A Sand County Almanac Analysis
A Sand County Almanac The first remark Aldo Leopold made that genuinely caught my attention
was during February when Leopold was talking about the spiritual dangers in not owning a farm.
Leopold discusses the work put into heating a house in the middle of winter. The cutting,
splitting, hauling, and piling of oak would make people realize the amount of work that goes into
the comfort of a warm house while most people sit next to a radiator and pay no attention to
where the heat comes from. Nevertheless, what the oak seedlings would have conquered in order
to become a tree. The oak tree has endured centuries of history before it could become a source of
heat for a home. The general population does not understand how much effort and time goes

Claude Research Paper
Conceptual Frame
World
Claude was born in Paris, France in the year 1840. Despite the fact that Paris was his birthplace,
Claude only spent 5 years of his childhood there as he and his family moved to Le Havre, a port
town in Normandy. Claude developed a love for art in his early childhood and was well known in
his town for drawing caricatures of his community members. His mother was highly encouraged his
talent whereas Claude s father wanted his son to become a businessman. Living in Le Havre,
Claude had many opportunities to strengthen his talent such as meeting Eugene Boudin who was a
local landscape artist and introduced Claude to landscape painting outdoors and set him on the
track to his future success. In 1859 Claude moved back to Paris to pursue his career in art.
During his time in Paris he was enrolled in the Academie Suisse and was influenced by the
paintings of Barbizon School. Other great influences on his art were his friends Charles Gleyre,
Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley and Frederic Bazille as well as Johann Barthold Jongkind who was
a well known landscape painter of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His audience especially supported him on his road to fame in the late 1880 s and 90 s after his
waterlilies series of artworks. During an exhibition in 1874 critics viewed Claude s work
Impression Sunrise and dubbed painters who do such artworks as Impressionists . This was
intended to be insulting as the critics thought the works to be more like unfinished drafts rather
than a complete artwork. Claude on the other hand quite liked the term and embraced it fully as it
fit his style quite well. During his lifetime Claude s works were displayed in the Salon and by the
SociГ©tГ© Anonyme des Artistes, Peintres, Sculpteurs, and Graveurs in Impression Exhibitions.
Currently, his works are displayed all over the world with most in Paris but many others in Britain,

Claude Mckay s Life During The Harlem Renaissance
During The Harlem Renaissance, artists and writers of the time period would express themselves
through the experiences that they gain from the streets of Harlem. Claude McKay s writings from
the Harlem Renaissance demonstrates life during that time period by showing the Renaissance as
defined, and defied the boundaries of The Harlem Renaissance.
On September 15, 1889, Festus Claudius McKay was born in Sunny Ville Jamaica. His father was
Thomas Francis McKay, and his mother was Hannah Ann Elizabeth Edwards. His parents
embraced their Malagasy and Ashanti heritage and taught Claude at a young age to embrace his
African pride. Claude McKay was the youngest of eleven children and was sent to live with his
eldest brother. His brother, Uriah Theodore,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He became aware of the beauty of the great European cathedrals, especially the Catholic ones in
Spain. He later realized that he believed in God in the early 1930s. In his poem Outcast he refers
to religion. It is first brought up in the beginning of the poem My spirit bondaged by the body,
longs . He is referring back to his heritage and his beliefs that he is further questioning. In the
article Home At Last , it states how Claude McKay became involved with the communist party,
but later began to find the religious outlooks of Christianity that were beneficial and
inspirational. It is stated that McKay made the decision to turn his political views into art that
later turned into Christianity. Later on in the poem, on lines 7 8, he states While to its alien
gods I bend my knee . In the analysis this poem in the article Thematic Trends in Claude McKay
s Selected Poems of the Harlem Era , it is stated under the topic of religion The persona having
been taken away from the shores of Africa is made to embrace alien gods in a foreign land. This
states how he was stuck in the memory of his heritage and felt imprisoned in a foreign land. A
novel that Claude McKay wrote close to the end of the Harlem Renaissance was discovered and
showed the influence Communism had on his writing. The manuscript was called Amiable With
Big Teeth . According to News York Times, the manuscript was A novel of

Evelyn Nesbit s Ragtime
While there are many important messages in the play Ragtime, I believe the most important one is
the message about how women were treated unequally when compared to men and how this is still
a relevant theme in the world today. While there are major differences to how the female culture
was in the 1900s when compared to now, there are still unjust similarities. Throughout the story
there are femalecharacters who represent the growth that women at that time were making
however, this growth is slow and I believe it is not yet finished even today.
Even though it may seem as though Evelyn Nesbit played an insignificant role in this play, she
represented much of the unequal treatment women. She represented a type of woman that was in
existence simply to entertain men, known everywhere as The girl on the velvet swing (Athrens 0).
By the end of the play, Evelyn was motivated by money and material which, in the end, was her
downfall. Her character represents the end of the era of women being considered objects, just as the
feminist movement was beginning. However, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and finds herself in the odd predicament of finding a child she exclaims Why in Gods name is
my husband not here! (Ahrens 39) and Where are your instructions, my dear? (Ahrens 39), we
realize she knows nothing of decision making. As the play goes on Mother keeps learning and
eventually finds herself doing everything father used to do. She is no longer the exemplary
symbol of what a wife with children should be. She is now an empowered woman who realizes
she can accomplish a great deal more than what she had originally thought possible of

Chipotle also has a very stable financial situation. Currently, their balance sheet contains $301
million in cash and just $3.81 million in debt exhibiting a high coverage ratio. They also operate at
margins much higher than most of the restaurant industry with a profit margin of 9.43%. Average
restaurant sales have stayed somewhat consistent over the past three years with a very slight
increase to about $1.8 million, but restaurant and company level margins have been increasing
consistently since 2005 with restaurants now operating at a 26.4% margin. All this has lead
Chipotle to believe that they will open about 140 new restaurants in 2010 which is a significant
jump from the 67 openings in the year ending September 30, 2010.
Chipotle is unique in the restaurant business for several reasons. First it has a very distinct plan
for its ingredients. In 1999, Steve Ells started Chipotle s emphasis on A Food With Integrity by
serving naturally raised pork in 2000 and naturally raised chicken in 2002; now 100% of Chipotle
pork and chicken is naturally raised. In 2004, Chipotle also started using zero trans fat frying oil.
Emphasis was also put on naturally raised beef in 2009 and so now 85% of beef is naturally raised
and by 2007 all sour cream and cheese products were rBGH free. Ells crusade for more humane and

