Sickle Cell Anemia Research Paper
Did you know that 70,000 to 80,000 alone in the United States of America are affected by sickle cell
anemia alone? Stated from The United States National Library of Medicine. Also said by the United
States National Library of Medicine 1 in 500 African Americans and 1 in 1,000 to 1,400 Hispanic
Americans have the disease. Sad to say but my brother is a part of that 1 in 500 African American.
Which one of the prime reasons I choose this topic. This disease is very severe and can cause
excruciating pain and harm to someone s life.
What is sickle cell anemia? Sickle cell anemia is a severe hereditary form of anemia in which a

section of a normal red blood cell with normal hemoglobin. Figure B shows abnormal, sickled red
blood cells blocking blood flow in a blood vessel. The inset image shows a cross section of a sickle
cell with abnormal (sickle) hemoglobin forming abnormal stiff rods.
From real life example my brother has blood clot that he got three years ago in his leg. Due to him
being sickle cell anemic is had yet to go away because of the lack of blood flow in his body. Also his
leg has imploded.
As you can see his left leg doesn t have a blood clot but his right legs does. It is suppose to look
identical to his left legs but because he has the sickle cell anemia disease his right leg has gotten so
much bigger. This photo was taking 3 years ago. I don t have a current photo as of yet but his leg but

Cultural Wars In America
Prevalence of cultural wars has been in societies having individuals who have different beliefs,
cultural settings and more specifically a way of life. American society at the moment has experienced
a lot of cultural wars, as seen in recent disputes over certain issues such as marriage of the same sex
and abortion. To have a good explanation to the aliens, it is necessary to understand historical aspect
and give an assessment of how the differences came about together with their effect on the perception
of significant national issues. For United Kingdom and United States, it has been traced that cultural
wars is due to different views of traditionalists and liberalists. Basically the two groups have been

Some of the key denominations offered support to the movements in terms of finances and intellectual
support, leaders of these churches were great speakers and they delivered a lot of inspiration to the
struggle of civil rights. Black churches also played a critical role in bringing together many of those
who supported the movement (Corbett 242). It is evident that Christianity contributed heavily to
fighting for freedom in the era of Civil Rights Movement. During the time, there was freedom of
religion in United States and this formed the basis of seeking for independence. There is close
association between having freedom to religion and attaining liberty in general. Christianity and the
church was a significant symbol for those fighting for freedom. The church acted as a central point
where individuals could gather together and chat way forward on how they would attain freedom.
Leaders in church were in the front line in advocating for freedom to civil rights probably because of
their religious beliefs. The movement was motivated through the Christians beliefs that they were

Let s Play Ball
It was a smoldering day in the summer of 1932, and yet all the boys were out on the ball field. They
were playing a doubleheader that afternoon, and it was bottom of the ninth inning when they had to
stop the game. If we had some big fancy lights like them city boys we wouldn t have ta quit playin
whenever it gets dark out, complained Jimmy as he kicked up some dirt off the field. Yeah, well it s
kinda hard to do that when we ain t got no electricity out here, his brother Noah replied solemly. The
worst part is that we were actually winnin for once Jimmy! The boys went home dissapointed that
night after coming so close to their first win this year. Momma we re home! The boys shouted together
as they walked through the front door. They made their way to the kitchen where they knew dinner
would be waiting for them. Jimmy and Noah sat down at the table and instantly started shoving food
in their mouths, practically inhaling it. How was your day boys? Their mother asked with enthusiasm
all over her face. She genuinely loved hearing about their games. Well momma we lost our first game
pretty bad, but I really think we woulda won the next one if we could ve finished the stupid thing. It s

The Federalist 10, By James Madison
In the Federalist 10, it is mostly about the constitution. It was written by James Madison, who oversaw
it. The main purpose of this article is faction. In politics, faction is people that group themselves.
Madison said that in the republic. Madison says that the number one common characteristic is the
largest people. The democracy would be possible because you couldn t create a majority group of
people that would have a lot in common. However now, democracy become too big in this scale.
People don t have much in common. That was the anti federalist concerned. And now Madison came
up by saying that just because there are larger group of people that doesn t mean they are right with
what they should say. Majorities are somewhat dangerous; they sometimes do foolish stuff. Also, they
somewhat not to be trusted. Now, the fact that the new constitution republic is covering. Democracy is
In addition, Madison defined that a faction is an amount of people, whether a popular or smaller, who
are combined and motivated by nearly mutual compulsion of desire, or of attention, opposing to the
privileges of further residents, or to the durable and collective benefits of the public. Also he explained
why the Framers took a representative democracy, a republic, slightly than a clean, straight,
democracy as the system of government for our new population. He defined a pure democracy as a
culture involving of a lesser quantity of nations, who gather and direct the rule in individual.

