Audit Controls Paper
1) The importance of access controls in addition to audit controls.
In addition to audit controls, access controls are important because they help reduce the risk of internal
data breaches by preventing unauthorized work staff to have access to ePHI. Only individuals with a
need to know should have access to ePHI (Brodnik, Finehart Thompson, Reynolds, 2012, p. 304).
Additionally, Brodnik et al., (2012), states that access controls are used to aid in the authentication,
audit and authorization process by implementing unique specifications such as: a unique user
identification number, emergency access procedures, having an automatic log offs, and by having
unique specifications within the system that allows for encryption and decryption ... Show more

Different types of technical control methods for person or entity authentication are password (with a
username or personal identifier), smart card, token, key or biometrics (Brodnik et al., 2012, p. 305).
That said, the best form of authentication that best meets the Person or Entity Authentication standard
for different healthcare applications is by having a combination of user identification along with a
password (AHIMA, 2010). Person or entity authentications are necessary to verify a person s identity
and is best used when individuals are accessing ePHI. Utilizing a combination of a password and
identification enforces stricter security measures by ensuring users are being identified and

Animal Vs Asian Elephants
Asian elephants are a big mammal but let me tell you more about them and what makes them different
from the other elephants. Asian elephants live in Nepal, India and Southeast Asia scrub forests and
rainforests. Asian elephants have been around for over 55 million years elephants are very successful
animals they found many different fossils and they have said over 300 species have walked the earth
over a long period. Elephants eat roots, grasses, fruit, and bark. An adult elephant can consume up to
300 pounds of food in a single day. Elephants form deep family bonds and live in tight matriarchal
family groups of related females called a herd. When a calf is born, it is raised and protected by the
whole matriarchal herd. Female elephants live in a herd. Male elephants have very different social
needs, males are driven out of the family group as they approach sexual maturity, males spend as
much as 95% of their lives alone. When it comes to babies getting attacked by predators, the whole
herd pitches in.
After five years of rearing the young elephants, the mother gives birth to a new infant weaning the
now adolescent calf at the same time. The subspecies of the elephants are African and Asian. In Africa
there is two different species the African bush elephant, and the African forest elephant. In Asia they
just have the Asian elephant. In the early times of 2000 b.c. elephants because of the size they were

Imitation Of Life Is A Film Directly Focusing On The...
Imitation of Life is a film directly focusing on the relationships between mother and daughter.
Although the main characters, Annie and Sara Jane, and Lora and Susie, seem similar in their
relationships, the film juxtaposes them in terms of race. On the surface, the relationships presented
are, at best, considered to be normal struggles between mother and daughter. Analyzing the specific
trials and problems will reveal a difference in Black motherhood and White motherhood. Annie and
Sara Jane face racial and identity issues, that cause the relationship to shatter. Lora and Susie
encounter a sense of abandonment and loss of love, which in turn creates a divide between them.
While jointly living, and raising their girls together, Annie and ... Show more content on

By her obvious exaggeration of a Southern domestic worker, she is playing into the stereotype that her
mother has created for herself. Sara Jane chooses to get revenge after Annie askes her to take
something out to the guests, as that request could associate Sara Jane with her mother s race and
domestic servitude. Sara Jane wants so desperately to pass as a white girl, but is constantly reminded
of her race just by her mother s appearance. Their relationship is completely shattered by the end of
the film, with Sara Jane refusing to have anything to do with her mother. The dynamic between Lora
and Susie as mother and daughter is slightly different, with their relationship focusing on Susie s
feelings of abandonment and missing love. One of the only confrontational scenes pertaining to these
issues between Susie and Lora occurs near the end of the film, with Lora becoming upset that her
daughter did not tell her about her budding love of Steve. Annie spills Susie s secret infatuation, and
this causes Lora to confront her daughter about her romantic feelings. Amidst this quarrel, Susie
exclaims, You ve given me everything but yourself! and proceeds to list of the ways that her mother
tried to contact her, without physically being near her in person. This outburst is a

Meaning Of Music In Chicago
What is music? Music in the dictionary means an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and
emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color; the tones
or sounds employed, occurring in single line (melody) or multiple lines (harmony), and sounded or to
be sounded by one or more voices or instruments, or both. Music in essences has a versatile aspect
that cannot be defined to real musicians as the quoted definition from the dictionary. The real
definition of music is what every single individual who listens, plays, or sings it can describe what
music is to them and the true meaning of it. Understanding what music is to everyone is key to

20 years. She was a young mother and wife, which was not untypical during this time. She was the
first born of four children, and later lived in a blended household. Her father worked in copper mines,
logging, and road construction. While her mother on the other hand was a stay at home mom who took

sexuality. Her grandmother was also a stay at home mother, choosing not to go into the workforce.

The Development History Of Gis Essay
Essay on the development history of GIS Introduction This essay is about the development history of
GIS (Geographical Information System). In the next paragraph the work of Charles Piquet in 1832 and
John Snow in 1854 is mentioned. Furthermore the paragraph traces the development history between
1960 and 2014. It lists the development history from the Canadian GIS through the development of
GPS until the launch of French satellite SPOT 7.The following paragraph defines the four major
development periods, each with two either general examples or examples from different countries.
The next Paragraph lists the most recent developments in GIS application, e.g. XML and GML, and
explains why these mark up languages are important for a GIS. It also mentions the development of
mobile GIS and how even a newcomer can learn how GIS works with Learn ArcGIS. Finally a
conclusion summarises the essay briefly. Development history of GIS The following paragraph shows
the development history of GIS. The development of GIS started probably in France, with the
geographer Charles Picquet when he applied spatial analysis in epidemiology ( History of GIS , 2012)
in 1832. But the first geographical method to specify a cholera outbreak was used by John Snow in
1854. Although map making is far older than Charles Picquet and John Snow, were their works
milestones in the history of GIS ( History of GIS , 2012).The following are examples which affected
the development of GIS between 1960 until 2014:

Dawn Octavia Butler

7/25/2016
In both Dawn by Octavia Butler, and District 9 we see the arrival of aliens and the dawn of a post
human future. While the Oankali of Dawn and the Prawns of District 9 differ in their appearances and
behavior there are some striking themes from both. The first is that as humans we are insecure,
inadequate creatures to guide our own future. As both stories progress humans are forced to examine
things that we were once confident in, whether it is Dawn s portrayal emasculating the human males
sexually. Dawn also evokes fears of the queer, specifically transgendered, and miscegenation. District

The Importance Of Pro-Bono Work
The first time that I began to appreciate the medical field was when I was wandering around Saint Luc
hospital at midnight, observing the hustle and bustle of the Emergency Room a few days prior to my
brain surgery. That initial pinprick of gratitude has morphed into a passion to help others, as well as an
admiration for health care professionals particularly neurosurgeons. The precision that lies behind
every stroke of their scalpels fills me with awe; for instance, the only remainder of my surgery is a
miniscule scar on my temple. Their dedication to helping others is also admirable; most of the
physicians that I have spoken with do quite a bit of pro Bono work. On account of this, I hope to
follow in their footsteps by also becoming a neurosurgeon.

