Manual Appointments Research Paper
Manual Appointments This method of scheduling patients is much older or as I like to call it
old school. Before all of this new advance technology was ever around, the medical office was
using this method for scheduling appointments. This method was called pen to paper. It consist of
much time and alot of stress. Due to the fact that if a single document could had been lost or
misplaced it had to be redone again. This method also had a book where the appointments were
writing in called a appointment book, or a calendar depending on the office and how the physican
like to work with. Now in days majority of the medical office uses modern technology, but there are
quite a few that still believe in this old method. Computerized appointments This

Harmful Effects Of Alcohol On The Liver
Harmful effects of alcohol on the liver
The liver is the body s largest solid organ. Receives about 1.5 liters of blood per minute and is
involved in three important vital functions essential for our body: the purification, synthesis and
storage. The liver recovers and transforms many toxic to render them harmless before disposal.
Destroys red blood cells and white blood cell aging and certain bacteria in the blood. Destroy the
waste produced by the body naturally, like ammonia, as also those who consume alcohol. The liver
is involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids (cholesterol, triglycerides) and proteins
(albumin). Plays an essential role in the production of clotting factors that avoid bleeding.
Involved in the production and secretion of bile (600 to 1200 ml per day) and concentrated
stored in the gallbladder. It stores fat soluble vitamins (A, D, KE) and glycogen. Thus, the
energy stored in the form of sugar and made available to the agency if needed. The liver is one
of the most important organs of our body. It is a vital organ. The liver regulates the blood levels
of most chemical compounds and excretes a product called bile, which helps remove waste
products from the liver. All the blood leaving the stomach and intestines passes through the liver.
The liver processes this blood and breaks down the nutrients and drugs in easier to use for the rest
of the body forms. There are more than 500 vital functions related to the liver. Among the most

Homosexuality In Canadian Society
Homosexuality
Families were worried that if their child was exposed to homosexuality, or were themselves gay,
that their morals would be tarnished and they would embark towards promiscuous behaviour.
Books were given to teens providing advice on how to reach normality . They were trying to scare
kids into believing that heterosexuality was the only option and anything otherwise was not normal.
They also wanted to guilt the children into believing that being gay would not only ostracize
yourself, but would also shame your family. Families would tell their children that they needed to
be heterosexual to defend Canada. They would also use examples from Canadian society as per
what would happen if they did end up gay. Examples like how the ... Show more content on

Men, women and children had to fit inside this nuclear family ideology. Communism was a major
factor in this family structure because it influenced the civil defence movement that gave
housewives new roles in society, while allowing the men to go out and work to be the
breadwinner. Children had to be censored from the world of communism so not to risk their
beliefs from being influenced. Then there was the pressure from the government telling the
families that it was being patriotic to follow the new social structure and if people did otherwise
they were seen as communist supporters. Lastly, there was the pressure that society put on each
other. The nuclear family was the accepted lifestyle and if you did not follow it, most people
would look down on you. Homosexuality is one of the best examples of this ostracization within
Canada during the Cold War. The roles were so clear cut and heterosexuality was deemed the only
lifestyle for Canadian citizens. With all that said, it is clear to see that during the Cold War threat of
nuclear warfare, communism, the governments and societal influence created new roles and
identities for everyone in

Persuasive Essay About Rugby
I believe that the old English sport, Rugby, should make it s big return in schools as it would help
spark a new passion for something that has faded away for almost 100 years since the last game
our country has ever won medals in this Olympic sport.
For years, Rugby has been a neglected sport in the United States until recently it is now the nation s
fastest growing sport with over 1.2 million registered participants across the country.
Rugby may not be that popular here in the United States of America as of now, but it is very
popular in Europe and some parts of Asia. Also, Rugby has been in a few major events like the
Olympics, making it an Olympic sport which was introduced into the Olympics in the year 1900,
until its unfortunate end in 1924 where our national rugby team had won gold ... Show more content

There are players that joined from the fear of the dangers of American football and saw rugby as a
safer alternative to football, despite the few changes that made rugby the modern version which is
played today.
Rugby has many similarities as differences with American football like the pads and referee
which was stated before. Some similarities between the two are the lines of scrummage or most
commonly known in the united states as the line of scrimmage, where the two teams are face to
face with each other, the difference in football is that the ball is thrown backwards and then
given to the quarterback which can be thrown forward. In rugby the player number 9 rolls the
ball in the scrum where 8 players bind onto each other and push forward so the team hook can
use their leg to swipe the ball back towards their team where they can pass to the outside players,
known as wings, and those players can run downfield and score a try. In rugby a scrum consists
of the 8 forwards, such as props, a hooker, locks, flanks, and the 8 man. They push each other
forward to gain the ball, when the ball is in possession they can pass the ball

The Supreme Court s 1954 Brown V. Board Of Education
The Supreme Court s 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision ending de jure segregation was a
watershed moment in American history. The hope was that by striking down state laws that
maintained racially segregated public schools, America would embark on a new course leading to
integrated public schools. The Court recognized the critical role that public schools play in shaping
American culture and promoting the well being of the nation. In addition to ensuring Constitutional
rights to equal protection under the law, the Brown decision paved a path for students to receive
educational services in integrated learning environments that reflect the diversity of American
society. In the immediate aftermath of the Brown decision, states across America

Hamlet s Soliloquy in Branagh s Adaptation
In contrast to previous film adaptations of Shakespeare that have appeared mostly as filmed stage
productions, Kenneth Branagh approaches his Shakespeare films in a style more reminiscent of
big budget Hollywood movies (Crowl 26). For his 1996 Hamlet adaptation, Branagh chose a very
different style from the predominantly dark and moody medieval settings of previous stage and
film productions. Crowl describes the film as a bright, bold mirror in stunning contrast to Olivier
s dark impressionist maze. (28). Moving the time period forward to the Victorian era, Branagh s

