Social Civilization In Korea
The Japanese colonization of Korea made Koreans an easy target of exploitation. Since Japan
was in a great need of cheap labor, Korean workers were recruited during 1920s. In this essay, I
am going to discuss the significance of institutional racial discrimination targeted towards Korean
workers in interwar Japan as a tool of alienation and exploitation. One of the abiding discernments
formed in Karl Marxs Capital is that in the colonies of capitalist nation states the apparitions of the
law of the supply and demandof labor are crushed. In the home country, the magnificent allurement
of capitalist production can be found in its capability to reproduce the wage laborer by regularly
setting him or her free, firing him or her and by creating a surplus population that rests in
approximate exteriority to capitalist manufacturing as the prerequisite for the commodification of
labor power. Regularly handling labor power as a expendable commodity is hence the way
capitalist manufacturing can assure that its most nonexpendable commodity labor power is
constantly there by the time capitalist manufacturing encounters so called labor shortages during
industrial expansion. It is this reproductive apparatus that enables the smug knavery of the
Japanese colonial policymaker to envision and to formalize into normalized principles of
economic shift, that owners of labor power who are de facto impelled to enter into a relationship
of reliance with the wage form can take part in

Boys and Girls by Alice Munro
Society tries to place many rules upon an individual as to what is acceptable and what is not .
One must decide for themselves whether to give in to these pressures and conform to society s
projected image, or rather to resist and maintain their own desired self image. In the story Boys
and Girls by Alice Munro, Munro suggests that this conflict is internal and external and a persons
experiences in life will determine which of these forces will conquer. In terms of the unnamed
protagonist s experiences in the story, it becomes clear just how strong the pressure of society to
conform really is, as it overcomes and replaces the girls self image.
In order to better understand the conflict, first we must define what conformity and self ... Show

Although seemingly unimportant to the storyline, the presence of the foxes and horses play a
major role in the story, as they symbolize the sides of the conflict between conformity and self
image. The foxes represent conformity; they all live in the same routine, are controlled by others
in their environment, and are both literally and metaphorically locked in a cage. The narrator s
environment is much like the foxes, controlling. Her parent s subtle hints, whether it be her mother
s comments or her father s tasks, are slowly but surely enclosing on her like a cage, and will soon
trap her.
The horses however, try as hard as they can, much like the narrator, to roam free for as long as
possible, seemingly unaware of the forces acting against them in an attempt to deny them their
freedom. For the horses, this force was the narrator s father, who felt that they had a purpose to
be served, in the narrator s case, it was her mother s thought that she had a place to be served as
well; inside the home. In the case of the foxes and horses, neither win, as they both die in the end,
much like people. However, although the horse s lives end much sooner, they get to experience
something that the foxes do not, and that is freedom. The protagonist s desire for freedom is
clearly desirable as she expresses her resistance to conform to societies ideals by continuing to do
things against the norm, thinking that by such measures [she] kept

The Labor Force since the First Industrial Revolution Essays
Labor Force During the first Industrial Revolution, many social standards of the community were
starting to change. Since there were new spinning and weaving machines available, the textile mill
factories were built to increase their profit. The people who established these mills hired children
and women to decrease their labor cost by paying them low wages and having poor working
conditions for them as well. The Labor force impacted American culture through various means
such as the child labor conditions, women in the factories, and the immigrants working in the
factories. The labor conditions that children faced were very demanding for a human being from
such a small age. For example In the Manayunk district of Philadelphia,... Show more content on

Lowell provided girls with work, supervised housing, and regular pay for a few years. This was a
dramatic change for these girls because they moved into dorms in the city, while leaving their
families back home. These girls still receive low pay for long hours of work. By the 1830s
women made up approximately 80% of the textile mill work force in America (103). Women s
involvement in the workforce proves that they could also earn an income just like men. The
women working in the factories were beginning to realize that they also had an influence in the
workforce and it changed their viewpoint of what they were capable of doing. Factories brought
many opportunities for people to immigrate to the United States, since the factories needed a lot
of workers who would work for a low pay. The immigrants that came were German, Irish, British,
Scandinavian, and Polish workers, whom would work for even the minimum pay (Wyatt 104).
American s had to learn to socialize with the immigrants since they now lived in their communities
giving them a new perspective. The labor force in one factory in Massachusetts changed from
being just 4% immigrant labor in the mid 1820s to more than 50% two decades later (104). This
was a huge change in the number of immigrants working in the factories which meant that more of
them were living the American s communities as well. Unlike the 17th

Dropping the Mic (A Remembered Event)
Weddings are a powerfully special time, and in the lead up to the pronouncement by the minister of
the unbreakable binds of the newly married couple, and their presentation to the congregation there
are many twists and turns where the parents of the new couple must appears with an abundance of
humor, and more then a little patience.
My first experience with my getting my first two daughters married was one of those moments in

Seventeen years later, all of my older children were lined up at the front of the church, with the
minister in the middle, along with the siblings of their soon to be husbands. My oldest daughters
wanted to get married at the same time, and no amount of fatherly persuasion could convince them
otherwise, so I walked both of them down the aisle at the same time, one on the right arm, and the
other on the left. My younger children carried and threw flower petals, or carried the rings, and
other ceremonial portions of the service.
More than anything, I was simply praying that my daughters would be serious enough not to pull
any pranks during the service, or for one of them to catch fire during the service as one of the men
of honor had done the night of dress rehearsals when he backed into a lit candle and his mullet
ignited.
Our minister knew these two girls, plus their 12 other biological siblings, and the half dozen other
adopted children my wife and I raised, and at times buried. The minister who performed their
dedication in infancy was also the same one who was about to perform the marriage, and he knew
my kids penchant for creative mischief, but all of them had sworn to be on their best behavior and
all of them of course promised that there would be no pranks at their own weddings.
The two oldest had a track record, a very long and hard to explain track record, but they were
creative,

Operant Conditioning And Social Learning
When I was in my psychology class in high school, we spent a month talking about classical
conditioning and we did many interesting experiments involving it. We also touched on operant
conditioning and social learning, so I have some background knowledge in this subject. Classical
and operant conditioning, along with social learning, are all ways to teach animals or humans how
to behave. These theories developed because psychologists wanted to understand why people
behave the way they do and many famous experiments have been conducted to answer this
question. It was very interesting to learn more about these theories and how they work, and relating
them to my own personal experiences.
Classical conditioning is when a person or animal associates two stimuli and creates a ... Show more

The dogs would start to salivate just by hearing the bell ringing, which normally would not produce
this response. The first part of the process involves an unconditioned response, like blinking or
salivating. The next part needed for classical conditioning is an unconditioned stimulus. The
unconditioned stimulus is one that automatically produces the unconditioned response, such as the
smell of food triggering salivation. During conditioning, the neutral stimulus, like the bell in Pavlov
s case, is repeatedly paired with the unconditioned stimulus, or the meat powder. After a while, the
neutral stimulus becomes the conditioned stimulus. The conditioned stimulus then produces a
conditioned response, since the subject of the experiment has associated the conditioned stimulus
with the unconditioned response. Many interesting experiments have been conducted using
classical conditioning. Another scientist that preformed an experiment with classical conditioning
is John B. Watson. Watson used classical conditioned to make a young boy fear white fluffy
objects. He scared the child by making loud noises every time the child was presented a white rat.