Galileo s Creation In Condition Essay
I do not feel obligated to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason and
intellect has intended us to Fargo is use by Galileo Galilei. One of the main reasons, that the scientific
revolution started was because of the Renaissances was beginning and everyone was starting to think
for themselves and Galileo was one of the leaders that caused the Scientific revolution or at least
spread it. One major thing that leads to these scientific discoveries they were stuck in religion and they
said that God made it like that and he wanted it so and it s not for us to question it. That was the
mentality of those people and maybe also ignorance that is why Galileo said that God gave us the

In hard cash terms, men earn on average, £1.83 more per hour than women do.
Women s work is still seen as that of love labour , that of working in the home raising a family and
taking care of the housework without pay. Men on the other hand are seen as the breadwinners, their
work is paid labour. Their job is to go out into paid employment and provide for their family.
There are two knock on effects of women staying a home minding the family. Firstly they are not
financially independent. They do not earn any money and are dependent on income received from
their partners. Because nobody gets paid for rearing a family it s status as an occupation is at the
bottom of the ladder and because women are dependant financially for money on their husband it
means they in the past have had less input into the decisions affecting the family resulting in no input
into the decisions affecting society. A woman s place was in the home. A second effect of women s
position in the family is that they are often isolated from each other and from society in general.
Unlike a worker they have little opportunity of meeting, sharing experiences, they on their own have
little power to change the conditions they find themselves in.
The family is a trap for women today as much as for women at the beginning of the industrial
revolution. As mentioned above, women are paid on average 2/3 of the wage that men are paid, so

The Yorkshire Canal And The Industrial Revolution
Imagine looking outside your bedroom window in the morning smelling the bacon and eggs your
mom made you. You are peering out the window and witnessing the Yorkshire Canal being made. You
suddenly comprehend that the culture around you will be changing. It will lead to new innovations and
opportunities. The first canal ever made in Yorkshire England in 1700, (Canal Cruise). The canal was
advancing the Industrial Revolution by making it more accessible to get around.
First and foremost the canal helped progress the industrial revolution by making coastal trade faster.
Moving heavy goods at sea along the coast of Britain was much cheaper than moving the same items
along the road network, and coastal trade was a key aspect of Britain s economy, (Shirley Burchill).
Coastal trade was the cheapest way to transit goods, but it was also very slow. Between 1650 and
1750, before the industrial revolution half, a million tonnes of a canal was moved from Newcastle in
the north to London in the south, (Shirley Burchill). Therefore since the canal was a man made water
it caused coastal trade to be able to transport goods from the north to the south of England. The type of
goods transported was brick, coal, and iron, (The Industrial Revolution and the changing face of
Britain). Moreover, bricks were used for many things, such as for houses, barriers, and tombs. Bricks
were very important in the society because when they ran out of stones there ultimate result was

Any organization, no matter what kind, can experience workplace violence. Workplace violence often
includes behaviors such as physical assault, threats, harassment, intimidation, and bullying (Mathis,

involve physical harm that one may do to another, it can be in the form of verbal harm. Verbal threats,
intimidation and bullying are the most common forms of workplace violence and the least reported. A
form of bullying can be through gossip and rumors. Gossip and rumors can be just as dangerous and

How Does Delillo Present The Fear Of Death In White Noise
The fear of death is one of the most prominent themes in White Noise. Everything in the novel from
Hitler to the toxic airborne event circles back to how human beings are subconsciously afraid of
dying. DeLillo s novel displays how life attempts to push this fear away, almost saying out of sight,
out of mind . Yet, as we see in the characters of Jack and Babette, the fear continues to rear its ugly
head and fill them with terror. DeLillo shows this close relationship between life and death. He could
be trying to show how death lingers dangerously in the background of our lives. The toxic event
changed the way Jack Gladney feared death. Not only did it make his fear worse, but it made him
absolutely terrified of it. During the event, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be based on the fact that no matter who you are or what you do, death is inevitable. I
believe that Jack relates to a Hitler like persona because he relates to this idea of life credit . When
Jack is talking to Murray, Murray mentions that to kill another person is to gain life credit. The more
people you kill, the more credit you store up (DeLillo pg. 277). This is similar to Hitler, from my own
knowledge, I already know that Hitler thought the more people he killed the more power he would
gain and the more invincible he would feel. Jack seems to have the same mindset because he thinks
killing a man will give him more time. He is almost trying to cheat death and outlive the chemical
inside of him. I feel like Jack thinks that if he kills someone, he gains whatever years they had left. As
any rational person would know, this is just simply impossible, but Jack seems to believe this illusion
is his ticket to maximizing the time he has left. The common theme between these two passages is that
death is an inescapable process. I found it very interesting that the toxic event happened before Jack
shot Willie Mink. The toxic event only made it more clear to Jack that he is going to die because of his
chemical exposure, however it also hastened his dying process. This is why I find it so strange that
Jack tried to kill Mr. Mink. From my understanding, Jack was under the impression that killing
someone would extend his life, however he knows that he

The Bravest of Individuals Is One Who Obeys His or Her...
The bravest of individuals is one who obeys his or her conscience, was once stated by J.F Clarke,
when this quote is broken down one may notice the amount of truth behind it. J.F Clarke s
interpretation of braveness and conclusion on the topic of obeying their conscience is rather intelligent
due to the belief of inner senses of what is right or wrong will lead to the right choices in life. Two
examples of literature that strongly support this quote can be found in Of Mice And Men by John
Steinbeck, as well as The Crucible by Arthur Miller. The use of literary elements, such as rising
action, dramatic irony, mood and foreshadowing.
In Arthur Miller s, The Crucible, John Proctor is faced with a life or death situation. Even ... Show

In this work of literature, George Milton s faced with a situation of what is right and wrong and which
inner sense to listen to. George s long time friend and mentally handicapped friend Lennie Smalls has
just killed Curley s wife, inside of a barnyard accidentally. Lennie attempts to run away from the
whole situation, but George knows exactly where he will be, and that is at the exact spot he told him
to go to if there was trouble. As George arrives at the river Lennie was instructed to go to, George
realizes he has a great problem, should he kill his long time best friend and save him from the
swarming angry mob of ranchers, or turn him in and let them have there way. As George s inner
senses battle, he realizes what he must do and that is to put Lennie out of his misery and self
entrapment and set him free once and for all. George makes Lennies death quick and painless as any
good friend would, but he can not seem to shake the sense of guilt and anguish he is experiencing. As
George lovingly kills Lennie he portrays his bravery and sense of what is right and wrong all by
listening to what his inner senses and consciousness led him towards. John Steinbecks use of literary
terms enhances the sense of bravery and drama that this scene of a friend killing another brings. The
mood that John Steinbeck sets for George s attitude towards Lennie is

Sexual Orientation Discrimination in the Military
In September 2011, the United States lifted the Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy (DADT), which restricted
gay, lesbian, and bisexuals from openly serving in the military. This was the first time in American
history in which people of every sexual orientation could serve openly ( 11 Facts About, n.d.). This
was a momentous occasion for some and not so much for others. For those military members that had
served in secret and those members that were firmly against gays and lesbians, this repeal had
different meaning. Both groups contained members that have served in the military for years and were
products of the Former President Bill Clinton s 1993 Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy. For many soldiers
of this era, communication issues arose due ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the challenges and following numerous public debates and congressional hearings, President
Clinton has able to reach a compromise in 1993. The Don t Ask, Don t Tell, Don t Pursue policy
passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1993 was the compromise
outcome of Clinton s campaign promise to repeal the ban on military service by homosexuals (Rich,
Schutten Rogers, 2012). Soldiers would not be actively screened and as long as their sexual
orientation was kept personal, there would be no adverse actions taken. Under the Don t Ask, Don t
Tell between 1993 and 2011, over 14,000 military men and women were discharged due to their
sexual orientation ( 11 Facts About, n.d.).
The Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy did not explicitly state that gay, lesbian or bisexual was wrong. In
essence by creating a policy that required a person to hide their sexual orientation the US conveyed
the message to the military and the civilian population that gay, lesbian or bisexual was still wrong.
The 1993 policy did not strengthen communications between military members of varying sexual
orientation, in essence if strengthened the barrier by avoiding the subject. A study discussed by Bonnie
Moradi from the University of Florida revealed, sexual orientation concealment was correlated
significantly and negatively with social cohesion (Moradi,

