Summary Of When Theodore Roosevelt Saved Football
Bruce Watson, author of When Theodore Roosevelt Saved Football, writes in chronological order
the events in which he describes how football was saved from the notorious brutality the sport was
once known for. The intervention and involvement by President Theodore Roosevelt would
become a key element in the restructuring of football. While Roosevelt had never taken an interest
to playing football during his time at Harvard, he had great respect for the game. Furthermore,
Roosevelt believed the roughness nature of the game was necessary. Because of this, injuries
ranging from severe to fatal became standard. However, as stated in the reading by Watson,
pressure on Roosevelt built rapidly to take action as death tolls among players continued

Margaret Sanger s Stand Up For Birth Control Rights
Imagine being a married woman in your 30 s during the beginning of the twentieth century. You
are worn out from giving birth multiple times and you are desperate to know of a way to prevent
yourself from having more children. This was the exact case for millions of women in the
twentieth century. Women had no rights as a person, nor did they have any rights to their own
bodies. In this era, the topics of sexuality, sex or birth controlwere all taboo subject matters and
never discussed between married or un married couples. It wasn t until the year of 1912 that a
woman by the name of Margaret Sangerstarted her crusade to promote the right for women to use
contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies. In this essay, I will discuss what inspired
Margaret Sanger to stand up for birth control rights. I will also explore the trials and legal issues
that Sanger came up against. Lastly, I will talk about the victory and the difference Sanger made
for women in the twentieth century. Margaret Louise Higgins (Sanger was her married name)
was born in the year of 1879 in Corning, New York. She was sixth of eleven children and was
born into an Irish American family. Margaret knew at a very young age that she wanted to make a
difference to empower women and to leave her mark on the world. Margaret was first inspired to
go into the nursing field after witnessing her own mother die at the young age of forty from
tuberculosis (TB). Margaret s mother endured eighteen pregnancies but, she

The Dissonances Of God And God In The Iliad
Some of the things that define an individual and its behavior are the culture and ideals in its
residence. These ideals and culture prove that each and everyone one of us is unique. For
example, an ideal Greek citizen is versatile, clever, a leader, an orator, adaptable and tricky while
an ideal Hebrew citizen is wise, obedient, studious, righteous, inadequate, and is able to converse
with God. In Hebrew literature, God is just and merciful and the humans are inadequate. On the
other hand, in Greek literature, gods are powerful and self centered, and the humans are the ones
responsible for the community. The difference between the two is apparent, and considering these
evident differences, we can also reason out that the way how the characters... Show more content on

She was looking for someone to redeem Ruth, since Ruth was a widow, just like her, and she
wanted Ruth to have a companion. When Naomi learned that the person Ruth had worked for
was Boaz, a kinsman, she thought that Boaz could be Ruth s redeemer that was why she sent
her daughter in law to Boaz. Daughter, is it not my duty to see you happily settled? And Boaz,
the man with whose work women you were, is he not our kinsman? Tonight he will be
winnowing the barley on the threshing floor. So wash and perfume yourself, put on your cloak
and go down to the threshing floor...take note where he lies, then go and turn back the covering
at his feet and lie down yourself. He will tell you what to do. (Verses 1 4, Chapter 3) When Boaz
saw Ruth, he asked her who she was and Ruth answered, I am your servant Ruth. Spread the skirt
of your cloak over your servant for you have the right of redemption over me. However, even if
Boaz already has the right of redemption over Ruth because of what Ruth did, he still cannot
acquire her because Ruth has a kinsman closer than Boaz himself. On that very day, Boaz decided
to settle everything regarding the redemption over the piece of land and Ruth with the man who
really has the right of redemption over them. Today you are witnesses that from Naomi I acquire

Romulus My Father + Related Texts
As human beings, a feeling of belonging is vital to the well being and self esteem of the individual,
but a lack of connection, or rejection can cause instability and other negative repercussions
Senses of belonging evolve from the connections made with entities such as people, places and
communities. The feeling of connection or relation with these entities is formed from the perception
of oneself and the perception of these entities as shaped by historical cultural, social, and personal
context.
Romulus my father as a text explores how relationships are affected by inside and outside
influences such as changes of context. It also shows how barriers to belonging such as Romulus s
self perception and how others perceived him hindered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
District 9 also shows a strong use of vibrant landscape, particularly obvious in the use of contrast
between the modern, clean, ordered landscape of the MNU buildings and the desolate, junkyard,
slum like ghetto of District 9 itself. This represents the psyche of the two groups, and the vastly
different cultures and contexts of the two races. It also shows the balance of power between them,
and it s evident when the MNU conducts a raid into District 9, where the clean uniforms and
vehicles of the MNU, a contrast to the ramshackle buildings and filthy, ragged clothing of the
prawns . This first glimpse into the Landscape of district 9 colours our perceptions of the prawns
and their contexts. After the failed attempt to integrate them into society due to a lack of
understanding of individual ownership, and their vastly different culture, the MNU corrals them
into District 9 and treat them the prawns with contempt. This is a clear indication of their
rejection of prawns into normal society, due to their differences in context, morals and values. As
the film progresses, the two groups are explored deeper, and the landscapes continue to influence
understanding of the two groups, for example, a short video is shown of the space ship the prawns
used to arrive at earth. Inside, the city sized landscape appears hostile and dangerous. This
influences the audience s initial feelings towards the prawns.

The World s Fair At The Columbian Exposition
Classical architecture, ferris wheels, 1500 pound chocolate bars. These new, unheard of attractions
at the Columbian Exposition attracted millions of unsuspecting, innocent guests to the preying
ground of the narcissistic Dr. H. H. Holmes. Chicago, Illinois, the host of the 1983 World s Fair,
was home to this sadistic serial killerwho attracted his prey using his education and occupation as a
means to gain trust from new, unsuspecting travelers from the 46 nations who participated in the
exposition. For three years, Chicago prepared for the exposition, building new architecture and
creating new inventions to celebrate the 400 year anniversary of Columbus s discovery of
America; the doctor had the same idea, and so he built his own Castle with strange, personal
gadgets attached. The presence of the Columbian Exposition in Chicago gave Dr. Holmes a means
to cunningly lure victims into his death chamber of a home. holmes background
Dr. Holmes was an infamous con artist and serial killer. Born as Herman Mudgett, Dr. Holmes,

while they were still alive, practicing and increasing his knowledge on how long a living animal

Tooth Discoloration Essay
Tooth discoloration is extrinsic or intrinsic i.e. may be restricted to the outer layer (enamel) or may
involve the deeper layer (dentin) of the tooth. Various factors like genes, poor oral hygiene,
smoking, consumption of food substances like tea, coffee, wine, cranberries, etc. and even aging
are the common culprits behind the tooth discoloration. The stains on the teethcan also stain your
life negatively. You may suffer from low self esteem and self rejection due to the failure in
securing a job or because of a broken relationship. People judge by appearance and tooth
discoloration gives an indication of negligence towards oral hygiene. Nevertheless, tooth whitening

The concentration of bleaching agents like hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide is high in the
solutions used in the chairside tooth whitening procedures.
The dentist uses tools like lasers, heat therapy or special lights to remove the deep and intrinsic
discoloration as it helps the solution to oxidize the ingrained stains.
Thus, you can get whiter teeth within one or two appointments. Also, the effects last longer when
compared to those obtained by other methods.
Tooth sensitivity usually occurs, especially in young people, during or after the treatment.
However, the dentist isolates the soft tissues during the procedure with rubber dam or protective gel
and uses special techniques to minimize the chance of development of tooth sensitivity.
The professional tooth whitening does not require a much active participation of the patient as
compared to the use of over the counter products or the at home whitening kits. Thus, you can sit
back, relax on the dental chair and listen to your favorite piece of music while your dentist gives

George Orwell s Use Of Language In Animal Farm
Thesis: In George Orwell s Animal Farm, the language Orwell uses serves in favor of the
occupants of Animal Farm but gradually transforms into the bane of their existences which creates
a mood of confusion, illustrating the psychological wreck amoung the masses in the Russian
Revolution for the readers. At the start of the Revolution, Old Major shares his original ideas
during his speech. Speaking to the animals, he concludes, All the habits of Man are evil. And,
above all, no animal must never tyrannise over his own kind. (31) Old Major implies that the worst
habit of man is their power hungry nature, so he declares these vows to separate themselves from
mankind. He gives the animals the feeling of empowerment, giving them the idea that... Show more

revolution against humans, the animals lives would improve and they would have much better

Novel Play Review Notes: Brave New World
Key Quotation
Everyone belongs to everyone else, after all. (149)
The idea of complete access in Brave New World actually elucidates the confinement in which the
citizens of the modern world are living in. Everyone must subject to one another s desires and
motives, seemingly being treated like property. Consequently, the fact that all the members of this
society play both the role of master and slave demonstrates that the only individuals with a sense of
true freedom are those who regulate the society and control the thoughts of the general population.