Taking a Look at Water Chlorination
4.0 Water Chlorination
4.1 What is water chlorination?
Water chlorination is another process that is commonly used in the water treatment industry.
Chlorination can be defined as the addition of chlorine or hypochlorite to a water supply for
disinfection purposes. Pathogens present in drinking water can cause serious diseases upon
consumption and therefore need to be treated (Safe Drinking Water Foundation, 2009). Chlorination
is one of the various methods that is used to deactivate these pathogens and can be found in
operation at many municipal works across the country, including Killylane water treatment works. It
is often found as one of the final stages in a multiple stage treatment process, usually following a
filtration process.
Pathogens come in a variety of forms, such as viruses, bacteria or protozoa, and can have
devastating, even fatal consequences if not treated in a water supply. Before the mainstream
introduction of disinfection into the water treatment process, waterborne pathogens regularly
caused epidemics, and diseases like typhoid, cholera and dysentery were rife (Scientific American,
1998). As has been mentioned in the previous chapter, the rapid gravity filtration process is
relatively ineffective at removing these pathogens from the water and therefore disinfection is
required as a follow up treatment. Adding chlorine to water can inhibit a large range of microbial
waterborne pathogens, either killing them or decreasing their activity to a

Jerry Hendrickson Research Paper
When I first met Jerry Hendrickson, I thought he was pretty outgoing. I was sitting with my
friend, Maddie, at a table in the corner of the dining room at Morningside of Branson Meadows.
He was laughing already, which made me think he was a jokester. We were instantly able to hit it
off because he was really easy to talk to, which made asking questions and actually connecting with
him a lot easier.
He started off by telling us about his childhood, which was rough, but he did not let that tear
down his spirit. Which is something I look up to because I have dealt with similar situations with
my family. He was born in 1931 and lived with his mom, dad, and sister. He had two brothers as

Jerry got a lot of education he never got when he lived with his parents, and got a lot of training.
He went to military and contractor schools, which helped him learn a lot, but that was not
enough for young Jerry. Jerry was a Petty Officer 2nd Class and an aircraft engine mechanic
while in the Navy. Three months before his three year contract ended with the Navy, the Korean
War began, so Jerry could not be discharged. This led to him reenlisting in the Navy for another
six years. After the time he served in the Navy, someone suggested he go to the Air Force. His
brother suggested he go to San Antonio, Texas. While in the Air force, Jerry was in the tech
services for five years, and he also was very interested in airplanes. He served in the Air Force for
eleven years, and then retired at the age of 36 as a Senior Master Sergeant.. Which is pretty
impressive I think because he explained to us that a Senior Master Sergeant as being a higher rank
than Master Sergeant, but not the highest rank one can receive. A Senior Master Sergeant is the

brain damage she suffered caused my daughter to have to have a severe learning disability. I was
told by doctors when my daughter was two years old she would struggle with reading and writing

in so many other things in life. I knew doctors could be wrong in some diagnoses so I set out to

these obstacles by applying herself. She has spent double the time of a child without a learning

reading and writing she would struggle throughout her life. My daughter now seeks for
opportunities to stretch herself to learn and develop her brain. I know because my daughter has
learned her reading and writing skills she has gained the confidence needed to get a job and her
driver s license which would have never been possible without her literacy skills. My daughter will

A Simple Game of Catch
Though time goes on and experiences past, the memories live on and forever they last. Life is a
gift of beauty yet sometimes that gift can be tarnished by the darkness of pain. However, it s the
simple aspects of life that truly define who we are as individuals. A simple gameof catch is all it
ever took to make that darkness of life fade. A simple game of catch is all it ever took to bring back
the happiness that had been taken away. A simple game of catch is all it ever took. Baseballhas been
an important aspect of my life. Ever since childhood, I ve played the great game that I ve come to
love and hate. Though I have risen and fallen in my abilities, I still find a way to play the game.
When I was a child, I started my experiences of baseball by playing catch with my father in the
front yard of my house. We threw and we caught and we smacked our gloves the repeat the
process once again. Playing catch gave us a way to relax, a way to talk, and a way to connect.
When we threw to each other, it gave me a chance to train in my abilities and it gave my father a
way to relive his own childhood. Yet, as time went on and my interests changed, playing catch
became a thing in the past. Gone. Everything gone. My childhood faded, my dreams jaded, and my
innocence traded. Friends turned away laughing as I asked myself, What had just happened? Acting
my way through it all I knew something good

Ratification of Constitution Essay
The Constitution has been operative since 1789 after the ratification of nine states (American
Vision and Values, Page 52). Today many question the relevancy of a document 222 years old to
our society. The Founders created a governmental framework, defining three branches and giving
powers to the government and others to the states. It also guarantees the rights of the people. It
took two and one half years for the 13 colonies to ratify the Constitution. This ratification period
was one of great debate and produced a series of essays complied into The Federalist. Authored by
John Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay during the ratification debate in New York, they tried

To further strengthen the rights of the people, The Bill of Rights was ratified on December 15,
1791. With only the first ten amendments, it is no accident that two amendments, 9 and 10,
specifically define the Constitutions purpose to protect rights, given to the government from the
people; and the powers of the government are only those delegated to it by the Constitution on
behalf of the people (Spalding, Page 145). Madison in Federalist No. 10 (Page 131) also supports
the view of the Framers to have great and aggregate interests being referred to the national, the
local and particular to the State legislatures . Madison expounds further in Federalist No. 39 (Page

states being delegated the remaining objects . Federalism was created in the Constitution and while

Furthermore phantom limb pain is simply a sensation of pain. A patient experiences the pain in an
affected extremity that no longer exists (McCance Huether). Although nerve fibers have the

Inequality In Modern Society
It has almost been a decade since the financially crisis of 2008 sent the United States and global
economy on the edge of collapse. Even though the global economy didn t collapse millions of
people still lost their job, saving accounts, and homes. People all over the country were financially
ruined and many will never be able to reacquire their lost money. After the dust had settled from the
housing crises in 2008 the United Stateswas able to rebound and strengthened its economy.
There was one thing that stood out from this disaster, not one top bank executive was tried or
convicted. Not one bank representative went to prison. It seemed the very wealthy individuals and
banks were immune to the housing crash. The government had no problem bailing out the banking
institution which brought on this crises. It had been made clear there was a significant inequality
between the wealthy and everyone else. The inequality difference between the rich and everyone
else is effecting more than the numbers in a bank account but also wear down the foundation of
modern societies.
In the article How Inequality Erodes the foundation of Modern Societies author Robert Reich, who
is chancellor s professor of public policy at the University of Californian, Berkeley, identifies the
utmost single greatest threat to Western democracies is extreme inequality of it citizens. He states,

I Felt Like Making A Deep Breath Of Fresh Air
It is my impression that a poem is complicated, obscure, and must have deep meaning. However,
after reading William Carlos Williams poems, I felt like making a deep breath of fresh air. It
was the first time I felt that poems could be simple like this. In his poems, everything is
expressed in simple words. Even a reader as me, an international student, could understand his
words easily. Also, the images he described are the common but neglected scenes. Nonetheless,
when I closed the book, some of the images overlapped with my memory. It seemed like
something happened before in my experience but I ignored. The fragments now look so
beautiful. I especially like his poems To a Poor Old Woman, Poem, and Her Daughter. These
three poems help me to find the beauty around me, help me to change a direction to see the
world, help me to appreciate. In the poem To a Poor Old Woman, Williams described an old
woman eating plums on the street. Munching a plum on the street a paper bag of them in her
hand. I was laughing when I read this. Eagerly eating something on the street, I believe it
happened in many people s life. For example, I have a nice memory of eating a hot roast sweet
potato on the street in a cold winter afternoon. However, some people think eating on the street is
impolite and unsightly. In New York, eating on the street even is illegal in some residential
neighborhoods. For an poor old woman in the poem, she might had no free time or a spacious
dining room to enjoy her

