Landmark Educational Court Cases Essay
Throughout history there have been various influential court cases involving Education. These
important cases and their outcomes act as milestones on the road to a successful education System
in the United States. Topics such as race, religion and gender equality within schools have all been
vigorously debated upon and have ultimately played major roles in shaping today s education
system. By examining civil rights and acting upon these rights many important educational court
cases have allowed many students a greater chance for efficient and equal learning opportunities in
the classroom.
Brief History
One of the important landmark educational court cases, is the 1974 ruling of Lau v. Nichols. As
more immigrants establish homes in the United States, they face many difficulties adapting to
everyday life having English as their second language or having no knowledge of the English
language at all. During 1971, San Francisco schools were integrated and created more diverse and
bilingual groups of students which exemplified this issue within the school system (Developing
ELL Programs). Though previous actions had been made to accommodate students with lack of
English proficiency, there were still a large number of students that did not receive any help.
Lau, along with many other Chinese American students in San Francisco found their school district
did not do its job in providing equal opportunity to students in this circumstance. This resulted in a
landmark court case

by the sheer violence of Emily s novel. (GS 1)
Sadly, in September 1848 Emily s brother had fell victim to drugs and alcohol after failing to
become a famous painter, around the same time Emily s illness had started. Strangely, Emily didn

With the arts the artists began to think on their own and those movements began to spread. It was
not just what the church said anymore that was right. Humanism, one of the new beliefs which was
formed during the Renaissance, said that people should read the works of the greats and focus on
writing, and the arts. Humanists believed that they were equal with the ancient Greek and Roman
writers and philosophers. Petrarch was the original humanist, and a writer who wrote many letters
to the people of ancient Rome. In those letters he spoke as if he was an equal with them. Another of
the new beliefs was scholasticism, which was the opposite of humanism. Scholastics thought that
people should spend more time the sciences, they also wanted the church and science to be brought

Rabbi Moshe Ben Maimon, A Jewish Scholar, Astrologer And...
Rabbi Moshe Ben Maimon, commonly known as Maimonides or by the acronym RaMBaM, was a
Jewish scholar, astrologer and physician of the twelfth century considered to be one of Judaism s
greatest sages. His revolutionary publications were essential in the development of the Shulchan
Aruch, the practiced Code of Jewish Law and maintaining Jewish continuity throughout the ages.
Maimonideswas born in 1135 in Cordoba, Spain to his mother and father, Rabbi Maimon, and
would go on to study medicine and philosophy in unison with his religious studies.
From a young age, Maimonides father mentored him in the teachings of the Talmud, Torah, Jewish
philosophy and secular sciences. His education in these areas would eventually fuel his writings. In
1148, when Maimonides was just 13, a Sunni Muslim Caliphate movement called the Almohades
invaded Southern Spain, and he and his family were forced to flee their hometown.
The Almohades invasion marked the end of the Golden Age of Jewish culture in Spain, where
although Jews were not fist class citizens, they lived free of persecution and were able to conduct
businesses and lead relatively peaceful lives. The Almohades invasion put great pressure on its
Jewish inhabitants, posing a serious threat to Jewish continuity. Many religious institutions
dissolved, including synagogues and yeshivas, and Sharia Law now dictated everyday life for
Christians and Jews of Spain. Non Muslims were given the choice to convert to Islam or die or else

David Hume s Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion Essay
David Hume s Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion provide conflicting arguments about the
nature of the universe, what humans can know about it, and how their knowledge can affect their
religious beliefs. The most compelling situation relates to philosophical skepticism and religion; the
empiricist character, Cleanthes, strongly defends his position that skepticismis beneficial to religious
belief. Under fire from an agnostic skeptic and a rationalist, the empiricist view on skepticism and
religion is strongest in it s defense. This debate is a fundamental part of the study of philosophy:
readers must choose their basic understanding of the universe and it s creator, upon which all other
assumptions about the universe will be made.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When they are young, they will be taught about the supremacy of religion and the fallibility of
philosophy and science. Demea s theology resembles the god of the gaps perspective, where any
failings of science and philosophy is more reason to believe that God exists within the things we
cannot explain. He hopes that as his students learn of this, they will believe that the paramount
objective of their education is to learn the nature of God, who is most important and constant being
in the universe. To summarize, Demea believes that humans will never fully understand the
universe; thus, the failure of science to provide explanations is the greatest proof of God and
greatest justification for faith.
Philo heckles the ideas of Demea while imposing his own ideas. As an empiricist and a skeptic, he
calls to let us become thoroughly sensible of the weakness, blindness, and narrow limits of human
reason. (131) Philo believes that because humans have been historically ignorant about science and
the universe, that humanity

What Is Literary Devices In The Ones Who Walk Away From...
Nothing in the world is perfect. In The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, LeGuin Ursula shows
how Omelas is a utopia, but their flaw is in the basement. LeGuin s persuades throughout the story
of Omelas that wherever there is light there is darkness. Within The Ones Who Walk Away From
Omelas, LeGuin uses multiple points of views and would sometimes ask the reader questions
midway through the story. Through the word choices and diction used, LeGuin makes the sentence
powerful. From the use of multiple strategies in the text, such as transitions, formal/informal
language, and word choice, LeGuin makes this story open for readers to let them think about what
it means to be happy.
LeGuin says Joyous! How is one to tell about joy? How to describe the citizens of Omelas? , this is
an uncommon way to phrase the sentence. By having an uncommon sentence structure, the reader