App. 1986). The defendant in Felix pressed a nasal inhaler against his victim s back, declaring
that he had a gun. Based on what he felt, the victim perceived that a gun was pressed against his
back. Id. On these facts, the court had no difficulty in finding that the defendant had simulated a
deadly weapon. Id. In another decision focusing on the victim s perception, the court upheld the
armed robbery conviction of a man who used his hand under his clothing to simulate a gun during
a robbery. State v. Ellison, 819 P.2d 1010, 1013 (Ariz. App. 1991). The court found it significant
that the defendant simulated a weapon with his hand, observing that [t]he victim s perception is
the same whether the weapon appears to be or is in fact real. Id. at 1012. In the court s view, the
defendant s act posed the same potential for harm to or reaction from the victim and any bystanders.
Id. at 1013. Because the victims in Ellison could reasonably have believed that the shape they saw
under the defendant s clothing was a gun, rather than his hand, the defendant created the life
threatening environment which the armed robbery statute seeks to punish. The court distinguished
this case from Rodriguez by noting that in Rodriguez, the victim never saw anything resembling a
weapon; the defendant only implied that she had a gun when she threatened to shoot the smile off
the victim s face. Id. at 1012 (citing Rodriguez, 791 P.2d at 633). While

Old Age Security And Modern Welfare System
Old age security has long since become a basic building block in any modern welfare system.
Likewise it has long since become a standard element in the battery of expectations held and shared
by citizens towards society. Pension systems are the vehicles by which these expectations are
catered for. Their effectiveness and reliability are extremely important to individuals as well as
societies. [] As reported by the Public Health England (PHE), individuals in the UK are expected to
live longer than before the population of the UK is ageing. Men can now expect to live for a
further 19 years at age 65, 12 years at 75, 6 years at 85 and 3 years at 95 Women can expect to live
for a further 21 years at age 65, 13 years at 75, 7 years at 85, and 3 years at 95 With 10 million
people above the age of 65 years due to rise by approximately 5.5 million by 2020 and a further 19
million by 2050 according to census in 2010 by the UK government.[] This poses a challenge as it
is reported that 55%, ВЈ114bn in 2014/15, of the welfare spending is paid out to pensioners.[] As
seen in the chart above, it is due to further increase and will put more pressure on the public
finances finances whose strain will fall on the shoulders of small working age population. This
poses a challenge not only for the government, but also for the individuals as: 1.It poses a challenge
to forecast future lifetime of individuals and 2.Subsequently it is challenging to have sufficient

In the beginning of the book, Siddhartha has a sudden realization that the traditional teachings of
the Brahmins does not fulfill or help him in his quest for enlightenment, He had begun to surmise
that his venerable father and his other teachers, that these wise Brahmins had already conveyed the
majority and the best part of their wisdom, that they had already poured out their plenty into his
waiting vessel, and the vessel was not full, the mind was not satisfied, the soul was not calm, the
heart was not stilled (6 7). Despite his upbringings, he begins to stray away from the traditions and
the expectations that both society and his father has for him. As a Brahmin, Siddharthais part of a
caste that is highly prestigious in the Hindu society and they are known for their intellect.
Siddhartha was expected to become a priest and the follow the footsteps of his honorable father.
However, he begins to nurture his own feelings which were not satisfied. The traditional teachings
of the Brahmins seem so rigid and practiced. His feelings are analogous to a vessel , which is not

the boys came up to us to ask us questions. Afterwards we split up and played pool and cards with

There is perfect correspondence between the retinal image and the cellular encoding in V1
(striate cortex), which is completed in terms of contrast and orientation. From there, information
from the retinal image is sent forward to distinct regions of the occipital lobe for more complex
encoding, called extra striate cortex, including V2 (discrimination, orientation, and color), V4
(shape), and V5 (motion) (Stevens PH.D., livestong.com) The parietal lobe is the dorsal part of
the brain. The sensory cortex is located in this section where sensation and perception is
integrated. This lobe is most commonly associated with its capacity for spatial processing. It is
here that external visual, or environment based, coordinates may be translated into internal, or
body based, coordinates and vice versa. (Stephens PH.D, livestrong.com) The Temporal lobe
located at the bottom of the brain is used to process visual information. In the temporal lobe there
is an area for language comprehension and the auditory cortex processes sound. This lobe helps
with processes related to recognition and associative memory. The Frontal lobe holds a very high
position in the brain and is located directly in the front of the brain. This lobe conducts the entire

Important Measurement For A Clinical Assessment Of A...
Vital signs are an important measurement for a general assessment of a patient s overall
cardiovascular risk. The use of vitals signs should be regularly incorporated in the practice of
physical therapy like other settings of the health care as a pre screening measure. Vital sign
assessment provides invaluable information to determine if the patient s health is appropriate for
physical activity or if the patient needs to be further assessed for cardiovascular health by referral
to a specialist. Cardiovascular disease(CVD) is known to be one of the top causes of deaths, with
an approximate two out of three deaths resulting from CVD happening as condition outside of a
hospital. The high rate of CVD continually is present as a health risk for mortality, according to the
World Health Organization. Many times mortality from CVD happens without any preceding
symptoms. There is an apparent need to screen patients prone to an increased risk of a CVD with
the frequent rate of occurrence for a cardiovascular accident (CVA). The benefit of vital sign
screenings overall promote an optimal wellness prevention of disease and the best treatment
standards within the physical therapy practice (Lin, Zhang, Zhang, 2013).
Importance of Vitals Sign Monitoring Vital signs that are commonly used for the assessment of a
patient s health include pulse rate, respiration rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
Assessment of the pulse rate is for measurement of the rhythm and circulation of

Effects of Outsourcing
What is outsourcing? We have all heard the term thrown around but what does it really mean?
Outsourcing is defined as contracting, sub contracting, or externalizing non core activities to free
up cash, personnel, time, and facilities for activities where the firm holds competitive
advantage(BD,09).Outsourcinghappens when company s choose to purchases their needed products
and or services from an outside supplier ( mainly other countries), rather than doing the same work
within their own facilities.
Why companies outsource.
The main reason companies outsource is because it saves them money. Many different types of jobs
are outsourced, IT, telecommunications, auto manufacturers, physicians and so on. Outsourcing by

Everyone in this America knew that not only had this particular airline close, but so had three
others in a matter of a couple of weeks. But when I called my credit card company the man on
the other end of the phone had no idea of what I was talking about. He even tried to argue with
me about the situation. I then realized that this person wasn t in America and when I asked him
where he was located he quickly told me that I needed to write a letter and send it to the address
on the back of the card and disconnected the call. I was upset about my travel plans being
canceled but I was even more upset that I had to deal with all of that mess. After all of that I
cancelled the credit card and when they asked why I explained to them that I didn t agree with their
employment decisions. I realize that me cancelling my credit card isn t going to change the way
that particular business is done, but I felt better about it. Outsourcing causes consumer frustration
and disappointment. It is shameful for American companies to turn their backs on the American
worker just to save a little money.
How can outsourcing be stopped?
Many people insist that there are no clear cut ways to stop the issue of outsourcing, while some
people offer up ideas on how company s could still keep the majority of their work in America
while still outsourcing. Outsourcing has become the wise thing to do in business now days and
with these economic times, it is only going to

