School Uniforms And The Constitution
Argumentative Essay: School Uniforms and the Constitution
HOMETOPICAPPEALSREFUTATIONSOURCE ESSAY School Uniforms School uniforms are
becoming a popular trend amongst schools. Students and even most parents don t agree with the
enforcement with school uniforms; stating that uniforms take away the right of self expression. School
uniforms are not a negative thing to have. Yes, uniforms limit what the students have to choose to
wear to school every day, but it doesn t limit them from learning; the only reason they are in school.
Student treat school as a fashion show, so eliminating that puts the students full focus on schoolwork.
Although requiring students to wear school uniforms may violate their self expression in some ways, a
uniform are supposed to be looked upon as a positive thing, because they eliminate bullying, combine
social classes and gives the school campus a professional look. The most common argument against
school uniforms is that they take away the students right to self expression. Yes, school uniforms limit
what the students have to wear, but he/she can still have their own ways of self expression. Students
can still express their style of choice by the way he/she styles their hair and what accessories they
choose to wear. Their shoe choice is also a form of self expression. Students can make the uniforms
their own style without

How Did Batman Kill The Joker
Let s take a look at Bruce Wayne (Batman). As a kid, he watched his parents being murdered by a
mugger right in front of him and this drove him to fight crime in Gotham City as Batman. Now we
take a look at the Joker was a one time failed comedian who turned to a life of crime as the Red Hood
to support his pregnant wife. Unfortunately, due to a run in with Batman, the Red Hood leaped into a
chemical vat to escape, thereby disfiguring himself. Combined with the death of his wife, he was
driven insane, effectively becoming The Joker. Each one of these character s are very unique, but in
different ways.
I can remember as a kid watching Batman Robin on black and white television, how the Joker always
committed crimes, murdered, etc. I can recall asking my grandfather why Batman never kills the Joker
in any of the episodes and he basically told me that if Batman killed the Joker, what would be the

if there s a chance of getting information that could possibly save other lives. All of these are present
in today s society and you only see Batman in the movies or comics. I think that we are too
disconnected from the Dark Knight and the issues of Gotham City, so it may be easy for us to say go
ahead and kill him. If that disconnect suggests that there s more at stake in our society today, why aren

Seven Years War Analysis
Canada is a well known country for it s diverse residents, powerful economy, civilized citizens but
more significantly its peaceful population and although Canada s reputation has been highly respected,
the 1700s was an era which is only remembered for it s greed for power and it s various battles of
blood. Despite the short term and long term consequences of the Seven Years War, a few of the after
effects of the battle have created an eternal significance to our modern society.
Firstly, one of the most horrific practises of the world of assimilation, where one is forced to convert
to another religion, follow different customs and orders and have to have any memory of their true
beliefs to be erased is completely barbaric, but was one of the events that occurred in 1750s to the
French! Despite the 1774 Québec Act where the French regained their lost rights, I still believe that
this was one of the tragedies that nevertheless remains an issue in this advanced community. The
young generation of this country are constantly trying to re invent themselves so they appeal more to
their friends and the society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The aboriginals have been discriminated against from the moment of the arrival of the European
settlers till this day. The first nations of our country had to face the materialistic relations with the
French and British where the only interest to the Europeans was alliance in war, personal economic
concerns and to defeat the rivals. With land and power stolen from them in front of their own eyes, the
aboriginal still await the day where they would have the opportunity to retrieve their territory.
Regardless the numerous efforts provided by the government of Canada, the first nations of Canada
have been scarred too many times and unless the entire community comes together to help mend it, I

Sidney Defends The Worth Of Poetry
Sidney defends the worth of poetry by presenting us with a long defense written to William Ponsonby,
a very popular publisher of the Elizabethan era. Sidney breaks his argument down into eight sections,
each one arguing another point as to why poetry is worthy and should not be thought of as sub par
literature. His arguments are thorough, leaving no gaps between thoughts, and very persuasive in both
content and style. I believe his argument is both successful and thorough, covering everything that has
been critiqued about poesy in the ages before this work was written.
Sidney opens with the first section called the Exordium in lines 1 50. It is significant to note that it
was printed several years after his death, communicating the aristocratic air we get from him,
manliness, courtier, advisor, masculine roles that Sidney is hinting at comparing himself to a horse
master. The introduction here of his argument is lighthearted and funny, if I had not been a piece of a
logician before I came to him I think he would have persuaded me to have wished myself a horse (27
30). This show of establishing his own good character through Ethos, pathos the applying to peoples
emotions as well as William Ponsonby s emotions, as this is whom the argument is addressed to.
Sidney s thesis is visible in lines 43 51 where he says that he will bring forth the evidence to prove
that poetry is a worthy literary medium and that without poetry we do not have history or philosophy.

Operation Searchlight And The Bangladesh Genocide
After the assault on the university, the military continued on to the countryside. Those who disagreed
with the western Pakistani ideas concerning language, religion, and direction of the country would
experience varying degrees of violence at the hands of the military junta. Upon entry, the junta would
pillage and plunder the village houses and force the people out of their homes. Moreover, as a form of
psychological terror, the military forced the people to line up in front of one another, proceeding to
shoot down line after line in front of the remaining crowd. This technique was also used during the
assault on the student dormitories. The mass murders had reached a point in which R.J. Rummel,
author of Death by Government, goes as far to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the genocide following the start of Operation Searchlight and the attack on Dhaka
University there was mass confusion and hysteria among the people. All over, Eastern Pakistan people
were wandering aimlessly and in April around thirty million had started to flee in order to escape the
grasp of the military. Ten million refugees went into India and overwhelmed the country s resources,
which eventually became a catalyst for Indian military intervention. It is worthy to note that a large
number of these refugees were Hindu. Additionally, the influx of the Bengali people in India was
estimated to be 10 million refugees and it is estimated that 1.5 million stayed in India after Bangladesh
gained its independence (GenocideBangladesh). This increase in refugees resulted in a mix of cultures
as well. Consequently, this was a negative impact on East Pakistan, and subsequently Bangladesh, for
the long term because their intellectuals had fled, depriving them of ideas, new thoughts, and
innovation, and proper leadership that could have led them to a higher position in the world today due
to the absence of these important people in that time (GenocideBangladesh). Due to the systematic
raping of women throughout the country, a large number of females were forced to bear children that
they did not want. This was mentally scarring and physically draining to these women and their
families. Not to forget that, in the Middle East, it is socially taboo for a women to have sex out of
wedlock, leading to her being ignored and shunned in public and by her own kin. Also due to the
unwanted pregnancies, those affected would sometimes resort to extreme solutions such as suicide by
rat poison and other means, such as infanticide, as well as abortion (Ahmed). Susan Brownmiller,

Belfast Of Canada
Smith s (2015) evaluation of the Toronto as the Belfast of Canada is important because it defines the
existence of a strong pro Ulster faction of Irish Protestant that received large scale support from the
British government to countermand the rise of Irish Catholicism in the city. In this manner, the term,
The Belfast of Canada , defines the undercurrent of hostility and social barriers that created such
political and social tensions for Irish Catholics in Toronto in the 1860s. This posthumous term defined
the existing struggles between Protestant and Catholic Irish tat would be historically compared to the
struggles in Belfast:
To them, progress and societal standing could be achieved only if they could identify and eradicate the

In this manner, Irish immigrants all understood the complexity of being in a foreign land, which had
different circumstances in relation to life in Canada. The comparison of Toronto to Belfast has its
limitations due to the far lesser scale of violence experienced between Irish Protestants and Catholics,
but it must also be acknowledged that many Irish immigrants coming over during the Great Famine
endured poverty and similar economic conditions.
The majority of the Protestant emigrants of the Famine era appear not to have been well off. Most of
them spent a few years visiting relatives and working in Carleton or Middlesex counties after arriving
from Ireland in the 1850s (Elliot, 2014, p.111).
In this deeper analysis of Irish population arriving during the Famine, it is apparent that protestant and
Catholic both suffered from poverty after coming to Toronto. Certainly, a majority of immigrants were
of Catholic descent, but there were certainly Protestant Irish being forced off their land in Ireland
during the Famine. These are important details that define why Toronto was not nearly as hostile as
Belfast, since the similar aspects of poverty, Irish nationalism, and Irish culture were shared values in
the overall disposition of Irish immigrants

