Failure to manage a payroll effectively may cause many problems for the company and its
employees. It could mean loss of money, integrity, and trust between both parties.
Oftentimes, it takes many hours of work and manpower to get the job done. In certain cases,
effective payroll management is compromised by the lack of an effective system. Most companies
may have enough manpower and resources. However, with an effective information technology,
managing a payroll will be simpler, cost effective, timely and reliable.
One of the companies that use manual payroll system is the Arias Garments. It was established last
September 18, 1994 at #88 Bargy. Latag, Lipa City, under the management of Mr. Alex Arias
together with his wife Mrs. Anita Carol Katigbak. It started with only forty machines and ten
employees. The capital of Arias Garments is Php 500,000.00. By 1996, Arias Garments became the
subcontractor of Champan Garments. Champan Garments produce and transport products like Gap,
Banana Republic, Old Navy, Tommy, and Hilfinger.
As of now, Arias Garments have 176 machines and 100 employees (40 regular and 60
contractual). 8:00AM is the time in of employees, 4:00PM is the time out, and they consider
8:15AM as late. Employees who are late or either log out earlier than 4:00PM will have a
deduction on their wages (deduction is 0.61 per minutes late or under time). First offense, for late
and employees who under time, will be given

Feminist Manifesto
During these last thirteen weeks, I have discovered a lot about myself, not only as a student, but
as a feminist. Before taking this class, I knew that I wanted to be a feminist. I believed that
women should stand up and exercise their rights to be equal to men on every level. Be that as it
may, I lacked the education required to develop my own sense of feminismmy feminist manifesto, if
you will. When approaching the topic of feminism, every person needs to ask themselves a list
of questions: Who am I? Who do I want to be? What has influenced me as a person? How can I
help? These are the beckoning questions we, as developing and purposeful human beings, ask
ourselves every day, and these are the questions that will lead each and every person

What are the environmental impacts if the Suisun Bay Ghost Fleet? Well first we must split the
topic into four sections. First we must know what it is.The Suisun Bay ghost fleet are a group of
toxic ships near Benicia in the waters of the San Francisco Bay and Delta Estuary. They have
been polluting the waters since they have been abandon which adds up to decades. Many of the
ships in the ghost fleet are obsolete ships that were decommissioned and placed in storage in
Suisun Bay after World War II and the Korean War with the idea that they could be reactivated for
wartime use (San Francisco Baykeeper). At its high point, nearly 100 ships floated off the Benicia

Role of Financial Statements in Decision Making
TOPIC: ASESSMENT OF CREDIT RISK IN FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
THE ABSTRACT
This proposal study explores financial credit risk assessment. This is an important issue because
there is currently no standardized method used by financial institutions for the assessment of credit
risk. There are needs for a critical evaluation of the most popular credit risk assessment methods
such as the judgmental method, credit scoring and portfolio models along with limitations used.
Survey interview process is needed for confirming that credit risk assessment methods should be
combined for effective credit risk assessment. Accordingly, the study proposes a framework for
improving credit risk assessment, which combines the strengths of these methods and copes ... Show

Since information derived from self assessment can be useful in a wide range of activities from
strengthening risk management systems to formulating business strategy large differentials in
business management are likely to arise among financial institutions depending on the utilization
of this valuable information. As the Bank of Japan has introduced the Tracing Method of asset
assessment and loan losses in order to support financial institutions to maximize the use of their
own assessments as a management tool. The Tracing Method is used to observe changes in the
condition of individual assets in a time series and is one way to utilize financial institutions self
assessment of assets. The Bank conducted a follow up analysis in the recent on site examination to
analyze how many of the loans classified in the previous examination (1993 94) were later written
off and others in relation to financial losses from support by renunciation of claims, and losses from
sales of nonperforming loans to the Cooperative Credit Purchasing Company.
The empirical study using the Tracing Method suggests the following points of importance

Literature Review On The Sound Of Music
Anukaran Jain
The Sound of Music Review
What makes a musical appealing? Perhaps it is the melodious songs that leave a lasting
impression, or maybe its appeal lies in its dramatic acting that touches the hearts of its audience.
Nonetheless in the case of Sound of Music, by Howard Lindsay and Richard Crouse, this musical
spectacle proves itself by crafting a complete narrative, having an accomplished and versatile cast,
and strongly relating to the audience.
In order for a musical to capture the attention of its audience, the mix between music and acting
have to be perfect. The Sound of Music gets around this problem by flawlessly integrating songs
with the story to create a truly unique and complete narrative. This can be shown by the pairing
of at least one song with every scene. Furthermore each song adds to the existing storyline in
order to further refine it. For instance, in Scene 5, when Maria, played by Jill Christine Wiley,
meets the children of the Von Trapp family, she teaches them about music. Hence the song Do
Re me is sung by the characters. Not only is this song a part of the musical, but it also adds to
the performance by being used as a means to enlighten the children about the Sound of Music.
Another example is that of the song in scene 6, when Rolf and Lisel, played by Chad B Campbell
and Keslie Ward respectively, secretly meet up and sing and dance in the rain. Again, the piece,
Sixteen Going on Seventeen acts as an apparatus for adding to the plotline by

United States Involvement in Organized Conspiracy
United States Involvement in Organized Conspiracy
Was the war in Iraq a means to improve national security or a conspiracy to seek personal
satisfaction? On March 19, 2003 a war was waged under public scrutiny, to destroy the Baathist
regime headed by the Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein. This pivotal point in United States history
marked the beginning of public concern about political corruption within our government as a
means to convey personal satisfaction.
National security became the ground breaking concern in the United States after the tragic events
unfolded on September 11, 2001. Many questions were brought to the attention of the public eye,
such as why the September 11 attacks weren t diffused prior to the deaths of ... Show more content

With presidential insight overlooking Iraq s government with a fine tooth comb, the Bush
Administration decided to turn to public support as a means to increase the awareness in Iraq.
This attention was based off the defiance amongst Iraq, and the United Nation (UN) ability to
provide full access inside the country of Iraq. As public concern grew on the topic of Iraq, so did
the presidential tone and manner when comparing Iraq to the central front in the War on Terror.
This began a political push from leaders in and outside the U.S. to implement harsher penalties on
Iraq or any country that didn t obey UN weapons inspections (resolution 1441). The resolution 1441
stated that if UN inspection was ever detoured from leaders in the country would be subjected to
war. Another country siding with the Bush administration to dissimulate and destroy the Baathist
regime in Iraq was Britain and its Prime Minister Tony Blair.
After the invasion of Iraq occurred, documents that were obtained from Mr. Blair s office that
depicted President Bush already mind set on invading Iraq. Strictly emphasizing that no matter
resolution 1441 was compiled by the Iraqi regime or not. Even to go as far as to provoking war
with Iraq whether WMD was found or not during the UN inspections. Other CIA information
informed the U.S. people that 935 statements on Iraq s potential threat to national security were
falsely stated by the Bush Administration.

Process Of Negotiation Essay
Negotiation is a fundamental process used in resolving conflicts, making business deals, and in
managing working relationships with others. Negotiations occur for two reasons: (1) to resolve a
problem or dispute between parties, or (2) to create something new that neither party could do on
its own. Negotiating is a critical, every day skill that is essential anytime it is necessary to create
short term or long lasting agreements. For example: In 1996, Juwan Howard signed a contract
worth over $100 million with the Miami Heatand nearly became the highest paid NBA player
during the 96 97 NBA season. However, his contract was voided by the NBA citing that the Heat
exceeded its salary cap. On August 5, 1996 Howard returned to the folds... Show more content on

He was successful and over the next two season earned respect and his keep. As the next year
approached, as a free agent, he was eligible to move and work to gain more respect and power
through the process of being a free agent. The Miami Heat and President Pat Riley were looking
to get a stab at getting him in Miami. Juwan s Agent David Falk s Job was to get the most for his
client in the end no matter where he played. The Bullets had first crack at offers, ranging in the
high 8 figures and actuals would change as the bidding continued, but the Bullets were not the
only ones looking to Howard. The Miami Heat was also interested and would come into the play
with their own offers to be considered by Howard. During these proceedings, Alonzo Mourning
and many others were working their own deals with the Heat as well as the Bullets. During this
time Pat Riley indicated to Mourning that he would eventually be the highest player in Miami. This
statement would result in a complete unraveling of the most promised line up of players for this
NBA team and a potential of huge success.
As the bidding war continued, Juwan Howard would eventually sign on with the Heat for over
100 million over seven years and various other perks. Mourning on a July 16th interview
indicated his deal at over 100 Million. This caused NBA Officials to investigate over a potential
violation of salary cap because of the