The Themes Of Hope And Freedom In The Shawshank Redemption
In the film, The Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont, symbolism was used to
highlight the main idea of holding onto hope. Darabont has effectively used different symbols
throughout the film to convey the themes of hope and freedom in Shawshank. Remember Red, hope is
a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. This quote said by Andy Dufresne
in a letter to Red shows that Shawshank was portrayed as a place of hopelessness at the start. But it
was through the use of these symbols, music, the library, and the birds, that made the viewer truly
understand how Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. Music
was used as a symbol in Shawshank to show the importance of ... Show more content on

This symbol was firstly shown used through Jake the crow. Jake was a very close friend of Brooks. He
had taken care of Jake ever since he had found it with an injured wing and nursed it back to health.
Jake was used as a symbol in the film to highlight the theme of hope, as Jake was found by Brooks
with an injured wing after it had fallen out of its nest. Jake shows that hope was still present even in
the darkest of times in life. Later on in the film, we see that Brooks was released from prison because
of parole. This lead to Brooks releasing Jake before leaving prison and represents Brooks letting go of
any hope he has of surviving life in the outside world. He symbolically looks for Jake while feeding
the birds in the park, thinking he just might show up and say hello. Sadly, he neither finds Jake nor
hope outside of prison. Brooks could not cope with the world outside of prison as he was
institutionalised and results in him committing suicide. Another instance of birds being used as a
symbol was after Andy escaped Shawshank prison. Red symbolizes Andy as being a caged bird in
prison when he says, Sometimes it makes me sad, though... Andy being gone. I have to remind myself
that some birds aren t meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away,
the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still, the place you live in is

The Empty Bowls Make-A-Thon
Bowl Making In November, I attended the Empty Bowls Make a Thon where I, along with others
from the college, made a bowl from clay. The finished bowls will be sold at a benefit dinner where
diners will pay for a meal and keep the bowl. All of the proceeds from the dinner will benefit the
Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. Empty bowls is an international fundraiser to help fight hunger.
Artists make bowls to donate to community organizations and the bowls are sold to raise money. Not
only did I have a new experience while creating my bowl, I was also able to help someone in need.
Shapiro believes a liberal education is beneficial for an individual and for a community. Social and
cultural experiences ought to give meaning to both individual and community lives. By participating
in the Empty Bowls Make a Thon, I was able to improve both myself and my community. Liberal
education encourages improving and broadening one s experiences, which I was able to do within
Westminster College. In a way, the bowl making also relates to The Good Samaritan. In the story, a
Samaritan happens upon an injured stranger and decides to take the time and help him. While it may

The Development Of The Roman Republic
The development of the Roman Republic is an overshadowed, yet important, piece of Roman
civilization. When asked about Rome many only relish in the grand military expansions or grand
virtues of the organized empire that was established. However, full of turmoil Rome was left to battle
its own structural demons. Romans based their identities off of unwritten morals and beliefs
established through tradition. The struggle within Rome is evident throughout the writings of Appian
and Rigsby. The development of the Twelve Tables brings forth the beginning of Rome s attempt to
establish order throughout the republic and balance both the cultural and economic beliefs. I will
prove that the Roman Republic used law in an effort to keep cultural traditions and establish economic
prosperity. Rome originally based the law systems on codes of unwritten law. This law based itself
upon basic morals and the idea to have an upstanding virtue as an individual. However, this legal
system soon came to an end due to the abuse and twisting of the law codes, so that those in power
could oppress the common people. A furor for an establishment of written law over took the plebians,
law that would establish a fair and opportunistic life. The Twelve Tables sought to shorten the gap
between plebians and patricians by setting a written law code, which embraced the moral beliefs all
romans shared. The moral values and unwritten law code are established evidently in the Twelve
Tables , When a person

Characteristics Of A Good Teacher Essay
Item One: Write a short essay reflecting on what characteristics make a good teacher, using your own
educational experiences. Without using names, identify the best and worst teacher that you have had
and support your choices with rationales.
What makes a good teacher? Ask this question to one hundred people and one would get one hundred
different answers. I have contemplated this question myself over the course of my twenty years in
education. The ideas that I have about the answer to this question are not the same ones that I had
twenty years ago. In my personal experience being a good teacher is something that I always wanted.
In recent years I have learned that teaching is not about being a good teacher but about striving each
day to be a better teacher than I was the day before.
A good teacher is one who knows her students and her students needs. The students are the reason that
the teacher is there. Classrooms are filled with students from differing backgrounds and families. As a
teacher, one should know her students by talking with them, asking them questions, learning their
likes and dislikes and making them feel safe and comfortable in the classroom. The classroom should
be a safe haven for students where the teacher creates an atmosphere where students feel comfortable
in being themselves and expressing their opinions.
Another characteristic of a good teacher is one who knows her subject and is able to extend that
knowledge to her students. Every

Analysis Of The Movie Evicted
Evicted is a novel that follows the story of families who struggle with losing their homes, and the
hurdles they have to jump to survive. The events that take place in this novel take place in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. According the American Housing Survey, 1991 2013, a majority of poor renting families
spend at least half their income on housing. Poverty is a major problem in America and the price of
housing doesn t help. The first family the novel introduces is the family of Arleen and her sons. Their
story starts with one of Arleen s sons, Jori, throwing a snowball at a car. The driver retaliated by
kicking down the door in their apartment. This led the eviction of Arleen and her family. As winter
was setting in, Arleen found an available room in Sherrena s building. Landlords have their own share
of troubles and the previous tenant had called a building inspector, which would have costed Sherrena
a lot of money. The only financially sound choice was to evict the tenant. The next person to come in
play is Lamar. Lamar is a 51 year old black Vietnam veteran who lives under the same landlord as
Arleen. He has prosthetics on both legs and was always in his wheelchair. He has two sons, but had
constant visits from his son s friends. Milwaukee used to have many good paying jobs up until the late
20th century. Many of the plants from wartime were closed done due to the bosses searching for cheap
labor. In the 1980s Milwaukee was a center of deindustrialization. To top it off,