The Decline Of Fertility Rates
In 1930, Thompson developed one of the first theories to explain the decline in fertility rates starting
to be seen in industrializing nations (Thompson, 1930). Joined by Notestein in 1953, this classical
theory of demographic transition postulates that changes in social life from industrialization and
urbanization would cause first a decline in mortality followed by a decline in fertility (Notestein,
1953; Mason, 1997). Since the early 20th century, the world has undergone major demographic
changes. In the first decade of the 21st century for the first time, the old outnumbered the young, and
the median number of children per woman fell below replacement levels (Cohen, 2005). These major
changes illustrate the now well known concept of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Demography is influenced by a multitude of factors, many of which are yet unknown or
unquantifiable. Demographic changes can arise from unsuspecting sources; for example Chong et al
(2008) found that the spread of soap operas in Brazil, which portrayed smaller families than typical in
Brazil, contributed to fertility decline in that country through shifting cultural ideals. Acknowledging
that demographic changes occur due to a great variety of economic, social, cultural, ecologic and other
causes, I will focus on the role that health policies can play in demographic trends both pre and post
the demographic transition by examining the cases of Bangladesh and Germany.
I will also examine how demographic trends may influence economic growth. During the period of
population growth in the demographic transition, society may experience economic growth in what is
known as the demographic dividend. During this period, the population participating in the labor force
is greater than the dependent population, freeing up resources for innovation and investment (Lee and
Mason, 2006). However, this dividend is not guaranteed but must be created through a conducive
policy environment (Bloom et al, 2003). Post transition, economic growth continues to be a concern as
society confronts the burden of an aging, and potentially shrinking, population.

The Threat Against Sea Turtles
There are over 1 million known species of plants and animals that in habit the plant s oceans, and
scientist estimate that there are over 9 million more species that have yet to be discovered. Those
numbers seem to have great value, but when put in perspective there are only 7 species of sea turtles
in the vast ocean, those numbers don t seem so big after all. Even more so when you say all 7 species
are on the endangered list of extinction. One of the biggest threat against sea turtles, and all other
oceanic life, is the pollution crisis of plastics, glass, and all other trash. But as long as people dump
their trash in the oceans, and it doesn t violate the government s dumping regulations, then it s
perfectly http://i.imgur.com/foQcVja.jpg legal. Without breaking any laws, people will always
continue to do it and the ocean will continue to suffer because of it. On the other side of dumping trash
into the oceans scientist are gathering huge amounts of data on how we re killing the oceans and
everything that lives in it. That is why we must come to our senses and use the common ground of
finding a new way to dispose of trash and help rebuild the oceans to sustain life on the planet. When it
comes to pollution in the oceans people automatically think that they re talking about glass, trash, and
plastic. However, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) team has
collaborated to discuss just how exactly does the ocean get so polluted around the mainlands.

Personal And Professional Accountability And Opportunities...
Regardless of what career a person holds, there will always be personal/professional accountability
and opportunities for advancement. The nursing profession is a unique field that evolves based on
evidence based practice as well as advances in medicine and technology. As such, the nursing
profession requires nurses to not only stay up to date about latest practices but also advance
themselves. One way that nurses stay current is by continuing to pursue advance degrees and
certificates through education and taking on higher positions in their profession. Finally, nurses must
be accountable for their actions both personally and personally in order to protect their patient s
privacy and health. For example, if a nurse makes a medication error and reports it there is an
increased chance of preventing harm and/or death of a patient. In the following essay the writer will
reflect on her personal and professional accountability as well as what her career goals are for the
future.
Personal and professional accountability is very important in nursing because it ensures that nurses are
providing safe and efficient patient care. Some personal strengths that this writer possess are caring
attitude and having work life balance. A few professional accountabilities that this writer possess is
good time management, not being prejudice towards co workers and/or patients and being conscious
of financial cost of wasted resources. For example, not taking unnecessary material and/or linens

Rabies Is The Virus And Disease, As Well As Information On...
Purpose
This report will educate the reader on rabies in canines (dogs). It will give the reader a basic
understanding of the virus and disease, as well as information on prevention and treatment.
Background
Rabies is thought to be an endemic in the Arctic, Northern Canada and former regions of the Soviet
Union (NUNAVUT REF). Rabies is a zoonotic, neuro invasive disease caused by the Rabies
Rhabdovirus Lyssavirus (Merck Veterinary Manual, 2015). The risk of being exposed to rabies is
dependent on a variety of factors, including where an animal goes and what wildlife it comes in
contact with (VET BRIEF REF). The most commonly affected domestic mammals includes dogs,
cattle and cats. The most commonly affected wildlife affected includes foxes, skunks, bats and
raccoons (Merck Veterinary Manual, 2015). If the dog becomes infected, the virus attacks the brain.
This leads to the brain becoming inflamed and then beginning to deteriorate. The deterioration causes
the brain to not function properly, leading to the animal acting abnormal. The abnormal behaviour
results in a variety of signs and symptoms, including aggression (Remedy Health Media, 2016).
Rabies is a federally reportable disease, including all suspect cases. All reports are investigated by the
Canadian Food Inspection Agency, in a verified rabies laboratory (Government of Canada, 2016).
Rabies is an incredibly important disease for Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) to be aware of,
as it is a common concern

Analysis Of American Pie
Modernism was a 20th century literary movement that depicted a period of uncertainty and disillusion
in the United States. The literary movement was marked by various culture shock caused by events
such as both World Wars and the Vietnam War. Because of such shock, American culture and societal
values changed as society began to focus more on the self and forgo the traditional Victorian values
and virtues of the preceding Romantic era. During this movement, writer sought to write in a way that
better suited the modern world and thus chose to focus on the decay of values and growing alienation
of the individual. Writers and poets began using techniques such as streams of consciousness and
writing with a sense of ambiguity. There was also the poetic movement, imagism during the
Modernism era where poets became increasingly concerned with presenting a simple, clear image to
their readers. Due to his use of modernist techniques and poetic devices such as the adoption of the
stream of consciousness writing style, the use imagery, allusions, and symbolism, Don McLean s
song, American Pie, can be considered a work of modernist poetry. By way of his literary techniques
and poetic devices, McLean is able to take his listeners through a pivotal decade in American history
in just eight and a half minutes; however, it is what makes his lyrics a song that helps build American
Pie s tone and further develop the theme of a generation s early loss of innocence, culture, and values

Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress 4 Essay
Storytelling can be found in every corner of the world. It is used to pass the time, tell of past or current
events, and is the way that we communicate with each other. In Balzac and the little Chinese
Seamstress, by Dai Sijie, storytelling occurs during times of hopelessness when life seems hard and
allows the characters to live vicariously through the tales told. The narrator and Luo use storytelling as
an escape from reality in times of desperation. The tailor is influenced by the stories to the point where
he changes the style of clothing he creates to escape the boundaries of Mao approved clothing. The
importance of storytelling to the little seamstress is that she learns the importance of beauty, and is

he put it, ¡§To me it was the ultimate book: once you read it, neither your own life nor the world you

controlling power of Mao and his communist ways.
The tailor finds another way to escape the controlling grip of Mao. On his customary tour of the
villages before the New Year, the tailor decides to stay with Luo and the narrator while working in
their village. The two are baffled upon the reasoning of why the tailor would want to stay in their
house compared to a much nicer one. Before bed the tailor says, ¡§The pair of you are excellent

Compare And Contrast Slaughter House Five And...
In the novels, Slaughterhouse Five written by Kurt Vonnegut and What is the What by Dave Eggers,
the authors use techniques to help contribute to the development of the readers curiosity about how the
story might end. As a result, it leaves them a feeling of wanting more of the storyline until the very
last page. The novel Slaughterhouse Five is written by author Kurt Vonnegut, who experienced and
survived the World War II. He expresses his personal feelings regarding the war through the main
character, Billy Pilgrim and simple language, allowing readers to easily understand and experience
moments of the past, present, and future with him. One the other hand, the novel What is the What by
Dave Eggers, the author narrates the challenging life story in first person point of view of a Sudanese
refugee, Valentino Achak Deng, Thereby, creating a bridge between readers and author which
similarly allows them to experience the refugee lifestyle and connect on a personal level. The two
novels share a similar technique of using first person narrative with texts that offer a rich and thorough
glimpse into the narrator s involvements through inner dialogue and explanation. Additionally, the
technique of involving authors produces an individualized touch using texts with emotional
experiences that would otherwise go unnoticed by a third party, such as feelings, sounds, tastes and
smell described by the author. Thus, depicting and setting the scene for readers to get involved in the
story from a personal point of view and grasping their attention until the end. In Slaughterhouse Five,
Kurt Vonnegut presents Billy Pilgrim himself, as a character unstuck in time through simple language.
This does not only pursue a page turner for curious readers to easily experience the past, present, and
future with him but also, alluding to the reality of life during the World War II. Similarly, In What is
the What, Dave Eggers narrates his story through feelings of a real life character, Valentino Achak
Deng, to express the story on the reality of a living refugee. Kurt Vonnegut utilizes the advantage of a
narrative story, using simple language to easily connect through the readers thoughts. The use of

