RESULTS The main articles used in this study are summarized in the evidence table (Table 4) in the
appendix section of this paper. The evidence table was set up to visualize the data from different
sources obtained during the research process. The data synthesis divides the various numbers of
researches distinctly based on the main author, publication date, study design, study population, data
collection method and finally the outcome/results of the study. In a year, roughly 500 Americans die
after decisions by their surrogates to limit life support (White, 2009). One of the most important and
difficult decisions the family of a patient on life support has to make is at what point they should
withhold or withdraw life sustaining treatment. A study showed that there appears to be no solid
preference as to whether family members prefer to receive recommendations from the physician when
deciding to limit patient life support (White, 2009). More specifically, the results of this study
revealed that 56% (96/169) of surrogate decision makers preferred to get recommendations from the
physician; while 42% (70/169) did not (White, 2009). Only a small percentage (2%; 4/169) ... Show

A mixed quantitative and quantitative study sought to determine the thoughts of surrogates of
critically ill patients on whether they believed in their doctors ability to predict medical futility and
whether such beliefs can determine surrogates willingness to withdraw life support when faced with
prognostications of futility (Zier et al, 2009). Sixty four percent of surrogates (34/50) expressed doubt
about the accuracy of physicians futility predictions; while 32% decided to continue treatment even
with just a 1% survival estimate, and 18% of surrogates elected to continue treatment despite
physicians beliefs of no chance of survival (Zier, et al,

Employee Monitoring at Work
Employee monitoring at work
Outline:
Evolution of employee monitoring
Why do employers monitor their employees?
Workplace Privacy and Employee Monitoring
Types of employee monitoring ā–Ŗ New way of monitoring
Successful implementation of the monitoring system
The Law
Monitoring shouldn t go too far
My perspective conclusion Evolution of employee monitoring For many years, organizations have
engaged in many practices in order to monitor their employees for the intention of control and
compliance, employers also need to be sure that their staff are behaving properly because they are
liable for the actions of their employees. Employee monitoring is the act of watching and monitoring

shopping and chatting. And almost one in five of the 576 employees questioned said that they are
receiving offensive e mail per month from a co worker. These are another reasons why the employer
considering to monitor their employee.
Techniques and practices of electronic monitoring range from recording and reviewing emails, phone
messages and internet browsing to tracking employee attendance, interactions with customers and
quality of work. Concerns about electronic monitoring fluctuate between issues of stress and
employee satisfaction, these resulting from performance and productivity practices and infringement
of privacy rights within the workplace as a consequence of surveillance and tracking of personal
communications at work. There is still a need, however, for privacy in the workplace. More than ever
before, high performance workplaces in the knowledge age need to provide workers with
opportunities for both privacy and interaction.
Workplace Privacy and Employee Monitoring As technology advances, so do the monitoring
possibilities in the workplace; as a result these possibilities will raise the privacy issue in the
workplace. Nowadays, employers can monitor and track many aspects of their employees jobs,
especially on telephones, computer terminals, through electronic and voice mail, and when employees

Justice vs. Morality in Measure for Measure and Merchant of Venice
There are many similarities shared between Shakespeare s plays, Measure for Measure , and The
Merchant of Venice . The underlying theme of each work is well defined by the phrase Justice without
the temperance of mercy, is power misused . I will support this claim by drawing upon some of the
characters and situations that are consistent in each story.
In each story a man s life depends on the interpretation, and sanctioning of justice. In the, Merchant of
Venice , Antonio (who I believe represents mercy), had sealed a bond with Shylock offering a pound
of his flesh for the loan of three thousand ducats. Unfortunately he forfeits this bond, (Merchant ...

For Antonio it was his love of Bassanio and his strong desire to see him prosper, (Merchant I,i) ... My
purse, my person, my extremist means, Lie all unlock d to your occasions. . Cladio too acted out of
love and devotion to the woman he meant for his wife, yet didn t hold the papers for.
In both situations cases are made not necessarily to debunk justice, however instead to allow for
judgment interwoven with mercy. For Antonio s sake Portia (acting as Balthazar), offers Shylock a
plea of humanity, (Merchant IV,i) The quality of mercy is not strain d,... Tis mightiest in the
mightiest... It is enthroned in the heart of kings, It is an attribute to God himself... , yet none of this
causes Shylock to sway from his original position, (Merchant IV,i) My deeds upon my head! I crave
the law, The penalty and forfeit of my bond. . In, Measure for Measure it was Isabella attempting to
soften the heart of Angelo, (Measure II,ii) ... Go to your bosom, Knock there, and ask your heart what
it doth know That s like my brother s fault... . Now the plot in this story is much thicker, and Angelo
had another agenda (i.e.. getting Isabella in bed), her plea s ended with the same result as those of
Portia, (Measure II,iv) Nay, but hear me, Your sense pursues not mine... , Then must your brother die .
In both situations there is a strong, and legitimate case for either argument. On the one hand you have

Similarities Between Rape Fantasies And The Other Place
The short stories Rape Fantasies and The Other Place are both short stories that have ominous
sounding titles and are both different but I many ways very similar. Rape Fantasies, as you can guess,
is about the very taboo subject of rape. Furthermore, The Other Place is about violence subject matter
and taboo subjects of violence involving the narrator and his son s violent thoughts. The short stories
Rape Fantasies and The Other Place are similar pieces of work due to their similarities in the way they
narrate their own stories, have fantasies about violence, and believe their behavior is abnormal.
Both short stories are narrated by one person throughout each of their own separate short stories. Both
must divulge their own fantasies about their own stories and use great about of descriptions and
imagery that make you feel the mood of the story. In the other places, the narrator talks about the
violent drawing his son has been making and connects it to his own violent tendencies to when he was
young. Mostly, though, he draws pictures of men holding guns, or men hanging from nooses. Or men
cutting up other men with chainsaws in these pictures there are no faces, just figures holding
chainsaws and figures being cut in two, with blood spraying out (). This imagery told by the narrator
in the story shows the violence of his child and the lack empathy he shows, but the father isn t as
effected as he should be by his sons lack of empathy. In the story Rape