Dan Ariely s Predictably Irrational By Dan Ariely
Dan Ariely, the author of «Predictably Irrational», conducted a comprehensive research related to
human behaviour and its influence on our decision making. In the seventh chapter of the book, Dan
explains why people overvalue their possessions and how this overestimation hinders our life. He
considers that our perspectives can be changed dramatically due to overvaluing what we have and
gives several instances of proving his thoughts.
The first example is the experiment at Duke University where students should spend an enormous
amount of time in tents to get a ticket for a basketball game. Dan Ariely called ticketholders and those
who did not get any ticket and asked them about the price at which they were willing to sell this ticket
or pay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People generally are not concerned about this problem because they cannot sometimes distinguish it.
Dan Ariely presented the extensive research to explain to people how the overvaluing of what we have
complicates rational decision making about our possessions. The examples appeared in the chapter
help in revealing the interesting aspects of human behavior related to the ownership. People may find
several instances relatable because all of them reflect our situations in life. The author provides the
broad explanations about why overvaluing influences on our decision making. He makes it easier for
us to understand how ownership can dramatically alter our perspectives.
Summarizing all above mentioned it seems that the chapter is managed appropriately to make the
main issue clear for the readers. Dan Ariely raises the problem of overvaluing to warn people about its
danger that can disturb their life. He covers the whole topic by providing the comprehensive instances
and answering the central questions related to the problem. The chapter clarifies how the issue of

Similarly, Putnam (1995) argues that civic engagement generates in the community a sense of

Designing Of Plan Layout And Architecture Of House
CHAPTER:1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Brief Introduction: Now a days as development of buildings is
increasing and there is demand of designing of plan layout and architecture of house. Now sometimes
after the design is ready and house is build the client is not satisfied with the work as there is miss
interaction between designing and understanding of plan layout. Even contractors get confuse while
investing in big society just by looking at planning; like if the outcome of construction does not go as
good as design. People even get confuse while selecting the texture and colour of the houses they want
to build. To deal with these issues, recent research area projects includes few closely related areas of
computer discipline like Virtual Reality Architecture. Virtual Reality is a powerful new technology
with great opportunity to help contractors and architect for making their presentation of plan layout
better. This project focus on real time experience. User can view model of their property in virtual

Hegemonic Masculinity And Domestic Violence
The media produces double standards by representing the act of domestic violence among athletes
differently based on the gender of the perpetrator or person committing the crime. Hegemonic
masculinity can best be described as the dominant, privileged, and often invisible category of men at
any point in history. In gender studies, hegemonic masculinity refers to the belief in the existence of a
culturally normative ideal of male behavior. Hegemonic masculinity posits that society strongly
encourages men to embody this kind of masculinity. Hegemonic masculinity is said to be marked by a
tendency for the male to dominate other males and subordinate females. A case can be made for
domestic violence cases in sports. Domestic violence can be used as a way for a male to show his
dominance over females and show other males not to mess with them. Men may come off as more
masculine if they beat on another girl. For females in sports it has been said that a more masculine
side is being brought out through competition. Even though I believe that domestic violence is
portrayed differently compared to male cases, females show their masculinity in different ways.
Hegemonic masculinity can be shown in females and when they use their anger in a violent way it is a
way to show that they can dominate other male or females and make them seem more superior
compared to other around them. In my paper I will be looking at how media effects domestic violence
and how it portrayed differently.

Scottsboro: an American Tragedy, there are great examples of bystanders being innocent. Bystanders
are always innocent. They do no harm, but watch civil injustice, which is not our place to correct. One
example of this is from the movie, Scottsboro: An American Tragedy. In the movie, based on true
events, nine black men are accused of something much greater when all they did was watch. What

Comparing The Differences Between The Outsiders, By...
The outsiders The movie The Outsiders was produced in 1983 by director Francis Ford Coppola, the
book came out in 1967 published by S. E. Hinton. It is found under young adult fiction and crime
film/ teen film. This book is about to rival gangs the greasers and the sos. The greasers are a group of
lower class boys who come from bad homes. They rely on only each other for support and friendship.
On the other hand, the sos are a group of upper class kids who get everything they want they don t
really ever hear the word no. They own nice things and come from nice fancy houses with nice cars
and lots of money. The book is very different from the movie because certain scenes are cut out and
some scenes and words exchanged between characters are altered. The first difference between the
movie and the book is in the movie Darry pushed Ponyboy during an argument about why Ponyboy
got home so late. In the book, after Ponyboy returns home late Darry is furious and slaps Ponyboy,
Ponyboy runs and finds Johnny in hopes of running away. But in the movie Darry pushes Ponyboy
instead of slapping him, Ponyboy was already tired of how Darry picks on him all the time. So when
Darry pushes him it sets him over the edge. This was an effective change because in the movie when
the couch fell and it made the audience more mad at Darry. In the book that never happened so it wasn
t as dramatic and entertaining. Therefore the push was much more significant than the slap. The
second difference

Impressionism; Post-Impressionism Essay
Impressionism
Impressionism as an historical art period is best described as a shift in thinking and focus. This
paradigm shift, away from realism and toward individualism, began a centuries long transformation of
self expression in art as a whole. Impressionism is generally considered a French movement and is
typically defined as spanning from approximately 1867 to 1886. Impressionism is best embodied by
and was perhaps initiated by Claud Monet in such world renowned works as Impressions: soleil levant
which lent its name to the style and subsequently the art period as a whole.
Impressionism in its simplest form is characterized as an artist s impression of an actual scene, using

