John Rawls Views On Social Justice
Everyday all over the world, people are victims of injustices done to them by their own people or done
to them by enemies. Some individuals that perform the injustices may not understand that they are
doing so. So that brings about the question of how does one categorize doing justice versus doing an
injustice? It may seem obvious to some but may be far from recognizable to others. John Rawls was a
political and moral philosopher that had his own views that helped shape the concepts of social justice.
There are two main principles the Mr. Rawls based his theory off and those are that everyone should
have equal rights and that social and economic inequalities are looked at and applied so that they are a
great benefit of the least advantaged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thomas Aquinas is a philosopher that discussed the three conditions for a Just War. The first
requirement is that the war must be waged by a person of authority and that it cannot be started by a
private person. The protection of people is for those with authority to handle. The second requirement
is that it must be for a good reason or a just cause. The reason for this is because those who are slain
are being slain for their faults committed. The third requirement is the intention to promote good and
to avoid evil. Thinking about these three requirements, the thought of the most recent wars might
come to mind. Were these three aspects applied before going to war? It is hard to answer that because
there are many details unknown to the general population but most people would say that these were
not applied (Mitchell) (St. Thomas

A Brief Note On Patients With Diabetic Lower Leg Ulcers...
Wounds related to Diabetic Neuropathy Patients with diabetic neuropathy generally ended up with
wounds, since they have reduced ability to feel pain and temperature. The problem that the guideline
addresses is patients with lower extremity neuropathic disease (LEND) with or at risk for wounds
(National Guideline Clearinghouse, 2012, para. 1). The purpose of the guideline is to support clinical
practice by providing consistent, research based information with the goal of improved cost effective
patient outcomes as well as to stimulate increased wound research (National Guideline Clearinghouse,
2012, para. 9). This paper will present a summary of the quantitative and the qualitative article, gaps
between guideline and practice; also, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the final analysis, the APC treatment was concluded that it is a safe medication for leg ulcers, and
provides evidences for larger clinical trial. Overall, the results show that APC treatment of lower leg
ulcers in patients with diabetes improves wound healing, with a subsequent improvement in patient
quality of life and no deleterious effect on patient safety (Kaley et al., 2013, p.5).
Qualitative Article Living with leg ulceration: a synthesis of qualitative research is a study that
analyzes twelve research studies about patients experience of living with a leg ulcer. The authors used
a method called Qualitative Assessment and Review Instrument (QARI). This tool is designed to assist
researchers to manage, appraise, analyze and synthesize textual data and provides a structure for the
synthesis (Briggs Flemming, 2007, p.320). Additionally, they used different database to gather the
records and ended up with twelve studies that met the criteria. In summary, the topic that was most
mentioned, with the most volume of data, was physical effects like pain, odor, itch, leakage and
infection. Also, the least mentioned was psychological impact (Briggs Flemming, 2007). Even though
psychological impact was the least theme mentioned, that does not mean that it is not as important.
Reasons could be that physical effects overwhelmed the psychological ones.
The authors described the problem as the leg ulcer journey. It explains as two routes,

History and Impact of Activision
Many people underestimate the impact of videogames. Especially at this day in age, video games are
everywhere. About 80% of American households have some form of video game devices, Computer,
or Console, or even an iPhone. Video games bring many people together as a community, and many
other helpful reasons. Personally, I am a big gamer myself. I have thousands of hours at least in video
game playing and more still coming in. Many companies have been able to make billions of net just
selling video games, that s how big the gaming community is. The biggest game vendor in the world
is Activision, making 18.9 billion net worth of money. With Activision also buying Blizzard, which
the founder is in the top 5 richest people in the gaming industry, they are just piling in the money.
Activision is special in many different ways by being one of the first gaming vendors, from surviving
the great downfall of
Currie 2 the videogame industry, TWICE, and going from the 3rd party game vendor to a first party
game vendor.
To understand the success of Activision and how it changed the world, we have to go to the beginning
of Activision, the VERY beginning. This is when Atari, the biggest video game franchise in the world
(well at least in 1970 s 1980 s), was the dominate face for video games. Want a videogame? Well, just
go to the store and by an Atari game! Soon, 4 people, who

Rhetorical Devices In A More Perfect Union By Barack Obama
In the 2008 United States presidential election between Barack Obama vs John McCain, Obama s
pastor mentioned several controversial and offensive remarks. These statements brought negative
publicity for Obama because of his connection towards Reverend Jeremiah Wright, he was Obama s
aforementioned pastor. With his following severely decreasing because of this, Obama had to find a
way to regain his supporters by writing the powerful speech, A More Perfect Union in which he uses a
variety of rhetorical devices such as parallelism, a paradox, hyperbole, and allusions to the past history
of the United States. The use of these devices in this speech create a strong argument of his intentions
as president, his views on racism and the issues society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a vast difference of cultures in American society and schools and Obama s goals with using
parallelism was to touch the hearts of every race with how the public schooling system is failing these
children. We want to talk about the crumbling schools that are stealing the future of black children,
and white children, and Asian children, and Hispanic children, and Native American children. He not
only acknowledges the races of these children but how poor the school system is. The use of
parallelism in this helps create a stronger argument because he shows he s not oblivious to the variety
of cultures in America which feeds into the belief that America is home of the free and accepts anyone
regardless of race, gender, and religious beliefs. Not only does he use parallelism, he also uses a
hyperbole by exaggerating the fact that students futures are being stolen from them with poor
education. This is a hyperbole because the public schooling system isn t actually stealing the futures of
these children, but he uses this rhetorical strategy to amplify the emotion and relevance of the issues
with the public school system. These rhetorical strategies are effective because of the reaction he can
get from the audience. He reminds society of the issues in every day American life, and what he d
wish to do to fix these issues. He wishes to share the same common beliefs and desires of the common
man by focusing on the issues the common man faces day to day. Parallelism and hyperboles are
strong strategies to use because of the realization and emotions it gives the audience. Obama uses
these strategies to bring in the audience and build a strong relationship between him and the audience

