Suisn Bay Environmental Impacts
What are the environmental impacts if the Suisun Bay Ghost Fleet? Well first we must split the topic
into four sections. First we must know what it is.The Suisun Bay ghost fleet are a group of toxic ships
near Benicia in the waters of the San Francisco Bay and Delta Estuary. They have been polluting the
waters since they have been abandon which adds up to decades. Many of the ships in the ghost fleet
are obsolete ships that were decommissioned and placed in storage in Suisun Bay after World War II
and the Korean War with the idea that they could be reactivated for wartime use (San Francisco
Baykeeper). At its high point, nearly 100 ships floated off the Benicia shoreline. It was displayed in

The Unreasonable Fear of Wolves in Never Cry Wolf by...
The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of
the unknown ― H.P. Lovecraft. Fear drives mankind to hate what he cannot comprehend. With this
irrational fear mankind is controlled and set on a path of destruction and chaos. In the autobiography
Never Cry Wolf written by Farley Mowat, the main character (Farley Mowat), journeys to the
Canadian tundra to study the much feared wolf. There he discovers the fear brought upon by men, and
how it can result horribly for the wolves. The human race was so frightened by the unknown species
that they began to blame the wolves for cold slaughters, portrayed them as vicious killers, and because
of the fear of the unknown tried to exterminate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Trappers understand that no one understands the wolves so they see it fit to make them the ones to
take the blame. Mankind needs to start to realize that it is there own fear that drives humans to blame
the wolves for their own problems.
Without the proper knowledge needed to understand how the wolf works, the creature is inaccurately
shown as a wild, vicious killer. As Mowat progresses through his research he learns about the wolves
hunting abilities and begins to acquire new information and states, I could hardly believe that the all
powerful and intelligent wolf would limit his predation on the caribou herds to culling the sick and
infirm when he could presumably, take his choice of the fattest and most succulent individuals
(Mowat 126). The way the government and people portray wolves as mindless killers is not only false,
but it is far from the truth. Wolves are instead intelligent creatures that have the ability to choose and
pick the right kill. Also, as Mowat researches their eating habits he finds that the wolves of Wolf
House Bay, and, by inference at least, all the Barren Land wolves who were raising families outside
the summer caribou range, were living largely, on mice (Mowat 107). During the summer the wolves
weren t even that cause of the deaths of caribou. Instead they found new resources to live off of when
the caribou leave so they can continue to survive. This information is an exact contrast to the

The standard textbook model of consumer is an outstanding example of the neoclassical paradigm in

All The Years Of Her Life Essay
1. Write an essay in which you examine the different kinds of conflict present in any of the stories
studied thus far. How does the conflict(s) affect the theme of the story? Conflict and Its Influence on
the Themes in All the Years of her Life The idea of Conflict is an extremely complex one and is
vividly evident in the short story All the years of her life by Morley Callaghan. It is important to
define the term Conflict , as defined by the Oxford Dictionary Be incompatible or at a variance; clash
( Conflict Definition of Conflict in English | Oxford Dictionaries ). While the story All the years of her
Life discusses the various conflicts the protagonist faces in her life and the lives of those around her. It

This begins first that she assumes the role of a male figure in the absence of her husband in the life of
her son I m going to make myself a cup of tea. Mind, now, not a word about tonight to your father.
(Callaghan 5). This conflict that was internal was due to the absence of her husband. Moreover, Mrs.
Higgins was conflicted from all the decisions her children has been making from Alfred stealing to
when Alfred s young sister had kept repeating doggedly that she was getting married (Callaghan 6).
Mrs. Higgins has a breakdown as Alfred describes her Her face as she sat there was a frightened
broken face utterly unlike the face of the woman who had been so assured a little while ago
(Callaghan 5). The realization the protagonist had was that she was conflicted with all the wrong
choices she made and the people around her had made, her broken spirit symbolizes that she may have
made the wrong decision earlier. The theme of realization and resolution is again developed from the
conflict that the protagonist had faced in her life, the realization she has after dealing with all her
conflicts as she reflects on the table. The realization Alfred has when he sees the conflict that his
mother has gone through, he finally matures and understands the sacrifice of his

The Affects Of The Alternative Source Of Alternative Sources
The Affects of the Use of Alternative Sources
Miguel Pereira
Gwynedd Mercy University
Abstract Alternative sources are often published as nuclear, solar, wind, and also hydroelectric energy.
These types of energy are given to us in the United States and the world to help us live a better and
healthier life. Alternative energy is much cleaner and also more efficient than the fossil fuel energy
that we use now. These types of energies can provide a much higher impact towards environment,
economy, and society. As people we need to find out how we can use these energies to benefit us and
also the planet. Solar Energy/Power Solar energy/power is energy created by the sun; energy that is

If designed correctly, buildings could capture the sun s heat in the winter and possibly minimize it in
the summer, while using the daylight year round. The designs for these buildings are in such a way
that utilizes passive solar energy a resource that can be tapped without mechanical means to help heat,
cool, or light up a building (Union of Concerned Scientists). Other than using design features to
maximize the use of the sun, some buildings have systems that actively gather and store solar energy.
Solar collectors, for example, sit on top of buildings to collect solar energy for space heating, water
heating, and space cooling (Union of Concerned Scientists). They are mostly designed as pipes in a
box carry liquids that transfer the heat from the box into the buildings. They are usually painted black
on the inside and are covered by glass. Solar collectors like desiccant evaporators are used to pull
moisture out of the air. Solar collectors were popular in the early 1980s, in the aftermath of the energy
crisis (Union of Concerned Scientists). In the 19484, for example, 16 million square feet of collectors
were sold in the United States, but when fossil fuel prices dropped and tax credits expired in the mid
1980s, demand for solar collectors plummeted (Union of Concerned Scientists). The future of solar
energy technology is poised for significant growth in the 21st century (Union of Concerned
Scientists). It has been said that more

The Low Country Healthy Start Program
The Low Country Healthy Start program was designed to eliminate disparities in perinatal health,
improve birth outcomes, and quality of life in African American women and infants living in
Allendale, Bamberg, Hampton, and Orangeburg counties. This process evaluation sought to determine
whether the services provided by LCHS were effective in changing the birth outcomes associated with
chronic disease in African American women. Data collected from the initial risk screening and
assessment survey along with attendance data from services provided by LCHS was utilized. Case
summaries and frequencies were ran on all data linked with chronic disease to determine the risk
factors, recognize who was at risk, and what services were provided. Findings suggest that Asthma
was the most common chronic disease amongst its participants with smoking tobacco, poor coping
skills, negative feelings, and inadequate housing being the risk factors associated with asthma. The
services provided by LCHS were found to be insufficient in reaching participants with chronic
disease. The program in general proves to be useful and beneficial in addressing the major issues
associated with low birthweight infants, however the data collected for this particular study is all self
reported which leaves gaps and unanswered questions due to inconsistency in the data received.

Why Zoos Should Not Be Used
By the basic definition, something is rare when it either does not occur often or it is not found in large
numbers which adds to its interest and value. The rarity of an object can be argued by different groups
of people. This causes debates about what should be considered rare and to what degree of rarity an
object is. If said object is classified as rare, what should be done with that object or idea and how, if at
all, should it be preserved. In this essay, I am going to question the idea of rarity and show why rarity
should not be used as a way to regulate environments. One view of rarity comes from the realists; they
believe ... an object is unique within a purview: given a certain boundary, there exists no other object
like it. This idea makes defining something as rare only specific to the boundary set. So, if something
is rare in America it may not be as rare, if rare at all, in Europe. This could have complications when
considering different aspects of nature and how to define those aspects as rare. For example, to
Americans the Niagara Falls is a rare phenomenon and should be maintained due to their rarity,
however in other parts of the world there are falls just as good, if not better than the Niagara Falls. An
example of this would be the Victoria Falls in Africa; this is also a rare phenomenon but is it equally
as rare as the Niagara Falls? When trying to regulate environments, rarity always comes into play as it
pertains to preservation. The rarer something

International Trade Agreement And Globalization
TJ Ifaturoti BUSN 225 Professor Mavubi October 26, 2015 The Unites States of America has long
been a country with international trade agreements, such as with: China, Guatemala, Mexico, Canada,
and many other countries. The trade agreements have been made due to a few factors; embargos, the
cost of manufacturing being less costly in foreign countries, treaties which benefit both trading parties
by the elimination of tariffs and other various barriers, increased competition, and reduced import
costs. Although there seem to be very few factors listed, there are in actuality many more factors
which go into a trade agreement. A prime example of a trade agreement and globalization is the North
American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which consists of The United States of America, Canada,
and Mexico. The international market is opened up when services, capital, and goods cross America s
borders. Which also opens up opportunities for Americans as well as other foreigners to take
advantage of the market place. Buyers are able to take advantage of the least expensive services and
goods the market has to offer, as well as the ability to choose the best investments opportunities.

