2. Analysis Of The Passing Of Grandison
The famous author Charles Chesnutt presents changes in characters to survive during the pre civil too
post civil war. One example is in The Passing of Grandison slaves would act uneducated to deceive
and gain their masters trust and then change and show their true personality. Many stories set in this
period represent how hard it is for change to happen within people or a community. Another example
is the The sheriff s children a small southern town known as Branson county is one of the most
conservative states in the union. The town is very simple almost primitive. One example of their
simplicity is they live off their farms. They would be considered poor but there is no upper class to
compare them to the county is so poor. In most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he describes a day of A steady stream of curious observers (34) this shows a sudden change in
the town s atmosphere. Chesnutt compares this to the usual town when only time that it is busy is
when farmers are trading or sailing crops. He wants to reveal how much it takes to get individuals that
are so set in their ways to change their daily routine. He does this by putting in a major event of death
to show how important it must be for them to come to town. Chesnutt also presents the word curious
to reveal his opinion that the town is in a state of immaturity. He does this to show that the town
demonstrates that the lives of many uneducated or uncivilized individuals become a primitive routine
instead of a life. Chesnutt reveals that individuals may not even realize that there is an opportunity for
change. Chesnutt stresses the images of the town s ideas will take a great force to change. The first
example is The Sheriff was conscientious: his conscience had merely been warped by his environment
(43). Chesnutt uses warped to illustrate to the reader bending or morphing into something new and
better. He chooses warped for a very specific reason to allow the reader to understand that if
something is warped it can always be refurbished. When metal is refurbished it is a heating and
cooling process of the metal and allowing it to be changed. Chesnutt allows the reader to understand
that the reference between heating process and how

3. The Beatles Influence On Music Essay
During the course, I was able to learn the various artists and their works that slowly evolved into
something extremely influential through different eras. Some artists made songs that were personal
and others made music based on making an impact on the population. One song in particular that is
personally the strongest lyrically for influential action is The Beatles Revolution released in 1968.
Considering how huge they were during their time, the outcome of the people hearing that particular
song was at large and was at huge importance to the fans and unfortunate stance the country was going
through. This song was released on the Apple label and was one of the bigger hits off the album. The
Beatles influence on music was so huge that even history books included their arrival to America and
considered it as turning point in the history of Rock. This song has a cold war focus although it does
get to mentions Vietnam. The Cold war had been going on during this era and was the reason for the
creation of the song. Anti war songs were a great statement to make especially for a group with a

5. Darius The Great Of The Empire
Darius I, also known as Darius the Great, was the third king who reigned from 550 486 BCE during
the Achaemenid Empire. While he lived, Darius held the empire at its peak, which stretched from the
river Nile and parts of Northern Greece to the Indus River Valley. One of the most major events in
Darius s life was his expedition to discipline Athens and Eretria for their support in the Ionian Revolt.
He made his empire larger by vanquishing Thrace and Macedonia, and occupying Scythia. He also
arranged his empire, by splitting it into provinces and placing governors to rule over it. Darius
organized a new financial system, along with making Aramaic the official language of the empire. He
followed religious tolerance that created peace within the empire. Darius order the carving of the cliff

as the eldest of five sons to a leading figure of power in Persia named Hystaspes. Herodotus of
Halicarnassus, author of The Histories, wrote that after a dream that seemed to predict Darius reign,
King Cyrus became suspicious of the son of Hystaspes, who was about twenty at that time and had
been left behind in Persia because he was too young for war (Herodotus) . Herodotus adds that Cyrus
sent back Hystaspes to control his son. A couple days late and the king was killed in action against the

6. Pleasure And Pain By Susan Boyd Summary
Name Rakshanda Amit

Usually, when you think about the term drug, you may assume that it is an unpleasant substance that
poses an undesired experience. As the individual grows, he is warned by parents at home, relatives in
society, and teachers in school about the most dangerous and destructive consequences of drug use.
Nowadays, these messages have been conveyed through the media and film industry. But years back,
these entertainment platforms were showing drugs to be a pleasurable substance. Moreover, these
platforms sometimes stereotype the people who take drugs.
Susan Boyd, the author, is recognized for composing the article Pleasure and Pain that creates a