Statement Of Financial Engineering
My interest toward financial engineering emerged when I am studying statistic and mathematic as an
undergraduate student in the Michigan State University. Michigan State University offers me a great
chance to explore and learn the systemic knowledge of Statistic and mathematic. I have put my heart
into many different pursuits, during my undergraduate years; it is through this two of experiences that
I have come to realize my life s ambition. Research and projects has made me appreciate the rigors of
the database process, and in the mean time, the result became a surprise for programming that could
change the way that we calculate; a summer in investment company made my realize that trade is my
true passion and inspiration.

After communicating with Professor Lepage, I decided to get rid of the data of the third kind of wine
but just keep the data of the first and the second kind of wine. Then, I looked into the data of 13
chemical features, I could see that the range of each group of data is various from each other. That is a
large difference and it makes the application of the Adaboost much harder. So I tried to scale the data
and set the criteria by myself. If the number was larger or equal to the median of its group, it will be
directly considered +1 . If the number was smaller than the median of its group, it will be stored as 1
in the vector. After scaling the data, I used the code that Professor Lepage sent us. I had each of the
chemical feature stored in a vector. And I built up the heuristic containing these 13 chemical features
in the matrix.
By the R code, I got the results of epsilon, alpha and the loss of measure by the accuracy. I decided
which k are the optimal k bases on the average of the prediction error. In order to better compare the
results from different statistical models, I also applied the models in only two chemical features and in
all chemical features by using K nn algorithm and K means clustering. Based on what I had already
known. I didn t stick on one single model. I tried to use different statistical models to figure out the
prediction errors and do the comparison among them. I also researched online to deepen our

Essay on The Religious Conflict in South Asia
The Religious Conflict in South Asia
It is a misconception to believe that there has always been conflict between Muslims and Hindu s. At
one time, Muslims and Hindus would live together in peace even worshiping in the same building, a
purely harmonious relationship. However the peace was not to last. In modern times the conflict it
could be said is inevitable. In this essay I hope to look at the issues of conflict in South Asia focusing
on India and in particular the continuing Hindu Muslim tensions, and look at possible reasons for the
continuing conflict which appears to have escalated since the withdrawal of British Rule from India.
Multiple events had shaped the Indian subcontinent with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However this harmony was short lived. By the seventeenth century Muslim rule under the strict rule of
Mughal leader, Aurangzeh, over the Hindus began. Aurangzeh imposed taxes upon the Hindus,
destroyed their temples often converting them to mosques, and sometimes even forced them to covert
to Islam. By the eighteenth century the Mughal empire had disbursed and the British began to obtain
increasing power. The British colonialism of India led to the unification of Hindus and Muslims, for
both opposed the British officers and resentment grew as they were denied jobs and high positions
government.
By the nineteenth century the Indian National Congress (I.N.C.) had been formed and were in union
demanding equal opportunities from colonial rule. In attempt to counter out the increasing Hindu
educated class, the British sought to make Muslims their allies. This failed but triggered Islamic
feeling that in order to protect their culture in the increasingly Hindu I.N.C., believed the Muslims
should have their own Islamic state.
In 1940 the all Indian Muslim league declared its desire for a Pakistan meaning land of the pure under
the confederation of an all Hindu state called Hindustan or the land of the Hindus . however a Pakistan

Essay Comparing Two Writing Techniques
Techniques in writing Albert Einstein once said, You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for
war. Writers frequently use figurative language to demonstrate and emphasize what they wish the
audience to acknowledge. Irony is a situation in which the opposite happened rather than what is
expected. Imagery is a figurative language that uses the five senses to represent an idea. Structure is
how the writer organized his lines. Many writers use irony, imagery, and structure in their writings to
protest war. One of the techniques that the authors use to prove and emphasize an idea is by irony.
During the war, soldiers tumbled in the yellow trenches/ Raged at [their] breast, gulped, and died...
War is kind (Crane 13 16). This shows irony due to the fact that war is never kind for it ends
innumerable, innocent lives. The soldier s mother is so happy and proud because... [his son] made
people crumple and ended their lives (Powers 9 10). It is ironic that his mother, who is a Christian, is

Because of the obstacles of the war, the author have said [he] wanted to die... wanting to be asleep

war is rigorous [b]ecause the land was mined and booby trapped... Because [anyone] could die...
Because the nights were cold (O Brien 10 14). The author keeps repeating because to acknowledge the
readers concerning the matter of the harsh, painful idea of war. Whitman has said the phrase: Beat!
beat! drums! blow! bugles! Blow! multiple times in his poem (1). Whitman keeps repeating the phrase
to let readers know that once someone fight in a war, they would never forget everything, even the
terrific sound effects of the bombs and rifles. Writers use structure in their writings to reveal their