Polyatomic Molecules Research Paper
Pure substances can be broken into elements and compounds. Elements can be broken into atomic
or molecular and compound can be broken into molecular or ionic.
Elements can be classified as either atomic element or molecular element. Atomic elements exist in
nature as single atoms, where as, molecular Element do not normally exist as single atoms.
Molecular elements exists as molecules.
There re two types molecular molecules, diatomic or polyatomic. Most commonly molecular
elements exist as diatomic molecules meaning they consist of two atoms. An example of Diatomic
molecules would be hydrogen H2 or Oxegen O2. Secondly, polyatomic molecules consist of many
atoms, more than two. An example of a polyatomic molecule would be sulfur which exist as S8.
Polyatomic molecules are not common.
Content can be classified as either molecular for ionic. Molecular compounds are usually composed
of highly directional covalently bonded nonmetals. As discussed in 3.2 a covalent bond is a
chemical bond in which a non metal bonds with another nonmetal and it transfers it s electron to the

Diversity In Alaska
In my opinion, the best place to visit (between Florida and Alaska), would be Alaska. Alaska is
not only vast in terrain, but its wildlife is even more pulchritudinous than Florida. Also, there is
culture that I have not yet learned. New culture brings diversity. By including diversity within our
lives we are opening our minds to a brighter/happier life. Alaska has many places, the most
interesting are its national parks. These national parks are: Wrangell St. Elias National Park, and
Glacier Bay National Park.
First of all, Alaska is a place that has beauty under the ice... A vast land, with its majority of
carnivorous creatures from the size of a spec of dirt, to the largest creatures such as the Orca Whale,
which is also known as the Killer Whale . Wildlife is one of Alaska s many gifts. There are many

This park is not what the name implies. This National Park is home to a coastal rain forest and
colossal mountains which surround an enormous, and beautiful ocean bay. There are three or
more ways to get around this fascinating state... These transportations are: cruise ships, tour
vessels (with guides {National Park Service Naturalist}), and boats. The number one place to go
when at Glacier Bay National Park, is to see Margerie Glacier. (glacier grows up to ten feet daily)
In conclusion, I would visit Alaska and its National Park s. There are many, but also, its riveting
to go somewhere new. By going somewhere new, we as people are opening our hearts and minds
to diversity. Diversity may sound clichГ©, but it does have its traits. If I were to travel to Alaska
its national parks would be the first place(s) I would turn to (as a recreational activity/educational
activity). There are many places in the world, but only one of them is Alaska. Alaska has mystery,
grace, and enchantment. Between Florida and Alaska, Alaska is the place to

The Unknown Saga Men Of Icelandic Family Sagas
The unknown saga men of Icelandic Family Sagas who wrote in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries
utilized a plethora of writing techniques to portray the lives of native Icelanders from roughly 930
to 1030. Throughout this period, Family Sagas progressed from choppy, scattered life stories to
literary masterpieces laced with dark humor and adventure. However, sagas sometimes stray from
the truth due to the saga men s tendencies to romanticize the past, use interstitial expansion, and
edit manuscripts to fit Christian morals. Written in the 9th and 10th centuries (and put together in
the 13th century) The Book of Settlements is an important reference for all sagas about to be

The organization of Olaf s saga is loosely additive in the fact that none of the chapters seem to
lead to each other and chapters are often repeated. Such as chapters 37 and 55 where it is the
same story of king Olaf slapping a queen, but in one he does so because she wouldn t convert to
Christianity, and in the other he does so because he was caught giving her a false gold arm
band. This seemingly accidental repetition and misplacement of narratives could have happened
for a variety of reasons, but the most likely is that since Oddr wrote the saga as he interviewed
people, he would be forced to put narratives pertaining to earlier stories at the end of the
manuscript because there was no way for him to copy and paste and add it to the beginning.
Since all chapters after 25 were written from solely oral accounts, interstitial expansion plagues
the Saga to the point that it is hard to tell what actually happened and what is completely made
up, for example the scene where Olaf gets married in Winland probably never even happened.
Usually after demonic or paranormal activities are mentioned, Oddr interludes to write in his own
thoughts. An example of this happening is in chapter 43 when Odin appears to Olaf. Oddr feels it
necessary to comment his own thoughts due to the monostatic lens that he has, because he is after
all a monk writing in a monastery. When he writes about paranormal events he feels the need to let
his audience know that he doesn t believe

Don Valentine, one of Cisco s initial venture capitalist with a high tolerance for risk, needed more
talented personnel with a similar entrepreneurial spirit as himself. After several management
turnovers, John Chambers took over the position of CEO. Chambers initiated a strategy to excel
Cisco to its New World Network vision. Cisco became the lead provider of internetbased voice,

Assemble a broad product line which would position Cisco as a single point for business networks.
2. Systematize acquisitions to create efficiencies in the business process. 3. Set industry standards
for software networking 4. Find the best fitting strategic partners
Cisco proceeded to implement the plan and grow the IT department and infrastructure. Peter Solvic

Osteoporosis Is An Age Related Disease Of The Skeletal System
Introduction:
Osteoporosis is an age related disease of the skeletal system characterized by both low bone mass
and bone structural degeneration (Nunes, 2011). Understanding osteoporosis is important because
it is continues to be overlooked and undertreated, causing high numbers of bone fractures each year
in the elderly, these bone fractures can be debilitating or even life threatening (Eastell, 2009).
Osteoporosis manifests when an imbalance between bone resorption and bone rebuilding occurs
this is due to changes in osteoclast and osteoblast activity. I chose this topic because osteoporosis
affects millions of people, and research will allow me to better understand this common yet
complex, and very perilous bone disease.
Types:
There are two types of osteoporosis, primary and secondary. Primary osteoporosis is more
common and has no direct cause. It is usually more prevalent in women who are postmenopausal
where the rate of bone loss increases while the rate of bone regeneration decreases. Secondary
osteoporosis, unlike primary, has a direct cause, such as an illness like leukemia, cushings
syndrome, or type 1 diabetes. These diseases cause an increase in bone resorption, and weakening
of the bones.
Pathophysiology:
Bones are made up of two layers, the trabecular and cortical layers. The trabecular layer is internal
and spongy like, where the cortical layer is external and more compact. These layers are
continuously broken down and reformed by two cells known as