And, much like impressionism had done in its early years, expounded upon what was considered
standard or acceptable subject matter.
Post Impressionism is generally considered as having begun at sometime around 1880 and continuing
even until now (as technically all forms/movements of art do). Perhaps the most easily recognizable
post impressionist art piece would be Van Gogh s Starry Night , crafted by the eccentric artist in 1889.
What Monet was to Impressionism Van Gogh became to post impressionism; stand outs amongst
many artists who longed to break free of the traditionalist view of art as a primarily linear form.
Irrevocably Connected
Beyond the simple fact that one (post impressionism) cannot have existed without the other
(impressionism) the revolutionary technique shared by both movements; small, generally circular or
curved strokes, brilliant colors, use of light, and subject matter that reached beyond the traditional
scope ties them together in a unique and easily identifiable manner. One cannot view Monet s
Impressions: soleil levant and Van Gogh s Starry Night without instantly seeing the undeniable
similarities; both artists use of light and deliberate brush strokes leave the viewer with little doubt
about the artistic movements from which they came. The differences in the movements actually stem
from a more sociological standpoint; whereas impressionists were a tight knit fraternity bound

PRF or Anitua s PRGF; leucocyte and platelet rich plasma (L PRP), such as Curasan, Regen, Plateltex,
SmartPReP, PCCS, Magellan or GPS PRP; pure plaletet rich fibrin (P PRF), such as Fibrinet and
leucocyte and platelet rich fibrin (L PRF), such as Choukroun s PRF. This classification helps to
analyse the successes and failures that have occurred so far in oral surgery, and direct research towards
further applications of these technologies in daily clinical practise. [14 16]
PLATELET RICH FIBRIN:
Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) is an autologous biomaterial which is the second generation of platelet
concentrates. It is the successor of platelet rich plasma (PRP), having multiple benefits [17]. The
benefits of working with PRF are quicker preparation, availability for every patient and minimal
trauma. Several works related to the issue of the use of PRP and PRF in periodontal, oral,
maxillofacial and plastic surgery as well as in otorhinolaryngology have been published [18]. Some of
the application in oral and maxillofacial are: sinus augmentation after maxillary sinus floor

According to Stanhope and Lancaster (2008) society is composed of many types of communities such
as neighborhood and face to face communities in which interactions occur within a specific
geographical area. Communities not limited to geographical areas are known as special interest or
resource communities. These types of communities share general interest, for example, environmental
concerns, or political views. Community Health Community health identifies common needs in the
community and provides solutions for modifying behaviors for community members. According to
Stanhope and Lancaster (2008, p. 347) the term community health is the meeting of collective needs
by identifying problems and managing behaviors within the community itself and between the
community and the larger society. According to Stanhope and Lancaster (2008) community health
involves biological, emotional, and social aspects. The biological aspects are measured in terms of
morbidity and mortality rates, life expectancy indexes, and risk factor profiles (Stanhope Lancaster,
3008, p. 345). Emotional aspects are measured in terms of mental health, while crime rates and levels
of function define the social aspects (Stanhope Lancaster, 2008). Community structure is defined in
terms of services and resources available to the members,

Gender And Sexual Identity In Shakespeare s Novel,...
Over the course of the summer I read Jeffrey Eugenides novel, Middlesex. The novel depicted the
journey of Cal, the narrator, as he struggled with his gender and sexual identity. I found Eugenides use
of first person narration compelling because it allowed me to feel a greater connection to Cal, the
narrator. Throughout the novel he provided insight on his experiences, while also telling the tale of his
family s immigration to Detroit, Michigan. By relaying stories of Desdemona and Lefty s early
experiences in Smyrna and America I felt as though I gained a deeper understanding of Cal and his
family. However, because he was not present during these events, I felt conflicted over whether or not
he was a trustworthy, authoritative narrator. He simply retold what information he had been fed, thus I
felt he lacked ethos and credibility. Additionally, I was intrigued by the various settings throughout the
novel and felt they added to the overall appeal and intrigue of the plot. In the novel Cal described the
polarization and hatred of two opposing social groups in both Smyrna and Detroit: in Smyrna the
Greeks versus the Turks and in Detroit the blacks versus the whites. This subtle juxtaposition was
alluring and allowed for Eugenides to develop underlying conflicts different than the conflicts that Cal
and his family struggled with. I interpreted this foil as a means by which Eugenides added his own
social commentary to the novel, as he illustrated that regardless of the

Comparison Of Good Country People And A Good Man Is Hard...
In both Good Country People and A Good Man is Hard to Find the definition of good is somewhat
skewed, when I read the stories the people who are depicted as good are actually quite bad. In Good
Country People , the sheer fictional elements such as Hulga having a wooden leg only for it to be
stolen by a Bible salesman with a nasty habit of stealing from others on his travels is an interesting
development that defines Hulga s revelation in such that keeps the reader satisfied. Such elements also
show that no matter the person, however they are, can be capable of evil and that not everyone by
appearance is as they seem. To add on to this, both Pointer coming across as a well raised Christian
and Hulga s mother always being so conscious and judgmental of her choices further strengthen that
ugliness in such terms as one being grotesque stems from the nature of a person for who they are as an
individual. Lord. He bored me to death but he was so sincere and genuine I couldn t be rude to him.
He was just good country people, you know just the salt of the earth. (441) I believe that this quotation
reveals how much people are willing to assume that people are good just by the way the look and act.

