirit of health or goblin
damned evinces ambiguity within Hamlet, with the imagery foul, strange and
unnatural reiterating the dramatic tension evoked by the warlike Ghost. The use of
the ghost as a plot device coupled with the epanalepsis Seems, madam? Nay it is, I
know not seems cautions the fallibility of the Ghost in its possibility of unveiling
some foul play . Through the dichotomous epizeuxis One may smile, and smile, and
be a villain and his fretful diction all is not well , Hamlet contests the veracity of
mankind, catalyzing his misogyny towards Ophelia as evinced through the hendiadys
Th expectancy and rose of the fair state which highlights the splitting duality at the
heart of human nature. This is reinforced by the juxtaposed portrayal of the lines
most beautified Ophelia and Get thee to a nunnery , exemplifying Hamlet s deceitful
means of relationship as a manipulative front. Marcellus s synecdoche something is
rotten in the state of Denmark substantiates the corruption infecting Denmark state,
drawing upon the motif of decay as attested by Hamlet s metaphor an unweeded
garden that grows to seed. Things rank and gross . Hamlet s employment of The
Mousetrap , the mise en abyme, ultimately heightens the frailty of truth, sparking
fallacious notions as he attempts to
Demography s Classic Transition Theory
Demography s classic transition theory furthers the modernization narrative that is
central to this argument. The theory presents a three phase timeline to explain the
reproductive history of all nations. Countries begin in the pre transition phase where
high mortality and high birth rates create slow populationgrowth, which is
considered a traditional society. The second phase is the transition where slowing
mortality rates and high birth rates produce raid population growth. During this stage
birth rate should begin to fall if the country is actively attempting to become a
modern society. In the final stage low birth rates and low mortality rates bring the
population growth back to a slow or stagnant pace, which is a modern society... Show

In contrast, the understanding of factors such as gender to be social constructed and
uniquely situated in cultural contexts enables the political economy theory to explain
how reproduction is constructed differently across time and space. Moreover, the
anthropological foundation of the political economy theory forces such theories to
account for the standard of living in its understanding of positive reproductive
scenarios. A greater understanding of these theories divergent nature occurs when
viewing reproductive systems under both lenses. One reproductive behavior that
appears radically different when compared under both theories is the system of
Birth Spacing in the Congo. Nacy Rose Hunt presents this practice in her article, Le
Bebe en Brousse : European women, African Birth Spacing and Colonial
Intervention in Breast Feeding in the Belgian Congo. Birth spacing was a cultural
practice where women abstained from sexual intercourse for two or three years
while they were breast feeding (Hunt 1988: 404). This practice aided maternal and
infant health and was widely practiced before colonial domination (Hunt 1988: 401).
However, the practice lessened under colonial occupation and created an increase in
population growth. Under the political economy framework the effect of colonialism
and its pro natalist values best explains the

Marie Curie Essay
Marie Curie, or rather Marya Sklodowska, was born in Warsaw on
November 7, 1867. At the time, the Polish capital was occupied by the
Russians, who were seeking to weaken the local elite . Based on the value of
experience and scientific reality, and applied to society, it was for many
intellectuals the path of progress, it was to leave an indelible mark on Marya. Born
into a family of teachers and brought up in an environment marked by a sense of
duty and a lack of money, she led the most remarkable life. From the premature death
of one of her sisters, and later of her mother, she drew the agnosticism that would
later increase her faith in science. As a brilliant and mature student with a rare gift of

Henri Becquerel, who was studying X rays, had recently observed that uranium salt
left an impression on a photographic plate in spite of its protective envelope. And so
his frail wife set about her work, handling tons of minerals she noted that another
substance, thorium, was quot;radioactive quot;, a term she herself had coined.
Together, they demonstrated in a major discovery that radioactivity was not the result
of a chemical reaction but a property of the element or, more specifically, of the atom.
Marie then studied pitchblende, a uranic mineral in which she measured a much more
intense activity than is present in uranium alone. She found that there were other
substances besides uranium that were very radioactive, such as polonium and radium,
which she discovered in 1898.
Pierre tested radium on his skin. It caused a burn, and then a wound. Its effect on
man was proven. Soon radium was being used to treat malign tumors, Chemotherapy

Nobel Prize for Physics for their discovery of natural radioactivity. Their happiness

She took charge of educating her two children; she took up the position which her

Synthesis Essay On Monument Construction
In the modern world, monuments serve as a museum of art in town square, a mirror
to the past. A Glimpse in which Chrisopher Colombus stands stoicly, in riverside
park, easton pennsilvanya( Source B). A stone reminder, of those who served our
country, and those who were lost in terrorist attacks and national tradgedies. These
monuments do not simply appear however. They require a large group of people
using a large variety of materials and combined knodlege to create something
amazing. But what all must a group consider when producing a new monument?
When constructing a monument, a group or agency should consider How the
monument will be constructed, design and location, relevance to its location, and the
desired effect, without being misplaced to popular belief. When constructing a
monument, Design and location must be considered first. When it is decided to

where many american lives were lost, and it is located at the spot where most souls
perished. Therefore, this monument has a direct tie to its location and is completely

Revlon V. Mcandrews And Forbes
Revlon v. McAndrews Forbes: Less than a year later, the Delaware Supreme Court
circumscribed directors freedom of action by holding in this case that, once a sale is
in progress, the director s duty switches from protection or maintenance of the
corporate enterprise to obtaining the highest price for the benefit of the shareholders.
In other words, once directors understand that the takeoverwill be successful, their
duty is simply to obtain the best price for the shareholders.
The first precedents of the Delaware Supreme Court show that the standards were
reluctant to the permissiveness in adopting defensive measures. Rather, the courts
preferred the passivity of the board. However, 4 years later the standards changed
when the Court relaxed the reins that had been tightened in Unocal and Revlon.
Paramount Inc. v. Time Inc.: The court gave more leeway to directors in deciding on
defensive measures, even after it was inevitable that the target would be sold. The
court held that directors of target could consider factors other than money values of
the offers, including the amount of information available to shareholders, the
conditions attached to the offers, and the timing. These factors might justify
defensive measures. These defenses were called just say no defenses . They refer to
the ability of directors to simply reject takeovers for the purpose of protecting the
constituencies of the company.

American Industry Strikes the Country
With remarkable new advancements in American Industry, it transformed the
country and its people. While many business leaders thrived off the success of their
companies, many did not realize the loathsome treatment many of their workers

for themselves and their families but did little to assist those who were suffering.
John D. Rockefeller and other affluent individuals are just a few examples of people
who were vain and refused to recognize the cry for help that many workers
desperately needed. The ignorance of these arrogant business leaders led to the

Therefore, he convinced himself that helping the poor was not his problem and that
the people should be held accountable for their failures and struggles in life. Other
profitable business leaders that made little to no effort to assist those in need
included J. Pierpont Morgan, who turned Andrew Carnegie s steel corporation into a
booming industry. Many of these successful entrepreneurs were self centered and
believed in the idea of Social Darwinism in which only the strongest individuals can
thrive in the marketplace.
These pompous tycoons ignored the people who needed them most which led to the
formation of numerous unions. William H. Sylvis founded the National Labor Union,
which unified other labor organizations to fight against the harsh working conditions
that men, women, and children faced. Factory laborers worked long hours and days.
They were also forced to work in dangerous and unhealthy factories that caused
frequent industrial accidents. Along with the National Labor Union, the Knights of
Labor was another organization that worked towards improving the workforce for
others. The Knights of Labor was created by Uriah S. Stephens and strived to
improve the economy. Instead of having a wage system, supporters of this union
hoped to establish a cooperative system that would allow workers to have more
control in the economy. As seen through these two labor organizations, workers had
no one else to defend them. They had to

