Segregation In Charter Schools
Charter schools are basically tax payer funded, independent public schools that are free from several
of the regulations and laws that traditional public schools are governed by. They are instead;
constrained by a contract that specifies the mission of the school, its academic goals and procedures
for accountability. The initial charter school was opened in 1992 as an answer to the restriction of
educational choice and the need to restructure the public education system. Most charter schools are
run by for profit organizations and compose the principle elements for the privatization shift in
education and their goals are increased academic achievement. Since charter schools are less restricted
by the normal regulations of traditional public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
High test scores equal improved academic success and charter schools use segregation as a method of
controlling the results of these standardized tests. One way that charter schools use segregation to
manipulate the outcome of test scores is by implementing a lottery system for admission. This
contributes to the weeding out of unambitious students within its applicants since they are not as likely
to even apply for admission. School choice was initially created as a way for schools to diversify,
regardless of the existing residential segregation. However, charter schools are able to pick and choose
which students are admitted and therefore, reduce the amount of low performing students from
attending, thus improving test scores. According to Ravitch (2010), Education researchers call this
skimming or cream skimming. It is a very effective way for a school to generate high test scores
regardless of the quality of its program (pg. 156). A consequence that results from this skimming is
that students of low income areas are being dumped into the traditional public schools and are not
allowed the equal opportunity of a better education which is a form of

The Fifth And Final Leadership Challenge
Leadership Challenge Five
Summary
The fifth and final leadership challenge is an inspirational message to readers who learn how to
Encourage the Heart of their followers. Kouzes Posner (2012) explain that, to further develop a highly
effective team, leaders must recognize contributions by showing appreciation for individual
excellence, and celebrate the values and victories by creating a spirit of community (p. 272). The
importance of a highly motivated team who feels appreciated should not be understated, and is an
integral aspect of organizational leadership. Kouzes Posner explain that to keep hope and
determination alive, leaders recognize contributions that individuals make. In every winning team, the
members need to share in the rewards of their efforts, so leaders celebrate accomplishments. They
make people feel like heroes (Kouzes Posner, 2016, about sec).
Recognizing the contributions of others requires leaders to expect the best from their team. When
leaders set the tone of high expectations the organization takes on an efficacious culture where
excellence is the established norm. A self fulfilling prophecy of high expectations envelopes the group
as a whole. Kouzes Posner write that Exemplary Leaders elicit high performance because they
strongly believe in the abilities of their constituents to achieve even the most challenging goals (p.
276).
Belief in the efficacy of others as a stand alone attribute is only a half measure. Kouzes Posner

Applications Of Low Power Integrated Intelligent Sensors
Applications of low power integrated intelligent sensors [1 5] has been prolific in recent years, for
instance in environmental observation [8 10], security surveillance [11] and infrastructure
communication [12], and biomedical and healthcare monitoring [6, 7]. In particular, as the baby
boomers enter retirement, medical cost becomes significant. For example, in 2014, health care
accounted for 20% of federal spending in the U.S. []. A major problem in current healthcare systems is
that sensing and processing medical data require significant resources. In order to alleviate this
problem, wearable medical devices are expected to provide automatic monitoring and processing of
physiology signals, and more importantly, identifying abnormal signals and contact medical systems
for help if necessary, as shown in Fig. 1. Although such sensors usually have wireless data
communication capability through body area network, due to limited battery power supply, sending
raw sensed data is usually not an option. This is because that in a wireless sensor, usually radio
communication power is much higher than signal processing power []. Thus, it is expected that the
sensors are capable of providing preprocessing of raw data based on DSP algorithms and just sending
the processed results. Such sensors are called intelligent sensors []. Besides the capability of signal
processing and wireless communication, low power, high accuracy, high reliability, and small
footprint are also listed as

Jamila Wignot Triangle Fire
The Triangle fire was released in 2006, produced by Jamila Wignot. The triangle fire was the result of
dangerous work conditions, neglected safety features and locked doors within the factory building.
The film maker had an agenda of how the film was presented. Order was present in the movie. The
film was trying to tell the world that because of careless behavior a lot of people died for no reason.
The fire was the result of careless behavior that cost a lot of people their lives. The film as evidence
had people who lived during the tringle fire talk about how the experience was. Some survivors who
lost family were telling their own stores. The survivors who survived were evidence enough to show
how accurate enough the film was. The film does

Explore the Ways in Which John Steinbeck Presents He...
Explore the ways in which John Steinbeck presents he character of Lennie in Of Mice and Men In this
essay I am going to be writing about one of the main characters in John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice
and Men . The story portrays the travels and arising problems of two migrant workers who share an
uncommon friendship for the time and environment in which the novella is set. Lennie Small is the
character I will be exploring and I will start off by giving a detailed explanation of his physical
appearance and behaviour. Second I will look at his and the other main character George s relationship
which will then be followed by Lennie s relationships with other characters throughout the book. I will
then go on to look at the foreshadowing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to Lennie s childlike mind set and George s fatherly role in Lennie s life the dream becomes
somewhat a bedtime story for Lennie. On several occasions Lennie pleads Come on George. Tell me.
Please, George. Like you did before. which further emphasises how much of a child he is due to the
fact it makes him calm, happy and almost settled as if he were an infant going to bed. It could also
portray the subconscious worries Lennie has so he feels the need to be reassured about their dream.
Lennie s relationships with other characters vary and progress throughout the novella. When Slim, the
jerkline skinner, is first introduced to Lennie and George he is taken aback by the oddness of their
relationship with each other. He immediately see s Lennie s lack of mentality and later on states to
George it seems kinda funny, a cuckoo like him and a smart guy like you travelling together which is
the first opinion Slim reveals towards Lennie. At first he only sees the childlike Lennie but after the
situation explained he understands and views Lennie in a completely different light. He s a nice fella,
guy don t need no sense to be a nice fella is a line which Steinbeck wrote to show clearly how Slim
respects and likes Lennie as it emphasises that he doesn t just see the absence of intelligence but the
nice guy hidden underneath the childish exterior. Even though Slim doesn t