Source: own spss computation, 2017
According to the finding in the above table the regression equation was
Y = 1.381+ 0.168 X1 + 0.389 X2+ 0.636X3 + 0.304X4
Where Y is the dependent variable (effectiveness of inventory management), X1 is procurement
procedure, X2 is Funding, X3 is the staff skill X4 is Documentation.
The strength of each predictor (independent) variable influence on the dependent variable can be
investigated via standardized Beta coefficient. Hence, the regression coefficient explain the average
amount of change in dependent variable that caused by a unit of change in the independent variable.
Therefore, as shown the table above fund is the most contributing factor in the prediction of
effectiveness of inventory management in Este woreda public sector with beta value 0.359 followed
by a staff skill with the beta value of 0.287. The other two predictors, in their descending order of

Brueghel s Icarus
Lines on Brueghel s Icarus
Michael Hamburger uses painting of Breughel s Icarus as a background for his poem, Lines on
Brueghel s Icarus . To fully understand the purpose of this poem, the painting by Brueghel and myth
of Icarus should be studied beforehand. By describing the visuals in the beginning, using specific
diction, and making a noticeable attitude shift, Hamburger paints a mental picture of the fateful,
unnoticed fall of Icarus.
In the first stanza, the stage is set with the types of people who were in close proximity of the fallen
Icarus: the ploughman, fisherman, and the sailor. However, none succeeded in recognizing the rise and
descent of Icarus as they were absorbed in their own tasks, immersed in their own thoughts. The
ploughman ploughs, the fisherman dreams of fish;/ Aloft, the sailor . Hearing the wings of the hero,
the shepherd was the sole being that took note of the strange phenomenon above him. Yet, uncertain to
whom the wings belonged to, he labeled them as a pair of eagle wings. To the civilians, Icarus death
was insignificant, as their lives went on without any change. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Evaluating Health Behaviors And Health Outcomes Associated...
My research project is primarily focused on examining the uses of Nightscout and evaluating changes
in health behaviors and health outcomes associated with its use on patients in managing their diabetes.
Nightscout is a do it yourself (DIY) mobile technology system developed by patients and caregivers to
monitor blood glucose levels remotely using Cloud technology. We are interested in studying
Nightscout because it is a new patient created innovation, and is the first successful DIY system to
allow patients and caregivers remote access to data, such as blood glucose levels, through mobile
technology. Since Nightscout is still in the earliest stages of development, we focused on studying the
community of Nightscout users for issues such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Online communities, such as CGM in the Cloud Facebook group, are a source of support for many
patients and caregivers in overcoming the challenges of managing diabetes.4 The CGM in the Cloud
Facebook group is a virtual community of family members and patients using Nightscout.3 The
Nightscout project began in February 2013, when the parent, a software programmer, of a newly
diagnosed patient started using a continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS or CGM) to monitor
his son s glucose levels.3 Since the foundation of Nightscout in 2013, the Facebook page has gained
over 20,000 members. The Nightscout Project is a patient designed, technology driven collaborative
health innovation, however, it s a DIY device not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA), as a result it faces a number of legal challenges. 3 During the developmental stage of
Nightscout, there were many potential points of technical failure in the hardware and software system,
including the loss of glucose data or error in medical decisions. During these times, the average, non
technical patient and caregiver relied heavily on online peer support groups, such as the CGM in the

Relationships, Group Cohesion, Team Norms, And Strength
Introduction:
Throughout organizational behaviors we learned a lot about developing relationships, group cohesion,
and team norms / values. On October 6 and November 17, we worked together in our teams to
complete different activates with different instructions. For our first challenge we had to build a tower
using objects that we put into a trash bag. We were judged on Beauty, Height, and strength. We had a
certain time frame to build our tours. On November 17 we were paired up with a different team and
instructed to build a bridge. Each team had to start from their own sides and meet in the middle. The
challenge was that only two team members from each side could talk to each other and communicate
about our ideas for constructing the bridge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My name was picked out of a cup so I was the only person who could talk to the other leader in group
3 who was Anh. Anh and I have worked with each other in the past so we already had a past
relationship. What was really unique was that the leader of the team was randomly picked randomly
so I believe this made the task a little more challenging for each group.
I really liked this exercise because we had put our trust into the other group that we would build the
best bridge and try and win. The first category of trust (Appendix C) is how much confidence you
have you have in other s competence and abilities (Cohen et al, pg. 223) I had a past relationship with
Anh so it was easy for me to trust her because I know she is a very hard worker and she always got her
work don based on the past relationship. I also worked with some of the members in her group so I felt
confident that my team and I could trust them to get things done. The others team judgement was very
sounds (Cohen et al, pg. 233) . They won the previous contest so it was easy for us to trust that there
judgement was good. My team trusted Anh and her team because we all had a common goal of
winning the bridge challenge. We were working together and collaborating well together. Anh and her
team were in no way trying to harm our welfare (Cohen et al, pg. 233). Both teams collaborated and
feel through with what we said we were going to do. We