Argumentative Essay On The Iraq War
The Iraq War started in 2003. The war was a protracted armed conflict that began
with the invasion of Iraq by a coalition led by the United states. This ultimately led to
overthrowing Saddam Hussein s government.
The political, economic, and social reasons that led to the war.
Iraq has been the concentration of the universal group and has been included
unmistakably in the media as of late, as the radical Islamist assemble known as the
Islamic State in Iraq and Syria has significantly expanded its energy and impact in
the area in the last half of 2014. The political turmoil and definitely crumbled security
condition, which describes present day Iraq, can be followed back to the United States
intrusion of that nation and ISIS, which has as of late developed in Iraq and Syria,
in the revolt against the resultant US occupation, in those days as al Qaeda in Iraq.
In any case, for what reason did the US attack and involve Iraq anyway? Today,
there is a troublesome civil argument about what the Bush organization s intentions
were, with the probably clarification being a blend of the majority of the reasons
advertised. What should likewise be considered is that the occasions paving the way
to the 2003 attack just go most of the way to clarify why the US propelled this
crusade, and keeping in mind the end goal to comprehend the intricate and
multidimensional components adding to the Bush organization s choice to attack
Iraq, one must backpedal further and look at pre 9/11 US
Conception Of Self
In Ken Russell s Altered States and Aldous Huxley s Doors of Perception, both
protagonists embark on journeys fueled by psychoactive drugs in which they are
confronted with the notion of Self. In Doors of Perception, Aldous Huxley consumes
mescaline believing that he will be permitted to experience the mindset of visionaries
but, instead, his heightened state transforms his concept of the Self. In Altered States,
the protagonist Eddie Jessup, portrayed by William Hurt, ingests a mixture of amanita
muscaria, a hallucinogenic mushroom, in an attempt to penetrate the atoms of the
mind, which he believes to hold the memory of conception of consciousness.
Although both protagonists alter their beliefs of Self, there are many similarities, as
well as differences, between their psychoactive drug induced pursuit of Self.
In Doors of Perception, Aldous Huxley s notion of the self develops during a quest to
understand the inner mindset of visionaries and mystics. Along his mescaline
induced journey, Aldous Huxley has a revelation that the Self inhibits one from
experiencing the Divine because its presence anchors one in a state of ego driven
perception. Aldous Huxley used philosophies from Buddhism and Hinduism to
express the theory that the Divine, or Infinite, is a state of nothingness, which one
cannot experience if there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Inconsistencies In The Synoptic Gospels
The synoptic Gospels are similar in many ways, yet are also immensely different.
Many of the same stories are told in all three of the synoptic gospels, including the
conspiracy about Jesus, and the preparation for Passover. However, some of the
stories are only in one or two gospels. One of these stories is the anointing at Bethany,
which is only found in Matthew and Mark. Inconsistencies in the synoptic gospels
make the gospels different, however, other things are unique about each. Each gospel

Disadvantages Of Obscenity
Various statutes have provisions that touch upon the concept of Obscenity. But,
attention here is primarily placed on the provisions of the Indian Penal Code as
other statutes also depend on the Code to give content to the word obscene . The
principal provisions of law concerning the criminalization of publication and
circulation of materials with obscene content are Sections 292 294 of the Indian
Penal Code of 1860. Section 292 punishes the publication and dissemination of
materials that are obscene and section 293 provides for an enhanced punishment for
distribution of obscene materials to persons who are below 20 years of age. Both
these provisions were substantially amended in the year 1925, in pursuance to India s
participation in the International Convention for Suppression of Traffic in Obscene...

Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 borrows the definition of
obscenity from section 292 of the Penal Code to punish the spreading of obscene
materials over the internet. It is worth to take note of the fact that S. 98 of the then
Code of Criminal Procedure was also amended to empower a magistrate to enter and
search premises with a warrant and take possession of obscene materials. It was only
after the passing of the Obscene Publications Act in England in 1959 (and perhaps
owing to unsatisfactory and the widely criticized judgment in Lady Chatterly
Lover‟s Case13) that the legislature saw a need for reform. Thus, a select
committee was appointed under the chairmanship of Akbar Ali Khan in 1963, the
recommendations made by the committee resulted in the passing of Act 36 of 1969,
which brought about several significant changes in the provision. The 1969
amendments sought to bring clarity on the concept of obscenity.

House Altar with Akhenaten, Nefertiti and Three Daughters
The art of the ancient Egyptians is known for how consistent it remained for
thousands of years. The Amarna period is significant because it was a brief shift from
that consistency under the Pharaoh Amenhotep IV, (who later changed his named to
Akhenaten) his Queen, Nefertiti and later, Tutankhamen. They began worshipping the

strict registers, walls were cluttered with images. (Giuliano). An example of this
stylistic turn is the House Altar with Akhenaten, Nefertiti and Three Daughters.
The house altar is a piece that was carved into limestone during the Amarna period of
the 18th dynasty around 1350 BC. It would have been similar to the altars found in
homes that the royal couples subjects could worship. That altar features the royal
couple and three of their daughters in a domestic setting. Akhenaten and Nefertiti are
depicted as the only ones with access to the god Aten, characterized by a sun disk
with a cobra engraved in it. The family scene is also warmer and intimate than those
that came before it, (Lorenz) which is marked by the parents holding their children

The children also appear disproportionate and are depicted as miniature compared
to their parents, which was very atypical from the traditional approach where
bodies were perfectly balanced. Another example of this type of style is the famous
Nefertiti bust, which also shows the elongated head and crown. Conversely, on a
sandstone block from Theban tomb 55 of Ramose has an example of Amenhotep IV
s image in the style of his father s reign, where his features are not distorted and are
much more traditional ( Images of Amenhotep IV 89), which is in contrast to how he
is depicted in the Amarna
The Significance Of Nature In Charlotte BrontпїЅ s Jane
Eyre
The Significance Of Nature In Jane Eyre
I agree with Jennifer D. Fuller s article, Seeking Wild Eyre: Victorian Attitudes
Towards Landscape and the Environment in Charlotte BrontГ« s Jane Eyre, in that
nature in Jane Eyre is described as an escape for Jane from her harsh reality, yet also
as a representation of the constant restraints that she has, both physically and
emotionally. The use of gardens throughout the book also shows Victorian views of
nature.
In Jane Eyre, Jane constantly seeks books to escape the indoor torment caused by
her family on days that she must remain inside due to poor weather. When she is
trapped inside by bad weather and unable to go outside, Jane seeks privacy by
seeking . . . images of natural landscape in her book, Bewick s History of British
Birds. Yet even in the pages of fiction, nature appears cold and forlorn. (Fuller 153).
Even In the book she reads, Jane is drawn to the . . . shores of Lapland, Siberia,
Spitzbergen, Nova Zembla, Iceland, Greenland, (BrontГ« 7). Jane is drawn to
places full of icy, dreary weather as opposed to places that seem warmer and
comforting. This shows that Jane does not view the cold and undesirable
landscapes as a reflection of her inner affliction, but instead as an inspiring and
moving exhibitions (Fuller 153). The inability to leave Gateshead at this point in
Jane s life forces her to be inspired by the nature in books she reads, as she has little
exposure to the outside world. As Jane imagines a new