Evolution Vs Artificial Selection
I would like to respectfully comment that when you say There is a reason that the original genes
did not allow it to survive, it implies that the naturally occurring genetic information is
consciously directing the survival of the organism. Evolution is a natural process, and is not
perfect. What occurs naturally is not necessarily what is best for the organism. Genetic
modification is not much different from artificial selection, in which one chooses which organism
or organisms are to reproduce based upon one s desired traits of the offspring. Some common
examples are the domestication of a naturally occurring form of wheat to become the plump corn
we know today, and the breeding of wolves to become dogs. Humans were doing this even before

Summer and Smoke
Mr. Thomas Williams (Tennessee,) was born in Columbus, Mississippi to Cornelius Coffin and
Edwina Dankin Williams, March 26 1911. Thomas family moves to Missouri in 1918, and between
the years of 1929 and 1939 Tennessee attends three different universities. After having written his
first Blanche DuBois scene, from A Streetcar named Desire, in December of 1944, he took a few
months break and wrote his first draft of Summer and Smoke. As a result, the character Alma is
seen having a parallel to Blanche. Also in the year 1937, Tennessee s sister Rose is institutionalized
for schizophrenia. Typically patients with schizophrenia are at times progressive, at times
intermediate and can regress at anytime. They also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, October 6, 1948, interestingly enough, the play opened before it was eventually
published by New Directions on November 17, 1948. Also, Summer and Smoke was re written
and published in 1965 under the new title: The Eccentricities of a Nightingale, which was
eventually, by Dramatic Publishing s changed back to Summer and Smoke. Original scenic
design was created by Jo Meizner, who had created a Skeletonized view of John s office, and an
equally Victorian view on the right, and, in between the town square, presided over by the statue
of a kneeling Angel (Bordman.) Original stars of the show included Todd Andrews, as John, and
Katherine Balfour, as Alma. The production ran for only 100 performances, after being constantly
compared to and eventually replaced by A Streetcar named Desire. Part of the reason why critics
believe this show was so unsuccessful is because Margo Jones went about this blind eyed, and only
had the guide of Tennessee when she went to visit him, they
blame the poor outcome of this show on its poor staging and directing.
The London premiere of Summer and smoke opened April of 1952, at Circle and Square Theater,
starring Geraldine Paige and running for 356 performances, clearly this production was much better
received than the opening production in New York. Washington s Arena Stage and the

Impacts Of The Regional Trading Blocs
Since the World War II, the creation of regional economic blocs has become an essential political
remedy that gathers countries and nations rather than divide. Essentially, the creation of the
economic regional blocs aims to minimize the obstacles between nations that share the same
geographic border and to facilitate the circulations of goods and services. In fact, the regional
trading blocs differ in terms of political structure and economic objectives, but the rapidity of
trading goods and services within the different regions around the globe wouldn t be possible
without establishing unified political and economic units. For example, the European Union(EU) as
other regional blocs gathers different countries that share the same geographical borders and differ
in cultures, languages, and political systems. Actually, the differences and similarities between the
various political structures and economic objectives are due to numerous factors such as history,
culture, and the level of imports and exports to each country. However, the impacts of the regional
trading blocs have some disadvantages that have negative impacts on the local economies of the
regional blocs and on the global economy as well.
2.Regional economic integration
a)What is regional economic integration?
Regional integration is the combination of political and economic regulations and agreements
between two or more nation states. In fact, the main objective of regional integration is to

Good Leadership Skills
Leadership We see leaders around us everywhere. Regardless of what the profession or expertise
is, or what sort of an institution there is, leaders are required. There are many leadership
characteristics that come into play. In other words, not everyone has what it takes to be a good
leader. Surely, in school all of us are taught things like team work and good leadership skills,
leadership itself falls under a huge category. There are many models of leadership present that
serve to analyze and assess how much of the leadership qualities a person has in them.
Leadership changes are also seen in many schools as well. There is a change in not only roles,
but alterations are noted in relationship and responsibilities. There is change in not only the
roles, but the responsibilities and the relations are effected is well. It is seen that in this form of
leadership, there is less tendency of hierarchical within an organization. Servant leadership is
basically a set of leadership practices and the philosophies regarding leadership. Surely most of
us know what leadership really is. Leadership is seen simply as the accusation and exercise of
power for someone who is on top of the pyramid. This is the conventional and simple form of
leadership that we all know and love. Where on one hand there is the conventional form of
leadership, the servant leader model is the form where the needs and concerns of others are put
first. In this model, the needs and concerns of others are placed

Gene Sequencing And The Human Genome Project
Gene sequencing is a method that helps us to read the genetic code and to compare normal genes
with disease causing genes (Kratz, 2015). It is helpful to determine the precise order of the bases in
a DNA strand, and mostly used for genetic variation or mutation that might lead to a development of
a disease. This disease causing change can be a substitution, deletion or addition of a single base
pair (National Human Genome Research Institute, 2014). Since the human genome project has
completed its first draft in 2001, researchers are more keen to find out more about the human
genome, the variability of the gene sequences amongst humans, and the relationship between the
gene sequence variation to human health (Green et al., 2013). After a... Show more content on

