The Iron Giant (1999), released less than a year after I was born, evokes primarily feelings of
nostalgia. The root of the nostalgia I feel when thinking about this movie comes from having
watched it many times since its release. Over these many instances of seeing the film, I ve come
away from it greatly enjoying the experience because of the connections it has to earlier in my life,
and from the quality of the filmthat is hard to surpass with any other animated film produced for
children. In my past viewings of the film, I ve identified with both the main character, Hogarth,
and with Dean earlier on in the film. Early on, I identified more with Hogarth because of his age,
curiosity, and overall demeanor. Most times when I ve seen the movie, I was relatively close to
Hogarth s age, which I assumed to be a couple years from my age at any given viewing. His
curiosity in trying to understand the Giant mirrored some of my own curiosity in the world and
in what was happening in the movie. I ve slowly transitioned over time to relating more with
Dean towards the beginning of the film. For most of his introduction, Dean helps Hogarth but is
wary and mistrustful of the Giant. Dean is willing to help when it comes to a kid he recognizes
and is acquainted with on some level, but he freaks out and changes his tune after finding out
about the threatening giant in his scrap yard. I follow some of his logic at this point in the movie,
if someone I m acquainted with needs help, I ll most likely help with some explanation, but things
that are extremely unfamiliar, especially of the magnitude experienced in the movie, I can t help
but feel somewhat threatened and unable to relate to something so different. The lessons I learned

In the past decade, language memoirs, linguistic autobiographies, and learners journals and
diaries have become a popular means of data collection in applied linguistics. It is not always clear
however how one should go about analyzing this data. The aim of this paper is to offer a critical
review of analytical frameworks applied to how one languageautobiography can say a lot about one
person s past experiences and shapes them into who they are today. I will discuss the dialect, both
geographical environment and social factors, and associates within through developing, using and
changing an idiolect which constitutes part of a persona and self identity of these frameworks in
relation to the type of information they seek: subject reality, life reality, and text reality. I argue that
some analytical results, in particular content from academic journals, are insensitive to the
interpretive nature of autobiographic data. Subsequently, I will talk about my idiolect that is a

Introduction In the United States there are numerous Americans that suffer from Type 2 Diabetes,
too much sugar intake, and being overweight. Additionally, there are numerous debates as to which
sweetener, honey, fructose, or high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is consequentially better for
people. Many argue that each have different metabolic effects on individuals, while other experts
claim all three have basically the same effects. While this topic is quite controversially and a fairly
new concept, most experts and researchers tend to agree that reducing any type of sugarintake can
decrease excessive body weight and the chance of suffering from diabetes, obesity, and an array of
other health complications. The Institute of Medicine suggests no more than 25% of daily energy

When I was little, one of my fondest memories was during Christmas while living out in the
desert. My parents, unable to purchase presents due to a lack of money this time of year, or most
times of the year, settled for something different. Dad took us kids out into the desert one by one
and told each of us to pick out a star in the night sky; we could pick out any star we wanted. I
remember staring up at the night sky and being totally astonished seeing all of the twinkling stars
and lights and then my father crouched down next to me: Rich city folks, he d say, lived in fancy
apartments, but their air was so polluted they couldn t even see the stars. We d have to be out of

The Simpsons Reflection
Whether you love them, or hate them, The Simpsons a key piece to young adulthood in many
homes around the world. From depicting things such as struggling with disorders, problems with
the boss, or average family life, most North American families are able to relate to the The
Simpsons and that is why we keep crawling back each Sunday night. In the episode Mypods and
Boomsticks, Bart Simpsonmeets a new friend from Jordan named Bashir. After learning they
share many common interest, especially coming to food, Bart and Bashir become such good
friends, Bart learns that Bashir is a muslim. After learning this, Marge is proud of Bart for
meeting new people and stepping outside a comfort zone to meet and share new experiences.
Homer s reaction is quite the opposite. Once word gets out that Homer s son has befriended a
muslim, Homer s friends begin to spit stereotypes in Homer s face about muslims and the culture
behind Islam. After long, persuasive conversations, half witted Homer decides to invite Bashir
and his family to a dinner in an attempt to Assimilate them to American culture, this includes
offering them Pork Back Ribs and a large american flag cake that Homer later states is
Poisonous. This shows Homer s apparent inability to make decisions for himself and for the sake
of his family. After this assimilation attempt, Bashir s family realizes it is best if they leave. Upon
leaving, Homer recognizes the mistakes and decides to go to Bashir s home to apologize for his