The iPhone was an instant hit among the consumers and 525,000 iPhones were sold
during the first weekend following its launch (BBC News, 2007). Steve Job was
proven right as some 50% of iPhone purchasers replaced another phone, 24%
replaced a Motorola RAZR, 14% replaced a Windows mobile device and 20%
replaced a BlackBerry or Palm (Mohr, Sengupta Slater, 2004)
The iPhone was introduced in two versions, 8 GB and 4 GB model. The 8 GB
model was priced $ 599 while the 4 GB iPhone was worth $ 499. The iPhone buyer
also got a two year contract with AT T costing $59.99 per month (minimum). The 4
GB model of iPhone was discontinued while the price of the 8 GB model was cut
down by $ 200 (to $ 399) in September 2007, barely two months after its initial
launch. Consumers who had bought the product were dissatisfied at this price cut
within such a short period of time. Steve Jobs took notice of the growing indignation
and in an open letter to all customers, announced a $100 store credit to all iPhone
customers not receiving any rebates etc.
On 11 June 2008, Apple launched iPhone 3G. Apple indulged in a series of price

Apple released yet another new and speedier version of its Smartphone called iPhone
3 GS. Prices of the new iPhone 3GS were set at $199 for 16GB
Elder Scrolls
The Elder Scrolls series are some of the best game series of all time in my opinion,
and that includes the soundtracks as well. I have enjoyed the Elder Scrolls for a
very long time, starting with Elder Scrolls 2 Daggerfall and have continued to play
them all the way through the new series Legends. The games have such a great
way of immersing you into the world that they are trying to portray in any given
time. One of my personal favorite moments was from the ESV whenever you are
finished fighting the first dragon and you absorb its soul in order to gain its power
through your dragon blood. Not only does it make for a very epic moment, the
musical score reflects the gravity of the situation and the importance that your life as
the dragon born will have.
Whenever you pop the game into the console (or open it digitally in my case), you
are greeted to one of my favorite themes from any adventure game. I often found
myself waiting until the song dragonborn had played to press the menu button in
order to continue on. The score gets you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the game you must choose a side, either imperial or stormcloak, and the
imperial music cues are a lot better than the stormcloak ones. As you are
adventuring around the world you will come into contact with many different
characters, animals, areas, and enemies. Often times whenever you enter a new
area or pick a fight you a group of enemies you are greeted with an all too familiar
track that can get very tiresome throughout your playthough. I hoped that the game
composers could have come up with more variation in the fighting instances of the
game. So even though this game has many incredible tracks, it does have its
downfalls, and the area at which it does fall is a very big one, and in this case, I do
not agree with the saying that you cannot get enough of a good
Theme Of Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird
A Persistent Issue In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, injustice is a chronic
theme. A lack of fairness or unfair judgement defines the term injustice. The theme
itself has different forms as well; legal injustice and social injustice are the primary
forms of injustice found in Lee s tale. It is an underlying theme throughout the
story that affects each of the characters and the course of their lives. It is also a
topic that existed as part of everyday life in the time period in which the book is
set. This may have been the reason why this book was written in this time period,
when injustice was conventional and more acceptable than in today s age. Injustice
is rampant throughout the book and takes the form of the social injustice in the
school, the social injustice in the town, and the legal injustice in the trial of Tom
Robinson. One of the first times that the reader observes social injustice in the book
is the way in which the school of Maycomb County operates. Various distinct
examples of this social injustice in the school can be found throughout the book, but
a main example is when Scout s teacher persistently held her back in school. Atticus
and Calpurnia educated Scout to read and write, but the school required her to learn
at the much slower pace of the rest of the class instead of encouraging further
learning. Another example is when the students judged Walter Cunningham and
Burris Ewell falsely based on their last names or family traits. You re shamin
The Five Dilemmas Of Social Norms
Norms are prescriptions for accepted or expected behaviors. This week s
assignment was to violate one of the five norms listed, or to choose your own as
long as it did not cause harm to you or others. Below I will be describing my
journey of trying to violate a social norm in a public setting, how I felt, the reactions
people had towards me, and the barriers that kept me from choosing different
options. Since I did not want to have to create my own social normto violate, I had
five options to pick from. The social norm I chose to try to violate this week was
number two: position yourself six inches from an acquaintance s nose during a
conversation. The reason I chose this social norm to violate was because I thought
it sounded like the easiest or least embarrassing choice. Other options required me
to stand up in front of many people which is not enjoyable. Another reason I chose
this one was because some of the options could not really be applied to my life. For
example, I do not use public transportation nor do I use any elevators on campus.
So, one night I was eating dinner with my roommate and cousin in the dinner center.
My cousin usually sits next to me and my roommate usually sits across from me
when we are eating. I thought to myself this would be a perfect situation for me to
try to violate my social norm. Now, my cousin and I have not been super close in the
past. We recently have become better acquainted since he also attends UNI. Even

The Ship Of The Cargo
The vessel was traveling outside normal shipping lanes in an attempt to avoid ice.
Within six hours of the grounding, the Exxon Valdez spilled approximately 10.9
million gallons of its 53 million gallon cargo of Prudhoe Bay crude oil. The article
states that the vessel encounter icebergs in the shipping lanes caused the decision
of leaving the shipping lanes. However, it is unknown why the orders of returning
to the shipping lanes at a certain point where not followed. However, five probable
causes have been established for the reasons of the spill. One, the third mate failed
to maneuver the vessel correctly, possibly due to fatigue and excessive workload.
Second, the master did not provide a proper navigation watch, possibly due to... Show

From using, a different method to determine the speed at which the oil spill ran I
also found that the oil did not migrate linearly from the spill site in terms of
distance as a function of time. I concluded that there was a non linearity between
day 19 and day 38. This non linearity could be caused by the change in the current
movement in the Gulf of Alaska. Part 3 Design and Methodology: For finding how
fast, the oil moves down the Gulf of Alaska I first found a quick and imprecise rate
of 8.39 miles/day by dividing 470 miles by 56 days. I knew this was not an exact
number, but it gave me somewhere to start. I then turn to excel to find a more
precise rate. I used the days as my y axis and the miles the oil migrated as my x
axis. From creating a graph, I was able to find from the regression equation that the
oil moves at a rate of 7.69 miles/day. The non linearity that I found in the data
shows that the gap happens between day 19 and day 28. In this gap, I found that
the oil spill slowed down to about 1.58 miles/day. I calculated the regression of the
first gap from day 4 to day 19 and found that the oil spill moved at a rate of 13.09
miles/day. Then I did the same for the upper half of the break and found that the oil
spill runs 10.55 miles/day from day 38 to day 56. Seeing these calculations proved
to me the non linearity of the migration of the oil. Part 4 Results and Findings: From
my calculations, I found that the oil moved
The Story of the Winchesters
When Sam Winchester was just merely a few months old, and his brother Dean
Winchester was only four years old, their mother, Mary Winchester, was killed. Her
husband, John, saw blood dripping onto Sam s cradle, looked up, and found his
wife pinned to the ceiling, her stomach sliced open. She burst into flames, John told
Dean to take baby Sam outside and tried to make a desperate and futile attempt to
save his wife while the house was consumed by flames.
After a psychic told John that something of the un natural was responsible for his
wife s death, he became obsessed with finding and destroying the thing that killed his
wife and in the process trained his sons to recognize, defend others and themselves
against supernatural entities. At a young age, both Sam and Dean became
resourceful hunters and experienced fighters assisting their father in his quest for
revenge, to destroy dangerous creatures and find the Demon that was responsible
for killing their mother. However, Sam rebelled against the lifestyle his father chose
for him, eventually having a big fight with his father and leaving to live a semi
normal life. He attended Stanford University on a full scholarship and lived with his
girlfriend, Jessica Moore, in an apartment near campus. But when Dean, after two
years of not talking, appears one night at Sam s apartment during the autumn of his
senior year, bringing the news that their father has gone missing while on a hunting
trip . Sam agrees to help Dean in the
Sexual Politics Of Microscopy In Brobdingnag Summary
Many literary scholars believe that throughout the text Gulliver is reduced to a
mere object when he arrives to each unfamiliar land. In Deborah Armintor essay
The Sexual Politics of Microscopy in Brobdingnag builds upon the analogy of
Marjorie Nicolson, which is that Gulliver is lowered to an object of a microscope
because he views things he would rather not see and then cruses his magnified
vision. (619). If Gulliver is this microscopic object he is not the one being
objectified the woman are. Through Gulliver s microscopic lens he makes woman
the object of his observation, thus leading him to objectify them as grotesque and
sexual. Gulliver being the embodiment of a microscope implies that he possesses the
ability of scientific reasoning, which makes him prone to observe and objectify the
opposite. When Gulliver arrives in land of Brobdingnag he is viewed as miniature
compared to the giants that inhabit the place, thus giving Gulliver this magnified
vision. In his new role, the miniature Gulliver, like the microscope he produces
magnified spectacles. When Gulliver observes the nurse, he states: The nurse, to quiet