What is communication? We often define communication as the act of talking to one another via
different platforms, be it face to face, via emails or even through videos. Through this act, we are
trying to pass a message or relate something to the intended audience. We face this every day in our
lives, even if we do not leave the house and talk to anyone. For example, even reading a cooking
recipe is counted as a form of communication. It is a form of communication between the reader and
the writer. The reader is trying to comprehend and follow the steps given by the writer whereas the

Many people would know of this unfortunate incident, but not many would know that it was probably
the cause of an ineffective communication. The incident goes as follows, In July of 1945, the allied
leaders had a meeting in Potsdam and they submitted a stiffly worded declaration of surrender terms
to the Japanese. These terms had included a statement to the effect that any negative answer would
invite prompt and utter destruction. The allied leaders (Harry S Truman, Winston Churchill and Stalin)
also stated that they hoped that Japan would agree to surrender unconditionally and prevent
devastation of the Japanese homeland and that they patiently awaited Japan s answer. This was known
as the Potsdam Declaration. The Japanese Premier at that time, Kantaro Suzuki answered using the
Japanese word mokusatsu , which is derived from the word for silence . Yet, this word had a second
meaning which also means not worthy of comment . In the heat of the moment, the meaning was
thought to be the second one, which may be true as the Japanese were very prideful, as we can see

The Is The Thing With Feathers
The first line introduces the extended metaphor saying, Hope is the thing with feathers. The metaphor
in the first line leads us to question, what is hope? In the first line Dickinson is suggesting that hope is
more than just a feeling it is something physical, in this case, a bird. Each part of the bird has meaning
in this poem whether it be its actions its or its physical appearance. Hope relates to a bird a lot more
than one would think. Feathers are what makes a bird fly, they protect the bird and keep it safe. If a
wing is broken, then the bird is most likely going to die because it cannot fly anywhere. If a person is
broken it means that they have no hope and if there is no hope inside someone s soul, then are they
really living? Next Dickinson says, That perches in the soul . Here it is implied that the bird is
something emotional, something we all have inside of us. Perches makes you think of a bird on a
branch or on an object. The bird is resting on a perch in our soul, the bird is hope. Hope is held within
our soul and that is where it stays forever. A perch can be thought of as a home for the bird. The soul is
a home for hope. It is within our soul that we find our desire and positive thinking. The third and
fourth line says, And sings the tune without the words, And never stops at all . In this part of the stanza
Dickinson elaborates the bird metaphor saying that it sings and never stops. A bird singing is
commonly thought to be a comforting and

Core Concepts Of Identity Paper
Core Concepts
Identity
Identity refers to structured sense of self, which manipulates itself in threads of life (Burr, 2015).
Figure 1 of Tūrangawaewae shows individuals identity can be classified under our age, our gender
(male or female), the values and beliefs we share (religious or non religious), the experiences ( good
or bad), the people we surround ourselves with (friends and family), also not limited to, from our
genetic inheritance (ancestors or parents). However, identity threads are not pre inherited but are pre
constructed idea influenced by social experiences (Kahu, 2015). I am a woman, 21 years of age,

Yet again participation in social events constructs a new identity, a voice. Voices are not just the right
to vote or express belonging through the act of protest, as not all voices are intended to get
acknowledged (Kahu, 2015). Being a union member I portray my identity in a different way.
Participating in strikes is my way of conveying my rights. This participation concludes my idea of
raising awareness of what is important to my identity, my sense of belonging in a community.
Although an act of protest may not make a difference in an overall outcome, it can still leave the idea
behind for future consideration. Not always we act on behalf of conveying the self belonging but the
belonging of a community as a whole. In the end my rights is my

The Effects Of Video Games On Our Culture Today
ABSTRACT
Video games have become a driving force in our culture today, and the effects, both positive and
negative are scrutinized on a daily basis. The violent aspects of this form of media are a cause of
concern, but to what effect remains an important question. This research proposal aims to look at a
gap in the literature on this topic by qualitatively accessing aggression and enjoyment of players based
on varying difficulty levels and numerous genre types available in the market today. The ultimate goal
is to understand if the difficulty is an additional cause for potential aggressive behavior.
INTRODUCTION
In the Entertainment Software Association s 2013 report, information on the video game industry can
summarized as: 1) 59% of Americans play video games, 2) Consumers spent $21.83 billion on video
game hardware/accessories and video games, 3) 48% of all gamers are women, and 4) 51% of US
households own a dedicated console, and those that do own an average of two. (theesa.com, 2014).
The facts speak for themselves: video games have become a significant part of our culture today, and
can also be seen internationally. I personally worked for gaming retailer GameStop for almost 8 years,
and utilizing that knowledge base, I intend to be a part of the growing industry. However, it is
important to understand that the past time so many enjoy can have adverse effects, as legal battles over
the violent content of games have attempted to argue. Various school shootings

Pablo Picasso And George Braque
1. Pablo Picasso and George Braque founded cubism in the early 20th century in Paris. It was an
artwork to be considered as the first radical approach in expressing visual reality. According to Cubist,
any perception of an object was a composite of simultaneous and different perspectives. Cubism tries
to help one understand the world around them in a different way by changing their perspective on a
certain subject. It is an approach of art where a painter takes a real life object and changes it in a
completely different way to the way he or she views it in there mind and how they perceive it. Cubism
used geometric shapes to replace traditional forms. An example of this type of art form is Picasso s

One of the most famous Surrealists was the Spaniard Salvadore Dali, who subverted the sense of
reality in his painting by using near photographic detail in presenting a fantastic and irrational world.
One of his most famous artworks was the persistence of memory . It represented that time was fluid.
What motivated him to draw this picture was the Brie cheese that was melting in front of him while he
was having a picnic.
2. Technological achievements created a second stage of the Industrial Revolution that transformed the
human environment and led people to believe that their material progress would improve world
conditions and solve all human problems. The invention of electricity was a major new form of energy
that proved to be of great value since it could be easily converted into other forms of energy, such as
heat, light, and motion, and moved relatively effortlessly through space by means of transmitting
wires. In 1910, hydroelectric power stations and coal fired steam generating plants enabled entire
districts to be tied into s ingle power distribution system that provided a common source of power for
homes, shops, and industrial enterprises. Electricity procreated a whole series of innovative products
such as the incandescent filament lamp. This opened homes and cities to illumination by electric

Listeners must discriminate between sounds, understand vocabulary and grammatical structures,
interpret stress and intention, retain and interpret this within the immediate as well as the larger socio
cultural context of the utterance (Wipf, 1984). Listeners use both bottom up processers and top down
processes to comprehend (Guo and Wills ,1999). Listening comprehension has different roles in
different language learning theories. Behaviorism emphasizes changes in behaviors due to the
influence and control of the external environment, rather than the internal thought process of the
subject (Merriam and Caffarella, 1999). Anderson
(2002) mentioned that metacognition can be defined simply as thinking about thinking. He also
mentioned that Cognitivism focuses more on more complex cognitive processes such as thinking,
problem solving, language, concept formation and information processing. Listening plays a crucial
role in students language development. Krashen (1985) argues that people acquire language by
understanding the linguistic information they hear. Thus language acquisition is achieved mainly
through receiving understandable input and listening ability is the critical component in achieving
understandable language input. Given the importance of listening in language learning and teaching,
this research tries to investigate the role of listening

