Society constantly redefines what beauty is in women, and yet women always feel compelled to
conform to society s definition of beauty. The insecurity of women today adhere to society s definition
of beauty. By conforming to society s definition beauty they are rewarded with confidence. According
to Bordo (1989), anorexia built bodies has become the norm for women today. Most clothing stores
accommodate to these body figures by selling majority small and medium framed clothing. Tight and
skinny bodies were defined as the next generation of beauty, where priorly in the social symbolism of
a small frame was associated with being poor. It was known that those with a bulging stomach was a

active wear and accessories to make achieving this lifestyle easier. Especially brands like Lululemon

Stereotypes In The Woman Warrior
The woman warrior by Maxine Kingston elaborates readers what it was like to grow up as a female
Chinese American. Kingston came to America as a little girl with her family. Even though she was in
America, she still had to deal with old Chinese traditions. Traditions where women were seen as
useless and as slaves. But, Kingston refused to believe that women are worthless. She states, When
one of my parents or the emigrant villagers said, feeding girls is feeding cowbirds , I would thrash on
the floor and scream so hard (pg. 46). Therefore, Kingston fabricates her own versions of stories
where she portrays herself as a warrior who is a hero rather than a useless individual.
I believe Kingston tells stories to obliterate social perceptions of the woman in the traditional Chinese
society. Based on Chinese traditions that Kingston cultured from her parents and the stories that her
mother told, Kingston was under the perception that Chinese girls must only become a good wife and
bare children. However, I believe Kingston refused the gender role defined by the traditional Chinese
culture and used fictionalized stories to showcase that women are capable of doing masculine things
and at the same time can be a great mother or a wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Kingston uses her stories for a completely different approach. She uses her stories to portray
the woman, mainly herself, as a hero in the traditional Chinese society. The story of Fa Mu Lan
described in the chapter white tigers provides an alternative to the traditional Chinese beliefs about the
place of woman in the society. Kingston, portrays herself as a worrier who fights in place of her father.
I believe, she used this story to show that women are both capable of being a warrior and carrying out
their duties as a wife or a

A Brief Note On Alternative And Specialized Assignment
Podiatrist/Chiropodist Alternative and Specialized Assignment
History
Your feet are vital functions for movement and balance. They are the stems of your body that inform
and coincide with your other body parts for your body to move. The record of feet goes thousands of
years back to 1500 2400 B.C, where the ancient Egyptians demonstrated the significant
acknowledgement of the feet and hands. The limbs were notably carved on the entrance of Ankamahor
s tomb.
This profession was ostracized by the healthcare field due to the credibility and respect that was
lacking. It wasn t until later that Podiatry made its way to the surface of health society and evolved the
line of work. Dr. Stanley R. Kalish and Dr. Harold D. Schoenhaus, played a fundamental role in the
podiatry evolvement, with their constant contributions to the podiatry pursuit, their education and
philosophy has extended itself to students and other physicians. (E.Learning, 2014)
Education Requirements Before becoming a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, it will take on average
eight years of study at the university level. These steps in order:
1) Graduating from a four year accredited university in a science program (receiving an undergraduate
degree).
2) Four years at an accredited College of Podiatric Medicine.
3) The future doctor must also complete 1 3 years of hospital residency. Like many other health fields,

The Starry Night By Anne Sexton
The Starry Night Poem Analysis The Starry Night, written by Anne Sexton, makes me think about
raging fires, destruction, death, hell, and demons. The word choice in the poem is very colorful, yet
overwhelming and dark, which perplexes, yet astonishes the reader. This poem feels very depressing,
but on the contrary, active and raging with life. The sky is alive and intense, yet the town is silent and
solemn. The idea of a monstrous death is welcoming and yearned for by the speaker. The poem feels
like it is about the speaker s strong desire for a gruesome death; it feels very surreal. The black haired
tree, as depicted in Vincent Van Gogh s Starry Night (the painting this poem was inspired by), is
compared to a drowned woman in the hot sky (3). Sexton then goes on to say that the night boils (4);
the usage of words centered around heat is significant because heat can also refer to turmoil, agitation,
and bustling, which from we can infer that the speaker is irritated as well as vexed. From another
perspective, we can infer that Sexton is enforcing that the sky itself is hot and boiling, implying here
that she wants to drown in boiling water, just like the woman that the tree looks like. ... Show more

Each aspect that she desires to die without are uniquely significant. She wishes to die without a flag,
which we can infer is the symbolic white flag of surrender. This means that the speaker does not want
to die at the hands of another physical person, but to something greater than her. No belly (16)
represents the lack of a reproducing body; she does not want to die and have reproduced, as this would
cause even more pain on the child s behalf. The speaker aspires to die without a cry, or a call for help.
She is fully committed to her decision to kill herself, and she will not turn

Concept 8: The private, public, and non profit sectors need to work as a team during crisis because it
is not only up to the public sector to provide the necessary services during a disaster.
Organizations over the past few decades have come to realize two things, there are a limited number
of people in the government that are able to respond to natural disasters or large scale disaster
effectively and that the government only has so many available resources to offer during a time of
crisis. Another fact is, that private sector companies and non profit entities, such as the Red Cross,
have the ability to be more prepared due to their vast network of stores and distribution centers and

The essence of novelty, however, according to Howitt and Leonard (2009) is that it is unfamiliar and
often as a consequence, it is difficult to spot, thereby giving us the discomfort of knowing that we, as

What Is A Man For All Seasons
A man for all seasons, in that short phrase one man s character and merit, are heightened to unseen
levels. The film A Man for All Seasons directed by Fred Zinnemann and written by Robert Bolt does a
phenomenal job at depicting the history of the 16th century. More specifically the quarrel between
Thomas More and King Henry VIII. The evaluation I prepared goes over movies purpose, is it biased,
historical accuracy, movie s message, actors in relation to the film, and if the movie is a by product of
its time. This movie can be looked at many different ways as the event itself was complicated.
However, these questions or topics bring out the what is most impactful in a film; my opinion of
course.

Going in one would need some background knowledge to really make sense of it all. In regards to
balance between Henry VIII and Thomas More, I strongly believe it was kept unbiased and told from
a historical standpoint. In that aspect, history does support their conclusion. The movie may have left
or altered some parts here and there, but the overall movie was accurate. From the way, they captured
how King Henry VIII would use his chief ministers to forward political gain and the anger that came
with them failing or disagreeing. The historical accuracy with the character of history was on point as
well. Characters such as Mr. Rich, his greed, and need to rise in politics, King Henry s charm, beauty,
and temper, and Thomas More s morality and need to stay true to one s self. There s much more going

Stereotypes In Shakespeare s Othello
In Shakespeare s tragedy Othello, the title character is a 16th century Moorish general of the Venetian
army who, because of the cultural and historical background of the play s setting, the playwright, and
the original intended audience, is portrayed as both well respected for his military prowess and
disparaged for his race. Similarly, because of today s American society both celebrates the richness of
latin food, music, and language which creates a sort of ignorance due to the fact that many Non
Hispanics rely on them in many ways and yet consistently robs them of their own unique cultures
when they are all assumed to be Mexican or being an illegal immigrant. In Shakespeare Othello we

the Non Hispanics in the US think towards us. Another stereotype for Hispanics is that in Mexico, the
country borders in the United States. This is considered as the biggest and top most drug producing
country. The males are specifically stereotyped as drug dealers and drug users. However, Hispanic
males are not known as dealers or drug users because even women and men are so, on every race. It is
unlucky that Hispanic men are being stereotyped on this way. This quote by the author tells us how
people think male hispanics are and are viewed by others. These two quotes tells us how many non

hispanics have been described negatively by other people, there has been a lot of contributions that
hispanics have give to the United States and a lot of positive views towards them. Yes! So, Latin

Introduction of Induction Motor and Speed Control
Induction motor is widely used in many different industries, it is a kind of machine use AC electric
power to generate magnetic force and field from the stator winding. The different of induction motor
from other kinds of motors is that induction motor need no automatic commutation, separate
excitation or self excitation from stator to rotor to changing the power. Rotor voltage is induced in the

