3. Analysis Of The Speech Praise Of Eros On Plato Symposium
Jose A. Nunez
Introduction to Philosophy 1113
Professor Dr. Sarah Woolvine
March 23rd, 2015.
Tittle:
Analysis of Speeches Given in Praise of Eros on Plato Symposium
Among the ancient Greek philosophers, Plato was one of the greatest. Known for his remarkable
philosophical works, Plato was born into a very prominent Athenian family, and he was expected to
have a proliferous political career, but the political scene at that time made Plato devote himself
instead to his philosophical inquiry, and teaching others about it. His passion for knowledge was
limitless. He founded the Academy around 385 B.C., a very important educational institution that has
served as prototype of the Western University System until today.
Plato was one the Socrates greatest admirers. Socrates was a brilliant Greek philosopher at that time,
whose philosophical works stand at the foundation of modern Western philosophy. Unfortunately, he
never recorded his works. Nevertheless, most of our current knowledge about Socrates stems from
Plato s work. We find Plato s thought mostly in the form of fictional dialogues, a very common
literary style in ancient Greece. Most of these dialogues have Socrates as the protagonist, and primary
interlocutor. Plato uses Socrates as a mouthpiece of his own views, and philosophical ideals.
Undoubtedly, one of the most known Plato s dialogues was Symposium. The word symposium itself
means drinking together, or in other words, a drinking party

5. Music And Semantics Influence The Emotions Perceived...
Can the emotions elicited by music and semantics influence the emotions perceived in visual stimuli?
Interim report. Introduction The immediate aim of this study is to examine whether participants
perception of primed facial expressions is influenced more by the emotions elicited from music, or
words played during the rating of the faces. This experiment will also aim to study how participants
empathy and state trait levels will change the way that the music/words effects their rating of primed
neutral faces. The time that the participants take to rate each face will also be measured as a reaction
time to see if the mood induced by the music will have any effect on the time it takes to assess each
face. If this study can dissociate the effects of music and semantics on the rating of faces then we can
conclude that we use separate mechanisms in the generating of emotionality. Studying the difference
in the effects of semantics vs music on emotions will allow us to determine which medium has a large
effect over ones emotions, and just how significant this difference is. It is widely accepted in the
scientific community that music can influence our emotions, this is the reason that films are heavily
reliant on the score to help influence the viewers emotions in order to make the film a more engaging,
emotional experience. Rosenbaum Prinskys (1987) research found that the two main reasons that
college students in California listen to music were it helps me to relax

IV. Supplier Power
A producing industry requires raw materials labor, components, and other supplies. This requirement
leads to buyer supplier relationships between the industry and the firms that provide it the raw
materials used to create products. Suppliers, if powerful, can exert an influence on the producing
industry, such as selling raw materials at a high price to capture some of the industry s profits. The
following tables outline some factors that determine supplier power.

From a strategic perspective, barriers can be created or exploited to enhance a firm s competitive
advantage. Barriers to entry arise from several sources:
Government creates barriers. Although the principal role of the government in a market is to preserve
competition through anti trust actions, government also restricts competition through the granting of
monopolies and through regulation. Industries such as utilities are considered natural monopolies
because it has been more efficient to have one electric company provide power to a locality than to
permit many electric companies to compete in a local market. To restrain utilities from exploiting this
advantage, government permits a monopoly, but regulates the industry. Illustrative of this kind of
barrier to entry is the local cable company. The franchise to a cable provider may be granted by
competitive bidding, but once the franchise is awarded by a community a monopoly is created. Local
governments were not effective in monitoring price gouging by cable operators, so the federal
government has enacted legislation to review and restrict prices.
The regulatory authority of the government in restricting competition is historically evident in the
banking industry. Until the 1970 s, the markets that banks could enter were limited by state
governments. As a result, most banks were local commercial and

Nike uses vertical integration strategy which is a form of a relationship oriented approach in coming
up with effective and efficient ways of managing its supply chain. This is achieved through forming
alliances and relationships rather than using pricing strategy with an aim of purchasing stuff as cheap
as possible (Frisch, 2008). The company has managed to maintain its relationship with contract
manufacturers for its foot ware by having different types of suppliers. The strategy is used in pricing
its commodities where they have participants at different channel levels so that they could control
costs and influence practices of pricing. For example, there are tier 1 suppliers and tier 2 suppliers

integration strategy forward or backward, or it may use a mix of both, known as a balanced integration

