Pablo Picasso Symbolism
First draft

Pablo Picasso painter
Pablo Picasso was the most important artist of the first half of the twentieth century. He also made
collage and made major offerings to refer to Symbolism and Surrealism. Symbolism means to
represent ideas or qualities. Surrealism is a cultural movement that began in the early 1920s, and is
best known for its visual artworks and writings. The aim was to resolve the clashing conditions of
dream and reality.
He was a painter, he was a famous figure, he was greatly effective and he also discovered areas as
different as printmaking and ceramics. Picasso used different styles in different periods. Finally,
this essay will talk about Picasso reputation.

In France, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and their School of Paris friends blended the highly
stylized treatment of the human figure in African sculptures with painting styles derived from the
post Impressionist works of CГ©zanne and Gauguin. The resulting pictorial flatness, vivid color
palette, and fragmented Cubist shapes helped to define early modernism. While these artists knew
nothing of the original meaning and function of the West and Central African sculptures they
encountered, they instantly recognized the spiritual aspect of the composition and adapted these
qualities to their own efforts to move beyond the naturalism that had defined Western art since the
Renaissance. http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/aima/hd_aima.htm Picasso puts aside his

The Thompson Paternal Ancestors
This paper summarizes the ancestral immigartion of my primary paternal ancestors. The Thompson
surname in itself traces its roots back to Reverend William Thompson (abt. 1598 to abt 1666).
Within this paternal lineage are the surnames Willis, Meade, and Stevenson. Reverend William
Thompson
The exact lineage of Reverend Thompson has not clearly been established through primary sources
and was only correlated when a series of 128 chromosone paternal DNA tests showed exact matches
with two difinitively known direct male descendents. I am related to Reverend Thompson by way
of Gary Thompson; James Thompson, William Thompson, William Thompson, Green Thompson,
Joseph Thompson, Jack Thompson, Benjamin Thompson, and William, William, and, finally,

Roman Culture And The Roman Empire
Roman Culture
The Roman Empire is among the greater ancient civilizations known to man. In 753 B.C. Rome at
one point consisted of The Rhine River to Egypt and from Asia Minor to Britain accumulating
some 2 millions square miles. This essay goes over some of their culture and the great strides
made throughout 753 BC to 27 BC and from 64 AD to 1453 A.D.
I. Military
The Roman military focused on teamwork and making their soldiers brave throughout their
training. The Equitatus played a major role in legionary tactics. The Romans military was far
more superior and successful than any other army for a thousand years. Over many centuries the
Romans dominated the world which brought most of Europe, northern Africa, and the Middle
East under their rule. The only way to obtain citizenship was to serve in the Roman military and
basically get what we call an honorable discharge nowadays. The Army didn t allow marriage
until Cladius came to power in 10 B.C. The military frowned upon being married even after
Cladius. Roman tactics and advanced weaponry was extremely influential to their success. They
had tremendously brutal heavy cavalry called Franks and Lombards. They also came out with a
genius design of an advanced cross bow that was far more accurate than that of an average archer.
II. Architecture
One of the biggest advances in architecture during Ancient Rome was definitely their water systems.
The Roman Empire had extensive aqueducts that carried a vast quantity of water to

The Major Characters In Oedipus The King
In Sophocles tragedy Oedipus the King, Oedipus, the main character, goes through many
struggles that lead to his downfall as a leader and character. In the beginning of the play, the
Plague of Athens strikes, and many people are dying rapidly. Oedipus, being the king of Thebes,
is placed in charge of solving the problem. He relies on an the seer Tiresias to help him, and the
seer tells him that the plague will be stopped when the murderer of Laius is found and expelled.
Oedipusalso finds out that when he was born, the oracle told his parents that he was going to kill
his father and have an affair with his mother. In order to prevent this from happening, his parents
sent him off to Thebes where he was raised by a royal family. After inquiring for more information,
it becomes clear that Oedipus real mother is Jocasta, who he married without knowledge that she
was his mother, and his real father is Laius, who he killed on a crossroad years ago. Throughout
these occurrences, Sophocles alludes to major events and customs within Athens, and his writing
follows many common themes in Greek Mythology. Sophocles storyline in Oedipus the King
directly correlates with events and issues going on in Greece. This is evident through the major
theme of the Plague of Athens. The play takes place in 430 BCE, the same year that the plague hit
Thebes, Athens. Sophocles characters are terrified when the plague first hits as the black death
grows rich in groaning and in lamentation

Ethics Case Study Paper
Is pleasing the customers, and telling them what they might want to hear, more important than
being honest with them? When clients ask the company for reports, their main interest should be to
get a thorough and comprehensive analysis. If they were only looking for a confirmation of what
they wanted to hear, they should not need the research.
This case study review will show that ethics and honesty are more important than pleasing the
customer. When Greg was given revised numbers, and was asked to rewrite the report to match the
changes, he was put in a difficult situation. He just recently joined the organization, and is likely
still getting a feel for the company culture. What are the values and shared goals? His supervisor,

Elizabeth is likely struggling from two perspectives. She has to follow directives of the
company owners, in this case Mr. Collins, although she might not agree with the decision. At the
same time she is the one that has to explain the change to the analysts. Kouzes and Posner (2012)
found that Before you can be a leader of others, you need to know clearly who you are and what
your core values are. Once you know that, then you can give those values a voice and feel
comfortable sharing them with others (p. 17). Elizabeth s behavior is not ethical, but she is in a
similar position as Greg. Obey the orders, get the analysts to change the report, and have the outside
computer firm revise their printouts, or risk getting written up or terminated.
I would be surprised if this was the first time such a redo of a report was ordered by the owners.
This has an overall negative influence on the company culture and values being communicated. If
employees feel that unethical actions are being performed, it taints all messages being
communicated. Kouzes and Posner (2012) stated that If you don t believe in the messenger, you
won t believe the message (p.

Work Motivation Essay
An organization is a common platform where individuals from different backgrounds come
together and work as a collective unit to achieve certain objectives and targets. An organization
consists of individuals with different specializations, educational qualifications and work
experiences all working towards a common goal. Just like how every employee have different
specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences, the employees also differ in
generations called Gen X(people born in 1965 1981), Gen Y (people born in 1982 2000) and Baby
boomers(people born in 1946 1964). All these employees need work motivationin some way or the
other to perform at work place and produce desired results.
In the due course of time there are many changes in the organizations that are taking place.
Organizational changes happen due to leadership, technical changes and also due to multiple
generations working under a single roof. By these generations working under a single roof there
are many contradictions and differences right from the value systems to how each generations see
the work. So motivating each generation to achieve their goal is a huge task even for the leading
managers.
Work motivation is described as the psychological processes that direct, energize, and maintain
action toward a job, task, role, or project (Campbell Pritchard, 1976; Kanfer, 1990). Work
motivation is a set of energetic forces that originate both within as well as beyond an individual s
being,

Date performed January 18, 2015
Introduction/ Abstract:
Simple harmonic motion is the study of oscillation. An object undergoes oscillation when it
experiences a restoring force which restores this object to equilibrium positon. The Simple
harmonic oscillation occurs when the net force on an object along the direction of motion is
proportional to the object s displacement and in the opposite direction by this equation F = kx. In
addition, an object whose position time graph makes a sine or cosine function is in simple
harmonic motion. This type of relation is called Hooke s law. The purpose of this experiment is to
prove Hooke s law and study Simple harmonic motion and to show that this equation T = 2 is valid
during Simple harmonic motion.
Theory:
The relevant theoretical concepts and equations used in this experiment are:

American Needle vs. The National Football League Properties
The teams of the NFL established the NFLP or National Football League Properties to develop,
license, and market the teams intellectual property in 1963. The organization allowed a certain
amount of nonexclusive licenses to a variety of licensees. American Needle was one of the
licensees. They made a variety of headwear that displayed the various NFL team logos. The
licensing agreement lasted until 2000. The NFL teams sanctioned the NFLP to give Reebok an
exclusive licensefor headwear. With this decision, the NFLP did not renew American Needle s
license or the licenses of any other headwear vendors.
American Needle Inc. filed a suit in an Illinois district court against the NFL, NFLP, NFL teams,
and Reebok, claiming that this exclusive license agreement violated Section 1 of the Sherman Act,
15 В§ U.S.C. 1, which outlaws any contract, combination . . . or conspiracy, in restraint of trade.
American Needle argued that because individual teams separately own their team logos and
trademarks, their collective agreement to authorize NFLP to award the exclusive headwear license
to Reebok, was a conspiracy to restrict other vendors ability to obtain licenses for the teams
intellectual property.
The respondents, NFL, moved for a motion of summary judgment on the Section 1 claim, arguing it
was immune from antitrust liability as a single entity. In response, American Needle sought a
continuance and asked the U.S. District Court to allow discovery, a motion opposed by the

Diversity of Louisiana Creole Culture Louisiana Creoles are persons descended from the
inhabitants of colonial Louisiana during the period of both French and Spanish rule. These
imposed meanings varied from descendants of French and Spanish aristocrats to racially mixed or
to anyone of African blood. In the Louisiana Creole mind those distinctions are irrelevant. They

Social Scientist Phrase, Presentation Of Self, And Self
In this modern day world people may continuously confuse similarly used words, and often think
they mean the same thing. However, in reality they don t. Nonetheless, the main focus words are
identity, and self. Identity to me is similar to social scientist phrase presentation of self , and what
that means is how a person wants to present themselves to others. Similar to actors, and singers that
are constructively criticized by their image, so they can better it to wow their fans. In contrast to self
which is being true to who you are. As seen in When the Emperor was Divine the familystruggle

Life of Peru s Indigenous People Essay
Throughout the history of Latin American countries, like Peru there has been dramatic change in
the overall way of life. These changes are largely due to external influences on the international
level such as the Spanish conquest of Andean territories. However no matter whether the process of
change was political, economic, social or cultural, they all have similarities and are interconnected.
These different types of change are closely intertwined and influence one another while linking the
local level of life with foreign (on an (inter)national level) events and forces. Also along with these
changes, some aspects of indigenous life remain stable and continue throughout these external
influences. In this essay I will discuss continuity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result the Peruvian indigenous people set up multiple ecological zones along these mountain
sides (slopes) to increase the efficiency of their production. This technique known as verticality let
the people diversify their subsistence strategies and become more self sufficing. This division of
production zones were setup into four distinct production zones. Some of these zones were used
for animal domestication and tuber production while others were used for the production of certain
crops (maize, potatoes, tropical fruits, coca ) that grew best at their zones climatic conditions.
These indigenous people would then travel to different zones throughout the day to manage and
exploit these lands. However the distances between these four zones were extreme in some
measures. Therefore in order to increase traveling efficiency, these people would settle in the
middle of these ecological zones to give each production division adequate attention. Another
important feature of the Incan indigenous agricultural system was water. In order to conserve
water and structure it s usage most efficiently, the people followed the value of equity. They saw
water as a form of common property that belongs to everyone. As a result they handled water
management by abiding to the two specific principles of uniformity and proportionality. The people
controlled and developed the land so that everyone received water with the same frequency.
Therefore if everyone irrigated their

2.1 What are NoSQL Databases
NoSQL databases are databases designed to run on clusters of computers/servers, built for the
ever increasing data storage needs for websites. Devised as a way of scaling databases
horizontally which is a challenge with traditional relational databases. Scaling horizontally is the
ability to add more computers/servers as nodes to a database. These clusters work well with write

A Report That Was Released By The United States Justice...
A report that was released by the United States Justice Department on February 12, 2016,
showed that a Florida man pleads guilty to a hate crime for threatening to firebomb two
mosques and shoot worshippers. The 43 year old man by the name Martin Alan Schnitzler was
arrested by the FBI on November 17, 2015, after he made numerous threats to shoot children in
the head and firebomb a mosque in Petersburg, Florida. In his two recorded messages, Schnitzler
said that he is watching the news report that covered the terrorist attacks in Paris. In these
attacks, 130 lives were lost while more than 300 were seriously injured. Those responsible for
these series of attacks were members of a terrorist group known as the Islamic States of Iraq and
Levant (ISIL). Since ISIL members claim to be practicing Muslims and also fighting for the cause
of Islam(Jihad), Schnitzler showed the same enmity he has for the ISIL terrorists to his non
violence Muslim neighbors. For this reason, he wanted to avenge the death of the victims of the
Paris attacks by firebombing and shooting his Muslim neighbors two year old children in the head.
After his arrest, he admitted that he violated these Muslims first Amendment (free exercise of
religion) and also pleaded guilty to the hate crime charge. According to the Department of Justice,
Schnitzler faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison. A. Lee Bentley III, the U.S.
Attorney for the Middle District of Florida also stated in the Justice

The Three Huge Questions Leading Into Week 10 Against...
THREE HUGE QUESTIONS LEADING INTO WEEK 10 AGAINST THE BUCCANEERS
1. Will Matt Cassel finally figure out to deliver and take home a W? OK, so he hasn t been
horrific since he took over for a struggling Brandon Weeden, who took over for an injured Tony
Romo. (the fact that, there are this many quarterbacks in the talks for the Cowboys this season is
beyond heartbreaking) Anyway, Cassel has shown some life and even made some impressive
plays on the field. However, we are still sitting in at 2 6 and dead last in already abysmal division.
Other than a 30 6 loss to the New England Patriots the Cowboys have been in every game until the
last quarter, most of those games pushing into the final seconds and two of them even into
overtime. Sounds accurate right Cowboy s fans? If the Cowboys lose its always in a heart
stopping, gut wrenching fashion. Nonetheless, should all of these losses lay at the feet of our
man under center? Of course not, but on the other hand he has played mediocre football at best.
Sometimes its about finding the quarterback that just knows how to win. I am not persuaded
Cassel is able to do that. He hasn t in the time he has worn the star anyway. Even though Cassel
put up his best game as a Cowboy in the 33 27 overtime loss to the Eagles last Sunday night, it still
has one play that will forever haunt him, and the fans I imagine. Cassel threw for 299 yards, 3
touchdowns, and the main focus unfortunately for Cassel is that one interception he threw in

What Is John Steinbeck s Message In Of Mice And Men
During the early years of the Great Depression, hundreds of thousands of American workers
became out of work and began to travel across the country, in search of work, and the fabled
American Dream. John Steinbeck s novel, Of Mice and Men, a historical fiction piece, follows the
struggles of two such American workers, on their journey through the tumultuous era of the Great
Depression. However the novel s message comes from the struggles of the two main characters,
George and Lenny, and the actions they must take to overcome the obstacles in front of them.
Steinbeck s purpose for writing the novel was to express his views on the American Dream and
express his experiences through the characters he creates. The messages that Steinbeck conveys
through his novel are how impossible it truly is to achieve the American Dream, and how it is the
nature of man to prey on the weak; this message adding to the impossibility of the American dream,
men making it impossible for their fellow man to succeed.
As Steinbeck writes the novel, he imbues the story, with his own personal knowledge of the times,
as much of the fictional setting comes from his own experiences supporting himself as a laborer in
California, struggling to achieve his own American Dream. While the American Dream... Show

Steinbeck conveys his message using his tone to convey his attitude regarding his messages to
readers, and develop emotions on those topics within the audience; through the use of cultural

his characters. These methods, along with the overall themes of the novel are how Steinbeck

