Essay On The Godfather

Contemporary Literature

Film Review The film, The Godfather, was released on March 24, 1972. The time period that the
movie was set in was 1945, which was the time period of the Mafia. This film is based around two
families fighting throughout the film. One of the main characters, Michael Corleone, changes
throughout the movie deciding whether or not he should join in on the family business and take his
fathers position (Vito Corleone) as Godfather. As a viewer, I did not enjoy this film due to the
darkness and wickedness behind it. Although, many believe it to be one of the greatest movies of all
time, in my opinion, the film was not a success.

Color being one element, was really used in the film helped and played a major role to help the viewer
see the obscurity and wickedness that lied within all of the characters. The colors were used to also
manipulate the way your mood fluctuated throughout the movie. Another strong element used was the
set design. The set was used to show what time period the movie was set in, but also where the Mafia
was mainly located throughout the movie. The dialogue furthermore showed and helped the viewer
really get the feel of where the characters are from, and their culture. The costumes additionally
played a major role in showing where the characters were from in the movie. The costumes helped
audiences get the full ambiance of the time period and moods of the characters. Also, there are many
scenes in the movie that make you anxious and on the edge of your seat. A specific example would be
the scene of the shooting of Sollozo and Mcclusky. This scene makes you question many things and
you do not know what is happening when Sollozo is speaking in Italian, which just adds suspense to
the viewer s emotions. The camera pans out of Michael s face and then, BOOM! Sollozo and
Mcclusky are dead. This is just one of the scenes that kept you in the verge of your seat and through
all of these elements, there was a permutation that worked in harmony to make

Machiavelli s View Of Human Nature
All the states, all the dominions, under whose authority men have lived in the past
and live now have been and are either republics or principalities. In Machiavelli s, The
Prince, timeless keys to a successful principality are examined. The keys are understanding
human nature, respecting that nature, and reaffirming that successful leadership can exist
in the same fashion yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Machiavelli s perspective of human nature is founded on the principle that people
in general don t want their culture changed by an outside influence. Machiavelli
demonstrates in the book that the nature of people is to defend who they are. When the
prince attempts to change their culture in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only through an understanding of the nature of his subjects, having an ability to
control his subjects, and possessing the means to defend his subjects can the prince truly
find the universal key to open the door to upholding the ideals of practical leadership.
When a prince understands the nature of the people it is easier for him to enter the land.
Machiavelli writes of the Romans and how they developed their empire, the Aetolians
once brought the Romans into Greece; and in every other country they invaded, the
Romans were brought in by the inhabitants. Because the Romans understood human
nature their movement into power was unchallenged. Once in power it is essential for the
prince to be able to control the people. I say that a prince must want to have a reputation
for compassion rather than cruelty: none the less, he must be careful that he does not
make bad use of compassion. When Machiavelli wrote this he was outlining the key to
controlling the people. The prince needs to be able to keep the people united, and loyal to
him and at the same time ensure respect for the laws by instilling a fear for punishment.
One of Machiavelli s most used examples of a successful prince is Cesare Borgia. It is
essential to be feared not hated and in the case of Borgia his minister Remirro de Orco
punished law breakers in a cruel fashion that led to people hating Borgia. To create a

Appliance Maker the Challenge
Case 1: Appliance maker
The challenge
Senior executives at a large, low cost manufacturer of appliances and white goods were concerned
about the sluggish performance of the company s household fan business. It had long been among the
top leading players in the company s home country an emerging market but was now losing domestic
share in two important, and fiercely competitive, product categories.
The company s leaders suspected that a stagnant product portfolio was partly to blame; they had been
focusing a considerable amount of attention on operations and had neglected to revisit fan designs for
a couple of years. Meanwhile, an innovative upstart, also from an emerging market, had begun
competing with the manufacturer, both at home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet the teardown showed that as compared with competitors, the company was overbuilding its
products significantly and that identical or even better product performance was possible at a lower
cost if the team was willing to rethink its design approaches.
Some of the resulting design changes were quite straightforward and even, in retrospect, obvious. Yet
the team acknowledged that the new ideas didn t click until the teardown, when the evidence was
spread out on the table for discussion. By modifying the cover of one type of household fan, for
example, the team made it unnecessary to include an internal bracket assembly that had supported the
original cover a savings of 7 percent per unit. This change, like most cost saving opportunities the
team identified, was invisible to customers and didn t matter to them (for an example of one model,
see diagram).
Many of the individual cost saving opportunities the team identified were small. But the collective
impact was huge helping the company to reduce the total cost of manufacturing its fans by more than
10 percent, against a cost base that was already quite competitive. Meanwhile, consumers received the
new designs well, and that contributed to a 50 percent jump in operating profit in the first year of their
introduction and helped elevate the company to the number two spot in the market (up from number
three) over that time span.

Without insurance company, the market is at equilibrium at point A. So, at that point people would not
mind preferring selecting public care. But with copayment health insurance, consumers pay the lower
price of P2 and quantity increases to Q2. Since payment is also done by the insurance company then
people seek better quality of services which is provided by privatized health care. So, Its demand
increases in the country. But not all have insurance and cannot afford expensive private care. So, it is
very difficult to decide and assume the demand for privatized health care.
Pros and Cons Privatized Health care
Private health care is often criticized for being bloated, inefficient and inequitable; designed primarily
for the benefit of private health insurance companies. Nevertheless, we need to be aware of the
economic arguments in favors of private health care system. some pros and cons are discussed in

Estrogen Levels
Home
All men experience a drop in their levels of testosterone as they age. This usually begins as soon as
they are in their early 30 s. And though aging is nothing to fear, this natural diminishing of the
hormone causes unwanted side effects that can affect a man s fertility, sexuality, and health. This is
because low testosterone levels can lead to estrogen dominance in a man, and a hormone imbalance is
created. But to raise the testosterone levels, one must also lower the estrogen levels. Because of this,
some men are starting to use a natural anti estrogen product to help them regain their sense of
masculinity, so they look and feel younger.
Why Should Men Worry About Estrogen Levels?
Just as some people think that testosterone is strictly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Answer: There are many estroblockers available on the market. They all have different ingredients and
attributes that make them. To find the best one for you, do some research on each of them. But be sure
to only take the natural based kind because other pharmaceutical types can have some dangerous side
effects to them.
Question: Will changes to my estrogen levels affect my fertility?
Answer: Too much estrogen in a man s body decreases his sperm count and can also cause impotence
or difficulty performing sexually. By lowering high levels of estrogen, these negative effects are
reversed, so a man s fertility is improved.
Question: Will lowering my estrogen help with my acne?
Answer: Acne can be caused by an imbalance of hormones in the body, so by correcting this
imbalance, many men will find that their skin becomes clearer. However, initially there might be an
increase in acne until the hormones level out. Keeping the skin clean and free from oil and dirt will
also help to reduce blemishes though.