The Boom in Robotic Population
Introduction According to the report of International Federation of Robotics in 2008 the world s
robot population has reached 8.6 million. That is a little less than the population of New Jersey
(Guizzo, Erico). From this data it is clear that lots of people do not realize how much they are
surrounded by robots already at the present time. Additionally from year to year number of these
robots is growing as technology and science are developing faster than it seems. This essay will
discuss drawbacks and benefits of using robots in the future, by evaluating negative and positive
impacts of robotics. Research will begin by evaluating the economic factors of using robots. It
will then proceed to investigate the social factors and will analyze the judgments of society.
Main body Economic factors of using robots From the economic point of view using robots is
not advantageous. Firstly in the future some jobs will become extinct. According to Rob
Rawson, co founder of Staff.com, after serious crashes caused by a human operated air traffic
controller, in 2034 the government will mandate that all air traffic must be controlled by Artificial
Intelligence agents. Moreover in 2028 Google is going to produce perfect audio translator,
indistinguishable from the best bi linguists. It means that human translators and interpreters will
lose their working places. Similarly as self driving cars become main stream, there will be no need
for taxi drivers by 2038 (Rawson, Rob). To conclude with

Promiscuity
Promiscuity. What is your reaction to the word? We all know a promiscuous girl. We all look
down on her in our own ways. Sometimes she is backstabbed by friends and sometimes she is
openly scorned by others. What we do not realise, is she is not the only one, or maybe we do not
want to accept it. Research positions us at first place on the podium of promiscuity. Why are we
such a promiscuous nation? What risks are we bringing upon ourselves? Are we all nomads in
the land of sexuality? Perhaps it is our loose lifestyles, or when growing up we are faced with
confusion. A young New Zealander s lifestyle of drinking, partying, and in some cases, drugs is the

This may result in a decrease of promiscuity, as the new generations self esteems will be
healthier. For young people I believe the confusion they are faced with when growing up may
play a part. Maybe the transition into adulthood makes young people think they need to start
being sexually active. They may become desperate to feel belonging or companionship. These
feelings could be likened to those of Holden Caulfield the main character and protagonist of The
Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. Throughout the novel Holden is on a seesaw between being
a child and being an adult. One of the issues that surface for him is that of having sex. At one
point in the novel Holden is faced with the opportunity I kept hoping she d be good looking. I
didn t care too much, though. I sort of just wanted to get it over with. This shows Holden s
feelings towards sex. Under these circumstances sex has no signs of intimacy or fun. It is almost
as if sex is an opportunity for him to grow up . Maybe it is simply a rite of passage. It worries me
that this may be the reason for some young people being promiscuous. If they think becoming an
adult means they must do this they are obviously not mature enough yet and still need time to
grow up. The statistics produced by a condom maker labels New Zealand women as the most
promiscuous in the world with an average of 20.3 sexual partners. New Zealand men were not at
the top like the women but still above average with

Israel s Invasion Of Lebanon
Israel s 1982 invasion into Lebanon brought down the phase of Lebanon s political history, which
started with the 75 56 war. The civil war made a mark of trends that has been rising since 1958.
The civil war of 1975 96 had the Lebanese front against the Lebanese s national movement, which
were a reformist coalition and the Palestinian allies. The heart of the issue in this war was the
change in political circumstances in Lebanon. The political aspect and the economy were run by
French mandates. The government split each section s part of Lebanese seats and service
positions. A Maronite Christian would hold the presidency seat. A Sunni Muslim would hold the
premiership and a Shi a Muslim would hold the speakership. By diving the positions up to the
power families it gives deep roots to Lebanon s religious groups. The agreement to share the power
was formally called the National Pact in 1943. These transformations disputed the dynamics of
power between the older ruling families and undercut the authority of the state. An uprising in
Sunni Muslim social forces brought an increased labor movement and a deprived Shi a peasantry,
which stood up against the ruling families.
The Lebanese national movement constituted the new social forces. The goals of this group were
expressed in 1975 to diminish the political monopoly, to destroy the government sections, and to
change the Lebanese state into a democratic one. This program showed the desires of the non

An Inferential Analysis of Hemingway s Hills Like White...
In Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants I found many layers of symbolism, and a fascinating
psychological underplay afoot between his two characters. It begins with the girl s comment about
a line of white hills seen in the distance, which she compares to white elephants. The man responds
with the comment I ve never seen one.
The symbolism of a white elephant is widely known as something very large or apparent that no
one wishes to acknowledge or speak of in American society. It is an interesting opening to a very
strained conversation concerning an apparent pregnancy, and the man s wish to terminate it. The
couple s careful avoidance of actually naming the problem, or the proposed solution, suggests the
situation in which a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

it. He responds to this nervously, repeating that he doesn t want her to do it, it doesn t matter to

At that point, the waitress tells them the train is due in five minutes. The man escapes with the
bags, carrying them to the other tracks. This portion might suggest another symbolic element in
the story. Just as the two have switched their life course, they are now switching trains, heading
down a set of tracks carrying them towards a different outcome. He retreats to the bar inside,
where he has a drink alone while looking at the people waiting reasonably for the train , then
rejoins Jig, who smiles at him. And so the struggle between Jig and her lover is resolved. He has
won, and she has given up her dream. The elements of the story suggested a carefree couple that
traveled and drank their way across foreign landscapes together, with no responsibilities, until
suddenly, they faced one of the biggest responsibilities of all. Hemingway s depiction of their
conflict is in my opinion a stunning expose of a scenario that is all too common in the human

The Martian Chronicles By Ray Bradbury
August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains is a short story taken from the book The Martian
Chronicles written by Ray Bradbury in 1950. The setting of the story takes place in Allendale,
California in August of 2026, where a futuristic house is programmed to wake up the McClellan
family and make them breakfast and tend to their everyday needs and wants. The house goes
through a routine previously programmed for it along with any other spontaneous requirements
from the family. On one of the outside side panels of the house are the charred silhouettes of the
McClellan family. The house goes on with its routine even when the family is no longer present
until it is ultimately destroyed by a fire. The house in way follows the steps the humans did as they
both caused their own destruction. Ray Bradburyuses a reality of advanced technology, such as
nuclear weapons and what effects they possibly could have, as the main contributing factor in the
message he portrays in this short story. Bradbury incorporates personification, juxtaposition,
imagery, diction, and ironyto reinforce his message that humans crave for advanced technology and
this will ultimately be the reason behind their destruction. As there are no physical human
characters in this short story, Ray Bradbury uses personification to give the house a lively persona.

