The African-American Nightmare Exposed in Black...
African American Nightmare Exposed in Olaudah Equiano, Narrative of Frederick Douglass, Song of
Solomon, and Push
The American Dream was founded on the concept that all men are created equal (Jefferson 729) and
that everyone has the capability and resources to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. The
Declaration of Independence was written so Americans could achieve this dream, but was not written
with the African slave in mind. The African slave was never intended to be a part of this American
Dream, therefore, not capable of obtaining it. These slaves were beaten up and/or lynched by their
massas with these bootstraps instead of being pulled up by them.
Even after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This note was the promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the
unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (Washington 217).
King s dream does not happen in his time, nor does he expect it to happen. It is the dream deferred:
I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American Dream, that one day this nation will
rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed we hold these truths to be self evident, that all men
are created equal...(219).
Themes of the Dream and dreaming are often seen in the works of African American literature. This
Dream Theme starts with the slave narratives of Frederick Douglass and Olaudah Equiano written in
the 1800s, and then moves on into more contemporary literature such as in Toni Morrison s novel,
Song of Solomon and Sapphire s Push.
In his narrative, Douglass, often spent

everything that is happening, and no one can betray him. Brahma does not carry any weapons with

War Of The Worlds Chapter 1 Summary
War of the Worlds Chapter One Despite its location, Dot s Donut Shop was about to get famous. I
mean, being the crash site for the second wave of aliens on earth can earn quite the reputation, and
what are the odds I would be working there that very day? Well, to understand my position entirely,
we need to go back to the beginning. In 1939, the U.S. declared itself a neutral country in the
European conflict that would come to be known as World War II. In 1941, Franklin Roosevelt became
the first and only president elected for three terms. Later that year, Japan attacked the U.S. at Pearl
Harbor. These events spiraled into the earth changing event that was the bombing of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki. Many scientists believe this to be the event that caused the Invasion, as it sent some sort of
radioactive wave throughout the galaxy. Although people tend to may disagree with each other, there
was no doubt that it was a devastating blow to the entire world. The Roswell crash in 1947 was the
first contact we had with any species not from Earth. Although the creature didn t survive long enough
to greet us, it seems it was alive long enough to send a distress signal, calling the rest of its friends. We
scavenged what we could from the wreckage, using it to create new technologies that advanced our
world by a couple hundred years. What would have taken us 100 ... Show more content on

As I was checking out in the backroom of Dot s Donut Shop, I heard a massive explosion rock the
building. I stumbled back into the main room, but it was empty. It seems the two customers and one
other worker left in a rush. I burst through the glass doors so hard that I almost fell down. I ran left of
the entrance to investigate the explosion. I figured a gas line had burst, or a car had malfunctioned and
crashed. I certainly didn t expect to see something I had seen in a museum. Honestly, what I saw was
one of the least likely things someone in this day and age would

Role Of Imperialism In Rwanda
At the end of World War I, Belgium accepted the League of Nations authorization to govern the
Ruanda Urundi territory. Which later became Rwanda and Burundi. Two separate territories. Prior to
Belgian rule, the African native people coexisted amongst each other and lived in peace under the
same religion and spoke the same language. That was until the Belgian caused division amongst the
people. They divided the people based on physical features. The Belgium announced that the Tutsis
were more superior due to their visible features which included those with longer pointier noses,
lighter skin, those who were taller, and had more elegance. The Hutus were the opposite. They were;
dark, short and strong. They weren t exactly sophisticated. Government ... Show more content on

Later that night, the massacre truly took place. The Hutus decided what the country needed was not
constant retaliations from the Tutsis, but an ethnic cleansing.Soldiers and militia sent messages
throughout the country via radio, to carry out a wave of killings. They vigorously slaughtered almost
an entire generation of Tutsis. Raped Tutsi women, and murdered the Tutsi children as they refuse to
allow next generation Tutsis to reborn. While innocent people were being executed by machetes and
guns, neither the Belgian soldiers, the British nor the UN interfered. When they realized the rebels
were getting out of control they evacuated all the foreigners out of the country and abandoned the
Africans. It wasn t until the very end, 100 days later after almost a million people were
manslaughtered, did the Belgian soldiers came and rescue certain Africans Tutsis and Hutus. In July
1994 the holocaust ended as the Tutsi rebels drove away the Hutu maniacs. In conclusion, the atrocity
that was the Rwandan genocide was caused by hatred. Insanity fed the so called ethnic cleansing. A
million bloody corpse covered the streets of Rwanda, during this time period. Families lost, children
left scared. This redundant annihilation would ve never occurred if the Belgians just left things as they

Analysis Of Dulce Et Decorum Est By Wilfred Owen, And...
Man s Inhumanity to man
Introduction
DULCE ET DECORUM EST by Wilfred Owen, and This Blinding Absence of Light by Tahar Ben
Jelloun, are both powerful texts that give the reader sympathy and strong emotional experiences.
When comparing the two texts, there are multiple aspects that they share, for example they both
convey a strong message on survival and what it s like to be faced with death, however the setting,
symbolism and themes like hope, and the power of thought are very different. The novel This Blinding
Absence of Light is set in the Tazmamart prison in Morocco, where Salim, a prisoner of war, was held
captive with 18 other men for 20 years. When confined in a small, pitch black chamber, with only
starchy food, sludgy water and what hope they have left, Salim and the men are pushed to their limits
of survival under such harsh conditions. Throughout the novel Salim goes on both a mental and
physical journey to come at peace with himself, which shapes his perspective of what life means. The
text DULCE ET DECORUM EST is set in World War 1 when a group of British soldiers are attacked
with chlorine gas. In the rush upon the shells of gas exploding, one soldier does not get his mask on in
time. Wilfred Owen portrays in detail the gruesome effects of the gas upon this man and concludes
that one may not have the same opinion after being exposed to the first hand reality of war.

IBM s diversity strategy is not limited to some but to all managers in the IBM workforce. (Shaw,
2008) The diversification strategy for Abercrombie and Fitch has been unsuccessful in past years.
Some just don t get it and some never will. That is how some in the corporate world looked at
Abercrombie and Fitch. A amp;F has on several occasions been sued for their lack of diversity within
their organizations in the area of discrimination. The first lawsuit in 2001 came about when A amp;F
failed to hire minorities and women to work during the daytime in their stores. Those who were hired
that were women and minorities worked the nightshift which consisted of cleaning the building and
were told by store employees to never come to A amp;F until after the store was closed. After a
thorough investigation conducted by the Los Angeles District Office of the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission (EEOC), A amp;F was found to have thrown away applications that should
have been kept on hand for at least a year or more to cover up their hiring practices. (Esemplane,

shoppers who fit the A amp;F image. The image of A amp;F is one who is blonde hair and blue eyed.

The Parents Role in School Shootings Essay
When children commit a horrible act such as a school shooting their parents often look for someone or
something to blame rather than looking at what role they, as parents, may have had in the tragedy. The
often targeted entertainers, video game developers, teachers, drug companies, and writers are rarely, if
ever, responsible for such tragic outcomes and, unfortunately, often become victims as a result of
lawsuits filed in an attempt to place blame on them. The parents of dangerous children must be
scrutinized and sued alongside every other entity being blamed for the heinous crimes that children
commit.