The next thing Boyd researches is the time of rock and roll. After watching one of the three films she
mentioned. He figured that the main lead in the film who uses drugs was portrayed in the positive.
They did not fully go against of what Boyd has believed. The main protagonist used to do drugs and
did found pleasure in doing it, but he did it because he did not want to collapse in the norm of society.
He also did to improve his life through drug dealing as he wanted a way where he could make money
easily and quickly.
During 1970 s there was a big change in the industry of entertainment. This was the time where the
African Americans were becoming a part of the working class. During this time, there were some
social and political changes which were occurring due to the Black Panther Party and also because of
the civil rights movement. Boyd discusses a movie called Superfly (1972). This movie shows the real
condition of poor black people in New York City. How they were not getting work and because of
which they had to smuggle drugs for their living. However, this film disagrees with Mandelson s
opinion. According to him, majority of people in his films were nonwhite people but there has been

But how did all these interstellar wonders appear into our everyday life? What pushed our civilization
to expand out tech beyond the sky. The answer to that starts with politics. To be more exact, a nazi v2

space. And not soon after, the USSR buried the dagger even deeper with a couple more Russians
waving the red flag in outer space. The US barely catching up, launched into space. The states can

13. Divine Unicity
hapter three of Malise Ruthven s book, Islam: A Very Short Introduction, is dedicated to the subject of
divine unicity and the fact that, although it is a very important belief in Islam, the Muslim world is
characterised by disunity. The word tawhid means unicity, and there is an insistence that it is unicity
above all that defines divinity, which is not directly mentioned in the Quran, but is implied. The idea
can be traced back to 657, when Mu Äwiya s soldiers placed pages of the Quran on their lances,
symbolizing that they are also Muslims like Alī s supporters, calling upon this sacred unicity to reach
arbitration. Throughout the history of Islam, similarly to Christianity, there have been countless breaks
and divisions, ultimately leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unicity exists in all three, but in Islam it is divine unicity; the idea that there is is no god but God,
which conflicts with the present sectarianism (57). Sunni, ShÄ«āa, and other Islamic sects all believe in
Allah as all Christians and Jews believe in God, however, division comes through interpretation,
which varies from person to person and the acceptability of beliefs depended on the influence of their
leaders. Each sect has different answers to particular questions, such as what qualifies a person to be
Muslim, which groups like the Seceders believed that any serious sinners could no longer be Muslims
but the Murjia believe anyone making the profession of faith was a Muslim. There is also the question
of predestination and free will that coincides with whether or not the Quran was created. The
Muātazila believed in the Created Quran while the Ashāaris believed in the Uncreated Quran, differing
on the essence of God and his unicity, with that latter having a philosophy of acceptance without
asking questions (66 67).
The Muslim world could be united should each sect accept their difference with respect and
understanding that there still is only one God. Divine unicity would be better practiced as a force that
brought Muslims together without generating conflict that is concerned with the finer political and
theological distinctions.

17. Analysis Of Whedon s Joss Whedon
Joss Whedon is a writer of many successful TV shows. One of the reasons that his shows have gained
so much attention is because he likes to use them to present his views on controversial topics. Joss
does this by switching gender roles and using powerful symbols. You can see this in both Buffy the
Vampire Slayer and Dollhouse. You can see this in both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dollhouse. He
does this in order to change societies views on woman in society. To prove this I will give a few
powerful examples from each show that makes it perfectly clear how Joss feels on the matter. Also, I
want to talk a little about some of the speeches Joss has made on television where he talks about his
work and why he does it.
The most important role reversal in Buffy is quite obvious. It is the reversal of rules between Buffy
and her male sidekicks. Buffy this strong and witty girl who run s around slaying vampires. While all
of the male side characters are practically useless. You can find an example of this in practically every
episode. Starting with episode 1 you see this when angle is following Buffy and she slips him and
jumps him. Or like in episode 5 when she has to save Giles from the super vamp after he got knocked
out yet again. Then there is Xander the most useless of all the male characters. Xander is constantly

18. Consumer Culture And Economic Development Of Western Cultures
Consumer Culture is at the root of all social, political and economic development of western cultures
for the past three hundred years. Advertisements become a key role in creating ideological messages

corporations to influence the minds of the buyer. When a company produces an ad or commercial,
their main objective is to get the viewers attention in order to sell the product. Many different methods
are used to lure an audience in; tactics may include print or commercial ads, to either inform or to
target individuals into consuming goods. There have been constant debates surrounding females in
advertisements and the ways in which women are defined through their constructed identities. Society
plays a heavy hand in constructing individuals gender roles, and in turn many of our identities.
Women during the 1950s and onwards have been a byproduct in advertising campaigns, their roles
were limited and became repetitive overtime. A women s identity was constructed towards the ability
to maintain a household, women were only ever viewed as housewives, through the multiple
advertisements that conveyed images of what it meant to be a well rounded caregiver, it became the
only thing that was ever taught to them. Shirley Chisholm is recognized for her famously outspoken

