United States Healthcare
For US citizens covered by private health insurance, receiving treatment is not necessarily easy with
many insurance contracts containing terms and conditions excluding treatments which would be
covered under the NHS. This has led to scandals where individuals have died as a result of not
reading the fine print on their insurance contracts a massive 21% of claims in California are
rejected by private insurers. (Reuters 2011) The profit driven running of companies that are
essentially meant to provide coverage guaranteeing the maintenance of healthhas seen managers
receiving salaries exceeding 13 million dollars compared with the NHS s top salary of less than
half a million US. Not covering an individual for expensive treatment thus saves... Show more

Not being able to access healthcare or not receiving healthcare to the required degree leaves patients
in the worst possible state and so unless individuals have the fortune of having private health
insurance, they face degrading conditions amounting to a violation 10of one of the fundamental
human rights that is good health. The higher infant mortality for US citizens as well as an
average lifespan that is on average an entire year less than that of UK citizens is a testament to the
shortcomings patients face under the US system. The disparity between the wealthy (who can
afford high quality healthcare) and the uninsured/poor (who cannot) is vast the average lifespan
of 78.1 is the average of long living privately insured individuals and shorter lived uninsured/poor
individuals. For doctors, the US healthcare system does not provide practitioners with the legal
backing that NHS doctors receive, and oftentimes doctors face lawsuits if their work is not
meticulous. This ever present threat of litigation often causes an overenthusiastic approach towards
surgery or over prescription of pharmaceuticals so as not to be accused of negligence. The
extensive paperwork US doctors must file in order to receive payment from insurance companies

Everyone Focused On Zuckerberg s Hoodie
Designer clothing, luxury cars, flashy handbags. These are just a few of the status symbols that
differentiate the rich from the poor. These items are often used to determine the who s who in
today s society by showing off wealth and status. Although others should not be based solely on
their income, this judgement is sadly commonplace. The rich and the poor are segregated both
by accident and on purpose in many situations and the lower class is the one that deals with the
brunt of that discrimination. As the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, the upper class loses
familiarity with the problems that typical Americans face (Palacios). Two articles that highlight
this issue are Why is Everyone Focused on Zuckerberg s Hoodie by Somini Sengupta and The
Logic of Stupid Poor People by Tressie McMillan Cottom. In Sengupta s article she discusses the
simple, yet iconic hoodie often worn by Mark Zuckerberg and why it is so much more than it
seems. She goes into the many theories why he may wear it and has a twist ending by alluding it to
the shooting of Trayvon Martin (230). In Cottom s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout her writing, she uses very casual language that helps make her seem more
personable and relatable to the reader. Some examples of this is when she explains that
Respectability rewards are a crap shoot (1013) or when she starts the essay by declaring We
hates us some poor people (1011). By using casual language and slang speech such as this, it
makes Cottom seem like any normal, everyday person you would have a conversation with at the
mall or in line at the grocery store. The realism portrayed by her speech is an effective way of
communicating her story of growing up in a poor family. Although in many parts of her essay she
does use advanced and technical vocabulary, the intermittent casual talk really helps keep the
audience focused on the issue at

Comparing the Movies Wall Street and Boiler Room Essay
Comparing the Movies Wall Street and Boiler Room
Profit, profit and more profit the golden pillars of capitalism. In the movies Wall Street and Boiler
Room this is the ideology that the characters uphold. While, there are many variances in the two
movies, the basic aim of both lead characters i.e. Gordan Gekko (WallStreet) and Seth Davis
(Boiler Room) is to make money. Both men are stockbrokers who deal in high finance in the
exclusive world of Wall Street. However, with both movies are set in different decades the way
they go about doing so differs.
Wall Street is set in the roaring eighties a decade that has become synonymous with greed, the so
called era of plenty. With an economy just recovering from recession,... Show more content on

Boiler Room on the other hand, is in set in the more familiar nineties. Overall, this decade was one
of prosperity, hard work and a significant rise in the standards of living for people all over the
USA. The attitude of the decade seemed to be work hard, play hard and all the rest will follow.
Wealth was seen as something that was easily accessible to all those who wanted it it was simply
a matter of getting it. There is easy money to be made in start ups and dot coms. Young people can
be millionaires before they even hit their twenties. People like Sabeer Bhatia of Hotmail fame have
set the standards.
Both movies however, are undeniably focused on capitalism and the making, controlling and of
course spending of money. As we see in both movies, it is made by sometimes unlawful means, and
controlled by these same unethical people. The occurrence of these immense amounts of wealth is
advertised by the spending of the main characters in the films. Expensive restaurants, expensive
hotels, expensive homes, expensive paintings, state of the art technology (think Gordan Gekko s
cool cellular phone which at that time was perhaps the height of technology!), expensive suits and
so on are symbols of this wealth.
In the movie Wall Street , we also see a little bit of control exercised over the blatant capitalism.
This is in the form of trade