The Characters of Shrek and Lord Farquaad Essay
The Characters of Shrek and Lord Farquaad
In this essay I am going to analyse the characters of Shrek and Lord Farquaad. I will also explore the
different presentational devices used by the film creators of Shrek to craft an unusual fairytale.
This film cost $6 million to produce. It is based on a traditional fairytale type story but subverted.
The film was produced by Dreamworks Steven Spielberg s production company. Dreamworks make
animated films. It has a rival animation company in the form of Disney. It was Disney who first
brought out a long animated film which was Snow White in the 1950 s.
The first computer generated animation was also brought out by Disney called Toy Story in ... Show

We are astonished as the viewers as we were expecting a conventional fairytale. There is a good use of
toilet humour and it is aimed at children or teenagers. We know right from the start that Shrek is a nice
character as he has a comical impact on the film. The sort of humour makes it different from normal,
conventional fairytales and also the big, ugly ogre would normally be a nasty creature but we know
straight away that this is not the case and he proves to be quite the contrary as the story unfolds.
At the beginning of the film Shrek tries to threaten the characters that he meets, but Donkey, the mice,
the storybook characters and Princess Fiona are not intimidated by him or his appearance. He tries to
make them frightened by reminding them that he s a scary, horrible monster. Although Shrek is an
ogre he is really nice deep down.
When the storybook characters arrive Shrek threatens to throw them all out of his swamp and back
where they came from. There is a close up shot of his mouth, this implicates that Shrek is going to eat
them or kill them and enhances the threat.
Shrek tries to frighten them by threatening them, by shouting at them and the close up shot of his
mouth develops the idea that Shrek is trying to be scary. The storybook characters applaud Shrek.

Standardized Testing Are A Waste Of Time Essay
Standardized Test Are a Waste of Time According to Diane Ravitch, Sometimes, the most brilliant and
intelligent minds do not shine in standardized tests because they do not have standardized minds. Her
point is that not every students mind operates the same way, so one test that all students must take
does not measure the student s actually abilities. Across the United States, standardized testing is a
popular method used to measure a student s academic ability and their college admission. These
exams have multiple choice questions and sometimes a writing section, which the examiners must
complete in a certain amount of time. Every year the tests get harder and harder, which causes anxiety
in the students. Standardized testing does not measure the skills students have learned and their
intelligence from school and life. The main purpose of testing is to set a standard and have a baseline
for the knowledge taught and students should know for everyone involved in the educational process,
such as teachers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schools should put more emphasis on the growth and development of a student, instead of ranking and
determining their worth based on test scores and grades. Standardized exams are an unreliable way to
grade students and prepare them for college. In addition, they do not teach or advocate life skills that
students need when they are developing and later on in life. As Albert Einstein has said, Everybody is
a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it
is stupid. Einstein s quote perfectly describes today s education system. Not everyone processes
information the same way or has the same talents; therefore, one test cannot measure a student s
abilities, talents, and

Enslow, 1994. Print. Nancy Day talks about the two unique perspectives of the generally discussed
subject of creature testing and altogether discusses the results of creature testing and experimentation
and furthermore the advantages we pick up and expand upon. Staying nonpartisan, she gives the
pursuer a decent opportunity to see where both sides are originating from additionally giving many
motivations to reject the other so that no inclination is affecting the pursuer s sentiment. Implied for

motivation behind giving the pursuer some data about what is going on with the goal that they can
choose for themselves which side in this warmed debate to take. This two sided pugnacious source
gives an alternate bend and draws in the pursuer to an unceasing fight while alternate sources are
exceptionally uneven and straightforwardly tending to the solid contradiction toward creature testing.

savagery and abuse yet after some exhaustive exploring, I found that there are a few advantages for

Paired Arthropods
The universality of body segments with paired appendages in arthropods indicates that at least some
parts of the developmental networks responsible for segmentation and appendage patterning cannot be
changed. Arthropods are developmentally constrained in that these networks must be conserved and in
that the networks for alternative appendage development do not exist. Variations in parts of the
developmental pathways responsible for segmentation and appendage patterning explain the
differences in body plan across the phylum. However, certain portions of the pathway must be
conserved, resulting in body segments with paired appendages in all arthropods. Research on the
developmental pathways that control segmentation in arthropods has shown that gene expression is
more highly conserved across the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, though the pattern of expression of pair rule genes may vary across arthropods, they are
consistently activated during development and play an important role in determining body segments
(Damen, 2007). Compared to genes further upstream in the segmentation pathway, pair rule genes are
highly conserved. The Notch/Delta system is much more divergent among arthropods (Damen, 2007).
Though Notch/Delta signaling plays an important role in Drosophila development, it is not greatly
involved in segmentation in Drosophila or other insects, but is very important in segmentation in
chelicerates (Damen, 2007). Additionally, while gap genes are crucial to determining segmentation in
insects, they play a much less significant role in non insect arthropods like chelicerates and myriapods
(Damen, 2007). Genes involved in appendage patterning in arthropods are also highly conserved. The

Comparing Lewis Definitions Of Lust And True Love
William Shakespeare (1564 1616) is regarded as a literary great, recognised for his many plays that
still feature in many educational syllabuses across the world. He has also received adulation for his
poetry and sonnets. This essay works on the basis that there are two individual specifications of love;
lust and true love. Definitions of these loves can be found embedded within several sonnets and will
be explored further on in this essay. Other types of love could also be distinguished and analysed
within Shakespeare s collection of sonnets, however, for the purposes of this composition to achieve
in depth analysis, the two most prevailing types of love will be focussed on. This essay will seek to

By using the phrase summer s day , the reader instantly has thoughts in their mind of all the wonderful
and positive things associated with this time of year; the warm sunshine, the pleasant smells, the long
and light days and the beautiful nature that comes into bloom at that time of year. It has been
commented that [sonnet] 18 plays on the proverbial comparative formula as good as one shall see in a
summer s day , meaning as good as the best there is .13 This reflects the feelings the speaker has
towards to recipient of his love and shows the beauty and warmth of his affections. Nature is also
considered be a gift from God, and with the following line Thou art more lovely and more temperate ,
the love, or Eros, the speaker feels is likened to be better than what some consider the most beautiful
scenario on the planet. This affirms the interpretation that Shakespeare feels Eros is transcendent. This
notion is continued throughout the sonnet, once again using nature as a reference point, Rough winds
shake the darling buds of May...but thy eternal summer will never fade . Summer appears fragile and
breakable, a sensitive form of beauty. However, the eternal summer , possibly meaning the internal
emotions and feelings of Eros that the speaker has for his love, will never fade and will span time

