Lady Germanotta
In a world of auto tuned music with processed lyrics and a general lack of individuality, outstanding
talent is laborious to come by. However, this is not the case with Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta;
most commonly known under the name Lady Gaga. Raised in a Catholic household with roots based
in family, she was brought up with traditional conservative views. However, growing up in Manhattan,
New York, Gaga was consistently surrounded by all forms of art. Since the young age of thirteen,
Stefani began writing her own music and playing the piano. At seventeen, prior to singing, she studied
at the Collaborative Arts Project 21 through New York University s Tisch School of the Arts. This did
not last for long, as Stefani left school to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since a young age, she has known that she was attracted to both male and female, identifying herself
as bisexual. This was an issue for her in school, as it led to bullying. However, when it currently
comes to pressing sexual questions by interviewers, she answers them without faltering. While she
believes everyone has the choice to disclose what information they want, Stefani Germanotta also
does not think being gay or being bisexual or being sexually free is anything that should be hidden...it
is who I am (Snider). Her stability with sexuality and sex in general is also evident in her body of
work. In the song Love Game , she has provocative lines such as I wanna take a ride on your disco
stick among other suggestive innuendos (Carman). In terms of her acting career, her recent
involvement with the television series American Horror Story: Hotel has brought the media flocking.
Throughout the season, Lady Gaga was shown in multiple sexually explicit scenes with both male and
female counterparts. With her boldness on the topic, Stefani works to send messages to her fans that
sex is an important subject to discuss. Although the air of seriousness has disappeared from the topic,
she believes it s [important] for my generation, a most relevant consideration when you re growing up.
Sex doesn t mean nothing; sex means so much... I hope that young women know that sex is still a big
deal (Thompson). While some people would prefer to label sex as a taboo matter, the discussion of the
subject by celebrities like Gaga provide the needed insensitivity and education that is often forgone.
Stigmatism revolving around the topic of sexual assault leaves it a delicate subject to discuss, yet a
necessary conversation. The lack of boundaries for the crime is proven with one in six women falling
victim of the horrendous attack. At the age of

Relationship Of Project For Business Operations
Relationship of project to strategy of the business
Surrena Hooks
MSL 5080 13D 3B15 S1, Methods of Analysis for Business Operations
February 17, 2015
Abstract
The aim of this research papers is to illustrate a linkage between project strategies to the overall
strategy of the business. Unfortunately, there has been limited research, frameworks and matrixes
performed in this area to be used for any concrete decision making. Currently, organizations do not
comprehend the risks they are taking by not linking their project strategy and management strategy
with organizational goals. Further, the way an organization perceive the project s strategy and
management effects the overall execution. Thus, this paper sheds light on two main ... Show more

Project s Value Understanding
Basically, it is not enough for manager to only have a good grasp of strategic value for the project
execution, there have been studies illustrating that projects should use their own strategy so that its
execution (Arnaboldi et al.2004; Anderson and Merna, 2001) is independent and is not restricted by
organizational goals. However, there are instances where some innovative projects are essential for the
progression of the organization. Further, these projects require autonomy with respect to the
execution. In addition, there are conditions where accurate dynamics for these projects are essential
while assessing the implementation phase with the overall organizational strategy.
Portfolio Management: Effective Tracking
The second major process that is heavily examined in projects is portfolio management. This is an
essential area to be observed by managers because projects in countless organizations are performed in
an ad hoc manner. Further, managers often select various processes in an informal decision making
process as a result of some internal requirements.
Furthermore, this informal initiation of the project may also affect the execution requirements and
priorities are also taken into consideration in a very informal way by the organization. This leads to
altering the priorities of resources which might negatively impact the execution of

Say No to Animal Testing
I. Every year, over 100 million animals sit in U.S laboratories waiting to be burned, crippled, poisoned
and abused ( 11 Facts about Animal Testing par.1).
a. Animals deserve the same security and wellbeing as humans and therefore should not be subjected
to that kind of neglect and abuse.
b. Animals that are a part of some kind of new medication research rarely make it out alive. In fact,
92% of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals fail in human clinical trials because
they are too dangerous or don t work ( 11 Facts about Animal Testing par. 2), only substantiating the
point that animals will not react to medications the same way that humans will.

In 1992, 20 million were used. The decline may be due to the efforts of animal rights groups ( Animal
Testing par. 6). ii. It is great the animal activist were able to make such a big impact on the number of
animal used in animal testing in the past; and if that big of an impact could be made today, nearly
twice the number of animal lived that were saved in the past would be saved today.
b. Although Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to animals started forming long ago, it wasn t until
many years later that certain legislation laws were passed setting standards for the care of animals in
laboratories.
i. In 1824, Jeremy Bentham founded the first humane society; the RSPCA, also known as the Royal
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals, or the ASPCA, was not formed until 1866 ( Animal Testing par. 15). In 1876, England
passed the Cruelty to Animals Act which controlled the use of animals in certain scientific
experiments. The Animal Welfare Act was not passed in the U.S. until 1966. This act set minimum
standards for the care of animals in laboratories and required government run and private labs to
submit to random inspections by the USDA ( Animal Testing par. 17). ii. It is great that an animal
welfare act was passed, but that does not necessarily mean that it is strongly enforced. The Animal
Welfare act

Cognitive Dissonance
Leon Festinger and James M. Carlsmith (1959) were interested in the cognitive dissonance, which can
influence a person decision to choose one action or thought over another. The researchers were also
interested in forced compliance, where authority can force individuals to say or act in a way that is
conflicting to one s own private opinion, whereas, the individual s attitude is altered through
persuasion and authority. Force was operationally defined as the amount of reward offered for lying
and cognitive dissonance experienced from the participant s rated enjoyment of the tasks. Therefore,
the researchers investigated if cognitive dissonance could be created through forced compliance
behavior. Furthermore, Festinger and Carlsmith hypothesized ... Show more content on

