2. The Dark Ages Of Europe
The Dark Ages of Europe is one of the most known horrible times recorded in
human history. When Rome finally crumbled it was a devastating time, it lead to
the worst time period that Europe has ever seen; full of disease and poverty. It
started in 410 A.D and ended in 1200 A.D. During this time people would rather die
a horrible death than to actually live through this time. Terrifying Vikings tore
through the continent along with cruel Knights. Barbarians ravaged through what
was first the amazing Rome and shoved it on its knees. People lived in huts and
worst of all, the worst enemy of them all was the pandemic The Black Death. We ll
tour you through what s it was like during ..... The Dark Ages.
At the beginning of this time period, before the decline, Rome was the mother of
the world. It is the largest recorded empire ever known and was one of the wonders
of the world. It was the center of trade and was the protector of Europe. The fall of
this miraculous empire was the very beginning of the dark ages. Without Rome s
protection, that meant that western Europe was defenseless against others. Eastern
Europe still had rulers Justinian and Theodora, but they weren t much help to the
beginning of the fall of Europe. Without Rome s trade, they didn t have any money
or supplies. The fall of Rome s main center lead to the beginning of the Dark Ages.
During the Dark Ages, the people of Europe became more savage and greedy then
they were before, with stealing, killing, and whole

Analysis of the Mona Lisa

I have always been intrigued with the Mona Lisa, I don t know why but there is
something about her smile and her eyes that captivates me. The realness of the
painting and how ordinary the Mona Lisa is the reason why I can look at this
painting with great joy, it doesn t make me think too much, it doesn t confuse me, the
simplicity and the normalcy of this painting is what I enjoy so much. However, after
an analysis you can see that the painting isn t so ordinary.
The Leonardo de Vinci used oils to paint his picture. During the 15th century using
oils was very common. By using oils Leonardo was able to create a real lifelike
painting. Since the oils dry slowly he was probably able ... Show more content on

You can see that the painting seems to be made up of three triangles. Mona Lisa
being the biggest then the left top corner is the background and the top right
corner, a continuation of the background. From what we ve read he designed this
painting in an upright triangular composition. However, these two backgrounds
seem to not be part of the same landscape. The left top corner seems more shaded,
and darker. Also the winding road I feel might symbolize troublesomeness, or
decisions. Where as, the right top side of the background is a little lighter in color
and the path seems clear and straight. By positioning the Mona Lisa the way
Leonardo did creates balance within the painting. He also did a wonderful job on the
symmetry of her face and of the painting, between the objects in the painting and the
color used its self.
You can see that when viewing a painting like this there are many questions that
arise in your mind. Looking at the Mona Lisa I get drawn in and a sense of
wonderment comes over me. I start to imagine the person in the painting and what
her smile was really about. A strong, confident women is what I think she was, and
that was brought out beautifully by de Vinci. I also think that the way he painted the
Mona Lisa shows a lot about what and how Leonardo viewed women. Many say that
it was painted for the love of his mother. What do you

7. Essay about Analysis of Glory
Analysis of Glory
Glory is a movie about the fifty fourth Massachusetts regiment in the civil war. This
was the first all black regiment the Union ever allowed to fight. Throughout the
movie one quote kept proving itself true, We went down standing up. The members
of the fifty fourth proved that they wanted to go down standing up just by joining the
army. However there were many situations that proved this further, as the film
continued. During the regiment s training period a message arrived at the camp.
This message was a warning that all blacks found by confederates would be put to
death, as well as their commanding officers. As a result of this warning Colonel Shaw

The regiment would be vastly outnumbered in such a battle. Despite the unfortunate
odds, the soldiers seemed honored to be the first into the fort. Death was extremely
probable for these soldiers, but they wanted to be remembered as brave men that
went down standing up. These men willingly walked into almost certain death.
This proves how strongly they believed in their cause. One of the main characters
was Colonel Shaw. In the beginning of the film, Shaw played dead to escape
death. In this part of the movie he was a coward. During the course of the movie
Shaw grew a great deal. In the end he seemed to realize he was an equal with his
men. Colonel Shaw was killed and buried with his men, which seemed to be a
symbol of equality. The Union soldiers were not the only ones to demonstrate a
willingness to take a stand, the Southerners also demonstrated a great willingness to
go down fighting. The Confederates had beliefs that were opposing to that of the
north, but the beliefs were just as strong. The South was taking quite a chance by
fighting the civil war, given the fact that they had far less men than the North. The
mere fact that the Southerners were willing to die for what they honestly believed
were their rights, proves that they wanted to go down standing up. What the blacks
did was a bit more remarkable than what the Southerners did, though. The people of
the Union may not have respected the Southerners, but they were at least
8. Helas By Oscar Wilde Essay
The human brain is capable of savoring many fascinations in a lifetime. Despite that
it may further exploit an interest, it can be easily converted into an obsession and
quiet frequently, distort one s reality. Helas! by Oscar Wilde is a poem that measures
the narrator s indulgence in many passions, while being struck with uncertainty, and
as a consequence, questioning the life he picked. For this reason, he stands irresolute
in pursuit of the paths he has chosen in life, because sudden, confusing thoughts have
interfered with his ambitions. This will be made evident after examining the impact
of society towards his sanity, the poem from a romantic aspect, as well as exploring
his internal reflections. To begin, society is known for preserving... Show more

