Frankenstein Novel Analysis Essay
Myrjun Angeles Ms. Ammendolia EWC4UI 10/13/17 Frankenstein Novel Analysis Frankenstein is
partly an epistolary novel. In what way do the letters at the beginning of the text help frame the story
that follows? The series of letters at the beginning of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley are from Robert
Walton, and were sent to his sister, Margaret Saville. In each letter, Walton tells his sister of updates
while he s on one of many sea trips and to coincide with that, readers of the novel get a glimpse of the
personal turmoil he is facing. On his trip, Walton meets a stranger who he thinks can be the one to
help aid in his feeling of loneliness and isolation. So not only does finding out more about the stranger
make him a friend of Walton s, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So that s why when he encountered the stranger, he immediately found a sense of comfort in confiding
in him because he finally satisfied his need for companionship. In Frankenstein s situation, he too was
seeking a friend because he shared Walton s desire for companionship. The parallel storylines between
a human and a monster make it evident that the two beings, though physically different, may not be as
contrasting as initially thought. Frankenstein is a story within a story. What effect does this technique
have upon the narrative? The story within a story technique can also be called frame story/narrative. In
Frankenstein, this technique helps introduce different characters as well as their perspectives. Through
the letters written by Robert Walton to Margaret Saville, readers learn about Victor Frankenstein and
his creation s story. If one thinks about it, this novel actually has many layers, and can be referred to as
a story within a story that s within another story. The reason being is in Walton s letters, we learn of
Victor Frankenstein and his adversity when he created the monster, which is the last narrative the
readers experience. To restate, this technique brings together the individual stories of Walton, Victor
and Frankenstein in many ways that overall become clearer in the initial letters Mary Shelley uses in
the beginning of the novel. Explain the purposes of each of the following characters in the story. Why
does Shelley need them? How are they

Nokia and Finland
Case study: Finland and Nokia
1. How was Finland able to move from a sleepy economy to one of the most competitive nations in
the world by the end of the 1990 s?
Finland was considered a sleepy country even after their independence from Sweden, depending its
economy mainly on the Soviet Union by exporting its natural resources. Finland however slowly but
constantly developed its economy up to the OECD average, following the models of its Nordic
neighbors to invest highly in social welfare and public infrastructure. Also, Finland had gone though
dramatic change in its macroeconomic policy starting from 1970s, featuring fixed nominal exchange
rate, centralized wage bargaining, and an increasing fiscal budget though the 1980s. Strict ... Show

Finnish telephone network was never monopolized by the state, granting many licenses for telephone
operations to prevent the Russia to seize its national telephone system when Finland was Russian
Grand Duchy. After independence, Finland s attempts to nationalize poorly performing telecom failed
due to political resistance, but could stimulate private operators to upgrade their technology to prevent
their nationalization. The legacy of communication business left a lot of competitive companies in the
sector for development. However despite all the reasons mentioned above, emerging demand for such
technology from global market would be the greatest reason why mobile communication industry
emerged in Finland and made Finland a world leading nation in mobile communication.
3. How was Nokia able to become a world leader in mobile handsets?
Nokia s aggressive strategy to dominate mobile communication cluster would be the main reason how
Nokia could become a world leader in the sector among other reasons. Nokia s passion for mobile
communication industry was great enough to give up more than 40% of its revenue in is pre owned
communication industry to concentrate only in mobile communications. Nokia was also lucky enough
to see the possibility of mobile communication early enough to predominate the industry and prevent
any competition from

The Importance of the First Amendment of the United...
Being expression one of the most important rights of the people to maintain a connected society right
to speech should be accepted to do so. The first amendment is one of the most fundamental rights that
individuals have. It is fundamental to the existence of democracy and the respect of human dignity.
This amendment describes the principal rights of the citizens of the United States. If the citizens were
unable to criticize the government, it would be impossible to regulate order. By looking freedom of
speech there is also freedom of assembly and freedom of press that are crucial for the United States
democracy. According to the Derechos, Human Rights , freedom of speech is one of the most

The people will be submitted to a dictatorship. That s why freedom of speech is so important because
is the main and the introductory part to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. The founding fathers
wrote this right to make sure that United States will be a different country, a better country where
everyone could understand each other and that what happened to them (British government) will not
happen ever again. In a democratic government also depends on freedom of press and freedom of
assembly. Freedom of press is the occurrences that happen every day that are informed or detailed
through television, newspaper, internet, magazines or speech without adding or removing any type of
information that do not benefit a particular sector. And also is that the people have the right to have
their own type of press to express their ideas. Today, freedom of press is a utopia because every
country has their own secrets, and covers important information to their citizens. With freedom of
press, the countries will have a perfect government not so perfect but the people need to know the
truth. The democratic government is a form of government in which the people, either directly or
indirectly, take part in governing. Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those
others that have been tried. This is because there is no system that can perfectly order society. Usually
the purpose of democracy is to prevent tyranny (the accumulation of

Discovery Essay on Away Michael Gow
To discover is to gain sight or knowledge of something. How have ideas about discovery been shown
in Away and The Book Thief Discovery allows main characters to gain sight or knowledge into
themselves and others. This is evident in Michael Gow s Away, as seen through the characters of
Gwen, Coral and Tom. The three gain sight and knowledge into their lives through the different
perceptions and ideas of discovery. Similarly, in The Book Thief, Liesel gains sight and knowledge
into the world around her, with the help of books which allow her to become educated about the
immoral acts that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of Gwen s upbringing in the depression, she consequently places a false value upon
materialistic goods. At the night of the play, Gwen asks Meg Why did you have to do Shakespeare
for? We couldn t see a blessed thing . Through her dialogue in relation to the Shakespearean allusion,
this displays that Gwen resists the emotional depth that Shakespeare represents, and that she is
metaphorically blind. Once Gwen discovers the knowledge about Tom s condition, she gains sight,
and is no longer metaphorically blind to reality. Through her sight, she realizes that family is more
important than placing a false value on materialistic goods. This idea of discovery has been explored
through relationships and events which significantly impacted on her new found knowledge and sight.
Tom, the agent for change gains sight and knowledge into the acceptance of his impending death. The
opening of the play starts with the ending of A Midsummer Night s Dream where Tom as Puck says
Gentles, do not reprehend. If you pardon, we will mend. This foreshadows Tom s healing role in the
play. Although Tom seems to be the character in the least need of a discovery, he still gains sight into
the reality of his condition and knowledge that he needs to accept this. This is evident through reading
King Lear. The scene is set outside, as instructed by

