Zora Neale Hurston And The Harlem Renaissance
Zora Neale Hurston and The Harlem Renaissance
One of the greatest writers of our time, says Toni Morrison referring to Harlem Renaissance writer
Zora Neale Hurston (Anna Lillios, 2014).. Zora Neale Hurston, one of the most famous writers of this
era left a legacy through her pieces of writing during the Harlem Renaissance by celebrating black
culture in her pieces. Her writing was known to be very original and artistic. Zora Neale Hurston was
bold with her ideas for writing. Her writing wasn t limited by conventional expectations. Hurston was
confident and courageous in her writing leading others to be inspired by her work. Hurston changed
history though writing. Her writing still affects us today because of how powerful her words were.

First, The Harlem Renaissance was a cultural movement throughout the 1920 s and 1930 s. The
purpose of the Harlem Renaissance was that it created a new black cultural identity (Beth Rowen and
Borgna Bower 2007).Next, this era was a time for people to find their identity in music, writing, plays,
and much more. This was also a way for African Americans to find their identity as individuals. This is
where the African American authors came to get their names known. The purpose of the Harlem
Renaissance was to help the African American culture find their identity as an individual instead of
being labeled by other people s opinions ( Rowen and Borgna , 2007 ). Because of all of the
opportunities that Harlem presented, Zora Neale Hurston was able to leave a legacy during this era .
Between 1920 and 1930: 750, 000 African Americans migrated from the South to the North because of

Palace Of Time Analysis
In the Mediterranean Sea between the islands of Crete and Cyprus lies a hidden palace. The palace is
known as the Palace of Time and is hidden in the depths of the sea. Once every one hundred years, the
gods resurrect three significant historical figures to meet in the palace and discuss their actions and
accomplishments. The gods call forth this meeting so that the stories and justifications of each of the
significant figures can be documented and can help influence future civilizations to make excellent
choices and have many great accomplishments. During everything involving the meeting, the gods
remain anonymous and a spirit named Nuntius calls forth each of the significant figures from their

My father, Yesugei Baatar was the chieftain of our clan, the Borjigin Mongols and he was a
magnificent leader. When I was nine years old, I traveled with my father to meet my future wife and
become familiar with her family. My father headed back to our tribe and I stayed behind with my
future wife and her family. During the time that my father was traveling back, a rival clan fatally
poisoned him. I received the news quickly, but by the time I reached my village, he had already died.
My clan broke apart and my family fled to the hills. After several years of struggling, surviving, and

his death. Soon after my return, I became chieftain of my clan and I filled the same role as my father

The Flash Synopsis
Summary: This episode of the Flash we see the West family bonding in the aftermath of Francine West
s death but all of their progress may regress due to Wally s incessant need to drag race. Barry attempts
to connect with Dr. Wells who is struggling with his well guarded secret. A former victim uses his tar
ability to get revenge on those who have wronged him.
Review: I absolutely loved this episode of The Flash. The first half of the season was a little difficult
for me to get through because the show focused on characters with whom I did not connect. This
episode focused less on Caitlyn, Patty, and Jay and more on Barry, the West family, and Dr. Wells. In
doing so, David Kob (writer) was able to create an interesting story that details the ... Show more

This may be the reason Barry reaches out to Dr. Wells. Now that Joe is trying to insert himself into his
biological son s life, I believe that Barry is looking for another father figure even though Joe has not
indicated that he did not have time for Barry or that Barry could not hold the same place in his heart as
he always has.
What I missed from the first season was Grant Gustin and Tom Cavanagh on screen not only as Barry
Allen and Harry Wells but as mentee and mentor. We received a glimpse of this while both were
working together to solve the issue with the open portals. Barry even mentions the similarity between
his dynamic with the old Wells and E2 Wells. You can see Dr. Wells struggling with his relationship
with Barry and actively trying to reject the notion of becoming his mentor. This is mostly because of
the current situation with his daughter and the inevitability that he will choose her over everyone at

John Bowlby s Attachment Theory
Applications of Theories on Precious Precious is a movie based on the novel Push by Sapphire
(Daniels and Fletcher, 2008). It is on the life of an illiterate 16 year old African American girl,
Claireece Precious Jones. (Natividad, 2010). I have applied John Bowlby s Attachment Theory and
Erik Erikson s Theory of Psychosocial Development on the film. These theories helped identify an
understanding of the characters, family group, and community in the film. I have primarily assessed
Precious as the chosen character. This paper will analyze the many factors in assessing her human
behavior. The main character of the movie is Claireece Precious Jones who often went by her middle