Essay on Three Different Types of Human Memory
Memory is the diary we all carry about with us, Oscar Wilde once said. Now for a second
imagine a life without any memories! One wouldn t be able to remember his/her name, how to
look after themselves or to even recognize their own friends and family. It would be impossible
to live happily without ones memories. That is why our memories are such vital points in our
lives. They are the building blocks of our current selves. Due to those reasons it is very useful to
find as much information regarding it as possible. For that very purpose this research paper has
been written. The purpose of this research is to uncover the truth regarding how the human brain
stores and retrieve memories. Throughout this research, topics such as definition of... Show more

(Mastin, 2010)
The human brain is fabricated of 100 billion neurons. As one grows and develops, these neurons are
attached to each other, and communicate through thousands of connections called synapses.
(sciencemuseum.org.uk) .The brain is only reflected to process information that will be useful at a
later date, and to allow the rest or in other words unimportant information to pass by unnoted.
Memories are formed when certain connections inside our brain are strengthened. Human memory
is an intricate activity of the brain that allows us to store information and retrieve it again when we
need it. All people have a natural curiosity about their memory. This question came into account
several years ago by reports in the popular press of recovered memories from early childhood. This
question also brought along many other questions and whether infants can recall memory from any
length of time. Due to this sudden interest in the human memory, it led to many people assuming
that the time for the research on memory was then. (Rovee Collier, June 1999, pg.80) But that
belief is proved to be wrong. The study of human memory stretches back to at least to 20,000 years
ago. Aristotle made one of the earliest attempts to understand human memory in his thesis called On
the Soul . In his thesis Aristotle compared the human mind to a blank slate and hypothesized that all
humans are born unrestricted to any knowledge and are purely the

Disagreements Between North And South America In 1787
Autumn M, Colin H, Brayden C.Harding, Kyle R and Adam C In Philadelphia in 1787, 55
delegates including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Gouverneur Morris attended the
Convention to improve the Article of Confederation. There, they also discussed the many issues
between the North and South. There were many disagreements between the Northern and
Southern states, here are the two main disagreements. The first disagreement was the Southern
states wanted to keep slavery mostly for their own farms, so they can gain money from the slave
labor. The other disagreement was the North was so against slavery that Governor Morris
denounced slavery. He said it was the curse of heaven . This led up to the fugitive slave clause
and it states, a slave who escapes from slavery to a state where slavery was prohibited, shall be
delivered up on claim. The Southern states wanted this so that their slaves would not run away, the
Northern didn t want this because they were against slavery. Tariffs was a common disagreement

that tariffs were necessary for their business to prosper. The Southern states argued that tariffs

fugitive slave clause states that a person who escaped from slavery was prohibited shall be

Military Vs. Civilian Life
Many civilians end up thanking veterans for their service without knowing how their lives actually
differ. Military life can offer many differences that civilian life cannot. Having lived both lives, I
have an inside perspective on the differences between the two. These differences can include laws,
regulations, and the different types of punishment one may receive. Although, everything between
the two may seem different, there is also a similarity. That similarity, is encountering the same
personality types in the military as one would as a civilian. The last, the biggest difference between
military and civilian life is the benefits. Although the benefits may not seem like much, they are the
key reason people switch from civilian to military life.
Both military personnel and civilians must follow the local, state and federal law, except the
military has their own laws; known as the uniform code of military justice (UCMJ). Both military
and civilian citizens alike must follow all the laws of this land; an example of these laws could
be speeding, assault, or even underage drinking. While civilians only adhere to federal/state law,
members of the military obey these laws, as well as the UCMJ. The UCMJ is the basis for all
military law; these laws make up the 146 articles that are the UCMJ. The articles cover an
expansive amount of criminal offenses; such as rape, theft, and even murder. If a member of the
military violates these laws they use a civilian court system and will

The power of the crown and the authority of the government is limited by the Declaration of Man

The Power Of Fear In Al Gore s Assault On Reason
In the book, Assault on Reason(excerpt), Al Gore uses different techniques to show one central
theme, which is how fear affects people s ability to reason and this neuroscientific phenomenon is
used by politicians to their own advantages. To Gore, making people aware of what influence fear
can have on reason is an essential step towards pointing out the problems in the political system.
Gore makes the connection between the relationship of fear and reason and the political world by
mentioning the
American Revolution since the beginning of the book: Reason may sometimes dissipate fear, but
fear frequently shuts down reason. As Edmund Burke wrote in
England twenty years before the American Revolution, No passion so effectually robs the mind of
all its powers of acting and reasoning as fear. (Gore 23)
Gore shows the importance of this subject by talking about how leaders attitude towards fear can
affect national success. If the leaders use fear to control citizens, the nation can lose its ability to
make the right decision at important times. Gore directly points out the administration and press
are responsible for using fear to manipulate citizens. He introduces his central theme early in the
book to raise the interest of the readers: Clearly, the current administration has misused fear to
manipulate the political process, and I will return to this issue later in this chapter......A free press
is supposed to function as our democracy s immune system against such gross errors of fact and
understanding......When errors of fact and judgement are no longer caught and neutralized by the
nation s immune system, it is time to examine the problem and to work toward good health in our
political discourse (Gore 26).
After, Gore starts examining the root of the problem by explaining the neuroscience behind the
power of fear. Gore goes into depth about the effect trauma have on people, making the fear
response always feel present. Even telling traumatic stories or watching traumatic events on TV can
trigger the same response. Gore uses
9/11 TV viewers as an example, One analyst of this study said of respondents describing their
reactions to 9/11, Those who watched the most television reported the most stress. People who

Solubility Advantages And Disadvantages Of Lubricants In...
Lubricants
Lubricants as the name suggest, reduce friction between powder mix and the die walls during
compression and ejection. They also prevents the mixed powders/ granules from sticking to the
processing zone of the tablet press especially the punches and die. In some cases, lubricants reduce
inter particulate friction and thus, improve flow rates of powders or granules. The best lubricants
are those with low shear strength but strong cohesive tendencies perpendicular to the line of shear.
Lubricants can be classified based on their solubility characteristics into
Soluble lubricants e.g., Polyethylene glycol (PEG), Polyoxyethylene stearates, and Lauryl sulphate
salts.

