Types Of Malicious Software Which Can Attack Critical...
There are many types of malicious software which can attack critical infrastructures and it is a security
challenge in the U.S. and world. The government and private sector should work together to prevent
attacks on critical infrastructures. The SCADA/Stuxnet Worm could have an impact on the critical
infrastructure of the U.S. There are ways to try to mitigate vulnerabilities to the worm which relates to
the seven domains. Both the government and private sectors have responsibilities to help mitigate the
threats and vulnerabilities to the critical infrastructure. Elements of an effective IT Security Policy
Framework would be help in mitigating or preventing an attack from the SCADA/Stuxnet worm.
Impact and Vulnerability of SCADA/Stuxnet Worm.
The backbone of the U.S. economy, security, and health are known as the critical infrastructure. The
critical infrastructure includes power, water, transportation and communications systems. The SCADA
is Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition which are servers that collect critical information to keep
a facility online. A worm virus can spread to the SCADA and interfere with the facility operations, an
example would be the Stuxnet worm which cause issues with Iran power plant. According to Kelley
(2013), the Stunxet reportedly destroyed about a fifth of Iran s nuclear centrifuges causing them to
spin out of control with the intent to reduce the lifetime of the centrifuges, (Kelley, 2013). The worm
caused a lot of delays with the

False Eyelashes Research Paper
For approximately 6,000 years women have utilized artificial means to enhance the appearance of
their eyes. Throughout the Victorian Era using Mascara became fashionable, and in 1916 false
eyelashes were developed. A current improvement in the actual enhancement of the woman s
eyelashes is the invention of eyelash extension. What s The Difference Between False Eyelashes And
Eyelash Extensions? A false eyelash is a reproduction of a complete eyelash on a base that is glued to
the eye lid around the bottom of the eyelashes. They can easily be removed and are only a short term
enhancement to improve the appearance of eyelashes. An eyelash extension is a series of individual
eyelashes that are glued to current eyelashes and will last for around

Persuasive Essay On Parents
There are many forms of parenting and as a parent myself, I am faced daily with decisions regarding
my children. It s my beliefs and decision that should affect how I chose to parent them. However, in
today s society how much slack are we as parents really given? We are sometimes forced into making
parental decisions solely based on state laws and regulations. Parents are being held legally
responsible for declining medical decisions regarding their children. Parent are also being intimidated
by medical professionals for choosing not to vaccinate their children. Judges are ruling against legally
fit parents for seeking second options. Parents should not be fighting the court system for medical
rights. Nor should parents feel bullied by the government system. They should have the right to
choose how they parent. There are many different parenting styles, who gets to dictate which is right?
Not every family is the same, so why should the government be allowed to decide these rights and
responsibilities. No two families share the same beliefs and religions. Parenting should not be a one
size fits all. Parents should have the right to make medical and educational decisions for their children
without government interference unless there is proof of neglect or abuse, because parents ultimately
have their children best interest at heart. From the moment your child is born, they are immediately
given a series of routine test, ointments, vaccines that unless its optional by the state you have no say
in. Texas law requires health care providers apply antibiotic eye ointment to all newborns within two
hours of birth. Antibiotic eye ointment is routinely been given to newborns. It s used to prevent
neonatal conjunctivitis and complications such as blindness that can be contracted through the birth
canal of untreated gonorrhea or chlamydia mothers. Refusing to comply is a Class B misdemeanor.
Like any treatment, it comes with side effects. These can be minimal but can cause redness, itching,
stinging, or burning of the eye after applying the eye ointments to newborns. (Erythromycin
Ophthalmic) Some may argue the risk of side effects is worth not having a newborn with serious
complications like blindness. It s a valid

Themes in Raymond Carver s Literature Essay
Themes in Raymond Carver s Literature
In Short Cuts, by Raymond Carver, characters experience trials and problems in their lives, whether
extreme such as in A Small, Good Thing and Lemonade or nominal such as in Vitamins . They all
seem to depict these struggles as uphill battles which the characters cannot and mostly do not
overcome. The characters throughout Carver s Short Cuts struggle through their lives in private
desperation, often to ultimately realize that they are bound to the truth of who they really are, which is
shown in the story Neighbors.
In Neighbors , Bill and Arlene Miller are a couple with menial jobs who give credence to the saying
the grass is greener on the other side of the fence . They are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Well, I wish it was us (14), Jim says as he waves goodbye to his neighbors on their way to another
vacation.
The Miller are asked to house sit for their neighbors. The each go into the apartment separately, trying
to uncover some aspect of the Stone s lives, keeping it a secret from the other what they are doing. It is
ultimately realized at the end that they are both doing more than feeding the cat when they go into the
apartment.
The Miller s searching through their neighbor s apartment is symbolic of their search for meaning in
their own lives. Because they are not satisfied with the way they live, they project the Stones life onto
their own, to the extent of pretending to live in their apartment, if only for one moment.
Bill s fantasy of being like the Stone s may be shown by his actions of taking a bottle of Harriet s pills
(14), and drinking and eating their food, with no qualms of invade his neighbors privacy (16). On page
15, Bill had the feeling that he left something as he was closing the door to the Stone s apartment. It is
likely that he felt he was leaving behind the false persona of who and how he wanted to live like.
After more frequent trips into the Stone s apartment, Bill begins to wear their clothing, which is also
symbolic of trying to put on

The Trial Of God Book Analysis
In the book The trial of god by Elie Wiesel and the movie God on Trial directed by Andy de Emmony,
there are many similarities and differences throughout the film and the Novel. Both the author and
director capture the points of their stories. The settings of both stories are emotional. Trial of god by
Elie Wiesel it takes place right after a pogrom. They perform a play putting god on trial and accused
him of staying in silence while they faced evil. God on Trial directed by Andy de Emmony is about a
legend that a group of concentration camp prisoners gave a trial convicting God for letting his people
get killed. The compare and contrast aspects will be theme, setting, and situational irony. It will be
discussed on how both stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the movie, God on Trial there was a rabbi named Akiba, performed by Antony Sher with the other
men in the concentration camp. Rabbis are Jewish religious leaders that are always looked at for
guidance. In the movie the rabbi was said to be one of the thirty six rabbis. The character Idek states,
He is the rabbi of Zamkevitz. Melamed and is a healer... They say that he is one of the thirty six... the
lamed vovnik. The secret saints who are carrying us on their shoulders. They have set their souls on
God, and for their sake He does not destroy us. (God on Trial, Dir. Andy de Emmony. Per. Blake
Ritson.) In other words, Melamed is a term in biblical times denoted a religious leader or teacher. In
Jewish terms the thirty six means life. This brought some hope and light to some of the men in the
bunker. Right before the judges were going to give the verdict, the rabbi gave a speech. He
complicates the matter further when he says, When David defeated the Moabites, what did he do? He
made them lie on the ground in lines, and he chose one to live and two to die. We are become the
Moabites. We are learning how it was for the Amalekites. They faced extinction at the hands of
Adonai. They died for his purpose. They fell as we were falling. They were afraid as we were afraid.
And what did they learn? They learned... that Adonai, the Lord our God... is not good. He is not good.

