Dionysus and the Unraveling of Ideologies in The Bacchae
Dionysus and the Unraveling of Ideologies in The Bacchae
Some evaluations claim that the Dionysus appearing in The Bacchae is fairly true embodiment of the
ideals of ancient Athens. He demands only worship and proper reverence for his name, two matters of
honor that pervaded both the Greek tragedies and the pious society that viewed them. In other plays,
Oedipus consultations with Apollo and the many Choral appeals to Zeus reveal the Athenian respect
for their gods, while Electra s need for revenge and Antigone s obligation to bury Polyneices both
epitomize the themes of respect and dignity. Yet although Dionysus personifies these two motifs, his
clashes with the rest of Athenian tradition seem to make him its true adversary. ... Show more content

The Chorus first alludes to the traditional place of Athenian women with the statement, driven from
shuttle and loom, / possessed by Dionysus! (118 199), and Pentheus later employs the same motif
when threatening, I shall have them sold as slaves or put to work / at my looms (513 514). Such a
deliberate analogy amidst the clash of divine and earthly power seems to highlight the woman s
domesticated place and to call attention to her role as a pawn in the struggle between the king and the
god. Though women were almost excluded from Athenian public life and women s presence in male
company [was] surrounded by many taboos in Athenian culture, the frenzied Bacchae serve a
necessary and conspicuous function in this drama.
Women in The Bacchae not only leave their traditional place within the home but are thrust into a
promiscuous position that contrasts sharply with the usual characterization, [of] submissiveness and
modesty. The proper conduct of a Greek woman can be seen in another of Euripides dramas, Iphigenia
at Aulis, where the blameless wife is portrayed as chaste with regard to sexual matters. Certainly the
indulgences of the woodland orgies break from such secluded and silent positions of respectable
Athenian women, a challenge to traditional

The Different Shades Of Black In Brazil
Race in Brazil and United States is similar. As in the United States, in Brazil there are different shades
of black. Shades range from a light brown to dark brown. Though the shades of black are the same in
both countries, there is one major difference. In the United States if you possess any percentage of
African blood you are considered as black, but in Brazil it depends on the color of your skin. In class
we were shown twin brothers that applied to attend a public university in Brazil. One of the brothers
was accepted, but other was denied because the person reviewing their application deemed the first
brother as black and the other brother as white. If this situation occurred in the United States both
brothers would be classified as black

Essay On Symbolism Of Civilization In Lord Of The Flies
Anarchy fallen over the once peaceful land and all but one has returned to their savage ways. In
William Golding s, Lord Of The Flies, The character of Piggy is a symbol of civilization. To
commence, Piggy symbolises civilization because of his glasses as the fire is started by thm, and fire
is the first sign key to civilization . Secondly, by insisting the continuation of the rules to be enforced
on all of the island, Piggy demonstrates the ideals of civilization. Finally, Piggy idealises civilization
by wanting to advance in technology on the island. In William Golding s, Lord of The Flies, Piggy
symbolises civilization on the island, while others turn to primitive, savage ways. First and foremost,
Piggy s glasses are used to start a fire which shows a sign of civility as fire is the starting point to
civilization, with it being the way the boys will return home. During the first meeting, Ralph addresses
the group to say that a fire is needed to go in order to attract attention to the island for a passing boat.
The boys then, unsure how to start a fire, Ralph moved the lenses back and forth, this way and that, till
a glossy white image of the declining sun lay on a piece of rotten wood. Almost at once a thin trickle
of smoke rose up and made him cough (Golding 56). This shows that because of Piggy being hard of
sight, the boys were able to start a fire and have the ability to return to civilization. Furthermore, due
to Piggy s glasses creating the fire, the boys can now

Organ Transplant Essay
Organ Transplant
What is organ transplantation?
Organ transplantation is a surgical procedure that involves replacing a failed organ with a healthy
organ donated by another individual. Organ transplantation is often reserved as a last resort
therapeutic option in certain individuals with end stage organ disease. It is generally an option in
individuals that have a life expectancy of 10 or more years. Patients frequently have to undergo a
series of laboratory tests including screening for infectious diseases (eg, HIV, CMV, hepatitis B and C,
tuberculosis) and other conditions prior to being considered a transplant candidate. Individuals are
also normally tested for illicit drug use and screened for coexisting psychological disorders ... Show

Patients with end stage kidney disease are also often bridged to kidney transplantation. They typically
receive placement of a hemodialysis catheter or arteriovenous fistula in order to undergo dialysis three
times per week. Dialysis machines act like the kidneys by filtering blood and balancing fluid and
electrolyte levels.
Patients receiving lung transplantation often have respiratory failure and require continuous oxygen
therapy. Occasionally, these individuals need assisted ventilation with a breathing machine
(mechanical ventilation). Individuals with cirrhosis and end stage liver disease are normally managed
with medications to treat symptoms and complications of liver disease. They frequently receive
therapeutic paracentesis and occasionally require a TIPS procedure prior to liver transplantation.
Those with fulminant liver failure typically require urgent liver transplantation.
What laboratory tests are ordered in transplant recipients?
Commonly ordered blood tests in transplant recipients typically include a CMP (comprehensive
metabolic panel), CBC (complete blood cell count), and thyroid function studies (TSH, free T4). A
urine analysis, pregnancy test (in women of reproductive age), and urine drug screen are also normally
obtained. Urine is also normally sent for bacterial culture. Your doctor may order blood tests
evaluating for exposure to certain viruses such as human immunodeficiency

Value Of Shame In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
Carissa Larriuz
Mrs. Gordon
English 11
29 April 2018
The Value of Shame In modern culture, it is often used as a great threat and punishment to be publicly
shamed, multiple judges of the court even sentence this as a punishment. When the term is used
loosely, it appears an inappropriate alternative to jail time, yet when speculated closely, public shame
is in some ways worse than being put away in a cell. This can be argued due to the behavior spectators
display with involvement in the situation firsthand. I believe that although in some cases public shame
could be excessive and not fit the crime correctly, that public shaming is an effective and influential
form of punishment for certain crimes.
Primitively, According to the 8th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept has existed almost as long as humans themselves, right from the beginning of creation in
the story of The Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were tempted into committing the first crime known
to man and once committed they were punished publicly by being unclothed. This nakedness and
sense of vulnerability was a form of public shame because their entity was exposed and they were
provided this punishment as a reflection of self assessment. This similar idea is conveyed in Nathaniel
Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter. In the most basic sense, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale and
Hester Prynne represent the primary characters in the biblical story of the Garden of Eden, Adam and
Eve. The first scaffold scene, where Hester stands alone with her baby in her arms, in terms of
similarities between the story and the biblical one of Adam and Eve, plays on the biblical fact that Eve
is said to have eaten the fruit first and then convinced Adam to eat it afterward. The community s
belief that women are, by nature, sinful, is backed up by the interpretation of the biblical story and
therefore shown in their acts of ridicule to Hester alone. Overall, the use of public humiliation as a
way of instilling social discipline in in many ways highly effective when used suitably. It may lack
effectiveness if the offender in question

1. Why is RAID 1 not a substitute for a backup?
RAID 1 will perform the operations to write as well as read the same data, which is called is called as
mirroring. It is data is back up, it might not be safe and have a high chance of risk to protect the data.
RAID 1 is preferred for mirroring and duplexing. It has a high level of reliability and availability. It
has disk in a mirrored array which has an identical image of user data. It prefers array with parallel
access for achieving the high transfer rate and also to increase the performance for read intensive
application at high cost. If the data is being deleted unwantedly, then the data will also be removed

9. Select the files to be recover.
10. We can take the backup data, before that we need to verify the new disks are installed properly in
the system.
5. Discuss the impact of random and sequential I/Os in different RAID configurations
The sequential large I/O and random input and output reads and write are needed for an application. It
offers a good I/O response for random as it reads and poor for the small random writes. For random
writes, its good and are slow for parity overhead
Sequential I/Os offer good RAID reads and writes and also preferred even for large writes. For the
database and standard files stored on the servers, the random I/O is preferred with an equal disk time
span servicing of all of the I/O requests. For a single application, the RAID 0 with more disks are
preferred. For the multiple applications, files might be performed either on RAID 1 or RAID 10.
Finally, RAID 5 might receive some of the updates for workloads.
Using the sequential I/O we can optimize the performance of our configuration. For writing the
intensive fields its better to avoid either RAID 5 or RAID 6 rather than that we can use RAID 1 or 10.