The Transnational Political Practices of Chilean Migrants...
When studying the transnational political practices of Chilean migrants in the Netherlands, a
transnational approach forms part of the theoretical framework. The work on transnational migration
by Glick Schiller, Basch and Blanc Szanton (1992) offers this analytical framework. Glick Schiller et
al. have been among the first scholars to have introduced a transnational approach in understanding
the effects of migration. They define transnationalism as The processes by which immigrants build
social fields that link together their country of origin and their country of settlement (p.1). These
migrants who are involved in transnationalism are labeled transmigrants . Transmigrants develop and
maintain multiple relations familial, economic, social, organizational, religious, and political that span
borders (1992, p.1).
These transnational linkages that transcend national borders can be placed in the light of a bigger
phenomenon called globalization. Globalization makes the world figuratively smaller and more
compressed in terms of time and space. According to Inda and Rosaldo (2008), globalization creates
interconnection and relations between places and people that go beyond the territorial borders of a
nation state. This transnational and global element makes migrants people Who inhabit imagined
communities of belonging that cut across and encompass multiple national terrains (p. 23).

Women s Brains By Stephen Jay Gould Summary
Stephen Jay Gould analyses Paul Broca s data of inferior women to superior men through the study of
Craniometry in his piece, Women s Brains. While Broca claims women are unintelligent when
compared to men through thorough measurement of the brain; Gould realizes the accusations are false
due to their combination of science to social correlation and beliefs. Gould argues that women are not
inferior; they are only baring the brunt of unfair scientific research conducted to prove society beliefs.
Even the most reliable scientific data and research is not valid within the study of social norms and
accepted society stereotypes.

Scientific research and social correlations are not viewable through the same ideas, or else stereotypes

Benefits Of Long Island Wines Essay
Long Island wines have begun to catch the attention of wine experts around the world. After nearly
forty years, the region continues to grow and improve. Long Island wines are proving themselves
worthy of respect. The best have a style all their own attributed to terrior, with moderate alcohol,
intense aromatics and crisp acidity. Long Island wine region is the largest producer of European wine
grapes in the Eastern United States and a quality leader in the New World. (LISustainableWine.org
2015; Ruckdeschel 2013). Suffolk County, on New York s Long Island, benefits from farming
practices with a diversity that is unique within the state as well as the nation. The region s farmers
have been inspired by the foodie ethos , and strive to meet the call for locally grown products in an
environmentally sustainable fashion. This is especially evident in the region s viticulture and wine
making industries as they attempt to protect a fragile ecosystem (Nigro 2015). The American
Viticulture Area that encompasses the region is divided into three Appelations; The North Fork of
Long Island, The Hamptons, and Long Island. There are sixty vineyards that range in size from two
and a half acres to over five hundred. Wine makers in region total fifty six, with forty seven on the
North Fork, four in the Hamptons, and five in Western Suffolk County. Current production totals some
five hundred thousand cases equaling one million two hundred thousand gallons (Ruckdeschel 2013).

4g Mobile Advantages And Disadvantages
4G: The Fourth Generation: The fourth generation of mobile telecommunication technology is 4G the
short form of Fourth generation, succeeding 3G. It allows users to connect anytime, anywhere,
anyhow.
 HISTORY:
The first generation of mobile communications started with the Advanced Mobile Phone Systems
(AMPS), which was an analogue system regarded as 1G. Then came GSM and CDMA one (pretty
much regarded as 2G) and then to UMTS and EV DO, which are 3G technologies. The latest
technologies for 4G are LTE (from the 3GPP group) and 802.16m (from the IEEE). In the case of
802.16m, the candidate for 4G is also known as Wireless MAN Advanced, or WiMAX2. LTE
progresses through versions known as releases. The latest release that qualifies as being 4G is ... Show

 ADVANTAGES OF 4G MOBILE NETWORKS:
The most obvious advantage of the 4G mobile network is its amazing speed. Increased bandwidth
leads to much faster data transfer speed, which is especially advantageous for mobile devices. Users of
the 4G network get the advantage of superior, uninterrupted connectivity, especially for advanced
tasks such as video chats and conferences. The younger generation of mobile device users can stream
music, videos and movies at a much faster rate and can also easily share information online.
4G networks offer much more coverage than other systems such as Wi Fi, which forces users to
depend upon hotspots in each area you visit. Since 4G offers a coverage of 30 miles and more, users
would be assured of complete connectivity at all times.
One of the biggest problems with Wi Fi networks is that of online security which is especially true for
mobile devices. 4G networks offer complete privacy, security and safety. It is very beneficial for
corporate establishments and business persons, who hold sensitive information on their respective