The Importance Of Self-Respect To Me
Self respect to me, means standing up for who you are and what you believe in, when the
circumstances you are in are bringing you down, while respecting others backgrounds in the
process.
I feel like I have come a long way as a person, even though I am only 17 and still have a long way
to go in life and lots to learn. I feel like teenage years are meant for learning who you are as a
person, learning how to cope with other people, and what you want to accomplish in life. Forget
about high school classes like math, language arts or history. Yes those classes matter to pass or
to get a good grade in, but do they actually teach you how to be successful in life, or maybe teach
you lifelong skills you will need later in life? I bet you most students would tell you no to this
question. We find who we are when we get lost in the things we love doing and what we do with
the opportunities we have been given.
Your teenage years are all about you. You are learning on your own who you want to be and
what you want to be. A lot of studies out there say that teenagers or adolescents are actually more
hardworking than adults are. I believe this is true because most teenagers are involved in
school, work, sports, religious activities, and many more. I feel like I fit in this group. Ever since I
was 15, I feel like life has just been busy all the time (which is a good thing). This is because I am
actually taking advantage of all the opportunities I have been given as a teenager. I feel

The Life of Saint Anthony
The life of Saint Anthony was vividly pictured in the narration of his life by no other person than
St. Athanasius. In St. Athanasius description of St. Anthony, he explored all areas where St.
Anthony was modeled as a saint. In light of this, the thesis for this essay states that classical genres
to which St. Athanasius modelled the Life of St. Anthony is autobiography/biography, mythology
and adventures.
Throughout the description of St. Anthony s life, he conformed himself to these models. To this
end, this essay explores ways in which St. Anthony s life conformed to these models. One of the
first ways St. Anthony s life conformed to St. Athanasius model was his first step into asceticism
(Robert 26).
Asceticism was the first major decision St. Anthony took after the death of his parents. The death
of his parents left him with the burden of caring for his sister and taking care of the vast property
that belonged to the family.
However, while on his way to church, he was meditating a bible verse but on stepping into the
church, he was baffled when he heard the Gospel being read instructing whoever wants to serve God
to go and sell of his property and distribute the profits from the sale to the poor. He felt that the
verse of the Gospel was meant for him so he did exactly as he was instructed (Robert 26). After
selling off the property, he distributed the proceeds amongst the poor. St. Anthony went to church
again and after listening to the Gospel again, he said he

Batman Of Zur-En-Arrh Essay
The most important character of the entire story is Bruce Wayne, AKA Batman, AKA The Batman
of Zur En Arrh. Bruce Wayne is the main protagonist of the story. He is depicted as a rich,
intelligent, and successful businessman and crime fighter. While dressed as his alter ego, Batman
he fights the crime organizations of Gotham. In the story, Bruce is depicted in many different ways:
as Batman, and as The Batman of Zur En Arrh. The main difference between the two personas is
their costumes. The Batman is an all black and yellow suit, resembling a bat, while The Batman of
Zur En Arrh wears a suit of purple, red, and black trash. These two personas are very important to
Bruce s development as a character and they highlight important personal details. The Batman of...

While this may be true for new readers, the story does a fantastic job of preluding to future events.
For example, at the beginning of the story, Honor s role in the story is precluded. The
representation of time in the story can be confusing. Often flashbacks are incorporated in the
middle of scenes, and time jumps back and forth throughout the story. A particularly confusing
point is when Batman comes to after he is captured and drugged by The Black Glove.
Batman R.I.P. is very much a rebirth story. Here, we saw the rise, fall, and then rise again of
Batman. This story has many parallels to the story of Jesus Christ. At the beginning of the story
the reader sees Batman performing a typical Batman act of heroism (rise). It then progresses to
Batman being incapacitated by the Black Glove and him being reduced to The Batman of Zur En
Arrh (fall). Batman then infiltrates the Black Glove at Arkham Asylum, destroys Dr. Hurt and
rediscovers himself as the Batman (rise). This story truly highlights the progression of a tragic
hero. A tragic hero is one who faces a tragic set back on their quest for greatness. In many stories

The Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is a process for identifying the basic or causal factors that
underlie variation in performance. It should focus primarily on systems and processes, not on
individual performance. In order to get to the root of the problem, it is important to keep
professional skepticism, which requires a questioning mind. The goal is to identify potential
improvements in processes or systems that would tend to decrease the likelihood of such events in

Analysis of Alfred TennysonВґs Three Poems Essay
Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson of Aldworth and Freshwater is known as one of the
greatest poetic figure of the Victorian Age. Tennyson started writing poetry at an early age and
at the age of twelve he wrote a 6,000 line poem. His poems consisted of medieval legends, myths,
and everyday life and nature. When he was appointed laureate a position he held for 42 years, the
longest of any laureate, he wrote about historical events and one of his famous works was Ode on
the Death of Duke of Wellington. Three of his poems that I chose and stood out above all others
are Mariana, In Memoriam A.H.H., and Ulysses. Mariana was Tennyson s widely acclaimed in

In 1827 he enrolled in Trinity College to join his brothers Fredrick and Charles. During his teens
he had started to write poems with them which he later published under the title of Poems by Two
Brothers around the age of seventeen, mainly containing his own work in addition including some
work by his brothers. Insisted by his friends and father Tennyson entered one of his old works
entitled Timbuctoo for the Chancellor s Gold Medal which he won in 1829. When he entered his
poem for the Chancellor s prize he encountered Arthur Henry Hallam becoming Tennyson s closest
friend. In that same year they joined a secret society named the Apostles which after couples of
meetings later Tennyson abandoned. Tennyson started to focus on poetryrather then his studies and
Hallam who was also fond of writing poetry published a volume with Tennyson named Poems,
Chiefly Lyrical which was criticized but later on started to receive favorable reviews and one of the
poems named Mariana was highly praised.
In Mariana, Tennyson used objects and the environment to show how the character Mariana is
feeling. Mariana is living in a Moated Grange however her depression affects her views of her
surroundings. Throughout the entire poem all she thinks about is that her life is dreary, He cometh
not, she said; She said, I am aweary, aweary, I would that I were dead!

William Bridges Transition Model
Managing Transitions by William Bridges is a well constructed text written on Change
Management. Bridges begins by expressing the clear distinction between change and transition ,
with emphasis that change and transition are not interchangeable terms, but completely separate
processes. The concept, according to Bridges, is simple: Change is situational, it is eventful,
visible and tangible. Change is the WHAT. Transition is psychological, a continuous process that
happens over a span of time, it is internalized by people. Transition is the HOW. Transition is
internal, it is what happens to the person mentally as they process the change.
Change is situational: the move to a new site, the retirement of a founder, the reorganization of the
roles on the team, the revisions to the pension plan.
Transition is psychological: a three phase process people go through as they internalize and come to
terms with the details of the new situation that the change brings about.
Bridges says that these phases have no sequential order of occurrence and the people will go
through transition at their own pace. It is not uncommon for an organization to be in more than one
phase in the transition process at a given time. This simply depends on how each team has handled
the change, some people may have already started the Neutral Zone while others are still lagging
behind in the Ending phase. Bridges Transition Model is illustrated in figure 1.1.

