The During The Civil War Era
Between the 1900s and 1975 the United States experiences growth in many areas of higher education
(HE). Various publications, people, acts and legislation influenced change in thought, access, policy,
practice, and assessment of HE. From the Civil War Era to the Mass Education Era we witnessed the
struggle of African Americans that influenced important legislation, the Progressive Movement and
the birth of the Wisconsin Idea, the publication and revision of the Student Personnel Point of View,
the President s Commission on Higher Education, and the passing of the Higher Education Act. All of
which contributed to the growth of HE during this time period. Very few free Blacks had the
opportunity to attend college during the Civil War Era. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the Reconstruction Era ended so did the market for professional job opportunities for African
Americans. An area for work opportunity for African Americans was seen in the industrial labor
markets. Booker T. Washington, a freedman and graduate of the Hampton Normal and Agricultural
Institute, was one of the biggest advocated for the pursuit of practical training and manual labor for
African Americans. He was a teacher and later elected president at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama
(now the Tuskegee University). There he trained Black students to become teachers, farmers, and
construction workers. Many students were apart of a work study program and helped construct
buildings at the Tuskegee Institute. Around the same time, another freedman, W.E.D Du Bois had his
own ideas about African American education. He was a Harvard graduate; the first African American
to received a doctorate degree, and a co founder of the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP). He criticized Washington s vocational style of education and argued that it
promoted submission to White Southern rule. He gained followers and led student protests at
Hampton, Howard, and Fisk in the 1920s. As a result of the protests, the first Black president at
Howard was elected in 1926 (Allen Jewell 2002). Today, more than 100 HBCU still remain in the U.S.

Voting Rights Act Pros And Cons
I have come to a realization that the United States of America has taken a huge step back into history.
Instead of learning from our past and growing we have elected a President that only brings racist
remarks symbolizing everything that the United States does not identify as. Due to the election it has
brought us much awareness of how ignorant the people who were elected into office to be the people s
voice. We have accomplished many things as a society, but still render the key elements to take the
blindfold of the ignorance that hovers around people. The Voting Rights act has been dismantled and
sadly, we are returning to our racists background, or maybe we just never acknowledged them until we
elected a blatant racist president. The Voting Right s act represents a huge faze in our History of how
we transformed into a more welcoming society for all people no ... Show more content on

As everyone may know The Daily Show is a widely popular show that informs viewers of current
news through humour (John,2017). The Daily show had an episode dedicated to why Shelby county
wanted to get rid of sec 4(b) and 5 of the voting rights act (John,2017). Supposedly Voting I.D laws
was a suggestion to prevent voting fraud which was assessed to having 1 to 2 cases not 1,000 to 2,000
but simply 1 to 2 cases (John,2017). It s a non ethical approach because there have only been 1 to 2
cases of fraud which does not call for an extreme tactic of presenting I.D laws (John,2017). The Daily
show dived into how the voting I.D laws was a strategic ideal to incorporate all these restrictions to
stop the Democratic party (John,2017). By going after black Latino they would overall halt the
Democratic party because they mainly vote democrat (John,2017). Thankfully the voting ID laws
were shut down in Alabama, but has started an uproar in the south

Poetry On Acid By Mark Strands
Poetry On Acid
In Mark Strands Eating Poetry, the author tells a story of an altered view of a mundane task, taken
with a view not normally experienced by restrained society. Right or wrong as the author s actions
may be, the poet s description of his interactions is quite engaging. Expressed in three six line stanzas,
the writer flows through the highs and lows of an exceptionally intense literary experience.
In the first stanza, Strand starts his first line with the usage of intense imagery. Ink runs from the
corners of my mouth. His usage of imagery grabs the reader s attention and has us immediately
wondering why ink is coming from the corners of his mouth. Ink is such an odd thing for someone to
have coming from their mouth, and with that one line Strand has made us long to read more. Ink is
also traditionally highly toxic, suggesting the writer may have a wish to die a slow, agonizing death.
The second line talks about how happy he is, seemingly in conflict with the first line. This portrays
that he enjoys eating ink and is rather happy with himself, as maddeningly illogical as this may be.
Line three is an example of a metaphor. We learn that the reason he has ink in his mouth is because he
was eating poetry. Reality seems to be at odds with what the writer is experiencing, as there would be
no way for the ink to still be liquid. Perhaps the sanity of the writer is in question, and it could be that
as he reads the lines of verse he is merely imagining them as

Skin Cancer Essay
Cancer , its a disease that has claim the lives of millions, its a disease that so far has no known cure,
and its a disease that has many different forms. Cancer is defined as a malignant form of tumors,
which are tissue masses that arise through mutations in the genes that govern cell growth and division
(Starr, 1999, p. 213). Skin cancer is just one of the many forms of cancer that effects us and is the
most common cancer in the U.S. Like so many others, I would assume that the major cause of skin
cancer was the ultraviolet rays from the sun. However, there are other factors involved. Our DNA
plays a major role in how cancer affects us, it has a major role in genetics too, therefore,
environmental and heredity both are factors that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One form of skin cancer is melanoma, is the rarest but the most virulent of the skin cancers. It is
responsible for 75% of all deaths from cancer. It is a cancer that arises in the melanocytes, the cells
that produce melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives our skin, hair, and eyes their color and that
allows us to tan (Schofield Robinson, 2000, p. 1). Melanocytes are located throughout the body, in the
retina of the eye and in the linings of the mouth, nose, anus, rectum, vagina, and spinal cord,
(Schofield Robinson, 2000, p. 6). However, majority of them are located in the skin. The purpose of
these cells are to make melanin to protect our skin cells from the sun s ultraviolet rays (UV rays). The
melanocyte cells are found between the dermis (the second layer of skin) and the epidermis (the
outermost layer of skin). Normally every ten cells found within the epidermis and dermis are
melanocytes the others are cells called keratinocytes. Melanin is made inside the melanocytes then is
transferred along the cells long arms (dendrites) to nearby keratinocytes in the epidermis. Melanoma
arises when there is an uncontrollable increase in the reproduction of melanocyte cells. Although, skin
cancer mostly develops just below the skin s surface, where an existing mole is located, it can get into
the blood vessels and lymphatic

What Happened To Hannah Baker s 13 Reasons Why
Have you ever been so depressed and upset that you feel like you can not live anymore? Like
everything is just a waste of time? Everything anyone does wrong just pushes you over the edge. That
is exactly what happened to Hannah Baker in 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Hannah is about 16 or
17. Just a normal girl in a normal town. Until she commits suicide. The town is in shock when they
heard she did it. No one understood it. Until one day Clay Jensen opened his front door to 13 cassette
tapes just sitting on his porch. He had no clue where they came from. They were all clearly marked in
the order they should be listened to. He put the first one in not knowing what would happen. Out of
the speakers Hannah s voice is heard. He is in shock. Hannah is dead. How could this happen? Did she
make these tapes before she killed herself to tell people why? Through the speaker was 13 peoples
names, each on a separate tape. They were claimed to be the reasons she did what she had done. She
said to keep what was on the tapes only between these 13 people. She made it clear to make sure you
listen to all of them or there would be consequences. So Clay did exactly what he was ... Show more