Patents are used to protect the gene sequence worldwide where the patent owner considers there
will be a viable market in that area (Merz and Cho,2008).Patenting genes have become popular after
the human genome was complete and became more a topic that people debated about (Caulfield
and Gold, 2000). The patenting system in gene sequencing is important to discover new medicines
and other advances in healthcare (Nuffield Council on Bioethics, 2002). The European Society of
Human Genetics (ESHG) are looking for ways to develop the current patenting and licensing
system in order to make the public handle the situation in a well manner, respect to the current
legislation (European Journal of Human Genetics, 2008). Being quite a controversial topic there
are a number of ethical issues that arise from the society which will be discussed below.
Human dignity
Patenting gene sequences has been a topic that has been debated and problematic for quite a while.
One main issue that is discussed is human dignity. Thinking about patenting human genes can give
the idea of owning the gene sequence. In fact a response from a lawyer would be that patenting is
not exactly ownership. This statement is true but doesn t change the way people think about
dignity. Many people still think that human genes are commodities.
Even though patenting DNA reduces the risk of

Essay On Maned Wolf
Introduction: Chrysocyon brachyurus, more commonly known as the Maned Wolf, is one of the
more peculiar canids residing in South America. While this animal may be classified as a wolf, it
has several differences in behavior and habitat than its North American and European counterparts
Amusingly dubbed the fox on stilts the maned wolf is the largest canid of South America with a
more slender body plan giving the animal a slender almost gangly appearance. The species is
known to dwell in savannah type habitats mostly in isolation until their breeding season sets in.
The animals are omnivorous sticking to small mammals and vegetation they pose little to know
throat to humans, however these animals are still subject to reduced mortatlity rates, putting them
in a near threatened category. Unfortunately, there is only a limited amount of research available
regarding the maned wolf, leaving a few holes to be filled in their profile. General Appearance:

Why Did The Patriots Win The Revolutionary War
On october 19, 1781 the British army surrendered at Yorktown, Virginia. Although the treaty had yet

troops, were highly trained, had more supplies, and a strong navy, the Patriots prevailed. Under the

The purpose was to create a program and coordinate assets of the federal government and state
agencies to control and minimize the economic, ecological, and human health impacts caused by
invasive species (Bergman). In addition to organizing and establishing federal policy in regards
to invaders it defines what an invasive species is. Executive Order 13112 defines an invasive
species as an alien species whose introduction does or is likely to cause economic or
environmental harm or harm to human health. Invasive species typically harm native species
through predation, habitat degradation and competition for shared resources (Cost of Invasive
Species, US Fish amp; Wildlife). By defining invasive species the order took strides to narrow the
scope of non indigenous species to those who are actively and aggressively pushing our native
species out through monopolization of resources and other tactics. This definition takes pains to,
therefore, exclude non indigenous species to the United States who are not evicting indigenous
species out of their native environment rather they are an almost welcome addition to our
ecosystems. North American populations of the ring neck pheasant, Phasianus colchicus, is a very
good examples of this. They were introduced to the North American continent from Asia through
settlers however, these species failed to become aggressive competitors to native species. Their
populations remained controlled through natural predation

Collage Discovery
When I was seven years old I made a huge discovery about science. I realized that everything that
surrounds me; the tree in my yard, the house that I live in, and the chair that I am sitting in right
now are made of the same exact materials that I am made of! I made this discovery whilst I was
discussing science with my dad. Earlier that day, at schoolwe had been talking about molecules and
how they were made of atoms. My dad often likes to extend my understanding of subjects which
I study at school, which is what he was doing that day. Since we had discussed atoms and
molecules in school my dad had decided to go a little further with me, and talk about what atoms
were made of. This led us to the subject of protons, neutrons and electrons. Over the course of the
next few days he taught me the basics of what I have now come... Show more content on

could talk about string theory. We sat down and he explained string theory to me. He then
explained how strings could be what protons, neutrons and electrons. This is about when I made

Compare And Contrast The Nfl Vs Canada
Professional Football: United States vs. Canada Football, known as America s Favorite Pastime
currently stands second in popularity in Canada. It is widely popular in both countries due to
increasing fan rate, the popularity of both their championship games, and new generations wanting
to play Football. However, younger players are decreasing because of problems relating to injuries.
Although Canada and the United States both have Professional Football Leagues, many differences
in their development made them the leagues that they are today.
Differences in rules and regulations have impacted both leagues and how they are played. One
major difference is that the NFL has the fair catch rule. During kickoffs or punts the player
returning the kickoff can catch the ball where they are instead of risking losing possession or yards.
One regulation is that the NFL has four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Where Men Win Glory, Jon Krakauer
Glory. It is an honor that all men, even if they are not aware, strive for. The definition of glory is
different for everyone. To one, glory might mean graduating medical school; to another, it could
mean taking center stage in a play as the applause surrounds her. To Pat Tillman, glory was not
defined as a multimillion dollar NFL contract or millions of adoring fans. It meant following his
upright inner voice and fulfilling his civil obligations. In Where Men Win Glory by Jon Krakauer,
Tillman rejects a successful football career to join the Army after being deeply disturbed by the

Krakauer has a straight to the point, concrete writing style. I tend to favor abstract writing with a
great deal of figurative language. I had a hard time finding trope, but My favorite simile in the
book is on page 96. It said, Like a super villain in a Marvel comic book, he seemed to be endowed
with the ability to absorb the mightiest blows his enemy could deliver, draw energy from them,
and become more powerful as a consequence. This quote is comparing Osama bin Laden to a villain
in a comic book because it seemed like no matter what attempts the U.S. made to take him down,
he always came back stronger. If there had been more similes like this, the book would ve been
better. Also, Krakauer s excessive use of acronyms left me feeling frustratingly confused.
Nevertheless, not all is bad about Krakauer s writing technique. I was pleasantly surprised to find
that he included actual entries from Pat Tillman s journal and statements from Tillman s friends and
family. In doing so, Krakauer made me easily connect and empathize with Pat Tillman and his
loved ones. This made a powerful impact on the book and reader.
Despite my previous explanation of what I did not like about the book, the list of what I did like is
more significant. I will admit that I am not an avid reader. For a book to successfully make me feel