Explain the purpose and structure of an agenda
A meeting agenda ensures that the meeting will be a productive use of everyone s
time. It can focus the attendee s efforts and provide a structure to accomplish the
meeting purpose. It defines outcomes, and important information, attendee roles
and responsibilities and a meeting timeline. It allows attendee s to prepare for the
meeting as it is made available a week before. It also works as a checklist of those
attending, goals and topics for discussion to make sure that all the necessary
information is covered and keeps team members focused on the specific goals and

The fall from Celestial was one way that could harm us otherwise there is no other

pushed myself onto my hands as I looked around, nothing but trees surrounded me.
Dirt coated my body like another layer of skin. I smiled to myself, I made a hole in

The Compensation Of Chief Executive Officers Essay
Introduction The compensation of chief executive officers and the methodology
used to determine it has become a major topic of debate in the business world.
Many people wonder not only why and how it has gotten to be so high, but also
why it isn t distributed amongst other major contributors inside the company, or
even amongst the lower ranks of the workforce via an increase in wage rates. One
of the more recent theories that provides an explanation to the increase in the pay
of chief executive officers is the size of firms relative to earlier years in business
development. Xavier Gabaix (2006, p. 50), states that his, central equation
predicts that a CEOs equilibrium pay is increasing with both the size of his firm
and the size of the average firm in the economy. This theory discusses largely that
as the scope of the economy increases, it is only natural that CEOs be compensated
at a higher rate. The reasoning behind this is that the CEOs are managing
companies of higher value, and thus are in theory putting more work and effort
into their companies as well. Based off this theory, it makes complete sense to do
this. However, I have set out to see if I can discover any other concrete reasoning
behind these often astronomical salaries, and if so, determine if this reasoning is
useful in determining salaries across a wide range of industries and structures of
very successful publicly traded companies. One of the main reasons I wanted to take
a look at both
A Study On Image Detection
Chapter 3. Image Detection 1.Introduction Using right algorithm, can make image
sensor sense or detect practically anything. Image sensors are one of the important
sensors been used in robotics industry because they are so flexible, but there are
two drawbacks with these kind of sensors: 1)they output lots of data, dozens of
megabytes per second, and 2) processing this amount of data can overwhelm many
processors. And even if the processor can keep up with the data, much of its
processing power won t be available for other tasks. Pixy cmucam5 solved these
two problems by intelligent way, it faced and solved these problems by paring a
powerful dedicated processor with the image sensor. Now pixy can processes
images from the image sensor and only sends the useful information (e.g. position
of object been assigned before by giving its x and y orientation) to whatever
microcontroller you have. This microcontroller then use this data as input then
process it to the actuators. Pixy does this data analyzing and processing at rate
(50Hz). And information which processed by pixy can available through several
interfaces: UART serial, SPI, I2C, digital out, or analog out. So it is easy to
communicate with pixy with Arduino or any other microcontroller and at the same
time still have a very large or plenty of CPU available for other tasks. Fig (1) I/O

The company uses a merit based pay structure to recognize employee performance.
Yearly evaluations of performance are conducted to rate employee s results of the
year compared to previously set goals. Kraft Heinz recognizes employees at every
level for outstanding performance. In 2014, over a thousand employees were
promoted because of their high performance and the value they added to the
organization (Kraft Heinz, Careers , 2015). Merit based pay is based on individual
performance. This method of pay and raises creates a link between rewards and the
employee s performance throughout the year. A danger of merit based pay, in
organizations like Kraft Heinz Co., is that management might give merit based raises
/promotions on how they perceive the employee will perform, so they may over or
under estimate pay decisions (Judge Robbins, 2016, pp. 137). However, the end of
the year assessments the company conducts to review performance and set goals for
the next year would help to reduce this
King Lear Love And Duty
In both works by Chaucer and Shakespeare, there are two themes that seems to
appear. The themes that appear are love and duty. These themes I think are seen more
clearly that the other themes that appear in either of their works. In The Miller s
Tale, there is something in it that relates to the theme of love. John shows real true
love because he tries everything to save Alisoun. In The Clerk s Tale, it talks
about a character named Walter who tries to fulfill his duty but failed. In
Shakespeare s play, King Lear, it shows both love and duty. It shows love because
Kent stayed with King Lear and he would die than live without him. Cordelia
following her father s orders and does what she is told because she loves her father.
King Lear has a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In King Lear, King Lear tells his daughters to profess their love to him and all the
daughters agree but Cordelia speaks up and say that her sisters, Goneril and Regan,
are being disloyal:
CORDELIA. Good my lord,
You have begot me, bred me, loved me.
I return those duties back as are right fit:
Obey you, love you, and most honor you.
Why have my sisters husbands if they say
They all love you? Haply, when I shall wed,
That lord whose hand must take my plight shall carry
Half my love with him, half my care and duty.
Sure, I shall never marry like my sisters,
To love my father all. (1.1. 105 115)
Cordelia is being very loyal to her father and his requests while her sisters are being
disloyal. Even though she was honest and did her duties as a daughter he still
disowned her out of the rage he felt. In The Miller s Tale John was the only person
in the poem to show Alisoun that he truly loves her when she was dying:
This carpenter answerde, Alla, my wyf!
And shal she drenche? allas, myn Alisoun!
For sorwe of this he fil almost adoun
And seyde, Is ther no remedie in this cas? (419 422)
He really loves her and he will do anything to save her from dying. In King Lear,
Kent is very loyal to King Lear because he loved him as a king, a father, a patron, and
a master. Even though there were risks