Compared to the dissipation he used to have versus the lifestyle he has now, it
forces him to re evaluate the paths he has chosen. He now compares the importance
of ancient wisdom and austere control with decadence, contemplating that these
benefits stood superior to what he currently possess. Furthermore, judging by the
tone of the first quatrain, he seems nearly irritated that he s given up these
strengths for the way he lives now. This illustrates that his passion for self
indulgences has eliminated a plethora of possibilities to him, that will sooner or
later remain inaccessible. Unfortunately, the poet is now beginning to see the
repercussions of choosing decadence. Despite the abundance of this yearned way
of living, he nearly gets the last taste of it, as he explains in the last couplet: with a
little rod, I did but touch the honey of romance, and must I loose a soul s
inheritance? (Wilde, lines 12 14). This excerpt explains that while he faintly
touched decadence, he would be reminded of all the assets he acquired because of
this specific way of life. It leaves Wilde in a psychological crossroad, for his own
mind is unable to deduct right from wrong; he craves the decadent lifestyle, but is
aware of the consequences that will

Book Report: Silent Spring
On December 2, 1970, under an executive order issued by President Richard Nixon,
the Environmental Protection Agency opened its doors as the eminent administering
organization of federal environmental policy in the United States. It was the result of
nearly a decade of grassroots activism and a new American conscientiousness about
environmental issues. The impetus for much of this activism can be identified in a
book published by Rachel Carson. Her book, Silent Spring, published in 1962,
awakened a large number of Americans to the dangers of chemicals specifically
pesticides. A graduate of Pennsylvania College for Women, Carson was a student of

Carson emphasizes in subsequent chapters that because of the convenience that
pesticides, we have failed to acknowledge the danger that they pose. We have failed
to exercise proper scruples in our efforts to make production easier and more
convenient. In other words, we have failed to exercise caution. It is worth
mentioning that the title of chapter one is A Fable for Tomorrow. A fable is
inherently a cautionary tale with a lesson to be learned. The moral of this fable is
that a lack of caution could lead to the destruction of our society and life as we know
it.
The environmental message of the book is that the unscrupulous proliferation of
pesticides and hazardous chemicals is a threat to our natural environment and to
human existence itself. Chapter by chapter, Carson clearly articulates this argument,
explaining the dangers of expanding chemical use. Her message can be divided into
several sections. First, she explains the problem of chemical pesticides and discusses
the impacts of pesticides on environmental factors. Second she addresses their impact
on living organisms (i.e. plants and animals). Third, she explores the human health
impacts of pesticides. Finally, she contends that pesticides actually have the opposite
of their desired effect and proposes an alternative to the toxic chemicals.

The Town is a 2010 crime film based in Charlestown. Featuring Doug MacRay and
James Coughlin, the film involves three major robberies in three different locations
within Charlestown. A team of highly skilled robbers is involved in high level
crimes including robbing a bank, hitting a money transfer lorry, and finally attacking
a cash house where two are gunned down. The true subject and the theme of the town
is both a crime based and a thriller film. The most outstanding elements that
contribute to the above subject line include the overall scene, the characters most of
who are former offenders, and the overall plots and visuals all that help in bringing
out the nature of crimes in the town. For instance, in the very first scenes, the film
shows James Coughlin and Doug MacRay squandering as technicians before they

a cash transfer lorry. Another editing technique is the L Cut and the J Cut. The L cut
is used to enhance a smooth transition from one scene to the other, including the
scene where the lead characters adorn in police attire after they are corned inside a

12. Analysis Of The Poem Bridget Sproul
Society has defined our conception of success and self worth for the longest time.
We have effectively turned into animals, valued solely for our instrumental value.
Today in society, those who do what they love are not valued. Instead those who
make the most money (society s definition of success) are valued. We are no better
that simple honeybees, only living to serve the hive of society and die away from it
when we are no longer efficient and profitable. Through the constant switching of
tone as the poem progresses, the extended metaphor of a scout, and the in your face
irony in the pretense of the poem, Bridget Sprouls in SCOUT depicts the inherent
lies and fallacies of social constructs by showing how finding purposein life is not

In earlier times, scouts were used to survey the positions of enemies or to survey and
chart the frontier. In the end, scouts were used to learn about thing not known before,
to go places not gone before, and most importantly, to pass on this garnered
knowledge to others. In the poem, the speaker is a scout, but not in the common
sense. The speaker is a scout for the underbelly if society, a scout for those who are
shunned by society the prostitutes, the thieves, the voiceless and the homeless.
Having experienced and performed all the vices of society, she has in fact scouted
and explored the side of society that society tries to hide. She has sold her body for
sustenance: bartering my eyelashes (10) and stolen from those who have much to
sustain herself: Thank you, bad shot farmers, for all the pecans (11). She has also
faced the sad reality of being invisible to the well to do. Her cries have gone
unheard to the point where she would wake to a sweet melody grinding / like an
ice cream summons (13 14). In search for companionship and the want to share her
story with another person, she recognizes grinding (13) as a sweet melody (13).
The juxtaposition of these two opposite words shows the extent to which she has
been ignored. She equates the rustic, and unpleasant sound of grinding (13) to that
produced by an ice cream summons (14). The music of an ice cream truck causes
all of us to have hope, the hope of an ice cream bar or cone, the hope that we can all
be happy. The speaker, after being dragged down to the streetsinstead if succeeding,
reaches out to any sound for hope as it is fleeting in her situation. This idea that she
latches onto the even most obscure sign of hope is demonstrated through her trying
to answer the phone in a forest (15). She is surrounded by the forest (15) or the
concrete jungle that is the city of

Imagine staying in the same room for three months with only an ugly wallpaper for
mental stimulation. That situation would be enough to drive anyone crazy. In The
Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, that is exactly what happens to the
unfortunate narrator of the story. In the story, the narrator is a young woman
suffering from postpartum depression. Her husband, a physician named John, decides
that some time in the country will help her heal and rents a house for three months.

