Analysis Of Alfonso Cuaron s Children Of Men
STATEMENT This essay analyses how mise en scene informs both what is seen and how we are
invited to see it, in Alfonso Cuaron s Children of Men (2006), a dystopian science fiction thriller. The
film is set in England in 2027 and humanity has become infertile. Every other society has collapsed
due to dwindling populations with many migrating to England a former activist, Theo Faron (Clive
Owen), agrees to help, Julian Taylor (Julianne Moore), to get Kee a miraculously pregnant woman to a
sanctuary at sea. The aim of this essay is to investigate the power of mise en scene, specifically in the
use of setting and staging in key scenes that frames the state of affairs in this imaginary society and
the use of omnipresent media in the film and how audience is invited to see it by resembling their own
reality. Using close textual anlysis of Children of Men, combined with an ideological critique of post
9/11 global, this analysis will demonstrate how Alfonso Cuaron s uses the techniques of mise en scene
show the audience a perception of reality in ways which invites them to debate the nature of
contemporary society or politics . Key words: mise en scene, staging, setting.

Financial Accounting Concerns
1. Tokyo AFM recognized premium revenue at the time it received the policyholder s up front cash
payment. The company s accountants argued that since the level of up front payments received from
policyholders had been stable over the last few years, this method was an appropriate reflection of
economic reality.
For example, Fuji Computers entered into a five year insurance contract with Tokyo AFM against
earthquake damage to its headquarters building. As is customary, it paid the 100 million premiums for
the five year coverage up front in cash.
Question: How would you recognize revenues associated with this type of catastrophe insurance

Another expense that can be considered for capitalization is advertising costs. Only advertising costs
that are direct response advertising can be capitalized. Direct response advertising is advertising for
which the primary purpose is to stimulate sales to customers or potential customers that have
specifically responded to the advertising and it results in probable future benefits. Hence $20,000 cost
of marketing efforts incurred over the past six months to promote Home Umbrella which is direct
response advertising cost should be capitalized and amortized over the period of contract.
3. Broadly speaking, two major types of insured events could give rise to losses covered by insurance
contracts:
* Events that actuarial analysis could assess and predict with a high level of accuracy across a large
number of contracts (for example, events covered by automobile insurance). * Catastrophes, which
were generally adverse natural events such as earthquakes and hurricanes, but which could also be
human induced events such as terrorist attacks. Catastrophes were considered low probability high
consequence events. They were uncertain and very difficult to predict in terms of timing and extent of
damage. For the coming year, the company had estimated that expected losses across all its
automobile insurance contracts would amount to 70% of

What Is Braveheart
Braveheart is a movie that full of adventure, romance, action and bravery. It is written by Randall
Wallace and directed by Mel Gibson. This story had been written during 13th century. William
Wallace made a revolt together with the Scottish people against English men ruled by King Edward I.
Through intercession of William Wallace, Scottish people awaken their spirit to fight for freedom and
to have independence at the hand of the English Empire. This movie is very interesting and one of the
best movies I have watched. The director reveals the different strategies and tactics on fighting in the
battlefield. This movie portrayed different scenes about love, friendship, leaderships and many more
that makes movie complete.

wondered while I watching the movie. I thought the feeling of being citizen of the kingdom or being
the king during that time. What will I do to my invaders? I thought also to what I can contribute to my
country if I am strong and brave? Should I follow the step of William? But all of this is just a dream. I
can say that the movie is very well presented from the different scenes up to the sound effects they
have exerted. Mel Gibson caught the taste of the viewer regarding to this type of movie which is based
from the literature of the ancient time like the Passion of Christ that he has directed also. Based on the
movie that I have watched, I rate this movie 10 point because I am fully

Ambler Real House Scandal
Facts:
This is a dispute over zoning ordinance and whether it is infringing on the rights of property owners.
The Village of Euclid (Euclid) is a municipal corporation in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. It is 12 14
square acres, most of which is farmland and unimproved acreage. Ambler Realty Co. (Ambler) owns
68 acres of land in the westerly edge of the village. A zoning ordinance was adopted by the Village of
Euclid on November 13, 1922 which divided the village into multiple districts and specified exactly
what type of buildings were to be built in each district, specifically the use of buildings and their
height and FAR. Ambler s land spanned multiple districts of land and so Ambler s ability to construct
buildings on its land was severely limited, per the zoning ordinance. Ambler claims that this restriction
has reduced the market value of their land from $10,000 to $2,500 per acre. ... Show more content on

Ambler goes on to say that the government took the value of their land and they were not paid for this
taking. The argument defending the ordinance says that since Ambler stills holds the title to the land