UML to Java Executable Code Generator Sai Priya Anumula, California State University, Fullerton
Abstract Automatic Code generation from UML diagrams gains much interest lately in software
design, because it has many benefits as it reduces the effort to generate code and moreover automated
code is less error prone than writing code manually. However, major challenges in this area include
checking consistency of UML models, and ensuring accuracy, maintainability, and efficiency of the
generated code. In this paper we discuss a tool called UJECTOR,which is used for automatic
generation of executable java code from UML diagrams. UML diagrams like class diagram, sequence
diagram and activity diagram are passed as input to the tool UJECTOR ... Show more content on

UML activity diagrams are used to provide code completeness and user interactions. Activity
diagrams are referenced in sequence diagrams. 2. RELATED WORK 2.1. Enterprise Architect It
converts Class or interface model elements into code. It generates code in various languages like c, c#,
c++, java, Visual Basic, Visual Basic. NET, Python, PHP, and Action Script. In this Class and interface
elements are required to generate code. 2.2. Eclipse UML Generators It bridges the gap between UML
models and source code. Eclipse does this by extracting data from UML models to generate source
code or by reverse engineering source code to produce UML models. 2.3. Rhapsody This tool
generates C++ code from UML object and state chart diagrams. It also takes message sequence charts
(MSC) as an additional input. The tool takes STATEMATE representation of state chart as an input
and generates C++ code. 2.4. dCode This tool generates Java code from UML object, activity and state
chart diagrams. From an analysis of the existing code generation tools for UML diagrams, we
conclude that: The completeness of the generated code is a big issue The generated code lacks object
manipulation The generated code lacks user interaction The existing work lacks understandability All
the UML based code generation tools use older versions of UML in code generation process instead of

Evaluating Alice s Goals Of Pay Off Student Loan
Introduction Goals are vital in any financial planning process to be successful. For goals to be truly
useful, they must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely ( Siegel Yacht, 2009). As
personal circumstances change and the economy as a whole also changes, there is the need to make or
plan goals flexible that can easily adjust according to each situation. This paper will use the
S.M.A.R.T planning model to evaluate Alice s goals of; pay off student loan, buy a house and save for
children s education, accumulate assets, retire, and travel around the world in a sailboat. Defining
Alice s goals: To better define Alice s goals, these goals must be divided into short term, intermediate,
and long term goals. We know that Alice s goals are to pay off student loan, buy a house and save for
children s education, accumulate assets, retire, and to travel around the world in a sailboat.
Considering that Alice source of income is only through wages or salary, Alice goals must therefore

considerable amount of time. Knowing her current situation and looking for ways to improve so that
her goals can be met and timely, there is the need to evaluate alternatives and making

Imperialism In The 21st Century
Now we ve got it covered now we can ensure it s understood: Trump is not an outsider, first of all. He

rich/poor binary/non binary), the less united we are in empathy and objective conscience. The elite are
mostly white, mostly male, mostly straight, mostly cisgender, and guaranteed to be rich as rich can be.
If the other categories of human are repressed and removed, they can have all the free reign they want!

Eating Disorders As A Female Disorder
ABSTRACT
Eating disorders are one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the United States. Although this
disease is typically viewed as a female disorder, males are greatly affected and may go undiagnosed
and untreated due to the attached stigma. Thus, it is important to understand the risk factors associated
with the development of eating disorders in males. These risk factors include: athletic involvement,
sexual orientation, pre morbid obesity, and adverse childhood experiences. Eating disorder type and
symptom presentation also varies between males and females. Males typically do not meet the criteria
to be categorized as Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa, causing their condition to be classified as
Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Symptom presentation is likely to include binge eating and
excessive exercise rather than restrictive eating, purging, or other compensatory methods commonly
seen in the female population. Several eating disorder assessments are available for use in clinical
practice, most of which have been geared toward the female gender. New assessments, such as the
Eating Disorder Assessment for Males, have been developed recently to try to hone in on the typical
male symptomatology and their psychological processes. Prompt treatment of eating disorders,
regardless of gender, is necessary to prevent the development of medical and psychological
comorbidities. This process cannot begin until the diagnosis has been made; therefore, additional

Essay on A Brief Overview of Walter Mitty
A Brief Overview of Walter Mitty
In the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James Thurber, many interesting fantasies occur
in a way which brings the reader into a different world. The story switches back and forth from
delusion to reality, dragging the reader into a life, perhaps similar to their own. In the beginning of this
story, the first paragraph is a fantasy of the main character, Walter Mitty. It describes his life as a
commander of an aircraft. An intense scene is displayed showing what Walter Mitty wishes would be
reality. It is not until the next paragraph that one discovers this reality. His wife then interrupts the
scene, bringing Walter Mitty back into his everyday life, one which is far less exciting to ... Show

The formalistic approach for analyzing this would be most appropriate in order to pick out the
elements such as setting, irony, imagery and metaphorical factors. These are organized in such a way
that the formatting consumes the story. In this tale, the first important element would be the
introduction of the setting. Throughout the story, the author writes across multiple settings because of
these flashbacks that he displays. The first setting would be on an airplane with two introductory
characters; The Commander and Lieutenant Berg . This beginning setting is seen as a guessing game
to begin with as the dialogue becomes the most prominent use in this introduction. Once the setting is
described more clearly as the paragraph moves forward, the reader will grasp an understanding of
where these two characters are. However, soon after the reader s mind may be clarified, the scene is
interrupted with the dialogue of a new character, Mrs. Mitty. Not so fast! You re driving too fast! Said
Mrs. Mitty. What are you driving so fast for? (Thurber 1). This is the first example one has of the
basic structure that this story will set forth. The organization of this story goes from what was
described in the introductory paragraph as a flashback, to the interrupting dialogue of Mrs. Mitty. As
she yells,

Analysis Of The Book From Aunt Jullia
From Aunt Jullia when we would slowly drive around Memorial and River Oaks to get new ideas and

Barbara then looked directly at the moon and said, Do you think that bright beautiful moon, casting its

Cassie, at the time, wasn t thinking of her self but about Robert Cody and, I wonder what Robert Cody

Doctor-Assisted Suicide Case Study
The Canadian justice system is supposed to be neutral, fair, objective, and impartial. However, we can
see that this is not the reality but rather often times it can be oppressive, constraining, and enforces
discriminatory legislation or policies that directly or indirectly works to target certain groups of
people. This is especially evident when we look at the criminal laws which criminalize non able
bodied and terminally ill individuals, who seek out assistance in dying because they feel that their life
is no longer worth living, and as a result takes away their dignity and right to autonomy. The
decriminalization of physician assisted suicide is fundamental in order to achieve and maintain the

The Correlation Between Current Brazilian Beauty Standards...
Before understanding the correlation between current Brazilian beauty standards and racial whitening,
I need to establish modern day beauty norms and epitomes in Brazil. The first, most obvious,
westernized beauty norm in Brazil is hair. The majority of Brazilians have dark, curly hair; However,
it is deemed more beautiful to have straight, lighter hair. Edmonds cites in his ethnography, ...the
cultural rule seems to be the straighter (and often blonder) the better... (Edmonds, 143) when referring
to beauty ideals. Although, most women in Brazil have curly hair, it is considered a rarity for women
to be seen with curls because curls are known to Brazilians as a black hairstyle ( Edmonds 150 151).
Additionally, there is a common saying in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This perpetuates the stereotype that African features are less appealing. The goal of many Brazilian
women is to have lighter skin. This interest has sparked a rise in the use of skin lightening creams in
Brazil. Skin whitening products are estimated at a three billion dollar industry worldwide (Charleston,
2016). Despite the dangers from the chemicals in such products, Brazilians continue to use them in
order to achieve the societal construction of beauty. White and colored people continue to maintain the
principle that lighter skin is more beautiful. A modern example of this unjust practice is Emma Watson
s modeling for a Lancôme product. Watson was the face of a skin lightning product which promised
pearl perfect whiteness (Charleston, 2016). Not only is the concept of changing skin colors to adapt to
beauty standards unfair, the model they chose was naturally born very pale; So, it is a completely
unattainable and unrealistic goal to have skin like her if the consumer is someone with a darker
complexion. Many Brazilian celebrities have been criticized for having appeared to have lightened or
altered their skin. For example, famous soccer star, Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, was criticized after
pictures surfaced from when he was young up until about two years ago; In those photos, he looked
Black. Once he started to become famous, he showed more and more common white characteristics,
especially in his complexion (Parbhala, 2014). Neymar was once asked if he