Major methods of induction motor speed control
1) Changing the stator side supply voltage
Speed N∝ torque T, so we can use the torque changing to represent the changing in speed.
As we know: Induction motor`s torque equation
is the rotor resistor value and when the slip stays a very small value, then the s is also very small so it
can be treat as a 0 value. is rotor induced EMF and it is in direct proportion to the voltage. Torque is in
direct proportion to the s. Therefore, we know that torque T is also in direct proportion to . When we
increase(decrease)the voltage supply, the torque will increase(decrease), therefore the speed
increase(decrease). By changing the voltage supply we can achieve the speed control, this is the
simplest way to control the speed. But not widely use in the real industry. Because: change a very
large voltage but the speed only changes a little, the speed control range is too small. When the supply
voltage has a sudden changing, the flux density in the motor, a sudden changing flus density will
result a change in magnetic conditions of the motor. This result is not welcomed in the real condition
of use. So changing the supply voltage is rarely used.[5][6]
2) Changing the stator side applied frequency
The speed equation of the rotating magnetic field of induction motor is given by

An Outdated Relic From The Victorian Era Of Teaching
Are grades a state of the art method of assessing one s academic aptitude, or rather, are they an
antiquated relic from the Victorian era of teaching? I ask this because as of late, grades have been
under heavy scrutiny for corrupting students with the false pretense that good grades are more
important than actually absorbing the subject material. The argument that students would rather
receive a good grade in a course instead of actually gaining a comprehensive understanding of the
subject shouldn t be news to anyone. This has been the case for a long time, and many people would
fully acknowledge this. Alfie Kohn brings attention to this unfortunate truth in his piece From
Degrading to De Grading, where he exposes many of the existing flaws present in the grading system
today. He first does this by listing the three primary main effects of grading. The first being, that
grades tend to reduce students interest in the learning itself (Kohn). Secondly he reveals his analysis
that grades tend to reduce students preference for challenging tasks (Kohn). And lastly, Kohn
expresses his belief that grades tend to reduce the quality of students thinking (Kohn). To give Kohn
some credit, he does justify his sentiment toward grades by including somewhat brief explanations
annotated to each of the aforementioned effects provided by him. The issue with his argument isn t
necessarily that it is factually incorrect, but that the current method of grading is far more effective

Themes of Hopelessness in Herman Melville’s Bartleby the...
We can never be one hundred percent certain of the validity of our literary analyses. This is especially
the case with Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener . Critics have been trying for decades to make
sense of the text and most will describe it as inscrutable . I don t claim to know better than the critics,
but instead offer my own interpretation of the work. Based on my observations and analysis, Melville
s use of many elements in his story first and foremost the character of Bartleby, but also the dead
letters, the many walls of Wall Street, and the state of Wall Street itself works well to develop a sense
of hopelessness, whether intentional or not, in the story as well as the narrator and consequently the
reader. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He [the lawyer] refers to Turkey as a most valuable person to me (p. 22) and to Nippers as a very
useful man to me (p. 25). Even Ginger Nut, the office boy, is useful in that his duty as cake and apple
purveyor (p. 27) pacifies Turkey and Nippers and thus keeps them working. In other words, the lawyer
considers his employees useful insofar as he can exploit them and make money from their labor.
(Wilson)
Bartleby, however, who prefers not to do any work after a short period of working in the office,
greatly discourages the lawyer because he does not prove useful in any way.
As a further character development, Melville encourages the reader to consider Bartleby himself as a
type of dead letter (Weinstock). Bartleby doesn t serve the purpose he intended to when he refuses to
do work, in the same way the dead letters (1111) that Bartleby used to work with did not serve the
function they were intended for. It is important to note that in a dead letter office, the letters are
undeliverable and so they have their content destroyed. Bartleby would prefer not to do anything and
thus wasted away to death a drawn out process of content destruction. In this case the content refers to
Bartleby s soul (1098) and hope, and eventually, self.
We can expect that the lawyer s prolonged exposure to an attitude such

Effects Of Exercise On Brain Health
There is ample evidence to demonstrate that through the normal ageing process alterations to the brain
in structure and function are directly related to cognitive changes (Glisky, 2007). With an increasing
ageing population strategies for prevention of disease and age related cognitive decline are necessary
to improve quality of life and reduce the associated healthcare costs (Australian Government
Productivity Commission [AGPC], 2013). Physical exercise is known to be crucial in maintaining
physiological health; it can also be used as a means of neuroprotection and assist in modifiable risk
factors for improved brain health and subsequent cognitive function. This review will critically
analyse current research into the effects of exercise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smith et al. (2013) took a less studied approach to improving cognitive decline by testing the effects
of aerobic exercise on adults (60 88 years old) already suffering from cognitive impairment. After 12
weeks of moderate exercise there was an improvement of memory and neural efficiency across all
subjects.
As discussed at the Alzheimer s Association International Conference [AAIC] (2012), elderly people
who had reduced cadence, velocity and stride length of just 1.7cm were seen to have greater declines
in cognition, memory and executive function. These gait related restrictions were associated with an
overall smaller brain volume (Bridenbaugh Kressig, 2013). Having reduced mobility results in an
accelerated cognitive decline as being in the same environment regularly provides little stimulus to
keep the mind active. Gait restriction can be improved through physical therapy and although it may
not increase lost brain volume it can assist in reducing the effects of further decline (Patla, 1991).
Due to the inconsistency between studies there is no definitive exercise dosage or type that can aid in
protection against dementia. However, from the evidence provided it suggests that higher levels of
exercise can be used as a neuroprotective mechanism to prevent the onset of

John Simpsons Vision For The Museum Essay
Today s visit to the museum was exciting! Having the opportunity to see John Simpsons vision for the
museum in its current state, and knowing we could influence the design is a golden opportunity from
my perspective. What this signaled was Amsterdam, when talking of flow and influence of language
and historical content. I knew when I first saw the Seuss advertisement, I had my eye on a few of
them. However, as a dyslexic person writing, and applying for all three, last minute I wrote for
research on his life. For me the biggest connection was museum flow, and space usage in different

into this project.
Spending time in meetings, hearing the perspective desired changes the city, is making, the aim is to

Rebellion In Dostoevsky s Harry Potter
A central strength which fantasy offers in Harry Potter is its uses as a plot device, the way in which
this engages the reader, and the escape which the world of fantasy offers to Harry himself. The reader
follows Harry s perspective, thrust into a world of magic they know nothing about. This fantasy world
offers Harry what he has dreamed of his whole life, and is simultaneously a dream come true for many
child readers, with his instant acquisition of fame, food, friends, fortune, mystery, excitement, an
opportunity for rebellion, and an epic quest to complete. There is certainly a fantastical element to
Harry s complete reversal of fortune, for example, the way Harry is treated by the Dursleys, with

Another way the fantasy world engages the reader is through the quest which Harry and his friends,
Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger embark on. Rebellion is a common theme in children s books,
and the plot of the narrative is moved forward by Harry and his friends defiance of the rules, as they
explore explicitly forbidden areas. By doing this, Harry and his friends conquer the evil Lord
Voldemort (for now) by stopping him from acquiring the philosopher s stone, and in the end they are
rewarded with house points for their defiance of the rules. Through this fantasy quest and the way the
characters defy rules and authority figures, Rowling encourages children to take agency, and she is
quoted as saying, in relation to the Harry Potter books, You should question authority and you should
not assume that the establishment or the press tells you all of the truth (p. 751). Harry Potter and the
Philosopher s Stone is strongly influenced by its post modern context, and this theme of agency, of
questioning authority figures and established institutions is an essential theme throughout the

Mike Tyson was about to have his boxing license taken away. My teeth were the ones at fault, he was

His lawyers had said that the reason for all this was because of his taste for victory, and that he felt the