How Does It Works And How It Is Used
Elastography: How it works and how it is used.
Abstract
A very useful and common practice often used in routine physical exams is palpation. This technique,
among its several uses, allows to estimate changes in the mechanical properties of tissue when the
presence of a diseases is suspected. A typical use of this technique is in the breast cancer examination:
the cancer is often revealed as a stiffening of glandular tissue, which would be normally soft. Even
though palpation remains an important tool for clinicians, its limited use only to accessible tissue, its
limited disease detectability and spatial discrimination, and the subjectiveness of its interpretation,
motivates the need to improve the mechanical properties detection of ... Show more content on

Artificial tissues and organs have been developed both to replicate the function of the original organ
and to reproduce its mechanical properties under physiologic conditions, in order to improve the
chance for the patient to return to normal activities.
Several mechanical tests have to be applied for measuring static and dynamic properties of materials
and most of them involve applying a force to the material and measuring its displacement. Through
these tests, measuring the stress applied and the resulting strain, it is possible to calculate material
properties such as the Young modulus, the physical parameter corresponding to the material stiffness.
The results of these experiments will depend on many mechanical properties of the material and it is
often very common, in order to simplify the mathematical relationships between stresses and strains
and improve the interpretation of the responses, to make several assumptions about the material
characteristics: The material is assumed to be infinite: this means that boundary conditions and effects
can be ignored; The material is assumed to be homogeneous: within the area where the test is
performed we can consider only a smaller set of parameters ignoring changes of mechanical properties
in space; The material is linearly viscoelastic: the relationship between the applied

Descriptive Essay On Sculptures
As the sun started to settling down, you walked into a wonderful museum full of figure sculptures to
which the natural spot light shines from the sun hit the wonderful master pieces. Then you walk more
deeply inside an exhibition room, suddenly, you notice that you are surrendered by medium size to
large sculptures. One sculpture that is space equally to one an another, but they all have no cloth on.
As you tend to get closer and closer and the story of the sculptures reveal more details of what is the
sculpture tell you like a story telling. Even the details of the bodies tend to give of a more muscle
structures. When looking at a stone sign above, you notice that you are in a theme of nude figure
sculptures. In the center were the four main sculptures which is in order from finest pick from the
museum and three from the class room lecture. They are The Lansdown Athlete, the Roman copy of
the Lysippos, and Roman copy after a Greek original by Praxiteles, Hermes and the Infant Dionysos.
From my opinion is that the sculptures are in nude because they tell us that the sculptures are
goddesses or a recreation of a person that is not real. The nude sculpture is one who is not wearing
cloth or less who which it shows our body parts. Most of the sculptures are made out of stone, marble,
and bronze. They are shown in large structure or a human size. All figures are mostly made in Greek
Late Classical to Hellenistic, thus the artist show more details in human body structures. For

My Firm s Services Regarding Proper Accounting Practices...
It has come to my understanding that you requested my firm s services regarding proper accounting
practices for the acquisition of long term debentures. Therefore, I write to you this memo to address
some issues you might be having with your newly obtained debt and to explain how to properly
amortize it. I have been informed that you already have an accounting expert that advised you to use
the Straight Line method of amortization for the discount on the bond. My expertise lies on the
Effective Interest method of amortization. 1. Determining Bond Price To determine the price of the
bond, the face value of the bond must be brought to its present value. The rationale behind this comes
from an investment principle that considers that the money given up in the present could yield a gain
in the long term if used as an investment. To arrive to the present value, we use a market rate that
represents the yield the average investor would require to spend money in a new venture (in this
particular case, 11%). Therefore, even though the Bond s face value might be $1,000,000, your
company is expected to get $924,623.74. The difference between this two numbers, $75,376.26, is
considered a discount that you allow for offering a rate that is lower than the rate requested by the
investors (in this case, 9%). 2. Amortization of Discount I took the liberty of creating an amortization
schedule to help you visualize the immediate difference between straight line and effective interest

victorious Ayatollah Khomeini returned that February. Of the approximately 90 people inside the

Idealism In A Wall Of Fire Rising By Edwidge Danticat
In A Wall of Fire Rising by Edwidge Danticat, Guy is a poor Haitian man stuck struggling in a
shantytown with his wife and son. This kind of life is the only one he has ever known but, dreams stir
within him. When his son gets the part of a legendary Haitian revolutionary in the school play, Guy s
idealism begins to beat up against the reality of his situation causing this loving father and husband to
become increasingly weary of life.
Guy s idealism shows itself most boldly in his obsession with the balloon. He dreams of escaping the
difficult life that he has by taking off in the owner s son s hot air balloon that is kept by the sugar mill.
His obsession is so great that During the day when the field was open, Guy would walk up to the
basket [of the balloon], staring at it with the same kind of longing that most men display when they
admire very pretty girls (370). What s more is that he honestly believes that from somewhat distant
observation, he could pilot the balloon if given the chance, even though it is a job that requires several
people (373, 376). In the field with his wife, Guy makes a plea for her to understand his infatuation
with the balloon which is actually an intense desire for escape. He tells her, Sometimes, I just want to
take that big balloon and ride it up into the air. I d like to sail off somewhere and keep floating until I
got a really ice place with a nice plot of land where I could be something new...Just be something new
(375).