The true measure of a text s value lies in its ability to provoke the reader into awareness of its
language and construction, not just its content
The conceptual understanding of a good text revolves not only around its content, but also its
language and construction. This notion articulates profoundly within Margaret Atwoods novel A
Handmaid s Tale as it is, after all, the author s manipulation of the language and construction which
enacts as vehicles towards the reader s understanding of the content.
A Handmaid s Tale is a confrontational post modern work of feminist dystopian fiction; it depicts a
protagonist s struggle to adapt to a totalitarian and theocratic state where language has become
corrupted.

Therefore, The Handmaid s Tale is an example of a good text as it provokes the reader into
awareness of the construction of the novel as well as successfully putting forward the point the
author tries to make without making it appear too apparent.
The content, like the construction and language, is an essential device in which put forth the author
s intention of the novel, but in a more direct manner. The main themes held within the content of
The Handmaid s Tale comprise of not just the overall story itself, but also the character and the idea.
The narrator, Offred, is unquestionably the most noteworthy character in the novel where the
reader experiences the world of the Gilead through her eyes. However, the reader is not given an
in depth understanding of what Offred truly is like, as her only description of herself is being
thirty three years old , have brown hair and stand five seven without shoes . Through Offred s
vague description of herself, as well as by mentioning that she has trouble remembering what she
look like , suggests the idea of feminism in which Atwood tries to convey. This is evident through
Offred s depiction on the corruption of language and the non linear construction of her narrative
which evokes the restrictions placed on women, and thus, a perceptible clue which outlines the
author s concern to the rights and identity of women.
Hence, although the content of the novel is easier

Summary Of Activation Of Mtorc1
In the paper Activation of mTORC1 is essential for ОІ adrenergic stimulation of adipose browning
by Dianxin Liu et al, the authors sought to learn about the relationships between the opposing
hormone regulating systems of adipocytes, Insulin and catecholamines, and their effects on the
protein mTOR and its regulatory proteinRAPTOR. These interactions may lead to discoveries that
can ultimately help us enhance energy expenditure and combat metabolic disease. Adipose tissue
depots perform a wide range of functions in the human body and consists mainly of two
varieties, white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT). WAT stores extra caloric
energy in the form of triglycerides, while BAT in direct contrast, rapidly converts oxidative energy
into heat for survival in the cold. In addition, adipose depots also secrete proteins and other factors
that are a part of energy metabolismand glucose homeostasis.... Show more content on

The catecholamines consist of norepinephrine and epinephrine, and their role is activate B
adrenergic receptors (ОІARs) to increase cAMP levels and cAMP dependent protein kinase A

lipolysis (the hydrolysis of triglycerides) and the liberation of free fatty acids. Insulin is the opposing
metabolic regulator that antagonizes the action of catecholamines to stimulate lipolysis by
activating phosphodiesterases that degrade cAMP and by using the protein kinase AKT to activate
lipid synthesis pathways to promote energy

Environmental Factors In Poisonwood Bible And Lilac Girls...
During times of conflict, literature has often included the remorseful reactions of civilians. These
themes go forward to show the human s processes to handle grief during times that stress their
mental capability. Throughout a lifetime, many things are gained; experience, wisdom, knowledge,
as well as a sure sense of self. But along with all these great things come regret, guilt, and shame of
past events. Everyone deals with these in different ways, sometimes turning to religion and denial
as coping mechanisms. Each person reacts differently to guilt in response to their environmental
factors. In the literary works, Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolverand Lilac Girls by Martha
Hall Kelly, the authors use a multifaceted point of view to espouse how environmental factors
influence the individuality with how one copes with the burden of guilt. In Poisonwood Bible,
Orleanna is a prime example of how her time in the Congoinfluenced her handling of guilt.
Nathan Price is like a dictator to Orleanna and his daughters forcing them to live in the Congo
and fulfill his missionary work. Orleanna describes her marriage as: By then I was lodged in the
heart of darkness, so thoroughly bent to the shape of marriage I could hardly see any other way to

Formation Of The New Government Essay
Formation of the New Government
After the American Revolutionary War, the colonists needed a government so no one could take
away their power. There were several things the colonists needed to do to accomplish this task. Here
is how the United States Constitution overcame the weaknesses of The Articles of Confederation
and provided the organization a new government. They started by gaining a strong government,
providing power, and ended by giving the United States more abilities. Sense The Articles of
Confederation was the first government in the U.S. it made the central government weak. This was
when the Continental Congress made a plan for the nation. On the other hand, there was the
Constitutional Convention. This point in time was when representatives created The Great
Compromise and Three Fifths Compromise. In the Debate Over the Constitution you were either a
federalist or anti federalist which meant you either supported or opposed to the new constitution.