Essay On Navajo People
History of the Navajo People
The people who were going to become the Navajo tribe settled in what would be the mountains of
New Mexico in or around the 1600 s. Prior to that time the area was the home of the Anasazi (The
Ancient Ones.) The Anasazi had lived there for approximately 1200 years but, for unexplained
reasons, they abandoned their highly developed dwellings and moved westward and southward.
A new group of people, the Athapascans, migrated from what are now Canada, Alaska, and the
American Northwest southward to settle in the Southwest of America. Some of this group of Southern
Athapascans settled the mountainous region of New Mexico and came to be known as the Navajos, or

the Civil War. The Army returned in 1863 and General Carleton, Commandant of the Military
Department of New Mexico ordered Kit Carson to move the Dine from their homes to a reservation
that he had created in the plains of eastern New Mexico, Bosque Redondo. Carson carried out the
orders by slaughtering men, women and children, destroying livestock and burning their crops. One of
the final and bloodier battles took place in the Canyon de Chelly. When the Dine finally surrendered
they were forced to walk from their homelands to their new place of residence several hundred miles
away. This came to me known as The Long Walk. In 1868 United States enters into a peace treaty with
the Navajo Tribe granting it a 3.5 million acre reservation.
In 1882 Executive Order establishes a 2.4 million acre reservation for use and occupancy by the Hopi

Ice to the Eskimos
Spolestra articulates 19 principles or ground rules of jump start marketing, which are:
1. You ve got to want to clip on the wires and turn up the juice. In other words you and your team
must be highly motivated to try new things to reposition your product.
2. Don t fool yourself into thinking you re somebody else accept the realistic limitations of your core
product or service, and build from there.
3. Increase the frequency of purchases by your customers. No matter how poor your current product or
service, you must have some customers or clients. One key strategic dimension that you should be
thinking about is how to augment and reposition your product in order to sell more to this group.
4. Get the name and address of the end ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Copies were then given to the immediate customer who could then pass one along to his or her boss.
14. Run interference for your budding superstars. People who share a passion and a talent for jump
start marketing are invaluable, and should be nurtured and encouraged within your organization.
15. Make it too good of a deal on purpose. This is a fundamental point. Spolestra maintains that you
must find some way of repositioning or reformulating your product or service to make it something
that your potential customers simply cannot refuse. With the New Jersey Nets, one of the ways they
did this was to package a barbecue family dinner and drinks with the game. They managed their costs
so that the dinner alone was a bargain for the ticket price, to say nothing of the game being thrown in
as part of the deal. Tickets were sold by the thousands, the games were standing room only, and the
franchise made lots of money. Again, we see this approach of de emphasizing the core product (the
quality of the team), and augmenting and repositioning an enhanced product in its place.
16. Feel free to butt into other departments. Jump start marketing cannot be confined to the marketing
or sales department alone. Because it involves (sometimes drastically) reformulating the product or
service, it must cut across the various departments in the organization. The people who do this may
run into problems, and this is where rule # 14 comes

Philosophy Of Rene Descartes
In modern philosophy, reality is viewed in a twofold manner: the immaterial mind on the one hand
and the extended body on the other. Also, we think of reality and divided between the I subject and an
external world of objects. This line of thinking is attributed to Rene Descartes, widely credited as the
father of modern philosophy. Descartes was a proponent of metaphysical dualism. He believed that the
mind and the body are distinct substances. To Descartes, we can reach certain knowledge about the
mind and consciousness through introspection. He reasons that we cannot doubt our existence as
thinking things because the fact that we think is undeniable. However, we tend to be fooled by our
sensory experience of the world around us, so it is possible to put the world outside of our minds into
doubt. To Descartes, philosophy is about attaining certain knowledge. We look upon the world as
knowing subjects. Descartes believed that we cannot properly philosophize without first establishing
certain principles to guide our investigation. We must doubt everything that can be doubted, and only
when we reach a position that cannot be doubted can we begin our quest to understand reality. Since
we begin with the thinking thing, the Cogito, the mind has ontological precedence over the body.
From Descartes onwards, the ultimate questions of philosophy were viewed as being epistemic in
nature. The big questions in philosophy were about the relationship of the thinking subject to the

to established rules and principles; based on the principle that a person cannot be deprived of life or

American Government (9th Edition). Ohio: Strayed University.) The origin of due process is generally
understood to be found in chapter 39 of the Magna Carta. It is also found in the fifth and fourteenth

to emerge from the English common law tradition. (Carey, George W. (May 10, 2001). Due Process.

A trial in which the judge allows illegally seized evidence to be used, or in which the defendant has no
access to an attorney, is forced to testify against himself, or is denied the ability to bring witnesses
favorable to his cause, is not a trial that meets the standard of due process of law. The men who
drafted the Bill of Rights knew this, not only from their experience during the Colonial era, but also
from the history of Great Britain, which ever since the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215 had been
committed to expanding the rule of law. Today we tend to emphasize the relationship of rights to
individual liberty, but even those rights which are most identified as individual such as the rights of
persons accused of crimes still have a community basis. Rights in American history are not designed
to free the individual from community norms; rather, they exist to promote a responsible liberty, to
allow each and every one to be free from arbitrary power. In the areas of free expression, the Bill of
Rights carves out a space where dissenting voices may be freely heard, both for the benefit of the
individual as well as for the sake of the community. Rights of any kind are the community s protection
against the unwarranted interference in daily life by an all powerful central government. Rights
liberate both the community and the individual. Regarding the rights of the accused, the

Comparing Poems To His Coy Mistress And My Last Duchess
Poems To His Coy Mistress and My Last Duchess present both similarities and differences. Certainly,
both hold a similar state, in terms of the setting, and this is based on conformity. In spite of that, it is a
concept of upper class versus the outcome of reality. Essentially, the meaning is conveyed by speech
patterns and tone of voice. In other words, the themes are similar but the perspective is altered based
on the Speaker s attitude and thoughts. Ultimately, both are related, but by a certain class of status and
being justified in their own way.
First and foremost, the attitude determines the speakers motive and personality. The Speaker in To His
Coy Mistress is left nameless, however the speaker in My Last Duchess is a Duke. The tone is
established by rhyme, sound effects, imagery and diction. In To His Coy Mistress, the speakers
attitude is revealed with excitement, passion, and lust. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hamlet-Identity Crisis
Shakespeare s Hamlet is arguably one of the best plays known to English literature. It presents the
protagonist, Hamlet, and his increasingly complex path through self discovery. His character is of an
abnormally complex nature, the likes of which not often found in plays, and many different theses
have been put forward about Hamlet s dynamic disposition. One such thesis is that Hamlet is a young
man with an identity crisis living in a world of conflicting values.
An identity crisis can be defined as a psychosocial state or condition of disorientation and role
confusion occurring especially in adolescents as a result of conflicting internal and external
experiences, pressures, and expectations and often producing acute anxiety. ... Show more content on

Claudius is the closest of all the characters as to the cause of Hamlet s insanity, that is, if he is actually
insane. He thinks that Hamlet s madness is caused by deep melancholy.
Ever since the death of his father, Hamlet has been deep in sorrow. He has become greatly
introspective and muses on his life. Even before the complication of his dead father s request, Hamlet
s sorrow at his loss is so great that he wishes his too too solid flesh would melt (1:2, 129), but only
because the Everlasting (had) fix d his cannon gainst self slaughter (1: 2, 131 132). He is
disenchanted with the world in which things rank and gross in nature possess it merely (1:2 136 137).
When he tells Horatio that he do(es) not set his life at a pin s fee (1:4, 65), it is showing his lack of lust
for life due to his melancholy. His new task does not divert his attention from his sadness but
complicates and helps it grow until he feels that this world is a prison. (2:2, 254). When he sees that
the players can summon up so much passion over fiction he berates himself for being a coward, for,
when he should act he like a whore, (must) unpack his heart with words (2:2,590). Hamlet s next
thoughts of death are not in the usual tone. He debates whether to be, or not to be (3:1, 56) in a
reflective mood. He does not mention his other tribulations, but rather muses on life and death with a

Pros And Cons Of Permanent Life Insurance
According to Fundamentals of Financial Planning, life insurance is divided into two categories, term
and permanent (Dalton, Gillice, Dalton Longdon, 2015, pp.224 225). Term life is insurance for a