The Impact of Contracted British Braille Code on The...
Introduction
Chronologically, before systematic production of the Basic Module for the Visually Impaired
(KAiMaL) in 2010, pupils with visual impairments were learning braille codes according to the
initiatives and flexibility of the subject teachers. Initially, students were learning Alphabetic Braille
(Barclay, Herlich, Sacks, 2010) followed with Contracted Braille based on formulae and procedures
prescribed in the Handbook of British Braille Prime (1992).
According to D Andrea (2009), braille code has developed as a methodology that represents the

Highlights of previous studies found that phonetic awareness in braille literacy is linked to the
cognitive operation of process of second language acquisition among students with visual impairment
and correlated with the first language (L1) (Cummin, 1981). In other words, the first language also
influences the operation of second language acquisition (Lord, 2008).
Language Literacy
According Argyropoulos and Martos (2006), basic literacy formed the foundation for the education.
Literacy development often receives serious attention from all parties (Rex, Koenig, Wormsley Baker,
1995). The term literacy is often linked with a person s ability to understand and write for everyday
demands. According to Troughton (2009), basic literacy skills are a continuous contour of a variety of
other technical literacies. In the context of the acquisition of language among pupils with visual
impairment, Gillon Young, 2002; McCall, McLinden, Gouglas, 2011, stated that the evolution of
literacy for braille users and sighted users are the same. The statement was agreed by Kway (2012),
which alleged that the literacy skills of students with visual impairment are as important as the typical
students.

New World Order Book Report
The idea of a totalitarian government has been around for over 100 years the new world order is a
secretive elite who operate at a global level to conspire to run the world under a single government.
Allowing the conspiracy theorist behind the promotion of the existence of the new world order to
continue to poison the already fragile brains of the American people is dangerous. The history of the
new world order can be traced back to the beginning of the united states with the Founding Fathers

Two Minutes Of Hate In 1984 By George Orwell
In a key scene during the exposition of the novel 1984, the Party has their Two Minutes of Hate. All of
the Outer Party members are violently yelling and releasing their built up anger. The Party members
rage is directed towards Goldstein who is the supposed leader of the rebellious group called the
Brotherhood. The chosen excerpt is during Winston s explanation of Two Minutes of Hate and
Goldstein s speech. Orwell establishes the power of blame through the Party s demonstration of
Goldstein and the Brotherhood. Orwell exploits the theme through Winston s inner monologue about
Goldstein during Two Minutes of Hate. One instance is Winston s diaphragm was constricted. He
could never see the face of Goldstein without a painful mixture of emotion (Orwell 12.) Winston
explains how he was taught to loathe Goldstein. Winston grew up before the Party was in power, but
the Party has managed to persuade Winston to instinctually fear and hate Goldstein. Additionally,
Orwell continues to display the Party s power through Winston by describing Goldstein s speech as so
exaggerated and perverse that a child should have been able to see through it, and yet just plausible
enough to fill one with an alarmed feeling that other people, less level headed than oneself, might be
taken by it (Orwell 12.) Winston initially describes how the Party has misled him to believe to hate
Goldstein. Later, Winston continues to describe how everyone else sees Goldstein. Some people use
him to express

How Does Starvation Affect Larval Behavior
Starvation impacts larval behavior as measured in the two choice assay a) 3rd instar larvae: From
previous studies of our lab (Newquist, Novenschi et al. 2016) we learnt that each larval ORN is
functionally diverse and each ORN differentially contributes to olfactory behavior in the Drosophila
melanogaster larvae. Based on these results, we postulated that individual ORNs might be
differentially modulated under starved state conditions. To begin to address this question we started
with a panel of seven different odorants from the panel of 19 different odorants published in the study
by (Mathew, Martelli et al. 2013). Each of the seven odorants elicits a strong, specific physiological
response from a single ORN (Or 47a :: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Larvae on each half are counted, RI is calculated using simple equation RI =(S C)/(S+C) [S denotes
number of larvae on the odorant/test side and C denotes number of larvae towards the control side].
The data from this experiment is presented in Figure 1. When tested for odorant acetal, starved larvae
showed higher RI when compared to non starved larvae. In other words, starved larvae have a stronger
attractive response towards acetal compared to the non starved larvae. Next, we looked at the olfactory
responses of the remaining six odorants from the panel of seven that were mentioned above. As
mentioned in the previous paragraph, starved and non starved larvae were subjected to the two choice
assay after 2 hours of the starvation protocol. Data collected for all seven different odorants are shown
in Figure 2. Of all the seven odorants tested, only three odorants showed significant changes in
response indices upon starvation. Acetal (shown in Figure 1), 4, 5 dimethylthiazole, and pentyl acetate
were the three odorants that showed higher RI values for starved state larvae when compared to non
starved larvae. In other words, for these three odorants starved larvae had higher attractiveness
towards odorants compared to non starved larvae. This supported our hypothesis that individual ORNs
might be differentially modulated by the animal s starved state. b) 2nd instar larvae: Next, we looked

