African American with stage IV colon cancer
African Americans carry an uneven share of the cancer load in the United States, having the highest
death rate and shortest survival of any racial or ethnic group for most cancers. In this article, I will
provide updated data for African Americans on cancer rate, death, survival, and cancer screening. I
also estimate the total number of deaths prevented among African Americans as a result of the decline
in cancer death rates since the early 1990s.
Sorry to say, some colon cancers might be present without any signs or symptoms. For this reason, it
is very important to have regular colon screenings or (examinations) to detect these problems early.
The best screening evaluation is a colonoscopy. On the other hand, most colon cancers are connected
with signs or symptoms. One of the early signs of colon cancer is bleeding. Most of the time , tumors
often bleed only small amounts, off and on, so that evidence of the blood is found only during
chemical testing of the stool, which is called a fecal occult blood test. Other signs and symptoms
include:
Change in bowel habits like Constipation, diarrhea, if you workout sometimes you may think it
because you have did strenuous exercise

Biohazard Island
Biohazard Island is a not very well known facility. It was an island southeast of New York. The island
itself is about 840 acres. The facility also known as Plum Island Animal Disease Center or the PIADC,
had a goal of protecting livestock from animal diseases. During the Cold War a secret biological
weapons program that was targeted livestock was conducted at the facility. Although over the years it
has declined, but on July 13th of 2008 a strange creature washed up on the shores of Montauk. The
creature was described as being part dog, raccoon, and even a sea turtle. No one really knew what this
thing was. Most thought it was just a bloated raccoon and some claimed it was a extraterrestrial. But
the creature later named the Montauk Monster was relatively the size of a large sea turtle so it could

Rising Tuition Prices Essay
Rising Tuition Prices The skyrocketing price of college tuition is causing a tremendous concern over
whether higher education will be a viable financial concept to the average citizen over the next
decades. Some families have opted to explore different means of obtaining a higher education for their
children as these costs escalate. There is overwhelming evidence that colleges need to restructure the
way they are run because tuition prices are increasing at a rapid rate causing changes in the way
students fund their education and in the way the government provides educational subsidies.
Rep. Dick Zimmer predicts that at the current rate of rising college costs, by the year 2000 the average
price tag for attending a four year public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Reiland, 59) Unfortunately this still is quite a high rate of increase compared to the inflation rate
throughout the economy.
Almost every college insists that they are doing everything possible to slow down the rate of increase.
For most colleges, the rising costs seem so unstoppable that just keeping them down slightly over the
rate of inflation is considered an achievement in itself. Only a few institutions have actually been
successful in reducing their tuition, most notably Ohio s Muskingum College. (Elfin, 90)
The cause of the large tuition prices is elusive. Colleges are unwilling to discuss where much of this
tax free revenue is spent. (Lemann, 45) Colleges usually place the blame of the increases on
congressional budget cutters, stingy state legislatures, government regulators and parents who demand
more costly student health and recreational services. Seldom spoken of are declining teaching loads,
nonproductive research, growing financial aid programs, bloated administrative hierarchies, celebrity
salaries for professorial stars, and inflated course offerings. (Elfin, 91) Administrators fail to see a
limit on available capital, and seem to believe the cost can just be continually handed down to students
without any consequences.
Part of the problem might be a surge of income

There are scores of saccharine quotes about children being our hearts living outside of our body or our
hearts carrying a part of our progenies with us wherever we go. That said, I m not waxing poetic when
I tell you that we literally carry our children in our hearts, and in our lungs, liver and kidneys. Even

Case Study #4:
Public Budgeting Death of a Spy Satellite Program
Wideline Servius
Columbus State University
1) Why does Irene Rubin at the outset argue that public budgets are not merely technical managerial
documents; they are also intrinsically and irreducibly political ? Do you agree or disagree based on
your reading of the case County Prison Overtime Irene Rubin view that public budgets are not merely
technical managerial documents and that they are also intrinsically and irreducibly political is because
public budgets reflect the choice of government. As a general rule of thumb, government chooses to
go along with programs that fit their own political agenda. Programs should reflect a general
consensus about what kind or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two terms go hand in hand. In the Death of Spy Satellite Program , the example illustrated was
that government officials didn t really account that Boeing didn t have the expertise to follow through
with the program. Instead, they just accepted the fact Boeing would meet the cost cap and the
timeline. The text stated that officials didn t have a choice but to go with Boeing because its plan was
more executable.
4) Who are the major participants that Rubin believes are most involved in the public budgetary
processes? What are they trying to achieve? Who was involved in the Death of Satellite Spy Program
case and what were the positions they took as well as the strategies they used to achieve their goals?
The major participants that Rubin believes are most involved in the public budgetary processes are the
bureau chiefs, the executive budget officers, and chief executives, and the legislators. Although some
might believe that bureaucrats are always trying to expand their agencies, researches have proved that
is not always the case. Instead, they try to validate their position by doing a good job for the people.
The Executive Budget Offices tries to eliminate waste by scrutinizing agencies programs. Its main