Windows versus Linux
Windows, and Linux are very different operating systems that are also very similar in multiple ways.
Windows was first sold on November 20, 1985 under the name Windows 1.0. It was revolutionary for
it s time. People had been used to using command line interface to type out there commands. Windows
1.0 allowed for them to just point and click on what they wanted. Then, along came Linux a few years
later. Linux was revolutionary because it was Unix like and it was open source. Open source meant
that anyone could access the source code to tailor it to their liking. This has allowed multiple different
versions of Linux to be produced since then including one called Lindows. Lindows is exactly what

Linux also started with a command line interface like Windows. There are many similarities between
the two. Whether or not someone selects to use it is all based on preference. A detailed evaluation will
often reveal that Windows has more features, and is easier to sue than Linux. When I took a survey of
my peers it revealed that ninety percent of end users preferred to use Windows over Linux. I asked
these people why they preferred Windows to be given multiple reasons. Some said that they preferred
to use an operating system that was native to them since they had grown up using Windows. Others
said that they liked the features better, and liked the innovations. When I asked about Lindows they
said that it would just not be the same especially considering that Linux in it s native form can not run
.exe applications which has become a major part of the typical end users daily application usage. Truth
be told however if someone was just going to browse the internet to check e mail, and perform other
miscellaneous tasks there is no distinction based on operating system. The major problem comes in
when a user needs to use specific applications or software made for Windows. Linux is a valuable
asset if you are looking to host a server but do not want to purchase Microsoft server which is the
Windows equivalency. It is easy to use, maintain, and valuable to any network that requires a server.

North American Craton The North American Craton, or the core of the North American continent,
makes up much of the interior of present day Canada and the United States. This area is home to the
earliest tectonic activity responsible for the creation of North America, dating back billions of years
ago. In the beginning, volcanic island chains, found near ancient oceanic plate subduction zones,
slowly formed and thickened into new continental crusts. Eventually these continents, due to their
size, became more buoyant than their surrounding ocean basins; thus, allowing them to begin

The oldest sedimentary rocks found here were originally deposited when North America was still
located near the equator, beginning around ~350 million years ago. During this time, periods of
shallow sea flooding left various sands and muds across much of the craton, which eventually formed
into sandstone, limestone, and shale. The landscapes of the national parks on the platform were later
shaped by the interaction of these sedimentary layers with the environmental conditions in which they
became located. Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, for example, is the result of groundwater slowly
dissolving the ancient subsurface limestone, creating the largest cave system on earth with over 346
miles of known passageways today. Similar formations can be seen in places like the Carlsbad
Caverns in New Mexico. Regions of this type are generally characterized as karst topographies. There
are also younger areas of the platform where erosion can be seen but, more predominantly at the
surface level, like Badlands National Park in South Dakota, for example. The gradual uplift of the

The Monster Of Living With Grief

The Monster of Living with Grief
As Keanu Reeves once said, Grief changes shapes, but it never ends ( Tragic ). When it comes to grief
there are usually five shapes or stages that people go through: denial, anger, bargaining, depression
and, finally, acceptance. The book A Monster Calls, by Patrick Ness, is about a young boy who is
struggling with school, bullies, friends, and family when his mother develops a terminal illness. He is
visited by the monster, a massive yew tree, who comes alive to teach Conor the ways of the world. He
also teaches Conor the truth in order to move past his mother s sickness. Ness shows how people in
both literature and real life tend to go through five stages of grief while dealing with a loved one who
has a terminal illness because of the overwhelming lamentation it inflicts.
The first stage of grief is as the sharks say in Finding Nemo, DENIAL. In the book, Conor s grandma
told him that his mother s condition would not get better with one of the new treatments. He denied it
by saying, The treatments are making her better... (42). Even though the treatments had not worked,
Conor refused to believe that the treatments will not work because he needs his mother to get better.
The American Psychological Association says that most people deny the problem because it is easier
to distance oneself from friends or family. Once a person isolates from those who can help, it can lead

Humanism In The Renaissance
Europeans emerging into the new era of the Renaissance came upon the deep interest in Latin and
Greek literature, whom later took the name humanists . Humanism was a new education plan that
valued evidence and reason and was influenced by ancient literature from a time when scholars like
Plato and Socrates based their teachings with scientific evidence rather than religious teaching. In the
effect of the Bubonic plague, many Europeans lost faith when they were battered with the epidemic
that drastically decreased the population and in effect, doubted the church and it s teachings. As the
medieval time period reached it s end, society (mainly scholars at first) became more educated of
secular ideas. Therefore, experimented with debates and wrote texts to defend a broader education
system not only based on medieval church teachings (Of course, inventions like the printing press in
the 1440s highly impacted the spread of teachings and texts which allowed the idea to become more
widely known in a shorter period of time than was attempted by past scholars). The impact and growth
of secularism and individualism in effect of humanism from the 1400s to 1700s rests highly on
humanists like Raphael, Marsilio Ficino and .....who emphasized the teachings of humanism
corresponding with the study of ancient texts which modified the educational system and

In short, Cloud computing models allow access to computer resources and information anywhere
provided a connection is present. They provide shared pools of sources including networks processing
power, data storage, and specialized user applications. Examples of these services include webmail,
networking sites, online file storage, and online business applications. The technology under
discussion has five main characteristics that enable it to run efficiently. Its first characteristic is the on
demand self service. A consumer has the capacity to unilaterally access services in a timely fashion
devoid of any human interaction with every service provider. Another trait is that the technique has a
broad network access because services are available over the network. It is crucial to point out that
networks are accessible via standard mechanisms that promote use of heterogeneous client platforms.
Therefore, this element improves the efficiency of cloud computing. The third trait is rapid elasticity
where capabilities (of access to information) can be provisioned elastically and released automatically.
It follows that capabilities often appear to be unlimited hence, released to consumers at any time. The
fourth characteristic of cloud computing is resource pooling where computing resources are pooled
using a multi tenant model in order to serve

The Burden Of Proof Is The Duty Of A Party
Introduction
The burden of proof is the duty of a party in a trial to produce the evidence that will shift the
conclusion away from the default position, to that party s own position. In a legal dispute, one party is
initially presumed to be correct and gets the benefit of the doubt, while the other side bears the burden
of proof. When a party bearing the burden of proof meets their burden, the burden of proof switches to
the other side. Burdens may be of different kinds for each party, in different phases of litigation.
(Wikipedia, 2017) For all cases, it is the responsibility of the prosecution to prove beyond reasonable
doubt that the defendant is guilty and vice versa for the defense. To start, the prosecution gave their
argument: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The applicable code of the prosecution was to prove beyond reasonable doubt rather than just
speculation on the case and learning about what the actual presented evidence consists of.
The reason the O.J. Simpson s case is pivotal in the crimes in the United States of America is the
necessity of the prosecution to prove a case beyond reasonable doubt; the standard that no other
logical explanation can be derived from the facts except that the defendant committed the crime,
thereby overcoming the presumption that a person is innocent until proven guilty (Beyond a
Reasonable Doubt, 2008). Despite being a first degree murder case and a prima facie case, OJ
Simpson s was acquitted. The case came with a high public awareness concerning the prevalence of
domestic violence and difference. Also in the case of Casey; there was an expectation of conviction
due to the first evidence was given by the prosecution.
Opening Statements
The defense attorney was more convincing as compared to the prosecution. The attorney directs the
jury to seek what transpired and not to base their position on investigation directed to one person only.
He points out that the defense had a desperate investigation full of speculation and guessing. It came
down to a belief the state did not prove its case because it could not prove how Caylee died. Human
decomposition made it impossible to prove the mode of Caylee s death with