1. Why was the program needed in your state?
2. What functions did the program serve in your state?
3. What initial improvements were made by the program in your state?
4. What is the status of the program today? If it is still active, what goals does it now have? If it has
ended, when and why did it end?
5. What effects of the program can still be seen in your state today?
1. The program was needed in my state because young single men like me needed jobs to get money
for them and their family. This was a great way for them to get money and develop new skills as you
can use it to get a job like the other men when the country gets out of depression. They can learn to be
disciplined. Plus, this program is helping sustain the environment. The Great Depression plummet the
whole country s economy too deeply including Florida but two hurricanes in the South and an
outbreak of the Mediterranean fruit fly in a grapefruit orchard in Orlando caused the economy to
ultimately crash. This was a great way for them to get money and develop new skills as you can use it

Addison Disease Case Study
Primary Adrenal Insufficiency, better known as Addison disease is a chronic endocrine disorder that is
only present in only one in 100,000 people. Addison s disease is seen in two forms called primary and
secondary insufficiency. Primary adrenal insufficiency hails from the adrenal glands when specific
hormones like mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids, and androgens stop functioning due to damage
from autoimmune diseases, which makes the body attack itself because the immune system is being
tricked into thinking the adrenal glands are enemies, instead of being allies. Because of this reason, the
immune system tries it s best to destroy it at all costs. Secondary adrenal insufficiency occurs when
the adrenal glands are affected by something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The primary symptoms of Addison s disease include fatigue, weight loss, darkening of your skin,
muscle weakness, and weak, irregular pulse. The secondary hypofunction is almost identical to the
primary Addison s symptoms except without darkening of the skin, which is also called
hyperpigmentation. If you re not treated ASAP Addison disease will degrade into addisonian crisis.
The symptoms of addisonian crisis is shock due to insufficient blood in the body, pain in the lower
back, abdomen, or legs.
Addison s disease is mostly caused by problems within the adrenal glands usually by autoimmune
disease like cancer, and HIV. The cause of secondary hypofunction is long time use or abusing steroids
and pituitary tumors and damage to the pituitary glands during surgery. The risk factors for getting
Addison s disease increase if you have autoimmune disease like cancer, type 1 diabetes or graves
disease, using blood thinners, and had a piece of your adrenal glands taken out during

Mistakes Ruining A Discovery
Can you mess something up and make a great discovery? Mistakes can ruin a discovery and mess it up
for everyone. Mistakes are not a key to making a discovery because it can cost when a mistake is
made and a mistake does not define a discovery.
It has been argued that, Mistakes are key to making discoveries because you can end up finding more
than you expect. You can discover something on accident that can lead to greatness. According to the
Utah State of Education Standing near the Magnetron one day while it was on, Spencer noticed the bar
of chocolate in his pocket had melted. He had a moment of realization. He asked for popcorn kernels,
and put them near the heat. Minutes later, the man we can thank for microwave popcorn had a
discovery on his hands. This supports my claim because spencer had left a candy bar in his pocket that
melted on accident but that lead to a lifetime discovery. People all around the world microwave
popcorn. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It took almost 20 years after the melted chocolate moment to bring a commercial microwave to the
public. The equally important process after discovery is also ignored. Scientist need to test their ideas
with care and make as few mistakes as possible (Sanchez). This supports my claim because its saying
how you can t just make a discovery with one mistake it took a while to process and be able to
confirm the discovery.According to Thomas Edison inventing was 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent
perspiration. The typical role of a mistake in science is not a brilliant invention, but to teach a scientist
to do better next time. This also supports my claim because mistakes do not lead to a discovery there
is a lot more to decide if it is a worthy

one. Hillary Clinton, Martin O Malley, Ben Carson, etc. Marco Rubio s campaign, in particular, relies
on a overly sentimental appeals as well as combination of fallacies resulting in a scare tactic. Marco
Rubio s presidential campaign website poses several questions on the front page, asking if you want to

Differences Between Fanon And De Tocqueville
Despite the fact that one cannot force a national identity, the drive to mold and create one runs deep in
both Fanon s and de Tocqueville s writings. At this point, the differences in background and the
purposes of writing between our two authors becomes apparent. De Tocqueville s project with Algeria
aims to investigate the best way to colonize with the least detriment to the French. Given that the
colonists had already deposed the old government to install their own at the time of his writings, de
Tocqueville identifies a few sources of danger for the French in Algeria and proposes a path forward.
At the time, the French had plans to unseat a remnant government in Constantine in the east of Algiers
and ally with Abd el Kader in the west of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both believe that the identity has to flow from the bottom up (that is to say that it must be based on the
desires and cultures of the people), realize that a shared identity is paramount to the security of a
nation, and even share the opinion that violence creates new and strengthens old identities. Even
moreover, both recognize that one state with two strong national identities cannot be beneficial for all
people: de Tocqueville in his analysis of Abd el Kader, and Fanon explicitly writing that the two
confront each other, but not in the service of a higher unity... there is no reconciliation possible, one of
them is superfluous (Fanon 4). The two only theoretically diverge on the ease of establishing a unified
culture. Furthermore, they practically diverge on the end goals of of national identity and the resulting
class structure. It clearly follows, then, that the primary difference between Fanon and de Tocqueville
s take on national identity stems purely from their respective positions in life, the anti colonialist
against the

How Is Walt Disney World Changing With The American Dream
In the years 1914 1945 the world was changing and advancing in many ways. Someone once said,
Peace is the beauty of life. It is sunshine. It is the smile of a child, the love of a mother, the joy of a

Summary Of Dr. Phil s Ten Relationship Myth
DR. PHIL The article labeled Ten relationship Myths by Dr. Phil is very insightful and thought
provoking text, organized in a number listed format and then each number presents a myth with
following bullet points of reasoning underneath. There were a few described Myths that personally
stuck out the most. The first myth states A great relationship depends on the great meeting of the
minds. He points out that partners will never fully be able to understand each other completely
because there are distinct psychological and physiological differences that make this completely
impossible. Recognize that a relationship is far more enjoyable when you re with someone who

Phil noted that men and women are wired differently and attempting to blur viewpoints is unnatural
and dangerous. When couples try to insist their viewpoints on each other, it often starts ego conflict
that can be harmful to the self esteem. Which ties in with Myth #3 Great relationships cause great
problem solving. Ironic myth, right? The ability to problem solve seems to be a key component in
healthy relationships? Dr. Phil embellished on this by pointing out that 90 percent of conflicts in
relationships are unsolvable, and you can still be happy even if you and your partner can t solve
disagreements. There are things that you and your partner disagree about and will continue to disagree
about. Why can t you once and for all resolve these issues? Because in order to do so, one of you
would have to sacrifice your values and beliefs. The textbook describes one of the dangers when
engaging in conflict is when power is unequally distributed by interpersonal power. Which causes the
other partner to feel unheard and weak in the relationship. Dr. Phil gives the advice that agreeing to
disagree is O.K.. If the problem is unsolvable, it s healthy to reach emotional closure this