A Maori World
In the context of a Maori world view the role of women is different from that of women in European
culture; women played a key role in the collective of the whanau, hapu and iwi. There was no
hierarchy of the sexes. This is exemplified in the Maori language, where both the possessive and
personal pronouns are gender neutral.
Mana wahine is a theoretical and methodological approach that explicitly examines the intersection of
being Maori and female (Simmonds 11). Mana wahine isn t to be confused with Maori feminism, as
this may confuse ideas with the Western concept of feminism. Key elements included in mana wahine
are the concepts of whakapapa, wairua, and whanau (Hutchings 36). Many indigenous artists in
Aotearoa New Zealand engage with mana wahine as inspiration, some with ties to decolonisation.
These artists/designers use their work in reply to the dominant Pakeha culture and the history that is
shared. Art/design that engages with mana wahine is often linked to decolonisation narratives the
process by which the changes brought about under colonialism are undone. For mana wahine, it is a
reclamation of indigenous narratives, like Maori women s narratives in cosmology.
Audre Lorde wrote an essay for feminist postcolonial theory in which she muses that the women who
stand outside of this society s definition of acceptable women have to use the differences and become
strong from them (Lorde 26). The title of the essay is The Master s tools will never

Biology Of The Cannabis Genomic Research Initiative
Learning information has engaged and interested me throughout the courses I have taken; however,
the opportunity to discover new information through research is one of my most intellectually
stimulating experiences. With my goal to learn as much as possible under Dr. Nolan Kane, the
Professional Investigator of the Cannabis Genomic Research Initiative (CGRI), I have expanded my
traditional bench lab experience to bioinformatics, hemp breeding, and leading designing and
performing my own project examining differential protein expression in Cannabis. Although I am
deeply fascinated by a four letter code that encodes the human body, I am also providing myself the
freedom within my research to learn about other organisms and genetic diseases that I hope to treat
within my career.
My longest ongoing project began in October 2014 under the guidance of Dr. Daniela Vergara, a post
doctoral researcher of the CGRI, who helped another undergraduate student and I begin to
troubleshoot a protocol for a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The goal of this experiment was to
analyze variation between strains of Cannabis in a region of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) Synthase
Gene that was amplified by another research team s primer set. The published protocol was originally
unsuccessful when attempting to be reproduced. My colleague and I had applied for the
Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program Grant, which funded our research to determine a
successful protocol for this PCR. However, near

The Physical Importance Of Outdoor Recreation
Outdoor recreation, but more specifically a place attachment that can be associated with outdoor
recreation, has had a huge impact on my life. Throughout my childhood, my family and I would
constantly travel to many outdoor recreation locations including Myrtle Beach, Pinery Provincial
Park, and St. Jacobs Farmers Market. These places hold special meaning and an emotional bond for
me, because I associate them with youthfulness and happiness. While everybody views place
differently, people form emotional attachments and beliefs of these places based on different
specifications. According to Williams and Stewart (1998), individuals may feel a special connection to
a place based on its social or personal history, scenic beauty, or spiritual meaning (p. 22). To truly
understand the meaning of place and the importance of outdoor recreation, I recently took part in four
separate experiential activities at St. Jacobs Farmers Market in Waterloo, Ontario. After partaking in
four outdoor experiential episodes at St. Jacobs Farmers Market, I decided to create a time capsule of
my experience for people to open fifty years from now. The time capsule included post cards, photos
of my experience, and a few physical components that I found represented the market well and
represented the importance of outdoor recreation. One of the physical components was a maple sugar
candy to represent how maple was an important staple to Canadians, and how procuring maple syrup
is an activity that can

Comparison Of War And Dulce Et Decorum Est
Wilfred Owen s poem Dulce et Decorum Est and Lovelace s poem To Lucasta, Going to the Wars
have different perceptions of war. Owen explores the ideas of depressing and dark tones while
explaining his trauma were Lovelace tests his perspective of war through love and honor. These poets
express their ideas when using imagery and diction to convey depressing emotions and love.
Owen has uses imagery serveral times throughout his poem to explain his traumatic event. For
example, the narrator writes, Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! An ecstasy of fumbling, Fitting the clumsy
helmets just in the time. describes the idea of scared men in a panic try to put gas masks on. Also in
the sentence Wilfred uses the words clumsy helmets as a possible way of mocking them for not saving
his friend. Another example Wilfred writes, is the text, Dim, through the misty panes and thick green
light, As under a green sea, I saw him drowning. which paints a picture of Wilfred in a cloud of
smoke, barely seeing his friend die and also implying that there was nothing he could do because of
how he only describes he was blinded by the smoke. Overall, Wilfred uses imagery to create a
depressing tone when he is not able to save his friend. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through his writing, he chooses the words Sweet and Dear as a term of endearment to Lucasta. This is
showing his affection toward Lucasta but he also finds love in war as in honor and possibly honor

more. which is saying that even if he does love Lucasta, by using Dear , he will choose going to fight
in a war instead. The word choice of love and honour in the same sentence shows his debacle between
the two. To sum up, Richard Lovelace s specific word choice better defines his meaning of love and

How To Describe The Velvet Underground
5. The Velvet Underground Sister Ray
This classic rock song was a staple of The Velvet Underground s live shows. They often closed out
their set with Sister Ray, jamming out for up to thirty minutes, sometimes more. The studio recording
of it was a single take that lasts over seventeen minutes.
4. The Kingsmen Louie Louie
This song was a Richard Berry single from 1955, which The Kingsmen covered in 1963 at
Northwestern, Inc., Motion Pictures and Recording, located in Portland. Like many single take
recordings, the track contains an audible error just after the first guitar break. Jack Ely starts singing
the second verse too early and stopped himself short, creating a gap that drummer Lynn Easton
smoothly filled with a clever drum fill. The band actually weren t too thrilled with the first take, but
for some reason, that was the only one they did, and it became a classic rock song.