David Sedaris Sarcasm Rhetorical Analysis
Though difficult to pick up David Sedaris employs the rhetoric strategies of Sarcasm, Irony and
Understatement. The occurrence of irony rests over the entire piece because as Sedaris describes his
special problems and tics and habits the audience becomes aware that he is suffering from OCD,
despite those in the essay being unaware of it. There is also situational irony for example when his
father tells him that: College is the best thing that can ever happen to you and Sedaris comments He
was right . This is ironic because it leads the audience to assume he might have overcome is Disorder,
when actually he was referring to discovering drugs, drinking, and smoking . This emphasizes how his
disorder was never taking serious enough

Verizon Argument Analysis
Verizon has a new commercial where the whole ad is based on the slogan half fast internet. Go ahead,
say it out loud. The entire commercial s dialogue has various people, mostly families, including a
mother in front of her child, saying half fast instead of half a$$ed. Clearly, Verizon hopes that a funny
play on word expression, not normally allowed in commercials, will drive sales. The idea of the
commercial series is that most broadband providers have slow upload speeds, making them only half
fast. So, the actors in the commercial complain of the half fast job their Internet is doing when they are
posting pictures or music to the Web. The commercials are highly amusing and certainly stick with the
consumer whether they like or dislike the content. Many blogs and posts on the internet express that

At the end of the day, the purpose of advertising is to sell. Marketers who ignore this fundamental
usually get into trouble. (Chimoff, 2014) Verizon has been a strong competitor in the electronic
communication arena for years. Verizon totes that consumers are looking to get the latest devices, but
these devices are only as good as the network they are on. They boast to be the network with the most
coverage availability and fastest internet speeds. Fiber optic technology provides the most efficient
and reliable way to transmit data to your home. As the largest national provider to offer 100% fiber
optics straight to the home, Verizon s FiOS delivers a faster entertainment and communication
experience simply by transmitting data as pulses of light through hair thin bundles of glass. While
other cable companies connect to homes using copper, FiOS stands alone using the latest technology
that can support future innovations in communication and

The Stages Of Developmental Psychology
Developmental psychology is the scientific study of how and why human beings change over the
course of their life .it is primary concerned with infants and children; the field has expanded now to
include more stages of development including the entire lifespan.
If we cease to learn, we die Albert Einstein
Many psychologists have proposed stage theories of development, which argue that people pass
through stages in specific order with challenges related to each age and different capacities at each
different stage. development is the series of age related changes that happen over the course of a life
span(Paul B BALTES 1987). From this defintion alone of the development of humans it would be
ignorant and very simplistic not to take the stance that indeed despite developmental psychology was
originally concerned with early life the field has now gained more research that development is ...

The progression classifies the stages precisely from the sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete
operational and formal operational. Piaget stressed the significance of schemas in cognitive
development, and explained how they were developed or learnt. A schema can be named as a set of
connected mental accounts of the word, which we use to understand and to react to circumstances. The
assumption is that we ware house these mental representations and apply them as needed. One of the
chief arguments in developmental psychology centres around whether development is continuous or
discontinuous. Those psychologists who support the continuous view of development suggest that
development involves gradual and ongoing changes throughout the life span, with performance in the
initial stages of development stipulating the foundation of skills and capabilities needed for the next

Effects Of Sylmar Earthquake On San Fernando Valley
One of the most significant earthquakes to hit the San Fernando Valley in the past was the 1971 San
Fernando/ Sylmar earthquake. On February 9, 1971 at about 6 o clock the cities of San Fernando and
Sylmar experienced an earthquake that ruptured along the Sierra Madre Fault Zone (Oakeshott,
Gordon B). The epicenter of this earthquake was reported to be in the San Gabriel Valley Mountains
above the valley. The citizens of both cities felt tremendous shaking. The magnitude of the earthquake
was measured as a 6.6 on the Richter scale and the shaking had the intensity of a level 11 (extreme) on
the Modified Mercalli system (U.S. Geological Survey). The shaking of this 6.6 magnitude earthquake
lasted about 12 seconds with a very strong ground motion. The source of this faulting was located
about five miles to the north of the San Fernando valley. The surface faulting of this earthquake was
reported to be seen along the surface of the San Fernando fault zone from a point south of Sylmar, the
faulting stretched 6 miles more as far as east to the little Tujunga Canyon, also more surface faulting
was reported more east as well. In total the maximum surface rupture was 12 miles and the amount of
slip was about 6 feet (U.S. Geological Survey). The type of fault scientist label this earthquake to be
was an oblique slip or also known as a thrust. The depth of this earthquake was 13km (8.1 mi) and the
peak acceleration was when it reached the Pacoima dam having the speed of 1.25g (U.S.

Public Relations Between Organizations And Their Publics
When the term public relations are heard, there is not an immediate understanding of the career, let
alone its writings. The lines of the responsibilities of a public relations professional are often blurred
and confused. However, the Public Relations Society of America composed a specific definition to
help with the confusion: public relations are a strategic communication process that builds mutually
beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics ( About Public Relations ). Breaking
down the definition a bit shows exactly what public relations is about mutually beneficial relationships
( About Public Relations ). Professionals work to create and maintain various relationships, whether it
be with journalists or clients, that will yield positive results for all parties involved. In an interview,
Vallerie, who works in public relations, revealed she interacts with upwards of 20 different people
daily (Mackillop). Publics are generally thought of as the general public population; this is true to an
extent for public relations. A public is anyone who ever has or ever will form an opinion about the
client (Roost). This means that it is possible to have more than one public that a professional is dealing
with for their work.
Public relations are unlike other means of publicity, such as advertising and marketing. However,
companies tend to push public relations to the side to focus more on those methods. Public relations
are earned exposure, while

Nihonjinron Stereotypes In The Film Kamikaze Girls
According to the textbook An Introduction to Japanese society , nihonjinron means theories of
Japaneseness (p.3). Nihonjinron is also the longest lasting model that mostly views Japan as a
homogeneous society. Briefly, Nihonjinron beliefs include :1) The Japanese being portrayed as lacking
in demonstrating individuality and more value to the group 2) Japanese emphasis on harmony within
the group (intra group level) and 3) Japan is a consensus group. Therefore, in the film Kamikaze girls
there were various nihonjinron themes and stereotypes. For example, the main character, Ichigo.
Ichigo felt alone before joining the bike gang and when she joined she felt belongness. Ichigos bike
outfits also include the Japanese flag sewn to clothes.

Awan et al., (2011) reported that Aspergillus niger is a potent producer of many industrially important
enzymes and may genetically be improved by exposure to gamma rays. The mutants recovered after
treatment by gamma rays were found to be effective producers of enzymes (Awan et al., 2011).
Mutagenesis of Aspergillus niger by using chemicals has been reported earlier to improve many
industrially important enzymes and other products. The cells of Aspergillus niger were subjected to
mutagenesis by ultraviolet irradiation, resulting in 45.4% activity of cellulase (Junwei and Shuyun,
1988). Non

Glomerular Filtration
Activity 1: Effect of Arteriole Diameter on Glomerular Filtration
1. Compare this data with your baseline data. How did increasing the afferent arteriole radius affect
glomerular filtration rate?
gt; gt;Increasing the afferent arteriole radius pushed the glomerular pressure, the glomerular filtration
rate, and the volume of urine to be higher than the baseline data. Increasing the afferent arteriole
radius increased the glomerular filtration rate. 2. Under these conditions, does the fluid flow through
the nephron?
gt; gt;No! No urine was collected which indicates no fluid flows through the nephron.
3. What is the glomerular filtration rate?