The Transformation Of Class And Occupational Structure Of...
At this time, the descendant of Mathew Maule, Holgrave, lives with Hepzibah in the decrepit mansion.
However, unlike Hepzibah, Maule is healthy and thriving during the industrialization. With the social
change of the nineteenth century, Maule is given the opportunity to become more than the past would
have ever allowed his ancestors, [who were] generally poverty stricken; always plebeian and obscure;
working with unsuccessful diligence at handicrafts (Hawthorne 15). In Colonel Pyncheon s time, the
Maule family was in the poor plebian class and easily erasable by the Colonel. Now Maule not only
lives in the Pyncheon mansion but is prospering better than Hepzibah. Holgrave s occupation is also
different from his ancestor s carpentry work. He is a daguerreotypist; the first profession to
successfully create photographs. Melanie Archer, author of Class Formation in Nineteenth century
America: The Case of the Middle Class, states that in the nineteenth century...The development of the
middle class is rooted in the transformation of class and occupational structure (3). Holgrave s
profession coincides with his and the emerging middle class s progressive personalities and drive.
Hawthorne utilizes the Maule family to contrast the aristocratic notions, to demonstrate the ever
evolving America within the Maule family and to illustrate that, the middle class comprised not only a
significant segment of the nineteenth century urban population, but that it was influential in

Biological Effects Of Grounding On The Body
Grounding has shown to affect inflammation, chronic pain, cardiovascular function, and other
biological processes (Chevalier, Sinatra, Oshman Delany, 2013). It was hypothesized that those who
electrically ground themselves with the natural world around them would be in an elevated, happier
mood. Findings from the research conducted did not support this hypothesis. Results were not
consistent with the previous research conducted on the effects of grounding on the physical body;
however, research on the psychological effects of grounding the body has not been conducted on a
large scale. Because of the previous research on the biological effects of grounding, there is a
theoretical argument to suggest that it could positively affect mood,

Double Indemnity Analysis
The film Double Indemnity (1944) opens up at night with Walter Niff (Fred MacMurray) an insurance
salesman in 1938 is dictating a confession of murder. Told in flashbacks we see him meet an attractive
married woman, Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck), Niff is there to update their insurance policy,
but instead plot together to kill her husband and swindle the insurance claim for $100,000 by evoking
a double indemnity clause. Orchestrated by Niff who considers this a challenge to beat the system and
assisted by Mrs. Dietrichson who is motivated by obtaining instant wealth, the murder must look like
an accident from falling off a train. The plan works, but Niff s boss, Barton Keyes (Edward G.

Cain s crime/thriller novel Double Indemnity published in 1936 and Raymond Chandler wrote the
screenplay that was nominated for an Oscar. The film Double Indemnity garnished other Oscar
nominations for Best Picture, Best Director (Billy Wilder), and Best Actress (Barbara Stanwyck). Cain
had gain fame in 1934 with his popular novel The Postman Always Rings Twice, and tried to get
Hollywood interested in making Double Indemnity, but it couldn t pass the Hays Codes, not until Billy
Wilder s produced a tone down treatment and hiring Raymond Chandler to craft a skillful screenplay
that pleased everyone. Billy Wilder directed Double Indemnity in a controlled purposeful manner, the
audience is merely an observer through the camera lens, eavesdropping on two despicable people
plotting murder, as noted by Hirsch, There seems to be no world outside the frame, and there are
almost no other people on view besides the principals (Hirsch 6). And this gives us an intimacy in
their corruptive lives and mindset as we watch them fall victim to their own obsessions and greed.

Language In Rabbit Proof Fence
Rabbit Proof Fence is a movie directed by Phillip Noyce based on the novel by Doris Pilkington
Garimara. In the excerpt, The Stealing of Children, it shows the offspring of the indigenous people
being taken away from their parents as the white settlers thought they weren t being treated properly.
Events like these occurred from 1910 1970 in Australia s history. Many aboriginal children didn t want
to be taken away and the fictional story, based on real events, of Rabbit Proof Fence has been created
from the point of view of those people living at this time. The director has created many
representations of Aboriginal people through the use of language features, visual elements and the
audio components.
The language features of The Stealing of Children give many representations of the indigenous
people. One of these devices is repetition. Once the aboriginals were trapped by Constable Riggs,
Maude repeatedly shouted the word, No! . While he took the children, she continued to state that they
were hers and she didn t like him taking them. Her repetitiveness gave the impression that she didn t
want to lose her kids and that she loved them. This also gave the impression that Maude had no
authority against Riggs. Another language element featured in the film is evocative vocabulary. It was
used among the shouts of the indigenous people and the police man. When the Grandmother came to
the car with a large stick, which she may have used to try and break the car windows,

To What Extent Did The American Colonists Refuse To Let...
Thomas Jefferson once said, If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to
do so. Citizens of any government are often subject to unjust, unreasonable legislation that they are
required to follow but are they? In fact, in order to uphold a government that reflects the will of the
people, citizens must protest unfair laws by deliberately disobeying them. This method often results in
immediate change, would help to ban immoral laws that can be dangerous to some groups of people,
and upholds the entire idea of a fair government: to let the people rule. The first major benefit of a
group of people disobeying a law is that it usually results in quick change, either by the government
receding to the wishes of the people or by more people joining the movement in order to overthrow
the government, which creates huge change. One historic example of this was when some of the
American colonists refused to obey the Intolerable Acts that Britain imposed on them as punishment
for the Boston Tea Party. Ultimately, the Intolerable Acts of 1774 were the catalyst for the American
Revolution. By refusing to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This principle is upheld by Henry David Thoreau s statement that Disobedience is the true foundation
of liberty. The obedient must be slaves. Thoreau explains here that the only way for citizens to be truly
free is to stand up to their government. The fact of the matter is that nothing accurately reflects the
will of the people more than when that desire is expressed loud and clear through the tumultuous time
of an overthrow. Political unrest is the clearest indication of the fact that the citizens are fighting back
against something unjust not only because they want to, but because they have to in order to protect