An Essay Describing A Person.pdf

  • 1. An Essay Describing A Person Crafting an essay that delves into the intricacies of describing a person may initially appear to be a straightforward task. However, the challenge lies not in the simplicity of the subject matter but in the depth and nuance required to truly capture the essence of an individual. The endeavor to encapsulate someone's character, personality, and impact on your life within the confines of an essay demands a delicate balance between objectivity and personal connection. To begin with, selecting the right person to focus on is a critical decision. Is it a family member, a friend, a historical figure, or perhaps even oneself? Each choice brings its own set of challenges. For instance, describing a close friend may lead to the temptation of veering into overly sentimental territory, while tackling a historical figure might require extensive research to ensure accuracy. Once the subject is chosen, the challenge deepens as you grapple with the task of conveying the person's essence through words. Language becomes both your ally and your adversary. It's a tool that can vividly paint a portrait, but it also has its limitations. The risk of falling into clichГ©s or resorting to generic adjectives looms large, potentially diluting the uniqueness of the person you are trying to depict. Moreover, the structure of the essay is crucial. Should you opt for a chronological account of the person's life, a thematic approach highlighting key aspects, or a more abstract exploration of their impact on your own life? Each choice brings its own set of challenges, and finding the right balance requires careful consideration. Additionally, the challenge extends to striking the right tone. Balancing objectivity with personal insight, avoiding exaggeration without underselling the person's significance – these are delicate tightropes to navigate. The challenge is not just in presenting the facts but in weaving them together seamlessly to create a cohesive and engaging narrative. In conclusion, while the topic of describing a person might seem straightforward at first glance, the process of doing so presents a myriad of challenges. From the initial selection of the subject to the intricacies of language, structure, and tone, the journey to produce a compelling essay requires careful thought and skillful execution. And for those seeking assistance in navigating these challenges, it's worth noting that similar essays and a plethora of writing services can be explored on HelpWriting.net. • 2. James Clark s Article, Without Evidence Or Argument In Kelly James Clark s Article Without Evidence or Argument , Clark argues that belief in God, does not require the support of evidence or argument in order for it to be rational. Clark s argument is against W.K. Clifford s article The Ethics of Belief , in which Clifford claims that everything must be believed only on the basis of sufficient evidence (139). Throughout Kelly Clark s article he states many things that support his conclusion of beliefwithout evidence or argument, however, my paper will only discuss what Clark says on p.139 starting with the paragraph The first problem with Clifford s... and the following paragraph, ending with the words ...to see why. Clark begins his article by giving examples of situation that align ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Clifford s universal demand for evidence he states that you base all of your beliefs on evidence (138). Clark utilizes this premise to restate the argument in which he will eventually will give reasoning to why the claim is false. In the article he foreshadows the problem with Clifford s demand for evidence by saying, No one would disagree: some beliefs require evidence for their rational acceptability. But all beliefs in every circumstance? (139) Clark is somewhat supporting the demand for evidence. However, he does not find it rational to believe that evidence is required in every situation. This leads us to our next premise, premise II, which states there are rational beliefs that are not supported by sufficient evidence. Clark identifies these rational beliefs as those acquired through sensory experience and beliefs that are self evident. He supports this premise by giving examples of some of these beliefs ..The sky is blue, grass is green .. (139). He goes on to say, ...every proposition is either true or false.. (139). I think that by Clark including these examples of beliefs through sensory experiences and self evidence, he seems to be saying that through our experiences, one can acquire beliefs even if our beliefs are false. It is rational to believe that the sky is blue because it is a belief we acquire through seeing the sky is blue. But according to Clark, seeing that the sky is blue is not enough sufficient evidence (like the sufficient
  • 3. Dead Sea Scrolls Sparknotes The Dead Sea Scrolls were written in three languages of Scripture. According to an an online article written by Ed Stetzer titled, A Closer Look: The Significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls, of the 941 scrolls that were found in the Qumran caves, 240 are biblical scrolls and 701 are non biblical scrolls. Of the 240 biblical scrolls, 235 are written in Hebrew, 5 in Greek and of the 701 non biblical scrolls, 548 are written in Hebrew, 137 in Aramaic and 5 in Greek. Flint says, this means that at least some Jews could speak Greek in late Second Temple Palestine, and reinforces the idea that Jesus and His followers knew Greek. Prior to the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest complete copy of the Hebrew Biblewas the Leningrad Codex. Stetzer highlights a point that none of the Qumran scrolls was written by or for Christians, but several are relevant for understanding the historical context of Christian origins. He goes on to say, the three books most commonly found at Qumran are Psalms (36 scrolls), Deuteronomy (30), and Isaiah (21). This is hardly a coincidence, but speaks to similar messianic expectations and covenantal themes among the Qumranites and the early Christians. Stetzer concludes his argument of the importance of The Dead Sea Scrolls by stating, the Dead Sea Scrolls help scholars get closer to the original Old Testamenttexts where variants have entered the tradition, plus they help set the historical and cultural context for the Intertestamental and

Options For Implementing Intrusion Detection Systems Essay Options for Implementing Intrusion Detection Systems Signature based IDS These IDS possess an attacked description that can be matched to sensed attack manifestations. It catches the intrusions in terms of the characteristics of known attacks or system vulnerabilities. This IDS analyzes information it gathers and compares it to a database of known attacks, which are identified by their individual signatures. The rules are pre defined. It is also known as misuse detection. The drawbacks of this IDS is that they are unable to detect novel or unknown attacks, Suffer from false alarm and have to programmed again for every new pattern to be detected. Anomaly based IDS This IDS models define the baseline to describe normal state of network or host. Any activity outside baseline is considered to be an attack i.e. it detects any action that significantly deviates from the normal behavior. The primary strength is its ability to recognize novel attacks. The drawback is that it assumes that intrusions will be accompanied by manifestations that are sufficiently unusual so as to permit detection. These generate many false alarms as well and hence compromise the effectiveness of the IDS. Network based IDS This IDS looks for attack signatures in network traffic via a promiscuous interface. It analyzes all passing traffic. A filter is usually applied to determine which traffic will be discarded or passed on to an attack recognition module. This helps to filter out known un malicious