Inmate Suicide In Jail
In American jails there is a frightening amount of inmate suicides that occur, and seem to stay under
the radar and unspoken about. There are many different contributing factors that can lead to an inmate
ultimately choosing to take his or her own life. Being sentenced to jail can be difficult for various
inmates to handle and one can have a risk of developing a mental illness if he or she has not already
been diagnosed as mentally ill. A mental illness can become a battle with one s self that some cannot
win, and only see darkness ahead. Inmates being confined in jail can lead to a breaking point, which is
suicide. Other factors include inmates being stressed out and fearing imprisonment. Jails across the
United States have to take initiative regarding inmate suicides or else the suicide rates could increase.
Without treatment, awareness, and prevention there will be no improvement in decreasing the amount
of inmate suicides. The conversation of inmate suicide has to be had between jail officials, inmates,
and society because there is help out there and everyone must know that it is not cowardly to ask for
help.

The rate of flowering can be estimated as a function of either quantitative or qualitative response.
Phalaenopsis generate two bud primordial at each node and it becomes dormant. Under favorable
conditions, the bud emerges into an inflorescence. The signal to trigger the inflorescence is
temperature. Many plant species on practicing diurnal fluctuation in temperatures elicited flowering

The Two-Track Mind
Thinking critically, possessing a biopsychosocial approach and a two track mind, as well as exploring
human strengths continuously emerge in psychology as the four main ideas. Critical thinking refers to
inspecting any ideas given and not automatically believing those concepts. The biopsychosocial
approach discusses human conduct and the perspectives of its examination. Those perspectives
include biologically, psychologically, and socially. Every human shares a similar biology, but
differences arise psychologically and socially. The latter two views differ due to one s experiences,
social interactions, and the culture with which one identifies with. The two track mind refers to the
way the mind stores and sorts information. The human mind does this two ways, knowingly and
unknowingly, hence the term two track mind . Finally, exploring strengths ... Show more content on

tires represents a negative correlation because as the number of miles driven increases, the state of the

Correlation does not provide proof that one variable causes another because it merely predicts the
likelihood of the relationship. Although two ideas can relate to each other, other factors can also
produce those two original elements. For example, low self esteem could lead to depression, just as
depression could lead to low self esteem. Additionally, life experiences and hereditary traits could lead

Canada s Immigration System Act
On June 28, 2012, the Protecting Canada s Immigration System Act (Bill C 31) took effect. This act
was put in place to bring further reforms to the asylum system, add measures to address human
smuggling, and add the requirement to include biometric data as part of a temporary resident visa,
work permit, and study permit application. These changes were claimed to help the system to function
better, cut down wait time, make the process faster, screen applicants better, and to prevent needless
complications. This resulted in many changes to Canada s asylum system. There were four changes
made to the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB). The first change was replacing the
Basis of Claim (BOC) form with the Personal Information Form (PIF). This change meant that people
who make a refugee claim at an office in Canada must submit a completed BOC during their
eligibility interview. If they made a refugee claim at a port of entry then they must submit their BOC
to the IRB no later than 15 days after their claim is referred to the IRB. Another change made was that
the hearings at the (IRB) would be conducted by public servant decision makers rather than people
appointed by the Governor in Council (GIC). Also, hearings for most claimants would be held no later
than 60 days after the refugee claim is referred to the IRB. And finally, for claimants from designated
countries of origin, their hearings would be held no later than 45 days after referral to the IRB for

The Stamp Act Of 1765
When the Stamp Act of 1765 was passed in the Thirteen Colonies, the colonists were compelled to
rethink their loyalty and standing with the British monarchy. The Stamp Act would be the first actual
tax levied upon the colonists, which caused outrage in the Thirteen Colonies. The act would place a
tax on any document and printed paper that they used: such as legal documents, newspapers, and
licenses. All thirteen colonies did not agree that the tax was passed with legality and refused to
acknowledge that such tax existed. They would all band together to ensure that the Stamp Act would
be repealed and would become nonexistent. Two important cities within the colonies that aided and
became a huge influence in the battle against the Stamp Act were New York and Boston. These cities,
which had already contributed significantly in political and cultural means, led the battle against the
Stamp Act. With the passing of the Stamp Act, the citizens of New York and Boston would respond
with riots that included destruction of property, fires, effigies and protests. While the citizens of these
two cities would become voices against the tax, the power of the Sons of Liberty cannot be
undermined. Within the Stamp Act Crisis, the organization of the Sons of Liberty would be formed
and emerge to become powerful in these two cities, and would aid in the struggle against the tax and
the monarchy with strategic plans and guidance. Furthermore, the Sons of Liberty had their own