19. Pros And Cons Of Caesarean Section
Caesarean section (CS) was brought in clinical practice as a life saving procedure both for mother and
baby. Caesarean section (CS ) is a surgical intervention which is carried out to assure safety of mother
and child when vaginal delivery is difficult or when the doctors consider that the danger to the mother
and baby would be greater with a vaginal delivery. One of the important indicators of emergency
obstetric care is Caeserean section rate (World Health Organization 2009). Various matters like the
health care inequity pattern of the world: underuse of CS in low income settings, and adequate or even
unnecessary use in middle and high income settings can be observed and followed with use of
Caeserean section rate(1). Caeserean section rate below 5 per cent signifies that substantial proportion
of women do not have access to surgical obstetric care; however a rate higher than 15 per cent
connotes over utilization of the surgical procedure for reasons other than for life saving ones (WHO

perspectives IS/IT is a essential component of the organisation and therefore implementation of IT
strategy controls the success of the company and therefore is closely linked to the business strategy
and thus implementation of strategy is a natural progression of formulation of the strategy. In the
Strategy Execution perspective greater business value is perhaps generated in other ways than IT e.g.
through products or services which are supported by IT solutions that are general in the industry as in
the case of transport companies. Ciborra s article starts off with the challenging view that alignment of
business and IT is dead or unnecessary but concludes finally that it is necessary but introduces the
terms care, hospitality and cultivation. His main argument seems to be that strategic alignment
appeared on the scene as a result of research initiated by IBM and when after a number of years the
research could not find ways of quantifying the level of alignment interest from IBM waned and their
funding of the research ended. Subsequent research in the area of alignment avoided using the word

22. The Good Earth By Pearl S. Buck
The literary works of a society contain an abundance of information concerning its culture in regards
to the time period that they were written in. Many significant documents written in history have had a
vital impact on certain civilizations . An example of this is the Xiao Jing, which is a Chinese treatise
that throughly explains the concept of filial piety. The Chinese strictly adhered to and lived by the
rules set forth in the Xiao Jing, therefore these written set of rules greatly the influenced the way of
life, behavior, and beliefs of Chinese people. A major point covered in the Xiao Jing is the role and
position women have in Chinese society. Women were considered slaves, and their purposes in life
were to serve the men they belonged to. The Good Earth, by Pearl S. Buck is a novel that
demonstrates the expectations and roles of women in Chinese culture through the characters O lan and
Lotus as their worths are determined by their abilities to work, bear children, and/or please their men
sexually like most women in China. The novel begins with O Lan, Wang Lung s unattractive first
wife, who he married while he was very poor. Wang Lung was looking forward to this marriage
because his wife would take over the chore of boiling water in the morning and cooking for his father.
A passage in the book stated, Now father and son could rest. There was a woman coming to the house.
Never again would Wang Lung have to rise summer and winter at dawn to light the fire. He could

24. Network Connectivity Issues Can Crop Up At Any Time
Network connectivity issues can crop up at any time and the issues seen could be related to any area of
the network or Internet that a user is connected. There are several programs that could be used to help
determine where the error or issue may reside. The four programs that will be reviewed are ipconfig,
ping, tracert and nslookup. Ipconfig is a program on Windows systems that show network settings for
the network adaptors on the computer system. Microsoft describes ipconfig as Displays all current
TCP/IP network configuration values and refreshes Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
and Domain Name System (DNS) settings ( Ipconfig, n.d.). Running ipconfig without any options will
show the adaptor s IP address, subnet mask and default gateway settings. To gain more information
about the adaptor the /all option should be used (Figure 1). Two items that is important is DCHP
Enabled and the DHCP server. If DHCP Enabled is set to yes, then the IP address is supplied by the
DHCP server. The next program could be used to determine if the host could communicate with the
DHCP server and other hosts or network devices. Ping is used to determine if a host or network device
is reachable on the network. Ping can be thought of like ping pong. The ping command sends out a
request to an IP address and waits for a response. If a host or network device is running, setup to
respond to ping requests and the response is sent within the timeout, then a response