A Critical Analysis Of The Theory Of Endosymbiosis And It...
A critical analysis of the Theory of Endosymbiosis and it s supporting evidence
Abstract
Introduction
The endosymbiotic theory is an evolutionary theory explaining the origin of Eukaryotic cells from
Prokaryotic, and is at present; the most widely accepted evolutionary theory of the Eukaryotic cell.
The theory explains the origins of mitochondria and chloroplasts and their double membranes,
suggesting that chloroplasts and mitochondria represent formerly free living bacteria that were taken
into a cell as an endosymbiont. Molecular evidence suggests that mitochondria developed from
proteobacteria and chloroplasts from cyanobacteria. It is thought that the Prokaryotes may have
entered the host cell as a parasite or source of nutrient for the host, however avoided digestion. The
primitive chloroplast may have provided the host cell with crucial nutrients, and the primitive
mitochondrion may have aided the exploitation of oxygen for the extraction of energy. In return the
host cell offered a protected environment for the Prokaryotes to live in. This was the beginning of a
symbiotic relationship between the primitive chloroplast and mitochondria, and the Eukaryotic cell.
The theory was ridiculed for years due its controversial nature, however in 1967 Lynn Margulis, a
biologist from Boston University, developed the modern Serial Endosymbiosis Theory.
Primary Endosymbiosis vs. Secondary Endosymbiosis
Primary endosymbiosis involves the engulfment of a bacterium by another

Shelly In Frankenstein
APPREANCE1
Understanding the physical appearance of Frankenstein from Shelly s novel a few notable things that
makes the creature essential in being the monster is how it looks. Shelly s description of the creature is
that of one who is assembled from dead body parts put together in making up a sole person or
individual. In Frankenstein (1931) it is seen that Henry Frankenstein searches graveyards and
assembles from numerous corpses his creation before bringing it to life. It can be said that James
Whale sticks to the original story in how the director adapted this process. James Whale s
Frankenstein (1931) features an intimidating monster that is larger then the average men and much
bigger in size. Whale s depiction of the monster is more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henry Frankenstein outside of living isolated and mad with his scientific breakthrough has a
significant other who he is to be married too. In Shelly s work this significant other is Elizabeth and
the development of the story changes when Victor is conflicted with continuing his activity revolved
around his creation or marrying Elizabeth. In Frankenstein (1931) Henry Frankenstein creates the
creature but is convinced to abandon his work and pursue his love life as he proceeds to marry
Elizabeth. The decision to leave his work abruptly would have consequences as this is when the
creature is out of Henry s attention and awareness, and becomes essentially free to roam and do
horrible things. By leaving the creature out of his attention as read in Shelly s work Victor
Frankenstein unknowingly unleashes terror into the outside world where his creations murder innocent
victims.

Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
The negative consequences of colonialism continue to be evident in the works of various authors who
address the issues that continue to plague the post colonial world. While the consequences of
colonialism vary throughout geographical regions and colonizers value systems, the social constructs
that were imposed upon the native people are quite similar. In particular, the effects of racial
classification continue to have internal and external consequences in a post colonial world. In A Small
Place, by Jamaica Kincaid and Chronicle of a Death Foretold, by Gabriel García Márquez, the authors
describes the adverse effects that stem from the social construct of race imposed upon the natives by
colonizers as a classificatory tool, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gabriel García Márquez presents the foretold murder of Santiago Nasar, a Colombian of Arab descent,
who is accused of taking a woman s virginity (20). The narrator, who is a friend to Nasar s murderers,
attempts to point out all of Nasar s differences to the Colombian people. Santiago Nasar has a
Colombian mother and Arabic father with whom he feels a stronger connection because they speak
Arabic, but never around Nasar s mother (Márquez 3). The fact that he must contain his own identity
because of his Colombian mother portrays the discomfort held by Colombians towards the foreigners.
His foreignness contributes to the accusation made towards him which eventually led to his murder.
The author hints that Angela Vicario is lying when she is interrogated by her brothers for the name of
the one who took her virginity, because she looked for it in the shadows and found it at first sight
among the many, many easily confused names from this world and the other (25). She looks for a
name from the dead and the living because she knows the grave fate that would follow her decision.
Angela seemed to feel compelled to choose his name because she either believes that he did not
deserve life or that his life would not be considered valuable. Only his other Colombian friends of
Arab descent actually warn him of the murder threat and none of the other citizens of the town are
able to reach out to him before it is too late. The racial divisions and sense of foreignness held
between the people of Nasar s town and Nasar contributed to his death and the factors that stopped
other people from attempting to warn him of his

Becoming A Law Enforcement Officer Essay
The decision to become a law enforcement officer came to me around age eighteen. Since then, my
behavior has been appropriate, and of high standard. However, I did a few things during my teenage
years that I am not proud of. When I was fifteen I stole an MP3 player from another student at my
high school and then shoplifted a pair of earphones from a local Walmart. A year later I shoplifted a
pack of condoms from the same Walmart. These events have been haunting me ever since, and have
changed the way I look at things compared to when I was a teenage kid. I was attending Kofa High
School the first time I stole something of value. It was during class, we had just gone out of the
classroom as a group and for some reason I went back into the class to grab something out of my
backpack. When I was leaving the room I saw the MP3 player on a mesh pocket on one of the
backpacks. I thought to myself for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At age sixteen my girlfriend and I were beginning to want to have sex. I knew I needed to wear
protection, for I thought that she would get pregnant if we did anything more than kiss. At that age I
thought I was ready for sex; however, I was not ready to go up to the cash register to pay for condoms.
The thought of paying for condoms filled me with dread, especially because I wasn t sure on their
policies of selling condoms to minors. It sounds ignorant to me now, but the teenage me was not sure
about the legality of buying condoms at age sixteen and the thought of being the center of attention at
the cash register was just dreadful. I knew I definitely needed protection but I was too scared to buy it,
so I took three condoms out of a pack and walked out of the store with the condoms in my pocket. Just
like with the earphones, I went back to Walmart years later, bought a pack of condoms, and then left
them behind. I know it doesn t make up for what I did, but it felt good to do

The Legal And Ethical Implications Associated With...
I aim to explain the drug development process, to explore the legal and ethical implications associated
with wrongful off label prescribing, and provide my recommendations for reform of the
pharmaceutical industry. I will consistently refer to the GlaxoSmithKline case to display the
maleficent inner workings of the multinational pharmaceutical company. Glaxo was involved in the
biggest health care fraud settlement in U.S. history for introducing and encouraging physicians to off
label prescribe their patients six misbranded drugs, Paxil, Wellbutrin, Advair, Lamictal, Avandia and
Zofran. Kickbacks were paid to physicians that prescribed those drugs but also for the drugs Imitrex,
Flovent, Lotronex, and Valtrex. Glaxo also failed to report safety data to the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) for Avandia, a diabetes drug. I find this issue to be so important because I hope
to pursue a career in health law. My health policy major and relevant coursework ignited my interest
in the legal issues strewn throughout our health care system. The United States Pharmacopoeia (USP)
was established to set the standards for the manufacture, nomenclature, indications, and chemical
characteristics of drugs and continues to do so today. In 1938, the Pure Food and Drug Act created the
FDA, to ensure the, safety, efficacy, and appropriate labeling and advertising of pharmaceutical
products before approving them for sale (Blum, 2002). Prescription drugs are developed and both pre

