Building A Sustainable Campus For Higher Education
For decades now, world leaders have set aside negotiations concerning climate change because the
issue was not convenient to deal with. This approach has benefited some, who bear the cost of fixing
the environment, and has harmed future generations of humans who now have to deal with the mess
that climate change has left behind. A glimmer of hope in reaction to the deal of Chinese and
American fossil fuel reduction is matched by a stock market that has favored green technology is a
starting point for restoring the human right of a clean environment. The University of Massachusetts
and the Political Economy Research Institute represent the efforts and new ideas that will pave the
way for ideas that will inspire a healthy economy that has a complimentary environment. The
University demonstrates these efforts through its numerous policies and practices that aim at
establishing a sustainable campus for higher education. Among these revolutionary approaches to a
green campus is the campus s first public level 3 electric vehicle charger located next to the
transportation services building. The level 3 charger represents the University s dedication to a
sustainable campus, which can be used as a working model for other universities and even small
towns, and how sustainable cars are the vehicle for positive environmental change. The charger was
opened for use in February of 2014 and presented by Chancellor Subbaswamy and state Secretary of

The Justification of Reverse Discrimination in Hiring Essay
In The Justification of Reverse Discrimination in Hiring, Tom Beauchamp displays statistics of
underrepresented races and genders in institutions. The inequality is due to the underlying persistent
racism originating decades ago. It has been pervasively executed despite federal laws for equality. The
expectation for a level playing field is not a reality, as statistically show with underrepresented African
Americans (1. Beauchamp, CC2011, p 0228). Beauchamp points out that at first sight, reverse
discrimination appears immoral, because it crafts a prejudice for one race over another. However, he
asserts that this inference is not applicable in the real world where ubiquitous prejudice still exists as
indicated by statistics. Because we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is an overrepresentation of minorities in inferior schools, living in a crime infested city, and
lacking family support (4. Rachels, CC2011, p 0203). If a minority with disadvantages reaches the
same qualifications as an advantaged Caucasian, the minority is more deserving, indicative of the
increased effort needed to put in. Fairness is a necessary condition in Rachels argument and minorities
that are qualified for institutions are generalized to have put in more sweat. In some cases when this
generalization is true, preferential treatment is considered fair. To establish a level playing field,
Beauchamp suggests a policy of strong affirmative action. This includes quotas to be implemented and
supported by government sanctions in a timely manner. Commitment to quotas will statistically show
progress towards a society built on equality. Beauchamp believes that laws are ineffectively
implemented and it is unclear to tell if institutions are intentionally discriminating unless numbers are
available (5. Beauchamp, CC2011, p 0230). Beauchamp s policy is an argument where the end result
morally justifies the method to get there. However, Rachels suggests a moderate form of reverse
discrimination where in a pool of equally qualified candidates, those challenged by unearned
disadvantages get preference. This consequentialist argument suggests that young minorities do not
have role models or mentors to emulate.

The Greek Beliefs About The Journey To The Underworld
When the Greeks die they have to have a proper burial. They put a coin on the eye or in the mouth of
the dead person. If they did not have a proper burial the person would appear to someone in their
dream and tell them where their body was and to give them a proper burial. Charon will only pick up

Symbols are used to represent something else. They can...
Symbols are used to represent something else. They can range from a red octagon representing a stop
sign to a fish representing Jesus. They give depth and entice imagination and expressive thinking.
They are often overlooked but can give new meaning to the work when discovered. Symbols and
symbolism can be found all around in language, in art, and in literature [PAR]. Language, in and of
itself, is a bunch of symbols combined in a way to represent ideas and physical objects. In art, an artist
can use symbolism to portray an underlying message behind his or her painting. Symbolism, within
irony, plot, characters, etc., is used in literature [SAS]. In the novella, Billy Budd, Herman Melville

Throughout the novella, Melville gives characteristics to Billy that symbolize Jesus. In the beginning
of the story Melville relates Billy to a Saint Bernard dog, self consciousness he seemed to have little
or none, or about as much as we may reasonably impute to a dog of Saint Bernard s breed (11).
Ironically, the Saint Bernard breed, not only by protecting people, is very apt to save people which
correlates to Jesus being sent to save all people from their sins[COMBO]. With Billy s innocence and
being enclosed in his bud form, he is negligent to the evil in the world until he meets Claggart. One to
whom not yet has been proffered the questionable apple of knowledge parallels the story of Adam and
Eve and how they were unaware of the evil around them until they ate the apple from the tree God
forbade them to (11). Claggart represents the evil and is the ultimate downfall and cause of Billy s
own death. Billy, because he killed Claggart, is hanged [PER]. Captain Vere, the captain of the ship
Billy is aboard, is symbolic to Pilate who condemned Jesus even though he did not personally believe
in the accusations. Captain Vere sentenced Billy to be hanged and Billy s last words were God bless
Captain Vere! (80). This is symbolic to how Jesus was able to forgive the even the people who falsely
condemned him just as Billy did. Although Billy shows multiple symbolic qualities to Jesus,

Censorship Is Monitoring Or Withholding Information Essay
Censorship is monitoring or withholding information. The information can come from a book, drama,
media, or any other form of entertainment; but it is usually considered a threat to the consumer. Yet the
consumer is not always the audience. Sometimes the threat is to a politician or government official.
The debate over topics in the realm of what is acceptable and what should be banned only continues to
rise as more taboo topics become acceptable. Some argue that keeping certain things behind closed
doors is imperative for a harmonious living place. Others say that a small discourse is critical to
remain sane. Censorship is a way of protecting society from itself. Leaders and parental figures can
make the choice to monitor what is read, watched, and consumed, but until the world lives the life
worthy of a children s book the effort is futile. While the narrative being taught may be inappropriate
or harsher it doesn t decrease the value of it.
Arguments are shown throughout everyday life over every topic. The question isn t, When will society
stop fighting the norm? The question is, When will society stop fighting change? The world evolves
with every second. With that evolution society blurs the line with what is acceptable and not. Sixty
years ago the idea of two boys kissing was the equivalent of burning a baby in church on a Sunday
morning. Today, two men kissing is celebrated with its own parade. Social norms and ideals have been