A guy smacking a girls butt is an example of this. This is what happened to Hannah. A cupped hand
grabbed my ass (Cassette 1 Side B). She claimed that this was one of the reasons as to why she
committed suicide. I am sure that all the other 13 reasons contributed to it, but I feel like this should
not have even been put in here because of how irrelevant it is to why people commit suicide today. If
someone right now were to come up to just about any girl in high school right now and smack their
butt, of course they will be super angry. I do not think anyone would think of committing suicide over
that. Of course you have no idea what is going on in that person s life at the time, but that is not a
reason to be added to why you would have done it in the first

Abd Al-Malik s The Dome Of The Rock
Although the initial purpose seemed to be for Abd Al Malik s ego, the Dome of the Rock embodies
significant religious meaning and Islamic principles in the architecture itself. The design may have
been inspired by the Sufis who came to live in Jerusalem from a very early date. Sufis are the mystics
of Islam and would find deeper connections to Allah through art. In Islam, figurative art is forbidden
in places of worship because God is beyond human understanding, but art utilizing patterns and
shapes of geometry were permitted. This is why tessellations have been a significant portion of
Islamic art since the very beginning. According to Karen Armstrong, [the art] pointed to the
underlying structure of existence to which Muslims must attune

Microbial Fuel Cells use bacteria to convert waste into...
Microbial Fuel Cells use bacteria to convert waste into electrical energy. These bacteria break down
almost any biodegradable organic waste including sewage and water waste and use it as fuel to
generate power. Places like Penn State University and The Biodesign Institute in Arizona State
University are already testing and improving this new alternative energy. According to Penn State
University they have achieved in producing 1.5 watts per meter squared of amount of waste water
taken in and believe that a large industrial plant will be able to produce near 0.8 watts per meter
squared and will be able to support about 500 homes (9). This is a new technology that is being avidly

This cell uses bacteria like Shewanella oneidensis and Rhodoferax ferrireducens and many labs are
attempting to find better strains of bacteria more suited to the process (3). This fuel cells work in two
parts. Basically, the microbial fuel cell has two halves, aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic means with
presence of oxygen, anaerobic means a lack of oxygen. When bacteria consume their food in aerobic
conditions they produce carbon dioxide and water, however when it s in an anaerobic condition they
produce carbon dioxide, electrons and protons. The MFC has the bacteria put in the anaerobic
chamber of the cell and decompose water material that contain glucose and/or acetate. The bacteria
also free hydrogen ions and electrons. The electrons flow from an anode into the cathode. The
hydrogen ions however just pass through the barrier; soon the electrons and hydrogen ions are in the
aerobic chamber and combine with the oxygen forming h2o. The H2O is released and electrical
energy is produced from the transfer off the energy between the Anode and Cathode (or Anaerobic and
Aerobic chambers).
Microbial Fuel Cells have a large variety of benefits due to its versatility and choice of fuel.
Firstly it can use most biodegradable organic matter including human and animal waste, sewage, etc.
This is great as there is no limit to the fuel and it is easy to find. Secondly, it reduces cost

The Conquest of Polio, a Story of Rivalry and Success Essay
As recently at the 1950 s, polio was a common disease in the United States. It was first detected as
early as 1789 when doctors recorded small outbreaks of an odd disease accompanied by fever,
paralysis and a tendency to attack children. It wasn t until the summer of 1916, however, that the
public began to pay attention. Twenty seven thousand people were paralyzed that summer from polio,
with most of the victims being children. This is why the disease was called infantile paralysis,
although adults also were stricken by the disease (Smith, An Icon 36 40). It was later renamed
poliomyelitis, referring to the characteristic inflammation ( itis) of the gray (polios) anterior matter of
the spinal cord (myelos). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Body parts often shriveled up and became entirely useless as muscled atrophied. More severe initial
symptoms were flu like, including severe muscle pain, headaches, fever, sore throat, stomachache, and
other problems. Parents feared this disease with good reason. Often victims had to spend the rest of
their lives in a machine called an iron lung which enabled them to breathe by mechanically
compressing their chests. The iron lung was a large metal tube built around a bed on which patients
had to lie for the duration of their lives (Smith 63 69). Additionally, stricken people were more
susceptible to infections like pneumonia which gradually weakened and sometimes killed them. The
epidemic appeared to be growing worse each year and it seemed that a miracle would be needed to
stop any further death and paralysis. At the peak of the rampage in 1955, Jonas Salk defeated the giant
that was polio (Rosenberg interview). p
On April 12, 1955, a vaccine injection developed by Jonas Edward Salk was introduced to the public.
It succeeded in protecting people from paralytic poliomyelitis (polio). Shortly thereafter, an even
better oral vaccination was developed by Albert Sabin. These discoveries, considered the greatest
medical advance of the time, can be directly attributed to these two men, Jonas Salk and Albert Sabin.

Poisonwood Tree Symbolism
The meaning of the cave isn t lying on the surface of the novel. Rather, it waits somewhere deep, and
part of what it requires of us is to bring something of ourselves to the encounter. If we want to figure
out what a symbol might mean, we have to use a variety of tools on it: questions, experience,
preexisting knowledge (Foster 106 107). This passage is referring to dive deep into thought about
what a symbol really stands for. In this case a cave, the cave is more than just an underground

The Price family moved from small town Bethlehem, GA to the Congo of Africa. Considering they
came from a wealthy, normal American town, the Congo would be a very different place to get
accustomed to. Father Price thinks the Congo will be a place where he can easily plant crops from
back in the US and integrate the idea of farming within the Congo. My Father had been going to the
garden alone, every day, to sit and think. It disturbed him that the plants thrived and filled the fenced
patch with bloom like a funeral parlor, but would not set fruit...The flowers would open and close,
then the green fruits behind them would shrivel and turn brown. There wasn t a single exception. In
exchange for our honest sweat, we d so far earned flowers and leaves, but nothing we could actually

plant a garden to show the Congolese how to farm and grow crops. This was a mistake because the
Congo is so geographically different from Georgia. Also, as Foster puts it you cannot put someone
into a complex setting who is normal , and Father Price does fall into that category of normality. The
flowers don t bear fruit as a result of the geographical differences, but also may not bear fruit as a
result of Father Prices arrogance towards the people of the Congo. He thinks of them as clueless
people who can t do anything for