Thus, we went over two main issues caused by inappropriate personality test: time and money. They
are also two key elements for an organization. Let s go deeper to understand why these two points can
decrease the efficiency of an organization. Time is very important for an organization (most of the
time concerning companies), the quicker, the better. Indeed, the influence of time on companies is due
in order to satisfy customers. This means to have the best employee as possible, and the first step is
obviously the recruitment with a personality test. Of course it takes time to do a test when we recruit
someone. However, we should see this on the long term and not short term because the benefit is
really huge. Moreover, employers or managers usually forget that employees are the basement of an
organization, and the stronger, the better, which means having the correct employee with the correct
skills and abilities for the job specifications. Job specification is the Statement of the needed
knowledge, skills, and abilities of the person who is to perform the position. The different duties and
responsibilities performed by only one employee . Money is fundamental for an organization, and this

Essay about Alexis deTocqueville
Alexis deTocqueville
Alexis de Tocqueville was born in Paris on July 29th, 1805. Growing up in Metz, France, the youngest
child of Hervé Tocqueville and Mlle. De Rosanbo, he showed great intellectual promise from his
earliest days. By the age of 16, his academic career was a brilliant one, his schoolwork earning him a
special prize and two first prizes. He was an avid reader, reading books hardly accessible to a boy of
his young age. It was during these years that he developed his critical thinking and reasoning skills
that would serve him so well later in life. In 1831, Alexis and his friend and colleague Gustave de
Beaumont embarked for New York. Sent to study the American penal system, Tocqueville was much

Mayer writes in Tocqueville s biography that he read at this time with a tireless appetite the works of
Plato, Plutarch, Machiavelli, Rousseau, and Montesquieu, and it would seem that in these same years
he made a close study of Aristotle, Polybius, and more particularly, the works of Edmund Burke.
Regardless of his influences, Tocqueville s most serious concern is that democracy may give rise to
certain forms of despotism. Without local institutions...the despotic tendencies which have been driven
into the interior of the social body will sooner or later break out on the surface. In the introductory
chapter to Democracy in America, Tocqueville expresses his famous opinion that the movement of the
history of Christendom over the course of the previous 700 years has invariably been in the direction
of democratic equality. This is the foundation of Tocqueville s inevitability theory. He implies that
democracy in inevitable in the same way that the spread of civilization and enlightenment are
inevitable. Best known for his popular critique, Democracy in America, first published in

A Star s Temperature And Luminosity Analysis
According to the book, If you know a star s temperature and luminosity, you can determine its radius
(Seeds 151). The luminosity of a star is related to its absolute magnitude, and its spectral class has a
relation to the star s temperature. So, in order to estimate the size of Betelgeuse, we would need both
its luminosity (in which we can substitute its absolute magnitude) and its temperature (spectral class),
which we have been provided. The absolute magnitude refers to the brightness of a star if it were 10
pc away (Seeds 145), and the lower the number the brighter the star (and vice versa). According to the
spectral sequence, which goes O, B, A, F, G, K, then M, O stars are the hottest...M stars, the coolest
(Seeds 148), with M stars being orange/red in color.
From here, one would use the Hertzsprung Russell Diagram, which compares luminosity and spectral
class in order to estimate a star s size. A H R diagram possesses ... Show more content on

So what does this mean in regards to Betelgeuse s size? Well, there is only one explanation: Although
they are cool, they are luminous, and that must mean they are larger and have more surface area than
main sequence stars of the same temperature (Seeds 154). This means that Betelgeuse is a red giant,
which are roughly 10 to 100 times larger than the sun (Seeds 154). In fact, according to the H R
diagram on page 155, Betelgeuse is even considered a supergiant, which are over a thousand times the
sun s diameter (Seeds 154). In conclusion, one can estimate the size of roughly any star if the absolute
magnitude (or luminosity) and spectral class (or temperature) is known using the H R diagram! In
Betelgeuse s case, we can estimate that it is an extremely large supergiant star based on its position on