Memory and Reality in Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie
Memory and Reality in Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie
Being a memory play, it is dimly lighted, it is sentimental, it is not realistic . To what degree is the
play memory and to what degree is it realistic?
When a play employs unconventional techniques, it is not trying to escape its responsibility of dealing
with reality, or interpreting experience, but is actually attempting to find a closer approach, a more
penetrating and vivid expression of things as they are (Tennessee Williams). The Glass Menagerie is
one of Tennessee Williams most eminent works and no doubt qualifies as a classic of the modern
theater. Often referred to as a memory play , both the style and content of ... Show more content on

Despite being a memory play , the basis and content of The Glass Menagerie is truth and reality as
Williams attempts to find a closer approach, a more penetrating and vivid expression of things as they
are . This basis of reality is evident in the play s setting, as The Glass Menagerie is presented with
great fidelity to the social and historical realities of the time. This is demonstrated from the play s
beginning as Tom reverses time to that quaint period, the thirties , and juxtaposes the turmoil in Spain
to the uneasy peace in America, in an allusion to the forthcoming war (World War II). There are other
allusions to the war throughout the play, such as in Tom s closing speech as he claims the world is lit
by lightning . It is clear that the historical realities of the time are effectively conveyed in the play,
although it is not only the war related realities of the time that Williams highlights.
Williams presentation of the social realities of the period is clear with the bleak lower middle class life
in America, portrayed by the Wingfield family. This is most evident in the way that Laura, Amanda
and Tom each develop their own methods of

Cassiopea Xamachana Research Paper
Cassiopea xamachana, more commonly known as the upside down jellyfish, is commonly found in the
Caribbean Sea and parts of the western Atlantic Ocean. It lives near the bottoms of inshore ponds and
bays and other shallow, tropical waters. The upside down jellyfish can be found in sandy mudflats as
well. It is native to the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, but has also been introduced to the Pacific
Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. The upside down jellyfish appears very different than other jellies; they
have a green/gray color to them opposed to the usual red, blue or violet. It works like a camouflage, as
it makes them appear to be a sea anemone or a bush. They have radial symmetry, meaning that if cut
into wedges, it would produce roughly the same result. The medusa has four branching tentacles used
for feeding. It also has a depression on its bell that is used to attach to the ground since some of the
jellyfish remain sedentary for most of its life. The jellyfish moves with the current of the water until it
reaches a place where it can settle and attach and there it says for the remainder of its life. Other jellies

Symbolism In The Swimmer By John Cheever
By the time the alcohol touches the tongue, the storm has already begun. John Cheever s relationship
with alcohol presents itself throughout the short story The Swimmer , and uses the character, Ned
Merrill, to represent the struggles he was experiencing. Addiction and the need for alcohol drove this
character into a storm he couldn t retreat from. In The Swimmer Cheever uses a physical storm and
the changes in the weather to show the path of drinking and becoming an alcoholic. The short story
begins with joy and excitement, then turns into something casual and frequent, but eventually leads to
misfortune and a misery. Nobody desires to be led to an unpleasant storm, that comes with drinking
alcohol. Cheever uses nature and the storms to represent the life of an alcoholic.
Drinking may not seem to be so bad at first, but the consequences come later in the journey. John
Cheever begins this short story with an initial sign of casual drinking. Ned Merrill and his wife are
accompanied by friends who all say they drank too much last night as if they were all drinking
together (Cheever 726). Right from the beginning, Cheever gives readers the hint that characters from
this story drink a lot. He makes it a part of the social norm, so it seems to be something done on the
regular. Before Ned decides to begin a journey to swim the Lucinda River, he notices the weather.
Cheever directs the focus to the fact that it was a fine day. In the west there was a massive stand of
cumulus cloud so like a city seen from a distance , marking the beginning of the storm (726). Looking
into the West, a place of death and misfortune, are where fluffy and cotton like clouds are on display.
In literature, the West is often symbolic of death and dying since the sun sets over that horizon. A time
where leaves and plants die, and the start of darkness. Those clouds may look peaceful, but they
represent the beginning of a storm coming from the disastrous West.
Eventually, the fun and laughter turn into something normal and boring, and drinking more serves to
reanimate his social interactions. Unfortunately, those problems are only gone for a little while, and
Ned Merrill finds this out the hard way by continuing his journey. Each house

This allows the train to lift between 0.39 and 3.93 inches (1 to 10 centimeters) above the guideway.
Once the train is lifted, power is supplied to the coils within the guideway walls. This creates a unique
system of magnetic fields that pull and push the train along the guideway. The electric current
supplied to the coils in the guideway walls is constantly alternating to change the polarity of the
magnetized coils. This change in polarity causes the magnetic field in front of the train to pull the
vehicle forward, while the magnetic field behind the train adds more forward thrust. Maglev trains

The Role Of Computing In The 1800 s
Computing in the 1800 s: An era of inventions
We live in an era where technology is all around us. We use technology in our daily lives by using
computers, cell phones, cars, etc. The most productive form of technology though is computers and
like most people might think, computers did not emerge in the late 20th century. It was in the 1800 s
when the most significant forms of computing were built, and as a result the amazing computers we
have today were pioneered. One of the earliest inventions of the 1800 s, was the first electrical
telegraph built by Samuel Soemerring. He was a German physician, anatomist, anthropologist,
paleontologist and most importantly an inventor. He excelled in 5 different fields which prove he was
a true genius capable of multiple things. His mother Johann Thomas Soemmering was a physicist and
that was most likely his main source of motivation. In 1774 he completed his education in Thorn,
Poland and shortly after, he enrolled in University of Gottingen to study medicine. He then became a
professor of anatomy at the Collegium Carolinum in Kassel, which was the start of his teaching career.
He also thought in University of Mainz in 1784. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soemmering made use of early electricity, which was on a rise at the time, to transmit messages.
Though it had two simple looking stands and a tower with discs inside, it was a very complicated
machine and required the analysis of bubbles that were released to correspond with certain letters.
Soemmering used 35 gold wires submerged in water sending messages around two thousand feet
away that could be read by determining how much gas was being released. Water has a high electrical
conductivity and his contraption was based on that. Although it was a primitive invention, it
influenced advancement in telegraph production and