Bill Clinton Moral Leadership
For many years there have been people who obtain a high leadership billet, but are not worthy of it.
These leaders who are not worthy of it tend to lack moral standing and responsibility. Mortals are a
person s standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable. Although many
people believe that it is acceptable for leaders and politicians to have moral deficiencies, it is
imperative to be of the highest moral standing to be successful.
Let s take our Forty Second President Mr. Bill Clinton for example of poor self knowledge on what s
acceptable and not acceptable when in a leadership position. Certainly he lacked moral standing
because he was impeached from his presidency with two charges, perjury and obstruction

Drafting A Leadership Philosophy
1 Why should you have a leadership philosophy?
Leadership philosophy has a foundational element to it. The different components included create a
strong basis on which to build on and take your leadership forward. You are better equipped to lead
and to succeed in your leadership with a leadership philosophy due to three core benefits: character,
consistency and collaboration.
Character
Drafting a leadership philosophy will provide clarity and focus to your character. Character matters
because it influences your everyday decision making and communication with other people. Without a
proper understanding of your character and the traits you truly value, you are more likely to fall into
bad habits and to let emotions control you. By making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before providing you with the format for your written philosophy, we are going to explain why having
a published leadership philosophy matters. As you ll see in the next section a written leadership
philosophy statement can be useful in getting to the heart of your true values and ideas. By having a
written statement, you are sure to have a reminder of the ideals you want to be pushing towards. But it
can be more beneficial to have the leadership philosophy published or at least shared with a few
people because it increases your accountability. If you are the only one aware of your leadership
principles, you don t need to worry about others calling you out on doing something against your
values since no one has knowledge of them. On the other hand, if you are loosing your sense of
direction, a person who has seen your leadership philosophy statement can nudge you back in the right
direction. The objectives you want to deliver and the values you want to keep at the heart of your
leadership will be known. Even the knowledge that people have access to your statement or your
closest friends or mentors know them can be enough to keep you focused on following your

Fall Of Communism Essay
v The fall of communism in Poland also inspired the fall of communism throughout Eastern Europe in
1989, in a period sometimes referred to as the Autumn of Nations (a play on the Springtime of Nations
used to describe the 1848 revolutions). Lech Walesa stated in an interview that he and the Poles lost
many battles along the way, but [they] peacefully won the war (qtd. in Morris). A similar, drawn out
process to defeat communism occurred in other Eastern Bloc countries around this time. Pope John
Paul II once said the following: Freedom is not just something to have and to use, it is something to be
fought for. One must use freedom to build with it personal life as well as the life of the nation (qtd. in
Walesa). Other nations in Eastern Europe followed this path, similar to Poland s, of fighting for
freedom (Walesa). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Theme Of Loneliness
In A Clean, Well Lighted Place, by Hemingway and Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield what they both
have in common is the literary device theme loneliness. Theme is the general idea or insight revealed
in a narrative. These two stories are also different from the style of writing these two authors wrote
how to tell their stories.
Loneliness is introduced in the beginning of the short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place by
Hemingway. The deaf old man, with no wife and only a niece to care for him, is noticeably lonely. The
younger waiter, upset that the old man won t go home, shows himself and the old man in opposites:
He s lonely. I m not lonely. I have a wife waiting in bed for me (Ernest Hemingway pg. 373)

The old people sat on the bench, sill as statues. Never mind, there was always the crows to watch.
(Mansfield pg. 563) She sees all of the people, in their separate interactions, as being part of a stage
production. She thinks of the people in the stands, including herself, not as audience members but as
performers too. She thinks of herself as being a part of the production that if she were missing
someone she would notice. She tells the old man who cares little for her presence that I have been an
actress for a long time. (Mansfield pg. 564)
These two stories contrast the way they were written in A Clean, Well Lighted Place the author
Hemingway writes the story mostly in dialogue. The story is mostly the young waiter and older waiter
talking to each other about the old man. Last week he tried to commit suicide (Ernest Hemingway pg.
372) We only learn about the old man through conversation between the waiters.
The way Katherine Mansfield wrote Miss Brill she wrote a lot of details where you can imagine Miss
Brill enjoying her fur. She had taken it out of it s box that afternoon, shaken out the moth powder,
given it a good brush and rubbed the life back into the dim little eye. (Katherine Mansfield pg. 562) It
bought her back to life. But today she passed the baker s boy, climbed the stairs, went into the little
dark room her room like a cupboard and sat down on the red eiderdown bed. (Katherine Mansfield pg.
565) She also uses a lot of

Free Will In C. S. Lewis Mere Christianity
I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him...
(Lewis 52). In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis goes in to detail and discusses very controversial topic.
He answers one of the most disputed questions of all time: Who was Jesus? While many believe in His
existence, and the fact that He was who He said He was, some believe that he was just a great prophet
and teacher or that he never in fact existed. Lewis gives evidence of Christ being who He said he was,
and is today, by exposing flaws found in beliefs and theories contrary to the Bible. Simply mentioning
the name of Jesus can cause quite a commotion. It is quite mind boggling to see one man s name strike
a nerve somewhere so deep inside of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When humans were created, He instilled inside of us the concept of free will. In layman s terms, we
have been given the ability to choose. One can choose to believe in God, or in gods, or in nothing at
all. This free will is what ultimately allows us to have a relationship with God. Without free will, why
does God give us the opportunity to live and to choose Him?
God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go wrong or right. Some
people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong, but I
can t. If a thing is free to be good it s also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible.
Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the
only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. (Lewis 47, 48) Whether you
believe Christ is a liar, a lunatic or Lord, you cannot say he was only a great moral teacher. If you
believe He is a liar, practice your free will and believe as you wish. If you believe He is a lunatic,
practice your free will and believe in the same manner. If you believe He is Lord, practice your free
will and believe it. But do not say He did not exist, or that He was just a great, moral teacher. I have
found otherwise. I know your deeds that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot.
So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. (Revelation