From the beginning of the novel readers are introduced to a highly advanced yet seemingly
dystopian society, based in London. Huxley establishes that the year is A.F. 632 or 2540,
commemorating Henry Ford s production of the Ford Model T in 1908 (A.F. 1). Already,
readers begin to understand the role the setting plays in the novel as the new World State
worship a figure of industrial and technological advancements similar to how people of our time
worship God. Huxley further creates a disturbing image by elaborately describing every single
detail of this new world, from professions such as Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning to
technologies like scent organs and vibro vacuum massages. This intense emphasis of detail even
helps parody our own world. Christianity has the cross, citizens of the World State have their T .
We would say, Thank God! ; they say Thank Ford! . Consequently, while London enjoys the fruits
of these advancements, Huxley describes the savage reservation in New Mexico with the same
kind of detail, but keeping an emphasis on the primitive characters of this land. The reservation
shares a resemblance to that of an exhibition at a zoo, and partly takes that form as Bernard Marx,
one of the protagonists, visits the area to examine and view the inhabitants. In the reservation,
Bernard is given a tour of the culture, activities, and people of the reservation. Aside from the
natural landscape, readers learn that even the

Anselm s Ontological Argument Analysis
In the Proslogion written by Anselm of Canterbury, Anselm gives his ontological argument of how
God exists. This essay explains that Anselm s argument of God s existence works. In particular, I
will show that Anselm s ontological argument makes sense by showing that the statements that
logically contribute to the existenceof God. In Anselm s ontological argument, he states that God
means something than which greater can be thought. In other words, God is whatever it is better to
be than not to be (Anselm, Proslogion, 9). This means that God is the greatest thing that can be
conceived. For if God did not exist, then something greater than God would exist. Nevertheless,
nothing is better than God can be thought, therefore, saying if God did not exist, that something
greater than God would exist. contradictions that God is the greatest thing that can be thought.
Which helps conclude that God must exist because nothing is greater than God. The ontological
argument of Anselm also includes how the idea of God exists in the mind even of the person who
denies that God exists in reality. This means that someone who doubts the existence of Godat least
knows what God is the greatest thing that can be conceived. Another premise of Anselm is that
something that exists in reality, is better than something that only exists in... Show more content on

the two arguments should triumph or fail together. Gaunilo s argument of the perfect island fails in

argument, that the ontological argument of the existence of God should be

By making improvements to the Welfare System in America has become a way of life that has

programs. The Census Bureau recorded by surveys over 101, 716,000 people who worked full
time year around in 2011 which only allowed one member of the family to work year round. The

The welfare reform system s goal was to get people off the welfare system and onto the job
market. The hope was to move people from dependency to self reliance. Opposition to the new
welfare reform system has occurred. Some believe support in a welfare to work program might
create new problems for children by adding strains to family life or by exposing children to poor
substitute care arrangements for policies that design welfare to work programs that pursue the dual
goals of economic self sufficiency for families and healthy development of children. (http:/
/www.nga.org/welfare/employmentretentationemployed.htm).
Welfare policies aimed at improving family circumstances for both children and parents must not
make the error of focusing solely on parents; if the intention is to enhance the immediate and long
term development of both generations within the family, then policies must differentiate between
youth and their parents. These issues have brought about numerous debates. These debates have
focused on the welfare reform system. Still in the debate are the pros and cons of this new system,
focusing on the welfare of the child, the parent, the employer, and the taxpayer. Improvements to
the Welfare System will prevent fraud by allowing more than one family member to work; limiting
opportunities to receive a higher education; and providing opportunities to rise above poverty.
First, by allowing more than one family member to work will

A Series for All Lovers of Fantasy
For centuries, humans have loved stories, particularly ones they can either relate to, or ones that are
plain exciting. A story of adventure, mystery, and the honest against the malevolent... the book
series The Castaways of the Flying Dutchman had all of this. Brian Jacques wrote the series, with
the first book published in 2001 and the last one in 2006, spanning over a three book series. The
first one is the one that named the series, the second book called The Angel s Command, and the
author named the final installment The Voyage of Slaves. The series follows two characters, a
boy named Ben and his dog, Ned, as they travel through the world on land and sea, facing
diabolical people and plans. The two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the author based the legend in the story off of a real sailor s tale. As previously stated, the
legend this uses features the ghost ship The Flying Dutchman, a name that people have used
over and over again. Although Jacques changed parts of the legend a bit to fit the series, it
introduces the reader to a whole new world of stories. Adapting a legend adds a whole new depth
to the story, as it makes the narrative so appealing. Personally, I had never heard of this legend
before, but the first novel actually made me want to learn more about that time period and the
legends mariners would tell of the mysteries of the sea. Known for his skill in writing the Redwall
books, Brian Jacques carried this style over into the Castaways series. He uses vivid figurative
language, exquisite vocabulary, exceptional dialogue techniques, and creates memorable characters
all throughout the whole series. In The Angel s Command, the very first sentence of the book
reads, Great and golden, like an enormous, newly minted doubloon, the Caribbean sun presided
over the waterfront. From merely the first sentence, the reader can see how amazing Jacques
writes, using similes and excellent vocabulary. Yet he doesn t write with words that no one can
even read, let alone understand. Jacques does a fine job writing with words that are the slightest bit
complex that it increases the reader s vocabulary, yet they know what they are reading.

Miraculous Lost And Found Analysis
It is extremely important to tell your friends and family where you are going whenever you go
out hiking or doing other activities. Sharing where you are going and when you will arrive back
to a family member or friend can save your life. If you don t tell someone where you are going, it
could cost you your life! Just by telling someone it assures that if something bad happens to you

Personal Electronics, Clothing, And Vacation Destination
1.Consider the last purchase you made in these categories: personal electronics, clothing, and
vacation destination. To what extent was your purchase decision influenced by decision making
complexity, individual influences, social influences, and situational influences? What specific
issues were the most influential in making the decision? How could a marketer have swayed
your decision in each case? When making majority of my purchases I do research on the item
and analyze all the reviews that are left from customers that have already purchased the item.
The last personal electronic that I purchased was my Apple MacBook. The decision making
complexity was not a major issue when making this purchase. I have owned many laptops and
they all seemed to have last for about three to four years. My wife has owned her MacBook for
almost ten years and has never had an issue. I knew I was going to buy a MacBook and all the
different specs that I could choose from never really made a difference. The individual influence
from my wife played a major role in this purchase. She has never had any problems with her
MacBook and pushed that I make the same purchase for my next computer. The social influence
was not a major factor in the decision to make the purchase as many of my friends did not own a
MacBook. The situational influence played two major factors against the purchase of the
MacBook. The software that a MacBook uses is different from Windows that majority of computers