on the psychodynamic theory will be reviewed. The conflict analysis previously described can be
better understood applying the psychodynamic theory. After thinking about the conflict, I have come
to conclusion that my sister displaced conflict. Raven asserted the hardship that she was currently
going through and after analyzing the psychodynamic theory, I realized that she was taking her
frustration out on the wrong people. Over those past couple of days, she has continually been building
up her anger and she should have explained her frustration with her friend that she was having issues
with. After the fact, Raven realized that she displaced her conflict. She made apologies to me because
she felt bad that I had to deal with her attitude and drive her home. Raven let her internal state of mind
dictate our interaction. The battle between her id and superego she experienced was from her not
being able to keep friends. This then lead to anxiety, repression and frustration. Knowing the type of
relationship, we have, I believe that I was an easy target for her to take her frustration out on.

Experimental Research And Experimental Methods
Experimental
To be competitive as renewable energy recourse turbines in wave energy generation must be robust
and economical for a number of years. Approaches utilize experiments to characterize and predict the
effect of parameters involved. One of which is advancements to turbine blades due to unsteady
hydrodynamic loads. Characterizing these loads can determine their fatigue life and determine a more
reliable material to be used for manufacturing the blades avoiding premature failure. Reliability is
necessary due to most renewable wave energy devices are being placed in remote locations where it is
not economical to maintain or replace failed hardware. Turbulent flow across the turbine blade creates
moments and bending of the blades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This loading in a circular motion is associated with yet another type of loading which is dynamic
inflow.
The objective of recent experiments is to study and experimentally quantify the unsteady loads on a
horizontal axis turbine blade from turbulent forces with similar operating conditions in which the
boundary layer is maintained along the edges of the blades. Therefore a new data set was to be
obtained providing bending moment responses to oscillatory frequencies and velocity amplitudes. By
performing a series of multi frequency and half sinusoidal experiments may demonstrate whether
single frequency forcing could be applied to model these more general responses2. A recent article
titled Blade Loading on Tidal Turbines for Uniform Unsteady Flow2 performs the experiment with
valid materials and methods in order to better predict this phenomenon of turbulent loads and fatigue
life along with the results of the experiment.
Another recent experimental approach is decreasing cost per installed kilowatt. In order to utilize
alternative energy such as wave energy it must be as cheap or as cost effective as current energy
sources such as fossil fuels. Harnessing energy from alternative sources and then converting the

The Sun Also Rises Relationships
Love and friendship are a major theme in the course of the book, The Sun Also Rises by Ernest
Hemingway. As an expatriate himself, Hemmingway paints a realistic picture of life in 1920s Paris,
France through his protagonist Jake Barnes. To show the importance of his characters, the lost
generation, Hemingway writes of Jake and his friends, the places he visits, and the events he enjoys.
Due to postwar times, the relationships between Jake and his lover Brett, his friend Bill, and
antagonist Robert enhance the plot and do not represent the typical healthy relationships. The type of
love portrayed between Jake and Brett is not the typical fairy tale story due to the disillusioned state of
the characters in a self indulgent time. The war affected

Miranda v. Arizona 384 United States Supreme Court 436 (1966)
ABSTRACT
The Miranda warning is a landmark case, the Supreme Court decided five to four majority in the case
Miranda v. Arizona in 1966, stating that the Constitution s Fifth Amendment prohibition against self
implication connected to a person in the custody of a police officer or denied of his opportunity of
activity in any substantial way. However, with the specific objective to protect this benefit, the Court
ruled, person must, before any questioning, be warned that he has a right to remain silent, that any
statement he does make may be used as evidence against him, and that he has right to presence of an
attorney, retained or appointed (Miranda v. Arizona 384 U.S. 436 (1966). Which allow the right
individuals to have an attorney present prior to be questioning. Miranda warning is used and enforced
by all law enforcement in the United States. It was established because of the incident of March 13,
1963, with Ernesto Miranda. The Phoenix Police Department arrested Miranda on circumstantial
evidence which linked him to kidnap and rape of an eighteen year old woman a ... Show more content

Breitenfeld Battle Analysis
The small Saxon village of Breitenfeld has long since been absorbed by the city of Leipzig. There isn t
that much to see there. There is no tourism to speak of and even people in the area have only a vague
notion of the importance that their small town once held. In fact, in the fields to the east of the city
was fought a battle that probably decided the direction of European (and thus Western) Civilization.
The battle fought there was not just a clash of armies; it was a collision between religions, a testing
ground for new tactics and a stage for larger than life personalities. An afternoon in September,
1631was all it took for the world to take its present course. BACKGROUND One hundred years
before the outbreak of general hostilities, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Pappenheim s defeated formations fell back, the rest of the Imperial cavalry attacked the Saxon
army holding Gustavus left flank. The inexperienced (but apparently well dressed) Saxon infantry,
which was formed into Tercios like their Catholic opponents were routed and fled the field in panic.
Over 3000 of them were cut down by pursuing cavalry. The rout of the Saxons was a massive problem
for Gustavus. This is where his adaptation of the linear formation saved him. In warfare such as this,
the flanks are everything. If your flank is turned then your army must flee in order to avoid
destruction. The Swedes, in their long lines of infantry, were able to pull their expose flank back faster
than the slow moving Imperial Tercios (which had, at this point, not been involved in the attacks) were
able to move around it. In modern terms, Adolphus refused his flank to the enemy. After securing his
battered left flank, Gustavus struck from his right with his cavalry and his well disciplined infantry. It
is worth mentioning the high level of training that the Swedish musketeers. They were trained to load
and fire at a much higher rate than other musketeers of the time. The Swedes were much more
dependent on firepower than other armies of the time and Gustavus attack tore the Imperial Tercios
apart with musket and cannon fire. Sometime after the Swedish counterattack, Gustavus infantry
captured most of the Catholic artillery pieces and because the Swedes were cross trained in other
disciplines, they were able to add the weight of the captured cannons to their own attack. This added
firepower was the last straw for the Catholic forces. They broke and ran for their lives. Thousands
were cut down or captured in the ensuing pursuit (Rickard, 2000). Gustavus Adolphus had his victory

New York City, Tokyo And Paris
Introduction: With all major cities in the world, such as: New York City, Tokyo and Paris, comes a
exceptional transit system. Whether its is subways, buses, light rail transit (LRT) or a combination of
the above, they all perform a crucial role in transporting people from one destination to the next. Since
opening in 1954, Toronto s Transit Commission, also known as the TTC, has a system that just about
cover every part of Toronto, with 4 subway/rapid transit lines, 143 bus and 11 streetcar routes in 2015,
(TTC, 2015). Unfortunately, the TTC is still plagued with many problems, such as: unexplained delay
and overcrowding, which decline the riderships and revenues (Curry, 2016; Hume, 2016).
Furthermore the population of the greater toronto area (GTA) is expected to grow in the upcoming
years, Toronto s transit system would not be ready for the increase in capacity (CrosstownTO, 2014).
Therefore in order to increase the transit system s capacity and make it more appealing, more
LRT/Bus lines would need to be built in the GTA due to their constructability, benefits to society and
the environment, flexibility in suburbs and their low risks in meeting ridership goal.
Constructability
Planning and constructing a new transit system is simple and inexpensive task . Everyones loves the
idea of subways, those electric powered trains can travel at rapid speeds of 24 39 km/hr with their own
right of way and carry over 1500 passengers per train and serve as the backbone of any