Before the 1999 Columbine tragedy, there was the 14 year old boy in Paducah, Kentucky who, in
1997, went on a shooting spree at his local school. Parents of 3 of the shooting victims filed lawsuits
against 25 media companies seeking $130 million in damages, citing that the shooter, Michael
Carneal, learned how to shoot a gun by playing video and computer games. The lawsuits further
implied that violent movies and internet pornography were to blame for the boy s behavior
(Holmstrom, par. 6).
In both the Columbine and the Paducah, Kentucky cases the parents of the shooters were sued on the
grounds that they should have known, and prevented, the tragedies from occurring. According to an
article written by Mark Walsh regarding the Paducah shooting, a state law negligence suit named 45
defendants, including McCracken County...teachers...who allegedly failed to interpret warning signals

the McCracken County School District was dismissed by Judge William Shadoan, citing, We cannot
expect those teachers and administrators to be psychiatrists, lawyers, psychologists, or physicians

Mirvish s Discount Store History
If you re from Toronto, chances are you re familiar with the flashing bright entrance and quirky
handwritten signs of Honest Ed s. The iconic establishment was initially opened up as a discount store
in 1948 by Ed Mirvish but has since become one of the cities most well known landmarks for tourists
and locals alike. Located on the corner of Bloor and Bathurst, the kitsch department stores twenty
three thousand bulb sign isn t the only interesting thing about the place; the merchandise inside ranges
from tube socks to gold Elvis busts, each advertised with a unique hand painted sign. It was hard news
for some Torontonians to hear that after serving the city for over sixty years, Honest Ed plans to close
its doors on December 31, of this year ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mirvish family was left with the massive store that was losing its sales while the value of its real
estate rose, making it s sale almost inevitable.
The Vancouver based developer who purchased the site revealed their hopes of using the space to
build a 1000 unit rental project there, including parks, public squares and childcare facilities.
To commemorate its vibrant history, the TTC has give Bathurst station a makeover, replacing all the
signs with hand written ones, and covering the walls with cheeky statements that would make Ed
Mirvish proud such as Been there Dundas.
The installation is said to last until the end of this year but there is some discussion as to making it
permanent. The idea was thought up by TTC manager of customer service, Chris Upfold who stated,
The store was there before the subway. It was there when we were running streetcars on Bloor. We
helped customers and staff get to Honest Ed s then, and we ll continue to serve the residents of the
new development in the future,
Honest Ed s was much more than a department store, it has been a landmark, and not just because of
its design or notable discount store model, but because of it s significant engagement with the

Speech Understanding Software
In the past computers were completely impractical and never thought to be used for personal reasons.
Today computers are a common household item easily accessible to anyone. In the future the
computer will be even more focused around the user creating less work for the user. This future will
be made possible through Human Centric computing. Human centric computing will make computers
easy to work with. The main focus is to create a world where computers are everywhere and easy to
use. One method of creating a more human interface is by implementing speech understanding
software. This software is already improving at an amazing pace.

The future of speech understanding software as a natural interface to 800 line and online services is
bright, especially when the company can set it up so that it has to deal with a limited index of words.
Tellme isn t alone in supplying speech understanding technology, but it s leading the pack and
promises to get even better in the near future.
What about speech understanding software on a personal level? Many feel there is no potential and it
doesn t work well. This is not true at all, if used properly the speech understanding software does an
excellent job at allowing the user to speak while the program writes it down.
In the past the best speech understanding products were designed and sold by Dragon Systems. The
earlier programs weren t great, but they were good enough to start with. Later Dragon sold itself to
their competition, Lernout and Hauspie. Lernout and Hauspie s products were good, but when they
started plugging in some of the Dragon technology into the their own products, they got even better.

Why Do Christians Need To Read The Old Testament
Many contemporary Christians feel that the Old Testament does not apply to them because they are
living under a New Covenant with new requisites, and that the Old Testament has a far off God and
not like the personal narrative of God in the New Testament with Jesus or the Holy Spirit. However,
Christians need to understand that the Old Testament is not just about covenants and requisites, but the
Old Testament is about God connecting to His people so that they might draw closer to Him.
Christians ought to read the Old Testament to keep God s commands, to understand that He does not
change, and to learn how the Old Testament applies to their faith. Hence, Christians should understand
the context of the Old Testament better to comprehend what the text is saying about God and His
children drawing closer.
Thus, Christians should read the Old Testament because the Old ... Show more content on

However, it s important to understand that God will reward us for wanting to grow closer to Him. As
Hill and Walton put it, If God is the source of the Old Testament, it can be understood as possessing
authority, We study Scripture because we expect to get an authoritative word from God, not the
subjective opinions of people, however valuable or true the latter may be. Authority is what makes the
Old Testament more than just fine literature (pg 26). Therefore the key to why Christians must read
the Old Testament is because of the authority from God it has, and thus through reading his scripture
we are rewarded with words from God. Also, similarly to Abraham, God will use this reward to
further his plan. Therefore, when we look at scripture, with context and understanding, we must
understand that the Bible is the supreme authoritative

Health Disparities Among Homeless Women And Their Children
Health Disparities Among Homeless Women and Their Children

Cohort C Health Disparities Among Homeless Women and Their Children
Health care disparities is known for its vulnerability among low income and minority status
populations. Of most concern are the vulnerable population subgroups known by the harsh
environments in which they live, their endangered and unhealthy life styles and the illnesses and
injuries that afflict them. These subpopulations include refugees and immigrants, people living with
acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), alcohol and substance abusers, high risk mothers and
infants, victims of family or other violence, and the chronically ill (Teruya, Longshore, Andersen,
Arangua, Nyamathi, Leake Gelberg, 2010, p.1). Among these vulnerable sub populations, one with
some of the greatest health and health care disparities, is the homeless especially homeless women and
their children (Teruya et al., 2010, p.1).
People often think that homelessness only affects men and women but in reality homelessness also
affects families It is estimated that 3.5 million Americans experience homelessness every year. Among
this group, 17 percent are single women and 30 percent are families with children (Finfgeld Connet,
2010, p.1). It is said that women along with their children are among the fastest growing homeless
population and not only does it impact women but it also impacts their children significantly.

The Causes Of Al Qaeda And The Attack Of September 11
On September 11, 2001 the United States was attacked by terrorist group name Al Qaeda, they
hijacked four planes and planned on crashing them into American landmarks. Two of the four planes
crashed into the World Trade Center, one plane crashed into the the Pentagon, the last plane did not
make it to intended landmark but, instead crashed into a field. The terrorist attack on September 11th
could not have necessarily have been prevented but, could not has been as severe. Certain things like
lack of government communication, not very thorough background checks on middle eastern
immigrants, lack of proper preparation for possible terrorist attacks impacted the severity of the
situation. On the day of the attack and months prior the government did not communicate effectively,
so it cause the attack to be much worse. Prior to the event police had been invigilating possible acts of
terrorism that could lead to Zacarias Moussaoui, with all of his information on his computer. Police
applied for a search warrant to search through Moussaoui s computer and were denied, eventually he
was accused of being involved in the attack on September 11th and being in affiliation with Osama
Bin Laden. On the day of Al Qaeda s attack important details were not passed on to the needed
government agency. When the first plane crashed into Tower 1 of the World Trade Center everyone

Eveline By Joyce Essay
In Joyce s, Eveline , most of the story is situated in the mind of the main character, Eveline. Eveline is
characterized as passive, easily influenced, and indecisive. Joyce highlights Eveline s indecisiveness
as she struggles with her immediate predicament; should she leave her abusive father and disobey her
duty as a daughter, or pursue a new life with her potential husband Frank, to be free? As she
contemplates, readers are taken inside Eveline s mind to discover factors from her past and present
that contribute toward her final decision. While Joyce utilizes rich literary devices including
symbolism and dramatic irony, Eveline s final choice is based on what is repressed in her unconscious
mind her mother s last words. Eveline s mother s last word Derevuan Seraun is the deciding factor in
which why Eveline chooses stays home.
Derevuan Seraun is an old Irish Gaelic, translating to at the end of pleasure, there is pain (Tigges 120).
Significant because these are Eveline s mother s last words, it contributes as to why Eveline viewed
her mother s life as a life of commonplace sacrifices closing in final craziness (Joyce 33). Many
commenters argue that Joyce s choice of adding Derevaun Seraun into the short story did not have
purpose and was a smudging of Irish culture given the improbability that a Dublin woman of this time
and class would know Gaelic (Suglia). However, Joyce purposely added the Irish Gaelic as a form of
an allusion. Throughout Eveline,

Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs
Throughout life, one s personality is a very important aspect of that individual s wellbeing. Such
characteristics are not only used by others in attempts to understand their peers, but also determine one
s own satisfaction and view of themselves. People are always attempting to change who they are for
the better, in efforts to live a more satisfying and self fulfilling life through achieving higher personal
needs. With that said, when studying the psychological basis behind one s development and change in
personality, one specific theory and stance seems to explain this phenomenon of bettering one s self;
that of Maslow s hierarchy of needs. This stance, embedded in the humanistic perspective, suggests
that individuals are motivated to self actualize, but such a task can only be accomplished if basic
human needs are obtained beforehand (Funder, 2013). With that said, there are specific requirements
presented within the hierarchy which one needs to obtain in order to ultimately improve their well
being. These five needs include an individual s physiological, safety, love, esteem, and self
actualization needs (McLeod, 2007). Considering the movie Groundhog Day, a character by the name
of Phil Connors continues to relive the same day endlessly, regardless of what he does. As a result
Connors goes through an extreme personality change which can be best described through the
standpoint of Maslow s hierarchy of needs. Phil Connor s Personality Described Phil Connors is an

As Defined By Merriam-Webster, Insanity Is “A Severely
As defined by Merriam Webster, insanity is a severely disordered state of the mind usually occurring
as a specific disorder . The stories A Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe and A Long Day s Journey
Into Night by Eugene O Neill revolve around the development of their deeply flawed characters with
severe mental instabilities. The damage done to the characters around them is matched only by the
mental disturbance of each of the characters. The perversion of the character s minds is so severe, that
each has convinced themselves that throughout most of each story, their actions are not the root cause
of the turmoil around them. (ADD A BETTER TOPIC SENTENCE????) A Tell Tale Heart begins

He would become the victim of an irresistible impulse ... (Text 1). This corruption of the mind can
drive people to commit crimes as morally corrupt as murder without understanding how terrible their
actions are. To the narrator, to attack the blind eye that disturbs him so and murdering the old man are
two separate events. In A Long Day s Journey Into Night by contrast, the mother in the story, named
Mary, begins a normal woman concerned with the wellbeing of her son who was recently been
diagnosed with what was commonly called consumption, but is now referred to as tuberculosis.
Because she is so anxious about her son s worsening health, Mary withdraws, via morphine, into a
happier past (Text 2). As the play progresses, Mary s worsening mental state is reflected by her
worsening appearance, climaxing near the end of the work, when she ends the night, eyes glassy,
wedding gown half worn, high on morphine regressing back to her happiest day, her wedding day. In
her state she has completely disassociated herself from her surroundings, so much so that she forgets
to ask her son, returning from the doctor what the diagnosis was. Her addiction causes her state to
worsen throughout the play, damaging the relationships of those around her, culminating in a complete
disconnection from reality. Each of these characters suffer from mental instabilities resulting in
damage to the people

The deaths that happened during the ship s history, is linked with the many spirits that roam the area.
The spirits of Captain Treasure Jones, John Pedder, Jackie continue to haunt the passengers from time

The Poisonwood Bible Book Report
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. A book that I never expected to read because of my
stance on avoiding religious books, but oddly enough I could not put it down. The book is a
representation of culture arrogance, racism, greed, ignorance, and imperialism that occurred through
1959 and on. The book introduces a religious, missionary family from Georgia who are headed to the
village of Kilanga in Belgium Congo. What grabbed my attention in the beginning is that each
member in the family, which happens to be all girls, has their turn to tell their story through their eyes,
except oddly enough the overly religious evangelical Baptist father, who s only purpose is to spread
the name and views of God to the Congolese.
Each daughter is different from the other. You have the oldest, who s to ignorant to try to understand
the culture of the Congolese and just wanted to go back to the US where her beauty belonged. Two
twins who are complete opposites because of a disease that harmed the younger s mind rendering her
crippled and mute, but gave her the most beautiful and dark view of the world. The oldest twin who
believed every word her father says is right and plans to follow in his footsteps. Next the youngest
daughter who is too young to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s interesting watching each character develop for better or worse, especially the father who
continues to incite the same emotion from you throughout the whole story until the end as well as the
oldest daughter. But as much as you remember they are just characters in a book, you know that there
are people out there that share the views as these close minded characters. There are moments when I
wanted to scream, cry and just throw the book across the room because of certain events that occurred,
but I could not turn the book

In many emerging markets, a number of studies have also emerged which examine whether the
initiatives of corporate governance have led to an improvement in the quality of financial reporting
and whether these initiatives have been effective in tackling the problem of earnings management.
Shen and Chih (2007), for example, find in nine Asian countries that firms with good corporate
governance tend to conduct less earnings management. Also, In India, Sarkar et al. (2008) show that
diligent boards are associated with lowers earnings manipulation. Additionally, in Jordan, Al khabash
and Althuneibat (2009) provide evidence that the existence of internal governance structure has a
significant influence on the practice of illegitimate earnings management. In support, Kamel and
Elbanna (2010) find a consensus among their respondents regarding the importance of combating
earnings management in Egypt through greater reliance on internal corporate governance mechanisms.
In particular, this paper examines the roles board, audit committee, board size, and number of board
meeting to reduce earnings management practices in Bangladesh. In a September 1998 speech to
lawyers and CPAs, Arthur Levitt, chairman of the Security Exchange Commission committed the SEC
in no uncertain terms to a serious, high priority attack on earnings management (Loomis, 1999, p. 76).

Compare And Contrast The Spanish And Aztecs
The Aztec and Spanish were both some of the strongest nations in the place they inhabited. The
Spanish went to war to collect territory for their homeland in Spain. The Aztec went to war to please
their gods and collect prisoners to sacrifice. The Spanish war strategies were for taking over the land
they desired without war, but if it came to it they would fight. The weapons that both nations used
were very dangerous, but were well suited for what they nation needed them for. The Aztec weapons
were mostly for capturing prisoners. The Spanish weapons were used mostly for killing and were very
durable. The Aztec and Spanish both had different reasons for going to war and the types of tactics

Warfare was a part of Aztec life, the Aztecs went to war so that could capture people to sacrifice to
their beloved gods. They believed if they did not sacrifice people the gods would get angry and the
world would end. Other reasons to go to war were that they could expand their territory, and collect
resources. The Aztec threw scattered wooden spears to disperse the enemy troops, come in and knock
out the dispersed enemy warriors. The Spanish had a very different approach to war the Spanish tried
to peacefully negotiate and discover the most powerful. When the Spanish found the strongest colony
they would kidnap their leader and make him do their bidding, if the leader would not listen they
would threaten to kill him. If things did not work out peacefully the conquistadors would fight on
open ground where they have an advantage. The tactics and strategy so that the Spanish and Aztec

killing rather than capturing. All of these reasons are why the Aztec were

The Theory Of Dynamic Capability
Helfat s (1997) article is written to examine the theory of dynamic capability. Helfat cites Teece and
Pisano s (1994: 541) definition as the subset of the competences/capabilities which allow the firm to
create new products and processes and respond to changing market circumstances (Helfat, 1997 :
339). Helfat examines how complimentary assets in a firm can influence their dynamic capabilities.
Specifically, how a firm is able to use current assets, such as economies of scope, to respond to a
dynamic market. Helfat examines the oil industry, which is often filled with high levels of
complimentary assets such as R D and economies of scope, in order to gain a better understanding of
how the theory of dynamic capability actualizes itself. Helfat uses data from the energy industry
because its availability, the nature of the industry itself (highly diversified firms), and the unique
opportunity to examine historical data of the dynamic environment (specifically the years which the
OPEC oil embargo created oil shortages, and prices sky rocketed). Theoretical Argument Helfat s
theoretical argument is that companies engaged in a dynamic environment, who are diversified in
complimentary assets, will hold a strategic advantage over competitors because of the economies of
scope presented to them by their asset structure. I believe that Helfat s argument can be seen to
intertwine with other theoretical constructs such as process strategy, which examines how firms

Roosevelt s Stewardship Theory

In actuality their interpretations differed on the source, purpose and limitations of their Constitutional
powers effectually placing Lincoln s actions as inspiration rather than precedent. Specifically, Lincoln
s source of broad executive powers was derived from the Constitution in defense of the Constitution.
His executive authority encroached on existing federal powers previously not bestowed to the
Presidency. His encroachments were intended to be temporary war measures and were necessary to
save the constitutional government of the union. This was a temporary suspension supported by Locke
s social compact theory which influenced the writing of the Constitution. Lincoln s emancipation
proclamation both showed Constitutional restraint by applying the order only to enemy combatants as
well as by enumerating the reinstatement of elections in the south on re admittance into the Union.
This placed the ultimate authority within the Constitution. Lincoln s original insistence to follow the
fugitive slave Act as President shows that in a time of peace Lincoln would have followed the law
until the issue was fully settled by appropriate avenues within the existing constitution to change
national policy. In contrast Roosevelt saw the Constitution as a flawed document and believed a
higher purpose required him to act. His power originated