Comparing the Epic of Gilgamesh, Hesiod s Theogony, and Ovid s Metamorphoses
There are many parallels between the Epic of Gilgamesh, Hesiod s Theogony, and Ovid s
Metamorphoses. The first similarity is immediately apparent: structure. We can view the structure of
the Gilgamesh story as three concentric circles: a story within a story within a story. In the outer
circle, a narrator prepares the audience for the primary narrative, contained within the second circle:
the tale of Gilgamesh s adventures. Within this second circle a third narrative, the flood story, is told to
Gilgamesh by Utanapishtim. Ovid s Metamorphoses is told in a similar way: Ovid starts out by telling
of his intention and invoking the gods help to tell the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Metamorphoses, Ovid tells the reader his intention to tell of bodies changed / to different forms and
invokes the gods to help him with the poem.
This method of framing the tale does another thing: it gives an oral quality to the work. These myths
began as oral tales passed from one generation to the next, which were eventually written down. It is
interesting that the way they are written down reflects the oral nature of the original versions a
storyteller telling a story to an audience. It lends an immediacy to the work, leading us to look for its
applicability to our own times. Because of this immediacy, there is an unintended irony that occurs in
the reading of Gilgamesh. The narrator begins, Notice the strong walls of our city of Uruk! These
walls were built by Gilgamesh . . . Now study the inner walls of our city. Examine the fine brickwork.
These walls, too, surpass all others! (28). The irony is that these walls are probably deeply buried and
cannot be seen, or if excavated, must be merely crumbled remnants of the once impermeable wall.
Another similarity is in the structure of the mythological world. In all three mythologies, the gods
reside in the sky, whether in the heavens or on a mountaintop. Below the sky rests the earth, and
below that, the Underworld. Even the god structure is similar between the Sumerian mythology and
the Greco Roman tradition. There is a usurped sky god (Uranus or Ouranos in Greek

Analysis Of The Poem The Angel Of The House
The Angel in the House
During the Victorian Era in 1837 the period that was ruled by Queen Victoria I, women endured many
social disadvantages by living in a world entirely dominated by men. Around that time most women
had to be innocent, virtuous, dutiful and be ignorant of intellectual opinion. It was also a time
associated with prudishness and repression. Their sole window on the world would, of course, be her
husband. During this important era, the idea of the Angel in the House was developed by Coventry
Patmore and used to describe the ideal women who men longed. Throughout this period, women were
treated inferior to men and were destined to be the husbands Angel in the House .
The poem Coventry Patmore is written from the husband s point of view; Patmore even praises
women throughout the poem. His praise for women only relates to his ability to benefit men. Women
are part of the poem but she is not there to be heard. The reader is meant to see her through her
husband s eyes. Patmore considers women inferior to men and stated that their only purpose is to aid
their husbands. Yet, Patmore holds his angel wife up as a model for all women. Their objectification of
women was customary for extraordinarily complex age and is a consistent theme in Victorian poetry.

Socially Constructed Stereotypes
Socially constructed stereotypes play a role in the way that female professionals are perceived in the
workplace (Wolfson 44). If there were firm wide regulations for professional attire that were
applicable to both women and men, then it would be appropriate. Female lawyers have a long standing
effort of pushing boundaries of what is considered appropriate for the courtroom (Farmer 5). A private
firm can make the determination to enforce a dress code, but it cannot be discriminatory towards
protected classes such as sex or religion, therefore, it is not appropriate for firms to restrict attire
monitoring to female attorneys (Title VII, EEOC).
The mixed motive framework of dress codes is difficult to unravel when it comes to female
professionals.

Aristotle Moral Responsibility Essay
According to Aristotle, we are morally responsible for our actions. Through the analysis of notions
and concepts such as responsibility in terms of voluntary/involuntary actions, incontinence, and
intemperance, we can further understand Aristotle s stance, which is that we are morally responsible
for our actions, and character. I will not only be exploring Aristotle s views, but also the views of Dr.
Dian Hsieh, and Jonathan Barnes, who both reconstruct an argument for moral responsibility from
Aristotle s work. In addition, I will also contrast aspects of Aristotle s view on moral responsibility,

If this needs further proof, consider the practice of rewarding and punishing: if men weren t in control
of their behaviour, there would be no point in rewarding and punishing them. But here s a possible
objection: if I am a thoughtless or careless sort of man, then I can t effectively control my behaviour.
That is no excuse, says Aristotle, because you are responsible for having turned into that man. We
influence the development of all aspects of our personalities by how we choose to spend our time, and
what we choose to do; it is obvious that gambling produces gamblers, and military exercises produces
bravery. Although I cannot be a different sort of man just by deciding to, I remain responsible for
encouraging myself to become the sort of man I have become, just as I cannot stop the stone that I
threw at you, although I remain responsible for having thrown it. Aristotle is confident in holding bad
men responsible for their wickedness, and believes that any argument that could absolve them of their
badness would also deprive good men of their goodness.

Although mindfulness was not related to another study this article addresses, it did share the
correlation found between self compassion and connectedness. This correlation is something that I see
that can mitigate some suicidal ideation.
Research Question The main question posed by this article is whether or not skills in mindfulness are
able to help adolescents navigate the difficulties of their developmental stage (Bluth Blanton, 2014).
Another question that was posed by the article was, if adolescents practice these mindful techniques,
will they become better equipped to handle negative emotions and events.
Research Hypothesis The hypothesis of this article was that adolescents would be able to develop
positive emotion well being and self compassion through the use of mindfulness (Bluth Blanton,
2014). It was theorized that self compassion and mindfulness were interdependent, and those who
practice the mindfulness techniques would be better able to develop positive self regard.
Methodology of Research According to the article, they conducted an online survey with sixty seven
urban high school adolescents. This was followed by the use of Path