Injuries And Injuries Of Acl Injuries
In this paper I will be researching ACL injuries in sports. Along with what causes these injuries
to happen, how they can be prevent and if the footwear we use as athletes can make these
injuries more or less likely to happen to us. I will also be looking closely into the reoccurring ACL
injury in which Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls has been suffering from for the past few years.
An ACL is the Anterior Cruciate Ligament(ACL) which is a ligament in the knee and is an essential
internal stabilizer of the knee joint and helps in restraining hyperextension. It is injured when it s
when the biomechanics of this ligaments limits are exceeded or over stretched, often with a
hyperextended mechanic. It was thought that this occurred in sports where there was a lot of
contact and when other structures were often involved. In the present day, the ACL injury seems

Underage Drinking In America
Underage drinking is a very eminent problem for Americans today. Some may not know that the
human brain continues to develop until the age of twenty five. Underage drinking can weaken
neurological development, which could cause minors to make bad decisions, have memory loss,
slower thought processes, and even acquire irreversible brain damage. Drinking when your body
and mind are not fully developed can leave damaging effects on a person s social abilities,
neurological abilities, and overall health.
A youth s social abilities can be destroyed by underage drinking. Socialization skills are key when
a minor is growing up. A minor struggles to find their own independence and find themselves,
therefore creating a distance from family relationships and creating new bonds with peers. The
youth tend to try to be similar to each other to fit in with the rest, and as a result, children may be
pressured into drinking alcohol. When these minors start to drink heavily and frequently, they
may develop self esteem issues, depression, disorders, antisocial behavior, and anxiety. This
makes underage drinkers more withdrawn from their peers and families than their peers who
choose not to drink. Peers who don t drink do not tend to associate and be friends with the group
of people that do drink. This can lead to isolation and also disdain from those who do ... Show more

However, there s more than enough facts to prove that statistically, underage drinking is a growing
problem among us. Adolescents drink less frequently than adults, but in opposition, youths also
consume larger amounts at a time. There are several different consequences resulting from drinking
alcohol while underage, and social, neurological, and health repercussions are just three out of
numerous effects. The hazards of underage drinking can only grow from here if there aren t more
steps taken to take control of the

What Is The Value Chain Analysis Of Pepsico
In order to provide an outside perspective, PepsiCo tasked us with creating a recommendation to
one of its current problems: how should it adjust its beverage product portfolio to better align
with changing retailer and consumer tastes and preferences? After much consideration and
analysis, we have decided to approach the problem by focusing on society s shift to more health
and environmentally conscious purchasing habits, which has caused annual decreases in
carbonated soft drink (CSD) sales. To further explore PepsiCo s problem, we conducted PEST,
PORTER, VIRO, and Value Chain analyses. Below are the results from each analysis: Through
our PEST analysis, we found political/legal factors as the most pertinent. This is in slight
contrast to our focus on lifestyle and consumer changes because we are focusing on a subset of
social factors and the others sections caused the category to be devalued in the bigger picture.
Overall, we valued tax laws, foreign trade laws, and attitudes toward foreign companies as the
highest because tax laws determine how much revenue may be converted into net income or if it
marginally increases product price. The only factor ranked with low importance was stability of
government. While it is true that a stable government results in a stable market, PepsiCo is not
currently heavily invested in any unstable or contested governments, and its choice to generally
have non politicized practices make it safe to individual political concerns. After

Characteristics Of An Effective Counselor
Characteristics of an Effective Counselor
DesirГ©e M. Ericksen
Liberty University
Abstract
This paper reviews four published papers and/or studies that have researched the characteristics of
effective counselors. Each of the papers/studies list their own set of characteristics, but share a
common thread of empathy, compassion, warmth, genuineness and emotional stability. After
reviewing each paper and research study, additional analysis was applied to the above five
characteristics with the hope of creating a more thorough understanding of what characteristics will
assist in the journey of becoming an effective counselor.
Characteristics of an Effective Counselor Counseling is an age old profession. A counselor is

Brown, 1996).
First, to understand the importance of a counselor s characteristics, it should be understood that a
counselor uses him/herself as a tool in assisting clients in various ways. Carroll stated:
When human beings [counselors] work they use themselves as the main focus of their work, they
infuse themselves into it, they become it; it is them at work, not just work done by them. Their
work changes from being a job, or indeed even a career, to becoming an extension of themselves, of
who they are. (Carroll, 2001, p. 77)
Therefore, empathy, genuineness, warmth, compassion and emotional stability are not only
characteristics of effective counselors, they should be considered the foundation of what a
counselor is.

