       Linear Perspective
 Assignment: Architecture of the Mind

         From the assigned class work, lecture and demonstration, you should now have a
working understanding of one and two point linear perspective. Your assignment is to invent and
depict a fictional architectural/geometric form using 2 point linear perspective. The form can be
floating in space like the Dali piece or attached to the ground; it can also be a combination of the
two. Your vanishing points should be placed off the page you are working on- this will allow your
form to occupy a majority of the image. Keep in mind that your point of view should be from a
low spot (worms-eye), so that the form seems to loom large in the sky. This is achieved by
keeping the horizon line very low on your paper. Also you should keep the forms idealized, do
not add details like texture, windows, signage, etc. etc. I would like the shapes to be indicated
not by a cartoon line, but a crisp shift in value. This can be achieved using the scotch-removable
tape as a mask, fitted according to the method demonstrated in class. Determine the direction
of light in your piece, and shade the rectilinear planes accordingly. Make your forms as complex
as you can.

It is also important to add some creative elements in the landscape or sky. Points will be
subtracted if you fail to develop the space surrounding the architecture. Use of atmospheric
perspective to indicate spatial depth is highly recommended.




Objectives:
       Demonstrate a complete understanding of two point linear perspective.
       Use and understand tonal value as a tool for 3-dimensional depictions.
       Creativity and imagination.
       Overall technical proficiency and a high level of craftsmanship.

Grading Rubric:
CONCEPT/DESIGN (60 pts) : The project is well conceived and displays an understanding
       of the assignment. Your composition is successful, you make good use of light logic and value,
       you have successfully linear perspective.
       CRAFT/PROFESSIONALISM (20pts): The project is well crafted there are no blemishes,
       scratches or scuffs that distract the viewer. You have rendered completely, and it does not
       appear to be incomplete.
       CREATIVITY/ORIGINALITY (20pts) Is your design unique and original, or simply a rote
       copie of the examples given? Have you chosen an interesting landscape or context for your
       architecture?

Two Point Perspective INSTRUCTIONS de Beaufort

  • 1. Drawing 1 de Beaufort Linear Perspective Assignment: Architecture of the Mind From the assigned class work, lecture and demonstration, you should now have a working understanding of one and two point linear perspective. Your assignment is to invent and depict a fictional architectural/geometric form using 2 point linear perspective. The form can be floating in space like the Dali piece or attached to the ground; it can also be a combination of the two. Your vanishing points should be placed off the page you are working on- this will allow your form to occupy a majority of the image. Keep in mind that your point of view should be from a low spot (worms-eye), so that the form seems to loom large in the sky. This is achieved by keeping the horizon line very low on your paper. Also you should keep the forms idealized, do not add details like texture, windows, signage, etc. etc. I would like the shapes to be indicated not by a cartoon line, but a crisp shift in value. This can be achieved using the scotch-removable tape as a mask, fitted according to the method demonstrated in class. Determine the direction of light in your piece, and shade the rectilinear planes accordingly. Make your forms as complex as you can. It is also important to add some creative elements in the landscape or sky. Points will be subtracted if you fail to develop the space surrounding the architecture. Use of atmospheric perspective to indicate spatial depth is highly recommended. Objectives: Demonstrate a complete understanding of two point linear perspective. Use and understand tonal value as a tool for 3-dimensional depictions. Creativity and imagination. Overall technical proficiency and a high level of craftsmanship. Grading Rubric:
  • 2. CONCEPT/DESIGN (60 pts) : The project is well conceived and displays an understanding of the assignment. Your composition is successful, you make good use of light logic and value, you have successfully linear perspective. CRAFT/PROFESSIONALISM (20pts): The project is well crafted there are no blemishes, scratches or scuffs that distract the viewer. You have rendered completely, and it does not appear to be incomplete. CREATIVITY/ORIGINALITY (20pts) Is your design unique and original, or simply a rote copie of the examples given? Have you chosen an interesting landscape or context for your architecture? 100 points total