Race and Racism
I chose to write about the racism that people in the United States are experiencing. The United States
has the world s largest economy in the world s gross domestic product and the United States makes up
to roughly about 17 to 22 percent of it. United States currency is the most widely used currency in
international trade, other countries such as British Virgin Islands, Ecuador, Panama, the Bahamas,
Turks and Caicos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Nicaragua and Belize use the US dollar as their own currency.

in it. Christianity is the largest religion which makes up about 70.6% and about 25.4% makeup

The Philippines have various cultures because it was colonized by different countries which
influenced most of the cultures. From what I experienced people in the Philippines are always open.
They always have a warm welcome whenever they meet new people, they are always open to making
new friends from what I have experienced. I think there is racism in the Philippines but I have never
seen it or I have not experienced it. The people I associated with are not racist, they were very open,
whenever there is someone that is not the same race. When it comes to families, our families treat each
other like relatives and we trust each other. I grew up with Filipino and a little bit of Portuguese
culture since my dad was Portuguese. I say that because there are some things we do differently and
how my dad acts or protects us. We had the opportunity to socialize with people in our neighborhoods,

Paraneoplastic Cerebellar Degeneration (PCD)
Paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration (PCD)
PCD is one of the most common and characteristic paraneoplastic syndromes. In series of patients
with antibody associated PNS, presentation with cerebellar signs occurred in 37%. Usually the
syndrome starts acutely with nausea, vomiting, dizziness and slight incoordination of walking,
evolving rapidly over weeks to a few months with progressive ataxia of gait, limbs and trunk,
dysarthria and often nystagmus associated with oscillopsia. The disease is progressive in months and
then stabilizes. By this time most patients are severely debilitated: walking without support, sitting
unsupported and self feeding becomes difficult while handwriting is often impossible. Signs are
always bilateral but may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brain FDG PET scan and SPECT may show cerebellar hypermetabolism and increased perfusion
during the acute stages of PCD(Choi et al. 2006). In the chronic phase, CT and MRI often reveal
cerebellar atrophy. In the search for antibodies and associated malignancy anti Yo (PCA 1), anti Tr
(PCA Tr) and anti mGluR1 are associated with relatively pure cerebellar syndromes. Anti Yo
antibodies point at breast, ovarian, endometrium and fallopian tube cancers[70]. Rarely, anti Yo
associated PCD occurs in male patients, usually associated with a gastrointestinal adenocarcinoma,
expressing the cdr2 antigen(Debes et al. 2007). Anti Tr antibodies appear specific for Hodgkin s
disease(Bernal et al. 2003) and anti mGluR1 antibodies have been found in two patients with PCD and
Hodgkin s disease(Sillevis Smitt et al. 2000). About 50% of PCD patients with an underlying SCLC
have high titers of anti Hu antibodies while the remaining patients are likely to have anti P/Q type
VGCC antibodies. These antibodies were present in all patients who also had Lambert Eaton
myasthenic syndrome (LEMS). In patients with anti amphihysin or anti CV2 antibodies, the cerebellar
degeneration is often part of the PEM syndrome and more widespread neurological symptoms and
signs are usually found. The less well characterized

Examples Of Struggles In The Piano Lesson By August Wilson
Struggles of the Charles family and of African Americans In the play The Piano Lesson written by
August Wilson, siblings Berniece and Boy Willie Charles encounter the same dilemma on multiple
occasions; whether to sell the antique, family inherited piano or not. Boy Willie plans to buy the
Mississippi land, which his family were slaves at, with the money he gets when he sells the piano.
Unfortunately for him, Berniece declines his offer on selling the piano. She believes the piano should
be kept due to it being the reminder of their family heritage. The piano resembles a totem pole since it
has carvings and images of their family past. The carvings on the piano represent the family history,
struggle, and the African American struggle. The piano symbolizes survival as well; the survival of the
Charles family and all African Americans.
The piano to Berniece abides a storybook, containing all the struggles their family has gone through,
hence she would like to continue to keep it. However, she does not let her daughter, Maretha, know
the history of the piano nor does she play or touch it due to the fact that Berneice does not wish to
disturb the spirits. In addition, she has the desire to hide the past and not come to terms with it. By the
end of the play, the piano has developed into a holy altar for the dead. The dead believe that they still
possess the piano and continue to visit it, wanting and expecting for music to be played. As an
illustration, Berneice

Joseph Bazalgette; Savior of the Streets
Where would we be today without the sewage draining system. Joseph Bazalgette was the inventor of
the sewage draining system. He invented the sewage drainage system so all of the disease in the

Comparing Hardships And Challenges In Refugee, By Alan Gratz
No one is prepared for war and the most challenging decisions you will have to make to survive.
Although each character in Refugee, by Alan Gratz, is from a different time and place, they each share
similar hardships and challenges in their experiences, such as they were all forced from their homes,
they all lose a family member, and their problems begin in their own country.
All of the characters were forced from their home sometime during this book. Josef, a German Jew
during WW2 had to leave his home due to the violence brought by the Nazis. Josef didn t want to
leave. Germany was his home. (6). Josef s father was taken to a concentration camp and was released
6 months after but only if he left the country within 14 days. Josef knew it was unfair, that because he
was Jewish that he must be punished for it. Later, Josef settled in France but the Nazis have begun to
take over most parts of France. One of Rachel Landau s children would go free, one of her children
would go into the camps (291). The Germans find Josef, his mother, and Ruthie his sister and are
asked for their papers which have a big stamped J on it for Jew. His mother tries to bribe the soldiers
but they say it is only enough for one of her children to go free. Josef senses that this is the time to
finally become a man and save his sister from the horrors inside of those camps. He sacrifices himself
so Ruthie can escape the Nazis and is taken to the concentration camps with his mother. Josef and His
mother, died in the camp and never got to see Ruthie again.
Isabel, is a girl living in Cuba during Fidel Castro s reign and the economic crisis. Early in the book, a
riot occurred against the government s unfair rights and that night Fidel gave the people to leave the
country without punishment. Papi had to leave Cuba. Tonight (29). Isabel s father had been the one to
initiate the riot and the police noticed this action. They said they were going to find him and put him

the relationships between parents and children(Hugler1). It causes some kids to go into depression or
stress(Hugler1). Child abuse can be dangerous to some children and I demand it be taken very
seriously. Some children cause harm to themselves and in many cases, to others. It also causes them to
have a decrease in their social life. The impact of child abuse on parent/child relationships causes
mental, physical, and social issues. Some children suffer from mental issues after going through
parental abuse(Ricca2). Mental issues can change someones mood or behavior. Children who had