Enduring Love Chapter 1 Analysis
The principles from this chapter that I am going to focus on are forgiving and serving others. Showing
forgiveness and mercy towards others is vital in marriage and family life. When we have grace
towards everyone around us we will inevitably have more love in our lives and relationships. If we are
struggling forgiving a spouse it is important to serve them. When we serve others it will help bring joy
to the person serving and the one being served. If we learn to forgive and serve in our marriages there
will be more love and less contention.
In this chapter the principle I am going to focus on is that all relationship have issues, but if we have
softer hearts the couple can overcome their struggles. When problems arise in a marriage it is
important to work through them, with your spouse, and do not give up. A person can choose to divorce
and move on to another relationship, but this relationship will have its own set of different problems.
No relationship will ever be perfect. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When partners appreciate one another it helps the relationship grow and improve, when they
continuously correct one another it slowly destroys it. If a partner is doing something that angers the
other, they need to fix themselves and love their partner. Focusing on the positive of partners will
build couples closer together instead of driving them apart.
In chapter five a principle that stood out to me is that infidelity is a great iniquity of our generation. In
the world I feel like sex is becoming less valued and sacred. In marriage partners should be faithful to
their spouse physically, mentally, and emotionally. When each partner does this they are protecting
their relationship from emotional heartache that comes from betrayal. When partners in a marriage
water their relationship and give it the attention it needs more joy will be found and infidelity is less

A Thesis On Modernism

Modern Thesis Paper
During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, changes in the dynamics of society caused intellectuals
to question the traditions of everyday life. From religious views to the arts of literature, traditional
values and forms were rejected, thus defining a line between the two time periods, which can be
considered as the start of the Modern era. Also known as Modernism, the modern era used literature as
an outlet for expressing the thoughts and feelings of the time. Modern texts use city life,
industrialization and globalization, and ironic and satirical themes to showcase their bleak outlook on
life post both world wars. The nature of these events are aspects of society ... Show more content on

The mistrust of the world which is at the center of modernism can be attributed to the world wars and
the psychological effect that it had on the individual. The horrors and violence altered public
perceptions of life, a change that is evident within writers of the time period. The focus of writing
shifted from the outward world to inner thoughts and feelings and overall representation of an
individual s stream of consciousness which are themes associated with modern text. In Impact of
Modernism , focuses on the idea that world needed new outlets for expression and in finding them

tradition they could discover radically new ways of making art. (Impact) .The world no longer had the
beauty it once did so a a discovery of new arts were needed. The mind of an individual became that

Diabetic Neuropathy Essay
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is among the chronic microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus
due to hyperglycemia. Prevalence of diabetic neuropathy is high, affecting more than 60% of diabetics
(Boulton et al., 2005). The clinical manifestation of diabetic neuropathy include numbness, tingling
sensation in toes, feet, legs, arms, hands and fingers (Kumar et al.). It leads to significant morbidity,
impact on quality of life of patients (Zychowska et al.) and increases the risk of infections leading to
the foot ulcers and non traumatic amputations (Bansal et al.). In diabetic neuronal cells,
hyperglycemic flux activates four cellular pathways: the polyol, advanced glycation end product,
protein kinase C, and hexosamine pathways increasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It leads to the reduced coupling efficiency in mitochondria and increased superoxide radical
generation damaging both nuclear DNA and mitochondrial DNA leading to activation of poly ADP
ribose polymerase enzyme (PARP) (Fernyhough et al.Brownlee, 2001; Nishikawa et al., 2000b, to be
added). PARP activation leads to inactivation of AMPK which facilitates mitochondrial biogenesis.
Thus, PARP activation compromises the cellular mitochondrial genesis which leads to accumulation
of damaged mitochondria in the cell. Molecular studies have revealed the involvement of
transcriptional regulators such as Nrf2, NF κB, and COX 2 inflammatory cascade in the pathology of
diabetic neuropathy. The Nuclear factor 2 erythroid related factor (Nrf2) is a redox transcription factor
for the production of endogenous antioxidant defenses and detoxifying enzymes. Nuclear factor kappa
light chain enhancer of β cells(NF κB) is a transcription factor, involved in pro inflammatory cytokine
production (Negi et al.). Both Nrf2 and NF κB regulation are co ordinated in order to maintain redox
homeostasis in healthy cells. However, during pathological conditions this regulation is disturbed
offering an opportunity for therapeutic intervention. Diabetic neuropathy is a condition , in which
change in expression pattern of Nrf2 and NF κB has been reported(Koriyama et

America Never Was America Again By Langston Hughes
Has America ever been great, of the 239 years this influential country has been a country has it ever
been truly great and free? As Langston Hughes exclaimed, America never was America to me .
Learned Hand and Langston Hughes had differences on their thought on the topic of Liberty and
whether America is great. Hughes and Hands opinion of Liberty has changed the way the common
man reacts to racism and the way we perceive America s greatness.
America is arguably the most robust country and yet it also one of many countries where we are not
all free. In the poem Let America Be America Again Langston Hughes shows his opinion of America
and declared that America has never been great and never will be if there is varied equality among the
ethnics and their social classes. Learned Hand announced That spirit of an American which has never
been, and may never be; nay, which never will be except as the conscience and courage of Americas
create it , her he feels that America is only as good as the common people in it, therefore, Americas
future lies in our hands and the way we use it. Both Langston Hughes and Learned Hand presumed
that America has never been great yet, Hand is unsure on whether America has the potential to change
their ways but, Langston Hughes let out his emotions exclaiming America never was America to me,
and yet I swear this oath America will be! These two Americans have shown how they feel and believe
that we can only be a magnificent country if we believe

may not be able to think well enough to do normal activities, such as getting dressed or eating. They
may lose their ability to solve problems or control their emotions. Their personalities may change.
They may become agitated or see things that are not there. (Health, 2014).This essay is going to
discuss and explore what dementia is and the four main types of dementia which includes Alzheimer s
Disease, Vascular Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia and Lewy Body Dementia. Then it explores
the physiology changes in different types and the signs and symptoms of dementia. This effect can
change the life of people having dementia to suffer in physical issues, social isolation and mental
illness. Next, it discusses how environmental changes and music therapy strategies work in dementia.
Lastly, the supports that Alzheimer s Australia and Emmy Monash Aged Care can provide. (Bleiler

Ir A Country With A Rich History
Iran is a country with a rich history that stretches back to the formation of the Persian Empire in 550
BC. It is important to discuss the history of Iran when viewing its current state of politics because over
this vast period of time there was a distinct set of rule that had just ended less than forty years ago.
From 550 BC to 1979, Iran (formerly known as Persia, changed names in 1935) had been ruled by
emperors, kings and shahs (Persian for king of kings ), until the Iranian Revolution of 1979 when the
last shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was overthrown. An important event that occurred under the
leadership of shahs, occurred in 1501 under the leadership of the Safavid dynasty, when Iran adopted
Shia Islam as their official religion. This event was important in many ways as it shaped the current
political landscape of Iran and has been an increasingly debated topic in comparative politics. After
the overthrow of the shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the person appointed as new leader of Iran was
Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Khomeini had garnered widespread popularity when he spoke against
the leadership of Pahlavi and was exiled from the country to Iraq, and later Paris. While in Iraq,
Khomeini wrote the book, Islamic Government: The Governance of the Jurist. In his book, Khomeini
introduced the idea of Velayat a faqih which essentially meant that the people should be ruled by
clerical leader. He also believed that the state should be ruled under Sharia which translates

The shape and magnitude of the UV spectra depends on the...
The shape and magnitude of the UV spectra depends on the composition of amino acid in each
protein. Due to the aromatic amino acid residues in the protein, the observed UV absorbance was
mainly in the 240 nm to 340 nm region. In Figure 1 to 3, the maximal absorbance of each protein was
approximately at 280 nm. The difference in magnitudes of the peak observed was linked to the
differences in the amino acid contents in each of the proteins. The peak of lysozyme was greater than
those of BSA and gelatin, because lysozyme has a greater number of tryptophan residues. Lysozyme
has six tryptophan residues, whereas BSA and gelatin has two and zero, respectively (Department of