Your Vice Research Paper
When I first started watching Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key (epic
name, but will now be referred to as Your Vice), I wasn t entirely sure I was going to like it. It
starts off pretty damn weird, with a bunch of hippies dancing around, singing and a guy abusing his
wife. All scenes which really don t connect. However, as the movie gets going, the filmstarts to gel
together and by the end, I was hooked big time. I loved how this movie ended, just absolutely
loved it. I, of course, won t spoil it for you, but I will go into details on a few things in my review
of this phenomenal Blu ray release from Arrow Video.
As mentioned in my Lucio Fulci s Black Cat review, Your Vice is featured in Arrow s phenomenal
Edgar Allan Poe s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your Vice does do a better job at adapting the story a little more closely, with a few twists and
turns along the way, which I loved. Some of the plot points are a little out there and placed in there
just to confuse you and make you think one thing is happening when actually something else
entirely is taking place. It actually works once the films end credits roll around, so you just got to
stick with the flick to have everything figured out.
I do want to mention how much sexuality is coursing through this movie s veins. There are
copious amounts of nudity, lesbian love scenes and a tiny dash of incest. Edwige Fenech, who
plays Floriana is basically in the movie to seduce every single person and boy, does she do an
amazing job at it. I can t blame anyone for wanting to sleep with her, as she emits raw sexual
energy whenever she is on screen.
I wish I go could into more detail with Your Vice, but mentioning anything specific would ruin the
experience and that would be a damn shame with this movie. Besides a shaky beginning and some
random scenes that make no sense, Your Vice works to tell a fantastic, twisty tale that does justice

Comparison of Billy Elliot and Grease
The musicals Billy Elliot and Grease present both conventional and unconventional representations
of gender throughout. Both musicals also seem to obscure the message of the underlying gender
stereotyping issues by overshadowing them with elements such as music, dance and costume.
Men have been stereotyped as dominant, strong, brave and aggressive. Also there is an image of
men being portrayed as harder workers than women and supposedly the more intelligent gender.
Men are thought to be physically tougher, more aggressive, more rational, better able to handle sex
without love, and more likely to be successful at work by virtue of their greater will to win.
(Nicholson, 1993, 2)
Most often, men have less of an emotional attachment to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, the music in Billy Elliot seems to confront the issues within the lyrics and not withdraw
an audience s attention from the problems that are presented within this show.
Billy initiates the music in his life. He has the potential to triumph over his environment. The lyrics
of the soundtrack are also noteworthy, as they imply that Billy is a born dancer. (Lancioni, 2006,
718)
He Could be a Star is a song that is sung in majority by Jackie Elliot about Billy s potential at
becoming a professional dancer.
He could be a star for all we know
We don t know how far he can go . (Billy Elliot Soundtrack, 2000)
Throughout Billy Elliot, Jackie is represented as a strong, aggressive and brave character,
however as he sings this song he seems to lack in these masculine qualities as he loses the
strength to keep up with the strike and appears as weak to his colleagues who may not understand
the depth as to why Jackie must leave the strike and go back to work.
Another element of musical theatre is dance, which is evident in both Grease and Billy Elliot.
One of the most famous dances from Billy Elliot is the angry dance, performed by Billy out of
frustration from constantly being mocked and disregarded because of his love for dancing.
This scene not only expresses Billy s rage, it visually represents his childhood. Billy is blocked by
barriers of gender, class, and

Power electronics circuits convert electric power from one form to other using electronic devices.
By using semiconductor devices as switches power electronics circuits function, thereby controlling
or modifying a voltage or current.Power electronics application range from high power conversion
equipment such as dc power transmission to everyday appliances, such as cell phone chargers,
cordless screwdrivers, power supplies for computers, and hybrid automobiles. Power electronics
includes applications in which circuits process miliwatts or megawatts.Power electronics include
conversion of an unregulated dc voltage to a regulated dc voltage conversion of ac to dc,
conversion of dc to ac, and conversion of an ac power source from one amplitude and frequency to
another amplitude and frequency. These power converters are classified as rectifiers, AC voltage
controllers, DC choppers and inverters, which covers wide area of residential, commercial and
industrial applications, including computers, transportation and power utilizes [1].
Power electronic converters, especially DC/AC inverters have been extending their range of use in
industrial application because they provide better system efficiency, reduced energy consumption
and improved quality of power. The output voltage of inverter could be fixed or variable at a fixed
or variable frequency and output waveforms are therefore made up of discrete values, producing

The Importance Of Medical Tourism In Canada
Claim: Seeking healthcare abroad is growing among Canadians and providing them with good
quality of care.
Medical tourism is travelling internationally for non urgent medical treatment and paying out of
pocket money. The recent influx of this phenomenon attracted public attention. There s a big list of
international destinations where patients decide to travel to obtain a wide range of non urgent
medical procedures. These destinations range from low to high risk according to possible
complications or other undesired outcomes. Is medical tourism truly growing among Canadians and
providing them with good quality of care? The true answer remains unknown.
Canada is often described as one of the leaders in the realization of universal health coverage. This
universal health care system is a source of national pride for many Canadians. Canada has a publicly
funded national health insurance program (Medicare) which falls under the Canada Health Act that
was passed into law in 1984. This program guarantees, under federal law, that all Canadian
residents have reasonable access to medically necessary hospital and physician services on a
prepaid basis, and on uniform terms and conditions (1).
Accessibility and universality are key principles of the Canada Health Act, meaning that all
Canadian residents who are insured under Medicare should be able to have reasonable access to
health care facilities and receive the same level of care regardless of where they live, and their

Why Is Physician Assisted Suicide Wrong
Physician assisted suicide (PAS) has been debated for many years now. Is physician assisted
suicide right or is it wrong? Many people have very different views about this issue. Some
supporters feel that people should have the moral right to choose freely what they will do with
their lives as long as they do not harm others. This right of free choice includes the right to end one
s life when they choose. While you have some supporters who oppose any measures of permitting
physician assisted suicideargue that physicians have a moral duty to preserve all life. To allow
physicians to assist in destroying someone s life violates the Hippocratic Oath to do no harm.
Opponents of physician assisted suicide also believe that better pain management... Show more

The most powerful argument for physician assisted suicide is that it can relieve tremendous pain
and suffering of severely and terminally ill patients. Patients with advanced cancer or other diseases
that lead to a painful death that medical science is not yet able to treat effectively should be
offered the option of cutting short the pain that is inevitably tied to the end stages of their
disease. Because of their special expertise, physicians are best suited to assist a patient in ending
their life in a peaceful and pain free manner. As a society, failing to offer patients this choice
shows a lack of compassion and humanity. Along with saving terminally ill patients from pain,
physician assisted suicide should be legalized to allow patients with degenerative, progressive
illnesses the option of choosing death before it robs them of their mental and physical faculties.
Diseases such as Lou Gehrig s disease, multiple sclerosis, Huntington s disease and Alzheimer s
disease lead to a slow, inevitable decline in function that medical science has been unable to treat
effectively. A person with one of these diseases may wish to choose death as a way to preserve
their dignity and in order to be remembered by their family and friends as they wish to be
remembered, rather than as a shell of their former selves. Former President Ronald Reagan
suffered from Alzheimer s disease. He was out of the public eye when he was in the last stages
of the disease. He was able to be remembered by the public as a strong and successful leader,
rather than as an Alzheimer s victim. Others should also have this right. After considering the
benefits to the patient of allowing physician assisted suicide, the benefits to the family and friends
of the dying person should also be considered. The suffering of a dying person s friends and

Rhetorical Devices Used in Queen Elizabeth s Speech
Through her speech, Queen Elizabeth inspired her people to fight for the country of England
against the Spaniards. Queen Elizabeth persuaded the English troops to defend their country with
rhetoric devices such as diction, imagery, and sentence structure to raise their morale and gain
loyalty as a woman in power.
Queen Elizabeth skillfully used diction throughout her speech to motivate the troops. In the speech,
Queen Elizabeth used the word we four times to underscore her feeling of unity between her and her
country. She conveyed her care about the welfare of everyone in the country. This inspired the
soldiers to remain patriotic and want to fight for their nation. In addition, the queen refered to the