Red # 40 Dyes
In the United States and in most of the world food dyes are exceedingly common. In addition to
this, they have been brought into question as being dangerous for human and environmental health.
From general observation and knowledge about this topic I knew that Red #40 dye (Allura Red
AC) is at the height of this controversy. After some initial research, I discovered more information
on Azo dyes, their effect on the environment, as well as wastewater treatment used to decontaminate
water containing these dyes. This led to my interest on the topic of Electrochemical Advanced
Oxidation Processes (EAOPs) as a fairly recent solution to environmental issues regarding
contaminants in water. I was curious to see how these processes work, as well as... Show more

This is largely because they are relatively cheap and simple to manufacture. Furthermore, they
produce vibrant shades of color and are reasonably soluble in water (Liu, Wan, Nan, n.d.).
However, these dyes are now manufactured at such a large scale that they bring up numerous
health and environmental concerns. In recent years azo dyes, especially Allura Red AC, have
been connected to child hyperactivity, which also raises concerns over other potentially toxic
effects they can have on living organisms ( FDA Probes Link , 2011). This is only amplified by
the fact that azo dyes such as Allura Red AC and Azo Grenadine are also especially recalcitrant to
conventional methods of wastewater treatment. Research on this topic led me to an article on
electrochemical advanced oxidation processes and their potential as a solution to mineralizing
especially recalcitrant compounds in the environment, Decontamination of Wastewaters
Containing Synthetic Organic Dyes by Electrochemical Methods: A Review. This led me to
pursue the investigation in my extended essay on the topic of electrochemical advanced
oxidation processes and the effect they have on azo dyes such as Allura Red AC and Azo
Grenadine. In order to evaluate the effect of this process, I made the decision to do a comparison
of the two dyes. This led me to the question, How does the effect of electrochemical advanced
oxidation processes vary between Allura Red AC and Azo

Social Hierarchy In The Middle Ages
Middling Problems
Kings are the ones who lead and conquer. Lords are the ones who rule and sit barking orders to
the lower classes. Knights are the ones who follow their code of honor, chivalry at its finest.
Peasants are the ones who work until their bodies give out just to provide for their family. These
are words that depicted the social hierarchy during the Middle Ages or rather, the Dark Ages. An
age where not everyone is given the chance to elevate to a new status, where the oppressed stays
oppressed while the aristocrats sits in their fine houses and live lavishly. But...only the men get
to exercise their power, as the women during this period lay dormant, sitting in their chairs as if
they were just glorified display pieces showcased by their husbands for all to see. It s even worse if
they were peasants, as they were only expected to give childbirth and care for the family while
working out in the fields.
Meanwhile, in the current period, everyone is given a chance to increase their standing in life.
Blood inheritance holds little to no meaning anymore, only skill and talent will let you prosper in
life. This sounds like a good thing, but for me it feels like no change has happened at all. ... Show

Peasants revolt at the unfair actions of the nobility. Uprisings occur because of foreign

This week the essay that made the largest impact on me was Marketing to Tweens Objectifies
Women by Jeremy Merkel. The claim is apparent that after reading the title that young girls are

young girls and teens. As a mother to three girls I have kept my girls from these types of stores.
Which is easy to do when you live 280 miles from the nearest mall with any of the stores
mentioned in the article. The rules for my girls were and are they can were light colored eye

Research Paper
William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was one of the most important activist in the early 20th
century. He was born February 23, 1868 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. In 1885 Du Bois
came across his first encounter with the Jim Crow laws. He went to Harvard to receive his
masters and before completing his masters he was offered an opportunity to study abroad in Berlin.
Du Bois is known for many of his accomplishments such as being one of the most important civil
rights activist, professor of sociology, historian, writer, and editor.
In 1884 Dubois mother passed away forcing him to find a job. The principal of his high school
helped him find a job in the local mill. In 1885 DuBois was given a scholarship to attended Fisk
University in Nashville, Tennessee, there is where he first encountered the Jim Crow law. In order
for him to get through school money wise, he had to help teach others in the more poor areas of
Tennessee during his summer breaks. The experience of the Jim Crow law which legalized
segregation between blacks and whites, is what caused him to want to become an activist.
In 1885 Dubois was in Berlin studying for two years and came back to the United States eager to
study African Americanhistory. Dubois attended Harvard to work hard on his paper for The
Suppression of the African Slave Trade. In 1895 Dubois was the first African American to graduate
from Harvard with a Ph.D. He began teaching at Clark

John Smith In Pocahontas
John Smith a widely known, beloved, Disney character in the movie Pocahontas. However, he is
also an important and influential person in history. Both of these characters differ greatly from
real life, to a movie character. In the Disney movie, John Smith is shown as Caucasian, slender,
with blond hair and blue eyes. ( John Smith ). He is also shown in an age range from about 20 25.
Socially, John Smith is shown to have many friends in the movie as well as being brave, and
fighting for the rights of the Indians. Throughout the movie John Smith is shown to have only one
motivation: to fight for good by protecting the Native Americans. From all of this information, and
the events in the movie, I felt that sympathized with him. He was the clear protagonist in the movie
and fought for good. Even though John Smith is painted as a good person in Pocahontashe was

Little is known about John Smith s real appearance but that he was about 30 years old, and is
depicted as being short with a full beard. In real life John Smith was known for his abrasive
attitude, and was even almost killed multiple times. John Smith had a trade agreement with the
Native Americans for some time, and was mostly friendly, but later in his life turned on them
and put many into slavery or killed them. Not only did John Smith not have many close allies, he
also was described as an [Ambitious] unworthy and [vainglorious] [fellow] ( Captain Smith ).
John Smith was also widely known as someone who stretched the truth quite a bit in his stories. In
fact most of his documentations were proved to be false. After finding out what John Smith was

The Bear Minimum
Statement of Facts
Big Bear Power is a public utility company that leases a combustion turbine from Goliath Co for a
10 year non cancelable term. The lease agreement is signed on December 15, 2004 and Big Bear s
right to use the turbine begins on January 1, 2005. They have the following three transactions that
need to be analyzed under ASC 840, Accounting for Leases, to determine whether costs or potential
costs associated with the provision should be included in minimum lease payments: 1. Fees paid in
connection with negotiating lease agreement and legal fees. Big Bear pays Stipe, Berry, Mills and

The predefined criteria needed for Big Bear would be the clarification of what a material adverse
change in their financial statements would entail. However, the loan documents do not clarify this

Big Bear has failed to meet condition number three and therefore the maximum amount that they

Christian Worldview Paper 1
Christian Worldview
Liberty University
Steps in Scientific Method
The scientific method is a tool that enables a person to seek out new knowledge, or correct and
integrate new knowledge. It is composed of eight individual steps: which start out with defining a
question, gathering information and resources, form an explanatory hypothesis, test the hypothesis
by performing an experiment and collecting data in a reproducible manner, analyze the data,
interpret the data and draw conclusions that serve as a starting point for new hypothesis, publish
results, and ends with a retest. The steps can be grouped into four different essential elements:
operation, observation, model, and utility function.

116).
In order for a person to accurately use the scientific method to gather knowledge and truth from
the Bible a person should have a general Christian worldview. A Christian worldview is any
ideology, philosophy, theology, movement or religion that provides an overarching approach to
understanding God, the world and man s relations to God and the world. (Noebel, D, 1995). In a
biblical worldview the word of God is infallible. The Bible is the foundation of everything
Christians say and do. A person who is living in a secular worldview has beliefs filled with
selfish, fallen world ideas that seductively appeal to the desires of one s flesh. A person with a
Christian worldview already has the answer within their heart. So a person with a Christian
worldview is led to look for truth within the Bible which is revealed to them through revelation.
Without the proper worldview, people will be unable to find truth and knowledge within the Bible.
In looking through a lens it is important to consider the lens that the material was originally created
from and intended for. The scientific method will continue to remain valid, only if analogous
worldviews are shared.
The Christian worldview is compatible with the Scientific Method. The Christian Worldview
promotes faith in works and the Scientific Method promotes human intellect to search through
God s works. According to Draper (2003), The history of Science is not a mere record of isolated
discoveries; it is a narrative of

How Did Abraham Lincoln s Impact On Society
Abraham Lincoln
Traditional and new media effected the way citizens voted since the age of the telegraph. Invented
by Samuel Morse in the early 1800s, telegraphs transmitted electrical signals over a wire attached
with a code using the English alphabet across lines. One of the first presidents to use the telegraph
excessively was Abraham Lincoln. During that time, the telegraph was around for over 17 years
before Congress would finance Samuel Morse s telegraph. With the new technology and a telegraph
office in the War Department within distance of the White House, Lincoln would begin sending

Howl By Allen Ginsberg Critical Analysis
Poetry may be defined in many ways: for different people arising from different backgrounds,
(levels of education, beliefs, culture, and family), poetry may be viewed in many perspectives that
suit their familiarity of understanding. For T.S. Eliot, poetry is an art which is controlled to go
beyond reporting feelings of moments, into something extended. The extended feeling, that now
has meaning beyond just an expression for emotion, is then able to live for itself, separate from its
creator. Hence, poetrybecomes an escape from emotion and personality as the personality that it
derives from gives birth to something independent. Eliot is right to define poetry as something
representing an extended feeling, as the beauty of poetry is to convey meaning from something
unpoetic such as pure madness; however, he failed to include that to give meaning an
independence, to a feeling is to incorporate the poet s psychology. It takes a poet s intelligence to
be able to transfer the unexplainable to something understood by others. A poem is not just a
medium of escape, it is an extension of the poet s psyche as their experiences and knowledge of
their world is what helps them craft and define the shape of their work.
Howl, by Allen Ginsberg is an example of how a turning loose of emotion becomes not just an
escape of emotion, but an expression for his critiques against the American Society in the 1950 s.
Throughout the collection of poems, the minimal use of poetic conventions