While recording their debut album Please Please Me The Beatles famously did a one off cover of The
Isley Brothers song Twist Shout. Recording 11 songs in only 10 hours, John Lennon s voice was
hurting, to say the least, on top of his having a cold at the time. Producer George Martin had left this
song for last, and though they attempted a second take, Lennon s voice was gone by them. It s also
rumored that Lennon chugged a glass of milk before the first take in an attempt to soothe his throat,
which gave his voice that extra raspiness audible on Twist Shout. It was the first take only in this case!

Debbie Purdy s Legal Case Study
Debbie Purdy s legal case illustrated a prime example of concerns over good quality of death. She
suffered from Multiple Sclerosis, a chronic disease that degenerates the body over time and attacks the
nervous central system. During her illness she launched a legal battle to clarify the law on assisted
suicide and in 2009 finally won a ruling allowing her husband to support her in ending her life, should
living become unbearable (BBC, 2014). Debbie argued that her personal experience with the reality of
the disease reinforced (her) conviction that we need to change the law and allow assisted dying when
life is unbearable (Purdy, 2015).

The European Convention on Human Rights protects the value of life and upholding individual s right
to life. However, this core value creates difficulties for the right of self determination, this is because
the right to life constricts a person s right to make autonomous decisions about his/her life (Tiensuu,
2015, p251). Which results in a paradox for the rights based argument the convention is primarily
based on. The idea behind having a right is that one can waive this right, if one wished. Therefore,
with assisted dying one is making a request to waive his/hers right to life, and this should be respected
(Singer, 1993, p195). A democratic government, as discussed in Chapter One, should protect all
liberties; this includes the liberty to make decisions about the end of your life. Until 1961, committing
suicide in England and Wales was considered a criminal act. The decriminalisation of suicide is used
by supporters of euthanasia as a tool to highlight the inconsistencies and discriminatory nature of the
legal system. If an individual is unable to take his own life, due to an illness or disability, and is
assisted this constitutes as a criminal

and other types of seeds and plants (Aruoma 2003). Biotechnological approaches have been used to
facilitate the conservation and sustainable employment of the genetic diversity of the medicinal plants.
Biotechnological approaches commonly used are such as micropropagation, axillary shoot
proliferation, organogenesis, somatic embryogenesis and other cell culture (Gupta et al. 2010). Plant
tissue culture has been widely employed for to efficiently and rapidly multiply and preserve genetic
stability of the plant material. Plant tissue culture has offered a viable solution for the production of
phytochemicals through mass production of consistent plant material for physiological
characterization and analysis of active ingredients (Arora 2010). It has been reported that the
production of secondary metabolites is higher in differentiated tissues than intact plants (Smith 2013).
Thus, several attempts have been made to generate shoot and

Effectiveness of Fiscal Policy as a Stabilization Tool
The Effectiveness of Fiscal Policy as Stabilization Policy
Alan J. Auerbach University of California, Berkeley July 2005
This paper was presented at the Bank of Korea International Conference, The Effectiveness of
Stabilization Policies, Seoul, May 2005. I am grateful to my discussants, Takatoshi Ito and Chung Mo
Koo, and other conference participants for comments on an earlier draft.
I. Introduction
Perspectives among economists on the usefulness of fiscal policy as a device for macroeconomic
management have moved back and forth over the years. Belief in the active use of the tools of fiscal
policy may have reached a relative peak sometime during the 1960s or early 1970s, and practice
followed theory. In the United States, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, one might wish to announce that the ITC would be eliminated in the future, to spur
investment today, but once the future arrived, and today s investment had already taken place,
2
it might no longer be optimal to repeal the credit. Hence, in addition to the policy lags that made the
implementation of policy difficult, one was confronted with two major additional obstacles: first, to
figure out how to evaluate potential policies and, second, to recognize that agents react not to policies
that are announced, but to policies that are expected. To these three hurdles, policy lags, model
instability, and dynamic inconsistency, the literature added several others. There was, of course, the
problem that estimates of behavioral responses to fiscal policy were just that estimates of parameters,
not the parameters themselves. Even with a stable model, i.e., one based on exogenous taste and
technology parameters, uncertainty about model parameters militated against activism, as shown by
Brainard (1967). Moreover, determining the right behavioral model is a difficult task, given that all
models involve simplifying assumptions, and some models of household and firm decisions suggested
that fiscal policy changes would be ineffective. For example, there has been a long debate in the
investment literature about the importance of the user cost of capital as a determinant of investment,
relating to such

Personal Narrative-Homosexuality
all my life, i ve been told that i don t exist. pansexuality? it s a foreign concept to many, but for me, it
s my entire reality. it s sewn into me with star bright, skin tight stitches, something i can t avoid seeing
and feeling and having, and yet yet other people can t perceive it, can t understand it, can t even begin
to comprehend its existence. it s strange, really; sometimes i hate it for being a part of me, so complex
and so obscure and so goddamn unknown, but i never have the heart to tear those threads apart never.
after all, it d be like unravelling the fabric of my very own soul, uncurling the lifelines holding my

still, no one i associated with in real life was queer, and still no one could truly understand what it felt
like. still, i was detached and isolated and completely and utterly alone, and still i was stuck in a
suffocating community of religious extremists and intolerant homophobes. so you can only imagine
my ecstacy about a year after i d come out, when A and i had been speaking into the night about god
knows what and then, and then she d come out as pan too. as i write this, her coming out had only
been a week ago, so it s almost burned into the back of my eyelids. i d been fucking euphoric at the
time, which wasn t so good, because whenever i m happy, i tend to forget the details and feelings of a
particular moment. luckily, at 5am, a delirious and joyful me had charged my phone and written it out,
spilled my every sentiment onto a blank note page, detailed the entire event in what it meant to me, all
in the form of a narrative; after all, creative writing is one of my passions, and i felt a carnal longing to
capture the beauty of that moment somewhere. and here it

1930s Migrant Worker
A migrant worker is a casual and unskilled worker who moves about...from one region to another
offering their services on a temporary...basis . (Migrant Labour) In the 1930s a variety of events led to
hundreds of thousands of people becoming migrant workers. The sudden influx of people couldn t be
properly accommodated which led to the degradation of this group of people. The life of a migrant
worker was one filled with hardships and obstacles. The 1930s was a time of negativity for many
types of people. The country s economy was at a disparagingly low state due to the crash of the stock
market. Banks went into bankruptcy, businesses recorded all time lows, and people had massive
amounts of debt. Companies couldn t afford to have many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

unwelcoming locals who also, beat up migrants, accusing them of being Communists, and burned