Assignment On Capstone Research Project Essay
Assignment 3: Capstone Research Project Write Down Inventory The concept of write down
inventory states that the value of inventory should appear in financial statements only if it has some
value, which is equal to the difference between the current market replacement value and the original
inventory cost. IAS 2 stipulates that loss on write down inventory if small should be reported as part
of the cost of goods sold and if huge, it should be reported on a separate line on the income statement.
It thus follows that exclusion of write down inventory may lead to investor overestimation of earnings
persistence thereby leading to ethical and financial implications. The ethical issues include loss of
brand value and goodwill, concealment of fraud penalties, and loss of shareholder and investor
confidence while financial implications may include excessive compensation of the management. It
would be advisable for both the CFO and CEO of the company to consider negative assessment by the
IRS since the company used write down inventory to reduce its taxable income. The amount is
inaccurate and is evidently used for tax purposes and was not included in the income statement as
stipulated. The IRS thus would be compelled to contact the fraud technical advisor and the front line
manager to ascertain the length of such an activity and thereby claim the tax payable in addition to
fraud charges. The CFO and CEO should identify any changes in operations that may have led to slow
moving or

The Tragedy Of King Lear
The Tragedy of King Lear: William Shakespeare, a playwright of the 1600 s, has been well known for
writing many plays and poems. His play titled The Tragedy of King Lear is remembered globally and
is learned in many schools today. A continuous theme in King Lear is a disguise, which consists of
many different forms. There are physical, manipulative, and figurative disguises. In the beginning of
the play, characters already fall into this category. In the first act, King Lear is at old age and begins to
think irrationally and illogically. He wishes to live the rest of his life in tranquility, deprived of any
further responsibilities of ruling the kingdom. Deciding to distribute his kingdom between his three
daughters, King Lear challenges them to a game of flattery. This leads to Cordelia, his youngest and
most beloved daughter being disowned and Kent, his trusted advisor and good friend banished from
the kingdom. The Earl of Gloucester is left baffled and discusses it with his illegitimate son, Edmund,
who hands his father a forged letter. Edmund frames his legitimate brother, Edgar, with this letter
speaking of him wishing for his father s death. In the second act Regan, Lear s daughter, visits
Gloucester with her husband Cornwall, after hearing rumors. Edmund uses this as a ploy for him to
get rid of his brother. King Lear in rage leaves Goneril s house and goes to Regan who isn t home. He
then visits Gloucester only to find his daughter there. After a series of

Identification And Identification
Identification has two elements most people know and focus on the first; most companies are
notoriously poor at the second. The first Identification element is, not surprisingly, to understand the
characteristics of potential and current customers, as well as their influencers. This means delving into
what needs they have, what motivates those needs, how they want those needs solved, and who else
influences those needs and potential solutions. It also means looking beyond those presenting
symptoms to the underlying problem that needs to be solved (even if the customer themselves doesn t
recognize it). For example, many people will say that the need to own a car when what they actually
need is transportation. And that broader need can be solved in many ways other than owning a car
(bus, bike, taxi, Uber). The second Identification element described by Peppers and Rogers is to, link
information about that customer across the company and throughout the duration of the customer s
relationship with the firm. This is where I would argue that most companies have a long way to go to
be successful. For example, the first step when calling many companies is to enter your customer
ID/Social Security number/whatever on the telephone keypad . . . and then the first thing the person
who (eventually!) answers the phone does is to ask you for the information you just entered! In
addition, from personal experience, I have run into many situations where sales representatives

In spite of what painters, archeologists, or researchers of the nineteenth century believed about the
ancient world, cuneiform has since proven its historical mettle. As displayed by Darius and his
memorial at Bisitun, the early, crude cuneiform of 5000 B.C.E. adapted itself to culture after culture,
and morphed into the dusty forerunner of our modern alphabet. The Phoenicians, the original ancient
mariners, are responsible for transforming cuneiform into a more efficient writing system by paring
down the somewhat ungainly number of 5,000 cuneiform characters into 29 characters. Adopted
around 1000 B.C.E., the Phoenician alphabet was not a collection of pictographs like many early
forms of writing, but instead a close relative of many modern writing systems.11 The sophisticated
navy and extensive trade network of Phoenicia ensured that this new version of cuneiform would
quickly spread to its ancient neighbors. Phoenicia s alphabet would soon be adopted by the Greeks,
who also refined and perfected this writing system to meet their own needs; likewise the Romans,
eager inheritors of all things Greek, adopted the alphabet for their own use. It could be said that the
highly adaptive descendants of cuneiform formed the basis for the literature of the Classical world.
The Phoenician cuneiform alphabet was also adopted by Jewish culture, providing a medium for

molecular weight of sugar (C = 12.01 grams/mol, H = 1.008 grams/mole, O = 15.00 grams/mole). We

Sexism In Merchant Of Venice
William Shakespeare is often praised as the best playwright but does his works fall victim of the
patriarchal influence? In one of Shakespeare s famous works The Merchant of Venice, there is sexism
prevalent throughout these characters actions and interactions. Shakespeare s writing may have been
influenced by his era with sexism influencing scenes like the trial and the lottery of the caskets. The
first thing one should consider while analyzing Shakespeare s writing is the social norms of his time.
As any writer most likely is Shakespeare s plays and other writings including the work The Merchant
of Venice are influenced by the world he lives in. This is a time where patriarchal views were the only
ones heard. Although the female characters in the play may have more agency Shakespeare writes
these witty and willed women to be submissive to these men. To give historical context the essay
Women According to Men: The World of Tudor Stuart Women by Suzanne W. Hull put very well the
existence of women in the Renaissance era. When England was ruled for half a century by Queens but
women had almost no legal power; When marriage, a woman s main vocation, cost them their
personal property rights; when the ideal woman was rarely seen and never heard in public; when the
clothes a women wore were legally dictated by her social class; when almost all school teachers were
men; when medicine was prepared and purified at home; when corsets were constructed of wood and
cosmetics made of bacon and eggs; when only half of all babies survived to adulthood? (Hull 15). As
this passage illustrates the role of women was a very scarce role. They were supposed to only be seen
and never heard. Women were expected to always be prim and proper. Upper class women were able
to speak their minds but their ideas and thoughts were shaped by men. A woman could not do or think
much without input given by men. A woman was controlled by her father from the day she is born
until the day she is married, from which she would then be handed directly to a husband to control her
in that role. Women legally belonged to their husbands during the Renaissance. Women were always
expected to be to be devoted housewives. These ideas, although it may

The Ethics Of Eating By Eric Dickers Analysis
Unfavorable Towards Employers When it comes to figuring out an author s point of view, it can be
simple or complicated. We have to pay close attention to the author s text and ideas to claim a single
point of view by analyzing the tone, diction, purpose, and modes of discourse. Readings can have a
favorable, unfavorable, neutral, or an ambivalent point of view depending on how the other chooses
their words. An author can easily demonstrate how they feel about the topic they are writing such as
Eric Haas. Through his writing in his essay, The Ethics of Eating , we can see Haas does not support
the maltreat of farm workers. It is common farm workers have one of the low paying jobs, but being
treated bad by their employers is wrong. Haas is very clear about this subject in his writing. The
Ethics of Eating: Consider the Farmworkers the essay by Eric Haas, has an unfavorable point of view
towards employers mistreating their farm workers. In The Ethics of Eating: Consider the Farmworkers

Social Norm Of Having Children Essay
The world has always followed some type of order from the first day it was created up until now.
People in society have always struggled with following and abiding by the social norms in their
culture. In the past it was normal for women to get married and have children all before the age of
twenty. Over time, that became the social norm or lifestyle that everyone was following. Just as
quickly as that norm developed it changed. Ever since the early two thousands, having children in

America is country that follows a broad set of norms that are easy to conform to but when broken the

extremely difficult to finish high school, get a career, and assimilate into the working world. There is a
stigma that teen mothers are unable to move up in society because they violated a strong social norm