Gone With The Wind Film Analysis
Gone With The Wind is classic a 1939 movie about the pre civil war to post civil war era. It was a
major step in the movie industry many people loved what the movie resembled and how it related to
the events that occured during that era. The movie is famously known for the scene where Rhett tells
Scarlet Frankly my dear, I don t give a damn. Soon after he leaves. It s also known for the scene where
Rhett is telling Scarlett that she needs kissing badly.
The film opens with Scarlett O Hara surrounded by admirers, but she is crushed when her father,
Gerald O Hara, tells her of Ashley Wilkes upcoming marriage to his cousin Melanie Hamilton.
Scarlett s father also reminds her of the importance and permanence of the land and their home, Tara,
but she is too distraught to listen to him.
At a barbeque the next day at Twelve Oaks, the neighboring plantation, Scarlett is surrounded by even
more admirers, but she is overtaken by jealousy when she sees Ashley and Melanie together. The
roguish Rhett Butler sees Scarlett on the staircase and expresses interest in her, but Scarlett corners
Ashley in the library to confess her love for him. When Ashley says they are too different to be
together and leaves, Rhett reveals he has been listening the whole time.
The war quickly follows. Scarlett agrees to marry Charles Hamilton and holds the ceremony a day
after Ashley and Melanie wed. Soon after, Scarlett receives a letter informing her of Charles s death in
the war. Scarlett travels to Atlanta to stay with Melanie and her aunt, and while there she meets Rhett
again. Now a cynical war hero, Rhett pays $150 to dance with Scarlett at a charity ball. Those
listening are shocked by the offer, but Scarlett seizes on his offer as her only chance to dance, since
she is in her mourning period, and agrees. Afterward, Rhett visits her regularly.
The South begins to crumble as the war continues and deaths mount. Scarlett works as a volunteer
nurse tending to wounded and dying soldiers. She still pines for Ashley, who during his leave makes

Physical Therapy Is The Health Profession
Physical therapy is the health profession that provides treatment and management of physical
disability, malfunction, or pain via various modalities, and without the use of medicines, surgery, or
radiation [1]. An individual who practices physical therapy is known as a physical therapist. Physical
therapists are experts of the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems, and they evaluate and treat
patients for issues that involve those systems [2]. The role of a physical therapist is to evaluate
patients, and to provide treatment to patients that focus primarily on movement. This includes, but is
not limited to, restoration of movement as well as improving movement, reducing pain levels,
returning function that may have been lost, and improving function.[2] The most predominant clinical
setting where physical therapists... provide care include hospitals, outpatient clinics, private practices,
nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home health, school systems, and sport centers [2]. Typically,
to receive access to the services provided by a physical therapist, a patient has to be referred to a
physical therapist by a physician. [2] Therefore, physical therapy is usually a secondary health care.
The profession of physical therapy sounds fantastic, because it is. However, the art of physical therapy
wasn t just born a perfect creature; it took some time to develop as a great profession.
The official history of physical therapy is a history that is quite new, and barely dates

The Roles of Women in Medieval Scandinavia Essay
When people think about Medieval Scandinavia they usually think about a cold northern region
inhabited by a warrior people who spend all of their time sailing around in Viking warships and
plundering from one another or going to war with their neighbors. While our archaeological evidence
from this period may be rather scarce, many cite the Scandinavian pagan religions as a evidence of
this warrior society due to the fact that men were encouraged to fight in order to be chosen by the gods
to live in Valhalla, the pagan equivalent, loosely equivalent, of heaven. However, this only accounts
for the men of the society, and no society can continue if it consists only of men. Were the women as
concerned with war as their male comrades? Recent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Norse pagan lore is rife with female characters that challenge their male counterparts and take tasks
upon themselves rather than simply leaving them to men, in some cases of pagan myth, the female
characters even participate in battles. Scandinavian society itself also contributed to allotment of
power into female hands. Due to societal expectations, in order to advance in society the Scandinavian
man was required to find a wife and produce offspring; however, due to the overall scarcity of women
only a small number of men could achieve this and the rest were forced to look elsewhere for brides,
these men were the Vikings who raided other lands and countries not merely to find wealth but also to
find themselves wives. All of this evidence culminates in the fact that women in Scandinavia held a
very different position than was previously believed and one such woman who is an exceptional
example of the utilization of this power is Margaret I, Queen of Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. For
these reasons we are lead to believe that there existed an expected realm of responsibility for both men
and women throughout medieval Scandinavian society; however it also seems to have been expected
that some women would go beyond these social limitations in order to take power and occasionally
even participate in battle, and

Beyonce Feminist Analysis
When Beyonce stood in front of a large LED screen that displayed FEMINIST at the 2014 VMA
awards, like minded women everywhere cheered. There stood a celebrity who did not shy away from
the word that had become similar to a curse. Very few women were willing to own up to the title of
Feminist before Beyonce did. It is, perhaps, a leftover sentiment from the raging second wave of
feminism, the so called bra burners who would protest Miss America Pageants. Today, Feminism
attempts to speak for a broader definition of women than in the past. In the midst of the second wave
of feminism, non white women were still trying to be heard in the feminist movement. In the
Combahee River Collective, Black Women state that, The only people who care enough about us to

feminists who are unafraid to embrace their femininity. Rio Grrl is particularly famous for publishing

Persuasive Essay On LGBT Rights
The LGBT community has made progress towards gaining more rights in recent years, although it has
been an uphill battle. In the past year alone LGBT marriage has been legalized in Australia, Malta, and
Germany, with the legalization of LGBT marriage in the U.S. in 2015 also being a resounding success.
In addition, LGBT rights have also become a greater discussion topic in households, radio shows, and
broadcasts around the world. However, while a lot of progress has been made, LGBT individuals and
their allies are still struggling for the basic human rights they deserve.
Discrimination feels like a relic of the past something Americans struggled against and that was
outlawed in the 1960s. But this was not the case for LGBT individuals. Today, in America, land of the
free and the home of the brave, a lesbian can be fired simply for being gay. A gay couple can be
refused a wedding cake for the most important day in their life. A gay couple could be refused their
right to adopt a child. Much of this discrimination is chalked up to a concept called religious freedom.
Religious freedom is the right to deny service based on the idea that it conflicts with the business
owner s religious beliefs, and has been used most recently to defend discrimination against LGBT
people. The world has heard this argument many times before. According to the LA Times, 1960s...a