They overcame weaknesses, made the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 along with the Land
Ordinance of 1785. There was also the Constitutional Convention which was the gathering that
helped make the Three Fifths Compromise and the Great Compromise. Lastly, the Debate Over
the Constitution. This was when the government needed nine states to approve for the
Constitution to go into effect and the big argument between the federalists and antifederalists
due to the Constitution. All in all if this all was to never happen there could be a chance that we
are not here today. The United States would not be what makes us. But, because it happened we
all have individual freedom and are what we are. So, what and where will be in a few years? Will

Financial Analysis of the Healthcare Field
Introduction
In the ever changing dynamic of the healthcare industry, it is central to look at financial trends and
different types of financial analysis to capitalize on resources and minimize future impacts. With
any growing healthcare organization it is vital to be aware of one s internal and external
environment, the community it serves as well as the status of the economy. The purpose of this
paper is to determine the significance of certain types of financial analysis, particularly financial
ratios, the use of EBITDA and how they influence the healthcare field.
EBITDA, Financial Ratios and growing trends in healthcare EBITDA is an acronym which stands
for earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization and generally used to
determine how profitable a company can be (Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). The basic
understanding of the EBITDA is defined as the money the company has made without
considering expenses or taxes (Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). This can give a false sense of
how much the company is actually making or worth. In a hypothetical situation, a company creates
a product that costs the consumer $10, and 200 are made to meet the projected demand. With
EBITDA, it is assumed there is already a $2000 profit made even if the product is actually never
purchased. EBITDA does not calculate the manufacturing costs, taxes and employee salaries that go
into making a product. Although EBITDA does not seem to measure the actual value of a

Disadvantages Of Coffee Grinders
Grinding Coffee
The ground coffee is the most suitable coffee to buy. After all, it is accessible everywhere and
not difficult to load into the coffee maker. The ground coffee loses flavor faster than the whole
bean coffee. Also, the fresher your coffee, the more taste, and flavor it will add when it is brewed.
It is good to grind coffee before brewing to provide a more refreshing taste of coffee.
There are two common types of coffee grinders, both with its advantages and disadvantages. They
also have different varieties of grounded coffee ranging from finer grind to coarser grind.
The two types of Coffee Bean Grinders
There are two common types of coffee bean grinders used for personal purpose namely: Burr
grinder and Propeller grinder.
Burr Grinder
The burr grinder makes use of the two serrated discs to grind the beans. All you need to do is to
set up the variety of the grind properties you want (fine or coarse particles), fill up the beans
inside the chamber, and initiate the grinding process. The ground coffee ready to be brewed will be
collected inside the second chamber. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the first time I make use of a burr grinder the result was not too good because it takes a
longer time to grind. This can be the disadvantage, but presently I make use of the Cuisinart burr
grinder that grinds faster than my old propeller. The main advantage is that a burr grinder
produces a uniform grind. If you use a microscope to view the ground coffee from a burr grinder,
you will observe a homogeneous grind throughout. Consistency is very important to reflect on
when processing a good coffee. This makes a burr grinder an indispensable kitchen gadget that you
need to have at

In today s world most people have a credit card by the time they turn eighteen years old. Nerd

in the United States . (Bower) The average household credit card debt has probably increase since
the 2013 study. Overall U.S. National debtis rapidly approaching $18 trillion (Bower). 20% of
credit cardusers often pay off monthly balances on two or more credit cards according to a study
(Bower). In today s society it is normal to swipe a credit card to buy your children Christmas,
because credit card companies now offer rewards where an individual receives moneyback or
maybe even a discount flight. People used to not want to buy their children s Christmas on
credit, but rather work a little harder and save up the money to buy it. Children now days see
their parents buying them stuff on credit card, so when they become teenagers they expect to
receive everything they want even if their parents cannot afford it. When the child becomes a
teenager, and they are finally old enough to get a credit card they take advantage of the credit
card. Young adults should learn to spend their money wisely and efficiently at that age. Most
young adults my age have a credit card and take advantage of it. I have been eighteen now for a
year, and I have been attending college for six months now, and I still don t have a credit card.

that even those visually impaired can see when someone is cruel. Author Edward Bloor lived in
Trenton, New Jersey before attending Fordham University in New York, and now resides in

the sport. For example, War Eagles! War Eagles! We started moving our hands in unison, up and
down, changing the chant into the frenzied cry of War! War! War! This evidence shows how Paul
was just happily shouting along with his teammates, not focusing on anything or anybody else.

Locavore Movement Research Paper

right? Concealed under these factors lie environmental destruction as well as a damaged economy.
The Locavore Movement has been on the rise due to its nutritional benefits, however, this
overshadows the effects of locally grown foodon our environment and economy.
Many locavores say that locally grown produce contains more nutrients since they ve been
recently picked, unlike supermarkets where the produce has been left in the freezers for weeks.
In addition, they also claim that since it takes less distance to travel from farm to plate there is a
decreased chance of contamination (Source A). It s accurate to say that most produce grown from
local areas are healthier which is why the government plans to place more investments into farmers
markets(Source E). Although the Locavore Movement proves to have many beneficial aspects to
it, food is food. Locally grown food may be considered healthier with fewer chemicals, however, a

compared to the damage the farmers market casts on the environment. Many farmers will use
fertilizers to give nutrients to the plants so that it will maximize its growth, but do not consider the

Emergence And Divergence In Wales
There was a widespread public expectation that devolution would bring greater policy innovation
and divergence between Scotland, Wales and the UK state. This essay will assess the situation of
divergence and convergence in Wales with a specific focus on the period after the devolution
settlement. To fully answer the question the essay shall be divided into several sections. Firstly,
before attempting to answer the question it will illustrate what convergence and divergence are
and the distinct types of policy areas. It will then look at the choice and the reasons for use of the
case study in this essay which is the health policies of Wales. When answering the question this