8. Teaching and Learning Styles
It is evident that schools in the current society are filled with diversity whether it is culturally,
ethnically or socially (Montgomery Groat, 1998). All of these unique features can play a part in the
type of learning style the child prefers. The personality and genetic makeup of the learner also affects
the way in which they perceive and process information differently to other learners. (Gregorc, 1982)
According Ellis (1985, p.14) a learning style is the more or less consistent way in which a person
perceives, conceptualizes, organizes and recalls information. Therefore it is extremely vital that
teachers adapt their teaching styles within the classroom so that each child is able to gain full
knowledge of content taught and are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These types of learners go hand in hand with the different learning styles, all depending on the
individual themselves.
There are many subjects that do not fit all types of teaching styles, especially when reaching the later
grades in the educational environment. (Lemmer, Meier Van Wyk, 2006) However by this stage most
learners have been equipped with the necessary learning skills to understand and learn by the style that
best suits the subject. Science is a good example as to grasp the concepts of mixing chemicals or
gaining textual knowledge one needs to physically acquire such information by means of experiments
and examinations. In this type of subject reading material would not be enough to gain full
understanding. In universities where there are a great number of students lecturing is the best teaching
method as other teaching methods would fail due to allocated time, space and effectiveness. Yet
lecturing would not work in a Grade. 1 class as the children do not have the skills to understand need
more hands on, personal teaching. Therefore age, knowledge and ability influence the teaching style
an educator may use when teaching particular content. (Lemmer, Meier Van Wyk, 2006)
In conclusion it is inevitable that learners bring to the classroom a great diversity of learning styles. So
as for a teacher it is difficult to please all styles simultaneously, but if you vary the

What surprised me most about this documentary was that as a child I had just assumed that the
sporadic and fantastical adventures of Indiana Jones were fiction in their entirety. I never would have
been able to guess that many parts of his adventures mirrored the lives of real life archeologists. What
was most interesting about learning about the way Indiana Jones and modern day archeologists share
some of the same adventures was the way they spoke about it so practically. The endless insects, the
illnesses, the natives and rivalries, it was all like hearing this grand adventure become real life. It was
fascinating having this idea of archeology being a somewhat mild and monotonous career flipped

10. Point of View Essay
Each individual short story has its own point of view and voice. Within short stories there are different
types of narrative and also different types of irony being used. Each individual author has their own
way of telling a story; also they have a certain way to portray their story to an audience. For two
specific short stories Everything That Rises Must Converge and Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter we can
analyze to see what point of view and voice is being used. Everything That Rises Must Converge is a
story that takes place in the 1960 s. A recent college graduate, Julian who escorts his mother to her

pressure. He escorts her there every week ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not evident who is actually telling the story and its events. The story is not told in past tense
which would imply that Julian was the one in fact telling the story. For Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter this
is also told form a third person point of view. We can see that the story is not being told by any of the
characters, and it shows the emotions and actions of everyone in the story. The narrative persona for
this story is more close to Mrs. Dutta then other characters as the story mainly revolves around how
Mrs. Dutta is feeling and her actions. The narrative persona shows a glimpse of the other characters
emotions while focusing on Mrs. Dutta. Mrs. Dutta, who had never, through forty two years of
marriage, addressed Sagar s father by name tried not to wince. (Borroway)Both stories are similar by
the fact that they have the same type of narrative persona. In other stories such as What You Pawn I
Will Redeem this is coming from a first person narrative. The story is being told by the main character
and he knows little about the other emotions felt by other characters. For Everything That Rises Must
Converge and Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter the distance would seem to be closer as the reader knows
each of the characters feelings and their emotions. Secondly, we can review of the types of irony that
is being used for each story. Every story has its individual way of conveying a message to its readers.