The Television Sitcom Friends By Virginia Kantra
The television sitcom Friends has the six main characters involved in many relationships throughout
each season. Since season one, Ross and Rachel have been referred to as the power couple, the glue
that holds everyone together, and according to television critics as CBS they are, probably the most
iconic TV couple in recent memory ( The Best TV 3). This being said, the couple was a known
favorite and attracted many people to the sitcom. This relationship is the favorite because it has what
an audience wants from a relationship. According to award winning, New York Times bestselling
author Virginia Kantra, audiences want relationships to have, physical attraction, emotional conflict,
and scenes that foster emotional intimacy (Kantra 1). The relationship that Ross and Rachel have is a
prime example of this all. It is known that Ross has a physical attraction to Rachel since grade school,
but Rachel also sitcoms her attraction to Ross with various flirtatious acts. Even though Ross and
Rachel seem to be the perfect couple, they have had their fair share of emotional conflict. The well
known we were on a break fight causes comical scenes between the two. Rachel will always make it
clear that Ross cheated on her, but Ross claims that they were on a break. The couple has an on and
off relationship throughout the sitcom because of these many conflicts. When the couple finally gets
together at the end of season ten, everything felt complete. As many Friends fans know, Phoebe

Police Enforcement And The Security Of The Virtual City...
Abstract
This essay is an examination of community policing as it relates to the interests of the Virtual City
Police Department. Advances in technology has changed police work, officers are incorporating
technology and sophisticated investigative techniques to solve crimes. This essay will focus on the
pros and cons of community policing in a modern society, where police officers must rely more on
technology and forensics than citizens to solve crimes and apprehend criminals.
Introduction
Police have been linked to citizens since the reform era redefined the nature of the relationship
between police and citizens (Kelling, Moore, 1988). The new model demanded an impartial law
officer who related professionally, neutrally, and in distant terms to citizens. Weaknesses in the model
were displayed through a decentralized organizational structure which failed to provide supervision to
patrol officers, resulting in a rise in police corruption (Kelling, Moore, 1988). Continuing reformations
put officers in automobiles reasoning that the automobile would increase the extent of the patrol and
give the officers a greater advantage over criminals (Kelling, Moore, 1988). As more officers patrolled
in automobiles the rapport of community relations was lost, officers were no longer an intimate part of
the community structure. The decline in contact between the citizens and police was not helped by the
centralization of precincts, as smaller

Gdp Per Capita As An Indicator Of Standard Of Living
GDP per Capita As an indicator of standard of living GDP per capita is the market value of the final
goods and services produced in a country during a given period per person (McDowell et al. 2012).
This could also be explained as a measure of quantity of goods and services available to a typical
resident of the country at a particular period. GDP per capita is used as an indicator of standard of
living because it reflects the accessibility of goods and services to a person. GPD counts only the
goods and services that have market value but they are just one of the measures of standard of living.
There are many other factors that affects standard of living and do not contribute to GDP, e.g.
environmental quality and leisure time (McDowell et al. 2012). China has been facing serious
ecological problem (e.g. water and air quality) while its economic grows. Nonetheless, environmental
quality cannot be bought or sold in the market, the issue is not demonstrated in China s GDP. Other
than that, leisure time available to a person can affect his standard of living. The person is better off if
he can enjoy more leisure activity. But leisure time is not priced in market, and it does not give a rise
in GDP. Another problem of using GDP per capita is that it neglects purchasing power. Table 1 Real

Anne Bradstreet In Reference To Her Children Essay
In 1678, many of Anne Bradstreet s poems were published for public view. Throughout her poems
Bradstreet tends to use symbolism to express her innermost thoughts and feelings. One of these poems
is In Reference to Her Children, 23 June, 1659. Three of the most significant symbols in this poem are
the representation of her family as a flock of birds, the dangers in the world, and the expression of her
feelings toward her children.
Anne Bradstreet s representation of her family as a flock of birds symbolizes two different things.
First, it symbolizes her connection to God and her desire to please Him. She represents herself and her
family as birds because they were also creations of God; however, they are not human, therefore they
do not sin. The bird family also symbolizes freedom. As her young grow up and spread their wings,
they leave the nest to fly on their own. This represents one of the facts of life; children grow up and
leave their parents homes to find their own way to make it in the world. ... Show more content on

Four have already left home, one will leave soon and the other three still dwell in the house with her.
She then begins to express the dangers of the world around her in a bird s point of view. For example,
she is afraid that her young will fall in a fowler s snare, be caught in a net or by birdlime on twigs, or
hurt by a hawk. In a human world a fowler s snare might be fallings into the hands of trickery,
robbery, or any other type of crime. Caught by net or birdlime might represent being in the wrong
place at the wrong time, and a hawk inflicted injury might symbolize being wounded or killed by an
Indian or criminal. She fears for the lives of her children and worries that harm will come to them.
This also represents an aspect of the parent child relationship. No matter how old children get, their
parents still worry about the things they do and the choices they

The Athletic Performance Of One Athlete Essay
Understanding how and why the athletic performance of one athlete might be better than another
athlete during a sprinting event but, alternatively, worse during an endurance event is multifaceted.
Factors such as body composition, muscle characteristics, energy availability, substrate utilization,
exercise demands, and prior training all play an important role in an individuals ability to participate
in a specific physical activity. Take for example two athletes, Runs Like a Deer (RLD) and Slow
Turtle (ST), running in the New York City Marathon. Although both athletes will be running on the
same day under the same environmental conditions their physiological make up, their ability to access
and breakdown energy substrate utilization, and the way in which both athletes trained prior to the
race will alter how both RLD and ST will handle the stress of a 26.2 mile run.
The following paper, which will explore why these two marathon runners can be expected to
experience the New York City Marathon in two completely different ways, will compare and contrast
how the above factors impact the athletic performance of both athletes. In order to clearly compare
and contrast the underlying causes of why RLD and ST will perform differently during the marathon
this paper will (1) outline the different metabolic pathways used during physical activity for adenosine
triphosphate (ATP) synthesis, (2) discuss the relationship between athletic performance, muscle
characteristics and athletic

Formative Assessment Reflection
The assessment practices that I feel are most important in my school is the usage of Common Core. It
requires students to analyze, synthesize, apply and evaluate information that is gained from reading
(Afflerbach, 2015). I have seen firsthand the positive effects of using Common Core especially in the
ELA discipline. It allows for higher order thinking skills versus the lower level questioning that the
students have been exposed to for so long.
Some assessment practices that I feel are in need of more emphasis in my school is the understanding
that reading is an active and complex process that understands written text (Afflerbach, 2015). Also,
seeing that there is a great need for using formative assessments set off a red flag for me. At my
school, we tend to focus on beginning with the end in mind and focus more on summative assessments
instead of formative assessments. After reading Afflerbach s article, I noticed that formative
assessment focus more on determining where the student is and what they need next in their
instruction (Afflerbach, 2015). Upon reading the article, I ve come to realize that formative
assessment drives the next steps of instruction and provides the teacher the means to understand where
they are coming from in order to get them to where they need to be.
Reflecting on my observations of my students, I feel that standardized testing has not been proven to
be in their best interest. Berliner states that no single indicator can assess a child s