Overview of Cash Flow Management
Cash Flow Management
Poor cash management is the most frequent stumbling block that causes business failure (Anon.,
2013). Good cash management comes from knowing when, where, and how cash needs will occur.
Knowing the best sources for cash is vital to being prepared to meet needs as they arise. This requires
good relationships with bankers and creditors. Developing and maintaining cash flow projections
helps to understand how cash is generated and used in a business. Without understanding the cash
flow of a business, the business is doomed for failure.
Mr. Morello s projected cash flow for January 2012 to June 2012 shows negative cash flows for
January and May, with January $42,560 and May $1,190 in the negative. The majority of the January
expenses come from the needs of the contract. The May loss can be covered with profits from
February, March, and April, but January becomes a major problem. The projected budget shows
enough in profits to obtain a loan to cover the loss, overdraft, and still have some working capital for
expenses, such as fuel or maintenance for vehicles that is not in the projected budget. Mr. Morello
would need to obtain a loan for at least $50,000. Because accounts receivable can sometimes be
unpredictable, it would be wiser to consider the loan for $60,000 to ensure that the business needs are
met in a timely manner.
In efforts to reduce the interest expense from a loan, community banks and the Small Business
Administration offer lower interest

Questions On Attachment Theory And Attachment Parenting
Introduction
People can and do get the [attachment] theory confused with attachment parenting. The result of this
may be that some parents, thinking that attachment parenting is too consuming and also because
western society has a need for independence and separation, may then look for alternative methods
that do not involve any form of attachment methods . The purpose of researching these theories is to
gather information about attachment theory for those involved to make informed decisions that do not
involve a specific parenting philosophy that may not suit their family s needs.
Attachment is the method through which people acquire specific positive and close emotional bonds
with others. In mature relationships, people may be equal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freud believed that infants develop maternal relationships because mothers feed them and satisfy their
hunger. However, animal studies have provided evidence that feeding does not necessarily explain the
attachment. In fact, experiments have found that infant rhesus monkeys raised in an isolated
environment preferred the contact with a comfortable cloth covered surrogate mother, even while
feeding from the nourishing wire surrogate mother, demonstrating that the basis for attachment
relationships does not reside solely in feeding. These experiments also found that the ones raised by
simulated mothers were scared when placed alone in foreign situations.
Another expert, Erik Erikson, proposed an eight stage psychosocial development process. In his
theory, each stage involves a task that must be completed if infants are to successfully move to the
next stage. The initial stage of Trust versus mistrust in psychosocial development arises in the first
year of life. During this stage infants need to develop a sense of trust in themselves and in the world
around them. The infant depends on the parents, with an emphasis on the mother, for nourishment.
Their relative interpretation of world and society stems from the parent child interaction. If the parents
expose the child to consistency, and steady affection, the child s perception will be that of trust.
However, if parents fail to provide a safe environment that meets

Why Was Henry A Hero
One main reason Henry stayed for the first battle was because he had expectations of grandeur. Henry
naively thought that battles of war would be glorious. He believed he would prove himself a hero. The
reason Henry fought in the first battle is because he had this belief in his heart.
Once the actual guns and cannons were being fired in the first battle, Henry was in shock. He was so
scared, but he kept fighting because that s what he was supposed to do. In his mind, this was not how
he imagined war at all. Henry began to realize just how wrong he was.

Gsk 3 Regulates Dna Methylation
Gsk 3 Regulates DNA Methylation
Gsk 3 activity has been observed to regulate DNA methylation through altered expression of DNA
methyltransferase Dnmt3a2. This was confirmed by knocking out both Gsk 3 isoforms (Gsk 3 DKO)
in mouse ESCs, resulting in the reduction of DNA methylation and altered gene expression (Meredith
et al., 2015; Popkie et al., 2010). Lithium mimics this reduced Gsk 3 activity in two ways: direct
inhibition and indirect inhibition by increasing inhibitory phosphorylation of Gsk 3 (Jope, 2003).
These two effects work in synergy to influence Gsk 3 regulated functions. Interestingly, lithium is
commonly used as a mood stabilizer treatment for patients with bipolar disorder (BPD) (Phiel, 2001).
The exact mechanism behind how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Methyl seq was performed on genomic DNA isolated from lymphoblasts, providing DNA methylation
patterns of the entire genome for each individual. Several loci displayed hypermethylation in both
BPD patients compared to their unaffected siblings. When the lymphoblast cells were treated with a
therapeutic dose of lithium (1mM), results showed hypomethylation at several loci. Among these, one
locus had been hypermethylated in the BPD cells. This differentially methylated locus was where the
novel lncRNA, LINC00486, was located. Sequencing data has indicated LINC00486 is found in
human chromosome 2 and is flanked by genes TTC27 and LTBP1. A mouse homolog has yet to be
discovered. Three distinct RNAs are predicted to be transcribed from the LINC00486 locus, each of
different lengths and containing different exons.
Non Coding RNA Overview
Recent advantages in genome wide analyses have revealed that roughly 90% of the human genome is
transcribed, yet less than 3% of the genome consists of protein coding genes (Wu et al., 2013). The
remaining genes are transcribed as noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), which resemble mRNA in length and
splicing structures yet do not encode any proteins (Wu et al., 2013). It has been debated whether all of
the ncRNA transcripts are functional due to their low expression levels and low evolutionary
conservation. However, many functional ncRNA have