Moral Panic Examples
A moral panic is an event that has the potential to take place all over the world and is not restricted by
time, culture or a specific religion (Luce, 2012: 399). When these panics occur, there are various
players involved. For example there are those whose actions result in the initiation of the panic, as
well those who take advantage of these actions, such as the media in various ways such as images so
as to possibly benefit themselves or draw negative attention in the direction of a certain group. In my
essay I am going to discuss what a moral panic actually is and carefully examine an example of a
moral panic that has taken place in society such as the HIV/Aids case so as to try and understand the
underlying nature of the people involved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people who initially knew about it were distressed as they did not know how it was contracted or
how to prevent themselves from falling victim to it and medical researchers had made little progress in
their analysis of the virus at that time. Once the media became aware of HIV s existence, blame was
almost immediately placed in the direction of the homosexual community as they were the first ones
to be discovered as having contracted the virus and a large number of the reported cases were
originally from homosexuals (Luce, 2013: 400). Soon enough, an impression was given in many
newspapers and by the press that the virus was somehow a form of punishment cast upon that group
by God for living the sort of lifestyle that was considered as morally wrong by society as well as
various religions, and this subsequently also created a moral panic around homosexuality, even though
the virus was soon discovered to also be contracted by the use of infected needles as well as
heterosexual unprotected intercourse but that discovery was disregarded by the media. It was also
revealed that most of the data that was released

Athletic Training History
I have always loved sports ever since I was a little kid. Some of my earliest memories are of playing
soccer with my friends on a wet, cold spring day or hitting a ball off of a tee and feeling like it went a
mile, when in reality it only went about fifty feet. Even to this day I still can never get enough of
sports. I get about four weeks off out of the entire year where I m not technically in a sport, but I m
still always practicing and trying to get better because that s the only way I know. I love everything
about sports: the friendships, the competition, the passion, the atmosphere, the unity. Sports are one of
my true loves and they consume my life. It is this strong desire that I have for sports that has driven

This was how it was for a general athletic trainer in the beginning but over time the field gained more
and more credibility and in the 1930 s a group of athletic trainers came together to try and form an
organization (Evolution of Athletic). This organization was designed to share different practices from
different areas of the world and nation. Though shortly after the beginning of World War II the
organization fell apart with the enlistment of many men into the army to serve (Evolution of Athletic).
After the war had ended, athletic trainers began to return to work and succeeded in creating the
National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) in 1950 (NATA.org). The NATA was created by a
group of two hundred ambitious athletic trainers that met in Kansas City, Missouri to talk about the
need for professional standards and appropriate recognition (NATA.org). This set of standards
presented by the NATA provided athletic trainers across the country with professionalism, education,
research, practice settings and certifications for them to operate by (NATA.org). In 1970, the NATA
Certification Committee was put in place to oversee the first certification exams (Evolution of
Athletic). By 1982, the NATA had reached an agreement with colleges on a curriculum for college
students to earn a bachelor s and master s degree in athletic training (Jenkins). The Board of
Certification was established to provide a certification program for entry level athletic trainers to
reassure that all certified athletic trainers were educated and professional before they began their
career (Evolution of Athletic). In 1990, athletic training was recognized as an allied health care
professional by the American Medical Association (AMA) (Evolution of

Sweatshops Is Bad
Out of Bad Comes Good
A sweatshop is a factory where workers receive low wages while being forced to work in poor
environments. In general, these workshops produce an abundant amount of the clothing that we wear
everyday. However, few acknowledge the act of sweatshop labor, since it is rarely shown to the public
eye. Ironically, many popular fashion brands that we buy from all recieve clothes that are made in
sweatshops. While sweatshop workers are treated unfairly in the workplace, fast fashion provides
them with jobs and it provides us with the clothing that we constantly demand for. To understand the
topic of sweatshop labor, we must recognize the effects of this controversial working system.
First, we have to consider the conditions that