They may also increase the aqueous solubility of poorly soluble drug substance in the
gastrointestinal tract and, as a result, the rate of dissolution of the active agent will increase. It
should be noted that the surfactants should not interact with the drug substance as this may affect
the dissolution rate of the drug substance. Example of surfactant include sodium lauryl sulphate
(One of the most popular surface active agent that improves the wetting properties of hydrophobic
tablets), Cetylpyridine chloride, glyceryl monooleate etc.
Conclusion
Excipients are essential in the formulation of tablet dosage forms as it ensures successful
manufacturing process and quality of the resultant formulation. Proper selection of excipients and
their relative concentrations in the formulation is important in development of a successful
pharmaceutical formulation. Although excipient are often categorized as inert, preformulation
studies can help determine how these excipient influence the stability, bioavailability, and
processability of the dosage forms.
The need for acquiring more information and use standards for excipients has been recognized in a
joint venture of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Council of the Pharmaceutical
Society of Great Britain. The result is called the Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients. This
reference work is now distributed widely throughout the world.

Increased productivity as a result of training and development within a sheriff s organization
Introduction Training and development is one of the fields in human resource management. It is
concerned with the activity of the organization that is aimed towards bettering the performance of
the individual members of the organization as well as groups and teams in the organization. It also
has other names such as learning and development and human resource development. It
encompasses three main activities. These are training, development and education. Training is the
activity which involves focusing on and evaluating the job that is held by the individual.
Development refers to the activities which focus on the activities taken by the organization which
employs the staff to better the working environment. These activities are next to impossible to
evaluate. Education refers to focusing on the jobs that individuals hold in future and it is evaluated
against these jobs. When an organization undertakes these training and development activities, they

smoke ventilation Essay
Smoke Ventilation
Firefighters, lately defined as heroes, have a very exciting job and do some pretty amazing things.
My main interests however, is how firefighters ventilate heat and smoke from a structure fire. What
pieces of equipment do they use? How do they use those pieces of equipment? Why ventilation is
so important and why do they take certain precautions when using their equipment?
Growing up in the woods has made my life a lot more different than an average city slicker. You
see, I have a thing about fire. It is one thing that is very interesting to me. Some things that are
interesting about fire is that it grows very fast and it is very dangerous, but that never ... Show more

Ventilation removes heated air, smoke and gasses and replaces those with cooler air to help fight
a fire. In more simple terms it takes out bad air and brings in good air. If a firefighter can do that
then they have the ability to enter the structure to try and fight the fire from the inside rather from
the out side. There is a lot of good things the Smoke Ventilation does which helps firefighters to
gain access into a structure.
Ventilation is one of the first things that a firefighter will do when dealing with a structure fire. It is
the beginning step to try and control a fire. There are four different kinds of ventilation, vertical,
horizontal, natural and forced. Depending on the situation firefighters determine which way they
are going to approach the structure fire. Planning the ventilation process is very important when
dealing with safety, to the best of my knowledge. Something can and may go wrong if ventilation is
not planned and coordinated correctly.
Ventilation plays a big part in strategy and tactics and is something that firefighters always consider
when they have to deal with a structure fire or any type of situation that involves smoke, heat and
gas. When ventilation is done correctly it has many advantages that help firefighters to control the
situation. The

How Significant was the Reformed Faith to the Success of...
The Dutch Revolt of the sixteenth century, was a conflict between the Protestant Low countries,
and the Catholic Spanish Empire. This resulted in the division of the seventeen provinces of the

Religious split. The Dutch speaking north were tolerant to various religious affiliations, whereas,
the French and Walloon South, remained loyal to Philip II, and were predominantly Catholic. In

Here, another fundamental factor is introduced, that of centralisation and the independence of the
individual provinces. Furthermore, Philip II, was a conservative Catholic. His policies to acquire
religious uniformity such as his edicts and the Inquisition, led to persecution of heretics, This
religious suppression resulted in further aggravation in relations. The Count of Egmont and the
Prince of Orange emerged as the leaders of the opposition
On 5th April 1566, The petition of compromise was presented to Margaret of Parma,by William of

put a stop to religious persecutions in the Netherlands, which were implemented through the edicts
and the inquisition. This document makes clear that inquisitions had not been adjusted since
Charles reign, and that now they were presented with different times things had changed. Here,
seems to indicate the introduction of Reformed Faith and ideas entering the Netherlands, had some
impact of some kind. The petition warns Philip of the situation, and presents the concerns of the
nobility, which is primarily that of their own interests, being their property. Religion is not
emphasised significantly. The consequences of a revolt would be detrimental to the nobles as they
would be unable to protect their lands. Additionally, fears of slanderous testimony been given about

Although physical torture is now illegal, it does not stop police from using other methods of
psychological deception. One of the most popular methods is showing the suspect falsified or
fabricated evidence, otherwise known as a false evidence ploy (FEP). There are three
categories: demeanor, testimonial and scientific. A study done in 2007 showed that ninety two
percent of a sample of 631 policemen used FEPs to gain a confession (Forrest, 2012). Demeanor
FEPs are characterized by the behavior of the suspect and using those assumptions to determine
whether or not he or she is guilty. Sayings such as We can tell the way you re acting that you are
not innocent and You don t seemed surprised or sad that he is dead show that detectives and
police use the suspects appearance and behavior to specify guilt, even though there is no evidence
proving it. Testimonial FEPs are one of the most common and consist of eyewitnesses, video
surveillance or a co conspirator that puts them at the place and time of the crime. In 2009 Nash and
Wade conducted a study showing the power behind this kind of FEP. All of the participants signed
and admission of guilt when viewing a falsified video recording or even the threat that there might
be incriminating evidence. Scientific FEPs are viewed as the most deceptive and coerced due to
their seemingly undeniable nature. These include fingerprints, DNA, medical reports and other

The Importance Of Crime On Crime
The lack of police in the city of Detroit can massively impact the crime rate to immense proportions.
In the deterrence theory, crime can be prevented if the punishment is certain, severe and swift
which means quick (Schram Tibbetts, pg. 35). The reason why people do not commit crimes is not
because of some deep moral reasons but because they fear getting caught and the consequences that
come after. Cesare Baccaria, the father of Criminal Justice, stated that the most important element
of deterrence in ensuring that people would not commit a crimewas the certainty of being caught.
Detroit s police, on the fact that it is undercut suffers heavenly on individuals avoiding deterrence.
Since there are not many figures of authority, an individual s fear of being caught is lowered and
can commit crimes because of it. The facts do indeed show that Detroit has become one of the
most dangerous cities in the U.S because of the lack of deterrence an individual feels.

high school next week. I was very nervous and scared, but my mother told me that the school was
going to be similar to my schoolin Egypt. I don t remember why I believed her at this time.
Thought, I think I wanted to believe that everything was going to be normal and regular. The
day before going to school, I went with my mother to buy all my school material. I got one of
this large expensive backpack, a pencil, three note books, and colors pens. When I got home, I
was relaxed and excited. I loved and enjoyed shopping for school supplies and clothes for my
new school. The first day, I woke up two hours early to get ready. I got my hair done and my
makeup looked pretty. My mother had to drive me to school because I didn t know my bus
number. When I arrived to school, I thought we were in the wrong place, or my mother took me to
the mall by accident. The high schoolwas two floor high (looked higher), had a large football field
that could fit a large air plane, and parking lot that could fit hundred cars. I needed to get to the
registration office because the day I picked my classschedule they told me someone was going to
show me around. After looking around for any signs and trying multiple doors, I looked for
someone to show me the way. My English was not bad, but I still had to

Revenge of Medea
Medea was such a different woman and people in her society were afraid of her, including men.
As a result of this, before Jason, she never experienced being in love. When she finally experienced
this type of love she went to no end for Jason. To protect Jason and her love for him she killed the
beast guarding the Golden Fleece, she killed her brother, and she left her home, family and
everything she knew for him. Most women would not have gone that far for love, especially
women during her time; but Medea was not your average woman. All of the things she did for
Jason. But start when Jason betray her, all the bad feeling coming.