himself/herself into. A person must be prepared and always have enough supplies. Chris barely took
anything into the wild and it might have been because he was only going to stay for one hundred days.
Even if it is just a short amount of time, people should always have enough knowledge and supplies
for what they are going to do. Another thing that could be learned from Chris s story would be to
never judge a person without getting to know them. Whenever Chris got a job, the workers would
judge him for how slow he worked, but they did not understand. Other people, when Chris was
hitchhiking, would refuse to stop because they thought he was just another hippie. The few people that
did stop and pick him up realized that Chris was actually a very smart man and he had a plan. I could
tell by the language he used that he was a real sharp fella. He wasn t what you d call a typical
hitchhiker. I m usually leery of em. I figure there s probably something wrong with a guy if he can t
even afford a bus ticket (Krakauer 159). This man did not really know Chris at first and was not going
to take him, but then he got to know him. Chris was a good man; he just seemed strange on the
surface. When it comes to Chris s story, many

for those who love a classic drive in diner. Sonic is a publicly traded company and ranks as the 10th

Sonic is already a known business with a national reputation and national advertising campaign.
Another important advantage that I think would be the most important is the support and training the
company offers their franchisees. Sonic franchisees buy into an already proven system (p.169).
Coming into an already established franchise reduces the risk of failure significantly. Advantages can
be personal and business (p.152). According to the International Franchise Association website
becoming a franchise owner allows you to go into business for yourself, but not by yourself. Buying
into a franchise like Sonic a person is getting an established and a recognized brand that already has a
customer base that could possibly take years to grow for a start up business. Sonic has proven methods
and food that people love and as long as the franchisee offers the level of quality and remain
consistent with the Sonic Brand local consumers will remain attracted to their store. Other advantages
for franchisees include important pre opening support such as site locations, design, construction,
financing, training, and a grand opening program. Lastly, franchising also offers ongoing support such
as: training national and regional advertising operating procedures, operational assistance, ongoing
supervision and management support, increased spending power, and access to bulk

Compare And Contrast Liberalism And Socialism
These past few weeks we as a class have read and discussed so many different political ideologies
including liberalism and socialism. According to John Rawls s theory of justice for a liberal society,
liberalism can be seen as the interpretation of two principles, where the goal is to make the person
who is worst of better on distributive shares and also to attempt to even out class barriers, school
system be it public or private. Rawls s starts with the idea that citizens do not deserve to be born into a
rich or a poor family, to be born naturally more or less gifted than others, to be born female or male, to
be born a member of a particular racial group All social goods are to be distributed equally, unless an
unequal distribution would be to everyone s advantage. Whereas socialism is similar where they want
everyone to be equal, to have equal amounts, and to the rid a society of a free market. Socialism s
intent is to only have those consuming producing. Any inequalities must improve everyone s situation,
and especially the situation of the worst off. Justice is like a social contract in which people come
together to choose the basic principles that will govern their society. Justice is the first virtue of social
institutions. Injustice is simply inequalities that are not to the benefit of all. The Main idea of the
theory of justice is the theory of social contract as found in say Locke, Rousseau, and Kant. There is a
guiding idea is that the principles of justice for

Lord Capulet Quotes
Even though Lord Capulet, from the play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet written by William
Shakespeare, is trying to do what he thinks is best for Juliet, Lord Capulet starts off as a loving and
caring father but slowly graduates into an ignorant and insensitive father because when confronted by
Paris, Lord Capulet tells him that Juliet is too young to marry and that in a few years, if she says yes,
then it is possible. When Tybalt dies, Capulet moves up the wedding to the upcoming Thursday
without Juliet s consent. Lord Capulet loves his daughter but does not know much about her true
thoughts or feelings. Because of his ignorance towards her feelings, Juliet starts to resent her father
and becomes a disobedient and dishonest daughter. Capulet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Capulet will go to extreme measures to do what he thinks is right for his daughter. Capulet thinks that
it is inevitable for Juliet to marry Paris and goes as far as saying I ll tell you what: get to church on
Thursday, or never look me in the face again. Don t say anything! Don t reply! Don t answer me back!
My fingers are itching! Wife, we thought we were very lucky that God gave us this only child but now
I realize that this one is one too many and we ve been cursed in having her! To blazes with her, the
worthless creature! (185). In his rant he fails to realize that this is truly not what Juliet wants and that
this is not what s best for her. The only thing in the way of Juliet marring Paris is that she secretly
loves Romeo and is waiting for the day that she reunites with him and they live happily ever after.
This rant by Lord Capulet turns Juliet against her father and shows the readers that Lord Capulet is not
the loving father he once was. Later in the play, Juliet is found dead because of Lord Capulet s
insensitivity and ignorance towards her

Intellectual Growth In Daniel Keyes s Flowers For Algernon
Charlie Gordon, narrator of the progress reports in Daniel Keyes s Flowers for Algernon, has an
intellectual growth that can be depicted as a one year old boy who becomes an extravagant 20 year old
scholar in the matter of weeks. In the beginning of the story, Charlie Gordon is a student at Beekman
College as a mentally delayed adult, accompanied by his IQ (intelligence quotient) of 68. He is then
selected to undergo an operation to artificially increase his intelligence similar to the successful
attempt on a lab mouse, Algernon. Learning new things every day, Gordon has surpassed many people
by his IQ level. This growth has gotten to the point as seen in Algernon s experiment that his cerebral
level will then deteriorate at the same rate as the increase. Once Charlie reaches that point, he has

The Sociological Explanations for Class Inequality Essay...
The Sociological Explanations for Class Inequality There is much debate in sociology about whether
class is still important. Many argue that class is no longer important as an individual s identity and life

the like, the post modernists state that class has ceased to be the prime determinant of identity and
suggest that societies are now organised around consumption rather than production, consequently