Reflection In My Life
Over the course of this semester me and our group success have participated in a variety of activities
coordinated by the Counselor Mrs. Warren which touch on topics oriented around college, careers, and
ourselves as people. These activities taught us life skills that we can apply in our life. For example,
some of the activities included learning to do or determine our SMART goals, long term goals,
skills/strengths, values and making decisions based on them, pathways to our potential
career/education. Therefore, what we learned as a group with Mrs. Warren was how to apply those life
skills taught in everyday life, How we would reach point A to point B, and learn more about ourselves
as people.
Throughout my life I have always felt like I knew myself, but until recently I have never, truly known
myself. These traits are one of my utmost important values to me in the sense that they are what I do
my best to live by them. My five main values are creativity, compassion, empathy, love, and wisdom. I
value creativity since through that I am able to express myself. Compassion is important to me being
that I cannot be a bystander and forsake the people suffering or the guilt would eat me alive, knowing
I could have done something to help. Most of my life I have empathized with people, putting myself
in their shoes and feeling their emotions, so that Is why empathy is one of my core values in view of

American War And The American Civil War
In the beginning when America was uniting and trying to form its official government the northern
states and the southern states had already different greatly from each other. The North was
industrializing and working on expanding west and the South was booming with farming and its
famous cash crop. The North wanted to abolish slavery and the South did not. Since the North and
South had so many differences and could not keep a steady compromise, heavy tensions arose
between the North and the South which then caused the Southern states of America to decide to leave
the American Union and create their own Southern Confederacy. This tore our nation apart. The
American Civil War had begun and the very people that were once neighbors had each ... Show more

For example, farming was the main source of income for the Confederate states. The main southern
chief crop which came to be known as King Cotton, accounted for 57% of all U.S. exports ( Civil War
). However, in order to produce these large amounts of cotton, the southern Confederate states
depended heavily on slave labor. Since cotton production began to dominate and fuel the southern
economy, the South felt that they did not need to industrialize like their northern neighbors did. This
caused the South to manufacture very little goods and caused them to purchase manufactured goods
from the industrialized North or to purchase imported goods from overseas.
Unlike the Confederate South, the North decided to not utilize slave labor like the South did because
their economy did not call for farming that required large amounts of labor for rapid production. The
Union also decided to not utilize slave labor because slave labor was against many of the northerner s
morals. Since the North was industrialized and they manufactured goods, they had to compete with
other manufactures overseas. To demolish competition from the imported goods from overseas, the
northerners demanded high tariffs on the imported goods so that more people will buy the
manufactured goods from the North instead of the now more expensive imported goods from
overseas. The

The Importance Of Recess In Schools
Across America school districts continue negotiating as to whether or not recess is an essential part of
a child s school day. Recently there has been pressure to increase test scores in the United States.
Consequently, recess is being cut or reduced in order to provide children with additional instructional
time, but are breaks necessary for active learning? Recess is also a liability issue for schools since the
environment is more relaxed and more exposed to the outside world. Ever since we can remember
recess has been a vital part of the school day, but should that change? Will cutting recess improve
children s test scores?
This all started approximately five to ten years ago when nearly half of the schools in the United
States began to lessen recess time or even cut it entirely (Dills 890). Some schools are not even
building playgrounds anymore (Schachter 37). This occurred because of the push to increase test
scores and the incentives that go along with it. The higher the test scores, the more funding schools
receive. Therefore, schools are making sacrifices and doing the best that they can in order to receive as
much funding possible. A school cannot be run properly without sufficient support so cutting recess if
it in fact improves test scores is justifiable. As Anthony Pellegrini wrote in his book, to adults recess is
just playtime and has no actual value, but for kid s recess is important (181). This remains the reason
numerous districts are questioning

Implementing A Job Rotation Program Within An Organization...
Zachary Golden
Final Paper Outline
Abstract The focus of this study is the benefits gained by implementing a job rotation program within
an organization and the advantages gained by the employees and employer. There are four key areas
that can be affect by job rotation:orienting new employees, training employees, enhancing career
development and preventing job boredom. In this study, I propose that incorporating a well planned
job rotation schedule not only improves the productivity of an organization, but also increases the
overall job satisfaction of employees.
Organizational Description Job rotation is an approach to employee development, where a person is
developed through a scheduled rotation through tasks in order give the widest exposure to the entire
operation. It is also practiced, so that qualified employees are provided more insight into a company s
processes, and to reduce employee burnout and increase job satisfaction through varying work to
provide new challenges. At the most senior levels, job rotation or management rotation, is closely
linked with developing specific people to step into an existing job. In this situation the goal is to
provide learning experiences and position prospective managers in area that allow them assume a
higher level position in the future. While this practice is important to the growth of management in a
business, this study will focus primarily on the rotation of junior management and workers. Job
rotation involves the

Organization Structure and Inter Organizational Dependency:
The Environmental Imperative
Contingency theory and Systems theory are the two dominant theories that bring out the link between
organization structure and the environment. Systems theory has evolved over time and undergone
several transitions.
This study tries to provide a more meaningful understanding about closed and open systems by linking
with the object observer model from physics. Additionally, the paper gives a finer view of the
implications of the environment on the organization. It also captures several other areas like the role of

Organizational environment is not dealt as it is not a part of the external environment.
Open vs. Closed Systems
The whole idea of systems theory was under question in embracing the open systems view which was
diametrically against the traditional closed system view. The traditional closed system relied on the
concept of internal efficiency and stability and the organization theorists downplayed the role of the
environment. It was the open systems view which brought the role of environment to the forefront.
Open and closed system were held across a continuum and partially open and partially closed system
gained prominence. A typology of object systems is given in Table 2.
It is noteworthy that a super imposition of object systems as such into systems theory of organization
is not genuine. The observational phase of science consists of at least an observer and an object. The
behavior of all the objects are contextual and one who looks into the dynamics associated with the
behavior of an object in a particular setting is defined as an observer by the object systems. However,
different observers decode the same behavior in different ways. The same theory argues that process is
any activity that involves change which is measured by duration, succession and co existence. Thus,
only open and closed systems are of importance and were considered for the study of organizations.
The other two quadrants were between the two

The Dark Stories By Sylvia Plath
Do you ever wish you could take the worst moment of your life and experience it like it never

attended the Wooden Barn a school for the fragile. Casey, Sierra, Griffin, Marc, and Jam were all

stories by Sylvia Plath the only author they were going to read the semester. When the students finally

students were whisked back to the time of their life where they had not experienced their trauma. Each
of these students went through something like Sylvia Plath that differentiated them from normal teens
but because of Belzhar they were healed emotionally. Sierra s brother was missing, Jam s boyfriend
had died, and Casey is paralyzed but they got through it thanks to Belzhar. Sierra Stokes is from
Washington, DC and loves her little brother André. One night he went to the store to buy and never