Essay on Nicholas I
Nicholas I
Nicholas I has been portrayed, and perhaps rightfully so, as a strict and reactionary tsar. Indeed, his
internal policies were often repressive he sought to nip any liberalism in the bud, often brutally. His
approach to solving problems in the Empire and keeping control was to create the Nicholas system ,
a bureaucratic system defined by and completely based on absolute monarchy. Nicholas revamped
govermental structure by strengthening and centralizing bureaucratic structures to an
unprecedented degree. He did this as an attempt to deal with all of Russia s problems himself. At
most importantly the structure known as His Majesty s own Chancery, which was the nerve center
of the empire s administrative mechanisms. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

squelch the rebellion were disastrous his general was not effective at all in battle strategy and
many of his men were being killed by cholera. In fact, his brother Konstantin was killed by the
same disease. Finally, after switching generals, Nicholas was able to regain Poland. However, his
Polish policies made him unpopular with France and England. Public opinion was decidedly on the
side of the Polish insurgents.
Furthermore, Russia experienced a cholera epidemic in 1830 1, a potential cause for disorder.
Nicholas retreated to his summer residence in Peterhof to avoid the plague. The populace was

people. In a typical flourish of drama, he

The International Accounting Standards Board
Introduction
Over the past few decades there has been a significant transformation in the global financial
structure. These remarkable changes are a result of increasing global competition, changes in
business and political climate, increasing technological advancements etc. Globalization in
particular has given the corporations and individual borrowers to look beyond the borders for
finance and investment opportunities. In order to protect these investors and to maintain the market
integrity a financial reporting framework was developed. This framework ensures high quality of
financial reporting and true and fair representation of general information for the users of financial

The framework serves as a guide for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the moment nearly more than 100 countries comply with the IASB standards. Moreover the
board is also responsible for the International Financial Reporting standards (Ready ratios, 2010).
The process for setting these standards comprises of certain stages such as: setting the agenda,
planning, developing the discussion paper and exposure draft and finally setting the standard. After
issuing the standards the board members hold meetings to discuss and review whether there are any
issues regarding its implementation (Foley,2004).
IASB was founded in April 2001, as a replacement for the IASC. It consists of 15 board members
from different countries, with a diverse financial reporting background appointed by a board of

for their financial reporting. USA on the other hand has its own set of standards (GAAP) issued by

actor and comedian that took little to no time in being noticed was Antonio De Curtis or more
popularly known as TotГі.
Antonio De Curtis was born on February 15th, 1898 in the little town of Rione SanitГЎ in Naples,
Italy. He stayed in town until elementary school, then he was shipped off to a boarding school
where he didn t even receive his graduating diploma. Antonio prefered to hangout in the little alleys
of his town much more than going to school. But while at school, playfully boxing with a teacher,
he broke his nose and from then on he had an infamous crooked nose. ... Show more content on

While watching a theatrical production Antonio was struck by many comedians, who he
immediately imitated with perfection. Later in 1913/14 he went on to performing comical shows
himself but took the stage name of Clerment.
When war broke out De Curtis was ready and prepared, but out of fear he faked a heart attack and
was sent back home but he paid a price. Back home he served as a policeman as an alternative to
going to war. This is a great example of the italian saying fai u stupibo pe nu ghi a uerra ; being
stupid so you don t need to go to war. So likewise to war he understood the struggle just being in
the police station.
After the war, Antonio went back to the theater. He started a band with Eduardo and Peppino De
Filippo and Cesare Bixio. He wrote poems, composed songs and dedicated so much time in the
show business. Continuing on this road he accomplished a certain fame, and from here on he will

God Bless America by Irving Berlin
God Bless America is one of Irving Berlin s best known songs. We hear it at ceremonies, at
sporting events, all over across the United States. It was originally composed by Berlin in 1918
while he was serving in the U.S. Army. He set the song aside for a while and didn t pick it back
up until he later revised the piece in 1938. The most famous version of this song was recorded
by Kate Smith. It is even considered her signature song. The songs genre is considered to be an
American patriotic song. He received criticism at first, especially from Anti Semitic groups
because Berlin was Russian born and Jewish. However, the song gained quick popularity and
was even used by Roosevelt as his official campaign song. The song is often played at sporting
events and was sung as a tribute by Celine Dion after the terrorist attacks of September 11th. God
Bless Americawas originally written for a full orchestra and was first performed that way by Kate
Smith with a choir singing backup vocals as well. The piece is written in the key of F major and
is in cut time. The tempo is set at moderato, however, in Kate s original performance many
liberties were taken in terms of tempo. Berlin, drafted by the Army during World War I to write
songs of patriotism, wrote the song but decided it was not fitting for the Yip Yip Yaphank series
that he was doing. The song only resurfaced when Kate Smith s manager asked Berlin if he
something patriotic that she could sung. Thus, God Bless America

Victoria Aveyard s Red Queen
In the book, Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, Mare s world is run by people of silver blood with
the people of red blood bowing down to their every word. Mare is forced into royalty and must act
silver, although she is red in the blood. The author included specific details in the story that helps
build character and helps the readers understand the story. Two details that help readers understand
the story are similes and the point of view.
The first technique in Red Queen was similes. Victoria Aveyard writes The laugh escapes me like
a gunfire, (Aveyard 213) Similes in books help the readers to understand the book by being able
to picture the book as a movie in their head. Victoria Aveyard did this because she wanted to help
the reader have a better idea about the novel by using a comparison. All young adults know that a ...

Aveyard purposely chose the story to be in the first person point of view to allow the readers to
recognize the strong emotions the main character, Mare, has felt during the novel. Victoria
Aveyard writes, I want them to be found. I want them in front of me with a blade at their backs,
and I want them to sing like the cowardly birds they are. (Aveyard 245) Since Red Queen is in
first person point of view, anyone who was to read or hear this sentence would be scared,
especially since it was directed at the narrator. When a book is in first person point of view, the
reader feels like they are inside the book, like they are living and traveling in a different
dimension with people they know better than their own family. The author also writes, The worst
has happened already. We have lost. (Aveyard 329) The author wrote this because she wanted the
readers to understand how Mare is feeling since everyone knows what it s like to fail something.
This is the 2nd way Victoria Aveyard incorporated a technique into her

The Color Purple by Alice Walker
The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more
than black people were made for white, or women created for men. Straight from the mouth of
Alice Walker this quote was spoken in order to point out that fact that none of God s creatures
were put on this Earth to be someone else s property. Alice Walker
is an African American novelist
and poet who took part in the 1960 s civil rights movement in Mississippi. Walker s creative vision
was sparked by the financial suffering and racial horror of African American life and culture in the
rural South. Her writing explores different relationships among women and embraces the
compensating power of social and political revolution. Walker was a catalyst for change during her
lifetime.
Alice Malsenior Walker was born on February 9, 1944, in Eatonton, Georgia. Alice Walker is one
of the most admired African American authors writing today. Because she was the youngest
daughter of sharecroppers, Walker grew up fairly poor. Her mother spent her days as a maid in
order to provide for her eight children. When Walker was about 8 years old, she was victim to a
serious injury that impacted her life and personality. She was shot in the right eye with a BB
pellet dur8ing agame of cowboys and Indians with two of her brothers. Pasty scar tissue formed in
her damaged eye, and caused her to become self conscious of this visible mark. After the incident,
Walker largely withdrew from the world around her.

agency. Given the complexity of both the intelligence and law enforcement communities and their
many overlapping jurisdictions, it was inevitable that key information would slip through the
cracks between agencies. The inability to analyze and link critical information across (or even
within an agency) is referred to as linkage blindness and will be a major theme throughout this
book. In part, the Homeland Security Act of 2002, the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001, and its
reauthorization in 2005 were executive and legislative responses to the problem of linkage
blindness by organizing diffuse and autonomous law enforcement agencies and strengthening the
government s abilities to obtain information. Stephen Flynn (2001) provides a useful illustration of
this critical law enforcement problem, referring to the arrival of a hypothetical ship with
questionable cargo and a crew on an intelligence watch list for potential terrorist ties:
The Coast Guard would be likely to know about the scheduled arrival of a tanker carrying hazardous
cargo. The Customs Service might have some advance cargo manifest information. The INS might
or might not know much about the crew, depending