Davis and More state that this is fair as everyone finds their place in a society which offers different
levels of rewards, thus inequality is legitimate. They state that since there is value consensus on the
relative merit of certain occupations and the salaries they command, inequality does not cause
conflict, but is seen as legitimate by all and is an accepted part of society. Talcott Parsons agreed with
this and stated that inequality is inevitable, legitimate and functional for everyone. The strength of this
theory is that it allows inequality to be linked to talent which is unequally distributed. However, this
theory has many weaknesses; it assumes we all agree about the relative merit of certain occupations,
when in reality this is not true. It also assumes that there are no structural barriers in society to those
who have talent, for example, race or gender. Although this meritocratic approach has been developed
more recently by the new right , with sociologists such as Saunders arguing that inequality is a
necessary push for economic growth which in turn increases living standards, it has also been
criticised by those such as Will Hutton who argued that inequality has led to poorer economic
performance and not

A Brief Note On Dan River Coal Ash Spill
Dan River Coal Ash Spill
On Sunday, February 2, 2014 on a cold day, a water pipe exploded under a coal ash impoundment at
Duke Energy s Dan River Power Station near Eden, North Carolina. This problem caused a lot of
commotion throughout the community, and to make matters worse, Duke Energy didn t announce this
incident until a couple of days later. Duke Energy estimated that between 50,000 to 82,000 tons of
coal ash ran into Dan River, causing it to litter and pollute with masses of debris. Duke s outrageous
proposal to fix this problem is to take money out of their customers in order to pay for the damages
caused on their behalf. Even if the lower estimates are correct, that s still 140,000 tons of toxic waste
contaminating Dan River. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The unfortunate rupture of this pipe, allowed for the pond s ash coal to slither its way through the pipe
all the way into the Dan River; massive amounts of this substance leaked into the river causing it
damage to an extreme extent. Its break allowed coal ash to drain from the pond and spill into the Dan
River. (See Figure 1) The deadly components of the coal ash contains the elements such as arsenic,
selenium, boron, and many other deadly substances that contributed to the pollution of Dan River.
Even though fatal, when combined these elements are actually very useful and resourceful since they
created electricity. In 2013 this mixture of coal ash contributed to 39 percent of the energy in the
United States. Duke Energy and many other utility companies used this coal to generate electricity by
burning it and creating a cheaper and more efficient source of energy. This incident never had a back
up plan and wasn t thought out by Duke Energy s engineers; for many years, the ash was just kept in
pits underwater near the power plants. Due to the damages and negligence of Duke Energy, they now
face a multimillion dollar problem because not only do they have to make up for the spill into Dan
River, but also they have to get rid of all of their buried ash throughout every power plant they own.
For decades, that ash simply has been buried in pits near the power plants and covered with water.

Selflessness And Selflessness In The Movie The Impossible
In the movie, The Impossible, Lucas Bennett shows selflessness and bravery as he does everything to
keep his mother, Maria, alive. While Lucas and Maria walk through the debris they hear a child
crying. Maria insists on helping anyone they can so she urges Lucas to help the child. Lucas reflects
that he is brave and selfless as he rescues the helpless child. He put his life in danger to find a
complete stranger. Lucas then faces another challenge as he pushes his mother up into the tree, before
pulling himself up. He puts his life in danger in order to insure his mother s safety. Another example
of Lucas s strong personalities is shown when Lucas makes it his priority to reunite families in the
hospital. Despite knowing the chances of reuniting a family, in such a large hospital, were slim, he
showed selflessness by trying anyway and putting other s needs in front of his own. This displayed his
selfless and brave qualities.

Gentrification has its benefits to the families that are categorized as low income earners. First, through
the development of infrastructure and opening up of newer shops and outlets, jobs are created. This
thus reduces unemployment and also makes these families improve on their livelihood through income

The fees skyrocket and most of these families cannot afford it. They thus end up having children with
low levels of education. Also, due to the cultural diversity, the minority poorer people are often
criminalized thus making life harder for them (Fainstein, 2014) Gentrification improves the social
factors that determine health. Since there was the creation of newer hospitals and facilities, the
communities in Williamsburg benefited from better healthcare. On top of that improved security and
better housing structures made health better in Williamsburg. Since levels of education are also
increased by gentrification, health got a major boost. These show that health, in general, was improved
by gentrification. However, access for the more impoverished families was still an issue due to the
high charges. When the values of property rise, the original residents are affected both positively and
negatively. However, they are affected more negatively as they are forced to vacate their homes as
they can no longer afford the rent. This leads to displacement of more impoverished families. On top
of that, they are forced to spend a lot on rent alone in case they stay. This might affect their finances,
and they could end up bankrupt. Their health may deteriorate too because of depression as well as
higher charges in the hospital. However, they may get advantages such as improved housing
conditions and better security and environment.