The Franklin s Tale Social Class Marriage
Everybody has the desire to seek happiness and true love in marriages. Some may ask; how does one
attain such a desire? Throughout The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer explores the idea of how the best
marriages happen, and The Franklin s Tale seems to be the answer. During the 1300 s people debated
what factors were important in marriages. Some thought wealth, social class, and nobility created the
best marriage. Other than wealth and same social class marriage, each partner must keep a promise to
themselves and to each other. Through Arveragus and Dorigen s marriage and Dorigen s promise to

Antecedent Of Cultural Humility Essay
Antecedents
Antecedents are things that must exist before another can take place (Cutcliffe McKenna, 2015, p.
253). In order for cultural humility to occur, diversity and power imbalance must be present (Foronda,
Baptiste, Reinholdt, Ousman, 2015). Diversity among people can consist of a variety of ethnicities,
cultures, ages, religions, social classes, occupations, or genders. Diversity is an antecedent of cultural
humility, because the concept of cultural humility revolves around certain types of people being open
to other types of people. Another aspect that should be present for cultural humility to manifest is
power imbalance. Inequalities in authority can represent superiority or inferiority of one person or
group, which further indicate a lack of cultural humility.

healthcare members are close minded with their patients or outcomes that their patients may desire,

healthcare team. On the other hand, positive consequences of cultural humility are optimal care,
mutual empowerment, and partnerships (Foronda et al., 2015). Cultural humility can greatly impact
patient care by allowing the patient to feel as though their values and culture are appreciated and
understood by the healthcare team. Meanwhile, the patient will feel as though they are receiving
optimal care and comfort. Mutual empowerment and partnerships can be formed when individuals are

This person is usually in his/her late teens or early 20 s and on up into their 30 s. The gang leaders are
the high command in the gang s structure. This gang member is probably the oldest in the posse and
likely has the smallest criminal record and they often have the power to direct the gang s activity,
whether they are involved or not. There are many different factors that push the at risk to join gangs.
Some common factors are the desire for power, money, protection, and respect. For many of the
individuals these things only seem to be obtainable by joining a gang. Many of the people that join
gangs are lacking social support and get an instant feeling of belonging and identity. Gangs are
involved in all levels of street crime, from extortion, to robbery, to kidnapping, to drug trafficking.
Cocaine is the primary drug of distribution by gangs in America, which have used the cities Chicago,
Cape Town, and Rio de Janeiro to transport drugs internationally. When a gang has taken over a
particular area or turf the gang will charge businesses or people payment for protection , usually from