Investment Case Study
Do the circumstances surrounding the sale of the Collinsville plant play any role in your willingness to
buy the assets? If so, how, if not, why not?
On the one hand, the circumstances of the sale make me less willing to buy. In particular, both
Universal and the federal government think that American s acquisition creates antitrust issues. If this
is the case, American could use its market power to change the nature of the market and make Dixon s
new plant unprofitable by setting lower prices for sodium chlorate in its other plants. On the other
hand, the circumstances make me more willing to buy the assets because American has to divest the
plant to comply with a court order. Therefore, they have less leverage during the sale ... Show more

With these assumptions, the present value of the total cash flows value the plant at $7.9M.[5] Under
this valuation, the $12M offer seems high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the
laminate technology. Even if we relax the assumptions and use the lower end WACC in our range of
14.5% and assume that capital expenditures will be the low end of the range at $475k per annum after
1984, the deal at $12M would still be dilutive because the DCF value is still only $8.9M.[6] At the
other extreme, assuming a WACC of 18.5% and capital expenditures of $600k per annum, the plant is
only worth $7.5M.
While the model above does not account for the return of working capital at the end of year in 1989,
the discounted value of this working capital is only worth about $650k and therefore does not
substantially alter the analysis.
Given this analysis, the deal is dilutive and Dixon should not make the investment.
2) Evaluate the marginal impact of the laminate technology (i.e. net present value of the costs savings
and expenses assuming that without laminate, graphite costs go up 5% per year after 1984 and power
costs rise 12% after 1984).
The laminate technology requires an upfront capital expenditure of $2.25M that can be straight line
depreciated over 10 years. This laminate will eliminate graphite costs completely and reduce power
costs by 15 20%. Assuming the

Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus And Mellitus
Introduction:
Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that occurs when insulin producing beta cells of the pancreas are
damaged or are being destroyed (Mahan, Escott Stump Raymond, 2012). The gradual destruction of
the beta cells of the pancreas usually leads to complete insulin deficiency, which ultimately manifests
itself in the following symptoms at clinical onset: high blood glucose (hyperglycemia), frequent
urination (polyuria), excessive thirst (polydipsia), and a significant amount of weight loss,
dehydration, electrolyte disturbances and ketoacidosis , requiring dependency of exogenous insulin in
order to promote optimal glycemic control in order to prevent further more severe complications; such
as, ketoacidosis, microvascular diseases, macrovascular diseases, neuropathy, or worse Death (Mahan
et al., 2012). Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus can result from two existing forms: 1. Immune mediated
diabetes Mellitus, which is characterized by autoimmune destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas
and an idiopathic (unknown cause) commonly seen in ethnic groups of African or Asian descent
(Mahan et al., 2012). Of all diagnosed diabetes cases, prevalence of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus cases
account for 5% 10%, and although onset may present itself at any age, 70% of cases are diagnosed in
young adults (younger than age 30), with a peak in occurring incidences seen mostly in children and
adolescents (Mahan et al., 2012). In the United States, approximately 1 in every 400

Essay about A Comparison of Sei Shonagon and Marie de France
A Comparison of Sei Shonagon and Marie de France
Though more than two hundred years have separated Sei Shonagon and Marie de France, the scene is
much the same. A courtly lady sits in a candle lit room, with her writing hand poised above a book of
parchment. Her face brightens in an instant of inspiration and she scribbles furiously onto the paper.
This woman is closely associated with the royal court and is something of an anachronism, a woman
author in a male dominated world. The scene pictured here could have taken place in either Shonagon
s late tenth century Japan or the twelfth century France of Marie de France. The differences that exist
between these two authors are a result of their differing cultures and personalities. ... Show more

Shonagon s writing is that of someone who is oblivious to her audience. She has no care for proper
sentence or paragraph structure. For example, Things That Give a Clean Feeling contains a series of
sentence fragments, such as An earthen cup. A new metal bowl. In fact, much of the Pillow Book is
not written for an audience, as Shonagon admits in It Is Getting So Dark. Here she reveals that since
much of it might appear malicious and even harmful to other people, I was careful to keep my book
hidden. But now it has become public, which is the last thing I expected. At one point, Shonagon
confesses that while a younger girl might risk the consequences of putting down such impieties, a
woman of her age should be less flippant. While excerpts such as the satirical report on the ladies in
waiting in Especially Delightful Is the First Day could be seen as mean spirited, the author is just
expressing her honest thoughts. She writes faithfully to her own strongly held opinions; no regard to
religious or moral authorities is necessary.
Though some of the observations in the Pillow Book may justify Shonagon s intention to keep the
book private, it would have been a pity not to share some of the beautifully vivid imagery she uses. In

Essay on In Defense of Historical Fiction
The genre of historical fiction novels can be subdivided into many categories and often crosses genres,
such as historical mysteries and romances. The traditional definition of the historical fiction genre is
fiction set in the past where the author is writing from research rather than personal experience. This
definition leaves a lot of room for interpretation, controversy, and contradiction. Critics in the media,
even when they praise individual historical novels in their reviews, somehow manage to turn this
praise into criticism of the genre as a whole. In 1950, author Howard Fast, a historical novelist
himself, wrote: This is an era of many historical novels, few of them good and very few indeed which
have more than a nodding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is a classic example of a successful historical
fiction novel depicting the life and adventures of youthful boys in the Mississippi River town of St.
Petersburg, Missouri and various locations along the river through Arkansas. Readers of this novel are
confronted with difficult themes such as slavery and revolution in the south before the Civil War. In
chapter 6 of the novel we see Huck s father, Pap, confronted with a finely dressed and educated free
African American. As the man passes Pap states, There, now that s a specimen. They call that a
govment that can t sell a free nigger till he s been in the State six months. Here s a govment that calls
itself a govment, and lets on to be a govment, and thinks it is a govment, and yet s got to set stock still
for six whole months before it can take a hold of a prowling, thieving, infernal, white shirted free
nigger. (Twain 151). This little speech by Pap shows that he s a blatant racist who treats African
Americans as though they are not at all human beings. This novel is full of authentic points of view
from the various characters Huck encounters on his adventures. Twain uses dialog such as this to
educate readers about past conflicts such as the Civil War and slavery. Although highly controversial,
this novel has been used as an educational tool in English literature classrooms for years. The point is

What Is Tarantino s Pulp Fiction
Tarantino s Pulp Fiction is a fusion of Alfred Hitchcock and Jean Luc Godard because he creates a
style different from conventional movies of the 1980s. Godard and Hitchcock are known for their
outlandish, but revolutionary plays on storytelling. Tarantino does not abide by any rules in his film.
The film has three different stories that are intertwined to create one film. Tarantino borrows this
technique from Hitchcock. Bates Motel displays the story of Marion dies in the first 40 minutes ,
Norman Bates, and Marion s sister and husband. Somehow, both filmmakers are able to make things
work that most filmmakers would fail at. The use of episodic like films is prevalent in Hitchcock s
film who originally worked on television shows. The curiosity

Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem
DISOBEDIENCE AS A PSYCHOLOGICAL AND MORAL PROBLEM 2
Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem Erich Fromm
Erich Fromm s essay Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem suggests that humankind s
evolution has, and continues to rely on man s capability to exercise disobedience. While discussing the
positions of disobedience being considered a vice, and obedience being a virtue, Fromm reflects upon
the history of Adam and Eve believing that eating the forbidden fruit was man s first act of
disobedience. This is the point that broke the bond between man and nature requiring man to be
dependant upon his own powers, while rewarding him with his complete humanity, freedom, ... Show

He adds to this by introducing the concepts of rational and irrational authority, explaining that rational
authority would be equivalent to that of a teacher and student whereby there is mutual benefit, while
irrational authority would be identified by the likes of a slave and his owner who demonstrates
complete disregard of the slave s happiness or well being, his only interest being how the slave will
benefit him. Through a veil of lies man obeys the State, the Church, the mass opinions of their peers,
or any other organization that they view to be in power. This affords him a false sense of safety and
protection. In his obedience, man feels strong allowing him to be controlled by the fear of being
isolated or having undesirable repercussions greet him as a result of any disobedience. Throughout
history it has been evident that, for the most part, the few in power have ruled over the majority. The
foundation of this relationship has been the few equating obedience with virtue and disobedience with
sin, resulting in man not only needing to obey, but wanting to obey. Man s inability to see that he has
lost his ability to disobey and stand up for what he believes and values, instead of what he has been
brainwashed to believe and value, will inevitably ensure the destruction of all civilization at the hand
of man. Man s only saving grace will be his ability to realize