Argumentative Essay On Sex Education
Transitioning from childhood to teenage years is already awkward enough for most girls, but the talk
is unbearable for some. Little do these young minds know that the scariest part of sex education is the
lack of accurate and detailed information. A shortage of information on their own bodies can have
grim effects on their sexuality later in life. Inadequate sex education for adolescents has consequently
set the foundation for an orgasm inequality, favoring men over women. The nation s incomplete
standards for sex education has consistently failed young women in teaching them enough about their
own anatomies. An interview has been conducted with an 18 year old cisgendered woman named
Carly. The purpose was to study how well an average young woman knows herself and her own
sexuality. Carly completed sex education in the state of Wisconsin. Currently in the united states there
are no federal laws that dictate a uniform sexual health education curriculum (Koepsel 2016). How,
and what is taught is left to each of the individual states (Koepsel 2016). As a result, a range of
information is being taught to Americans, but it may or not be favorable to the student s well being. It
seems rather controversial that local governments, which students can rarely participate in, choose the
fate of their sexual health education. It is an unfair system that ultimately allows only those who have
had extensive and medically accurate education a future in sexual well being. Carly explained

The Roman Empire And The Byzantine Empire
The Byzantine Empire was the successor of the Roman Empire during the time period of Late
Antiquity and the Medieval Ages. The Byzantine Empire was also called Eastern Roman Empire, so
this proves that it was a continuation of the Roman Empire, but they were speaking Greek, and did not
forget about the Greek tradition. According to Browning, the physicians during the Byzantine Empire
like Oreibasios, who was the Emperor Julian s physician and friend , use the scientific and old version
of Greek medicine to treat patients, and this means that medical doctors did not forget about their
Greek roots. Starting from Basil I, a Byzantine Emperor between 867 and 886, the Byzantine Empire
entered its Golden Age, and according to Browning, Basil I established a very good Empire time that
would last two centuries with his precious energy and rules. After decades, this Golden Age began to
give place to decline because, according to Browning, within the eleventh century, the attitudes and
the thoughts that were primitive, spoilt, and lack of imagination of the future of the Empire began to
become strong among the aristocratic society, and this began to harm Byzantine s economic and
military power. This kind of harm to the centralized government of the Byzantine Empire did not
show itself as a poisonous snake till 1060 because the Empire could not function itself as usual.
Therefore, the enemies of the Byzantine Empire took an advantage of this weakness. Hungarians took

There Have Been Numerous Historical Evidences Shown About
There have been numerous historical evidences shown about the Pre colonial history of Black
kingdoms in Africa. Many historians have concluded that the people that inhabit Pre colonial Africa
were anthropologically Black. However, there has been so much controversy and misconception about
the ethnicity of ancient Egyptians by many historians. The controversy is due to many ethnocentric
historians and anthropologists attributing the development of the Egyptian civilization to the
Caucasian people. Dr. Herbert J. Foster, historian from Staten Island Community College, argues that
significant amounts of people inhabiting Egypt were black; they were major contributors to the
development of the Egyptian civilization. Dr. Herbert utilizes ... Show more content on

There were many quotes throughout the article by anthropologists that echoed the sentiment that it
was the Hamites who settled and helped develop Egypt. One notable anthropologist that Dr. Herbert
wrote about was C. G. Seligman. Seligman solidified the new Hamitic Hypothesis by praising the
success and accomplishments that happened in Africa and Egypt to the Caucasian Hamites. Dr.
Herbert then noted that Seligman s theory, still persists in the writings of numerous anthropologists
and historians. Dr. Herbert was able to use evidences from different fields such as anthropology and
history to understand the controversy surrounding the Hamitic Hypothesis.
Dr. Herbert uses scientific, archeological and historical evidences to argue that the ethnicity of
Egyptians was black; and that they were major contributors to the Egyptian civilization. Historical
evidence was used to support the argument that there were blacks contributing to the expansion of
Egypt. Dr. Herbert quoted an author of African History, Basil Davidson, who argued, that the ancient
ancestors of present day Africa were an important and perhaps dominant element among the people
who fathered early Egyptian civilization. Herbert used scientific studies to help support the claim that
Davidson made. Dr. Herbert first talked about the study done in 1905 by Randall McIver and
Thompson who surveyed ancient Egyptian skulls. Randall McIver and Thompson

Ayahuasca Substance Abuse
Summary
In 2011, a preliminary though not well conducted study of ayahuasca assisted treatment for drug abuse
was conducted in Canada. As part of the study, twelve subjects with addictions to alcohol, cocaine,
tobacco, cannabis, opiates, and other drugs participated in several days of group therapy and two
ayahuasca treatments. Data concerning psychological and behavioral conditions were collected
through a series of surveys both before and after the completion of the study. The categories being
assessed were comprised of mindfulness, empowerment, emotional regulation, hopefulness, and
quality of life. The measures were then calculated by using ANOVA, or analysis of variance, which is

First described academically during the 1950s by Harvard ethnobotanist Richard Schultes, ayahuasca
is derived from the Brazilian Banisteriopsis caapi and Psychotria viridis. The resulting brew is highly
concentrated with a compound known as dimethyltryptamine (DMT) which causes vivid, dream like
hallucinations (3). DMT is found endogenously in many organisms, with small amounts present in the
pineal gland of mice and perhaps that of humans. However, because of a family of enzymes in the
liver known as monoamine oxidases, ingestion of DMT containing substances has no effect on
humans as the compound is quickly broken down. It is for this reason that the ayahuasca brew must be
made with the specific species of plants. By boiling the plants for several hours, alkaloids which act as
monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are released. This inhibits the enzymes from breaking down
the DMT and allows the substance to cross the blood brain barrier

A Scientifically Literate Population Is The Essential...
Earlier this year, the Washington State Department of Health reported the first confirmed measles
related death in the United States since 2003. Although the woman herself had been vaccinated for
measles, she was infected by another patient with measles while she was taking immune system
suppressants. This event is a symbol of the foreboding issue currently facing our society that of
scientific illiteracy. We live in a highly interconnected society, and each person is not only responsible
for himself, he is also responsible for the lives of everyone else in his community. In our dynamic
world where new ideas are constantly being tested, new technologies are constantly being invented,
and new developments are constantly being discovered, we as a society must also adapt our level of
scientific understanding, so that we are able to make informed decisions about our lives. A
scientifically literate population is the essential cornerstone of an innovative culture. To be
scientifically literate means to be able to ask questions, collect information, and apply what we learned
to solve problems and communicate results to the public. And as a consumer, as a professional, and as
a citizen of this democracy, we must be empowered to form educated opinions so that we are less
likely to make mistaken decisions, or misled by others. Yet various polls and surveys have shown that
scientific literacy in the United States is staggeringly low. Why is this? Part of the problem arises from

The study, in which we looked upon through our time working within Applied Theatre, is how our role

educational environment. I will discuss further how the various aspects of social and political culture
vary the way that I have conducted a workshop, and also what I would have to do if I continued my
study further.
Two of the workshops that was conducted, was in a secondary educationally school Sir William

Heathcote s approach allows the students to make as many of the decision about what the drama is
going to be about as possible. (Wagner, 1999. P.9)
In one way this approach works well for various people such as Adam Proctor, as for Adam he found
that like Dorothy Heathcote he believes in the children s ability and potential, therefore, he likes to
approach his work with a sense of improvisation, where decisions which the children make in the
lesson determine the overall outcome of the workshop, but this being to a certain extent. For example
when he was running a workshop for the first time with the second year Applied Theatre students, one
exercise we created was for them to create a story from an object, the task in creating the story
through thinking and planning was all down to them, they created their own piece of drama.
In contrast to this I found that I require a set structure to follow. This is due to me finding it difficult to
steer away from the set plan, for the reason of my own anxieties, of not knowing the outcome of a
workshop; being in the unknown. For me I find the best way in which I work individually, is
following a set structure, this enables me to be a successful facilitator, without any chaos. I want the
students to see me as their facilitator; therefore they can then follow my set instructions clearly.