Analysis Of Native Son By Richard Wright
In Native Son, Richard Wright shines a light on the harsh reality a young African American
male faces, as a result of the unhealthy stereotypes created by a white dominated society.
Richard Wright was born in 1908, in Natchez, Mississippi. His mother s chronic illness set the
tone emotionally, in his life and writing. His grandmother practiced evangelism. The prayers
daily, up to half a dozen. Although Wright s food was already limited, his grandmother applied
further dietary restrictions. Not only was he malnourished, he was also beaten throughout his
childhood. Wright s grandmother also did not allow him to participate in any form of
entertainment or games. Whether it be a game of baseball or a board game, he was not allowed
to partake in such activities. Wright did not have a proper education because of his constant
moving back and forth from relative to relative. His schooling was broken. However, he did
graduate from ninth grade at the age of sixteen. Violence and hunger were his childhood
memories. Which made him bitter, leading him to join the communist party later in his lifetime.
Wright s majority of significant life events occurred in Mississippi, Chicago, New York and Paris
(Bone 1). In 1927, Wright along with his family moved to Chicago, where he worked several jobs.
During the depression, he was unemployed and placed in the South Sided Boys Club, by a relief

Everyone Should Be Required To Participate While Attending...
Do you think it should be required for people to participate in some sort of physical education
while attending school? The question, over the years has been quite a hot bed for discussion and
i will dig down the rabbit hole to provide my reasons why i believe not everyone should be
required to participate, if they don t want to in physical education.
Throughout my childhood, i was always a very avid sports fan, which in turn made me always
very active. Constantly taking to the field or the diamond to recreate my favorite sports hero
moments, or maybe just to blow some steam off and throw a ball around for a while. To me this
was all very serene and tranquil. Something to remove me from the day to day school and life

3) Confidence issues, being too nervous or afraid to participate out of fear of failure. As I ve
stated before, some people have certain restrictions that prevent them from either physically
being able or emotionally feeling confident enough to join in. Some people are perfectly content
learning about the field, but would rather not participate and that s OK with me. Who are we to
judge anyone? Triumph is in the hands of the beholder, if said person chooses to become
physically active, they can do so on their own regard. In closing, i believe people should not be

Many struggles but I believe if you I work hard, it will paid off in the future. Logic or Intuition
Decisions are important and hard to make. People maybe decide quickly without thinking about
the consequences but on the other half, they will think about it back and forth then they will
reply. Christopher makes his point that people rely on their intuition so much, but I m kindly
disagree with him because it usually based on the ages. As people get older, they become more
aware of they re doing. Intuition usually evolves in easy decision, without any reasons they just
decide as quickly as possible to get out of that problem. I can t say which one people rely on
more because they are different and they solve the problem with their way. Did I used mostly
logic or intuition to make the decision? My answer is I used mostly logic to decide something. I
feel like to have the comfortable feeling, I should think back and forth, then use reasons so I don
t have to hold any consequences later. The way I solve the problem should comfortable others
too because I don t want anyone get in trouble. One time, I had to decide the money I have left,
should I buy my favorite shoes or birthday gift for my friend then I decided to buy birthday gift
because shoes I can buy at anytime but my friend s birthday happens only once a year; so I want
to put my selfish aside and make everyone is happy. Your own selfish will make you move to the

Leon Trotsky, a Leader of the Bolshevik Revolution and...
Most historians agree that throughout his political career Trotsky displayed various talents and
abilities. However, these skills alone were not enough to enable him to become the supreme
leader of the USSR. In the context of the workings of the Bolshevik party to rise to the highest
office of the politburo required certain traits and qualities as well as an ability to utilise the party
machine and exploit its members talents, traits and qualities Trotsky clearly lacked. For these
reasons the statement is highly accurate because in spite of his ability, Trotsky s failure to rise to
the highest office in the land was a consequence of his arrogance, political naivety and inability to
turn success into political capital.
This statement is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the many roles that Trotsky undertook in his political career, notably Commissar
for War prove that Trotsky was most definitely the most able of men . According to Service,
Trotsky as Commissar for War surprised everyone with his organisational capacity and
ruthlessness as he transformed the Red Army into a fighting force . During his role as
commissar Trotsky was able to increase the size of the Red army to three million, introduced
conscription, maintained obedience and discipline by enforcing the oath of the red warrior and
the death penalty for deserters and used ex Tsarist officers to assist in the organisation of the army.
Trotsky s ability to successfully transform the Red Army and the significant role he played in Civil
War are largely the reason for the Bolshevik victory and further highlight that Trotsky was the most
able of men .
However, despite his ability Trotsky was not able to rise to the highest office in the Land, as he
lack political motivation, the personality traits required and a utilisation of the party apparatus.
Trotsky despite his talents and status as a communist leader was disliked by his peers. His
arrogance, condescension and perceived intellectual superiority alienated many of members of the
politburo. If in an address that bored Trotsky he was known to have openly read a novel instead.
Lenin himself raised concerns regarding the assured arrogance of Trotsky in his last testament
writing that he is perhaps the most capable

While immigration has played an important role in the building
and formation of America, new federal laws have resulted in mass

The Effect Of Exercise On Pain Perception
The role of exercise in pain perception has been widely researched for over a number of years as
Koltyn (2000) found research had been taking place for more than twenty years. Previous studies
have identified the significance of exercise in the treatment and rehabilitation for many patients
with chronic pain(Naugle, Fillingham, Riley, 2012). According to IASP Taxonomy, International
Association for the Study of Pain, hypoalgesia is diminished pain in response to a normally painful
stimulus (Merskey, Bogduk, 2011). It was suggested that further examination was required to
develop an understanding of hypoalgesic responses following different modes of exercise (Koltyn,

The participants were Biopsychology students attending Charles Sturt University, 12 females, aged
between 18 and 25 years, (M = 20 years, SD = 2 years) and 7 males, aged between 18 and 23 years

Materials
The materials required to complete this experiment were two bowls, ice water, two thermometers

Procedure
Each participant was provided with instructions on how the experiment was to proceed. This
included the placing of their left hand into a bowl of cold water. The reason given for this was so
that the examiners could investigate the length of time that they could keep their hand in the
water before it was aversive but able to be tolerated. The second part of this was to find out the
length of time that they could keep their hand in the water before it was too aversive to tolerate.
The participants were told to immediately remove their hand at this point. To discover if exercise

Comparision of the tragic characters in Othello and King...
The Greek philosopher Aristotle set forth the guidelines for a tragedy in his work Poetics.
According to Aristotle, the tragic character in a tragedy is a person, not all good or bad, who
begins in a rank of high degree and importance and then experiences a downfall due to a tragic
flaw. In the end of most tragedies, the character comes to a realization of his flaw after enduring a
great deal of suffering. William Shakespeare, an English playwright of the 17th century, composed
many tragedies, including King Lear and Othello, which exemplified the characteristics of a tragic
herooutlined by Aristotle. The main characters in King Lear and Othello share many of the traits
essential to tragic characters, yet they differ in their specific... Show more content on

The pride held by Othello and Lear leads to further pride in others. They gain a sense that others
would have no reason to do them harm which leads them both to deceit and poor judgment.
Because Othello thinks highly of himself, he believes others will do the same; his open and
trusting nature allows Iago to take advantage of him. Othello is constantly referring to Iago as
Honest Iago and entrusting him with important duties, such as attending to his wife when he leaves
for Cyprus. Iago scoffs at Othello s trust in him and shows intention of deceit:
The Moor is of a free and open nature,
That thinks men honest that but seem to be so,
And will as tenderly be led by the nose
As asses are. (Othello, I.iii.442 445)
Iago insults Othello by comparing him to a submissive donkey, and he displays an intent of
deceiving Othello in this simile. Lear s pride, like Othello s, causes him to trust others who plan on
deceiving him. Two of his daughters, Goneril and Regan, gain Lear s trust through their flattering
formalistic love speeches by playing into his pride and boosting his self image. Lear is
unsuspecting of the daughters plot against him, and the two go on to take advantage of their father
s poor judgment. Lear trustingly divides his kingdom between them, giving up his power and
entrusting his well being into the hands of these malicious characters. Goneril