When this story was written, society had a very strict role for women to follow and
it was considered very improper for any woman to try to be different. The narrator
s descriptions of the figures she sees in the wallpaper mirror this idea of society.
The narrator sometimes believes there are a great many women behind (par. 186)
the wallpaper. This leads the reader to believe the wallpaper symbolizes more than
just the narrator, but women in general. The narrator then sees the woman behind
the wallpaper all the time trying to climb through (par. 188) and escape the
confines of the wallpaper, which symbolizes society. When the woman tries to
escape the confines of society, the pattern strangles them off and turns them upside
down (par. 189). Society shuns any woman who tries to step away from the
specified role given to her. The narrator notes that it becomes so bad that nobody
could climb through that pattern it strangles so (par 188). Women are frightened
away from nonconformity by the threat of the backlash from society. One more
comment is made from the narrator about how women hide their differences
because most women do not creep by daylight (par. 194). By not being openly
different, the illusion of conformity is given and society is pleased. All these
different images presented by the wallpaper and the narrator symbolize society s
control over women and how it affects

There are five main reasons why Reagan is admired by large segments of the
American public. Firstly, he is considered to have been a staunch patriot and a
charismatic leader (Spinrad, 1991). These qualities were needed in a president at the
time due to the influence of the Soviet Union and the threat of communism. It was
also important due to Americans being demoralised from the failure in Vietnam.
Secondly, the six months leading up to the end of his second term were characterised
by increased cooperation with the Soviet Union s Mikhail Gorbachev to reform the
union. It eventually resulted in the total collapse of the Soviet Union and Reagan is
credited for assisting in the eradication of the communist threat. The third, and more
controversial reason for Reagan s popularity, is the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project
funded by conservative Americans (Norquist, n.d.). The project aims to instil the
legacy of Reagan by lobbying to name buildings, roads, and landmarks after the
president. This boosts the image and prestige of the president in the eyes of the
people, especially for people who did not live during his presidency or do not know
much about him.
The fourth reason for Reagan s popularity is that he is perceived to have drastically
improved the US economy and lives of Americans. One of the ways to understand
this is by comparing the shape of the US economy when he took office to its shape
when he left. The US

The Scopes Trial, formally known as The State of Tennessee vs. Scopes but given
the nickname The Monkey Trial , has been credited as starting the popular legal
dispute between evolution and creationism in the court, and its impact in the 20 s
was immeasurable. The interpretation of the case is just as popular, if not more,
than the actual result of the case. The worldwide attention and media coverage the
case received produced many opinions. Scholar s opinions range from describing
the case as an irrelevancy and a good show to describing it as a Watershed in
American religious history (Ronald L. Numbers, 1998, p. 76). A large factor in why
the Scopes trial has received so much attention in an insignificant town is because of

Even though many southern states frowned upon teaching evolution because of
Creationism being highly influential, Tennessee took the matter up a notch when
they were the first state to make the teaching of Evolution a punishable crime.
Evolution was like an evil spirit in Tennessee, no one wanted to be associated with it,
have it taught in public schools, and especially never be compared to a monkey. This
strong opposition against Evolution makes Tennessee an interesting battleground for
Creationism and Evolution. The first step of the battle was for the Butler Act to find
its opponent. What ended up happening was something that was unknown to the
public; Leaders from Dayton, a small town in Tennessee, were conspiring to violate
the Butler Act. Civil leaders of Dayton saw an opportunity to benefit the town by
increasing its visibility through publicity (Singham, 2009, p. 23). The idea was first
considered in Dayton by George Rappleyea, a businessman who owned multiple
mines around Dayton. Rappleyea, along with a few connections in the county school
council and city prosecutors, were looking for someone to charge with violating the
Butler Act (Singham, 2009).
They soon found their candidate, John T. Scopes. Scopes was a substitute biology
teacher who was somehow intertwined with Rappleyea s plans. Scopes agreed to be
accused of violating the law mainly because he did not have much to lose career
wise, and was not a permanent resident of
19. Characteristics Of A Tuna Sandwich
A tuna sandwich is full of important macronutrients needed for your body.
Carbohydrates, proteins and lipids can be found in all of the ingredients in varying
amounts. Grain from the bread provides carbohydrates, while proteins can be found
in the tuna, lettuce, tomato and cheese of the sandwich. Lipids are represented in the
cheese and mayo. All food groups are represented in the sandwich, with the exception
of fruits. The function of digestionis to break down and transport nutrients from the
food to their respected destination within the body as they are added through the
lymphatic system and the blood stream. Major organs involved in digestion are the
mouth, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine and the rectum. The salivary
glands, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder are assisting organs in the digestion process.
Ingestion starts the digestion process starts in the mouth. As you begin to take a
bite of the tuna sandwich, the smell triggers the salivary glands to start producing
saliva. The saliva in the mouth from the salivary glands contains the enzymes
amylase, which starts the digestion of carbohydrates and starches. Saliva also
releases lingual lipase which begins the digestion of fats or lipids. As the food is
chewed and mixed with saliva, the food turns into bolus. This new form of the once
sandwich will help it travel through the GI Tract to be further digested.
After the saliva from the salivary glands has prepared bolus by moistening and
suppling
20. Survival In Auschwitz Research Paper
Arguably the Holocaust affected many innocent people who had no explainable
reasons for why a devastating succession had pointed them out. Germans had no
consideration of how much suffering was occurring they were basically beasts with
no lack of remorse. Survival In Auschwitz, a memoir by Primo Levi, who has also
personally lived the tremendous revolution of the attack towards Jewish people, he
writes about the disasters occurring during this occasion, the way dehumanization
had taken people s identity, and a plan to cope with the situation. A disastrous
journey took place around 1943. A vast of Jewish people were captured by the
Germans and with absolutely no knowledge they were being taken to a place of no
hope. Behind
21. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt Essay
Franklin Delano Roosevelt is generally regarded as one of the United States most
effective Presidents. Whether the accolades are entirely justified or Roosevelt s
effectiveness was simply a product of the time period in which he served as
President will always be debated. However, one thing that no one can deny is that
Roosevelttook an atypical route on his way to becoming President. Whether he was
fighting an illness or coping with the death of a loved one, Roosevelt always
managed to keep himself on track and to persist towards his goals and those of the
country. People remember FDR for his actions during the Great Depression and
World War II, but those actions were preceded by and intertwined with a tough, yet...