have restrictions placed on it since their land is still under their

Upper Extremity Robotic Analysis
As of 2016, approximately 795,000 people have experienced a stroke, with an individual experiencing
a stroke nearly every 40 seconds (Mozaffarian et al., 2016). The American Heart Association (2013)
predicts that the number of individuals who will have a stroke will increase 20% by 2030. The
increased prevalence of stroke may lead to serious issues in daily functioning for individuals;
therefore, stroke interventions that address functional impairments are crucial. Upper extremity
robotics is a relatively novel occupational therapy (OT) intervention for stroke rehabilitation, so
critical examination of the effect of robotics to address body structure/function impairments, activity
limitations, and participation restrictions is required (World ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Occupational therapists working with the stroke population use activity analysis and observation skills
to identify and analyze the functional impairments that result in activity limitations (McHugh
Pendleton Schultz Krohn, 2011). Established and effective OT interventions, such as repetitive task
training (RTP) and constraint induced movement therapy (CIMT), are used to address functional
impairments in the stroke population (Nilsen, Gillen, Arbesman, Lieberman, 2015; Wolf et al., 2006).
According to the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (2012), 60.7% of
registered OTs provide rehabilitation services to individuals who had been diagnosed with a Cerebral
Vascular Accident (CVA). A systematic review (Nilsen et al., 2015) found that the responsibilities of
an occupational therapist include administering a variety of assessments to create an occupational
profile when treating an individual following a stroke. One example of an OT assessment that
measures participation, one s involvement in a life situation (WHO, 2001), is the Canadian
Occupational Performance Measure (COPM), which asks the client to identify up to five occupations
he or she would like improve performance for, and rate his or her perceived performance and
satisfaction of these occupations (Law et al., 2014). Performance skills and client factors are often
evaluated with Fugl Meyer Assessment and the Action Research Arm Test to further assess
functionality of the upper extremity with respect to neuromusculoskeletal functions, sensory functions,
and motor skills (Fugl Meyer, Jaasko, Leyman, Olsson, Steglind, 1975; Lyle, 1981; Nilsen et al.,

company is ran on a daily business. In my company we have a very strategic set of plans and goals

the many different day to day operations that are working and bringing in revenue to the company. We
also talk about the different aspects of the business that need changes, whether if it is customer based

Human resources playes a big role in 2020 Communications, they are the back bone of the company.
HR has steared away for the traditional hire and fire role and developed to an integral part of the
business. The Human Resource department goes through diffeent strategies in which wherre they try

company. It is easy for a company to focus on these aspects due to the fact that we dont have to worry

Schizophrenia: An Elusive Complex Disorder
A discussion of the Progress made so far in understanding the Genetic Architecture of Schizophrenia
Mendelian diseases conform to Mendel s laws of genetic inheritance; segregation and independent
assortment. Therefore, every pair of alleles in diploid organisms, are separated during meiosis and one
allele for every trait is passed onto one of the two daughter cells, independently of all other genes.
Thus, depending on the recessive or dominant status of both alleles for a gene, an individual may or
may not develop a simple disorder where one gene is sufficient causality (Mendel, 1865). In ... Show

R., 2010); * Single genetic locus * Multiple single loci * Additively combining loci
Thus implying either oligogenic or polygenic architecture, with the number of genes and extent of
epistasis yet to be clarified (Owen M.J., 2005). To emulate the observed risk to relatives pattern
several variants may be combined in a multiplicative way, as demonstrated by the S curve in figure 2,
where individuals with more than 43 risk alleles will develop the disorder.
Figure 2
Figure 2
Exchange models such as the liability threshold model (LTM), figure 3, can also model Schizophrenia.
Both models can be created for many combinations of allele number, frequency, effect size predicting
a steep rise in disease probability for a small percentage of the population. In the LTM all individuals
have unknown liability with both an environmental and genetic component, presentation is sporadic,
limited to those that meet the threshold.
Figure 3
Figure 3
LTM is parameterized solely on the total variance the genetic architecture is accountable for making it
a good model to hypothesise upon as it requires no explicit assumptions for; allele number, frequency
and effect size. LTM supports the current range of exchangeable genetic models that have varying
hypothesis but limited statistical differentiation (Wray N. R., 2010). Reduced fecundity in patients
decreases genetic variance whilst de novo mutations exert the opposite force, neither of which can be

The Power Of Representing Problems As A Knowledge Network
Abstract IN this paper we review the power of representing problems as a knowledge network and
some of the applications of knowledge networks in civil engineering through explaining the search
methodology of Dijkstra and kruskal algorithms which are two of the most common algorithms
applied in this field

I. INTRODUCTION
This paper reviews 3 applications for knowledge networks in civil engineering, but before we review
these problem we talk about the importance of problem representation and how it can transfer the
experience of in certain field to another, that s what Simon did in the known number scrabble game.
In section two we explain what is knowledge network and how does it work, in section three we
review the shortest path problem and how to apply dijkstra algorithm, in section four we review the
minimum spanning tree (MST) problem and how to solve it using kruskal algorithm, in section five
we explain the representation of trusses as a networks and how could this be useful.
II. KNOWLEDGE NETWORK
The network consists of group of points represented by nodes and are connected through group of
lines called edges, if every edge in the graph has a direction then the graph is directed

Essay on The Triangular Silas Marner
The Triangular Silas Marner
As a result of betrayal, Silas Marner of George Eliot s so titled novel becomes a man in body without
incurring any of the duties normally associated with nineteenth century working class adults. Eliot
creates these unusual circumstances by framing our title hero so it appears to his comrades that he has
stolen money. Thereby, she effectively rejects innocent Marner from his community and causes him to
lose his fiancé. At this pivotal moment in Marner s life, just as he is about to assume fully the role of a
man, depended upon as such by his neighbors, future wife and probable children, he is excised and
does not successfully complete the transformation. Accordingly, he moves on to a new ... Show more

However, I do not think that Silas Marner s endorsement of family values is nearly as straightforward
as Nunokawa makes it out to be. In fact, Eliot s stance on the family unit is three pronged. Nunokawa
s reduction of Silas Marner to a dichotomy ignores the middle ground that Eliot ultimately
recommends as the key to a life with a happy ending.
In order to demonstrate this, I must first show that none of the families in Silas Marner (with the
exception of Silas own) are totally happy. In accord with Nunokawa, I will start with the
uncomplicated melancholy of Squire Cass male only family. Eliot candidly tells her reader that Red
House [the Squire s residence] was without the presence of the wife and mother which is the fountain
of wholesome love and fear in parlour and kitchen (Eliot 22). Immediately, Eliot prepares her reader
for an unhappy, incomplete group of inhabitants. The only scene between father and eldest son is both
awkward and unkind, showing the attitude of life within the motherless house. The one scene in the
novel between two brothers, Godfrey, the eldest, and his next younger brother, Dunsey, mocks the
notion of brotherly love, depicting it as actually blackmail via brotherly knowledge (Eliot 24).
The brother scene calls to mind the next well respected family in Raveloe, the Lammeters.