They were playing a doubleheader that afternoon, and it was bottom of the ninth inning when they had to stop the game. If we had some big fancy lights like them city boys we wouldn t have ta quit playin whenever it gets dark out, complained Jimmy as he kicked up some dirt off the field. Yeah, well it s kinda hard to do that when we ain t got no electricity out here, his brother Noah replied solemly. The worst part is that we were actually winnin for once Jimmy! The boys went home dissapointed that night after coming so close to their first win this year. Momma we re home! The boys shouted together as they walked through the front door. They made their way to the kitchen where they knew dinner would be waiting for them. Jimmy and Noah sat down at the table and instantly started shoving food in their mouths, practically inhaling it. How was your day boys? Their mother asked with enthusiasm all over her face. She genuinely loved hearing about their games. Well momma we lost our first game pretty bad, but I really think we woulda won the next one if we could ve finished the stupid thing. The democracy would be possible because you couldn t create a majority group of people that would have a lot in common. However now, democracy become too big in this scale. People don t have much in common. That was the anti federalist concerned. • 8. The Themes Of Hope And Freedom In The Shawshank Redemption In the film, The Shawshank Redemption directed by Frank Darabont, symbolism was used to highlight the main idea of holding onto hope. Darabont has effectively used different symbols throughout the film to convey the themes of hope and freedom in Shawshank. Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. This quote said by Andy Dufresne in a letter to Red shows that Shawshank was portrayed as a place of hopelessness at the start. But it was through the use of these symbols, music, the library, and the birds, that made the viewer truly understand how Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. Jake was a very close friend of Brooks. He had taken care of Jake ever since he had found it with an injured wing and nursed it back to health. Jake was used as a symbol in the film to highlight the theme of hope, as Jake was found by Brooks with an injured wing after it had fallen out of its nest. Jake shows that hope was still present even in the darkest of times in life. Later on in the film, we see that Brooks was released from prison because of parole. This lead to Brooks releasing Jake before leaving prison and represents Brooks letting go of any hope he has of surviving life in the outside world. He symbolically looks for Jake while feeding the birds in the park, thinking he just might show up and say hello. Sadly, he neither finds Jake nor hope outside of prison. Brooks could not cope with the world outside of prison as he was institutionalised and results in him committing suicide. Another instance of birds being used as a symbol was after Andy escaped Shawshank prison. Red symbolizes Andy as being a caged bird in prison when he says, Sometimes it makes me sad, though... The finished bowls will be sold at a benefit dinner where diners will pay for a meal and keep the bowl. All of the proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. Empty bowls is an international fundraiser to help fight hunger. Artists make bowls to donate to community organizations and the bowls are sold to raise money. Not only did I have a new experience while creating my bowl, I was also able to help someone in need. Shapiro believes a liberal education is beneficial for an individual and for a community. Social and cultural experiences ought to give meaning to both individual and community lives. By participating in the Empty Bowls Make a Thon, I was able to improve both myself and my community. • 10. The Development Of The Roman Republic The development of the Roman Republic is an overshadowed, yet important, piece of Roman civilization. When asked about Rome many only relish in the grand military expansions or grand virtues of the organized empire that was established. However, full of turmoil Rome was left to battle its own structural demons. Romans based their identities off of unwritten morals and beliefs established through tradition. The struggle within Rome is evident throughout the writings of Appian and Rigsby. The development of the Twelve Tables brings forth the beginning of Rome s attempt to establish order throughout the republic and balance both the cultural and economic beliefs. I will prove that the Roman Republic used law in an effort to keep cultural traditions and establish economic prosperity. Rome originally based the law systems on codes of unwritten law. This law based itself upon basic morals and the idea to have an upstanding virtue as an individual. However, this legal system soon came to an end due to the abuse and twisting of the law codes, so that those in power could oppress the common people. A furor for an establishment of written law over took the plebians, law that would establish a fair and opportunistic life. The Twelve Tables sought to shorten the gap between plebians and patricians by setting a written law code, which embraced the moral beliefs all romans shared. The moral values and unwritten law code are established evidently in the Twelve Tables , When a person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Characteristics Of A Good Teacher Essay Item One: Write a short essay reflecting on what characteristics make a good teacher, using your own educational experiences. Without using names, identify the best and worst teacher that you have had and support your choices with rationales. What makes a good teacher? Ask this question to one hundred people and one would get one hundred different answers. I have contemplated this question myself over the course of my twenty years in education. The ideas that I have about the answer to this question are not the same ones that I had twenty years ago. In my personal experience being a good teacher is something that I always wanted. In recent years I have learned that teaching is not about being a good teacher but about striving each day to be a better teacher than I was the day before. A good teacher is one who knows her students and her students needs. The students are the reason that the teacher is there. Classrooms are filled with students from differing backgrounds and families. As a teacher, one should know her students by talking with them, asking them questions, learning their likes and dislikes and making them feel safe and comfortable in the classroom. The classroom should be a safe haven for students where the teacher creates an atmosphere where students feel comfortable in being themselves and expressing their opinions. Another characteristic of a good teacher is one who knows her subject and is able to extend that knowledge to her students. Every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Analysis Of The Movie Evicted Evicted is a novel that follows the story of families who struggle with losing their homes, and the hurdles they have to jump to survive. The events that take place in this novel take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. According the American Housing Survey, 1991 2013, a majority of poor renting families spend at least half their income on housing. Poverty is a major problem in America and the price of housing doesn t help. The first family the novel introduces is the family of Arleen and her sons. Their story starts with one of Arleen s sons, Jori, throwing a snowball at a car. The driver retaliated by kicking down the door in their apartment. This led the eviction of Arleen and her family. As winter was setting in, Arleen found an available room in Sherrena s building. Landlords have their own share of troubles and the previous tenant had called a building inspector, which would have costed Sherrena a lot of money. The only financially sound choice was to evict the tenant. The next person to come in play is Lamar. Lamar is a 51 year old black Vietnam veteran who lives under the same landlord as Arleen. He has prosthetics on both legs and was always in his wheelchair. He has two sons, but had constant visits from his son s friends. Milwaukee used to have many good paying jobs up until the late 20th century. Many of the plants from wartime were closed done due to the bosses searching for cheap labor. In the seventh chapter of the book, Dan explains why people overvalue their