Observation Essay . On 10th Avenue and 26th Street, in the West side of Manhattan, marks Death
Avenue. Hundreds of New Yorkers lost their lives on this street due to the railroads. In 1929, the city
finally agreed to elevate the railroad and initiate construction of the game changing High Line. In the
book, Public Art on the High Line, it states, From 1934 to 1960, it had been considered a game
changer, substantially improving the efficiency and safely of getting goods into and out of the city

death rate of train related accidents. Although, the rise of interstate highways and commercials airlines
decreased the need for the High Line. Meat and good were not transported from the High Line
anymore, but now from trucks. In the Journal Article on the Transformation of Abandoned Railroad

the viaduct was sold from the New York Central Railroad to the Penn Central Railroad. Then after was

Ansoff Matrix Essay
We will now analyze the corporate level strategy of Patanjali using the Ansoff Product and Market
Growth Matrix. There are four components of Ansoff Matrix market penetrations, market
development, product development and diversification and we will discuss each of them in detail
below.
a) Market Penetration: It focuses on expanding sales of the existing product in firms existing market.
This can be achieved by a combination of pricing strategy , sales promotion and marketing and the
objective of the firm is to be the dominant player in that market by driving out the competitors and
increasing the loyal customer base. This would make it less risky and require less market research for
the firm to expand as it can utilize its existing resources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This strategy requires the firm to develop products appealing to existing markets and the business will
have to develop new competencies. This strategy emphasis on research and development, market
research on customer needs and innovative ideas. This usually happens if the firm has a huge customer
base and the market for existing product is reaching saturation and thus market penetration strategy
could not be applied. Patanjali in its part focused on quality, purity and affordability and the followers
of Baba Ramdev formed its core set of customers. Patanjali started making amla (gooseberry) juice
which happened accidently. A group of farmers don t know what to do with excel gooseberries as the
price was very low and there was not much demand. At that Patanjali introduced this new drink Amla
Juice to the market which was an instant hit. The introduction of new product was little riskier as they
didn t knew how the product would be accepted by the customers, but after the drink became hit, they
introduced various varieties of juices likes Aloe Vera Juice, Hing digestive golis and also personal care
products like shikakai, sherbets and spices that Indians otherwise shopped at gramudyog outlets. They
also plan to introduce other products from baby care to garments and from bio fertilisers to healthy
food, and also organic cotton

while the other thirtytwo states were either completely ignored, or only got one visit compared to the
other states. This shows that Electoral college doesn t make candidates care about smaller states. The
way the Electoral College works is by forcing candidates to focus on four states like Ohio, Florida,
Pennsylvania and Virginia. The Election is winners take all, so if candidate gets fifty percent of the
population in that state to for him he wins the whole state entirely . That means winning by abundance
of citizen votes is no better than winning by a single vote. This is why candidates are ignore states like

in fact divided into new nations with new names, but not this one, impossibly interwoven even in its
hostilities, meaning that other countries that had these problems with racism and differences have split
into other nations. It is because of this that she says that America is surprising, since we have now

Book Report On Kenan s List
Kenan Trebničević was living in Bosnia during the time of the ethnic cleansing that happened. In his
book, The Bosnia List, Kenan tells about his experience with the war that him and his family had to
live through. Kenan had very skeptical views about how his homeland turned out to be after the war,
but once he traveled back to Bosnia with his family his perspective was greatly changed. Kenan was
about thirty years old when he decided he was going to make a list of all of the things that he wanted
to do when he got back to Bosnia. After traveling back, he soon realized that things were much
different than he anticipated, and he decided to make a new list. When Kenan made his original list it

The first item on Kenan s new list was, Thank God for Obren, who warned Dad and Mujo away from
the Partizan Sports Hall (Trebničević 297). The Partizan Sports Hall was a popular place that Kenan

Brokeback Mountain and the Western Genre Essay
The film genre of the Western has long since proven to be more about the conflict and showdowns that
occur in the storyline. Usually the western genre incorporates traditional western motifs and icons and
adheres to those common plot structures of the genre, but Brokeback Mountain is different from what
is to be normally expected because it does not seem like a traditional and conventional Western film at
all. Brokeback Mountain has several different twists to it, like the more modern take on it traditionally,
characters in Western films were riding horses, but because Brokeback Mountain is a more modern
movie, the two characters Jack and Ennis are seen traveling in cars and trucks most of the time. This
alteration is very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brokeback Mountain, being the more homosexual romance oriented Western that it is, subverts a large
number of the typical traditional elements of the Western film genre as a whole, this one especially, by
having another male be in the position of the love interest of the hero. Although this subversion in
particular is very problematic for Jack, as it puts him in the shoes of being associated with all things
relating to femininity in the relationship. For example, Jack is the one who makes the first move when
seducing Ennis, using his own allure and sexuality into tempting Ennis when he calls him into the tent,
leading Ennis down somewhat of a risky path. Ennis, however, is portrayed as somewhat of a saint,
his being repressed and restrained by social standards, saying to Jack, You may be a sinner but I ain t
yet had the opportunity . Another interesting typical thing in the Western genre that was altered was
that instead of Indians being the villain, the enemy is that of a ignorant and oppressive society a
society that would kill Ennis and Jack for being different , Ennis says to Jack, this thing takes hold of
us at the wrong place, wrong time and we re dead, which shows how much they both worry about it
but the two cowboys still have to find some way to pull through and struggle to find their true selves
in this society, but it is also that fear which causes the devastating events