Such a contract may be verbal or in writing under a standard residential lease agreement. There are a
few facts that may support Sam being in breach of his contract. One fact is that Sam did not retrieve a

have licenses before they practice (Kubasek, 2015). Sam could also be in breach for violating

he is interfering with their right to quiet enjoyment. Otherwise, this loud barking invention has

It was the year that the tsunami that hit the Asian coast in the year 2004, the author of The Killing Sea
by Richard Lewis decided that that was the tsunami he wanted to use to explain his message that not

unfair that the people in Indonesia had no fair .This is proved by the line in the book on page 144 in
chapter 19, This area was still richly veined with bodies. This is evidence because of the fact that the

1. Newspaper headlines 1.1. What is newspaper headline? Conventionally, it is believed that
newspapers have more readers than any other kind of written text. According to Van Dijk (1986), for
most citizens, news is perhaps the type of written discourse with which they are confronted most
frequently (p. 156). In the newspaper it is the headline that has the highest readership. It summarizes
the content of a story, and entices an audience into reading the article. According to Ungerer (2000), a
headline describes the essence of a complicated news story in a few words. It informs quickly and
accurately and arouses the reader s curiosity (p. 48). Newspaper headlines are particularly important
for the way readers comprehend a news text, they are markers that monitor attention, perception and
the reading process (Van Dijk, 1988). According to Danuta R. (1998), headline is a unique type of
text. It has a range of functions that specifically dictate its shape, content, and structure and it operates
within a range of restrictions that limited the freedom of the writer. In other words, headline should

several years prior. Since then scientists have researched to find the cause of the scrapie agent that are

The uncertainty of the origin and cause of scrapie is due to the insufficient research to find a solution
to the epidemic because it is still considered a relatively new disease and not an immediate threat to
humans. There have been three main theories of the cause of scrapie and its resistant nature to all
previous experimental cures. The first theory is that the agent is a virus with unusual characteristics.
The second theory is that the agent is a prion, which is an exclusively host coded protein that is
modified to a protease resistant form after infection. The last theory is that the agent is a virino, a
small nucleic acid coated with a host derived protective protein that allows it to resist scientists futile
attempts at destroying it (Scrapie Fact Sheet. August 2001:
http://www.animalagriculture.org/scrapie/AboutScrapie/FactSheet.htm).
The first theory of the scrapie agent being an unusual virus presents a serious problem to scientists
because viruses do not respond to antibiotics and other chemicals of that nature. Scientists would have

A Perfect Day For Bananafish Research Paper
Jerome David Salinger, better known as J.D. Salinger was the renowned author of the short story, A
Perfect Day for Bananafish and The Catcher in the Rye. A New York native born on January 1, 1919,
J.D. Salinger began to get published in 1940 before entering what would change his life and writing
forever, World War II. J.D. Salinger s writing can be seen as distant due to the events throughout the
time he served in World War II. The trauma, locations, and time periods presented in, A Perfect Day
for Bananafish has extremely similar composition therefore, the way Salinger writes is influenced
with his experience in the war. As seen in, A Perfect Day for Bananafish one of the main characters,
Seymour Glass is told to embody J.D. Salinger. In the short story Seymour Glass has just returned

Salinger also provides a similar scenery in his short story that adds up to where he was stationed in the
beginning of his military service. As seen in the short story this is where Seymour is on the beach with
his new friend, Sybil Carpenter who is a young girl. This is a reflection of Utah beach in France. This
is where Salinger landed during D day. Shmoop online tells more about Salinger D Day by stating,
...landing at Utah Beach on D Day and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge near the end of the war. He
also was among the first soldiers to enter the newly liberated concentration camp at Dachau, Germany,
witnessing firsthand the horrors of the Holocaust. Utah beach is an obviously connotation to the beach
at the resort in his story. Now moving to his memory of being in the concentration camps. J.D.
Salinger was in line with many children in the camps, which leads me to notice how in the beach
scene in the story he is with a child, known as Sybil. I can see how being in the concentration camps
influence his way of writing this story. By providing actual people from his real life experiences to

A Country Doctor by Sarah Orne Jewett
Who has the right to determine any individual s future? This is often the subject of debate and is
subjected to the prejudices of social norms. The protagonist in Sarah Orne Jewett s A Country Doctor,
Nan Prince, fights against these prejudices pertaining to the expected role of women in society1 with a
calm and dignified demeanor. In Nan s pursuit of her career as a doctor, she encounters reasons for
and against her decision from her personal history, religion, and the portrayal of her career and friends,
but she overcomes all opinions and demonstrates the independence of women in society. Nan s
instinct against submission to the male dominated society portrays itself early in her life,
demonstrating the extent to which it is ingrained as a part of her being. From her earliest years, the
townspeople in Oldfields remark that she is more a child of nature than of proper humanity
(Donovan). She even rejects her proper name of Anna and insists on being called Nan. This wild
childhood is ensured by Dr. Leslie as her legal guardian when he allows her to not go to orthodox
schooling but instead, to receive a Wordsworthian education by embracing her nature (Nagel).
Bestselling author and renowned critic Judith Harper fittingly describes Nan as one who: is fascinated
by nature and outdoor activity but disdains all things domestic, including the expectation of marriage
that she fights so hard against. Despite these early signs, many, including Dr. Ferris, express doubt at