United States. There are many other factors that can cause children to be obese like no exercise, eating

Whale Talk And Stand By Me Comparison
Comparison Essay
Success is a weird word. Sometimes you spend your whole life trying to find it and sometimes you re
just plain lucky enough to have it already. Success is never given, it s earned by the ones who deserve
it most. But what is it that helps strive people to the end? Does the end even matter? In life, people are
sent on journeys to not only finish, but to experience every little thing along the path. In other words,
life is about the journey and not the destination. In both Whale Talk and Stand by Me, characters find
meaning for their lives by enduring the hard times, pouring themselves into relationships with other
people and staying true to their own systems of belief.
In both Whale Talk and Stand by Me, young misfits find a group of people that make them feel safe

who adopted him. T.J finds his family within the swim team he takes part in. Chris Coughlin, Andy

Examining Low Young Voter Turnout
One of our most, and many would argue, the most valuable rights as citizens of a democracy is our
right to vote. It gives us a voice in the direction our elected representatives steer our country.
Unfortunately, historically young voters are underrepresented due to their low voting turnout. This
came as a shock to me being a young voter myself. Growing up in California I was excited about
getting the chance to vote, to have a voice as it were. However, this is clearly not the case for all
potential young voters.
The Problem Young voter turnout has historically been disproportionately lower than all other voting
groups. In California alone, as indicated in the California Civic Engagement Project, conducted by UC
Davis during the 2012 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With those that attended college being twice as more likely to vote (Center for Information and

Political Polarization There s a great deal of debate on whether the issue of increased political
polarization of our elected representatives has had a positive or negative effect on voter turnout, there
s however little debate on whether the political process has become more polarized. While this is an
issue for voter turnout of all ages, I m in a unique position to speak on it as a young voter. As I
mentioned earlier growing up I was excited at the chance to help shape public policy with my vote.
However, as the years went on the increasingly polarized atmosphere of my representatives has had a
draining effect on me. I don t tune in to the TV broadcasts or read the newspaper with the same gusto
anymore. The constant name calling and gridlock has had a profoundly negative effect on my
enthusiasm to partake civic activity. Being a young voter I have dwelt on this quite a bit, and come to
the conclusion that this has discouraged me from taking part in the political process. Apparently that s
a common symptom of increased political polarization on the electorate, as noted by several political
scientists. For example, in a paper published in American Journal of Political Science Dr. John
Rogowski notes that My main finding is that, rather than stimulate political

How Does Longfellow s Use Of Figurative Language
Figurative language is a literary device employed by numerous writers which helps develop style. For
instance, in the poem Not My Bones by Marilyn Nelson, the author uses the figurative language such
as metaphors to describe a slaves belief on who you really are. Likewise, in his narrative poem Paul
Revere s Ride Henry Wadsworth Longfellow utilizes various types of figurative language to create
and enhance his style.
Early on in the poem Longfellow establishes his style through the use of personification. To illustrate,
when the speaker is describing a British owned warship docked on the Charlestown shore awaiting a
battle in the revolutionary war he/she tells the reader, each mast and spar/across the moon like a prison

bar using the word like. Comparing components of the British war ships to a prison reminds the reader
that a war for the american colonist is inescapable just like prison is inescapable for an inmate.

the turret. The woman s corpse lay still in the gutter. This quote gives the reader a visualization of the

that due to war the sniper had to kill the woman and the man, and did so without having a feeling of

differences between the cars, but not many know the specifics. The Montreal Grand Prix website

setting, the plot will not be as exciting to the reader. The setting needs to have dark elements,
horrifying twists, and turns to drive the story. In The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson,
Jackson exemplifies how a setting should be in a gothic novel. She uses modern psychology and old
ghost stories. These elements entice the reader to ponder what is real and what is not.
When you combine the nature of the characters in Hill House and then compare them to the events
taking place in the house (blood on the clothes, blood on/in the walls, mysterious voices calling out
and children laughing) , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader experiences this emotion while reading. Hill House gives off these feelings because of all
the deaths that have happened there. Many young people died in Hill House. The tomb in Hill House
has a cold spot. If you put your hand there for a second it will become numb. This was shown in the
story when Luke tested the cold spot with his hand, Luke, inside the nursery doorway, could hold one
end of the tape until his hand came into the cold spot, and then his fingers lost strength and relaxed
helplessly. Another part that adds to the uneasiness of the house is Hugh Crain. No one knows what
happened to him. The book says he turns into a recluse. Reading into this detail, does that mean he
turns into the house and becomes a part of the house? Jackson doesn t tell the reader that. Hugh Crain
s tragedy definitely adds to the emptiness and sadness of the house. The same can be said when
Eleanor meets her end. As a character of the story her life was empty and meaningless. She was
always told what to do and what not to do. Eleanor was an innocent. So naturally when she died it was
tragic and sad. She also seemed to become a part of Hill

A Report On The Night
Everyone sleeps at certain times. Chicago s imminent seeming glow from the lights is starting to
flicker and dim. Windows turn off, second by second. The window cleaning personnel raise
themselves up on their scaffolds to start their nightly work; cleaning each window of Willis Tower,
home of the Skydeck. An ABC News helicopter flies by with four passengers aboard. I am one of
those passengers a news reporter, reporting a standstill traffic jam. To imagine myself as just a maraca
shaped dot in the sky is above my, so to say, Imagination limit. Three, two, one, on air. The televisor
hands me the script and works with his filming duties. . . My alarm surprises me. I groan and ease
myself up from my uncovered mattress on my top ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was excited I got my internet back after two weeks of doing enormous amounts of work on the
laptops at school; and they were not easy to type on. It was not much of a surprise that I would think
of that first. I do play my games every day, but I got cold, so I went to get some hot cocoa from the
kitchen. I walked to the kitchen, and saw a bowl with buttered popcorn filled halfway to the top. I
picked up a hot chocolate mix packet labeled Swiss Miss Open here. I ripped it open and some coffee
brown dust flew out of the top. I grabbed a mug and poured all of the contents in the mug. I set the
microwave for one minute and thirty seconds. I didn t think even how much time I set the microwave
to because I dashed from my laptop. Once I logged onto my computer, I smelled a heavy stench of
smoke, and it was not by a cigarette being lit. I rushed back to the kitchen and there was the
microwave, but I could not see it. Flames engulfed the microwave in mere seconds. I tried to cease the
flame with water but it didn t touch it. Time froze at that single moment, and so did my mind. I couldn
t think, I couldn t talk, I couldn t even move. The water fell beside the fire, not even inching toward it.
I woke up my mom as soon as possible and tried to get out everyone else but I was trapped. I was
cornered and my only way is no possible way. I was staring off into space. The constant, obnoxious
beeping of the microwave rung in my head like a

Biodiversity In The Arctic Region
The Effect of Global Warming on Biodiversity in the Arctic Region As the impact of global warming
on the environment exponentially expands, issues such as increasing air and water temperatures, rising
water levels in coastal regions, growing severity of storms, polar ice melting, increased acidity in
oceans, and altered environments and habitats also worsen at an alarming rate (Denshak). These are
not unknown concepts, but what is less known is the effect that global warming has on the Arctic
region and its biodiversity. This specific issue primarily deals with climate change in the scheme of
melting polar ice shelves, rising temperatures, and increased acidity of the world s oceans. Since the
Arctic region has a very different, more fragile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The animal populations are main source of nutrition for the human communities living in the region,
but harvesting has been regulated and managed to prevent depletion of the natural stores of fish,
crustaceans, and mammals in the Arctic waters (Arctic Biodiversity Assessment). Because the health
of the Arctic had an impact on all of Earth, it is important that we work towards preventing, or at least
delaying the effects of climate change on the region. Many corporations, governments, and
international organizations have already worked to reverse the issue that the Arctic faces with concern
to its biodiversity. For example, in the past year, the Coca Cola Journey foundation has raised over
Two million dollars with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to help manage the Arctic ice shelves and
preserve the habitats home to polar bears and many other organisms. Their goal is to reverse the path
of extinction that polar bears are currently on, citing the U.S. Geographical Survey that state that two
thirds of polar bears are predicted to disappear in just thirty four years. Additionally, you can see the
international concern for Arctic biodiversity through Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs)
that aim to conserve individual species, protect migration routes and habitats, protect ecosystems, and
promote a