Family As A Traditional Family
Family
Language constantly evolves and changes as it is adopted by different cultures. Consequently, words
have many definitions, connotations and origins. Family is a term that has changed over time; as a
result the traditional definition of family is inadequate, and limited to describe the modern version of
the term. Our society tends to attach itself to the traditional conceptualization of family better know as
a nuclear family which includes a set of parents, and their biological offspring (Kompara). In America,
known as a melting pot of all cultures and races, there are many implications for the word family thus
there is no such thing as a traditional family. The traditional definition, which is limited parents and
their children, can no longer be used to describe an American family because of our diverse and
changing familial structures.
The word family dates back to the 13th century and is derived from Old French word famelie ( Family
). The word originally defined the relationship of group of people living under the same roof,
household [including servants] (1337), group of people related by blood, lineage (1442 4), a group of
people who share a common philosophy (1658) ( Family ). Growing up in a different country, my
culture taught me an immediate family only consists of a mother, a father and siblings. But in America
it s not as simple because there are many variants of a family.
American families are the most diverse, encompassing gay/lesbian

The Process Of Making And Changing Laws Varies Throughout...
Mid Term #2 Prompt 1
The process of making and changing laws varies throughout regions, cultures and religions. This trend
applies to all religions, no matter how similar they may appear. Take for example, Catholicism and
Judaism; religions that share common traits in beliefs, customs and law. These similarities may lead
people to believe their legal process of legal change is also cognate, but that is not the case. Although
their process of legal change may appear as similar, the key differences are highlighted through the
legislators and the necessity of deriving law from an authoritative text. The factors that affect these
differences relate to the structure of the organization, the governing body, and the purpose behind the
creation of religious law in each system. Judaism s and Catholicism s legal process are alike in many
different ways. For example, although rabbinic responsa and papal decretals seem completely different
in definition, they share common characteristics. Responsa is defined as the answers to questions
submitted by someone having communal authority to someone having greater communal authority (
Law and religion in Judaism , 46) The community asks questions regarding law, and the rabbis, an
authoritative source, reply with a binding answer. On the other hand, papal decretals are laws and rules
issued by the pope. The denotation of these processes sound completely different, but their similarity
lies in the nature of papal decretals. The majority of

Wearing Make-Up Essay
In the morning, I would always remember to apply make up. I loved applying eye shadow, filling in

features. It was a form of expression that I was able to apply on myself and present to everyone else.
Wearing make up also gave me confidence. Along with giving me confidence, it also helped me to
approach others. Make up covered the flaws that I saw on my face, which made me feel more
comfortable knowing that people would not be staring at my pimples or eye bags. Those who are fond

but can their make up affect others around them? What are their first impressions of those who wear

Pocket Issue Of Pocket Medical Costs
Introduction
Out of pocket medical costs continue to cause debate in the U.S. Out of pocket costs consist of
insurance premiums, co payments, co insurance, and unsubsidized care costs. Researchers suggest that
out of pocket medical expenses have tripled for the average American family since 2001(Girod, 2016).
Other studies indicate that the growth rate of these costs is double the annual income rate for U.S.
individuals and families. Still, some argue that out of pocket medical costs are appropriate considering
healthcare utilization (Cutler, 2004). This paper addresses the arguments supporting and refuting the
stance that out of pocket medical expenses are too high.
Why out of pocket costs are too high
Insurance purchased through federal marketplace exchanges contain high deductibles and high co
pays, causing high out of pocket costs. The introduction of insurance exchanges, coupled with the
financial penalties of the individual mandate, added approximately 11 million individuals and families
to the healthcare market place (Sun, 2016). The exchanges allow individuals to shop for insurance
plans that contain varying levels of coverage. Although these plans cover preventive services, they do
not protect against out of pocket costs. Research suggests that copay amounts under exchange plans
are 20% higher than those of employer sponsored plans. Furthermore, studies show that deductible
amounts for some exchange plans are five times greater than for employer sponsored plans

The shifting of clouds around the noon sun tell him that lunch break is around the corner and that it
may be one of the most peaceful days to take lunch outside. Now, as he ties up clutter around his desk,
he is paged by his darling partner and secretary Janet who announces, Gough, Brady is coming in.
Right then, the voice of Brady Gough drifts closer, and joined by his distinctively slow but obnoxious
footsteps through Janet s hall. His nothing above normal compliments towards Janet echo, along with
her fiddle laughter, until he opens the door to Van Buren s office. Van Buren is in slight relief. The few
previous times with Brady had not been so voluntary. He pulls his bottom desk drawer out and walks
his finger through in search of Gough s folder. I did not have you listed for a noon appointment, but it
is quite nice to. . . A sudden plop takes his speech off track, and entices him to glance up from his desk
drawer. . . . See you. . . In front of the desk stands Brady, almost too enlightened. He had dropped his
flaccid member on the edge of the doctor s desk, acquainted with a bunched and clinging condom, and
he is posed dressed in nothing but proud sweat and skin. How are ya,

Comparing Wollstonecraft And Barbauld
Women s Rights in the Eyes of Wollstonecraft and Barbauld
I call with the firm tone of humanity; for my arguments, Sir, are dictated by a disinterested spirit I
plead for my sex not for myself (Wollstonecraft 2). Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary
Wollstonecraft and Rights of Woman by Anna Barbauld are two works that discuss the idea of women
s rights. In many ways, the two works greatly relate to one another and the authors seem to believe in
the same values, but they find ways that are both alike and different to portray their message of
women s equality.
Mary Wollstonecraft is known for her most popular work written in 1759, the author of A Vindication
of the Rights of Woman. This piece was known as one of the first feminist ... Show more content on

Wollstonecraft was radical and direct. Much of her text was straightforward and she showed no
regards in holding back her thoughts. In some sense she was sarcastic, and mocked the way women
were looked upon such as when she says My own sex, I hope, will excuse me, if I treat them like
rational creatures, instead of flattering their FASCINATING graces, and viewing them as if they were
in a state of perpetual childhood, unable to stand alone. By emphasizing fascinating graces, she is
mocking the norm expectation of how women were supposed to act during that time period. On the
other hand, in Barbauld s poem, she mentions women s graces to their advantage. Go, gird thyself
with grace; collect thy store Of bright artillery glancing from afar; Soft melting tones thy thundering
cannon s roar, Blushes and fears thy magazine of war. (Barbauld) She suggests that women should use
their lady like qualities men have established upon them to their advantage, rather than try to fight
against it. It is clear that Wollstonecraft believed that women deserve equality to men and that the only
reason they were not as equal was because they were not given the proper tools to be so (such as
education). In her work, she does not try to take the approach that women are better than men or

Michel Foucault s Theory Of Surveillance
Surveillance
One of my former teachers, Michael Gedville, it s not what you do when people are watching, but
what you do when others aren t watching. This quote reminds me about Michel Foucault, who was a
French social theorist. He was a physiologist that had a different perspective than the original
physiologist. Foucault would go astray from the normal path of thinking and try new ideas. One
example is Foucault s perspective on societal surveillance. This emerged in the West after about 1600
as a means of reforming malefactors and shaping the actions of all members of society. Foucault
believed surveillance emerged as a means to change human behavior, and many contemporary
surveillance technologies reflect this larger social function of ensuring that the rules of proper conduct
and behavior are internalized by members of society.
Ruptures and discontinuity in the 1800s gave way to the development and need for surveillance.
Author Michel Foucault addresses this when he explains the transition from physical punishment to a
mental or soul punishment; this change happened because crimes started to change thus, criminals
become smarter. Civil authority wanted to rehabilitate and prevent more criminals rather than killing
them, therefore, the prison was born. With the birth of the prison lead to the birth of surveille.
Surveillance is not only used to monitor those that committed a crime, but those that might not.
Therefore, preventing crime in the first place and reducing