The whole phrase justified that she is, in fact, a strong leader, both politically and militaristically
regardless of her being a woman. This phrase would help the queen gain respect from the
soldiers who may not have respected her high position before because of her gender. In the same
sentence, Queen Elizabeth uses a hyperbole to describe how much she cared for her country of
England. She said, I myself will take up arms . She, of course, had no intent to physically engage
in the war along with the troops, but she was trying to depict the image of herself to the soldiers
saying that she was willing to do anything for the sake of England. This convinced the troops that
they should do the same. The queen s excellent use of imagery instilled respect for herself from the
troops and inspired them to go to war.
Queen Elizabeth expertly used sentence structure to instill confidence in the troops to fight the
Spaniards and gain trust. In the speech, the queen used parallel structure to compare herself to a
king, or man in power. She said that she has the body of a weak and feeble woman, but a strong
heart of a king. The usage of parallel structure brought to light that even though she may not be
physically able, she still cared about the well being of her people just as a king would. She
conveyed the message that the people s respect towards her should be no different than that directed
towards a king. In addition, Queen Elizabeth

Shared Humanity In The Scarlet Ibis, By James Hurst

loss, survival, choice, morality, and emotions. These specific traits are what make each individual
human. All six traits play an important role in all humans live like shaping them into who they

the story and make it more interesting. This essay will be covering how the six main traits of
shared humanity are shown in the novel How I live now by Meg Rosoff, short storythe Scarlet Ibis

The real truth is that the war didn t have much to do with it except that it provided a perfect
limbo in which two people who were too young and too related could start kissing without

something that to most people would be wrong and weird, but she made a choice that made her
happy. The choice may confuse the audience, but it is a very important choice that definitely
impacts the remainder of the story. Daisy uses her love to keep herself and Piper alive in hopes
she will get to see and be with Edmond again. This leads into the other shared humanity trait
shown in the novel;survival. Once Daisy and Piper were separated from Edmond, Isaac, and

The synthesis of aspirin is very important in today s society. One of the age old methods of
treating patients with inflammation problems, blood coagulation problems, fevers, and having a

aspirin as a therapy can decrease the risk of a second heart attack (Baigent 2009). In fact, the FDA

In an esterification reaction, a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol. The synthesis of aspirin is an
esterification reaction. Initially, the proton, i.e. the hydrogen ion, from the acid attacks the acetic
anhydride and attaches itself on a double bond oxygen. This makes the compound more
electrophilic, meaning that it has a higher affinity for electrons. This is what sets off the reaction.
The salicylic acid then acts as an alcohol and attaches its OH group onto a carbon on the acetic
anhydride. Then, the hydrogen from the OH group (the alcohol group) of the salicylic acid falls
off, forming a tetrahedral intermediate, and the hydrogen ion reassociates with the conjugate base
of the acid used as the catalyst. Next, the hydrogen that came from the acid initially, transfers its
electrons and forms a double between the adjacent oxygen and carbon. However, the hydrogen
atom does not fall off after the transfer of electrons but is kept there with a positive charge. With
this, another transfer of electrons occurs and an acetyl group is generated from the breaking of the
acetic anhydride. Now, the acetyl group breaks off the positive hydrogen attached and acetic acidis
generated as a result. With this, the ester, the aspirin, is created (Watson

The Colonel Michael Hogan Summary
The author of The Colonel, Michael Hogan, details how a certain Army Colonel influenced his life
through the sport of tennis. Hogan begins by indicating how mainstreamed tennis is today, to the
point an average adolescent could not imagine tennis as a rich man sport. In the fifties, when Hogan
was a child, tenniswas a sport reserved for mostly men at country clubs and private resorts. Women
had competed at international competitions such as Wimbledon for a several years, but many of
them were amateurs (oftentimes paid little). Fortunately for female tennis players, Billie Jean Kings
assertiveness, in 1967, and the Virginia Slim tournaments, in the seventies, influenced tennis to
include women in professional tennis (such as Chris Everts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hogan s father told him of the great players from his day: Poncho Gonzales, Ken Rosewall, Jack

father s brother, Harry, died in Belgium during the war; Harry s name memorialized the nearby
Little League baseball field. On a Saturday afternoon, after getting home early from work, Hogan
stopped to talk with the Colonel. The Colonel obviously loved tennis, telling stories from
competitions when in college and in the service. He amused the young boy with stories of
tournaments, matches with famous players, and games in remote parts of the world. The
Colonel considered tennis a sport, after one learns how to play it, that person can play for the
rest of their life. When one has no one to play with, or their body stops working correctly, one
can still enjoy a game of tennis (but not football, basketball, or baseball). Tennis could be played
anywhere, as one can always find someone to play with. The Colonel hooked the young Hogan
to play. Maybe it was the Colonel s stories, Hogan s enthusiasm, his respect of the Colonel s rank,
his cheerful personality, or his war experiences. Hogan may have not wanted to disappoint the
venerable man (and likely so); despite this, Hogan was ready to learn the game of

Juvenile Justice System In The Film Kids For Cash
The U.S. Constitution guarantees every defendant a right to counsel and to a fair trial. That right is
often rationed. Those with financial resources receive the best justice money can buy, while the
poor are left with a little justice system valuing expediency over quality, resulting in the majority of

Negative Effects Of Advertising In Advertising
Over $10.7 trillion were spent by American consumers in 2011 (mentalfloss.com). To put that into
perspective, with that amount of money, you could buy over thirteen trillion full size Hershey s
bars, almost 450 million family cars, or cover the incomes of almost 205 million US families
(kiplinger.com)! So, how exactly do companies get consumers to spend that much? Advertising!
And it s not simply showing consumers what products or services these companies have to offer. In
many cases, marketers lure consumers into buying from them by relying on common advertising
traps.
The first common trap is to tug on the heartstrings of Americans. Companies frequently create
advertising that portrays people or animals dealing with difficult situations and asks the viewer
for money to improve their lives. A real world example of this type of advertising is the
numerous commercials produced by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals, or ASPCA. Most of their ads focus on an abandoned animal that shows obvious signs of
neglect in order to encourage the viewer to empathize with the animal and donate money for their
cause. Many people end up donating when they see ads like this because they may feel guilty
about not helping another person or animal in need when they have the chance to do so or they
may feel that their donations can directly help end the other person s or animal s suffering.
The next ploy Americans fall for is the use of term free. Advertisers use the word free to create the
illusion that the consumer is getting a great deal in order to encourage them to buy something they
may not had wanted to buy in the first place. After all, who would not want something for free?
But usually in order to get something free, the consumer must first meet certain conditions. For
example, in order to qualify for free shipping on Amazon, you must spend a minimum of $25.
Because the shipping and handling fee is so high, many people who only had planned to buy one or
two cheap items end up shopping for additional items that they had not intended to buy just to get
the free shipping. So, in many cases they end up spending more money with the free shipping than
if they just bought the item they

Absolutism Vs Relativism Essay
The debate between moral absolutism and relativism is a topic that I have never dealt with before.
First, my post will attempt to describe the tenets of each philosophy. Then, it will discuss which of
the two perspective is more beneficial with guiding American society s moral decision making. The
morality debate consists of strong ideology from both ends of the philosophical spectrum, with both
harkening back to ancient Grecian times. According to Mastin (2008), Plato and Aristotle were
more proponent of Absolutism philosophy, while Sophists followed the relativism ideology (N.p.).
In my research, I have found varying definitions of moral relativism, but each is based on the
philosophy that morals are culturally based and are subject to individual choice. Moral relativism is
the perspective that ethical and moral standards are culturally based, and therefore subject to
personal, individual choice (moral relativism.com, 2016, N.p.). In Addition, Schumacher (2008)
noted, with moral relativism there are no global, absolute laws that applies to all people...noting that
individual moral practices dictate one s moral position (N.p.). In contrast, moral absolutism is the
belief that rules and standards... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to make a decision, I would have to relate each philosophy yo my own personal ideology.
Personally, I do not believe in absolutes, but rather, I believe that anything is possible. So, I guess
that would place me on the side of moral relativism. I read an article, which highlighted the fact that
the believe in either moral philosophy stems from religion and or creation and evolution. The article
noted, your moral position can be determined by if you believe in evolution or
creation...evolutionist tend to be relativists, while creationist are absolutist (moral relativism.com,
2016, N.p.). I am not a religious person, hence, I am a