Corporate Social Responsibility of Levi Strauss
It is the nature of business to expand its business and increase sales. What is ethical? In my opinion
ethics are defined by what is right. Some ethics are defined by law but many must come from within
the person or business. One must realize that sometimes what might be considered unethical by law or
ethical by law might need to be revisited and thought about if the law or lack of it produces unethical
outcomes.
In doing business so many times an organization must think globally. This might be done to increase
sales and/or profits or to lower labor costs. In either case problems can occur due to ethical and
cultural barriers in global expansion. In this paper I will attempt to show some of what a global
organization and a cultural issue that affects their interactions outside the United States by identifying
and comparing some of these cultural differences.
One company that faces these cultural issues daily is Levi Strauss and Company. Levi Strauss and
Company is a large American company founder in 1853 and is well known for its denim line.
Currently Levi Strauss and Co. has operations in over 110 countries with over half of its corporate
revenues coming from outside the United States. In American history we have all heard complaints of
companies in the garment industry hiring underage employees outside the United States and poor
working conditions. Levi Strauss and Company has not been left out of these accusations.
In the United States child labor is considered

Another City Short Story
More Than Los Angeles
In the novel Another City many of the authors have their own opinions of how Los Angeles is or how
it shapes them as a person. Other stories are very short and tell stories of how Los Angeles isn t as
great a place even though we may have people fooled to think so. In the short story Interesting Times
the author Judith Lewis tells us about how she adjusted to living in Los Angeles and how she views
the city before and after lives there. Whether she felt she didn t belong, people were too distracted
with their own lives, or people were united by tragic events, Los Angeles became her home and a
place she lived in interesting times. These themes come up often in the story and are the base of how
Lewis feels about Los Angeles as she settles in to the new city.
Lewis starts the story talking about how she lives in Hollywood and is surrounded by famous actors,
actresses, and the Bat Caves of Griffith Park which are called that not for the amount of bats that are
there but because it was the sight of the Adam West s tv show Batman s batcave. She talks about how
she walks through the caves so often that people have mistaken her for famous actresses in the past.
When she would go for walks for a long time a woman named Carol was so distracted by her life she
would call the author Jessica. Confusing her for Jessica Harper, a famous actress. Lewis didn t grow
up in Los Angeles, coming from Minnesota for work she was reluctant to come and probably never
expected her life would be quite like this, walking through Hollywood being confused for someone
famous which she isn t. She talks about how she feels the life of Los Angeles isn t for her but over
time she identifies with the people in her area. She didn t originally belong there but goes on to say, I
have grown into this scene; absorbed its perverse aesthetic by osmosis, along with its polluted air,
impossible beauty standards, and bad driving habits. Cell phone caught between shoulder and chin I
drive wildly in the passing lane, dashing to appointments, always late, huffing about traffic as I breeze
through the door. I jog, eat granola for breakfast, guzzle Chardonnay, practice yoga, attend premieres.
I am a walking cliché. (pg. 5 6). The

Student Language Assessment Essay
Guild (2001) says We... are products of external influences, especially within our immediate family,
extended community, and culture. This is important, as an educator, to keep in mind when teaching
ELL students. This is important to keep in mind when teaching children from other cultures, also. The
information I gained from reading and watching the learning resources in weeks two and three were
very valuable in observing the student I chose to observe.
The student I chose, J, is in a team member s class. He caught my attention at my school s academic
fair. He is Mexican and was born in Mexico. He moved to Winnsboro, South Carolina when he was
five years old. He is now nine years old and in third grade. He, his siblings, and his ... Show more

J coming from an uneducated, unprivileged background he has a sense of doing well in school will
give him an excellent chance at having a better life. Having this limited about of knowledge of his
culture I think the best way to get to know any student and their culture better is to talk and listen. You
can learn a lot from listening.
Before delving into my observations on J I want to first describe what his second language acquisition
stage is. Based on what I observed from his communication in class and his writing I have concluded
that he is stage three: the speech emergence stage. He can communicate in simple sentences, but when
he communicates in longer and complex sentences he makes grammatical mistakes. Although he has
been in the country for four years I feel his language development has been hindered by being pushed
along in school, never getting enough one on one instruction, and not enough ELL support in terms of
a teacher pulling him aside to help more often. In a more intense supportive environment I think he
would already be in stage four. Reed (2003) informs readers that having an understanding of ELL
students will dramatically improve the ability to understand and teach an ELL student more.
As I stated before J takes his education very important. His teacher told me that he almost always cries
on a daily basis when he feels like he did not do a good job. Although she said that I did not observe
that while I was in there. He

How Does Lava Temperature Affects Viscosity And Velocity
Lava temperature impacts viscosity and velocity because a high lava temperature means that there is
lower viscosity and that there is a higher velocity. For Room group A in C period, the lava flowed not
too fast and not too slow. The average velocity for this group was 4.23 cm/second. The length of the
pancakes was either 12 cm or 13 cm and the time that it took to travel throughout the pancake ranged
from 2.09 seconds to 4.46 seconds. The syrup flowed faster than the Cold group s syrup did, while it
flowed slower than the Hot group s syrup did. Room A group s data was pretty good data and there
was not many mistakes that led to an outlier. The only way that the data was slightly influenced was
that someone dumped the cup and it spilled all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This happens because the room temperature syrup has more energy, causing the molecules to spread
apart. For the team hot average, the average was 7.15 cm/second. The range of data for averages was
1.7 cm/second to 15.79 cm/second. There are clearly some big differences between the former and the
latter. This happened because they are outliers. That data may have been messed up because the syrup
was taken off of the crockpot too early, cooling down the syrup making it have more viscosity and a
smaller velocity. Another way that these trials could have been messed up is if someone threw the
syrup at the plate when they were pouring it, and the speed of the pouring caused a very high velocity.
The hot syrup flowed faster than room and cold syrup because it had a lower viscosity. The hot syrup
had a lower viscosity because it had the highest energy out of the three temperatures, causing the
molecules to be more spread out. Gas, water, and silica also have an effect on the viscosity of lava.
Water makes the viscosity of the lava lower because it thins out the lava. Gas makes the pressure
increase in high viscosity magmas, while when the gas escapes the viscosity

Raymond s Innocence In The Book After The First Death
Many characters innocence were stolen in the book After The First Death . Raymond s innocence was
stolen because he had to eat the candy that the hijackers had. Raymond put the candy in his mouth,
chewed, the tears rolling down his cheeks, looking at neither Artkin or Kate. Kate s innocence was
stolen because she was a child herself and she had to take care of all the children. Take care of them.
See to their needs. This will convince you that we mean no harm. Ben s innocence was taken from
him because his father used him as a messenger to the terrorists. That you must deliver the stone to the
hijackers as proof of Sedeete s capture, to prove to the hijackers that their leader has been captured, the
entire episode now pointless, that they were in no position to dictate terms but faced complete
surrender at the most, negotiations at the least. Innocence is a very important characteristic that can

Racial Discrimination In Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
In the story Of Mice and Men, symbolizes many things such as racial discrimination. Crooks has a
hard time fitting in with the crowd because of his race. And having hopes and dreams nearly crushed
by reality. He might represent the racial equality in the past where the President didn t have a speech
about treating others with respect. Because he wanted to describe the inequality of races while keeping
the subtlety. As said by Crooks, I can t play cards because I m black, (Steinbeck 68). That might be the
reason why he s extremely lonely amongst the rest. Crooks has tried so much to make friends with
people, He lost all of his trust. He s gotten his name from his severed spine being kicked or getting hit
on numerous times while caring for the stables as a slave. Curley on the other hand is a egotistical one
of a kind who likes to pick on people he thinks are weak compared to his strengths. I wouldn t pick a
fight with him, Because it s going to get hot! Although he s the son of the ranch boss, That doesn t
change anything at all. The author s syntax is a unique way of writing because it gives off a pioneer
and cowboy ish feel to the story with it s complex grouping of words. It is effective towards the
characters and/or the reader because of how hard it is to speak in a certain way without messing it up.
Though the people back then could fluently enunciate without error, Our minds mentally fix it and we
read it out loud based on how we see it visually. It s supposed to