Theme Of Gender In Twelfth Night
The Struggle of the Sexes in Shakespeare s Twelfth Night The interchangeability of the sexes is a
prevalent implication throughout William Shakespeare Twelfth Night. In fact, the concluding romantic
pairings are only introduced, as well as established, at the very end of the play. In addition, gender,
either assumed by one character or inferred by one character of another character, proves to be
irrelevant when initial attractions develop between characters. This suggests that Shakespeare
believed, homoerotic and heterosexual love [were] not [...] mutually exclusive in a person s makeup
(Lindheim 692). His arbitrary portrayal of gender throughout the play thus creates a work of literature
that strays from the conventions of the romance genre of the time. The romance genre has generally
been characterized as:
A quest undertaken by a single knight in order to gain a lady s favour; frequently its central interest is
courtly love, together with tournaments fought and dragons and monsters slain for the damsel s sake;
it stresses the chivalric ideas of courage, loyalty, honor, mercifulness to an opponent, and elaborate
manners (Abrams 48).
Twelfth Night can more accurately be defined as a subgenre of the romance, namely the romantic
comedy:
A love affair that involves a beautiful and engaging heroine (sometimes disguised as a man); the
course of this love does not run smooth, yet overcomes all difficulties to end in a happy union
(Abrams 54).
While Twelfth Night fits into

Gold Standard Essay
The gold standard refers to a monetary system in which the fixed amount of gold is used to define the
value of country s currency and the country s currency is freely interchangeable to gold. To guarantee
convertibility, the supply of money issued by the central back was entirely restricted by the quantity of
gold reserves in the nation. International payments are compensated in term of gold. Under the gold
standard system, the value of a fixed quantity of gold reflects the value of the country s currency, thus
leading to a fixed exchange rate, which is determined by the gold weights. For instance, if the gold
price in the United State is $400 per an ounce, the dollar s value will be 1/400 for an ounce of gold. As

First of all, the great advantage of the gold standard is that it portrayed long term price stability. It was
used as the buffer against risk for both monetary policy and inflation expectation as it restrict the
government s power to inflate prices by printing excessive money. Under the gold standard, further
money printed must correspond to amount of gold available in the economy. Thus, it was nearly
impossible for the countries to experience hyperinflation. Another worthy benefit of the gold standard
is that it sets up a fixed exchanged rage among participating counties as well as abolishes exchange
rate volatility. Thus, the system provides a favorable economy in promoting international trade and
investment. Historically, if the price levels in the participating countries were not balanced, it would
be offset by the price specie flow mechanism. which is the automatic balance of payment adjustment
mechanism. For imports country, the use of gold to pay for the goods will suddenly decrease its
money supply and therefor lead to deflation, making to country more competitive. In contrast, the gold
receiving in exchange for goods for the exporters country will increase money supply and lead to
inflation, making the country less

The Castle Of Otranto By Horace Walpole Purchased...
Introduction
In 1747, Horace Walpole purchased Strawberry Hill, which was situated on the Thames close London;
here he resuscitated the Gothic style numerous decades prior to his Victorian successors. It was a
response against neoclassicism. This whimsical neo gothic invention started another design incline.
This affected his composition and actually, the English Gothic novel began with his Gothic story ; The
Castle of Otranto . Fundamentally, a Gothic novel is said to incorporate sorcery, riddle, heavenly,
uncanny and tension. The interpretation of a Gothic novel contrasts from reader to reader. A Gothic
work is to have a unquestionable mixing of remote setting, destroyed strongholds, dilapidated houses,
mazes, cells, dull halls, cellar, moonlight, candles, winding stairs, fierce interests, inbreeding, odd
fixation, and condemnations. This sort makes sentiments of agony, riddle, dread, tension since their
point is to investigate humankind s dull side and question humanity about what is great and
underhandedness, address what part the powerful shows, and experience dread or fear.
Gothic Literature
Gothic writing was a development that concentrated on demolish, rot, demise, dread, and disarray, and
special mindlessness and energy over discernment and reason, developed in light of the chronicled,
sociological, mental, and political settings of the late eighteenth and mid nineteenth hundreds of years.
It is a style of composing that for the most part includes phantoms

Do you think that Tim Delaney possessed necessary characteristics to become a successful
entrepreneur by February 1993? Since his youth, Tim Delaney was a hard working and determined
person which continued to demonstrate during his path. Before starting University, he did labour work
which steeled his determination to being paid to think . He showed a lot of flair and creativity during
his studies and won a first prize for best business plan. His undergraduate in Entrepreneurship
Marketing empowered him with the technical knowledge required to start his own business. We