Titanic Sinning

The Sinking of the Greatest
My paper is about the Titanic and why it is an important event in history. The Titanic was an awfully
big ship. It was about 883 feet long, and weighed 52,310 tons which is huge, the largest ship ever
actually. It was designed by Thomas Andrews, but built by Harland and Wolff, which was a ship
building company. It was built in Belfast, United Kingdom. They started building the ship on March
31, 1909 and launched the final ship project on May 31, 1911. Which I honestly think they finished it
really fast. The Titanic when full could carry 2,435 passengers, and a crew of approximately 900.
Which brought her capacity to more than 3,300 plus people. With all those 3,300 plus ... Show more

They probably just did it for all the talk and all the publicity. In the end publicity is for sure what they
got, more than expected. They spent a total of $7,500,000 ($174 million in today s money) to build the
ship that is now at the bottom of the ocean, along with tons of dead souls. Because of careless
mistakes from dumb people. There were too many mistakes made that caused the disaster. However
the Titanic could have been saved had just a few of these events not happened. If people would listen
to warnings and suggestions, than yes this tragedy could have been avoided. If the caption had been
listening to the six warnings that he was given then the ship have been able to steer away from the
iceberg. It doesn t take much effort to steer the ship away from the iceberg. Someone actually took the
time to contact the ship SIX TIMES, the least you could do is move the ship a little bit to get away
from the iceberg. Even if they had slowed down because they were going too fast, they would have
seen the iceberg sooner, and would have been able to think about what to do. That would have given
them more time to avoid

Gender Equality And Empowerment Of Women
The United Nations Millennium Declaration states that the main focus should be on gender equality
and empowerment of women in order to fight poverty, hunger and with that, help development that is
sustainable. (O Brien Williams 2013,212) Taking gender into the account while observing global
economy shows that men and women are impacted in various ways considering trade, production and
financial flows. (O Brien Williams 2013,212) The term feminization of poverty originates from about
1970s debates in United States, which was focused on welfare and single mothers. (BRIDGE) This
concept came into the spotlight in the 1990s and the term continued to be questioned and researched.
Criticisms emphasized the difference in female headed households, and how there are other
dimensions of women s vulnerability that influenced the situation of poor women too, unlike for men.
( Carolina J. Wennerholm 2002,9) The concept of the feminization of poverty has meant three distinct
things: that women compared to men have a higher incidence of poverty; that women s poverty is
more severe than men s; and that the incidence of poverty among women is increasing compared to
that of men. in the recent year and the development debates are continued on how to approach this
matter. ( Carolina J. Wennerholm 2002,9) Thus far, it s important to recognize that the concept started
from the issues of female headed households, to the raising world wide awareness on great number of
women living in

Why People Eat Bananas
Bananas, a very common fruit that is seen at all grocery stores are not naturally made. There are dozen
of species and different types of bananas, though they are not the ones that humans consume. The
banana that humans eat is called the Cavendish banana. This was not always the banana of choice. The
Gros Michel was the banana of choice until the 1960s. Though, the Gros Michel was extincted due to
the Panama disease. A disease which is now threating the survival of the Cavendish and the entire fruit
as a whole.
Yes, most bananas found in grocery stores and Walmarts are made by people. However, there are wild
banana plants that are native to South and Southeast Asia. Humans do not eat these bananas. We do
not eat bananas with seeds, well noticable ones. Bananas found in the stores have been cultivated
causing the seeds to stop existing. The only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of banana was bigger, sweeter, and had a thicker skin. Banana flavored things like candy and
juices do not taste like normal bananas. The flavoring is actually the taste of a Gros Michel. The
reason why people do not eat Gros Michel anymore due to the genetic monotony of the Gros Michel.
A fungicide resistant pathogen, the Panama disease began infecting the crop. When the growers finally
realized of the disease, most of the population of the Gros Michel was extinct.
Due to the common banana going extinct at this time, the entire industry had to be rebuilt for the
Cavendish banana. Although, the Cavendish is seedless the only way to reproduce the banana was to
transplant part of the plant stem. The Cavendish has been the noble banana choice due to its resistance
to the Panama disease. However, after awhile the disease will be able to figure out a new way to infect
and destroy the genetic makeup. Once one of the individuals is infected there is no diversity to stop it.
This has caused scientists to worry about the survival of the

Stonewall Lesbians In The Stonewall
No discussion of homosexual rights is complete without addressing the looming specter that is
Stonewall. According to Carter s (2005) account, on the night of June 28th, 1969, four plainclothes
police officers, two uniformed officers, a detective of the NYPD, and a deputy inspector approached
the doors of the Stonewall Inn and announced their arrival by shouting Police! We re taking the place!
Following this, they began arresting patrons of the Inn. The scene that night was one of unrest; even
before the riots, there was a general sense of unease and discontent. According to some accounts, the
police attempted to arrest a butch lesbian a stone dyke butch and cracked her over the head with a
baton. After several attempts to escape, as she was being forced into the squad car for the final time,
she shouted: Why don t you guys do something! At this point, the scene had gone from uneasy to
riotous. Although Carter questions whether the Stonewall Lesbian in fact existed, others, have claimed
that the mysterious figure was Stormé DeLarverie (DeLarverie and Chu, 2010). Regardless, what is
clear is the crowd began to throw coins, then followed it up by larger objects such as stones, bricks,
and trash cans. The officers remaining on the scene and a nearby reporter who would publish his
account in The Village Voice took shelter inside the bar, and the former patrons began a siege. At some
point, a nearby parking meter was ripped from the concrete and used as a battering ram. The

African American And Other Ethnic Groups Incarcerated...
Introduction
When we hear the words justice system we should be thinking about fairness, justice, honesty,
righteousness. However, contrary to what comes to mind in reality the justice system is rife with
inequality, injustice, corruption and dishonestly. The definition for institutional inequality is the
existence of unequal opportunities and rewards for different social positions or statuses within a group
of society (about.com) and this is what people of color are facing on a daily basis. On this paper
examined the research about the ratio of African American and other ethnic groups incarcerated versus
whites, also how this affects the community, why such a high percentage of African Americans ages
25 29 are incarcerated and the racial disparities that exist in the justice system. Historically African
Americans have been discriminated against in the United States and a system of race based hierarchy
still exists. The lower class includes the Blacks and Hispanic population and other so called
minorities. The upper class includes the white population also called majority, the higher social
position of white the population allows for a greater advantage when it comes to the writing and
application of laws that will apply to the majority and minority population.
II. What is Racial Disparity?
Racial disparity in the criminal justice system exists when the proportion of a racial or ethnic group
within the control of the system is greater than the proportion of such

Memory of a Young Boy in The poem My Papa’s Waltz by...
My Papa s Waltz The poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke presents a memory from a young
boy waltzing with his father. The waltz is a metaphor that represents the relationship the boy has with
his father. Although the poem may seem like a happy and sweet story of a father and son dancing in
the kitchen there are also some darker underlying tones. The speaker, who is the young boy, is
directing theses words towards his father, but does not actually express them directly to the father,
instead the speaker is just reflecting upon them in his head. In the first stanza of the first line the
reader finds out the father has been drinking, a lot, so much that his son also feels dazed from the
alcohol on the fathers breath. Also the boy, hung on like death (3) this is a simile, meaning that he is
hanging on tightly even though it may be hard. In the same line the speaker uses the word death this
makes the poem feel a little somber and not very happy. At the end of the stanza in line four we find
out that the boy was having difficulties waltzing with the father, the dancing they were doing was
awkward for the young boy because the father was inebriated and loose from the drinking. Since the
waltz represents the relationship they hold, this could very likely mean that it is not easy to be with his
father every so often. Dancing with the father was not a quiet and graceful moment, but the young
boy seems to accept it. In the second stanza we find out they are doing more

Comparing A Workaholic And Alcoholic
A workaholic and alcoholic have similar qualities. Each quality affects oneself and those around
physically, mentally, and socially. A workaholic is someone who has a compulsive need to work,
however; an alcoholic is someone who persistently needs to drink alcohol. Although the desires are
different, they still are affected by addiction the same way.
One of the common effects of being a workaholic is experiencing exhaustion. The long hours and the
rigorous work load could harm or damage someone s body, as well as drinking alcohol on a daily
basis. When drunk one can experience blackouts, dizziness, and shakiness. Both alcohol and
consistent working can cause one s body to give out on them. These two activities can hinder exercise
and muscle movement for long periods of time, which can be detrimental as someone s life
progresses. When one is drunk, they exhibit aggressive behavior which can result in hurting others.
Workaholics are usually absent from home, leaving a child unattended and exposed to bodily harm.