Some kids would scratch or cut themselves after being abused for long periods of time(Orr1). It is best
to take that child to see a counselor before the problem escalates into a bigger problem. In extreme
cases, some kids would even commit suicide(Thompson1). Children who are afraid to let others know
that they are being abused would most likely look toward committing suicide. Some kids who were
victims of child abuse would even run away(Ganderilla1). Child abuse not only effects the child being
abused, but also effects the people around him. They also cause injuries to others around
them(Fiorvanti1). Children who gets abused are more likely to cause fights with others(Pam1). The
fighting rate from kids who have been abused by a parent has rose dramatically(Hugler1). Some kids
may get kicked from school or get expelled because of their behavior. Child abuse can effect children

Essay On Louisiana Natural Resources
There are many different types of natural resources in Louisiana. Today I will talk about one of the
natural resources. Oil is a natural resource because it occurs naturally in nature. Oil isn t man made. It
is made from the long decay of the carbon and oxygen atoms in plants and animals. It is also stored
solar power. This is because of the sunlight used at the time animals and plants lived and it uses the
sun s energy.
Oil supplies thirty four percent of the world s energy needs. Oil is also a fossil fuel. This is because it
is extracted from built up organic material and fossils. Oil is mostly used as transportation fuel. It is
also found found in many other products like fertilizers, makeup, paints, and fabrics.
Companies measure oil in barrels. Barrels are equal to forty United States gallons or one hundred fifty

expensive it was sometimes referred to as white gold . Only 6% of the salt used in the U.S. is used in

Analysis Of Ian Mcewan s The Saturday Essay
In this analytic essay, I will be exploring the use of literary language in the novel Saturday by Ian
McEwan and how with the use of narration and imagery can under shadow a simple piece of
literature.
Ian McEwan uses a contemporary character to show the day in a life of a Londoner, with the aid of the
narrator s voice throughout, there is a lot of symbolic imagery and strong statements. The narrator
appears omniscient thought out this text, the effectiveness of this allows us to be emotionally attached
to just Henry, and not allowing much use of imagination. Wonderfully Ian McEwan challenges the
reader at moments of conflict, with morality in mind, to then following the view of Henry. Is the
lierarture theme of following this character a metaphor for London? I believe this choice of narration
is to cover up the sub lining of this piece of literature, which is power and identification of London
through a single character.
The use of the vocabulary in this novel is rather meticulous, every detail finely researched, a piece of
fiction that educates the reader and questions. With the use of sleeping, working, entertaining
themselves he writes humanly relatable actions, as if we were in fact a machine, a routine sequence
that sub textually describes the character Henry, and with that in place, describes London. Henry goes
about his day in a perfect circle . Henry s thoughts describe his accident as a trivial matter p82 an
inconvenience, which is shown when he disregards

My Trip At A Restaurant
The patio light was on automatically when I opened my aunt s apartment front door but the house was
still dark. I knew my aunt had not returned yet. She texted me before I was done with my shift to tell
me that she would return home late. As an accountant in a hospital, she was always busy on the first

but I knew she would come home late for those days.
Turning on the light, I put my take out container on the kitchen s counter. On my way home, I stopped

Sensory Perception In Truman s Mind
Truman uses introspection to dig deeper into his mind. Truman reflects and looks into himself, his
thoughts and desires. This movie is not only a journey of Truman discovering the outside world but
also a process of developing his internal mind. In a scene, Truman is looking into his mirror and
speaking to himself which is a sign of self reflection, which Truman needed to get out of this make

find an understanding of his mind which helps him distinguish himself and gives him willpower to do
what he has a deep longing for, discover. Sensory perception plays a keen role in helping Truman
discover the truth. It is noticeable that Truman is observant of his surroundings. He used his sense of
hearing to become aware that someone is watching his every move when the radio channel accidently

Confucius And Confucianism
Confucius s philosophical teachings about government and society discussed in the Analects revolve
around morality and how a ruler and his people should act in order to stabilize society. Confucius
looked to the past to discuss the problems of the present by modeling his teachings from the former
Zhou empire. Confucius sought to bring back the Zhou traditions in order to better society. By linking
moral behaviors to social roles and hierarchies, he emphasized that the stability of the government and
society was directly correlated to the relationship between the ruler and the people. With the title Son
of Heaven, the ruler was expected to act morally towards his subjects and treat them with love and
concern ( Introduction to Confucian Thought , 2009). This idea is directly related to the concept of
ren, which discusses the well being of others as the moral drive of society. He extended this idea into
social harmony, being first and foremost embedded in the family. Confucius believed that the virtue of
filial piety was the foundation for not just family life but also had implication for the ruler subject
bond ( Mencius and his development of Confucian teachings , n.d.). Similarly, Mencius centered his
teachings on this idea by stressing that the well being of the family directly corresponded to the well
being of the state. Most importantly however, Confucius also discussed the importance of the ruler
ruling over the people with virtue, which was achieved through ritual

Analgesia Case Study
Given the difficulty in finding the Holy Grail of behavioural pain scales for neonates, investigators
have begun to look for objective physiologic tools. These pursuits have included regional oxygen
saturation in the brain (as in near infrared spectroscopy), EEG, heart rate variability, skin conductance
and neurohumoral responses. Although each appears to be an objective metric that may reflect the
neonate s response to a painful stimulus, some of the metrics under investigation are invasive, others
reflect a time course that may not correspond to the level of stimulation, and others remain imprecise.

Parenteral morphine is usually given intravenously either by intermittent dosing, continuous infusion
or in a nurse controlled analgesia (NCA) regimen. (211) Subcutaneous morphine is also used. The
pharmacokinetics and clinical use of morphine in neonates have been reviewed extensively. In
neonates 1 7 days of age, the clearance of morphine is markedly diminished, being 30 % of that of
older infants and children. As a result, the elimination half life is approximately 1.7 fold greater than
in older children . Infusion rates and dose intervals must therefore be adjusted according to both age
and weight of the neonate, to avoid accumulation. (212)
Fentanyl
Fentanyl is a synthetic, high potency (100x morphine) lipid soluble opioid; its main use is for
intraoperative analgesia where its rapid onset, short initial half life, and cardiovascular stability at
larger doses are an advantage. Fentanyl is also used by infusion in ICU, and it has some advantages
for procedural pain owing to its rapid onset. High dose fentanyl has been associated with chest wall
rigidity and subsequent difficulty in ventilation. Accordingly, large doses are usually given only when
respiration is controlled. (213)