The Separation Of Powers Of The State And Its Powers
A constitution is a set of laws and other sources or principles that explains the way in which the
state is established. In short, it is a framework that explains the structure of the state and its powers.
Unlike most modern states, Britain does not have a codified constitution but an unwritten one that
exists in an abstract sense. It delineates the powers of the different branches of the state, and the
restrictions placed on the institutions and on state power. It is comprised of various acts of
Parliament, court judgements and conventions that have evolved over a long period of time. Since
Britain does not have a written constitution, it enjoys the luxury of legislative supremacy. In UK
terms the separation of powers, parliamentary supremacy, and the rule of law are all extremely
important doctrines that pervade the constitution.
The separation of powers is a doctrine or a theory that describes the way in which a state
organises the distribution of power and function between its different branches. It was originally a
work of the 18th century French commentator, Montesquieu, whose principles had a huge impact
on the English constitution system. He also coined the term trias politica or separation of powers
. His doctrine said that in a nation which has political liberty as the direct object of its constitution,
no one person or body of persons ought to be allowed to control the legislative, executive and
judicial powers, or any two of them. Montesquieu s work

Effectiveness Of Britain s Trade Policy On Economic Recovery
The inter war period saw a multitude of different trade policies being used throughout the world.
Britain s was one of protectionism, but in their situation their policies seemed to be effective and
played a significant role in the quick economic recovery Britain experienced during the 1930s. To
explain my evaluation of the effectiveness of Britain s trade policy on their economic recovery in
the 1930s, the differing views on the effect of the General Tariff will be examined, taking into
account effective protection rates, nominal tariffs, and import substitutions. Additionally, the role
trade regionalization played and the legacies that the trade policies left will be inspected. The
most debated aspect of the effectiveness of their, now more protectionist, trade policies were the
tariffs imposed by Britain. In Forrest Capie s The British Tariff and Industrial Protection in the
1930 s, he argues that the tariffs were a hindrance to the economic recovery. His conclusion is
drawn from calculations on the effective protection rates on the tariffs from the General Tariff in
1932; where he found that the iron and steel industries effective protection rates were in the
bottom 5% and construction was experiencing negative rates. This is important to him because
these were industries that are supposed to have played a role in the recovery of the British
economy in the 1930s, causing Capie to believe that if there were no tariffs Britain s economic
recovery would have been

Lifetime Bans Should Be Utilized in the NHL
For any professional athlete, there is a natural assumption of risk to one s physical well being.
Players are constantly honing their bodies in the weight room not just to become faster and stronger
than their competition, but also to protect against the injuries that can ruin a season (Barrabi). The
National Hockey League(NHL) was one of the last professional sports organizations to issue
sanctions against players who cause concussions and head injuries. Just in the past season alone,
there have been a total of 44 suspensions in the NHL (TSN.com). Many of these suspensions
were assessed due to dangerous, and sometimes intentional, behavior. To many people, these 44
suspensions occurring in the past season may seem too excessive; compared to 2004, it is.
However, the frequency of behavior resulting in suspensions has increased over the past several
years due to rule changes and a new disciplinary council assessing said suspensions. Despite the
change in rules, some still intentionally commit acts of violence against opposing players. These
players defense is that they are trying to preserve the tradition and respect of the game by
humbling new, arrogant players who unnecessarily show off or target star players (Jones). Although
preserving this tradition is expected and necessary due to the violent nature of the game, many
players let their tempers get out of control. Because of various injuries, especially head injuries,
league officials should take a tougher

The Kikuyu Tribe of Kenya and the Oath-Taking Process
The Kikuyu tribe and the oath taking process Abstract: This paper discuses in regard to the
Kikuyu people in Kenya and concerning their tendency to do everything in their power to respect
oaths that they take. The oath taking process typically lasts for very long and makes it mandatory
for individuals who experience it to focus on acting in accordance with the cause that they join.
Paper: Kenya is widely known for its witchcraft practices and for the fact that its inhabitants are
particularly superstitious. Belief in witchcraft is normally encountered in Kenya in critical times
when individuals are unable to recover from the crisis that they are in by relying on conventional
institutions. This makes it possible for people to look for solutions in less normal places and it
encourages witches to continue to perform rituals that are presumably meant to directly affect
society. Even with the fact that many of these rituals are immoral in character and especially
illogical, many Kenyans continue to perform them and to believe that they are probable to
guarantee the wellbeing of their community. Murder rituals performed by individuals belonging to
the Mau Mau community often happen across Kenya and stand as an example regarding how
tradition can actually reflect negatively on a peoples. Although Kenya is a multicultural nation, the
fact that the Kikuyu tribe holds a numeric advantage over other groups makes it possible for this
people to be able to impose their authority

Reanimated Chickens And Zombies
Most of the time when you think of the word zombie, you think of a walking corpse that will eat
your face as soon as it gets the chance. What if we thought of zombies as an animal that is
brought back from the dead? Well, in that case, zombies have been around for a while. According
to David Casarett, author of Reanimated Chickens and Zombie Dogs, for over two hundred years,
scientist have pushed relentlessly at life s terminus, trying to find new ways to bring people back
from the dead when their hearts stop. There are many scientist that even grew famous for these
discoveries, theories and experiments. There are a few that may be disturbing to some readers, but
they are worth the mention.

David Casarett, there are many ways to preserve life after cardiac arrest. He says that all this

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh s Safar Center chilling dogs at a very low temperature

trials that are designed to save patients who wouldn t survive with conventional treatment.
Although these experiments are terrifying, downright disgusting, and in complete violation of
animal rights, they have led to recent studies on how to prolong human life. It is up to the reader

Men vs Women at the Pool
It was a Friday afternoon and the sun was shining off of her freckled nose. She was in a rage
because her male counterpart had made plans to go the pool with the rest of his male friends.
Why can t I go? She asked in a whiney voice.
Because this is man time. Besides, you said you had things to do today. He replied in a deep voice,
as he scratched at his five o clock shadow.
It was funny how she would always have her Girls Night Out and he wouldn t say a word about it.

It is like when lions go hunting they lie camouflaged in the bushes watching their prey gather
around the waterhole. In this case, the tinted glass supplies protection from being identified as a
predator. Along side the man, are his other friends, which usually serve as some sort of back up if
the job at hand should ever require more than one man. Along side these urban predators is their
trusty cooler, containing what is usually nothing less then ninety percent beer. This allows the
process of one man making another man look stupid a much easier process.
The women sunbathing around the pool could care less about the men around them getting drunk
and loud. The women are usually too busy talking about the weather, shopping, or the hunk across
the pool to ever notice most of the men staring them down.
This also has a lot to do with what has come to be known as The Rayban Effect. The women pay no
attention to the men, because they cannot tell if the men are paying attention to them.
Occasionally, you will see a couple come to the pool together. The woman with her hair done and

water, juice and sometimes a six pack, if the woman allows. This along with any other articles the

Stereotypical And Common Images From Hollywood And Beauty...
Oppositional art looks to turn prominent societal images and norms on their heads. For this
project, we chose to address the stereotypical and common images found in both Hollywood and
beauty product advertisements. Many movie and television advertisements portray lead characters
who exemplify hegemonic norms: white, heterosexual, and patronizing. The advertisements in
the beauty industry highlight similar images; models are young and beautiful and they promote
the idea that being youthful is better and more acceptable than appearing old . The first image is
a popular movie poster that originally featured a heterosexual couple with the woman in a
submissive pose. Our second image is an advertisement that plays on products that are marketed
to women who want to appear younger. Using a feminist perspective and oppositional gaze, we
will critically analyze the hegemonic norms represented in the chosen images and then highlight
how our art is challenging those norms. As stated before, the first image is that of a highly
recognizable movie poster from 2013. The advertisement, in which originally featured Robert
Downey Jr. in his role as Iron Man, is now a poster displaying Iron Woman played by Rebel
Wilson. The poster now has a homosexual couple in the spotlight, with Iron Woman protecting her
lady. Defying gendered norms, Rebel dawns a full suit of armor and has an unattractive look on her
face, while her counterpart, Gwyneth Paltrow, wears a sultry, distressed look.