They become in denial about the situations they are facing. When someone is dependent on a sole
thing in order to live comfortably their psyche can be affected; both of these addictions can cause
psychiatric disorders. If someone is constantly working, not making time for leisure or exercise they
can develop Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression, anxiety, and obsessive
compulsive disorders. Alcoholics can develop various forms of OCD as well. Continuously working
and not being available in a loved one s life can cause depression. Some alcoholics blackout and have
no recollection for what they have done. During this time they can say hurtful things to people they
love and they won t even remember. Not only can alcoholics and workaholics be physically and
mentally affected by their condition, they can be socially affected as

First we must know what it is.The Suisun Bay ghost fleet are a group of toxic ships near Benicia in the waters of the San Francisco Bay and Delta Estuary. They have been polluting the waters since they have been abandon which adds up to decades. Many of the ships in the ghost fleet are obsolete ships that were decommissioned and placed in storage in Suisun Bay after World War II and the Korean War with the idea that they could be reactivated for wartime use (San Francisco Baykeeper). • 3. The Unreasonable Fear of Wolves in Never Cry Wolf by... The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown ― H.P. Lovecraft. Fear drives mankind to hate what he cannot comprehend. With this irrational fear mankind is controlled and set on a path of destruction and chaos. In the autobiography Never Cry Wolf written by Farley Mowat, the main character (Farley Mowat), journeys to the Canadian tundra to study the much feared wolf. There he discovers the fear brought upon by men, and how it can result horribly for the wolves. The human race was so frightened by the unknown species that they began to blame the wolves for cold slaughters, portrayed them as vicious killers, and because of the fear of the unknown tried to exterminate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trappers understand that no one understands the wolves so they see it fit to make them the ones to take the blame. Mankind needs to start to realize that it is there own fear that drives humans to blame the wolves for their own problems. Without the proper knowledge needed to understand how the wolf works, the creature is inaccurately shown as a wild, vicious killer. As Mowat progresses through his research he learns about the wolves hunting abilities and begins to acquire new information and states, I could hardly believe that the all powerful and intelligent wolf would limit his predation on the caribou herds to culling the sick and infirm when he could presumably, take his choice of the fattest and most succulent individuals (Mowat 126). The way the government and people portray wolves as mindless killers is not only false, but it is far from the truth. Wolves are instead intelligent creatures that have the ability to choose and pick the right kill. Also, as Mowat researches their eating habits he finds that the wolves of Wolf House Bay, and, by inference at least, all the Barren Land wolves who were raising families outside the summer caribou range, were living largely, on mice (Mowat 107). During the summer the wolves weren t even that cause of the deaths of caribou. Instead they found new resources to live off of when the caribou leave so they can continue to survive. • 5. All The Years Of Her Life Essay 1. Write an essay in which you examine the different kinds of conflict present in any of the stories studied thus far. How does the conflict(s) affect the theme of the story? Conflict and Its Influence on the Themes in All the Years of her Life The idea of Conflict is an extremely complex one and is vividly evident in the short story All the years of her life by Morley Callaghan. It is important to define the term Conflict , as defined by the Oxford Dictionary Be incompatible or at a variance; clash ( Conflict Definition of Conflict in English | Oxford Dictionaries ). Moreover, Mrs. Higgins was conflicted from all the decisions her children has been making from Alfred stealing to when Alfred s young sister had kept repeating doggedly that she was getting married (Callaghan 6). Mrs. Higgins has a breakdown as Alfred describes her Her face as she sat there was a frightened broken face utterly unlike the face of the woman who had been so assured a little while ago (Callaghan 5). The realization the protagonist had was that she was conflicted with all the wrong choices she made and the people around her had made, her broken spirit symbolizes that she may have made the wrong decision earlier. The theme of realization and resolution is again developed from the conflict that the protagonist had faced in her life, the realization she has after dealing with all her conflicts as she reflects on the table. The Affects Of The Alternative Source Of Alternative Sources The Affects of the Use of Alternative Sources Miguel Pereira Gwynedd Mercy University Abstract Alternative sources are often published as nuclear, solar, wind, and also hydroelectric energy. These types of energy are given to us in the United States and the world to help us live a better and healthier life. Alternative energy is much cleaner and also more efficient than the fossil fuel energy that we use now. These types of energies can provide a much higher impact towards environment, economy, and society. As people we need to find out how we can use these energies to benefit us and also the planet. If designed correctly, buildings could capture the sun s heat in the winter and possibly minimize it in the summer, while using the daylight year round. The designs for these buildings are in such a way that utilizes passive solar energy a resource that can be tapped without mechanical means to help heat, cool, or light up a building (Union of Concerned Scientists). Other than using design features to maximize the use of the sun, some buildings have systems that actively gather and store solar energy. Solar collectors, for example, sit on top of buildings to collect solar energy for space heating, water heating, and space cooling (Union of Concerned Scientists). They are mostly designed as pipes in a box carry liquids that transfer the heat from the box into the buildings. They are usually painted black on the inside and are covered by glass. Solar collectors like desiccant evaporators are used to pull moisture out of the air. Solar collectors were popular in the early 1980s, in the aftermath of the energy crisis (Union of Concerned Scientists). In the 19484, for example, 16 million square feet of collectors were sold in the United States, but when fossil fuel prices dropped and tax credits expired in the mid 1980s, demand for solar collectors plummeted (Union of Concerned Scientists). The future of solar energy technology is poised for significant growth in the 21st century (Union of Concerned Scientists). It has been said that more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Low Country Healthy Start Program The Low Country Healthy Start program was designed to eliminate disparities in perinatal health, improve birth outcomes, and quality of life in African American women and infants living in Allendale, Bamberg, Hampton, and Orangeburg counties. This process evaluation sought to determine whether the services provided by LCHS were effective in changing the birth outcomes associated with chronic disease in African American women. Data collected from the initial risk screening and assessment survey along with attendance data from services provided by LCHS was utilized. Case summaries and frequencies were ran on all data linked with chronic disease to determine the risk factors, recognize who was at risk, and what services were provided. Findings suggest that Asthma was the most common chronic disease amongst its participants with smoking tobacco, poor coping skills, negative feelings, and inadequate housing being the risk factors associated with asthma. The services provided by LCHS were found to be insufficient in reaching participants with chronic disease. The program in general proves to be useful and beneficial in addressing the major issues associated with low birthweight infants, however the data collected for this particular study is all self reported which leaves gaps and unanswered questions due to inconsistency in the data received. • 9. Why Zoos Should Not Be Used By the basic definition, something is rare when it either does not occur often or it is not found in large numbers which adds to its interest and value. The rarity of an object can be argued by different groups of people. This causes debates about what should be considered rare and to what degree of rarity an object is. If said object is classified as rare, what should be done with that object or idea and how, if at all, should it be preserved. In this essay, I am going to question the idea of rarity and show why rarity should not be used as a way to regulate environments. One view of rarity comes from the realists; they believe ... an object is unique within a purview: given a certain boundary, there exists no other object like it. This idea makes defining something as rare only specific to the boundary set. So, if something is rare in America it may not be as rare, if rare at all, in Europe. This could have complications when considering different aspects of nature and how to define those aspects as rare. For example, to Americans the Niagara Falls is a rare phenomenon and should be maintained due to their rarity, however in other parts of the world there are falls just as good, if not better than the Niagara Falls. An example of this would be the Victoria Falls in Africa; this is also a rare phenomenon but is it equally as rare as the Niagara Falls? When trying to regulate environments, rarity always comes into play as it pertains to preservation. The rarer something ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