The Beatles And Their Music
An entire generation in Cold War Soviet Russia was born to a nuclear bomb, raised under the constant
threat of war, and seemed doomed to suffocate by their own government, until they were emancipated
by a life force that was as formidable as unlikely a savior. This paper discusses the role of the Beatles
and their music in the cultural, political and social revolutions that took place Cold War Russia.
Drawing upon various conversations and anecdotes that Leslie Woodhead discusses in his 2013 book
How The Beatles Rocked the Kremlin , this paper attempts to also understand how contemporary
Russia has evolved to carry with herself the revolutionary spirit of the Beatles.
As reiterated upon by various interviewees in different capacities, it is important that one must preface
any discussion of the Beatles in the Soviet Union with a historical context of the country in the 1960s.
It is indeed impossible to guess whether the Beatles would have had the impact they made on another
historical generation, but the Soviet population in the mid sixties certainly lived in a time that was
fertile ground for the arrival of the Beatles (Woodhead, 23). In those early years of the Cold War,
Nikita Khrushchev and his efforts in spearheading Russia in the international space race, along with
his thawing of political, economic and cultural restrictions were a source of a nationwide zeal and
pride. Nevertheless, the rapid events leading to his ousting in 1965, and the hastily implemented

Blood Disorders
Blood is one of the most essential elements within the body. Blood is made up of plasma, red blood
cells, and platelets. Blood is vital to the body functioning correctly, and it is important to understand
that there are many types of blood disorders that can cause people to get sick. While there are many
different types of blood disorders out there, this paper is going to cover three which are, anemia, sickle
cell, and thrombocytopenia. Also, a review of plasma, red blood cells, and platelets to give a better

He may have the sickle cell trait.
Sickle cell anemia is a genetically transmitted disorder marked by episodes of painful crisis, severe
hemolytic anemia, and increased susceptibility to infections. This disorder usually affects African
American (Zelman, Tompary, Raymond, Holdaway, amp; Mulvihill, 2010) Since this disorder is
inherited and affects African American this puts Davon at a higher risk. Sickle cell anemia can be
diagnosed by having a genetic testing and blood test. Some symptoms of this disorder are pain crisis,
fatigue, splenic sequestration, bacterial infections, shortness of breath, and eye damages. Some
treatments for sickle cell anemia are supportive therapy during the crisis, blood transfusions, and
prevention of sickle cell crisis. Since this is an inherited disorder, there is no prevention. This blood
disorder is usually diagnosed in childhood and persists throughout a person s life ( Mayo Clinic ,
2015).
The last scenario and blood disorder is Spencer, who over the past several weeks is having more
bruises, or ecchymosis, all over his body. After coughing this morning, Spencer noticed tiny red marks
all around his eyes. Spencer is showing signs of thrombocytopenia. Thrombocytopenia is a condition
of the blood in which the blood doesn t clot properly because there are not enough platelets. This
condition can be caused by many different things such as decreased platelet production, increased

An Example of a Graduation Speech
Ladies and gentlemen, friends and families, teachers and graduates of 2014, good evening,
Over 5000 days of wondering wondering if we would ever make it to this day. Tonight marks the
culmination of this long journey we are the graduating class of 2014.
Graduation is one of those awkward times in our lives when we are torn between letting go of our safe
haven where we have many a cherished memory and anticipating a new path where the destination is
but a speck of hope. Should we look back on what were the greatest twelve years of our lives times
filled with joy from the day we picked out our first schoolbags until the day we emptied our lockers
for the last time? Or should we focus on the next stage in this journey called LIFE? We have been
impatiently waiting for this day, and now, all we want to do is hit pause, rewind, and play. We want to
slow it down and enjoy the last fleeting moments, but we can t stop the clock from ticking it s time to
let go and fly!
This long journey that began twelve years ago was a blank book, and we were all eager to fill the
pages. We will always look back on the days we spent from preschool to high school those days long
ago, the world seemed so innocent; however, soon enough, we became aware that real life is different,
and we began to face some of the many experiences of adulthood. As the years passed, we learned not
to allow external circumstances to define us. That s right; our book was being written on our own
terms.
Every year,

Women Roles In The Progressive Era
Women s Active Role Throughout the Gilded Age and Progressive Era, gender roles began to change
as women became active participants in American society. For instance, women became active in
expressing their views against alcohol and pushed for the prohibition and temperance. Organizations
such as The Women s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU), argued that alcohol led to societal
problems. Male and female reformers banned together to argue that alcohol was immoral and causing
a negative impact on women. Women, if married, would experience an abusive, violent drunk husband
who neglected his family and gambled his money away. Thus, the evils of alcohol became part of the
progressive agenda that eventually led to the passage of the 18th amendment. Along with prohibition,
women also took active roles in acquiring suffrage. In The Politics of Good Government, Gayle
Gullett argued that in the California Women s Movement built a nonpartisan broad suffrage umbrella
that sought to enhance their special interests. Middle class women assured their male allies that
women s enfranchisement was essential to progressivism. Furthermore, middle and working class
women argued that suffrage would not only protect working women but women in general. Working
class men and women also united to seek reform. Thus, through these heterogeneous groups, the
California Women s Movement built a unified coalition that led to women s suffrage in 1911. [46] As
America entered the First Great War, the