How Does Media Affect Body Image
Body image is how a person feels about their physical appearance. Someone with a negative body
image has a distorted view of his or her body and often feels shame, anxiety and are more likely
to suffer from low self esteem and depression. People with a poor body image have a greater
chance of developing an eating disorder. Which then can lead to drastic changes of their bodies
using dangerous methods such as plastic surgeries and severe eating disorders in order to meet
societal ideals. Today people feel that present ideals are pressuring them to conform, in any way
possible to get the ideal body, these pressures cause body dissatisfaction and self esteem
issues. The media is causing body image issues due to the lack of diversity and realistic body
representation, when exposed to western media young people are more likely to have eating
disorders, participate in fad diets, or drastically change their bodies with plastic surgeries. The
ideal woman s body type has taken many forms, but these fads show that ideals change with the
eras. These ideals are directly influenced by society, art and media. When trends changed it
typically was replaced by thinner body shapes causing the introduction of methods of weight
controls. Before Photoshop, women in the late 1800s used to corset their bodies to get the ideal
shape, which then was fuller figured but a ridiculously tight corseted waists. During this time,
another female body image was the Gibson girl a soft, supple, dainty female with a frame defined

This plan must be developed in advanced so that the trainer is prepared for the information that
must be taught including: the content to be taught; how much time is required for each lesson;
what method will be used to teach the information; what type of training materials are needed; the

Working Memory Inattentional Blindness
In the second phase of the experiment, the task and stimuli were the same, but following this
phase, all of the subjects reported having seen the patterns. ERPs recorded over the occipital
pole differed in amplitude from 220 to 260 msec for the pattern stimuli compared with the
random arrays regardless of whether subjects were aware of the patterns. At subsequent latencies
(300 340 msec) however, ERPs over bilateral occipital parietal areas differed between patterns
and random arrays only when subjects were aware of the patterns. Finally, in a third phase of the
experiment, subjects viewed the same stimuli, but the task was altered so that the patterns became
task relevant. Here, the same two difference components were evident but were followed by a
series of additional components that were absent in the first two phases of the experiment. We

automatic contour integration whereas the difference at 300 340 msec reflects visual awareness,

focused attention is inattentional blindness, the failure to notice unexpected objects when attention

A.) What are the issues and conclusions of the article?
The issue is that technology is becoming more advanced and robots are becoming more intelligent,
putting the existence of human beings in danger.
The conclusion is we must prevent technology getting too advanced and too dangerous and we
must tell this to inventors and creators of technology.
B.) What reasons are given that support those conclusions?
Scientific developments has caused problems, like antibiotics being overused and leading to
stronger and more deadly viruses.
Atomic science leads to more bombing and destruction, harming plenty of innocent people.

In contrast, water resources planners have often trivialized green water management in rain fed
agriculture (Liu, Zehnder, Yang 2009). Green water management often comes in the form of
effective use of rainfall (Liu, Zehnder, Yang 2009). Green Water management has great
conservation potential. For example, according to Liu, Zehnder, Yang (209), strengthening
rainfall management could possibly double or even quadruple maize yields in sub Saharan
Africa. Rainwater harvesting is a promising approach for green water management in the
semiarid tropics of Asia and Africa (Liu, Zehnder, Yang 2009). Experiments with rainwater
harvesting increased yield by a factor of 2 to 3 in Burkina Faso, Kenya, Niger, Sudan and
Tanzania as compared to the current yield levels (Liu, Zehnder, Yang 2009). Additional spending
in many of the rain fed areas allowed more poor people to rise above the poverty line than would
be expected with investments in irrigation infrastructure (Liu, Zehnder, Yang 2009). Green water
management is not only limited to infrastructure and management technologies, as biotechnological
advances can also be helpful (Liu, Zehnder, Yang 2009). For example, a hybrid New Rice for
Africa, which was developed to grow in the uplands of West Africa, produces more than 50% more

In truth, there are millions who still live in a poor household and this is even when there is at
least one occupant that is in a full time job, these people are still in poverty because wages are not
keeping up with the rate of infliction. In recent years the number of household that are working
and that are still in poverty has actually increased. Although in recent years the number of
households that have no one working in them and that were in poverty has declined, so it can be
seen that in some cases work is not the route out of poverty. Buck, (2008)
The more you look into this subject in depth the more you see that there seems to be no way out
of poverty even if the person is working in a full time job. The state of the nation report which
was done by Alan Milburn suggests that work is no longer the way out of poverty because of the
rise in day to day living which has been rising for many years, but the minimum wages has not
being keeping up with this rise. Alan Milburn believe that to help with the minimum wage, the

Chinese Immigrants in America Essay
After the first wave of Chinese immigrants arrived in the United States in the early 1840s during
the California Gold Rush, many Chinese people continued to travel across the Pacific, escaping
poor conditions in China with hopes and ambitions for a better life in America. Many more
Chinese immigrants began arriving into the 1860s on the Pacific coast for work in other areas
such as the railroad industry. The immigrants noticed an increasing demand for their labor because
of their readiness to work for low wages. Many of those who arrived did not plan to stay long, and
therefore there was no push for their naturalization. The immigrants left a country with thousands of

The growth of Chinese jobs in the California labor market did not stop there. Because of the hard
times, employers found it especially attractive that the Chinese workers would work for long
hours with low pay. Huge losses hit California in 1876 with a drought; this led to unemployment
across the coast including for the Chinese. Many white investors, however, used the Chinese as
scapegoats for this statewide depression, fueling the anti Chinese fire and leading to more
hostility towards Chinese workers. The firsthand account of Lee Chew, a Chinese immigrant to
America in the early 1880s, shows the disparities between the white man s perception of Chinese
laborers and reality as well as the hostility that arose as a result. When Lee first arrived in
America, he started working as a housekeeper for a family in California, being paid $3.50 a week
and being able to keep 50 cents afterwards. For Lee and other Chinese immigrants, they believed
the hostility arose from jealousy in the labor market, because he [Chinese worker] is a more
faithful worker than one of their people, [and they] have raised such a great outcry about Chinese
cheap labor that they have shut him [Chinese worker] out of working on farms or in factories or
building railroads or making streets or digging sewers. Lee s testimony shows the common ripple
effects of the working restrictions white men imposed on the Chinese immigrants looking for jobs.

As protons move through liquid water, they ionize or excite atoms or molecules of the matter
(water) and deposit a dose or energy along their path. If a charged particle has a greater energy
and moving faster, it has a lower tendency to lose energy along its path in per unit path length.5
Similarly, at higher energy, protons move relatively faster and thus ionize and excite fewer
molecules, therefore, its stopping power is lower.5 However, as their energy decrease, protons
transfer more energy to the medium and the stopping power would be higher as shown in Figure
1. Consequently, the stopping power or LET depends on its energy.5 The energy loss increases
towards the end of the range, reaches a maximum, which is called the Bragg peak, and abruptly
drop to zero before the protons stop. The Bragg peak occurs because the interaction cross section of

Biomarkers are natural indicators in the body that respond noticeably to the presence of disease.
By measuring the responses of biomarkers, oncologists detect the cancerous cells before
recommending expensive procedures, rather than immediately resorting to these procedures. One
of these biomarkers that responds to the presence of cancerous cells is microRNA. MicroRNAs
are molecules that are involved in the cell life cycle and therefore the progression of cancerous
cells. A study in cancerpatients was conducted to compare the accuracy of screening with
microRNAs to screening with LDCT. Observing microRNAs did not prove to be as accurate at
identifying cancer as LDCT, but since using microRNAs is a less expensive process, it can
identify patients that should undergo LCDT testing. Screening with microRNA testing initially
would decrease the number of patients paying for LCDT testing. Another biomarker that can be
observed in response to cancer is ct DNA. Ct DNA refers to fragments of DNA from tumors
found circulating in the blood stream. A recent study indicated that observing ct DNA could have