Punk Rock During The Cold War Essay
Thesis Paragraph:
The Cold War was a period of time where there was political and military tension between the United
States and the USSR. Punk rock bands had a lot to say about everything that was happening during
this period of time. Including revolutionary changes or almost having a nuclear war and they
expressed their thoughts through loud and fast songs. Punk rock was very popular in Britain and the
United States but mostly Britain. There were many more punks in Britain and it was acceptable to be a
punk. During the time of the cold war, punk rock was used to inform people of political conflicts
happening throughout the world and did it through music (1). Punk rock bands also sang about the
economic problems during the cold war. Before the cold war though swing, jazz, blues, and the big

Registered Nurse Personality Analysis
Finding the best people to work in organizations has peaked over time due to many companies
downsizing (Frankenfield, Kleiner, 2000). For this reason, most organizations are no longer
exclusively relying on interviews in the screening process of new employees. The purpose of pre
employment testing is to aid in predicting future behavior (Bloomquist, Kleiner, 2000). The use of
employment testing has increased over time in order to find and hire the best employee. The
information I plan to collect with this assessment is risky pattern behaviors and emotions that have the
potential to prevent a potential job candidate from being effective in the workplace. For example, the

Additionally, personality tests aid in identifying potential risky behavioral or emotional patterns that
will prevent a potential job candidate from working efficiently and effectively. Traits such as stress
tolerance, initiative, and emotional stability are often measured with personality assessments in order
to determine how successful an individual will be in the organization (Society for Industrial and
Organizational Psychology, 2015). This personality assessment will measure and identify performance
risks centered on personality, and emotional habits related to the healthcare field in the pre hire stage
for a Registered Nurse position. Furthermore, it will help to identify potential risky behaviors
associated with tolerance, openness, stress, excitability, cautiousness, diligence, and boldness. This
assessment will aid in identifying, if any, potential risky patterns that can possibly have a negative
impact on their job effectiveness and relationships, and can bring potential harm to the patients, co
workers, organization, etc. This will be done by analyzing the item responses to each statement and
determining if the response could potentially be a risky behavior in the organization s climate and
culture. While, this assessment can be used to identify potential risky behaviors, it can also display
results that are conducive to constructive emotional and behavioral

Justice Is Justified By Plato s The Republic
For centuries, people have been asking the question, what is justice? Although justice is not sincerely
defined in Plato s The Republic, both Socrates and Thrasymachus enter into a deep discussion over
what justice truly is. After Socrates disproves Cephalus and Polemarchus explanations of justice,
Thrasymachus declares that justice is simply what is in the interest of the stronger party (338c).
Furthermore, he debunks justice altogether, arguing that justice is the strong exploiting the weak and
that the unjust lifestyle is better than the just lifestyle. The two elements that this paper will break
down is Thrasymachus s idea of justice and how he thinks that being unjust is better than being just.
Initially, Thrasymachus s sentiment of justice is simply what is in the interest of the stronger party
(338c). This causes Socrates to question Thrasymachus on what Thrasymachus means when he says
interest . Socrates wants Thrasymachus to simplify what he means by interest because everybody has
different interests. For example, a bartender has the interest of making drinks to satisfy his customers,
while a computer programmer has the interest of making programs to create advances in technology.
As a result, Thrasymachus categorizes the interest limited to only rulers and answers Socrates s
question that interest is what is right , each type of government enacts laws that are in its own interest,
a democracy democratic laws, a tyranny tyrannical ones and so on; and in

Analysis Of Lord Of The Flies
Intro: Give title and author. Background.
In Lord of the Flies by John Steinback a group of young boys are stranded on an island. To survive the
boys decided to vote who should be their leader, Ralph or Jack. Piggy is a smart, fat boy who is not
respected by the boys. Ralph is the face of leadership but not the best for the job compared to Piggy.
Piggy is the brains behind Ralph who gives the essential idea to further progress the island.
Ralph is the face of leadership and according to everyone but Piggy the best for the job. In this
passage the boys are taking a vote on who should be the leader for the island. Vote for chief! Let s vote
This toy of voting was almost as pleasing as the conch. Jack started to protest but the clamor changed
from the general wish for a chief to an election by acclaim of Ralph himself. None of the boys could
have found good reason for this; what intelligence had been shown was traceable to Piggy while the
most obvious leader was Jack. But there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out:
there was his size, and attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the
conch. The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing
balanced on his knees, was set apart. Him with the shell. Ralph! Ralph! Let him be chief with the
trumpet thing. Ralph raised a hand for silence. All right. Who wants Jack for chief? With dreary
obedience the choir raised their

The capacity model by Michael Mumford contains five components. The skills that attributed to the
success of Coach Knight are the individual attributes. The skills of competency, motivation and more
specifically problem solving skills were the skills he possessed according to this model. He had a
deficit in his social judgment skills and environmental influences that, in turn, worked well for Coach
K and to his success. Coach K. often remarked on his upbringing and how this influenced the quality
of his communication. Coach K. struggled with the area of motivation, especially as it relates to
dominance. As stated above, Coach K. did not want to be a dictator, which simply meant domination
skills where not his priority.
The leadership styles of Coach Knight and Coach K. are different in a few aspects using the Blake

Parish leadership. He views the players as being the means to an end. When we look at Coach K using
this grid he exemplifies high production high people style. He stresses the needs of producing and the