Eventually, they returned to the United States where Franklin received additional
personal tutoring. For the most part, Arthur Dumper was his main tutor. (Conkin
36) Clearly, Roosevelt s life did not start out in typical fashion. While most children
went to school to receive an education, FDR learned from a wide variety of tutors
coming from very diverse nationalities and backgrounds. This diversity may have
been part of the reason that Roosevelt was so successful later in life when he became
President.
Once he completed his years of tutoring, Roosevelt entered Groton school, where he
studied under headmaster, Endicott Peabody. While at Groton, he made his first ever
political speech on the topic of the Nicaragua Canal Bill. (Ginna 33) On January 17,
1898, Warren Delano II, Franklin s grandfather, passed away (Eisenhower 44). True
to form, Roosevelt pushed forward only two days later by delivering an address
during a debate at Groton. In April, Scarlet fever struck Roosevelt badly, forcing
him to leave Groton. Intent on finishing his education at the school, he returned to
Groton, as soon as he was physically able, for his final year. Finally, on June 25,
1900, Roosevelt graduated from Groton and was awarded the Latin prize.
(Eisenhower 45)
In September of 1900, Franklin Roosevelt entered Harvard University and tried out
for the football and crew teams. He did not make either team, but

Defining customers as those people and organizations for whom R R creates value,
R R serves the following customers: 1. TV Guide; 2. American board game players,
i.e. adults and children; 3. Retail outlets, which can be classified as mass
merchandisers and department/gift stores; 4. The game developer, i.e. a professional
inventor ; 5. TV guide employees who develop the questions; 6. Sam Kaplan; 7. Sales

getting the job done (pays on time), price (low cost) and brand (TV Guide) value.
Measuring the success of Bob Reiss by his income statement (appendix A); reveals
that he owns 50% of Trivia Inc., i.e. $1,157,250. Adding 13% commission to this,
shows that Mr. Reiss earned $2,099,750. Reasons of Mr. Reiss success are: a price
lower than Trivial Pursuit, free media publicity and low production costs. How does
this work? Setting a price lower than competition will attract customers, free media
publicity will create free product awareness and low production cost allows for
higher margins. Drawing from McGrath and MacMillan (1995) who argue that
business planning involves envisioning the unknown, Mr. Reiss envisioned that
Trivia Games would become popular in the U.S. Furthermore, Mr. Reiss
incorporated new data into the venture as it became apparent. For example, initially
he did not want to include a board, but decided to do so after he learned a higher
price could be charged. Also after learning that the best way for financing his
operations was his friend he decided to so. (rather than
23. Influencing Patients
It is noted with regard to doctors that the basic means of influencing the acceptance of
CAM and informing patients is their personal passion for medicine and their passion
to find the appropriate solutions for the treatment of their patients. The next means of
informing them was their family and their wider environment, ie people who trust
them. According to Adams et al (2012), this conclusion of the practical part is
confirmed, in particular they stated in their study that the basic criteria for
influencing doctors are mainly personal study and participation in informative
seminars, while an important means of information is the broader cycle (Akilen et
al., 2014; Andrikopoulos et al., 2015), the relevant environment as an important factor.

it is based more on: 1) personal experiences, 2) repetitive recommendations to test a
particular treatment, and 3) continuous or repeated support that may be presented for
this treatment: I heard for this (alternative) treatment, then I happen to read books
about it ... I was constantly encountering things that reminded me of this treatment,
all of which worked as signs that I should investigate
24. Call Of The Wild Identity Essay
Identity is something that is very important to who we are and how we interact with
others. Much of this is influenced by our surroundings and the conditions that we are
presented with. Buck in The Call of the Wild begins his transformation into a beast
when he is thrown into the grim terrain of the north. Along with this, the American
people during the Frontierwere shaped by the open land in the west that they were
forced to adapt to. In the Call of the Wild and Turner s Frontier Thesis, both Buck and
the American people s identity were shaped because of the surrounding geography.
Initially in the story, Buck had it easy. He was born a domesticated St. Bernard

This transition completely transformed the life of Buck forever. While being
transported from place to place, his pride suffered an utter blow. He was no longer
in this domain where he could freely live. Instead, he was constantly conformed,
handled, and controlled by the power of others. One major strike at Buck s pride
occurred when he was beaten by the man with the club. After he is hit, it is clear
that, the club was a revelation. It was his introduction to the reign of primitive law,
and he met the introduction halfway (London 6). This shows that as Buck moves
further and further from home, he begins to stray away from his previous way of
life. His domestic nature fades away and the inner beast inside of him is revealed.
As Buck enters an unfamiliar world as a wild sled dog, he undergoes many
physical changes. The grim geography of the rigid north had many adverse effects
on Buck s once pristine build. One example of Buck suffering physically is when
he experiences extreme pain in his feet caused by the rugged terrain of the journey
north. Buck s feet were not so compact and hard as the feet of the huskies. His had
softened during the many generations since the day his last wild ancestor was
tamed by a cave dweller or river man (London 18). This shows that as Buck treks
across the ice and snow with the rest of the pack, his feet become weathered and
wounded. His feet are not as tough as the other dogs due to his upbringing and his
ancestral history. Along
25. Importance Of Purification Of Water Essay
Purification of Water to Save Humanity Thought water is the other name of life,
more than billion people around the world cannot drink clean water. Some of them
used to walk for milieus just to fetch water for themselves and their families. In
some places where the supply of water is enough, it is found most of the time the
water is polluted with virus and bacteria which can form deadly diseases. Not only in
the undeveloped countries but also in developing countries water sources are polluted
sometimes. And there s another group that lacks access to abundant, safe, clean
drinking water: astronauts. As astronauts have to take things what they need and
they have to reuse and recycle every dewdrop of water. On the International Space
Station, where U.S. Astronaut Scott Kelly recently spent a year in orbit,
specialized technology developed by NASA collects every bit of moisture,
including sweat and urine, and turns it into drinkable water Filtration is the only
solution. As all filters are not equal depending on the expenditure some of them
can only drain out dirt and low level bacteria which are harmful mostly for young
children s as the water used to carry a dangerous virus. Luckily the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) scientists come forward with their
best water filtering technology. In 2000, Florida based Argon ide was working
with nanomaterials and discovered its Nanoceramic fibers had properties that made
them excellent as water filters. The main benefit to the nanofibers was their
unusually strong bio adhesively meaning particles, including viruses and bacteria,
were easily attracted to the fibers. When water passed through a filter woven of the
fibers, these particles flocked to the fibers and got stuck there, leaving virus and
bacteria free water on the other side. NASA rewarded the company. The
Nanoceramic fibers produce an electropositive charge when water flows through
them. Many impurities carry a slight negative charge and are absorbed by the filter,
explained Tom Smokoff, founder of Water Pure Technologies. Some filters were
designed by using membranes with small pores so
26. The Pros And Cons Of Depression
We exist in a time where most of what was considered taboo is now being accepted
as a variance in lifestyle, practice, or behavior. People are being judged less for
who or what they are and the trend of openness and tolerance is setting in. Although
we have made strong efforts as a society to be understanding and loving to all, some
in our world still hold traditional and archaic views on certain issues. In some parts
of the world the illnessof depressionstill holds no value or merit. Depression (major