Risk Factors Affecting Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery
M.C was admitted to Providence hospital in Waco on September 11, 2015 to undergo coronary
artery bypass graft surgery. He has a previous medical history of coronary artery disease (CAD),
hypertension, MI, and hyperlipidemia. All of these diseases put M.C at an increased risk for acute
CAD leading to occluded vessels that supply the heartwith adequate bloodflow and oxygenation.
Nonmodifiable risk factors associated with coronary arterydisease include age, gender, family
history, and ethnic background. Modifiable risk factors include smoking, obesity, elevated serum
lipid levels, limited physical activity, stress, and hypertension (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). M.C s

The fibrous plaque is often elevated and protrudes into the vessel lumen, partially or completely
obstructing blood flow through the artery (Ignatavicius Workman, 2010). When the coronary
arteries are unable to meet the cardiac muscle s need for oxygen an imbalance occurs resulting in
stable angina or unstable angina. With stable angina the plaque is fixed and is associated with chest
discomfort in response to activities. Whenever the plaque that has been accumulating in the arteries
ruptures the body responds by platelet aggregation, thrombus formation, and vasoconstriction as an
inflammatory response known as acute coronary syndrome or unstable angina. This in turn
narrows the blood vessels and can cause an increase in obstruction of the artery. Once the artery
has plaque accumulation of 40%, blood flow starts being blocked. The amount of blood flow
blocked through occlusion of the artery determines the disease process.
M.C also had increased glucose levels while I was providing care. Hyperglycemia can cause
increased inflammation of the blood vessel walls damaging the endothelial lining of the vessel.
Hyperglycemia is another major cause for concern because it creates additional plaque buildup
causing occlusion and further complications.
With recurrent plaque build up on the arteriolar walls and vasoconstriction M.C developed and
was diagnosed with hypertension. Hypertension is defined as a systolic blood pressure at or above

The American Home Front During World War 1
(Just as a side note, I had pictures of the posters in the original paper but couldn t transfer them to

War I changed America greatly. It had an obvious effect on the way we handle business on the
home front. Propaganda, rationing, and political views all played a part on American citizens in
World War I. Propaganda was a huge tool used to sway citizens toward a particular political view.
The U.S.A. entered World War One in April 1917, but lost no time in producing many more

People also planted liberty gardens, so they wouldn t need to buy everything from the store.
Political views played a great part in shaping America during World War I. Previously, every war
was because of a great and direct threat to American existence. In the case of World War I, we
went to war to preserve democracy. Germany certainly wouldn t have wiped us off the map.
America also tried to maintain neutrality, electing Woodrow Wilson on the slogan He kept us out
of war. (fff.org) The American people were easily manipulated into anti German and pro war
beliefs. More American like names were given to certain things. Hamburgers became Salisbury
steaks because Hamburg was located in Germany. Sauerkraut became liberty cabbage, because
sauerkraut was a German name. Beethoven s music was banned, and burning of German books was
common. These techniques were highly successful. The government found that overt and subtle
forms of propaganda fanned the requisite passions of pride and prejudice to fight a total war in
Europe. Indeed, aggressive propaganda helped to skirt constitutional and statutory limitations on
war policies В— policies that would never pass rational scrutiny in peacetime. Empirically, it
proved that government propaganda aimed at arousing strong feelings of American nationalism

The Importance Of Dance In My Life
Dance In My Life Dance, along with music, has always been a part of my life. As a child, my
sister and I would choreograph our own dance routines pretending to be with the USO. We
wanted to be like The Supremes or Martha and the Vandellas, or even the Bee Gees or Osmonds.
Together, we would make up song and dance routines then perform them for our family. Really,
we were just trying to please our daddy whom we adored. Regrettably, I was never able to
participate in formal dance training. Most other kids joined the dance classes at Tony Deel s
Studio but I was unable to do so for financial reasons. Alternatively, I became a cheerleader and that
same year I was allowed to also join drill team and pom squad. Initially, I was a lanky, awkward
teen with little coordination, but in time I gained skills and dance moves that put me at the
front of the squad. Surprisingly, I became so adept at the moves in the routines I was able to also
choreograph many of our performances. Dance became my happy place . There, in front of all the
crowds of people at the football or basketball games, I was no longer the shy little girl who was
embarrassed to speak for fear of being made fun of. My self image of being a scrawny, crooked
toothed, flat chested little curly mop head didn t matter when I was performing. I was so good
at it, that I was able to show off those skills with confidence. This form of dance saved me from a
life of cowering in the corner or in the shadows of my peers.

Voltaire s View Of Candide
Voltaire s Candide is a satirical work written in 1759 as a commentary during the Enlightenment.
One of Voltaire s most famous works, it also functioned to reflect Voltaire s opinions. Candide is
considered Voltaire s signature work in which he levels his sharpest criticism against nobility,
philosophy, the church, and human cruelty. Though often considered a representative text of the
Enlightenment era, the novel criticizes a number of Enlightenment philosophies. As reading and
books were a sign of wealth in that time, the trend among nobility was reading. The criticisms and
ridicule within the satirical nature of Candidehad much to do with the nobility and their standards
and ideas, especially in contrast with those of the lower classes. Through the form and technique of
satire in Candide, Voltairesuggests the absurdity of societal principles and theories.
Throughout the novel, Candide s teacher and philosopher, Pangloss, persists in his paternalistic
optimism theory. He continually expresses his belief that this world is the best of all possible
worlds and that everything happens and exists for a reason. One example is after the earthquake
in Lisbon, killing 30,000 people, Pangloss comments, For, said he, all that is for the best. If there
is a volcano at Lisbon it cannot be elsewhere. It is impossible that things should be other than they
are; for everything is right (5.14). Pangloss insists that the volcano was made for the exact purpose
of the earthquake

The Current Product Development Process
Secondly, the current product development process needs a timely interaction among different
departments in order to detect problems in a relatively early period of the process; the traditional
approach would not meet this needs (Yelkur et al., 1996). Thus, the new product development team
is required to be made up of members from different background, such as engineering, marketing,
and management, so that they may work closely in introducing new products. As a result, the
democratic atmosphere of the work place is crucial for the process. Amabile (1998) and Amabile et
al. (1999) argue that freedom in processes promotes their motivation and helps employees make the
most of their expertise.

Three kinds of unique features contribute to the IDEO s philosophy of fail often to succeed sooner .
Firstly, the quick prototyping enables the project team to make mistakes to find the appropriate
solutions. In other words, it is similar to the method of trial and error, and follows the principles of
the three R s : Rough, Rapid and Right. This is supported by some experience of IDEO. During the
early stages of the design process, IDEO generate as many ideas as possible. Team members task is
to dump ideas, and they have no responsibilities to the unsuccessful ideas in this period. They
prepare to fail a lot so that the early prototypes are crude, which would not waste the precious time.
In addition, instant interaction among project team members and clients ensure that the products
are consumer centered and members in the project are actively participated. The playroom
atmosphere in IDEO ensures the instant communication between members to exchange latest
insights and ideas, which would enhance their understanding of the ongoing project, because

Rhetorical Analysis Deborah Tannen
In this excerpt, Deborah Tannen speaks anecdotally about her observations of behavioral and
communicative differences between boys and girls in peer groups that are sex separate. I m going
to assume she s talking about all boys and all girls schools. Deborah Tannen describes girls as
typically inclined to choose one femalefriend with whom they ll build a strong and exclusive
bond that revolves around secretive conversation. She goes on to generalize boys as being much
more willing to socialize with a broader peer group in the form of playful activities, and to use
those activities to exhibit their skill, verbally express their knowledge, and to establish their rank in
a pecking order.