Interrelated parts of the operating budget, capital budget and the cash budget
According to Yoder Wise, (2015), healthcare organizations are service institutions, and the largest part
of their operating budget typically is for personnel. Therefore, staffing and supply management are
areas that are affected in cost management. The knowledge of fixed cost such as rental fee, salaries,

How Does Billy Pilgrim Use Satire In Catch 22
How does one know they are right? Does one viewpoint inherently have more value than another?
Unconventional viewpoints towards war are often portrayed in classic literature from the perspective
of its soldiers. Kurt Vonnegut, in his novel Slaughterhouse Five, writes the story of Billy Pilgrim, a
WWII veteran with PTSD who lives his life stuck in time . Throughout the non chronological course
of the novel, Pilgrim questions his faith and purpose and eventually becomes trapped in his own
fantastical reality as an attempt to escape his horrific memories of the war. Yossarian, in Joseph Heller
s Catch 22, also relies on escapism to make it through his own experience in WWII. After a series of
traumatic events leads to many of his comrades dying, he runs from the war and escapes to Sweden.
His lack of faith in religion, his superiors, and purpose of the war leads to Yossarian s escape to
Sweden, a country free of American influence. Pilgrim and Yossarian s integrity and sanity is
consistently questionable, as well as their sanity during and after the war. Vonnegut and Heller both

it leads to the downfall of not only his short lived faith, but also that of a man he

Earthquake Intensities
Earthquake Intensities
Earthquakes are a marvel of geology. When faults under the surface of the earth move, the ground
moves. These earthquakes can be very mild, barely registering or they can be horrific with far
reaching consequences. Scientists have become fascinated with the study of earthquakes for centuries
but it is only in recent years that quantified data has been collected and analyzed by scientists
regarding these geologic phenomena. Before the invention of the Richter scale, less accurate means of
measuring an earthquake s intensity were used by geological scientists.
Until the early 1900s, earthquakes could only be measured after the earthquake had ended and then
only approximations could be made. The first attempt at scientifically measuring an earthquake s
intensity was performed in the middle of the nineteenth century. In Italy in 1857, the after effects of an
earthquake were quantified (Lutgen 2011, page 179). A map was created to show the comparable
damages that were found in different areas. This allowed geographers to make maps which would
show the areas of highest intensity and how intensity lessened in surrounding areas. Although this was
helpful, it only showed comparative intensities, not quantified data.
In 1902, Giuseppe Mercalli developed what was called the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale. An
American version of the Mercalli system was incorporated in 1931. This system judged intensity of

The Tower Of Babel To Jacob And Esau Reconciled
Brief Paper
Senior Seminar in Interdisciplinary Studies
Dr. Packer
Eric G. Shuping
March 31, 2015
Brief Paper From The Tower of Babel to Jacob and Esau Reconciled, we learn about honor, betrayal,
and forgiveness from the book of Genesis. From these themes we learn what applies to our everyday
life and how we are able to survive. At the start of Genesis twelve, God honors a promise that he made
to Abraham that he will behold and protect as long as he lived. Go forth from your land and your
birthplace and your father s house to the land I will show you. And I will make you a great nation and
I will bless you and make your name great, and you shall be a blessing. And I will bless those who
bless you, and those who damn you I will curse, and all the clans of the earth through you shall be
blessed. (Genesis 12: pg. 126). God s determination to honor Abraham was to bring his family and