The Sound Of Upright String Bass Performance
Upright string bass performance is an ever changing profession that has played a vital role to the
history of the jazz ensemble. The bass has evolved more through jazz in the past one hundred years
than since the instrument s conception in the 15th century. In early jazz bands, the bass had a simple
and extremely conscientious style, which limited itself to furnishing fundamental harmonic tones. One
of the greatest bass players in this style is Pops Foster, known for the extraordinary power and attack
of his playing. Later on in the mid 20th century, bassists like Jimmy Blanton and Oscar Pettiford
pushed the string bass into a new light where the instrument s unsuspected potential as a solo
instrument would be realized. The bass also underwent a radical change from entirely acoustic to
entirely electric which has changed modern music forever. Electric bassists like Stanley Clarke and
Jaco Pastorius could now play many notes at once and utilize the fusion aspect of the music and the
instrument. The role of the bass in jazz has been constantly undervalued and misunderstood. People
often view the bass as a cumbersome instrument, or as expendable. The jazz ensemble without a bass
is like a house without its foundation, unable to stand up without the structure it provides. Because the
essential element in improvised jazz is the harmonic structure of the song, it is up to the bass to guide
other instrumentalists through difficult chord changes and somehow string all of the notes

The Importance Of Conflicts In The Jungle
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair is a tough read that teaches the corrupt policies of capitalism. The
narrator, Jurgis, struggles with his new life in America because it isn t the ideal dream that most
immigrants have. Jurgis struggles are understandable, but there are many who have never had to
experience what he has so it is harder to sympathize and compare oneself to that of a character with no
similarities. However, this novel also teaches the hardships immigrants typically went through during
their transitions, or their lives in general, in America while also providing the reader with healthy
confusion. This novel establishes a sense of confusion, uneasiness, or worry while also making the
reader feel pleasure or happiness. There are several instances in the novel where the reader
experiences this healthy confusion while learning about the differences in lifestyles between the
fortunate and those looking to have a new life but encounter conflicts. Most scenes in this novel are
sad, but also have happiness buried deep within the text or meaning. In The Jungle, Jurgis struggles
with his life in America and has trouble finding a job to support himself, his family, and pay off his
debts, like the wedding. He is able to find a job, but it does not pay well and the working conditions
are horrible. After hurting himself and going to jail, he is unable to find another job and does whatever

Functionalism is simply defined as the idea that the purpose of everything we do is to support our
society or ourselves. Many Anthropologists and sociologists are functionalists but for this essay I ll be
focusing more on two of the most famous people who support this idea; Bronislaw Malinowski and
Émile Durkheim. The two share differences and similarities in the approaches they take depending on
the groups they studied.
Durkheim, a French sociologist, who is one of the founders of sociology, claimed that meaningful
human practices can be understood in sociological, biological and psychological terms. Though, He
puts a clear understanding as to how sociological approach to studying human practices is a scientific
discipline unique from biology and psychology in its own way. Durkheim explains his idea of
sociological approach as it s own science in this methodology he calls a social fact. he defines this
term as any way of acting which is general over the whole of a given society whilst having an
existence of its own, independent of its individual manifestations. (Malinowski.59) To Durkheim,
Social facts are ways of understanding a society that are abstract but real, external to all individuals,
which exert coercive power over individuals beliefs by limiting the basic individuals forms of
consciousness and behavior, and are also inevitable meaning if you are a member of the society you

I don t think it is all that surrealistic and curious because surely this thing, of people arriving at the

This knock at the door is suggestive of the trepidation and helplessness felt by the Jewish communities

indicative of an entry into the world of the abject to destroy its threatening physiognomies and to force

Roles Of Mothers In Nazi Germany
Mothers and Their Roles in Nazi Germany
I am here today to discuss how gender played a critical role in the construction of the Nazi State, prior
to 1938. Specifically, I would like to focus my analysis on how and why the Nazis constructed a
conception of motherhood that defined the mother in relation to the state. For our purposes today, we
will examine two ideal German mothers and explore their similarities in order to understand how and
why the Nazis perceived mothers as public agents of the Volksgemeinschaft, or German community of
people. Primary documents will allow us to examine first hand experiences of mothers written within
the context of Nazi Germany.
But first, on must begin by understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mothers were supposed to demonstrate an absence of self identity and an abundance of devotion to
children. Hitler, in his speech to the National Socialist Women s Section (NSF), intertwined the thems
of nationalism and self sacrifice into one sentence. Hitler comments, What a man gives in courage on
the battlefield, the woman gives in eternal self sacrifice, in eternal pain and suffering (HCC 278).
Hitler makes motherhood into a nationalistic function by likening the mother to a soldier or an agent
of the state, while simultaneously emphasizing the self sacrifice necessary to be an ideal German
mother.
Having explored how the Nazis construct their definition of motherhood, let s begin our examination
of two ideal German mothers by using our primary documents. It is important for you to know that
they were both ordinary mothers, living under the Nazi regime prior to 1938. Please pay careful
attention to the similarities presented between these two mothers and also, their likeness to the Nazi
conception of motherhood.