Summary Of Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl Introduction Incidents in the life of a slave girl written by Harriet Jacobs and published by L.Maria Child (in 1831), is an autobiography by the author herself which documents Jacobs life as a slave and therefore The book starts when Jacobs is born as a slave in a city of North Carolina and then continues through her escape, her status as a runaway fugitive in the North, and finally her path to freedom when one of her northern white friends buys her in the year 1852. Jacobs autobiography which is known by the name of Incidents in a Life of a Slave Girl gave a true account of the treatment that black women faced during that time and also throwing some light on a perception which has been kept in shadows from the society. While writing the story of her life, Jacobs mainly focused on her defeat due to obstacles like race and gender, gave voice to something which was hidden from society regardless of the presence of patriarchal society of the nineteenth century. I do earnestly desire to arouse the women of the North to a realizing sense of the condition of two millions of women at the South, still in bondage, suffering what I suffered, and most of them far worse. ( By this she s trying to enlighten the women who were going through the same phase that she experienced during that time. She also terms it as her dark period.) After a quick escape from her master s house ,she is taken by a white woman who then helps in getting her freedom till the book ends. The white woman is self righteous, domestic and as Linda quotes her as pure . As the story continues , we see that Linda is caught twice by this master but the white woman defends her and do not lets Dr. Flint to take Linda away with him. According to others, a true white woman should never help a black woman especially if its regarding their escape from their master s house. Not even that but also ,she should not favour a woman if its about
  • 8. Henry David Thoreau Rhetorical Devices How do historical figures use rhetoric techniques in their writing? I believe that they use Aristotle s ethos, logos, and pathos of the rhetorical triangle. Two very important people that have used these tools of persuasion were Henry David Thoreau and Martin Luther King Jr . Both of these historical figures use the rhetorical triangle for different uses and reactions. Thoreau s rhetoric is calling for resistance, and King s rhetoric is calling for empathy and ending ignorance of race supremacy. Henry David Thoreaus Civil Disobedienceis persuading because of his authoritative language, political opinions, and an outreach to his readers. Martin Luther King Jr s Letter from Birmingham Jail is also persuading with his use of an analytical language, repetition, and criticisms. Not only are the authors using the same techniques, but also using them differently for their desired result. Thoreau s authoritative language is apparent throughout his writing. He writes as though he is reaching out to his audience, for example: Must the citizen ever for a moment, or in the least degree, resign his conscience to the legislator? Why has every man a conscience then? (para. 4). I believe his rhetorical use of logos is effective here. He is not only asking the reader, but also asking a rhetorical question to the reader as well. Thoreau s use of sarcasm goes along with his authoritative language within his rhetorical question. Everyone has their own right to think, and he is telling us that was won t be able to use our conscience if the government can control our thoughts. King s analytical language is very effective in his letter. He refers back to biblical references to analyze those events and compare them to his present. In his third paragraph, he tells his readers that he is where he is at because of injustice , and refers to a story about Paul, a disciple of Jesus Christ, and says, Apostle Paul left his village of Tarsus and carried the gospel of Jesus Christ to the far corners of the Greco Roman world, and so am I compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my home town (para. 3). Why does King repeatedly refer back to his biblical references? WE know that he was a preacher, so he can relate to these
  • 9. Otolaryngology Career Paper The medical profession is often times lumped into the thought that a doctor is a doctor . Many people fail to explore more into the specialized fields of medicine. There are 25 plus specialized fields and within those fields there are many subspecialties ( Specialties and Subspecialties ). All of these positions make up what is far too often generalized as the medical field . This paper is going to focus in on one specialtyin particular; otolaryngology, often referred to as ear, nose, and throat or ENT for short. Throughout this paper it ll explore what being an ENT is and what the job entails, what it takes to become an ENT, and the different subspecialties that fall into the otolaryngology category. • 10. How Does Richard Parker Use Fear In Life Of Pi Fueled by Fear Fighting for Dominance with a bengal tiger is not how Pi Patel thought his trip to Canada was going to go. Fear is a common enemy in modern day literature because fear is one of the most animalistic impulses of humans. Yann Martel describes fear being the fuel to survival through the irony of fear being motivational and personification of fear as a person in Life of Pi. Pi is in an ironic situation when it comes to Richard Parker and his own survival. Pi speaks of Richard Parker saving his life several times in the book, It is the irony of this story that the one who scared me witless to start with was the very same who brought me peace, purpose, I dare say even wholeness. There are numerous accounts of actions by Roosevelt and his top armed forces advisors, which reveal they were not only aware of an attack by Japan, but also they were planning on it, and instigating that attack. Roosevelt had wanted to enter the war for a long time. He believed Hitler would not declare war on the United States unless he thought they were beatable. Also, the United States public opinion was against going to war due to the stable and booming economy. Most of American society before the Pearl Harbor attack also believed in the idea of isolationism. Americans didn t want to get into the European war if they didn t have to. The only way in which Roosevelt could obtain support from the American people to enter the war was that a member of the Axis Power needed to make the first move. In other words, the Americans would need something to revenge from. To get the Japanese to attack, Roosevelt would need to provoke Japan. Lieutenant Commander Arthur H. Jim Crow Laws The Jim Crow era was one of struggle not only for the victims of violence, discrimination, and poverty, but by those who worked to challenge (or promote) segregation in the South ( Jim Crow Stories ). It is important to know the history of this significant period where everyone was treated differently based on how they looked instead of their character. During the Jim Crow era, the lives of African Americans were severely restricted making it difficult for them to succeed in everyday life. After the Civil War, most Southern and Border States deprived the basic rights of African Americans. Jim Crow was a fictitious character created by a white entertainer to ridicule African Americans. The laws were made in an attempt to keep African Americans away from whites after slavery ended ( Examples of Jim Crow ). The Jim Crow laws affected education, health care, and social events. From Delaware to California, and from North Dakota to Texas, many states (and cities, too) could impose legal punishments on people for consorting with members of another race ( Jim Crow Laws ). These punishments could be brutal or sometimes fatal. Education was and still is a very important aspect in life, but Jim Crow laws made receiving an equal education an impossible task. Education: The schools for white children and the schools for Negro children shall be conducted separately Florida ( Jim Crow Laws ). My first thoughts were, Oh, participation basically means being engaged through talking and actions , but as I gathered information to compose the essay and thought more deeply about the whole concept, I was brought to a different light on what participationreally means. I applied the new knowledge I gained and put all of my efforts into being an active student in the class. • 16. Romanticism And Realism In Twain s The Adventures Of Tom... Twain s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer satirizes the quixotism of individuals, expressive of the American people s pragmatic mentality toward life during the wake of the Realism movement of the nineteenth century. Following the Civil War, which ended in 1865, the Realism movement prompted artists to depict an accurate portrayal of society, which at the time, was in a state of havoc. In fact, it was a reaction to the Romantic movement that preceded it, which emphasized the importance of imagination. Twain s intentional narrative voice in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer enhances the novel by exposing and mocking the fraudulent nature of individuals, derived from the unrealistic expectations that are most commonly influenced by Romantic ideals. In fact, the term quixotism derives from Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra s Don Quixotewhere the principle figure dreams up an ideal world where he is the hero. Twain s characterizations reflect these views by depicting flaws such as the extreme focus on one s influence to the rest of society, reminiscent of the Romantic maxims of importance of oneself and individuality. In addition, Twain s satirical and blunt tone further enhance the novel by expressing the dissatisfaction with institutions, such as the Church. Lastly, he shows an impertinent attitude toward death, an object often glorified in romantic literature. As mentioned before, Twain s aims his most prominent critiques in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer at religion. By writing about
  • 17. Social Class in the United States Essay There is much debate about the issue of social class in the United States. There are arguments about whether social classes are distinctly separate or fluid, dependent upon one s community or society as a whole, and if they are subjective or objective (Hughes and Jenkins). However, despite the debate surrounding social classes, it is still important to try to define them and analyze their effects, as they are such an important part of our identity and our opportunities in society. Although our society has tried to appear as though we have no classes, and it is becoming harder to tell what class someone is in by material goods, classes do still exist today (Scott and Leonhardt). Despite the debates about social class, the United States is usually described as having four major social classes, the elite or upperclass, the middle class, the working class, and the lower class (Goldscmidt). Classes are generally differentiated by income, education, and occupation although other factors do have an effect. The upperclass consists of about 1% of the population making 750,000 dollars or more a year as investors, top executives, or heirs to large fortunes (Hughes and Jenkins). There tends to be no question about who is in the upperclass as they are pretty clearly isolated in their power and wealth. The middle class makes up about 40% of the population making anywhere from 40,000 to 749,999 dollars a year (Hughes and Jenkins). The large disparity in income and wealth have led to a further division of this class into upper middle class and middle class in some circles. The middle class usually work white collar jobs as professionals and managers, however some highly skilled blue collar workers are included. Those in the middle class have usually obtained higher education degrees and place a high value on individual responsibility for one s class (Goldschmidt). The working class is composed of about 50% of the population earning 13,000 to 39,000 dollars a year (Hughes and Jenkins). Some also divide this class into a working class and a

Social Disadvantages Of Indigenous Australian Students Furthermore, it has been established that the continuousness of social disadvantage (Dobia O Rourke, 2011, p.5) for Indigenous Australian students, can act as a barrier to learning (AIHW, 2014, p.4). Students may become disengaged (AIHW, 2014, p.6) from a combination of various social factors, and may develop mental health disorders, resulting in these students avoiding or performing poorly in school. The ways that Indigenous Australian students are affected by social disadvantages (Dobia O Rourke, 2011, p.5) vary, however, research suggests that they continue to include a combination of major contributing stress factors such as low parental income, low educationattendance, cultural differences (Commonwealth of Australia, 2007), and, a high degree of chronic health conditions in the family (Telethon Kids Institute, 2006, p.38). Purdie and Buckley (2010) propose that the lack of recognition by schools of Indigenous culture and history, the failure to fully engage parents and the community, and, the ongoing disadvantage in many areas of the daily lives of Indigenous Australians(p.3), has continued to act as a consequence in the classroom for Indigenous Australian students. This has resulted in the continued decrease of educational outcomes for Indigenous Australian students.