Carl Roger s (1957) wrote an article for the Journal of Consulting Psychology to help address the
conditions necessary for therapeutic change. Rogers listed six conditions of which three conditions
are specifically applied to the therapist: unconditional positive regard, empathetic understanding,
and congruence (Rogers, 1957) Rogers expounded on congruence as being the most significant
quality by saying
The third condition is that the therapist should be, within the confines of this relationship, a
congruent, genuine, integrated person. It means that within the relationship he is freely and deeply

broken down into the following categories:
I would consider the products at Macy s to have a large negative price elasticity of demand and a
large positive cross price elasticity of demand because there are many alternatives and good
substitutes, following monopolistic competition. If I was speaking of some of the extremely high
end clothing brands at Bloomingdale s, such as Dolce amp; Gabbana or Vera Wang, I might agree
that the price elasticity of demand was relatively low because of brand loyalty to the most
contemporary designers. These consumers are willing to pay the extra money, even to excessive
amounts, to be seen in the trendiest and most expensive lines. Possessing these two different types
of department stores probably accounts for much of their success during economic fluctuations
such as recessions. Although I prefer the high end brands at Bloomingdales, I would be more likely
to shop at Macy s during economic hardship.
The typical Macy s customer relies on the value of the dollar as well as quality. While Macy s
consumers probably appreciate the well known, reliable

screenwriter, and film director. Mamet has written several plays, including Speed the Plow, China
Doll, The Shawl, and Faustus, and succeeded in a movie adaptation of his play Glengarry Glen
Ross in 1992. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois until he relocated outside the city, living with his
parents that later divorced until he moved. His sister Lynn admitted their home life was cruel,
influencing anger to be present in Mamet s work (Editors). In relation to his work, other themes of
his work include: relationships (deception, loyalty, etc.), success and failure, and speech
mannerisms (persuasion and alike). Other attributes of Mamet s work include intricate dialogue and
characters with individualized mannerisms; for example: Mamet believes that people speak what
they are influenced by. Mamet was influence most by Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter, Lanford

As for his play American Buffalo, the following themes are present: business, loyalty, friendship,

The Effect Of Fructose On The Aging Process
indefinitely on long lived molecules such as collagen and DNA. Evidence suggests that these
AGE molecules play a role in the aging process. The Maillard process is dependent on the
reactivity of the sugar involved. Fructose is much more reactive than glucose. In vivo, the rate of
non enzymatic glycosylation of haemoglobin was 7.5 greater, and the rate of protein cross linking
(a marker of aging) was 10 times greater, in the presence of fructosethan in the presence of glucose.
Therefore, it is safe to conclude that fructose has a much greater implication in the aging process
than glucose, taking the glycosylation of haemoglobin as an assay for this. [1]
As a reducing sugar, fructose reacts with protein molecules to form toxic advanced glycation end
products (AGEs) to a much greater extent than other sugars, which appears to contribute not only to
the aging process but also play a role in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications in diabetic
patients such as nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy and others. Supplementing the diet of
healthy male volunteers with 3g of fructose per kg of body weight per day resulted in insulin
resistance developing in as little as six days. A study carried out in non diabetic rats fed a diet
containing 68% carbohydrate, provided as fructose, shows that almost all retinas from the rats
showed pathologic changes that were histologically indistinguishable from diabetic retinopathy. [1]

December 12, 2013 The Importance of Childhood in Oryx And Crake In Atwood s novel Oryx

only do Jimmy s poor choices in his adult life have a clear link to his neglected and unguided

Having never experienced a positive way to express his feeling in his childhood it caused him to
be so cold and empty in side. He was as inhuman and void of emotions as his small childhood pet.
Once the world s inhabitants are wiped out, Snowman is left with the task of taking care of the
Crakers. Whether it is the fact that Snowman wants to be the parent he never had, or if he just
simply doesn t want to lose his only somewhat human interactions, it is evident that he cares about
these creatures. In the time of crisis he exhibits a compassionate reasonability toward the Crakers
because it is his duty to look after the new race of humans. Perhaps the only positive by product of
his dysfunctional childhood is that he knows what it is like to be deserted and left uncared for so
he strives now in his adulthood as Snowman to protect the Crakers as best he can. Even though
Crakers original vision for these creature was to make them Godless and without art, Snowman

A natural behaviour for humans is trying to relate to other s points of view, one thing most
people do not realize is that when you actually experience the event, you will have a different

had a completely different point of view on war than others who just watched it on the news. The
main character and the stories in the book resemble Tim O Brien s life in many ways, one of
which is how Tim and the main character both oppose the war but other s point of view about the

O Brien always questioned the idea of enemies . Throughout the book he questioned in many

History of the Telegraph Essay
The electric telegraph is a now outdated communication system that was used to transmit electric
signals over wires from location to location that translated into a message by people at stations.
The non electric telegraph was invented by Claude Chappe in 1794. This system was visual and
used a semaphore, an alphabet based on flag language, and depended on a line of sight for
communication. This optical telegraph was replaced by the electric telegraph, eventually.
In 1809, a crude telegraph was invented in Bavaria by Samuel Soemmering. He used 35 wires
with gold electrodes in water and at the receiving end 2000 feet the message was read by the
amount of gas caused by electrolysis. In 1828, the first telegraph in the USA. was ... Show more

However, it was Samuel Morse that would go down in history for bettering Joseph Henry s
invention. Samuel made sketches of a magnetized magnet based on Henry s work. He then went on
to invent a telegraph system that was a practical and commercial success.
Samuel Morse
While he was a professor of arts and design at the New York University in 1835, Samuel Morse
proved that signals could be transmitted by wire. He used impulses of electrical current to deflect
an electromagnet, which moved a marker to produce written codes on a strip of paper thus the
invention of Morse Code. The following year, the device was modified to emboss the paper with
dots and dashes. Samuel gave a public demonstration in 1838, but it was not until five years later
that the Congress funded $30,000 to construct an experimental telegraph line from Washington to
Baltimore, a distance of 40 miles.
Six years later, members of Congress witnessed the sending and receiving of messages over part of
the telegraph line. Before the line had reached Baltimore, the Whig party held its national
convention there, and on May 1, 1844, nominated Henry Clay. This news was hand carried to
Annapolis Junction (between Washington and Baltimore) where Samuel s partner, Alfred Vail,
wired it to the Capitol. This was the first news dispatched by electric telegraph.
Samuel Morse is best known as the inventor of the