The Undeniable Influence of Kanye West
The Undeniable Influence of Kanye West Kanye Omari West, an icon of hip hop, pop culture, fashion
and music in general. Kanye Omari West, a person belittled against and a person subjected to a life of
racism and hate. Born on June 8th, 1977, Donda West, West s mother, always knew he was destined
for greatness, but did she know her son would turn out to be the Kanye West, a man lacking the
respect he deserves for transforming a big part of the music we listen to on this very day? West came
onto the scene in the late nineties but didn t release The College Dropout until 2004, an album that
took everybody by surprise. Kanye West changed the gangster filled rap genre by releasing his

By using the bear alone Mr. West turned Ralph Lauren onto the masses of rappers and fans (Kanye
West: The Evolution of an Icon s Clothes). As stated by West, he is the most influential person in
fashion in the last ten years . That statement very well may be true. West is always in the public eye
showing off his new outfits. These outfits are then turned over to the masses where people take
inspiration from them. Many people like to mimic and dress after their favorite celebrity but it seems
West has started an empire of clothing, striking deals with A.P.C., Nike, and Adidas seemingly
creating some type of sub genre to clothing called streetwear . West has been inspiring and influencing
the way rappers and the regular population dress since the days he wore a bear on his shirt. Newer
staples of West s fashion are tighter fitting clothes, leather, and suits. These types of materials and
clothing are undoubtedly a new trend in the hip hop community and industry all courtesy to Kanye
Omari West (C.M., Emmanuel). Rap with introspective, thought provoking lyrics never really
dominated the industry. The type of rappers who wrote about these kinds of things were usually more
underground artists and generally called backpack rappers and their fans, backpackers . It s not to say
rappers in the mainstream never talked about varying subjects, it was just never their primary focus.

Women In The Roaring 20 s
Ah, the roaring 20´s. A decade where dancing, drinking and having fun were the most important
things.
It was the post WW1 era, and people were happier than ever. The stock market rose and people had
very high living standards.
American (and non american) women started to liberate from men. They could now vote, play sports,
have jobs and have their own money. And as the old thoughts of women dissapeared, so did the ideal
type of woman and the beauty standards. In less than ten years, it changed clompetly.
The corsetted woman figure (known as S figure) dissapeared and was sustituted by a boyish, flat
figure. And because of this, dresses also changed. They were now tube shaped and they were shorter
too, ending above the knees.
Film stars like Louise Brooks (who I am going to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

They had an appreciation for the minimal look, cubism and women depicted in Grecian art. They also
had ethnic and oriental influences. The discovering of Tutankamon caused an Egyptomania among
people, which leads me to the next point: the potions women used in the 20´s.
Women used products like the ones from the brand we studied in this lesson, but what catched my
attention was another muggle brand: Palmolive. You will think, Well, that´s a muggle brand, why are
you talking about it?
And I will answer your question. I am talking about it because it wasn´t so muggle after all.
This brand emerged along with the Egyptomania. Its slogan said: Youth charm . When I read it, I
decided to investigate it a little bit. And what I found was that Palmolive´s creator was a potioneer. He
sold his products at an economic price to muggles, adding only a little quantity of magic ingredients.
Muggles were absolutely impressed with this products so they started to buy it more and more.
And now I am going to move to the next and last point: a person who exemplified the beauty
standards of American

White Tulip Ethical Dilemmas
In the TV series Fringe the Episode White Tulip you see many ethical issues as I m sure throughout
the series. However, this particular episode offers some great moment to sit back and reflect, but not
for long because before you know it you re watching something completely new and possibly and yet
another ethical question comes up. Our main character Walter has his own backstory that is ethically
questionable but not the topic of my essay, rather what Alistair peck does with his interactions with
Walter. Alistair not only went on with his jump through time but them sent a message to Walter as if
he were g d, almost as if he knew that g d took his fiancé from him the first time. Time, a phenomenon
that everyone takes for granted. Student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Granted Walter did live the guilt for the rest of his life. The interesting thing is Walter didn t believe in
g d until later in life. Once Walter realized that he had done something wrong he started to ask
forgiveness from g d in the form of a white tulip. Interesting that he chose a white tulip? The white
tulip has several significant meanings, the most significant one being forgiveness. Obvious that Walter
is asking for forgiveness and the flower represents what he asks for the most. Interesting enough the
flower also symbolizes love, innocence, and rebirth. Could the flower be a reminder to Walter that he
did what he did because he loved his son, and though what he did was completely innocent. Walter
could also be looking for new rebirth of love and a relationship between him and his son. Is it fair to
claim for Walter to claim innocence though, after all he knew what he was doing when he was doing
he made the choice to travel through time. I think while what he did was wrong he was making the
steps to correct it and looking for forgiveness, but he wanted a sign from g d and this is where Alistair
comes in. Alistair, who kills people every time he goes through time and justifies it by stating that
when he goes back for his fiancé they will

Voter Turnout Decline in the United States Essay
The United States national elections have been experiencing a steady decline of eligible voters
showing up to vote. This steady decline has been ongoing since experiencing a significant increase in
voter turnout from 1948 through 1960. Over the years there has been significant, meticulous research
done to try to pinpoint the cause of the decline in voter turnout over years. All of this research has led
to the production of an enormous number of literatures written on the perceived causes. The vast
amount of literature produced has led to a number of competing explanations about this decline. The
quest for the answer to the question of, why this decline in voter turnout, is very important for an
overwhelming majority of Americans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, I feel it is similarly important to this paper to address what the true definition and what I
mean when I use the term, national election. Through this paper I use the term, national elections,
which refers to the presidential and congressional elections in the United States. Also, by studying the
percentage of voter turnout in every national election, we determine if voter turnout is declining by, A
country is considered to have declining turnout if its average percentage levels in the last three
decades have decreased by more than 2% compared to those of the first three decades (Ferrini, 2012).
Given that the US does meet this criteria, lets get into analyzing these competing theories. The voter
barrier explanation for the decline in voter turnout in US national elections was researched and
analyzed by, Fair Vote The Center for Voting and Democracy, organization. They classify these
barriers as being registration and the scheduling of elections during the workweek that intensify the
disparity in turnout between low and high income voters (Fair Vote, 2012). Given that Fair Vote does
recognize and acknowledge that this is not the only problem that has affected voter turnout to decline,
they do believe that it plays a substantial role in it. However, not only do they state that these