Persecution In Vietnam
The wife of a Vietnamese pastor was severely mistreated and beaten up by authorities during a
questioning, Barnabas Aid reports. Pastor Nguyen Cong Chinch, a Vietnamese freedom activist, was
jailed in 2012 for his alleged involvement in accusations against the government s suppression of
religion freedom. On May 11, it was his wife Tran Thi Hong s turn to be questioned by Vietnamese
authorities about her illegal Lutheran faith and her links to foreign media, Worthy News relays.
Barnabas Aid says the abuse was part of a move to harass the Christian couple. It is not the first time

The Pros And Cons Of Natural Evils
Good can come from evil
Evil is the extreme moral wickedness that results in the suffering of others. This can come in two
forms, physical evils and moral evils. Good is moral right that strengthens and brings joy to people.
One of the greatest evils of humanity was killing Jesus Christ the Son of God. However, this resulted
in one of the greatest goods in our world. Good Friday occurring meant that the world could be saved
from death. No matter the degree, I believe that all evil can result in some good.
Natural evils can result in solidarity amongst communities and love and support to those affected. A
natural evil is a tremendous suffering that wasn t inflicted by humans and was due to the nature of our
world. These include events such as natural disasters like Typhoon Haiyan and Ash Wednesday
Bushfires. This type of evil brings traumatic effects and devastate communities through loss of lives
and destruction. Typhoon Haiyan occurred in 2013 and caused a devastating 6,340 fatalities. The Ash
Wednesday Bushfires took place in 1983 causing 75 deaths and injuring thousands more.
After the terror of Typhoon Haiyan and Ash Wednesday, countless people around the globe shared
their love, aid and support to the affected. This is evident through volunteers helping relief activities
through programs like Caritas. People around the globe also donated resources. I personally
experienced the compassion given to the Philippines from Typhoon Haiyan. My parish and school

In theory, it has been proved that futures and swaps can be equal to the combination of forwards. (Hull
J C, 1997)Generally, a foreign exchange settlement contract will be signed by banks and their
customers, which stipulates the type of foreign currency to be used, the sum, the exchange rates and
duration. On the due date when income or expenditure of foreign exchange occurs, currency exchange
settlement will be operated in accordance with the contract. In order to improve efficiency, it s
necessary to adjust the hedging when using forward contracts. (Brealey R, Kaplanis E. 1995)When the
interest rate fluctuates randomly, the forwards strategy can be divided into three smaller parts: the
Minimum Variance Hedging, Merton / Breeden Hedging and speculation. (Briys E, Solnik B.
1992)When the interest rate is certain, there is no price difference between futures contracts and
forward contracts. Perfect hedge can be achieved, no matter what type of hedging tools is used.
However, the two is no longer able to replace each other when interest rates move randomly, because
of the existence of marking to market in futures market operation. The above selection is based on the
effectiveness of futures and forwards. Next, the selection rules will emphasis on other features.
Futures contracts are standardized by the Exchange, where the transactions usually take place.

Describe The Relationship Between Termites And Dermatobia...
1. A phoretic relationship is when two different species, who benefit from one another, travel together
throughout their relationship. An example of phoresis is the species of fly, Dermatobia hominis. The
fly attaches the larvae to another insect such as a mosquito and when the mosquito travels and feeds
on an animal or human, the eggs hatch and the larvae burrows itself into it s skin.
2. Mutualism is when both parties of the relationship benefit from the association. Obligatory
mutualism is when both species depend on one another in the relationship because otherwise they
would not be able to survive alone.
3. The obligatory relationship between termites and gut protozoa is very important. Termites bodies do
not produce the necessary enzymes that are essential in digesting the cellulose in wood. The protozoa

17. Two individual ciliates unite and fuse their pellicles at the point of contact. The macronucleus in
each ciliate disintegrate and then the micronuclei undergo meiosis to produce four haploid pronuclei
and two of four of these pronuclei degenerate. The migratory pronucleus from each individual ciliate
moves into the other to fuse with the stationary pronucleus and restores the diploid status. The cells
then separate and undergo nuclear division to produce macronuclei. The resulting cells are called
exconjugates and are now ready to undergo sexual

Is The Flag Of The United States Of America Considered...
Could disrespecting the flag of the United States of America considered patriotic? It all depends on the
scenario. In the article Patriotism by Igor Primoratz, he mentions the philosophical study conducted by
Stephen Nathanson, who states patriotism is defined as Special affection for one s country , Special
concern for the well being of the country , and Willingness to sacrifice to promote the country s good.
These properties can be seen through a number of different scenarios including protests. Recently the
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided to protest recent police brutality towards
African Americans and minorities. During the first 49ers preseason games at first sitting in during the
National Anthem, later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

endorsements... people are discussing it. This embodies what we are about. In the United States we are
entitled to our own beliefs and our ability to have a voice. Through the actions of the players voicing
their beliefs, the entire scenario has gained national attention. Colin Kaepernick s among other athletes
concern over this situation demonstrates their affection for this country in the hopes for improvement
of this country. Through his protests the entire country has engaged in debate his actions and the topic
he stands for.
A special concern for the well being of the country is an indication that one is patriotic. As the protests

Critical Summary Safe Area Gorazde Essay
Abandonment and Neglect in Gorazde. In his Safe Area Gorazde Joe Sacco describes his experience
visiting a Muslim enclave during the Bosnian War of 1991 1995. Tragically, this work is based on
testimonies of residents of Gorazde, allegedly a UN protected area where Bosnian Muslims are able to
take refuge to avoid the ethnic cleansing perpetrated by the Serbian army. Gorazde is anything but
protected which Sacco demonstrates throughout the book by ridiculing the UN and the US who are
able to and responsible for protecting the residents of such enclaves, but instead turn a blind eye to
what was going on. ...the U.N. extended safe area status to other Bosnian enclaves, including Gorazde.