China s Recent Urban Planning
Study Context and Data Sources
2.1 Beijing s Recent Urban Planning
Beijing is the capital of China and one of the most populous cities in the world. The current
population as of 2014 was over 21 million. The area of Beijing Metropolitan Area (BMA) is
16,410 square kilometers. According to land use dataset of Beijing Institute of City Planning, the
total urban area as of 2012 was 1,675 square kilometers. The BMA currently comprises 16
administrative subdivisions, as presented in Figure 1.
Figure 1 The Beijing Metropolitan Area Since the latest administrative boundary adjustment of
Beijing in 1958, there have been five urban master plans drafted in 1958, 1973, 1982, 1992 and
2004. Each master plan was associated with a planned overall land use map. Individual land parcels
in the map were assigned with a land classification of either urban (residential, commercial,
industrial, public green land, and mixed use land) or non urban (farmland, forestland, and wetland)
(Long, Gu, Han, 2012). The maps guide the future urban development, and actual land uses should
conform to the land classification plan.
Since the beginning of the 1990s, the BMA has experienced an unprecedented increase in
population growth and urban development. By the year 2003, Beijing s population and urban
built up area had already surpassed the capacity set forth in the 1992 2010 Master Plan, seven
years ahead of the plan s scheduled expiration date. To address new challenges and plan for greater

History / Origins According to the company s website, ConocoPhillips can have its origins traced
back to 1875, with the Conoco founder Isaac E. Blake having the idea to have kerosene available to
the public in an affordable way, in the Ogden, Utah region. In the early twentieth century, the
Phillips brothers began drilling with great success. After both companies were strong individual
success, they formed a merger ConocoPhillips, with the strengths of oil and gas that merged in
2002 to form a partnership. Being a strong competitor in the industry, the main competitors include
the likes of BP, ExxonMobil, etc. Although new competition is quite unlikely, ConocoPhillips must
be quite cautious in terms of price sensitivity and integration. The reasoning behind this is the
extreme competitive nature of the industry, and the minute differences between the top tiers of
competition. The years leading up to the formation of ConocoPhillips were marked by moments of
triumph and challenges. Several of these moments highlighted both Conoco and Phillips pioneering
spirits. Phillips led the path in innovation by becoming the first company to develop and market
propane for home heating and cooking, building the first long distance multi product pipeline and
inventing a process to make high octane gasoline possible. Conoco used its pioneering spirit to

Organisational Structure

5.1 Organisational structure
The organisational structure of a company reflects its culture, its management style and its leader
attitude in addition to the environment in which it has to operate. Without giving a full description
of the two airlines structure it is worth saying that British Airways and Virgin Airlines mainly differ
in two aspects: size and culture. Both companies have a structure which is mostly dictated by
operational needs characteristic to every airline. British Airways has a more formalised structure
with precise rules and procedures, due to its size and the global scope of its activity. A major
change in the last years has been the reduction of its management layers, between the chief ... Show

The reason for BA s success lies in the radical change of its culture undertaken in the 80 s and
which is still going on, as Mr. Ayling stated recently. BA managed in the 80 s to change from the
airline of last resort to the world s favourite carrier. The airline was grossly overmanned,
unpunctual and strike prone, with a very special disdain for passengers. It needed a coherent
philosophy on how the customer can best be served. Most of the change has been prompted by a
marketing orientation. Customers have been posed at the centre of the attention and individuals
have been empowered to take initiative. It learned to respond to customers requirements and co act
on individuals initiatives. Ayling is now concerned about how to remove the last vestiges of
bureaucracy.
A customer oriented culture is vary important for an airline. Its reputation relies mostly on

Jeremy Bentham Principles Of Utilitarianism
Jeremy Bentham was born in Houndsditch, London on 15 February 1748. He was the eldest son of
Alicia Whitehorn, nГ©e Grove, who on 3 October 1745 had entered into he second marriage with
Jeremiah Bentham, a successful practitioner in the Court of Chancery. Six further children were
born, of whom only the youngest, Samuel, born in 1757, survived beyond infancy. Death was
never far away and on 6 January 1759, when Jeremy was ten years old, he lost his mother. By
1755 he was considered robust enough to go to Westminster School. It was in 1769 that Bentham
found a purpose for his life. All the pieces of the jigsaw suddenly came into place. His later
reflections on this period of his life reveal an exposure to a very different literature from the ... Show

Bentham brought together various elements from these thinkers to construct his version of the
principle of UTILITY.
UTILITARIANISM:
Jeremy Bentham was a leading theorist in Anglo American philosophy of law and one of the
founders of utilitarianism. He developed this idea of a utility and a utilitarian calculus in the
Introduction to the
Principles of Morals and Legislation (1781).In the beginning of that work Bentham wrote: Nature
has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign masters, pain and pleasure. It is for
them alone to point out what we ought to do, as well as to determine what we shall do. On the one
hand the standard of right and wrong, on the other the chain of causes and effects, are fastened to
their throne.
They govern us in all we do, in all we say, in all we think: every effort we can make to throw off
our subjection, will serve but to demonstrate and confirm it.
Bentham believed that pain and pleasure not only explain our actions but also help us define what
is good and moral. He believed that this foundation could provide a basis for social, legal, and
moral reform in society. To determine whether an action is moral you merely have to calculate the

Pros And Cons Of President Hoover s New Deal
Economics can be defined as the study of the efficient allocation of scarce resources. Scarcity, a
basic concept of economics, states that society has an insufficient amount of productive resources
to fill all human wants and needs. The federal government fits into all of this by guiding the
overall pace of economic activity. They attempt to do so by to maintaining a steady economic
growth, high levels of employment, and price stability. How they carry these actions out, however,
depends on which economic model they decide to follow. The two major approaches to economic
policies are the Keynesian and Classical views. Although both of these economic theories have their
pro s and con s, ultimately, government should opt for the Classical school... Show more content on