Natural Disasters In New Mexico
My group and I believe that the safest place in America is Las Vegas, New Mexico that is. New
Mexico is one of the few states with few to no common natural disasters. We believe this because the
only natural disaster in New Mexico is thunderstorms. Thunderstorms occur almost anywhere, they
are made by updrafts which is made with warm air rising. Las Vegas is free of hurricanes, tornadoes,
and earthquake and only has one natural disaster that is common, thunderstorms. One of the natural
disasters that doesn t occur in New Mexico is hurricanes. Hurricanes are formed in large bodies of
warm water roughly about 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Because there is no water, or at least large bodies of
water, no hurricanes can hit Las Vegas. Another

Tanks provided a substantial difference during the war. It increased mobility on the battlefield and in
due course broke the stalemate of trench warfare (WW1 Facts 1). The vast idea of the tank was
constructed in 1915 by a British Army colonel named Ernest Swinton and William Hankey, a secretary
of the Committee for Imperial Defense. The first tank prototype, Little Willie, was revealed in
September 1915. It was a great advancement of war technology and inspired and influenced other
countries to come up with their own models. But when Little Willie hit the battlefield, it turned out to
be a complete bust. It struggled to terrain the trenches and would often get caught in them. It traveled
very slowly and and quickly became overheated. Because of this, the British decided to make a newer

English Exploration of North America
The first British sponsored explorer to come to the Americas was John Cabot. King Henry VII of
England asked him to make several voyages in 1497 and 1498. He reached Cape Breton and Baffin
Islands in what is now Canada and he also went to Greenland. He was lost at sea during his second
voyage. He brought back word that there were many fish available in the waters off the coast. After
Cabot, due to internal religious fighting, England did very little in exploring the New World until the
1570s.
In the 1570s Queen Elizabeth I encouraged exploration of the islands in northern Canada to look for a
Northwest Passage. Sir Humphrey Gilbert made several voyages to eastern Canada and established St.

the purpose of establishing colonial settlements in North America. Jamestown served as the capital of
the colony for 83 years, from 1616 until 1699. Jamestown colony was followed by Plymouth,

Gun Control Restrictions
The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, which is the highest total in the world. The guns was
first intended for hunting and self protection. Later on, it was brought into the military for use. For that
reason, people believe that guns can only be used in the military. Others say that the Second
Amendment gives them the right to have guns and use it for protection. This was for if any person
tried to attack them, they would have protection with them at all times. Later on, guns got used for the
wrongs reasons. More crimes were being develop, like the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Now, people want more restrictions on gun ownership and how it should be used. If some restrictions
were to be made, some say it will not make much of a difference. Guns use had lead to violence in the
past, but also it coud be a good protection for humans against attackers. The argument that may still be
going on today is if the United States should put more restrictions on gun ownership and use. The
reasons why people are still asking for more restrictions is because more crimes and shooting as been
happening lately. There were about 126 mass shootings around 2001 to 2014. The opponents of this
issue think that if more restrictions were made, that would not change the fact that there would be as
much shootings as there was. Reasons to believe this was that even with more restrictions, shootings
would still go on. Nothing would stop the criminals from killing others. Now,

Essay on Kierkegaards View on Faith
Kierkegaards View on Faith
Kierkegaard was a Danish philosopher in the mid 1800s. He is known to be the father of
existentialism and was at least 70 years ahead of his time. Kierkegaard set out to attack Kant s rational
ethics and make attacks on the Christianity of our day. He poses the question, how do we understand
faith? He states that faith equals the absurd. In Fear and Trembling , he uses the story of Abraham and
his son Isaac to show an example of faith as the absurd. The story of God asking Abraham to sacrifice
his son Isaac signifies a break in the theory that ethics and religion go hand in hand. He shows how the
ethical and the religious can be completely different. I by no means conclude that faith is something

Abraham is known to be the father of faith. Abraham went beyond infinite resignation and made the
leap into faith. This is the peak on which Abraham stands. The last stage to pass from his view is the
stage of infinite resignation. He actually goes further and comes to faith (Fear and Trembling, 14).
Kierkegaard also revealed that to have faith, you must have passion which is not something we can
learn, we must experience it for ourselves. No general or universal rules apply to our choice of what to
believe. Whether a person has the right to say this must be his own decision; whether he can come to
an amicable agreement in this respect is a matter between himself and the eternal being, who is the
object of faith (Fear and Trembling, 21). Only the individual can decide. To him, faith was absurd
because you have to step out of your universal, surd self and make the leap into the absurdity of faith.
In conclusion, Kierkegaard decides that faith is paradoxical and completely absurd. He also concludes
that it has nothing to do with the ethical realm of reason and is actually much higher. In order to
perceive the prodigious paradox of faith, a paradox that makes a murder into a holy and God pleasing
act, a paradox that gives Isaac back to Abraham again, which no thought can grasp, because faith
begins precisely where thought stops... (Fear and Trembling, 22).

Power Relations Between India And Its Implications
In regards to power relations in India, it is important to be familiar with various theories of power.
These concepts are articulated in the scholarly works of Dumont, Gramsci and Sontheimer. In the text
of Homo Hierachius: The Caste System and its implications , Dumont uses the term encompassment
to explain power; where as Gramsci s Subaltern Culture theory is based on the concept of hegemony
and subaltern culture . On the other hand, Sontheimer looks at the aspects of Hinduism: The five
Components and Their Interaction .
Dumont attempts to explain the formulation of hierarchy system, by the concept of encompassment.
An example is given drawing from the biblical story of creation, which God created Adam as the
prototype of mankind. In the second phase God created Eve by extracting a part of Adams Rib
(Dumont 1970 p.240). They became the prototypes of female and male. This has turned Adam from
being undifferentiated to become a man. In this sense Adam had become two things the one who
represent mankind and the prototype of the male individual of his species (p.240). On one side men
and women are equal, however on the other hand women is the opposite to men. This describes the
hierarchy system, in which Eve is encompassed as being part of Adams body (p.241). This means a
hierarchy relation constitutes of a whole and the elements of this whole. The elements belong to the
whole as a set and although they look identical, at the same time they are different.

Analysis of the Graduate Essay
The Graduate is a great example of a film where lens and camera choices were used effectively to
convey the director s point of view. It seemed like every choice made by the director Mike Nichols

played an important role in shaping the message of the film. The cinematography of Bob Surtees is
very complicated and thoughtful but at the same time seems poetic and spontaneous.

The image seems very flat. The viewer cannot focus on anything but the characters faces. The depth of
field and depth of focus are very small. One of the reasons why this scene was shot like that was
because of the rain. Mike Nichols wanted this scene to take place on a very rainy day. Of course no
one would ever think about waiting for real rain in Beverly Hills during the summer so they had to
create it by themselves. The crew set up a rainmaker over the car in which the actors were riding.
They shot from alongside and from in front using a 500 millimeter telephoto lens which threw the
background so far out of focus that it was impossible to tell whether it was pouring in the distance or
not. This was a great example of a practical use of lenses. The Graduate, however, was rich in many
experimental uses of the camera that were mainly chosen to more directly describe the characters state
of minds.
Thinking that confessing the truth to Elaine will solve everything, Benjamin makes a major
miscalculation. He rushes towards the house with Mrs. Robinson pursuing close behind. Here again,
the scene of Ben running towards the house was shot with a telephoto lens. This lens was chosen to
create an illusion that rain is present everywhere, not only over Ben s head. The use of the telephoto
lens and the movement of the camera created another very interesting effect. The moment when Ben is
running was shot from a farther distance. One can notice that the camera

The Last Judgement Tympanum At St-Lazare Analysis
The Last Judgment tympanum at Saint Lazare is also incredibly significant due to the fact that no
other tympanum from the Romanesque is so boldly and recognizably claimed by the artist. In the
middle of the composition is the phrase Gislebertus hoc fecit , which roughly translates to Gislebertus
made this and serves as the alleged artist s signature. As mentioned previously, few of the large
stoneworks from this era can be directly linked to a specific person. The signature left behind at Saint
Lazare can be easily interpreted as a big display of artistic confidence, a quality more frequently seen
from master artists of the Renaissance and onward. During this period, Romanesque sculptures
attached to architecture were relegated in status to secondary importance to stonemasons, and the
tympanums were seen as very separate objects. By placing his signature here, Gislebertus claims the
piece as his own work and firmly establishes himself as an artist rather than simply a sculptor. There
are historians who question whether the signature left behind is actually indicative of patronage rather
than the artist responsible for it; a patron placing themselves within a piece ... Show more content on

in great amounts. The book talks about an experiment we discussed in class, social psychology, and
how certain situations can affect an individual s personality. First, this book includes a full and