Research by Whiteley and Seyd (2002) backs up this claim as they note that the decline in party
membership and party activism has been documented by grass roots party members in the UK for over
ten years. Whiteley (2006) further supports this claim as he notes that there has been a weakening of
partisan attachments within the electorate, and that over time there has been a long term decline
towards party identification. He goes on to note that in 1964, when surveys first started to be used,
almost 50% of the electorate had strong party identification towards a particular political party, but by
2001 this had reduced to only 13% of the electorate. He concluded by saying that although party
identification had clearly declined over the years, the majority of voters still have some form of
partisan attachments, although clearly a lot weaker than it once was. Meaning voters can now be more
easily persuaded to switch parties. Research by Budge, Newton, McKay and Bartle (1998) also show
that there has been a decline in party identification. They state that between the years 1945 to 1970,
44.8% of the electorate described themselves as being Conservative, 46.8% as Labour, 7.1% as
Liberal Democrats and only 1.3% identified themselves as having attachments with other smaller
parties. However, in 2005 Conservative

Women s Role In The Middle Ages
From Submission to Equally: The Struggle Continues
Women as social agent played a secondary role in the middle ages. That condition keeps them away
from any participation in the direct taking of decisions. A special feature on women was strongly
marked from the moment itself of their birth, not only by the social status to which they belonged, but
for the genre. Women s role was always relegated to their husbands to whom they owed submission
and obedience. Therefore, the female status remained on a clearly lower level than the male.
Historic in the medieval world, life was established according to the social and religious order. Thus,
following religious precepts, the woman, the weak creäture, should be always submitted to God, but
also in her early life to the father, and then to the husband; if she could not be a virgin, holy or
religious then, should be a wife and mother.
Thus, as soon as the imposed education was assimilated on having married, those woman met one of
its main goals: find a husband. Marriage represented for their the opportunity to play a role in the

INTRODUCTION
The aim of this research was to look at the discrimination towards teenagers from certain family
backgrounds, like stepfamilies, ethnic families and single parent families in council housing estates.
The aim is to look at the age range of 13 18 years, as these youngsters have a tendency to be criticised
more by society. With no thought that they are individuals with different morals and personalities.
There is a high level of petty crime, recreational drugs, truancy and teenage pregnancy in this range of
younger people. There is also a higher level of social exclusions for this age group. There is always a
tendency to lay blame on their circumstances and backgrounds. It is not necessarily true that if you
come from a less adequate background, that you are more likely to be an underachiever. If you give
someone self esteem then they can always do better. People assume that they can pass judgement on
someone else s life, which is labelling them as inadequate.
Like traditional stereotypes, the teenager has been given a distorted image by the modern media (Int,
2003). Both young people and older adults deserve more choices in where and how they spend their
time. Others should not dictate them, how and where. The need is more acceptable for this to happen

I live close to a walmart in Burtonsville MD, so I decided to write this Paper on their Inventory
System. Wal mart, the wholesale retail monopoly, focused on developing an RFID based electronic
product code, or EPC. The electronic code would allow businesses to track shipments and inventory
automatically through a system of tags and sensors. It was a potential replacement for the manual
scanning of bar codes, a technology that itself revolutionized retail two decades earlier. Given the
nearly non existent cost of bar codes relative to RFID, several in the industry said, the EPC was a
solution in search of a problem. Wal Mart view RFID technology in their SMART system as a ...

The Strengths of The SMART Inventory System are, the actual database has to be enormous. There
are so many products that the Wal Mart keeps track of. All of which must be in the same database
because products they don t carry will still scan and give all the detailed information of those
Products. This is helpful because it allows people to return products from a Mega Wal Mart that

linked to the cash registers. When a product is sold, inventory is updated automatically. On hand
counts are updated and on some products they are reordered automatically, depending on how many

Wal mart uses smart tag sensors on garments to track better inventory controls, Wal Mart workers will

PESTLE Analysis on Tesco
Therefore, by discussing the environmental factors of PESTLE , in my personal opinion, I strongly
believe that the Political , the Economic and the Legal environments have the most impact on Tesco as
it operates internationally, in the United Kingdom and within 12 markets across Asia and Europe. For
this very reason it very important to consider all possible, political, economic and legal structures,
impacts and outcomes which might affect the overall success of the company as they play a major role
in relation to one another.
When looking at the political factors for Tesco, and, as it operates in a globalized environment with
locations across the world, the company s performance is extremely influenced by the political and
legislative functions of each country. In terms of legislations under employment, the government
really encourages retailers to provide work place opportunities from, flexible, lower paid, local based
jobs to highly skilled, paid, and centrally located jobs (Balchin, 1994) to meet certain demands
relating to students, senior citizens and working parents. The company understands that while being in
the retail industry, it has a large impact on individuals and the work place (the development of new
stores may often be seen as a conflict to other retail sectors due to the fact that the traditional stores go
out of business or are forced to cut certain cost in order to being able to compete) as being a
fundamentally local and labour intensive sector.

Agrium Inc. had announced their plan to expand annual potash capacity by up to 40 percent at their
Vanscoy mine. Uralkali s announcement sent ripples throughout the potash industry. Stock prices and
profits fell as potash prices dropped by up to 25 percent. Adding to this new market instability is new
rival competitor. Agrium Inc. is now faced with many questions when considering their future:
 Should they continue expansion at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their mine and production facility at Vanscoy has a current production capacity of over two million
tons annually. Expansion projections of 750,000 tons would increase production levels by up to 40
percent.
There are two main threats taking place in the industry environment. New rival BHP s Jansen mine in
Saskatchewan is one of the largest and highest cost greenfield mines under development. The Jansen
mine development would place BPH as one of the top five potash producers worldwide. Current
demand and pricing strategy along with other factors indicate that it is unlikely that the Jansen mine
will operate at full capacity of 8 million tons. With the exit of Uralkali from the BCP cartel; the price
over volume strategy that has been in place for the global export market has ended, causing
uncertainty in the potash market.
Agrium s weakness in the market is their current annual production capacity of two million tons. Their
smaller production capacity limits their ability to achieve greater market penetration. Demand for
potash continues to increase with population growth and the need for more agricultural output to meet
long term food demands. The increased production from the expansion of their Vanscoy mine will
allow them the ability to penetrate the market more deeply and keep up with increased demand.
Increased production would also spread a larger share of their

The authors concluded that while increasing gastroenterology capacity is important (i.e., capital and
funding availability, plus searching the local labor market for gastroenterology physicians, nurses, and
physician assistants), it may not be as beneficial as redirecting the focus on healthcare system process
changes. Access limitations may be due to suboptimal management of current capacity rather than
inadequate levels of capacity (Powell et al., 2009). As the largest healthcare system in the world, the
VHA cannot rely solely on hiring and training more gastroenterology staff when process management
is also in urgent need of simultaneous, coordinated improvement. As a response to this colossal
demand to expand gastroenterology trained and credentialed providers to perform colonoscopy, a
small number of VHA facilities and gastroenterology departments sought new and innovative ways to
build provider and space capacity to mitigate this challenging, unmet need. Dr. Jason Dominitz,
National Program Director for Gastroenterology Patient Care Services, reported there are at least a

Essay On Representing More People In Television
Representing More People in Television
Television is a form of media that has been around since the 1950 s and has made slow but steady
progress in representing everyone since then. We have come a long way from the shows about a white
American, upper middle class, nuclear family that lives in the suburbs. Today, representation in
television is much broader, but still has shortcomings. From the 1950 s to the 1990 s, many shows
were about families or a group of friends, such as The Brady Bunch, Cheers, and The Fresh Prince of
Bel Air. Progress has been made prior to the 2010 s but nowhere near as much progress as the shows
that have been aired in this current decade.