11. Moral Responsibility and Harry Frankfurt
The incompatibilists argue that one is morally responsible for what she has done given that she could
have done otherwise. Further, they think that if determinism is true then one could not have done
otherwise, so if determinism is true, one is not morally responsible for things she has done. In debates
surrounding the issue of free will, philosophers have focused on discussing whether determinism is
true or false. Harry Frankfurt thinks even though the requirement of alternative possibilities in order to
be held morally responsible for our actions seems intuitively plausible, it is a questionable premise in
the argument provided by incompatibilists. Frankfurt calls the premise that a person is morally
responsible for what he has done only if he could have done otherwise the principle of alternative
possibilities or PAP (Frankfurt, 829). He argues that PAP is false and a person can be held morally
responsible even if she could not have done otherwise. Frankfurt presents counterexamples to PAP to
prove its falsity. He tells us to assume that there is a universal controller that wants to ensure certain
outcomes. The controller makes it impossible for an agent to act otherwise, which causes her to act
exactly as the controller wishes. Frankfurt argues that in such a case it is true that agent is not
responsible for her action and that she could not have done otherwise, but he thinks that the agent s
lack of responsibility does not follow from her inability to do otherwise.

feet away if it is a law enforcement model. For a TASER to be fully effective in attaining a suspect,
both of the TASERs probes must make contact with their intended target. In a random sample of fifty
scenarios where the TASER was deemed as ineffective and void, thirty eight percent could be justified
of of the facts that both of the probes did not make full contact with the target or both of the probes

Outpost is a local business that prides itself on providing natural, organic food for the community. As
part of its mission, it made the decisions to build the pop up store in the Lindsay Heights
neighborhood to help create a stronger community while providing to viable source to buy fresh,
affordable food. Part of Outpost s vision is to make sure a community has access to organically and
locally produced foods (Mission Values). They also vow to work towards providing products that

18. How Change Is Inevitable And It Is Important For Companies
Organizational change is inevitable and it is important for companies to embrace and implement
change without suffering severe consequences. Change can occur for several reasons, but first let s
discuss two different categories where change comes from. Change has two drivers: external and
internal. Things such as laws, demographics, competition, or the economy drives external change;
while internal change is driven by internal factors such as new management systems, increase in
morale or the implementation of new technology. People naturally fear change and most will resist it.
In order for a company to transition smoothly, it will need to do extensive planning from beginning to
end. There are several steps a company can take to make the adjustment easier, starting with managing
the change appropriately.
It is extremely important to manage change appropriately from the very beginning in order to
eliminate any immediate negative side effects. The first step is to select a management team to lead
the change. A plan of action needs to be in place and it must address issues that are likely to occur,
such as employee resistance. The management team should be active, visible and approachable by all
employees. Talk and discuss the changes that will be taking place, give reasons of why the changes are
happening. David Jones, change consultant, said Get clear about why you need to make a change. Is

It s the years following World War II, tension is high. A group a british school boys crash their plane in
the ocean and they swim to an uninhabited island. The island have pigs, water, and other valuable
resources to help them survive. Once they appear on the island, they decided to set up rules and laws
to govern their little society. A twelve year old boy disagrees with the laws and starts a rebellion. Now
the trouble begins. This is story line of a book of the name of The Lord of the Flies by William
Golding. These rules and laws create comfort, according to Golding. These rules can be compromised
by fear. In the case of the The Lord of the Flies, the children fear a creature called beastie. This fear
can cause chaos and make people doing things they don t normally do. The fear brings out the worst in
people and it starts with beastie and leads to a the rebellion of jack, and the demise of Simon and

What s in the forest that could be dangerous? This is the questions that sends a pandemic of mass
hysteria throughout the boy s colony. The beastie, the beastie or the snake thing was real, remember?
The two older boys flinched when they heard the shameful syllable (Golding 52). They learn about the
beastie because a strange child comes out of the forest and warns of a dangerous creature called the