The theory is that people are not inherently evil, but can easily become evil if put in the right situation
and if the operation of the situation allows it. This relates to the fundamental attribution error that we
discussed in class. Many people do not think of how much the situation of an event plays into what
happened. They rely too heavily on personality. Therefor, if someone acts cruelty, they are just a cruel
person. However, that may not necessarily be the case. Zimbardo uses Abu Ghraib as a perfect
example of this. The soldiers that heinous acts or torture were previously seen as good eggs. They
were not bad people. However, a situation arose where they received power, and the operation that
allowed them to have that power also let it become corrupt. This is also shown in the Stanford Prison
Experiment. When given the role of a prison guard, an individual must think of how a guard would
act. They then try to act accordingly, even if this may cause cognitive dissonance. They saw the
situation and decided that they needed to be dominate and authoritative. As was seen however, this can
quickly get out of hand. At Stanford, the students go from insults to torture as Zimbardo describes.
Anonymity also plays a lead role in these situations. If a person is in a situation where they are
anonymous, their actions could very well

In this painting by Tim Burton, our eyes are immediately drawn to the large, red spiral connected to a

How Technology Has Changed The World And How Things Are Done
3 D printing is an emerging technology, that if properly done, has the potential to change the world
and how things are done. Although there have been many advancements over the years, with further
research and development this technology can become less expensive, easier to make, and bring us
things like household products and printed pizza. The Oxford dictionary defines 3 D printing as a
process for making a physical object from a three dimensional digital model, typically by laying down
many successive thin layers of a material (Definition of 3D printing in English).
3 D printing has existed for decades and has morphed from a simplistic technology into a complex
one. It all started in 1984, when Charles Hull came up with the idea of a 3 D printer. The online book
Where are you from? states that, It first started with The Charles Hull s invention of stereo
lithography, which gave engineers and designers the ability to create 3 D models of their designs by
printing them . The printers use lasers and materials like plastics and polymers, that scan back and
forth making objects that were previously designed on a computer and then uploaded onto the printer.
Now deciding what type of 3 D printer to buy can be the hardest thing. In certain cases, 3D printers
are better bought either fully assembled or self assembled. A lot of places go ahead and buy a printer
that is fully assembled and that can work as soon as they take it out of the box. Although some people

The schooling system is broken when it comes to whether students think learning the content or
receiving a grade is more important. I was talking to my father about this article, and he brought up an
advanced English class at the college he attended. The students who were eligible to take this class
were the most talented and the highest in their class. The professor was presented with a problem. He
did not feel settled grading these talented students in his class according to the bell curve college
classes commonly use. He did not feel right handing out Cs and Bs to these A students. Instead of
grading the students on the curve, the professor gave every kid in the class an A, and turned in their
final grades on the first day. He expected all of the students to show interest, give maximal effort, and
contribute to the class. He understood that they were all talented enough to receive an A. The
professor eliminated any stress a grade would bring to these students, and he allowed them to fully
focus on learning. I understand that a teacher cannot do that in a high school biology class, but there
are ways to prevent cheating and engage learning. This biology teacher may not feel right in allowing
these twenty eight kids to pass, but I believe that she should feel obligated in her heart to stay and
prevent this from happening again. School is about learning about oneself and growing as a person;

generation are becoming less intelligent because of the constant use of technology. In this article, a
psychologist cleared up this worry. The psychologist stated in the article that Kids who are good
spellers [academically] are good spellers in instant messaging, and kids who are poor spellers in
English class are poor spellers in instant messaging. The implied conclusion is that texting and writing
in school do not relate negatively. This study is a positive correlation however, the coefficient is very
low. Children have learned that their texting language and their language at school is completely
separate. The are easily able to go back and forth from one to another once they have become
accustomed to both of these languages. Students know that there is a difference between correctly
writing a paper in school and correctly writing a text. According to the article and the implied
conclusion, parents do not need to worry about their children s texting skills ruining their spelling
habits. Section 2: Template for Analyzing Experiments Research Step Your Description of the

Personal Narrative-Marching Band
We were this close to being stripped of our Undefeated title. The band sat there in the bleachers,
stunned as the announcer pulled up the scores and was ready to reveal first place. Blood rushed
through my veins and the butterflies in my stomach were more active as ever. After all of our hard
work, it would have been a shame if we did not conclude the season with a bang. The announcer
raised her microphone and everything seemed to come to a halt. Memories began to race through my
mind as I started to look back at the time when I first joined the marching band. Coming into high
school, I was not reluctant to try out new things, and marching band was an activity that would allow
me to open myself up to others and develop a strong sense

Future Contract Essay
Futures contract
In finance, a futures contract is a standardized contract between two parties to exchange a specified
asset of standardized quantity and quality for a price agreed today (the futures price or the strike price)
but with delivery occurring at a specified future date, the delivery date. The contracts are traded on a
futures exchange. The party agreeing to buy the underlying asset in the future, the buyer of the
contract, is said to be long , and the party agreeing to sell the asset in the future, the seller of the
contract, is said to be short . The terminology reflects the expectations of the parties the buyer hopes

To minimize credit risk to the exchange, traders must post a margin or a performance bond, typically

To minimize counterparty risk to traders, trades executed on regulated futures exchanges are
guaranteed by a clearing house. The clearing house becomes the buyer to each seller, and the seller to
each buyer, so that in the event of a counterparty default the clearer assumes the risk of loss. This
enables traders to transact without performing due diligence on their counterparty.
Margin requirements are waived or reduced in some cases for hedgers who have physical ownership

Description And Rationale Of Research Methodologies
III. RESEARCH METHODS USED IN STUDY
A. Description and rationale of research methodologies The focus of my research relied on numerous
different sources, including surveys of the city, interviewing the manager, questioning the employees
while asking them to fill out a survey. I used various resources to obtain my information using
surveys, interviews, and questioning the employees of the store. The primary goal of the survey was to
enhance my understanding of the imperative issues they face when trying to motivate them to work
hard. In other words, I tried to understand how the workers viewed management and analyze the
different ways I can inspire them to be more productive.
Forms of Research Goals of Research
Secondary 1. Gather background information on the store s services and operations. 2. Gain insight
into the current market segments and growing sectors of the population, along with generational data.
3. Find out what customers and the market think about the store s current state.
Primary 1. Information about the store s current productivity enhancing program, target market, and
other basic yet necessary numerical and qualitative data to develop a conception of the current state of
the store 2. Find out the manager s opinion on employee engagement strategies and how it affects the
stores productivity. 3. What customers and current employees think of the management and find
possible ways to create a more productive environment for the employees to work in.

Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the next protocol version that it is used for communications on
Internet. The Internet based on IPv4 protocol has made countless success in the past 20 years. Yet it
has some limitations that were not estimated when it was first created, the IPv4 protocol cannot
content the requirements of the Internet expanding. It is reported that all unallocated addresses for
IPv4 will be used up within 5 to 6 years. IPv6 protocol suite was presented in IETF (Internet Engineer
Task Force) on 1994. This suite is using 128 bit address instead of 32 bit IPv4 address. The United
States, Europe, and East Asia were the first to recognize the significance of IPv6 and plan to deploy it.
Transition to IPv6 has been documented as the most promising direction, because Ipv6 overcomes
many of IPv4 limitations, and it is the only viable long term replacement for IPv4.
The migration to IPv6 has started already, but it is still in its early stages. The current IPv4 based
Internet is so large and so complex that the migration from IPv4 to IPv6 is not as easy as the transition
from NCP network to TCP/IP in 1983. One of the most important concepts that should be deliberately
weighed is, How to protect the investment that already exists and reduce the negative influence on
users and ISPs during the transition process. Certainly, the research on IPv6 transition is of vital
importance for the success of IPv6 protocol and the future of the Internet.