Being a stranger is hard and when your love one betray is harder. She also said to the woman of
the Corinth, You have this city, your father s home. I m alone; I have no city; now my husband
insults me. (Pg. 25, line. 5 8). She said her family gone and she does not have anyone to lean on.
The only person she has was her husband but now her husband going to leave her and marry
another woman. She had betrayed her father because of Jason. She did everything for Jason. So
she does not have family to return. This is very emotional because when we feel sad, we just
need someone to talk to or someone who with us to encourage us. But Medea was in another
country with different culture and believes. She said in the country where she from if a man
grows tired of the company at home, he can go out, and find a cure for tediousness. We wives are
forced to look to one man only. (pg. 24, line. 30 32). For her she rather die instead of seeing her
husband leaving her and she wants only her husband to her and no other woman between her and
Jason.
This is what Medea said to the woman of Corinth If I can find a way to work revenge on Jason for
his wrongs to me, say nothing. (Pg. 25, line 11 13). She said that because he s the only person
she has and she has no one to help her and no justices to help her. And if Jason leaves her she has
no one to return to. It is very easy to agree

Black Power By Stokely Carmichael
Almost fifty years ago members of the Black Panther Party, carrying shotguns and rifles, marched
into the California State Capitol to protest the Mumford Bill, which would soon severely restrict
their right to carry around these weapons. Months before this show de force, which would soon
become one of the most famous historical depictions of the Black Powerera, reporters and
government agents had already began to follow each and every step of Stokely Carmichael,
chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordination Committee. Carmichael, who had popularized
the slogan Black Power in mid June of 1966, polarized the nation. The media, which largely
portrayed him as an irresponsible proponent of violence over his failure to distance himself from...

Recent scholarship has challenged this notion by scrutinizing the high level of racial discrimination
and segregation that existed in the city despite the lack of codified Jim Crow legislation. Hence, an
examination of the patterns that shaped the reactions to Carmichael s visit, especially those of the
local racial etiquette, which might have been compounded by the fact that Nashville is the capital
of Tennessee, will contribute to our understanding of the local framing of the Black liberation
struggle in the later half of the 1960s. Moreover, scholars have shown that the outsider theme has
been a common and popular notion in regulating and reinforcing the racial status quo in Nashville
and in other place around the nation. Hence, an examination of the complex nature of local
opposition to Black Power has the potential to increase our understanding about the exploits of the
resistance to Carmichael s presence in Music City. Contrary to what most of the literature on the
Black Power movement suggests, the radicals criticism cannot be reduced to a contestation and
negation of the legitimacy of prominent civil rights leadership or White society, it also entailed a
condemnation of the power structure and the lack of solidarity within the Black community.

Essay on Rabbit Proof Fence
Rabbit Proof Fence in the context of Australian identity:
In the introductory lecture our attention was focused on a number of core themes which run
throughout the course. One such theme was the concept of a nation and the way in which cultural
products of the nation shape our sense of identity. Rabbit Proof Fence is an important film to
examine within this context as it is the first international film to examine the issue of Australia s
Stolen Generation. The film brought the story of the Australian Stolen Generation to a wide
audience, both nationally and internationally. Today I am going to consider what kind of impact the
film had and also a number of important points concerning the film.
The film is an adaptation of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film runs through a simple, yet effective plot of abduction, incarceration, escape, pursuit and
finally homecoming. The film removes all extraneous material for example the initial journey from
Jigalong to the Moore River native settlement is condensed. Therefore it is evident that the film
privileges narrative interpretation over historical accuracy.
To what extent do Hollywood narrative conventions override the historical Aboriginal experience
which is fore grounded in the book?
The film combines documentary techniques with emotive scenes to encourage a certain response
from the audience. The documentary footage acts to encourage the audience to see the film as one
of truth and realism. The film is introduced by the living Molly who speaks in dialect and ends
with documentary like footage of herself and Daisy walking over the land. These scenes attempt to
frame the narrative as one of truth and place the narrative in context.
Moreover, the

Women In Renaissance Italy
In Renaissance Italy a woman s personal identity wasn t of any great importance. Her worth in
society was calculated on how well she fit into the ideological image of the Renaissance woman.
Women depicted in art were from the upper class and nobility, these women were confined to their
domestic duties as their unions were to further the fortunes of their families. The rise of humanism
in RenaissanceItaly lead to an enlightened sense of the importance of individualism; however the
belief failed to extend to women. The impact of Humanism in female portraiture showing the sitter
as a fully realised person with intellect, talents, and personality is frustratingly absent with few
works displaying a grasp on the humanity of their female subjects.... Show more content on

Side Effects Of Vaccination Essay
Vaccines very rarely have any adverse effects and have been proven to have no link to the
development of ASD in children. Nevertheless, parents continue to fear them. While this
research article by Andrew Wakefield along with twelve others from the Royal Free Medical
School in London seems legitimate, the data was found to be distorted (Deer). Moreover, the
article was then retracted in 2010 and Wakefield s medical license was revoked (Deer). In
Wakefield s research of the children, it was found that only one clearly had regressive autism
(Deer). In fact, many of the children that Wakefield had studied in the article had developmental
delays, and also facial dysmorphisms noted before MMR vaccination(Deer). Even after the article
was retracted and it was proven that his research was unfounded, there continued to be skepticism

Araby Historical Context
Milestone Project I Part II: Sources and Historical Context When it comes to the theories of
Feminist Criticism and Psychoanalytical Criticism an interesting aspect can be found, that at times
they often dispute or ignore one another, though they often coincide. Another aspect that follows
along with this is that the often intertwine with each other. Having both these topics to analyze the

James Joyce wrote each story as a perspective view into an Irish culture. One of the main settings

Edgar Degas And Western Realism In Hokusai s Impressionism
Edgar Degas appears to have never accommodated himself to the name of impressionist, wanting
to call himself a realist, independent, or free. Like the impressionists, he looked to catch transient
minutes in the stream of present day life, yet he demonstrated little enthusiasm for painting plein
air scenes, favoring scenes in theaters and bistros lit up by fake light, which he used to
illuminate the forms of his figures, complying to his training. Degas s choice of subject matter
mirrors his modern cutting edge approach. He best liked scenes of ballet dancers. His
concentration to ballet dancers increased strongly in the late 1800s, and eventually he composed
nearly 2,000 works on the area. They address the way the human body moves, investigating the
physicality and train of the ballet dancers using distorted stances and abrupt vantage points.
Without the Japanese printmaker Hokusai, Impressionism may never have happened. He is a
father figure of Western Modernism. In Japan, Hokusai was viewed as crude, underneath the
thought of the magnificent literati. In the West, his outline of space with color and line, as
opposed to by means of one point perspective, would have a revolutionary effect. Most artist were
influenced by his landscapes but Degas, he was influenced by Hokusai s rendering of human
forms. You can truly see how he was influence by Hokusai in his bathers artwork. Degas was
uncommonly interested in women s private, rather than public, appearances. Degas