The explanation for the increase in wireless network costs is explained as a result of an increase in the
average cost per unit, driven by a shift to higher priced units in the mix of devices sold, partially offset
by a decline in the number of units sold. While Wireless costs went up, Selling, general and
administrative expenses went down. This was due to non operational credits recorded in 2015. A
contributing factor of this was a decline in sales commission in the Wireless segment. This drop in
commissions was due to an increase in consumers choosing to use the device payment plan rather than
point of sale purchase. Depreciation and amortization expenses also decreased in 2015. This was due
to Depreciation and amortization expenses not being recorded on Wireline assets in California,
Florida, and Texas. These Assets are classified as held for sale as of February 5, 2015. Verizon
explained their reasoning for this in the review by stating We will not record depreciation and
amortization expense on our depreciable Wireline assets in California, Florida and Texas through the
closing of the transaction with Frontier, which is expected to occur at the end of the first quarter of
2016. (Verizon, 2015) Overall

The world is composed of many people, all with different histories, which create various perspectives
within a society and culture. People who conform to a general idea generate a society, and the change

locations allows for individuals to develop in ways that contrast from each other, enabling
controversial conversations to shape the atmosphere in which they inhabit. The variety of opinions can

Computer Ethics Computer ethics is a branch of applied ethics that considers ethical issues raised or
significantly amplified by computer technology. Moor (2006). Its been stated in several works that
computers give people power, which means people have the choice to use this wisely and ethically.
While society has benefited from this power , there are still ethical concerns that need attention such
as privacy of data, security, reliability of data, intellectual property, and accessibility. Mark D. Bowles,
Deborah G. Johnson, and H. Lodewyckx all have given their points of view on this wide spread topic,
that all seem to have a common ground when it comes to the basic concerns of ethics in computing. In
the first chapter of Introduction to digital literacy Bowles highlights five most common ethical issues
related to the emergence of computers in society. He states that even though computers were a type of
power that they should not be treated any differently from any other technology. With the five issues
that he lists, he gives a short explanation of each. In the article Ethics Online by Deborah G Johnson,
she breaks down special characteristics of communication in networks describing the benefits and
ethical concerns of each. Johnson also states that with technology emerging so fast the law and
technological systems will not be able to control human behavior, which she claims the major problem
to be. She thinks that the only hope for society is for the individuals

These columns are known as the Corinthian Order. My plan for St. Peter s called for these same
columns to circle the largest dome of the basilica. The Capitol Building pulls this same strategy off
perfectly! Surely, the architects of the building known as William Thorton, Benjamin Henry Latrobe,
and Charles Bulfinch (SOURCE), must have drew upon my plan of St. Peter s for inspiration. I am not
sure if they knew this or not, but I also used classical columns on another masterpiece of mine that is
known as the Tempietto at San Pietro in Montorio (SOURCE). Unlike at St. Peter s, at the Tempietto I
used the Doric order of columns (SOURCE). I find both orders to be great outlets of my artistic
abilities, and both pleasing to the eye. Besides the columns, another feature of the Capitol Building
that I have marvelous is the beautiful, gigantic, dome in the center. I used a dome structure on both of
my famous works that I mentioned before, namely my plan for St. Peters, and the Tempietto at San
Pietro in Montorio (SOURCE). I would say, however, that the dome on the Capitol is much larger
(SOURCE)! Especially compared to that of my Tempietto. It must have taken master craftsmen many
years to complete such a feat in architecture and engineering (SOURCE). While I do find the dome to
be a great work, I think it may be a little too different from the great domes of my work. Compared to

Did Enlightenment historiography neglect history?
Arthur Marwick in his Fundamentals of History suggests that when studying history it is important
that there is a distinction made between History and The Past, the former referring to the knowledge
produced by historians about the past together with the teaching of that knowledge. Marwick states
that the latter is just everything that actually happened, whether known, or written, about by historians
or not . Enlightenment historiography is particularly interesting because it shifted the way that
historians look at and study history, specifically how society started to prioritise human rationality
over faith. Previously, traditional Christian historians would account every major event or ... Show

This way of studying the enlightenment was criticised initially because it is hard to understand the
progress of enlightenment without any social or geographical context of how the path was paved for
great thinkers of the eighteenth century. Darnton suggested that perhaps new methodologies, that
would position the enlightenment into different geographical and economic perspectives as well as
consider how it was transmitted through media in eighteenth century France, needed to be developed
and practiced. This suggests that perhaps the way that historians such as Peter Gay studied the
enlightenment was far too simplistic and placed more importance on the writings of the great thinkers
than on the actual progress of the enlightenment during that time period. Although this shows that
some enlightenment historians ignored the social, geographical and economic context of the
enlightenment, it does not necessarily mean that they ignored History. This essay agrees with Marwick
in the sense that History should be defined as the bodies of knowledge produced about history and
should not be confused with the past. These enlightenment historians focused specifically on History
by looking at just the writings of philosophes such as Voltaire and Kant, and rather Neglected The Past
by not looking at social perspectives and