Pretty Little Liars Narrative
I saved the highlight of my life for last. October 11th 2015 was the best day of my entire existence.
However before we get to that let us begin with a little bit of a backstory to why this day was amazing.
Ninety nine point nine percent of the general public knows that I have an unhealthy obsession with
Pretty Little Liars like I am crazy when it comes to this T.V. show. On my birthday my stepdad and
mother had gotten Ciarra and I tickets to this event called PaleyFest, which was a live questions and
answers panel with the cast. I screamed and cried so hard that even my mom was shocked. When the
actual day came I could not stand still or shut up about my excitement. Ciarra and I arrived at the
venue really early we were approximately the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ciarra and I could not stop laughing over her actions. We take our seats and wait for the panel to start.
Before the panel started the V.I.P guests took their seats and I was immediately star struck, Troian
Bellisario s (One of the main cast members and my favorite actress on the show) fiancée sat right in
front of Ciarra and I and I could not stop squealing. He turned around and began having conversation
with everyone and of course I wanted to say something but I was star stud so no words physically
came out so whatever. After what felt like years of waiting the cast finally came out and again I was
star struck I have never been that close to the women that make my life complete. During the panel I
screamed, cried and laughed mostly crying but that is beside the point. When the panel ended
everyone rushed outside to take pictures of the cast leaving hoever the cast was still on stage taking
promotional pictures doe the official Pretty little Liars social media

Differences Between The Flood And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
When examining the story of the Biblical flood, it is essential to point out that there are other flood
stories in Ancient Near Eastern cultures. In fact, there are up to sixty eight different cultures with
stories of a great flood! It is important for one to see how each flood story affects and influences one
another. For example, it is evident that the Babylonian culture influenced the writer of the Biblical
flood story, which was made hundreds of years after the making of the Babylonian story. One of the
greatest examples of this is in The Epic of Gilgamesh , a Babylonian story that includes the tale of
Utnapishtim, a man some would like to say is similar to the character Noah in a few ways. Both men
are ultimately called upon by a being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated in the article Background Info on the Flood Stories , each story has unique elements, and the
differences from the Biblical story are often more striking than the similarities . For example, in the
Atrahasis Epic, one of the gods in the story punishes humanity because of the amount of noise made.
Additionally, in The Epic of Gilgamesh, the god Enlil destroys the city where Utnapishtim is living
in(presumably furious with mankind). In the Genesis Flood Story, the Yahwist version depicts YHWH
as regretting His creation, while the Priestly version depicts God as tired of human evil and corruption.
In all three stories, the different gods send the flood for similar reasons; they are either angry or
annoyed by humanity. However, this is where the similarities end. The god in the Book of Genesis
floods the world in the pursuit of justice/regret, while the god in Atrahasis is angry for a less
significant offense. Though flooding the world is an unjustified action, it is interesting that a god
would be irritated enough at noise to want to eradicate humanity. These stories are all more intriguing
when compared because it helps us to better understand the motivations of each being that causes the
flood event.Again, in the article Background Info on the Flood Stories , the author talks about how
each of these stories have a different religious interpretation than the

Mock Interview Essay
I actually enjoyed doing this mock interview. During the mock interview, overall I felt pretty
comfortable and confident. I think the biggest thing I learned from the mock interview is to give more
detail in my responses to the interviewer s questions. When answering a question from the interviewer
I should answer the question just as if I was writing it in an essay. Restate the question but with an
answer, give a reason or example to support my answer, and then conclude my response by tying the
information together. Good listening and eye contact are a few communication skills came into play
during my interview. I also learned that I have to be more direct when answering a question and state
more evidence to support my answers. If I answer