possessions and how this overestimation hinders our life. He considers that our perspectives can be changed dramatically due to overvaluing what we have and gives several instances of proving his thoughts. The first example is the experiment at Duke University where students should spend an enormous amount of time in tents to get a ticket for a basketball game. Dan Ariely called ticketholders and those who did not get any ticket and asked them about the price at which they were willing to sell this ticket or pay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People generally are not concerned about this problem because they cannot sometimes distinguish it. Dan Ariely presented the extensive research to explain to people how the overvaluing of what we have complicates rational decision making about our possessions. The examples appeared in the chapter help in revealing the interesting aspects of human behavior related to the ownership. People may find several instances relatable because all of them reflect our situations in life. The author provides the broad explanations about why overvaluing influences on our decision making. He makes it easier for us to understand how ownership can dramatically alter our perspectives. Summarizing all above mentioned it seems that the chapter is managed appropriately to make the main issue clear for the readers. Dan Ariely raises the problem of overvaluing to warn people about its danger that can disturb their life. He covers the whole topic by providing the comprehensive instances and answering the central questions related to the problem. The chapter clarifies how the issue of ... • 17. Hegemonic Masculinity And Domestic Violence The media produces double standards by representing the act of domestic violence among athletes differently based on the gender of the perpetrator or person committing the crime. Hegemonic masculinity can best be described as the dominant, privileged, and often invisible category of men at any point in history. In gender studies, hegemonic masculinity refers to the belief in the existence of a culturally normative ideal of male behavior. Hegemonic masculinity posits that society strongly encourages men to embody this kind of masculinity. Hegemonic masculinity is said to be marked by a tendency for the male to dominate other males and subordinate females. A case can be made for domestic violence cases in sports. Domestic violence can be used as a way for a male to show his dominance over females and show other males not to mess with them. Men may come off as more masculine if they beat on another girl. For females in sports it has been said that a more masculine side is being brought out through competition. Even though I believe that domestic violence is portrayed differently compared to male cases, females show their masculinity in different ways. Hegemonic masculinity can be shown in females and when they use their anger in a violent way it is a way to show that they can dominate other male or females and make them seem more superior compared to other around them. In my paper I will be looking at how media effects domestic violence and how it portrayed differently. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Comparing The Differences Between The Outsiders, By... The outsiders The movie The Outsiders was produced in 1983 by director Francis Ford Coppola, the book came out in 1967 published by S. E. Hinton. It is found under young adult fiction and crime film/ teen film. This book is about to rival gangs the greasers and the sos. The greasers are a group of lower class boys who come from bad homes. They rely on only each other for support and friendship. On the other hand, the sos are a group of upper class kids who get everything they want they don t really ever hear the word no. They own nice things and come from nice fancy houses with nice cars and lots of money. The book is very different from the movie because certain scenes are cut out and some scenes and words exchanged between characters are altered. The first difference between the movie and the book is in the movie Darry pushed Ponyboy during an argument about why Ponyboy got home so late. In the book, after Ponyboy returns home late Darry is furious and slaps Ponyboy, Ponyboy runs and finds Johnny in hopes of running away. But in the movie Darry pushes Ponyboy instead of slapping him, Ponyboy was already tired of how Darry picks on him all the time. So when Darry pushes him it sets him over the edge. This was an effective change because in the movie when the couch fell and it made the audience more mad at Darry. In the book that never happened so it wasn t as dramatic and entertaining. This paradigm shift, away from realism and toward individualism, began a centuries long transformation of self expression in art as a whole. Impressionism is generally considered a French movement and is typically defined as spanning from approximately 1867 to 1886. Impressionism is best embodied by and was perhaps initiated by Claud Monet in such world renowned works as Impressions: soleil levant which lent its name to the style and subsequently the art period as a whole. Post Impressionism is generally considered as having begun at sometime around 1880 and continuing even until now (as technically all forms/movements of art do). Perhaps the most easily recognizable post impressionist art piece would be Van Gogh s Starry Night , crafted by the eccentric artist in 1889. What Monet was to Impressionism Van Gogh became to post impressionism; stand outs amongst many artists who longed to break free of the traditionalist view of art as a primarily linear form. Irrevocably Connected Beyond the simple fact that one (post impressionism) cannot have existed without the other (impressionism) the revolutionary technique shared by both movements; small, generally circular or curved strokes, brilliant colors, use of light, and subject matter that reached beyond the traditional scope ties them together in a unique and easily identifiable manner. One cannot view Monet s Impressions: soleil levant and Van Gogh s Starry Night without instantly seeing the undeniable similarities; both artists use of light and deliberate brush strokes leave the viewer with little doubt about the artistic movements from which they came. • 23. Gender And Sexual Identity In Shakespeare s Novel,... Over the course of the summer I read Jeffrey Eugenides novel, Middlesex. The novel depicted the journey of Cal, the narrator, as he struggled with his gender and sexual identity. I found Eugenides use of first person narration compelling because it allowed me to feel a greater connection to Cal, the narrator. Throughout the novel he provided insight on his experiences, while also telling the tale of his family s immigration to Detroit, Michigan. By relaying stories of Desdemona and Lefty s early experiences in Smyrna and America I felt as though I gained a deeper understanding of Cal and his family. However, because he was not present during these events, I felt conflicted over whether or not he was a trustworthy, authoritative narrator. He simply retold what information he had been fed, thus I felt he lacked ethos and credibility. Additionally, I was intrigued by the various settings throughout the novel and felt they added to the overall appeal and intrigue of the plot. In the novel Cal described the polarization and hatred of two opposing social groups in both Smyrna and Detroit: in Smyrna the Greeks versus the Turks and in Detroit the blacks versus the whites. This subtle juxtaposition was alluring and allowed for Eugenides to develop underlying conflicts different than the conflicts that Cal and his family struggled with. I interpreted this foil as a means by which Eugenides added his own social commentary to the novel, as he illustrated that regardless of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In both Good Country People and A Good Man is Hard to Find the definition of good is somewhat skewed, when I read the stories the people who are depicted as good are actually quite bad. In Good Country People , the sheer fictional elements such as Hulga having a wooden leg only for it to be stolen by a Bible salesman with a nasty habit of stealing from others on his travels is an interesting development that defines Hulga s revelation in such that keeps the reader satisfied. Such elements also show that no matter the person, however they are, can be capable of evil and that not everyone by appearance is as they seem.