For most of television history, women have been stereotyped and held secondary roles. The timeless
classic, I Love Lucy, was a program that was well ahead of its time. Lucille Ball plays the lead role
and breaks the stereotype that women aren t funny. But this is one of the few, if not, the only early
television sitcom that breaks the mold of its time. Many shows and series of the first few decades of
television feature women as the typical stay at home mom or the fragile damsel in distress that have
very simple lines. However, that sentiment is changing drastically because of shows like Orange Is the
New Black (OitNB), a show that is about a women s prison and the lives of the inmates. Many types
of women are represented; women of color, LGBT women, and even women with mental illnesses.
Each character is complex and portrayed realistically. No role is strictly designated as a villain, hero,
love interest, or the one character that has to be saved. This is completely different from the roles that
women played in the past. Oliver Lee Bateman of TeenVogue mentioned a pattern in women s roles in

In what way do the letters at the beginning of the text help frame the story that follows? The series of letters at the beginning of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley are from Robert Walton, and were sent to his sister, Margaret Saville. In each letter, Walton tells his sister of updates while he s on one of many sea trips and to coincide with that, readers of the novel get a glimpse of the personal turmoil he is facing. On his trip, Walton meets a stranger who he thinks can be the one to help aid in his feeling of loneliness and isolation. To restate, this technique brings together the individual stories of Walton, Victor and Frankenstein in many ways that overall become clearer in the initial letters Mary Shelley uses in the beginning of the novel. Explain the purposes of each of the following characters in the story. Why does Shelley need them? How are they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finland was considered a sleepy country even after their independence from Sweden, depending its economy mainly on the Soviet Union by exporting its natural resources. Finland however slowly but constantly developed its economy up to the OECD average, following the models of its Nordic neighbors to invest highly in social welfare and public infrastructure. At the night of the play, Gwen asks Meg Why did you have to do Shakespeare for? We couldn t see a blessed thing . Through her dialogue in relation to the Shakespearean allusion, this displays that Gwen resists the emotional depth that Shakespeare represents, and that she is metaphorically blind. Once Gwen discovers the knowledge about Tom s condition, she gains sight, and is no longer metaphorically blind to reality. Through her sight, she realizes that family is more important than placing a false value on materialistic goods. This idea of discovery has been explored through relationships and events which significantly impacted on her new found knowledge and sight. Tom, the agent for change gains sight and knowledge into the acceptance of his impending death. The opening of the play starts with the ending of A Midsummer Night s Dream where Tom as Puck says Gentles, do not reprehend. If you pardon, we will mend. This foreshadows Tom s healing role in the play. • 8. A Critical Analysis Of The Theory Of Endosymbiosis And It... A critical analysis of the Theory of Endosymbiosis and it s supporting evidence Abstract Introduction The endosymbiotic theory is an evolutionary theory explaining the origin of Eukaryotic cells from Prokaryotic, and is at present; the most widely accepted evolutionary theory of the Eukaryotic cell. The theory explains the origins of mitochondria and chloroplasts and their double membranes, suggesting that chloroplasts and mitochondria represent formerly free living bacteria that were taken into a cell as an endosymbiont. Molecular evidence suggests that mitochondria developed from proteobacteria and chloroplasts from cyanobacteria. It is thought that the Prokaryotes may have entered the host cell as a parasite or source of nutrient for the host, however avoided digestion. The primitive chloroplast may have provided the host cell with crucial nutrients, and the primitive mitochondrion may have aided the exploitation of oxygen for the extraction of energy. In return the host cell offered a protected environment for the Prokaryotes to live in. This was the beginning of a symbiotic relationship between the primitive chloroplast and mitochondria, and the Eukaryotic cell. The theory was ridiculed for years due its controversial nature, however in 1967 Lynn Margulis, a biologist from Boston University, developed the modern Serial Endosymbiosis Theory. Primary Endosymbiosis vs. Secondary Endosymbiosis Primary endosymbiosis involves the engulfment of a bacterium by another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shelly s description of the creature is that of one who is assembled from dead body parts put together in making up a sole person or individual. In Frankenstein (1931) it is seen that Henry Frankenstein searches graveyards and assembles from numerous corpses his creation before bringing it to life. It can be said that James Whale sticks to the original story in how the director adapted this process. Chronicle Of A Death Foretold The negative consequences of colonialism continue to be evident in the works of various authors who address the issues that continue to plague the post colonial world. While the consequences of colonialism vary throughout geographical regions and colonizers value systems, the social constructs that were imposed upon the native people are quite similar. In particular, the effects of racial classification continue to have internal and external consequences in a post colonial world. The narrator, who is a friend to Nasar s murderers, attempts to point out all of Nasar s differences to the Colombian people. Santiago Nasar has a Colombian mother and Arabic father with whom he feels a stronger connection because they speak Arabic, but never around Nasar s mother (Márquez 3). The fact that he must contain his own identity because of his Colombian mother portrays the discomfort held by Colombians towards the foreigners. His foreignness contributes to the accusation made towards him which eventually led to his murder. The author hints that Angela Vicario is lying when she is interrogated by her brothers for the name of the one who took her virginity, because she looked for it in the shadows and found it at first sight among the many, many easily confused names from this world and the other (25). She looks for a name from the dead and the living because she knows the grave fate that would follow her decision. Angela seemed to feel compelled to choose his name because she either believes that he did not deserve life or that his life would not be considered valuable. Only his other Colombian friends of Arab descent actually warn him of the murder threat and none of the other citizens of the town are able to reach out to him before it is too late. The racial divisions and sense of foreignness held between the people of Nasar s town and Nasar contributed to his death and the factors that stopped other people from attempting to warn him of his ... However, I did a few things during my teenage years that I am not proud of. When I was fifteen I stole an MP3 player from another student at my high school and then shoplifted a pair of earphones from a local Walmart. A year later I shoplifted a pack of condoms from the same Walmart. These events have been haunting me ever since, and have changed the way I look at things compared to when I was a teenage kid. I aim to explain the drug development process, to explore the legal and ethical implications associated with wrongful off label prescribing, and provide my recommendations for reform of the pharmaceutical industry. I will consistently refer to the GlaxoSmithKline case to display the maleficent inner workings of the multinational pharmaceutical company. Glaxo was involved in the biggest health care fraud settlement in U.S. history for introducing and encouraging physicians to off label prescribe their patients six misbranded drugs, Paxil, Wellbutrin, Advair, Lamictal, Avandia and Zofran. Kickbacks were paid to physicians that prescribed those drugs but also for the drugs Imitrex, Flovent, Lotronex, and Valtrex. Glaxo also failed to report safety data to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Avandia, a diabetes drug. I find this