Untreated depression increases the chance of risky behaviors such as drug or

At his inauguration, Kennedy said, quot;Ask not what your country can do for you
ask what you can do for your country, quot; perhaps the most famous single quote
from an inaugural address. Among many notables in his cabinet, JFK appointed his
brother Bobby as Attorney General.
From Eisenhower, Kennedy inherited the quot;Cold War quot; with the Soviet
Union. In 1962, when American spy planes discovered Soviet nuclear missiles in
Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S., many thought the nation was at the brink of war.
Kennedy imposed a blockade of Cuba but promised not to invade, and the Soviet
Union dismantled the missile bases, resolving the confrontation. (Upon seeing
photos of the dismantling, Adlai Stevenson, now Kennedy s Ambassador to the
U.N, famously said, quot;We are eyeball to eyeball with the enemy, and I think the
other fellow just blinked. quot;) Kennedy also promised to send Americans to the
moon and bring them back safely before the end of the decade, and although he did
not live to see it, his promise came true. He called his program to make things better
for Americans quot;the New Frontier quot; and he started the Peace Corps.
When the Kennedy family lived in the White House, a managerie of animals
abounded on the premises, and Mrs. Kennedy erected a play yard for them under the
trees near the President s West Wing office. They had rabbits, lambs, ponies and
guinea pigs. A Welsh Terrier named Charlie was

The mousetrap car, Versace, was tested multiple times to test how far it went.
When constructing the car, the group members had different ideas, but all ideas
were put into the construction of the car. The car was tested with CDs as wheels
and then paper plates as wheels. Each time, when testing the car, the axle gearing
had different measurements and distances. The group had finally gotten the best
distance on the car. The group was also able to find the kinetic energy of the boat.
Then the data from the tests were used to find the efficiency of the car. Overall, the
car did very well. When constructing the mousetrap car, each team member had
different ideas. The group considered each idea and included it into the construction
of the car. Some team members wanted to test friction, by switching the wheels of
the car. The group would test CD wheels and paper plate wheels. The group also
wanted to test the axle gearing. The group wanted to test this to see if the speed

revolutions in 1.87 seconds, for the work out. And converted this to radians per

30. Sexual Delinquency And Sexual Offenders
Introduction Much of the literature review on sexual offending states that conduct
disorder is a phenomenon that is too associated with adult offenses. However, no
study has been given if adolescent sexual offenders are more likely to have a
childhood diagnosis of conduct disorder than adult sexual offenders (Morrell Burton,
2014, p.39). Sexual offences in adolescents does not necessarily continue at 20 years
of age (Dudeck, Spitzer, Stopsack, Freyberger Barnow, 2007, p.494).
In order to investigate this phenomenon and address the gap in adolescent sexual
offenders having a higher possibility of conduct disorder, the following research
study is proposed. The study focuses on the research question: if adolescent sex
offenders are more likely to have childhood diagnosis of conduct disorder than that
of adult sexual offenders. It is a hypothesis that adolescent sexual offenders have a
much lower chance of re offending if they are not into more types of crimes
(Davidson, 2015, p.555). It is also a hypothesis that adolescent sex offenders may
have a higher possibility of a childhood diagnosis of a conduct disorder (Morrell
Burton, 2014, p.39).
Case study is under the type of research design selected. The study sample will be
large and comprise of both male and female participants. Selection of subjects will be
methodically conducted by use of purposeful random sampling and convenience
sampling. Interviews will be undertaken to measure the influence of conduct disorder