Say s Law is an economic rule that claims supply creates its own demand. Ironically, Adam Smith
and John Keynes, despite having been born almost two centuries apart, had conflicting ideas
surrounding Say s Law. Adam Smith s Classical supporters agreed with Say s Law and strongly
upheld that in a free market, workers would always be willing to lower their wages to a level
where employers could profitably offer them jobs (Armstrong Economics). This declaration would
have remained true if unionization had not come to rise. Unions are recognized as organized
associations of workers formed to protect and further worker rights and interests. Because of unions,
Keynes argued that workers would not allow their wages to be lowered. Furthermore, in his General
Theory, Keynes proposed that demand was the key to unlocking economic prosperity, not supply.
Therefore, Keynes called for an activist economic role for government to stimulate demand in times
of high unemployment while ignoring

Who Killed the Electric Car

Who killed the electric car ? Environmental issues
Who Killed the Electric Car is a documentary which unfolds a complex set of events around the
development and demise of the modern electric car. The story stems from California from the
early 1990s to 2006. Everything begins to unfold with a brief history of the first electric cars
created in the early twentieth century. These electric vehicles were killed off nearly 100 years ago
as gas/petroleum powered internal combustion engine cars became cheaper. The worsening
problems of gas/petrol cars are illustrated: smog, high child asthma rates, CO2 emissions ... Show

EVs are less polluting even if the electricity comes from coal fired power plants. Furthermore, the
emissions of coal fired power plants can be controlled and regulated in ways not possible for
vehicles, as the number power plants is miniscule compared to the number of gas powered
vehicles. The car companies also argued that they would not be able to technically and financially
meet the requirements of the ZEV Mandate. Car and oil companies joined the Federal Government
to sue the State of California and overturn the ZEV Mandate.
Federal Government and oil companies put forward hydrogen fuel cells as a better alternative to
gas and battery electric cars. In contrast, interviews with two hydrogen experts gave details why
fuel cell vehicles are not likely to be available for another 15 20 years if ever, whereas battery
electric technology is available now, has been rapidly improving since the mid 1990s and is cost
effective.
In 1999, having won some initial concessions in the Mandate, US automakers started shutting
down their EV programs. GM bought the rights to manufacture the Hummer, as they saw it would
make them money. In 2002 the maximum Federal tax credit for an EV was $4000. In 2003 the
same tax credit for a 6000+ lbs vehicle was $100,000. Of course, many members of the US Federal
Government Bush Administration were

Best Strozog Films
Review of Strozsek What an incredible movie! This may be one of the best Herzog films.
Normally his films focus on more grand elements, conquests and feats of strength. This film,
however, is about the mundane aspects of life. The fascinating thing about it is how Herzog
manages to blend the mundane and epic together into a cohesive whole. Shots like the removal
of Bruno s house carry the same epic weight of Aguirre, yet they are normal everyday things. The
first aspect that struck home is the acting. Bruno Schleinstein is incredible. He is funny and tragic
simultaneously. He contorts his face in ways that perfectly describe his character emotion and
aren t found anywhere else. There have been a lot of loveable failures in cinema, but Bruno is one
of a kind. After reading about the actor s life, the performance is even more of a feat. He s

The Chet Atkins score is incredible and the harmonica track is excellently executed. Unlike the
Aguirre soundtrack, this takes on the environment much more. The earlier music that Bruno
performs is very German sounding, while the later non diegetic music is very American
sounding. It establishes the environment, as well as some subtle cultural differences. Also, the
diegetic music was excellent in the way it characterized the people. Bruno s performances alone
are half the reason he is so magic as a character. He isn t quite perfect; in fact, he makes a lot of
mistakes. His pacing is sometimes believed to be inconsistent and there is somewhat of a loss to
natural flow; However, as he says in the movie, it s better to have a broken piano than none at all.
Another wonderful moment is when the old man plays Moonlight Sonata. A very strange and
entrancing clip. Herzog may be shooting very normal things, but he still has an eye for an

Impact of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act on Copyright Enforcement and Fair Use
Jean Paul Muyshondt
University of North Carolina Wilmington
Abstract
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 has changed the focus of copyright enforcement
away from the act of copyright infringement and toward the act of circumvention of the
technologies used to protect the rights of digital media owners. Additionally, the act has had
adverse effects that outweigh the benefits that it provides.
Key Words: copyright, DMCA, DRM, ethics, fair use, legal/societal impact.
1. Introduction
Prior to the 1990s, United States copyright legislation, like the media that it protected, had remained
relatively unchanged. The advancement of digital technologies, specifically the advent of the
Internet and the increasing ability to easily exchange digital media, prompted a change in copyright
law. This change came in the form of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). The act
extends the protections given to copyright holders. In order to provide this additional protection,
the DMCA also has adverse effects. This paper will explore copyright law in the United States and
discuss the positive and negative effects of the DMCA, as well as some of the ethical implications
associated with it.
2. Background
2.1. Copyright law prior to 1998 and the need for change
Copyright laws in the United States can trace their roots to the Constitution, where Congress was

The parents reported that their child s pre and post natal development was normal without illness or
injury. However, as an infant/toddler, he had been difficult to soothe when upset and demanded
constant attention which his parents found difficult to manage.
Twelve months before attending the agency the client began to demonstrate increasing levels of
anxiety. This anxiety commenced with significant difficulties being separated from his mother or
father at home, to go to school, stay with family and play with friends. The parents said the client s
behaviours included clinging on to them and chasing after them as they were leaving the house or
school. He would also check their location in the house to confirm that they were still there. On
occasion his behaviour deteriorated into tantrums, although this only happened at home. The
parents also expressed concern that the boy s teacher noticed he was refusing to eat at school. The
parents also reported their child was unable to get to sleep without their presence. He would awaken
with nightmares at least three times a week saying he was frightened something bad was happening
to them. The parents stated that it was becoming increasingly difficult for them to manage their son