Descriptive Essay On Drinking In School
Morning Routine Beep, beep, beep. Once I have heard that for the third time I finally drag myself
out of bed, and when I do, there is a flurry of events that happen before I get myself to school. The
events that take place on a day to day basis are showering, getting dressed, fixing my hair, eating
breakfast, doing leftover homework, and brushing my teeth. Mentioned above, the first thing I do
after getting out of bed is take a shower. The right way to take a shower is with lukewarm or cold
water because scalding water is bad for your skin and it also hurts. After I ve gotten in the
shower, I wet my hair down, and then get a quarter sized amount of shampoo. From there, I
lightly rub my hands together for five seconds; then, I gently scrub my scalp with shampoo
covered hands. After I completely cover my entire scalp in the shampoo lather, I tilt my head
forward and rinse the shampoo out of my hair. After the shampooing, I squeeze out a quarter
sized amount of conditioner onto my hands. Then, I spread the conditioner evenly in both of my
hands, and then lightly work the conditioner all over my scalp, like the shampoo. Although the
label on conditioners say to leave it in for a few minutes, it doesn t make a difference, so once I

Drink spiking occurs when a person deliberately adds alcohol or another drug to a drink without
the knowledge of the person who will be drinking it. This means the person could become
intoxicated unexpectedly. Drinks are spiked for a number of reasons. These include amusement
or to facilitate sexual assault, rape or theft (Lievore). The couple was facing an eviction from
their landlord regarding loud noises and chaos caused on a weekend night. The couple had no
idea about the scene they caused and woke up to a complete blur. I had bruises and cuts on my
body. Everything was upside down, clothes were outside of cupboards, pictures had been thrown
on the floor. The fiancГ© who experienced identical memory gaps, was asked by his landlord to
leave the apartment because of what he feared to assume was a domestic violence case. Sexual
assault is also commonly linked with drink spiking. Estimates suggest that one third of drink
spiking incidents are associated with a sexual attack (Lievore). This couple was at a local bar on
the Gold Coast called Waxy s. They believed that their drinks were spiked and took tests to find out
for sure. The blood tests confirmed that they had been drugged and showed that they both tested
positive to methamphetamine and tranquillizer benzodiazepines. The landlord then let the couple
stay trusting that something like this would not happen again. Chances are the couple was drugged
to either sexually assault the female, or to violently assault the male. Crime is evidently a problem
on the Gold Coast. About a week before this incident the Gold Coast paramedics were called to a
large spate of drug overdoses and incidents involving 21 people who had taken synthetic
hallucinogen called N Bomb (Womens weekly). The Gold Coast most categorically faces a

Self Defense Training And Traditional Martial Arts Essay
Title
Self Defense Training and Traditional Martial Arts: Influences on Self Efficacy and Fear Related to
Sexual Victimization
Authors
Kimberly Ball, Instructor at Oakland Community College
Jeffrey Martin, Professor at Wayne State University
Hypothesis
The purpose of this study was to examine if traditional martial arts (TMA) and modern self defense
training (MSDT), relative to a stress management comparison program, were equally effective in
altering both multidimensional self efficacy and fear in relation to sexual victimization (Ball and
Martin, 2011, p. 1). Do these type of actions reflect on one s self esteem and stress levels? Do they
also help out during any type of sexual confrontation? These are the rhetorical questions are trying
to be answered in this research experiment.
Method
Many people have experienced a type of sexual assault, whether it is rape or being inappropriately
touched in private places. Most of these people are the women in our society. Many times when
these incidents happen, women look for different ways to protect themselves from the sexual
assaults and eventually look to prevent those incidents from ever happening again. Some women
look for different self defense training programs in their modern day lives and some look to a more
physical protection program, such as martial arts. There hasn t been any recent studies that have
compared the two programs together to see which one is actually effective in those sexual assault
incidents. Bell and

The Two Components Of Blood Pressure
1.The two constituents of blood pressure are systolic pressure and diastolic pressure; the highest
and lowest pressure readings during ventricular systole and diastole, respectively. Pulse pressure is
the difference between these two readings and represents the blood being pushed into the aorta
from the left ventricle. However, a bloodpressure value can be given as an average pressure in the
arteries which forces the flow of blood from the heart. This value is the mean arterial pressure
(MAP). Cardiac output (CO) and Total Peripheral Resistance (TPR) are the physiological
determinants of MAP. CO is the volume of blood pumped by one ventricle in a given period of
time (Silverthorn, 2007). It is determined by the heart rate (HR), which is the number of beats per
minute, and the stroke volume (SV), which is the volume of blood pumped by a ventricle during a
contraction. Venous return is the volume of blood with returns to the heart via the vena cava. With
reference to the Frank Starling relationship, if CO increases, venous return should also increase,
however changes in vasoconstriction can affect the venous return, thus effecting MAP. According
to Poiseuille s Law, the radius of the arterioles directly impacts the resistance of blood flow to
peripheral circulation, which is termed TPR. Blood volume also impacts the MAP. A larger blood
volume will exert more pressure on the arterioles and therefore increase blood pressure.
Furthermore, the kidneys can filter the blood

Tale Of Two Cities Passage Analysis Essay
The passage, Carton s depression , takes place at the end of Book Two Chapter 5 in the book A
Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens. While they were talking about their day, Stryver
mentions in front of Carton how he is up one minute and down the other minute showing how he
has very easy mood changes. This is taking place 5 years after Darnay was on his trial. He was
saved by Sydney Carton. This passage literally explains Carton s feelings after the trial. Carton is
basically contemplating his life. The main function of the passage is to enhance the depth of
Cartons character as well as how he relates to Darnay. This basically explains his mindset. Although
carton looked like he was enjoying his time when he was drinking with his friends, he felt depressed
after which is shown through literary techniques and figurative language including allusions.
C.A: In the passage, Charles Dickens is foreshadowing Carton s actions at the end. However, this
passage serves primarily as motive for the ending of the book or as a representation of Carton
who is a round character. This is shown through Literary techniques and devices like metaphors,
allusions, and diction. Carton is shown in the passage as a person regarding his life as useless and

Explain How To Build-Up A Bad Smell Of A Water Heater
If your water has started to smell like rotten eggs, you need to sanitize your water heater.
Bacteria build up in your water heater can cause your water to smell bad; the only way to
effectively get rid of the smell is to throughly clean your water heater. Here are the steps you ll need
to follow in order to get rid of that bad smell:
Turn Off Your Water Heater
The first thing you need to do is turn off your water heater. If you have an electric water heater,
just turn off the manual switch. If you have a gas water heater, you ll need to set the control lever
to pilot. The pilot light should still be lit.
You will also need to close the inlet valve on your water heater for the cold water at this time.
Turn On The Hot Water
Next, you ll need to turn on a nearby hot water faucet. It can be a sink or tub faucet. When you turn
on the hot water faucet, you ll want to have someone also turn on the temperature and pressure
valve located at the top of your water heater at the same time. Doing this will help relieve the
pressure inside of the tank and allow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Add Hydrogen Peroxide
Now you will need to add hydrogen peroxide to your hot water tank. You can use the standard
3% hydrogen peroxide that you can find at your local drugstore. For a small hot water heater, you
ll want to add about two bottles of hydrogen peroxide; for a large water heater, you ll want to add
around four bottles of hydrogen peroxide to your tank.
You can add the hydrogen peroxide by pouring it into the outlet pipe or into the opening near the
temperature and water pressure valve. Once the hydrogen peroxide has been added, close the
temperature and pressure valve. Open the cold water inlet and allow the water heater to fill with
water again. You ll want to close the water inlet value when the tank is almost full.