Why Germany Lost the First World War
Why Germany lost the First World War
The First World War ended with the triple entente as victorious (with help from the Americans). Some
reasons to why the allies won the war were because of; Germany had to fight a war on two fronts, the
unstable political situation in Germany, the allied naval blockade, German economy, failure of the
schlieffen plan, interception of the Zimmerman telegram, the German naval blockade on Britain
(sinking of American ships), development of the tank and anti submarine weapons, the advancement
of new technology that required new tactics.
The Naval blockade
The British blockade was a key factor in the defeat of Germany. Starved of supplies, the German army
was weakened and the German people lost some of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to trench warfare. The Germans were not prepared to do this type of war, they did not have
the resources to do this due to the british naval blockade. Concerning the Schleiffen plan there were a
few severe miscalculations that led to gargantuan problems, the Germans had miscalculated the
amount of soldiers, supplies and communication that required to be transported across the country
from east to west and back. This miscalculation was not expected due to Germany thinking that Russia
would be slow to mobilize and thereby give Germany time to first beat the French then later turn all
their forces towards the east to face Russia.
Weak Allies
Germany had chosen her allies badly, they had allied themselves to the decaying Austrian Empire,
Ottoman Empire and Italy. Germany had chosen badly when relying on Italy to help out in the war
since as soon as war was declared Italy pulled out of the alliance. Also Germany had to constantly
assist the Austrian Empire in protecting their own territory. This led to problems as this exhausted
troops that would and should have been sent to fight the war in the trenches. Germany also sent
supplies that should have been sent to the soldiers fighting on the front line. If Germany had stronger
and more reliable allies then the outcome of the war would have been different.
Political Unrest
As the war went on and millions died Germany s censored propaganda released only tales of glorious
combat and