Americas Colonization
The seeking of power and new lands started all the way back to centuries ago. It was the time were
Empires colonized the Americas establishing their own sets of rules that the Native Americans in the
lands must followed. This Empires cause an enormous effect on this people because their lives
changed completely, in a way that they had to adapt to a new way of living. However, not all Empires
had the same success on the colonization or even the same process of colonizing these new lands.
Spanish and Portuguese established their Empires in the Americas, creating all new political structure,
religious believed, economical changes and social interactions.
Let s begin with explaining the foundation of every nation, this is obvious; politics. Without the latter
content people will have a disorganized, uncivilized, unstructured and violent society. Spain was
considered to be monarchy, since it was ruled by a queen and king during the sixteen and seventeen
centuries. It got so much power and territory that it was considered the largest Empire in history. Their
politics were extremely strict and firm control over their empire (Esler, 2004). It consisted of a

Learning To Die
Learning To Die
Haruki Murakami once said, death is not the opposite of life, but a part of it. In Donald Barthelme s
short story The School, the students are exposed to death all around them from a very young age. The
death pandemic begins very small, with some trees, and then gradually increases: first to small
animals, then a puppy, and then it moves on to humans. By the end of the story, the children have
experienced so much death in their everyday lives that their knowledge of the world is more
philosophically advanced than even that of their teacher.
Throughout the story, Barthelme chooses to use the word children to describe the students in the
school. This signifies to the reader that this class is very young. The education these ... Show more

the students; he can t help but expect death to closely follow wherever life is. The children, despite
experiencing so much loss in their lives, are still excited about new life. At the end of the story, after
so much death has already occurred, a new gerbil comes to the classroom, and the children cheered
wildly (2). This shows that the teacher s discouragement of new life hasn t impacted the students
enthusiasm for it. The students in this scenario have learned to hope for life where their teacher

The role of motherhood is iconic; with expectations of nurturance and altruistic acts of love which are
difficult to live up to. Charged with giving selflessly and expected to love to the point of abandoning

having an intense, all encompassing relationship with their offspring to gradually letting go and
encouraging their child s independent development. While error is expected and surmountable;
maternal abandonment and rejection result in dire consequences for children to overcome. In the

During her illness and death, Michael takes on a nurturing role; caring for her and seeing to it that she
is respectfully buried.
Perhaps it was out of an unmet desire for his absent mother, or because he had been secluded, from all
but her presence so early in life, which led to Michael K s having developed an enmeshed relationship
with his mother. Unfortunately, this inhibits his ability to interact with the world on his own and he
appears incapable of communicating the intensity of their bond or to express an emotional response
outside of this relationship. His task is to learn how to separate from his mother and develop into a
separate individual.
Due to his life experiences, Michael is perplexed when his friend says: People must help each other,
that s what I believe (Coetzee 48). After thinking about if he has beliefs or might help people, he
concludes: Do I believe in helping people? . . . Perhaps I am the stony ground, he thought (Coetzee

sadness has cast its shadow upon the land (Angelou). During this time, Princess Diana (Heir of British

Starting off with a metaphor the reader is able to recognize the princess s death on a large scale. As
one knows this and is able to understand the widespread effect of the princess s death. One can come
to the conclusion that the feelings of the world can help explain sadness that comes with pain.
Similarly, pain is also expressed in Touched by an Angel but has a solution Yet if we are bold, love
strikes away the chains of fear from our souls (Angelou). This line proves that pain comes before good
things. The use of personification implies that boldness is needed for a hope in a better outcome.
When reaching a state of hope or in this case love acting as hope, one can be set free. Having broken
chains means that there is no more future of bad experiences that were in the past. Taking out the

How Did Beethoven Change Music
Ludwig Van Beethoven, was the composer who changed music more than any other composer, the
sound of music and what the other composers that were to come after him thought. He wrote nine
symphonies, five piano concertos, an opera and many pieces of chamber music that jolted music right
out of itself. (Landon) Beethoven changed music by creating a new era called Romanticism,
influencing the other composers and changing the old methods by adding a special twist.
The first way that Beethoven changed music was by creating romanticism. Ludwig is viewed as the
most transitional figure between the eras of classical and romanticism of musical history. Even though
his first period was more conventional he grew tired of this and made his second time period ... Show

He took the old methods and twisted to match his style of thinking. As mentioned before, Ludwig used
a D major melody and a B minor harmony all at once. (Discuss) He then called this juxtaposed chords,
which were opposing the old idea where they generally did not mix minor and major chords. If he
changed the way chords were played, then obviously he changed music. Ludwig also influenced
Romantic composers by changing the ideas of programmatic writing. (Discuss) He changed the idea
of writing music from composing just to compose into actually creating a picture in the listeners mind.
Beethoven s Symphony Number Six was the first programmatic symphony where the music was
meant to paint a picture, compared to simply being a series of sounds. (Guthrie) The earlier works of
his period brought the Classical forms to the highest expressive point, expanded the formal, structural
and harmonic terms of his teachers Mozart and Haydn. (Guthrie) While he was influenced by his
teachers, he took their old ways and transformed them into a new version of thinking to help others
actually express themselves through the power of music. He changed the old methods into a new and
improved version. He held onto the old culture without wearing it