Beside George, Neverfail obtained financing from an investor from Seattle, who made an initial
offering of $50.000, followed by a second one of $100.000, one year later. In our opinion Neverfail
was not ready for the initial external financing, they didn t have the appropriate strategy or innovative
projects in that moment. However, to grow the company needed expand its sales (besides the related
with big distributors). Therefore, money obtained from Business Angels where invested almost totally
into Sales. Looking at the Neverfail s Statement of Operations from March 1994, we can notice that
SG A constituted approx. 92% of all operating expenses while the other 8% was generated by R D. In
the financial year ended March 31, 1994, Neverfail had a current ratio of 1.12 and the acid test showed
that its current assets minus inventories can cover only 0.63 times its current liabilities, what is a bad
signal taking under consideration the fact that George acted already in that time as a factor. Since the
company´s products were directed to a low end market, its gross margin was low (32% of revenue).
The productivity of Neverfail, measured by total asset turnover, was equal to 2.48 and its inventory
turnover to 6.27. Neverfail decided to raise the money since its strategy, whilst profitable from day
one, did not generate the target funds which were extremely necessary to

Aliens Of The Human Kind
Aliens of the Human Kind
A man, marked with the scars of a long dangerous journey. Hot, bleak, and empty, the dry air and
glaring lack of life created a tangible sense of doom. Risking it all for his family, leaving his country,
crossing the border. This man has created a new life, he is now an alien in the land of freedom and
prosperity. An illegal immigrant is defined as anyone who moves to a country with intent on living
there, without any form of identification. Illegal immigration comes into play when people do not
follow the guidelines during the immigration process. Today there are many issues that surround
immigration: reformation of the system, amnesty, and the over effects. This raises the question, just
how do undocumented immigrants affect the US, politically, socially, and economically?
Many immigrants are currently coming to the US illegally are from Latin America. Back in the late
1800 s we had a different type of immigration problems with the Chinese. On May 6, 1882 president
Chester A. Arthur signed the Chinese exclusion act which prohibited all Chinese from entering the US
(wikipedia). Back in those times there was less sensitivity towards racism. One thing that was similar
between the two times were their motives for coming: money. Although 2016 is different than 1882,
we can still look to the past to guide our future.
Immigrants, aliens, illegals, whatever nomenclature you want to use, are a double edged sword. When
people move into an area, legally or

The Moral Of Moral Education
The Importance of Moral Education Every person, throughout their life, develops a unique standard of
morals. Morals help to establish personal opinions, choices, and both social and private behavior.
Overall, Morals craft personality, an attribute special to each individual. However, many people
struggle to identify the place of origin of which their morals were initially acquired. The novel To Kill
a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, follows the moral development of Jean Louise, or Scout , and her older
brother Jeremy Jem Finch as they grow throughout the course of the story. While a personal
experience can help to establish moral beliefs, the greatest production of major moral education is
obtained through one s elders when they are an adolescent. Scout and Jem are constantly taught moral
lessons from their father, Atticus, who provides the children with a wise and honest statement about
current conflicts. Miss Maudie serves as one motherly figure and gives Scout and Jem hope,
optimism, and judgement. Calpurnia is another motherly figure and teaches the two children about
manners. Aunt Alexandra and Mrs. Dubose are both representation of what the children hope to avoid
in maturing but each ghastly figure provides a deep lesson in respect and honor. Each elder that is
present in Scout and Jem s daily life serves as an outlet for a moral education. The most moral
development is taught by Atticus and is being absorbed by his two children, Scout and Jem. Atticus
provides the

The Celluloid Closet Movie Analysis
The Celluloid Closet is a documentary directed/written by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. The
film shows numerous clips of actors who act in the role as a gay, bisexual, transgender, or a lesbian
character. This movie gives the audience a great insight of what it like to make a movie like that in
Hollywood. They interview men and women who either portray as a character in the film, by giving
their personal experience what it like to be that character they portray, or either directed/written a
movie about it. In the beginning of the film, the word SISSY is a trait in a boy or a man that associate
with feminine behavior or style. It can also be a woman with muscular traits.
Does Sissy liberate? Yes, Hollywood allowed it. Sissy s was never open about their sexuality they
were mainly like a subliminal in a film. The subject was never discussed privately or even in public,
but you knew by the behavior of the men or women. Hollywood industry felt that if a man dress as a
woman they think it comedy. When a woman dress as a man they think she look pretty or sexy for
both men and women. Looking through the history of homosexual, gay and lesbian films, you can see
the progress, but you can also see the era in the time when people at once was afraid to now people are
more open. For example, in the 1920s people was more scared to come out and be who they are. At
the time not, much actors wanted to act or portray as homosexual because they thought it will ruin
their career. Compare