Listening Well-A Chaplain Vocation Summary
In Listening Well A Chaplain Vocation, Nicole Chivilis surprises me when he points out that listening
has a sacramental dimension. I have no doubt of that, but I never think of listening as sacrament.
Indeed, Chivilis indicates that in the hospital setting, circles of unity, understanding, reconciliation and
forgiveness among family members and friends could be formed to share about their loved ones. They
form a communion table and the chaplain is in the sacred space. Thus, according to Chivilis, listening
well creates a space in which a truth can be spoken. I think that recognizing listening as sacrament is
very significant because the stories that we the listeners receive are sacred treasures. For that reason, I

The Jersey Devil
The Jersey Devil sipped his wine from a pint glass through a straw and turned his dull white eyes up
to mine. We have met together enough times now for me to tell when something is bothering him. We
were scheduled to talk about the killing his mother today but, it did not look like he had it in him. Are
you ready to talk? I asked him. He grunted in his obscene manner in response to the question.
Apparently, he was not in the mood for matricide today. All she ever did was tend her garden and talk
about how in love with dad she had been. Ironically, her favorite line of sweet talk from him was, I
love you. Everyday, and twice on Sundays. It was sickening. Why sickening? I had to ask. He stared
through my eyes and seemed to speak directly into my brain, Because of who my father is. Up until
that point, I had figured that he was a mutant or even a curse of some sort. Never did the thought cross
my mind that he was the spawn of something truly evil. God had sent his son Jesus, he spat on the
floor, to Earth more than 2000 years ago. Almost 18 centuries later, Satan became sick of hearing
about the supposed savior of man. So, being spiteful and hating God more than anything, he designed
himself a brother. He called his brother Josiah because, he liked the name. I said, I never knew Satan
had a brother and I certainly have never heard of Josiah. It began to rain outside and trickles of brown
water seeped through the roof and on to the table. The Devil

Resident Evil 5 Representation
Resident Evil 5, which is known as Biohazard 5 in Japan, is a survival horror video game developed
and published by a digital company named Capcom (Snow, 2008: 1). The game was released on the
5th of March in 2009. The plot of Resident Evil revolves around characters named Chris Redfield the
white middle aged male protagonist and Sheva Alomar the middle aged female character that serves to
support Chris (Snow, 2008: 1). It also revolves around their investigation of a terrorist threat in Kijuju,
which is a fictional region in Africa (Snow, 2008: 1). In this essay, the question of how representation
of the other embodies relations of power is explored using Resident Evil 5 and using Stuart Hall s
theories, namely, representation, binary oppositions, stereotypes and naturalization to conclude how
representation of the other carries relations of power. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Representation is the act of portraying or depicting something (Merriam Webster s Online Dictionary
2014)). According to Stuart Hall, it means using language to say something meaningful about, or to
present for the second time, the world meaningfully to the other people (Hall, 1997: 259). Hall further
states that there is a fixed connection between power which he defines as the ability to control people
or things, that can radiate from both dominant and the dominated (Hall, 1997: 261) and representation.
In conclusion, Hall s idea is that in the context of representation, the circularity of power is critical. In
Resident Evil 5, a number of things such as the African continent and the people living in it are
represented as the other from the normal western society, which embodies relations of power in a
sense that the power radiates from the normal western society towards the subordinate other, which in
this context is the African continent and its people. When

looks out for is water spilling onto the sidewalks, sprinklers on after the designated hours and leaky
irrigation systems. Perry Kane is one of the eighteen employees in the Las Vegas water cop

On a navy ship damage control is an all hands job. This being said all hands are required to possess
knowledge of all available damage control equipment. Should your ship take a hit from an enemy
missile or torpedo the damage must be assessed immediately and the investigator must be able to
analyze and determine the appropriate actions to correct the situation. One vital tool in the damage
control inventory of repair options is an E WARP patch (Emergency Water Activated Repair Patch).
The E WARP is an easy to use patch that can be used on many piping systems. The EWARP comes in

This can be easily done by tracing the arrows on the pipe backwards. The arrows show the direction of
the flow and you will follow the arrows backwards until you come to a valve. When you arrive at the
valve you will rotate the handle in a clockwise motion until tight. The next step for the service
member is to determine if the damage meets the criteria for repair with the EWARP. The EWARP
should not be used on pipes that are operating above 150 PSI (pounds per square inch). The PSI can
be easily located along the pipe in bold black block lettering. Next the service member will determine
the operating temperature of the damaged pipe. The temperature can be found by following the pipe to
the source valve or pump where a thermometer can be easily read. The piping needs to be operating at
a temperature of less than 300 degrees Fahrenheit. EWARP should also not be used on potable water
lines or lines used for the transfer of fuel systems. The contents of the pipe can be determined by the
color of the pipe or the color of the pipes valve. The following chart can be used determine pipe

Personal Responsibility Reflection
Q1: How have your views on business and personal responsibility changed, if at all, over the course of
the semester?
Throughout the course of this semester, my views on business and personal responsibility changed
drastically. While completing the corporate social responsibility assignment as well as reading about
Bill Strickland s story and the Frontline Poisoned Waters video, I learned many new lessons on the
importance of social responsibility. For starters, the corporate social responsibility project opened my
eyes to all the positive impacts that large companies are making in the world. More specifically, for
my project, I researched Marriott International. Initially, I was unaware of all the steps they take
increase sustainability. Each year they take steps to cut down water waste, carbon emission and
landfill waste. This is a very tall task because they own over six thousand properties. I was completely
unaware that large companies similar to Marriott were concerned about the environment.
Secondly, while reading Bill Strickland s Make the Impossible Possible I learned many helpful
lessons. One thing that stuck with me was Bill s ambition to chase his dreams. While working with
ceramics, he found something that he truly enjoyed, and he knew that crafting could help influence
others too. Though he grew up in a poor, destructive neighborhood, he didn t let that stop him. When
he finally opened up his first craftsman s guild I knew that he would have the ability to make it
special. After expansion and reassessment, Bill was finally make his dream a reality by creating the
beautiful Manchester Bidwell center. Although this was not an easy process, he stuck with it and can
now be very proud of what he created. Lastly, he shows that people should never give up on their
dreams and that people should give back to their community whenever possible.
Lastly, the poisoned water video had a large impact on me. That video showed the results of what
happens when companies aren t sustainable and let waste build up. The video showed examples of the
waste accumulating in the Puget Sound as well as how farms are dealing with there waste problems.
The documentary was a little sad because it showed all the mutations

Application And Utility Of Database Management Systems
Roger K. Doost, (2002) The need for change in the way we teach accounting information systems ,
Managerial Auditing Journal, Vol. 17 Iss: 5, pp.277 282
The article, The need for change in the way we teach accounting information systems , by Roger K.
Doost, seeks to address the issues of how teachers and Universities are behind the power curve when
it comes to teaching the Accounting Information Systems (AIS) course. He argues that lectures out of
the textbook will no longer be beneficial if instructors do not include hands on training going forward.
The emphasis on database and database management should be supplemented with relevant software
and teaching material to make the course more meaningful and the efforts more fruitful . (Doost,
2002). This article is to illustrate how the incorporation of Microsoft Access into the AIS course
provides an excellent demonstration into application and utility of database management systems. In
the introductory section of this article, Doost elaborates on the many reasons why some of his fellow
colleagues are having a rather difficult time teaching the AIS course effectively. He stated that in the
past, Universities employed professors based on their interest in the course or having experience in the
AIS field. With that being said, some professors can teach a course outside of their professional fields
of study. The ideal professor to teach this subject matter is one who has adequate graduate work in the
areas of both