Canada to solidify Canada`s reputation among the world (Bibliography par. 1).
Moreover, he strongly believed in a unified country with Quebec, thus completely
rejecting the idea of Quebec separatism, which helped develop Canada`s
multiculturalism (1980 Referendum par. 3). Lastly, he believed in full acceptance of
culture and language, therefore he played a significant role in the creation of official
bilingualism. (Bibliography par. 1). Clearly, Pierre Trudeauhas powerfully impacted

and created a pathway to a unified Canada. Firstly, this act helped maintain and strong
connection with Quebec and prevented their total isolation from Canada (par. 1). To
explain, Quebec sought to maintain their culture and preserve the French language
and if the terms were not met, they would attempt to leave Canada (Quebec par. 2).
Therefore, this act agreed upon the terms that the Quebecers wanted and allowed
every single Canadian citizen to seek services in their preferred language (Understand
par. 1). This right allowed French Canadians to feel less disconnected with the rest of
Canada, thus fixing the English and French relationship. Secondly, this act prevented
discrimination between the two cultures, as rights were created to merge the two
languages into the Canadian society (Understand par. 3). For example, a section in
the Official Languages Act states that federal institutions are required to provide
services in both official languages (par. 3). In other words, these two languages were
now implemented into the Canadian society and English Canadians became more
exposed to this minority culture, which lead to acceptance of the French culture and
language. Lastly, the Official Languages Act endorsed the advancement of
33. Desages And Disadvantages Of Composites
A composite material is a material that is made of (composed of) 2 or more
constituent materials with different physical and chemical properties of each other.
When combined, these materials form a composite with different properties from
both of its constituent. Composite material is preferred for many reasons. It is often
stronger, lighter, and less expensive when compared to traditional materials.
Engineered composite materials, for example, are: mortars, concrete, metal
composites, reinforced plastics, and ceramic composites. Nowadays, composites are
widely used in many fields, especially in industries. Industries including oil and gas
industry now use composites as their equipment s material. One of the strongest

Composites, which are mostly strong, are able to withstand the extreme condition
of offshore environment. In the offshore oil and gas industry, composites offer
many advantages. The manufacturing cost and erecting oil rigs can be
significantly reduced if using composites instead of using heavy metal.
Composites are lighter but offer a comparable strength. Composite could be used
for fire water piping, sea water cooling, draining systems and sewerage, sump
caissons and pull tubes, cable support systems, etc. The cost advantages by using
composite products are really significant when it is used to replace expensive
corrosion resistant metals such as copper nickel alloys, duplex / super duplex
stainless steel, titanium etc. The metals mentioned are very expensive compared to
composites. Also, composites are more lightweight. Composite is also very
resistance to salty and swampy solvent/fluids that may pass through, and therefore, it
improves the reliability and safety of the work environment, and also leads to lower

Abstract
This paper explores the main characteristics of the school counseling career. To
understand school counseling its history must be visited when it began in the 1800 s.
This paper goes through the steps of licensure, education requirements, and typical
therapy techniques adopted by today s school counselors. To fully understand how
to be the best at one s career it is important to collaborate with other s in one s
career field by joining professional associations. It is noted in this paper what those
associations are and the benefits of each of those associations.

As you can probably understand these teachers were overloaded with their regular
duties and did not have time to receive extra training to focus on vocational
/counseling related trainings. It wasn t until the 1900 s that the teacher counselor
positions were replaced with full time school counselors or what was known as
guidance counselors (Schimmel, 2008). An alliance among education, social work,
and psychometrics in vocational guidance led to the organization of the National
Vocational Guidance Association (NVGA) in 1913 (Lambie Williamson, 2004).
By creating this association, it gave a voice to guidance counselors and created a
network of support and strength to the career as a whole. In the 1940 s, the Father
of Counseling, Carl Rogers, published his book...Following the inception of Rogers
work, the term guidance began to be replaced in the literature by counseling...
(Lambie Williamson, 2004). Hence, the term guidance counselor is still used today,
the new generation of school counselors do not prefer to be titled as so. According to
Paisley and Borders (1995), federal legislation has been particularly significant in the
creation and definition of counseling positions in public schools. The National
Defense Education Act in 1965 provided particular opportunities for training school
counselors and implementing specialized programs (Paisely Borders, 1995). Around
this same timeframe many associations were forming to support school

doing all the fun things, at least to me. Splitting a toy, then dismantling its motors,
later use them to make a water boat electric fan was my regular activity. Since
machines had lured me all my life, it was an obvious decision to choose mechanical
engineeringas my future endeavor. Now, after completing graduation from the
Islamic University of Technology, a top tier (OIC Affiliate) and only international
University of Bangladesh, I would like to pursue a career accomplishing a Ph.D. in
the field of Mechanical Engineeringas an ardent Mechanical Engineer. My personal
interest, academic performance, brief exposure to research, professional experience
and inquisitiveness led me to believe that it would not only allow me to expand my
knowledge but also would give me the opportunity to obtain my eventual objective of
taking up a research oriented career in the field of mechanical engineering.
As undergraduate students, we have been exposed to a variety of subjects in this
field, thus it would be difficult to specify certain research area(s), but over the years

What is a SWOT Analysis ?
SWOT Analysis is a simple yet extremely useful decision making tool. SWOT is an
acronym for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. It can be used to
assess the current and future situation of the product, brand, company, proposal or
decision. A SWOT Analysis considers both internal factors (the strengths and
weaknesses) and external factors (the opportunities and threats) that are relevant to
the issue or problem under investigation 5. Outline three advantages and two
disadvantages of using a SWOT analysis.
Advantages of SWOT: * Completing a SWOT Analysis can be quite simple and
quick * It can be used for a wide range of decisions, such as how to react to the
threat of a competitor entering the market * SWOT Analysis helps to determine the
organisation s position in the marketplace and therefore aids the formulation of
corporate strategy for its long term survival * The SWOT framework encourages
foresight and proactive thinking, rather than relying on emotional or intuitive feelings
* It can help to reduce the risks of decision making by demanding objective and
logical thinking
Limitations of SWOT: * Critics of SWOT Analysis argue that it is too simplistic and

of intercommunication among its members, uses its participatory mechanisms
primarily to provide information and feedback, has and uses one or more genres
that help the community achieve its goals, has acquired some specific lexis, and
has a reasonable ratio of novices and experts (220 222.). Even though that may
seem like a large number of requirements in order to be defined as a discourse
community, it truly is not. Everyone in this world belongs to at least one discourse
community, while others belong to multiple communities. I decided to look at the
Type 1 diabetes discourse community, because it is a community I am personally a
part of. First, I would like to talk about how somebody joins this specific
community. As a type 1 diabetic, joining this community is not a choice, it is
forced. The only way for a person to join this community is to receive an official