That s where I become reluctant to recommend Deborah Tannen s teaching strategy. Looking back
on my public education experience I can think of a lot more exceptions to this description of how
boys and girls use language differently than agreements. Again, I m relying on personal
experiences and I can of course also recall instances where men have dominated a classroom
discussion. However, for me to say that all boys dominated girls during classroom discussions in
Phoenix, AZ during the last stretch of the 20th century or that all girls are reluctant to speak
publicly outside of the comfort of their peer group in Honolulu, HI during the beginning of the 21st
century would be disingenuous and could probably be attributed to an expectancy bias.
Could these statements hold true in a different time, culture or geography? Absolutely. My guess
is that none of the cited researchers whose work this article was predicated upon could have
possibly conceived of a world where, new students that are assigned a questionnaire on Alcohol and
Other Drugs , have six categories to choose from under gender . Though, I have been to plenty of
countries that are ostensibly 20 30 years behind our cultural revolutions where segregation is more
prevalent and gender identity is sufficiently binary to benefit from Deborah s

Triangle Factory Case Study
In the early 20th century of America, conditions in a workplace were very different then it is in
the present day. Because of this, many tragedies occurred since that time. On March 25, 1911 at
precisely 4:45 p.m. the fire alarm was pulled on the eighth floor of the Triangle Shirtwaist
Company factory. Being a shirtwaist company, the factory was filled with an abundance of
fabric, which was highly flammable. The factory`s workers were mostly young female
immigrants of an Italian or Jewish origin. Out of 500 employees that worked in the factory, 146
people were killed. As a result of this disaster, legal action was taken against the factory workers,
modifications and reforms were made to the fire safety rules, and advances were made in workplace
conditions. The government and the employers are both responsible for ensuring proper standards
in the workplace because the government must make the laws, and the employers must enforce
them. Although the employees must also follow the rules and laws to stay safe themselves, the
responsibility is mostly in the government and employers.
The owners of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company factory did not provide appropriate conditions for
their employees. From low pay, long hours, to even child labor were the conditions they had to
endure. The employers should be required to provide an adequate work space for each employee
and a minimum wage that is consistent and not interchangeable. The Triangle factory had children

More than those of any other African writer, Chinua Achebe s writings have helped to develop
what is known as African literature today. And the single book which has helped him to launch his
revolution is the classic, Things Fall Apart. The focus of this essay includes: 1) Achebe s portraiture
of women in his fictional universe, the existing sociocultural situation of the period he is depicting,
and the factors in it that condition male attitudes towards women; 2) the consequences of the
absence of a moderating female principle in his fictions; 3) Achebes progressively changing attitude
towards women s roles; and 4) feminist prospects for African women. In the context of this study,

Things Fall Apart is significant because it began the vogue of African novels of cultural contact
and conflict. It has been translated into over twenty major world languages. Commensurate with
its popularity, images of women receive attention. In a style that is expository rather than

he describes. Like Zora Neale Hurston s Janie Mae Crawford (when married to Jody Starks),
Achebe s women are voiceless. But where even Janie is highly visible, his women are virtually

Duck Death And The Tulip Essay
Duck, death and the tulip is a children s book that delicately explains death. Death had been
personified to help children comprehend the concept of passing away. This picture book is about
how Death follows the Duck everywhere and anywhere the Duck goes. The objectified version of
Death does not cause the Duck any harm or lead the Duck to death, however Death follows the
Duck because death is unexpected. Although Death is objectified in this book, it s the conscience
that allows the thought of death to linger in one s life because the Duck was illustrated to be
surprised when Death had shown up. Furthermore, Death and Duck soon became friends who did

Because death is such a complex subject for children, Duck, Death and the Tulip is able to
explain death in a lighthearted manner without excessive emotions. Furthermore, the story was
able to explain the concept of death without going into too much detail of what happens after
death and other beliefs. This allows children to interpret it in their own ways while
comprehending the theme of the story. In continuation, I believe the illustrations affect reception
because the simplistic contrasting images could have various interpretations and it is up to the
person reading the content on how they would like to interpret each picture. However, the theme
affects popular appeal because death as a theme for a children s book is a sensitive topic for
children to comprehend. Therefore, guardians and adults may be slightly surprised when they

Private And Privacy In The Medical Code Of Ethics
Exposing patient private and sensitive information can cause harm to the patient as well as his/her
relatives. This is the reason medical professionals are compelled by the law especially the HIPAA
privacy rule to ensure that patient personal information is kept private and confidential. Exposing
patient private and sensitive information is one of the unethical behaviors in the medical
profession. In medical profession, the code of ethicsensures that medical practitioners remain
professional (American Nurses Association 21). This ensures high quality service delivery as well
as ensuring that the patients are protected from any possible harm by the actions of the medics.
Privacy is one of the key issues in medical profession. The behavior of medical practitioners leaking
patient information is unethical and thus can harm the patient. Patient information has to be kept
private and thus the medics are compelled to ensure confidentially. However, there are various
circumstance in which the information can be shared. In medical profession, confidentially is
paramount and thus patients ought to be assured of their privacy. Some illnesses such as HIV
/AIDS can make the patient traumatized and thus such information has to remain confidential
between the medical practitioner and the patient (Kuo et al 25). The code of ethics on patient
privacy and confidentiality have been supported by Kantian ethics theory on individual morality.

The Ethical Issue Of Xenotransplantation And The Catholic...
Ethics, as defined in the dictionary, are moral principles that help govern a persons behaviour or the
conducting of an activity. Ethics must be taken into consideration when forming a decision towards
major and minor issues in our society. Many ethical issues are present in our society: abortion,
euthanasia and gay marriage. In my report I will be discussing the ethical issue of
Xenotransplantation and the Catholic Churches response to it. Xenotransplantation is a procedure
involving the transplantation of live cells, organs and tissues from nonhumans into humans. It
provides an alternative way to treat serious and fatal diseases such as Alzheimer s, diabetes and
Parkinson s disease. It also poses as a solution for the ongoing problem of organ shortage. Generally,
Xenotransplantation is a reoccurring ethical issue as this specific procedure utilises organs from
animals, such as pigs and nonhuman primates. Individuals who go through Xenotransplantation
may experience difficulties with their identity and accepting the fact that a part of them is not
entirely human. Ethical issues within Xenotransplantation include whether we have the right to use
animals for human life, whether we should cross animals and humans together and whether it is
acceptable in many religious traditions. Religions often contribute a lot of insight into issues such
as these as their teachings, traditions and holy scriptures are always taken into consideration. The

RenГ© Descartes Meditations Essay
RenГ© Descartes Meditations
RenГ© Descartes argument that he does not know his piece of wax through his senses is rather
straightforward. First, his sensory perceptions of the wax are its color, scent, sound, texture,
temperature and the like. However, these purported properties of the wax are not constant; if the
wax is brought close to a flame, its color, sound, texture and all the rest will change. Nevertheless,
Descartes claims, no one would deny that the object now by the fire is the same wax that was first
away from the fire. Descartes implies that it is evident and obvious that the wax, though its
appearance to the senses is wholly changed, is still the same wax. Let us grant this. Because the
wax is still the same wax even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flexibility and mutability refer to the wax s ability to take on any of an indefinite number of shapes
indeed, an infinite number. We cannot know these properties of the wax through our imaginations
because our imagination is incapable of cataloguing all the possible shapes the wax may take. (The
imagination, remember, consists in discrete mental images of the wax with certain shapes.)
Likewise, with the property of extension we cannot imagine all of the sundry sizes and dimensions
of which the wax is capable of taking, but nevertheless we know that it has this same ability.
Because we cannot account fully for the three essential properties of the wax with our imagination
we conclude that we do not know the wax through our imagination.
The wax, so conceived, is merely a substance with the essential properties of being extended,
flexible, and mutable properties general enough that the wax can be taken to stand for a generic,
supposedly physical, objects. Descartes concludes that he knows the wax through an inspection of
the mind alone. To understand this reasoning, first note that by this point in the Meditations,
Descartes is operating under the understanding that, insofar as he knows, he is only a thinking
thing. Therefore, if we perceive, we do so with powers that are innate in us as a thinking thing.
These powers of thought are earlier enumerated to include the capacity to doubt, understand, affirm,
deny, will, refuse, sense, and imagine.