How to Deal with Temper Tantrums
Children are the bundles of joy of each family. Having a child in a family means laughs, jokes,
playing, and a fun time with this child. No matter how bad the day was, as soon as parents see their
child smiles, they forget all about the bad day, and smile back at their child. In fact, some parents wish
to stay 24 hours with their children to enjoy their first smiles, first laughs, first words, and first steps.
For most of them, all their time with their children is enjoyable, except one particular time. When
children throw tantrums, when a child whines, cries, screams, throws him/herself on the floor, and
maybe runs out of the house with no known reason, most parents wish not to be in their child s
presence because of the screaming. Parents, in order to overcome these tantrums, deal with their
children in many different ways. However, the question remains asked over years: What s the best way
to deal with toddlers tantrums?
Some parents react to a tantrum with yelling and spanking the child to force him/her to stop crying,
but the more the parent yells, the more the child cries. In an interview with Cathy W, a mother of a
two and half boy, she states about her son, When Jove throws a tantrum, I used to respond to that by
yelling and him, and even spanking him. Then, I realized that my yelling and spanking don t solve the
problem; they make Jove cries more. In addition, in a survey between twelve parents, a mother stated
that she thought about changing her way of dealing

Doctors and nurses may also use medical terminology when discussing something in front of a patient
in order to prevent undue anxiety. Medical jargon is not at all meant to speak in pig latin in front of a
patient. It is so that there is no mistake when doctors are conveying information about a patient to each
other. For example, to a lay person, fever may mean that the person feels hot, or that the temperature is
above 100 Fahrenheit. But no one really knows and can cause a lot of confusion. With medical terms,
things are very clear, so that even a surgeon in France can read a scientific journal article and know
exactly what the author means. That way, also, medicine can be global and that the medical societies
can share ideas and innovations. Since everything in a patient s medical records must be documented,
from signs and symptoms, to the patient s medical history, to the final diagnosis and treatment, it saves
the doctors and all other medical personnel a considerable amount of time to use a universally
accepted form of medical terminology. And, even more importantly to use medical terminology,
means it will be safer when all medical professionals, from doctors and nurses, lab techs to radiology
techs, etc. use the same universal medical terminology so they don t have to try to guess what was
ordered or charted on the patient s medical records or what procedure a patient needs.

The Religious Aspects In Tim Burton s Sleepy Hollow
Devout in the storyline of Sleepy Hollow In Sleepy Hollow, the religious aspect portrayed in the
different story lines reflect the time periods they are set in. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow , published
in 1820, is set in a time where different religions were very limited. Tim Burton s film, Sleepy Hollow
was released in 1999, but is set in 1799, where religion is a bit more obscure. The Hollywood TV
show, Sleepy Hollow is set in the present time, with flashbacks to the American Revolution. The many
different versions of Sleepy Hollow are all set in different time periods, altering the religious aspect.
The religion in the original story of Sleepy Hollow transforms throughout the different variations of
the story, as the story line is being changed year after year. In Washington Irving s short story, The
Legend of Sleepy Hollow , he displays the religious aspect as being exact and very occurring,
happening over and over again. In the story, the headless horseman had been heard close to the bridge,
sitting right next to the church. But, the religious aspect is not by the church, it is indeed the bridge
that crosses the brook. This is where the headless horseman is unable to go any further. When the
horseman approaches the church bridge, he turns into skeleton and runs up over the hill and ... Show

Difference Between Sleep Drive And The Circadian Alerting...
Sleep is a complex phenomenon, best understood as the product of two intertwined biological systems
: the sleep drive and the circadian alerting system. The sleep drive is our biological need for sleep. The
sleep drive can be thought of as a tank that empties and fills throughout the course of a day, like the
gas tank in a car. When you sleep at night, the tank is filled with sleep. You awaken in the morning,
refueled and ready to drive through the day. The longer you drive through the day, the more the tank
depletes. By bedtime, the tank is on E ; it is empty and you must sleep to replenish it. The sleep drive
forces sleep, so that your tank can be refilled, and your biological sleep need is met. The circadian

Loss Of Innocence In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
Maturity and Innocence
Maturity does not necessarily come with age. It comes with consideration, manners, and one s

major issues were the state of working conditions for lower paid workers including child labour and
the lack of general sanitation practises and infrastructure. Despite the early social problems of working

During the Industrial revolution innumerable deaths were caused by the outbreak of infectious
diseases. Due to the lack of sanitation in Industrial Britain disease spread through towns and
communities very quickly. With no enforceable building regulations and even basic sanitary facilities
required, many of the poorest people were left vulnerable to these outbreaks. Buildings were often
overcrowded with up to thirty people living in one building at one time. Other problems such as
sewage leaks and pipe burst contributed to the spread of diseases. Polluted water and lack of bathing
facilities added to poor general hygiene. According to Elizabeth Isola The first outbreak of cholera,
which is often spread by water contaminated with faecal matter, was in Sunderland, England, in the
fall of 1831. In the course of the outbreak, 52,000 died. From 1837 1838. Two major long term
reforms, the Factory Act in 1833 and the Public Health act in 1848 lead to the reduction of the harsh
brutality of child labour and better means of sanitation for the general population. The Factory Act
dramatically changed conditions for young children and set age limits and working hour limitations.

Within day of the Khmer Rouge coming into power, Cambodia entered into the darkest time of its
history. Two million people were forced to evacuate from the cities to the countryside in which they
would undertake agriculture work. The Khmer Rouge s goal was to create a rural, classless society and
would force people to work in the fields for more than 12 hours a day without adequate rest or food.
The Khmer Rouge placed a ban on family relationships and began an aggressive campaign to
brainwash children and encourage them to spy on their parents. The children were taught to report
their parents to authorities and turn in their parents as enemies of the state. Following their coming

The Khmer Rouge soon claimed that only pure people were qualified to build their revolution. They

An Inferential Analysis of Hemingway s Hills Like White...
In Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants I found many layers of symbolism, and a fascinating
psychological underplay afoot between his two characters. It begins with the girl s comment about a
line of white hills seen in the distance, which she compares to white elephants. The man responds with
the comment I ve never seen one.
The symbolism of a white elephant is widely known as something very large or apparent that no one
wishes to acknowledge or speak of in American society. It is an interesting opening to a very strained
conversation concerning an apparent pregnancy, and the man s wish to terminate it. The couple s
careful avoidance of actually naming the problem, or the proposed solution, suggests the situation in

elements of the story suggested a carefree couple that traveled and drank their way across foreign

responsibilities of all. Hemingway s depiction of their conflict is in my opinion a stunning expose of a
scenario that is all too common in the human tradition, rife with assumptions and masterful in its

