movie was set in was 1945, which was the time period of the Mafia. This film is based around two
families fighting throughout the film. One of the main characters, Michael Corleone, changes
throughout the movie deciding whether or not he should join in on the family business and take his
fathers position (Vito Corleone) as Godfather. As a viewer, I did not enjoy this film due to the

see the obscurity and wickedness that lied within all of the characters. The colors were used to also

race will alter how both RLD and ST will handle the stress of a 26.2 mile run.

Formative Assessment Reflection
The assessment practices that I feel are most important in my school is the usage of Common Core. It
requires students to analyze, synthesize, apply and evaluate information that is gained from reading
(Afflerbach, 2015). I have seen firsthand the positive effects of using Common Core especially in the
ELA discipline. It allows for higher order thinking skills versus the lower level questioning that the
students have been exposed to for so long.
Some assessment practices that I feel are in need of more emphasis in my school is the understanding
that reading is an active and complex process that understands written text (Afflerbach, 2015). Also,
seeing that there is a great need for using formative assessments set off a red flag for me. At my
school, we tend to focus on beginning with the end in mind and focus more on summative assessments
instead of formative assessments. After reading Afflerbach s article, I noticed that formative
assessment focus more on determining where the student is and what they need next in their
instruction (Afflerbach, 2015). Upon reading the article, I ve come to realize that formative
assessment drives the next steps of instruction and provides the teacher the means to understand where

Over the course of this semester me and our group success have participated in a variety of activities
coordinated by the Counselor Mrs. Warren which touch on topics oriented around college, careers, and

The Importance Of Recess In Schools
Across America school districts continue negotiating as to whether or not recess is an essential part of
a child s school day. Recently there has been pressure to increase test scores in the United States.
Consequently, recess is being cut or reduced in order to provide children with additional instructional
time, but are breaks necessary for active learning? Recess is also a liability issue for schools since the
environment is more relaxed and more exposed to the outside world. Ever since we can remember
recess has been a vital part of the school day, but should that change? Will cutting recess improve
children s test scores?
This all started approximately five to ten years ago when nearly half of the schools in the United
States began to lessen recess time or even cut it entirely (Dills 890). Some schools are not even
building playgrounds anymore (Schachter 37). This occurred because of the push to increase test
scores and the incentives that go along with it. The higher the test scores, the more funding schools
receive. Therefore, schools are making sacrifices and doing the best that they can in order to receive as
much funding possible. A school cannot be run properly without sufficient support so cutting recess if

happened? In Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer that is exactly what happened to five teenagers. These teens
attended the Wooden Barn a school for the fragile. Casey, Sierra, Griffin, Marc, and Jam were all
chosen to be in an odd class, Special Topics English. Mrs. Quenell their teacher had chosen the dark
stories by Sylvia Plath the only author they were going to read the semester. When the students finally
began to use their journals they were given, they began to experience this state of Belzhar. The
students were whisked back to the time of their life where they had not experienced their trauma. Each

but because of Belzhar they were healed emotionally. Sierra s brother was missing, Jam s boyfriend
had died, and Casey is paralyzed but they got through it thanks to Belzhar. Sierra Stokes is from
Washington, DC and loves her little brother André. One night he went to the store to buy and never