The Hebrew Bible And The Bible Essay
The Hebrew Bible contains contradictory and inadequate information, which impacts my views about
what the Hebrew Bible, says and what the Bible means. It has multiple significances. It is evident that
various scriptures in the Hebrew Bible do not say what it means, nor does it mean what it says.
Ultimately, it s going to take some detective work in an effort to enhance interpretation further. [pg. 6].
In addition, I feel that portions, and not all of the Hebrew Bible should be re investigated, modified, re
instated and re interpreted to include all God s people, of all nationalities and religions in fairness and
justice. Why? The Hebrew Bible is interpreted by ancient religious authorities that possessed racist
values is why. As a result of these racist values, historical records of the existence of African American
people were eliminated from the Hebrew Bible. Martin Noth, considered to be one of the most
respectable Old Testament Scholars of all time, states in his book The Old Testament World (Fortress,
1966) that the biblical writers knew nothing of any Negro people (Dr. Dan Rodgers).
Besides the non existence there are myths, folktales, untruths, dysfunctional behaviors, back stabbing,
unbelievable violence, and stories that tend to make you say hum mm. For various odd reasons,
unfamiliar to me, my expectations of people and events of the Hebrew Bible are set higher and totally

Serving Lunch For School Children Essay
Serving lunch to school children began with private organizations making donations to a handful of
schools. In the peak of the 20th century, concern over children s nutrition caused balanced meals to be
provided to students during their lunch hour. Philadelphia began to serve lunches for one cent in 1894.
Eventually their penny lunch program was extended to eight other schools throughout the city. In
January 1910, schools in Boston began serving lunch to elementary school students three days a week.
On the other days, a simple meal of milk and sandwiches was served. Since there was no lunchroom
in the building, students would eat at their desks (Avey, 2015).
At long last, the school lunch program was made official in 1946 when President Harry Truman
signed the National School Lunch Act. The National School Lunch Act of 1946 states: It is hereby
declared to be the policy of Congress, as a measure of national security, to safeguard the health and
well being of the Nation s children and to encourage the domestic consumption of nutritious
agricultural commodities and other food, by assisting the States, through grants in aid and other
means, in providing an adequate supply of food and other facilities for the establishment,
maintenance, operation and expansion of nonprofit school lunch programs (Avey, 2015).