issue to be so important because I hope to pursue a career in health law. My health policy major and relevant coursework ignited my interest in the legal issues strewn throughout our health care system. Boy Willie plans to buy the Mississippi land, which his family were slaves at, with the money he gets when he sells the piano. Unfortunately for him, Berniece declines his offer on selling the piano. She believes the piano should be kept due to it being the reminder of their family heritage. The piano resembles a totem pole since it has carvings and images of their family past. The piano symbolizes survival as well; the survival of the Charles family and all African Americans. The piano to Berniece abides a storybook, containing all the struggles their family has gone through, hence she would like to continue to keep it. However, she does not let her daughter, Maretha, know the history of the piano nor does she play or touch it due to the fact that Berneice does not wish to disturb the spirits. Ian McEwan uses a contemporary character to show the day in a life of a Londoner, with the aid of the narrator s voice throughout, there is a lot of symbolic imagery and strong statements. The narrator appears omniscient thought out this text, the effectiveness of this allows us to be emotionally attached to just Henry, and not allowing much use of imagination. Wonderfully Ian McEwan challenges the reader at moments of conflict, with morality in mind, to then following the view of Henry. Is the lierarture theme of following this character a metaphor for London? I believe this choice of narration is to cover up the sub lining of this piece of literature, which is power and identification of London through a single character. The use of the vocabulary in this novel is rather meticulous, every detail finely researched, a piece of fiction that educates the reader and questions. With the use of sleeping, working, entertaining themselves he writes humanly relatable actions, as if we were in fact a machine, a routine sequence that sub textually describes the character Henry, and with that in place, describes London. By linking moral behaviors to social roles and hierarchies, he emphasized that the stability of the government and society was directly correlated to the relationship between the ruler and the people. With the title Son of Heaven, the ruler was expected to act morally towards his subjects and treat them with love and concern ( Introduction to Confucian Thought , 2009). This idea is directly related to the concept of ren, which discusses the well being of others as the moral drive of society. He extended this idea into social harmony, being first and foremost embedded in the family. Confucius believed that the virtue of filial piety was the foundation for not just family life but also had implication for the ruler subject bond ( Mencius and his development of Confucian teachings , n.d.). Similarly, Mencius centered his teachings on this idea by stressing that the well being of the family directly corresponded to the well being of the state. Most importantly however, Confucius also discussed the importance of the ruler ruling over the people with virtue, which was achieved through ritual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Muslim Culture Summary The article is about an bicultural couple who are giving their daughter (Aliya) the choice of picking which culture she wants to express, whether it be her mother s (Krista s) American culture or her father s (Ismail s) Muslim culture. Much to the dismay of her mother, Aliya chooses her Muslim culture on the basis that she wants to begin wearing a headscarf. While Krista doesn t mind Aliya s choice, and even advocates self expression, the appearance of a white, blonde lady dressed American like (jeans and a tank top) with a young child in a headscarf doesn t quite paint your everyday picture of a normal family; especially when going to the grocery store. These pursuits have included regional oxygen saturation in the brain (as in near infrared spectroscopy), EEG, heart rate variability, skin conductance and neurohumoral responses. Although each appears to be an objective metric that may reflect the neonate s response to a painful stimulus, some of the metrics under investigation are invasive, others reflect a time course that may not correspond to the level of stimulation, and others remain imprecise. Parenteral morphine is usually given intravenously either by intermittent dosing, continuous infusion or in a nurse controlled analgesia (NCA) regimen. (211) Subcutaneous morphine is also used. The pharmacokinetics and clinical use of morphine in neonates have been reviewed extensively. In neonates 1 7 days of age, the clearance of morphine is markedly diminished, being 30 % of that of older infants and children. As a result, the elimination half life is approximately 1.7 fold greater than in older children . Infusion rates and dose intervals must therefore be adjusted according to both age and weight of the neonate, to avoid accumulation. (212) Fentanyl Fentanyl is a synthetic, high potency (100x morphine) lipid soluble opioid; its main use is for intraoperative analgesia where its rapid onset, short initial half life, and cardiovascular stability at larger doses are an advantage. Fentanyl is also used by infusion in ICU, and it has some advantages for procedural pain owing to its rapid onset. High dose fentanyl has been associated with chest wall rigidity and subsequent difficulty in ventilation. Accordingly, large doses are usually given only when respiration is controlled. For the purpose of this essay, I will be evaluating the factors that influenced the result of the 2010 UK general election. The general election was held on Thursday 6th May 2010 and was the first election since 1974 to result in a hung parliament, as no party achieved the 326 seats needed to for an overall majority. The three main parties were the Conservatives, whose party leader was and still is David Cameron, Labour, whose party leader was Gordon Brown and the Liberal Democrats, whose party leader was and still is Nick Clegg. The party with the highest share of seats were the Conservatives, who achieved 307 seats out of a possible 650. The party with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research by Whiteley and Seyd (2002) backs up this claim as they note that the decline in party membership and party activism has been documented by grass roots party members in the UK for over ten years. Whiteley (2006) further supports this claim as he notes that there has been a weakening of partisan attachments within the electorate, and that over time there has been a long term decline towards party identification. He goes on to note that in 1964, when surveys first started to be used, almost 50% of the electorate had strong party identification towards a particular political party, but by 2001 this had reduced to only 13% of the electorate. He concluded by saying that although party identification had clearly declined over the years, the majority of voters still have some form of partisan attachments, although clearly a lot weaker than it once was. Meaning voters can now be more easily persuaded to switch parties. Research by Budge, Newton, McKay and Bartle (1998) also show that there has been a decline in party identification. They state that between the years 1945 to 1970, 44.8% of the electorate described themselves as being Conservative, 46.8% as Labour, 7.1% as Liberal Democrats and only 1.3% identified themselves as having attachments with other smaller parties. • 33. Women s Role In The Middle Ages From Submission to Equally: The Struggle Continues Women as social agent played a secondary role in the middle ages. That condition keeps them away from any participation in the direct taking of decisions. A special feature on women was strongly marked from the moment itself of their birth, not only by the social status to which they belonged, but for the genre. Women s role was always relegated to their husbands to whom they owed submission and obedience. Therefore, the female status remained on a clearly lower level than the male. Historic in the medieval world, life was established according to the social and religious order. Thus, following religious precepts, the woman, the weak creäture, should be always submitted to God, but also in her early life to the father, and then to the husband; if she could not be a virgin, holy or religious then, should be a wife and mother. Thus, as soon as the imposed education was assimilated on having married, those woman met one of