The personal nature of the story is communicated through the author s experiences and by the people
of Gorazde themselves. Taking abandonment as an example, we follow Sacco as he travels down the
blue road which Bosnian Muslims cannot escape their suffering, the very same road which the UN
shares with Serbian ethnic cleansers. Here we have the international abandonment of the enclave.
Relayed to us by the people of Gorazde, is their abandonment of one another based on ethnicity.
Slightly more subtle is Sacco s constant communication of the senselessness of the abandonment
faced by Bosnian Muslims. In nearly every panel there is a sense of tragic absurdity to the whole
situation. We are invited by Sacco to feel as though we are abandoning the characters when Sacco
waives his blue card and leaves the Gorazde for the first time. Sacco tersely and pointedly expresses
the sentiment with, ...catch ya later! (65). This is a phrase that may have come naturally to Sacco but
also could have been designed with the majority of his reading audience in mind. The third level of
abandonment, which is central and speaks to the Bosnian conflict itself, is the abandonment of
community. Throughout the first portion of the work, Sacco takes care to repeat and emphasize
neighbors as a motif. This motif hits its first shocking climax in The First Attack . Sacco depicts the
first armed attack on the civilian population of Gorazde as

The Esthetic Theory and A Portrait of the Artist as a...
The Esthetic Theory and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
In A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Stephen Dedalus defines beauty and the artist s
comprehension of his/her own art. Stephen uses his esthetic theory with theories borrowed from St.
Thomas Aquinas and Plato. The discourse can be broken down into three main sections: 1) A
definitions of beauty and art. 2) The apprehension and qualifications of beauty. 3) The artist s view of
his/her own work. I will explain how the first two sections of his esthetic theory relate to Stephen.
Furthermore, I will argue that in the last section, Joyce is speaking of Stephen Dedalus and A Portrait
of the Artist as a Young Man as his art.
First, Stephen states the theory that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In that point of Stephen s life, he realized that his desires, and anyone s desires, are only animal
reflexes: We are all animals. I also am an animal. (Pg. 149).
Given that beauty is only intelligible and not physical, It [beauty] awakens, or ought to awaken, or
induces, or ought to induce, an esthetic stasis, an ideal pity or an ideal terror, a stasis called forth. (Pg.
150). Stephen then gives a definition of art, Art is the human disposition of sensible or intelligible
matter for an esthetic end. (Pg. 150). That art is formed from the Gross Earth, meaning the artist s
experiences. Art does not start as something beautiful, but from experiences that are rough and raw.
What transforms these experiences into art is how one can recreate the esthetic emotions felt by the
artist. An example of this is when Stephen sees the Bird Girl when wandering on the shore of the Irish
Sea. He experiences such enlightenment of only the soul and mind: Her eyes had called him and his
soul had leaped at the call. To live, to err, to fall, to triumph, to recreate life out of life. A wild angel
had appeared to him, the angel of mortal youth and beauty, an envoy from the fair courts of life, to
throw open before him in an instant of ecstasy the gates of all the ways of error and glory. (Pg. 123).
This epiphany, according to the esthetic theory, would be considered pure art because Stephen
experienced it esthetically.
The next stage of this discourse,

Social Problems In Prison
Define social problems. A social problem is something that society or certain groups in society see as
threat or disruption to the system.
Prison system: Examine and give three solutions to help fix the prisons. The prison system was
designed to house criminals. I see no true form of rehabilitation or programs in place to help inmates
merge back into society. My first initiative would be for all inmates to get some form of training and
education. Although this already offered, I would ensure that they receive a quality education that they
can actually use in society. My second correction to the prison system would be the mindsets of the
inmates. When you place a lot of prisoners in one confined space, you are ultimately producing
negativity and feeding into the idea of a closed mindset. Placing them behind bars and closed doors
can impose the idea that I am an animal, and I will never have another chance at life. Instead, I would
have intervention programs and real talk counseling to get the inmates to truly question their existence
and how some of their behaviors could be corrected. Lastly, I would separate violent and nonviolent
offenders. Many prisoners are placed together without much examination of their records. This creates
friction, and leads to a hostile environment. I would have the inmates placed according to the
infractions committed, and I am sure that there will be less reports of prison violence.

Bear Creek Ecosystem Lab Report
Introduction In stream based ecosystems, there is a rather delicate balance between the life found and
the relative levels of particular substances in said stream. We use Bioindicators to give us an idea of
the health of a particular ecosystem, which are in turn heavily influenced by the contents of the
environment. Keeping this in mind our group set out to investigate two streams that are in two
completely different areas. This was organized in attempt to get samples from two streams that would
have very distinct contents, serving as a control for our overall hypothesis. Being that the bioindicators
found in each stream would evidently coincide with the levels of substances such as oxygen, nitrogen,
and phosphate to name a few. Organisms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is difficult to gauge to what extent many of the substances measured by the chem contributed to the
bioindicators considering there was little difference between the majority the meausrments. However
conditions such as temp and pH which showed significant differences coincide with what we already
know of animal ecology and homeostasis. Though we didn t see a large difference between the ion
concentrations, the difference was enough to create slight shifts in pH such that the stream as whole
would be more basic at Cherry Creek as opposed to Bear Creek which was closer to a neutral pH.
Which for most organism is ideal in a habitat allowing them to regulate their own pH without dangers
and thus allowing further reproduction. However our overall results do not completely account for the
differences in pH we saw due to the lack of measurements of phosphate in the Bear Creek analysis.
This would further be exasperated by any mistakes made in the measurements of oxygen and
ammonia. It should also be noted that we also had to account for the fact that it was summer and thus
much hotter than what we would normally expect; thus if a higher temperature in conjunction with
other factors discourages or incourages bioindicators we would have no way knowing since we cannot

How Does Raskolnikov s View Of Religion
Religion has been perceived through various eyes and interpreted in many different ways. Some
people strike against it altogether and do not believe in any of its concepts. In his novel, Crime and
Punishment, Fyodor Dostoevsky reveals a few certain underlying connections between religion and a
person s actions through two main characters, Rodion Romanovitch Raskolnikov and Sofya (Sonia)
Semyonovna Marmeladov; Raskolnikov strayed away from religion, whereas Sonia was a firm
believer and advocate for God. Corresponding to Dostoevsky s novel are the works of Georg Wilhelm
Friedrich Hegel, who described his position on religion, showing and revealing his insight into the
matter of religion, its concepts, and its possible connections. Raskolnikov s nihilistic views ultimately
initiated the schism between himself and the ideals of the Church. Because Raskolnikov thought
himself to be above the ordinary populace, he committed an act of murder, with the confidence ...