Injuries Among High School and College Athletes
What does not kill you, can only make you stronger has become the anthem for most coaches and
athletes. High school and college sports have become the most interesting athletic league to watch.
Due to the increase in demand and pressure on adolescent athletes, the injury rate has increased
extremely. There has been an increase in high school athletes and many of these athletes obtain
some type of injury every year. There are many specific overworked and acute injuriesthat high
school athletes face. Also, many reasons why injuries happen and the different treatments and

Most athletes never learn the proper skills to play sports safely and correctly. Coaches should
teach their athletes the correct safety procedures before sending a player out to practice or play.
A common error by many parents is that safety precautions do not need to be taught until more
advanced levels of play. This mistake often increases athletes chance of dangering themselves
because by the time they are at a more professional level, it is too late to teach them proper safety
regulations. Athletes make simple mistakes of doing everything incorrectly that includes using the
equipment properly. Player contact injuries represent a high level of high school sport injuries and
had an increasingly higher rate this past year. In his article Epidemiology of Exceptional Heat
Illness among U.S. High School Athletes Zachary Kerr describes how intense player contact injury
has increased over the years and how football is most competitive sport with these injuries. These
injuries usually take place at the ankle/foot, head/face and then the knee. Player contact is the most
natural way of injury among high school athletes, and happens to be the most difficult one to stop.

reasons she neglected her duties as a wife until she fell in love with Robert and acknowledged that
her desires and needs exist outside of her marriage. Thus, after her experiences with Robert, Edna
is ready to neglect her husband even more, because she now realizes that her husband is holding
her back from her needs. When Leonce tries to make Edna act like the other women that obey their

Consisting of only 25 verses, Jude is often an overlooked letter in the Bible. Jude had two
purposes in writing his letter. His first purpose was to make believers aware of the false teachers
that were penetrating their way into the communities; his second purpose was to encourage
Christians to fight for truth and stand firm in their faith. Jude was aware that the false teachers
were very crafty in bring their doctrine, gods, and beliefs into the lives and teachings of the
Christians, and therefore he wanted to give detail and waring about how detrimental this can be.
Being aware of a problem is not enough. Jude then encourages the believers to stand for truth and
speak out against the false teachers. He gave them instructions on how to do... Show more content

The second argument is that the referral to apostolic teachings ( the predictions of the apostles of
our Lord Jesus Christ ) would make the writing be of a late date, which would not be true if the
half brother of Jesus was writing this book. The third, and final argument is that Jude did not state
he is the brother of Jesus. Jude s role as a servant of Christ gave his letter more authority than being
the brother of Christ. None of the arguments against Jude, the brother of James, the half brother of
Jesus are strong enough not believe the claim made in scripture.
There is not an exact date given for the writing of this letter. If the letter is pseudonymous, then
the date of authorship would be approximately A.D. 100. However, if Jude the half brother of
Jesus is the author then the approximate date of authorship would be before A.D. 90. Jude and
2 Peter are closely related and some believe one was used to write the other. If Jude used 2 Peter
to write his letter, then it can be assumed the letter was authored between A.D. 64 65. However, if
Jude was used to write 2 Peter than an earlier date would be required. There is not an exact date of
when the letter was written, and the date is still argued today.
Despite the questions of authorship and date, Jude is a canonical book of the Bible. A canonical
book is one that measures up to the standard of Holy Scripture. Thus, the canon of Scripture

Questions On The Energy Infrastructure
Final Examination
Question 1
The Energy infrastructure is comprised of three different segments, electricity, oil and gas; all of
which come together to provide resources to other critical Infrastructures such as the transportation,
communications, IT, finance and other infrastructures depending on them to function (DHS, 2016).
In the U.S., we rely so much on the energy infrastructure because it helps us function and survive.
We spend billions of dollars a year in energy consumption.
Without energy resources, millions of people could get hurt, some die and the economy would be
negatively affected. Our homes, offices and businesses would be left without light, a.c. and gas.
Our transportation system would be crippled, and communications would be almost impossible.
In order to acquire energy products, they have to be explored, refined and transported. What that
means is;
Exploration: This is the initial starting point of energy development. In this sector, oil locations are
found; drills and pipelines are used to absorb these resources which are then converted to other
forms of energy resources such as petroleum, gas, electricity, jet fuel and much more. Most of
these exploration locations are found in remote areas; areas like the Middle East, Mexico, and
Africa, areas hard to get to, in the middle of the sea or where no one would go.
The good thing about exploration is it makes it possible to find new locations and

But there are many of the risk factors for these cancers.
a.Smoking
Smoking tobacco is one of the main causes of lung cancer. More than 8 out of 10 lung cancers
(80%) are caused by smoking. This also includes breathing in other people s cigarette smoke. Even
occasional smoking increases the risk of lung cancer.
b.Non Smokers
Passive smoking also causes lung cancer. Many people with lung cancer are former smokers, but
many others never smoked at all.
c.Changes to the gene
Certain changes in the DNA of lung cells can lead to lung cancer. These changes can lead to
abnormal cell growth and, sometimes, cancer.
d.Chemicals and workplace risk
Some substances increase the risk of lung cancer. These include asbestos, silica, and diesel exhaust.
People can be exposed to these through their work.
e.Exposure to radon gas
Radon gas is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from tiny amounts of uranium