Essay On Health Information Exchange
Introduction I will be focusing on defining a Health Information Exchange, including the aspects of
the various formats; how Health Information Exchanges developed over time, including the hurdles
that had to be overcome; and where Health Information Exchanges are heading, along with expected
hurdles and improvements. The development has been much slower than expectations, but the future
looks promising. What is HIE? Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) share patient information
between health care providers in order to improve the speed, quality, safety, and cost of patient care.
By sharing data, physicians improve their decision making, as well as reduce readmissions, avoid
medication errors, improve diagnoses, and decrease duplicate testing. Aside from these benefits, the
use of electronic data requires healthcare providers to standardize their data. There are three forms of
exchanges the direct exchange, query based exchange, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This service, once the patient is identified, searches for the existence of records within the exchange.
This form of information retrieval would be very helpful to the care of a patient, most specifically in
the case of emergency care (Morris, 2012). The Emergency Dept could begin a query at the time of
triage to build a problem list, allergy list, medication list, current physicians and ongoing treatments.
The costs associated with developing a record locator service, and the questionable sustainability in a
market lacking interoperability between the available EHRs, have impeded the development of this
form of exchange (Rudin,2014).It has been difficult for HIEs using this format to reach their tipping
point to become self sustaining. There are several determinants driving the success of Query based
HIOs the need for a broader set of clinical data, more diverse and high volumes of data, obtaining
relevant users that need the database, and utilization rates (Morris,

The Negative Importance Of Eugenics As A Science
Eugenics is a science that Francis Galton developed that holds an extensive amount of negative
connotations now and should continue to do so as long as life thrives on Earth. As people who want to
develop this science are usually those who believe that there are people who are born superior and that
there are people who are born inferior; that there are traits that you cannot change no matter what.
This type of belief has been backed up with Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection and with
Galton s own ideas of hard heredity, and even lead to the advancement of eugenic policies like
sterilization laws. And even though eugenics did lose credibility because of Nazis, it is still shown
nowadays, such as in prison.
There were two main biological beliefs that were taken to support eugenics natural selection and hard
heredity. Natural selection was Darwin s theory that stated that over time the weak will gradually
depreciate, leaving only the strong. However, with eugenics being discussed, people were creating
policies that would make natural selection proceed at a much faster rate. And so it got into people s
mind that if you re strong, it s alright to eradicate the weak forcefully because it was going to happen
anyway. Hard heredity, which was produced by Galton, however, was the idea that the mental, moral,
and physical qualities of a person are taken from your parents. And that even if one of your parents
take it upon themselves to improve themselves, the

Comparing Venus In The Birth Of Venus And The Beautiful By...
As one of the most well known and studied artists of the Italian Renaissance, Sandro Botticelli
changed many of the ideals of Renaissance painting. His devotion to the depiction of the Beautiful
resulted in rhythmic and poetic art that has left realism and logic behind in the quest for divine beauty.
Through abstraction and the divine, Botticelli transposed onto a plane of pure spirituality where no
distinctions or fine shades are any longer possible, where all values are balanced out and merged ,
transcending the natural to show sublime images of divine beauty. This paper will examine two of
Botticelli s paintings of Venus, in the Birth of Venus (Fig.1) and in the Primavera (Fig.2), and will
consider that the two pieces were created as sister works. Through analysis of ancient and Renaissance
texts, it shows that the two paintings, when considered together, they show key concepts of
Neoplatonic philosophy, specifically that of the two Venuses: Earthly and Heavenly. Both the Birth of
Venus and Primavera add to a narrative that implies a physical manifestation of the derivation of
divine beauty and love from Heaven to Earth.
In the Birth of Venus, Venus is painted nude in the center of the composition and she is standing in
contrapposto, posing as the Venus pudica. The Venus Pudica pose means that the goddess s hands are
over her breasts and genital area, giving Venus an opportunity to poorly attempt to maintain some
form of modesty, when in reality, the placement of Venus s hands brings more attention to her nudity.
Venus Pudica was a common pose among female nude sculptures of ancient greco roman culture, as in
the second century BCE Medici Venus (Fig. 3). The Medici Venus sculpture was in the collection of
the Medici family, at the same time that Botticelli painted the Birth of Venus. As the Medici family
were his supporters, Botticelli must have been familiar with the Medici Venus.
Marsilio Ficino, leader of the Florentine Platonic movement, describes the Florentine Neoplatonic
conception of beauty in his Commentary on Plato s Symposium on Love, as the splendor of the divine
goodness and the act or ray from [the Good] penetrating through all things. He also writes that there is
a constant circle of

Marine Volcanoes Vs Landforms
Submarine volcanoes, mid ocean ridges, and submarine canyons are all grouped into the marine
geology systems. Underwater structures can actually be pretty useful to marine geologists, in 1930
studies found the seafloor to have all of the same physical features on land like mountains, volcanoes,
canyons and more. The seafloor is estimated to be less than 2,000,000 year old, being a lot younger
than landforms. The age difference of the two makes marine geologists work a lot more fun to
compare in finding the way rocks are built, how the sediments are compatible and finding an
estimated location of natural disasters underwater.
Submarine volcanoes, also known as sea mounts, are underwater landforms that magma releases from.
They re most commonly located near ocean ridges because that s where the most tectonic plate
movement happens therefore, more eruptions. Depending on the depth at which the volcano is, vapor
clouds may be visible but usually only in shallow waters. There are two big types of volcanic
eruptions, huge lava pockets that release really slowly and and bunch of little lava pockets that burst
super fast. There has been a study conducted so that scientists are able to differentiate the types of

The Negative Consequences Of Edward Snowden
One often finds that standing up and working in favor of the greater good usually results in negative
consequences. Edward Snowden encountered this crossroad while working for the NSA and the CIA
as a technical contractor. When he was working at the NSA s Hawaii office, Snowden noticed various
government methods that the NSA was using to spy on American citizens. The NSA gathered
information from American citizens phone calls and internet use, without their consent. After three
months of working for the NSA, Snowden began leaking the secret documents showing the NSA s
surveillance methods. The documents contained information such as the invasion of privacy of
millions of Americans from the NSA s various domestic programs such as PRISM. Snowden had then
fled to Russia to escape any trouble with the law after he leaked to the newspaper companies which
began printing the documents. Snowden didn t decide to be in Russia, he was actually flying through
Russia going to Latin America. Which is where he intended to seek asylum, knowing the Obama
administration would put him into prison for the rest of his life. And being a rational person, he did not
want to be in jail for the rest of his life for being a whistleblower. The reason he could not get out of
Russia was because on the plane from Hong Kong to Russia, they revoked his passport and then told
the Cubans if you let him through to Latin America there will be all kinds of incriminations for you. (

Wells Fargo has taken a lot of heat during its recent scandal. Regulatory and media authorities have
openly criticized the bank s unethical sales practices and stressful sales driven culture. While majority

ideal reaction is to refuse, even at the risk of job loss. In extreme cases, employees can blow the

Reaction of Wells Fargo towards Ideal Response. Employees at Wells Fargo, who tried to report

Why Rome Fell Essay
I like clothes. 3 things that could go wrong with picking out outfits is colors, length/ size, or patterns.
Picking colors that match look better or if you were going to a party or celebration, wearing a dress
with 1 color is the best decision to go with. Lengths also matter, never wear anything to short or to
long for your comfort. Or if the piece of clothing is too tight or too loose. Patterns are the most
important when picking outfits, a lot like color the pattern(s) should match or at least compliment each
other. Just like an outfit can look ugly or messy, so can an empire.