Explain How Business And Business Education Was Handled...
ePortfolio Assignment
Throughout this assignments I will discuss how business and business educate was handled
during the formal Regency period. This period took place from 1811 1820. During this period
there were many gender rolls, norms, and values for both men and women to follow. The specific
work that I will be analyzing is Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austin originally wrote this work. A film
was then developed in 2005.
The main roll of men during this period was to handle business and earn money to support the
family. The men in the film are always formally dressed and ready to conduct business
representing their social class. Men during this period were well educated to conduct business and
a groomed to become the patriarch of the family, as they got older.
The women during the Regency period had far different rolls then men. In the film you often see
the women dressed trying to impress the male characters using garments such as ribbons and fancy
dresses to make them appealing to men. The norm for women at this time was for the man to
support the female. Therefore the women did not focus on business or earning money. Women s
main goal was to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is a strong female matriarch in the film and plays into the female gender norms during the
period. She believes deeply that women are to master the arts to truly please their husband and
be a suitable wife. In this scene Lady Catharine is questioning Elizabeth about her and her fellow
sisters. She is asking her if they are well educated in the arts. Lady Catharine is greatly displeased
when Elizabeth informs her that they are not well educated in the arts. At this point Lady
Catharine is judging the Bennet s social class and sees them unsuitable to please a husband. She is
overall bewildered by the sister s upbringing and does not understand. This scene shows how strong
the norms of society are and how they affects social class during this

Helium Research Paper
Helium is a colorless, tasteless, and odorless gas. It has some very unique properties. Helium has
the lowest boiling point of all the elements at 268.9C, or 452.0F. Its freezing point is 272.2C, or
458.0F. Helium is the only gas that can not be turned to a solid by lowering its temperature. To
make heliumsolid you have to increase its temperature. When helium is at a temperature of 271C, it
is a liquid but it has superfluidity properties. This means that liquid helium flows it doesn t exert
friction and it can leak through containers. Helium is also an inert gas, it doesn t react chemically
with any element or form bonds. Helium floats because it is lighter than the air around us. A liter
of helium weighs way less than a gram. It only weighs 0.18 grams. A liter of the air around weighs

It may be funny, but research shows it is not all that safe. When you breath in helium it displaces
the air in your lungs and there is no way to get oxygen. This is dangerous because it could cause
your oxygen levels to drop very low. When your oxygen levels drop you could become very
dizzy and disoriented. It could also cause an abnormal heartbeat, unconsciousness, or even death.
This is all if you just breathe it normally. If you breathe helium deeply, or directly from a
container that is pressurized, it could cause a blockage of a blood vessel which could lead to
having a stroke, seizures, or death. It could also burst the air sacs in your lungs. In that case you
die because you would drown in your own blood.
Helium is the second most abundant element in the universe, but there is a shortage on earth. In
one of the main helium reservoirs in the U.S. there was only 10 12 billion cubic feet of helium
left in it, as of 2012. Even though this seems like a lot, we use around 2 billion cubic feet of
helium per year. So technically that reservoir would be getting very very close to

Empathy Is The True Catalyst For Understanding
Empathy is the true catalyst for understanding. For the past several years, my Spanish department
has been working toward rewriting our curriculum to include comprehensible input and storytelling
about complex issues like immigration, social injustice and identity. While I have always told
stories about myself, I ve realized that compelling and interesting stories about real and even
fictional people impact my students exponentially. When my students hear Gaby Moreno singing
about an Ave que Emigra, they feel her longing for Guatemala, her home country, in a way that I
can t describe through a lecture. One of the high points of my teaching career occurred several
years ago when a particularly racist student wrote in his final essay about... Show more content on

When I signed up for French, I naturally but incorrectly assumed that I would learn about all things
French. But my second language study started as many high school students did: it was the mid 80
s and my high school teacher was using the audiolingual method. The class consisted of the
arduous task of memorizing vocabulary, conjugating verbs, and decoding simple sentences with
no cultural context whatsoever. While I didn t find French to be particularly difficult, I wasn t
enthusiastic about rote memorization. When I was given an opportunity to drop French in order
to join a select choir, I didn t think twice. My mid 1980 s high school didn t really push second
language study, so I figured that this was the end of my foray into language study. Perhaps it just
wasn t for me...
However, by the end of my freshman year, I had a new interest in language and culture. This
interest was not fueled by academic curiosity but rather by the simple desire to connect and
understand others. I had begun dating a Mexican American boy and his family intrigued me. My
boyfriend s mother, Doris, and father, Enrique, met in the 60 s during Enrique s annual migration
from Mexico to southern Missouri as a harvest worker. The two had met, fallen in love, and moved
to Mexico where they started their family. Four children and 12 years later, they returned to the
U.S. to enroll their kids in public school. What

Analysis Of St. Joseph Hall
At Fontbonne University, the freshman dorm is called St. Joseph hall. For three different days
and times, I observed the commons area of St. Joseph hall, which is located on the first floor.
When you first walk into St. Joseph hall, you notice that there are two sides with a walkway
down the middle. On one side there are two flat screen TV s surrounded by sofas with a table in
the middle. This area is carpeted with a blue, green, and purple pattern. It is worn down and thin.
On the other side of the Jo commons, there are four computers and a printer. There are also sofas
and chairs on this side. There is florescent lighting throughout, but most of the time it is
unneeded because the walls are giant windows. There are lots of scuff marks on the white wall
paint (a lot of fixing up needed in this area). The back wall reads Welcome to Griffin Nation so as
one walks in they can see it.
I noticed that security played a large role in the layout as well. Starting at ten P.M., the school
security guards walk through the commons and each floor of the dorm to make sure that people
are safe and making good choices. As I sat in the commons at three in the morning taking notes on
my laptop, one guard pointed out my studiousness and asked if I would be pulling an all nighter. It
was a nice gesture, but I wanted to stay focused on my notes. Another thing I noticed when entering
the St. Jo building (even if just entering the commons) is that you need a personal key card to get
in. You

Native American Mascots Research Paper
Sports teams across the country are all represented by a mascot. A mascot is used in a variety of
ways, but mainly to represent a team s identity and motivate both players and fans alike to bring
out the competitive spirit. Many teams are represented with normal names and themes, while
some are more controversial such as the Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Blackhawks, Cleveland
Indians, Florida State Seminoles, Atlanta Braves, and Washington Redskins (to name a few). A
prickly topic for years, even decades the usage of Native American mascots continues to strike
controversy in fans, players, alumni, as well as disinterested fans. Depending on who you talk to,

The reality is that most people, especially fans and some Native Americans themselves want to
keep these names. Again, depending on who you talk to keeping these names pay tribute and
honor those who have come before us. An example of this is the team Atlanta Braves. When you
think of the meaning brave, you see a person who is courageous and a person who will face and
endure danger or pain. Without teams using these names, people would not know the history or
background of some Native American tribes. We can say the actions of some mascots may be
questionable or over the top at times but they are not intended to poke fun at the Native Americans
for their culture or beliefs, they are only used for the spirit of the game and to get the crowd
pumped up. In my own opinion, I do not think Native American mascots should be discontinued.
Discontinuing these symbols or nicknames would bring a lot of pain to sponsors, supporters, the
sports club, and its fans. Bottom line, the teams that utilize these Native American themes or
symbols do not utilize them in a stereotypical or racial way. In fact, they mascots are used in a way
to honor Native Americans and to remember them

Essay on Terry Kay’s To Dance With The White Dog
Questionable Existence in Terry Kay s To Dance With The White Dog
In Terry Kay s novel, To Dance With The White Dog, the main character Sam Peek befriends a
snow white dog. The dog, affectionately called White Dog by Sam, helps to save Sam s life
many times. She is spoken of throughout the book by Sam s children as well as by Sam in his
journal entries. The main question throughout the book asks if White Dog is in fact real or is she
just an illusion? There are strong facts all through the book that support White Dog s realistic nature.
Many facts throughout the duration of this book support the theory of White Dog s existence. At
the beginning of the book no one but Sam can see White Dog; however, as the book ... Show more

This makes a very straightforward clue that White Dog is in fact real.
Although many facts support White Dog s existence, there are some which make White Dog seem
magical. One of the strongest suggestions in the book that supports this is the fact that White Dog
does not bark and the neighborhood dogs do not bark in response to him. Sam even admits this
oddity to him self as he lies in the hospital after his near death experience. Neelie makes a point to
the family about ghost dog never barking, during her visit with Sam at the hospital. After her visit
Sam begins to think back on his experience with White Dog and realizes I ve never heard White
Dog bark (Kay 89). Another fact that questions the realism of White Dog is how he escaped
from the house to get help for Sam. This fact is only mentioned by Sam, and is easily dismissed
by the chance that he accidentally left a door open. Towards the end of the book Sam tells his
youngest son James his thoughts about White Dog. He states to James That was your mama (Kay
177). This, however, does not disprove that White Dog is real, it is merely his feelings.
In the book, To Dance With The White Dog, White Dog s existence is neither confirmed nor
denied. The author leaves it to the reader to come to his or her own conclusions about the realism
of White Dog. The book merely gives context clues and abstract ideas to the audience so that they
can derive an idea. The reader can