Attivation Of School Observation
General Information My Observation took place on 09/21/17. I arrived at 9:00am and departed at
12:30pm. I went to a Head Start program which is a public institution. The grade level that I observed
was Pre K and the children were around four years old.
Staff
In the program, there was one teacher and one teacher s aide. The class had sixteen children. The
Staff/Child ratio was 1:8 which means they had an adequate amount of staff for the children. There
were nine girls and seven boys in the classroom.
Activities
When the children arrived to Head Start the first thing they did was to go to a bin that had their names
in it. They searched for their names and tried to write it on a piece of paper which is counted as
attendance. After they wrote their names they picked what job they had that day which includes
teachers helper, bell ringer and other options. They then participated in organized play with specific
toys as they waited for the rest of their peers to arrive. They then ate breakfast and after participated in
a large group lesson containing children pointing out the first letters of their names. After the group
lesson, they had free play and then went outside to the playground. Interaction Upon arrival, the
children are encouraged to find and write their names which the teacher s aid was very attentive. She
helped the kids whenever they needed help writing, which is an example of scaffolding. Teachers
encourage and assist children in their own efforts to write (Bredekamp Copple, 2009, p.169). She also
praised them when they finished writing their names and encouraged them to pick a job of the day on
the job board. The teacher and the teacher s aide often referred to the children as their friends .
Whenever a child needed help they would say My friend, what can I help you with? . Referring to the
children as this created a pleasant environment and most likely made the children feel as though they
are loved. After writing their names and picking their jobs children are encouraged to play with
specific boxes of toys at the tables. The toys were mostly building toys that children can make
something out of. The teacher would sometimes show the children different things they could build

The Use Of Psychological Tactics On Human Behavior
According to the USDA, the average family will spend anywhere from $146 to $289 on groceries per
week. The science behind this outrageous spending cost derives from the basic concept of
manipulation; supermarkets will capitalize on human spending by appealing to their basic nature.
Humans have become oblivious to their spending over the years because walking into a store to
purchase necessities has become more of a privilege than an imperative right. Individuals have the
mindset that name brands are the only product they desire when in actuality, the only difference
between a name brand and the generic product is the logo. Emotional scientist have studied the human
patterns of shopping and broken it down into a simplistic algorithm that encourages humans to
purchase more than they need. Supermarkets use psychological tactics to attract consumers to certain
commodities by exploiting product promotion, availability, placement, and social influence or in other
words, marketing.
An emotional scientist or a psychologist is a professional that studies, identifies, and decides which
products appeal to the human mind more so than others. This psychologist is not your average
Freudian follower he or she will not tell you that you purchase specific products because of sexual
stimulation; rather they will identify certain aspects (color, promotion, etc.) of a product and suggest
these features to go into product promotion. Color preference is a personal attribute that is

How To Prevent Lyme Disease
People living in the Northeast area with high incidence need to have an adequate level of
susceptibility. Recognizing risky environments need to be followed by various type of precautions.
Lyme disease is a zoonotic disease that can cause a range of symptoms including rash, joint pain,

Essay about Employee Benefits Required By Law
Employee Benefits Required by Law
The legally required employee benefits constitute nearly a quarter of the benefits package that
employers provide. These benefits include employer contributions to Social Security, unemployment
insurance, and workers compensation insurance. Altogether such benefits represent about twenty one
and half percent of payroll costs.
Social Security
Social Security is the federally administered insurance system. Under current federal laws, both
employer and employee must pay into the system, and a certain percentage of the employee s salary is
paid up to a maximum limit. Social Security is mandatory for employees ... Show more content on

It is possible for an individual who dies or becomes totally disabled at an early age to be classified as
fully insured with less than 40 quarters. To receive old age insurance benefits, covered individuals
must also meet the test of retirement. To meet this test, persons under 70 cannot be earning more than
an established amount through gainful employment. This limitation of earnings does not include
income from sources other than gainful employment such as investments or pensions. Social security
retirement benefits consist of those benefits which individuals are entitled to receive in their own
behalf, called the primary insurance amount, plus supplemental benefits for eligible dependents. These
benefits can be determined from a prepared table. There are also both minimum and maximum limits
to the amount that individuals and their dependents can receive.
The Social Security program provides benefit payments to workers who are too severely disabled to
engage in gainful employment. In order to be eligible for such benefits, an individual s disability must
have existed for at least 6 month and must be expected to continue for at least 12 months. Those
eligible for disability benefits must have worked under Social Security for a t least 5 out of the 10
years before becoming disabled. Disability benefits, which include auxiliary benefits for dependents,
are computed on the same basis as retirement benefits and are converted to retirement