natural disasters. In Rome of 366 C.E. an earthquake hit Rome and killed 250,000 1 million citizens
and not only that, the earthquake also caused a flood that killed 50,000 more people. A total of
300,000 1,050,000 citizens/Romans killed by 1 earthquake.Therefore, this is the most important
reason for the fall of Rome.
It is true that there are other great reasons why Rome fell. For example, legal injustice which is a
quality relating to unfairness or undeserved outcomes. reference to a particular event or situation, or to
a larger status quo. In Western philosophy and jurisprudence, injustice is very commonly but not
always defined as either the absence or the opposite of justice. However, the three reasons represented
above political assassinations, foreign invaders, and especially natural disasters provide the best
explanation for why Rome finally crumbled in the 5th century

The Giver Ending Analysis
As the snow powdered behind the sled and the singing became louder, Jonas tensed and tightened his
grip on Gabe and the edge of the sled. Watching the lights get closer, Jonas saw a figure of spheres
stacked on top of the other, with a carrot in the center of the third sphere on the very top. A hat was on
the top of that sphere, with it tilted to one side. The figure was getting bigger, getting closer. In a blink
of an eye, Jonas covered Gabe and held him tight against his side as they crashed into the cold white
figure. Snow dust flew everywhere, getting on Gabriel s face and body. Gabriel shivered and whined
in shock and cold. Gabriel s nose was as blue as the afternoon sky; Jonas remembered the colour from
one of his memories. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Laying there with a newchild slowly dying in his arms, Jonas couldn t help but cry. He lay still, trying
to force his body up off of the cold white ground, but he couldn t do it. Gabriel started to cry, too.
Jonas didn t know what to do. The Giver hadn t left him many memories to warm Gabe, to give Gabe
happy thoughts and stop the wailing and whining. Jonas fell asleep, but Gabriel kept crying. Then
suddenly, the crying stopped. Jonas was lifted out of the snow and carried to a two story home with
the scent of cinnamon and cocoa filling the whole house. Cold turned to warmth. Gabe was taken to a
room with brown and green on the walls, figures of one of the creatures Jonas and Gabriel saw on
their journey. It was a deer. They filled the room. As well as leaves and guns like in the war memory
Jonas remembered. A crib sat in the back of the room and Gabriel was placed inside it. Jonas woke up
on a couch with lights of pink and blue and red shining all over it. He sat up, looked around the room
and found himself in different clothing. The top was tighter against him, sleeves down his arm, and
pants made of a material he wasn t familiar with, but had seen in memories before. They were tougher,

Social Presence Theory Paper
The rise of technology and, consequently, social network sites have popularized a new method of
socialization known as computer mediated communication (CMC) communication between two or
more people that occurs and is contained on electronic devices. With this phenomenon spawned
several theories that researchers have been trying to answer, including the social presence theory. This
theory examines how CMC replaces physical face to face interaction and the consequences of this
communicative exchange. CMC allows a variety of communicative mediums which each have their
own level of physical salience, or social presence. For instance, video messaging a friend may seem
more personal than text messaging because video message allows the message sender to actually see
and hear the receiver s voice. This makes it easier to notice and pick up on the emotions, expressions,
and nonverbal cues during the conversation. The social presence theory argues that CMC with higher
feelings of social presence will be more personal and intimate whereas CMC with lower feelings
social presence are considered detached and more task ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether the couples began talking in person or over instant message are the independent categorical
variables while the level of intimacy is the dependent categorical variable. In addition, the
participants, male or female, are independent categorical variables and the results from the concluding

depend on how the first few initial encounters go based off the couples designated situation whether
they started speaking face to face first or they spoke over media. With my hypothesis that the face to
face group will find more success in obtaining higher intimacy levels, I hope to prove the social
presence theory in the fact that traditional face to face interaction is more powerful than

An Evaluation Of The Ely Copper Mines
Introduction On reviewing the state, federal documents and federal database for the Ely Copper mines
representing 87% of currently operating copper Ely mines, and responsible for 89% of U.S. copper
production in 2010. The Ely Copper mines were chosen based on an operating record of more than
five years. These mines provide a representative view of the types of environmental impacts resulting
from the development of copper porphyry deposits, focusing on pipeline spills, tailings failures and
water collection and treatment failures. It was found that all of the mines (100%) experienced pipeline
spills or other accidental releases. The most frequent spills were reported at the Ray Mine in Arizona,
where over fifty pipelines Spills occurred from 1988 to 2012. Data shows that among 13 of the 14
mines (92%), water collection and treatment systems have failed to control contaminated mine
seepage, resulting in significant water quality impacts. The development of acid mine drainage was
associated with the most severe and lasting impacts. This report presents an evaluation of the Ely
copper mines system found in Vermont Alaska. This report is associated with the Ely Copper Mine
Superfund site in Vershire, Orange County, The Ely Copper Mine Super¬fund site was placed on the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) National Priorities List in 2001. Results of detailed
mine waste investigations show that the mine, which operated intermittently from the early 1800s until

Effects Of Teen Pregnancy On Children s Reproductive System
The United States has the highest rate of unplanned teen pregnancies amongst the most developed
countries in the world. Approximately 750,000 teens will become pregnant this year and with the lack
of resources to terminate those unwanted pregnancies more than ninety two percent of those teens will
become parents before graduating high school. Plan B one step emergency contraception is now
available over the counter as of August 2013 an although there has been a great debate on whether or
not the open availability to teens as young as fifteen will do more harm than good it does seem that the
positives have out weighted the negative since lowering the age restriction and making it available
over the counter. Since talk about raising the age limit back to seventeen with a prescription and
turning it back over to pharmacy counters the controversy has resurfaced. The subject of harm Plan b
may or may not be contributing to women s reproductive system as well as allowing minors to put
themselves at risk without their parents knowledge have been main topics of decision. Plan B one step
has been proven to be safe and effective and has minimized teen pregnancy since being approved in
2013.
Plan B emergency contraception is an oral pill used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. If
used properly, which means as soon as possible up 72 hours of unprotected sex pregnancy is not to be
expected. Starting in the early 1960s emergency contraception was only used in rape victims to

Robert S. and Daniel L. say: Marginal utility measures the additional satisfaction obtained from

Diminshing marginal utility is the utility from one more unit consumption increase will decrease.
Equal marginal principle, as Robert S. and Daniel L. say: It is maximized when the consumer has
equalized the marginal utility per dollar of expenditure across all goods. [pic]
2.2 The understanding of marginal utility theory
Marginal utility, in other word, is the difference in your satisfaction when you are offered with an
additional one unit of a good or service. For example, when you are hungry, you will be very happy
with someone offering you a piece of bread. If you got the second one, you will still be happy. So do
the third or fourth one. But when it comes to the fifth or sixth piece, you may be less happy with that.
When it reaches to the seventh piece, you may become unhappy with the offer. It is usual consumers
psychology. In the process, people increasing satisfaction of getting one more piece of bread is
marginal utility. And just like full filling a bottle with water, people will finally reach a point that we
are not able to accept more good or service or even the water will spill out which likes the satisfaction
remain the same as the previous one additional unit.
Marginal utility theory has three main features. First, it