  • 2. Essay On The Godfather Sarah Kull Jordan Contemporary Literature 18 October 2014 Film Review The film, The Godfather, was released on March 24, 1972. The time period that the movie was set in was 1945, which was the time period of the Mafia. This film is based around two families fighting throughout the film. One of the main characters, Michael Corleone, changes throughout the movie deciding whether or not he should join in on the family business and take his fathers position (Vito Corleone) as Godfather. As a viewer, I did not enjoy this film due to the darkness and wickedness behind it. Although, many believe it to be one of the greatest movies of all time, in my opinion, the film was not a success. The producer and director, Francis Ford Coppola is known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Color being one element, was really used in the film helped and played a major role to help the viewer see the obscurity and wickedness that lied within all of the characters. The colors were used to also manipulate the way your mood fluctuated throughout the movie. Another strong element used was the set design. The set was used to show what time period the movie was set in, but also where the Mafia was mainly located throughout the movie. The dialogue furthermore showed and helped the viewer really get the feel of where the characters are from, and their culture. The costumes additionally played a major role in showing where the characters were from in the movie. The costumes helped audiences get the full ambiance of the time period and moods of the characters. Also, there are many scenes in the movie that make you anxious and on the edge of your seat. A specific example would be the scene of the shooting of Sollozo and Mcclusky. This scene makes you question many things and you do not know what is happening when Sollozo is speaking in Italian, which just adds suspense to the viewer s emotions. The camera pans out of Michael s face and then, BOOM! Sollozo and Mcclusky are dead. This is just one of the scenes that kept you in the verge of your seat and through all of these elements, there was a permutation that worked in harmony to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Machiavelli s View Of Human Nature All the states, all the dominions, under whose authority men have lived in the past and live now have been and are either republics or principalities. In Machiavelli s, The Prince, timeless keys to a successful principality are examined. The keys are understanding human nature, respecting that nature, and reaffirming that successful leadership can exist in the same fashion yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Machiavelli s perspective of human nature is founded on the principle that people in general don t want their culture changed by an outside influence. Machiavelli demonstrates in the book that the nature of people is to defend who they are. When the prince attempts to change their culture in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only through an understanding of the nature of his subjects, having an ability to control his subjects, and possessing the means to defend his subjects can the prince truly find the universal key to open the door to upholding the ideals of practical leadership. When a prince understands the nature of the people it is easier for him to enter the land. Machiavelli writes of the Romans and how they developed their empire, the Aetolians once brought the Romans into Greece; and in every other country they invaded, the Romans were brought in by the inhabitants. Because the Romans understood human nature their movement into power was unchallenged. Once in power it is essential for the prince to be able to control the people. I say that a prince must want to have a reputation for compassion rather than cruelty: none the less, he must be careful that he does not make bad use of compassion. When Machiavelli wrote this he was outlining the key to