Communities can be found everywhere and can be created anywhere. You may be unaware of it,
but you are part of a community not only based on your location, but also based on your lifestyle,

Observing others behaviors lets one realize and understand more about different types and kinds of
people. Seeing how certain groups or communities act or react to situations lets us see more
perspective and hopefully appreciate their point of view. It is important to be part of communities
for much of the same reason. When you are part of a group, you understand and compromise with
the other members of the group. Discussing issues involving the community helps to lead to
solutions. Talking things through with other members improves social skills as well as
relationships. Knowing how people feel about certain issues let you know more about that person,
and in turn, you learn more about yourself. Hearing what other people have to say may sway your
own opinions about something. For example, maybe you are part of a church you thought you
really believed in, but hearing the discussions at the church meetings you start to think that you do
not belong in this community. Though that specific church may be the right place for many, you
learn that you need a new church community. Churches are communities because the members are
unified in their common beliefs. These communities are like families because the members support
and help each other religiously and they feel secure. Being a sound part of a community, you
should continuously learn more and more about yourself. As a member of a club, taking part in
meetings and activities let you learn

Five Principles Of Tragedy
Discuss the principles of tragedy as defined in Aristotle s Poetics. Illustrate these principles by
examining Sophocles play Oedipus the King, in order to establish the link between the theory and
practise of tragedy. Analyse the genre of tragedy as one that reveals dilemma and paradox.
The advent of modern theater as we know it today began with the worship of Dionysus: the god of
the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness, fertility, theater and religious ecstasy in
Greek mythology and a weeklong competition that welcomed the Spring in ancient Greece. Many
great playwrights were introduced to the World by the means of this weeklong competition
including Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. Sophocles is perhaps one of the pioneers of the
genre of tragedy and his plays Oedipus Rex, Antigone and Oedipus at Colonus have for centuries
inspired contemporary playwrights and theater artists to venture deeper into the understanding of
the complex idea of the individual versus fate. In this essay I intend to examine Aristotle s Poetics
and the five principles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Oedipus, Sophocles creates a character who s not only the king but, also the solver of the
Sphinx s riddle and hence, can be recognised as a man portrayed better than he would ve been in
real life: a man with an intricately defined moral compass and elevated social stature. Further
examples of Oedipus as an ideal tragic hero can be derived out of the fact that he comes from a
noble and prosperous background as he s the biological son of the Laius, king of Thebes and the
adopted son of Polybus, the king of Corinth. He also is greatly revered in the society and
respected as a very adept and benevolent king which is evident from the Priest s reference to him
as the first of men. Oedipus is also greatly worried by the Pestilence that haunts the city of Thebes
and says the following in that

smoking is bad for your health when you start smoking and you know it is hard to quit so why
do people even start smoking in the first place? This article captured my interest because I work

their motivation was to smoke. I have also always wondered if there were certain triggers that

What actions should Chase take as a result of the September operating results?

American Beauty Film Analysis
American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes and written by Alan Ball, explores the Burningham
family s projection of a perfectly normal lifestyle or the ideal American family portrayal. This
film is about how everything is not as it seems behind closed doors. As the storyline progresses
the film adheres to multiple genre codes and conventions to deepen the story arc, this is known as
Genre Hybridity as it refers to two or more established genre s through storyline, etc. (REF TO
TEXTBOOK) American Beauty is a hybrid genre text because it conforms to more than one genre
this being romance, satire and dramathrough formal elements such as narrative and screen
aesthetic. This can also be further proved by examples of single/hybrid genre texts like The
Notebook (2004, Nick Cassavetes), Fight Club (1999, David Fincher) and Bold and the Beautiful
(1987 , William J Bell). http://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/1213628.pdf?acceptTC=true Many major
box office hits in today s day an age contain comedy, witty one liner s, major plot twists but mostly
romance. The romance genre has become a booming success in the filmindustry as of late 2000 s.
(REF) The genre is difficult to define but can be described as the development of lovebetween
characters as a main narrative (REF). This can be shown by the massive success of the iconic film,
The Notebook grossing in at $115, 603, 229 worldwide. (REF) The film is set around two characters
falling in love, therefore falling under the romance genre. One of the conventions of a romance film
is forbidden love, this is shown throughout the Notebook between the two main protagonists and is
also shown in the movie American Beauty. In American Beauty the protagonist, Lester Burnham
(Kevin Spacey) becomes infatuated with his daughter s best friend, Angela Hayes (Mena Suvari)
this creates tension between the characters as Angela continuously entices Mr. Burnham whilst
knowing they can never be together due to the age gap and because of his daughter, it is more of an
unnatainable lust, therefore conforming to the forbidden love narrative contained within most
romantic films. Another aspect of the romance genre is tragedy. Throughout Shakespeare s works
all love ends in heartache, there are