you, has given you over to the devil (Dostoevsky 413). Sonia believed that Raskolnikov should seek
redemption and that he should confess. Raskolnikov had actively sought to turn away from God and
was ashamed of giving himself up to the authorities, but Sonia s persistence ultimately convinced him
to seek God. Through Sonia, God was trying to save Raskolnikov. Sonia s character is symbolic of
God being Justice, in so far as he eternally brings the individual back to the universal (Hegel).
Raskolnikov s redemption and reconciliation with God and the Church commences when he accepts
the cross that Sonia presents to him. The cross is symbolic of suffering, and through its acceptance,
Raskolnikov takes up his own figurative cross and begins his path to being resurrected from his

Upper Limb Injuries
Participation in sports can affect the upper body extremity in a positive or negative way. Sport injuries
of the upper limbs can happen while playing amateur or professional sports. In the article entitled:

injuries and a treatment plan for each. The article evaluates the management of upper limb tendon
injuries from the physiopathology and the new methods of injury treatment that are common in Brazil.

Ruptures of the rotator cuff are more often seen in players over the age of 40 years. This is because of
the wear and dehydration that tendon structures suffer with advancing age. (Silva, 2010) The younger
sports population usually experience tendinopathy. Treating a rotator cuff injury is usually more
successful in the older population and this is mainly due to the fact that the person is no longer active
in sports. On the other hand an active player does not feel the pain and therefore continues to play the
sport. The repair of a rotator cuff can be performed both arthroscopically and open procedure. (Silva,
2010) Injuries can also be experienced in the elbow and the wrist. In most instance, it the pain or
injury is due to the bone or muscle overload. There are also some not so common injuries of the
shoulder and elbow. They include, nerve, stress induced bone injuries, tumors, muscle tendon tears
and chondral injuries. ( (Silva,

Emmett Barcalow Moral Egoism Analysis
Capitalism is more than an economic system it is, in many ways, a philosophical view of life, a belief
in how people should act and how the world should be. Capitalism even spills over into ethical
decisions, based on a theory called Moral Egoism. Emmett Barcalow introduces the concept of Moral
Egoism in chapter four of the third edition of his textbook, Moral Philosophy, on page 71. He
describes Moral Egoism as the belief that one should make moral decisions based on one s own self
interest. Moral Egoism allows for behavior as genuinely helpful and benign as eating well and staying
fit since you would do this to boost your personal health, which is in your self interest and as sinister
as lying, cheating, stealing, and even murdering since

Disengagement Theory Case Study
In a contemporary social work practice, Mr Anderson report detailed his symptoms which points
towards possibility of early brain damage (dementia), although further investigation is important for
early intervention and to find out what support he and his carer needs. Everyone grieves differently
and Mr Anderson s grieving process could have exacerbated his misuses of alcohol, isolation and his
mutual withdrawer, which reinforces the psychosocial theories; the disengagement theory, activity
theory and continuity theory, however, this log will explore the disengagement theory and activity
theory. Disengagement theory claimed that ageing is inevitable, it is natural and acceptable for older
people to withdraw from the society according to Cumming Henry, (1961). Drawing from a biological
perspective, Mr Anderson s physical energy has decreased, as older adult energy diminishes as they
age; also, his interest in the society has lessen, he now has fewer interaction. From psychological
level, he has been showing less interest in things that are going on around him and he spend more time
looking inward and embracing his alcohol ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, social isolation is a common condition among the older people, which often affect their
wellbeing, health and quality of life (Richard et al. 2009:338). However, the support for
disengagement theory is limited, and it s has been criticised that it lacks empirical supports with no
research base, as many older adults wish to remain active and engaged in their community activities,
therefore social withdrawal doesn t have to be inevitable, it s a process and for some people its occurs
over time and not just at once (Harold

Mandatory Military Draft
n some countries, citizens are required to serve in the military for a year or more. The United States
doesn t enforce the same rules as them, but should they? People may think its cruel to make people
join the military, some may say that it s a good thing. So far there are only 26 countries that do so. The
26 that does so, does it for their safety. If everybody in your country had some military training, would
that be good or would it go wrong?
Out of the 26 countries that has a mandatory military, the U.S is not one of them. Every country has an
army and their own military. The countries that have a mandatory military are small need to have

our country safer. They also say that is it reduces unemployment down the long run. Others say that

desires. Wandering up to the witches Macbeth calls out to the Witches, I conjure you, by that which

saying something different to Macbeth. The first, come out as head in armour, proclaiming, Macbeth!

Clinical Companionship Research Paper
The age of renaissance is gone and the Renaissance man is dead. This is the age of the man with
specialties and subspecialties. A few centuries ago, the ideal man of science was the one who knew a
little bit of each and every field. He would know medicine, arts, physics, mathematics, biology,
chemistry, etc. That man cannot survive now because the depth of knowledge has grown exponentially
over the past few decades. Any one, perhaps, now knows more than the leading scientists of that time.

myself drawn to internal medicine, emergency medicine, neurology, anesthesiology and radiology

important to be a good physician. Several diseases can be picked up on a good exam. I realized this
when I was rotating in Mayo hospital because back home we have only limited access to latest

away by a meat packing corporation for the sole intention of slaughter and use of its meat. In Okja
(pronounced OAK JAH) , a science fiction/drama film directed by Bong Joon ho, this is exactly what
occurs. For ten blissful years, young Mija has formed a strong bond with Okja, a massive pig and an
even bigger friend, at her home in the mountains of South Korea. This completely takes another route
when family owned multinational conglomerate Mirando Corporation takes Okja for themselves and
sends her to New York city, where an image obsessed and self promoting CEO has vicious plans for
Mija s gentle companion. With no distinct plan but a single minded goal, Mija sets out on a rescue
mission. This film was recently released on June 28th, 2017 on Netflix, and just in the span of weeks
it has left an immense effect on people worldwide. The arrival of this outstanding film at this
particular moment in time, gives it an added sense of significance to the current crossfire between
animal activism, corporate greed and scientific ethics. Okja is worth watching because of its action
packed events and valuable lessons. As a science fiction/drama film, Okja provides all elements of the
criteria. It includes special effects, animation, and issues that are relevant to the real world, thus