International Trade Agreement And Globalization TJ Ifaturoti BUSN 225 Professor Mavubi October 26, 2015 The Unites States of America has long been a country with international trade agreements, such as with: China, Guatemala, Mexico, Canada, and many other countries. The trade agreements have been made due to a few factors; embargos, the cost of manufacturing being less costly in foreign countries, treaties which benefit both trading parties by the elimination of tariffs and other various barriers, increased competition, and reduced import costs. Although there seem to be very few factors listed, there are in actuality many more factors which go into a trade agreement. A prime example of a trade agreement and globalization is the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) which consists of The United States of America, Canada, and Mexico. The international market is opened up when services, capital, and goods cross America s borders. Which also opens up opportunities for Americans as well as other foreigners to take advantage of the market place. Buyers are able to take advantage of the least expensive services and goods the market has to offer, as well as the ability to choose the best investments opportunities. We often define communication as the act of talking to one another via different platforms, be it face to face, via emails or even through videos. Through this act, we are trying to pass a message or relate something to the intended audience. We face this every day in our lives, even if we do not leave the house and talk to anyone. For example, even reading a cooking recipe is counted as a form of communication. It is a form of communication between the reader and the writer. Many people would know of this unfortunate incident, but not many would know that it was probably the cause of an ineffective communication. The incident goes as follows, In July of 1945, the allied leaders had a meeting in Potsdam and they submitted a stiffly worded declaration of surrender terms to the Japanese. These terms had included a statement to the effect that any negative answer would invite prompt and utter destruction. The allied leaders (Harry S Truman, Winston Churchill and Stalin) also stated that they hoped that Japan would agree to surrender unconditionally and prevent devastation of the Japanese homeland and that they patiently awaited Japan s answer. This was known as the Potsdam Declaration. The Japanese Premier at that time, Kantaro Suzuki answered using the Japanese word mokusatsu , which is derived from the word for silence . Yet, this word had a second meaning which also means not worthy of comment . In the heat of the moment, the meaning was thought to be the second one, which may be true as the Japanese were very prideful, as we can see from the Kamikaze spirit. To rather die than be captured. In the first line Dickinson is suggesting that hope is more than just a feeling it is something physical, in this case, a bird. Each part of the bird has meaning in this poem whether it be its actions its or its physical appearance. Hope relates to a bird a lot more than one would think. Feathers are what makes a bird fly, they protect the bird and keep it safe. If a wing is broken, then the bird is most likely going to die because it cannot fly anywhere. If a person is broken it means that they have no hope and if there is no hope inside someone s soul, then are they really living? Next Dickinson says, That perches in the soul . Here it is implied that the bird is something emotional, something we all have inside of us. Perches makes you think of a bird on a branch or on an object. The bird is resting on a perch in our soul, the bird is hope. Hope is held within our soul and that is where it stays forever. A perch can be thought of as a home for the bird. The soul is a home for hope. It is within our soul that we find our desire and positive thinking. The third and fourth line says, And sings the tune without the words, And never stops at all . In this part of the stanza Dickinson elaborates the bird metaphor saying that it sings and never stops. A bird singing is commonly thought to be a comforting and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Effects Of Video Games On Our Culture Today ABSTRACT Video games have become a driving force in our culture today, and the effects, both positive and negative are scrutinized on a daily basis. The violent aspects of this form of media are a cause of concern, but to what effect remains an important question. This research proposal aims to look at a gap in the literature on this topic by qualitatively accessing aggression and enjoyment of players based on varying difficulty levels and numerous genre types available in the market today. The ultimate goal is to understand if the difficulty is an additional cause for potential aggressive behavior. INTRODUCTION In the Entertainment Software Association s 2013 report, information on the video game industry can summarized as: 1) 59% of Americans play video games, 2) Consumers spent $21.83 billion on video game hardware/accessories and video games, 3) 48% of all gamers are women, and 4) 51% of US households own a dedicated console, and those that do own an average of two. (theesa.com, 2014). The facts speak for themselves: video games have become a significant part of our culture today, and can also be seen internationally. I personally worked for gaming retailer GameStop for almost 8 years, and utilizing that knowledge base, I intend to be a part of the growing industry. However, it is important to understand that the past time so many enjoy can have adverse effects, as legal battles over the violent content of games have attempted to argue. It was an artwork to be considered as the first radical approach in expressing visual reality. According to Cubist, any perception of an object was a composite of simultaneous and different perspectives. Cubism tries to help one understand the world around them in a different way by changing their perspective on a certain subject. It is an approach of art where a painter takes a real life object and changes it in a completely different way to the way he or she views it in there mind and how they perceive it. • 23. Assignment On Capstone Research Project Essay Assignment 3: Capstone Research Project Write Down Inventory The concept of write down inventory states that the value of inventory should appear in financial statements only if it has some value, which is equal to the difference between the current market replacement value and the original inventory cost. IAS 2 stipulates that loss on write down inventory if small should be reported as part of the cost of goods sold and if huge, it should be reported on a separate line on the income statement. It thus follows that exclusion of write down inventory may lead to investor overestimation of earnings persistence thereby leading to ethical and financial implications. The ethical issues include loss of brand value and goodwill, concealment of fraud penalties, and loss of shareholder and investor confidence while financial implications may include excessive compensation of the management. It would be advisable for both the CFO and CEO of the company to consider negative assessment by the IRS since the company used write down inventory to reduce its taxable income. The amount is inaccurate and is evidently used for tax purposes and was not included in the income statement as stipulated. The IRS thus would be compelled to contact the fraud technical advisor and the front line manager to ascertain the length of such an activity and thereby claim the tax payable in addition to fraud charges. There are physical, manipulative, and figurative disguises. In the beginning of the play, characters already fall into this category. In the first act, King Lear is at old age and begins to think irrationally and illogically. He wishes to live the rest of his life in tranquility, deprived of any further responsibilities of ruling the kingdom. Deciding to distribute his kingdom between his three daughters, King Lear challenges them to a game of flattery. This leads to Cordelia, his youngest and most beloved daughter being disowned and Kent, his trusted advisor and good friend banished from the kingdom. The Earl of Gloucester is left baffled and discusses it with his illegitimate son, Edmund, who hands his father a forged letter. • 25. Identification And Identification Identification has two elements most people know and focus on the first; most companies are notoriously poor at the second. The first Identification element is, not surprisingly, to understand the characteristics of potential and current customers, as well as their influencers. This means delving into what needs they have, what motivates those needs, how they want those needs solved, and who else influences those needs and potential solutions. It also means looking beyond those presenting symptoms to the underlying problem that needs to be solved (even if the customer themselves doesn t recognize it). For example, many people will say that the need to own a car when what they actually need is transportation. And that broader need can be solved in many ways other than owning a car (bus, bike, taxi, Uber). The second Identification element described by Peppers and Rogers is to, link information about that customer across the company and throughout the duration of the customer s relationship with the firm. This is where I would argue that most companies have a long way to go to be successful. For example, the first step when calling many companies is to enter your customer ID/Social Security number/whatever on the telephone keypad . . . and then the first thing the person who (eventually!) answers the phone does is to ask you for the information you just entered! In spite of what painters, archeologists, or researchers of the nineteenth century believed about the ancient world, cuneiform has since proven its historical mettle. As displayed by Darius and his memorial at Bisitun, the early, crude cuneiform of 5000 B.C.E. adapted itself to culture after culture, and morphed into the dusty forerunner of our modern alphabet. The Phoenicians, the original ancient mariners, are responsible for transforming cuneiform into a more efficient writing system by paring down the somewhat ungainly number of 5,000 cuneiform characters into 29 characters. Adopted around 1000 B.C.E., the Phoenician alphabet was not a collection of pictographs like many early forms of writing, but instead a close relative of many modern writing systems.11 The sophisticated navy and extensive trade network of Phoenicia ensured that this new version of cuneiform would quickly spread to its ancient neighbors. Phoenicia s alphabet would soon be adopted by the Greeks, who also refined and perfected this writing system to meet their own needs; likewise the Romans, eager inheritors of all things Greek, adopted the alphabet for their own use. It could be said that the highly adaptive descendants of cuneiform formed the basis for the literature of the Classical world. In one of Shakespeare