The Most Notorious Serial Killers Of The Late 1900 S
Hamilton Albert Fish was one of the most infamous serial killers in the late 1900 s. He claims to have
killed 6 15 children, eaten one, and molested more than 400 children over a 20 year time period. He
was later tried and convicted of his crimes and sentenced to death. There are several theories that
attempt to explain the reason behind Fish s heinous crimes. Some say that his childhood doomed him
for madness, Fish himself attributes his childhood to his unstable mental state. Others speculate that it
was his wife leaving him with six children to raise. His development played a major role in his mental
state, as it does with most people. The interesting thing about Fish, is that his tendencies and
derangement did not come forth until he was well past his younger years. Whatever the case may be,
Fish committed some of the most horrific crimes that have ever been witnessed in America, he shed

Shoe Line Named Violette By Terry Richardson
In 2008 Vashtie took a legendary step into the fashion by creating her own now well known clothing
line named Violette. With an official debut in Fall 2008, the clothing was said to be inspired by a mix
of opposite worlds: uptown and downtown, hip hop and rock, feminine and masculine, casual and
couture . Vibe listed the 31 Most Stylish People Under 31 with Vashtie coming in at the 23rd spot
among names like Kanye West, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake (Monae 2015). She was also featured
in Nylon Magazine as part of their lineup of It Girls . In this same year Vashtie interviewed Sean
Diddy Combs for Supreme Magazine, which was photographed by Terry Richardson, and was
included in the Nike Destroyer Campaign alongside notables like Dee Ricky, a twin fashion icon duo,
and Scott Campbell a New York based American artist and tattoo artist whose clients include Sting,
Robert Downey, Jr., Courtney Love, Orlando Bloom, Josh Hartnett, and Marc Jacobs. Vashtie s
approach incorporates a core sensibility that marries the cosmopolitan to an unhinged street aesthetic,
which is why Time Out New York once named her Most Stylish New Yorker. She challenges the
boundaries of gender, beauty, and individuality embodied by the aesthetic of her brand Violette.
Violette is carried in select boutiques, including Colette in Paris. The distinctive flair found in her
designs for Violette has served as a platform for partnerships with brands. In 2010, Vashtie became the

Essay about Social Attitudes and Political Views in An...
Priestley s character s usually represent social attitudes and political views (Nightingale). How does
Priestley convey his beliefs through the Inspector and Birling family? Priestley conveys his beliefs
through the Inspector and the Birling family in various ways. Priestly believed in ?social conscience?
that we are all responsible for each other. Priestly never believed in the class system as he thought it
was very unjust and divided everyone, especially poorer people, in a poorer way. Priestly?s view is
shown through the Inspector in a rather convincing way which makes the audience think like an
inspector. The inspector is the voice of reason, justice and socialism. In the play Birling believes in the

They first focus on money and care about how other perceive them. Birling also believes he is going
to get a knighthood, ?I might find my way into the next honours list. Just a knighthood, Of course?
Birling casually throws in ?just? when referring to his knighthood which shows that it is not a big
thing for a man like him to get. Birling is worried when the inspector leaves in case anybody finds out
what happened and is also worried about the knighthood. Again, this shows us he is worried about his
?social status? because he believes that life begins and ends with it ? believes his future is going to be
a comfortable world. Birling also is very uncaring and unsympathetic towards Eva. ?she?d had a lot to
say far too much so she had to go? This could indicate that Birling was sexist and makes us consider
whether he would do the same to a male worker. It also reveals Birling?s self centeredness and how
cold hearted he is. He does not care about the social classes below him and believes they have no right
to ask for anything. If this was Birling?s ?political world? he would try to impress the community to
receive the knighthood but he cant give the people who put him in that position a few shillings more.
He also does not seem to care that Eva Smith has lost her life, we learn this through the tone of his
voice and dismissive language when he speaks. He shows no interest or any sympathy. On numerous

We have drawn a false equivalency between military service and love of country without recognizing
that patriotism takes many forms and is far more complicated than a simple salute. (Ashley Nicolas, a
US veteran). People suspect that to be patriotic you have to do certain things like stand for the national
anthem at sporting events or say the pledge of allegiance at school. If people see them not do those
things then people will think that they hate our country or they are being disrespectful to the military.
But there is not just one way of showing your patriotism. Being patriotic can be perceived differently
by everyone. People should not believe in the misapprehension that if you don t stand for the national
anthem that you are being disrespectful when it is for a different reason, like standing against racism.
The concept of patriotism is a very complex one. It s not as simple as reciting a pledge or singing an
anthem. Patriotism, by simple definition, is the exaltation of national eminence, typically expressed as
power over other nations, and an emotional attachment to the nation that one originates from.
(Michael Cade Hughes). As it says in this piece of evidence, patriotism is more than just standing for
our national anthem. Being patriotic can mean many different things to different individuals. People

Essay on The Inevitabilty of the American Revolution
In the early 1620 s, the New England region was first settled by a group of adventurers. These settlers
left England, their native country, by the permission of King Charles the First. At their own expense
they transported themselves to America, and, with great risk and difficulty, settled among other
peoples native to the land. In a very surprising manner, the settlers formed new colonies in the
wilderness and these establishments grew and prospered. Before they had departed England, the
colonists terms of freedom and their relation to the mother country were fully settled; they were to
remain subject to the King and dependent on the kingdom of Great Britain. In return, they were to
receive protection. They would also enjoy the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, the differences between the colonies and Britain became quite distinguishable and
apparent. The ancestors of the early adventurers experienced a different sort of liberty and patriotism
in America than in its parent state. Suddenly though, this sense of self rule came to an abrupt end.
Britain began challenging the autonomous rule that they had indirectly granted the colonies. John
Locke argued that all individuals possessed certain natural rights such as life, liberty, and property
(Greene, 96). It was the responsibility of the government to protect those inalienable rights. When
Britain began imposing sanctions that limited the colonists natural rights, it violated its responsibility
to its dependents. Therefore, Locke s theory provided an intellectual justification for resistance to
British authority. Furthermore, Locke believed that if the government failed in preserving the natural
rights of the individual then rebellion is justified (Greene, 96). Due to the development of powerful
colonial cities, the end of salutary neglect of the colonies by Britain, and the increasing tension
between Britain and the colonies, the American Revolution was inevitable.
What was once considered a territory of rural communities and towns grew to states consisting of
large urban cities. As the society of the states became more complex and integrated, dependence upon
the parent country began to dwindle. As the states matured, their inhabitants were no

Freudian Analysis Of Zuñi Tale
Freudian Analysis of Zuñi Tale Sigmund Freud, the famed Austrian neurologist, pioneered the process
of psychoanalysis, which was intended to be a clinical method to treat neurosis and other forms of
psychopathology. However, it has also found use in analyzing stories, dreams, and myths. Freud s
method of developing latent thoughts through manifest content will be demonstrated in the following
paper, which focuses on a Zuñi folktale called The Ugly Wild Boy Who Drove the Bear Away from
South Eastern Mesa. The story is about a young boy who lives with his grandmother near a village
called K iákime. This boy is unlike others in that he is frightfully ugly ; with scars all over his body, he
suffers from distorted facial features and abnormal growths on his head. One season it rains heavily in
the Southeastern Mesa near K iákime, bringing forth fresh growth like nuts from piñon trees, fruit
from datilas, and seeds from the gray grass and redtop. However, the villagers are unable to retrieve
them because an old, frightening bear claims the territory for himself, ... Show more content on

represent desirable items to the boy and the villagers. Unfortunately, the bear prevents the village from
gathering the fruit, which drives the story s main conflict. A towering, violent animal, the bear is the
principle foe of the boy, and further affirms the notion of the simpleton hero story; in comparison, the
boy is weak, yet he can defy all odds and defeat a more powerful enemy. Moreover, his unexpected