Expectancy Theory
Theories of Motivation: Vroom s Valence Expectancy Theory
If you were a manager, wouldn t you like to know how your employees decide to work hard or goof
off? Wouldn t it be nice to know whether a planned rewards program will have the desired effect
namely, motivating them to perform better in their jobs? Wouldn t it be helpful if you could measure
the effect of bonuses on employee productivity?
These are the issues considered by psychologist Victor Vroom in his expectancy theory, which
proposes that employees will work hard to earn rewards that they value and that they consider
obtainable.
There are three variables of Vroom s model given in the form of an equation. Since the mode is
multiplicative, all the three variables must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(iv) Weak empirical support: the empirical support for the Vroom model is insignificant and lacks
consistency.
The merits of Vroom theory are:
(i) Basic framework: the Vroom s model provides a basic framework for interpreting work motivation
as Keith Davis put it.
According to Fred Luthans, the expectancy model is like marginal analysis in economics. The
expectancy model attempts to mirror the complex motivational process. From the theoretical
standpoint it seems to be a step in the right direction. It is of value in understanding organisational
behaviour.
(ii) Appreciation of individual differences: for the first time in a systematic way it draws attention to
individual differences in motivation.
As Koontz, O. Donnell and Weihrich pointed out: one of the great attractions of the Vroom model is
that it recognizes the importance of various individual needs and motivations. It does seem more
realistic .
(iii) Clue to harmonization of individual and organisation goals: it clarifies the relationship between
individual goals and organisational objectives and thus points to the way how the two can be
harmonized.
It is thus a step further from management by objectives. Instead of assuming that satisfaction of a
specific need is likely to influence organisational objectives in a certain way we can find out how
important to the employee are:

William Potter s Macbeth
Macbeth, a tragedy play written by Shakespeare, illustrates the damaging physical and psychological
effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake. Harry Potter, a series of
fantasy, fiction novels written by J.K Rowling, chronicles the life of a young wizard, Harry Potter, a
chain adventure of his friends, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and
Wizardry. Despite the fact that these two books may seem completely unreliable, there are indeed,
certain connections in presence between one another. History and time has proven that from time to
time, the presence of witches, prophecies and violence in a fiction novel has always acted as the
essential success criteria. The general of aspect of a fiction, fantasy novel can be identified as to
entertain the readers, to reveal central message, and to propose a virtual, imagery, but vivid world of
wonder and magic towards the readers. Even though Macbeth and Harry Potter are categorized in two
different styles of literacy, they share similarities in terms of characters, themes, and symbols in a
variety of aspects; ultimately, the omnipresence of fantasy, magic and dichotomy is the reason why
both literatures are so wildly successful.
First and foremost, characters from both books have shared many similarities with one another. To
begin with, Macbeth and Ginny weasley are both plagued by self doubt, and because of this, they are
easily manipulated and influenced by the forces of others.

Media, Violence, And Violence Essay
Violent crime statistics is continually increasing overtime, and there are a wide variety of factors that
contribute to this. One influencing factor would be the media. Media and violence are both very wide
and broad concepts that have massive impacts in our society, and it is important to distinguish their
relationship with each other. The types of media are things such as violent video games, films,
newspapers, magazines and television. One particular type of media that is often very problematized is
violent video games. Different studies have shown convincing and unconvincing correlational in
regards to the media and violence, but to whom do we believe?
The media, especially in today s modern society surrounds us all the time. It affects our daily lives and
has become part of our everyday routines, which is why it has such a huge impact on us, and violent
media is everywhere. It is known that by the time we get to our eighteenth birthday, we will have seen
and witnessed about 200,000 violent acts and about 16,000 murders (Media Education Foundation,
2005). There have been ongoing controversial debates as to whether violent media exposure
contributes to violent and aggressive behaviours and whether one is caused by the other. Violence
includes, but is not limited to things such as murder, assault, homicide, shootings, property offence,
rape and assault. The mainstream and popular notion has been that violent video games make people
more aggressive and desensitized to

The Entrepreneurs Satisfaction On Their Job
Overview:
In this paper, it indicates the entrepreneurs satisfaction on their job. To measure the job satisfaction, in
my opinion job characteristic theory is a key. Like article states, there are variety, identity, significance
that can measure the job meaningfulness. Also autonomy and feedback can define the job satisfaction.
In the article, money or pay is the most significant part that lead the satisfaction to entrepreneurs, more
money they earn, they feel satisfaction on their jobs. It reflect to the life satisfaction in the chapter,

corporations successors. Obviously, they are different values and beliefs of job satisfaction than the
traditional entrepreneurs. In my age, I know some successors as well than their family members who

not a major key any more of job satisfaction.

The Cultural and Political Life of Saudi Arabia Essay
Crimes punishable by the death sentence in Saudi Arabia include murder, serious attacks on the Islam
religion, adultery, dress codes, and since 1987, drug smuggling. Under Saudi Arabian law, serious
crimes merit serious consequences. Repeated theft is punishable by amputation of the right hand,
administered under anesthetic. Because most meals in Saudi Arabia are eaten by hand from a
communal bowl and only the right hand may touch the food, this punishment effectively bans the
convicted thief from society. The severity of this punishment has led to a slight softening of the law in
recent years; now if the thief repents and makes restitution before the case is brought before a judge,
the punishment can be reduced... furthermore, the victim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First time offenders face some combination of prison terms, floggings, and fines: those convicted a
second time face execution. Within two years, this ruling, coupled with a new antidrug campaign,
resulted in a sixty percent drop in drug addiction and twenty six percent reductions in drug use. Saudi
officials now claim that the kingdom has the lowest rate of drug addiction in the world, which they
attributed to harsh punishment and the religious convictions of ordinary Saudis. (Aburish, The House
of Saud, 1994) In the United States those who are convicted of drug smuggling will be convicted and
will have to serve time in prison, and fines will be placed upon them. Also, second time offenders will
have a substantial amount of prison time to face but there is no execution punishment for drug
smuggling.
In addition, there are those who are being persecuted for their religious beliefs. When Islam gained
control of Saudi Arabia thirteen hundred years ago, all Christians were expelled from the country. The
nation considers itself the guardian of Islam s Holiest sites and all other religions are forbidden. Since
the death of King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz in August 2005 and subsequent election of King Abdullah,
there have been increased discussions of reform in Saudi Arabia. However, attacks against Christians
and human rights abuses have in fact been on the rise since King Abdullah came into power. The