Although India is a developing country, in the last few years due to economic crises, the country
has been facing numerous challenges. Despite the situation, very recently it has been
acknowledged that the Indian market has seen as increase in the demand for luxury items
specially Luxury Cars. Another fact to be considered is that the demand of such cars is not only
increased in Tier I cities but also in Tier II and Tier III cities. In view of this shift in buying

Lamborghini and others now have their eye on Indian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most significant barriers comprises the brand equityenjoyed by most established brands.
The repute of the brand is extremely important to customers; luxury brands such as Jaguar,
Mercedes Benz, BMW and Audi have a long and magnificent history to boast about, and the
companies work hard to preserve the association between them and other symbols of individuality
and of top notch quality and performance.
Although several Asian companies have developed new luxury brands to compete with the
traditional European and American brands, it is extremely difficult for challengers to match the
prestige of brands with years of history.
Another challenging barrier to entry is the huge initial investment required to enter car markets in
general. Large amounts of capital are required to set up manufacturing facilities and invest in R
D, among other large expenses. This also creates large sunk costs and makes it hard to achieve
economies of scale. The capital requirements are one of the main reasons why new luxury brands
have been produced by companies which were already present in the market as large car
manufacturers (Toyota s Lexus and Nissan s Infiniti) and not by new, free standing,

Program Evaluation Program evaluation is a tool used for evaluating and assessing a program in
place. This paper will describe program evaluation and how it can be useful for an organization
wishing to determine the efficiency, effectiveness, and the impact of a program. Five of the most
common program evaluation models will be introduced. A number of different models are used by
those who evaluate programs. This paper will describe, in detail, the success case method for
evaluations.

Five Most Common Types of Program Evaluation Models The five most common types of
program evaluations are ones that assess the program s efficiency, assess the program s design and
theory, assess the program s impact on the community or end user, assess the program s process or
implementation, and assess the need for the program.
Success Case Model for Evaluation According to Brinkerhoff (1983), success case evaluation seeks
qualitative information about a few subjects rather than seeking thinner, quantifiable data about
many subjects. The success case model derives information from those participants who have
benefited from the program according to the goals and objectives the program intends to have.
This feedback may be helpful to others who have not benefitted as well from the program. Success
cases may be studies briefly through short interviews with a few trainees or through more elaborate
approaches, such as work sample analysis, records analysis and observation (Brinkerhoff, 1983,
para. 9). Some uses of the success case method are illustrating that the program has a positive
impact, modifying and strengthening the program being evaluated, and building data collection

The Great Gatsby And 1984 Analysis
Karl Marx s theory of Marxism suggest that the authority of the bourgeoisie comes from their