Should Cellphones Be Banned In Public Places Research
Cell Phones Banning in Public Places Should cellphones be banned in public places? I agree
that cellphones should be banned in public places, however, they are needed in public places as
well. Cellphones may cause distractions but at the same time cellphones are useful when there
is an emergency. Although, people say cellphones cause a lot of sidetracks, they are also
lifesavers. When there is a problem while you re out and about you can use your device to call
for help. However, some people don t know how to just check their phone when they re busy and
that causes an aftermath. The first ever cellphone was created in 1876 by Alexander Graham
Bell. Cellphones were introduced to the public in 1945, but before cellphones there was the
mobile telephone services . The largest MTS market had no more than 44 channels, cellular
networks were an ingenious way to expand service dramatically. In the 2000s, Apple released its
first phone which included computer capable technologies. Samsung. LG, and others followed
Apple s footsteps and phones just keep coming faster each year. Cellphones were mainly created
to make life easier on humans but some people have been taking advantage of this privilege.
Cellphones aren t always the problem but it s the person who owns the phone. Cellphones can be
a throw off to what s really going on and in a blank of an eye you re facing the consequences.

The Physics Of A Wave
Introduction
As seen in the previous laboratory experiment, standing waves are produced when a wave and its
reflection are superposed. When a wave travels on a string we notice places of maximum amplitude
called antinodes, and regions of no amplitude at all, that we call nodes. When the medium in which
the wave travels is air instead of a string, similar observations are made. In this case, the antinodes
are regions of maximum compression in the air column, while the nodes are those regions which
have the lowest compression or pressure. These regions are sometimes called regions of
rarefaction. In this experiment, we used a Vernier microphone, a labquest, and PVC tubes to study
waves in a column of air.
Description of Set Up
The setup of this experiment was fairly easy. Firstly, the temperature probe and the microphone
were fixed to a ring stand and connected to the labquest; the labquest was itself connected to the
CPU. Photo 1. From here, the logger Pro was launched. The temperature reading was recorded
(20.7 o C in our case) and the microphone background reading was noted. As this point, the use of
the temperature probe was over, and so it was disconnected from the labquest.

Outline of Technique
The length and diameter of a PVC pipe were measured. These measurement are recorded in table 1.
The system was programmed to start data collection the moment the noise level is 0.2 above the
background noise. Then, the PVC pipe was held perpendicular to the microphone

and Evening has been an extremely popular celebration. And feedbacks from Tokyo Disneyland
visitors were overwhelmingly positive. As a result, managers of Disney were convinced that
everything they imported that worked in the U.S. worked in Tokyo. 4.0Euro Disney Having seen
the success achieved by two native Disneylands and the Tokyo Disneyland, with full of optimism,
Disney launched another international Disneyland the Euro Disney on April 12, 1992, in France
within its $4.4 billion budget. However, unlike Tokyo Disneyland, Euro Disney did not
experience the same success in terms of admissions and revenues. There were several reasons that
could explain the frustrations of Euro Disney. First and one of the most crucial factors were
cultural issues. While the success of Tokyo Disneyland was a major factor behind the decision to
create Euro Disney, the cultural challenges of France were very

Green-Wood Cemetery Burial Analysis
Throughout the course, I have paid close attention to the different methods of burial with hopes of
finding an option suitable for my interests when I pass in the future. At Green Wood Cemetery in
Brooklyn, I took an interest in Amy Cunningham, an advocate for green burials. She had many
wonderful experiences and expert opinions on the subject matter of types of burialpractices but
mostly accommodated natural full body burials. The topic of green burials interested me greatly
and upon further research, I found a sect of green burials where participants would use their
cremains to help facilitate the growth of a tree. These tree burials seemed like a great solution the
question I had proposed to myself while also aiding in the issue of overcrowded

The American Football Club History
Even for a club based in the Cradle of Football , Everton s history is startling. In their 138 years
of existence, they have spent only four years outside the top flight of English football. During this
time, they have won nine League titles, five FA Cups and the 1985 Cup Winners Cup. Since 1892,
the club has been playing its home games at Goodison Park, the first major football stadium in
England.
Having been founded in 1878, Everton quickly emerged as one of the top football clubs of its era.
They were among the twelve founding members of the Football League, the first professional
football competition in the world. Their first taste of silverware came in 1891, with the club
winning its first League title in a dominating fashion. It wasn t ... Show more content on

The post war period was far less kind to the club, which initially struggled to rediscover their
earlier form. Their fortunes changed with the appointment of Harry Catterick as manager in 1961;
under his authoritative presence, Everton claimed another League title in 1963. In 1966, they came
from 2 0 down to beat Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cupfinal. The club won their seventh League
title in 1970, but the rest of the decade was a fairly disappointing affair, mostly due to their arch
rivals Liverpool dominating the domestic competitions.
Everton s final claim to fame came in the mid 80s, with Howard Kendall taking over managerial
duties. Having won the 1984 FA Cup, the club won its first Double the following year; after
claiming a League title, they won the Cup Winners Cup by defeating Rapid Wien 3 1 in the final.
Under Kendall, the club would win their ninth (and as of yet, final) League title in 1987, with the
Heysel tragedy preventing them from competing for European trophies.
The club was far less fortunate in the Premier League era, with the 1995 FA Cup being their only
trophy in the two decades that followed. After being regulars in the lower half of the league table
for a while, they had a mini resurgence under David Moyes, who led the club to a fourth place
league finish in 2005 and the FA Cup final in

Nordstrom Organizational Culture
In the 1980 s business experts began to realize the root to organizational success or failure is
through its culture. The culture of an organization is the belief that guides each employee in
knowing what to do and what not to do and it also affect the public perception of the organization s
brand. Therefore culture is the shared social knowledge within an organization regarding the rules,
norms and values (Colquitt, Lepine, Wesson, 2012). Although, no two cultures are alike, there are
components and characteristics that help business experts to define an organization s culture.
Edgar Schein offers direct and indirect mechanisms that helps decipher the organization s culture:

A ritual generally contributes to the process of an organization. However, it does have symbolic
role which personifies the values of the organization. There are several rites and rituals that helps
cultivate Nordstrom s market and service culture.
Ex. 1: Recognizing and celebrating top sellers (Nordstrom, Inc, 2017).
Ex. 2: Organizational leaders engage with employees by holding prep rallies (Nordstrom, Inc, 2017).
Communication
The MNE reinforces their service culture by emphasizing excellent customer service in their
employee handbook a 5 ВЅ x 7 ВЅ card that states; Our number one goal is to provide outstanding
customer service, and for this they have only one rule: Use good judgment in all situations
(Nordstrom, Inc, 2017). The true testament of Nordstrom s philosophy is best illustrated by its
organizational chart that is readily displayed in the employees break room. This chart also depicts
another of Nordstrom s philosophy, it empowers frontline employees by placing them at the top of
the organizational pyramid. This suggest that frontline employees have the freedom to create their
own career paths and be creative when it comes to providing excellent customer service.

Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill
In Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill, the main character is an elderly woman known as Miss Brill.
This short story focuses in on a Sunday afternoon spent with Miss Brill during her weekly ritual of
visiting a park in her hometown. The character s traits are told by the narrator through the eyes of
the main character. It is obvious that Miss Brill is a very complex, intricate character. Digging
deeper into her thoughts allows the central theme of distorted reality come to light. Looking at a
day in the life of Miss Brill reveals some of her prominent character traits of being lonely,
habitual, and distorted. One of Miss Brill s main character traits is her sense of loneliness. She
tries to cope with this feeling by visiting the park every Sunday to people watch. By listening and
watching the people around her, she is able to connect herself to them in an attempt to escape her
unappealing, anticlimactic life. Through eavesdropping on other people s conversations she is
sitting in other people s lives for just a minute (219). She wants to imagine herself included,
important, and a part of a family. What is interesting is the fact that Miss Brill doesn t make an
effort to engage in conversation with any of the other characters. She solely observes her
surroundings and makes judgements. She thinks of the other people as funny...odd, silent, nearly
all old...as though they d just come from dark little rooms (220). Rather than seeing herself as one
of them, she creates an

Phillip II of Macedon Essay
Phillip II of Macedon
The year was 359 BC. Greece, though weary from constant internal struggling still had supreme
power over the Hellenistic world. Persia, though it had suffered large setback in the Persian
Wars more then a century before was still a menacing force. The Barbarian State of Macedon
was led by warrior kings who aspired to be Greek, yet ruled over a feudal society that was as
multicultural as any of its time. Good morning Miss Boeston and class. Today s seminar will
conclusively prove to you the statement that Philip II of Macedon was responsible for the rise to
greatness of the Macedonian Empire in the Fourth Century BC by examining several issues
associated with Philip s rule. Macedon was a weak power, with ... Show more content on

He became well integrated into the politics and military of Greece, learning Greek political tactics
and military strategy. Philip, in effect, had learned to be a Greek general. He had also seen how
weak Greece was becoming with its painstakingly slow democratic system and the general
disunity that was becoming predominant after many years of internal quarreling. Also, his time
in Thebes gave him a greater understanding of the geography of Greece. He learned the
strongholds, and the weak cities of Greek society, and this would prove priceless in later
expeditions. When his brother died, he left his infant son, Amyntas as the heir to the throne. Philip
was, therefore, made regent, and had control of Macedon. He succeeded to the throne in 359 BC
in the traditional Macedonian custom a round of family assassinations. Macedon, at the time of
Philip s ascension to the throne, was not a very highly regarded northern state whose power
depended upon a warrior aristocracy. The kingship rested more on personal ascendancy then
institutions. Philip disposed of the young heir and immediately began implementing his plans to
unite Macedon, and control the Greek world. One of Philip s first and most notable achievements
was the creation of the National Army. He had learned the military tactics used in the Greek army
and structured his army on the model of the Theban phalanx. However, Philip only based his army
on the Greek model. He made sure that the Macedonian

Some of the disadvantages are: limiting the vendors may limit the variety of products,
relinquishing inventory control over to vendors and distributors may negatively impact their
customer satisfaction, and the customers may decide to deal with supplier directly which could
put Best Buy at risk of loosing their business. Inventory levels over the past 4 years have
remained on an increasingly consistent track as their revenue has risen. According to Best Buy
(2010), this rise in revenue and assets is partly due to the fact that they enter new markets and open
new stores across the world. The latest opportunities that they have come across include new stores
in Europe and other areas overseas. This is new territory for Best Buy but has been a successful
venture based on their flexibility with their inventory systems that they have in place. The

Agent Of Socialisation Essay
Agents of Socialisation : The Mass Media
In the present day, the media is incorporated into our daily lives. Every day, through newspapers,
radio, television, email, the internet and social media, are we sucked into an electronic world,
which changes many of our beliefs and values about how we live our lives. It plays such a large
role in almost every person s life compared to 50 years ago, when the internet did not exist. It
effects things such as our political views, tastes in music, views of men, women, gay and
coloured people. Media is very powerful in that it is accessible by almost every human being in
the world. Over the decades, there has been a significant increase in the amount of technological
advancements, especially in the way of mobile devices and computers. The mass media, being an
agent of socialisation, means that it has a significant influence on our lives, primarily in the way we
interact with each other and learn social and cultural behaviours from others.
Media is most powerful when the individual using the agent is young, and when it can educate,
inform and change people s opinions. The effectiveness can be very positive or very negative,
for example, it can educate people of a social disaster and can bring people together. With things
such as Facebook, where people can hide behind a computer screen and say nasty things to
people, or pretend to be people they aren t, it emits a negative vibe. However, Facebook can be
used in an effective way, to

Emotional Analysis Of Dr. Oz
Dr. Mehmet Oz, commonly known as Dr. Oz, hosts a successful American TV show that focuses
on health, a topic that western culture has obsessed over. Recently, an increasing number of
Americans have sought to lead a better lifestyle by eating better; however, false advertisement
has made everyone believe that they must be willing to spend a small fortune to eat healthily. In
the writing Give (Frozen) Peas A Chance And Carrots Too , Oz argues that one does not need to
eat like the 1% to maintain a nutritious diet (1). His purpose is to inform his audience how and
why they should shop smarter, and he undoubtedly does an excellent job at persuading them to
take his advice to heart. He does so by forming a friendly bond with his audience, taking his
argument to a personal level, and using facts to compare normal, store bought foods to their
organic counterparts. The only distinguishable weakness in Oz s writing is that he fails to
support his facts with evidence which leaves his arguments prone to becoming hollow. Dr. Oz is
able to effectively get through to his audience by connecting with them on different levels of
trust. For example, he formulates a friendly connection by keeping a casual, sociable tone, and
at the same time, he uses ethos by establishing that he is a doctor to create a sense
professionalism. Oz writes, as a doctor, I know that patients don t always have the time, energy
or budget to shop for artisanal ingredients and whip them into a meal (1). He s trying to sound
understanding of his audience s situation to make him more trustworthy. With these strategies,
Oz is able to build his trust on both a doctor patient and a friendly platform which gets his
audience to listen to him with an open mind. Oz successfully uses pathos to keep his audience
engaged in his writing. He s able to anger his audience at something they might have never been
even slightly flustered over by bringing up that which most people hold nearest to their heart:
family. When describing the purpose of his essay, Oz says, I consider it a public health service to
the consumer who has to feed a family of five or the person who wants to make all the right
choices and instead is alienated and dejected because the