Emergency Plumber And Roofing Research Paper
Keyword: Emergency Plumber Roofing service Tips to Choose an Emergency Plumber Roofing
service All homeowners will find the need to hire a professional plumber or a roofing contractor at one
point or another. It could be a storm that has damaged the roof where it is in need of emergency repair
to quickly get back life to normal. Also, it could be a plumbing problem that occurred suddenly which
needs to fixed before it causes major damage to the house. Either way though some minor repairs
could be done by homeowners with little knowledge and skills, most of the time many proofing and
plumbing problems require the skills of a professional plumber or roofing contractor. At such times, it
is necessary to choose a professional who is local and well qualified for the job. Equally important ...

Some offer the whole package whereas others offer specialized services in one or two areas. The best
way is to call the plumbing or roofing company that you are planning to consider and discuss about
the requirements before you agree to hire them or get a quote from them. A valuable tool is to reach
out to family, friends or neighbors for local referrals. Usually customers who are satisfied with a
professional plumber or a roofing company are likely to recommend their services to people whom
they know. So finding local referrals is a quick and reliable method to get the right plumber or roofing
contractor. Also, local plumbers and roofing contractors are the best choice as they would be familiar
with the local rules and regulations. Such companies also would know the local suppliers in the
community for repair parts and suppliers. Do not go by just one referral. Try to get at least three to
four referrals or recommendations from family or friends. Then check for reviews for all those
companies to find out, which is being recommended the most in your area or

Media s Effect On The Black Society
Media has a detrimental effect on the black society. Blacks have very little, if any control in what the
media displays. How many African American Television network companies are there? How many
African American Television companies are competing with the big named companies who rack in
millions or billions of dollars? It is logical to say whomever controls the media, controls the mind.
Television is a common form of media . A lot of things that we watch has been carefully hand picked
and crafted for blacks but not by blacks. There are currently no Black owned television networks. The
question is; who is feeding our minds? Television network companies are almost completely
dominated by middle aged to elderly Caucasian male. Many may assume that BET is black owned;
however as of 2001 BET has been taken over by Viacom . Who owns Viacom? Sumner Redstone, an
elderly Caucasian male. BET is the most prominent network in targeting Black households and
reaches over 90 Million households. Having no black owned television networks lead to a non black
persons perception of black people and black culture. This displays a fabricated experience and
idealism of what these networks think black people are or should be. It is equivalent to an individual
making a documentary on what it is like being Oprah Winfrey but they are not Oprah. Winfrey.

Stability Strategy
2. Stability Strategy:
A stability strategy is adopted by a firm when:
1. It continues to serve the public in the same products or services.
2. Its main strategic decisions focus on incremental improvement of financial performance
Stability strategies are implemented by steady as it goes approaches to decisions. Many major
functional changes are not made in the products, services, markets or functions. For the stability
strategy to be effective, a company will focus its resources where it currently has or can rapidly
develop a meaningful competitive advantage over the other firms in the industry.
A stability strategy may involve taking defensive moves such as taking legal action or obtaining a
patent or copyright to reduce competition. Stability usually involves constantly monitoring the new
technological and other developments to make sure the strategy continues to make sense.
Stability strategy is not a do nothing approach. It also does not mean that the firm has deserted its
profit growth. The stability strategy can be designed to increase profits through such ways as
improving efficiency in current operations. Although growth is appealing, it is not always the most
effective strategy. For a single industry firm the stability strategy is one that maintains ... Show more

Pros And Cons Of Tulare Lake
Can This Lake Be Restored?
Now known as the phantom lake, the Tulare Lake is a perfect example of one of all environmental
casualties that have occured because of mining and farming. This once incredibly rich in wildlife lake
is located in the San Joaquin Valley. West of the Mississippi, the Tulare Lake was once so big it could
stretch over 690 square miles across the Central Valley.
Fed by four major rivers and a handful of smaller ones with headwaters in the Sierra Nevada, the lake
was once 60 miles from tip to tip and 36 miles wide in the center. Thousands of Yokut Indians and
other tribes lived in this rich environment (The Tribune). For many centuries, these Native Americans
lived peacefully along its great shores and abundant waters full of fish and waterfowl (San Francisco
Bay Area Independent Media Center). However in the 1930s, the Tulare Lake became dry due to dams
that were installed by farmers. When these farmers installed these dams, they choked of ... Show more

The real question here however is why these dams were installed. Well you see, it all goes back to the
Gold Rush. Most accounts of the environmental damage caused by the Gold Rush focus on the direct
effects of mining. During the gold rush, many farmers saw the open opportunity to take advantage of
miners that had traveled from across the world. They increased the value of their food to outrageous
prices. Eggs were being sold for a dollar. A slice of bread was another dollar, two dollars if you
wanted it buttered. Today, adjusted for inflation, that one dollar egg would cost $30.30 (An Eccentric
Culinary History). A skilled mason back then would have earned about $1.75 for a day of hard labor.
How does this connect to the reason why Tulare Lake is now dry? Well back then, the Tulare Basin
was full of wildlife. It was filled with fish, mollusks, waterfowl, turtles and sea mammals. This was