Comparison of Hinduism to Christianity
Hinduism is one of the earliest religons that is still practiced around the world. It seeks to
answer the same questions that Christianity does, but arrives at different answers. It seeks truth,
but fails to find it. Hinduism seeks to ask the question of where do we come from? This question
is not easily answerable. Because of the nature of Hinduism, everything is in a cycle. There is no
beginning and there is no end. Hinduism also does not have a set of defined rules because of it s
views on multiple views and believes. Because of this, we see a few different origins for human
kind, but Hinduism fails to give a definite definition.
Hinduism would next ask the question of Identity. What does it mean to be human? Ultimately
Hinduism has a rather selfish view of this, even if it believes in peace and harmony. It looks at
people as all part of the same god essence . Humanities purpose is to be brought back to nirvana. It
is me centric. You try over and over to live the perfect life. There is no grace for the things you do.
Ultimately you are responsible for living the perfect life and reaching Nirvana, a place where you
are one with the god essence .
So what is the meaning of all of this? Humanity must get to Moksha, which is known as the
release. It is a release from wanting and desiring. It is where you are basically liberated from your
humanity. It is the Hindu kind of salvation.
So what about Morality? How do we know what is right or wrong? Hinduism does not really

Imagery In Nate Powell s March
Everywhere you look you see many different beautiful scenes of nature and socitety. In the book
March, the illustrator, Nate Powell, along with the authors, John Lewis and Andrew Aydin, use
these scenes to illustrate the civil rights movement. The novel shows the growth of the main
character, John Lewis, and how he started as a young child who grew up into a very influential
man in the civil rights movement. March describes many influential moments in the civil rights
movement, such as the lunch counter sit ins and the Freedom Ride. The novel uses different types
of imagery to enhance the story and add. Powel uses white and black to evoke a sense of sadness.
The illustrator also uses different techniques to show the importance of different... Show more

One way used many times throughout the book is using black to reinforce a grim tone onto the
reader. An example of this is in Book One on page 93. The image shown is of lunch counter
protesters during a sit in with a counter closed sign. The photo uses mostly black to develop a
dark and unsettling tone. On the page before it is shown how the servers did not want to serve
SNCC members. The negativity and hatefulness of the servers is reinforced with the dark tones
used to create the image on page 93. Another instance the illustrator uses black is in Book Two
on pages 102 through 108. The Freedom Riders were arrested and they were transferred to the
Mississippi State Penitentiary, also known as Parchman Farm. This point in the Freedom Riders
journey was one of the low points for the Riders. They were dehumanized and treated terribly in
the jail, this shown in the way the panels are illustrated. As soon as the Riders entered the jail cells,
the white borders started to transition into black borders. This transitions the tone the reader feels
while reading. The dark colors cause the reader to subconsciously feel unsettled and unhappy, which
is what the Freedom Riders felt during their time at the

Explaining the Idea of Ahimsa
To explain how Gandhi applied the idea of ahimsa to modern times, I will first define ahimsa and
then explore ahimsa in the Jain religion more extensively. I will then discuss how Gandhi practiced
this concept in life. Ahimsa is a Sanskrit term equivalent to a not or without hiб№ЃsДЃ injury,
which when translated means the principle of non injury to living beings . http:/
/dictionary.reference.com/browse/Ahimsa. The supreme principle in Jainismis non violence
(ahimsa). It also plays an important role in Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, and other
religions, but Jainism is unique in this principle because it demonstrates it to all living beings. Jains
believe that everything has the ability to suffer, even non living things such as rocks, fire, and oil.
Therefore ahimsa must include everything on earth. This view of reality, called hylozoism (Greek:
matter alive ) may be quite ancient (Malloy 186). Karma is also an important concept in Jainism
being closely connected to reincarnation, liberation (moksha), and ahimsa. Reincarnation is
sometimes called transmigration of the soul, believing that the soul experiences rebirths of different
kinds of lives human, animal or even supernatural until it reaches its final destination. http:/
/www.world religions professor.com/reincarnation karma.html. Karma is what determines the
course of reincarnation. The level of rebirth is determined automatically according to one s state of
karma at the time of death of the current

Essay On Writing A Spell
Writing Your Own Spells
There are no fixed rules on how to create spells and what one individual considers right may not
work as well for others. It may possibly take some time experimenting and practicing to discover
what works best for you, particularly if you do not possess very much skill with spell work.
Successfully accomplishing a spell is a skill that comes in relation to practice. The better you are at
performing with magickal energy, the better your results will be. The more you know the spell, the
more effective it will be.
Your intent
When you re going to cast a spell you need to be mentally fixed on what you desire to occur. You
ought to undoubtedly meditate before even make an attempt to cast a spell. If you don t meditate ...

Therefore, the tools you use in fact matter. If you do not use any type of tool, you may have a less
chance of your spells working.
So, what items do you need? Every herb, color, gemstone has its own properties. For example, if
you were doing a spell for money, you would use herbs such Basil, Cinnamon, Clove or Patchouli.
The oils could be Cedar, Clove, or Patchouli. Citrine, Green Aventurine or Jade would be your
gemstones. Of course the color green. As in green for money. Green candles, green sachet. Perform
on a Thursday or Sunday. For protection, try Aloe, Basil, and Garlic. Amber, Garnet, Turquoise.
Colors blue, white on a Thursday
Choosing your words
Writing your own spell is not difficult. It helps you to not only distinguish your spell, but to
focus on it. Do you know what words you will use? Do you plan to chant? Will it be vocalized
during your spell or murmured under your breath? Are you going to recite something ceremonial
and authoritative, calling upon the Gods/Goddesses for support? Perhaps it will be the type where
you simply meditate on. Keep in mind, there is power in your words, so choose them wisely.
Timing
Your spells are usually worked on the day or days where it would be more effective. For example,
for divination and healing magick, Monday would be the day to perform. Sunday, using the energy
of the sun would be the best time for healing and success, to obtain goals.
The time of the day for spells will also play a

Silko s Yellow Woman
Silko s use of multiple points of view in her exposition engage the reader and reinforce her
themes. Her switching between societies and points in time allow her to present the ideas and
perspectives of multiple groups and what affect those ideas have. This changing of perspective also
shows how ideas have shifted over time. The structure of Silko s exposition makes her points clear,
convincing and engaging because of its shifting perspective. Silky analyzes modern white society
and Laguna society and compares their ideas, dealing with beauty and identity. This allows her to
give reason behind her insecurities and her eventual acceptance of them. She points out the focus on
visual beauty and normality in white society and uses her interaction with the tourist to show how