2. How could you adjust the afferent or efferent radius to compensate for the effect of the reduced
pressure on glomerular filtration rate and urine volume? Use the simulation to determine your answer.
gt; gt;Increase the afferent radius or decrease the efferent radius.
3. What changes are seen in nephron function when the valve is closed?
gt; gt; There was no glomerular filtration rate and no urine production.
4. Why were these changes seen? gt; gt; When the valves are closed simulating blocked collecting
ducts, the built up pressure caused by the increased solute volume opposes the forces driving up the
filtration tasks of the kidney. The nephrons could burst if the filtering task is continued so the kidney
is just trying to save itself.
5. Is the kidney functional when the glomerular filtration rate is zero? Explain your answer.
gt; gt;No. When glomerular filtration rate is zero, it means nothing is filtered. The kidney is dormant
and not carrying out any upfront task to stay functional.
6. What is the major ingredient that needs to be removed from the blood?
gt; gt;Urea along with different metabolic salts.
7. Studies on aging have demonstrated that some nephrons may fail as we get older. Will this be a

Disadvantages Of Affirmative Action
Affirmative Action in College Applications: Financial and Racial Disadvantages Affirmative action is
the improving of educational and job opportunities for members of groups that had not been treated
fairly in the past. Affirmative Action came to be following the Civil Rights Movement to treat years of
discrimination and to promote equality, though as John Fobanjong denotes in his article Affirmative
Action, some policy makers sought only to improve diversity statistics, not to level the playing field.
This nationwide program makes race a qualifying factor in college and job applications: it s in place to
encourage diversity because according to Issues Controversies Affirmative Action: Are Affirmative
Action Programs Necessary, minorities represent less than their percent of the population in academic
careers. Even though the 1964 Civil Rights Act, a landmark law that banned discrimination based on
race, sex, religion, or national origin in schools, was put into place, Affirmative Action, a program that
uses race in college admissions, still continues (Affirmative Action: Are Affirmative). Regardless of
surrounding law, Affirmative Action is fundamentally flawed because there is no cause effect
relationship between skin color and income, an underlying assumption of the program. Affirmative
Action blankets all minorities, whether lower, middle, or higher class, labeling entire races
disadvantaged . Furthermore, as covered in John Johnson and Robert Green s book titled

Garbage Patch Recycling
Recycling can also reduce water pollution. When substances such as plastics are improperly disposed
into rivers and beaches, it could be very destructive to the environment. Not only do waste mostly
plastic waste, contaminate these water bodies, but they also harm marine life. One of the biggest
problems that have resulted due to the improper disposition of plastic and other waste is The Great
Pacific Garbage Patch. About 80 percent of the debris in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch comes from
land based activities in North America and Asia ( Great , 2012). The Great Pacific Patch is an
accumulation of trash in the ocean that spans over a large area. Based on studies conducted by Wilcox,
Mallos, Leonard, Rodriguez and Hardesty (2016), marine litter mostly plastic has caused severe
damage on marine wildlife. Because plastic does not biodegrade, it stays in these large bodies of water
an accumulate. Various plastic products can cause suffocation of marine animals and possibly lead to
death. Marine animals may view these items as food and consume them. Once it is consumed, they
can potentially die. The image above obtained from Bing images illustrates the death of an albatross
bird that has consumed plastic waste from the ocean.
Due to the microscopic particles, mostly plastic found in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, it is
difficult to find a solution to remove all of the trash on the sea floor. Therefore, a plausible solution
would be to implement recycling methods.