Managing Technology
Technology, Information Technology included, have changed our lives in so many
ways. It changed how we recorded our thoughts into written words, how we
communicate with one another, how we shop, bank, how we keep our memories,
most aspect of our lives. It significantly changed the manufacture industry and
touched almost every single industry.
The first computer was invented in 1939 by Hewlett Packard in a garage in Palo

technology, the company held back for fear of hurting its own cash cow film
business, even well after digital products were reshaping the market [4]. Digital world
39. Walt s Chemistry Lectures In High Schools
molecules
In Season 1, Walt s chemistry lectures at the high school are a brilliant
foreshadowing of what is to come in his life. The lectures seem almost humorously
obvious that what Walt is preaching about is what is to come. In the episode 101,
Walt s lecture on the first day of school was an introduction to chemistry. He says that
it is technically the study of matter, but he prefers to think of it as the study of
change. This first lecture is setting up the series for change, particularly Walt s
change. Chemistry is a large part of Walt s life. Since chemistry and change are
interwoven like Walt claims, change is a large part of Walt s life. As the series
progresses, it is evident that this is quite the understatement. In Episode 102, ... Show

teacher. Walt is made to feel incompetent by all of his family; this is especially
evident at his birthday party. Hank starts showing Walter Jr. his gun, and Walter Jr.
tells his dad he should come and check it out. Walt shows a lot of apprehension
when it comes to holding the gun, and it does not seem at all natural in his hands.
Hank laughs at Walt s reaction to the gun and starts boasting to Walt s party guest
about his work in the DEA. Walt walks away sheepishly, going completely
unnoticed by his party guests. Walter seems to be ashamed of his inability to
provide better for his family and he hides potential frustration well behind the
façade of gentleness. When he is diagnosed with cancer, multiple people offer to
pay for his cancer treatments, but he refuses the offers. This makes it seems like he is
ready to be in control and take care of his family. This is possibly aim at being seen a

The...
To what justification has Alexander II become known as the Great Reformer ?
Russia in the 19th century was, as we now know, a fatally flawed system. An
autocracy that would not last beyond the early 20th century and there surrounds a
controversy and paradox in one of the last Tsars, Alexander II, who has many titles
imparted upon him, for example The Tsar Liberator or The Great Reformer ; the
later draws links to Peter the Great . Titles like these are cause of such controversy
are not based in the denial of his reforms but rather the significance of these reforms
whether it be; the depth of effect on people, the amount of people affected, the length
of time they were effected for or the effect of the event upon today. These are ways...

Each reform seeking to modernise Russia, in the words of Dr David Moon, rebuild
Military might and recover international status. However whether he was successful
in his aim does not directly contribute to the significance, it can be significant without
being successful.
Central to all of the reforms of Alexander II is the Emancipation Decrees which are
arguably the largest reforms of Alexander and set up for the following liberal
community reforms. The most well known is the Emancipation of the Serfs in 1861
had reaching consequences into every corner of Russia and its significance is
evident in the depth of contemporary excitement as described by Prince Pyotrs
Kropotkin, Crowds of peasants and educated men stood in front of the palace,
shouting hurrahs . Such rejoicing and mass celebration helps highlights the
importance placed upon this manifesto, but is also highlighted in the opinions of the
author himself as he is in opposition to the system but also a member of nobility in
which this manifesto has no direct effect and yet still supports and rejoices at the
manifesto. Showing the startling significance that the Russia public put upon this
reform, feeds itself into the significance of the Alexander as a reformer as Pytor
describes later [Alexander] Your name has been transmitted through history as that of
a hero . This point is compounded by a newspaper article at the time in which the

Hardships portray and elicit abilities that, in times of prosperity, might not have
been performable. Hardships include relationship, friendship, mental, and physical
challenges that cause stress. In these types of situations, one would be forced to
think of a situation and act upon it in order to move on and prosper. The quote
Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances
would have lain dormant. Horace, is one I agree with. Adversity causes one to think
differently, it builds character and is able to expose who you really are. For

Second Great Awakening
The second great awakening was a religious movement. It began around the 1790 s.
It grew popular through Methodists and Baptists. It was led by the Preachers. Arising
in the 1800s, it was one of the most significant occurrences in the history of American
religion. Countless people were converted and many churches were changed and
revived. Not only affecting religion, the movement influenced many other aspects
such as prison reform, the women s rights movement, abolishment of slavery,
advancements in literature, and reform in education. Women s roles in the church
were greatly affected and they deeply encouraged the religious revival, setting up
many organizations and charities.

Decision making is at the core of the United States Supreme Court. The justices are
not immune to possessing political ideologies and similarly to the American public,
those ideologies impact their lives to varying degrees. The facet of judicial politics
explored in this paper is decision making and the impact of ideology. While it would
be ideal for the Supreme Court to have zero influences other than the constitution, it
is also wishful thinking. Author Jeffrey Toobin agrees with political scientists that
the justices of the United States Supreme Court make decisions and rulings that are
a result of their ideologies and personal values. He says, All justices have a political
ideology as well as a legal philosophy that s a big reason presidents choose them in
the first place. Perhaps the most astute opinion on this matter comes from Justice
Sonia Sotomayor: The aspiration to impartiality is just that it s an aspiration because
it denies the fact that we are by our experiences making different choices than others.
Personal experiences affect the facts that judges choose to see Toobin s own
statements often reflect the argument that he attempts to prove about the justices
being in line with the attitudinal model. He writes, The justices built their judicial
philosophies on the foundation of their prior lives. The question is, to what extent do
justices allow their personal values and experiences to impact their court duties? The
idea that the justices are