In order to examine the variation in sensitivity of lysozyme, gelatin, and BSA, the absorbance reading
was obtained using the Bradford and BCA assay
Gelatin is observed to have a lower absorbance reading than lysozyme in only the Bradford assay,
while in the BCA assay gelatin was observed to have about the same absorbance as lysozyme. In
Bradford assay, the color yield for proteins with higher content of tryptophan, tyrosine, or cysteine
residue, will be higher. The observed protein sensitivities did not correlates with the amino acid
content in the Bradford assay. As presented in Table I, the mole fractions of lysine and arginine in
BSA were 10 mole percent and 4 mole percent, respectively. The sensitivity should have been higher
in BSA than in the Bradford assy. However, the observed sensitivities did correlates with the amino
acid contents in the BCA assay. Bradford assay would be ideal if an accurate estimation of a newly
isolated protein using BSA as a standard. With the data obtain from the Bradford assay, it shows that it
was more sensitive and quicker, also it had less interference from substance that were possibly present
in the protein solution, expect for the interfering substance SDS.
The interference of RNA and ME in the Bradford assay was compensated by using the blank, because

left the door open and allowed all of the sunlight to enter into the room. Other examples are her lack
of joy for her pregnancy, the fact she has no real meaningful relationships with anyone and finally her
lack of respect and love for her own husband.

Difference Between Montessori And Steiner
When comparing and contrasting two teaching approaches, it is important to remember that although
there is a myriad of different types i.e. Froebel, Montessori, Steiner etc., they all possess similarities
and differences. Each individual approach has many fascinating points, however the Montessori and
Steiner approach will be discussed in this essay. Montessori s approach is based on the understanding
that children have an inborn capacity to acquire information and to teach themselves when placed in
an environment that allows freedom and independence to work at their own pace (Miller, 2010, p.71).
Whereas Steiner s approach is based on the understanding that children learn primarily through
imitation and whatever is happening around them from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Montessori s teaching approach aims to develop all aspects of the child mentally and socially (Pound,
2012). Montessori cautioned teachers to remember that children need to be allowed to do basic tasks
to learn for themselves (Mooney, 2000, p.28). The role of the teacher in a Montessori setting is mainly
observation of the child, encouragement, preparation of the environment, leadership, fostering the
child s independence (Mooney, 2000, p.29), and keeping a complex and delicate balance between each
role. (Miller, 2010, p.79). Both theorists acknowledged that children learn best by doing and through
repetition of tasks (Mooney, 2000, p.29). Large blocks of time for free work and play, should be
scheduled as this was part of the Montessori legacy, this can also be seen in Steiner settings. (Pound,
2012). The teacher should also give children responsibility for keeping the setting space clean and tidy
and allow the children to structure their own play. (Mooney, 2000, p.29). Steiner s role of the teacher
is comparable. Steiner wanted to create an education which gave children clarity of thought,
sensitivity of feeling and strength of will (Pound 2012, p28). Like Montessori the role of the teacher is
all about observation, the teacher needs to be both interested and observational of the child s basic
needs to fully develop the child both

Servant Leadership In Hurricane Katrina
During Hurricane Katrina, efforts of the local, state and federal government were made using servant
leadership to help the people of New Orleans, Louisiana; it made a failure of the said governments to
keep them protected. If servant leadership of the local, state, and the federal government was used to
help the people of New Orleans, Louisiana during hurricane Katrina than taking them to safety.
Failure of the local government The failure of the local government to respond to Hurricane Katrina
that the emergencies plan of the government were lacking. The city official responsibility for
evacuation of its citizens and the intent was to assist those who needed transportation for the incoming
storm but had no actual plan to implement that intent. When the hurricane Katrina made a landfall in
New Orleans on 29 August 2005, heavy rain battered the area and the storm surge measuring as high
as 30 feet and moving toward inland and breached several levees intended to protect New Orleans
from the water of the lake. The water poured through the breaks in the days following the storm,
covering approximately 80% of the city with water as deep as three meters. The flooding, wind, and
waves it caused the city major damage to building and infrastructure. There is a lot of people stranded
on the rooftops of their houses and people wading through the water. The communities suffered from
the disaster, particularly the city of New Orleans. Most of their first responders like

Edgar Allen Poe s Tales Of Terror And The Raven Essay
Edgar Allen Poe s Tales of Terror and The Raven
The film of chosen I decided upon was Edgar Allen Poe s Tales of Terror, and the reading I choose
was Edgar Allen Poe s famous The Raven. Both the film and the writing included a common theme of
death and tragedy. The film was separated into three different tales, while all three tales had a very
different story line they all included the common theme I stated above. In the film, I also concluded
that for each action there was a reaction, meaning each bad deed done there was a repercussion to the
action. In the Poem, The Raven it also includes death and the sorrow and the human s need to self
torture. Edgar Allen Poe s ability to capture his readers into his dark imagination of horror and
mystery is one that will forever be famous for.
In the first Tales of Terror Morella was a story about a father and daughter whose relationship was
compromised, as she was being blamed of the cause of death of her mother. The Daughter Lenora
returns to her father s house after twenty six years of being away. Her father Locke isn t welcoming to
her returning as he still holds resentment to her for the death of his wife from giving birth. Lenora
comes across the corpse of her mother and startled, Locke states he could not manage with the thought
of burying her six feet under. When your mother died I then died as well her father states. You can see
the hurt the Locke holds inside of him without having his beloved wife with him. When

Fan Fiction Character Appropriation
Fan fiction and character appropriation
Fan Fiction is a transformative practice of writing fiction created by fans based on existing source
work or consists of elements copied from a story world, character or setting, the original source of the
work being expanded can include any qualified material such as novels, films, comics or games. Legal
implications arise due to the contemplation whether it is an infringement of copyright as a derivative
work . Authors generally have a varied opinion on fan fiction, some downright loath the practice,
where as some consider it unimaginative yet unconcerned by it and some compliment it. The creator
of the original work rarely authorises or commissions fan fiction and it is very unlikely to receive
publishing. It has long existed as a fan practice, although since the internet s inception it has amplified
exponentially and has evolved into a much more elaborate exercise, with various classifications, style
and sub genres. The legal issues surrounding fan fiction are in dispute of whether they are derivative
works infringing Copyright Law, for these stories are usually transformative of an original
copyrighted literary works.
Fair use is a common defence against infringement claims, or in Australia fair dealings may similarly
constitute defence, though fair use isn t entirely secure for fan fiction, despite many maintaining its
legality due to its non profit nature. Lucasfilm Ltd have always accepted fan fiction that respects the

An Investigation Into Response For Disaster Using...
An Investigation into Response to Disaster Using Qualitative Methods
Abstract
This study investigated the accounts of individuals involved in the London underground bombings in
2005. Throughout this investigation, thematic analysis was conducted on six eyewitness accounts,
highlighting their feelings and actions, which came about as a result of the incident. From these
accounts I obtained 4 key themes, which were consistent components of the six accounts. Evidently, I
found that the two most common themes were helping behaviour and the panic myth. This was rather
unexpected, as initially, I expected to find irrational and helpless behaviour, due to the panic and stress
of being trapped in a bombed underground. To conclude, the investigation illuminated the concept of
helping others before helping ones self. Thus, contradicting the concept of survival of the fittest, as in
this case the fittest were those who took it upon themselves to assist other passengers in need.
Therefore, highlighting the power of empathy which was risen with experiencing the disaster.
Introduction
Terrorist attacks are a consistent global occurrence. The 2005 London underground bombings was an
attack which caused largest mass fatality occurrence in the UK since World War 2. As a result the
comfort and use of public transport in the UK was greatly impacted. Research into the fatalities and
physical repercussions of tragedies are amplified globally. For instance it is considered factual that the