The Lone Star State is constantly changing and growing, but most importantly learning. Before the

Party was and still is the most popular party. Although, it s very well liked Texas became a republican
party after a decade of being a democratic party. You might be wondering why Texas made this switch
after so many year. Well like everything else in this world things change as the years go by. For

that they benefited from farm subsidies. On the other side of the coin republicans were social liberal

2. Increase Your Earnest Money
I would state that 80%, or better, of all the Twin Cities house buyers I have consulted with, had no
concept what earnest money was when it arrived time to develop an offer. It s one of those things that
doesn t get spoken about a whole heck of a lot, I presume. The earnest money amount in an offer may
be a very subtle but effective piece in the multiple offer strategies challenge. Normally, earnest money
is in between 1 2% of the total purchasing price. On a $250,000 investment, earnest money would
normally be anywhere between $2,500 $ 4,000 in a standard realty market. The twin cities house
Buyer only pays the Seller the earnest money right after their offer is agreed to. If you withdraw or the
deal flops for a reason not protected by contingencies, the seller can retain that money. You won t pay
it unless your offer is accepted, but you ll tell the seller how much money you want to pay as a
component of your offer. Make sense? The strategy is to spend a little more earnest money to prove to
the homeowner just how much you enjoy their house and win the offer. On that same $250,000
purchase you may decide to pay $6,000 or $7,000 in earnest funds. Ultimately, if you do wind up
purchasing the home, that cash will either be applied to your down payment or your closing expenses;
consider it a little down payment for your new house. Often it boils down to just a few thousand
dollars to gain

Using Porter s Generic Strategies
Using Porter s generic strategies, identify examples of organisations following strategies of
differentiation, low cost or low price, and stuck in the middle or hybrid. How successful are these
strategies? An organisation bases its strategy according to its environment, and if implemented right
will be successful. Firms can target their products by a broad target, thereby covering most of the
marketplace, or they can focus on a narrow target in the market (Lynch, 2003). Michael Porter created
a generic strategies framework in order for an organisation to gain a competitive advantage in their
industry. Porter considers three generic strategies in his framework that an organisation can undertake
to gain this advantage. He believes that an organisation falls into either cost leadership (lower cost) or
differentiation and once applied in a broad or narrow scope, as discussed by Lynch, creates focus
(Figure 1). Furthermore, some organisations undertake in more that one of these strategies and if
unsuccessful is called the stuck in the middle strategy. However, if the organisation combines
elements of differentiation and elements of low cost successfully, this becomes and hybrid option and
is becoming increasingly popular amongst firms in the modern day. Figure 1 Source: Porter (1985)
The first part of Porter s framework includes the differentiation strategy across a broad target. The
generic of differentiation strategy involves creating a market position that is perceived

Analytics In Basketball
There is a field in the sport of basketball that is growing at a rapid pace. That field is called analytics.
Nearly every team in the NBA now has an analytics department. However, it is important to fully
understand analytics before applying that knowledge to the sport of basketball. Analytics is the
discovery and communication of meaningful patterns in data (Stolbunov 1). Analytics being used in
sports is simply called sports analytics. Even though analytics has its flaws, it has had a major impact
on team building in basketball using statistics like player efficiency rating and effective field goal
percentage. There are many important statistics used in analytics, but a couple are used to very great
effect. One of the most important statistics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In baseball, the book Moneyball revolutionized the way that the whole sport looked at analytics.
Basketball has a comparable situation. The book Basketball on Paper dives into the numbers behind
the sport (Haefner 10). In this book, author Dean Oliver states there are four main statistics to tell
which team will win, and also states of how much importance these statistics are. He says that a team s
shooting is forty percent of winning, turnovers are twenty five percent, rebounding is twenty percent,
and and free throws are fifteen percent (Haefner 11). One of the fathers of analytics in basketball
claims that shooting is far and away the most important statistic in the game. However, in order to
know how a team is performing in this category, the team must be compared against other teams.
Doing this is extremely easy. If comparing two teams playing each other, the opposing team s
effective field goal percentage is simply subtracted from the team being observed (Haefner 15). A
golden example of the utility of effective field goal percentage is the Golden State Warriors. This team
has broken records for three pointers made, and recently won seventy three games in a single season.
The Warriors have an advantage on almost every other team in the NBA because of the vast amount of
three pointers that they take (Dizikes 2). The ease with which effective field goal percentage can be
used and its direct correlation to which team wins the game makes it possibly the most useful statistic
in the game of basketball. However, while shooting does have a direct correlation for team
performance, it does not always have a major impact on how a single player

Essay On College Is Not Worth A Degree
College, Is it worth it?
To most people college is their goal at succeeding in life. Whether you get a scholarship or pay
yourself, college is expensive. To some it is a waste of time and money due to the fact that, graduates
are not getting their money s worth in their degree, they are burdened by student loans, and their
degree does not guarantee them a job. With that and a growing tuition rate, most people can t afford a
higher education. College is simply not worth the cost anymore.
With the rise in minimum wage nationwide, things cost a lot more. That doesn t mean you have
$42,500 to pay for college yearly,(CNBC 2015). That s a lot of money if you re not working. Even
state colleges are charging $19,000(CNBC 2015). And considering you re going to need a loan, That s
going to add to our nationwide student loan debt of 1.2Trillion,(CNBC 2015). But due to the fact that
you could earn enough money to pay back all that debt, it is still appealing to most people. The thing

takes precedence In this section, discuss the following: How would your friend s theft be dealt with
under the law in this country? In Great Britain, the Theft Act of 1968 is an Act of the Parliament of the
UK. It governs most of the general property offenses in English law. Theft is defined as a person shall
be guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the ... Show more

A decision will be drawn from here. This process is characteristic of the inquisitorial model. In a case
of theft, such as petty theft, it is considered a misdemeanor and under civil law it would involve
investigation by civil servants called procurators (Law and Society, p 57). The case would be tried
under civil law and a defendant in civil litigation is never incarcerated and never executed. A losing
defendant in a civil litigation is only expected to reimburse the plaintiff for the goods stolen. Punitive
damages are usually never awarded unless the defendant had malicious intent or gross negligence. If
damages are awarded and the defendant does not have assets or insurance, the plaintiff will receive
nothing even though the court awarded monetary damages (http://www.rbs2.com/cc.htm). Identify any
other factors for consideration. Would the fact that your friend is female impact her treatment under
the law in this country? In France, the fact that she is a female would not have an impact on the
outcome of her crime. The same process would apply whether she is female or male. In civil law, the
wrongdoer is not punished; he only suffers so much harm as is necessary to make good the wrong he
or she has done (http://www.rbs2.com/cc.htm). The criminal label you would have imposed upon you
seems to be suffering enough, for most, under civil law. When

Behavioral and neurobiological changes in C57BL/6 mice exposed to cuprizone.
C57BL/6 mice were given 0.2% cuprizone (CPZ) for 2 to 6 weeks while controls ate the same diet
without CPZ. At various time points the animals were subjected to behavioral tests and their brains
were analyzed. Mice exposed to CPZ for 2 and 3 weeks displayed more climbing behavior and lower
prepulse inhibition, suggesting an increase in central nervous system activity and impaired
sensorimotor gating. In addition, they showed lower activities of monoamine oxidase and dopamine
beta hydroxylase in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex, and had higher dopamine but lower
norepinephrine levels in the prefrontal cortex. Mice exposed to CPZ for 4 to 6 weeks had less ... Show