There is a vast difference of cultures in American society and schools and Obama s goals with using parallelism was to touch the hearts of every race with how the public schooling system is failing these children. We want to talk about the crumbling schools that are stealing the future of black children, and white children, and Asian children, and Hispanic children, and Native American children. He not only acknowledges the races of these children but how poor the school system is. The use of parallelism in this helps create a stronger argument because he shows he s not oblivious to the variety of cultures in America which feeds into the belief that America is home of the free and accepts anyone regardless of race, gender, and religious beliefs. Not only does he use parallelism, he also uses a hyperbole by exaggerating the fact that students futures are being stolen from them with poor education. This is a hyperbole because the public schooling system isn t actually stealing the futures of these children, but he uses this rhetorical strategy to amplify the emotion and relevance of the issues with the public school system. These rhetorical strategies are effective because of the reaction he can get from the audience. He reminds society of the issues in every day American life, and what he d wish to do to fix these issues. He wishes to share the same common beliefs and desires of the common man by focusing on the issues the common man faces day to day. This technique, among its several uses, allows to estimate changes in the mechanical properties of tissue when the presence of a diseases is suspected. A typical use of this technique is in the breast cancer examination: the cancer is often revealed as a stiffening of glandular tissue, which would be normally soft. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Artificial tissues and organs have been developed both to replicate the function of the original organ and to reproduce its mechanical properties under physiologic conditions, in order to improve the chance for the patient to return to normal activities. Several mechanical tests have to be applied for measuring static and dynamic properties of materials and most of them involve applying a force to the material and measuring its displacement. Through these tests, measuring the stress applied and the resulting strain, it is possible to calculate material properties such as the Young modulus, the physical parameter corresponding to the material stiffness. The results of these experiments will depend on many mechanical properties of the material and it is often very common, in order to simplify the mathematical relationships between stresses and strains and improve the interpretation of the responses, to make several assumptions about the material characteristics: The material is assumed to be infinite: this means that boundary conditions and effects can be ignored; The material is assumed to be homogeneous: within the area where the test is performed we can consider only a smaller set of parameters ignoring changes of mechanical properties in space; The material is linearly viscoelastic: the relationship between the applied ... It has come to my understanding that you requested my firm s services regarding proper accounting practices for the acquisition of long term debentures. Therefore, I write to you this memo to address some issues you might be having with your newly obtained debt and to explain how to properly amortize it. I have been informed that you already have an accounting expert that advised you to use the Straight Line method of amortization for the discount on the bond. My expertise lies on the Effective Interest method of amortization. 1. Determining Bond Price To determine the price of the bond, the face value of the bond must be brought to its present value. The rationale behind this comes from an investment principle that considers that the money given up in the present could yield a gain in the long term if used as an investment. To arrive to the present value, we use a market rate that represents the yield the average investor would require to spend money in a new venture (in this particular case, 11%). Therefore, even though the Bond s face value might be $1,000,000, your company is expected to get $924,623.74. The difference between this two numbers, $75,376.26, is considered a discount that you allow for offering a rate that is lower than the rate requested by the investors (in this case, 9%). 2. Amortization of Discount I took the liberty of creating an amortization schedule to help you visualize the immediate difference between straight line and effective interest methods ... Larvae on each half are counted, RI is calculated using simple equation RI =(S C)/(S+C) [S denotes number of larvae on the odorant/test side and C denotes number of larvae towards the control side]. The data from this experiment is presented in Figure 1. When tested for odorant acetal, starved larvae showed higher RI when compared to non starved larvae. In other words, starved larvae have a stronger attractive response towards acetal compared to the non starved larvae. Next, we looked at the olfactory responses of the remaining six odorants from the panel of seven that were mentioned above. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, starved and non starved larvae were subjected to the two choice assay after 2 hours of the starvation protocol. Data collected for all seven different odorants are shown in Figure 2. Of all the seven odorants tested, only three odorants showed significant changes in response indices upon starvation. Acetal (shown in Figure 1), 4, 5 dimethylthiazole, and pentyl acetate were the three odorants that showed higher RI values for starved state larvae when compared to non starved larvae. In other words, for these three odorants starved larvae had higher attractiveness towards odorants compared to non starved larvae. There are many different contributing factors that can lead to an inmate ultimately choosing to take his or her own life. A mental illness can become a battle with one s self that some cannot win, and only see darkness ahead. Inmates being confined in jail can lead to a breaking point, which is suicide. Other factors include inmates being stressed out and fearing imprisonment. Jails across the United States have to take initiative regarding inmate suicides or else the suicide rates could increase. Without treatment, awareness, and prevention there will be no improvement in decreasing the amount of inmate suicides. • 32. Comparing the Epic of Gilgamesh, Hesiod s Theogony, and... Comparing the Epic of Gilgamesh, Hesiod s Theogony, and Ovid s Metamorphoses There are many parallels between the Epic of Gilgamesh, Hesiod s Theogony, and Ovid s Metamorphoses. The first similarity is immediately apparent: structure. We can view the structure of the Gilgamesh story as three concentric circles: a story within a story within a story. In the outer circle, a narrator prepares the audience for the primary narrative, contained within the second circle: the tale of Gilgamesh s adventures. Within this second circle a third narrative, the flood story, is told to Gilgamesh by Utanapishtim. Ovid s Metamorphoses is told in a similar way: Ovid starts out by telling of his intention and invoking the gods help to tell the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Metamorphoses, Ovid tells the reader his intention to tell of bodies changed / to different forms and invokes the gods to help him with the poem. This method of framing the tale does another thing: it gives an oral quality to the work. These myths began as oral tales passed from one generation to the next, which were eventually written down. It is interesting that the way they are written down reflects the oral nature of the original versions a storyteller telling a story to an audience. It lends an immediacy to the work, leading us to look for its applicability to our own times. Because of this immediacy, there is an unintended irony that occurs in the reading of Gilgamesh. The narrator begins, Notice the strong walls of our city of Uruk! These walls were built by Gilgamesh . . . Now study the inner walls of our city. Examine the fine brickwork. These walls, too, surpass all others! (28). The irony is that these walls are probably deeply buried and cannot be seen, or if excavated, must be merely crumbled remnants of the once impermeable wall. Another similarity is in the structure of the mythological world. In all three mythologies, the gods reside in the sky, whether in the heavens or on a mountaintop. Below the sky rests the earth, and below that, the Underworld. Even the god structure is similar between the Sumerian mythology and the Greco Roman tradition. • 33. Analysis Of The Poem The Angel Of The House The Angel in the House During the Victorian Era in 1837 the period that was ruled by Queen Victoria I, women endured many social disadvantages by living in a world entirely dominated by men. Around that time most women had to be innocent, virtuous, dutiful and be ignorant of intellectual opinion. It was also a time associated with prudishness and repression. Their sole window on the world would, of course, be her husband. During this important era, the idea of the Angel in the House was developed by Coventry Patmore and used to describe the ideal women who men longed. Throughout this period, women were treated inferior to men and were destined to be the husbands Angel in the House . The poem Coventry Patmore is written from the husband s point of view; Patmore even praises women throughout the poem. His praise for women only relates to his ability to benefit men. Women are part of the poem but she is not there to be heard. The reader is meant to see her through her husband s eyes. Patmore considers women inferior to men and stated that their only purpose is to aid their husbands. Yet, Patmore holds his angel wife up as a model for all women. Their objectification of women was customary for extraordinarily complex age and is a consistent theme in Victorian poetry. Education was not equal between the sexes and neither between the classes. A private firm can make the determination to enforce a dress code, but it cannot be discriminatory towards protected classes such as sex or religion, therefore, it is not appropriate for firms to restrict attire monitoring to female attorneys (Title VII, EEOC). That is no excuse, says Aristotle, because you are responsible for having turned into that man. We influence the development of all aspects of our personalities by how we choose to spend our time, and what we choose to do; it is obvious that gambling produces gamblers, and military exercises produces bravery. Although I cannot be a different sort of man just by deciding to, I remain responsible for encouraging myself to become the sort of man I have become, just as I cannot stop the stone that I threw at you, although I remain responsible for having thrown it.