  • 2. Lady Germanotta In a world of auto tuned music with processed lyrics and a general lack of individuality, outstanding talent is laborious to come by. However, this is not the case with Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta; most commonly known under the name Lady Gaga. Raised in a Catholic household with roots based in family, she was brought up with traditional conservative views. However, growing up in Manhattan, New York, Gaga was consistently surrounded by all forms of art. Since the young age of thirteen, Stefani began writing her own music and playing the piano. At seventeen, prior to singing, she studied at the Collaborative Arts Project 21 through New York University s Tisch School of the Arts. This did not last for long, as Stefani left school to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since a young age, she has known that she was attracted to both male and female, identifying herself as bisexual. This was an issue for her in school, as it led to bullying. However, when it currently comes to pressing sexual questions by interviewers, she answers them without faltering. While she believes everyone has the choice to disclose what information they want, Stefani Germanotta also does not think being gay or being bisexual or being sexually free is anything that should be hidden...it is who I am (Snider). Her stability with sexuality and sex in general is also evident in her body of work. In the song Love Game , she has provocative lines such as I wanna take a ride on your disco stick among other suggestive innuendos (Carman). In terms of her acting career, her recent involvement with the television series American Horror Story: Hotel has brought the media flocking. Throughout the season, Lady Gaga was shown in multiple sexually explicit scenes with both male and female counterparts. With her boldness on the topic, Stefani works to send messages to her fans that sex is an important subject to discuss. Although the air of seriousness has disappeared from the topic, she believes it s [important] for my generation, a most relevant consideration when you re growing up. Sex doesn t mean nothing; sex means so much... I hope that young women know that sex is still a big deal (Thompson). While some people would prefer to label sex as a taboo matter, the discussion of the subject by celebrities like Gaga provide the needed insensitivity and education that is often forgone. Stigmatism revolving around the topic of sexual assault leaves it a delicate subject to discuss, yet a necessary conversation. The lack of boundaries for the crime is proven with one in six women falling victim of the horrendous attack. At the age of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relationship Of Project For Business Operations Relationship of project to strategy of the business Surrena Hooks MSL 5080 13D 3B15 S1, Methods of Analysis for Business Operations February 17, 2015 Abstract The aim of this research papers is to illustrate a linkage between project strategies to the overall strategy of the business. Unfortunately, there has been limited research, frameworks and matrixes performed in this area to be used for any concrete decision making. Currently, organizations do not comprehend the risks they are taking by not linking their project strategy and management strategy with organizational goals. Further, the way an organization perceive the project s strategy and management effects the overall execution. Thus, this paper sheds light on two main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Project s Value Understanding Basically, it is not enough for manager to only have a good grasp of strategic value for the project execution, there have been studies illustrating that projects should use their own strategy so that its execution (Arnaboldi et al.2004; Anderson and Merna, 2001) is independent and is not restricted by organizational goals. However, there are instances where some innovative projects are essential for the progression of the organization. Further, these projects require autonomy with respect to the execution. In addition, there are conditions where accurate dynamics for these projects are essential while assessing the implementation phase with the overall organizational strategy. Portfolio Management: Effective Tracking The second major process that is heavily examined in projects is portfolio management. This is an essential area to be observed by managers because projects in countless organizations are performed in an ad hoc manner. Further, managers often select various processes in an informal decision making process as a result of some internal requirements. Furthermore, this informal initiation of the project may also affect the execution requirements and priorities are also taken into consideration in a very informal way by the organization. This leads to altering the priorities of resources which might negatively impact the execution of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fall Of Communism Essay v The fall of communism in Poland also inspired the fall of communism throughout Eastern Europe in 1989, in a period sometimes referred to as the Autumn of Nations (a play on the Springtime of Nations used to describe the 1848 revolutions). Lech Walesa stated in an interview that he and the Poles lost many battles along the way, but [they] peacefully won the war (qtd. in Morris). A similar, drawn out process to defeat communism occurred in other Eastern Bloc countries around this time. Pope John Paul II once said the following: Freedom is not just something to have and to use, it is something to be fought for. The way Katherine Mansfield wrote Miss Brill she wrote a lot of details where you can imagine Miss Brill enjoying her fur. • 12. Free Will In C. S. Lewis Mere Christianity I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him... (Lewis 52). In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis goes in to detail and discusses very controversial topic. He answers one of the most disputed questions of all time: Who was Jesus? While many believe in His existence, and the fact that He was who He said He was, some believe that he was just a great prophet and teacher or that he never in fact existed. Lewis gives evidence of Christ being who He said he was, and is today, by exposing flaws found in beliefs and theories contrary to the Bible. Simply mentioning the name of Jesus can cause quite a commotion. It is quite mind boggling to see one man s name strike a nerve somewhere so deep inside of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When humans were created, He instilled inside of us the concept of free will. In layman s terms, we have been given the ability to choose. One can choose to believe in God, or in gods, or in nothing at all. This free will is what ultimately allows us to have a relationship with God. Without free will, why does God give us the opportunity to live and to choose Him? God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong, but I can t. If a thing is free to be good it s also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible. Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. (Lewis 47, 48) Whether you believe Christ is a liar, a lunatic or Lord, you cannot say he was only a great moral teacher. If you believe He is a liar, practice your free will and believe as you wish. If you believe He is a lunatic, practice your free will and believe in the same manner. If you believe He is Lord, practice your free will and believe it. But do not say He did not exist, or that He was just a great, moral teacher. I have found otherwise. I know your deeds that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. • 13. Overview of Cash Flow Management Cash Flow Management Poor cash management is the most frequent stumbling block that causes business failure (Anon., 2013). Good cash management comes from knowing when, where, and how cash needs will occur. Knowing the best sources for cash is vital to being prepared to meet needs as they arise. This requires good relationships with bankers and creditors. Developing and maintaining cash flow projections helps to understand how cash is generated and used in a business. Without understanding the cash flow of a business, the business is doomed for failure. Mr. Morello s projected cash flow for January 2012 to June 2012 shows negative cash flows for January and May, with January $42,560 and May $1,190 in the negative. The majority of the January expenses come from the needs of the contract. The May loss can be covered with profits from February, March, and April, but January becomes a major problem. The projected budget shows enough in profits to obtain a loan to cover the loss, overdraft, and still have some working capital for expenses, such as fuel or maintenance for vehicles that is not in the projected budget. Mr. Morello would need to obtain a loan for at least $50,000. Because accounts receivable can sometimes be unpredictable, it would be wiser to consider the loan for $60,000 to ensure that the business needs are met in a timely manner. In efforts to reduce the interest expense from a loan, community banks and the Small Business Administration offer lower interest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The result of this may be that some parents, thinking that attachment parenting is too consuming and also because western society has a need for independence and separation, may then look for alternative methods that do not involve any form of attachment methods . The purpose of researching these theories is to gather information about attachment theory for those involved to make informed decisions that do not involve a specific parenting philosophy that may not suit their family s needs. Attachment is the method through