One of Machiavelli s most used examples of a successful prince is Cesare Borgia. It is essential to be feared not hated and in the case of Borgia his minister Remirro de Orco punished law breakers in a cruel fashion that led to people hating Borgia. To create a feeling ... • 5. Appliance Maker the Challenge Case 1: Appliance maker The challenge Senior executives at a large, low cost manufacturer of appliances and white goods were concerned about the sluggish performance of the company s household fan business. It had long been among the top leading players in the company s home country an emerging market but was now losing domestic share in two important, and fiercely competitive, product categories. The company s leaders suspected that a stagnant product portfolio was partly to blame; they had been focusing a considerable amount of attention on operations and had neglected to revisit fan designs for a couple of years. Meanwhile, an innovative upstart, also from an emerging market, had begun competing with the manufacturer, both at home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet the teardown showed that as compared with competitors, the company was overbuilding its products significantly and that identical or even better product performance was possible at a lower cost if the team was willing to rethink its design approaches. Some of the resulting design changes were quite straightforward and even, in retrospect, obvious. Yet the team acknowledged that the new ideas didn t click until the teardown, when the evidence was spread out on the table for discussion. By modifying the cover of one type of household fan, for example, the team made it unnecessary to include an internal bracket assembly that had supported the original cover a savings of 7 percent per unit. This change, like most cost saving opportunities the team identified, was invisible to customers and didn t matter to them (for an example of one model, see diagram). Many of the individual cost saving opportunities the team identified were small. But the collective impact was huge helping the company to reduce the total cost of manufacturing its fans by more than 10 percent, against a cost base that was already quite competitive. Meanwhile, consumers received the new designs well, and that contributed to a 50 percent jump in operating profit in the first year of their introduction and helped elevate the company to the number two spot in the market (up from number three) over that time span. • 7. Estrogen Levels Home All men experience a drop in their levels of testosterone as they age. This usually begins as soon as they are in their early 30 s. And though aging is nothing to fear, this natural diminishing of the hormone causes unwanted side effects that can affect a man s fertility, sexuality, and health. This is because low testosterone levels can lead to estrogen dominance in a man, and a hormone imbalance is created. But to raise the testosterone levels, one must also lower the estrogen levels. Answer: Too much estrogen in a man s body decreases his sperm count and can also cause impotence or difficulty performing sexually. By lowering high levels of estrogen, these negative effects are reversed, so a man s fertility is improved. Question: Will lowering my estrogen help with my acne? Answer: Acne can be caused by an imbalance of hormones in the body, so by correcting this imbalance, many men will find that their skin becomes clearer. Mistakes are not a key to making a discovery because it can cost when a mistake is made and a mistake does not define a discovery. It has been argued that, Mistakes are key to making discoveries because you can end up finding more than you expect. You can discover something on accident that can lead to greatness. According to the Utah State of Education Standing near the Magnetron one day while it was on, Spencer noticed the bar of chocolate in his pocket had melted. He had a moment of realization. Differences Between Fanon And De Tocqueville Despite the fact that one cannot force a national identity, the drive to mold and create one runs deep in both Fanon s and de Tocqueville s writings. At this point, the differences in background and the purposes of writing between our two authors becomes apparent. De Tocqueville s project with Algeria aims to investigate the best way to colonize with the least detriment to the French. Given that the colonists had already deposed the old government to install their own at the time of his writings, de Tocqueville identifies a few sources of danger for the French in Algeria and proposes a path forward. The Roles of Women in Medieval Scandinavia Essay When people think about Medieval Scandinavia they usually think about a cold northern region inhabited by a warrior people who spend all of their time sailing around in Viking warships and plundering from one another or going to war with their neighbors. While our archaeological evidence from this period may be rather scarce, many cite the Scandinavian pagan religions as a evidence of this warrior society due to the fact that men were encouraged to fight in order to be chosen by the gods to live in Valhalla, the pagan equivalent, loosely equivalent, of heaven. However, this only accounts for the men of the society, and no society can continue if it consists only of men. Were the women as concerned with war as their male comrades? Recent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Norse pagan lore is rife with female characters that challenge their male counterparts and take tasks upon themselves rather than simply leaving them to men, in some cases of pagan myth, the female characters even participate in battles. Scandinavian society itself also contributed to allotment of power into female hands. Due to societal expectations, in order to advance in society the Scandinavian man was required to find a wife and produce offspring; however, due to the overall scarcity of women only a small number of men could achieve this and the rest were forced to look elsewhere for brides, these men were the Vikings who raided other lands and countries not merely to find wealth but also to find themselves wives. All of this evidence culminates in the fact that women in Scandinavia held a very different position than was previously believed and one such woman who is an exceptional example of the utilization of this power is Margaret I, Queen of Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. For these reasons we are lead to believe that there existed an expected realm of responsibility for both men and women throughout medieval Scandinavian society; however it also seems to have been expected that some women would go beyond these social limitations in order to take power and occasionally even participate in battle, and ... In the past year alone LGBT marriage has been legalized in Australia, Malta, and Germany, with the legalization of LGBT marriage in the U.S. in 2015 also being a resounding success. In addition, LGBT rights have also become a greater discussion topic in households, radio shows, and broadcasts around the world. However, while a lot of progress has been made, LGBT individuals and their allies are still struggling for the basic human rights they deserve. Discrimination feels like a relic of the past something Americans struggled against and that was outlawed in the 1960s. But this was not the case for LGBT individuals. Today, in America, land of the free and the home of the brave, a lesbian can be fired simply for being gay. A gay couple can be refused a wedding cake for the most important day in their life. Advances in technology has changed police work, officers are incorporating technology and sophisticated investigative techniques to solve crimes. This essay will focus on the pros and cons of community policing in a modern society, where police officers must rely more on technology and forensics than citizens to solve crimes and apprehend criminals. Introduction Police have been linked to citizens since the reform era redefined the nature of the relationship between police and citizens (Kelling, Moore, 1988). The new model demanded an impartial law officer who related professionally, neutrally, and in distant terms to citizens. Weaknesses in the model were displayed through a decentralized organizational structure which failed to provide supervision to patrol officers, resulting in a rise in police corruption (Kelling, Moore, 1988). Continuing reformations put officers in automobiles reasoning that the automobile would increase the extent of the patrol and give the officers a greater advantage over criminals (Kelling, Moore, 1988). As more officers patrolled in automobiles the rapport of community relations was lost, officers were no longer an intimate part of the community structure. • 27. Gdp Per Capita As An Indicator Of Standard Of Living GDP per Capita As an indicator of standard of living GDP per capita is the market value of the final goods and services produced in a country during a given period per person (McDowell et al. 2012). This could also be explained as a measure of quantity of goods and services available to a typical resident of the country at a particular period. GDP per capita is used as an indicator of standard of living because it reflects the accessibility of goods and services to a person. GPD counts only the goods and services that have market value but they are just one of the measures of standard of living. There are many other factors that affects standard of living and do not contribute to GDP, e.g. environmental quality and leisure time (McDowell et al. 2012). China has been facing serious ecological problem (e.g. water and air quality) while its economic grows. Nonetheless, environmental quality cannot be bought or sold in the market, the issue is not demonstrated in China s GDP. Other than that, leisure time available to a person can affect his standard of living. The person is better off if he can enjoy more leisure activity. But leisure time is not priced in market, and it does not give a rise in GDP. Another problem of using GDP per capita is that it neglects purchasing power. Throughout her poems Bradstreet tends to use symbolism to express her innermost thoughts and feelings. One of these poems is In Reference to Her Children, 23 June, 1659. Three of the most significant symbols in this poem are the representation of her family as a flock of birds, the dangers in the world, and the expression of her feelings toward her children. Anne Bradstreet s representation of her family as a flock of birds symbolizes two different things. First, it symbolizes her connection to God and her desire to please Him. She represents herself and her family as birds because they were also creations of God; however, they are not human, therefore they do not sin. The bird family also symbolizes freedom. As her young grow up and spread their wings, they leave the nest to fly on their own. This represents one of the facts of life; children grow up and leave their parents homes to find their own way to make it in the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Athletic Performance Of One Athlete Essay Understanding how and why the athletic performance of one athlete might be better than another athlete during a sprinting event but, alternatively, worse during an endurance event is multifaceted. Factors such as body composition, muscle characteristics, energy availability, substrate utilization, exercise demands, and prior training all play an important role in an individuals ability to participate in a specific physical activity. Take for example two athletes, Runs Like a Deer (RLD) and Slow Turtle (ST), running in the New York City Marathon. Although both athletes will be running on the same day under the same environmental conditions their physiological make up, their ability to access and breakdown energy substrate utilization, and the way in which both athletes trained prior to the race will alter how both RLD and ST will handle the stress of a 26.2 mile run. • 30. Formative Assessment Reflection The assessment practices that I feel are most important in my school is the usage of Common Core. It requires students to analyze, synthesize, apply and evaluate information that is gained from reading (Afflerbach, 2015). I have seen firsthand the positive effects of using Common Core especially in the ELA discipline. It allows for higher order thinking skills versus the lower level questioning that the students have been exposed to for so long. Some assessment practices that I feel are in need of more emphasis in my school is the understanding that reading is an active and complex process that understands written text (Afflerbach, 2015). Also, seeing that there is a great need for using formative assessments set off a red flag for me. At my school, we tend to focus on beginning with the end in mind and focus more on summative assessments instead of formative assessments. After reading Afflerbach s article, I noticed that formative assessment focus more on determining where the student is and what they need next in their instruction (Afflerbach, 2015). Upon reading the article, I ve come to realize that formative assessment drives the next steps of instruction and provides the teacher the means to understand where they are coming from in order to get them to where they need to be. For example, some of the activities included learning to do or determine our SMART goals, long term goals, skills/strengths, values and making decisions based on them, pathways to our potential career/education. Therefore, what we learned as a group with Mrs. Warren was how to apply those life skills taught in everyday life, How we would reach point A to point B, and learn more about ourselves as people. Throughout my life I have always felt like I knew myself, but until recently I have never, truly known myself. These traits are one of my utmost important values to me in the sense that they are what I do my best to live by them. My five main values are creativity, compassion, empathy, love, and wisdom. I value creativity since through that I am able to express myself. Compassion is important to me being that I cannot be a bystander and forsake the people suffering or the guilt would eat me alive, knowing I could have done something to help. Most of my life I have empathized with people, putting myself in their shoes and feeling their emotions, so that Is why empathy is one of my core values in view of How are you going to understand someone if you cannot put yourself in their ... • 32. American War And The American Civil War In the beginning when America was uniting and trying to form its official government the northern states and the southern states had already different greatly from each other. The North was industrializing and working on expanding west and the South was booming with farming and its famous cash crop. The North wanted to abolish slavery and the South did not. Since the North and South had so many differences and could not keep a steady compromise, heavy tensions arose between the North and the South which then caused the Southern states of America to decide to leave the American Union and create their own Southern Confederacy. This tore our nation apart. The American Civil War had begun and the very people that were once neighbors had each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, farming was the main source of income for the Confederate states. The main southern chief crop which came to be known as King Cotton, accounted for 57% of all U.S. exports ( Civil War ). However, in order to produce these large amounts of cotton, the southern Confederate states depended heavily on slave labor. Since cotton production began to dominate and fuel the southern economy, the South felt that they did not need to industrialize like their northern neighbors did. This caused the South to manufacture very little goods and caused them to purchase manufactured goods from the industrialized North or to purchase imported goods from overseas. Unlike the Confederate South, the North decided to not utilize slave labor like the South did because their economy did not call for farming that required large amounts of labor for rapid production. The Union also decided to not utilize slave labor because slave labor was against many of the northerner s morals. Since the North was industrialized and they manufactured goods, they had to compete with other manufactures overseas. To demolish competition from the imported goods from overseas, the northerners demanded high tariffs on the imported goods so that more people will buy the manufactured goods from the North instead of the now more expensive imported goods from overseas. • 33. The Importance Of Recess In Schools Across America school districts continue negotiating as to whether or not recess is an essential part of a child s school day. Recently there has been pressure to increase test scores in the United States. Consequently, recess is being cut or reduced in order to provide children with additional instructional time, but are breaks necessary for active learning? Recess is also a liability issue for schools since the environment is more relaxed and more exposed to the outside world. Ever since we can remember recess has been a vital part of the school day, but should that change? Will cutting recess improve children s test scores? This all started approximately five to ten years ago when nearly half of the schools in the United States began to lessen recess time or even cut it entirely (Dills 890). Some schools are not even building playgrounds anymore (Schachter 37). This occurred because of the push to increase test scores and the incentives that go along with it. The higher the test scores, the more funding schools receive. Therefore, schools are making sacrifices and doing the best that they can in order to receive as much funding possible. A school cannot be run properly without sufficient support so cutting recess if it in fact improves test scores is justifiable. As Anthony Pellegrini wrote in his book, to adults recess is just playtime and has no actual value, but for kid s recess is important (181). This remains the reason numerous districts are questioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