Benefits And Disadvantages Of Using Social Media
Analyse the benefits and disadvantages of using social media to market to the various different
stakeholder groups Social media tools are disruptive technologies that have radically altered the way
people view and use communication. This transformation is occurring in many ways and in many
places that influence lifestyle and social interaction. (Grover and Stewart, 2010, p.7). Grover and
Stewart (2010) express that social media is a technology that has changed the way people interact and
communicate in our day to day lives. Looking at Grover and Stewarts theory, it suggests alteration in
the way we converse as a society, having an influence on many topics, one of which being business
engagement. A stakeholder is someone who can have an effect on a company or has been affected by a
corporation in some way (Boutilier, 2011). For the purpose of this report, we will be analysing the
pros and cons of marketing to various stakeholder groups using social media. In addition, I have been
selected to take upon an important role as the marketing manager for Virgin Media. I will be looking
at the ways in which social media has helped to market this service, and what potential problems
could have been or still can be avoided, using real life examples. Virgin is one of the world s most
recognised and respected brands, which is a leading international investment group (Virgin, n.d.). The
company was created by Sir Richard Branson in 1970, the Virgin group has gone on to progress

  • 3. Stereotypes In The Woman Warrior The woman warrior by Maxine Kingston elaborates readers what it was like to grow up as a female Chinese American. Kingston came to America as a little girl with her family. Even though she was in America, she still had to deal with old Chinese traditions. Traditions where women were seen as useless and as slaves. But, Kingston refused to believe that women are worthless. She states, When one of my parents or the emigrant villagers said, feeding girls is feeding cowbirds , I would thrash on the floor and scream so hard (pg. 46). Therefore, Kingston fabricates her own versions of stories where she portrays herself as a warrior who is a hero rather than a useless individual. I believe Kingston tells stories to obliterate social perceptions of the woman in the traditional Chinese society. Based on Chinese traditions that Kingston cultured from her parents and the stories that her mother told, Kingston was under the perception that Chinese girls must only become a good wife and bare children. However, I believe Kingston refused the gender role defined by the traditional Chinese culture and used fictionalized stories to showcase that women are capable of doing masculine things and at the same time can be a great mother or a wife. ... • 4. A Brief Note On Alternative And Specialized Assignment Podiatrist/Chiropodist Alternative and Specialized Assignment History Your feet are vital functions for movement and balance. They are the stems of your body that inform and coincide with your other body parts for your body to move. The record of feet goes thousands of years back to 1500 2400 B.C, where the ancient Egyptians demonstrated the significant acknowledgement of the feet and hands. The limbs were notably carved on the entrance of Ankamahor s tomb. This profession was ostracized by the healthcare field due to the credibility and respect that was lacking. It wasn t until later that Podiatry made its way to the surface of health society and evolved the line of work. Dr. Stanley R. Kalish and Dr. Harold D. Schoenhaus, played a fundamental role in the podiatry evolvement, with their constant contributions to the podiatry pursuit, their education and philosophy has extended itself to students and other physicians. • 5. The Starry Night By Anne Sexton The Starry Night Poem Analysis The Starry Night, written by Anne Sexton, makes me think about raging fires, destruction, death, hell, and demons. The word choice in the poem is very colorful, yet overwhelming and dark, which perplexes, yet astonishes the reader. This poem feels very depressing, but on the contrary, active and raging with life. The sky is alive and intense, yet the town is silent and solemn. The idea of a monstrous death is welcoming and yearned for by the speaker. The poem feels like it is about the speaker s strong desire for a gruesome death; it feels very surreal. The black haired tree, as depicted in Vincent Van Gogh s Starry Night (the painting this poem was inspired by), is compared to a drowned woman in the hot sky (3). Sexton then goes on to say that the night boils (4); the usage of words centered around heat is significant because heat can also refer to turmoil, agitation, and bustling, which from we can infer that the speaker is irritated as well as vexed. From another perspective, we can infer that Sexton is enforcing that the sky itself is hot and boiling, implying here that she wants to drown in boiling water, just like the woman that the tree looks like. ... She wishes to die without a flag, which we can infer is the symbolic white flag of surrender. This means that the speaker does not want to die at the hands of another physical person, but to something greater than her. No belly (16) represents the lack of a reproducing body; she does not want to die and have reproduced, as this would cause even more pain on the child s behalf. The speaker aspires to die without a cry, or a call for help. She is fully committed to her decision to kill herself, and she will not turn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Organizations over the past few decades have come to realize two things, there are a limited number of people in the government that are able to respond to natural disasters or large scale disaster effectively and that the government only has so many available resources to offer during a time of crisis. The film A Man for All Seasons directed by Fred Zinnemann and written by Robert Bolt does a phenomenal job at depicting the history of the 16th century. More specifically the quarrel between Thomas More and King Henry VIII. The evaluation I prepared goes over movies purpose, is it biased, historical accuracy, movie s message, actors in relation to the film, and if the movie is a by product of its time. From the way, they captured how King Henry VIII would use his chief ministers to forward political gain and the anger that came with them failing or disagreeing. When the supply voltage has a sudden changing, the flux density in the motor, a sudden changing flus density will result a change in magnetic conditions of the motor. This result is not welcomed in the real condition of use. • 12. An Outdated Relic From The Victorian Era Of Teaching Are grades a state of the art method of assessing one s academic aptitude, or rather, are they an antiquated relic from the Victorian era of teaching? I ask this because as of late, grades have been under heavy scrutiny for corrupting students with the false pretense that good grades are more important than actually absorbing the subject material. The argument that students would rather receive a good grade in a course instead of actually gaining a comprehensive understanding of the subject shouldn t be news to anyone. This has been the case for a long time, and many people would fully acknowledge this. Alfie Kohn brings attention to this unfortunate truth in his piece From Degrading to De Grading, where he exposes many of the existing flaws present in the grading system today. He first does this by listing the three primary main effects of grading. The first being, that grades tend to reduce students interest in the learning itself (Kohn). Secondly he reveals his analysis that grades tend to reduce students preference for challenging tasks (Kohn). And lastly, Kohn expresses his belief that grades tend to reduce the quality of students thinking (Kohn). To give Kohn some credit, he does justify his sentiment toward grades by including somewhat brief explanations annotated to each of the aforementioned effects provided by him. The issue with his argument isn t necessarily that it is factually incorrect, but that the current method of grading is far more effective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Themes of Hopelessness in Herman Melville’s Bartleby the... We can never be one hundred percent certain of the validity of our literary analyses. This is especially the case with Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener . Critics have been trying for decades to make sense of the text and most will describe it as inscrutable . I don t claim to know better than the critics, but instead offer my own interpretation of the work. Based on my observations and analysis, Melville s use of many elements in his story first and foremost the character of Bartleby, but also the dead letters, the many walls of Wall Street, and the state of Wall Street itself works well to develop a sense of hopelessness, whether intentional or not, in the story as well as the narrator and consequently the reader. Even Ginger Nut, the office boy, is useful in that his duty as cake and apple purveyor (p. 27) pacifies Turkey and Nippers and thus keeps them working. In other words, the lawyer considers his employees useful insofar as he can exploit them and make money from their labor. (Wilson) Bartleby, however, who prefers not to do any work after a short period of working in the office, greatly discourages the lawyer because he does not prove useful in any way. As a further character development, Melville encourages the reader to consider Bartleby himself as a type of dead letter (Weinstock). Bartleby doesn t serve the purpose he intended to when he refuses to do work, in the same way the dead letters (1111) that Bartleby used to work with did not serve the function they were intended for. It is important to note that in a dead letter office, the letters are undeliverable and so they have their content destroyed. Bartleby would prefer not to do anything and thus wasted away to death a drawn out process of content destruction. In this case the content refers to Bartleby s soul (1098) and hope, and eventually, self. We can expect that the lawyer s prolonged exposure to an attitude such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effects Of Exercise On Brain Health There is ample evidence to demonstrate that through the normal ageing process alterations to the brain in structure and function are directly related to cognitive changes (Glisky, 2007). With an increasing ageing population strategies for prevention of disease and age related cognitive decline are necessary to improve quality of life and reduce the associated healthcare costs (Australian Government Productivity Commission [AGPC], 2013). (2013) took a less studied approach to improving cognitive decline by testing the effects of aerobic exercise on adults (60 88 years old) already suffering from cognitive impairment. After 12 weeks of moderate exercise there was an improvement of memory and neural efficiency across all subjects. As discussed