The Department Of The Fire District
The majority of the fire department in the United States are public agencies that their budget money
primarily from taxation. In Arizona, fire departments depend on the taxation of the secondary assessed
value of property. The health of the economy influences the amount of revenue generated through
taxation, where the rise and fall of property values directly correlate to the fluctuation of tax revenue
collected for fire department budgets. The Golder Ranch Fire District (GRFD) is a public department
that is a state agency because GRFD is a taxation district that provides service to an annexed
jurisdiction instead of directly to a city or town. Arizona also has Rural/Metro (R/M), a private fire

There are operation decisions made by the chiefs that directly impact the workforce. The OPFFA
works with the administrators to ensure the decisions are fair and in the best interest of the operation
and not for disciplinary reasons without appropriate documentation. The most recent operational
decision was to rotate all personnel from their current stations and or shifts. The OPFFA worked with
the administrators to compromise on the execution of this process. Instead of all members being
placed by the Chiefs, only the officers were placed, the remainder of the workforce was able to choose
stations and shifts based on seniority requests (N. Latini, personal communication, January 17, 2017).
Before contract negotiations, the OPFFA took a survey to determine the priority of negotiable items
were to the membership. Not surprising, wages and 401k matches were at the top of the list. The
OPFFA then surveyed surrounding departments to determine equal wages for each department
position and used this information to negotiate for significant pay increases for EMT firefighter and
paramedic firefighters (N. Latini, personal communication, January 17, 2017). The most recent
contract negotiations that occurred last year were different in the fact that Envision Care has a contract
negotiation specialist that will only negotiate items guaranteed by law. An entirely new collective

How Does Censorship Affect The World
Children are easily influenced and are risked to being exposed to nudity, violence and coarse
language. Without censorship children would be exposed to things such as the ones listed above. In
the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, it talks about how mass censorship affects the world. In the
book Fahrenheit 451 censorship affected the world in a bad way such as taking citizens freedom to
think for themselves away. In the book Fahrenheit 451 it is shown how censorship is bad but
censorship can also affect the world in a positive way. In order to obtain order in America, citizens
need censorship. Censorship guards children´s minds, protects citizen´s from doing harm to
individuals and keeps proper morals intact.

Why Is It Important To Take Naps
1. I would tell the parents to tell the child why a nap is important for him. I would tell him that when
he takes naps he will have more energy to play and run around. Another thing they could do it go in
and read a story to him to help him fall asleep. Another good tip is to put on nap time music, that
always helps the children at the daycare fall asleep faster. The last thing I would suggest is to rock
your child yo sleep. Not in a ricking chair or anything, but to sit by their bed and gently rock their
body back and forth or rub the child s back. This is what we do at the daycare to get all the children
asleep. 2. I hated taking naps. My stepmom had us take naps until we were pretty old, from what I can
remember. In the end we probably

The Quiet Kids Research Paper
Introverts in School: The Quiet Kids Every person is different, and each of us has different
personalities. An actor, for example, generally feels alive when they are preforming in front of people,
while a computer programer perhaps feels more comfortable when working in solitude. Some teachers
have a natural empathy that allows them to care for their students, and an author s imagination allows
them to weave together stories that transport people to new worlds. Psychologists have been studying
these differences in personality for centuries and have divided personality into five different traits.
These traits are known as the Big Five. The Big Five personality traits included in the theory are:
extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness, and neuroticism (Rentfrow np). In other
words, these traits describe your level of sociability and enthusiasm, your level of friendliness and
kindness, your level of organization and work ethic, your level of creativity and curiosity, and your
level of calmness and tranquility (Rentfrow np). By using these terms, the aforementioned actor would
be high in extroversion; however, the opposite would be true for the computer programer. The teachers
described would rank high in agreeableness, while authors would rank high in openness.

Due to producing more dopamine, a chemical released in the brain that provides the motivation to
seek external rewards, extroverts tend to gain more energy when they are surrounded by external
stimuli (Granneman np). Introverts, however, feel overstimulated in that same situation. They have to
recharge their energy away from other people; most people assume this to be due to shyness and
unsociableness, which isn t the case. Introverts often enjoy being around others in moderation. Only
when they become overwhelmed with stimuli do they retreat into

The, The Neighbor Behind Us Practices Scream Therapy
The neighbor behind us practices scream therapy in his shower almost every morning. I thought it was
weird; he was only 17 and scream therapy is usually when you reenact a particularly disturbing past
experience occurring early in life. Presumably, I figured he might have been six or seven when this
horrendous event happened, but by the sound of it, this, this was much bigger than dropped cookies
and lost dinosaurs. These screams; they sound as if he has still been living in his own misery. Louis
did not come to school on Monday, or Tuesday for that matter. I didn t even hear his screams on those
two mornings; I figured he was done with it, but just my luck. On Wednesday, the 8th, Louis practiced
his therapy right on schedule, 7:02 A.M. Being the person I am, I knew it wasn t a coincidence. I
needed answers, but it would be weird to just ask him right? I started pacing and strategizing ways for
the topic to come up. Would I actually have to become friends with him? Would he actually have to
become friends with me? Louis missed French that morning. He never missed French. It was his
favorite subject; I mean, why wouldn t it be? He s from France; the dudes got the highest grade in the
class. He never missed a moment to correct our mistakes, he was kind of a social pariah. Half of the
time nobody could even understand what he was saying, he always mumbled French stuff under his
breath. I did not see him in math either. I wonder why he was missing all of his favorite