Similarities Between The Christian Rosary And The Buddhist...
A religious individual may most gloriously carry out his or her own rituals, as a part of his or her
cultural identity, but the moment, that person starts to build a wall of separation between the self and
the rest of humanity, coaxed by the textual commands of a scripture, the healthy religiousness turns
into dangerous fundamentalism, which is a threat to both the self and the society. (Abhijit Naskar). In
the recent history of our society, the actions of religious extremists have driven people apart, and
hatred has grown from a lack of ecumenism between those of different faiths. By focusing on the
differences between religions, and not on the latent similarities that inherently exist between different
faiths, people become blinded to how various religions are all rooted in the same philosophies.
However, by focusing on the similarities of different religion, through philosophies, rituals, or
teachings, we can then learn how to tear down walls, grow as people, and become cognitive of our
joint humanity. With the necessity of ecumenical relations in our community, it serves humans to see
the similarities between the faiths that can divide us. On such similarity exists between the rituals of
the Christian Rosary and the Buddhist tradition of Prayer Wheels, both are physical guides for
repetitive prayers and personal reflection and meditation. The Catholic tradition of the Rosary is a
long held practice of Marian prayer which dates back millennia. The tradition of the

that come with it. Ariel is trapped by her father and that fact that she has a mermaid tail instead of
legs. Many people often have similar experiences where they feel stuck in a situation, meeting, or