Gargantua And Pantagruel
Through numerous fruitless consulting of authority, the figure of authority is depicted as unhelpful,
ignorant and self centered in the second half of the third book of Rabelais Gargantua and
Pantagruel. Montaigne not only indicates similar possible problems of the authority as Rabelais
does, but also provides corresponding solutions to such problems in his On Educating Children. I
will argue that, basing on Montaigne s solutions, one can convert unhelpful, ignorant and self
centered authorities in Gargantua and Pantagruelinto ones that are so beneficial and significant that
can effectively promote learning. Rabelais holds a totally critical and satirical attitude towards the
contribution of authority to learning, but Montaigne, on the opposite,... Show more content on

In the first book of Gargantua and Pantagruel, Rabelais takes the whole eleventh chapters to show
not only the naughty but also the unmannered and disrespectful behaviors of childhood Gargantua,
for instance, often spat in the collection plate (Gargantua and Pantagruel, Rabelais, p.31); it is also
said Gargantua grew and was taught all the proper discipline, by his farther (Gargantua and
Pantagruel, Rabelais, p.31), which is certainly an irony. Gargantua s Father is a form of authority to
his Gargantua, but the identity of the parent determines the existence of spoiling, which is
detrimental to the development and growth of the children. Montaigne also suggests that parents
spoiling will slow down the process of learning especially individual s physical and mental
development. (The Essays: A Selection, Montaigne, p.43). Just as he does in the previous example,
Montaigne provides the solution, that the authority of the tutor, which must be sovereign for the
boy, is hampered and interrupted by the presence of his parents. (The Essays: A Selection,
Montaigne, p.47). Montaigne s solution is to put the authority of tutor over the authority of

The Issue Of Social Media
Issue 2 Social Media Unlike distance learning which a tool that delivers education to students is;
social media is a form of communication that many of our students utilize to learn about matters
that are going on around the campus and around the world. As stated by Ratliff, (2011)
Communication with student on campuses of higher education continues to drastically change
(p.1). There are many colleges and universities around the country that use social media to
communicate a variety of information to its students. There are several social media outlets like
Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube that are popular with all ages, races, and gender of students. With
new technology come new challenges, individuals now communicate differently, research
differently, and socialize differently (Ratliff, 2011, p. 1). Student affairs professionals not only must
keep up with new regulations, changes in policy, but they also should keep up with the different
communication that students engage in. As stated by Ratliff, (2011), The prevalent terms used to
describe social media include: information sharing, electronic communication, and social interaction
(p.2). These forms of media are no longer just an individual preference, but colleges and
universities also set up pages about themselves. The age of digital data is upon us in full force and
one must be diligent in what they post and whom they are trying to communicate with. It is
important to understand specifically the terms

In France, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and their School of Paris friends blended the highly stylized treatment of the human figure in African sculptures with painting styles derived from the post Impressionist works of CГ©zanne and Gauguin. The resulting pictorial flatness, vivid color palette, and fragmented Cubist shapes helped to define early modernism. While these artists knew nothing of the original meaning and function of the West and Central African sculptures they encountered, they instantly recognized the spiritual aspect of the composition and adapted these qualities to their own efforts to move beyond the naturalism that had defined Western art since the Renaissance. http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/aima/hd_aima.htm Picasso puts aside his harlequins (after painting the picture Le Mort d Arlequin in 1905 and starts to make drawings in preparation for his painting (Les Demoiselles ... • 4. Roman Culture And The Roman Empire Roman Culture The Roman Empire is among the greater ancient civilizations known to man. In 753 B.C. Rome at one point consisted of The Rhine River to Egypt and from Asia Minor to Britain accumulating some 2 millions square miles. This essay goes over some of their culture and the great strides made throughout 753 BC to 27 BC and from 64 AD to 1453 A.D. I. Military The Roman military focused on teamwork and making their soldiers brave throughout their training. The Equitatus played a major role in legionary tactics. The Romans military was far more superior and successful than any other army for a thousand years. Over many centuries the Romans dominated the world which brought most of Europe, northern Africa, and the Middle East under their rule. The only way to obtain citizenship was to serve in the Roman military and basically get what we call an honorable discharge nowadays. The Army didn t allow marriage until Cladius came to power in 10 B.C. The military frowned upon being married even after Cladius. Roman tactics and advanced weaponry was extremely influential to their success. They had tremendously brutal heavy cavalry called Franks and Lombards. They also came out with a genius design of an advanced cross bow that was far more accurate than that of an average archer. II. • 5. The Major Characters In Oedipus The King In Sophocles tragedy Oedipus the King, Oedipus, the main character, goes through many struggles that lead to his downfall as a leader and character. In the beginning of the play, the Plague of Athens strikes, and many people are dying rapidly. Oedipus, being the king of Thebes, is placed in charge of solving the problem. He relies on an the seer Tiresias to help him, and the seer tells him that the plague will be stopped when the murderer of Laius is found and expelled. Oedipusalso finds out that when he was born, the oracle told his parents that he was going to kill his father and have an affair with his mother. In order to prevent this from happening, his parents sent him off to Thebes where he was raised by a royal family. After inquiring for more information, it becomes clear that Oedipus real mother is Jocasta, who he married without knowledge that she was his mother, and his real father is Laius, who he killed on a crossroad years ago. Throughout these occurrences, Sophocles alludes to major events and customs within Athens, and his writing follows many common themes in Greek Mythology. Sophocles storyline in Oedipus the King directly correlates with events and issues going on in Greece. This is evident through the major theme of the Plague of Athens. The play takes place in 430 BCE, the same year that the plague hit Thebes, Athens. • 7. Ethics Case Study Paper Is pleasing the customers, and telling them what they might want to hear, more important than being honest with them? When clients ask the company for reports, their main interest should be to get a thorough and comprehensive analysis. If they were only looking for a confirmation of what they wanted to hear, they should not need the research. This case study review will show that ethics and honesty are more important than pleasing the customer. When Greg was given revised numbers, and was asked to rewrite the report to match the changes, he was put in a difficult situation. He just recently joined the organization, and is likely still getting a feel for the company culture. What are the values and shared goals? His supervisor, Elizabeth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elizabeth is likely struggling from two perspectives. She has to follow directives of the company owners, in this case Mr. Collins, although she might not agree with the decision. At the same time she is the one that has to explain the change to the analysts. Kouzes and Posner (2012) found that Before you can be a leader of others, you need to know clearly who you are and what your core values are. Once you know that, then you can give those values a voice and feel comfortable sharing them with others (p. 17). Elizabeth s behavior is not ethical, but she is in a similar position as Greg. Obey the orders, get the analysts to change the report, and have the outside computer firm revise their printouts, or risk getting written up or terminated. I would be surprised if this was the first time such a redo of a report was ordered by the owners. This has an overall negative influence on the company culture and values being communicated. If employees feel that unethical actions are being performed, it taints all messages being communicated. • 9. Work Motivation Essay An organization is a common platform where individuals from different backgrounds come together and work as a collective unit to achieve certain objectives and targets. An organization consists of individuals with different specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences all working towards a common goal. Just like how every employee have different specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences, the employees also differ in generations called Gen X(people born in 1965 1981), Gen Y (people born in 1982 2000) and Baby boomers(people born in 1946 1964). All these employees need work motivationin some way or the other to perform at work place and produce desired results. In the due course of time there are many changes in the organizations that are taking place. Organizational changes happen due to leadership, technical changes and also due to multiple generations working under a single roof. By these generations working under a single roof there are many contradictions and differences right from the value systems to how each generations see the work. So motivating each generation to achieve their goal is a huge task even for the leading managers. Work motivation is described as the psychological processes that direct, energize, and maintain action toward a job, task, role, or project (Campbell Pritchard, 1976; Kanfer, 1990). Work motivation is a set of energetic forces that originate both within as well as beyond an individual s being, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hooke s Law And Simple Harmonic Oscillations College physics II Laboratory Experiment 2 Hooke s law and simple harmonic oscillations by Mohamed Omer Lab Partners Youssef Farlos Roman Martinaz Jhon Fanque Date performed January 18, 2015 Introduction/ Abstract: Simple harmonic motion is the study of oscillation. An object undergoes oscillation when it experiences a restoring force which restores this object to equilibrium positon. The Simple harmonic oscillation occurs when the net force on an object along the direction of motion is proportional to the object s displacement and in the opposite direction by this equation F = kx. In addition, an object whose position time graph makes a sine or cosine function is in simple harmonic motion. This type of relation is called Hooke s law. The purpose of this experiment is to prove Hooke s law and study Simple harmonic motion and to show that this equation T = 2 is valid during Simple harmonic motion. Theory: The relevant theoretical concepts and equations used in this experiment are: T = 2 | E1 в€’ E2 | E1 + E2 2 K= Percent difference = Experimental Procedure:

  • 12. American Needle vs. The National Football League Properties The teams of the NFL established the NFLP or National Football League Properties to develop, license, and market the teams intellectual property in 1963. The organization allowed a certain amount of nonexclusive licenses to a variety of licensees. American Needle was one of the licensees. They made a variety of headwear that displayed the various NFL team logos. The licensing agreement lasted until 2000. The NFL teams sanctioned the NFLP to give Reebok an exclusive licensefor headwear. With this decision, the NFLP did not renew American Needle s license or the licenses of any other headwear vendors. American Needle Inc. filed a suit in an Illinois district court against the NFL, NFLP, NFL teams, and Reebok, claiming that this exclusive license agreement violated Section 1 of the Sherman Act, 15 В§ U.S.C. 1, which outlaws any contract, combination . . . or conspiracy, in restraint of trade. American Needle argued that because individual teams separately own their team logos and trademarks, their collective agreement to authorize NFLP to award the exclusive headwear license to Reebok, was a conspiracy to restrict other vendors ability to obtain licenses for the teams intellectual property. As a result the Peruvian indigenous people set up multiple ecological zones along these mountain sides (slopes) to increase the efficiency of their production. This technique known as verticality let the people diversify their subsistence strategies and become more self sufficing. This division of production zones were setup into four distinct production zones. Some of these zones were used for animal domestication and tuber production while others were used for the production of certain crops (maize, potatoes, tropical fruits, coca ) that grew best at their zones climatic conditions. These indigenous people would then travel to different zones throughout the day to manage and exploit these lands. However the distances between these four zones were extreme in some measures. Therefore in order to increase traveling efficiency, these people would settle in the middle of these ecological zones to give each production division adequate attention. Another important feature of the Incan indigenous agricultural system was water. In order to conserve water and structure it s usage most efficiently, the people followed the value of equity. A report that was released by the United States Justice Department on February 12, 2016, showed that a Florida man pleads guilty to a hate crime for threatening to firebomb two mosques and shoot worshippers. The 43 year old man by the name Martin Alan Schnitzler was arrested by the FBI on November 17, 2015, after he made numerous threats to shoot children in the head and firebomb a mosque in Petersburg, Florida. In his two recorded messages, Schnitzler said that he is watching the news report that covered the terrorist attacks in Paris. In these attacks, 130 lives were lost while more than 300 were seriously injured. Those responsible for these series of attacks were members of a terrorist group known as the Islamic States of Iraq and Levant (ISIL). Since ISIL members claim to be practicing Muslims and also fighting for the cause of Islam(Jihad), Schnitzler showed the same enmity he has for the ISIL terrorists to his non violence Muslim neighbors. For this reason, he wanted to avenge the death of the victims of the Paris attacks by firebombing and shooting his Muslim neighbors two year old children in the head. After his arrest, he admitted that he violated these Muslims first Amendment (free exercise of religion) and also pleaded guilty to the hate crime charge. (the fact that, there are this many quarterbacks in the talks for the Cowboys this season is beyond heartbreaking) Anyway, Cassel has shown some life and even made some impressive plays on the field. However, we are still sitting in at 2 6 and dead last in already abysmal division. Other than a 30 6 loss to the New England Patriots the Cowboys have been in every game until the last quarter, most of those games pushing into the final seconds and two of them even into overtime. Sounds accurate right Cowboy s fans? If the Cowboys lose its always in a heart stopping, gut wrenching fashion. Nonetheless, should all of these losses lay at the feet of our man under center? What Is John Steinbeck s Message In Of Mice And Men During the early years of the Great Depression, hundreds of thousands of American workers became out of work and began to travel across the country, in search of work, and the fabled American Dream. John Steinbeck s novel, Of Mice and Men, a historical fiction piece, follows the struggles of two such American workers, on their journey through the tumultuous era of the Great Depression. However the novel s message comes from the struggles of the two main characters, George and Lenny, and the actions they must take to overcome the obstacles in front of them. Steinbeck s purpose for writing the novel was to express his views on the American Dream and express his experiences through the characters he creates. The messages that Steinbeck conveys through his novel are how impossible it truly is to achieve the American Dream, and how it is the nature of man to prey on the weak; this message adding to the impossibility of the American dream, men making it impossible for their fellow man to succeed. As Steinbeck writes the novel, he imbues the story, with his own personal knowledge of the times, as much of the fictional setting comes from his own experiences supporting himself as a laborer in California, struggling to achieve his own American Dream. Men are thought to be physically tougher, more aggressive, more rational, better able to handle sex without love, and more likely to be successful at work by virtue of their greater will to win. (Lancioni, 2006, 718) He Could be a Star is a song that is sung in majority by Jackie Elliot about Billy s potential at becoming a professional dancer. He could be a star for all we know We don t know how far he can go . Many people have very different views about this issue. This right of free choice includes the right to end one s life when they choose. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most powerful argument for physician assisted suicide is that it can relieve tremendous pain and suffering of severely and terminally ill patients. Patients with advanced cancer or other diseases that lead to a painful death that medical science is not yet able to treat effectively should be offered the option of cutting short the pain that is inevitably tied to the end stages of their disease. Because of their special expertise, physicians are best suited to assist a patient in ending their life in a peaceful and pain free manner. As a society, failing to offer patients this choice shows a lack of compassion and humanity. Along with saving terminally ill patients from pain, physician assisted suicide should be legalized to allow patients with degenerative, progressive illnesses the option of choosing death before it robs them of their mental and physical faculties. Diseases such as Lou Gehrig s disease, multiple sclerosis, Huntington s disease and Alzheimer s disease lead to a slow, inevitable decline in function that medical science has been unable to treat effectively. A person with one of these diseases may wish to choose death as a way to preserve their dignity and in order to be remembered by their family and friends as they wish to be remembered, rather than as a shell of their former selves. Former President Ronald Reagan suffered from Alzheimer s disease. He was out of the public eye when he was in the last stages of the disease. He was able to be remembered by the public as a strong and successful leader, rather than as an Alzheimer s victim. Others should also have this right. After considering the benefits to the patient of allowing physician assisted suicide, the benefits to the family and friends of the dying person should also be considered. Queen Elizabeth persuaded the English troops to defend their country with rhetoric devices such as diction, imagery, and sentence structure to raise their morale and gain loyalty as a woman in power. Queen Elizabeth skillfully used diction throughout her speech to motivate the troops. In the speech, Queen Elizabeth used the word we four times to underscore her feeling of unity between her and her country. She conveyed her care about the welfare of everyone in the country. In the same sentence, Queen Elizabeth uses a hyperbole to describe how much she cared for her country of England. She said, I myself will take up arms . She, of course, had no intent to physically engage in the war along with the troops, but she was trying to depict the image of herself to the soldiers saying that she was willing to do anything for the sake of England. This convinced the troops that they should do the same. The queen s excellent use of imagery instilled respect for herself from the troops and inspired them to go to war. Queen Elizabeth expertly used sentence structure to instill confidence in the troops to fight the Spaniards and gain trust. In the speech, the queen used parallel structure to compare herself to a king, or man in power. She said that she has the body of a weak and feeble woman, but a strong heart of a king. The usage of parallel structure brought to light that even though she may not be physically able, she