  • 2. Segregation In Charter Schools Charter schools are basically tax payer funded, independent public schools that are free from several of the regulations and laws that traditional public schools are governed by. They are instead; constrained by a contract that specifies the mission of the school, its academic goals and procedures for accountability. The initial charter school was opened in 1992 as an answer to the restriction of educational choice and the need to restructure the public education system. Most charter schools are run by for profit organizations and compose the principle elements for the privatization shift in education and their goals are increased academic achievement. Since charter schools are less restricted by the normal regulations of traditional public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... High test scores equal improved academic success and charter schools use segregation as a method of controlling the results of these standardized tests. One way that charter schools use segregation to manipulate the outcome of test scores is by implementing a lottery system for admission. This contributes to the weeding out of unambitious students within its applicants since they are not as likely to even apply for admission. School choice was initially created as a way for schools to diversify, regardless of the existing residential segregation. However, charter schools are able to pick and choose which students are admitted and therefore, reduce the amount of low performing students from attending, thus improving test scores. According to Ravitch (2010), Education researchers call this skimming or cream skimming. It is a very effective way for a school to generate high test scores regardless of the quality of its program (pg. 156). A consequence that results from this skimming is that students of low income areas are being dumped into the traditional public schools and are not allowed the equal opportunity of a better education which is a form of ... • 3. The Fifth And Final Leadership Challenge Leadership Challenge Five Summary The fifth and final leadership challenge is an inspirational message to readers who learn how to Encourage the Heart of their followers. Kouzes Posner (2012) explain that, to further develop a highly effective team, leaders must recognize contributions by showing appreciation for individual excellence, and celebrate the values and victories by creating a spirit of community (p. 272). The importance of a highly motivated team who feels appreciated should not be understated, and is an integral aspect of organizational leadership. Kouzes Posner explain that to keep hope and determination alive, leaders recognize contributions that individuals make. In every winning team, the members need to share in the rewards of their efforts, so leaders celebrate accomplishments. They make people feel like heroes (Kouzes Posner, 2016, about sec). Recognizing the contributions of others requires leaders to expect the best from their team. When leaders set the tone of high expectations the organization takes on an efficacious culture where excellence is the established norm. A self fulfilling prophecy of high expectations envelopes the group as a whole. Kouzes Posner write that Exemplary Leaders elicit high performance because they strongly believe in the abilities of their constituents to achieve even the most challenging goals (p. 276). Belief in the efficacy of others as a stand alone attribute is only a half measure. Kouzes Posner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Applications Of Low Power Integrated Intelligent Sensors Applications of low power integrated intelligent sensors [1 5] has been prolific in recent years, for instance in environmental observation [8 10], security surveillance [11] and infrastructure communication [12], and biomedical and healthcare monitoring [6, 7]. In particular, as the baby boomers enter retirement, medical cost becomes significant. For example, in 2014, health care accounted for 20% of federal spending in the U.S. []. A major problem in current healthcare systems is that sensing and processing medical data require significant resources. In order to alleviate this problem, wearable medical devices are expected to provide automatic monitoring and processing of physiology signals, and more importantly, identifying abnormal signals and contact medical systems for help if necessary, as shown in Fig. 1. Although such sensors usually have wireless data communication capability through body area network, due to limited battery power supply, sending raw sensed data is usually not an option. This is because that in a wireless sensor, usually radio communication power is much higher than signal processing power []. Thus, it is expected that the sensors are capable of providing preprocessing of raw data based on DSP algorithms and just sending the processed results. Such sensors are called intelligent sensors []. Besides the capability of signal processing and wireless communication, low power, high accuracy, high reliability, and small footprint are also listed as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The triangle fire was the result of dangerous work conditions, neglected safety features and locked doors within the factory building. The film maker had an agenda of how the film was presented. Order was present in the movie. The film was trying to tell the world that because of careless behavior a lot of people died for no reason. The fire was the result of careless behavior that cost a lot of people their lives. The film as evidence had people who lived during the tringle fire talk about how the experience was. Explore the ways in which John Steinbeck presents he character of Lennie in Of Mice and Men In this essay I am going to be writing about one of the main characters in John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men . The story portrays the travels and arising problems of two migrant workers who share an uncommon friendship for the time and environment in which the novella is set. Lennie Small is the character I will be exploring and I will start off by giving a detailed explanation of his physical appearance and behaviour. Second I will look at his and the other main character George s relationship which will then be followed by Lennie s relationships with other characters throughout the book. I will then go on to look at the foreshadowing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to Lennie s childlike mind set and George s fatherly role in Lennie s life the dream becomes somewhat a bedtime story for Lennie. On several occasions Lennie pleads Come on George. Tell me. Please, George. Like you did before. which further emphasises how much of a child he is due to the fact it makes him calm, happy and almost settled as if he were an infant going to bed. It could also portray the subconscious worries Lennie has so he feels the need to be reassured about their dream. Lennie s relationships with other characters vary and progress throughout the novella. When Slim, the jerkline skinner, is first introduced to Lennie and George he is taken aback by the oddness of their relationship with each other. He immediately see s Lennie s lack of mentality and later on states to George it seems kinda funny, a cuckoo like him and a smart guy like you travelling together which is the first opinion Slim reveals towards Lennie. At first he only sees the childlike Lennie but after the situation explained he understands and views Lennie in a completely different light. He s a nice fella, guy don t need no sense to be a nice fella is a line which Steinbeck wrote to show clearly how Slim respects and likes Lennie as it emphasises that he doesn t just see the absence of intelligence but the nice guy hidden underneath the childish exterior. We are astonished as the viewers as we were expecting a conventional fairytale. There is a good use of toilet humour and it is aimed at children or teenagers. We know right from the start that Shrek is a nice character as he has a comical impact on the film. The sort of humour makes it different from normal, conventional fairytales and also the big, ugly ogre would normally be a nasty creature but we know straight away that this is not the case and he proves to be quite the contrary as the story unfolds. At the beginning of the film Shrek tries to threaten the characters that he meets, but Donkey, the mice, the storybook characters and Princess Fiona are not intimidated by him or his appearance. He tries to make them frightened by reminding them that he s a scary, horrible monster. Although Shrek is an ogre he is really nice deep down. When the storybook characters arrive Shrek threatens to throw them all out of his swamp and back where they came from. There is a close up shot of his mouth, this implicates that Shrek is going to eat them or kill them and enhances the threat. Standardized Testing Are A Waste Of Time Essay Standardized Test Are a Waste of Time According to Diane Ravitch, Sometimes, the most brilliant and intelligent minds do not shine in standardized tests because they do not have standardized minds. Her point is that not every students mind operates the same way, so one test that all students must take does not measure the student s actually abilities. Across the United States, standardized testing is a popular method used to measure a student s academic ability and their college admission. These exams have multiple choice questions and sometimes a writing section, which the examiners must complete in a certain amount of time. Every year the tests get harder and harder, which causes anxiety in the students. Standardized testing does not measure the skills students have learned and their intelligence from school and life. Paired Arthropods The universality of body segments with paired appendages in arthropods indicates that at least some parts of the developmental networks responsible for segmentation and appendage patterning cannot be changed. Arthropods are developmentally constrained in that