Moving In A New Country Analysis
Almost a decade has passed and yet, the daunting feeling of stepping off the plane, into the unknown
remained. Thoughts rushed through my naïve mind, as the brisk breeze brushed my face.Where am I?
Why am I here? Racing through the airport, I was overwhelmed as people paced past me, my mind
filled with curiosity and my heart beating louder than a drum. Everything was new, the silence, the
purity, the beauty. This new country seemed unrealistic to me, it felt like I was in a dream as I was
introduced tonew things. Aspects I couldn t understand as a little girl were all thrown at me in an
instant, skin colours that I didn t think existed, a new culture, and a new language which sounded like

Hopelessly lost at first, my journey began to feel like an exciting new adventure. Settling in a new
country has many negative effectsas one adapts to the new culture, people and starting a life from step
one.Drastic cultural differences became an obstacle for my parents as it was difficult to adapt to this
society with new morals, roots, and lifestyle. Immigrants must make the decision if they want to blend
in and follow the foreign culture or continue to stick to their own culture. Making a decision was not
an option in my family, it was clear that it s our duty to carry on our culture and traditions regardless
of where we end up around the world. However, it s important to find a balance between staying true
to one s roots and being able toevolve with the new environment and assimilate to the society,
otherwise, one may become isolated.I remember observing my mom, quietly sufferingin loneliness as
she left everyone she knew, her family and friends, to a country where she had no one. However, with
time, she found ways to stay in touch with her friends and family and made new friends in Canada as
well. One of the most significant outcomes that moving countries has on immigrants, including myself,
is language barriers as it has remained to be a prevalent challenge for many immigrants, particularly
during the initial stages of settlement. A study conducted by the Canadian government showed that
32% of job seekers experienced language barriers as an issue (Statistics Canada, 2005). I remember
going to school for the first time in Canada and being extremely terrified to interact with other people
who spoke a language I hardly knew. I had forgotten my lunch and wasn t able to communicate this to
anyone so I busted into tears as I struggled to convey such a simple message. Moving countries can be

Why College Athletes Should Get Paid And Why They Shouldn t
November 18, 2014
Ebeling 2
Intro:
How much harder would athletes work if they were paid for their performance on the field, track, or
court? College athletes are put to the test each and everyday, they risk their health to entertain millions
day in and day out. College athletes deserve part of the money due to the revenue they bring in for
their schools and for the NCAA, they deserve the money because they do not have time to get a job
because they are practicing and training at least 40 hours a week, they should also get paid because
they are used as marketing models for the ncaa and for their universities. College athletes also should
not get paid because they are already getting paid in scholarship money. College athletes deserve to
get paid because they are putting their bodies on the line just so the NCAA and their sponsors can
make money.
Lit Review:
Throughout my paper I will demonstrate many different ideas on whether college athletes should get
paid why they should not. I will talk about the things paying the athletes will do for the NCAA, how it
is unfair for athletes to be used and not get anything out of those moments, and they generate revenue
for the NCAA just on certain players presence. I will also talk about why college athletes should not
get paid. They

The Development Of Artificial Intelligence In Frankenstein...
The development of artificial intelligence (AI) has progressed through today s modern society and is
becoming more prevalent. AI is a manmade program with processes which retrieve information to
adjust the program to better fit the user. Historically, American society s image of AI has developed
using literary works and the film industry in order for most people to get an exaggerated explanation
of AI. For example, in Mary Shelly s Frankenstein, Doctor Victor Frankenstein creates a monster that
becomes increasingly capable of feelings and develops by learning from others. The novel itself has
been interpreted multiple times, yet this monster is still considered as AI due to the monster learning
information to become a more humanlike being. Mary Shelly s novel is one literary piece that has
slowly developed the image of AI in society. Today, technology is becoming more advanced as
independent companies are creating and developing their new, unique ideas. Automobile companies,
such as The Ford Motor Company, are currently in the process of creating self driving vehicles,
implementing AI into cars. These cars are becoming more developed and advertised within American
communities, and the cars are the topic of debate within the scientific and ethical based philosophical
communities. As society continues to develop AI, humans are becoming more obsolete. When people
become more obsolete, they become unable to contribute to society due to the lack of activity. This is
an issue that

Civil Liberties And Civil Rights
Throughout history, society has pushed the envelope with civil liberties and civil rights by tackling
Supreme Court decisions. The attempts to manipulate civil rights and civil liberties occurred without a
clear understanding of neither of the two. While civil rights and civil liberties regulate collective
action, they differ by providing freedoms from the government and by providing freedoms to act; their
shift in history has been denoted by racial and gender discrimination, nationalization, and rights of the
accused. Civil liberties, as denoted in the Bill of Rights, had limited the government s actions by
providing freedoms from the government. Because the government could not take away the people s
rights, the Bill of Rights listed thou shalt nots, which limit[ed] its [the government s] jurisdiction
(Lowi pg. 107). A famous substantive limitation, or a restriction against what Congress could do, was,
and is, the establishment clause, or the separation between Church and State. As the first component of
the First Amendment, the establishment clause impedes the government s ability from establishing a
national Church; consequently, due to religious persecution in England in the 1700 s, the
establishment clause serves to protect the citizens from the possible tyranny of religion by permitting
the accommodation of all religions through assistance and by not allowing the government to show no
favoritism . Therefore, the United States refers to God on U.S. currency