The Sound of Music Essay
The Sound of Music
In 1965 Robert Wise presented the world with his smashing box office hit film, The Sound of
Music. Over time it has become known as one of the most loved and well known musicals of all
time. Shortly after its release it won many Academy awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Sound
, Best Adapted Score, Best Film Editing, Best Film Musical, Best Color Cinematography, and Best
Costume design (Freiden par3). The movie is based upon the true story of the VonTrapp family and
allows its audience to relive their family experience as well as their flight from Nazism just before
the outbreak of World War Two.
So why is it that even today, The Sound of Music is still the most popular... Show more content on

The movie leads us to think that the root of Nazism lay solely with Germany, and that it was evil
Germans under Hitler who overthrew innocent Austria and turned it into a fascist nation. Because
most Americans are not history buffs on Austria s role in the Anschluss, we tend to believe that
The Sound of Music, or perhaps even Schindler s List, presents us with completely factual
evidence. In a sense, we have allowed this movie to be a history book that tells the tale of the
Anschluss. Because German Nazism is presented so negatively in the movie, of course an
American audience will side with the Austrians who are so innocently represented by the VonTrapp
family. No one else is there to tell the audience any differently.
In the minds of the American audience, The Sound of Music creates a story of an innocent Austria
trying to escape the evils of Nazi Germany. The movie was correct in showing that many Austrians
wanted to remain Austrian vs. becoming German, but the overwhelming majority of Austrians at
the time were actually fully supportive of the coming Anschluss. On March 13, 1938, Hitler entered
Vienna in a triumphant motorcade. Thousands of ecstatic Austrians greeted him with unbridled
enthusiasm, waving Nazi flags and screaming his name (Perez par22). Perhaps the VonTrapp family
didn t welcome Hitler with such enthusiasm, but the movie leads us to

Character Analysis Of Victor Frankenstein
Within this novel, our main character is the scientist Victor Frankenstein. His curiosity and will to
make the dead, well become alive, is what drives him to want to succeed. His never ending
curiosity of the fundamentals of the human body has kept him pushing further, even losing sleep
and his health decline. He strives to feed that will, and when he does in fact succeed, he is
astonished at to what he has created, but appalled by its looks and inhuman demeanor.

Creationism Vs Genesis History
For centuries there has been a feud that almost every scientist has been part of; the creation vs
evolution controversy. Ever since 1859, when Darwin wrote On the Origin of Species, the
argument on whether Earth was created by a higher being, or just evolved from atoms, has been
one of the most discussed topics. Of late, the evolutionary standpoint has been discussed more the
creationist standpoint. However, Is Genesis History? is a documentary that brings light to the
creationist standpoint. Is Genesis History, proves there is a higher being out there, known as God,
that actually created the earth in 6 days, and the earth is only 4,000 years old! With the Bible, we

Was the world created in six days? The answer to that question is yes, a most definite yes. Just take
a look at the Grand Canyon; layers of sediment are proof of how the flood brought different layers
of dirt. As you go farther down the Grand Canyon, you can see the different levels of sedimentary
rock. You can see that the different layers line up with each other, almost as if someone drew a
line and said: OK no more shales, now it is time for phosphates. Is Genesis History? explained,
that if the water was to have carved out the Grand Canyon, there would be more signs of erosion
between the different layers of sedimentary rocks, the farther you went down the Canyon.
However, that s not the case; the top layers of the Grand Canyon are actually more eroded the
bottom layer of rocks. The top layers of the Grand Canyon share the same type of sedimentary
rock as most of the top layer of North America. Sediment was carried by the flood and then that
sediment was carved by the water draining into the ocean. The Grand Canyon, one of the most
iconic natural landmarks, is a living proof that the world was created in six days.
Another interesting proof of the Great Flood, which in turn proves Genesis is telling the truth, are
fossils. There is a layer of rock that is spread all over North America, known as the Nautiloid Bed.
This layer of rock

Comparing The And Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
Compare the use of secrets with in the two main characters of the both novels Victor Frankenstein
and Dr Jekyll (including Mr Hyde)
Both the novels are based around secrets. Victor and Dr Jekyll both have a big secret that happens
in the novel. Both the main characters have a thirst for knowledge leading to their biggest secrets
occurring. Their scientific experiments don t go as planned and these novels teach us as the reader
you can t keep secrets as the truth will always come out.
Victor Frankenstein believes he can create life but for the time of the novel people were very
secretive and didn t like change, they didn t like people knowing their business. The people were
not open to the idea of new creations. Many people were religious so they believed God made life.
The same with Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Jekyll kept his lab very secretive as he knew people would
be against his experiments or would not believe in them. Victor is very interested in the key of
life it was the secrets of heaven and earth I desire to learn . Victor wants to know the unknown, he
is very interested to search for the secrets of life. The world was to me a secret which I desire to
divine . The curiosity shown by Victor is ultimately what drives him to try and discover the
secret of life. Shelley uses the word divine to mean to figure out , as he searches for a way in which
one can create life, like the way God creates life.

Why Do Tattoos Should Be Judged
Tattoos tell a story about who a person is and what they stand for. Some people see past the true
story and judge by what they see. People get judged for getting tattoos because they can prove a
person is a delinquent. Tattoos should be accepted and not judged because they are a way for
people to express themselves, show artistic freedom and creativity, and show religious views. First
of all, tattoos show self expression. For example, people get tattoos of quotes or designs that have a
meaning behind them. For instance, a picture on google has a tattooquote that says but without the
dark, we d never see the stars. An example of a design is that a man I know has a tattoo next to his