  • 3. Audit Controls Paper 1) The importance of access controls in addition to audit controls. In addition to audit controls, access controls are important because they help reduce the risk of internal data breaches by preventing unauthorized work staff to have access to ePHI. Only individuals with a need to know should have access to ePHI (Brodnik, Finehart Thompson, Reynolds, 2012, p. 304). Additionally, Brodnik et al., (2012), states that access controls are used to aid in the authentication, audit and authorization process by implementing unique specifications such as: a unique user identification number, emergency access procedures, having an automatic log offs, and by having unique specifications within the system that allows for encryption and decryption ... Elephants form deep family bonds and live in tight matriarchal family groups of related females called a herd. When a calf is born, it is raised and protected by the whole matriarchal herd. Female elephants live in a herd. Male elephants have very different social needs, males are driven out of the family group as they approach sexual maturity, males spend as much as 95% of their lives alone. Although the main characters, Annie and Sara Jane, and Lora and Susie, seem similar in their relationships, the film juxtaposes them in terms of race. On the surface, the relationships presented are, at best, considered to be normal struggles between mother and daughter. Analyzing the specific trials and problems will reveal a difference in Black motherhood and White motherhood. Annie and Sara Jane face racial and identity issues, that cause the relationship to shatter. Lora and Susie encounter a sense of abandonment and loss of love, which in turn creates a divide between them. While jointly living, and raising their girls together, Annie and ... Sara Jane chooses to get revenge after Annie askes her to take something out to the guests, as that request could associate Sara Jane with her mother s race and domestic servitude. Sara Jane wants so desperately to pass as a white girl, but is constantly reminded of her race just by her mother s appearance. Their relationship is completely shattered by the end of the film, with Sara Jane refusing to have anything to do with her mother. The dynamic between Lora and Susie as mother and daughter is slightly different, with their relationship focusing on Susie s feelings of abandonment and missing love. One of the only confrontational scenes pertaining to these issues between Susie and Lora occurs near the end of the film, with Lora becoming upset that her daughter did not tell her about her budding love of Steve. Annie spills Susie s secret infatuation, and this causes Lora to confront her daughter about her romantic feelings. Amidst this quarrel, Susie exclaims, You ve given me everything but yourself! and proceeds to list of the ways that her mother tried to contact her, without physically being near her in person. The precision that lies behind every stroke of their scalpels fills me with awe; for instance, the only remainder of my surgery is a miniscule scar on my temple. Men on the other hand are seen as the breadwinners, their work is paid labour. Their job is to go out into paid employment and provide for their family. There are two knock on effects of women staying a home minding the family. Firstly they are not financially independent. They do not earn any money and are dependent on income received from their partners. Because nobody gets paid for rearing a family it s status as an occupation is at the bottom of the ladder and because women are dependant financially for money on their husband it means they in the past have had less input into the decisions affecting the family resulting in no input into the decisions affecting society. A woman s place was in the home. A second effect of women s position in the family is that they are often isolated from each other and from society in general. The first canal ever made in Yorkshire England in 1700, (Canal Cruise). The canal was advancing the Industrial Revolution by making it more accessible to get around. First and foremost the canal helped progress the industrial revolution by making coastal trade faster. Moving heavy goods at sea along the coast of Britain was much cheaper than moving the same items along the road network, and coastal trade was a key aspect of Britain s economy, (Shirley Burchill). Coastal trade was the cheapest way to transit goods, but it was also very slow. Between 1650 and 1750, before the industrial revolution half, a million tonnes of a canal was moved from Newcastle in the north to London in the south, (Shirley Burchill). Therefore since the canal was a man made water it caused coastal trade to be able to transport goods from the north to the south of England. The type of goods transported was brick, coal, and iron, (The Industrial Revolution and the changing face of Britain). • 18. How Does Delillo Present The Fear Of Death In White Noise The fear of death is one of the most prominent themes in White Noise. Everything in the novel from Hitler to the toxic airborne event circles back to how human beings are subconsciously afraid of dying. DeLillo s novel displays how life attempts to push this fear away, almost saying out of sight, out of mind . Yet, as we see in the characters of Jack and Babette, the fear continues to rear its ugly head and fill them with terror. DeLillo shows this close relationship between life and death. He could be trying to show how death lingers dangerously in the background of our lives. The toxic event changed the way Jack Gladney feared death. This could be based on the fact that no matter who you are or what you do, death is inevitable. I believe that Jack relates to a Hitler like persona because he relates to this idea of life credit . When Jack is talking to Murray, Murray mentions that to kill another person is to gain life credit. The more people you kill, the more credit you store up (DeLillo pg. 277). This is similar to Hitler, from my own knowledge, I already know that Hitler thought the more people he killed the more power he would gain and the more invincible he would feel. Jack seems to have the same mindset because he thinks killing a man will give him more time. He is almost trying to cheat death and outlive the chemical inside of him. I feel like Jack thinks that if he kills someone, he gains whatever years they had left. As any rational person would know, this is just simply impossible, but Jack seems to believe this illusion is his ticket to maximizing the time he has left. The common theme between these two passages is that death is an inescapable process. I found it very interesting that the toxic event happened before Jack shot Willie Mink. The toxic event only made it more clear to Jack that he is going to die because of his chemical exposure, however it also hastened his dying process. This is why I find it so strange that Jack tried to kill Mr. Mink. From my understanding, Jack was under the impression that killing someone would extend his life, however he knows that he ... The bravest of individuals is one who obeys his or her conscience, was once stated by J.F Clarke, when this quote is broken down one may notice the amount of truth behind it. J.F Clarke s interpretation of braveness and conclusion on the topic of obeying their conscience is rather intelligent due to the belief of inner senses of what is right or wrong will lead to the right choices in life. Two examples of literature that strongly support this quote can be found in Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck, as well as The Crucible by Arthur Miller. The Don t Ask, Don t Tell, Don t Pursue policy passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1993 was the compromise outcome of Clinton s campaign promise to repeal the ban on military service by homosexuals (Rich, Schutten Rogers, 2012). Soldiers would not be actively screened and as long as their sexual orientation was kept personal, there would be no adverse actions taken. Under the Don t Ask, Don t Tell between 1993 and 2011, over 14,000 military men and women were discharged due to their sexual orientation ( 11 Facts About, n.d.). The Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy did not explicitly state that gay, lesbian or bisexual was wrong. In essence by creating a policy that required a person to hide their sexual orientation the US conveyed the message to the military and the civilian population that gay, lesbian or bisexual was still wrong. The 1993 policy did not strengthen communications between military members of varying sexual orientation, in essence if strengthened the barrier by avoiding the subject. In other words you and your team must be highly motivated to try new things to reposition your product. 2. Don t fool yourself into thinking you re somebody else accept the realistic limitations of your core product or service, and build from there. 3. Increase the frequency of purchases by your customers. No matter how poor your current product or service, you must have some customers or clients. One key strategic dimension that you should be thinking about is how to augment and reposition your product in order to sell more to this group. 4. Get the name and address of the end ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Copies were then given to the immediate customer who could then pass one along to his or her boss. 14. Run interference for your budding superstars. People who share a passion and a talent for jump start marketing are invaluable, and should be nurtured and encouraged within your organization. 15. Make it too good of a deal on purpose. This is a fundamental point. Spolestra maintains that you must find some way of repositioning or reformulating your product or service to make it something that your potential customers simply cannot refuse. With the New Jersey Nets, one of the ways they did this was to package a barbecue family dinner and drinks with the game. They managed their costs so that the dinner alone was a bargain for the ticket price, to say nothing of the game being thrown in as part of the deal. Tickets were sold by the thousands, the games were standing room only, and the franchise made lots of money. Again, we see this approach of de emphasizing the core product (the quality of the team), and augmenting and repositioning an enhanced product in its place. 16. Feel free to butt into other departments. Jump start marketing cannot be confined to the marketing or sales department alone. Because it involves (sometimes drastically) reformulating the product or service, it must cut across the various departments in the organization. The people who do this may run into problems, and this is where rule # 14 comes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Philosophy Of Rene Descartes In modern philosophy, reality is viewed in a twofold manner: the immaterial mind on the one hand and the extended body on the other. Also, we think of reality and divided between the I subject and an external world of objects. This line of thinking is attributed to Rene Descartes, widely credited as the father of modern philosophy. Descartes was a proponent of metaphysical dualism. He believed that the mind and the body are distinct substances. To Descartes, we can reach certain knowledge about the mind and consciousness through introspection. He reasons that we cannot doubt our existence as thinking things because the fact that we think is undeniable. However, we tend to be fooled by our sensory experience of the world around us, so it is possible to put the world outside of our minds into doubt. To Descartes, philosophy is about attaining certain knowledge. We look upon the world as knowing subjects. Descartes believed that we cannot properly philosophize without first establishing certain principles to guide our investigation. We must doubt everything that can be doubted, and only when we reach a position that cannot be doubted can we begin our quest to understand reality. Since we begin with the thinking thing, the Cogito, the mind has ontological precedence over the body. From Descartes onwards, the ultimate questions of philosophy were viewed as being epistemic in nature. The big questions in philosophy were about the relationship of the thinking subject to the ... A trial in which the judge allows illegally seized evidence to be used, or in which the defendant has no access to an attorney, is forced to testify against himself, or is denied the ability to bring witnesses favorable to his cause, is not a trial that meets the standard of due process of law. The men who drafted the Bill of Rights knew this, not only from their experience during the Colonial era, but also from the history of Great Britain, which ever since the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215 had been committed to expanding the rule of law. Today we tend to emphasize the relationship of rights to individual liberty, but even those rights which are most identified as individual such as the rights of persons accused of crimes still have a community basis. Rights in American history are not designed to free the individual from community norms; rather, they exist to promote a responsible liberty, to allow each and every one to be free from arbitrary power. In the areas of free expression, the Bill of Rights carves out a space where dissenting voices may be freely heard, both for the benefit of the individual as well as for the sake of the community. Essentially, the meaning is conveyed by speech patterns and tone of voice. In other words, the themes are similar but the perspective is altered based on the Speaker s attitude and thoughts. The book A Monster Calls, by Patrick Ness, is about a young boy who is struggling with school, bullies, friends, and family when his mother develops a terminal illness. He is visited by the monster, a massive yew tree, who comes alive to teach Conor the ways of the world. He also teaches Conor the truth in order to