Policy divergence is when a policy area moves away from the original norm and thus countries
policies develop substantial differences and are seen more predominantly in policy areas since
devolution. The most relevant work for this essay is the scholar Michael Keating who
categorises these policy divergences and convergences into five different areas. The first is
policy autonomy, this is when a policy differs due to the specific local needs and preferences. A
subset of this is policy competition, this fits in with policy learning which will be discussed
later. Policy competition is when a policy divergence exists because there is competition
between policies to show off the innovation of administration, typical with a reconvergence
around one idea at the end. Convergence, on the other hand, is when these policy differences
are minimal and policies are similar, the most famous example of this is seen in the European
Union in the last few decades. The first area of convergence is policy uniformity, this is when all
the administrations align due to an external pressure such as establishing the International
Criminal Court. The other key area of convergence is concurrent policy when a policy is similar
due to the similar internal conditions and needs. The last type of policy Keating specified was
the non comparable policies examples are the Welsh language, policy areas which don t exist in
other parts of the devolved state. This will be sparsely used as non comparable policies do not
typically exist within the UK health policy. The reason for the choice of health care policies as a
case study is due to the extensive interest in this topic. Health policy scholar Scott Greer attributes
this interest by scholars to the substantial autonomy and developing policy differences. Michael
Sullivan goes further, suggesting that there is no clearer differentiation

Holy Thursday by Blake Essay examples
Holy Thursday by Blake In Holy Thursday Blake expresses feelings towards the society around
him; England in the 18th Century, and the emotional, spiritual and moral poverty. He uses the word

adjective used to describe the countries material things. Fruitful could mean it is an agricultural and

The use of the words bleak and bare used to describe their fields could be a metaphor for their
lives. They see their future as having nothing in it, lifeless and empty. Blake says, their ways are
filled with thorns , he could mean that they cannot escape or that their future has worse things to
come. The word winter creates an image of cold and bleakness, and with the addition of eternal
makes it seem as if their lives have always been like this, and always will be. The significance of
sun and rain in the fourth verse could be that they both are not under man s control; they humble
us. Blake could be saying that if the world were not under man s control, and if the poor people
were free from oppression, poverty would not exist. Poverty is the result of man s own selfishness.
In The Chimney Sweeper and Holy Thursday there are many recurring symbols and themes
including the callous attitude of parents to children. In The Chimney Sweeper the children are
referred to as little black things . Little emphasises the isolation and vulnerability of the child. The
child is described as a black thing among the snow . The snow could represent innocence and
purity. The second line has an alliterative w sound with the word weep

A significant component of an employee’s well-being in...
A significant component of an employee s well being in today s world is the ability to maintain
a healthy balance between their profession and family life. As the prevalence of dual income
families has increased, so has the idea of maintaining the responsibilities at home, as well as,
ensuring one is productive at work. The attainment of work life balance continues to be a
prominent standard not only for employees in the workforce, but also for the organizations that
employ them (McMillan, Morris, Atchley, 2011). Work/life concerns are dominant across all
cultures and can involve individuals of every gender, occupation, income level, and age. Moreover,

However, in the absence of balance, most commonly known as work family conflict, research
shows it has been linked to higher turnover intention and sickness absence, in addition to, lower
productivity. A large percentage of an individual s time is spent at work which constitutes as a
significant aspect of their life. As a result, their well being can be greatly affected due to their
experiences at work and their experiences/behaviors at home. Once an employee recognizes an
imbalance between their work and personal life, they are more likely to experience higher levels
of stress and depression. Because work life balance is a broad topic area, it is vital for human
resource practitioner s to develop a conceptual understanding of its various constructs. With that,
they will be better equipped with the knowledge to develop appropriate interventions for both
employees and organizations. The work life interface is a dynamic and complex subject that
involves a number of different components. What s more, work family balance has been defined
inconsistently across research. Generally, most researchers view work family balance as the
absence of work family conflict. More specifically, work family balance has been defined as the

Machiavelli s Prince
Humanism is a term that is applied to beliefs, methods and philosophies that place human beings at
the center all life and the universe. Humanists observe that the goal of human life is happiness on
earth. Besides happiness, humanism is also grounded in naturalistic metaphysics (Lamont 13). It
considers all supernatural things and beliefs to be mythical, hence warranting dismissal. It is also
conceived of the idea that humanbeings are products of nature rather than supernatural creation. The
earthly experience is more important than any forms of predestination or determinism. According to
humanist, human beings have choice of action and have the capacity to shape their destiny. The
process of self definition also leads to critical inquiry... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Prince Machiavelli maps a political ideology that values citizen active participation in public
life as opposed to the idea of waiting for divine repudiation and salvation. The essence of virtue is
central to humanist thought and action. Machiavelli like all other humanists saw virtue in those
with power to rule. A virtuous ruling class had the capacity for more efficient and accountable
governance. He goes on to argue that an elite ruling class was not sufficient enough for political
stability. A stable political system needs power. He observed that a political system that had poor
organization led to its subjects bad behavior which in the end resulted in it getting attacked by
outside enemies. Machiavelli s project was to separate the political from the moral and he thought
this did not necessarily benefit the ruler but the general populace. His civic humanism is found in
his assertion that a prince should not resort to mistreating his subjects. When he is feared enough,
the state is strong and every citizen does their civic duty. In the process no one is hurt and the
prince retains his

Art Talk Concert Report
I attended an Art Talk platform event, led by an artist driven nonprofit organization called New

interpreter wasn t interpreting until the event officially started. So when the presenters were
walking around the front talking about when the event will start, she was not interpreting any of
that. She informed me, this is because those conversations were private and the event also had not

what was exactly being provided when Brenda was signing, because I was sitting directly behind
her. So, I was unable to see her hands. After the intern interpreted for about 10 or 15 minutes,
Brenda switched with him and she began to interpret. I noticed Brenda kept good eye contact
with the audience as a whole, while she was signing her eyes were not looking all over the place.
However, once the Deaf individual entered late, she completely focused her attention onto him,
which I think was a great thing to do. At one point during the presentation, the presenter was
speaking about transgender individuals and I noticed that Brenda used the old sign for
transgender (X hand shape on cheek, twisting motion). I have been told that some people may
take offense to that old sign now, and what is now acceptable is to sign the new sign (comes from
BEAUTIFUL, on the inside). When I asked her about this, she let me know that a lot of deaf