The Principle Of Separation Of Powers
The method of separation of powers was a very important addition to the constitution for the founders
of the document. After years of struggling under Great Britain s regime then finally getting freed, they
wanted to make sure they avoided every way of a totalitarian government arising. Thus forth, the
founders developed the idea of separation of powers. However, this was the 18th century. Although
the creators of the constitution did a great job at developing a long lasting agreement between
government and citizens, there was no way for them to be 100% aware of the future consequences
with would have in the 21st century. Britain s totalitarian rule over the colonies was one of the main
reasons for the idea of separation of powers. The king of Great Britain was a very harsh ruler. Two of
the biggest problems was that, he imposed outrageous taxes on the colonist and they also had close to
no rights. He could do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted to. To avoid this after the colonies
declared themselves free, they split up the government in a way that one branch cannot become too
powerful and take over all of the country. The three branches that were created were the; legislative
branch, executive branch, and the judicial branch. The legislative branch consist of the senate and the
House of Representatives. They are in charge of passing federal laws, approving treaties and
presidential appointments, and establishing lower court systems. The executive branch places the

Competition And Predation Play An Important Role
Coexistence has been happening among many species since the beginning of time throughout nature.
The way species exist is of great complexity as many factors such as: competition and predation play
an important role (Chase et al. 2002; Holt 1984; Paine 1966). Ecosystems, communities and
populations all face competition between their species. Studies are constantly being done to show how
different species survive together or die trying and what is it that they are fighting to survive over.
Different habitats, predator, prey, and so many other factors play a role in the survival of species like
protists. Many laboratory studies have been done on two protists, Paramecium aurelia and
Paramecium caudatum, to see different aspects of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prey will go slam down on the ground in seconds and be devoured in minutes by the lion. The
lion is allelopathy at its best because there is competition over survival and territory with animals of
this nature. Territory can be a limited resource depending on the time of year and the environment as a
whole, trees and brush being chopped down pose a problem when it comes to sneaking up on prey.
Gause started experimenting on protists to observe their development and observe their survival
ability together (Gause). Paramecium can be found in many places: wet areas like lakes and rivers or
dry areas such as those of trees and soil. Gause set out to experiment with Paramecium aurelia and
Paramecium caudatum to determine if they fit the competitive exclusion theory that he came up with
(Gause 1935). The class was given both parameciums to experiment with for the validity of
coexistence. The competitive exclusion theory begs the question, can two species coexist together
over a resource or will one of them be driven to extinction? Gause may have been the leader to start
the protists experiment but he wasn t the only one to question competition. Gill had questioned Gause
s theory and decided to do his own research. Gill experimented on two species pure and mixed
cultures of Paramecium aurelia. After experimenting Gill discovered that Paramecium aurelia did not
match up to Gause s theory and did not compete over a limited resource instead

A Brief History Of Multicultural Education
A Brief History of Multicultural Education from 1960 to Present
The United States (US) is considered a relatively new country when considering it in the historical
context of the history of nation states. However, the idea of multicultural education (MCE) is certainly
not new. Payne and Welsh (2008) posit that MCE originates from the results of struggles of humans
throughout history, from [the] Hammurabi Code to the Magna Carta, the British Bill of Rights,
philosophers such as Locke and Montesquieu, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and various
reform movements in different countries, such as Russia and China (Celik, 2012). The challenges and
changes in MCE, by the nature of what culture is considered to be, are difficult to ... Show more

And therein lies one of the problems of MCE. There is no single, all encompassing, everyone agrees
definition. When reading articles and books on MCE and even the history and development of the
field of what is known today as multicultural education , each author defines the concepts to his/her
meaning for each publication. For instance, ...Levinson (2009) calls multicultural education a
conceptual mess (p. 428) since different thinkers have attached various values and meanings to the
concept, which are not clarified by or derived from multicultural education itself. Readers must
understand the author behind the publication and his/her position on MCE before reading the
publication to understand the framework in which the information is being presented. However, there
is some standardization and typically accepted tenants of multicultural education. These are generally
represented by an organization that is considered to be a leading resource in the field of MCE, called
the National Association of Multicultural Education, or NAME for short. NAME, understandably,
views the definition of multicultural education so vital that they spend an entire page of their website
devoted to defining the term. NAME recognizes the variations in definition and goals by individuals
and states that, continuing debate is healthy (http://www.nameorg.org/name_history.php).

Emperor Penguin Research Paper
Emperor penguins
In one of the most often inhospitable environments, with 98% of the land covered in ice, winds
ranging from 8 kilometres an hour to 64 kilometres an hour, fluctuating climates that potentially reach
incredibly cold temperatures down to 89 degrees Celsius, continuous daylight during summer, and
storms such as blizzards where winds vary up to 200 kilometres per hour, that arrive rapidly in which
potentially cause incredibly contrasting weather patterns within relatively short distances, lives the
Emperor Penguin. Consequently, the Emperor Penguin has many phenomenal and useful adaptations
that ensure the penguin is able to sustain life in such a challenging, unfavourable environment.
The Emperor Penguin can only be found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emperor penguins tend to hunt for quick, midwater squid as well as fish and therefore they need to be
capable of diving to relatively deeper and remain submerged for longer period of time, in relation to
other penguin species. Emperor penguins can dive to depths of approximately 550 565 metres towards
the sea floor which is known as the twilight zone where less light is able to penetrate the surface of the
water. Emperor penguins are also able to hold their breath for approximately 22 27 minutes. Both of
these aspects enable the emperor penguin to stay submerged in the water and locate a source of food
that other penguins cannot. Therefore, both swimming and diving adaptations are vital to the Emperor
penguin s ability to sustain life for the adult and newly born Emperor penguins, as without them it
would be much more difficult for them to survive their surroundings without a food

Sexual Selection In Charles Darwin s The Descent Of Man
Darwin s theory on sexual selection, conceptualized throughout the course of The Descent of Man,
examines how inherent factors shape the structures and mental capabilities of males and females
through nature and the influence of humanity s ancestors. Darwin purports that it is biology that
dictates human traits. According to Darwin, whose work was influenced by the Victorian period, the
hierarchy of the natural realm, in which mankind is placed at the summit, is further stratified between
the two sexes. As an underlying theme of his work, Darwin emphasizes his claim that, under the
rationale of sexual selection, [...] man has ultimately become superior to woman (Darwin 565). In
what respects, in Chapter 19, Darwin produces the following statement:

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the current inequality of men and women had become a
frequently debated and highly controversial issue. At the time, it was a widely thought notion that
women could not vote due to their innate, supposed, inferiority to men. This conceptual hierarchy was
supported by Darwin s observations that men and women were developmentally divergent, owing to
selection. Many, including Darwin, believed male traits to be factors owing to male superiority
(Darwin, 565). However feminists, including Gamble, interpreted his works quite differently. In
Chapter Five of her essay, The Evolution of Woman, Gamble agrees with some of Darwin s
assessment of gender based characteristics, specifically concluding that men and women are indeed
different in behavior. But Gamble s argument challenges that it is not the superior traits of the male
that inforce the hierarchy, but the enslavement and oppression of the female gender via male control