  • 2. The During The Civil War Era Between the 1900s and 1975 the United States experiences growth in many areas of higher education (HE). Various publications, people, acts and legislation influenced change in thought, access, policy, practice, and assessment of HE. From the Civil War Era to the Mass Education Era we witnessed the struggle of African Americans that influenced important legislation, the Progressive Movement and the birth of the Wisconsin Idea, the publication and revision of the Student Personnel Point of View, the President s Commission on Higher Education, and the passing of the Higher Education Act. All of which contributed to the growth of HE during this time period. Very few free Blacks had the opportunity to attend college during the Civil War Era. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the Reconstruction Era ended so did the market for professional job opportunities for African Americans. An area for work opportunity for African Americans was seen in the industrial labor markets. Booker T. Washington, a freedman and graduate of the Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute, was one of the biggest advocated for the pursuit of practical training and manual labor for African Americans. He was a teacher and later elected president at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama (now the Tuskegee University). There he trained Black students to become teachers, farmers, and construction workers. Many students were apart of a work study program and helped construct buildings at the Tuskegee Institute. Around the same time, another freedman, W.E.D Du Bois had his own ideas about African American education. He was a Harvard graduate; the first African American to received a doctorate degree, and a co founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He criticized Washington s vocational style of education and argued that it promoted submission to White Southern rule. He gained followers and led student protests at Hampton, Howard, and Fisk in the 1920s. As a result of the protests, the first Black president at Howard was elected in 1926 (Allen Jewell 2002). • 3. Voting Rights Act Pros And Cons I have come to a realization that the United States of America has taken a huge step back into history. Instead of learning from our past and growing we have elected a President that only brings racist remarks symbolizing everything that the United States does not identify as. Due to the election it has brought us much awareness of how ignorant the people who were elected into office to be the people s voice. We have accomplished many things as a society, but still render the key elements to take the blindfold of the ignorance that hovers around people. The Voting Rights act has been dismantled and sadly, we are returning to our racists background, or maybe we just never acknowledged them until we elected a blatant racist president. The Voting Right s act represents a huge faze in our History of how we transformed into a more welcoming society for all people no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As everyone may know The Daily Show is a widely popular show that informs viewers of current news through humour (John,2017). The Daily show had an episode dedicated to why Shelby county wanted to get rid of sec 4(b) and 5 of the voting rights act (John,2017). Supposedly Voting I.D laws was a suggestion to prevent voting fraud which was assessed to having 1 to 2 cases not 1,000 to 2,000 but simply 1 to 2 cases (John,2017). It s a non ethical approach because there have only been 1 to 2 cases of fraud which does not call for an extreme tactic of presenting I.D laws (John,2017). The Daily show dived into how the voting I.D laws was a strategic ideal to incorporate all these restrictions to stop the Democratic party (John,2017). By going after black Latino they would overall halt the Democratic party because they mainly vote democrat (John,2017). Thankfully the voting ID laws were shut down in Alabama, but has started an uproar in the south ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Poetry On Acid By Mark Strands Poetry On Acid In Mark Strands Eating Poetry, the author tells a story of an altered view of a mundane task, taken with a view not normally experienced by restrained society. Right or wrong as the author s actions may be, the poet s description of his interactions is quite engaging. Expressed in three six line stanzas, the writer flows through the highs and lows of an exceptionally intense literary experience. In the first stanza, Strand starts his first line with the usage of intense imagery. Ink runs from the corners of my mouth. His usage of imagery grabs the reader s attention and has us immediately wondering why ink is coming from the corners of his mouth. Ink is such an odd thing for someone to have coming from their mouth, and with that one line Strand has made us long to read more. Ink is also traditionally highly toxic, suggesting the writer may have a wish to die a slow, agonizing death. The second line talks about how happy he is, seemingly in conflict with the first line. This portrays that he enjoys eating ink and is rather happy with himself, as maddeningly illogical as this may be. Line three is an example of a metaphor. We learn that the reason he has ink in his mouth is because he was eating poetry. Reality seems to be at odds with what the writer is experiencing, as there would be no way for the ink to still be liquid. Perhaps the sanity of the writer is in question, and it could be that as he reads the lines of verse he is merely imagining them as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Skin Cancer Essay Cancer , its a disease that has claim the lives of millions, its a disease that so far has no known cure, and its a disease that has many different forms. Cancer is defined as a malignant form of tumors, which are tissue masses that arise through mutations in the genes that govern cell growth and division (Starr, 1999, p. 213). Skin cancer is just one of the many forms of cancer that effects us and is the most common cancer in the U.S. Like so many others, I would assume that the major cause of skin cancer was the ultraviolet rays from the sun. However, there are other factors involved. Our DNA plays a major role in how cancer affects us, it has a major role in genetics too, therefore, environmental and heredity both are factors that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One form of skin cancer is melanoma, is the rarest but the most virulent of the skin cancers. It is responsible for 75% of all deaths from cancer. It is a cancer that arises in the melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives our skin, hair, and eyes their color and that allows us to tan (Schofield Robinson, 2000, p. 1). Melanocytes are located throughout the body, in the retina of the eye and in the linings of the mouth, nose, anus, rectum, vagina, and spinal cord, (Schofield Robinson, 2000, p. 6). However, majority of them are located in the skin. The purpose of these cells are to make melanin to protect our skin cells from the sun s ultraviolet rays (UV rays). The melanocyte cells are found between the dermis (the second layer of skin) and the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin). Normally every ten cells found within the epidermis and dermis are melanocytes the others are cells called keratinocytes. Melanin is made inside the melanocytes then is transferred along the cells long arms (dendrites) to nearby keratinocytes in the epidermis. Melanoma arises when there is an uncontrollable increase in the reproduction of melanocyte cells. Although, skin cancer mostly develops just below the skin s surface, where an existing mole is located, it can get into the blood vessels and lymphatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Happened To Hannah Baker s 13 Reasons Why Have you ever been so depressed and upset that you feel like you can not live anymore? Like everything is just a waste of time? Everything anyone does wrong just pushes you over the edge. That is exactly what happened to Hannah Baker in 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Hannah is about 16 or 17. Just a normal girl in a normal town. Until she commits suicide. The town is in shock when they heard she did it. No one understood it. Until one day Clay Jensen opened his front door to 13 cassette tapes just sitting on his porch. He had no clue where they came from. They were all clearly marked in the order they should be listened to. He put the first one in not knowing what would happen. Out of the speakers Hannah s voice is heard. He is in shock. Hannah is dead. How could this happen? Did she make these tapes before she killed herself to tell people why? Through the speaker was 13 peoples names, each on a separate tape. They were claimed to be the reasons she did what she had done. She said to keep what was on the tapes only between these 13 people. She claimed that this was one of the reasons as to why she committed suicide. I am sure that all the other 13 reasons contributed to it, but I feel like this should not have even been put in here because of how irrelevant it is to why people commit suicide today. If someone right now were to come up to just about any girl in high school right now and smack their butt, of