  • 2. Summary Of When Theodore Roosevelt Saved Football Bruce Watson, author of When Theodore Roosevelt Saved Football, writes in chronological order the events in which he describes how football was saved from the notorious brutality the sport was once known for. The intervention and involvement by President Theodore Roosevelt would become a key element in the restructuring of football. While Roosevelt had never taken an interest to playing football during his time at Harvard, he had great respect for the game. Furthermore, Roosevelt believed the roughness nature of the game was necessary. Because of this, injuries ranging from severe to fatal became standard. However, as stated in the reading by Watson, pressure on Roosevelt built rapidly to take action as death tolls among players continued ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Margaret Sanger s Stand Up For Birth Control Rights Imagine being a married woman in your 30 s during the beginning of the twentieth century. You are worn out from giving birth multiple times and you are desperate to know of a way to prevent yourself from having more children. This was the exact case for millions of women in the twentieth century. Women had no rights as a person, nor did they have any rights to their own bodies. In this era, the topics of sexuality, sex or birth controlwere all taboo subject matters and never discussed between married or un married couples. It wasn t until the year of 1912 that a woman by the name of Margaret Sangerstarted her crusade to promote the right for women to use contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies. In this essay, I will discuss what inspired Margaret Sanger to stand up for birth control rights. I will also explore the trials and legal issues that Sanger came up against. Lastly, I will talk about the victory and the difference Sanger made for women in the twentieth century. Margaret Louise Higgins (Sanger was her married name) was born in the year of 1879 in Corning, New York. She was sixth of eleven children and was born into an Irish American family. Margaret knew at a very young age that she wanted to make a difference to empower women and to leave her mark on the world. Margaret was first inspired to go into the nursing field after witnessing her own mother die at the young age of forty from tuberculosis (TB). Margaret s mother endured eighteen pregnancies but, she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Dissonances Of God And God In The Iliad Some of the things that define an individual and its behavior are the culture and ideals in its residence. These ideals and culture prove that each and everyone one of us is unique. For example, an ideal Greek citizen is versatile, clever, a leader, an orator, adaptable and tricky while an ideal Hebrew citizen is wise, obedient, studious, righteous, inadequate, and is able to converse with God. In Hebrew literature, God is just and merciful and the humans are inadequate. On the other hand, in Greek literature, gods are powerful and self centered, and the humans are the ones responsible for the community. The difference between the two is apparent, and considering these evident differences, we can also reason out that the way how the characters... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Daughter, is it not my duty to see you happily settled? And Boaz, the man with whose work women you were, is he not our kinsman? Tonight he will be winnowing the barley on the threshing floor. So wash and perfume yourself, put on your cloak and go down to the threshing floor...take note where he lies, then go and turn back the covering at his feet and lie down yourself. He will tell you what to do. (Verses 1 4, Chapter 3) When Boaz saw Ruth, he asked her who she was and Ruth answered, I am your servant Ruth. Spread the skirt of your cloak over your servant for you have the right of redemption over me. However, even if Boaz already has the right of redemption over Ruth because of what Ruth did, he still cannot acquire her because Ruth has a kinsman closer than Boaz himself. On that very day, Boaz decided to settle everything regarding the redemption over the piece of land and Ruth with the man who really has the right of redemption over them. District 9 also shows a strong use of vibrant landscape, particularly obvious in the use of contrast between the modern, clean, ordered landscape of the MNU buildings and the desolate, junkyard, slum like ghetto of District 9 itself. This represents the psyche of the two groups, and the vastly different cultures and contexts of the two races. It also shows the balance of power between them, and it s evident when the MNU conducts a raid into District 9, where the clean uniforms and vehicles of the MNU, a contrast to the ramshackle buildings and filthy, ragged clothing of the prawns . This first glimpse into the Landscape of district 9 colours our perceptions of the prawns and their contexts. After the failed attempt to integrate them into society due to a lack of understanding of individual ownership, and their vastly different culture, the MNU corrals them into District 9 and treat them the prawns with contempt. This is a clear indication of their rejection of prawns into normal society, due to their differences in context, morals and values. As the film progresses, the two groups are explored deeper, and the landscapes continue to influence understanding of the two groups, for example, a short video is shown of the space ship the prawns used to arrive at earth. Inside, the city sized landscape appears hostile and dangerous. This influences the audience s initial feelings towards the prawns. In 1984, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everyone must subject to one another s desires and motives, seemingly being treated like property. From the beginning of the novel readers are introduced to a highly advanced yet seemingly dystopian society, based in London. Huxley establishes that the year is A.F. 632 or 2540, commemorating Henry Ford s production of the Ford Model T in 1908 (A.F. 1). Already, readers begin to understand the role the setting plays in the novel as the new World State worship a figure of industrial and technological advancements similar to how people of our time worship God. Huxley further creates a disturbing image by elaborately describing every single detail of this new world, from professions such as Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning to technologies like scent organs and vibro vacuum massages. This intense emphasis of detail even helps parody our own world. Christianity has the cross, citizens of the World State have their T . We would say, Thank God! ; they say Thank Ford! . Consequently, while London enjoys the fruits of these advancements, Huxley describes the savage reservation in New Mexico with the same kind of detail, but keeping an emphasis on the primitive characters of this land. The reservation shares a resemblance to that of an exhibition at a zoo, and partly takes that form as Bernard Marx, one of the protagonists, visits the area to examine and view the inhabitants. • 11. Anselm s Ontological Argument Analysis In the Proslogion written by Anselm of Canterbury, Anselm gives his ontological argument of how God exists. This essay explains that Anselm s argument of God s existence works. In particular, I will show that Anselm s ontological argument makes sense by showing that the statements that logically contribute to the existenceof God. In Anselm s ontological argument, he states that God means something than which greater can be thought. In other words, God is whatever it is better to be than not to be (Anselm, Proslogion, 9). This means that God is the greatest thing that can be conceived. For if God did not exist, then something greater than God would exist. Nevertheless, nothing is better than God can be thought, therefore, saying if God did not exist, that something greater than God would exist. contradictions that God is the greatest thing that can be thought. Which helps conclude that God must exist because nothing is greater than God. The ontological argument of Anselm also includes how the idea of God exists in the mind even of the person who denies that God exists in reality. This means that someone who doubts the existence of Godat least knows what God is the greatest thing that can be conceived. The welfare reform system s goal was to get people off the welfare system and onto the job market. The hope was to move people from dependency to self reliance. Opposition to the new welfare reform system has occurred. Some believe support in a welfare to work program might create new problems for children by adding strains to family life or by exposing children to poor substitute care arrangements for policies that design welfare to work programs that pursue the dual goals of economic self sufficiency for families and healthy development of children. (http:/ /www.nga.org/welfare/employmentretentationemployed.htm). Welfare policies aimed at improving family circumstances for both children and parents must not make the error of focusing solely on parents; if the intention is to enhance the immediate and long term development of both generations within the family, then policies must differentiate between youth and their parents. These issues have brought about numerous debates. These debates have focused on the welfare reform system. Still in the debate are the pros and cons of this new system, focusing on the welfare of the child, the parent, the employer, and the taxpayer. Improvements to the Welfare System will prevent fraud by allowing more than one family member to work; limiting opportunities to receive a higher education; and providing opportunities to rise above poverty. As previously stated, the legend this uses features the ghost ship The Flying Dutchman, a name that people have used over and over again. Although Jacques changed parts of the legend a bit to fit the series, it introduces the reader to a whole new world of stories. Adapting a legend adds a whole new depth to the story, as it makes the narrative so appealing. Personally, I had never heard of this legend before, but the first novel actually made me want to learn more about that time period and the legends mariners would tell of the mysteries of the sea. Known for his skill in writing the Redwall books, Brian Jacques carried this style over into the Castaways series. He uses vivid figurative language, exquisite vocabulary, exceptional dialogue techniques, and creates memorable characters all throughout the whole series. In The Angel s Command, the very first sentence of the book reads, Great and golden, like an enormous, newly minted doubloon, the Caribbean sun presided over the waterfront. From merely the first sentence, the reader can see how amazing Jacques writes, using similes and excellent vocabulary. Yet he doesn t write with words that no one can even read, let alone understand. Jacques does a fine job writing with words that are the slightest bit complex that it increases the reader s vocabulary, yet they know what they are reading. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are looked upon highly by fans and many others in their own industry as well. Sometimes it may take years upon years to become noticed , other times it may take only a year or even less. An italian actor and comedian that took little to no time in being noticed was Antonio De Curtis or more popularly known as TotГі. Antonio De Curtis was born on February 15th, 1898 in the little town of Rione SanitГЎ in Naples, Italy. • 23. God Bless America by Irving Berlin God Bless America is one of Irving Berlin s best known songs. We hear it at ceremonies, at sporting events, all over across the United States. It was originally composed by Berlin in 1918 while he was serving in the U.S. Army. He set the song aside for a while and didn t pick it back up until he later revised the piece in 1938. The most famous version of this song was recorded by Kate Smith. It is even considered her signature song. The songs genre is considered to be an American patriotic song. He received criticism at first, especially from Anti Semitic groups because Berlin was Russian born and Jewish. However, the song gained quick popularity and was even used by Roosevelt as his official campaign song. The song is often played at sporting events and was sung as a tribute by Celine Dion after the terrorist attacks of September 11th. God Bless Americawas originally written for a full orchestra and was first performed that way by Kate Smith with a choir singing backup vocals as well. The piece is written in the key of F major and is in cut time. The tempo is set at moderato, however, in Kate s original performance many liberties were taken in terms of tempo. Berlin, drafted by the Army during World War I to write songs of patriotism, wrote the song but decided it was not fitting for the Yip Yip Yaphank series that he was doing. The song only resurfaced when Kate Smith s manager asked Berlin if he something patriotic that she could sung. Thus, God Bless America ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alice Walker is an African American novelist and poet who took part in the 1960 s civil rights movement in Mississippi. Walker s creative vision was sparked by the financial suffering and racial horror of African American life and culture in the rural South. Her writing explores different relationships among women and embraces the compensating power of social and political revolution. Walker was a catalyst for change during her lifetime. Given the complexity of both the intelligence and law enforcement communities and their many overlapping jurisdictions, it was inevitable that key information would slip through the cracks between agencies. The inability to analyze and link critical information across (or even within an agency) is referred to as linkage blindness and will be a major theme throughout this book. In part, the Homeland Security Act of 2002, the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001, and its reauthorization in 2005 were executive and legislative responses to the problem of linkage blindness by organizing diffuse and autonomous law enforcement agencies and strengthening the government s abilities to obtain information. When the coronary arteries are unable to meet the cardiac muscle s need for oxygen an imbalance occurs resulting in stable angina or unstable angina. With stable angina the plaque is fixed and is associated with chest discomfort in response to activities. Whenever the plaque that has been accumulating in the arteries ruptures the body responds by platelet aggregation, thrombus formation, and vasoconstriction as an inflammatory response known as acute coronary syndrome or unstable angina. This in turn narrows the blood vessels and can cause an increase in obstruction of the artery. Once the artery has plaque accumulation of 40%, blood flow starts being blocked. The amount of blood flow blocked through occlusion of the artery determines the disease process. M.C also had increased glucose levels while I was providing care. As a child, my sister and I would choreograph our own dance routines pretending to be with the USO. We wanted to be like The Supremes or Martha and the Vandellas, or even the Bee Gees or Osmonds. Together, we would make up song and dance routines then perform them for our family. Really, we were just trying to please our daddy whom we adored. Regrettably, I was never able to participate in formal dance training. Most other kids joined the dance classes at Tony Deel s Studio but I was unable to do so for financial reasons. Alternatively, I became a cheerleader and that same year I was allowed to also join drill team and pom squad. Initially, I was a lanky, awkward teen with little coordination, but in time I gained skills and dance moves that put me at the front of the squad. Surprisingly, I became so adept at the moves in the routines I was able to also choreograph many of our performances. Dance became my happy place . There, in front of all the crowds of people at the football or basketball games, I was no longer the shy little girl who was embarrassed to speak for fear of being made fun of. My self image of being a scrawny, crooked toothed, flat chested little curly mop head didn t matter when I was performing. I was so good at it, that I was able to show off those skills with confidence. This form of dance saved me from a life of cowering in the corner or in the shadows of my peers. ... • 31. Voltaire s View Of Candide Voltaire s Candide is a satirical work written in 1759 as a commentary during the Enlightenment. One of Voltaire s most famous works, it also functioned to reflect Voltaire s opinions. Candide is considered Voltaire s signature work in which he levels his sharpest criticism against nobility, philosophy, the church, and human cruelty. Though often considered a representative text of the Enlightenment era, the novel criticizes a number of Enlightenment philosophies. As reading and books were a sign of wealth in that time, the trend among nobility was reading. The criticisms and ridicule within the satirical nature of Candidehad much to do with the nobility and their standards and ideas, especially in contrast with those of the lower classes. Through the form and technique of satire in Candide, Voltairesuggests the absurdity of societal principles and theories. Throughout the novel, Candide s teacher and philosopher, Pangloss, persists in his paternalistic optimism theory. He continually expresses his belief that this world is the best of all possible worlds and that everything happens and exists for a reason. One example is after the earthquake in Lisbon, killing 30,000 people, Pangloss comments, For, said he, all that is for the best. If there is a volcano at Lisbon it cannot be elsewhere. Ethics must be taken into consideration when forming a decision towards major and minor issues in our society. Many ethical issues are present in our society: abortion, euthanasia and gay marriage. In my report I will be discussing the ethical issue of Xenotransplantation and the Catholic Churches response to it. Xenotransplantation is a procedure involving the transplantation of live cells, organs and tissues from nonhumans into humans. It provides an alternative way to treat serious and fatal diseases such as Alzheimer s, diabetes and Parkinson s disease. It also poses as a solution for the ongoing problem of organ shortage. Generally, Xenotransplantation is a reoccurring ethical issue as this specific procedure utilises organs from animals, such as pigs and nonhuman primates. Individuals who go through Xenotransplantation may experience difficulties with their identity and accepting the fact that a part of them is not entirely human. Ethical issues within Xenotransplantation include whether we have the right to use animals for human life, whether we should cross animals and humans together and whether it is acceptable in many religious traditions. Religions often contribute a lot of insight into issues such as these as their teachings, traditions and holy scriptures are always taken into consideration. The Catholic Church, Catholicism, ... First, his sensory perceptions of the wax are its color, scent, sound, texture, temperature and the like. However, these purported properties of the wax are not constant; if the wax is brought close to a flame, its color, sound, texture and all the rest will change. Nevertheless, Descartes claims, no one would deny that the object now by the fire is the same wax that was first away from the fire. Descartes implies that it is evident and obvious that the wax, though its appearance to the senses is wholly changed, is still the same wax. Let us grant this. Because the wax is still the same wax even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Flexibility and mutability refer to the wax s ability to take on any of an indefinite number of shapes indeed, an infinite number. We cannot know these properties of the wax through our imaginations because our imagination is incapable of cataloguing all the possible shapes the wax may take. (The imagination, remember, consists in discrete mental images of the wax with certain shapes.) Likewise, with the property of extension we cannot imagine all of the sundry sizes and dimensions of which the wax is capable of taking, but nevertheless we know that it has this same ability. Because we cannot account fully for the three essential properties of the wax with our imagination we conclude that we do not know the wax through our imagination. The wax, so conceived, is merely a substance with the essential properties of being extended, flexible, and mutable properties general enough that the wax can be taken to stand for a generic, supposedly physical, objects. Descartes concludes that he knows the wax through an inspection of the mind alone. To understand this reasoning, first note that by this point in the Meditations, Descartes is operating under the understanding that, insofar as he knows, he is only a thinking thing. Therefore, if we perceive, we do so with powers that are innate in us as a thinking thing. These powers of thought are earlier enumerated to include the capacity to doubt, understand, affirm, deny, will, refuse, sense, and imagine. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Comparison of Hinduism to Christianity Hinduism is one of the earliest religons that is still practiced around the world. It seeks to answer the same questions that Christianity does, but arrives at different answers. It seeks truth, but fails to find it. Hinduism seeks to ask the question of where do we come from? This question is not easily answerable. Because of the nature of Hinduism, everything is in a cycle. There is no beginning and there is no end. Hinduism also does not have a set of defined rules because of it s views on multiple views and believes. Because of this, we see a few different origins for human kind, but Hinduism fails to give a definite definition. Hinduism would next ask the question of Identity. What does it mean to be human? Ultimately Hinduism has a rather selfish view of this, even if it believes in peace and harmony. It looks at people as all part of the same god essence . Humanities purpose is to be brought back to nirvana. It is me centric. You try over and over to live the perfect life. There is no grace for the things you do. Ultimately you are responsible for living the perfect life and reaching Nirvana, a place where you are one with the god essence . So what is the meaning of all of this? Humanity must get to Moksha, which is known as the release. It is a release from wanting and desiring. It is where you are basically liberated from your humanity. It is the Hindu kind of salvation. So what about Morality? How do we know what is right or wrong? Hinduism does not really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One way used many times throughout the book is using black to reinforce a grim tone onto the reader. An example of this is in Book One on page 93. The image shown is of lunch counter protesters during a sit in with a counter closed sign. The photo uses mostly black to develop a dark and unsettling tone. On the page before it is shown how the servers did not want to serve SNCC members. The negativity and hatefulness of the servers is reinforced with the dark tones used to create the image on page 93. Another instance the illustrator uses black is in Book Two on pages 102 through 108. The Freedom Riders were arrested and they were transferred to the Mississippi State Penitentiary, also known as Parchman Farm. This point in the Freedom Riders journey was one of the low points for the Riders. They were dehumanized and treated terribly in the jail, this shown in the way the panels are illustrated. As soon as the Riders entered the jail cells, the white borders started to transition into black borders. This transitions the tone the reader feels while reading.