African American Nightmare Exposed in Olaudah Equiano, Narrative of Frederick Douglass, Song of Solomon, and Push The American Dream was founded on the concept that all men are created equal (Jefferson 729) and that everyone has the capability and resources to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. The African slave was never intended to be a part of this American Dream, therefore, not capable of obtaining it. I mean, being the crash site for the second wave of aliens on earth can earn quite the reputation, and what are the odds I would be working there that very day? Well, to understand my position entirely, we need to go back to the beginning. In 1939, the U.S. declared itself a neutral country in the European conflict that would come to be known as World War II. In 1941, Franklin Roosevelt became the first and only president elected for three terms. Later that year, Japan attacked the U.S. at Pearl Harbor. These events spiraled into the earth changing event that was the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Many scientists believe this to be the event that caused the Invasion, as it sent some sort of radioactive wave throughout the galaxy. Although people tend to may disagree with each other, there was no doubt that it was a devastating blow to the entire world. The Roswell crash in 1947 was the first contact we had with any species not from Earth. Although the creature didn t survive long enough to greet us, it seems it was alive long enough to send a distress signal, calling the rest of its friends. Man s Inhumanity to man Introduction DULCE ET DECORUM EST by Wilfred Owen, and This Blinding Absence of Light by Tahar Ben Jelloun, are both powerful texts that give the reader sympathy and strong emotional experiences. When comparing the two texts, there are multiple aspects that they share, for example they both convey a strong message on survival and what it s like to be faced with death, however the setting, symbolism and themes like hope, and the power of thought are very different. The novel This Blinding Absence of Light is set in the Tazmamart prison in Morocco, where Salim, a prisoner of war, was held captive with 18 other men for 20 years. When confined in a small, pitch black chamber, with only starchy food, sludgy water and what hope they have left, Salim and the men are pushed to their limits of survival under such harsh conditions. Throughout the novel Salim goes on both a mental and physical journey to come at peace with himself, which shapes his perspective of what life means. The text DULCE ET DECORUM EST is set in World War 1 when a group of British soldiers are attacked with chlorine gas. In the rush upon the shells of gas exploding, one soldier does not get his mask on in time. Christians ought to read the Old Testament to keep God s commands, to understand that He does not change, and to learn how the Old Testament applies to their faith. • 15. Eveline By Joyce Essay In Joyce s, Eveline , most of the story is situated in the mind of the main character, Eveline. Eveline is characterized as passive, easily influenced, and indecisive. Joyce highlights Eveline s indecisiveness as she struggles with her immediate predicament; should she leave her abusive father and disobey her duty as a daughter, or pursue a new life with her potential husband Frank, to be free? As she contemplates, readers are taken inside Eveline s mind to discover factors from her past and present that contribute toward her final decision. While Joyce utilizes rich literary devices including symbolism and dramatic irony, Eveline s final choice is based on what is repressed in her unconscious mind her mother s last words. Eveline s mother s last word Derevuan Seraun is the deciding factor in which why Eveline chooses stays home. Derevuan Seraun is an old Irish Gaelic, translating to at the end of pleasure, there is pain (Tigges 120). Significant because these are Eveline s mother s last words, it contributes as to why Eveline viewed her mother s life as a life of commonplace sacrifices closing in final craziness (Joyce 33). Many commenters argue that Joyce s choice of adding Derevaun Seraun into the short story did not have purpose and was a smudging of Irish culture given the improbability that a Dublin woman of this time and class would know Gaelic (Suglia). However, Joyce purposely added the Irish Gaelic as a form of an allusion. Throughout Eveline, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such characteristics are not only used by others in attempts to understand their peers, but also determine one s own satisfaction and view of themselves. People are always attempting to change who they are for the better, in efforts to live a more satisfying and self fulfilling life through achieving higher personal needs. With that said, when studying the psychological basis behind one s development and change in personality, one specific theory and stance seems to explain this phenomenon of bettering one s self; that of Maslow s hierarchy of needs. This stance, embedded in the humanistic perspective, suggests that individuals are motivated to self actualize, but such a task can only be accomplished if basic human needs are obtained beforehand (Funder, 2013). With that said, there are specific requirements presented within the hierarchy which one needs to obtain in order to ultimately improve their well being. These five needs include an individual s physiological, safety, love, esteem, and self actualization needs (McLeod, 2007). Considering the movie Groundhog Day, a character by the name of Phil Connors continues to relive the same day endlessly, regardless of what he does. Helfat cites Teece and Pisano s (1994: 541) definition as the subset of the competences/capabilities which allow the firm to create new products and processes and respond to changing market circumstances (Helfat, 1997 : 339). Helfat examines how complimentary assets in a firm can influence their dynamic capabilities. Specifically, how a firm is able to use current assets, such as economies of scope, to respond to a dynamic market. Helfat examines the oil industry, which is often filled with high levels of complimentary assets such as R D and economies of scope, in order to gain a better understanding of how the theory of dynamic capability actualizes itself. Helfat uses data from the energy industry because its availability, the nature of the industry itself (highly diversified firms), and the unique opportunity to examine historical data of the dynamic environment (specifically the years which the OPEC oil embargo created oil shortages, and prices sky rocketed). Theoretical Argument Helfat s theoretical argument is that companies engaged in a dynamic environment, who are diversified in complimentary assets, will hold a strategic advantage over competitors because of the economies of scope presented to them by their asset structure. His encroachments were intended to be temporary war measures and were necessary to save the constitutional government of the union. This was a temporary suspension supported by Locke s social compact theory which influenced the writing of the Constitution. Lincoln s emancipation proclamation both showed Constitutional restraint by applying the order only to enemy combatants as well as by enumerating the reinstatement of elections in the south on re admittance into the Union. • 27. Enduring Love Chapter 1 Analysis The principles from this chapter that I am going to focus on are forgiving and serving others. Showing forgiveness and mercy towards others is vital in marriage and family life. When we have grace towards everyone around us we will inevitably have more love in our lives and relationships. If we are struggling forgiving a spouse it is important to serve them. When we serve others it will help bring joy to the person serving and the one being served. If we learn to forgive and serve in our marriages there will be more love and less contention. In this chapter the principle I am going to focus on is that all relationship have issues, but if we have softer hearts the couple can overcome their struggles. When problems arise in a marriage it is important to work through them, with your spouse, and do not give up. A person can choose to divorce and move on to another relationship, but this relationship will have its own set of different problems. No relationship will ever be perfect. When ... In marriage partners should be faithful to their spouse physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is important to discuss the history of Iran when viewing its current state of politics because over this vast period of time there was a distinct set of rule that had just ended less than forty years ago. From 550 BC to 1979, Iran (formerly known as Persia, changed names in 1935) had been ruled by emperors, kings and shahs (Persian for king of kings ), until the Iranian Revolution of 1979 when the last shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, was overthrown. An important event that occurred under the leadership of shahs, occurred in 1501 under the leadership of the Safavid dynasty, when Iran adopted Shia Islam as their official religion. This event was important in many ways as it shaped the current political landscape of Iran and has been an increasingly debated topic in comparative politics. After the overthrow of the shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the person appointed as new leader of Iran was Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. Khomeini had garnered widespread popularity when he spoke against the leadership of Pahlavi and was exiled from the country to Iraq, and later Paris. While in Iraq, Khomeini wrote the book, Islamic Government: The Governance of the Jurist. In Figure 1 to 3, the maximal absorbance of each protein was approximately at 280 nm. The difference in magnitudes of the peak observed was linked to the differences in the amino acid contents in each of the proteins. The peak of lysozyme was greater than those of BSA and gelatin, because lysozyme has a greater number of tryptophan residues. Montessori s approach is based on the understanding that children have an inborn capacity to acquire information and to teach themselves when placed in an environment that allows freedom and independence to work at their own pace (Miller, 2010, p.71). The role of the teacher in a Montessori setting is mainly observation of the child, encouragement, preparation of the environment, leadership, fostering the child s independence (Mooney, 2000, p.29), and keeping a complex and delicate balance between each role. (Miller, 2010, p.79). Both theorists acknowledged that children learn best by doing and through repetition of tasks (Mooney, 2000, p.29). Large blocks of time for free work and play, should be scheduled as this was part of the Montessori legacy, this can also be seen in Steiner settings. (Pound, 2012). The teacher should also give children responsibility for keeping the setting space clean and tidy and allow the children to structure their own play. (Mooney, 2000, p.29). Steiner s role of the teacher is comparable. Steiner wanted to create an education which gave children clarity of thought, sensitivity of feeling and strength of will (Pound 2012, p28). Edgar Allen Poe s ability to capture his readers into his dark imagination of horror and mystery is one that will forever be famous for. In the first Tales of Terror Morella was a story about a father and daughter whose relationship was compromised, as she was being blamed of the cause of death of her mother. The Daughter Lenora returns to her father s house after twenty six years of being away. Her father Locke isn t welcoming to her returning as he still holds resentment to her for the death of his wife from giving birth. Lenora comes across the corpse of her mother and startled, Locke states he could not manage with the thought of burying her six feet under. • 42. Fan Fiction Character Appropriation