its main goals: find a husband. INTRODUCTION The aim of this research was to look at the discrimination towards teenagers from certain family backgrounds, like stepfamilies, ethnic families and single parent families in council housing estates. The aim is to look at the age range of 13 18 years, as these youngsters have a tendency to be criticised more by society. With no thought that they are individuals with different morals and personalities. There is a high level of petty crime, recreational drugs, truancy and teenage pregnancy in this range of younger people. There is also a higher level of social exclusions for this age group. There is always a tendency to lay blame on their circumstances and backgrounds. It is not necessarily true that if you come from a less adequate background, that you are more likely to be an underachiever. If you give someone self esteem then they can always do better. People assume that they can pass judgement on someone else s life, which is labelling them as inadequate. Like traditional stereotypes, the teenager has been given a distorted image by the modern media (Int, 2003). Both young people and older adults deserve more choices in where and how they spend their time. Others should not dictate them, how and where. Walmart Smart Inventory System Essay Arnold Zio BUS 362 Spring, Miller Wal Mart S.M.A.R.T System I live close to a walmart in Burtonsville MD, so I decided to write this Paper on their Inventory System. Wal mart, the wholesale retail monopoly, focused on developing an RFID based electronic product code, or EPC. The electronic code would allow businesses to track shipments and inventory automatically through a system of tags and sensors. It was a potential replacement for the manual scanning of bar codes, a technology that itself revolutionized retail two decades earlier. Given the nearly non existent cost of bar codes relative to RFID, several in the industry said, the EPC was a solution in search of a problem. Wal Mart is testing LCD shelf tags from NCR that are powered and controlled by infrared light units on the ceiling and can be changed in real time, concurrent with changes at the point of sale registers. The Strengths of The SMART Inventory System are, the actual database has to be enormous. There are so many products that the Wal Mart keeps track of. All of which must be in the same database because products they don t carry will still scan and give all the detailed information of those Products. This is helpful because it allows people to return products from a Mega Wal Mart that carries a much larger stock than a regular Wal Mart. Other Strengths are that the SMART system is linked to the cash registers. When a product is sold, inventory is updated automatically. On hand counts are updated and on some products they are reordered automatically, depending on how many are left. With in addition to the RFID technology. Wal mart uses smart tag sensors on garments to track better inventory controls, Wal Mart workers will be able to quickly learn, which size of a particular brand product is missing, with the aim of ensuring shelves are optimally stocked and inventory ... PESTLE Analysis on Tesco Therefore, by discussing the environmental factors of PESTLE , in my personal opinion, I strongly believe that the Political , the Economic and the Legal environments have the most impact on Tesco as it operates internationally, in the United Kingdom and within 12 markets across Asia and Europe. For this very reason it very important to consider all possible, political, economic and legal structures, impacts and outcomes which might affect the overall success of the company as they play a major role in relation to one another. When looking at the political factors for Tesco, and, as it operates in a globalized environment with locations across the world, the company s performance is extremely influenced by the political and legislative functions of each country. In terms of legislations under employment, the government really encourages retailers to provide work place opportunities from, flexible, lower paid, local based jobs to highly skilled, paid, and centrally located jobs (Balchin, 1994) to meet certain demands relating to students, senior citizens and working parents. The company understands that while being in the retail industry, it has a large impact on individuals and the work place (the development of new stores may often be seen as a conflict to other retail sectors due to the fact that the traditional stores go out of business or are forced to cut certain cost in order to being able to compete) as being a fundamentally local and labour intensive sector. ... This news came shortly after Canadian firm Agrium Inc. had announced their plan to expand annual potash capacity by up to 40 percent at their Vanscoy mine. Uralkali s announcement sent ripples throughout the potash industry. Stock prices and profits fell as potash prices dropped by up to 25 percent. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their mine and production facility at Vanscoy has a current production capacity of over two million tons annually. Expansion projections of 750,000 tons would increase production levels by up to 40 percent. There are two main threats taking place in the industry environment. New rival BHP s Jansen mine in Saskatchewan is one of the largest and highest cost greenfield mines under development. The Jansen mine development would place BPH as one of the top five potash producers worldwide. Current demand and pricing strategy along with other factors indicate that it is unlikely that the Jansen mine will operate at full capacity of 8 million tons. With the exit of Uralkali from the BCP cartel; the price over volume strategy that has been in place for the global export market has ended, causing uncertainty in the potash market. Agrium s weakness in the market is their current annual production capacity of two million tons. Their smaller production capacity limits their ability to achieve greater market penetration. Demand for potash continues to increase with population growth and the need for more agricultural output to meet long term food demands. The authors concluded that while increasing gastroenterology capacity is important (i.e., capital and funding availability, plus searching the local labor market for gastroenterology physicians, nurses, and physician assistants), it may not be as beneficial as redirecting the focus on healthcare system process changes. Access limitations may be due to suboptimal management of current capacity rather than inadequate levels of capacity (Powell et al., 2009). As the largest healthcare system in the world, the VHA cannot rely solely on hiring and training more gastroenterology staff when process management is also in urgent need of simultaneous, coordinated improvement. As a response to this colossal demand to expand gastroenterology trained and credentialed providers to perform colonoscopy, a small number of VHA facilities and gastroenterology departments sought new and innovative ways to build provider and space capacity to mitigate this challenging, unmet need. Essay On Representing More People In Television Representing More People in Television Television is a form of media that has been around since the 1950 s and has made slow but steady progress in representing everyone since then. We have come a long way from the shows about a white American, upper middle class, nuclear family that lives in the suburbs. Today, representation in television is much broader, but still has shortcomings. From the 1950 s to the 1990 s, many shows were about families or a group of friends, such as The Brady Bunch, Cheers, and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Lucille Ball plays the lead role and breaks the stereotype that women aren t funny. But this is one of the few, if not, the only early television sitcom that breaks the mold of its time. Many shows and series of the first few decades of television feature women as the typical stay at home mom or the fragile damsel in distress that have very simple lines. However, that sentiment is changing drastically because of shows like Orange Is the New Black (OitNB), a show that is about a women s prison and the lives of the inmates. Many types of women are represented; women of color, LGBT women, and even women with mental illnesses. Each character is complex and portrayed realistically. No role is strictly designated as a villain, hero, love interest, or the one character that has to be saved. This is completely different from the roles that women played in the past.
