they play in running a country. Some of these roles consist of listening to the citizens,

were to change it so that it was more agreeable, I would change it so that it would
say, ...to most people, ten thousand hours of practice is required to achieve the

his claim, also giving the reader a false sense of power and control. He makes
everyone think that as long as they work hard and practice for 10,000 hours, they
will become experts, but as we all know, it is impossible to practice getting tall for
10,000 hours, because it just is not possible. And because Gladwell failed to
mention these unchangeable roadblocks, people like Skyler, who gave everything
110%, paid the price. Overall, I disagree with Malcolm Gladwell s 10,000 hour rule,
but think that it could be corrected so that it is more accurate. Evidence of
exceptional IQ, natural talent, and Height are great examples of why intellect, and
talent help people become experts at what they do without the need of hitting 10,000

My conflict is family based. It is about my elder sister s family. My elder sister

The Berlin Wall had been in place for 26 years. Increasing unrest was occurring in
Berlin, and at this crucial time Ronald Reagan, as several presidents had done
before him, traveled to the Brandenburg Gate, seen by most as the symbolical center
of the wall. On June 12, 1987, he then spoke of peace between the USSR and the
Western world, while motivating Berliners to help take down the wall and come
together as a nation once more. Throughout the speech Remarks at the Brandenburg
Gate , by Ronald Reagan, he makes use of imagery as well as appeals to ethos and
pathos to incite the German people to rise up and destroy the Berlin Wall, reunifying
Germany.
To commence, Reagan widely used appeals to ethos in the first portion of his speech
in order to get people listening believing in his speech. The first thing he says is,
Twenty four years ago, President John F. Kennedyvisited Berlin, and speaking to the
people of this city and the world at the city hall. Well since then two other
presidents have come, each in his turn to Berlin. And today, I, myself, make my
second visit to your city. Here, Reagan references the repetition of the past in order
to establish why what he s doing here, emphasizing his position as one of power
authority. Immediately after this, he states that We come to Berlin, we American
Presidents, because it s our duty to speak in this place of freedom. But I must
confess, we re drawn here by other things as well; by the feeling of history in this
city more than 500 years older than our own nation; by the beauty of the Grunewald
and the Tiergarten; most of all, by your courage and determination. In this quote, he
immediately references historical monuments in order to establish credibility to the
German people, showing them that he knows what he s talking about. He then goes