First, The Harlem Renaissance was a cultural movement throughout the 1920 s and 1930 s. When studying the transnational political practices of Chilean migrants in the Netherlands, a transnational approach forms part of the theoretical framework. The work on transnational migration by Glick Schiller, Basch and Blanc Szanton (1992) offers this analytical framework. Glick Schiller et al. have been among the first scholars to have introduced a transnational approach in understanding the effects of migration. They define transnationalism as The processes by which immigrants build social fields that link together their country of origin and their country of settlement (p.1). These migrants who are involved in transnationalism are labeled transmigrants . Transmigrants develop and maintain multiple relations familial, economic, social, organizational, religious, and political that span borders (1992, p.1). These transnational linkages that transcend national borders can be placed in the light of a bigger phenomenon called globalization. Globalization makes the world figuratively smaller and more compressed in terms of time and space. According to Inda and Rosaldo (2008), globalization creates interconnection and relations between places and people that go beyond the territorial borders of a nation state. • 16. Theme Of Gender In Twelfth Night The Struggle of the Sexes in Shakespeare s Twelfth Night The interchangeability of the sexes is a prevalent implication throughout William Shakespeare Twelfth Night. In fact, the concluding romantic pairings are only introduced, as well as established, at the very end of the play. In addition, gender, either assumed by one character or inferred by one character of another character, proves to be irrelevant when initial attractions develop between characters. This suggests that Shakespeare believed, homoerotic and heterosexual love [were] not [...] mutually exclusive in a person s makeup (Lindheim 692). His arbitrary portrayal of gender throughout the play thus creates a work of literature that strays from the conventions of the romance genre of the time. The romance genre has generally been characterized as: A quest undertaken by a single knight in order to gain a lady s favour; frequently its central interest is courtly love, together with tournaments fought and dragons and monsters slain for the damsel s sake; it stresses the chivalric ideas of courage, loyalty, honor, mercifulness to an opponent, and elaborate manners (Abrams 48). Twelfth Night can more accurately be defined as a subgenre of the romance, namely the romantic comedy: A love affair that involves a beautiful and engaging heroine (sometimes disguised as a man); the course of this love does not run smooth, yet overcomes all difficulties to end in a happy union (Abrams 54). Beside George, Neverfail obtained financing from an investor from Seattle, who made an initial offering of $50.000, followed by a second one of $100.000, one year later. In our opinion Neverfail was not ready for the initial external financing, they didn t have the appropriate strategy or innovative projects in that moment. However, to grow the company needed expand its sales (besides the related with big distributors). Therefore, money obtained from Business Angels where invested almost totally into Sales. Looking at the Neverfail s Statement of Operations from March 1994, we can notice that SG A constituted approx. 92% of all operating expenses while the other 8% was generated by R D. In the financial year ended March 31, 1994, Neverfail had a current ratio of 1.12 and the acid test showed that its current assets minus inventories can cover only 0.63 times its current liabilities, what is a bad signal taking under consideration the fact that George acted already in that time as a factor. Since the company´s products were directed to a low end market, its gross margin was low (32% of revenue). The productivity of Neverfail, measured by total asset turnover, was equal to 2.48 and its inventory turnover to 6.27. Neverfail decided to raise the money since its strategy, whilst profitable from day one, did not generate the target funds which were extremely necessary to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Aliens Of The Human Kind Aliens of the Human Kind A man, marked with the scars of a long dangerous journey. Hot, bleak, and empty, the dry air and glaring lack of life created a tangible sense of doom. Risking it all for his family, leaving his country, crossing the border. This man has created a new life, he is now an alien in the land of freedom and prosperity. An illegal immigrant is defined as anyone who moves to a country with intent on living there, without any form of identification. Illegal immigration comes into play when people do not follow the guidelines during the immigration process. Today there are many issues that surround immigration: reformation of the system, amnesty, and the over effects. This raises the question, just how do undocumented immigrants affect the US, politically, socially, and economically? Many immigrants are currently coming to the US illegally are from Latin America. Back in the late 1800 s we had a different type of immigration problems with the Chinese. On May 6, 1882 president Chester A. Arthur signed the Chinese exclusion act which prohibited all Chinese from entering the US (wikipedia). Back in those times there was less sensitivity towards racism. One thing that was similar between the two times were their motives for coming: money. Although 2016 is different than 1882, we can still look to the past to guide our future. Immigrants, aliens, illegals, whatever nomenclature you want to use, are a double edged sword. When people move into an area, legally or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Moral Of Moral Education The Importance of Moral Education Every person, throughout their life, develops a unique standard of morals. Morals help to establish personal opinions, choices, and both social and private behavior. Overall, Morals craft personality, an attribute special to each individual. However, many people struggle to identify the place of origin of which their morals were initially acquired. The novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, follows the moral