M. K. Gandhi s Civil Disobedience Movement
In response to the inadequacy of the Simon Report, the Labor Government, which had come to
power under Ramsay MacDonald in 1929, decided to hold a series of Round Table Conferences in
London.
The first Round Table Conference convened from 12 November 1930 to 19 January 1931. Prior to
the Conference, M. K. Gandhi had initiated the Civil Disobedience Movement on behalf of the
Indian National Congress. Consequently, since many of the Congress leaders were in jail,
Congress did not participate in the first conference, but representatives from all other Indian parties
and a number of Princes did. The outcomes of the first Round Table Conference were minimal: India
was to develop into a federation, safeguards regarding defense and finance were agreed and other
departments were to be transferred. However, little was done to implement these recommendations
and civil disobedience continued in India. The British Government realized that the Indian National
Congress needed to be part of deciding the future of constitutional government in India.
Lord Irwin, the Viceroy, met with Gandhi to reach a compromise. On 5 March 1931 they agreed the

Two weeks before the Conference convened, the Labor government had been replaced by the
Conservatives. At the conference, Gandhi claimed to represent all people of India. This view,
however, was not shared by other delegates. In fact, the division between the many attending groups
was one of the reasons why the outcomes of the second Round Table Conference were again no
substantial results regarding India s constitutional future. Meanwhile, civil unrest had spread
throughout India again, and upon return to India Gandhi was arrested along with other Congress
leaders. A separate province of Sind was created and the interests of minorities were safeguarded by

Case Study: Emily Heath
Part 3 Alternative Solutions
To ensure the company will achieve stability by maintaining customer appreciation and satisfaction,
Netflix must invest their time and finances into new alternative solutions. The solutions are based
on what problems have presented themselves and are in best interest of the customers and the
company. The main concerns at the moment seem to be the unreliability and instability of the
company as the guidelines for prices and methods of delivery are constantly changing.
There are a few possible suggestions that are up for experimentation to resolve Netflix s problems.
1. Incorporate commercials before and after everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of now, the limited variety of movies and TV shows do not accommodate extremely young
and older potential subscribers. If there is more selection incorporated, we can include all age
groups. By incorporating cartoons and shows for young children, we are opening up a door for
new customers. Young children will be able to tune in and watch their favorite shows, making it a
favorite for parents. By adding in older movies and TV series like Coronation Street that target the
older market, we are opening the door to potential customers in an older age group.
Solution: Incorporate more variety for a broader age group. Include child friendly TV shows and
movies, to increase viewers at a younger age. Incorporate some of the older, less common TV
shows and movies that target the elder customer base.
Advantages: Opens the door for even younger and older customers
Disadvantages: May be costly for the company to initially start and will rely completely on the
outcome. Netflix must be sure they will gain this extra customer base before making the investment.
3. Create a Customer Base (Expand Social Network) to improve the services of Netflix. The entire
business relies on subscribers. If they don t feel as if they are important, they will hesitate to
continue paying their fees. Also, being able to communicate with the customers will create a more
friendly and personal atmosphere. Starting up a chat room on Netflix to discuss what