The Development Of The Boulder Parks And Recreation...
In the beginning, the Boulder Valley was home to the Southern Arapaho tribe of Native American.
Then gold seekers searching for their fortunes arrived around 1858 and soon a settlement became a
city in 1871. The town was based on the concept of Chautauqua which was a movement that focused
on adult education and enlightenment. As the city continued to grow and prosper a desire to preserve
Boulder s nature beauty increased and the Boulder Parks and Recreation Department (BPRD) was
created in 1961. By looking at Boulder s mission statement, the structure of its department, and the

to the Boulder citizens as the open spaces are. She also has a great appreciation for the sustainability
of parks and she is equally concerned with finding just the right balance between the bigger public
events such as the Ironman competitions and the various ways that the local community uses the parks

Patient encounters in cardiology practicum afforded extended latitude to embrace nursing

opportunity to view health care from the dichotomous spectrum of life and death, with understanding
that not only should one be afforded a quality life, but also a quality and dignified death. An issue of
contention for this clinician has always been the unilateral focus of medical care without attention to

Essay on Explaining Political Philosophy
Explaining Political Philosophy
Political philosophy, or political theory, as it is also known, is about human condition, or, what
humans are like. There are roughly four main kinds of political philosophy around today
Libertarianism, Socialism, Liberalism and Communitarianism. Political theory is an attempt to
understand people, what we are like as individuals, what society and the state are like, and how we as
humans, the state and society all interact with one and other.
A social contract theory is the method of justifying political principles or arrangements by appeal to

To run the state a very high level of technical knowledge would be required, as only the brightest
people should be in charge of it and run it.
Hobbes, a seventeenth century English philosopher, is generally regarded as the first modern political
philosopher; he is famous for his early and elaborate development of what has come to be known as
social contract theory . He is infamous for having used the social contract method to arrive at the
astonishing conclusion that we ought to submit to the authority of an absolute, undivided and
unlimited, sovereign power. He conceived of politics as science. In his theory of ballistics (guns and
missiles) objects moved at random, and were likely to collide with one and other. Hobbes viewed
society in much the same way; we all as individuals are more or less equal, we seek pleasure and
avoid pain. This will undoubtedly lead to competition between individuals. Because of this Hobbes
characterizes the state of nature as a state of war, where the life of the individual according to him
would be solitary, poore, nasty, brutish and short . This Hobbesian state of nature is so horrible that
individuals would want to avoid it at all costs. We therefore need a state that has laws that will protect
us from each other; Hobbes calls this the absolutist state . To avoid the horrible prospect

The type of data itself is nominal not numerical. The income of both males and females is not as
accurate as we would like, because it has been collected within large income ranges, for example $0 to
$25,000. Therefore to use the data, midpoints must be found, doing this has caused the data to become
very general and does not show specifics on income levels per person. The incomes are shown on the
graph as midpoints which have a large range within them. This further shows that the information is
too general for many business applications and decision making. The graph has narrowed down the
five income midpoints of interest to three. These three income midpoints were $12,500 $37,500
$62,500. However exactly what income levels within these ranges have not been determined. This
means that the information is vague. The information would be more useful if specific income levels
and have tried frequencies per income were investigated. The graph would be more useful if it showed
actual income levels and numbers of people within that income level who had tried the product. It
only tells us the midpoint which has a large range and therefore, the information is quite general. This
information would be fine if we wanted to target general income groups but it would be insufficient if
we wanted to determine specific income levels who have tried the product, as we do not know what

Kangxi vs. Qianlong
Kangxi and Qianlong were two of the most outstanding emperors of the Qing Dynasty. During years
from Kangxi to Qianlong, land was expanded, economic was developed rapidly, and society was

Although Kangxi and Qianlong both ruled the Qing Dynasty for more than sixty years and had similar