Mortal Man Defeats the ferocious Minotaur
Theseus saves citizens of Crete from the Minotaur
Rashi Gupta
04.13.1370 B.C.
On Friday the 13th, 1370 B.C., the heroic Theseus went on a quest to find his father, Aegeus. Once
Theseus found his father,he heard about this barbarous beast, the Minotaur, half man, half bull, who
lived in Crete. Theseus bravely entered the Cretan Labyrinth and defeated the great Minotaur by
using only his bare hands.
Theseus is a youthful mortal who wanted only, but to know who his father is, so he inquired his
mother, Aethra. Aethra had responded saying that his father was Aegeus, king of Athens, but the
heart of Aethra truly belonged to the great Poseidon, god of the deep blue sea. Aethra bestowed a
sharp, deadly, cold sword and a pair of sandals upon Theseus and she said, Take them to him, and

The Early Years Learning Framework For Australia
The Early Years Learning framework for Australia Document is important to have in our
Schools; as it talks about how Children are confident and involved learners, we need our student

This means more creativity from students and their individuality to reveal and explore more.

The Importance Of Mental Strength In The Novel Night
Mental Strength is the most valuable strength in a survival situation because it can not be lost or
taken away from someone. According to Caroline Alexander s article The Voyage of the James
Caird the crew of the James Caird needed mental strength to survive the dangerous journey. In the
article she writes Worsley, despite the rank discomfort, was in his element. He was conscious of
being in the midst of a great adventure which had been his life s ambition (Alexander 185). Here it
is shown that despite the physical challenges Worsley was still able to maintain his mental strength
which kept him going. Similar to the crew of the James Caird Sherpas that climb Mt. Everest to
transport goods also need mental strength to make it through their job. In the article The Value of
the Sherpa Life by Grayson Schaffer it states And perhaps most significantly, the amount of time
that Sherpas spend making laps through the deadly Khumbu Icefalland up the Lhotse Face

which kept them going was maintained. Similar to the Sherpas of Mt. Everest and the crew of the
James Caird in Elie Wiesels memoir Night he needed mental strength to survive in the
concentration camps of World War II. In the book it says An icy wind was blowing violently. But

Causes Of Learned Helplessness
Learned helplessness is approximately seen as cognitive individual variables that mirrors the
habitual manner where students exhibit the causes of bad events that occur them (Peterson Barrett,

because of the bad events that students face which are internal against externality, stability against

even though they can harm them in many ways. Hence, I believe that children s diets should be
regulated because aside from helping the medicine go down, sugar and unhealthy foods can
cause serious health problems, whereas healthy diets can better one s lifestyle. First and
foremost, children s diets should be regulated since a plethora of foods that kids eat can cause
serious health problems. Initially, children who eat unhealthy foods such as pizza to an extreme

Opponents of regulating children s diets may say that it is allowable to have children eat all
kinds of foods since eating certain unhealthy foods like sweets are a part of enjoying life as a
kid. Although a good point is brought up, there are many other healthy alternatives that are
enjoyable for children and can satisfy one s sugary cravings. As an illustration, many fruits such
as strawberries, blueberries, and bananas can be made into delicious fruit smoothies that are
healthy and enjoyable. Some may also argue that kids are able to control their choices, and they
know which choices are healthy and unhealthy. Still studies have shown that unhealthy foods like
sugar are more addicting than cocaine. In fact, in the documentary Fed Up, scientists showed that
43 cocaine addicted rats were given the choice between cocaine water and sugar water. 40 out of
the 43 chose the sugar water and showed signs of addiction. This justifies that having children
choose between sweets and healthy foods would be an extremely difficult task for candy crazed
kids. So, children would be better off with healthy foods in their diets. In conclusion, regulating
children s diets is very beneficial to children in many

The Medical Benefits Of Medical Marijuana
As of April 2017, 29 states in the United States have legalized medical marijuana. That now makes
58% of the 50 states that have recognized the medical benefits that marijuana can provide.
Marijuana should be legalized in all states for health purposes because it can reduce seizure
activity for those with epilepsy, provide better long term relief to people that have chronic pain
(stemming from a variety of health issues) versus the use of opioids, and has been effective in not
only treating the symptoms and side effects of cancer, but in killing cancer cells in preclinical trials
as well.
Marijuana, in a medical form, can reduce seizure activity in people with epilepsy, especially when
all other forms of treatment have been exhausted. One such case was with a girl by the name of
Charlotte Figi, who first started having seizures at 3 months old, and by the time she was 5 was
having 300 seizures each week. When the hospital told the parents there was nothing more they
could do for Charlotte, they turned to medical marijuana. After working with doctors to find the
correct dosage of cannabis oil that was needed, Charlotte, at the age of 6, was only having two to
three seizures per month (Young, Marijuana Stops Child s Seizures, CNN.com). Additionally, while
the personal stories of those who have seen a reduction in the number of seizures that occur from
the use of medical marijuana are more prevalent than that of published studies by doctors, these
studies do exist and show

Religious Tolerance In The Film Knocking
We watched the film Knocking in class, it was based on Jehovah s Witness experiences and it
demonstrated to us some of the challenges they face day to day. New religious movements such
as Jehovah s Witnesses face religious tolerance from everyone around them even those in their
family. Religious Tolerance can be defined as allowing people to believe or practice which ever
religionthey choose. If there is a country with a State religion then religious tolerance will allow
other religions to be there.
In the film particularly, religious tolerance was portrayed by family, friends, and hospitals. There
was the Mother that didn t agree with her son s choice to become a Jehovah s witness because of
how the religion isolates them from other family during holidays, birthdays and such gatherings.
There was the family of Seth Thomas, the young 23 year old who needed the liver transplant but he
had difficulty getting the hospital to do it with no blood. Some hospitals even turned him down.
Jehovah s witnesses are not allowed to take blood out or put blood into the body, but that doesn t
mean this young man should have to die due to his beliefs. His mother was a dedicated Jehovah s