s famous works The Merchant of Venice, there is sexism prevalent throughout these characters actions and interactions. Shakespeare s writing may have been influenced by his era with sexism influencing scenes like the trial and the lottery of the caskets. The first thing one should consider while analyzing Shakespeare s writing is the social norms of his time. As any writer most likely is Shakespeare s plays and other writings including the work The Merchant of Venice are influenced by the world he lives in. This is a time where patriarchal views were the only ones heard. Although the female characters in the play may have more agency Shakespeare writes these witty and willed women to be submissive to these men. To give historical context the essay Women According to Men: The World of Tudor Stuart Women by Suzanne W. Hull put very well the existence of women in the Renaissance era. When England was ruled for half a century by Queens but women had almost no legal power; When marriage, a woman s main vocation, cost them their personal property rights; when the ideal woman was rarely seen and never heard in public; when the clothes a women wore were legally dictated by her social class; when almost all school teachers were men; when medicine was prepared and purified at home; when corsets were constructed of wood and cosmetics made of bacon and eggs; when only half of all babies survived to adulthood? (Hull 15). As this passage illustrates the role of women was a very scarce role. They were supposed to only be seen and never heard. Women were expected to always be prim and proper. Upper class women were able to speak their minds but their ideas and thoughts were shaped by men. A woman could not do or think much without input given by men. A woman was controlled by her father from the day she is born until the day she is married, from which she would then be handed directly to a husband to control her in that role. Women legally belonged to their husbands during the Renaissance. Women were always expected to be to be devoted housewives. These ideas, although it may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Family is a term that has changed over time; as a result the traditional definition of family is inadequate, and limited to describe the modern version of the term. Our society tends to attach itself to the traditional conceptualization of family better know as a nuclear family which includes a set of parents, and their biological offspring (Kompara). In America, known as a melting pot of all cultures and races, there are many implications for the word family thus there is no such thing as a traditional family. • 37. The Process Of Making And Changing Laws Varies Throughout... Mid Term #2 Prompt 1 The process of making and changing laws varies throughout regions, cultures and religions. This trend applies to all religions, no matter how similar they may appear. Take for example, Catholicism and Judaism; religions that share common traits in beliefs, customs and law. These similarities may lead people to believe their legal process of legal change is also cognate, but that is not the case. Although their process of legal change may appear as similar, the key differences are highlighted through the legislators and the necessity of deriving law from an authoritative text. The factors that affect these differences relate to the structure of the organization, the governing body, and the purpose behind the creation of religious law in each system. Judaism s and Catholicism s legal process are alike in many different ways. For example, although rabbinic responsa and papal decretals seem completely different in definition, they share common characteristics. Responsa is defined as the answers to questions submitted by someone having communal authority to someone having greater communal authority ( Law and religion in Judaism , 46) The community asks questions regarding law, and the rabbis, an authoritative source, reply with a binding answer. On the other hand, papal decretals are laws and rules issued by the pope. The denotation of these processes sound completely different, but their similarity lies in the nature of papal decretals. Having developed orally, the story differs based on sources, but the main narrative stays the same. The story can be broken up into two parts. The beginning is the oral myth that starts with Jason when he was a baby and tells the story of his journey on the Argos, quest for power, marriage to Medea, betrayal of his wife, and, eventually, his death. Secondly, the play Euripides wrote, Medea, picks up near the end of the story, after Jason has already betrayed Medea. I used it to highlight my better features. It was a form of expression that I was able to apply on myself and present to everyone else. Wearing make up also gave me confidence. Along with giving me confidence, it also helped me to approach others. Make up covered the flaws that I saw on my face, which made me feel more comfortable knowing that people would not be staring at my pimples or eye bags. Those who are fond of using make up probably know how I feel. A person wearing make up can affect the way they feel, but can their make up affect others around them? What are their first impressions of those who wear make up? What are their impressions of those who wear make up daily and suddenly saw them without it? Wearing a beauty product that can change the way a person looks, might also change the way others look at that person. • 40. Pocket Issue Of Pocket Medical Costs Introduction Out of pocket medical costs continue to cause debate in the U.S. Out of pocket costs consist of insurance premiums, co payments, co insurance, and unsubsidized care costs. Researchers suggest that out of pocket medical expenses have tripled for the average American family since 2001(Girod, 2016). Other studies indicate that the growth rate of these costs is double the annual income rate for U.S. individuals and families. Still, some argue that out of pocket medical costs are appropriate considering healthcare utilization (Cutler, 2004). This paper addresses the arguments supporting and refuting the stance that out of pocket medical expenses are too high. Why out of pocket costs are too high Insurance purchased through federal marketplace exchanges contain high deductibles and high co pays, causing high out of pocket costs. The introduction of insurance exchanges, coupled with the financial penalties of the individual mandate, added approximately 11 million individuals and families to the healthcare market place (Sun, 2016). The exchanges allow individuals to shop for insurance plans that contain varying levels of coverage. Although these plans cover preventive services, they do not protect against out of pocket costs. Research suggests that copay amounts under exchange plans are 20% higher than those of employer sponsored plans. Furthermore, studies show that deductible amounts for some exchange plans are five times greater than for employer sponsored plans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft and Rights of Woman by Anna Barbauld are two works that discuss the idea of women s rights. In many ways, the two works greatly relate to one another and the authors seem to believe in the same values, but they find ways that are both alike and different to portray their message of women s equality. By emphasizing fascinating graces, she is mocking the norm expectation of how women were supposed to act during that time period. On the other hand, in Barbauld s poem, she mentions women s graces to their advantage. Go, gird thyself with grace; collect thy store Of bright artillery glancing from afar; Soft melting tones thy thundering cannon s roar, Blushes and fears thy magazine of war. • 44. Michel Foucault s Theory Of Surveillance Surveillance One of my former teachers, Michael Gedville, it s not what you do when people are watching, but what you do when others aren t watching. This quote reminds me about Michel Foucault, who was a French social theorist. He was a physiologist that had a different perspective than the original physiologist. Foucault would go astray from the normal path of thinking and try new ideas. One example is Foucault s perspective on societal surveillance. This emerged in the West after about 1600 as a means of reforming malefactors and shaping the actions of all members of society. Foucault believed surveillance emerged as a means to change human behavior, and many contemporary surveillance technologies reflect this larger social function of ensuring that the rules of proper conduct and behavior are internalized by members of society. Ruptures and discontinuity in the 1800s gave way to the development and need for surveillance. Author Michel Foucault addresses this when he explains the transition from physical punishment to a mental or soul punishment; this change happened because crimes started to change thus, criminals become smarter. Civil authority wanted to rehabilitate and prevent more criminals rather than killing them, therefore, the prison was born. With the birth of the prison lead to the birth of surveille. Surveillance is not only used to monitor those that committed a crime, but those that might not. Therefore, preventing crime in the first place and reducing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(O Brien Williams 2013,212) Taking gender into the account while observing global economy shows that men and women are impacted in various ways considering trade, production and financial flows. (O Brien Williams 2013,212) The term feminization of poverty originates from about 1970s debates in United States, which was focused on welfare and single mothers. The waltz is a metaphor that represents the relationship the boy has with his father. Although the poem may seem like a happy and sweet story of a father and son dancing in the kitchen there are also some darker underlying tones. The speaker, who is the young boy, is directing theses words towards his father, but does not actually express them directly to the father, instead the speaker is just reflecting upon them in his head. In the first stanza of the first line the reader finds out the father has been drinking, a lot, so much that his son also feels dazed from the alcohol on the fathers breath. Also the boy, hung on like death (3) this is a simile, meaning that he is hanging on tightly even though it may be hard. In the same line the speaker uses the word death this makes the poem feel a little somber and not very happy. At the end of the stanza in line four we find out that the boy was having difficulties waltzing with the father, the dancing they were doing was awkward for the young boy because the father was inebriated and loose from the drinking. Since the waltz represents the relationship they hold, this could very likely mean that it is not easy to be with his father every so often. Dancing with the father was not a quiet and graceful moment, but the young boy seems to accept it. In the second stanza we find out they are doing more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