Ethics and Live Tissue Training
The Ethical Dilemma of Live Tissue Training in the Military Environment
By
Aaron Smith
22 September 2012
Thesis: Over the past 11 years to date, the United States has endured almost 8000 casualties from
two major conflicts (iCasualties.org, 2012). Although this number is staggering, we have also seen
soldiers surviving injuries that were previously fatal (Philpott, 2005). This increase in survivability
is largely due to the advancements in medical research and applied training. When it comes to
military trauma, our warrior medics should be equipped with the most realistic training attainable.
Although several simulation aids are used to provide this training, other methods such as live tissue
training are still employed. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a recent media source, PETA defended their stance, stating, they can drug an animal up, but they
are sentient creatures that still feel pain and fear by being treated as a disposable commodity
(Gordon, 2009). The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) agrees with PETA
stating, Because widely validated and accepted non animal alternatives for chemical casualty
management and combat trauma training courses exist, there is no justification for the use of live
animals for these training purposes (PCRM).
Stakeholder Analysis: There are several individuals and organizations affected by this ethical
dilemma. First and foremost are the casualties down range. Having highly trained personnel ready
to treat and manage wounds on the battlefield is paramount in the survivability of these injured
soldiers. Is the potential increase in fatalities on the battlefield justified by the elimination of live
tissue training for warrior medics? When it comes to this life versus life assessment, which way is
the most ethical choice?
Secondly, the medically trained personnel must be taken into consideration. Without the most
realistic training available, combat medics will not be as prepared to properly assess and treat
casualties. A Marine Corps Staff Sergeant is quoted in saying, I can honestly say that the military
training that I received did not prepare me nearly as well as the live tissue training. I had to