His main motivations are ideology, social base and economic stimulus.
Putin has long upheld a KGB style Cold War mentality mixed with Conservatism of Russian
thinkers from early twentieth century such as Berdyaev, Solovyov and Ilyin. All of these thinkers,
in one way or another, were patriots as well as socialists and wanted Russia to be independent from
any western ideas which they claimed were manipulative in a sense that, western ideas would
shape rest of the world for their own interests. The mixture of ideas presented by these thinkers is
exactly what Putin needs to unite the legacies of both the Russian and Soviet empires into a solid
path dependant ideology. This ideology roughly says that Western countries spread some liberal and
deleterious ideas essentially hostile to Russia s tradition, and deliberately aims to destroy Russia s
historically unique culture that combines autocracy, orthodoxy and Slavic brotherhood. For this
reason, Putin has no other choice but to protect the historical Russian borders from such civilization
challenge.
Putin has retained his thug image from his time in Leningrad. This thug image still shows today
through his vocabulary, the criminal bureaucratic system he built in Russia and his bold aggressive
behavior on the international stage. Putin has gained a lot of support from presenting himself in
this way, albeit mainly from the middle class and Russian elites. His

Social Representation Of Dracula
The legend of the vampire has emerged countless times within human imagination over the past few
centuries. The first available representation of the mythical creature in prose fiction can be found in
John Polidori s The Vampyre (1810). It was not until eight decades later that Bram Stoker
popularized the existence of this figure with the publication of Draculain 1897. The folklore of the
vampirehas come a long way since and can be found in today s popular media more frequently
than ever before. However, with due course of time, the representation of the creature has taken
alternate routes and today s vampires are noticeable different socially and physically from their

Punter and Byron reinforce this claim by stating that, Dracula is associated with disruption and
transgression of accepted limits and boundaries (231). It is relevant to consider the aggressive
behavior of Dracula towards his victims while he is on the prowl to fulfill his thirst for blood,
especially with Lucy and Reinfield and the image of female vampires feeding on young children
(Lucy). This bolsters the notion that the depiction of vampires in early portrays was violent.
Also, as a sexually powerful creature, he preyed on men and women to fulfill his desires. The
sexual representation of vampires is also evident from Ernest Jones early analysis of folktales,
including the vampire. He proceeded to conclude that vampire s and their counterparts, namely the
Churel (India) and the Drud (vampires that prey exclusively on other vampires), do not confine
themselves to sucking blood; rather in the unconscious mind, blood is commonly associated with
semen (106). It would be inaccurate to associate these references to anything but the erotic nature
of older folktales. Even in Dracula, the Count is portrayed as a seductive aristocrat who sucks on
the blood of men and women, alike. The homosexual aspect of vampire tales is also apparent in
Carmilla (Joseph le Fanu 1872). As pointed out by Punter and Byron, Laura experiences intense
erotic advances from the female vampire, to the extent of being puzzled

Real estate deals not only with the architectural design and infrastructure of a building but also with
its finance and potentiality. It is an area that is highly influenced by the population density, income
generation and tastes of the people and economic growth of a country under different period of time.
Real Estate Finance System in Bangladesh:
The housing finance sector in Bangladesh is both underdeveloped and highly segregated.
Private construction finance:
The predominant way of financing is through landowner and developer self finance, e.g., by selling
part of the land parcel or other land and subscribing the housing development fully before
construction starts. Buyers of individual units in multifamily apartments have to put down a 25 or
more percent advance and the unit has to be paid for in a few large installments before the house is
completed. This type of financing arrangement is difficult for all but the highest income groups in
the absence of mortgage financing.
Public construction finance:
After the failed attempt to stimulate BHBFC to lend for lower cost housing developments the
Prime Minister‟s Office recently established a Housing Fund called the Grihayan Project, which
provides low cost funds to NGOs and public sector developers for the construction of low to
moderate income housing schemes. The Housing Fund is administered by an inter ministerial
committee of 17 members and includes one NGO

The Wars by Timothy Findley Essay
The Inherent Evil of Humankind Joseph Conrad once observed that a belief in a supernatural
source of evil is not necessary; men alone are quite capable of every wickedness. As a result of
the violence that is necessary during wartime, soldiers are permitted to engage in savage behavior
that is normally forbidden in society. In The Wars by Timothy Findley, however, soldiers act in
violent ways even when they are not actively engaged in battle. The inherently savage nature of
humankind is evident when Robert Ross kills the German soldier after the gas attack, when Robert
is raped in the baths, and when Robert kills Captain Leather. These violent events that occur outside
the direct action of the wardemonstrate the evil inherent in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Despite the fact that the German has let the rest of the soldiers escape unharmed, Robert s innate
violence triggers the death of an innocent soldier. Thus, Robert s actions reveal the inherent savage
nature of humankind. Not only does Robert s killing of the German soldier expose humanity s
inherent savagery, but his fellow soldiers brutal rape of Robert also shows the brutal nature of
humankind. After his shower, Robert senses a human presence in his cell and he was spun around
in the dark so many times he lost all sense of gravity.
Then he was lowered onto his back and held there by someone who was lying underneath him.
His legs were forced apart so far he thought they were going to be broken. Mouths began to suck at
his privates. Hands and fingers probed and poked at every part of his body. Someone struck him in
the face. (192)
Robert is ferociously raped and handled roughly in the darkness by the unknown males, and he
describes that he is spun around in the dark. The confusion that he faces causes him to lose all
sense of gravity, which emphasizes the intensity of this violent act. The severity of the rape scene
is once again emphasized when Robert elucidates that his legs are forced apart so far he thought
they were going to be broken and he is struck [...] in the face. The rapists do not merely rape
Robert; they viciously attack and beat him as well. After the