  • 2. African American With Stage Iv Colon Cancer African American with stage IV colon cancer Jasper folks Kaplan University HS305: Research Methods for Health Sciences Prof: B. Marie Brady Whitcanac 12/2/2014 African American with stage IV colon cancer African Americans carry an uneven share of the cancer load in the United States, having the highest death rate and shortest survival of any racial or ethnic group for most cancers. In this article, I will provide updated data for African Americans on cancer rate, death, survival, and cancer screening. I also estimate the total number of deaths prevented among African Americans as a result of the decline in cancer death rates since the early 1990s. Sorry to say, some colon cancers might be present without any signs or symptoms. For this reason, it is very important to have regular colon screenings or (examinations) to detect these problems early. The best screening evaluation is a colonoscopy. On the other hand, most colon cancers are connected with signs or symptoms. One of the early signs of colon cancer is bleeding. Most of the time , tumors often bleed only small amounts, off and on, so that evidence of the blood is found only during chemical testing of the stool, which is called a fecal occult blood test. Other signs and symptoms include: Change in bowel habits like Constipation, diarrhea, if you workout sometimes you may think it because you have did strenuous exercise ... The facility also known as Plum Island Animal Disease Center or the PIADC, had a goal of protecting livestock from animal diseases. During the Cold War a secret biological weapons program that was targeted livestock was conducted at the facility. Although over the years it has declined, but on July 13th of 2008 a strange creature washed up on the shores of Montauk. The creature was described as being part dog, raccoon, and even a sea turtle. No one really knew what this thing was. Most thought it was just a bloated raccoon and some claimed it was a extraterrestrial. • 4. Rising Tuition Prices Essay Rising Tuition Prices The skyrocketing price of college tuition is causing a tremendous concern over whether higher education will be a viable financial concept to the average citizen over the next decades. Some families have opted to explore different means of obtaining a higher education for their children as these costs escalate. There is overwhelming evidence that colleges need to restructure the way they are run because tuition prices are increasing at a rapid rate causing changes in the way students fund their education and in the way the government provides educational subsidies. Rep. Dick Zimmer predicts that at the current rate of rising college costs, by the year 2000 the average price tag for attending a four year public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Reiland, 59) Unfortunately this still is quite a high rate of increase compared to the inflation rate throughout the economy. Almost every college insists that they are doing everything possible to slow down the rate of increase. For most colleges, the rising costs seem so unstoppable that just keeping them down slightly over the rate of inflation is considered an achievement in itself. Only a few institutions have actually been successful in reducing their tuition, most notably Ohio s Muskingum College. (Elfin, 90) The cause of the large tuition prices is elusive. Colleges are unwilling to discuss where much of this tax free revenue is spent. (Lemann, 45) Colleges usually place the blame of the increases on congressional budget cutters, stingy state legislatures, government regulators and parents who demand more costly student health and recreational services. Seldom spoken of are declining teaching loads, nonproductive research, growing financial aid programs, bloated administrative hierarchies, celebrity salaries for professorial stars, and inflated course offerings. (Elfin, 91) Administrators fail to see a limit on available capital, and seem to believe the cost can just be continually handed down to students without any consequences. Part of the problem might be a surge of income ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Beatles And Their Music An entire generation in Cold War Soviet Russia was born to a nuclear bomb, raised under the constant threat of war, and seemed doomed to suffocate by their own government, until they were emancipated by a life force that was as formidable as unlikely a savior. This paper discusses the role of the Beatles and their music in the cultural, political and social revolutions that took place Cold War Russia. Drawing upon various conversations and anecdotes that Leslie Woodhead discusses in his 2013 book How The Beatles Rocked the Kremlin , this paper attempts to also understand how contemporary Russia has evolved to carry with herself the revolutionary spirit of the Beatles. As reiterated upon by various interviewees in different capacities, it is important that one must preface any discussion of the Beatles in the Soviet Union with a historical context of the country in the 1960s. It is indeed impossible to guess whether the Beatles would have had the impact they made on another historical generation, but the Soviet population in the mid sixties certainly lived in a time that was fertile ground for the arrival of the Beatles (Woodhead, 23). In those early years of the Cold War, Nikita Khrushchev and his efforts in spearheading Russia in the international space race, along with his thawing of political, economic and cultural restrictions were a source of a nationwide zeal and pride. • 10. An Example of a Graduation Speech Ladies and gentlemen, friends and families, teachers and graduates of 2014, good evening, Over 5000 days of wondering wondering if we would ever make it to this day. Tonight marks the culmination of this long journey we are the graduating class of 2014. Graduation is one of those awkward times in our lives when we are torn between letting go of our safe haven where we have many a cherished memory and anticipating a new path where the destination is but a speck of hope. Should we look back on what were the greatest twelve years of our lives times filled with joy from the day we picked out our first schoolbags until the day we emptied our lockers for the last time? Or should we focus on the next stage in this journey called LIFE? We have been impatiently waiting for this day, and now, all we want to do is hit pause, rewind, and play. We want to slow it down and enjoy the last fleeting moments, but we can t stop the clock from ticking it s time to let go and fly! This long journey that began twelve years ago was a blank book, and we were all eager to fill the pages. We will always look back on the days we spent from preschool to high school those days long ago, the world seemed so innocent; however, soon enough, we became aware that real life is different, and we began to face some of the many experiences of adulthood. As the years passed, we learned not to allow external circumstances to define us. That s right; our book was being written on our own terms. Every year, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Women Roles In The Progressive Era Women s Active Role Throughout the Gilded Age and Progressive Era, gender roles began to change as women became active participants in American society. For instance, women became active in expressing their views against alcohol and pushed for the prohibition and temperance. Organizations such as The Women s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU), argued that alcohol led to societal problems. Male and female reformers banned together to argue that alcohol was immoral and causing