development of Jean Louise, or Scout , and her older brother Jeremy Jem Finch as they grow throughout the course of the story. While a personal experience can help to establish moral beliefs, the greatest production of major moral education is obtained through one s elders when they are an adolescent. Scout and Jem are constantly taught moral lessons from their father, Atticus, who provides the children with a wise and honest statement about current conflicts. Miss Maudie serves as one motherly figure and gives Scout and Jem hope, optimism, and judgement. Calpurnia is another motherly figure and teaches the two children about manners. Aunt Alexandra and Mrs. Dubose are both representation of what the children hope to avoid in maturing but each ghastly figure provides a deep lesson in respect and honor. Each elder that is present in Scout and Jem s daily life serves as an outlet for a moral education. The most moral development is taught by Atticus and is being absorbed by his two children, Scout and Jem. Atticus provides the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Celluloid Closet Movie Analysis The Celluloid Closet is a documentary directed/written by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman. The film shows numerous clips of actors who act in the role as a gay, bisexual, transgender, or a lesbian character. This movie gives the audience a great insight of what it like to make a movie like that in Hollywood. They interview men and women who either portray as a character in the film, by giving their personal experience what it like to be that character they portray, or either directed/written a movie about it. In the beginning of the film, the word SISSY is a trait in a boy or a man that associate with feminine behavior or style. It can also be a woman with muscular traits. Does Sissy liberate? Yes, Hollywood allowed it. Sissy s was never open about their sexuality they were mainly like a subliminal in a film. The subject was never discussed privately or even in public, but you knew by the behavior of the men or women. Hollywood industry felt that if a man dress as a woman they think it comedy. When a woman dress as a man they think she look pretty or sexy for both men and women. Looking through the history of homosexual, gay and lesbian films, you can see the progress, but you can also see the era in the time when people at once was afraid to now people are more open. • 28. Attivation Of School Observation General Information My Observation took place on 09/21/17. I arrived at 9:00am and departed at 12:30pm. I went to a Head Start program which is a public institution. The grade level that I observed was Pre K and the children were around four years old. Staff In the program, there was one teacher and one teacher s aide. The class had sixteen children. The Staff/Child ratio was 1:8 which means they had an adequate amount of staff for the children. There were nine girls and seven boys in the classroom. Activities When the children arrived to Head Start the first thing they did was to go to a bin that had their names in it. They searched for their names and tried to write it on a piece of paper which is counted as attendance. After they wrote their names they picked what job they had that day which includes teachers helper, bell ringer and other options. They then participated in organized play with specific toys as they waited for the rest of their peers to arrive. They then ate breakfast and after participated in a large group lesson containing children pointing out the first letters of their names. After the group lesson, they had free play and then went outside to the playground. Interaction Upon arrival, the children are encouraged to find and write their names which the teacher s aid was very attentive. She helped the kids whenever they needed help writing, which is an example of scaffolding. Teachers encourage and assist children in their own efforts to write (Bredekamp Copple, 2009, p.169). She also praised them when they finished writing their names and encouraged them to pick a job of the day on the job board. The teacher and the teacher s aide often referred to the children as their friends . Whenever a child needed help they would say My friend, what can I help you with? . Referring to the children as this created a pleasant environment and most likely made the children feel as though they are loved. After writing their names and picking their jobs children are encouraged to play with specific boxes of toys at the tables. The toys were mostly building toys that children can make something out of. The teacher would sometimes show the children different things they could build ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Use Of Psychological Tactics On Human Behavior According to the USDA, the average family will spend anywhere from $146 to $289 on groceries per week. The science behind this outrageous spending cost derives from the basic concept of manipulation; supermarkets will capitalize on human spending by appealing to their basic nature. Humans have become oblivious to their spending over the years because walking into a store to purchase necessities has become more of a privilege than an imperative right. Individuals have the mindset that name brands are the only product they desire when in actuality, the only difference between a name brand and the generic product is the logo. Emotional scientist have studied the human patterns of shopping and broken it down into a simplistic algorithm that encourages humans to purchase more than they need. Supermarkets use psychological tactics to attract consumers to certain commodities by exploiting product promotion, availability, placement, and social influence or in other words, marketing. An emotional scientist or a psychologist is a professional that studies, identifies, and decides which products appeal to the human mind more so than others. This psychologist is not your average Freudian follower he or she will not tell you that you purchase specific products because of sexual stimulation; rather they will identify certain aspects (color, promotion, etc.) of a product and suggest these features to go into product promotion. Color preference is a personal attribute that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