  • 3. Social Civilization In Korea The Japanese colonization of Korea made Koreans an easy target of exploitation. Since Japan was in a great need of cheap labor, Korean workers were recruited during 1920s. In this essay, I am going to discuss the significance of institutional racial discrimination targeted towards Korean workers in interwar Japan as a tool of alienation and exploitation. One of the abiding discernments formed in Karl Marxs Capital is that in the colonies of capitalist nation states the apparitions of the law of the supply and demandof labor are crushed. In the home country, the magnificent allurement of capitalist production can be found in its capability to reproduce the wage laborer by regularly setting him or her free, firing him or her and by creating a surplus population that rests in approximate exteriority to capitalist manufacturing as the prerequisite for the commodification of labor power. Regularly handling labor power as a expendable commodity is hence the way capitalist manufacturing can assure that its most nonexpendable commodity labor power is constantly there by the time capitalist manufacturing encounters so called labor shortages during industrial expansion. It is this reproductive apparatus that enables the smug knavery of the Japanese colonial policymaker to envision and to formalize into normalized principles of economic shift, that owners of labor power who are de facto impelled to enter into a relationship of reliance with the wage form can take part in ... • 5. Boys and Girls by Alice Munro Society tries to place many rules upon an individual as to what is acceptable and what is not . One must decide for themselves whether to give in to these pressures and conform to society s projected image, or rather to resist and maintain their own desired self image. In the story Boys and Girls by Alice Munro, Munro suggests that this conflict is internal and external and a persons experiences in life will determine which of these forces will conquer. In terms of the unnamed protagonist s experiences in the story, it becomes clear just how strong the pressure of society to conform really is, as it overcomes and replaces the girls self image. In order to better understand the conflict, first we must define what conformity and self ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although seemingly unimportant to the storyline, the presence of the foxes and horses play a major role in the story, as they symbolize the sides of the conflict between conformity and self image. The foxes represent conformity; they all live in the same routine, are controlled by others in their environment, and are both literally and metaphorically locked in a cage. The narrator s environment is much like the foxes, controlling. Her parent s subtle hints, whether it be her mother s comments or her father s tasks, are slowly but surely enclosing on her like a cage, and will soon trap her. The horses however, try as hard as they can, much like the narrator, to roam free for as long as possible, seemingly unaware of the forces acting against them in an attempt to deny them their freedom. For the horses, this force was the narrator s father, who felt that they had a purpose to be served, in the narrator s case, it was her mother s thought that she had a place to be served as well; inside the home. In the case of the foxes and horses, neither win, as they both die in the end, much like people. However, although the horse s lives end much sooner, they get to experience something that the foxes do not, and that is freedom. The protagonist s desire for freedom is clearly desirable as she expresses her resistance to conform to societies ideals by continuing to do things against the norm, thinking that by such measures [she] kept ... • 7. The Labor Force since the First Industrial Revolution Essays Labor Force During the first Industrial Revolution, many social standards of the community were starting to change. Since there were new spinning and weaving machines available, the textile mill factories were built to increase their profit. The people who established these mills hired children and women to decrease their labor cost by paying them low wages and having poor working conditions for them as well. The Labor force impacted American culture through various means such as the child labor conditions, women in the factories, and the immigrants working in the factories. The labor conditions that children faced were very demanding for a human being from such a small age. For example In the Manayunk district of Philadelphia,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lowell provided girls with work, supervised housing, and regular pay for a few years. This was a dramatic change for these girls because they moved into dorms in the city, while leaving their families back home. These girls still receive low pay for long hours of work. By the 1830s women made up approximately 80% of the textile mill work force in America (103). Women s involvement in the workforce proves that they could also earn an income just like men. The women working in the factories were beginning to realize that they also had an influence in the workforce and it changed their viewpoint of what they were capable of doing. Factories brought many opportunities for people to immigrate to the United States, since the factories needed a lot of workers who would work for a low pay. The immigrants that came were German, Irish, British, Scandinavian, and Polish workers, whom would work for even the minimum pay (Wyatt 104). American s had to learn to socialize with the immigrants since they now lived in their communities giving them a new perspective. The labor force in one factory in Massachusetts changed from being just 4% immigrant labor in the mid 1820s to more than 50% two decades later (104). This was a huge change in the number of immigrants working in the factories which meant that more of them were living the American s communities as well. Unlike the 17th ... Seventeen years later, all of my older children were lined up at the front of the church, with the minister in the middle, along with the siblings of their soon to be husbands. My younger children carried and threw flower petals, or carried the rings, and other ceremonial portions of the service. More than anything, I was simply praying that my daughters would be serious enough not to pull any pranks during the service, or for one of them to catch fire during the service as one of the men of honor had done the night of dress rehearsals when he backed into a lit candle and his mullet ignited. Our minister knew these two girls, plus their 12 other biological siblings, and the half dozen other adopted children my wife and I raised, and at times buried. The minister who performed their dedication in infancy was also the same one who was about to perform the marriage, and he knew my kids penchant for creative mischief, but all of them had sworn to be on their best behavior and all of them of course promised that there would be no pranks at their own weddings. • 9. Operant Conditioning And Social Learning When I was in my psychology class in high school, we spent a month talking about classical conditioning and we did many interesting experiments involving it. We also touched on operant conditioning and social learning, so I have some background knowledge in this subject. Classical and operant conditioning, along with social learning, are all ways to teach animals or humans how to behave. These theories developed because psychologists wanted to understand why people behave the way they do and many famous experiments have been conducted to answer this question. It was very interesting to learn more about these theories and how they work, and relating them to my own personal experiences. Classical conditioning is when a person or animal associates two stimuli and creates a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dogs would start to salivate just by hearing the bell ringing, which normally would not produce this response. The first part of the process involves an unconditioned response, like blinking or salivating. The next part needed for classical conditioning is an unconditioned stimulus. The unconditioned stimulus is one that automatically produces the unconditioned response, such as the smell of food triggering salivation. During conditioning, the neutral stimulus, like the bell in Pavlov s case, is repeatedly paired with the unconditioned stimulus, or the meat powder. After a while, the neutral stimulus becomes the conditioned stimulus. The conditioned stimulus then produces a conditioned response, since the subject of the experiment has associated the conditioned stimulus with the unconditioned response. Many interesting experiments have been conducted using classical conditioning. Another scientist that preformed an experiment with classical conditioning is John B. Watson. Watson used classical conditioned to make a young boy fear white fluffy objects. He scared the child by making loud noises every time the child was presented a white rat. ... Based on what he felt, the victim perceived that a gun was pressed against his back. Id. On these facts, the court had no difficulty in finding that the defendant had simulated a deadly weapon. Id. In another decision focusing on the victim s perception, the court upheld the armed robbery conviction of a man who used his hand under his clothing to simulate a gun during a robbery. State v. Ellison, 819 P.2d 1010, 1013 (Ariz. App. 1991). The court found it significant that the defendant simulated a weapon with his hand, observing that [t]he victim s perception is the same whether the weapon appears to be or is in fact real. Id. at 1012. In the court s view, the defendant s act posed the same potential for harm to or reaction from the victim and any bystanders. Id. at 1013. Because the victims in Ellison could reasonably have believed that the shape they saw under the defendant s clothing was a gun, rather than his hand, the defendant created the life threatening environment which the armed robbery statute seeks to punish. The court distinguished this case from Rodriguez by noting that in Rodriguez, the victim never saw anything resembling a weapon; the defendant only implied that she had a gun when she threatened to shoot the smile off the victim s face. Likewise it has long since become a standard element in the battery of expectations held and shared by citizens towards society. Pension systems are the vehicles by which these expectations are catered for. Their effectiveness and reliability are extremely important to individuals as well as societies. [] As reported by the Public Health England (PHE), individuals in the UK are expected to live longer than before the population of the UK is ageing. Men can now expect to live for a further 19 years at age 65, 12 years at 75, 6 years at 85 and 3 years at 95 Women can expect to live for a further 21 years at age 65, 13 years at 75, 7 years at 85, and 3 years at 95 With 10 million people above the age of 65 years due to rise by approximately 5.5 million by 2020 and a further 19 million by 2050 according to census in 2010 by the UK government.