These studies suggest a role for oligodendrocytes and brain demyelination in the pathophysiology of
schizophrenia.
To examine the putative role of oligodendrocytes in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, animal
studies are essential. Among possible animal models, the cuprizone (CPZ) induced demyelination in
C57BL/6 mice appear to be highly promising and deserving of close scrutiny. CPZ is a copper
chelator and has been shown to specifically damage the myelin sheath and oligodendrocytes, but not
to cause lesions in other cell types in the central nervous system (CNS; Matsushima Morell, 2001;
Remington, Babcock, Zehntner, Owens, 2007; Selvaraju et al., 2004). Also, CPZ was shown to have
no effects on peripheral nerves (Komoly, 2005). Moreover, demyelinated animals on a CPZ diet
showed reduced running performance on the training wheels and this was even more pronounced
when these mice were subsequently exposed to the complex wheels (Liebetanz Merkler, 2006). More
recently, other behavioral changes have been described in C57BL/6 mice treated with CPZ. It was
reported that at 3 and 4 weeks of 0.2% CPZ treatment, the animals exhibited an increase in CNS
activity and a reduced anxiety response to a novelty challenge test. At 5 weeks of treatment
equilibrium was altered and sensorimotor reactivity was also affected (Franco Pons, Torrente,

Why I Want To Major In Nursing
Walsh University offers many different majors for people with many different likes and interests. If
students are undecided and do not know what to major in, I would say nursing is the way to go.
Nursing is a major where many doors open up for students after graduation. This major challenges you
and allows a person to grow. Wondering why students should major in nursing? Here are some reasons
that might help justify why nursing is the way to go. Nurses can choose the setting in which they
work; they have control over their shifts; finding a job in this field will be easy; a nurse gets to pick
what area they want to specialize; they get paid very well; and they get to bond with their patients. In
addition, opportunities to advance your studies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nurses can work a shift that works around their schedule. If they have children at home and want to be
with them when they return home from school, then they can work night shifts. This would also be a
good shift for people who are not morning people. Someone who would rather work when their kids
are at school or even just want to work during the day and have nights off, then they can do that too.
Nursing is a very flexible career because you can easily change your shifts around. The opportunity of
working eight hour shifts or twelve hour shifts is also available to nurses. You can work three days a
week or five, which also allows for flexibility. There are pros and cons to both working three days a
week is nice when you receive four days off then, but the hours can be ..physically and emotionally
demanding.. ( Gray 2015). Working five days a week would also be nice because you have less hours
to work, but then you do not have as many days off. The flexibility a nurse has is a very nice

Tumba High School Narrative
rowing up on the Navajo Nation is an experience, compared to residing in a city. I grew up in Tuba
city with a population of 5,000, no stop light until I was in elementary school, and played with the
neighbor children until dark. Living in a household of fourteen people in a three bedroom trailer were
at times hectic. My siblings were years older, and one of my older sisters began a family in her teen
years. The household consisted of cooking for a large family or finding a location to relax. I am
grateful to come from a large family.
Playing with the neighborhood kids or spending time out of the house was a way to refresh. The
neighborhood children and I would play bingo, kick the can, ride bikes, or just hangout without
worrying of current ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the time I felt that I am not built for this type of job. I was unable to handle or even view
human fluids. This was when I realize I m not cut for the medical field. However, for those in this
field, props to them!
After working for Hospice of the Valley, I moved back to Tuba City. I was in a relationship for 8 years
and one day it was over. This was a time to reflect of who and what I wanted to do with my life. Being
with this individual, I thought I was set for life. Marriage, children, and the whole house with white
picket fence visions. However, this was not the case. I ended up moving in back with my parents.
Imagine that, moving back to my hometown as a thirty year old single woman. I would envision the
movie, hope floats , as my life but without the child and being the hometown sweetheart.
I had rebuilt my life, it seems like what I had to do. The poverty and low employment on the Navajo
Nation is high. So, it was tough to land a job. Finally, I located a job with the County Superintendent s
executive security. Louise Yellowman, was the county superintendent at the time. Her words, her
wisdom, her support, and her encouragement got me through the tough times. Considering I felt that
my whole world had crash, and felt lost. I look up to Mrs. Yellowman, the people of the community
looked up to here and they respected her. We would go attend county board meetings, inauguration
ceremonies and this where I got to

The Muslim Brotherhood And Islamic Action Front
At the same time, for the purpose of using the democratic process as a strategy to implement Shari a
law, the Muslim Brotherhood named its political arm as the Islamic Action Front. Both the Jordanian
Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamic Action Front share a similar base of support and membership.
Separation between the two was necessary to allow the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood to maintain its
control over social services and spreading dawa a, while on the other hand provide the Islamic Action
Front with the platform to establish a political agenda. Upon submitting the application to the Minister
of the Interior, that included the Memorandums of Association, and a list of the founding member
names that fulfill the conditions specified by article Five of the Political Parties Law, in December
1992, the Islamic Action Front was officially licensed as a political party. In total, the founding
members of the Islamic Action Front consisted of three hundred forty two older, established males and
only eleven women. Demographics show a trend of disproportionality between the founding
membership and the overall population of Jordan. At the time the Islamic Action Front movement was
established, half the population of Jordan was under the age of sixteen. But, out of the three hundred
fifty three founders, 33 percent were professionals, 51 percent were civil servants, and 10 percent
were businessmen. Of these same founders, 56 percent were over 41 years old. Due to lack of

Hiroshima Bombing Blame
How would you feel if you designed a weapon that was responsible for the death of thousands of
individuals? In August, 1945 the United States dropped nuclear bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki. It is estimated that between 106,000 to 185,000 people died and approximately 110,000
others were injured. (29 9) Atomic Energy during World War II was used to develop a powerful bomb
before the Germans; in doing so, mass destruction occurred, causing guilt to its creators.
In 1934, after the death of President Hindenburg, Hitler took over to become Fuehrer and Reich
Chancellor. He abolished the title of President at that time. (25) In the years that followed, he surged
to such great power that he was obsessed with taking over the world. ... Show more content on

The heat from the blast caused fires that burned for days on end. At ground zero, the heat charred
corpses beyond recognition. The heat ceased so quickly that surfaces not in the direct line of radiation
were left unaffected. This caused visible, clearly defined shadows where objects were shielded against
the heat. Humans exposed to the heat were victims of flash burns, and had serious, third degree burns
all over their bodies. Their flesh was raw and bubbled. The sound of the explosion was heard from
fifteen miles away. Another survivor recalls, The pumpkin field in front of the house was blown clean.
Nothing was left of the whole thick crop, except that in place of the pumpkins there was a woman s
head. I looked at the face to see if I knew her. A gold tooth gleamed in the wide open mouth. A handful
of singed hair hung down from the left temple over her cheek, dangling in her mouth. Her eyelids
were drawn up, showing black holes where the eyes had been burned out...She had probably looked
square into the flash and gotten her eyeballs burned. (9) The bombs left people destitute and
hopeless.Evidence Japanese medical

Book Of Mormon
One of my favorite parts of the Book of Mormon to study has always been the many names by which
Jesus is known. There is special significance to be found within each title, and a deeper understanding
to be discovered as I connect these titles to their functions and realize how each role Jesus plays
blesses my life. King Benjamin, perhaps the most eloquent Book of Mormon character to testify of
Jesus, introduces many of these titles of Christ during his speech to the Nephites. Thanks to this
special passage in the Book of Mormon, I have been able to come to know my Savior better and to
rely on Him in all His roles. In Mosiah 3:5, one of the first names King Benjamin uses to refer to
Christ is Lord Omnipotent. On the most basic level, King ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was raised in the Church, and with that comes incredible blessings, but I also allowed it to make me
feel like I should be able to do everything right all the time, without any help from anyone. Few
people in the world would probably admit to thinking themselves prideful, but we all are in some way,
and for me pride is found in the inability to humble myself enough to ask for help. So I have resolved
time and again to face my trials alone, and time and again, I ve berated myself for being unable to win
out against them. It wasn t until high school, when I finally began to see the people of the Book of
Mormon like Nephi and King Benjamin as people who lived and breathed, people who could be my
friends, that I began to take their counsel to heart and turn to the Atonement for help. It isn t easy to
rely; it requires a leap of faith I never imagined to take all my worries and sorrows and struggles and
place them at the feet of Christ each day, trusting that He will turn them into blessings. But as I have
exercised that faith, I have come to the knowledge that I can rely on Jesus Christ in all of His roles. I
can rely on Him to by my Lord Omnipotent, to use his almighty power and knowledge to guide me to
paths better than the ones I see. I can rely on Him to be my Prince of Peace, to grant me the