22. Cause Of Homework
Is homework more trouble than it is worth? Many students would say it is. Often times, students will
work on homework for several hours a day and produce no results. Whether it is in tests, quizzes, or
real life situations, improvement does not always show in the results. In fact, homework can cause
many different problems. Teachers should stop assigning homework so students will not feel as
stressed about school, will have more time to do activities, will have less strain in their relationships,
and will not have the negative effects that homework brings.
Having too much homework causes students large amounts of stress and lack of sleep that can cause

students considered homework a primary source of stress, forty three percent of the students viewed
tests as a primary stressor, thirty three percent put pressure to get good grades in that category

means that about 4273 students considered homeword a stressor, while less than 50 out of 4317
students believed homework to not be a stressor. Out of the students surveyed, the average amount of
homework was three hours and six minutes of homework (Greicius). The large amount of homework
causes large amounts of stress, but it also causes sleep deprivation and other health problems such as
headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation,

23. Tonkin Gulf Resolution
In early August 1964, two U.S. destroyers stationed in the Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam radioed that they
had been fired upon by North Vietnamese forces. The Gulf of Tonkin Incident was a major turning
point in the United States military involvement in Vietnam. North Vietnamese warships had attacked
United States warships, the U.S.S. Maddox and the U.S.S. C. Turner Joy, on two separate occasions in
the Gulf of Tonkin. This action of violence from the North Vietnamese led to the passing of the Tonkin
Gulf Resolution. This resolution became the legal basis for the Johnson and Nixon Administrations
prosecution of the Vietnam War. Diem held control of the South Vietnamese Government, but he
could not halt the communist infiltration of the South.

24. Reflection In Art Writing
The key realisation recognised throughout my art practice this semester has been my investigation of
various binaries; including the study of public and private spheres, internal and external thoughts, and
individual works versus participatory projects. Further consideration of nostalgia, poetry, and the idea
of absence has also been prevalent within my current artwork. This semester I ve also begun
examining the connection my practice has to gesture and the body where my handwriting is perceived
as a physical extension of myself. My overall thinking and making processes teeters back and forth
between my fascination of the idiosyncratic lives of others and using my practice as a cathartic
process to healthily response to traumatic experiences. Although initially regarded as a setback in my
practice, the return to intimate, diaristic confessions encapsulates the foundations of my practice
which is examining my intense, instinctual desire to communicate with the people around me. Thus
far when making artwork this semester, my internal struggle between experimenting with new
concepts and wanting to use my practice to heal has influenced the type of work that I ve made. How I
ve incorporated both desires into my practice is best shown in my works ephemera memorabilia,
Untitled (participatory projections), and apostle tender respectively. Ephemera memorabilia is a video
of my hands turning the pages of terrible confessional and pathetic conversation, a book of visual
poetry and

25. Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Energy
The Pros and Cons of Nuclear Energy
Tiny objects known as atoms are always around you. The mass of each of these atoms have a
concentrated centre known as the nucleus, and the rest of the mass is in a cloud of electrons which
surrounds the nucleus. Protons and neutrons are particles that make up the nucleus. Under special
circumstances, the nucleus of a large atom can split into two. This is due to an amount of the mass of
the atom is being converted to pure energy. The famous formula produced by Albert Einstein, where
the M is the mass and C is the speed of light m/s. The Manhattan Project successfully used this energy
in a chain reaction to create nuclear bombs (What is Nuclear, 2016). Nuclear energy in today s society
has expanded as far as having over 400 power reactors in the world. However, there are many
positives and negatives about nuclear energy, ranging from nuclear weapons to disasters like
Chernobyl in 1986. The potential of the nuclear fission to create energy was discovered by an Italian
Physicist, Enrico Fermi in 1934 when he blasted atoms and found out that the products were much
finer than what he originally thought (Earth Eclipse, 2017). He made the original nuclear reaction on
December 2, 1942 and figure out its power and efficiency to use. In July 1945, the first test on nuclear
reaction was held in the desert of New Mexico through a nuclear bomb. Nuclear energy is generated
through a nuclear power plant which makes a very complex system in order