  • 2. Analysis Of Alfonso Cuaron s Children Of Men STATEMENT This essay analyses how mise en scene informs both what is seen and how we are invited to see it, in Alfonso Cuaron s Children of Men (2006), a dystopian science fiction thriller. The film is set in England in 2027 and humanity has become infertile. Every other society has collapsed due to dwindling populations with many migrating to England a former activist, Theo Faron (Clive Owen), agrees to help, Julian Taylor (Julianne Moore), to get Kee a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea. The aim of this essay is to investigate the power of mise en scene, specifically in the use of setting and staging in key scenes that frames the state of affairs in this imaginary society and the use of omnipresent media in the film and how audience is invited to see it by resembling their own reality. Using close textual anlysis of Children of Men, combined with an ideological critique of post 9/11 global, this analysis will demonstrate how Alfonso Cuaron s uses the techniques of mise en scene show the audience a perception of reality in ways which invites them to debate the nature of contemporary society or politics . Key words: mise en scene, staging, setting. ESSAY P1 Fig. 1 2 Concentration cages for emigrants in distinct points of the city shown in Children of Men. • 3. Tokyo Financial Accounting Concerns 1. Tokyo AFM recognized premium revenue at the time it received the policyholder s up front cash payment. The company s accountants argued that since the level of up front payments received from policyholders had been stable over the last few years, this method was an appropriate reflection of economic reality. For example, Fuji Computers entered into a five year insurance contract with Tokyo AFM against earthquake damage to its headquarters building. As is customary, it paid the 100 million premiums for the five year coverage up front in cash. Question: How would you recognize revenues associated with this type of catastrophe insurance contract? This case can be considered as premiums from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2 years. Another expense that can be considered for capitalization is advertising costs. Only advertising costs that are direct response advertising can be capitalized. Direct response advertising is advertising for which the primary purpose is to stimulate sales to customers or potential customers that have specifically responded to the advertising and it results in probable future benefits. Hence $20,000 cost of marketing efforts incurred over the past six months to promote Home Umbrella which is direct response advertising cost should be capitalized and amortized over the period of contract. 3. Broadly speaking, two major types of insured events could give rise to losses covered by insurance contracts: * Events that actuarial analysis could assess and predict with a high level of accuracy across a large number of contracts (for example, events covered by automobile insurance). * Catastrophes, which were generally adverse natural events such as earthquakes and hurricanes, but which could also be human induced events such as terrorist attacks. Catastrophes were considered low probability high consequence events. They were uncertain and very difficult to predict in terms of timing and extent of damage. For the coming year, the company had estimated that expected losses across all its automobile insurance contracts would amount to 70% of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This movie explores me to the real 13th century times that kings are the ruler of different nation. I was wondered while I watching the movie. I thought the feeling of being citizen of the kingdom or being the king during that time. What will I do to my invaders? I thought also to what I can contribute to my country if I am strong and brave? Should I follow the step of William? But all of this is just a dream. I can say that the movie is very well presented from the different scenes up to the sound effects they have exerted. • 5. Ambler Real House Scandal Facts: This is a dispute over zoning ordinance and whether it is infringing on the rights of property owners. The Village of Euclid (Euclid) is a municipal corporation in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. It is 12 14 square acres, most of which is farmland and unimproved acreage. Ambler Realty Co. (Ambler) owns 68 acres of land in the westerly edge of the village. A zoning ordinance was adopted by the Village of Euclid on November 13, 1922 which divided the village into multiple districts and specified exactly what type of buildings were to be built in each district, specifically the use of buildings and their height and FAR. Ambler s land spanned multiple districts of land and so Ambler s ability to construct buildings on its land was severely limited, per the zoning ordinance. Upper Extremity Robotic Analysis As of 2016, approximately 795,000 people have experienced a stroke, with an individual experiencing a stroke nearly every 40 seconds (Mozaffarian et al., 2016). The American Heart Association (2013) predicts that the number of individuals who will have a stroke will increase 20% by 2030. The increased prevalence of stroke may lead to serious issues in daily functioning for individuals; therefore, stroke interventions that address functional impairments are crucial. According to the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (2012), 60.7% of registered OTs provide rehabilitation services to individuals who had been diagnosed with a Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA). Thereby, she effectively rejects innocent Marner from his community and causes him to lose his fiancĂ©. However, I do not think that Silas Marner s endorsement of family values is nearly as straightforward as Nunokawa makes it out to be. In fact, Eliot s stance on the family unit is three pronged. Nunokawa s reduction of Silas Marner to a dichotomy ignores the middle ground that Eliot ultimately recommends as the key to a life with a happy ending. In order to demonstrate this, I must first show that none of the families in Silas Marner (with the exception of Silas own) are totally happy. In accord with Nunokawa, I will start with the uncomplicated melancholy of Squire Cass male only family. Eliot candidly tells her reader that Red House [the Squire s residence] was without the presence of the wife and mother which is the fountain of wholesome love and fear in parlour and kitchen (Eliot 22). Immediately, Eliot prepares her reader for an unhappy, incomplete group of inhabitants. The only scene between father and eldest son is both awkward and unkind, showing the attitude of life within the motherless house. The one scene in the novel between two brothers, Godfrey, the eldest, and his next younger brother, Dunsey, mocks the notion of brotherly love, depicting it as actually blackmail via brotherly knowledge (Eliot 24). The brother scene calls to mind the next well respected family in Raveloe, the Lammeters. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Conventionally, it is believed that newspapers have more readers than any other kind of written text. According to Van Dijk (1986), for most citizens, news is perhaps the type of written discourse with which they are confronted most frequently (p. 156). In the newspaper it is the headline that has the highest readership. It summarizes the content of a story, and entices an audience into reading the article. According to Ungerer (2000), a headline describes the essence of a complicated news story in a few words. It informs quickly and accurately and arouses the reader s curiosity (p. 48). Newspaper headlines are particularly important for the way readers comprehend a news text, they are markers that monitor attention, perception and the reading process (Van Dijk, 1988). The protagonist in Sarah Orne Jewett s A Country Doctor, Nan Prince, fights against these prejudices pertaining to the expected role of women in society1 with a calm and dignified demeanor. In Nan s pursuit of her career as a doctor, she encounters reasons for and against her decision from her personal history, religion, and the portrayal of her career and friends, but she overcomes all opinions and demonstrates the independence of women in society. Nan s instinct against submission to the male dominated society portrays itself early in her life, demonstrating the extent to which it is ingrained as a part of her being. From her earliest years, the townspeople in Oldfields remark that she is more a child of nature than of proper humanity (Donovan). • 24. Registered Nurse Personality Analysis Finding the best people to work in organizations has peaked over time due to many companies downsizing (Frankenfield, Kleiner, 2000). For this reason, most organizations are no longer exclusively relying on interviews in the screening process of new employees. The purpose of pre employment testing is to aid in predicting future behavior (Bloomquist, Kleiner, 2000). The use of employment testing has increased over time in order to find and hire the best employee. The information I plan to collect with this assessment is risky pattern behaviors and emotions that have the potential to prevent a potential job candidate from being effective in the workplace. Traits such as stress tolerance, initiative, and emotional stability are often measured with personality assessments in order to determine how successful an individual will be in the organization (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, 2015). This personality assessment will measure and identify performance risks centered on personality, and emotional habits related to the healthcare field in the pre hire stage for a Registered Nurse position. Furthermore, it will help to identify potential risky behaviors associated with tolerance, openness, stress, excitability, cautiousness, diligence, and boldness. This assessment will aid in identifying, if any, potential risky patterns that can