which people acquire specific positive and close emotional bonds with others. In mature relationships, people may be equal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freud believed that infants develop maternal relationships because mothers feed them and satisfy their hunger. However, animal studies have provided evidence that feeding does not necessarily explain the attachment. In fact, experiments have found that infant rhesus monkeys raised in an isolated environment preferred the contact with a comfortable cloth covered surrogate mother, even while feeding from the nourishing wire surrogate mother, demonstrating that the basis for attachment relationships does not reside solely in feeding. These experiments also found that the ones raised by simulated mothers were scared when placed alone in foreign situations. Another expert, Erik Erikson, proposed an eight stage psychosocial development process. In his theory, each stage involves a task that must be completed if infants are to successfully move to the next stage. The initial stage of Trust versus mistrust in psychosocial development arises in the first year of life. During this stage infants need to develop a sense of trust in themselves and in the world around them. The infant depends on the parents, with an emphasis on the mother, for nourishment. Their relative interpretation of world and society stems from the parent child interaction. If the parents expose the child to consistency, and steady affection, the child s perception will be that of trust. However, if parents fail to provide a safe environment that meets ... This was confirmed by knocking out both Gsk 3 isoforms (Gsk 3 DKO) in mouse ESCs, resulting in the reduction of DNA methylation and altered gene expression (Meredith et al., 2015; Popkie et al., 2010). Lithium mimics this reduced Gsk 3 activity in two ways: direct inhibition and indirect inhibition by increasing inhibitory phosphorylation of Gsk 3 (Jope, 2003). These two effects work in synergy to influence Gsk 3 regulated functions. Interestingly, lithium is commonly used as a mood stabilizer treatment for patients with bipolar disorder (BPD) (Phiel, 2001). The exact mechanism behind how ... Several loci displayed hypermethylation in both BPD patients compared to their unaffected siblings. When the lymphoblast cells were treated with a therapeutic dose of lithium (1mM), results showed hypomethylation at several loci. Among these, one locus had been hypermethylated in the BPD cells. This differentially methylated locus was where the novel lncRNA, LINC00486, was located. Sequencing data has indicated LINC00486 is found in human chromosome 2 and is flanked by genes TTC27 and LTBP1. A mouse homolog has yet to be discovered. Three distinct RNAs are predicted to be transcribed from the LINC00486 locus, each of different lengths and containing different exons. Non Coding RNA Overview Recent advantages in genome wide analyses have revealed that roughly 90% of the human genome is transcribed, yet less than 3% of the genome consists of protein coding genes (Wu et al., 2013). The remaining genes are transcribed as noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), which resemble mRNA in length and splicing structures yet do not encode any proteins (Wu et al., 2013). It has been debated whether all of the ncRNA transcripts are functional due to their low expression levels and low evolutionary conservation. However, many functional ncRNA have ... Talcott Parsons agreed with this and stated that inequality is inevitable, legitimate and functional for everyone. The strength of this theory is that it allows inequality to be linked to talent which is unequally distributed. However, this theory has many weaknesses; it assumes we all agree about the relative merit of certain occupations, when in reality this is not true. It also assumes that there are no structural barriers in society to those who have talent, for example, race or gender. They thus end up having children with low levels of education. Also, due to the cultural diversity, the minority poorer people are often criminalized thus making life harder for them (Fainstein, 2014) Gentrification improves the social factors that determine health. Since there was the creation of newer hospitals and facilities, the communities in Williamsburg benefited from better healthcare. On top of that improved security and better housing structures made health better in Williamsburg. Since levels of education are also increased by gentrification, health got a major boost. These show that health, in general, was improved by gentrification. However, access for the more impoverished families was still an issue due to the high charges. When the values of property rise, the original residents are affected both positively and negatively. However, they are affected more negatively as they are forced to vacate their homes as they can no longer afford the rent. This leads to displacement of more impoverished families. On top of that, they are forced to spend a lot on rent alone in case they stay. This might affect their finances, and they could end up bankrupt. Their health may deteriorate too because of depression as well as higher charges in the hospital. • 37. How Does Billy Pilgrim Use Satire In Catch 22 How does one know they are right? Does one viewpoint inherently have more value than another? Unconventional viewpoints towards war are often portrayed in classic literature from the perspective of its soldiers. Kurt Vonnegut, in his novel Slaughterhouse Five, writes the story of Billy Pilgrim, a WWII veteran with PTSD who lives his life stuck in time . Throughout the non chronological course of the novel, Pilgrim questions his faith and purpose and eventually becomes trapped in his own fantastical reality as an attempt to escape his horrific memories of the war. Yossarian, in Joseph Heller s Catch 22, also relies on escapism to make it through his own experience in WWII. After a series of traumatic events leads to many of his comrades dying, he runs from the war and escapes to Sweden. His lack of faith in religion, his superiors, and purpose of the war leads to Yossarian s escape to Sweden, a country free of American influence. Pilgrim and Yossarian s integrity and sanity is consistently questionable, as well as their sanity during and after the war. Vonnegut and Heller both use satirical means to question the effects of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mordecai and Daniel reminded me of Joseph because all three of them had dreams which could be interpreted as to what will happen in their future. Joseph as well as Esther, Mordecai, and Daniel all rose to a position of power in a foreign government. Joseph was his father Jacob s favorite son, just as Ahasuerus loved Esther more than all of the other women who wanted to be Queen. Daniel also was the favorite of King Baltassar. • 40. Earthquake Intensities Earthquake Intensities Earthquakes are a marvel of geology. When faults under the surface of the earth move, the ground moves. These earthquakes can be very mild, barely registering or they can be horrific with far reaching consequences. Scientists have become fascinated with the study of earthquakes for centuries but it is only in recent years that quantified data has been collected and analyzed by scientists regarding these geologic phenomena. Before the invention of the Richter scale, less accurate means of measuring an earthquake s intensity were used by geological scientists. Until the early 1900s, earthquakes could only be measured after the earthquake had ended and then only approximations could be made. The first attempt at scientifically measuring an earthquake s intensity was performed in the middle of the nineteenth century. In Italy in 1857, the after effects of an earthquake were quantified (Lutgen 2011, page 179). A map was created to show the comparable damages that were found in different areas. This allowed geographers to make maps which would show the areas of highest intensity and how intensity lessened in surrounding areas. Although this was helpful, it only showed comparative intensities, not quantified data. In 1902, Giuseppe Mercalli developed what was called the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale. An American version of the Mercalli system was incorporated in 1931. This system judged intensity of earthquakes based upon the ways California ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shuping March 31, 2015 Brief Paper From The Tower of Babel to Jacob and Esau Reconciled, we learn about honor, betrayal, and forgiveness from the book of Genesis. From these themes we learn what applies to our everyday life and how we are able to survive. At the start of Genesis twelve, God honors a promise that he made to Abraham that he will behold and protect as long as he lived. Go forth from your land and your birthplace and your father s house to the land I will show you. And I will make you a great nation and I will bless you and make your name great, and you shall be a blessing. And I will bless those who bless you, and those who damn you I will curse, and all the clans of the earth through you shall be blessed. (Genesis 12: pg. 126). God s determination to honor Abraham was to bring his family and wife back to the birthplace of his father s, where Abraham s name will be blessed and in greatness to people who come and honor him. God placed Abraham to be a father of all nations to kings that will come honor Abraham for his wisdom that he bestows upon them, and to give his seed the land of Canaan and resurrected an altar before him. God states to Abraham, As for you, you shall keep My commandment, you and your seed after you through their generations. (Genesis 17: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 127).