Fan fiction and character appropriation Fan Fiction is a transformative practice of writing fiction created by fans based on existing source work or consists of elements copied from a story world, character or setting, the original source of the work being expanded can include any qualified material such as novels, films, comics or games. Legal implications arise due to the contemplation whether it is an infringement of copyright as a derivative work . Authors generally have a varied opinion on fan fiction, some downright loath the practice, where as some consider it unimaginative yet unconcerned by it and some compliment it. The creator of the original work rarely authorises or commissions fan fiction and it is very unlikely to receive publishing. It has long existed as a fan practice, although since the internet s inception it has amplified exponentially and has evolved into a much more elaborate exercise, with various classifications, style and sub genres. The legal issues surrounding fan fiction are in dispute of whether they are derivative works infringing Copyright Law, for these stories are usually transformative of an original copyrighted literary works. Fair use is a common defence against infringement claims, or in Australia fair dealings may similarly constitute defence, though fair use isn t entirely secure for fan fiction, despite many maintaining its legality due to its non profit nature. • 43. An Investigation Into Response For Disaster Using... An Investigation into Response to Disaster Using Qualitative Methods Abstract This study investigated the accounts of individuals involved in the London underground bombings in 2005. Throughout this investigation, thematic analysis was conducted on six eyewitness accounts, highlighting their feelings and actions, which came about as a result of the incident. From these accounts I obtained 4 key themes, which were consistent components of the six accounts. Evidently, I found that the two most common themes were helping behaviour and the panic myth. This was rather unexpected, as initially, I expected to find irrational and helpless behaviour, due to the panic and stress of being trapped in a bombed underground. To conclude, the investigation illuminated the concept of helping others before helping ones self. Thus, contradicting the concept of survival of the fittest, as in this case the fittest were those who took it upon themselves to assist other passengers in need. Therefore, highlighting the power of empathy which was risen with experiencing the disaster. Introduction Terrorist attacks are a consistent global occurrence. The 2005 London underground bombings was an attack which caused largest mass fatality occurrence in the UK since World War 2. As a result the comfort and use of public transport in the UK was greatly impacted. Research into the fatalities and physical repercussions of tragedies are amplified globally. For instance it is considered factual that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Principle Of Separation Of Powers The method of separation of powers was a very important addition to the constitution for the founders of the document. After years of struggling under Great Britain s regime then finally getting freed, they wanted to make sure they avoided every way of a totalitarian government arising. Thus forth, the founders developed the idea of separation of powers. However, this was the 18th century. Although the creators of the constitution did a great job at developing a long lasting agreement between government and citizens, there was no way for them to be 100% aware of the future consequences with would have in the 21st century. Britain s totalitarian rule over the colonies was one of the main reasons for the idea of separation of powers. The king of Great Britain was a very harsh ruler. Two of the biggest problems was that, he imposed outrageous taxes on the colonist and they also had close to no rights. He could do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted to. To avoid this after the colonies declared themselves free, they split up the government in a way that one branch cannot become too powerful and take over all of the country. The three branches that were created were the; legislative branch, executive branch, and the judicial branch. The legislative branch consist of the senate and the House of Representatives. They are in charge of passing federal laws, approving treaties and presidential appointments, and establishing lower court systems. The executive branch places the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Competition And Predation Play An Important Role Coexistence has been happening among many species since the beginning of time throughout nature. The way species exist is of great complexity as many factors such as: competition and predation play an important role (Chase et al. 2002; Holt 1984; Paine 1966). Ecosystems, communities and populations all face competition between their species. Studies are constantly being done to show how different species survive together or die trying and what is it that they are fighting to survive over. Different habitats, predator, prey, and so many other factors play a role in the survival of species like protists. Many laboratory studies have been done on two protists, Paramecium aurelia and Paramecium caudatum, to see different aspects of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The prey will go slam down on the ground in seconds and be devoured in minutes by the lion. The lion is allelopathy at its best because there is competition over survival and territory with animals of this nature. Territory can be a limited resource depending on the time of year and the environment as a whole, trees and brush being chopped down pose a problem when it comes to sneaking up on prey. Gause started experimenting on protists to observe their development and observe their survival ability together (Gause). Paramecium can be found in many places: wet areas like lakes and rivers or dry areas such as those of trees and soil. Gause set out to experiment with Paramecium aurelia and Paramecium caudatum to determine if they fit the competitive exclusion theory that he came up with (Gause 1935). The class was given both parameciums to experiment with for the validity of coexistence. The competitive exclusion theory begs the question, can two species coexist together over a resource or will one of them be driven to extinction? Gause may have been the leader to start the protists experiment but he wasn t the only one to question competition. Gill had questioned Gause s theory and decided to do his own research. Gill experimented on two species pure and mixed cultures of Paramecium aurelia. After experimenting Gill discovered that Paramecium aurelia did not match up to Gause s theory and did not compete over a limited resource instead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. A Brief History Of Multicultural Education A Brief History of Multicultural Education from 1960 to Present The United States (US) is considered a relatively new country when considering it in the historical context of the history of nation states. However, the idea of multicultural education (MCE) is certainly not new. Payne and Welsh (2008) posit that MCE originates from the results of struggles of humans throughout history, from [the] Hammurabi Code to the Magna Carta, the British Bill of Rights, philosophers such as Locke and Montesquieu, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and various reform movements in different countries, such as Russia and China (Celik, 2012). The challenges and changes in MCE, by the nature of what culture is considered to be, are difficult to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And therein lies one of the problems of MCE. There is no single, all encompassing, everyone agrees definition. When reading articles and books on MCE and even the history and development of the field of what is known today as multicultural education , each author defines the concepts to his/her meaning for each publication. For instance, ...Levinson (2009) calls multicultural education a conceptual mess (p. 428) since different thinkers have attached various values and meanings to the concept, which are not clarified by or derived from multicultural education itself. Readers must understand the author behind the publication and his/her position on MCE before reading the publication to understand the framework in which the information is being presented. However, there is some standardization and typically accepted tenants of multicultural education. These are generally represented by an organization that is considered to be a leading resource in the field of MCE, called the National Association of Multicultural Education, or NAME for short. NAME, understandably, views the definition of multicultural education so vital that they spend an entire page of their website devoted to defining the term. NAME recognizes the variations in definition and goals by individuals and states that, continuing debate is healthy (http://www.nameorg.org/name_history.php). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consequently, the Emperor Penguin has many phenomenal and useful adaptations that ensure the penguin is able to sustain life in such a challenging, unfavourable environment. Emperor penguins tend to hunt for quick, midwater squid as well as fish and therefore they need to be capable of diving to relatively deeper and remain submerged for longer period of time, in relation to other penguin species. Emperor penguins can dive to depths of approximately 550 565 metres towards the sea floor which is known as the twilight zone where less light is able to penetrate the surface of the water. Emperor penguins are also able to hold their breath for approximately 22 27 minutes. Both of these aspects enable the emperor penguin to stay submerged in the water and locate a source of food that other penguins cannot. Therefore, both swimming and diving adaptations are vital to the Emperor penguin s ability to sustain life for the adult and newly born Emperor penguins, as without them it would be much more difficult for them to survive their surroundings without a food ... • 49. Sexual Selection In Charles Darwin s The Descent Of Man Darwin s theory on sexual selection, conceptualized throughout the course of The Descent of Man, examines how inherent factors shape the structures and mental capabilities of males and females through nature and the influence of humanity s ancestors. Darwin purports that it is biology that dictates human traits. According to Darwin, whose work was influenced by the Victorian period, the hierarchy of the natural realm, in which mankind is placed at the summit, is further stratified between the two sexes. As an underlying theme of his work, Darwin emphasizes his claim that, under the rationale of sexual selection, [...] man has ultimately become superior to woman (Darwin 565). In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the current inequality of men and women had become a frequently debated and highly controversial issue. At the time, it was a widely thought notion that women could not vote due to their innate, supposed, inferiority to men. This conceptual hierarchy was supported by Darwin s observations that men and women were developmentally divergent, owing to selection. Many, including Darwin, believed male traits to be factors owing to male superiority (Darwin, 565). However feminists, including Gamble, interpreted his works quite differently. In Chapter Five of her essay, The Evolution of Woman, Gamble agrees with some of Darwin s assessment of gender based characteristics, specifically concluding that men and women are indeed different in behavior. But Gamble s argument challenges that it is not the superior traits of the male that inforce the hierarchy, but the enslavement and oppression of the female gender via male control (Gamble ...