a negative impact on women. Women, if married, would experience an abusive, violent drunk husband who neglected his family and gambled his money away. Thus, the evils of alcohol became part of the progressive agenda that eventually led to the passage of the 18th amendment. Along with prohibition, women also took active roles in acquiring suffrage. In The Politics of Good Government, Gayle Gullett argued that in the California Women s Movement built a nonpartisan broad suffrage umbrella that sought to enhance their special interests. Middle class women assured their male allies that women s enfranchisement was essential to progressivism. Furthermore, middle and working class women argued that suffrage would not only protect working women but women in general. Working class men and women also united to seek reform. Thus, through these heterogeneous groups, the California Women s Movement built a unified coalition that led to women s suffrage in 1911. [46] As America entered the First Great War, the ... The novel itself has been interpreted multiple times, yet this monster is still considered as AI due to the monster learning information to become a more humanlike being. Mary Shelly s novel is one literary piece that has slowly developed the image of AI in society. Today, technology is becoming more advanced as independent companies are creating and developing their new, unique ideas. Automobile companies, such as The Ford Motor Company, are currently in the process of creating self driving vehicles, implementing AI into cars. These cars are becoming more developed and advertised within American communities, and the cars are the topic of debate within the scientific and ethical based philosophical communities. As society continues to develop AI, humans are becoming more obsolete. When people become more obsolete, they become unable to contribute to society due to the lack of activity. This is an issue that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Civil Liberties And Civil Rights Throughout history, society has pushed the envelope with civil liberties and civil rights by tackling Supreme Court decisions. The attempts to manipulate civil rights and civil liberties occurred without a clear understanding of neither of the two. While civil rights and civil liberties regulate collective action, they differ by providing freedoms from the government and by providing freedoms to act; their shift in history has been denoted by racial and gender discrimination, nationalization, and rights of the accused. Civil liberties, as denoted in the Bill of Rights, had limited the government s actions by providing freedoms from the government. Because the government could not take away the people s rights, the Bill of Rights listed thou shalt nots, which limit[ed] its [the government s] jurisdiction (Lowi pg. 107). A famous substantive limitation, or a restriction against what Congress could do, was, and is, the establishment clause, or the separation between Church and State. As the first component of the First Amendment, the establishment clause impedes the government s ability from establishing a national Church; consequently, due to religious persecution in England in the 1700 s, the establishment clause serves to protect the citizens from the possible tyranny of religion by permitting the accommodation of all religions through assistance and by not allowing the government to show no favoritism . Therefore, the United States refers to God on U.S. currency ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Development Of The Boulder Parks And Recreation... In the beginning, the Boulder Valley was home to the Southern Arapaho tribe of Native American. Then gold seekers searching for their fortunes arrived around 1858 and soon a settlement became a city in 1871. The town was based on the concept of Chautauqua which was a movement that focused on adult education and enlightenment. As the city continued to grow and prosper a desire to preserve Boulder s nature beauty increased and the Boulder Parks and Recreation Department (BPRD) was created in 1961. There are roughly four main kinds of political philosophy around today Libertarianism, Socialism, Liberalism and Communitarianism. Political theory is an attempt to understand people, what we are like as individuals, what society and the state are like, and how we as humans, the state and society all interact with one and other. To run the state a very high level of technical knowledge would be required, as only the brightest people should be in charge of it and run it. Hobbes, a seventeenth century English philosopher, is generally regarded as the first modern political philosopher; he is famous for his early and elaborate development of what has come to be known as social contract theory . He is infamous for having used the social contract method to arrive at the astonishing conclusion that we ought to submit to the authority of an absolute, undivided and unlimited, sovereign power. He conceived of politics as science. In his theory of ballistics (guns and missiles) objects moved at random, and were likely to collide with one and other. Hobbes viewed society in much the same way; we all as individuals are more or less equal, we seek pleasure and avoid pain. This will undoubtedly lead to competition between individuals. Because of this Hobbes characterizes the state of nature as a state of war, where the life of the individual according to him would be solitary, poore, nasty, brutish and short . This Hobbesian state of nature is so horrible that individuals would want to avoid it at all costs. We therefore need a state that has laws that will protect us from each other; Hobbes calls this the absolutist state . To avoid the horrible prospect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The pie charts show that a higher percentage of the male gender has tried the product in comparison to the female gender. Over 50% of both genders have tried the product. However, the fact that the percentage of males who tried the product is higher, suggests that gender does play a role in whether the people will try the product. Yet the role genders play is small, because the difference between the percentage of females who tried the product and males who tried the product is small at only 7%. The type of data itself is nominal not numerical. The income of both males and females is not as accurate as we would like, because it has been collected within large income ranges, for example $0 to $25,000. Therefore to use the data, midpoints must be found, doing this has caused the data to become very general and does not show specifics on income levels per person. The incomes are shown on the graph as midpoints which have a large range within them. This further shows that the information is too general for many business applications and decision making. The graph has narrowed down the five income midpoints of interest to three. These three income midpoints were $12,500 $37,500 $62,500. However exactly what income levels within these ranges have not been determined. This means that the information is vague. The information would be more useful if specific income levels and have tried frequencies per income were investigated. The graph would be more useful if it showed actual income levels and numbers of people within that income level who had tried the product. It only tells us the midpoint which has a large range and therefore, the information is quite general. This information would be fine if we wanted to target general income groups but it would be insufficient if we wanted to determine specific income levels who have tried the product, as we do not know what that income level ...