  • 3. A Sand County Almanac Analysis A Sand County Almanac The first remark Aldo Leopold made that genuinely caught my attention was during February when Leopold was talking about the spiritual dangers in not owning a farm. Leopold discusses the work put into heating a house in the middle of winter. The cutting, splitting, hauling, and piling of oak would make people realize the amount of work that goes into the comfort of a warm house while most people sit next to a radiator and pay no attention to where the heat comes from. Nevertheless, what the oak seedlings would have conquered in order to become a tree. The oak tree has endured centuries of history before it could become a source of heat for a home. The general population does not understand how much effort and time goes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Claude Research Paper Conceptual Frame World Claude was born in Paris, France in the year 1840. Despite the fact that Paris was his birthplace, Claude only spent 5 years of his childhood there as he and his family moved to Le Havre, a port town in Normandy. Claude developed a love for art in his early childhood and was well known in his town for drawing caricatures of his community members. His mother was highly encouraged his talent whereas Claude s father wanted his son to become a businessman. Living in Le Havre, Claude had many opportunities to strengthen his talent such as meeting Eugene Boudin who was a local landscape artist and introduced Claude to landscape painting outdoors and set him on the track to his future success. In 1859 Claude moved back to Paris to pursue his career in art. During his time in Paris he was enrolled in the Academie Suisse and was influenced by the paintings of Barbizon School. Other great influences on his art were his friends Charles Gleyre, Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley and Frederic Bazille as well as Johann Barthold Jongkind who was a well known landscape painter of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His audience especially supported him on his road to fame in the late 1880 s and 90 s after his waterlilies series of artworks. During an exhibition in 1874 critics viewed Claude s work Impression Sunrise and dubbed painters who do such artworks as Impressionists . This was intended to be insulting as the critics thought the works to be more like unfinished drafts rather than a complete artwork. Claude on the other hand quite liked the term and embraced it fully as it fit his style quite well. During his lifetime Claude s works were displayed in the Salon and by the SociГ©tГ© Anonyme des Artistes, Peintres, Sculpteurs, and Graveurs in Impression Exhibitions. Currently, his works are displayed all over the world with most in Paris but many others in Britain, the USA and other European ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Claude Mckay s Life During The Harlem Renaissance During The Harlem Renaissance, artists and writers of the time period would express themselves through the experiences that they gain from the streets of Harlem. Claude McKay s writings from the Harlem Renaissance demonstrates life during that time period by showing the Renaissance as defined, and defied the boundaries of The Harlem Renaissance. On September 15, 1889, Festus Claudius McKay was born in Sunny Ville Jamaica. His father was Thomas Francis McKay, and his mother was Hannah Ann Elizabeth Edwards. In the analysis this poem in the article Thematic Trends in Claude McKay s Selected Poems of the Harlem Era , it is stated under the topic of religion The persona having been taken away from the shores of Africa is made to embrace alien gods in a foreign land. • 6. Evelyn Nesbit s Ragtime While there are many important messages in the play Ragtime, I believe the most important one is the message about how women were treated unequally when compared to men and how this is still a relevant theme in the world today. While there are major differences to how the female culture was in the 1900s when compared to now, there are still unjust similarities. Throughout the story there are femalecharacters who represent the growth that women at that time were making however, this growth is slow and I believe it is not yet finished even today. Even though it may seem as though Evelyn Nesbit played an insignificant role in this play, she represented much of the unequal treatment women. She represented a type of woman that was in existence simply to entertain men, known everywhere as The girl on the velvet swing (Athrens 0). By the end of the play, Evelyn was motivated by money and material which, in the end, was her downfall. Her character represents the end of the era of women being considered objects, just as the feminist movement was beginning. However, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, once Mother is on her own and finds herself in the odd predicament of finding a child she exclaims Why in Gods name is my husband not here! (Ahrens 39) and Where are your instructions, my dear? (Ahrens 39), we realize she knows nothing of decision making. As the play goes on Mother keeps learning and eventually finds herself doing everything father used to do. She is no longer the exemplary symbol of what a wife with children should be. Average restaurant sales have stayed somewhat consistent over the past three years with a very slight increase to about $1.8 million, but restaurant and company level margins have been increasing consistently since 2005 with restaurants now operating at a 26.4% margin. All this has lead Chipotle to believe that they will open about 140 new restaurants in 2010 which is a significant jump from the 67 openings in the year ending September 30, 2010. Chipotle is unique in the restaurant business for several reasons. First it has a very distinct plan for its ingredients. In 1999, Steve Ells started Chipotle s emphasis on A Food With Integrity by serving naturally raised pork in 2000 and naturally raised chicken in 2002; now 100% of Chipotle pork and chicken is naturally raised. • 9. Taking a Look at Water Chlorination 4.0 Water Chlorination 4.1 What is water chlorination? Water chlorination is another process that is commonly used in the water treatment industry. Chlorination can be defined as the addition of chlorine or hypochlorite to a water supply for disinfection purposes. Pathogens present in drinking water can cause serious diseases upon consumption and therefore need to be treated (Safe Drinking Water Foundation, 2009). Chlorination is one of the various methods that is used to deactivate these pathogens and can be found in operation at many municipal works across the country, including Killylane water treatment works. It is often found as one of the final stages in a multiple stage treatment process, usually following a filtration process. Pathogens come in a variety of forms, such as viruses, bacteria or protozoa, and can have devastating, even fatal consequences if not treated in a water supply. Before the mainstream introduction of disinfection into the water treatment process, waterborne pathogens regularly caused epidemics, and diseases like typhoid, cholera and dysentery were rife (Scientific American, 1998). As has been mentioned in the previous chapter, the rapid gravity filtration process is relatively ineffective at removing these pathogens from the water and therefore disinfection is required as a follow up treatment. Adding chlorine to water can inhibit a large range of microbial waterborne pathogens, either killing them or decreasing their activity to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Jerry Hendrickson Research Paper When I first met Jerry Hendrickson, I thought he was pretty outgoing. I was sitting with my friend, Maddie, at a table in the corner of the dining room at Morningside of Branson Meadows. He was laughing already, which made me think he was a jokester. However, after reading William Carlos Williams poems, I felt like making a deep breath of fresh air. It was the first time I felt that poems could be simple like this. In his poems, everything is expressed in simple words. Even a reader as me, an international student, could understand his words easily. Also, the images he described are the common but neglected scenes. Nonetheless, when I closed the book, some of the images overlapped with my memory. It seemed like something happened before in my experience but I ignored. The fragments now look so beautiful. I especially like his poems To a Poor Old Woman, Poem, and Her Daughter. As one grows and develops, these neurons are attached to each other, and communicate through thousands of connections called synapses. Memories are formed when certain connections inside our brain are strengthened. Human memory is an intricate activity of the brain that allows us to store information and retrieve it again when we need it. All people have a natural curiosity about their memory. This question came into account several years ago by reports in the popular press of recovered memories from early childhood. This question also brought along many other questions and whether infants can recall memory from any length of time. Due to this sudden interest in the human memory, it led to many people assuming that the time for the research on memory was then. The Power Of Fear In Al Gore s Assault On Reason In the book, Assault on Reason(excerpt), Al Gore uses different techniques to show one central theme, which is how fear affects people s ability to reason and this neuroscientific phenomenon is used by politicians to their own advantages. To Gore, making people aware of what influence fear can have on reason is an essential step towards pointing out the problems in the political system. Gore makes the connection between the relationship of fear and reason and the political world by mentioning the American Revolution since the beginning of the book: Reason may sometimes dissipate fear, but fear frequently shuts down reason. As Edmund Burke wrote in England twenty years before the American Revolution, No passion so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and reasoning as fear. (Gore 23) Gore shows the importance of this subject by talking about how leaders attitude towards fear can affect national success. If the leaders use fear to control citizens, the nation can lose its ability to make the right decision at important times. Gore directly points out the administration and press are responsible for using fear to manipulate citizens. He introduces his central theme early in the book to raise the interest of the readers: Clearly, the current administration has misused fear to manipulate the political process, and I will return to this issue later in this chapter......A free press is supposed to function as our democracy s immune system against such gross errors of fact and understanding......When errors of fact and judgement are no longer caught and neutralized by the nation s immune system, it is time to examine the problem and to work toward good health in our political discourse (Gore 26). After, Gore starts examining the root of the problem by explaining the neuroscience behind the power of fear. Gore goes into depth about the effect trauma have on people, making the fear response always feel present. Even telling traumatic stories or watching traumatic events on TV can trigger the same response. Gore uses 9/11 TV viewers as an example, One analyst of this study said of respondents describing their reactions to 9/11, Those who watched the most television reported the most stress. The best lubricants are those with low shear strength but strong cohesive tendencies perpendicular to the line of shear. It should be noted that the surfactants should not interact with the drug substance as this may affect the dissolution rate of the drug substance. Example of surfactant include sodium lauryl sulphate (One of the most popular surface active agent that improves the wetting properties of hydrophobic tablets), Cetylpyridine chloride, glyceryl monooleate etc. Conclusion