26. The Forces of Evil in The Tragical History of Doctor...
Dr. Faustus in The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, by Christopher Marlowe and William
Shakespeare s Macbeth have similar interactions with forces of evil. Both characters believe it is
necessary to gain power by following the devil or witches. Macbeth follows the witches equivocal
prophecy to have absolute control over Scotland. He gives up his place in heaven to be king on earth.
After Macbeth s murder of Duncan, Macbeth has entered into a Faustian Bargain which he will never
be able to return from. The Macbeth s witches and Faustus s devil promise power. The witches
promise Macbeth power over Scotland, while the Devil promises Faustus power of the mind. Macbeth
considers how the witches promise a bright future for him, but they could also ruin him in the end. He
debates whether he should listen to prophecy by waiting for time and fate, or committing murder to
seize the crown. Macbeth contemplates that Duncan s murder, Could trammel up the consequences,
and catch, with his surcease, success (1.7.2 4). There is a chance Duncan s assassination could happen
without consequence. Macbeth decides in his soliloquy during Act I, to commit to Duncan s murder.

27. Exposure Of Radiation Exposure On Medical Practitioners
Exposure to ionizing radiation is of concern to many medical practitioners. The risks of radiation
exposure are well documented within the scientific literature and include cataract formation, skin
cancer, thyroid disease and leukaemia.1 Medical staff who work in the operating theatre are a sizable
population potentially at risk for these complications.2 With advances in medical technology in past
decades and an ongoing trend towards minimally invasive techniques, there has been a significant
increase in the use of fluoroscopy.3 5 During fluoroscopic procedures staff are exposed to both direct
and scattered radiation. Procedures that require long fluoroscopic screening times, such as
interventional radiology, cardiology and orthopaedic surgery, place the proceduralist at high risk of
radiation exposure. Orthopaedic surgeons must often remain close to the x ray beam during
procedures and cannot use distance to reduce radiation exposure.
In recent years, there is a rising alertness concerning the harmful effects of exposure of long term low
dose irradiation. In 2005 a report by Mastrangelo et al identified orthopaedic surgeons as having an
increased cancer risk.6 In 2010 Chou et al reported that the prevalence of cancer within female
orthopaedic surgeons was 1.9 fold greater than that of women in the general US population.7,8
Specific orthopaedic procedures such as closed intramedullary nailing of the femur are responsible for
a high level of scattered radiation

Miles Davis Kind of Blue is the single biggest selling jazz album ever made, selling over 5 million
copies, and was my favorite to learn about. It is known to be one of albums that convert people to
liking jazz styled music, even though it was created over fifty years ago. The most significant part of
the album to me was that it made such an impact on the jazz community and it was only made in
seven hours and all but only one of the tracks were first takes. What has stuck with me in the
documentary was the saying, The first thought is the best thought. I really appreciated this because the
artist stuck with their initial first gut feeling. The music was really innovative and most specifically,
the opening of So What , was completely improvised and then the riff takes off, allowing to be one of
the most iconic songs in jazz (in my opinion). The magic of music was truly created in this album
creation and led a different direction of jazz creation.

29. How Warfare Techniques Have Changed The Construction Of A...
There are many Warfare methods created for a castle. For instance, there is the Trebuchet, there are the
battlements (Merlins and Embrasures), the catapults, and much more! I ll be telling you how these
warfare techniques have changed the construction of the castles!!
The first thing I will be telling you about is the Trebuchet, A trebuchet is a catapult like engine which
uses a swinging arm to throw a projectile at the enemy. It is used to throw rocks (Boulders), dead
animals and humans, fireballs, and much more things. Trebuchets were apart of the attacking
defending team of the castles. This means that this would cost money because the people in the castle
would need to get supplies. The reason the Trebuchets influenced castle construction is that when the
people of the castle new that the enemies would have the trebuchets they would need to build higher
walls so when things start to fly at the castle they would want to have something that would block the
flying obstacles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Merlins and Embrasures are influenced construction is because when there was a war these would act
as little barriers for when archers would shoot, the defenders would duck because they would not be
hit by arrows, boulders, and more. This is why Merlin and Embrasures were influenced for castle