  • 2. Building A Sustainable Campus For Higher Education For decades now, world leaders have set aside negotiations concerning climate change because the issue was not convenient to deal with. This approach has benefited some, who bear the cost of fixing the environment, and has harmed future generations of humans who now have to deal with the mess that climate change has left behind. A glimmer of hope in reaction to the deal of Chinese and American fossil fuel reduction is matched by a stock market that has favored green technology is a starting point for restoring the human right of a clean environment. The University of Massachusetts and the Political Economy Research Institute represent the efforts and new ideas that will pave the way for ideas that will inspire a healthy economy that has a complimentary environment. The University demonstrates these efforts through its numerous policies and practices that aim at establishing a sustainable campus for higher education. Among these revolutionary approaches to a green campus is the campus s first public level 3 electric vehicle charger located next to the transportation services building. The level 3 charger represents the University s dedication to a sustainable campus, which can be used as a working model for other universities and even small towns, and how sustainable cars are the vehicle for positive environmental change. The charger was opened for use in February of 2014 and presented by Chancellor Subbaswamy and state Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Justification of Reverse Discrimination in Hiring Essay In The Justification of Reverse Discrimination in Hiring, Tom Beauchamp displays statistics of underrepresented races and genders in institutions. The inequality is due to the underlying persistent racism originating decades ago. It has been pervasively executed despite federal laws for equality. The expectation for a level playing field is not a reality, as statistically show with underrepresented African Americans (1. Beauchamp, CC2011, p 0228). Beauchamp points out that at first sight, reverse discrimination appears immoral, because it crafts a prejudice for one race over another. However, he asserts that this inference is not applicable in the real world where ubiquitous prejudice still exists as indicated by statistics. Because we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is an overrepresentation of minorities in inferior schools, living in a crime infested city, and lacking family support (4. Rachels, CC2011, p 0203). If a minority with disadvantages reaches the same qualifications as an advantaged Caucasian, the minority is more deserving, indicative of the increased effort needed to put in. Fairness is a necessary condition in Rachels argument and minorities that are qualified for institutions are generalized to have put in more sweat. In some cases when this generalization is true, preferential treatment is considered fair. To establish a level playing field, Beauchamp suggests a policy of strong affirmative action. This includes quotas to be implemented and supported by government sanctions in a timely manner. Commitment to quotas will statistically show progress towards a society built on equality. Beauchamp believes that laws are ineffectively implemented and it is unclear to tell if institutions are intentionally discriminating unless numbers are available (5. Beauchamp, CC2011, p 0230). Beauchamp s policy is an argument where the end result morally justifies the method to get there. However, Rachels suggests a moderate form of reverse discrimination where in a pool of equally qualified candidates, those challenged by unearned disadvantages get preference. This consequentialist argument suggests that young minorities do not have role models or mentors to emulate. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Symbols are used to represent something else. They can... Symbols are used to represent something else. They can range from a red octagon representing a stop sign to a fish representing Jesus. They give depth and entice imagination and expressive thinking. They are often overlooked but can give new meaning to the work when discovered. Symbols and symbolism can be found all around in language, in art, and in literature [PAR]. Language, in and of itself, is a bunch of symbols combined in a way to represent ideas and physical objects. In art, an artist can use symbolism to portray an underlying message behind his or her painting. Symbolism, within irony, plot, characters, etc., is used in literature [SAS]. In the novella, Billy Budd, Herman Melville effectively uses symbolism throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the novella, Melville gives characteristics to Billy that symbolize Jesus. In the beginning of the story Melville relates Billy to a Saint Bernard dog, self consciousness he seemed to have little or none, or about as much as we may reasonably impute to a dog of Saint Bernard s breed (11). Ironically, the Saint Bernard breed, not only by protecting people, is very apt to save people which correlates to Jesus being sent to save all people from their sins[COMBO]. With Billy s innocence and being enclosed in his bud form, he is negligent to the evil in the world until he meets Claggart. One to whom not yet has been proffered the questionable apple of knowledge parallels the story of Adam and Eve and how they were unaware of the evil around them until they ate the apple from the tree God forbade them to (11). Claggart represents the evil and is the ultimate downfall and cause of Billy s own death. Billy, because he killed Claggart, is hanged [PER]. Captain Vere, the captain of the ship Billy is aboard, is symbolic to Pilate who condemned Jesus even though he did not personally believe in the accusations. Captain Vere sentenced Billy to be hanged and Billy s last words were God bless Captain Vere! (80). This is symbolic to how Jesus was able to forgive the even the people who falsely condemned him just as Billy did. Although Billy shows multiple symbolic qualities to Jesus, ... • 7. Censorship Is Monitoring Or Withholding Information Essay Censorship is monitoring or withholding information. The information can come from a book, drama, media, or any other form of entertainment; but it is usually considered a threat to the consumer. Yet the consumer is not always the audience. Sometimes the threat is to a politician or government official. The debate over topics in the realm of what is acceptable and what should be banned only continues to rise as more taboo topics become acceptable. Some argue that keeping certain things behind closed doors is imperative for a harmonious living place. Others say that a small discourse is critical to remain sane. Censorship is a way of protecting society from itself. Leaders and parental figures can make the choice to monitor what is read, watched, and consumed, but until the world lives the life worthy of a children s book the effort is futile. While the narrative being taught may be inappropriate or harsher it doesn t decrease the value of it. Arguments are shown throughout everyday life over every topic. The question isn t, When will society stop fighting the norm? The question is, When will society stop fighting change? The world evolves with every second. With that evolution society blurs the line with what is acceptable and not. Sixty years ago the idea of two boys kissing was the equivalent of burning a baby in church on a Sunday morning. Today, two men kissing is celebrated with its own parade. Social norms and ideals have been ripping down the cloak of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Natural Evils Good can come from evil Evil is the extreme moral wickedness that results in the suffering of others. This can come in two forms, physical evils and moral evils. Good is moral right that strengthens and brings joy to people. One of the greatest evils of humanity was killing Jesus Christ the Son of God. However, this resulted in one of the greatest goods in our world. Good Friday occurring meant that the world could be saved from death. No matter the degree, I believe that all evil can result in some good. Natural evils can result in solidarity amongst communities and love and support to those affected. A natural evil is a tremendous suffering that wasn t inflicted by humans and was due to the nature of our world. These include events such as natural disasters like Typhoon Haiyan and Ash Wednesday Bushfires. This type of evil brings traumatic effects and devastate communities through loss of lives and destruction. Typhoon Haiyan occurred in 2013 and caused a devastating 6,340 fatalities. The Ash Wednesday Bushfires took place in 1983 causing 75 deaths and injuring thousands more. After the terror of Typhoon Haiyan and Ash Wednesday, countless people around the globe shared their love, aid and support to the affected. (Hull J C, 1997)Generally, a foreign exchange settlement contract will be signed by banks and their customers, which stipulates the type of foreign currency to be used, the sum, the exchange rates and duration. On the due date when income or expenditure of foreign exchange occurs, currency exchange settlement will be operated in accordance with the contract. In order to improve efficiency, it s necessary to adjust the hedging when using forward contracts. (Brealey R, Kaplanis E. 1995)When the interest rate fluctuates randomly, the forwards strategy can be divided into three smaller parts: the Minimum Variance Hedging, Merton / Breeden Hedging and speculation. (Briys E, Solnik B. 1992)When the interest rate is certain, there is no price difference between futures contracts and forward contracts. Perfect hedge can be achieved, no matter what type of hedging tools is used. A phoretic relationship is when two different species, who benefit from one another, travel together throughout their relationship. An example of phoresis is the species of fly, Dermatobia hominis. Obligatory mutualism is when both species depend on one another in the relationship because otherwise they would not be able to survive alone. 