Excipients are essential in the formulation of tablet dosage forms as it ensures successful manufacturing process and quality of the resultant formulation. Proper selection of excipients and their relative concentrations in the formulation is important in development of a successful pharmaceutical formulation. Although excipient are often categorized as inert, preformulation studies can help determine how these excipient influence the stability, bioavailability, and processability of the dosage forms. My main interests however, is how firefighters ventilate heat and smoke from a structure fire. What pieces of equipment do they use? How do they use those pieces of equipment? Why ventilation is so important and why do they take certain precautions when using their equipment? Growing up in the woods has made my life a lot more different than an average city slicker. In more simple terms it takes out bad air and brings in good air. If a firefighter can do that then they have the ability to enter the structure to try and fight the fire from the inside rather from the out side. There is a lot of good things the Smoke Ventilation does which helps firefighters to gain access into a structure. Ventilation is one of the first things that a firefighter will do when dealing with a structure fire. It is the beginning step to try and control a fire. There are four different kinds of ventilation, vertical, horizontal, natural and forced. Depending on the situation firefighters determine which way they are going to approach the structure fire. Planning the ventilation process is very important when dealing with safety, to the best of my knowledge. Something can and may go wrong if ventilation is not planned and coordinated correctly. Ventilation plays a big part in strategy and tactics and is something that firefighters always consider when they have to deal with a structure fire or any type of situation that involves smoke, heat and gas. The Count of Egmont and the Prince of Orange emerged as the leaders of the opposition On 5th April 1566, The petition of compromise was presented to Margaret of Parma,by William of Orange, who was accompanied by approximately 200 armed men. In the deterrence theory, crime can be prevented if the punishment is certain, severe and swift which means quick (Schram Tibbetts, pg. 35). The reason why people do not commit crimes is not because of some deep moral reasons but because they fear getting caught and the consequences that come after. Cesare Baccaria, the father of Criminal Justice, stated that the most important element of deterrence in ensuring that people would not commit a crimewas the certainty of being caught. Detroit s police, on the fact that it is undercut suffers heavenly on individuals avoiding deterrence. Since there are not many figures of authority, an individual s fear of being caught is lowered and can commit crimes because of it. The facts do indeed show that Detroit has become one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S because of the lack of deterrence an individual feels. Chapter 4. What Were They Thinking? Recent scholarship has challenged this notion by scrutinizing the high level of racial discrimination and segregation that existed in the city despite the lack of codified Jim Crow legislation. Hence, an examination of the patterns that shaped the reactions to Carmichael s visit, especially those of the local racial etiquette, which might have been compounded by the fact that Nashville is the capital of Tennessee, will contribute to our understanding of the local framing of the Black liberation struggle in the later half of the 1960s. Moreover, scholars have shown that the outsider theme has been a common and popular notion in regulating and reinforcing the racial status quo in Nashville and in other place around the nation. Hence, an examination of the complex nature of local opposition to Black Power has the potential to increase our understanding about the exploits of the resistance to Carmichael s presence in Music City. Contrary to what most of the literature on the Black Power movement suggests, the radicals criticism cannot be reduced to a contestation and negation of the legitimacy of prominent civil rights leadership or White society, it also entailed a condemnation of the power structure and the lack of solidarity within the Black community. ... Edgar Degas And Western Realism In Hokusai s Impressionism Edgar Degas appears to have never accommodated himself to the name of impressionist, wanting to call himself a realist, independent, or free. Like the impressionists, he looked to catch transient minutes in the stream of present day life, yet he demonstrated little enthusiasm for painting plein air scenes, favoring scenes in theaters and bistros lit up by fake light, which he used to illuminate the forms of his figures, complying to his training. Degas s choice of subject matter mirrors his modern cutting edge approach. He best liked scenes of ballet dancers. His concentration to ballet dancers increased strongly in the late 1800s, and eventually he composed nearly 2,000 works on the area. They address the way the human body moves, investigating the physicality and train of the ballet dancers using distorted stances and abrupt vantage points. Without the Japanese printmaker Hokusai, Impressionism may never have happened. He is a father figure of Western Modernism. The repute of the brand is extremely important to customers; luxury brands such as Jaguar, Mercedes Benz, BMW and Audi have a long and magnificent history to boast about, and the companies work hard to preserve the association between them and other symbols of individuality and of top notch quality and performance. Although several Asian companies have developed new luxury brands to compete with the traditional European and American brands, it is extremely difficult for challengers to match the prestige of brands with years of history. Another challenging barrier to entry is the huge initial investment required to enter car markets in general. Large amounts of capital are required to set up manufacturing facilities and invest in R D, among other large expenses. This also creates large sunk costs and makes it hard to achieve economies of scale. The capital requirements are one of the main reasons why new luxury brands have been produced by companies which were already present in the market as large car manufacturers (Toyota s Lexus and Nissan s Infiniti) and not by new, free standing, ... Five Most Common Types of Program Evaluation Models The five most common types of program evaluations are ones that assess the program s efficiency, assess the program s design and theory, assess the program s impact on the community or end user, assess the program s process or implementation, and assess the need for the program. Success Case Model for Evaluation According to Brinkerhoff (1983), success case evaluation seeks qualitative information about a few subjects rather than seeking thinner, quantifiable data about many subjects. The success case model derives information from those participants who have benefited from the program according to the goals and objectives the program intends to have. This feedback may be helpful to others who have not benefitted as well from the program. Success cases may be studies briefly through short interviews with a few trainees or through more elaborate approaches, such as work sample analysis, records analysis and observation (Brinkerhoff, 1983, para. 9). Some uses of the success case method are illustrating that the program has a positive impact, modifying and strengthening the program being evaluated, and building data collection methods to determine the extent of ... Road Construction International Infrastructure Project Cost Estimating Work Breakdown Paul Hewitt, International Project Estimating Limited Introduction Construction Cost Estimating Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) The term WBS has become a common term in all fields related to Cost Engineering including Construction Cost Estimating, Scheduling and Project Cost Control. A well defined WBS is the backbone of good Construction Estimating Software and can take several forms including the breakdown of items within an estimate, the layout of groups within a schedule or the rollup of accounts within a cost report. It usually starts with a client s desire to breakdown a tender into definable pay items, followed by the project manager s wish to schedule activities of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The current CSI MasterFormat в„ў 2004 Edition [1] comes closest to covering all the scope of work found in the construction of Building Facilities and Site Work. It falls short in addressing the unique requirements of estimators, schedulers and cost engineers in identifying all phases of work included in major Infrastructure work such as Build Own and Transfer (BOT) projects. This Standard Work Breakdown attempts to format the project into a multi level WBS suited to estimate, schedule, track cost and measure performance on international infrastructure projects. The breakdown is also designed to facilitate the data transfer of a standard work breakdown between common estimating, scheduling and cost control software applications. The International Infrastructure Project Work Breakdown Structure(WBS) The following paragraphs outline the various sub projects and phases within the Civil Infrastructure WBS. The Sub Projects within a Civil Infrastructure Project Life Cycle Traditional work breakdown structures in the past have only identified the Construction Divisions within a project. This proposed work breakdown includes all phases within the life span of the project cycle, including Development, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Transfer and Risk. 1 Project Capital Cost 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.5 1.6 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.5 3.1 3.2 3.3 3.4 3.5 Overhead Construction Equipment Engineering Design ... In order to perpetuate their wealth and disguise their corrupt interior, they must oppress and exploit the proletariat through false consciousness. Both Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and George Orwell s 1984 establishes societies that explores the Capitalismand Totalitarianism. George Orwell does that by setting 1984 in a futuristic totalitarian regime where the proletariat is under absolute control by the Party in order to eternalize their power over its citizens. Although liquor is prohibited for production except for medical usage, alcoholic beverages are still readily accessible. During Myrtle Wilson s party, Nick Carraway describes that The bottle of whiskey a second one was now in constant demand by all present (Fitzgerald, 36). The presence of illegal alcohol at the corners of every street signify the limited control the American government has over the actions of its citizens. In other words, the citizens of The Great Gatsby are free to challenge the authorities who enforce the laws. In addition to the strict surveillance used to control the state of Oceania, the Party induces fear into its citizens to dominate them mentally. After committing thoughtcrime by expressing his dissatisfaction with the Party in a forbidden diary, Winston expresses his terror for capture when he says that [the] patrols did not matter, however. Only the Thought Police mattered (Orwell, 4). Like Winston, citizens in Oceania are mentally crippled by the rumors about the Thought Police s ruthlessness. The mysterious nature of the organization prevents the exercise of individuality freedom and choice by suppressing and crippling any free thinking. Not only does the Party control the people physically with constant surveillance, they also attempt to take utter control over their mental state. In contrast, even law enforcers of the Roaring Twenties lack a sense of morality and justice. When Gatsby was caught speeding by a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