The Rising Concern Within The Public Health Sector 1.0 Preamble Despite being a large global epidemic, Obesity remains to be one of the most challenging and neglected health issues within society (Glenny et al. 1997). In 2008 the Australian Government spent $58 billion on direct healthcare and obesity related management, and this value continues to rise exponentially(Agency 2014). This profound impact on population health has made it a rising concern within the public health sector. With trends predicting that by 2025 80% of all Australians will suffer from obesity, leaving future generations to experience shorter life expectancies when they reach twenty years of age(University 2013). This rise in morbidity is largely reflected by changes within society, with urbanisation and global marketing promoting unhealthy lifestyles and discouraging physical activity(Alexander Baur 2007). Changes in marketing and food supply has led to readily available and cheap alternatives to home cooked meals whilst, changes to occupations have replaced active environments with sedentary deskbound jobs (Glenny et al. 1997). Furthermore, challenges in the global economy has led to increased areas of social disadvantage, with a study by the Australian National Preventive Health Agency in 2005 showing socially disadvantage communities were twice at risk of obesity related disease than low disadvantaged living areas (ANPHA, 2014). Lack of education, availability of greenspace, rurality and ethnicity were further considered to effect obesity

Characterisation And Symbolism In Hamlet William Shakespeare s metaphysical tragedy Hamlet, explores the complexities of the human condition, in a world shaped heavily by tensions triggered by Medieval and Renaissance paradigms. Shakespeare s masterful use of language, content and construction serves to reflect enduring values through Hamlet s struggle in distinguishing truth from illusion, and his navigation of the moral complexities of revenge and human mortality. Despite changing interpretations of the play, Shakespeare s characterisation and symbolism of Hamletas an existentialist hero engages the play s textual integrity, fuelling its transcendence of contextual boundaries and continual relevance with modern audiences. Through Hamlet, Shakespeare expresses the epistemological doubt our realities are built upon by exploring the duality of human behaviour in a pursuit for total truth. Hamlet s antithetical questioning of the Ghost as either a spirit of health or goblin damned evinces ambiguity within Hamlet, with the imagery foul, strange and unnatural reiterating the dramatic tension evoked by the warlike Ghost. The use of the ghost as a plot device coupled with the epanalepsis Seems, madam? Nay it is, I know not seems cautions the fallibility of the Ghost in its possibility of unveiling some foul play . Through the dichotomous epizeuxis One may smile, and smile, and be a villain and his fretful diction all is not well , Hamlet contests the veracity of mankind, catalyzing his misogyny towards Ophelia as evinced through the hendiadys Th expectancy and rose of the fair state which highlights the splitting duality at the heart of human nature. This is reinforced by the juxtaposed portrayal of the lines most beautified Ophelia and Get thee to a nunnery , exemplifying Hamlet s deceitful means of relationship as a manipulative front. Marcellus s synecdoche something is rotten in the state of Denmark substantiates the corruption infecting Denmark state, drawing upon the motif of decay as attested by Hamlet s metaphor an unweeded garden that grows to seed. Things rank and gross . Hamlet s employment of The Mousetrap , the mise en abyme, ultimately heightens the frailty of truth, sparking fallacious notions as he attempts to

The second phase is the transition where slowing mortality rates and high birth rates produce raid population growth. In contrast, the understanding of factors such as gender to be social constructed and uniquely situated in cultural contexts enables the political economy theory to explain how reproduction is constructed differently across time and space. A greater understanding of these theories divergent nature occurs when viewing reproductive systems under both lenses. One reproductive behavior that appears radically different when compared under both theories is the system of Birth Spacing in the Congo. Nacy Rose Hunt presents this practice in her article, Le Bebe en Brousse : European women, African Birth Spacing and Colonial Intervention in Breast Feeding in the Belgian Congo. Birth spacing was a cultural practice where women abstained from sexual intercourse for two or three years while they were breast feeding (Hunt 1988: 404). • 32. Revlon V. Mcandrews And Forbes Revlon v. McAndrews Forbes: Less than a year later, the Delaware Supreme Court circumscribed directors freedom of action by holding in this case that, once a sale is in progress, the director s duty switches from protection or maintenance of the corporate enterprise to obtaining the highest price for the benefit of the shareholders. In other words, once directors understand that the takeoverwill be successful, their duty is simply to obtain the best price for the shareholders. The first precedents of the Delaware Supreme Court show that the standards were reluctant to the permissiveness in adopting defensive measures. Rather, the courts preferred the passivity of the board. However, 4 years later the standards changed when the Court relaxed the reins that had been tightened in Unocal and Revlon. Paramount Inc. v. Time Inc.: The court gave more leeway to directors in deciding on defensive measures, even after it was inevitable that the target would be sold. The court held that directors of target could consider factors other than money values of the offers, including the amount of information available to shareholders, the conditions attached to the offers, and the timing. These factors might justify defensive measures. These defenses were called just say no defenses . They refer to the ability of directors to simply reject takeovers for the purpose of protecting the constituencies of the company. Unitrin v. American General: The Supreme Court of Delaware expanded

Other profitable business leaders that made little to no effort to assist those in need included J. Pierpont Morgan, who turned Andrew Carnegie s steel corporation into a booming industry. Many of these successful entrepreneurs were self centered and believed in the idea of Social Darwinism in which only the strongest individuals can thrive in the marketplace. These pompous tycoons ignored the people who needed them most which led to the formation of numerous unions. William H. Factory laborers worked long hours and days. They were also forced to work in dangerous and unhealthy factories that caused frequent industrial accidents. Along with the National Labor Union, the Knights of Labor was another organization that worked towards improving the workforce for others. The Knights of Labor was created by Uriah S. Instead of having a wage system, supporters of this union hoped to establish a cooperative system that would allow workers to have more control in the economy. House Altar With Akhenaten, Nefertiti And Three Daughters Sarah Gordon Mrs. Jennifer Awes Freeman Art History 1 20 September 2014 House Altar with Akhenaten, Nefertiti and Three Daughters The art of the ancient Egyptians is known for how consistent it remained for thousands of years. The Amarna period is significant because it was a brief shift from that consistency under the Pharaoh Amenhotep IV, (who later changed his named to Akhenaten) his Queen, Nefertiti and later, Tutankhamen. They began worshipping the sun god Aten, which is evident in the art that was commissioned. Instead of using strict registers, walls were cluttered with images. (Giuliano). An example of this stylistic turn is the House Altar with Akhenaten, Nefertiti and Three Daughters. The house altar is a piece that was carved into limestone during the Amarna period of the 18th dynasty around 1350 BC. It would have been similar to the altars found in homes that the royal couples subjects could worship. That altar features the royal couple and three of their daughters in a domestic setting. Akhenaten and Nefertiti are depicted as the only ones with access to the god Aten, characterized by a sun disk with a cobra engraved in it. Jane is drawn to places full of icy, dreary weather as opposed to places that seem warmer and comforting. • 46. Theme Of Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird A Persistent Issue In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, injustice is a chronic theme. A lack of fairness or unfair judgement defines the term injustice. The theme itself has different forms as well; legal injustice and social injustice are the primary forms of injustice found in Lee s tale. It is an underlying theme throughout the story that affects each of the characters and the course of their lives. It is also a topic that existed as part of everyday life in the time period in which the book is set. This may have been the reason why this book was written in this time period, when injustice was conventional and more acceptable than in today s age. Injustice is rampant throughout the book and takes the form of the social injustice in the school, the social injustice in the town, and the legal injustice in the trial of Tom Robinson. One of the first times that the reader observes social injustice in the book is the way in which the school of Maycomb County operates. Various distinct examples of this social injustice in the school can be found throughout the book, but a main example is when Scout s teacher persistently held her back in school. Atticus and Calpurnia educated Scout to read and write, but the school required her to learn at the much slower pace of the rest of the class instead of encouraging further learning. Another example is when the students judged Walter Cunningham and Burris Ewell falsely based on their last names or family traits. You re shamin