move past his mother s sickness. Therefore, experimented with debates and wrote texts to defend a broader education system not only based on medieval church teachings (Of course, inventions like the printing press in the 1440s highly impacted the spread of teachings and texts which allowed the idea to become more widely known in a shorter period of time than was attempted by past scholars). The impact and growth of secularism and individualism in effect of humanism from the 1400s to 1700s rests highly on humanists like Raphael, Marsilio Ficino and .....who emphasized the teachings of humanism corresponding with the study of ancient texts which modified the educational system and governmental bodies and influenced a change in cultural aspects affecting Renaissance art based on their classical and contemporary ... • 39. The Atlanta Airport By Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta... In order to be the words busies and most efficient airport in the world continuously the Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport must have the proper set up that allows it to operate at an extremely high level. The Atlanta Airport has the most ideal set up for its specific operation. The airport as a whole sits on about 4,700 acres of land; the terminal and ramp areas themselves cover approximately 130 acres. The terminal areas are where any of the millions of passengers that pass through the airport every year can purchase tickets check and claim their baggage, and eat and drink at their leisure. The concourse system at KATL is set up in linear satellite configuration. All passengers pass through one of the three security check points on concourse T which is home to 15 gates beyond concourse T Concourse A through F are home to 191 domestic and international gates. Passengers are transported through these concourses via moving sidewalks and an automated people mover (Hartsfield Jackson, 2016). The 4,700 acres that the airport covers feature 5 parallel runways (8L/26R, 8R/26L, 9L/27R, 9R/27L, 10/28); all of the runways run east to west along with their associated taxiways. There are 2 runways on the North side of the airfield (The terminal area represents the middle of the airfield) and 3 runways on the south side of the airfield. The advantage of having these parallel runways is that during the operation there is no need to be concerned with aircraft crossing paths ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Business Impact Analysis Example Introduction It is notable that the Business Impact Analysis (BIA) is a fundamental tool that provides business consistency in any enterprise. Why is it fundamental? BIA is necessary for the generation of disaster recovery plans or for ensuring that an enterprise remains consistent. It permits business directors to determine information technology processes and critical elements within an organization. In addition, a BIA describes the period required for an enterprise unit to complete and supply deliveries to its clients along with any resources necessary to continue business operations. Business Impact analysis could be relevant in multiple areas. For instance, a business impact analysis could be relevant in cloud computing. This is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In short, Cloud computing models allow access to computer resources and information anywhere provided a connection is present. They provide shared pools of sources including networks processing power, data storage, and specialized user applications. Examples of these services include webmail, networking sites, online file storage, and online business applications. The technology under discussion has five main characteristics that enable it to run efficiently. Its first characteristic is the on demand self service. A consumer has the capacity to unilaterally access services in a timely fashion devoid of any human interaction with every service provider. Another trait is that the technique has a broad network access because services are available over the network. It is crucial to point out that networks are accessible via standard mechanisms that promote use of heterogeneous client platforms. Therefore, this element improves the efficiency of cloud computing. The third trait is rapid elasticity where capabilities (of access to information) can be provisioned elastically and released automatically. It follows that capabilities often appear to be unlimited hence, released to consumers at any time. The fourth characteristic of cloud computing is resource pooling where computing resources are pooled using a multi tenant model in order to serve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Burden Of Proof Is The Duty Of A Party Introduction The burden of proof is the duty of a party in a trial to produce the evidence that will shift the conclusion away from the default position, to that party s own position. In a legal dispute, one party is initially presumed to be correct and gets the benefit of the doubt, while the other side bears the burden of proof. When a party bearing the burden of proof meets their burden, the burden of proof switches to the other side. Burdens may be of different kinds for each party, in different phases of litigation. (Wikipedia, 2017) For all cases, it is the responsibility of the prosecution to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant is guilty and vice versa for the defense. The applicable code of the prosecution was to prove beyond reasonable doubt rather than just speculation on the case and learning about what the actual presented evidence consists of. The reason the O.J. Simpson s case is pivotal in the crimes in the United States of America is the necessity of the prosecution to prove a case beyond reasonable doubt; the standard that no other logical explanation can be derived from the facts except that the defendant committed the crime, thereby overcoming the presumption that a person is innocent until proven guilty (Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, 2008). Despite being a first degree murder case and a prima facie case, OJ Simpson s was acquitted. The case came with a high public awareness concerning the prevalence of domestic violence and difference. Also in the case of Casey; there was an expectation of conviction due to the first evidence was given by the prosecution. Opening Statements The defense attorney was more convincing as compared to the prosecution. The attorney directs the jury to seek what transpired and not to base their position on investigation directed to one person only. He points out that the defense had a desperate investigation full of speculation and guessing. It came down to a belief the state did not prove its case because it could not prove how Caylee died. The occurrence of irony rests over the entire piece because as Sedaris describes his special problems and tics and habits the audience becomes aware that he is suffering from OCD, despite those in the essay being unaware of it. There is also situational irony for example when his father tells him that: College is the best thing that can ever happen to you and Sedaris comments He was right . The entire commercial s dialogue has various people, mostly families, including a mother in front of her child, saying half fast instead of half a$$ed. Clearly, Verizon hopes that a funny play on word expression, not normally allowed in commercials, will drive sales. The idea of the commercial series is that most broadband providers have slow upload speeds, making them only half fast. So, the actors in the commercial complain of the half fast job their Internet is doing when they are posting pictures or music to the Web. • 45. Effects Of Sylmar Earthquake On San Fernando Valley One of the most significant earthquakes to hit the San Fernando Valley in the past was the 1971 San Fernando/ Sylmar earthquake. On February 9, 1971 at about 6 o clock the cities of San Fernando and Sylmar experienced an earthquake that ruptured along the Sierra Madre Fault Zone (Oakeshott, Gordon B). The epicenter of this earthquake was reported to be in the San Gabriel Valley Mountains above the valley. The citizens of both cities felt tremendous shaking. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured as a 6.6 on the Richter scale and the shaking had the intensity of a level 11 (extreme) on the Modified Mercalli system (U.S. Geological Survey). The shaking of this 6.6 magnitude earthquake lasted about 12 seconds with a very strong ground motion. The source of this faulting was located about five miles to the north of the San Fernando valley. The surface faulting of this earthquake was reported to be seen along the surface of the San Fernando fault zone from a point south of Sylmar, the faulting stretched 6 miles more as far as east to the little Tujunga Canyon, also more surface faulting was reported more east as well. In total the maximum surface rupture was 12 miles and the amount of slip was about 6 feet (U.S. Geological Survey). The type of fault scientist label this earthquake to be was an oblique slip or also known as a thrust. The lines of the responsibilities of a public relations professional are often blurred and confused. However, the Public Relations Society of America composed a specific definition to help with the confusion: public relations are a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics ( About Public Relations ). Breaking down the definition a bit shows exactly what public relations is about mutually beneficial relationships ( About Public Relations ). Professionals work to create and maintain various relationships, whether it be with journalists or clients, that will yield positive results for all parties involved. In an interview, Vallerie, who works in public relations, revealed she interacts with upwards of 20 different people daily (Mackillop). Publics are generally thought of as the general public population; this is true to an extent for public relations. A public is anyone who ever has or ever will form an opinion about the client (Roost). This means that it is possible to have more than one public that a professional is dealing with for their work. Public relations are unlike other means of publicity, such as advertising and marketing. However, companies tend to push public relations to the side to focus more on those methods. What changes are seen in nephron function when the valve is closed? gt; gt; There was no glomerular filtration rate and no urine production. 4. Why were these changes seen? gt; gt; When the valves are closed simulating blocked collecting ducts, the built up pressure caused by the increased solute volume opposes the forces driving up the filtration tasks of the kidney. The nephrons could burst if the filtering task is continued so the kidney is just trying to save itself. 5. Is the kidney functional when the glomerular filtration rate is zero? Explain your answer. gt; gt;No. When glomerular filtration rate is zero, it means nothing is filtered. The kidney is dormant and not carrying out any upfront task to stay functional. 6. Disadvantages Of Affirmative Action Affirmative Action in College Applications: Financial and Racial Disadvantages Affirmative action is the improving of educational and job opportunities for members of groups that had not been treated fairly in the past. Affirmative Action came to be following the Civil Rights Movement to treat years of discrimination and to promote equality, though as John Fobanjong denotes in his article Affirmative Action, some policy makers sought only to improve diversity statistics, not to level the playing field. This nationwide program makes race a qualifying factor in college and job applications: it s in place to encourage diversity because according to Issues Controversies Affirmative Action: Are Affirmative Action Programs Necessary, minorities represent less than their percent of the population in academic careers. Even though the 1964 Civil Rights Act, a landmark law that banned discrimination based on race, sex, religion, or national origin in schools, was put into place, Affirmative Action, a program that uses race in college admissions, still continues (Affirmative Action: Are Affirmative). Regardless of surrounding law, Affirmative Action is fundamentally flawed because there is no cause effect relationship between skin color and income, an underlying assumption of the program. • 53. Garbage Patch Recycling Recycling can also reduce water pollution. When substances such as plastics are improperly disposed into rivers and beaches, it could be very destructive to the environment. Not only do waste mostly plastic waste, contaminate these water bodies, but they also harm marine life. One of the biggest problems that have resulted due to the improper disposition of plastic and other waste is The Great Pacific Garbage Patch. About 80 percent of the debris in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch comes from land based activities in North America and Asia ( Great , 2012). The Great Pacific Patch is an accumulation of trash in the ocean that spans over a large area. Based on studies conducted by Wilcox, Mallos, Leonard, Rodriguez and Hardesty (2016), marine litter mostly plastic has caused severe damage on marine wildlife. Because plastic does not biodegrade, it stays in these large bodies of water an accumulate. Various plastic products can cause suffocation of marine animals and possibly lead to death. Marine animals may view these items as food and consume them. Once it is consumed, they can potentially die. The image above obtained from Bing images illustrates the death of an albatross bird that has consumed plastic waste from the ocean. Due to the microscopic particles, mostly plastic found in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, it is difficult to find a solution to remove all of the trash on the sea floor. Therefore, a plausible solution would be to implement recycling methods. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