  • 3. Dionysus and the Unraveling of Ideologies in The Bacchae Dionysus and the Unraveling of Ideologies in The Bacchae Some evaluations claim that the Dionysus appearing in The Bacchae is fairly true embodiment of the ideals of ancient Athens. He demands only worship and proper reverence for his name, two matters of honor that pervaded both the Greek tragedies and the pious society that viewed them. In other plays, Oedipus consultations with Apollo and the many Choral appeals to Zeus reveal the Athenian respect for their gods, while Electra s need for revenge and Antigone s obligation to bury Polyneices both epitomize the themes of respect and dignity. Yet although Dionysus personifies these two motifs, his clashes with the rest of Athenian tradition seem to make him its true adversary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Chorus first alludes to the traditional place of Athenian women with the statement, driven from shuttle and loom, / possessed by Dionysus! (118 199), and Pentheus later employs the same motif when threatening, I shall have them sold as slaves or put to work / at my looms (513 514). Such a deliberate analogy amidst the clash of divine and earthly power seems to highlight the woman s domesticated place and to call attention to her role as a pawn in the struggle between the king and the god. Though women were almost excluded from Athenian public life and women s presence in male company [was] surrounded by many taboos in Athenian culture, the frenzied Bacchae serve a necessary and conspicuous function in this drama. Women in The Bacchae not only leave their traditional place within the home but are thrust into a promiscuous position that contrasts sharply with the usual characterization, [of] submissiveness and modesty. The proper conduct of a Greek woman can be seen in another of Euripides dramas, Iphigenia at Aulis, where the blameless wife is portrayed as chaste with regard to sexual matters. Certainly the indulgences of the woodland orgies break from such secluded and silent positions of respectable Athenian women, a challenge to traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shades range from a light brown to dark brown. Though the shades of black are the same in both countries, there is one major difference. In the United States if you possess any percentage of African blood you are considered as black, but in Brazil it depends on the color of your skin. In class we were shown twin brothers that applied to attend a public university in Brazil. One of the brothers was accepted, but other was denied because the person reviewing their application deemed the first brother as black and the other brother as white. If this situation occurred in the United States both brothers would be classified as black ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay On Symbolism Of Civilization In Lord Of The Flies Anarchy fallen over the once peaceful land and all but one has returned to their savage ways. In William Golding s, Lord Of The Flies, The character of Piggy is a symbol of civilization. To commence, Piggy symbolises civilization because of his glasses as the fire is started by thm, and fire is the first sign key to civilization . Secondly, by insisting the continuation of the rules to be enforced on all of the island, Piggy demonstrates the ideals of civilization. Finally, Piggy idealises civilization by wanting to advance in technology on the island. In William Golding s, Lord of The Flies, Piggy symbolises civilization on the island, while others turn to primitive, savage ways. First and foremost, Piggy s glasses are used to start a fire which shows a sign of civility as fire is the starting point to civilization, with it being the way the boys will return home. During the first meeting, Ralph addresses the group to say that a fire is needed to go in order to attract attention to the island for a passing boat. The boys then, unsure how to start a fire, Ralph moved the lenses back and forth, this way and that, till a glossy white image of the declining sun lay on a piece of rotten wood. Almost at once a thin trickle of smoke rose up and made him cough (Golding 56). This shows that because of Piggy being hard of sight, the boys were able to start a fire and have the ability to return to civilization. Furthermore, due to Piggy s glasses creating the fire, the boys can now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Organ Transplant Essay Organ Transplant What is organ transplantation? Organ transplantation is a surgical procedure that involves replacing a failed organ with a healthy organ donated by another individual. Organ transplantation is often reserved as a last resort therapeutic option in certain individuals with end stage organ disease. It is generally an option in individuals that have a life expectancy of 10 or more years. Patients frequently have to undergo a series of laboratory tests including screening for infectious diseases (eg, HIV, CMV, hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis) and other conditions prior to being considered a transplant candidate. Patients with end stage kidney disease are also often bridged to kidney transplantation. They typically receive placement of a hemodialysis catheter or arteriovenous fistula in order to undergo dialysis three times per week. Dialysis machines act like the kidneys by filtering blood and balancing fluid and electrolyte levels. Patients receiving lung transplantation often have respiratory failure and require continuous oxygen therapy. Occasionally, these individuals need assisted ventilation with a breathing machine (mechanical ventilation). Individuals with cirrhosis and end stage liver disease are normally managed with medications to treat symptoms and complications of liver disease. They frequently receive therapeutic paracentesis and occasionally require a TIPS procedure prior to liver transplantation. Those with fulminant liver failure typically require urgent liver transplantation. What laboratory tests are ordered in transplant recipients? Commonly ordered blood tests in transplant recipients typically include a CMP (comprehensive metabolic panel), CBC (complete blood cell count), and thyroid function studies (TSH, free T4). A urine analysis, pregnancy test (in women of reproductive age), and urine drug screen are also normally obtained. Urine is also normally sent for bacterial culture. • 7. Value Of Shame In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter Carissa Larriuz Mrs. Gordon English 11 29 April 2018 The Value of Shame In modern culture, it is often used as a great threat and punishment to be publicly shamed, multiple judges of the court even sentence this as a punishment. When the term is used loosely, it appears an inappropriate alternative to jail time, yet when speculated closely, public shame is in some ways worse than being put away in a cell. This can be argued due to the behavior spectators display with involvement in the situation firsthand. I believe that although in some cases public shame could be excessive and not fit the crime correctly, that public shaming is an effective and influential form of punishment for certain crimes. Primitively, According to the 8th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept has existed almost as long as humans themselves, right from the beginning of creation in the story of The Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were tempted into committing the first crime known to man and once committed they were punished publicly by being unclothed. This nakedness and sense of vulnerability was a form of public shame because their entity was exposed and they were provided this punishment as a reflection of self assessment. This similar idea is conveyed in Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter. In the most basic sense, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale and Hester Prynne represent the primary characters in the biblical story of the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve. The first scaffold scene, where Hester stands alone with her baby in her arms, in terms of similarities between the story and the biblical one of Adam and Eve, plays on the biblical fact that Eve is said to have eaten the fruit first and then convinced Adam to eat it afterward. The community s belief that women are, by nature, sinful, is backed up by the interpretation of the biblical story and therefore shown in their acts of ridicule to Hester alone. Overall, the use of public humiliation as a way of instilling social discipline in in many ways highly effective when used suitably. It may lack effectiveness if the offender in question ... Discuss the impact of random and sequential I/Os in different RAID configurations The sequential large I/O and random input and output reads and write are needed for an application. It offers a good I/O response for random as it reads and poor for the small random writes. For random writes, its good and are slow for parity overhead Sequential I/Os offer good RAID reads and writes and also preferred even for large writes. For the database and standard files stored on the servers, the random I/O is preferred with an equal disk time span servicing of all of the I/O requests. For a single application, the RAID 0 with more disks are preferred. For the multiple applications, files might be performed either on RAID 1 or RAID 10. Finally, RAID 5 might receive some of the updates for workloads. Using the sequential I/O we can optimize the performance of our configuration. For writing the intensive fields its better to avoid either RAID 5 or RAID 6 rather than that we can use RAID 1 or 10. Chap 4 pg. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. How to Deal with Temper Tantrums Children are the bundles of joy of each family. Having a child in a family means laughs, jokes, playing, and a fun time with this child. No matter how bad the day was, as soon as parents see their child smiles, they forget all about the bad day, and smile back at their child. In fact, some parents wish to stay 24 hours with their children to enjoy their first smiles, first laughs, first words, and first steps. For most of them, all their time with their children is enjoyable, except one particular time. When children throw tantrums, when a child whines, cries, screams, throws him/herself on the floor, and maybe runs out of the house with no known reason, most parents wish not to be in their child s presence because of the screaming. Parents, in order to overcome these tantrums, deal with their children in many different ways. However, the question remains asked over years: What s the best way to deal with toddlers tantrums? Some parents react to a tantrum with yelling and spanking the child to force him/her to stop crying, but the more the parent yells, the more the child cries. In an interview with Cathy W, a mother of a two and half boy, she states about her son, When Jove throws a tantrum, I used to respond to that by yelling and him, and even spanking him. Then, I realized that my yelling and spanking don t solve the problem; they make Jove cries more. Medical jargon is not at all meant to speak in pig latin in front of a patient. It is so that there is no mistake when doctors are conveying information about a patient to each other. For example, to a lay person, fever may mean that the person feels hot, or that the temperature is above 100 Fahrenheit. But no one really knows and can cause a lot of confusion. With medical terms, things are very clear, so that even a surgeon in France can read a scientific journal article and know exactly what the author means. That way, also, medicine can be global and that the medical societies can share ideas and innovations. Since everything in a patient s medical records must be documented, from signs and symptoms, to the patient s medical history, to the final diagnosis and treatment, it saves the doctors and all other medical personnel a considerable amount of time to use a universally accepted form of medical terminology. And, even more importantly to use medical terminology, means it will be safer when all medical professionals, from doctors and nurses, lab techs to radiology techs, etc. use the same universal medical terminology so they don t have to try to guess what was ordered or charted on the patient s medical records or what procedure a patient needs. The Religious Aspects In Tim Burton s Sleepy Hollow Devout in the storyline of Sleepy Hollow In Sleepy Hollow, the religious aspect portrayed in the different story lines reflect the time periods they are set in. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow , published in 1820, is set in a time where different religions were very limited. Tim Burton s film, Sleepy Hollow was released in 1999, but is set in 1799, where religion is a bit more obscure. The Hollywood TV show, Sleepy Hollow is set in the present time, with flashbacks to the American Revolution. The many different versions of Sleepy Hollow are all set in different time periods, altering the religious aspect. The religion in the original story of Sleepy Hollow transforms throughout the different variations of the story, as the story line is being changed year after year. In Washington Irving s short story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow , he displays the religious aspect as being exact and very occurring, happening over and over again. In the story, the headless horseman had been heard close to the bridge, sitting right next to the church. Sleep is a complex phenomenon, best understood as the product of two intertwined biological systems : the sleep drive and the circadian alerting system. The sleep drive is our biological need for sleep. The sleep drive can be thought of as a tank that empties and fills throughout the course of a day, like the gas tank in a car. When you sleep at night, the tank is filled with sleep. You awaken in the morning, refueled and ready to drive through the day. The longer you drive through the day, the more the tank depletes. By bedtime, the tank is on E ; it is empty and you must sleep to replenish it. The sleep drive forces sleep, so that your tank can be refilled, and your biological sleep need is met. Buildings were often overcrowded with up to thirty people living in one building at one time. Other problems such as sewage leaks and pipe burst contributed to the spread of diseases. Polluted water and lack of bathing facilities added to poor general hygiene. Two million people were forced to evacuate from the cities to the countryside in which they would undertake agriculture work. The Khmer Rouge s goal was to create a rural, classless society and would force people to work in the fields for more than 12 hours a day without adequate rest or food. The Khmer Rouge placed a ban on family relationships and began an aggressive campaign to brainwash children and encourage them to spy on their parents. The children were taught to report their parents to authorities and turn in their parents as enemies of the state. Following their coming into power and the evacuations of the citizens, the Khmer Rouge turned its sights on the people in its own organization. The Khmer Rouge soon claimed that only pure people were qualified to build their revolution. They arrested and killed thousands of their soldiers, military officers and civil servants. In the next three years, the Khmer Rouge would ban religious practice and abolish money, markets, and private property. School, hospital, shops, offices, and monasteries were closed. • 19. An Inferential Analysis of Hemingway s Hills Like White... In Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants I found many layers of symbolism, and a fascinating psychological underplay afoot between his two characters. It begins with the girl s comment about a line of white hills seen in the distance, which she compares to white elephants. The man responds with the comment I ve never seen one. The symbolism of a white elephant is widely known as something very large or apparent that no one wishes to acknowledge or speak of in American society. It is an interesting opening to a very strained conversation concerning an apparent pregnancy, and the man s wish to terminate it. The couple s careful avoidance of actually naming the problem, or the proposed solution, suggests the situation in which a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At that point, the waitress tells them the train is due in five minutes. The man escapes with the bags, carrying them to the other tracks. This portion might suggest another symbolic element in the story. Just as the two have switched their life course, they are now switching trains, heading down a set of tracks carrying them towards a different outcome. He retreats to the bar inside, where he has a drink alone while looking at the people waiting reasonably for the train , then rejoins Jig, who smiles at him. And so the struggle between Jig and her lover is resolved. He has won, and she has given up her dream. The elements of the story suggested a carefree couple that traveled and drank their way across foreign landscapes together, with no responsibilities, until suddenly, they faced one of the biggest responsibilities of all. He claims to have killed 6 15 children, eaten one, and molested more than 400 children over a 20 year time period. He was later tried and convicted of his crimes and sentenced to death. There are several theories that attempt to explain the reason behind Fish s heinous crimes. Some say that his childhood doomed him for madness, Fish himself attributes his childhood to his unstable mental state. Others speculate that it was his wife leaving him with six children to raise. His development played a major role in his mental state, as it does with most people. The interesting thing about Fish, is that his tendencies and derangement did not come forth until he was well past his younger years. Whatever the case may be, Fish committed some of the most horrific crimes that have ever been witnessed in America, he shed light on the psyche of a killer. On May 19, 1870, in Washington D.C Hamilton Albert Fish was born to Randall and Ellen Fish. Randall Fish was 75 and his mother Ellen Fish was 43 at the time of his birth. We have drawn a false equivalency between military service and love of country without recognizing that patriotism takes many forms and is far more complicated than a simple salute. (Ashley Nicolas, a US veteran). People suspect that to be patriotic you have to do certain things like stand for the national anthem at sporting events or say the pledge of allegiance at school. If people see them not do those things then people will think that they hate our country or they are being disrespectful to the military. But there is not just one way of showing your patriotism. Being patriotic can be perceived differently by everyone. People should not believe in the misapprehension that if you don t stand for the national anthem that you are being disrespectful when it is for a different reason, like standing against racism. The concept of patriotism is a very complex one. It s not as simple as reciting a pledge or singing an anthem. Patriotism, by simple definition, is the exaltation of national eminence, typically expressed as power over other nations, and an emotional attachment to the nation that one originates from. These settlers left England, their native country, by the permission of King Charles the First. At their own expense they transported