possibly have a negative impact on their job effectiveness and relationships, and can bring potential harm to the patients, co workers, organization, etc. This will be done by analyzing the item responses to each statement and determining if the response could potentially be a risky behavior in the organization s climate and culture. • 25. Justice Is Justified By Plato s The Republic For centuries, people have been asking the question, what is justice? Although justice is not sincerely defined in Plato s The Republic, both Socrates and Thrasymachus enter into a deep discussion over what justice truly is. After Socrates disproves Cephalus and Polemarchus explanations of justice, Thrasymachus declares that justice is simply what is in the interest of the stronger party (338c). Furthermore, he debunks justice altogether, arguing that justice is the strong exploiting the weak and that the unjust lifestyle is better than the just lifestyle. The two elements that this paper will break down is Thrasymachus s idea of justice and how he thinks that being unjust is better than being just. Initially, Thrasymachus s sentiment of justice is simply what is in the interest of the stronger party (338c). This causes Socrates to question Thrasymachus on what Thrasymachus means when he says interest . Socrates wants Thrasymachus to simplify what he means by interest because everybody has different interests. For example, a bartender has the interest of making drinks to satisfy his customers, while a computer programmer has the interest of making programs to create advances in technology. As a result, Thrasymachus categorizes the interest limited to only rulers and answers Socrates s question that interest is what is right , each type of government enacts laws that are in its own interest, a democracy democratic laws, a tyranny tyrannical ones and so on; and in ... • 27. Analysis Of Lord Of The Flies Intro: Give title and author. Background. In Lord of the Flies by John Steinback a group of young boys are stranded on an island. To survive the boys decided to vote who should be their leader, Ralph or Jack. Piggy is a smart, fat boy who is not respected by the boys. Ralph is the face of leadership but not the best for the job compared to Piggy. Piggy is the brains behind Ralph who gives the essential idea to further progress the island. Ralph is the face of leadership and according to everyone but Piggy the best for the job. In this passage the boys are taking a vote on who should be the leader for the island. Vote for chief! Let s vote This toy of voting was almost as pleasing as the conch. Jack started to protest but the clamor changed from the general wish for a chief to an election by acclaim of Ralph himself. None of the boys could have found good reason for this; what intelligence had been shown was traceable to Piggy while the most obvious leader was Jack. But there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing balanced on his knees, was set apart. Him with the shell. Ralph! Ralph! Let him be chief with the trumpet thing. Ralph raised a hand for silence. All right. Who wants Jack for chief? With dreary obedience the choir raised their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Sound Of Upright String Bass Performance Upright string bass performance is an ever changing profession that has played a vital role to the history of the jazz ensemble. The bass has evolved more through jazz in the past one hundred years than since the instrument s conception in the 15th century. In early jazz bands, the bass had a simple and extremely conscientious style, which limited itself to furnishing fundamental harmonic tones. One of the greatest bass players in this style is Pops Foster, known for the extraordinary power and attack of his playing. Later on in the mid 20th century, bassists like Jimmy Blanton and Oscar Pettiford pushed the string bass into a new light where the instrument s unsuspected potential as a solo instrument would be realized. The bass also underwent a radical change from entirely acoustic to entirely electric which has changed modern music forever. Electric bassists like Stanley Clarke and Jaco Pastorius could now play many notes at once and utilize the fusion aspect of the music and the instrument. The role of the bass in jazz has been constantly undervalued and misunderstood. People often view the bass as a cumbersome instrument, or as expendable. The jazz ensemble without a bass is like a house without its foundation, unable to stand up without the structure it provides. Because the essential element in improvised jazz is the harmonic structure of the song, it is up to the bass to guide other instrumentalists through difficult chord changes and somehow string all of the notes ... Jurgis struggles are understandable, but there are many who have never had to experience what he has so it is harder to sympathize and compare oneself to that of a character with no similarities. However, this novel also teaches the hardships immigrants typically went through during their transitions, or their lives in general, in America while also providing the reader with healthy confusion. This novel establishes a sense of confusion, uneasiness, or worry while also making the reader feel pleasure or happiness. There are several instances in the novel where the reader experiences this healthy confusion while learning about the differences in lifestyles between the fortunate and those looking to have a new life but encounter conflicts. Most scenes in this novel are sad, but also have happiness buried deep within the text or meaning. In The Jungle, Jurgis struggles with his life in America and has trouble finding a job to support himself, his family, and pay off his debts, like the wedding. Zenawit Nerae Dr. Jennifer Patico Anth 4020 October 7, 2015 Midterm A Functionalism is simply defined as the idea that the purpose of everything we do is to support our society or ourselves. Many Anthropologists and sociologists are functionalists but for this essay I ll be focusing more on two of the most famous people who support this idea; Bronislaw Malinowski and Émile Durkheim. The two share differences and similarities in the approaches they take depending on the groups they studied. Durkheim, a French sociologist, who is one of the founders of sociology, claimed that meaningful human practices can be understood in sociological, biological and psychological terms. Though, He puts a clear understanding as to how sociological approach to studying human practices is a scientific discipline unique from biology and psychology in its own way. Durkheim explains his idea of sociological approach as it s own science in this methodology he calls a social fact. he defines this term as any way of acting which is general over the whole of a given society whilst having an existence of its own, independent of its individual manifestations. (Malinowski.59) To Durkheim, Social facts are ways of understanding a society that are abstract but real, external to all individuals, which exert coercive power over individuals beliefs by limiting the basic individuals forms of consciousness and behavior, and are also inevitable meaning if you are a member of the society you can t ... Specifically, I would like to focus my analysis on how and why the Nazis constructed a conception of motherhood that defined the mother in relation to the state. For our purposes today, we will examine two ideal German mothers and explore their similarities in order to understand how and why the Nazis perceived mothers as public agents of the Volksgemeinschaft, or German community of people. Primary documents will allow us to examine first hand experiences of mothers written within the context of Nazi Germany. But first, on must begin by understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mothers were supposed to demonstrate an absence of self identity and an abundance of devotion to children. Hitler, in his speech to the National Socialist Women s Section (NSF), intertwined the thems of nationalism and self sacrifice into one sentence. Hitler comments, What a man gives in courage on the battlefield, the woman gives in eternal self sacrifice, in eternal pain and suffering (HCC 278). Hitler makes motherhood into a nationalistic function by likening the mother to a soldier or an agent of the state, while simultaneously emphasizing the self sacrifice necessary to be an ideal German mother. Having explored how the Nazis construct their definition of motherhood, let s begin our examination of two ideal German mothers by using our primary documents. It is important for you to know that they were both ordinary mothers, living under the Nazi regime prior to 1938. Ultimately, it s going to take some detective work in an effort to enhance interpretation further. [pg. 6]. In the peak of the 20th century, concern over children s nutrition caused balanced meals to be provided to students during their lunch hour. Philadelphia began to serve lunches for one cent in 1894. Eventually their penny lunch program was extended to eight other schools throughout the city. In January 1910, schools in Boston began serving lunch to elementary school students three days a week. On the other days, a simple meal of milk and sandwiches was served. Since there was no lunchroom in the building, students would eat at their desks (Avey, 2015). At long last, the school lunch program was made official in 1946 when President Harry Truman signed the National School Lunch Act. The National School Lunch Act of 1946 states: It is hereby declared to be the policy of Congress, as a measure of national security, to safeguard the health and well being of the Nation s children and to encourage the domestic consumption of nutritious agricultural commodities and other food, by assisting the States, through grants in aid and other means, in providing an adequate supply of food and other facilities for the establishment, maintenance, operation and expansion of nonprofit school lunch programs (Avey, 2015).