It could mean loss of money, integrity, and trust between both parties. Oftentimes, it takes many hours of work and manpower to get the job done. In certain cases, effective payroll management is compromised by the lack of an effective system. Most companies may have enough manpower and resources. However, with an effective information technology, managing a payroll will be simpler, cost effective, timely and reliable. One of the companies that use manual payroll system is the Arias Garments. It was established last September 18, 1994 at #88 Bargy. Latag, Lipa City, under the management of Mr. Alex Arias together with his wife Mrs. Anita Carol Katigbak. It started with only forty machines and ten employees. The capital of Arias Garments is Php 500,000.00. By 1996, Arias Garments became the subcontractor of Champan Garments. Before taking this class, I knew that I wanted to be a feminist. I believed that women should stand up and exercise their rights to be equal to men on every level. Be that as it may, I lacked the education required to develop my own sense of feminismmy feminist manifesto, if you will. When approaching the topic of feminism, every person needs to ask themselves a list of questions: Who am I? Who do I want to be? What has influenced me as a person? How can I help? There are needs for a critical evaluation of the most popular credit risk assessment methods such as the judgmental method, credit scoring and portfolio models along with limitations used. • 7. Literature Review On The Sound Of Music Anukaran Jain The Sound of Music Review What makes a musical appealing? Perhaps it is the melodious songs that leave a lasting impression, or maybe its appeal lies in its dramatic acting that touches the hearts of its audience. Nonetheless in the case of Sound of Music, by Howard Lindsay and Richard Crouse, this musical spectacle proves itself by crafting a complete narrative, having an accomplished and versatile cast, and strongly relating to the audience. In order for a musical to capture the attention of its audience, the mix between music and acting have to be perfect. The Sound of Music gets around this problem by flawlessly integrating songs with the story to create a truly unique and complete narrative. This can be shown by the pairing of at least one song with every scene. Furthermore each song adds to the existing storyline in order to further refine it. For instance, in Scene 5, when Maria, played by Jill Christine Wiley, meets the children of the Von Trapp family, she teaches them about music. Hence the song Do Re me is sung by the characters. Not only is this song a part of the musical, but it also adds to the performance by being used as a means to enlighten the children about the Sound of Music. Another example is that of the song in scene 6, when Rolf and Lisel, played by Chad B Campbell and Keslie Ward respectively, secretly meet up and sing and dance in the rain. Again, the piece, Sixteen Going on Seventeen acts as an apparatus for adding to the plotline by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. United States Involvement in Organized Conspiracy United States Involvement in Organized Conspiracy Was the war in Iraq a means to improve national security or a conspiracy to seek personal satisfaction? On March 19, 2003 a war was waged under public scrutiny, to destroy the Baathist regime headed by the Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein. This pivotal point in United States history marked the beginning of public concern about political corruption within our government as a means to convey personal satisfaction. With presidential insight overlooking Iraq s government with a fine tooth comb, the Bush Administration decided to turn to public support as a means to increase the awareness in Iraq. This attention was based off the defiance amongst Iraq, and the United Nation (UN) ability to provide full access inside the country of Iraq. As public concern grew on the topic of Iraq, so did the presidential tone and manner when comparing Iraq to the central front in the War on Terror. This began a political push from leaders in and outside the U.S. to implement harsher penalties on Iraq or any country that didn t obey UN weapons inspections (resolution 1441). The resolution 1441 stated that if UN inspection was ever detoured from leaders in the country would be subjected to war. Another country siding with the Bush administration to dissimulate and destroy the Baathist regime in Iraq was Britain and its Prime Minister Tony Blair. After the invasion of Iraq occurred, documents that were obtained from Mr. Blair s office that depicted President Bush already mind set on invading Iraq. Strictly emphasizing that no matter resolution 1441 was compiled by the Iraqi regime or not. Even to go as far as to provoking war with Iraq whether WMD was found or not during the UN inspections. Other CIA information informed the U.S. people that 935 statements on Iraq s potential threat to national security were falsely stated by the Bush Administration. As ... Negotiations occur for two reasons: (1) to resolve a problem or dispute between parties, or (2) to create something new that neither party could do on its own. Negotiating is a critical, every day skill that is essential anytime it is necessary to create short term or long lasting agreements. For example: In 1996, Juwan Howard signed a contract worth over $100 million with the Miami Heatand nearly became the highest paid NBA player during the 96 97 NBA season. The Bullets had first crack at offers, ranging in the high 8 figures and actuals would change as the bidding continued, but the Bullets were not the only ones looking to Howard. The Miami Heat was also interested and would come into the play with their own offers to be considered by Howard. During these proceedings, Alonzo Mourning and many others were working their own deals with the Heat as well as the Bullets. During this time Pat Riley indicated to Mourning that he would eventually be the highest player in Miami. This statement would result in a complete unraveling of the most promised line up of players for this NBA team and a potential of huge success. As the bidding war continued, Juwan Howard would eventually sign on with the Heat for over 100 million over seven years and various other perks. • 14. The Importance Of Self-Respect To Me Self respect to me, means standing up for who you are and what you believe in, when the circumstances you are in are bringing you down, while respecting others backgrounds in the process. I feel like I have come a long way as a person, even though I am only 17 and still have a long way to go in life and lots to learn. I feel like teenage years are meant for learning who you are as a person, learning how to cope with other people, and what you want to accomplish in life. Forget about high school classes like math, language arts or history. Yes those classes matter to pass or to get a good grade in, but do they actually teach you how to be successful in life, or maybe teach you lifelong skills you will need later in life? I bet you most students would tell you no to this question. We find who we are when we get lost in the things we love doing and what we do with the opportunities we have been given. Your teenage years are all about you. You are learning on your own who you want to be and what you want to be. A lot of studies out there say that teenagers or adolescents are actually more hardworking than adults are. I believe this is true because most teenagers are involved in school, work, sports, religious activities, and many more. I feel like I fit in this group. Ever since I was 15, I feel like life has just been busy all the time (which is a good thing). This is because I am actually taking advantage of all the opportunities I have been given as a teenager. • 15. The Life of Saint Anthony The life of Saint Anthony was vividly pictured in the narration of his life by no other person than St. Athanasius. In St. Athanasius description of St. Anthony, he explored all areas where St. Anthony was modeled as a saint. In light of this, the thesis for this essay states that classical genres to which St. Athanasius modelled the Life of St. Anthony is autobiography/biography, mythology and adventures. Throughout the description of St. Anthony s life, he conformed himself to these models. To this end, this essay explores ways in which St. Anthony s life conformed to these models. One of the first ways St. Anthony s life conformed to St. Athanasius model was his first step into asceticism (Robert 26). Asceticism was the first major decision St. Anthony took after the death of his parents. The death of his parents left him with the burden of caring for his sister and taking care of the vast property that belonged to the family. However, while on his way to church, he was meditating a bible verse but on stepping into the church, he was baffled when he heard the Gospel being read instructing whoever wants to serve God to go and sell of his property and distribute the profits from the sale to the poor. He felt that the verse of the Gospel was meant for him so he did exactly as he was instructed (Robert 26). After selling off the property, he distributed the proceeds amongst the poor. He is depicted as a rich, intelligent, and successful businessman and crime fighter. While dressed as his alter ego, Batman he fights the crime organizations of Gotham. In the story, Bruce is depicted in many different ways: as Batman, and as The Batman of Zur En Arrh. The main difference between the two personas is their costumes. The Batman is an all black and yellow suit, resembling a bat, while The Batman of Zur En Arrh wears a suit of purple, red, and black trash. These two personas are very important to Bruce s development as a character and they highlight important personal details. The Batman of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While this may be true for new readers, the story does a fantastic job of preluding to future events. For example, at the beginning of the story, Honor s role in the story is precluded. The representation of time in the story can be confusing. Often flashbacks are incorporated in the middle of scenes, and time jumps back and forth throughout the story. A particularly confusing point is when Batman comes to after he is captured and drugged by The Black Glove. Batman R.I.P. is very much a rebirth story. Here, we saw the rise, fall, and then rise again of Batman. This story has many parallels to the story of Jesus Christ. At the beginning of the story the reader sees Batman performing a typical Batman act of heroism (rise). It then progresses to Batman being incapacitated by the Black Glove and him being reduced to The Batman of Zur En Arrh (fall). Batman then infiltrates the Black Glove at Arkham Asylum, destroys Dr. Hurt and rediscovers himself as the Batman (rise). This story truly highlights the progression of a tragic hero. • 18. Analysis of Alfred TennysonВґs Three Poems Essay Alfred Tennyson, 1st Baron Tennyson of Aldworth and Freshwater is known as one of the greatest poetic figure of the Victorian Age. Tennyson started writing poetry at an early age and at the age of twelve he wrote a 6,000 line poem. His poems consisted of medieval legends, myths, and everyday life and nature. When he was appointed laureate a position he held for 42 years, the longest of any laureate, he wrote about historical events and one of his famous works was Ode on the Death of Duke of Wellington. Three of his poems that I chose and stood out above all others are Mariana, In Memoriam A.H.H., and Ulysses. Insisted by his friends and father Tennyson entered one of his old works entitled Timbuctoo for the Chancellor s Gold Medal which he won in 1829. When he entered his poem for the Chancellor s prize he encountered Arthur Henry Hallam becoming Tennyson s closest friend. • 19. William Bridges Transition Model Managing Transitions by William Bridges is a well constructed text written on Change Management. Bridges begins by expressing the clear distinction between change and transition , with emphasis that change and transition are not interchangeable terms, but completely separate processes. The concept, according to Bridges, is simple: Change is situational, it is eventful, visible and tangible. Change is the WHAT. Transition is psychological, a continuous process that happens over a span of time, it is internalized by people. Transition is the HOW. Transition is internal, it is what happens to the person mentally as they process the change. Change is situational: the move to a new site, the retirement of a founder, the reorganization of the roles on the team, the revisions to the pension plan. Transition is psychological: a three phase process people go through as they internalize and come to terms with the details of the new situation that the change brings about. Bridges says that these phases have no sequential order of occurrence and the people will go through transition at their own pace. It is not uncommon for an organization to be in more than one phase in the transition process at a given time. This simply depends on how each team has handled the change, some people may have already started the Neutral Zone while others are still lagging behind in the Ending phase. • 20. Red # 40 Dyes In the United States and in most of the world food dyes are exceedingly common. In addition to this, they have been brought into question as being dangerous for human and environmental health. From general observation and knowledge about this topic I knew that Red #40 dye (Allura Red AC) is at the height of this controversy. After some initial research, I discovered more information on Azo dyes, their effect on the environment, as well as wastewater treatment used to decontaminate water containing these dyes. This led to my interest on the topic of Electrochemical Advanced Oxidation Processes (EAOPs) as a fairly recent solution to environmental issues regarding contaminants in water. Furthermore, they produce vibrant shades of color and are reasonably soluble in water (Liu, Wan, Nan, n.d.). However, these dyes are now manufactured at such a large scale that they bring up numerous health and environmental concerns. In recent years azo dyes, especially Allura Red AC, have been connected to child hyperactivity, which also raises concerns over other potentially toxic effects they can have on living organisms ( FDA Probes Link , 2011). This is only amplified by the fact that azo dyes such as Allura Red AC and Azo Grenadine are also especially recalcitrant to conventional methods of wastewater treatment. Research on this topic led me to an article on electrochemical advanced oxidation processes and their potential as a solution to mineralizing especially recalcitrant compounds in the environment, Decontamination of Wastewaters Containing Synthetic Organic Dyes by Electrochemical Methods: A Review. This led me to pursue the investigation in my extended essay on the topic of electrochemical advanced oxidation processes and the effect they have on azo dyes such as Allura Red AC and Azo Grenadine. Knights are the ones who follow their code of honor, chivalry at its finest. Peasants are the ones who work until their bodies give out just to provide for their family. These are words that depicted the social hierarchy during the Middle Ages or rather, the Dark Ages. An age where not everyone is given the chance to elevate to a new status, where the oppressed stays oppressed while the aristocrats sits in their fine houses and live lavishly. In order for a person to accurately use the scientific method to gather knowledge and truth from the Bible a person should have a general Christian worldview. A Christian worldview is any ideology, philosophy, theology, movement or religion that provides an overarching approach to understanding God, the world and man s relations to God and the world. (Noebel, D, 1995). In a biblical worldview the word of God is infallible. The Bible is the foundation of everything Christians say and do. A person who is living in a secular worldview has beliefs filled with selfish, fallen world ideas that seductively appeal to the desires of one s flesh. A person with a Christian worldview already has the answer within their heart. So a person with a Christian worldview is led to look for truth within the Bible which is revealed to them through revelation. Without the proper worldview, people will be unable to find truth and knowledge within the Bible. In looking through a lens it is important to consider the lens that the material was originally created from and intended for. The scientific method will continue to remain valid, only if analogous worldviews are shared. The Christian worldview is compatible with the Scientific Method. The Christian Worldview promotes faith in works and the Scientific Method promotes human intellect to search through God s works. • 28. Howl By Allen Ginsberg Critical Analysis Poetry may be defined in many ways: for different people arising from different backgrounds, (levels of education, beliefs, culture, and family), poetry may be viewed in many perspectives that suit their familiarity of understanding. For T.S. Eliot, poetry is an art which is controlled to go beyond reporting feelings of moments, into something extended. The extended feeling, that now has meaning beyond just an expression for emotion, is then able to live for itself, separate from its creator. Hence, poetrybecomes an escape from emotion and personality as the personality that it derives from gives birth to something independent. Eliot is right to define poetry as something representing an extended feeling, as the beauty of poetry is to convey meaning from something unpoetic such as pure madness; however, he failed to include that to give meaning an independence, to a feeling is to incorporate the poet s psychology. It takes a poet s intelligence to be able to transfer the unexplainable to something understood by others. A poem is not just a medium of escape, it is an extension of the poet s psyche as their experiences and knowledge of their world is what helps them craft and define the shape of their work. Howl, by Allen Ginsberg is an example of how a turning loose of emotion becomes not just an escape of emotion, but an expression for his critiques against the American Society in the 1950 s. • 38. Chinese Immigrants in America Essay After the first wave of Chinese immigrants arrived in the United States in the early 1840s during the California Gold Rush, many Chinese people continued to travel across the Pacific, escaping poor conditions in China with hopes and ambitions for a better life in America. Many more Chinese immigrants began arriving into the 1860s on the Pacific coast for work in other areas such as the railroad industry. The immigrants noticed an increasing demand for their labor because of their readiness to work for low wages. Many of those who arrived did not plan to stay long, and therefore there was no push for their naturalization. The immigrants left a country with thousands of years of a decaying feudal system, corruption, a growing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The growth of Chinese jobs in the California labor market did not stop there. Because of the hard times, employers found it especially attractive that the Chinese workers would work for long hours with low pay. Huge losses hit California in 1876 with a drought; this led to unemployment across the coast including for the Chinese. Many white investors, however, used the Chinese as scapegoats for this statewide depression, fueling the anti Chinese fire and leading to more hostility towards Chinese workers. The firsthand account of Lee Chew, a Chinese immigrant to America in the early 1880s, shows the disparities between the white man s perception of Chinese laborers and reality as well as the hostility that arose as a result. When Lee first arrived in America, he started working as a housekeeper for a family in California, being paid $3.50 a week and being able to keep 50 cents afterwards. For Lee and other Chinese immigrants, they believed the hostility arose from jealousy in the labor market, because he [Chinese worker] is a more faithful worker than one of their people, [and they] have raised such a great outcry about Chinese cheap labor that they have shut him [Chinese worker] out of working on farms or in factories or building railroads or making streets or digging sewers. Lee s testimony shows the common ripple effects of the working restrictions white men imposed on the Chinese immigrants looking for jobs. This resulted in Chinese ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A heavy charged particle traversing matter loses energy mainly through the ionization and excitation of atom. If a charged particle has a greater energy and moving faster, it has a lower tendency to lose energy along its path in per unit path length.5 Similarly, at higher energy, protons move relatively faster and thus ionize and excite fewer molecules, therefore, its stopping power is lower.5 However, as their energy decrease, protons transfer more energy to the medium and the stopping power would be higher as shown in Figure 1. Consequently, the stopping power or LET depends on its energy.5 The energy loss increases towards the end of the range, reaches a maximum, which is called the Bragg peak, and abruptly drop to zero before the protons stop. The Bragg peak occurs because the interaction cross section of the medium increases as the proton s energy decreases.1, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

