Many times plot development is thought of as a key detail in keeping a story
organized, while others would say that plot structure tends to add too much order to
a piece of work and hinder the reader from exploring true creativity. A great example
of these two contrasting ideas is illustrated in Amy Tan s well known novel The Joy
Luck Club. Although some could argue that there is no definite plot structure
portrayed at all within the book, this is not true. A slight plot lies within each
individual short story. While there might not be an overall rising and falling action
connected throughout the novel, an exposition, climax, and resolution are clearly
illustrated in each story.

morning. While walking down the row of seats I found myself searching for the
seat without trash, or holes in the seat. While on my train ride I noticed by
surroundings. The vast amount of different people on the train amazed me. There
was an elderly gentleman on my right, and in the seat in front of me was a man who
did not have the most pleasant scent. Noticing people eating, coughing, or sleeping
and drooling on the window I quickly came to the realization of how many germs are
on this train. Things such as public transportplay a role in public healthsignificantly.
With all of the germs on public transportation people can pick up things easily. For
example, the measles outbreak that was in Disney World, could be picked up
through public transportation. People touching poles, seats, could pose the risk of
spreading many communicable diseases. I personally do not believe that public
transportation does a great job in the sanitation department. However, on the flip side
public transportation is also beneficial to public health. According to the APHA
people located near major highways and road ways have an increase in respiratory
illness due to the amount of pollution. Therefore, by taking public transportation such
as the train, or subway this reduces the amount of pollution causes by cars, trucks,

and height of the ramp were measured in meters, while the time it took the cart to

and soul of the melting pot, they know that the idea of diverse and equal identities in

Changez exclaimed that the patriotic symbols plastered everywhere seemed to
proclaim: We are America not New York, which, in my opinion, means something
quite different the mightiest civilization the world has ever known; you have
slighted us; beware our wrath (Hamid 79). This acknowledgment of patriotism
shows that Changez felt his culture was overwhelmed and belittled by America s
response to the attacks. Changez s feelings of lack of identity in American culture
was not just felt by him, in a qualitative study called Understanding the experiences
of discrimination in Muslim Americans post 9/11 , Dr. Zaman questioned other
Middle Eastern Americans about how their identity changed by living in America
after 9/11. One lady responded by saying I just don t feel that Americans accept me
as an American. They look at me, or people with a similar background, that we re
some outsiders intruding their country (Zaman 82). By using the quote, Dr. Zaman
shows how other people of the Middle Eastern minorities felt detached in American
society after 9/11. This patriotic response made it hard for individuals just like
Changez to have a sense of belonging in the American mainstream culture of post 9
/11. Even through all the persecution that faced Changez after 9/11, he was still able
to make a successful use of non violent activism to fight for a sense of identity in the
mainstream culture.

Ethics Standards And The Field Of Accounting
Professional ethics are an absolute necessity in the field of accounting. Businesses
rely on accountants to accurately report their financial information and give sound
advise and consultation in regards to their business. There are standards and rules
set in place to ensure that ethics and information is reported accurately. Laws and
repercussions are created place to deter unethical and illegal accounting practices,
although it still occurs in the business world on many levels. The field of
accounting has a code of ethics for very important reasons. Investors and creditors
need assurance that the financials of the company they are investing in are accurate.
If the financials of a company are not created accurately or if the information is
falsified and inaccurate, investors and creditors have the potential to lose lots of
money. Ethics standards and controls have increased in more recent years due to a
number of scandals between large corporations. Enron is one of the most known
examples, as many investors lost enormous amounts of money and life savings due to
embezzlement and falsifications from the company and the accountants handling the
financials. Accountants in each state must register with the state boards in order to
legally practice in that state. These boards relay ethical standards that certified
accountants are expected to adhere. An accountant s license can be suspended if the