Archetypes In Fifth Business
Fifth Business by Robertson Davies explores the theme of Psychology through several characters.
Each character has a certain archetype which will affect how they think, showing different
psychological effects. Specifically, the archetypes mentioned are the introverted, the confidant, the
egotist, and the saint. These four archetypes respectively correlate to being the side character, the
secret keeper, the self absorbed brat, or the painfully charitable woman. Davies attempts to explore the
relation between an archetype and the psychology behind it.
One example from which you can find a psychological archetype would be the protagonist, and
narrator, Dunstan Ramsay. Typically, all characters have their own problems, traumas, and emotional
luggage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The various characters demonstrate an understanding of certain psychological quirks attached to their
respective archetype. For example, Dunstan s introversion makes him susceptible to become the Fifth
Business, while his mentality of being the confidant forces him to keep secrets regardless of who is
being told or whom the secret is from. Percy s obsession for power shows the lack of psychological
development to gain emotion, becoming emotionally stunted and naive. Mrs. Dempster s saint
archetype as seen by Dunstan is to an extreme degree, to the point where she seemingly does anything
to help, often coming off as a miracle worker. Such archetypes have their effects on each individual s
thoughts and behaviour, and the reason that Davies is able to represent these archetypes is due to the
fact that these psychological characteristics take part in our everyday life in the people we meet. This
allows the readers to better understand the characters as they are able to connect these characters with
people they know in real life. It is important to recognize that the thoughts build the person, and the
theme of psychology focuses on just that. As a result of this, Davies does an excellent job in
representing each of the characters as their own

and their roles such as the doctor who is sought by those who require medical care or the pilot who is

Thrasymachus examples to counter his argument by claiming it is the exact opposite by stating how
the doctor is the one who is dependent on the sick for his art, and if there were no sick people, he
would be useless and thus powerless. The pilot depends upon his men to accept his authority and
follow his commands, for if they so desired, they could easily mutiny and overthrow him. This can be
applied to the rulers of a nation, as they may also not know if the laws they are implementing can be
good or not, which also carries the risk of losing the support of the masses. Socrates makes the case
that without all these people to rule, the doctor, pilot, and ruler would all find themselves without
power for it comes from the ruled, after which the discussion turns to these positions being self
centered such as the doctor being a wage earner and not concerned over their distribution of

Biofuels as an Alternative Fuel Source
Some organisms produce energy by photosynthesis. These organisms convert sunlight to energy that is
chemical, and this energy is in the form of sugar (Freedman 2013). The sugars from these organisms
can be used as biofuels by fermenting the sugars (Bourne 2007). Some photosynthetic organisms are
more efficient than others. Based on our reading, I found out that algae plants are the most efficient
organism for biofuel because they do not have cellulose and lignin that sugarcane and corn both
possess (Bourne 2007). Biofuels could eventually replace diesel fuels that we continuously use, and
will soon run out of. Diesel fuels have been proven to damage the environment, and biofuels would
help this issue.
Biofuels would not be bad for the environment because they come straight from the environment, and
with biofuels there would be no dangerous or bad chemicals released into the atmosphere. Each
photosynthetic organism collects the sunlight in different ways because of their pigments (lab manual
2013). Different types of pigments in the organism absorb different wavelengths. The wavelength that
travels the deepest in water is blue, which is 450 500nm. Before starting the experiment, my group
was curious to what color of light would produce the biggest biomass, and what kind of pigment
would be in our organism. We were given the algae chlorella, and based our hypothesis on that. For
our hypothesis, we thought there would be a difference in biomass between red and blue light, and

Dispute Resolution Innovations
Dispute Resolution Innovations
Introduction
This paper will discuss innovative alternative dispute resolutions and how they may be used in a
controversial conflict scenario. The writer will discuss these methods using an actual conflict scenario,
describing how individuals involved in the conflict will benefit from these innovative methods rather
than costly courtroom litigation. Alternative dispute resolutions are clearly the most beneficial conflict
solution regardless of gender, cultural influence, and identity.
Conflict Scenario The conflict scenario discussed in this paper is that of parenting differences
regarding discipline between a husband and wife. The scenario includes the controversial subject of

McDowell and Sussman (2004) state In negotiation, the disputants discuss their differences and move
toward a settlement acceptable to all parties. Negotiation is the least costly resolution technique
because the parties themselves control the process and voluntarily reach a solution . This method
insures that the best interest of the child is of top importance and both sides are heard.
Beneficial Outcomes and Cost Savings
The beneficial outcomes of alternative dispute resolution strategies are quite significant. The couple
has a better chance of resolving their conflicts with a professional whom understands the couples
differences and work through them than a judge who does not. Litigation rarely benefits both parties
and may not come to a judgment that s in the best interest of the child. A healthy relationship between
all individuals involved is usually more successful with alternative dispute resolution strategies.
Another benefit to alternative dispute resolution strategies is the cost savings. If the couple were to
seek litigation it would take much longer and would require expensive legal costs. According to
McDowell and Sussman (2004) ADR processes are designed to be faster, more streamlined, and more
informal than litigation. Many of the costly procedures associated with formal court processes, such as
filing appeals and motions can be eliminated .

Princess Cut Cons
The princess cut has been around since the 1970s, so it s relatively new when compared to other types

Pros of the Princess Cut Engagement Ring
Less Expensive than Some Cuts
When compared to some of the other cuts, the princess is less expensive. Cutting of the diamond with

anyone else.
If you look around your office, the gym or a restaurant, you ll see plenty of women with a round
diamond ring. When you see one with a princess cut engagement ring, you ll likely see a unique
woman that stands out in the crowd. She s not afraid to buck trends and do her own

Gallipoli Consequences
The First World War had created a huge amount of consequences for several nations including the
Ottoman Empire. But for a time in the war, there was a bright spot for central powers and especially
the Ottomans. The one bright spot that was thought to turn the Ottoman s fortunes was at the Gallipoli
Campaign. The victory was for the Ottomans became a very huge confidence boost for the army. The
problem was that after Gallipoli, everything turned bad and the Ottomans began to suffer. It is
interesting that an Empire that won a great and significant battle fell apart so quickly. In one of the
fronts that is seen in this case was in eastern Anatolia. This front against the Russians showed to be
very difficult for the Ottomans before and especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Russians were on the move as the Ottomans were struggling to hold on. One of the big defeats
that the Ottomans had was when they lost the Erzurum Fortress. The Ottomans had their experience
with defending. The most recent example was at Gallipoli . The Erzurum fortress was well equipped
and ready to defend with about 235 artillery pieces to help defend the area . At the time Ottoman high
command was not expecting an attack from the Russians knew . The third army commander at the
time Mahmut Kamil Pasha was in Istanbul . Defenses were still in place though for any kind of attack.
So in this case there was an attempted to improve the defenses by protecting several specific flanks of
the fortress in order to protect it from Russian attack. This was a big issue because it showed a glaring
weakness in the Ottoman ranks. With the great area that had to be covered, the lines of defenses grew
quite thin . The Russians saw this and decided to take this to their advantage. As an apparent shock to
the Ottomans, the Russians started their attack on the fortress on February 11 1916. The Turkish
defenses felt outnumbered due to the troops protecting many of the other flanks. Turkish infantry
battalion was so stretched that 350 soldiers had to defend against 1,000 solders .As the Russians were
finish their first offensive Mahmut quickly returned to fix the defenses . Once again the defensive
lines were stretched thin