course they will be super angry. I do not think anyone would think of committing suicide over that. Of course you have no idea what is going on in that person s life at the time, but that is not a reason to be added to why you would have done it in the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abd Al-Malik s The Dome Of The Rock Although the initial purpose seemed to be for Abd Al Malik s ego, the Dome of the Rock embodies significant religious meaning and Islamic principles in the architecture itself. The design may have been inspired by the Sufis who came to live in Jerusalem from a very early date. Sufis are the mystics of Islam and would find deeper connections to Allah through art. In Islam, figurative art is forbidden in places of worship because God is beyond human understanding, but art utilizing patterns and shapes of geometry were permitted. This is why tessellations have been a significant portion of Islamic art since the very beginning. These bacteria break down almost any biodegradable organic waste including sewage and water waste and use it as fuel to generate power. Places like Penn State University and The Biodesign Institute in Arizona State University are already testing and improving this new alternative energy. According to Penn State University they have achieved in producing 1.5 watts per meter squared of amount of waste water taken in and believe that a large industrial plant will be able to produce near 0.8 watts per meter squared and will be able to support about 500 homes (9). This cell uses bacteria like Shewanella oneidensis and Rhodoferax ferrireducens and many labs are attempting to find better strains of bacteria more suited to the process (3). This fuel cells work in two parts. Basically, the microbial fuel cell has two halves, aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic means with presence of oxygen, anaerobic means a lack of oxygen. When bacteria consume their food in aerobic conditions they produce carbon dioxide and water, however when it s in an anaerobic condition they produce carbon dioxide, electrons and protons. The MFC has the bacteria put in the anaerobic chamber of the cell and decompose water material that contain glucose and/or acetate. The bacteria also free hydrogen ions and electrons. The electrons flow from an anode into the cathode. The hydrogen ions however just pass through the barrier; soon the electrons and hydrogen ions are in the aerobic chamber and combine with the oxygen forming h2o. The H2O is released and electrical energy is produced from the transfer off the energy between the Anode and Cathode (or Anaerobic and Aerobic chambers). Microbial Fuel Cells have a large variety of benefits due to its versatility and choice of fuel. Firstly it can use most biodegradable organic matter including human and animal waste, sewage, etc. This is great as there is no limit to the fuel and it is easy to find. • 9. The Conquest of Polio, a Story of Rivalry and Success Essay As recently at the 1950 s, polio was a common disease in the United States. It was first detected as early as 1789 when doctors recorded small outbreaks of an odd disease accompanied by fever, paralysis and a tendency to attack children. It wasn t until the summer of 1916, however, that the public began to pay attention. Twenty seven thousand people were paralyzed that summer from polio, with most of the victims being children. This is why the disease was called infantile paralysis, although adults also were stricken by the disease (Smith, An Icon 36 40). It was later renamed poliomyelitis, referring to the characteristic inflammation ( itis) of the gray (polios) anterior matter of the spinal cord (myelos). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Body parts often shriveled up and became entirely useless as muscled atrophied. More severe initial symptoms were flu like, including severe muscle pain, headaches, fever, sore throat, stomachache, and other problems. Parents feared this disease with good reason. Often victims had to spend the rest of their lives in a machine called an iron lung which enabled them to breathe by mechanically compressing their chests. The iron lung was a large metal tube built around a bed on which patients had to lie for the duration of their lives (Smith 63 69). Additionally, stricken people were more susceptible to infections like pneumonia which gradually weakened and sometimes killed them. The epidemic appeared to be growing worse each year and it seemed that a miracle would be needed to stop any further death and paralysis. At the peak of the rampage in 1955, Jonas Salk defeated the giant that was polio (Rosenberg interview). p On April 12, 1955, a vaccine injection developed by Jonas Edward Salk was introduced to the public. It succeeded in protecting people from paralytic poliomyelitis (polio). Shortly thereafter, an even better oral vaccination was developed by Albert Sabin. These discoveries, considered the greatest medical advance of the time, can be directly attributed to these two men, Jonas Salk and Albert Sabin. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rather, it waits somewhere deep, and part of what it requires of us is to bring something of ourselves to the encounter. If we want to figure out what a symbol might mean, we have to use a variety of tools on it: questions, experience, preexisting knowledge (Foster 106 107). This passage is referring to dive deep into thought about what a symbol really stands for. In this case a cave, the cave is more than just an underground chamber inside the Earth. The Price family moved from small town Bethlehem, GA to the Congo of Africa. Considering they came from a wealthy, normal American town, the Congo would be a very different place to get accustomed to. Father Price thinks the Congo will be a place where he can easily plant crops from back in the US and integrate the idea of farming within the Congo. My Father had been going to the garden alone, every day, to sit and think. It disturbed him that the plants thrived and filled the fenced patch with bloom like a funeral parlor, but would not set fruit...The flowers would open and close, then the green fruits behind them would shrivel and turn brown. There wasn t a single exception. In exchange for our honest sweat, we d so far earned flowers and leaves, but nothing we could actually have for supper (Kingsolver 77 78). Father Price believed that he could do good in the Congo and plant a garden to show the Congolese how to farm and grow crops. This was a mistake because the Congo is so geographically different from Georgia. Also, as Foster puts it you cannot put someone into a complex setting who is normal , and Father Price does fall into that category of normality. • 11. Essay On Health Information Exchange Introduction I will be focusing on defining a Health Information Exchange, including the aspects of the various formats; how Health Information Exchanges developed over time, including the hurdles that had to be overcome; and where Health Information Exchanges are heading, along with expected hurdles and improvements. The development has been much slower than expectations, but the future looks promising. What is HIE? Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) share patient information between health care providers in order to improve the speed, quality, safety, and cost of patient care. By sharing data, physicians improve their decision making, as well as reduce readmissions, avoid medication errors, improve diagnoses, and decrease duplicate testing. Aside from these benefits, the use of electronic data requires healthcare providers to standardize their data. There are three forms of exchanges the direct exchange, query based exchange, ... The costs associated with developing a record locator service, and the questionable sustainability in a market lacking interoperability between the available EHRs, have impeded the development of this form of exchange (Rudin,2014).It has been difficult for HIEs using this format to reach their tipping point to become self sustaining. There are several determinants driving the success of Query based HIOs the need for a broader set of clinical data, more diverse and high volumes of data, obtaining relevant users that need the database, and utilization rates (Morris, ... • 12. The Negative Importance Of Eugenics As A Science Eugenics is a science that Francis Galton developed that holds an extensive amount of negative connotations now and should continue to do so as long as life thrives on Earth. As people who want to develop this science are usually those who believe that there are people who are born superior and that there are people who are born inferior; that there are traits that you cannot change no matter what. This type of belief has been backed up with Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection and with Galton s own ideas of hard heredity, and even lead to the advancement of eugenic policies like sterilization laws. And even though eugenics did lose credibility because of Nazis, it is still shown nowadays, such as in prison. There were two main biological beliefs that were taken to support eugenics natural selection and hard heredity. Natural selection was Darwin s theory that stated that over time the weak will gradually depreciate, leaving only the