Define Community Analysis
Community, what is community? How would you define it? Community can be defined as a
geographic location in a way that a group of individuals live in the same area like a
neighborhood, a city, a district, a town, or a country. In simplest terms, it is where you live.
However, individuals can also feel a sense of communitythrough the place where they grew up or
where they often go and visit. It can also be a group of individuals who have certain characteristics
in common such as religion, race or ethnicity, culture, beliefs, professional and economic ties,
interests, and more. Individuals refer themselves to particular attributes or affinities (what
individuals like to do). For example, individuals say I belong to an Asian community or I belong to
an art community. As such, community bestows one a sense of identity (who people... Show more

Even though individuals are different and unique from each other, they all come to one because of
that one particular shared interest.
For me, community is bigger than that. I believe that community is diversity, kinship, unity,
identity, cooperation, passion, similarity, strength, motivation, and guidance. The word community
does not only limit itself to a group of individuals who have shared characteristics, interests, and
experiences, but it also goes beyond the idea of a group of diverse individuals coming together.
These are individuals who have different ethnicities, race, religion, culture, traditions, and so forth.
Within a community is where one develops relationships with other people over time by means of
interacting and communicating regularly, whether it would be in person or online. Thus, a better
understanding of the surroundings and in greater span, the world, is formed. Community is where
it starts. Differences are set aside. It is a place where everyone works together to make their
community a better place or a harmonious place to dwell. Everyone contributes whatever

Buchi Emecheta Themes
Buchi Emecheta is one of the African writers who tremendously portrayed the issues that are
related to mainstream African women s experience. Many of his poems throw light on the plight
of women in African cultures and she uses characterisation and theme as tools to develop her
heroines. The scarcity of female novelists stands as a reason for the male writers and critics of
African literature to lack the feminine point of view for over a long period of time. In every parts
of the world, the institution of marriageis being practiced and it plays an important role in traditional
African society. Even today in many literatures, especially in African literature, women are being
represented largely within the traditional milieu. In some African... Show more content on

Usually for the further descendants of the groom s family, the bride and groom marry and their
duty is to procreate. In African custom of marriage, the groom has to pay in terms of money or
properties to the bride s family. In Africa, bride price is one of the widely practiced social
customs of Africa within the marriage institution wherein the prospective groom has to pay in
terms of money or properties to the bride s family. Bride price is paid commonly in the form of
money however, other items such as cowries , yams , farmlands , palm wines animals like goats
, cows etc. are also given. The bride dies in childbirth, if the bride price is not paid and it is
commonly believed by all the people of Africa no matter how modern the society has become. Male
writers emerged from African by glorifying women and present them with recognition and self
respect. As for instance Chinua Achebes Things Fall Apart, the protagonist Okonkwo seeks
comfort and spends the seven years exile in his mother s native village Mbanta. The novel explains
that in African society the Earth is considered as a mother and also portrays the tradition to pacify
the Earth Goddess. Such representation of women as Goddess and Mothers are reflected in the
writings of African women. Being a writer of male dominated society Buchi Emecheta writes about
the difficult situation of African women in

My Health Behavior Change Project Essay
Running head: BEHAVIOR CHANGE 1 My Health Behavior Change Project UNKNOWN
AUTHOR EXAMPLE Palm Beach State College Honors College BEHAVIOR CHANGE 2
Abstract This health behavior change project focuses on expanding my consumption of all food
groups, primarily vegetables and seafood. Based on a week log of my current eating habits,
using super tracker, I am consuming below recommended intakes in all my food groups, the
worst being my primary objectives (vegetables, and seafood) with near 0 grams of ingestion.
This can lead to many deficiencies and diseases, like malnutrition according to Michelle
McGuire, and Kathy Beerman (2006) in their book Nutritional Sciences: From Fundamentals to
Food (p. 30). Based on the theory of transtheoretical model of behavior change, I am in the
contemplation phase (Choosing Health, 2012, by April Lynch, Barry Elmore, and Tanya
Morgan). With advice from Mrs. Ciucci, a Palm Beach State College health instructor, I am
finally ready to make a S.M.A.R.T goal based on my preferences. Using planned out strategies, I
hope to make some degree of change by the end of this year and impact my dimensions of wellness
for the better. Keywords: Behavior change, nutrients, vegetables, seafood BEHAVIOR CHANGE 3