Below I will be describing my journey of trying to violate a social norm in a public setting, how I felt, the reactions people had towards me, and the barriers that kept me from choosing different options. Since I did not want to have to create my own social normto violate, I had five options to pick from. The social norm I chose to try to violate this week was number two: position yourself six inches from an acquaintance s nose during a conversation. The reason I chose this social norm to violate was because I thought it sounded like the easiest or least embarrassing choice. Other options required me to stand up in front of many people which is not enjoyable. Another reason I chose this one was because some of the options could not really be applied to my life. For example, I do not use public transportation nor do I use any elevators on campus. So, one night I was eating dinner with my roommate and cousin in the dinner center. My cousin usually sits next to me and my roommate usually sits across from me when we are eating. I thought to myself this would be a perfect situation for me to try to violate my social norm. From using, a different method to determine the speed at which the oil spill ran I also found that the oil did not migrate linearly from the spill site in terms of distance as a function of time. I concluded that there was a non linearity between day 19 and day 38. This non linearity could be caused by the change in the current movement in the Gulf of Alaska. Part 3 Design and Methodology: For finding how fast, the oil moves down the Gulf of Alaska I first found a quick and imprecise rate of 8.39 miles/day by dividing 470 miles by 56 days. I knew this was not an exact number, but it gave me somewhere to start. I then turn to excel to find a more precise rate. I used the days as my y axis and the miles the oil migrated as my x axis. From creating a graph, I was able to find from the regression equation that the oil moves at a rate of 7.69 miles/day. The non linearity that I found in the data shows that the gap happens between day 19 and day 28. In this gap, I found that the oil spill slowed down to about 1.58 miles/day. I calculated the regression of the first gap from day 4 to day 19 and found that the oil spill moved at a rate of 13.09 miles/day. Then I did the same for the upper half of the break and found that the oil spill runs 10.55 miles/day from day 38 to day 56. In Deborah Armintor essay The Sexual Politics of Microscopy in Brobdingnag builds upon the analogy of Marjorie Nicolson, which is that Gulliver is lowered to an object of a microscope because he views things he would rather not see and then cruses his magnified vision. Through Gulliver s microscopic lens he makes woman the object of his observation, thus leading him to objectify them as grotesque and sexual. Werewolves, creatures that were created by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I could read minds, only one at a time, but it took a lot of focus and it helped to have the bowl. My body was in no condition to use its gifts I were blessed with. It was slowly regenerating. Taking the fall is used like a punishment for angels who abuse their gift, they become one of the fallen, evil and corrupted. The Alpha waved his hand and the other scouts left leaving five wolves remaining. I was no major threats but still unknown. He bent down to my height in the hole my body lay. What happened to you? he asked softly I couldn t lie, it was impossible or it would cause us great pain, a step to becoming a fallen. I fell. I can tell, he smiled along with the Beta. Must have been one hell of a fall, the Beta commented. I m no threat, I voiced. That what a threat would say, a wolf piped. The Alpha glanced at him. Listen to my heartbeat to tell if I am lying, wolf. I am no threat to your pack. I spoke the truth. His hazel eyes glanced back to me, I believe you. I smiled in relief. Hopefully, I can save him from the evil coming. Beta asked, can you get up? I nodded, my head easier to move already, I just need to wait for my body to heal, should take half an hour. The Beta looked at me curiously and down, communicating with the Alpha sniffing the air. You aren t human, the Alpha spoke. No, I am not. What are you? the Beta asked. They cannot know about us, don t give them a straight answer. Since they asked an open question it is easier
  • 53. The Compensation Of Chief Executive Officers Essay Introduction The compensation of chief executive officers and the methodology used to determine it has become a major topic of debate in the business world. Many people wonder not only why and how it has gotten to be so high, but also why it isn t distributed amongst other major contributors inside the company, or even amongst the lower ranks of the workforce via an increase in wage rates. One of the more recent theories that provides an explanation to the increase in the pay of chief executive officers is the size of firms relative to earlier years in business development. Xavier Gabaix (2006, p. 50), states that his, central equation predicts that a CEOs equilibrium pay is increasing with both the size of his firm and the size of the average firm in the economy. This theory discusses largely that as the scope of the economy increases, it is only natural that CEOs be compensated at a higher rate. The reasoning behind this is that the CEOs are managing companies of higher value, and thus are in theory putting more work and effort into their companies as well. Based off this theory, it makes complete sense to do this. However, I have set out to see if I can discover any other concrete reasoning behind these often astronomical salaries, and if so, determine if this reasoning is useful in determining salaries across a wide range of industries and structures of very successful publicly traded companies. One of the main reasons I wanted to take a look at both
  • 54. A Study On Image Detection Chapter 3. Image Detection 1.Introduction Using right algorithm, can make image sensor sense or detect practically anything. Image sensors are one of the important sensors been used in robotics industry because they are so flexible, but there are two drawbacks with these kind of sensors: 1)they output lots of data, dozens of megabytes per second, and 2) processing this amount of data can overwhelm many processors. And even if the processor can keep up with the data, much of its processing power won t be available for other tasks. Pixy cmucam5 solved these two problems by intelligent way, it faced and solved these problems by paring a powerful dedicated processor with the image sensor. Now pixy can processes images from the image sensor and only sends the useful information (e.g. position of object been assigned before by giving its x and y orientation) to whatever microcontroller you have. This microcontroller then use this data as input then process it to the actuators. Pixy does this data analyzing and processing at rate (50Hz). And information which processed by pixy can available through several interfaces: UART serial, SPI, I2C, digital out, or analog out. So it is easy to communicate with pixy with Arduino or any other microcontroller and at the same time still have a very large or plenty of CPU available for other tasks. The company uses a merit based pay structure to recognize employee performance. Yearly evaluations of performance are conducted to rate employee s results of the year compared to previously set goals. Kraft Heinz recognizes employees at every level for outstanding performance. In 2014, over a thousand employees were promoted because of their high performance and the value they added to the organization (Kraft Heinz, Careers , 2015). Merit based pay is based on individual performance. This method of pay and raises creates a link between rewards and the employee s performance throughout the year. A danger of merit based pay, in organizations like Kraft Heinz Co., is that management might give merit based raises /promotions on how they perceive the employee will perform, so they may over or under estimate pay decisions (Judge Robbins, 2016, pp. 137). However, the end of the year assessments the company conducts to review performance and set goals for the next year would help to reduce this
  • 56. King Lear Love And Duty In both works by Chaucer and Shakespeare, there are two themes that seems to appear. The themes that appear are love and duty. These themes I think are seen more clearly that the other themes that appear in either of their works. In The Miller s Tale, there is something in it that relates to the theme of love. John shows real true love because he tries everything to save Alisoun. In The Clerk s Tale, it talks about a character named Walter who tries to fulfill his duty but failed. In Shakespeare s play, King Lear, it shows both love and duty. It shows love because Kent stayed with King Lear and he would die than live without him. In King Lear, King Lear tells his daughters to profess their love to him and all the daughters agree but Cordelia speaks up and say that her sisters, Goneril and Regan, are being disloyal: CORDELIA. Good my lord, You have begot me, bred me, loved me. I return those duties back as are right fit: Obey you, love you, and most honor you. Why have my sisters husbands if they say They all love you? Haply, when I shall wed, That lord whose hand must take my plight shall carry Half my love with him, half my care and duty. Sure, I shall never marry like my sisters, To love my father all. (1.1. 105 115) Cordelia is being very loyal to her father and his requests while her sisters are being disloyal. Even though she was honest and did her duties as a daughter he still disowned her out of the rage he felt. In The Miller s Tale John was the only person in the poem to show Alisoun that he truly loves her when she was dying: This carpenter answerde, Alla, my wyf! And shal she drenche? allas, myn Alisoun! For sorwe of this he fil almost adoun And seyde, Is ther no remedie in this cas? (419 422) He really loves her and he will do anything to save her from dying.