Analysis Of Netflix, Inc. And Its Organizational Vision Essay
Once upon a time, there was a company known as Blockbusters video that dominated the video rental
business. It seemed like Blockbusters was untouchable and we were all doomed to a lifetime of late
fees and limited movie selections. Reed Hastings thankfully got tired of paying late fees and
established
Netflix. The business model Reed created focused on customers would receive their movies in the
mail and there would never be a late fee (Abraham, 2012 p.
1.8). It was this idea that grew into a new way of watching videos, this paper will conduct a quick
SWOT analysis as well as examine the strategy used by Netflix
Inc. and its organizational vision.
The first step of a SWOT analysis is, understanding what sets Netflix apart from other video rental
companies. Netflix had taken the approach of eliminating the need for a retail store in every city.
Netflix functions in a virtual environment allowing people to stream videos and order movies from the
warehouse to the customers. This eliminated a tremendous amount of cost by allowing them to simply
downsize the facilities into one call center to provide customer service nationwide. ORGANIZATION
FINAL PROJECT 3
The next step is establishing a clear vision statement to turn the idea of eliminating late fees into an
actual business plan. Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO developed the following statement about the
organizations vision Becoming the best global entertainment distribution service. Licensing

In one episode, one of the main characters ended up sleeping with his date even though they had just
met each other the day before and had only gone out on one date. In the very same episode, another of
the main characters had sex with a woman that he had just met less than ten minutes before. In reality,
the norm (or the desired norm) is to wait until a couple has been going out for a while and gets to
know each other better before having sex. In some cases, it is the norm to wait until marriage before
having sex. There are many exceptions to these norms, but most people like to believe that they hold
true.
Another aspect that is falsely portrayed is the representation of love and sex. This show sends several
different messages about love and sex, some of them completely contradicting the others. The one
thing that caught my attention the most though, was the act of casual sex, or the act of sex without
love. In one of the episodes mentioned earlier, one of the main characters had slept with a woman he
only had met the day before. The following morning, the main character told his roommate that,
[Their] relationship had no spark , and [he] only slept with her because she was willing to do so . This
proves that in this show, most relationships are based on sexual attraction, instead of cognitive
relationships. Then he asked his roommate to break up with the woman for him, since he had to leave.

Historical Accuracy Of The Movie Gladiator
The movie and film industry is known for putting unnecessary amounts of drama into productions to
keep the audience s attention and gain maximum amounts of profit. Historical drama films are
typically more about the entertainment than the historical accuracy. The production Gladiator directed
by Ridley Scott in 2000 is a good example of this but in this film, there are some parts that are
historically accurate.
The movie Gladiator is an epic historical drama film that takes place in Ancient Rome, where a

Bartolome de Las Casas Book Review
An Account much abbreviated of the destruction of the Indies, Indianapolis, IN, Hackett Publishing
Company INC., 2003
Bartolme De Las Casas is an interesting character. His passion for people who at the time were seen as
a sub species of humans (if even human at all) is remarkable. De Las Casas came from a modest
family and was well educated. He was brought into the world of the America s through his father
Pedro De Las Casas who was an encomiendo himself. His travels through the New World prior to
1510 when he became an ordained priest shaped his crusade to defend the Natives.
There are many clues in this book which point to the exaggeration of its content. For instance at one
point De Las Casas goes as far as to say that 12 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
De Las Casas did affect King Charles the 5th and in 1542 after reading Brevisima Relacion he quickly
created the New Laws which conveniently put an end to some of the rights of the encomienda which
the monarch felt gave too much power to Spanish land owners in the Americas. De Las Casas gave the
King the perfect excuse to take power back from the encomiendos justifying it with Christianity which
the Spanish monarchs were responsible to uphold. The political system of the time and its relation to
the Catholic Church makes every situation involving members of the clergy to have political
repercussions. The royals used De Las Casas to take power back for them selves; De Las Casas used
his political leverage and the crowns responsibility to protect the values of Christianity to aid his
cause. While it is clear what the monarchs gain from De Las Casas was, De Las Casas passion to help
the Indians seems purely genuine to me. Although at times reading the book I became frustrated and
bored (even while I read such brutal details and events) I understand the need for the exaggerations
and over done dramatics. Even though it is not 100% true that De Las Casas witnessed all the horrible
events that he described it is true that they did occur. The means justifies the end in this case and the
need for attention at this time to the terrible treatment of the Natives was worth the repetitive and at

describing the strict use of plants or plant extracts that may be ingested or applied to the skin to treat

so are their symptoms, side effects and harmful substances used to produce them. These days herbal

substance, wrong, the patients are not the ones at fault and neither are the doctors, people are
following the directions, the bolded print on the back and the prescriptions given, but are still dying.
Sadly, this is occurring because doctors simply are unable to know how every single one of our bodies
reacts to a certain medicine causing different symptoms and side effects and some unable to withhold
the prescripted amount. This is exactly why people avoid pharmaceutical drugs, they are dangerous,
unpredictable, and at times fatal. Herbal medicines are a newer face to medicine, but have already met

Living A Healthy Lifestyle
Developing healthy behaviors can lead to a healthier lifestyle, but living a healthier life is an ongoing
process. Oftentimes people believe that they have achieved a healthy lifestyle once they have fixed
one specific health problem, but this is simply not true. In order to develop and achieve a healthy
lifestyle, it is pertinent to devote time creating healthy behaviors that can be maintained over an
extended period of time or indefinitely. Moreover, individuals must recognize that their nutrition and
physical activity can impact their health. Individuals who participate in regular physical activity will
see numerous benefits to not only their short term health, but also their long term health. On the other
hand, individuals who live a relatively inactive or sedentary lifestyle can see an increase in the
incidence of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory
diseases (Hoeger, et al. 3). Furthermore, the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have
conducted studies that have found that almost 80 percent of the latter deaths could be prevented
through a healthy lifestyle program (Hoeger, et al. 3).