In a recent study, it is estimated that 30% of the daily traffic jam in an urban cityis
caused by vehicles trying for parking spaces, and due to lack of parking spaces,
some drivers often use the parking spots reserved for special people, e.g. disabled.
Finding parking space is not only waste of time and fuel, but it also increases
pollution and drivers frustration. These issues can be resolved by the development of
new smart parking systems able to better manage the urban parking areas and
perform road traffic issues.
After analyzing all the IoT enabling technologies, e.g. Ultra High Frequency (UHF)
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and Wireless Sensor Network (WSN).
We came to a conclusion that RFID and WSN are the best available technologies
for the development of a smart parking system. RFID holds major advantages over
others as it is low cost, consumes low power, and consist of passive devices called
tags. These tags enables the user to transmit data when power is supplied to them
via electromagnetic field generated by a reader. They usually have a long life span
which makes them a strong contender for the development of a variety of useful
applications. But RFID also have its limitations, due to their reduced operating range

into the mind of a child, helping him understand their way of thinking. Silverstein
relays these understandings into many of his works, including this poem called
Where the Sidewalk Ends. . In the poem, the speaker depicts two specific places: the
sidewalk and the street.During the first couple of reads, the poem is quite fairytale
like, but truth be told, this poem may not be as whimsical as it seems. Using
hyperbolic language, diction, and vivid imagery, Silverstein addresses how the

The first stanza describes the place where the sidewalk ends , using euphoric
words, such as moon bird (5) and peppermint wind (6), to evoke a dreamy, content
mood. The use of euphony assists in portraying the indulgences of childhood,
appealing to senses dulled in adulthood as humanity grows too arrogant to revel in
these simple pleasures. The second stanza is a quick transition to describing the
street . A street is a place for commute, work, and responsibility and in the poem, the
speaker uses of cacophony to connote this street as negative, dark, and dreary. With
this, one can presume that the street symbolizes the adult world. This contrasts with
the sidewalk, which is describe with a sense of serenity. The harsh, bleak words
continue on in the stanza: Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow (9). The
speaker uses the fictional paradox of asphalt flowers to exaggerate what constitutes as
nature, or beauty, in the urbanized world, a technique used throughout the

48. Characteristics Of An Organization As A Mechanical Image
Introduction
The overall structure of various types of organizations can be framed by using
metaphorical images, which help to clarify the way that organizations operate.
Morgan (2006) discusses several of these metaphorical images, including the image of
an organization as a machine and the image of an organization as an organism. Each
image is unique, but there are some similarities and many differences between the
two. In order to understand each image meaningfully, the two images will be
introduced, explained, compared, and contrasted in this paper. A personal perspective
follows this, outlining which image would be chosen if only one image were
available as the single way to structure an organization.
The Mechanical Image The theory of an organization as a mechanical image supports
the idea that organizations should be managed as specialized, separate parts that
contribute to a larger goal within the organization. There are several defining
characteristics associated with the mechanical image of organization. A mechanical
organization typically has a structure that is characterized as bureaucratic, with a
rigid system of hierarchical management. According to Weber (1947), who was at
the forefront of explaining hierarchical organizations, each lower office is under the
control and supervision of a higher one, and there is a right of appeal and of
statement of grievances from the lower to the higher (p. 221). This type of top down
management, often defined in

50. Examples Of Oppression In A Tale Of Two Cities
Oppression Led to Rebellion It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...
(Dickens,3). The world is such a duality where the good and bad things are going
on the same time. Some people are experiencing happinesses, some people are
suffering from difficulties; the world is just not fit for everyone. In the book A Tale
of Two Cities, oppression is fully put on the poor, while the happiness is enjoyed by
the rich. The poor have endured the endless difficulties until all of their anger
reached a peak and a revolutionary war broke out. While the poor began their
revenge, the rich were still enjoying their abuse of powers. The poor couldn t deal
with these injustices which made their hearts oppressed and led them to the vengeful

Due to the injustices, people demanded a law to equalize the power, which was
called the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen (August 26, 1789). The
law states: men are equal, and taxation should be determined based on ability to
pay.(Burch). The enactment of the law seemed logic in this case: it was difficult
to let the poor change their lifestyle without other supports. And the rich was able
to afford the taxes, but they didn t spend efforts on helping others, and lack of
empathy on other caused them got a vengeful feedback from the poor. In the book
TOTC, the author described the vengeful people who were vexed by the threatens
from the government and rushed into the Bastille looking for gunpowder by using
some deep metaphors. With a roar that sounded as if all breath in France had been
shaped into the detested word, the living sea rose, wave on wave, depth on depth,
and overflowed the city to that point. (Dickens, 207). Roar means the anger from
oppressed citizens which shows the strength of their hatred. The author described
the crowd as a risen sea which rushed into the Bastille like an uncontrollable tide.
The depth of the sea is unpredictable, there were feelings of hatred from everywhere;
the rich could never know how many people they have offended and how much
hatred they have to deserve. All people have rights to receive equality, if

It s hard to imagine that Christianity, a religion today with such a stronghold on the
population with an estimated 2.2 billion adherents, could have ever once possibly
ceased to exist so easily. Somehow, it continued to grow despite 150 years of such
uncertainty and persecution in Rome for followers of Christ. From the 33 A.D. when
it is estimated that Jesus was crucified to 261 A.D. when the hunt for Christians
begins to deescalate slightly, Christians were sought after for crimes against the
Roman government. So how did the Roman emperorConstantine Idecide to adopt
Christianityas his own religion in 312 A.D. not long after mass criticism? First hand
accounts and testimonies from Roman administrators are available to us today as
records of the persecution of Christian believers. Records such as that of Pliny the
Younger s, a respected Roman administrator who, in 103 CE was sent to Bithynia
to help to govern a troubled area with unrest caused in part by a new group that
called themselves Christians. He would ask suspected Christians questions in order
to get them to confess and then be executed. They were tried on the basis of