30. Oscar Wilde Satire In The Importance Of Being Earnest
Sofi Sosa
Professor Klein
British Literature
11 December 2017
Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest presents a satirical play that is used to emphasize the
insignificance and absurdity of certain rules within Victorian society. The main characters in the play
characterize Victorian high society; therefore, the criticism that arises from Wilde s exaggeration
extends further than the play itself. More specifically, Wilde exaggerates the consumption of food,
something that seems to be routine in everyday life. Wilde plays on this theme of presenting such an
ordinary event as an emotionally moving experience. He does this by making a connection between
the presentation of food and a characters feeling of emotion that is unusual during the Victorian
society.
During the Victorian society, it was considered disrespectful for members of the upper classes of
society to show conflicting and personal feelings. In public, any kind of overbearing emotions needed
to be prevented in order to maintain proper appropriateness. In response to these societal rules, Oscar
Wilde uses the characters exaggeration of their food intake to represent the emotions that they are
unable to show. By using food to mask and restrain unpleasant feelings like lust, aggression, and
stress, Wilde conveys the Victorian Era s dislike towards public displays of such emotions.
Through discussing one s feelings of sexual desires, rules of the political system regarding polite
conversation were

DM74LS47 BCD to 7 Segment Decoder/Driver with Open Collector Outputs
October 1988 Revised March 2000
DM74LS47 BCD to 7 Segment Decoder/Driver with Open Collector Outputs
General Description
The DM74LS47 accepts four lines of BCD (8421) input data, generates their complements internally
and decodes the data with seven AND/OR gates having open collector outputs to drive indicator
segments directly. Each segment output is guaranteed to sink 24 mA in the ON (LOW) state and
withstand 15V in the OFF (HIGH) state with a maximum leakage current of 250 µA. Auxiliary inputs
provided blanking, lamp test and cascadable zero suppression functions.

The internal NAND gate that generates the RBO signal has a resistive pull up, as opposed to a totem
pole, and thus BI/ RBO can be forced LOW by external means, using wiredcollector logic. A LOW
signal thus applied to BI/RBO turns off all segment outputs. This blanking feature can be used to
control display intensity by varying the duty cycle of the blanking signal. A LOW signal applied to LT
turns on all segment outputs, provided that BI/RBO is not forced LOW.

33. The Underlying Assumptions Of Consumer Sovereignty Theory
Consumer sovereignty is the theory that consumers are the main elements in the economy because
they exert ultimate control over the economy. Through their spending decisions, individual consumers
ultimately determine the quantities and qualities of goods and services produced and the availability of
these goods and services in time and space.
An example of consumer sovereignty is illustrated as follows: A drinks company introduces two types
of drinks in two continents: Drink A and Drink B. Drink A sells very well in Africa and Drink B in
Asia. Only the one that sells well in Africa (Drink A) will remain in production in Africa whilst the
one that sells well in Asia (Drink B) will remain in production in Asia. Continuing to produce Drink B
in Africa and Drink A in Asia is not economically viable as the consumers in these regions do not
prefer it. Thus, through their purchasing pattern, the consumers have influenced what goods continue
to remain in production.
The underlying assumptions of consumer sovereignty theory in an ideal market are:
i. That the consumers are rational and try to make choices that maximize their utility ii. That
consumers have all the information needed to make the optimal choice iii. That consumers are able to
purchase goods and services in a competitive marketplace
Based on the above, consumer sovereignty in healthcare would imply that society benefits at large
when healthcare providers and organizations compete to develop high quality products and

Well, well, well. Where do I even start?
Grades I guess overall, I had a pretty good year, in terms of academics. I ve kept all As throughout the
whole year, which in nice. I even got a perfect attendance award one time, (2nd Nine Weeks) which is
shocking, because I get sick really easily, and i m pretty sure I was absent. Hey, i m in no position to
complain. School is a relatively easy thing for me, grades, teachers, etc. Personally, I really enjoy
school. It s something i m good at, and something that I can understand easily. My only problem is
being surrounded by idiots who think they are entitled to more than the average student.

at my new school. I ll be changing schools because Master Sergeant is moving his jib to McLain, and
my mom is dating him so it s only natural i d go. The only goal i d have problems with would be
making new friends, because by now everyone has their own clicks and circles.
Conclusion In conclusion, my year was pretty good. I had fun on a few trips, I made excellent grades,
and I sorted out some issues I had at home. I had a lot of great moments that meant a lot to me, like
getting my dog and being with my friends and very few bad moments. I will be changing schools once
this custody thing is sorted out, and hopefully make new friends and enjoy the school. In short, I had a