The evidence table was set up to visualize the data from different sources obtained during the research process. The data synthesis divides the various numbers of researches distinctly based on the main author, publication date, study design, study population, data collection method and finally the outcome/results of the study. In a year, roughly 500 Americans die after decisions by their surrogates to limit life support (White, 2009). One of the most important and difficult decisions the family of a patient on life support has to make is at what point they should withhold or withdraw life sustaining treatment. A study showed that there appears to be no solid preference as to whether family members prefer to receive recommendations from the physician when deciding to limit patient life support (White, 2009). More specifically, the results of this study revealed that 56% (96/169) of surrogate decision makers preferred to get recommendations from the physician; while 42% (70/169) did not (White, 2009). Sixty four percent of surrogates (34/50) expressed doubt about the accuracy of physicians futility predictions; while 32% decided to continue treatment even with just a 1% survival estimate, and 18% of surrogates elected to continue treatment despite physicians beliefs of no chance of survival (Zier, et al, ... • 6. Essay on Justice vs. Morality in Measure for Measure and... Justice vs. Morality in Measure for Measure and Merchant of Venice There are many similarities shared between Shakespeare s plays, Measure for Measure , and The Merchant of Venice . The underlying theme of each work is well defined by the phrase Justice without the temperance of mercy, is power misused . I will support this claim by drawing upon some of the characters and situations that are consistent in each story. In each story a man s life depends on the interpretation, and sanctioning of justice. In the, Merchant of Venice , Antonio (who I believe represents mercy), had sealed a bond with Shylock offering a pound of his flesh for the loan of three thousand ducats. Unfortunately he forfeits this bond, (Merchant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Antonio it was his love of Bassanio and his strong desire to see him prosper, (Merchant I,i) ... In both situations cases are made not necessarily to debunk justice, however instead to allow for judgment interwoven with mercy. For Antonio s sake Portia (acting as Balthazar), offers Shylock a plea of humanity, (Merchant IV,i) The quality of mercy is not strain d,... Tis mightiest in the mightiest... It is enthroned in the heart of kings, It is an attribute to God himself... , yet none of this causes Shylock to sway from his original position, (Merchant IV,i) My deeds upon my head! Go to your bosom, Knock there, and ask your heart what it doth know That s like my brother s fault... . Now the plot in this story is much thicker, and Angelo had another agenda (i.e.. getting Isabella in bed), her plea s ended with the same result as those of Portia, (Measure II,iv) Nay, but hear me, Your sense pursues not mine... , Then must your brother die . Similarities Between Rape Fantasies And The Other Place The short stories Rape Fantasies and The Other Place are both short stories that have ominous sounding titles and are both different but I many ways very similar. Rape Fantasies, as you can guess, is about the very taboo subject of rape. Furthermore, The Other Place is about violence subject matter and taboo subjects of violence involving the narrator and his son s violent thoughts. The short stories Rape Fantasies and The Other Place are similar pieces of work due to their similarities in the way they narrate their own stories, have fantasies about violence, and believe their behavior is abnormal. Both short stories are narrated by one person throughout each of their own separate short stories. Both must divulge their own fantasies about their own stories and use great about of descriptions and imagery that make you feel the mood of the story. In the other places, the narrator talks about the violent drawing his son has been making and connects it to his own violent tendencies to when he was young. Mostly, though, he draws pictures of men holding guns, or men hanging from nooses. Or men cutting up other men with chainsaws in these pictures there are no faces, just figures holding chainsaws and figures being cut in two, with blood spraying out (). This imagery told by the narrator in the story shows the violence of his child and the lack empathy he shows, but the father isn t as effected as he should be by his sons lack of empathy. • 9. The Transformation Of Class And Occupational Structure Of... At this time, the descendant of Mathew Maule, Holgrave, lives with Hepzibah in the decrepit mansion. However, unlike Hepzibah, Maule is healthy and thriving during the industrialization. With the social change of the nineteenth century, Maule is given the opportunity to become more than the past would have ever allowed his ancestors, [who were] generally poverty stricken; always plebeian and obscure; working with unsuccessful diligence at handicrafts (Hawthorne 15). In Colonel Pyncheon s time, the Maule family was in the poor plebian class and easily erasable by the Colonel. Now Maule not only lives in the Pyncheon mansion but is prospering better than Hepzibah. Holgrave s occupation is also different from his ancestor s carpentry work. He is a daguerreotypist; the first profession to successfully create photographs. Melanie Archer, author of Class Formation in Nineteenth century America: The Case of the Middle Class, states that in the nineteenth century...The development of the middle class is rooted in the transformation of class and occupational structure (3). Holgrave s profession coincides with his and the emerging middle class s progressive personalities and drive. Biological Effects Of Grounding On The Body Grounding has shown to affect inflammation, chronic pain, cardiovascular function, and other biological processes (Chevalier, Sinatra, Oshman Delany, 2013). It was hypothesized that those who electrically ground themselves with the natural world around them would be in an elevated, happier mood. Findings from the research conducted did not support this hypothesis. Results were not consistent with the previous research conducted on the effects of grounding on the physical body; however, research on the psychological effects of grounding the body has not been conducted on a large scale. Cain had gain fame in 1934 with his popular novel The Postman Always Rings Twice, and tried to get Hollywood interested in making Double Indemnity, but it couldn t pass the Hays Codes, not until Billy Wilder s produced a tone down treatment and hiring Raymond Chandler to craft a skillful screenplay that pleased everyone. Billy Wilder directed Double Indemnity in a controlled purposeful manner, the audience is merely an observer through the camera lens, eavesdropping on two despicable people plotting murder, as noted by Hirsch, There seems to be no world outside the frame, and there are almost no other people on view besides the principals (Hirsch 6). • 12. Language In Rabbit Proof Fence Rabbit Proof Fence is a movie directed by Phillip Noyce based on the novel by Doris Pilkington Garimara. In the excerpt, The Stealing of Children, it shows the offspring of the indigenous people being taken away from their parents as the white settlers thought they weren t being treated properly. Events like these occurred from 1910 1970 in Australia s history. Many aboriginal children didn t want to be taken away and the fictional story, based on real events, of Rabbit Proof Fence has been created from the point of view of those people living at this time. The director has created many representations of Aboriginal people through the use of language features, visual elements and the audio components. The