strong. However, with eugenics being discussed, people were creating policies that would make natural selection proceed at a much faster rate. And so it got into people s mind that if you re strong, it s alright to eradicate the weak forcefully because it was going to happen anyway. Hard heredity, which was produced by Galton, however, was the idea that the mental, moral, and physical qualities of a person are taken from your parents. • 13. Comparing Venus In The Birth Of Venus And The Beautiful By... As one of the most well known and studied artists of the Italian Renaissance, Sandro Botticelli changed many of the ideals of Renaissance painting. His devotion to the depiction of the Beautiful resulted in rhythmic and poetic art that has left realism and logic behind in the quest for divine beauty. Through abstraction and the divine, Botticelli transposed onto a plane of pure spirituality where no distinctions or fine shades are any longer possible, where all values are balanced out and merged , transcending the natural to show sublime images of divine beauty. This paper will examine two of Botticelli s paintings of Venus, in the Birth of Venus (Fig.1) and in the Primavera (Fig.2), and will consider that the two pieces were created as sister works. Through analysis of ancient and Renaissance texts, it shows that the two paintings, when considered together, they show key concepts of Neoplatonic philosophy, specifically that of the two Venuses: Earthly and Heavenly. Both the Birth of Venus and Primavera add to a narrative that implies a physical manifestation of the derivation of divine beauty and love from Heaven to Earth. In the Birth of Venus, Venus is painted nude in the center of the composition and she is standing in contrapposto, posing as the Venus pudica. The Venus Pudica pose means that the goddess s hands are over her breasts and genital area, giving Venus an opportunity to poorly attempt to maintain some form of modesty, when in reality, the placement of Venus s hands brings more attention to her nudity. Venus Pudica was a common pose among female nude sculptures of ancient greco roman culture, as in the second century BCE Medici Venus (Fig. 3). The Medici Venus sculpture was in the collection of the Medici family, at the same time that Botticelli painted the Birth of Venus. As the Medici family were his supporters, Botticelli must have been familiar with the Medici Venus. Marsilio Ficino, leader of the Florentine Platonic movement, describes the Florentine Neoplatonic conception of beauty in his Commentary on Plato s Symposium on Love, as the splendor of the divine goodness and the act or ray from [the Good] penetrating through all things. He also writes that there is a constant circle of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Marine Volcanoes Vs Landforms Submarine volcanoes, mid ocean ridges, and submarine canyons are all grouped into the marine geology systems. Underwater structures can actually be pretty useful to marine geologists, in 1930 studies found the seafloor to have all of the same physical features on land like mountains, volcanoes, canyons and more. The seafloor is estimated to be less than 2,000,000 year old, being a lot younger than landforms. The age difference of the two makes marine geologists work a lot more fun to compare in finding the way rocks are built, how the sediments are compatible and finding an estimated location of natural disasters underwater. Submarine volcanoes, also known as sea mounts, are underwater landforms that magma releases from. They re most commonly located near ocean ridges because that s where the most tectonic plate movement happens therefore, more eruptions. Depending on the depth at which the volcano is, vapor clouds may be visible but usually only in shallow waters. Edward Snowden encountered this crossroad while working for the NSA and the CIA as a technical contractor. When he was working at the NSA s Hawaii office, Snowden noticed various government methods that the NSA was using to spy on American citizens. The NSA gathered information from American citizens phone calls and internet use, without their consent. After three months of working for the NSA, Snowden began leaking the secret documents showing the NSA s surveillance methods. The documents contained information such as the invasion of privacy of millions of Americans from the NSA s various domestic programs such as PRISM. Snowden had then fled to Russia to escape any trouble with the law after he leaked to the newspaper companies which began printing the documents. Snowden didn t decide to be in Russia, he was actually flying through Russia going to Latin America. Which is where he intended to seek asylum, knowing the Obama administration would put him into prison for the rest of his life. And being a rational person, he did not want to be in jail for the rest of his life for being a whistleblower. • 21. Why Rome Fell Essay I like clothes. 3 things that could go wrong with picking out outfits is colors, length/ size, or patterns. Picking colors that match look better or if you were going to a party or celebration, wearing a dress with 1 color is the best decision to go with. Lengths also matter, never wear anything to short or to long for your comfort. Or if the piece of clothing is too tight or too loose. Patterns are the most important when picking outfits, a lot like color the pattern(s) should match or at least compliment each other. Just like an outfit can look ugly or messy, so can an empire. One important reason why rome fell was lots of political assassinations. Within 50 years and 22 roman leaders, 13 were assassinated and 5 were possibly assassinated. ... One of the 3 invaders from asia, were the Huns. The Huns were described as ugly, ignorant, savage, wild animals, slaughter s and refuges. This contributed to why Rome fell because that 5 different foreign invaders attacked Rome from all angles. While the first 2 reasons were important, the primary reason for the fall of Rome was because of natural disasters. In Rome of 366 C.E. an earthquake hit Rome and killed 250,000 1 million citizens and not only that, the earthquake also caused a flood that killed 50,000 more people. A total of 300,000 1,050,000 citizens/Romans killed by 1 earthquake. Therefore, this is the most important reason for the fall of Rome. It is true that there are other great reasons why Rome fell. For example, legal injustice which is a quality relating to unfairness or undeserved outcomes. reference to a particular event or situation, or to a larger status quo. In Western philosophy and jurisprudence, injustice is very commonly but not always defined as either the absence or the opposite of justice. A hat was on the top of that sphere, with it tilted to one side. The figure was getting bigger, getting closer. Social Presence Theory Paper The rise of technology and, consequently, social network sites have popularized a new method of socialization known as computer mediated communication (CMC) communication between two or more people that occurs and is contained on electronic devices. With this phenomenon spawned several theories that researchers have been trying to answer, including the social presence theory. This theory examines how CMC replaces physical face to face interaction and the consequences of this communicative exchange. CMC allows a variety of communicative mediums which each have their own level of physical salience, or social presence. For instance, video messaging a friend may seem more personal than text messaging because video message allows the message sender to actually see and hear the receiver s voice. This makes it easier to notice and pick up on the emotions, expressions, and nonverbal cues during the conversation. Equal marginal principle, as Robert S. and Daniel L. say: It is maximized when the consumer has equalized the marginal utility per dollar of expenditure across all goods. [pic] 2.2 The understanding of marginal utility theory Marginal utility, in other word, is the difference in your satisfaction when you are offered with an additional one unit of a good or service. For example, when you are hungry, you will be very happy with someone offering you a piece of bread. If you got the second one, you will still be happy. So do the third or fourth one. But when it comes to the fifth or sixth piece, you may be less happy with that. When it reaches to the seventh piece, you may become unhappy with the offer. It is usual consumers psychology. In the process, people increasing satisfaction of getting one more piece of bread is marginal utility. From the theoretical standpoint it seems to be a step in the right direction. It is of value in understanding organisational behaviour. (ii) Appreciation of individual differences: for the first time in a systematic way it draws attention to individual differences in motivation. As Koontz, O. Donnell and Weihrich pointed out: one of the great attractions of the Vroom model is that it recognizes the importance of various individual needs and motivations. It does seem more realistic . (iii) Clue to harmonization of individual and organisation goals: it clarifies the relationship between individual goals and organisational objectives and thus points to the way how the two can be harmonized. It is thus a step further from management by objectives.