  • 2. School Uniforms And The Constitution Argumentative Essay: School Uniforms and the Constitution HOMETOPICAPPEALSREFUTATIONSOURCE ESSAY School Uniforms School uniforms are becoming a popular trend amongst schools. Students and even most parents don t agree with the enforcement with school uniforms; stating that uniforms take away the right of self expression. School uniforms are not a negative thing to have. Yes, uniforms limit what the students have to choose to wear to school every day, but it doesn t limit them from learning; the only reason they are in school. Student treat school as a fashion show, so eliminating that puts the students full focus on schoolwork. Although requiring students to wear school uniforms may violate their self expression in some ways, a uniform are supposed to be looked upon as a positive thing, because they eliminate bullying, combine social classes and gives the school campus a professional look. The most common argument against school uniforms is that they take away the students right to self expression. Yes, school uniforms limit what the students have to wear, but he/she can still have their own ways of self expression. Students can still express their style of choice by the way he/she styles their hair and what accessories they choose to wear. Their shoe choice is also a form of self expression. • 3. How Did Batman Kill The Joker Let s take a look at Bruce Wayne (Batman). As a kid, he watched his parents being murdered by a mugger right in front of him and this drove him to fight crime in Gotham City as Batman. Now we take a look at the Joker was a one time failed comedian who turned to a life of crime as the Red Hood to support his pregnant wife. Unfortunately, due to a run in with Batman, the Red Hood leaped into a chemical vat to escape, thereby disfiguring himself. Combined with the death of his wife, he was driven insane, effectively becoming The Joker. Each one of these character s are very unique, but in different ways. I can remember as a kid watching Batman Robin on black and white television, how the Joker always committed crimes, murdered, etc. I can recall asking my grandfather why Batman never kills the Joker in any of the episodes and he basically told me that if Batman killed the Joker, what would be the purpose of watching the show? ... Seven Years War Analysis Canada is a well known country for it s diverse residents, powerful economy, civilized citizens but more significantly its peaceful population and although Canada s reputation has been highly respected, the 1700s was an era which is only remembered for it s greed for power and it s various battles of blood. Despite the short term and long term consequences of the Seven Years War, a few of the after effects of the battle have created an eternal significance to our modern society. Firstly, one of the most horrific practises of the world of assimilation, where one is forced to convert to another religion, follow different customs and orders and have to have any memory of their true beliefs to be erased is completely barbaric, but was one of the events that occurred in 1750s to the French! Despite the 1774 Québec Act where the French regained their lost rights, I still believe that this was one of the tragedies that nevertheless remains an issue in this advanced community. • 5. Sidney Defends The Worth Of Poetry Sidney defends the worth of poetry by presenting us with a long defense written to William Ponsonby, a very popular publisher of the Elizabethan era. Sidney breaks his argument down into eight sections, each one arguing another point as to why poetry is worthy and should not be thought of as sub par literature. His arguments are thorough, leaving no gaps between thoughts, and very persuasive in both content and style. I believe his argument is both successful and thorough, covering everything that has been critiqued about poesy in the ages before this work was written. Sidney opens with the first section called the Exordium in lines 1 50. It is significant to note that it was printed several years after his death, communicating the aristocratic air we get from him, manliness, courtier, advisor, masculine roles that Sidney is hinting at comparing himself to a horse master. The introduction here of his argument is lighthearted and funny, if I had not been a piece of a logician before I came to him I think he would have persuaded me to have wished myself a horse (27 30). This show of establishing his own good character through Ethos, pathos the applying to peoples emotions as well as William Ponsonby s emotions, as this is whom the argument is addressed to. Sidney s thesis is visible in lines 43 51 where he says that he will bring forth the evidence to prove that poetry is a worthy literary medium and that without poetry we do not have history or philosophy. Those who disagreed with the western Pakistani ideas concerning language, religion, and direction of the country would experience varying degrees of violence at the hands of the military junta. Moreover, as a form of psychological terror, the military forced the people to line up in front of one another, proceeding to shoot down line after line in front of the remaining crowd. At the beginning of the genocide following the start of Operation Searchlight and the attack on Dhaka University there was mass confusion and hysteria among the people. All over, Eastern Pakistan people were wandering aimlessly and in April around thirty million had started to flee in order to escape the grasp of the military. Ten million refugees went into India and overwhelmed the country s resources, which eventually became a catalyst for Indian military intervention. It is worthy to note that a large number of these refugees were Hindu. Additionally, the influx of the Bengali people in India was estimated to be 10 million refugees and it is estimated that 1.5 million stayed in India after Bangladesh gained its independence (GenocideBangladesh). This increase in refugees resulted in a mix of cultures as well. Consequently, this was a negative impact on East Pakistan, and subsequently Bangladesh, for the long term because their intellectuals had fled, depriving them of ideas, new thoughts, and innovation, and proper leadership that could have led them to a higher position in the world today due to the absence of these important people in that time (GenocideBangladesh). Belfast Of Canada Smith s (2015) evaluation of the Toronto as the Belfast of Canada is important because it defines the existence of a strong pro Ulster faction of Irish Protestant that received large scale support from the British government to countermand the rise of Irish Catholicism in the city. The comparison of Toronto to Belfast has its limitations due to the far lesser scale of violence experienced between Irish Protestants and Catholics, but it must also be acknowledged that many Irish immigrants coming over during the Great Famine endured poverty and similar economic conditions. The majority of the Protestant emigrants of the Famine era appear not to have been well off. Most of them spent a few years visiting relatives and working in Carleton or Middlesex counties after arriving from Ireland in the 1850s (Elliot, 2014, p.111). In this deeper analysis of Irish population arriving during the Famine, it is apparent that protestant and Catholic both suffered from poverty after coming to Toronto. Certainly, a majority of immigrants were of Catholic descent, but there were certainly Protestant Irish being forced off their land in Ireland during the Famine. These are important details that define why Toronto was not nearly as hostile as Belfast, since the similar aspects of poverty, Irish nationalism, and Irish culture were shared values in the overall disposition of Irish immigrants ... • 8. The Decline Of Fertility Rates In 1930, Thompson developed one of the first theories to explain the decline in fertility rates starting to be seen in industrializing nations (Thompson, 1930). Joined by Notestein in 1953, this classical theory of demographic transition postulates that changes in social life from industrialization and urbanization would cause first a decline in mortality followed by a decline in fertility (Notestein, 1953; Mason, 1997). Since the early 20th century, the world has undergone major demographic changes. In the first decade of the 21st century for the first time, the old outnumbered the young, and the median number of children per woman fell below replacement levels (Cohen, 2005). Demography is influenced by a multitude of factors, many of which are yet unknown or unquantifiable. Demographic changes can arise from unsuspecting sources; for example Chong et al (2008) found that the spread of soap operas in Brazil, which portrayed smaller families than typical in Brazil, contributed to fertility decline in that country through shifting cultural ideals. Acknowledging that demographic changes occur due to a great variety of economic, social, cultural, ecologic and other causes, I will focus on the role that health policies can play in demographic trends both pre and post the demographic transition by examining the cases of Bangladesh and Germany. I will also examine how demographic trends may influence economic growth. During the period of population growth in the demographic transition, society may experience economic growth in what is known as the demographic dividend. During this period, the population participating in the labor force is greater than the dependent population, freeing up resources for innovation and investment (Lee and Mason, 2006). However, this dividend is not guaranteed but must be created through a conducive policy environment (Bloom et al, 2003). Post transition, economic growth continues to be a concern as society confronts the burden of an aging, and potentially shrinking, population. It will give the reader a basic understanding of the virus and disease, as well as information on prevention and treatment. Background Rabies is thought to be an endemic in the Arctic, Northern Canada and former regions of the Soviet Union (NUNAVUT REF). Rabies is a zoonotic, neuro invasive disease caused by the Rabies Rhabdovirus Lyssavirus (Merck Veterinary Manual, 2015). The deterioration causes the brain to not function properly, leading to the animal acting abnormal. The abnormal behaviour results in a variety of signs and symptoms, including aggression (Remedy Health Media, 2016). Rabies is a federally reportable disease, including all suspect cases. • 12. Analysis Of American Pie Modernism was a 20th century literary movement that depicted a period of uncertainty and disillusion in the United States. The literary movement was marked by various culture shock caused by events such as both World Wars and the Vietnam War. Because of such shock, American culture and societal values changed as society began to focus more on the self and forgo the traditional Victorian values and virtues of the preceding Romantic era. During this movement, writer sought to write in a way that better suited the modern world and thus chose to focus on the decay of values and growing alienation of the individual. Writers and poets began using techniques such as streams of consciousness and writing with a sense of ambiguity. There was also the poetic movement, imagism during the Modernism era where poets became increasingly concerned with presenting a simple, clear image to their readers. Due to his use of modernist techniques and poetic devices such as the adoption of the stream of consciousness writing style, the use imagery, allusions, and symbolism, Don McLean s song, American Pie, can be considered a work of modernist poetry. By way of his literary techniques and poetic devices, McLean is able to take his listeners through a pivotal decade in American history in just eight and a half minutes; however, it is what makes his lyrics a song that helps build American Pie s tone and further develop the theme of a generation s early loss of innocence, culture, and values that ... • 15. Compare And Contrast Slaughter House Five And... In the novels, Slaughterhouse Five written by Kurt Vonnegut and What is the What by Dave Eggers, the authors use techniques to help contribute to the development of the readers curiosity about how the story might end. As a result, it leaves them a feeling of wanting more of the storyline until the very last page. The novel Slaughterhouse Five is written by author Kurt Vonnegut, who experienced and survived the World War II. He expresses his personal feelings regarding the war through the main character, Billy Pilgrim and simple language, allowing readers to easily understand and experience moments of the past, present, and future with him. One the other hand, the novel What is the What by Dave Eggers, the author narrates the challenging life story in first person point of view of a Sudanese refugee, Valentino Achak Deng, Thereby, creating a bridge between readers and author which similarly allows them to experience the refugee lifestyle and connect on a personal level. The two novels share a similar technique of using first person narrative with texts that offer a rich and thorough glimpse into the narrator s involvements through inner dialogue and explanation. Additionally, the technique of involving authors produces an individualized touch using texts with emotional experiences that would otherwise go unnoticed by a third party, such as feelings, sounds, tastes and smell described by the author. Thus, depicting and setting the scene for readers to get involved in the story from a personal point of view and grasping their attention until the end. • 16. Investment Case Study Do the circumstances surrounding the sale of the Collinsville plant play any role in your willingness to buy the assets? If so, how, if not, why not? On the one hand, the circumstances of the sale make me less willing to buy. In particular, both Universal and the federal government think that American s acquisition creates antitrust issues. If this is the case, American could use its market power to change the nature of the market and make Dixon s new plant unprofitable by setting lower prices for sodium chlorate in its other plants. On the other hand, the circumstances make me more willing to buy the assets because American has to divest the plant to comply with a court order. With these assumptions, the present value of the total cash flows value the plant at $7.9M.[5] Under this valuation, the $12M offer seems high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the laminate technology. Even if we relax the assumptions and use the lower end WACC in our range of 14.5% and assume that capital expenditures will be the low end of the range at $475k per annum after 1984, the deal at $12M would still be dilutive because the DCF value is still only $8.9M.[6] At the other extreme, assuming a WACC of 18.5% and capital expenditures of $600k per annum, the plant is only worth $7.5M. While the model above does not account for the return of working capital at the end of year in 1989, the discounted value of this working capital is only worth about $650k and therefore does not substantially alter the analysis. Given this analysis, the deal is dilutive and Dixon should not make the investment. 2) Evaluate the marginal impact of the laminate technology (i.e. net present value of the costs savings and expenses assuming that without laminate, graphite costs go up 5% per year after 1984 and power costs rise 12% after 1984). • 17. Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus And Mellitus Introduction: Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that occurs when insulin producing beta cells of the pancreas are damaged or are being destroyed (Mahan, Escott Stump Raymond, 2012). The gradual destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas usually leads to complete insulin deficiency, which ultimately manifests itself in the following symptoms at clinical onset: high blood glucose (hyperglycemia), frequent urination (polyuria), excessive thirst (polydipsia), and a significant amount of weight loss, dehydration, electrolyte disturbances and ketoacidosis , requiring dependency of exogenous insulin in order to promote optimal glycemic control in order to prevent further more severe complications; such as, ketoacidosis, microvascular diseases, macrovascular diseases, neuropathy, or worse Death (Mahan et al., 2012). Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus can result from two existing forms: 1. Immune mediated diabetes Mellitus, which is characterized by autoimmune destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas and an idiopathic (unknown cause) commonly seen in ethnic groups of African or Asian descent (Mahan et al., 2012). Of all diagnosed diabetes cases, prevalence of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus cases account for 5% 10%, and although onset may present itself at any age, 70% of cases are diagnosed in young adults (younger than age 30), with a peak in occurring incidences seen mostly in children and adolescents (Mahan et al., 2012). A courtly lady sits in a candle lit room, with her writing hand poised above a book of parchment. Her face brightens in an instant of inspiration and she scribbles furiously onto the paper. This woman is closely associated with the royal court and is something of an anachronism, a woman author in a male dominated world. Here she reveals that since much of it might appear malicious and even harmful to other people, I was careful to keep my book hidden. But now it has become public, which is the last thing I expected. At one point, Shonagon confesses that while a younger girl might risk the consequences of putting down such impieties, a woman of her age should be less flippant. Here, the police officers that detained Mr. Knight are law enforcement officials; however, Mr. Knight was not in custody because he was stopped for a short and temporary amount of time, and the officers explicitly told him that he would be free to go after completing the traffic summons paperwork. Additionally, Mr. Knight s incriminating statements during his detention were not the product of an interrogation because they were voluntary and not reasonably foreseeable by Officer Davis. Consequently, Mr. Knight did not require a Miranda warning, meaning his incriminating statements in the patrol car cannot be suppressed under the Fifth Amendment. A. • 21. Essay on In Defense of Historical Fiction The genre of historical fiction novels can be subdivided into many categories and often crosses genres, such as historical mysteries and romances. The traditional definition of the historical fiction genre is fiction set in the past where the author is writing from research rather than personal experience. This definition leaves a lot of room for interpretation, controversy, and contradiction. Critics in the media, even when they praise individual historical novels in their reviews, somehow manage to turn this praise into criticism of the genre as a whole. In 1950, author Howard Fast, a historical novelist himself, wrote: This is an era of many historical novels, few of them good and very few indeed which have more than a nodding ... The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is a classic example of a successful historical fiction novel depicting the life and adventures of youthful boys in the Mississippi River town of St. Petersburg, Missouri and various locations along the river through Arkansas. Readers of this novel are confronted with difficult themes such as slavery and revolution in the south before the Civil War. In chapter 6 of the novel we see Huck s father, Pap, confronted with a finely dressed and educated free African American. As the man passes Pap states, There, now that s a specimen. They call that a govment that can t sell a free nigger till he s been in the State six months. Here s a govment that calls itself a govment, and lets on to be a govment, and thinks it is a govment, and yet s got to set stock still for six whole months before it can take a hold of a prowling, thieving, infernal, white shirted free nigger. (Twain 151). This little speech by Pap shows that he s a blatant racist who treats African Americans as though they are not at all human beings. This novel is full of authentic points of view from the various characters Huck encounters on his adventures. Twain uses dialog such as this to educate readers about past conflicts such as the Civil War and slavery. Although highly controversial, this novel has been used as an educational tool in English literature classrooms for years. The point is there are numerous historical fiction ... Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem DISOBEDIENCE AS A PSYCHOLOGICAL AND MORAL PROBLEM 2 Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem Erich Fromm Erich Fromm s essay Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem suggests that humankind s evolution has, and continues to rely on man s capability to exercise disobedience. While discussing the positions of disobedience being considered a vice, and obedience being a virtue, Fromm reflects upon the history of Adam and Eve believing that eating the forbidden fruit was man s first act of disobedience. He adds to this by introducing the concepts of rational and irrational authority, explaining that rational authority would be equivalent to that of a teacher and student whereby there is mutual benefit, while irrational authority would be identified by the likes of a slave and his owner who demonstrates complete disregard of the slave s happiness or well being, his only interest being how the slave will benefit him. Through a veil of lies man obeys the State, the Church, the mass opinions of their peers, or any other organization that they view to be in power. This affords him a false sense of safety and protection. In his obedience, man feels strong allowing him to be controlled by the fear of being isolated or having undesirable repercussions greet him as a result of any disobedience. Throughout history it has been evident that, for the most part, the few in power have ruled over the majority. The foundation of this relationship has been the few equating obedience with virtue and disobedience with sin, resulting in man not only needing to obey, but wanting to obey. Man s inability to see that he has lost his ability to disobey and stand up for what he believes and values, instead of what he has been brainwashed to believe and value, will inevitably ensure the destruction of all civilization at the hand of man. He is known to be the father of existentialism and was at least 70 years ahead of his time. Kierkegaard set out to attack Kant s rational ethics and make attacks on the Christianity of our day. He poses the question, how do we understand faith? He states that faith equals the absurd. In Fear and Trembling , he uses the story of Abraham and his son Isaac to show an example of faith as the absurd. The story of God asking Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac signifies a break in the theory that ethics and religion go hand in hand. Abraham is known to be the father of faith. Abraham went beyond infinite resignation and made the leap into faith. This is the peak on which Abraham stands. The last stage to pass from his view is the stage of infinite resignation. He actually goes further and comes to faith (Fear and Trembling, 14). Kierkegaard also revealed that to have faith, you must have passion which is not something we can learn, we must experience it for ourselves. No general or universal rules apply to our choice of what to believe. Whether a person has the right to say this must be his own decision; whether he can come to an amicable agreement in this respect is a matter between himself and the eternal being, who is the object of faith (Fear and Trembling, 21). Only the individual can decide. To him, faith was absurd because you have to step out of your universal, surd self and make the leap into the absurdity of faith. In conclusion, Kierkegaard decides that faith is paradoxical and completely absurd. He also concludes that it has nothing to do with the ethical realm of reason and is actually much higher. In order to perceive the prodigious paradox of faith, a paradox that makes a murder into a holy and God pleasing act, a paradox that gives Isaac back to Abraham again, which no thought can grasp, because faith begins precisely where thought stops... • 31. Power Relations Between India And Its Implications In regards to power relations in India, it is important to be familiar with various theories of power. These concepts are articulated in the scholarly works of Dumont, Gramsci and Sontheimer. In the text of Homo Hierachius: The Caste System and its implications , Dumont uses the term encompassment to explain power; where as Gramsci s Subaltern Culture theory is based on the concept of hegemony and subaltern culture . On the other hand, Sontheimer looks at the aspects of Hinduism: The five Components and Their Interaction . Dumont attempts to explain the formulation of hierarchy system, by the concept of encompassment. An example is given drawing from the biblical story of creation, which God created Adam as the prototype of mankind. In the second phase God created Eve by extracting a part of Adams Rib (Dumont 1970 p.240). They became the prototypes of female and male. This has turned Adam from being undifferentiated to become a man. In this sense Adam had become two things the one who represent mankind and the prototype of the male individual of his species (p.240). On one side men and women are equal, however on the other hand women is the opposite to men. This describes the hierarchy system, in which Eve is encompassed as being part of Adams body (p.241). This means a hierarchy relation constitutes of a whole and the elements of this whole. The viewer cannot focus on anything but the characters faces. The depth of field and depth of focus are very small. One of the reasons why this scene was shot like that was because of the rain. Mike Nichols wanted this scene to take place on a very rainy day. Of course no one would ever think about waiting for real rain in Beverly Hills during the summer so they had to create it by themselves. The crew set up a rainmaker over the car in which the actors were riding. They shot from alongside and from in front using a 500 millimeter telephoto lens which threw the background so far out of focus that it was impossible to tell whether it was pouring in the distance or not. This was a great example of a practical use of lenses. The Graduate, however, was rich in many experimental uses of the camera that were mainly chosen to more directly describe the characters state of minds. Thinking that confessing the truth to Elaine will solve everything, Benjamin makes a major miscalculation. He rushes towards the house with Mrs. Robinson pursuing close behind. Here again, the scene of Ben running towards the house was shot with a telephoto lens. This lens was chosen to create an illusion that rain is present everywhere, not only over Ben s head. The use of the telephoto lens and the movement of the camera created another very interesting effect. The moment when Ben is running was shot from a farther distance. They rely too heavily on personality. Therefor, if someone acts cruelty, they are just a cruel person. However, that may not necessarily be the case. Zimbardo uses Abu Ghraib as a perfect example of this. The soldiers that heinous acts or torture were previously seen as good eggs. They were not bad people. However, a situation arose where they received power, and the operation that allowed them to have that power also let it become corrupt. This is also shown in the Stanford Prison Experiment. The implied conclusion is that texting and writing in school do not relate negatively. This study is a positive correlation however, the coefficient is very low. Children have learned that their texting language and their language at school is completely separate. The are easily able to go back and forth from one to another once they have become accustomed to both of these languages. Students know that there is a difference between correctly writing a paper in school and correctly writing a text. According to the article and the implied conclusion, parents do not need to worry about their children s texting skills ruining their spelling habits. • 49. Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the next protocol version that it is used for communications on Internet. The Internet based on IPv4 protocol has made countless success in the past 20 years. Yet it has some limitations that were not estimated when it was first created, the IPv4 protocol cannot content the requirements of the Internet expanding. It is reported that all unallocated addresses for IPv4 will be used up within 5 to 6 years. IPv6 protocol suite was presented in IETF (Internet Engineer Task Force) on 1994. This suite is using 128 bit address instead of 32 bit IPv4 address. The United States, Europe, and East Asia were the first to recognize the significance of IPv6 and plan to deploy it. Transition to IPv6 has been documented as the most promising direction, because Ipv6 overcomes many of IPv4 limitations, and it is the only viable long term replacement for IPv4. The migration to IPv6 has started already, but it is still in its early stages. The current IPv4 based Internet is so large and so complex that the migration from IPv4 to IPv6 is not as easy as the transition from NCP network to TCP/IP in 1983. One of the most important concepts that should be deliberately weighed is, How to protect the investment that already exists and reduce the negative influence on users and ISPs during the transition process. Certainly, the research on IPv6 transition is of vital importance for the success of IPv6 protocol and the future of the Internet. As many international ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Why Germany Lost the First World War Why Germany lost the First World War The First World War ended with the triple entente as victorious (with help from the Americans). Some reasons to why the allies won the war were because of; Germany had to fight a war on two fronts, the unstable political situation in Germany, the allied naval blockade, German economy, failure of the schlieffen plan, interception of the Zimmerman telegram, the German naval blockade on Britain (sinking of American ships), development of the tank and anti submarine weapons, the advancement of new technology that required new tactics. The Naval blockade The British blockade was a key factor in the defeat of Germany. Starved of supplies, the German army was weakened and the German people lost some of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This led to trench warfare. The Germans were not prepared to do this type of war, they did not have the resources to do this due to the british naval blockade. Concerning the Schleiffen plan there were a few severe miscalculations that led to gargantuan problems, the Germans had miscalculated the amount of soldiers, supplies and communication that required to be transported across the country from east to west and back. This miscalculation was not expected due to Germany thinking that Russia would be slow to mobilize and thereby give Germany time to first beat the French then later turn all their forces towards the east to face Russia. Weak Allies Germany had chosen her allies badly, they had allied themselves to the decaying Austrian Empire, Ottoman Empire and Italy. Germany had chosen badly when relying on Italy to help out in the war since as soon as war was declared Italy pulled out of the alliance. Also Germany had to constantly assist the Austrian Empire in protecting their own territory. This led to problems as this exhausted troops that would and should have been sent to fight the war in the trenches. Germany also sent supplies that should have been sent to the soldiers fighting on the front line. If Germany had stronger and more reliable allies then the outcome of the war would have been different.