language features of The Stealing of Children give many representations of the indigenous people. One of these devices is repetition. Once the aboriginals were trapped by Constable Riggs, Maude repeatedly shouted the word, No! . • 13. To What Extent Did The American Colonists Refuse To Let... Thomas Jefferson once said, If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so. Citizens of any government are often subject to unjust, unreasonable legislation that they are required to follow but are they? In fact, in order to uphold a government that reflects the will of the people, citizens must protest unfair laws by deliberately disobeying them. This method often results in immediate change, would help to ban immoral laws that can be dangerous to some groups of people, and upholds the entire idea of a fair government: to let the people rule. The first major benefit of a group of people disobeying a law is that it usually results in quick change, either by the government receding to the wishes of the people or by more people joining the movement in order to overthrow the government, which creates huge change. One historic example of this was when some of the American colonists refused to obey the Intolerable Acts that Britain imposed on them as punishment for the Boston Tea Party. Ultimately, the Intolerable Acts of 1774 were the catalyst for the American Revolution. By refusing to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This principle is upheld by Henry David Thoreau s statement that Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves. Thoreau explains here that the only way for citizens to be truly free is to stand up to their government. Memory and Reality in Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie Memory and Reality in Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie Being a memory play, it is dimly lighted, it is sentimental, it is not realistic . To what degree is the play memory and to what degree is it realistic? When a play employs unconventional techniques, it is not trying to escape its responsibility of dealing with reality, or interpreting experience, but is actually attempting to find a closer approach, a more penetrating and vivid expression of things as they are (Tennessee Williams). The Glass Menagerie is one of Tennessee Williams most eminent works and no doubt qualifies as a classic of the modern theater. Often referred to as a memory play , both the style and content of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite being a memory play , the basis and content of The Glass Menagerie is truth and reality as Williams attempts to find a closer approach, a more penetrating and vivid expression of things as they are . This basis of reality is evident in the play s setting, as The Glass Menagerie is presented with great fidelity to the social and historical realities of the time. This is demonstrated from the play s beginning as Tom reverses time to that quaint period, the thirties , and juxtaposes the turmoil in Spain to the uneasy peace in America, in an allusion to the forthcoming war (World War II). There are other allusions to the war throughout the play, such as in Tom s closing speech as he claims the world is lit by lightning . It is clear that the historical realities of the time are effectively conveyed in the play, although it is not only the war related realities of the time that Williams highlights. Williams presentation of the social realities of the period is clear with the bleak lower middle class life in America, portrayed by the Wingfield family. It lives near the bottoms of inshore ponds and bays and other shallow, tropical waters. The upside down jellyfish can be found in sandy mudflats as well. It is native to the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, but has also been introduced to the Pacific Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. The upside down jellyfish appears very different than other jellies; they have a green/gray color to them opposed to the usual red, blue or violet. It works like a camouflage, as it makes them appear to be a sea anemone or a bush. They have radial symmetry, meaning that if cut into wedges, it would produce roughly the same result. The medusa has four branching tentacles used for feeding. It also has a depression on its bell that is used to attach to the ground since some of the jellyfish remain sedentary for most of its life. • 16. Symbolism In The Swimmer By John Cheever By the time the alcohol touches the tongue, the storm has already begun. John Cheever s relationship with alcohol presents itself throughout the short story The Swimmer , and uses the character, Ned Merrill, to represent the struggles he was experiencing. Addiction and the need for alcohol drove this character into a storm he couldn t retreat from. In The Swimmer Cheever uses a physical storm and the changes in the weather to show the path of drinking and becoming an alcoholic. The short story begins with joy and excitement, then turns into something casual and frequent, but eventually leads to misfortune and a misery. Nobody desires to be led to an unpleasant storm, that comes with drinking alcohol. Cheever uses nature and the storms to represent the life of an alcoholic. Drinking may not seem to be so bad at first, but the consequences come later in the journey. John Cheever begins this short story with an initial sign of casual drinking. Ned Merrill and his wife are accompanied by friends who all say they drank too much last night as if they were all drinking together (Cheever 726). Right from the beginning, Cheever gives readers the hint that characters from this story drink a lot. He makes it a part of the social norm, so it seems to be something done on the regular. Before Ned decides to begin a journey to swim the Lucinda River, he notices the weather. Cheever directs the focus to the fact that it was a fine day. In the west there was a massive stand of cumulus cloud so like a city seen from a distance , marking the beginning of the storm (726). Looking into the West, a place of death and misfortune, are where fluffy and cotton like clouds are on display. In literature, the West is often symbolic of death and dying since the sun sets over that horizon. A time where leaves and plants die, and the start of darkness. Those clouds may look peaceful, but they represent the beginning of a storm coming from the disastrous West. Eventually, the fun and laughter turn into something normal and boring, and drinking more serves to reanimate his social interactions. Unfortunately, those problems are only gone for a little while, and Ned Merrill finds this out the hard way by continuing his journey. Each house ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was in the 1800 s when the most significant forms of computing were built, and as a result the amazing computers we have today were pioneered. One of the earliest inventions of the 1800 s, was the first electrical telegraph built by Samuel Soemerring. His mother Johann Thomas Soemmering was a physicist and that was most likely his main source of motivation. You look down and see your ten year old son or daughter lying on the floor just staring at the TV, taking it all in. You begin channel surfing, and end up on channel 3, CBS. There is a brand new sitcom being aired called Some of My Best Friends . Almost immediately after you and your family begin viewing this program, two men, both proclaiming to be gay, begin kissing and embracing each other. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In one episode, one of the main characters ended up sleeping with his date even though they had just met each other the day before and had only gone out on one date. In the very same episode, another of the main characters had sex with a woman that he had just met less than ten minutes before. In reality, the norm (or the desired norm) is to wait until a couple has been going out for a while and gets to know each other better before having sex. In some cases, it is the norm to wait until marriage before having sex. There are many exceptions to these norms, but most people like to believe that they hold true. Another aspect that is falsely portrayed is the representation of love and sex. This show sends several different messages about love and sex, some of them completely contradicting the others. The one thing that caught my attention the most though, was the act of casual sex, or the act of sex without love. In one of the episodes mentioned earlier, one of the main characters had slept with a woman he only had met the day before. The following morning, the main character told his roommate that, [Their] relationship had no spark , and [he] only slept with her because she was willing to do so . This proves that in this show, most relationships are based on sexual attraction, instead of cognitive relationships. Then he asked his roommate to break up with the woman for him, since he had to leave. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Historical Accuracy Of The Movie Gladiator The movie and film industry is known for putting unnecessary amounts of drama into productions to keep the audience s attention and gain maximum amounts of profit. Historical drama films are typically more about the entertainment than the historical accuracy. The production Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott in 2000 is a good example of this but in this film, there are some parts that are historically accurate. The movie Gladiator is an epic historical drama film that takes place in Ancient Rome, where a General by the name of Maximus Decimus Meridius was declared successor to the ill Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The Emperor wanted Maximus to restore Rome to a republic. However, the Emperor s son, Commodus was not happy with his father s decision ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Bartolome de Las Casas Book Review An Account much abbreviated of the destruction of the Indies, Indianapolis, IN, Hackett Publishing Company INC., 2003 Bartolme De Las Casas is an interesting character. His passion for people who at the time were seen as a sub species of humans (if even human at all) is remarkable. De Las Casas came from a modest family and was well educated. He was brought into the world of the America s through his father Pedro De Las Casas who was an encomiendo himself. His travels through the New World prior to 1510 when he became an ordained priest shaped his crusade to defend the Natives. There are many clues in this book which point to the exaggeration of its content. For instance at one point De Las Casas goes as far as to say that 12 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... De Las Casas did affect King Charles the 5th and in 1542 after reading Brevisima Relacion he quickly created the New Laws which conveniently put an end to some of the rights of the encomienda which the monarch felt gave too much power to Spanish land owners in the Americas. De Las Casas gave the King the perfect excuse to take power back from the encomiendos justifying it with Christianity which the Spanish monarchs were responsible to uphold. The political system of the time and its relation to the Catholic Church makes every situation involving members of the clergy to have political repercussions. The royals used De Las Casas to take power back for them selves; De Las Casas used his political leverage and the crowns responsibility to protect the values of Christianity to aid his cause. While it is clear what the monarchs gain from De Las Casas was, De Las Casas passion to help the Indians seems purely genuine to me. Although at times reading the book I became frustrated and bored (even while I read such brutal details and events) I understand the need for the exaggerations and over done dramatics. Even though it is not 100% true that De Las Casas witnessed all the horrible events that he described it is true that they did occur. The means justifies the end in this case and the need for attention at this time to the terrible treatment of the Natives was worth the repetitive and at times ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Herbal Medicine Vs. Herbal Medicines A natural drug because it is derived from nature is beginning to emerge at a faster rate and is known as the alternative medicine or herbal medicines. Botanical medicine or Herbalism is another way of describing the strict use of plants or plant extracts that may be ingested or applied to the skin to treat illness and assist the bodily functions (Herbalism). Pharmaceutical drugs are said to be inevitable, but so are their symptoms, side effects and harmful substances used to produce them. These days herbal medicine is marketed aggressively across the world, so it s a good time to take a look at why this is, and what advantages herbal medicine can offer over prescription drugs. Herbal remedies are gradually becoming more accepting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So we automatically think, oh, they were not supposed to take these drugs or they abused the substance, wrong, the patients are not the ones at fault and neither are the doctors, people are following the directions, the bolded print on the back and the prescriptions given, but are still dying. Sadly, this is occurring because doctors simply are unable to know how every single one of our bodies reacts to a certain medicine causing different symptoms and side effects and some unable to withhold the prescripted amount. This is exactly why people avoid pharmaceutical drugs, they are dangerous, unpredictable, and at times fatal. Herbal medicines are a newer face to medicine, but have already met the standards and exceeded the expectations of pharmaceutical drugs because you are unable to overdose on a plant, and no synthesized chemicals are included with these because it is 100% derived from nature and these medicines only turn symptom filled and fatal when the scientists get their hands on them. Nature is our friend and so are herbal remedies. Along with the synthesized chemicals used to produce these drugs they fail in the category of availability as well. For one, these drugs need scientists, doctors, physicians, pharmacists and many other highly educated individuals to make just one pill. • 42. Living A Healthy Lifestyle Developing healthy behaviors can lead to a healthier lifestyle, but living a healthier life is an ongoing process. Oftentimes people believe that they have achieved a healthy lifestyle once they have fixed one specific health problem, but this is simply not true. In order to develop and achieve a healthy lifestyle, it is pertinent to devote time creating healthy behaviors that can be maintained over an extended period of time or indefinitely. Moreover, individuals must recognize that their nutrition and physical activity can impact their health. Individuals who participate in regular physical activity will see numerous benefits to not only their short term health, but also their long term health. On the other hand, individuals who live a relatively inactive or sedentary lifestyle can see an increase in the incidence of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases (Hoeger, et al. 3). Furthermore, the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have conducted studies that have found that almost 80 percent of the latter deaths could be prevented through a healthy lifestyle program (Hoeger, et al. 3). About a year ago, I went to the doctor with some health concerns and my doctor requested that I have a blood test done. Through these tests, my doctor discovered that I have a high cholesterol of 256 mg/dL. She explained that she was mainly concerned with the fact that my LDL cholesterol was high at 147 mg/dL. ...