themselves to America, and, with great risk and difficulty, settled among other peoples native to the land. In a very surprising manner, the settlers formed new colonies in the wilderness and these establishments grew and prospered. Eventually, the differences between the colonies and Britain became quite distinguishable and apparent. The ancestors of the early adventurers experienced a different sort of liberty and patriotism in America than in its parent state. Suddenly though, this sense of self rule came to an abrupt end. Britain began challenging the autonomous rule that they had indirectly granted the colonies. John Locke argued that all individuals possessed certain natural rights such as life, liberty, and property (Greene, 96). It was the responsibility of the government to protect those inalienable rights. When Britain began imposing sanctions that limited the colonists natural rights, it violated its responsibility to its dependents. Therefore, Locke s theory provided an intellectual justification for resistance to British authority. Furthermore, Locke believed that if the government failed in preserving the natural rights of the individual then rebellion is justified (Greene, 96). Due to the development of powerful colonial cities, the end of salutary neglect of the colonies by Britain, and the increasing tension between Britain and the colonies, the American Revolution was inevitable. What was once considered a territory of rural communities and towns grew to states consisting of large urban cities. As the society of the states became more complex and integrated, dependence upon the parent country began to dwindle. As the states matured, their inhabitants were no ... Freud s method of developing latent thoughts through manifest content will be demonstrated in the following paper, which focuses on a Zuñi folktale called The Ugly Wild Boy Who Drove the Bear Away from South Eastern Mesa. The story is about a young boy who lives with his grandmother near a village called K iákime. One season it rains heavily in the Southeastern Mesa near K iákime, bringing forth fresh growth like nuts from piñon trees, fruit from datilas, and seeds from the gray grass and redtop. Using Porter s Generic Strategies Using Porter s generic strategies, identify examples of organisations following strategies of differentiation, low cost or low price, and stuck in the middle or hybrid. How successful are these strategies? An organisation bases its strategy according to its environment, and if implemented right will be successful. Firms can target their products by a broad target, thereby covering most of the marketplace, or they can focus on a narrow target in the market (Lynch, 2003). Michael Porter created a generic strategies framework in order for an organisation to gain a competitive advantage in their industry. Porter considers three generic strategies in his framework that an organisation can undertake to gain this advantage. He believes that an organisation falls into either cost leadership (lower cost) or differentiation and once applied in a broad or narrow scope, as discussed by Lynch, creates focus (Figure 1). Furthermore, some organisations undertake in more that one of these strategies and if unsuccessful is called the stuck in the middle strategy. However, if the organisation combines elements of differentiation and elements of low cost successfully, this becomes and hybrid option and is becoming increasingly popular amongst firms in the modern day. In baseball, the book Moneyball revolutionized the way that the whole sport looked at analytics. Basketball has a comparable situation. The book Basketball on Paper dives into the numbers behind the sport (Haefner 10). In this book, author Dean Oliver states there are four main statistics to tell which team will win, and also states of how much importance these statistics are. He says that a team s shooting is forty percent of winning, turnovers are twenty five percent, rebounding is twenty percent, and and free throws are fifteen percent (Haefner 11). One of the fathers of analytics in basketball claims that shooting is far and away the most important statistic in the game. However, in order to know how a team is performing in this category, the team must be compared against other teams. Doing this is extremely easy. If comparing two teams playing each other, the opposing team s effective field goal percentage is simply subtracted from the team being observed (Haefner 15). A golden example of the utility of effective field goal percentage is the Golden State Warriors. This team has broken records for three pointers made, and recently won seventy three games in a single season. The Warriors have an advantage on almost every other team in the NBA because of the vast amount of three pointers that they take (Dizikes 2). The ease with which effective field goal percentage can be used and its direct correlation to which team wins the game makes it possibly the most useful statistic in the game of basketball. • 39. Essay On College Is Not Worth A Degree College, Is it worth it? To most people college is their goal at succeeding in life. Whether you get a scholarship or pay yourself, college is expensive. To some it is a waste of time and money due to the fact that, graduates are not getting their money s worth in their degree, they are burdened by student loans, and their degree does not guarantee them a job. With that and a growing tuition rate, most people can t afford a higher education. College is simply not worth the cost anymore. With the rise in minimum wage nationwide, things cost a lot more. That doesn t mean you have $42,500 to pay for college yearly,(CNBC 2015). That s a lot of money if you re not working. Even state colleges are charging $19,000(CNBC 2015). And considering you re going to need a loan, That s going to add to our nationwide student loan debt of 1.2Trillion,(CNBC 2015). But due to the fact that you could earn enough money to pay back all that debt, it is still appealing to most people. The thing is going to college is a lot like gambling. The standard repayment plan for federal student loans is 10 year s (us news 2014). But the average bachelor degree holder takes 21 years to pay off (us news 2014), That is 11 more years than planned. A decision will be drawn from here. This process is characteristic of the inquisitorial model. In a case of theft, such as petty theft, it is considered a misdemeanor and under civil law it would involve investigation by civil servants called procurators (Law and Society, p 57). The case would be tried under civil law and a defendant in civil litigation is never incarcerated and never executed. A losing defendant in a civil litigation is only expected to reimburse the plaintiff for the goods stolen. Punitive damages are usually never awarded unless the defendant had malicious intent or gross negligence. If damages are awarded and the defendant does not have assets or insurance, the plaintiff will receive nothing even though the court awarded monetary damages (http://www.rbs2.com/cc.htm). Identify any other factors for consideration. Would the fact that your friend is female impact her treatment under the law in this country? In France, the fact that she is a female would not have an impact on the outcome of her crime. The same process would apply whether she is female or male. In civil law, the wrongdoer is not punished; he only suffers so much harm as is necessary to make good the wrong he or she has done (http://www.rbs2.com/cc.htm). C57BL/6 mice were given 0.2% cuprizone (CPZ) for 2 to 6 weeks while controls ate the same diet without CPZ. At various time points the animals were subjected to behavioral tests and their brains were analyzed. Mice exposed to CPZ for 2 and 3 weeks displayed more climbing behavior and lower prepulse inhibition, suggesting an increase in central nervous system activity and impaired sensorimotor gating. In addition, they showed lower activities of monoamine oxidase and dopamine beta hydroxylase in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex, and had higher dopamine but lower norepinephrine levels in the prefrontal cortex. These studies suggest a role for oligodendrocytes and brain demyelination in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. To examine the putative role of oligodendrocytes in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, animal studies are essential. Among possible animal models, the cuprizone (CPZ) induced demyelination in C57BL/6 mice appear to be highly promising and deserving of close scrutiny. CPZ is a copper chelator and has been shown to specifically damage the myelin sheath and oligodendrocytes, but not to cause lesions in other cell types in the central nervous system (CNS; Matsushima Morell, 2001; Remington, Babcock, Zehntner, Owens, 2007; Selvaraju et al., 2004). Also, CPZ was shown to have no effects on peripheral nerves (Komoly, 2005). Moreover, demyelinated animals on a CPZ diet showed reduced running performance on the training wheels and this was even more pronounced when these mice were subsequently exposed to the complex wheels (Liebetanz Merkler, 2006). More recently, other behavioral changes have been described in C57BL/6 mice treated with CPZ. It was reported that at 3 and 4 weeks of 0.2% CPZ treatment, the animals exhibited an increase in CNS activity and a reduced anxiety response to a novelty challenge test. At 5 weeks of treatment equilibrium was altered and sensorimotor reactivity was also affected (Franco Pons, Torrente, Colomina, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

King Benjamin, perhaps the most eloquent Book of Mormon character to testify of Jesus, introduces many of these titles of Christ during his speech to the Nephites.