In The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, LeGuin Ursula shows how Omelas is a utopia, but their flaw is in the basement. LeGuin s persuades throughout the story of Omelas that wherever there is light there is darkness. Within The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, LeGuin uses multiple points of views and would sometimes ask the reader questions midway through the story. Through the word choices and diction used, LeGuin makes the sentence powerful. From the use of multiple strategies in the text, such as transitions, formal/informal language, and word choice, LeGuin makes this story open for readers to let them think about what it means to be happy. LeGuin says Joyous! How is one to tell about joy? How to describe the citizens of Omelas? , this is an uncommon way to phrase the sentence. The Unknown Saga Men Of Icelandic Family Sagas The unknown saga men of Icelandic Family Sagas who wrote in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries utilized a plethora of writing techniques to portray the lives of native Icelanders from roughly 930 to 1030. Throughout this period, Family Sagas progressed from choppy, scattered life stories to literary masterpieces laced with dark humor and adventure. However, sagas sometimes stray from the truth due to the saga men s tendencies to romanticize the past, use interstitial expansion, and edit manuscripts to fit Christian morals. The organization of Olaf s saga is loosely additive in the fact that none of the chapters seem to lead to each other and chapters are often repeated. Such as chapters 37 and 55 where it is the same story of king Olaf slapping a queen, but in one he does so because she wouldn t convert to Christianity, and in the other he does so because he was caught giving her a false gold arm band. This seemingly accidental repetition and misplacement of narratives could have happened for a variety of reasons, but the most likely is that since Oddr wrote the saga as he interviewed people, he would be forced to put narratives pertaining to earlier stories at the end of the manuscript because there was no way for him to copy and paste and add it to the beginning. Since all chapters after 25 were written from solely oral accounts, interstitial expansion plagues the Saga to the point that it is hard to tell what actually happened and what is completely made up, for example the scene where Olaf gets married in Winland probably never even happened. Usually after demonic or paranormal activities are mentioned, Oddr interludes to write in his own thoughts. An example of this happening is in chapter 43 when Odin appears to Olaf. Osteoporosis Is An Age Related Disease Of The Skeletal System Introduction: Osteoporosis is an age related disease of the skeletal system characterized by both low bone mass and bone structural degeneration (Nunes, 2011). Understanding osteoporosis is important because it is continues to be overlooked and undertreated, causing high numbers of bone fractures each year in the elderly, these bone fractures can be debilitating or even life threatening (Eastell, 2009). Osteoporosis manifests when an imbalance between bone resorption and bone rebuilding occurs this is due to changes in osteoclast and osteoblast activity. I chose this topic because osteoporosis affects millions of people, and research will allow me to better understand this common yet complex, and very perilous bone disease. Types: There are two types of osteoporosis, primary and secondary. Primary osteoporosis is more common and has no direct cause. It is usually more prevalent in women who are postmenopausal where the rate of bone loss increases while the rate of bone regeneration decreases. Secondary osteoporosis, unlike primary, has a direct cause, such as an illness like leukemia, cushings syndrome, or type 1 diabetes. These diseases cause an increase in bone resorption, and weakening of the bones. Pathophysiology: Bones are made up of two layers, the trabecular and cortical layers. For young people I believe the confusion they are faced with when growing up may play a part. Maybe the transition into adulthood makes young people think they need to start being sexually active. They may become desperate to feel belonging or companionship. These feelings could be likened to those of Holden Caulfield the main character and protagonist of The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. Throughout the novel Holden is on a seesaw between being a child and being an adult. One of the issues that surface for him is that of having sex. At one point in the novel Holden is faced with the opportunity I kept hoping she d be good looking. I didn t care too much, though. I sort of just wanted to get it over with. This shows Holden s feelings towards sex. Under these circumstances sex has no signs of intimacy or fun. It is almost as if sex is an opportunity for him to grow up . Maybe it is simply a rite of passage. It worries me that this may be the reason for some young people being promiscuous. If they think becoming an adult means they must do this they are obviously not mature enough yet and still need time to grow up. The civil war of 1975 96 had the Lebanese front against the Lebanese s national movement, which were a reformist coalition and the Palestinian allies. The heart of the issue in this war was the change in political circumstances in Lebanon. The political aspect and the economy were run by French mandates. It begins with the girl s comment about a line of white hills seen in the distance, which she compares to white elephants. The man responds with the comment I ve never seen one. The symbolism of a white elephant is widely known as something very large or apparent that no one wishes to acknowledge or speak of in American society. At that point, the waitress tells them the train is due in five minutes. The man escapes with the bags, carrying them to the other tracks. Therefore, The Handmaid s Tale is an example of a good text as it provokes the reader into awareness of the construction of the novel as well as successfully putting forward the point the author tries to make without making it appear too apparent. The content, like the construction and language, is an essential device in which put forth the author s intention of the novel, but in a more direct manner. The main themes held within the content of The Handmaid s Tale comprise of not just the overall story itself, but also the character and the idea. The narrator, Offred, is unquestionably the most noteworthy character in the novel where the reader experiences the world of the Gilead through her eyes. However, the reader is not given an in depth understanding of what Offred truly is like, as her only description of herself is being thirty three years old , have brown hair and stand five seven without shoes . Through Offred s vague description of herself, as well as by mentioning that she has trouble remembering what she look like , suggests the idea of feminism in which Atwood tries to convey. This is evident through Offred s depiction on the corruption of language and the non linear construction of her narrative which evokes the restrictions placed on women, and thus, a perceptible clue which outlines the author s concern to the rights and identity of women. These interactions may lead to discoveries that can ultimately help us enhance energy expenditure and combat metabolic disease. Adipose tissue depots perform a wide range of functions in the human body and consists mainly of two varieties, white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT). These themes go forward to show the human s processes to handle grief during times that stress their mental capability. Throughout a lifetime, many things are gained; experience, wisdom, knowledge, as well as a sure sense of self. But along with all these great things come regret, guilt, and shame of past events. Everyone deals with these in different ways, sometimes turning to religion and denial as coping mechanisms. Each person reacts differently to guilt in response to their environmental factors. In the literary works, Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolverand Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly, the authors use a multifaceted point of view to espouse how environmental factors influence the individuality with how one copes with the burden of guilt. The basic understanding of the EBITDA is defined as the money the company has made without considering expenses or taxes (Brockman, C., Russell, J., 2012). This can give a false sense of how much the company is actually making or worth. In a hypothetical situation, a company creates a product that costs the consumer $10, and 200 are made to meet the projected demand. Policy divergence is when a policy area moves away from the original norm and thus countries policies develop substantial differences and are seen more predominantly in policy areas since devolution. The most relevant work for this essay is the scholar Michael Keating who categorises these policy divergences and convergences into five different areas. The first is policy autonomy, this is when a policy differs due to the specific local needs and preferences. A subset of this is policy competition, this fits in with policy learning which will be discussed later. Policy competition is when a policy divergence exists because there is competition between policies to show off the innovation of administration, typical with a reconvergence around one idea at the end. Convergence, on the other hand, is when these policy differences are minimal and policies are similar, the most famous example of this is seen in the European Union in the last few decades. The first area of convergence is policy uniformity, this is when all the administrations align due to an external pressure such as establishing the International Criminal Court. The other key area of convergence is concurrent policy when a policy is similar due to the similar internal conditions and needs. The last type of policy Keating specified was the non comparable policies examples are the Welsh language, policy areas which don t exist in other parts of the devolved state. This will be sparsely used as non comparable policies do not typically exist within the UK health policy. The reason for the choice of health care policies as a case study is due to the extensive interest in this topic. However, once the Deaf individual entered late, she completely focused her attention onto him, which I think was a great thing to do. At one point during the presentation, the presenter was speaking about transgender individuals and I noticed that Brenda used the old sign for transgender (X hand shape on cheek, twisting motion). I have been told that some people may take offense to that old sign now, and what is now acceptable is to sign the new sign (comes from BEAUTIFUL, on the inside). When I asked her about this, she let me know that a lot of deaf people still sign the old ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Ethics and Live Tissue Training The Ethical Dilemma of Live Tissue Training in the Military Environment By Aaron Smith 22 September 2012 Thesis: Over the past 11 years to date, the United States has endured almost 8000 casualties from two major conflicts (iCasualties.org, 2012). Although this number is staggering, we have also seen soldiers surviving injuries that were previously fatal (Philpott, 2005). This increase in survivability is largely due to the advancements in medical research and applied training. When it comes to military trauma, our warrior medics should be equipped with the most realistic training attainable. Although several simulation aids are used to provide this training, other methods such as live tissue training are still employed. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a recent media source, PETA defended their stance, stating, they can drug an animal up, but they are sentient creatures that still feel pain and fear by being treated as a disposable commodity (Gordon, 2009). The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) agrees with PETA stating, Because widely validated and accepted non animal alternatives for chemical casualty management and combat trauma training courses exist, there is no justification for the use of live animals for these training purposes (PCRM). Stakeholder Analysis: There are several individuals and organizations affected by this ethical dilemma. First and foremost are the casualties down range. Having highly trained personnel ready to treat and manage wounds on the battlefield is paramount in the survivability of these injured soldiers. Is the potential increase in fatalities on the battlefield justified by the elimination of live tissue training for warrior medics? When it comes to this life versus life assessment, which way is the most ethical choice? Secondly, the medically trained personnel must be taken into consideration. Without the most realistic training available, combat medics will not be as prepared to properly assess and treat casualties. A Marine Corps Staff Sergeant is quoted in saying, I can honestly say that the military training that I received did not prepare me nearly as well as the live tissue training. I had to ...