LGBTQ Homeless Youth INTRODUCTION I write today to request your permission to research solutions that will enable LGBTQ youth who have become homeless to find safe and appropriate services tailored to their special needs. In order to properly investigate the available options and make recommendations to my community, I will have to research the circumstances that leads to LGBTQ youth homelessness, the challenges they face and what s already available to them. BACKGROUND As a family member of an LGBTQ youth I have observed and heard about the harsh conditions that these children are dealing with. There are thousands of homeless LGBTQ youth across the country for simply being gay and expressing their sexuality, these youth are either pushed out of their homes or run away and forced into circumstances that nobody should have to face. By researching the special needs of the LGBTQ homeless youth and the resources available to them in my community, I hope to advocate for more awareness and inspire change and understanding of their flight. The current methods of detecting NSCLC may be effective, but they are also very expensive. One method called a low dose computed tomography (LDCT) has been successful in identifying malignant tumors. However, routine LDCT screenings would result in 1.3 to 2 billion dollars nationally in health care costs annually. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biomarkers are natural indicators in the body that respond noticeably to the presence of disease. By measuring the responses of biomarkers, oncologists detect the cancerous cells before recommending expensive procedures, rather than immediately resorting to these procedures. One of these biomarkers that responds to the presence of cancerous cells is microRNA. MicroRNAs are molecules that are involved in the cell life cycle and therefore the progression of cancerous cells. A study in cancerpatients was conducted to compare the accuracy of screening with microRNAs to screening with LDCT. Observing microRNAs did not prove to be as accurate at identifying cancer as LDCT, but since using microRNAs is a less expensive process, it can identify patients that should undergo LCDT testing. Screening with microRNA testing initially would decrease the number of patients paying for LCDT testing. Another biomarker that can be observed in response to cancer is ct DNA. Ct DNA refers to fragments of DNA from tumors found circulating in the blood stream. A recent study indicated that observing ct DNA could have multiple useful applications for oncologists. Ct DNA analysis during treatment could serve as an indication of how tumors react to treatment methods and whether recurrence is likely. Detecting ct DNA in the bloodstream could even serve as an early sign of cancer, observable before imaging tests even show tumors. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This makes a very straightforward clue that White Dog is in fact real. One of the strongest suggestions in the book that supports this is the fact that White Dog does not bark and the neighborhood dogs do not bark in response to him. Sam even admits this oddity to him self as he lies in the hospital after his near death experience. Neelie makes a point to the family about ghost dog never barking, during her visit with Sam at the hospital. After her visit Sam begins to think back on his experience with White Dog and realizes I ve never heard White Dog bark (Kay 89). Another fact that questions the realism of White Dog is how he escaped from the house to get help for Sam. This fact is only mentioned by Sam, and is easily dismissed by the chance that he accidentally left a door open. Towards the end of the book Sam tells his youngest son James his thoughts about White Dog. He states to James That was your mama (Kay 177). This, however, does not disprove that White Dog is real, it is merely his feelings. In the book, To Dance With The White Dog, White Dog s existence is neither confirmed nor denied.