  • 3. Everyone Focused On Zuckerberg s Hoodie Designer clothing, luxury cars, flashy handbags. These are just a few of the status symbols that differentiate the rich from the poor. These items are often used to determine the who s who in today s society by showing off wealth and status. Although others should not be based solely on their income, this judgement is sadly commonplace. The rich and the poor are segregated both by accident and on purpose in many situations and the lower class is the one that deals with the brunt of that discrimination. As the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, the upper class loses familiarity with the problems that typical Americans face (Palacios). Two articles that highlight this issue are Why is Everyone Focused on Zuckerberg s Hoodie by Somini Sengupta and The Logic of Stupid Poor People by Tressie McMillan Cottom. In Sengupta s article she discusses the simple, yet iconic hoodie often worn by Mark Zuckerberg and why it is so much more than it seems. In the movies Wall Street and Boiler Room this is the ideology that the characters uphold. While, there are many variances in the two movies, the basic aim of both lead characters i.e. Gordan Gekko (WallStreet) and Seth Davis (Boiler Room) is to make money. Both men are stockbrokers who deal in high finance in the exclusive world of Wall Street. However, with both movies are set in different decades the way they go about doing so differs. Wealth was seen as something that was easily accessible to all those who wanted it it was simply a matter of getting it. There is easy money to be made in start ups and dot coms. Young people can be millionaires before they even hit their twenties. People like Sabeer Bhatia of Hotmail fame have set the standards. Both movies however, are undeniably focused on capitalism and the making, controlling and of course spending of money. As we see in both movies, it is made by sometimes unlawful means, and controlled by these same unethical people. The occurrence of these immense amounts of wealth is advertised by the spending of the main characters in the films. Expensive restaurants, expensive hotels, expensive homes, expensive paintings, state of the art technology (think Gordan Gekko s cool cellular phone which at that time was perhaps the height of technology!), expensive suits and so on are symbols of this wealth. UTILITARIANISM: Jeremy Bentham was a leading theorist in Anglo American philosophy of law and one of the founders of utilitarianism. He developed this idea of a utility and a utilitarian calculus in the Introduction to the Principles of Morals and Legislation (1781).In the beginning of that work Bentham wrote: Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign masters, pain and pleasure. It is for them alone to point out what we ought to do, as well as to determine what we shall do. On the one hand the standard of right and wrong, on the other the chain of causes and effects, are fastened to their throne. They govern us in all we do, in all we say, in all we think: every effort we can make to throw off our subjection, will serve but to demonstrate and confirm it. Additionally, the act has had adverse effects that outweigh the benefits that it provides. Key Words: copyright, DMCA, DRM, ethics, fair use, legal/societal impact. 1. Introduction Prior to the 1990s, United States copyright legislation, like the media that it protected, had remained relatively unchanged. The advancement of digital technologies, specifically the advent of the Internet and the increasing ability to easily exchange digital media, prompted a change in copyright law. This change came in the form of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). The act extends the protections given to copyright holders. In order to provide this additional protection, the DMCA also has adverse effects. This paper will explore copyright law in the United States and discuss the positive and negative effects of the DMCA, as well as some of the ethical implications associated with it. 2. Illustrate these principles by examining Sophocles play Oedipus the King, in order to establish the link between the theory and practise of tragedy. The advent of modern theater as we know it today began with the worship of Dionysus: the god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness, fertility, theater and religious ecstasy in Greek mythology and a weeklong competition that welcomed the Spring in ancient Greece. Many great playwrights were introduced to the World by the means of this weeklong competition including Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. As the storyline progresses the film adheres to multiple genre codes and conventions to deepen the story arc, this is known as Genre Hybridity as it refers to two or more established genre s through storyline, etc. (REF TO TEXTBOOK) American Beauty is a hybrid genre text because it conforms to more than one genre this being romance, satire and dramathrough formal elements such as narrative and screen aesthetic. This can also be further proved by examples of single/hybrid genre texts like The Notebook (2004, Nick Cassavetes), Fight Club (1999, David Fincher) and Bold and the Beautiful (1987 , William J Bell). http://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/1213628.pdf?acceptTC=true Many major box office hits in today s day an age contain comedy, witty one liner s, major plot twists but mostly romance. The romance genre has become a booming success in the filmindustry as of late 2000 s. (REF) The genre is difficult to define but can be described as the development of lovebetween characters as a main narrative (REF). This can be shown by the massive success of the iconic film, The Notebook grossing in at $115, 603, 229 worldwide. (REF) The film is set around two characters falling in love, therefore falling under the romance genre. One of the conventions of a romance film is forbidden love, this is shown throughout the Notebook between the two main protagonists and is also shown in the movie American Beauty. In American Beauty the protagonist, Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) becomes infatuated with his daughter s best friend, Angela Hayes (Mena Suvari) this creates tension between the characters as Angela continuously entices Mr. Burnham whilst knowing they can never be together due to the age gap and because of his daughter, it is more of an unnatainable lust, therefore conforming to the forbidden love narrative contained within most romantic films. Another aspect of the romance genre is tragedy. Throughout Shakespeare s works all love ends in heartache, there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is relevant to consider the aggressive behavior of Dracula towards his victims while he is on the prowl to fulfill his thirst for blood, especially with Lucy and Reinfield and the image of female vampires feeding on young children (Lucy). This bolsters the notion that the depiction of vampires in early portrays was violent. Also, as a sexually powerful creature, he preyed on men and women to fulfill his desires. The sexual representation of vampires is also evident from Ernest Jones early analysis of folktales, including the vampire. He proceeded to conclude that vampire s and their counterparts, namely the Churel (India) and the Drud (vampires that prey exclusively on other vampires), do not confine themselves to sucking blood; rather in the unconscious mind, blood is commonly associated with semen (106). It would be inaccurate to associate these references to anything but the erotic nature of older folktales. Even in Dracula, the Count is portrayed as a seductive aristocrat who sucks on the blood of men and women, alike.