3. In the article Patriotism by Igor Primoratz, he mentions the philosophical study conducted by Stephen Nathanson, who states patriotism is defined as Special affection for one s country , Special concern for the well being of the country , and Willingness to sacrifice to promote the country s good. • 15. Critical Summary Safe Area Gorazde Essay Abandonment and Neglect in Gorazde. In his Safe Area Gorazde Joe Sacco describes his experience visiting a Muslim enclave during the Bosnian War of 1991 1995. Tragically, this work is based on testimonies of residents of Gorazde, allegedly a UN protected area where Bosnian Muslims are able to take refuge to avoid the ethnic cleansing perpetrated by the Serbian army. Gorazde is anything but protected which Sacco demonstrates throughout the book by ridiculing the UN and the US who are able to and responsible for protecting the residents of such enclaves, but instead turn a blind eye to what was going on. ...the U.N. extended safe area status to other Bosnian enclaves, including Gorazde. The personal nature of the story is communicated through the author s experiences and by the people of Gorazde themselves. Taking abandonment as an example, we follow Sacco as he travels down the blue road which Bosnian Muslims cannot escape their suffering, the very same road which the UN shares with Serbian ethnic cleansers. Here we have the international abandonment of the enclave. Relayed to us by the people of Gorazde, is their abandonment of one another based on ethnicity. Slightly more subtle is Sacco s constant communication of the senselessness of the abandonment faced by Bosnian Muslims. In nearly every panel there is a sense of tragic absurdity to the whole situation. We are invited by Sacco to feel as though we are abandoning the characters when Sacco waives his blue card and leaves the Gorazde for the first time. Sacco tersely and pointedly expresses the sentiment with, ...catch ya later! (65). This is a phrase that may have come naturally to Sacco but also could have been designed with the majority of his reading audience in mind. The third level of abandonment, which is central and speaks to the Bosnian conflict itself, is the abandonment of community. Throughout the first portion of the work, Sacco takes care to repeat and emphasize neighbors as a motif. This motif hits its first shocking climax in The First Attack . The Esthetic Theory and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man In A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Stephen Dedalus defines beauty and the artist s comprehension of his/her own art. Stephen uses his esthetic theory with theories borrowed from St. Thomas Aquinas and Plato. The discourse can be broken down into three main sections: 1) A definitions of beauty and art. 2) The apprehension and qualifications of beauty. 3) The artist s view of his/her own work. I will explain how the first two sections of his esthetic theory relate to Stephen. Furthermore, I will argue that in the last section, Joyce is speaking of Stephen Dedalus and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man as his art. First, Stephen states the theory that ... Given that beauty is only intelligible and not physical, It [beauty] awakens, or ought to awaken, or induces, or ought to induce, an esthetic stasis, an ideal pity or an ideal terror, a stasis called forth. (Pg. 150). Stephen then gives a definition of art, Art is the human disposition of sensible or intelligible matter for an esthetic end. (Pg. 150). That art is formed from the Gross Earth, meaning the artist s experiences. Art does not start as something beautiful, but from experiences that are rough and raw. What transforms these experiences into art is how one can recreate the esthetic emotions felt by the artist. An example of this is when Stephen sees the Bird Girl when wandering on the shore of the Irish Sea. He experiences such enlightenment of only the soul and mind: Her eyes had called him and his soul had leaped at the call. To live, to err, to fall, to triumph, to recreate life out of life. A wild angel had appeared to him, the angel of mortal youth and beauty, an envoy from the fair courts of life, to throw open before him in an instant of ecstasy the gates of all the ways of error and glory. (Pg. 123). This epiphany, according to the esthetic theory, would be considered pure art because Stephen experienced it esthetically. The next stage of this discourse, ... Prison system: Examine and give three solutions to help fix the prisons. The prison system was designed to house criminals. I see no true form of rehabilitation or programs in place to help inmates merge back into society. My first initiative would be for all inmates to get some form of training and education. Although this already offered, I would ensure that they receive a quality education that they can actually use in society. My second correction to the prison system would be the mindsets of the inmates. When you place a lot of prisoners in one confined space, you are ultimately producing negativity and feeding into the idea of a closed mindset. Placing them behind bars and closed doors can impose the idea that I am an animal, and I will never have another chance at life. Instead, I would have intervention programs and real talk counseling to get the inmates to truly question their existence and how some of their behaviors could be corrected. Lastly, I would separate violent and nonviolent offenders. Many prisoners are placed together without much examination of their records. This creates friction, and leads to a hostile environment. I would have the inmates placed according to the infractions committed, and I am sure that there will be less reports of prison violence. Should Donald Trump be impeached? There has ... Bear Creek Ecosystem Lab Report Introduction In stream based ecosystems, there is a rather delicate balance between the life found and the relative levels of particular substances in said stream. We use Bioindicators to give us an idea of the health of a particular ecosystem, which are in turn heavily influenced by the contents of the environment. Keeping this in mind our group set out to investigate two streams that are in two completely different areas. This was organized in attempt to get samples from two streams that would have very distinct contents, serving as a control for our overall hypothesis. Being that the bioindicators found in each stream would evidently coincide with the levels of substances such as oxygen, nitrogen, and phosphate to name a few. Organisms ... Though we didn t see a large difference between the ion concentrations, the difference was enough to create slight shifts in pH such that the stream as whole would be more basic at Cherry Creek as opposed to Bear Creek which was closer to a neutral pH. Which for most organism is ideal in a habitat allowing them to regulate their own pH without dangers and thus allowing further reproduction. However our overall results do not completely account for the differences in pH we saw due to the lack of measurements of phosphate in the Bear Creek analysis. This would further be exasperated by any mistakes made in the measurements of oxygen and ammonia. It should also be noted that we also had to account for the fact that it was summer and thus much hotter than what we would normally expect; thus if a higher temperature in conjunction with other factors discourages or incourages bioindicators we would have no way knowing since we cannot create a control for the ... West of the Mississippi, the Tulare Lake was once so big it could stretch over 690 square miles across the Central Valley. Fed by four major rivers and a handful of smaller ones with headwaters in the Sierra Nevada, the lake was once 60 miles from tip to tip and 36 miles wide in the center. Thousands of Yokut Indians and other tribes lived in this rich environment (The Tribune). For many centuries, these Native Americans lived peacefully along its great shores and abundant waters full of fish and waterfowl (San Francisco Bay Area Independent Media Center). However in the 1930s, the Tulare Lake became dry due to dams that were installed by farmers. When these farmers installed these dams, they choked of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The real question here however is why these dams were installed. Well you see, it all goes back to the Gold Rush. Most accounts of the environmental damage caused by the Gold Rush focus on the direct effects of mining. During the gold rush, many farmers saw the open opportunity to take advantage of miners that had traveled from across the world. They increased the value of their food to outrageous prices. Eggs were being sold for a dollar. A slice of bread was another dollar, two dollars if you wanted it buttered. Today, adjusted for inflation, that one dollar egg would cost $30.30 (An Eccentric Culinary History). A skilled mason back then would have earned about $1.75 for a day of hard labor. How does this connect to the reason why Tulare Lake is now dry? Well back then, the Tulare Basin was full of wildlife. It was filled with fish, mollusks, waterfowl, turtles and sea mammals. • 33. Similarities Between The Christian Rosary And The Buddhist... A religious individual may most gloriously carry out his or her own rituals, as a part of his or her cultural identity, but the moment, that person starts to build a wall of separation between the self and the rest of humanity, coaxed by the textual commands of a scripture, the healthy religiousness turns into dangerous fundamentalism, which is a threat to both the self and the society. (Abhijit Naskar). In the recent history of our society, the actions of religious extremists have driven people apart, and hatred has grown from a lack of ecumenism between those of different faiths. By focusing on the differences between religions, and not on the latent similarities that inherently exist between different faiths, people become blinded to how various religions are all rooted in the same philosophies. However, by focusing on the similarities of different religion, through philosophies, rituals, or teachings, we can then learn how to tear down walls, grow as people, and become cognitive of our joint humanity. With the necessity of ecumenical relations in our community, it serves humans to see the similarities between the faiths that can divide us. On such similarity exists between the rituals of the Christian Rosary and the Buddhist tradition of Prayer Wheels, both are physical guides for repetitive prayers and personal reflection and meditation. The Catholic tradition of the Rosary is a long held practice of Marian prayer which dates back millennia. The tradition of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She wants to get out of her home, the ocean, and be able to experience the outside world and all of the opportunities that come with it. Ariel is trapped by her father and that fact that she has a mermaid tail instead of legs. Many people often have similar experiences where they feel stuck in a situation, meeting, or class. He or she may sing to themselves that same thing that Ariel vocalizes. The obstacles that prevent these people from leaving vary from expectations, money, and responsibilities. They describe how her great aunt had gone completely crazy at last (137). Her great aunt s descent into madness near the end of her life solidifies in the town members minds the idea that Emily s state of mind was an unavoidable result of genetics. The townspeople assume that Emily will no longer be able to change because she is becoming just as crazy as her great aunt had been before she passed away. This mental obstacle that Emily is facing is foreign to the town members, so they avoid helping as they believe that she cannot change. Emily s countless instances of stubbornness lead the townspeople to conclude that she is beyond their help. This negatively impacts Emily as they do not attempt to aid her as she slips into madness. The town members talk of Emily and her life as they describe the insanity of the family (137). Because they have seen craziness in Emily s past, they assume that she is doomed to the same things and that she cannot change because the small amount of time that she has ...