Media Day At The Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers had an entire summer to dwell on their crushing loss to the Golden State
Warriors in the 2015 NBA Finals.
I think last year is last year, and this year is this year, Cavs head coach David Blatt said at the team s
media day on Monday. We do have high expectations. Our goals are clear and are stated, but not
guaranteed.
It s important for all of us to not overstate, but to overachieve.
Blatt admitted he borrowed that last quote from Cavs general manager David Griffin, who never fails
to reiterate the organization s ultimate goal Bring a championship to the title starved city of Cleveland.
The elephant in the room can t go unnoticed. The Cavs haven t won an NBA title since the franchise
came into existence, and the last time any professional team from Cleveland captured a championship
was more than 50 years ago. Media day 2015 was simply the first event of what should be an
undeniably eventful 2015 16 Cavs season. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be fair, the Cavs may never have another media day as wild as the 2014 version. LeBron James had
recently announced his return to Cleveland and Kevin Love was traded to Cleveland a little more than
a month later, forming the NBA s most recent Big 3 with dynamic point guard Kyrie Irving. Although
Irving and Love continue to recover from injuries that forced their exits in the 2015 playoffs, the Cavs
should be one of the favorites to win it all when both players reach optimal

Individualism In Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter And The...
The American Romantic era, lasting from early to mid 19th century, is characterized by its emphasis
on emotion and individualism. Within this movement, in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
and Herman Melville s Bartleby, The Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street, the characters set at the center
of their respective narratives both challenge societal prejudices through actions different from the
social norm. Hawthorne s protagonist, Hester Prynne, is met with disgust and disdain from the Puritan
community after committing only one sin; contrarily, Melville s Bartleby is first met with awe and
love from his boss on Wall Street, working as a copyist. While Hester goes above and beyond to
change her public image, Bartleby burns out, leaving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This woman has brought shame upon us all, and ought to die, (Hawthorne 49). With these harsh
words, Hester begins a new chapter of her life in New England as a condemned adulterer. The gossips
speak of marks and brands upon her bodice and forehead, and one is bold enough to suggest that she
ought to die, demonstrating exactly how hated Hester is at the beginning of the novel. Hawthorne s
statement that the gossip who suggests the worst punishment, death, is the ugliest of them all infers
that all the gossips are very ugly, while Hester remains beautiful, subtly providing a certain insight
that perhaps Hester is not the devil the town thinks she is. This demonstrates how Hester stands apart
from others in society, to such an extreme degree that she even looks different from the other Puritans.
Through the ostracization of Hester, Hawthorne shows how her lack of motivational individuality has
brought this fate upon her. He wants to prove to his reader that lack of this element creates an
unbalanced and isolated life, one of which nobody wants to live in. Following the time on the

Karzan Soundtrack
The Tarzan soundtrack stands out from the rest of the Disney line up as it was the first Disney
soundtrack to be recorded in multiple languages. It has won both an oscar and grammy. This is due to
Phil Colins influence on the music and his creation of original songs that shape the world of Tarzan.
The reason the sound in Tarzan works so well is because it s harmonious with the story being
presented to the audience. Besides setting the scene with background noise, it helps the audience to
understand the film on an emotional level and builds the characters.
Phil Colin contributions to the sound palette of the film includes drums and vocalizations that give it
an African aesthetic. The music follows the narrative, getting soft when needed, ... Show more content

This is most evident in the scene when Tarzan meets Jane for the first time. He mimics her in order to
communicate. For instance, when they hear a gun fire (47:57), Jane exclaims, Clayton. The gunshot is
heard once more and Tarzan says Clayton. When Jane ask Tarzan to take her to camp, he mimics the
gunfire sound, for Tarzan, Clayton is the sound of gunshot. This is seen again when Tarzan visits the
camp and Clayton fires his gun, Tarzan is able to identify Clayton because of his gun. (48 min) This
contributes to the audience understanding Clayton s violent nature. (1:08:47) After the crew hijacks
the ship, Clayton fires his gun, Tarzan calls out his name for assistance, Clayton says, Have we met? ,
but this time we see Clayton s villainous nature. (1:15:40) Then when Tarzan has Clayton cornered, he
feels conflicted about shooting Clayton. Clayton tries to laugh if off, we see Tarzan jam the gun
against Clayton s neck and hear gunfire, but when Clayton opens his eyes, he along with the audience
realizes that Tarzan just made the sound of gunfire. Unlike Clayton, who uses the gun to get what he
wants, Tarzan doesn t need to, he doesn t have a violent nature despite being raised in the

s Black Veil And Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God
Which author s style is more effective and why? Is Jonathan Edward s style of writing more effective
or is Hawthorne s style of writing more effective? Both writers have good styles of writing, however,
Hawthorne s style of writing is more effective because of his mysterious style of writing and
mysterious plot line. Hawthorne s text The Minister s Black Veil gives us a better understanding of
what the theme of the story is. Although, Edward s text Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God helps
readers easily figure out the theme of his text, but his style of writing does not help develop his theme
as much as Hawthorne s style of writing.
Both texts have one thing in common in their themes. They both talk about sin. The Minister s Black
Veil has a theme that is about everyone having a secret sin that they hide. Sinners in the Hands of an
Angry God has a theme that is about sinners provoking god and not ... Show more content on

Hawthorne has the better style of writing because of his mysterious style of writing that helps keep
readers interested and helps develop his theme along the way. Hawthorne s style of writing keeps
many people interested and keeps them reading. He uses that interest to also tell the reader his theme
that everyone has a secret sin that they hide. This is the type of style that keeps many people interested
in his story and helps develop the theme of his story.
While Hawthorne s style of writing is good many could argue that Edward s style of writing is better.
They might suggest that his harsh style of writing could better develop his theme and keep readers
interested. Some might even suggest that Edward s has a stronger theme and style than Hawthorne.
His style of writing helps readers understand his theme that god is provoked and we have done
nothing to abate his anger. Many people could argue that Edward s style and theme are even better at
convincing the reader that sin is

Working in factories, driving big trunks or ambulances, and others joins the front lines to help injured
soldiers. Since this war engulfed many nations, they confronted the impact of food shortages. Most
soldiers had endured with starvation. Meanwhile other workers and peasants endured low wages that
could barely buy food because of the black market. The deterioration kept rising, and soldiers were
starting to be embittered and so the civilians, too. Eventually, the oppressive of resentful led to
rebellions that Europe falls into turmoil. In 1919 1920, the Peace of Paris, the series of treaties was

social order, the treaties separated countries and created new countries, and because of the First War,
war furthered the development of mass society meaning that it leveled social classes...standardized
political thinking through wartime propaganda, and extended many political rights to women

Serial Killers
Dennis Nilson stated a mind can be evil without being abnormal . If this is the case, then what makes a
serial killer tick? The definition of a serial killer is; a series of two or more murders committed as
separate events usually, but not always, by one offender standing alone. (Brookes, 1988) Over the
years, many murderers have been given this term. From the early days of Jack the Ripper, to the most
recently publicized case of the sniper , all have different motives and reasons to the crimes that they
commit. Most of the serial killers suffer from mental illness/addictions or have had traumatic life
experiences. This is not always the case though; some can also be racially motivated. The typical

Malvo was sentenced to many life sentences without parole, and Muhammad was sentenced to the
death penalty. Both killers still have pending trials within other states.
Forensic Science
Forensic and DNA casework has been a major player in catching these cold blooded killers. Since
most investigators have to work from clues, they rely on these sources to lead them in the right
direction. Many findings such as, blood, weapons, hair, or any source of DNA can help put the puzzle
pieces of these cases together. This has solved many cases, and is a strong piece of evidence in the
judicial system.
Muhammad Malvoy, The Snipers In the sniper case, an anonymous caller (believed to be Muhammad)
told a priest to inform police to investigate a robbery in Alabama. When the police looked into the
robbery, part of the evidence Alabama s police force had found were a set of fingerprints from a
magazine. Further investigation proved these prints belongs to Malvo, who was already on file. Since
Malvo lived with Muhammad for a year in Washington, they were both linked together. After police
knew about Muhammad, they discovered he purchased an old police car in New Jersey. After
announcing to the public the type of vehicle to search for, it led to the capture of the two killers.