still cared about the well being of her people just as a king would. One of the age old methods of treating patients with inflammation problems, blood coagulation problems, fevers, and having a high risk of heart problems involves the patient ingesting an oral supplement of aspirin. Using aspirin as a therapy can decrease the risk of a second heart attack (Baigent 2009). In fact, the FDA has approved four drugs for the prevention of vascular problems, and aspirinis one (Furie 2010). In addition, aspirin is used daily by many seniors in the U.S. In a recent survey, it was found that in people ranging from 45 to 75 years of age, 52% percent reported that they were currently taking aspirin, and 20% reported that they had used aspirin in the past (Thompson,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an esterification reaction, a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol. The synthesis of aspirin is an esterification reaction. Initially, the proton, i.e. the hydrogen ion, from the acid attacks the acetic anhydride and attaches itself on a double bond oxygen. This makes the compound more electrophilic, meaning that it has a higher affinity for electrons. This is what sets off the reaction. The salicylic acid then acts as an alcohol and attaches its OH group onto a carbon on the acetic anhydride. Then, the hydrogen from the OH group (the alcohol group) of the salicylic acid falls off, forming a tetrahedral intermediate, and the hydrogen ion reassociates with the conjugate base of the acid used as the catalyst. Next, the hydrogen that came from the acid initially, transfers its electrons and forms a double between the adjacent oxygen and carbon. However, the hydrogen atom does not fall off after the transfer of electrons but is kept there with a positive charge. With this, another transfer of electrons occurs and an acetyl group is generated from the breaking of the acetic anhydride. Now, the acetyl group breaks off the positive hydrogen attached and acetic acidis generated as a result. With this, the ester, the aspirin, is created (Watson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women had competed at international competitions such as Wimbledon for a several years, but many of them were amateurs (oftentimes paid little). On a Saturday afternoon, after getting home early from work, Hogan stopped to talk with the Colonel. The Colonel obviously loved tennis, telling stories from competitions when in college and in the service. He amused the young boy with stories of tournaments, matches with famous players, and games in remote parts of the world. The Colonel considered tennis a sport, after one learns how to play it, that person can play for the rest of their life. When one has no one to play with, or their body stops working correctly, one can still enjoy a game of tennis (but not football, basketball, or baseball). Tennis could be played anywhere, as one can always find someone to play with. The Colonel hooked the young Hogan to play. • 42. Negative Effects Of Advertising In Advertising Over $10.7 trillion were spent by American consumers in 2011 (mentalfloss.com). To put that into perspective, with that amount of money, you could buy over thirteen trillion full size Hershey s bars, almost 450 million family cars, or cover the incomes of almost 205 million US families (kiplinger.com)! So, how exactly do companies get consumers to spend that much? Advertising! And it s not simply showing consumers what products or services these companies have to offer. In many cases, marketers lure consumers into buying from them by relying on common advertising traps. The first common trap is to tug on the heartstrings of Americans. Companies frequently create advertising that portrays people or animals dealing with difficult situations and asks the viewer for money to improve their lives. A real world example of this type of advertising is the numerous commercials produced by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or ASPCA. Most of their ads focus on an abandoned animal that shows obvious signs of neglect in order to encourage the viewer to empathize with the animal and donate money for their cause. Many people end up donating when they see ads like this because they may feel guilty about not helping another person or animal in need when they have the chance to do so or they may feel that their donations can directly help end the other person s or animal s suffering. The next ploy Americans fall for is the use of term free. Advertisers use the word free to create the illusion that the consumer is getting a great deal in order to encourage them to buy something they may not had wanted to buy in the first place. After all, who would not want something for free? But usually in order to get something free, the consumer must first meet certain conditions. For example, in order to qualify for free shipping on Amazon, you must spend a minimum of $25. Because the shipping and handling fee is so high, many people who only had planned to buy one or two cheap items end up shopping for additional items that they had not intended to buy just to get the free shipping. First, my post will attempt to describe the tenets of each philosophy. Then, it will discuss which of the two perspective is more beneficial with guiding American society s moral decision making. The morality debate consists of strong ideology from both ends of the philosophical spectrum, with both harkening back to ancient Grecian times. According to Mastin (2008), Plato and Aristotle were more proponent of Absolutism philosophy, while Sophists followed the relativism ideology (N.p.). In my research, I have found varying definitions of moral relativism, but each is based on the philosophy that morals are culturally based and are subject to individual choice. Moral relativism is the perspective that ethical and moral standards are culturally based, and therefore subject to personal, individual choice (moral relativism.com, 2016, N.p.). • 44. The Separation Of Powers Of The State And Its Powers A constitution is a set of laws and other sources or principles that explains the way in which the state is established. In short, it is a framework that explains the structure of the state and its powers. Unlike most modern states, Britain does not have a codified constitution but an unwritten one that exists in an abstract sense. It delineates the powers of the different branches of the state, and the restrictions placed on the institutions and on state power. It is comprised of various acts of Parliament, court judgements and conventions that have evolved over a long period of time. Since Britain does not have a written constitution, it enjoys the luxury of legislative supremacy. In UK terms the separation of powers, parliamentary supremacy, and the rule of law are all extremely important doctrines that pervade the constitution. The separation of powers is a doctrine or a theory that describes the way in which a state organises the distribution of power and function between its different branches. It was originally a work of the 18th century French commentator, Montesquieu, whose principles had a huge impact on the English constitution system. He also coined the term trias politica or separation of powers . Britain s was one of protectionism, but in their situation their policies seemed to be effective and played a significant role in the quick economic recovery Britain experienced during the 1930s. To explain my evaluation of the effectiveness of Britain s trade policy on their economic recovery in the 1930s, the differing views on the effect of the General Tariff will be examined, taking into account effective protection rates, nominal tariffs, and import substitutions. Additionally, the role trade regionalization played and the legacies that the trade policies left will be inspected. The most debated aspect of the effectiveness of their, now more protectionist, trade policies were the tariffs imposed by Britain. In Forrest Capie s The British Tariff and Industrial Protection in the 1930 s, he argues that the tariffs were a hindrance to the economic recovery. His conclusion is drawn from calculations on the effective protection rates on the tariffs from the General Tariff in 1932; where he found that the iron and steel industries effective protection rates were in the bottom 5% and construction was experiencing negative rates. This is important to him because these were industries that are supposed to have played a role in the recovery of the British economy in the 1930s, causing Capie to believe that if there were no tariffs Britain s economic recovery would have been ... The advertisements in the beauty industry highlight similar images; models are young and beautiful and they promote the idea that being youthful is better and more acceptable than appearing old . Once her white Nissan Juke flitted by, I took my turn by backing out of my employee parking space, following her lead. Alysha. No matter how snappy that woman gets, I could never actually bring myself to hate her. Who could, really. She meets my intellectual level, and we keep each other in check. I get her and she gets me, which is why we work so well together on a team. Beauty with a brain, I like to describe her. Our group was small. It consisted of Amie, William, and two other girls named Roly and Veronica. One by one, our cars pulled into the aquarium parking lot to find a space suitable for our wheels.