at the Alzheimer s Association International Conference [AAIC] (2012), elderly people who had reduced cadence, velocity and stride length of just 1.7cm were seen to have greater declines in cognition, memory and executive function. These gait related restrictions were associated with an overall smaller brain volume (Bridenbaugh Kressig, 2013). Having reduced mobility results in an accelerated cognitive decline as being in the same environment regularly provides little stimulus to keep the mind active. Gait restriction can be improved through physical therapy and although it may not increase lost brain volume it can assist in reducing the effects of further decline (Patla, 1991). Little do these young minds know that the scariest part of sex education is the lack of accurate and detailed information. A shortage of information on their own bodies can have grim effects on their sexuality later in life. Inadequate sex education for adolescents has consequently set the foundation for an orgasm inequality, favoring men over women. The nation s incomplete standards for sex education has consistently failed young women in teaching them enough about their own anatomies. An interview has been conducted with an 18 year old cisgendered woman named Carly. The purpose was to study how well an average young woman knows herself and her own sexuality. Carly completed sex education in the state of Wisconsin. Currently in the united states there are no federal laws that dictate a uniform sexual health education curriculum (Koepsel 2016). How, and what is taught is left to each of the individual states (Koepsel 2016). As a result, a range of information is being taught to Americans, but it may or not be favorable to the student s well being. It seems rather controversial that local governments, which students can rarely participate in, choose the fate of their sexual health education. It is an unfair system that ultimately allows only those who have had extensive and medically accurate education a future in sexual well being. Carly explained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Roman Empire And The Byzantine Empire The Byzantine Empire was the successor of the Roman Empire during the time period of Late Antiquity and the Medieval Ages. The Byzantine Empire was also called Eastern Roman Empire, so this proves that it was a continuation of the Roman Empire, but they were speaking Greek, and did not forget about the Greek tradition. According to Browning, the physicians during the Byzantine Empire like Oreibasios, who was the Emperor Julian s physician and friend , use the scientific and old version of Greek medicine to treat patients, and this means that medical doctors did not forget about their Greek roots. Starting from Basil I, a Byzantine Emperor between 867 and 886, the Byzantine Empire entered its Golden Age, and according to Browning, Basil I established a very good Empire time that would last two centuries with his precious energy and rules. After decades, this Golden Age began to give place to decline because, according to Browning, within the eleventh century, the attitudes and the thoughts that were primitive, spoilt, and lack of imagination of the future of the Empire began to become strong among the aristocratic society, and this began to harm Byzantine s economic and military power. This kind of harm to the centralized government of the Byzantine Empire did not show itself as a poisonous snake till 1060 because the Empire could not function itself as usual. Therefore, the enemies of the Byzantine Empire took an advantage of this weakness. Hungarians took Belgrade ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many historians have concluded that the people that inhabit Pre colonial Africa were anthropologically Black. First described academically during the 1950s by Harvard ethnobotanist Richard Schultes, ayahuasca is derived from the Brazilian Banisteriopsis caapi and Psychotria viridis. The resulting brew is highly concentrated with a compound known as dimethyltryptamine (DMT) which causes vivid, dream like hallucinations (3). DMT is found endogenously in many organisms, with small amounts present in the pineal gland of mice and perhaps that of humans. However, because of a family of enzymes in the liver known as monoamine oxidases, ingestion of DMT containing substances has no effect on humans as the compound is quickly broken down. It is for this reason that the ayahuasca brew must be made with the specific species of plants. By boiling the plants for several hours, alkaloids which act as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are released. This inhibits the enzymes from breaking down the DMT and allows the substance to cross the blood brain barrier ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Earlier this year, the Washington State Department of Health reported the first confirmed measles related death in the United States since 2003. Although the woman herself had been vaccinated for measles, she was infected by another patient with measles while she was taking immune system suppressants. This event is a symbol of the foreboding issue currently facing our society that of scientific illiteracy. We live in a highly interconnected society, and each person is not only responsible for himself, he is also responsible for the lives of everyone else in his community. In our dynamic world where new ideas are constantly being tested, new technologies are constantly being invented, and new developments are constantly being discovered, we as a society must also adapt our level of scientific understanding, so that we are able to make informed decisions about our lives. A scientifically literate population is the essential cornerstone of an innovative culture. To be scientifically literate means to be able to ask questions, collect information, and apply what we learned to solve problems and communicate results to the public. And as a consumer, as a professional, and as a citizen of this democracy, we must be empowered to form educated opinions so that we are less likely to make mistaken decisions, or misled by others. An ABC News helicopter flies by with four passengers aboard. I am one of those passengers a news reporter, reporting a standstill traffic jam. To imagine myself as just a maraca shaped dot in the sky is above my, so to say, Imagination limit. Three, two, one, on air. The televisor hands me the script and works with his filming duties. . . My alarm surprises me. I groan and ease myself up from my uncovered mattress on my top ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was excited I got my internet back after two weeks of doing enormous amounts of work on the laptops at school; and they were not easy to type on. It was not much of a surprise that I would think of that first. I do play my games every day, but I got cold, so I went to get some hot cocoa from the kitchen. I walked to the kitchen, and saw a bowl with buttered popcorn filled halfway to the top. I picked up a hot chocolate mix packet labeled Swiss Miss Open here. I ripped it open and some coffee brown dust flew out of the top. I grabbed a mug and poured all of the contents in the mug. I set the microwave for one minute and thirty seconds. I didn t think even how much time I set the microwave to because I dashed from my laptop. Once I logged onto my computer, I smelled a heavy stench of smoke, and it was not by a cigarette being lit. I rushed back to the kitchen and there was the microwave, but I could not see it. Flames engulfed the microwave in mere seconds. I tried to cease the flame with water but it didn t touch it. Time froze at that single moment, and so did my mind. I couldn t think, I couldn t talk, I couldn t even move. The water fell beside the fire, not even inching toward it. I woke up my mom as soon as possible and tried to get out everyone else but I was trapped. I was cornered and my only way is no possible way. I was staring off into space. The constant, obnoxious beeping of the microwave rung in my head like a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Biodiversity In The Arctic Region The Effect of Global Warming on Biodiversity in the Arctic Region As the impact of global warming on the environment exponentially expands, issues such as increasing air and water temperatures, rising water levels in coastal regions, growing severity of storms, polar ice melting, increased acidity in oceans, and altered environments and habitats also worsen at an alarming rate (Denshak). These are not unknown concepts, but what is less known is the effect that global warming has on the Arctic region and its biodiversity. This specific issue primarily deals with climate change in the scheme of melting polar ice shelves, rising temperatures, and increased acidity of the world s oceans. Since the Arctic region has a very different, more fragile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The animal populations are main source of nutrition for the human communities living in the region, but harvesting has been regulated and managed to prevent depletion of the natural stores of fish, crustaceans, and mammals in the Arctic waters (Arctic Biodiversity Assessment). Because the health of the Arctic had an impact on all of Earth, it is important that we work towards preventing, or at least delaying the effects of climate change on the region. Many corporations, governments, and international organizations have already worked to reverse the issue that the Arctic faces with concern to its biodiversity. For example, in the past year, the Coca Cola Journey foundation has raised over Two million dollars with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to help manage the Arctic ice shelves and preserve the habitats home to polar bears and many other organisms. Their goal is to reverse the path of extinction that polar bears are currently on, citing the U.S. Geographical Survey that state that two thirds of polar bears are predicted to disappear in just thirty four years. Additionally, you can see the international concern for Arctic biodiversity through Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) that aim to conserve individual species, protect migration routes and habitats, protect ecosystems, and promote a ... • 44. Corporate Social Responsibility of Levi Strauss It is the nature of business to expand its business and increase sales. What is ethical? In my opinion ethics are defined by what is right. Some ethics are defined by law but many must come from within the person or business. One must realize that sometimes what might be considered unethical by law or ethical by law might need to be revisited and thought about if the law or lack of it produces unethical outcomes. In doing business so many times an organization must think globally. This might be done to increase sales and/or profits or to lower labor costs. In either case problems can occur due to ethical and cultural barriers in global expansion. In this paper I will attempt to show some of what a global organization and a cultural issue that affects their interactions