They also wanted to guilt the children into believing that being gay would not only ostracize yourself, but would also shame your family. Then there was the pressure from the government telling the families that it was being patriotic to follow the new social structure and if people did otherwise they were seen as communist supporters. Lastly, there was the pressure that society put on each other. The nuclear family was the accepted lifestyle and if you did not follow it, most people would look down on you. Homosexuality is one of the best examples of this ostracization within Canada during the Cold War. The roles were so clear cut and heterosexuality was deemed the only lifestyle for Canadian citizens. In rugby the player number 9 rolls the ball in the scrum where 8 players bind onto each other and push forward so the team hook can use their leg to swipe the ball back towards their team where they can pass to the outside players, known as wings, and those players can run downfield and score a try. Genetic modification is not much different from artificial selection, in which one chooses which organism or organisms are to reproduce based upon one s desired traits of the offspring. Original scenic design was created by Jo Meizner, who had created a Skeletonized view of John s office, and an equally Victorian view on the right, and, in between the town square, presided over by the statue of a kneeling Angel (Bordman.) Original stars of the show included Todd Andrews, as John, and Katherine Balfour, as Alma. Part of the reason why critics believe this show was so unsuccessful is because Margo Jones went about this blind eyed, and only had the guide of Tennessee when she went to visit him, they blame the poor outcome of this show on its poor staging and directing. Essentially, the creation of the economic regional blocs aims to minimize the obstacles between nations that share the same geographic border and to facilitate the circulations of goods and services. In fact, the regional trading blocs differ in terms of political structure and economic objectives, but the rapidity of trading goods and services within the different regions around the globe wouldn t be possible without establishing unified political and economic units. For example, the European Union(EU) as other regional blocs gathers different countries that share the same geographical borders and differ in cultures, languages, and political systems. Invasive species typically harm native species through predation, habitat degradation and competition for shared resources (Cost of Invasive Species, US Fish amp; Wildlife). I will also be looking closely into the reoccurring ACL injury in which Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls has been suffering from for the past few years. An ACL is the Anterior Cruciate Ligament(ACL) which is a ligament in the knee and is an essential internal stabilizer of the knee joint and helps in restraining hyperextension. It is injured when it s when the biomechanics of this ligaments limits are exceeded or over stretched, often with a hyperextended mechanic. It was thought that this occurred in sports where there was a lot of contact and when other structures were often involved. In the present day, the ACL injury seems to be more of a contactless injury such as; a dismount from a layup in basketball. • 23. Underage Drinking In America Underage drinking is a very eminent problem for Americans today. Some may not know that the human brain continues to develop until the age of twenty five. Underage drinking can weaken neurological development, which could cause minors to make bad decisions, have memory loss, slower thought processes, and even acquire irreversible brain damage. Drinking when your body and mind are not fully developed can leave damaging effects on a person s social abilities, neurological abilities, and overall health. A youth s social abilities can be destroyed by underage drinking. Socialization skills are key when a minor is growing up. A minor struggles to find their own independence and find themselves, therefore creating a distance from family relationships and creating new bonds with peers. The youth tend to try to be similar to each other to fit in with the rest, and as a result, children may be pressured into drinking alcohol. When these minors start to drink heavily and frequently, they may develop self esteem issues, depression, disorders, antisocial behavior, and anxiety. This makes underage drinkers more withdrawn from their peers and families than their peers who choose not to drink. Peers who don t drink do not tend to associate and be friends with the group of people that do drink. This can lead to isolation and also disdain from those who do ... What Is The Value Chain Analysis Of Pepsico In order to provide an outside perspective, PepsiCo tasked us with creating a recommendation to one of its current problems: how should it adjust its beverage product portfolio to better align with changing retailer and consumer tastes and preferences? After much consideration and analysis, we have decided to approach the problem by focusing on society s shift to more health and environmentally conscious purchasing habits, which has caused annual decreases in carbonated soft drink (CSD) sales. To further explore PepsiCo s problem, we conducted PEST, PORTER, VIRO, and Value Chain analyses. Below are the results from each analysis: Through our PEST analysis, we found political/legal factors as the most pertinent. This is in slight contrast to our focus on lifestyle and consumer changes because we are focusing on a subset of social factors and the others sections caused the category to be devalued in the bigger picture. Overall, we valued tax laws, foreign trade laws, and attitudes toward foreign companies as the highest because tax laws determine how much revenue may be converted into net income or if it marginally increases product price. The only factor ranked with low importance was stability of government. While it is true that a stable government results in a stable market, PepsiCo is not currently heavily invested in any unstable or contested governments, and its choice to generally have non politicized practices make it safe to individual political concerns. After reviewing each paper and research study, additional analysis was applied to the above five characteristics with the hope of creating a more thorough understanding of what characteristics will assist in the journey of becoming an effective counselor. First, to understand the importance of a counselor s characteristics, it should be understood that a counselor uses him/herself as a tool in assisting clients in various ways. Carroll stated: When human beings [counselors] work they use themselves as the main focus of their work, they infuse themselves into it, they become it; it is them at work, not just work done by them. Their work changes from being a job, or indeed even a career, to becoming an extension of themselves, of who they are. (Carroll, 2001, p. 77) Therefore, empathy, genuineness, warmth, compassion and emotional stability are not only characteristics of effective counselors, they should be considered the foundation of what a counselor is. If I was speaking of some of the extremely high end clothing brands at Bloomingdale s, such as Dolce amp; Gabbana or Vera Wang, I might agree that the price elasticity of demand was relatively low because of brand loyalty to the most contemporary designers. These consumers are willing to pay the extra money, even to excessive amounts, to be seen in the trendiest and most expensive lines. Possessing these two different types of department stores probably accounts for much of their success during economic fluctuations such as recessions. • 28. The Effect Of Fructose On The Aging Process indefinitely on long lived molecules such as collagen and DNA. Evidence suggests that these AGE molecules play a role in the aging process. The Maillard process is dependent on the reactivity of the sugar involved. Fructose is much more reactive than glucose. In vivo, the rate of non enzymatic glycosylation of haemoglobin was 7.5 greater, and the rate of protein cross linking (a marker of aging) was 10 times greater, in the presence of fructosethan in the presence of glucose. Therefore, it is safe to conclude that fructose has a much greater implication in the aging process than glucose, taking the glycosylation of haemoglobin as an assay for this. [1] As a reducing sugar, fructose reacts with protein molecules to form toxic advanced glycation end products (AGEs) to a much greater extent than other sugars, which appears to contribute not only to the aging process but also play a role in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications in diabetic patients such as nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy and others. Supplementing the diet of healthy male volunteers with 3g of fructose per kg of body weight per day resulted in insulin resistance developing in as little as six days. A study carried out in non diabetic rats fed a diet containing 68% carbohydrate, provided as fructose, shows that almost all retinas from the rats showed pathologic changes that were histologically indistinguishable from diabetic retinopathy. • 41. Questions On The Energy Infrastructure Final Examination Question 1 The Energy infrastructure is comprised of three different segments, electricity, oil and gas; all of which come together to provide resources to other critical Infrastructures such as the transportation, communications, IT, finance and other infrastructures depending on them to function (DHS, 2016). In the U.S., we rely so much on the energy infrastructure because it helps us function and survive. We spend billions of dollars a year in energy consumption. Without energy resources, millions of people could get hurt, some die and the economy would be negatively affected. Our homes, offices and businesses would be left without light, a.c. and gas. Our transportation system would be crippled, and communications would be almost impossible. In order to acquire energy products, they have to be explored, refined and transported. Gandhi s Civil Disobedience Movement In response to the inadequacy of the Simon Report, the Labor Government, which had come to power under Ramsay MacDonald in 1929, decided to hold a series of Round Table Conferences in London. The first Round Table Conference convened from 12 November 1930 to 19 January 1931. Prior to the Conference, M. K. By incorporating cartoons and shows for young children, we are opening up a door for new customers. Young children will be able to tune in and watch their favorite shows, making it a favorite for parents. By adding in older movies and TV series like Coronation Street that target the older market, we are opening the door to potential customers in an older age group. Solution: Incorporate more variety for a broader age group. Include child friendly TV shows and movies, to increase viewers at a younger age. Incorporate some of the older, less common TV shows and movies that target the elder customer base. Advantages: Opens the door for even younger and older customers Disadvantages: May be costly for the company to initially start and will rely completely on the outcome. Netflix must be sure they will gain this extra customer base before making the investment. 3. Create a Customer Base (Expand Social Network) to improve the services of Netflix.