  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Parents There are many forms of parenting and as a parent myself, I am faced daily with decisions regarding my children. It s my beliefs and decision that should affect how I chose to parent them. However, in today s society how much slack are we as parents really given? We are sometimes forced into making parental decisions solely based on state laws and regulations. Parents are being held legally responsible for declining medical decisions regarding their children. Parent are also being intimidated by medical professionals for choosing not to vaccinate their children. Judges are ruling against legally fit parents for seeking second options. Parents should not be fighting the court system for medical rights. Nor should parents feel bullied by the government system. They should have the right to choose how they parent. There are many different parenting styles, who gets to dictate which is right? Not every family is the same, so why should the government be allowed to decide these rights and responsibilities. No two families share the same beliefs and religions. Parenting should not be a one size fits all. Parents should have the right to make medical and educational decisions for their children without government interference unless there is proof of neglect or abuse, because parents ultimately have their children best interest at heart. From the moment your child is born, they are immediately given a series of routine test, ointments, vaccines that unless its optional by the state you have no say in. Texas law requires health care providers apply antibiotic eye ointment to all newborns within two hours of birth. Antibiotic eye ointment is routinely been given to newborns. It s used to prevent neonatal conjunctivitis and complications such as blindness that can be contracted through the birth canal of untreated gonorrhea or chlamydia mothers. Refusing to comply is a Class B misdemeanor. Like any treatment, it comes with side effects. These can be minimal but can cause redness, itching, stinging, or burning of the eye after applying the eye ointments to newborns. The characters throughout Carver s Short Cuts struggle through their lives in private desperation, often to ultimately realize that they are bound to the truth of who they really are, which is shown in the story Neighbors. • 12. Eating Disorders As A Female Disorder ABSTRACT Eating disorders are one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the United States. Although this disease is typically viewed as a female disorder, males are greatly affected and may go undiagnosed and untreated due to the attached stigma. Thus, it is important to understand the risk factors associated with the development of eating disorders in males. These risk factors include: athletic involvement, sexual orientation, pre morbid obesity, and adverse childhood experiences. Eating disorder type and symptom presentation also varies between males and females. Males typically do not meet the criteria to be categorized as Anorexia Nervosa or Bulimia Nervosa, causing their condition to be classified as Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. Symptom presentation is likely to include binge eating and excessive exercise rather than restrictive eating, purging, or other compensatory methods commonly seen in the female population. Several eating disorder assessments are available for use in clinical practice, most of which have been geared toward the female gender. New assessments, such as the Eating Disorder Assessment for Males, have been developed recently to try to hone in on the typical male symptomatology and their psychological processes. In the beginning of this story, the first paragraph is a fantasy of the main character, Walter Mitty. It describes his life as a commander of an aircraft. The formalistic approach for analyzing this would be most appropriate in order to pick out the elements such as setting, irony, imagery and metaphorical factors. These are organized in such a way that the formatting consumes the story. In this tale, the first important element would be the introduction of the setting. Throughout the story, the author writes across multiple settings because of these flashbacks that he displays. The first setting would be on an airplane with two introductory characters; The Commander and Lieutenant Berg . This beginning setting is seen as a guessing game to begin with as the dialogue becomes the most prominent use in this introduction. Once the setting is described more clearly as the paragraph moves forward, the reader will grasp an understanding of where these two characters are. However, soon after the reader s mind may be clarified, the scene is interrupted with the dialogue of a new character, Mrs. Mitty. Not so fast! You re driving too fast! Said Mrs. Mitty. What are you driving so fast for? (Thurber 1). This is the first example one has of the basic structure that this story will set forth. Before understanding the correlation between current Brazilian beauty standards and racial whitening, I need to establish modern day beauty norms and epitomes in Brazil. The goal of many Brazilian women is to have lighter skin. This interest has sparked a rise in the use of skin lightening creams in Brazil. Skin whitening products are estimated at a three billion dollar industry worldwide (Charleston, 2016). Despite the dangers from the chemicals in such products, Brazilians continue to use them in order to achieve the societal construction of beauty. White and colored people continue to maintain the principle that lighter skin is more beautiful. A modern example of this unjust practice is Emma Watson s modeling for a Lancôme product. Watson was the face of a skin lightning product which promised pearl perfect whiteness (Charleston, 2016). Not only is the concept of changing skin colors to adapt to beauty standards unfair, the model they chose was naturally born very pale; So, it is a completely unattainable and unrealistic goal to have skin like her if the consumer is someone with a darker complexion. Experimental Research And Experimental Methods Experimental To be competitive as renewable energy recourse turbines in wave energy generation must be robust and economical for a number of years. Approaches utilize experiments to characterize and predict the effect of parameters involved. One of which is advancements to turbine blades due to unsteady hydrodynamic loads. Characterizing these loads can determine their fatigue life and determine a more reliable material to be used for manufacturing the blades avoiding premature failure. Reliability is necessary due to most renewable wave energy devices are being placed in remote locations where it is not economical to maintain or replace failed hardware. Turbulent flow across the turbine blade creates moments and bending of the blades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This loading in a circular motion is associated with yet another type of loading which is dynamic inflow. The objective of recent experiments is to study and experimentally quantify the unsteady loads on a horizontal axis turbine blade from turbulent forces with similar operating conditions in which the boundary layer is maintained along the edges of the blades. Therefore a new data set was to be obtained providing bending moment responses to oscillatory frequencies and velocity amplitudes. By performing a series of multi frequency and half sinusoidal experiments may demonstrate whether single frequency forcing could be applied to model these more general responses2. A recent article titled Blade Loading on Tidal Turbines for Uniform Unsteady Flow2 performs the experiment with valid materials and methods in order to better predict this phenomenon of turbulent loads and fatigue life along with the results of the experiment. Another recent experimental approach is decreasing cost per installed kilowatt. In order to utilize alternative energy such as wave energy it must be as cheap or as cost effective as current energy sources such as fossil fuels. Harnessing energy from alternative sources and then converting the energy into electrical energy would reduce the demand of current processes. There is no tourism to speak of and even people in the area have only a vague notion of the importance that their small town once held. In fact, in the fields to the east of the city was fought a battle that probably decided the direction of European (and thus Western) Civilization. The battle fought there was not just a clash of armies; it was a collision between religions, a testing ground for new tactics and a stage for larger than life personalities. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Pappenheim s defeated formations fell back, the rest of the Imperial cavalry attacked the Saxon army holding Gustavus left flank. The inexperienced (but apparently well dressed) Saxon infantry, which was formed into Tercios like their Catholic opponents were routed and fled the field in panic. Over 3000 of them were cut down by pursuing cavalry. The rout of the Saxons was a massive problem for Gustavus. This is where his adaptation of the linear formation saved him. In warfare such as this, the flanks are everything. If your flank is turned then your army must flee in order to avoid destruction. The Swedes, in their long lines of infantry, were able to pull their expose flank back faster than the slow moving Imperial Tercios (which had, at this point, not been involved in the attacks) were able to move around it. In modern terms, Adolphus refused his flank to the enemy. After securing his battered left flank, Gustavus struck from his right with his cavalry and his well disciplined infantry. It is worth mentioning the high level of training that the Swedish musketeers. They were trained to load and fire at a much higher rate than other musketeers of the time. The Swedes were much more dependent on firepower than other armies of the time and Gustavus attack tore the Imperial Tercios apart with musket and cannon fire. Sometime after the Swedish counterattack, Gustavus infantry captured most of the Catholic artillery pieces and because the Swedes were cross trained in other disciplines, they were able to add the weight of the captured cannons to their own attack. This added firepower was the last straw for the Catholic forces. They broke and ran for their lives. Thousands were cut down or captured in the ensuing pursuit (Rickard, 2000). Whether its is subways, buses, light rail transit (LRT) or a combination of the above, they all perform a crucial role in transporting people from one destination to the next. Since opening in 1954, Toronto s Transit Commission, also known as the TTC, has a system that just about cover every part of Toronto, with 4 subway/rapid transit lines, 143 bus and 11 streetcar routes in 2015, (TTC, 2015). Unfortunately, the TTC is still plagued with many problems, such as: unexplained delay and overcrowding, which decline the riderships and revenues (Curry, 2016; Hume, 2016). Furthermore the population of the greater toronto area (GTA) is expected to grow in the upcoming years, Toronto s transit system would not be ready for the increase in capacity (CrosstownTO, 2014). Therefore in order to increase the transit system s capacity and make it more appealing, more LRT/Bus lines would need to be built in the GTA due to their constructability, benefits to society and the environment, flexibility in suburbs and their low risks in meeting ridership goal. Constructability Planning and constructing a new transit system is simple and inexpensive task . They form a communion table and the chaplain is in the sacred space. Thus, according to Chivilis, listening well creates a space in which a truth can be spoken. It also revolves around their investigation of a terrorist threat in Kijuju, which is a fictional region in Africa (Snow, 2008: 1). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Representation is the act of portraying or depicting something (Merriam Webster s Online Dictionary 2014)). According to Stuart Hall, it means using language to say something meaningful about, or to present for the second time, the world meaningfully to the other people (Hall, 1997: 259). Hall further states that there is a fixed connection between power which he defines as the ability to control people or things, that can radiate from both dominant and the dominated (Hall, 1997: 261) and representation. In conclusion, Hall s idea is that in the context of representation, the circularity of power is critical. In Resident Evil 5, a number of things such as the African continent and the people living in it are represented as the other from the normal western society, which embodies relations of power in a sense that the power radiates from the normal western society towards the subordinate other, which in this context is the African continent and its people. • 31. Personal Responsibility Reflection Q1: How have your views on business and personal responsibility changed, if at all, over the course of the semester? Throughout the course of this semester, my views on business and personal responsibility changed drastically. While completing the corporate social responsibility assignment as well as reading about Bill Strickland s story and the Frontline Poisoned Waters video, I learned many new lessons on the importance of social responsibility. For starters, the corporate social responsibility project opened my eyes to all the positive impacts that large companies are making in the world. More specifically, for my project, I researched Marriott International. Initially, I was unaware of all the steps they take increase sustainability. Each year they take steps to cut down water waste, carbon emission and landfill waste. This is a very tall task because they own over six thousand properties. I was completely unaware that large companies similar to Marriott were concerned about the environment. Secondly, while reading Bill Strickland s Make the Impossible Possible I learned many helpful lessons. One thing that stuck with me was Bill s ambition to chase his dreams. While working with ceramics, he found something that he truly enjoyed, and he knew that crafting could help influence others too. Though he grew up in a poor, destructive neighborhood, he didn t let that stop him. When he finally opened up his first craftsman s guild I knew that he would have the ability to make it special. After expansion and reassessment, Bill was finally make his dream a reality by creating the beautiful Manchester Bidwell center. Although this was not an easy process, he stuck with it and can now be very proud of what he created. Lastly, he shows that people should never give up on their dreams and that people should give back to their community whenever possible. Lastly, the poisoned water video had a large impact on me. That video showed the results of what happens when companies aren t sustainable and let waste build up. The video showed examples of the waste accumulating in the Puget Sound as well as how farms are dealing with there waste problems. Doost, seeks to address the issues of how teachers and Universities are behind the power curve when it comes to teaching the Accounting Information Systems (AIS) course. He argues that lectures out of the textbook will no longer be beneficial if instructors do not include hands on training going forward. The emphasis on database and database management should be supplemented with relevant software and teaching material to make the course more meaningful and the efforts more fruitful . (Doost, 2002). This article is to illustrate how the incorporation of Microsoft Access into the AIS course provides an excellent demonstration into application and utility of database management systems. In the introductory section of this article, Doost elaborates on the many reasons why some of his fellow colleagues are having a rather difficult time teaching the AIS course effectively. He stated that in the past, Universities employed professors based on their interest in the course or having experience in the AIS field. Percy s obsession for power shows the lack of psychological development to gain emotion, becoming emotionally stunted and naive. Mrs. Dempster s saint archetype as seen by Dunstan is to an extreme degree, to the point where she seemingly does anything to help, often coming off as a miracle worker. Such archetypes have their effects on each individual s thoughts and behaviour, and the reason that Davies is able to represent these archetypes is due to the fact that these psychological characteristics take part in our everyday life in the people we meet. This allows the readers to better understand the characters as they are able to connect these characters with people they know in real life. These organisms convert sunlight to energy that is chemical, and this energy is in the form of sugar (Freedman 2013). The sugars from these organisms can be used as biofuels by fermenting the sugars (Bourne 2007). Some photosynthetic organisms are more efficient than others. Based on our reading, I found out that algae plants are the most efficient organism for biofuel because they do not have cellulose and lignin that sugarcane and corn both possess (Bourne 2007). Biofuels could eventually replace diesel fuels that we continuously use, and will soon run out of. Diesel fuels have been proven to damage the environment, and biofuels would help this issue. Biofuels would not be bad for the environment because they come straight from the environment, and with biofuels there would be no dangerous or bad chemicals released into the atmosphere. Each photosynthetic organism collects the sunlight in different ways because of their pigments (lab manual 2013). Different types of pigments in the organism absorb different wavelengths. The wavelength that travels the deepest in water is blue, which is 450 500nm. Before starting the experiment, my group was curious to what color of light would produce the biggest biomass, and what kind of pigment would be in our organism. Within this movement, in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter and Herman Melville s Bartleby, The Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street, the characters set at the center of their respective narratives both challenge societal prejudices through actions different from the social norm. Hawthorne s protagonist, Hester Prynne, is met with disgust and disdain from the Puritan community after committing only one sin; contrarily, Melville s Bartleby is first met with awe and love from his boss on Wall Street, working as a copyist. This woman has brought shame upon us all, and ought to die, (Hawthorne 49). With these harsh words, Hester begins a new chapter of her life in New England as a condemned adulterer. The gossips speak of marks and brands upon her bodice and forehead, and one is bold enough to suggest that she ought to die, demonstrating exactly how hated Hester is at the beginning of the novel. Hawthorne s statement that the gossip who suggests the worst punishment, death, is the ugliest of them all infers that all the gossips are very ugly, while Hester remains beautiful, subtly providing a certain insight that perhaps Hester is not the devil the town thinks she is. This demonstrates how Hester stands apart from others in society, to such an extreme degree that she even looks different from the other Puritans. Through the ostracization of Hester, Hawthorne shows how her lack of motivational individuality has brought this fate upon her. He wants to prove to his reader that lack of this element creates an unbalanced and isolated life, one of which nobody wants to live in. Following the time on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