these networks must be conserved and in that the networks for alternative appendage development do not exist. Variations in parts of the developmental pathways responsible for segmentation and appendage patterning explain the differences in body plan across the phylum. • 13. A Maori World In the context of a Maori world view the role of women is different from that of women in European culture; women played a key role in the collective of the whanau, hapu and iwi. There was no hierarchy of the sexes. This is exemplified in the Maori language, where both the possessive and personal pronouns are gender neutral. Mana wahine is a theoretical and methodological approach that explicitly examines the intersection of being Maori and female (Simmonds 11). Mana wahine isn t to be confused with Maori feminism, as this may confuse ideas with the Western concept of feminism. Key elements included in mana wahine are the concepts of whakapapa, wairua, and whanau (Hutchings 36). Many indigenous artists in Aotearoa New Zealand engage with mana wahine as inspiration, some with ties to decolonisation. These artists/designers use their work in reply to the dominant Pakeha culture and the history that is shared. Art/design that engages with mana wahine is often linked to decolonisation narratives the process by which the changes brought about under colonialism are undone. For mana wahine, it is a reclamation of indigenous narratives, like Maori women s narratives in cosmology. Throughout my childhood, my family and I would constantly travel to many outdoor recreation locations including Myrtle Beach, Pinery Provincial Park, and St. Jacobs Farmers Market. These places hold special meaning and an emotional bond for me, because I associate them with youthfulness and happiness. While everybody views place differently, people form emotional attachments and beliefs of these places based on different specifications. According to Williams and Stewart (1998), individuals may feel a special connection to a place based on its social or personal history, scenic beauty, or spiritual meaning (p. 22). To truly understand the meaning of place and the importance of outdoor recreation, I recently took part in four separate experiential activities at St. Jacobs Farmers Market in Waterloo, Ontario. After partaking in four outdoor experiential episodes at St. Jacobs Farmers Market, I decided to create a time capsule of my experience for people to open fifty years from now. The time capsule included post cards, photos of my experience, and a few physical components that I found represented the market well and represented the importance of outdoor recreation. The European Convention on Human Rights protects the value of life and upholding individual s right to life. However, this core value creates difficulties for the right of self determination, this is because the right to life constricts a person s right to make autonomous decisions about his/her life (Tiensuu, 2015, p251). Which results in a paradox for the rights based argument the convention is primarily based on. The idea behind having a right is that one can waive this right, if one wished. Therefore, with assisted dying one is making a request to waive his/hers right to life, and this should be respected (Singer, 1993, p195). The compounds play important role in plant life cycle starting from protection from predators, for instance, alkaloids, from stress and in reproduction by attracting pollinators. These secondary metabolites produced by the plants have various bioactive properties and used to treat various diseases. There are many sources which are rich in bioactive compounds, especially herbal plants like A. paniculata. Other examples are rosemary, sage, shells, oats, rice, locorice, thyme, mustard leaf seed and other types of seeds and plants (Aruoma 2003). Biotechnological approaches have been used to facilitate the conservation and sustainable employment of the genetic diversity of the medicinal plants. Biotechnological approaches commonly used are such as micropropagation, axillary shoot proliferation, organogenesis, somatic embryogenesis and other cell culture (Gupta et al. 2010). Plant tissue culture has been widely employed for to efficiently and rapidly multiply and preserve genetic stability of the plant material. Plant tissue culture has offered a viable solution for the production of phytochemicals through mass production of consistent plant material for physiological characterization and analysis of active ingredients (Arora 2010). It has been reported that the production of secondary metabolites is higher in differentiated tissues than intact plants (Smith 2013). Thus, several attempts have been made to generate shoot and ... • 22. Effectiveness of Fiscal Policy as a Stabilization Tool The Effectiveness of Fiscal Policy as Stabilization Policy Alan J. Auerbach University of California, Berkeley July 2005 This paper was presented at the Bank of Korea International Conference, The Effectiveness of Stabilization Policies, Seoul, May 2005. I am grateful to my discussants, Takatoshi Ito and Chung Mo Koo, and other conference participants for comments on an earlier draft. I. Introduction Perspectives among economists on the usefulness of fiscal policy as a device for macroeconomic management have moved back and forth over the years. Belief in the active use of the tools of fiscal policy may have reached a relative peak sometime during the 1960s or early 1970s, and practice followed theory. In the United States, ... For example, one might wish to announce that the ITC would be eliminated in the future, to spur investment today, but once the future arrived, and today s investment had already taken place, 2 it might no longer be optimal to repeal the credit. Hence, in addition to the policy lags that made the implementation of policy difficult, one was confronted with two major additional obstacles: first, to figure out how to evaluate potential policies and, second, to recognize that agents react not to policies that are announced, but to policies that are expected. To these three hurdles, policy lags, model instability, and dynamic inconsistency, the literature added several others. There was, of course, the problem that estimates of behavioral responses to fiscal policy were just that estimates of parameters, not the parameters themselves. Even with a stable model, i.e., one based on exogenous taste and technology parameters, uncertainty about model parameters militated against activism, as shown by Brainard (1967). Moreover, determining the right behavioral model is a difficult task, given that all models involve simplifying assumptions, and some models of household and firm decisions suggested that fiscal policy changes would be ineffective. For example, there has been a long debate in the investment literature about the importance of the user cost of capital as a determinant of investment, relating to such ... And as the old thoughts of women dissapeared, so did the ideal type of woman and the beauty standards. In less than ten years, it changed clompetly. The corsetted woman figure (known as S figure) dissapeared and was sustituted by a boyish, flat figure. And because of this, dresses also changed. Could the flower be a reminder to Walter that he did what he did because he loved his son, and though what he did was completely innocent. Walter could also be looking for new rebirth of love and a relationship between him and his son. Given that the US does meet this criteria, lets get into analyzing these competing theories. The voter barrier explanation for the decline in voter turnout in US national elections was researched and analyzed by, Fair Vote The Center for Voting and Democracy, organization. They classify these barriers as being registration and the scheduling of elections during the workweek that intensify the disparity in turnout between low and high income voters (Fair Vote, 2012). • 31. Differences Between The Flood And The Epic Of Gilgamesh When examining the story of the Biblical flood, it is essential to point out that there are other flood stories in Ancient Near Eastern cultures. In fact, there are up to sixty eight different cultures with stories of a great flood! It is important for one to see how each flood story affects and influences one another. For example, it is evident that the Babylonian culture influenced the writer of the Biblical flood story, which was made hundreds of years after the making of the Babylonian story. One of the greatest examples of this is in The Epic of Gilgamesh , a Babylonian story that includes the tale of Utnapishtim, a man some would like to say is similar to the character Noah in a few ways. As stated in the article Background Info on the Flood Stories , each story has unique elements, and the differences from the Biblical story are often more striking than the similarities . For example, in the Atrahasis Epic, one of the gods in the story punishes humanity because of the amount of noise made. Additionally, in The Epic of Gilgamesh, the god Enlil destroys the city where Utnapishtim is living in(presumably furious with mankind). In the Genesis Flood Story, the Yahwist version depicts YHWH as regretting His creation, while the Priestly version depicts God as tired of human evil and corruption. In all three stories, the different gods send the flood for similar reasons; they are either angry or annoyed by humanity. However, this is where the similarities end. The god in the Book of Genesis floods the world in the pursuit of justice/regret, while the god in Atrahasis is angry for a less significant offense. Though flooding the world is an unjustified action, it is interesting that a god would be irritated enough at noise to want to eradicate humanity. These stories are all more intriguing when compared because it helps us to better understand the motivations of each being that causes the flood event.Again, in the article Background Info on the Flood Stories , the author talks about how each of these stories have a different religious interpretation than the ...