outside the United States by identifying and comparing some of these cultural differences. One company that faces these cultural issues daily is Levi Strauss and Company. Levi Strauss and Company is a large American company founder in 1853 and is well known for its denim line. Currently Levi Strauss and Co. has operations in over 110 countries with over half of its corporate revenues coming from outside the United States. In American history we have all heard complaints of companies in the garment industry hiring underage employees outside the United States and poor working conditions. Levi Strauss and Company has not been left out of these accusations. In the United States child labor is considered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Another City Short Story More Than Los Angeles In the novel Another City many of the authors have their own opinions of how Los Angeles is or how it shapes them as a person. Other stories are very short and tell stories of how Los Angeles isn t as great a place even though we may have people fooled to think so. In the short story Interesting Times the author Judith Lewis tells us about how she adjusted to living in Los Angeles and how she views the city before and after lives there. Whether she felt she didn t belong, people were too distracted with their own lives, or people were united by tragic events, Los Angeles became her home and a place she lived in interesting times. These themes come up often in the story and are the base of how Lewis feels about Los Angeles as she settles in to the new city. Lewis starts the story talking about how she lives in Hollywood and is surrounded by famous actors, actresses, and the Bat Caves of Griffith Park which are called that not for the amount of bats that are there but because it was the sight of the Adam West s tv show Batman s batcave. She talks about how she walks through the caves so often that people have mistaken her for famous actresses in the past. When she would go for walks for a long time a woman named Carol was so distracted by her life she would call the author Jessica. Confusing her for Jessica Harper, a famous actress. Lewis didn t grow up in Los Angeles, coming from Minnesota for work she was reluctant to come and probably never expected her life would be quite like this, walking through Hollywood being confused for someone famous which she isn t. She talks about how she feels the life of Los Angeles isn t for her but over time she identifies with the people in her area. She didn t originally belong there but goes on to say, I have grown into this scene; absorbed its perverse aesthetic by osmosis, along with its polluted air, impossible beauty standards, and bad driving habits. Cell phone caught between shoulder and chin I drive wildly in the passing lane, dashing to appointments, always late, huffing about traffic as I breeze through the door. I jog, eat granola for breakfast, guzzle Chardonnay, practice yoga, attend premieres. I am a walking cliché. (pg. 5 6). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Student Language Assessment Essay Guild (2001) says We... are products of external influences, especially within our immediate family, extended community, and culture. This is important, as an educator, to keep in mind when teaching ELL students. This is important to keep in mind when teaching children from other cultures, also. The information I gained from reading and watching the learning resources in weeks two and three were very valuable in observing the student I chose to observe. The student I chose, J, is in a team member s class. He caught my attention at my school s academic fair. He is Mexican and was born in Mexico. He moved to Winnsboro, South Carolina when he was five years old. He is now nine years old and in third grade. He, his siblings, and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... J coming from an uneducated, unprivileged background he has a sense of doing well in school will give him an excellent chance at having a better life. Having this limited about of knowledge of his culture I think the best way to get to know any student and their culture better is to talk and listen. You can learn a lot from listening. Before delving into my observations on J I want to first describe what his second language acquisition stage is. Based on what I observed from his communication in class and his writing I have concluded that he is stage three: the speech emergence stage. He can communicate in simple sentences, but when he communicates in longer and complex sentences he makes grammatical mistakes. Although he has been in the country for four years I feel his language development has been hindered by being pushed along in school, never getting enough one on one instruction, and not enough ELL support in terms of a teacher pulling him aside to help more often. In a more intense supportive environment I think he would already be in stage four. Reed (2003) informs readers that having an understanding of ELL students will dramatically improve the ability to understand and teach an ELL student more. As I stated before J takes his education very important. His teacher told me that he almost always cries on a daily basis when he feels like he did not do a good job. Although she said that I did not observe that while I was in there. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. How Does Lava Temperature Affects Viscosity And Velocity Lava temperature impacts viscosity and velocity because a high lava temperature means that there is lower viscosity and that there is a higher velocity. For Room group A in C period, the lava flowed not too fast and not too slow. The average velocity for this group was 4.23 cm/second. The length of the pancakes was either 12 cm or 13 cm and the time that it took to travel throughout the pancake ranged from 2.09 seconds to 4.46 seconds. The syrup flowed faster than the Cold group s syrup did, while it flowed slower than the Hot group s syrup did. Room A group s data was pretty good data and there was not many mistakes that led to an outlier. The only way that the data was slightly influenced was that someone dumped the cup and it spilled all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This happens because the room temperature syrup has more energy, causing the molecules to spread apart. For the team hot average, the average was 7.15 cm/second. The range of data for averages was 1.7 cm/second to 15.79 cm/second. There are clearly some big differences between the former and the latter. This happened because they are outliers. That data may have been messed up because the syrup was taken off of the crockpot too early, cooling down the syrup making it have more viscosity and a smaller velocity. Another way that these trials could have been messed up is if someone threw the syrup at the plate when they were pouring it, and the speed of the pouring caused a very high velocity. The hot syrup flowed faster than room and cold syrup because it had a lower viscosity. The hot syrup had a lower viscosity because it had the highest energy out of the three temperatures, causing the molecules to be more spread out. Gas, water, and silica also have an effect on the viscosity of lava. Water makes the viscosity of the lava lower because it thins out the lava. Gas makes the pressure increase in high viscosity magmas, while when the gas escapes the viscosity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Raymond s innocence was stolen because he had to eat the candy that the hijackers had. Raymond put the candy in his mouth, chewed, the tears rolling down his cheeks, looking at neither Artkin or Kate. Kate s innocence was stolen because she was a child herself and she had to take care of all the children. Take care of them. See to their needs. This will convince you that we mean no harm. Ben s innocence was taken from him because his father used him as a messenger to the terrorists. • 49. Racial Discrimination In Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men In the story Of Mice and Men, symbolizes many things such as racial discrimination. Crooks has a hard time fitting in with the crowd because of his race. And having hopes and dreams nearly crushed by reality. He might represent the racial equality in the past where the President didn t have a speech about treating others with respect. Because he wanted to describe the inequality of races while keeping the subtlety. As said by Crooks, I can t play cards because I m black, (Steinbeck 68). That might be the reason why he s extremely lonely amongst the rest. Crooks has tried so much to make friends with people, He lost all of his trust. He s gotten his name from his severed spine being kicked or getting hit on numerous times while caring for the stables as a slave. Curley on the other hand is a egotistical one of a kind who likes to pick on people he thinks are weak compared to his strengths. I wouldn t pick a fight with him, Because it s going to get hot! Although he s the son of the ranch boss, That doesn t change anything at all. The author s syntax is a unique way of writing because it gives off a pioneer and cowboy ish feel to the story with it s complex grouping of words. It is effective towards the characters and/or the reader because of how hard it is to speak in a certain way without messing it up. Though the people back then could fluently enunciate without error, Our minds mentally fix it and we read it out loud based on how we see it visually. It s supposed to ... • 50. Benefits And Disadvantages Of Using Social Media Analyse the benefits and disadvantages of using social media to market to the various different stakeholder groups Social media tools are disruptive technologies that have radically altered the way people view and use communication. This transformation is occurring in many ways and in many places that influence lifestyle and social interaction. (Grover and Stewart, 2010, p.7). Grover and Stewart (2010) express that social media is a technology that has changed the way people interact and communicate in our day to day lives. Looking at Grover and Stewarts theory, it suggests alteration in the way we converse as a society, having an influence on many topics, one of which being business engagement. A stakeholder is someone who can have an effect on a company or has been affected by a corporation in some way (Boutilier, 2011). For the purpose of this report, we will be analysing the pros and cons of marketing to various stakeholder groups using social media. In addition, I have been selected to take upon an important role as the marketing manager for Virgin Media. I will be looking at the ways in which social media has helped to market this service, and what potential problems could have been or still can be avoided, using real life examples. Virgin is one of the world s most recognised and respected brands, which is a leading international investment group (Virgin, n.d.). The company was created by Sir Richard Branson in 1970, the Virgin group has gone on to progress ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