[] This poses a challenge as it is reported that 55%, ВЈ114bn in 2014/15, of the welfare spending is paid out to pensioners.[] As seen in the chart above, it is due to further increase and will put more pressure on the public finances finances whose strain will fall on the shoulders of small working age population. • 15. Important Measurement For A Clinical Assessment Of A... Vital signs are an important measurement for a general assessment of a patient s overall cardiovascular risk. The use of vitals signs should be regularly incorporated in the practice of physical therapy like other settings of the health care as a pre screening measure. Vital sign assessment provides invaluable information to determine if the patient s health is appropriate for physical activity or if the patient needs to be further assessed for cardiovascular health by referral to a specialist. Cardiovascular disease(CVD) is known to be one of the top causes of deaths, with an approximate two out of three deaths resulting from CVD happening as condition outside of a hospital. The high rate of CVD continually is present as a health risk for mortality, according to the World Health Organization. Many times mortality from CVD happens without any preceding symptoms. There is an apparent need to screen patients prone to an increased risk of a CVD with the frequent rate of occurrence for a cardiovascular accident (CVA). The benefit of vital sign screenings overall promote an optimal wellness prevention of disease and the best treatment standards within the physical therapy practice (Lin, Zhang, Zhang, 2013). • 17. Observation In Good Country People, By Flannery O Connor Observation In her story Good Country People, Flannery O Connor writes of Hulga Hopewell s unfortunate experience where her confidence in her intellect leads her to make wrong conclusions of other people s character. Living in self pity and despair after the accident that takes away her leg, Hulga Hopewell maintains a negative view of life, herself, and others around her. In the story, her mother, Mrs. Hopewell writes She grew less like other people and more like herself bloated, rude, and squint eyed (O Connor 487). • 35. The Two Components Of Blood Pressure 1.The two constituents of blood pressure are systolic pressure and diastolic pressure; the highest and lowest pressure readings during ventricular systole and diastole, respectively. Pulse pressure is the difference between these two readings and represents the blood being pushed into the aorta from the left ventricle. However, a bloodpressure value can be given as an average pressure in the arteries which forces the flow of blood from the heart. This value is the mean arterial pressure (MAP). Cardiac output (CO) and Total Peripheral Resistance (TPR) are the physiological determinants of MAP. CO is the volume of blood pumped by one ventricle in a given period of time (Silverthorn, 2007). It is determined by the heart rate (HR), which is the number of beats per minute, and the stroke volume (SV), which is the volume of blood pumped by a ventricle during a contraction. Venous return is the volume of blood with returns to the heart via the vena cava. With reference to the Frank Starling relationship, if CO increases, venous return should also increase, however changes in vasoconstriction can affect the venous return, thus effecting MAP. According to Poiseuille s Law, the radius of the arterioles directly impacts the resistance of blood flow to peripheral circulation, which is termed TPR. Blood volume also impacts the MAP. A larger blood volume will exert more pressure on the arterioles and therefore increase blood pressure. Furthermore, the kidneys can filter the blood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Physics Of A Wave Introduction As seen in the previous laboratory experiment, standing waves are produced when a wave and its reflection are superposed. When a wave travels on a string we notice places of maximum amplitude called antinodes, and regions of no amplitude at all, that we call nodes. When the medium in which the wave travels is air instead of a string, similar observations are made. In this case, the antinodes are regions of maximum compression in the air column, while the nodes are those regions which have the lowest compression or pressure. These regions are sometimes called regions of rarefaction. In this experiment, we used a Vernier microphone, a labquest, and PVC tubes to study waves in a column of air. Description of Set Up The setup of this experiment was fairly easy. Firstly, the temperature probe and the microphone were fixed to a ring stand and connected to the labquest; the labquest was itself connected to the CPU. Photo 1. From here, the logger Pro was launched. The temperature reading was recorded (20.7 o C in our case) and the microphone background reading was noted. As this point, the use of the temperature probe was over, and so it was disconnected from the labquest. Photo 1. Outline of Technique The length and diameter of a PVC pipe were measured. These measurement are recorded in table 1. The system was programmed to start data collection the moment the noise level is 0.2 above the background noise. Then, the PVC pipe was held perpendicular to the microphone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At Green Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, I took an interest in Amy Cunningham, an advocate for green burials. She had many wonderful experiences and expert opinions on the subject matter of types of burialpractices but mostly accommodated natural full body burials. The topic of green burials interested me greatly and upon further research, I found a sect of green burials where participants would use their cremains to help facilitate the growth of a tree. Since 1892, the club has been playing its home games at Goodison Park, the first major football stadium in England. Having been founded in 1878, Everton quickly emerged as one of the top football clubs of its era. The post war period was far less kind to the club, which initially struggled to rediscover their earlier form. Their fortunes changed with the appointment of Harry Catterick as manager in 1961; under his authoritative presence, Everton claimed another League title in 1963. In 1966, they came from 2 0 down to beat Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cupfinal. The club won their seventh League title in 1970, but the rest of the decade was a fairly disappointing affair, mostly due to their arch rivals Liverpool dominating the domestic competitions. Everton s final claim to fame came in the mid 80s, with Howard Kendall taking over managerial duties. Having won the 1984 FA Cup, the club won its first Double the following year; after claiming a League title, they won the Cup Winners Cup by defeating Rapid Wien 3 1 in the final. Under Kendall, the club would win their ninth (and as of yet, final) League title in 1987, with the Heysel tragedy preventing them from competing for European trophies. The club was far less fortunate in the Premier League era, with the 1995 FA Cup being their only trophy in the two decades that followed. Also, his time in Thebes gave him a greater understanding of the geography of Greece. He learned the strongholds, and the weak cities of Greek society, and this would prove priceless in later expeditions. When his brother died, he left his infant son, Amyntas as the heir to the throne. Philip was, therefore, made regent, and had control of Macedon. He succeeded to the throne in 359 BC in the traditional Macedonian custom a round of family assassinations. Macedon, at the time of Philip s ascension to the throne, was not a very highly regarded northern state whose power depended upon a warrior aristocracy. The kingship rested more on personal ascendancy then institutions. Philip disposed of the young heir and immediately began implementing his plans to unite Macedon, and control the Greek world. • 51. Emotional Analysis Of Dr. Oz Dr. Mehmet Oz, commonly known as Dr. Oz, hosts a successful American TV show that focuses on health, a topic that western culture has obsessed over. Recently, an increasing number of Americans have sought to lead a better lifestyle by eating better; however, false advertisement has made everyone believe that they must be willing to spend a small fortune to eat healthily. In the writing Give (Frozen) Peas A Chance And Carrots Too , Oz argues that one does not need to eat like the 1% to maintain a nutritious diet (1). His purpose is to inform his audience how and why they should shop smarter, and he undoubtedly does an excellent job at persuading them to take his advice to heart. He does so by forming a friendly bond with his audience, taking his argument to a personal level, and using facts to compare normal, store bought foods to their organic counterparts. The only distinguishable weakness in Oz s writing is that he fails to support his facts with evidence which leaves his arguments prone to becoming hollow. Dr. Oz is able to effectively get through to his audience by connecting with them on different levels of trust. For example, he formulates a friendly connection by keeping a casual, sociable tone, and at the same time, he uses ethos by establishing that he is a doctor to create a sense professionalism. Oz writes, as a doctor, I know that patients don t always have the time, energy or budget to shop for artisanal ingredients and whip them into a meal (1). He s trying to sound understanding of his audience s situation to make him more trustworthy. With these strategies, Oz is able to build his trust on both a doctor patient and a friendly platform which gets his audience to listen to him with an open mind. Oz successfully uses pathos to keep his audience engaged in his writing. He s able to anger his audience at something they might have never been even slightly flustered over by bringing up that which most people hold nearest to their heart: family. When describing the purpose of his essay, Oz says, I consider it a public health service to the consumer who has to feed a family of five or the person who wants to make all the right choices and instead is alienated and dejected because the ...