David Sedaris An analysis of Remembering my Childhood on the Continent of Africa David Sedaris s narrative, Remembering my Childhood on the Continent of Africa, contrasts the author s formative years with those of his partner, Hugh Hamrick. Sedaris describes his childhood in North Carolina as unspeakably dull (297). Conversely, Sedaris seems to regard Hamrick s childhood, which included a field trip to an Ethiopian slaughterhouse (296) and a military coup in which forces sympathetic to the colonel arrived late at night to assassinate [his] next door neighbor (298 299) as foreign and exciting, if in an occasionally traumatizing sort of way. Nothing was going to prevent him from playing basketball at the professional level. His love for the game started in the opens gyms at his local YMCA. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday there was a open gym at his local YMCA from 7:30 9:00 which Lin and his brothers would attend (Evan Leong). Jeremy Lin was the second of three kids that Gie Ming and Shirley Lin had together (Lisa Olson). Lin and his brothers all shared their love for the game. The Lin family would always watch the professional basketballs games and the kids would say about how cool it would be to in those games when they were older. They did not know that his dream was reality. During the playoffs, Jeremy and his brothers would go outside during the timeouts and commercials and do all of the plays that just happened. Lin would be outside on that court whenever he had the chance (Evan Leong). If he wants something, he will do anything to get that thing, said Jeremy Lin s mom. During Lin s childhood the biggest struggle that he faced was racism. To this day it still happens, Lin will hear things like can you even open you eyes. Lin just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Implementing A Job Rotation Program Within An Organization... Zachary Golden Final Paper Outline Abstract The focus of this study is the benefits gained by implementing a job rotation program within an organization and the advantages gained by the employees and employer. There are four key areas that can be affect by job rotation:orienting new employees, training employees, enhancing career development and preventing job boredom. In this study, I propose that incorporating a well planned job rotation schedule not only improves the productivity of an organization, but also increases the overall job satisfaction of employees. Organizational Description Job rotation is an approach to employee development, where a person is developed through a scheduled rotation through tasks in order give the widest exposure to the entire operation. It is also practiced, so that qualified employees are provided more insight into a company s processes, and to reduce employee burnout and increase job satisfaction through varying work to provide new challenges. At the most senior levels, job rotation or management rotation, is closely linked with developing specific people to step into an existing job. In this situation the goal is to provide learning experiences and position prospective managers in area that allow them assume a higher level position in the future. While this practice is important to the growth of management in a business, this study will focus primarily on the rotation of junior management and workers. Job rotation involves the ... Organization Structure and Inter Organizational Dependency: The Environmental Imperative Contingency theory and Systems theory are the two dominant theories that bring out the link between organization structure and the environment. Systems theory has evolved over time and undergone several transitions. This study tries to provide a more meaningful understanding about closed and open systems by linking with the object observer model from physics. Additionally, the paper gives a finer view of the implications of the environment on the organization. It also captures several other areas like the role of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Organizational environment is not dealt as it is not a part of the external environment. Open vs. Closed Systems The whole idea of systems theory was under question in embracing the open systems view which was diametrically against the traditional closed system view. The traditional closed system relied on the concept of internal efficiency and stability and the organization theorists downplayed the role of the environment. It was the open systems view which brought the role of environment to the forefront. Open and closed system were held across a continuum and partially open and partially closed system gained prominence. A typology of object systems is given in Table 2. It is noteworthy that a super imposition of object systems as such into systems theory of organization is not genuine. The observational phase of science consists of at least an observer and an object. The behavior of all the objects are contextual and one who looks into the dynamics associated with the behavior of an object in a particular setting is defined as an observer by the object systems. However, different observers decode the same behavior in different ways. The same theory argues that process is any activity that involves change which is measured by duration, succession and co existence. Thus, only open and closed systems are of importance and were considered for the study of organizations. The other two quadrants were between the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Dark Stories By Sylvia Plath Do you ever wish you could take the worst moment of your life and experience it like it never happened? In Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer that is exactly what happened to five teenagers. These teens attended the Wooden Barn a school for the fragile. Casey, Sierra, Griffin, Marc, and Jam were all chosen to be in an odd class, Special Topics English. Mrs. Quenell their teacher had chosen the dark stories by Sylvia Plath the only author they were going to read the semester. When the students finally began to use their journals they were given, they began to experience this state of Belzhar. The students were whisked back to the time of their life where they had not experienced their trauma. Each of these students went through something like Sylvia Plath that differentiated them from normal teens but because of Belzhar they were healed emotionally. Sierra s brother was missing, Jam s boyfriend had died, and Casey is paralyzed but they got through it thanks to Belzhar. Sierra Stokes is from Washington, DC and loves her little brother André. One night he went to the store to buy and never returned. Sierra s family was devastated and Sierra was constantly contacting the detective even three years later. When Sierra went to Belzhar she experienced time with her brother. Worst of all no one really knew what she was going through. In Sierra s final time in Belzhar she had to experience losing André again and she could not leave him, so she stayed in Belzhar. Sierra was found in what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