SARS The Commonly Uncommon Cold
Acute respiratory illnesses are among the most common infectious diseases known to humans as they
account for nearly half of all diseases that plague our species. Of these respiratory illnesses, viruses
are the cause in 50 75% of reported cases. The Corona Virus known as SARS or Severe Acute
Respiratory Syndrome is one of the most recently highly publicized respiratory illness that has drawn
a surge of research since the first reported cases of the virus in Southern China in 2002. This publicity
was due to the disease s possible complications, which can lead to the death of the host organism.

When each sub genomic mRNA is translated into a single polypeptide, they will assemble with a
nucleocapsid protein in the cytoplasm to form helical nucleocapsids which are to be released from the
host cell to infect other cells (Brooks et al., 2007).
However, these steps occur only after the virus has entered the host s body. One way in which the
virus can enter the host body is through direct transmission by droplet contact from an infected
individual to an uninfected host. The virus can live for up to six hours in a wet droplet on the skin,
tissues, and other surfaces. However, once the droplets have dried the virus can live for only three
hours longer. A second manner of spreading is through the oral fecal route in which virus particles in
feces enter another organism through direct contact with the oral cavity. In this manner of spread, the
virus can survive up to four days in the feces (MedlinePlus: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome).
Thirdly, the virus can spread by airborne transmission, which is much more dangerous as small
particles can travel much farther and live much longer. This is a particularly important attribute of the
virus as it allowed it to spread worldwide as it is carried through the air of passenger airliners from
continent to continent. Once the airborne virus enters the respiratory tube where it remains for about 2
3 weeks, it infects ciliated epithelial cells in the nasopharynx and respiratory tract (Fauci et al.,2008).

36. The World Of The Great Crusade
You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months.
The eyes of the world are upon you is what was heard by nearly 160,000 allied troops. And for many,
it was the last thing they heard. On June 6th, 1944 one of the biggest invasions in history was
underway, Operation Overlord, more commonly known as the battle of Normandy. With the fall of
France in 1940, and the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, Germany s power seemed endless.
British Prime Minister Winston Churchill believed that even with the help of the United States, Britain
did not have the adequate forces to take back Europe and wished to avoid costly frontal assaults.
(Operation Overlord) In attempts to take back Europe, there were plans and operations such as
operation round up and operation sledgehammer that were put forward in 1942 and 1943 but neither
of them were deemed practical or likely to succeed by the British. In response, the Allies decided to
launch the invasion of French North Africa in 1942, the invasion of Sicily in 1943, and the invasion of
Italy. These invasions did not cause a major impact in the taking back of Europe but were able to
provide plenty of intangibles such as valuable experience in invasions and amphibious warfare, the
use of naval warfare combined with aerial warfare. The decision for a cross channel invasion which
became the battle of Normandy was taken at the Trident Conference in Washington in May 1943. With

37. Resistance To Change In Fahrenheit 451
The Resistance to Change in Fahrenheit 451
In the novel Fahrenheit 451, multiple abstract and concrete ideas are represented. Those ideas include
the use of the outsiders to represent the old society, the use of the mechanical hound to represent the
resistance to change, and the use of the atomic bomb to symbolize a new reality. However, these
specific examples of representation within the novel are highlighted due to the fact that they together
compose an allegory.
Within the novel, three main societies are expressed through the representation of various groups or
characters. An old society, a middle society, and a new society are all expressed in the book. The old
society is allowed to read and possess literature. The middle society has banned literature in order to
prevent anyone from being unhappy and disagreeing with it. As one essay written by Timothy E.
Kelley expresses, the middle society are a people, who willingly give up their right to be happy in
favor of protection from ever being unhappy (Kelley n.p.). The new society does not appear in the
book, but is instead being created.
The old society is represented by the group of outcasts that the main character Montag meets in the
third part of the novel after escaping the city. The outcasts have refused to accept the change that the
middle society as instituted instead choosing to leave their homes as they were unable to safely remain
there. The group is welcoming to Montag and even appear to be expecting him. The
