Archetypes In Star Wars
Star Wars. Harry Potter. The Marvel Cinematic Universe. These seemingly unrelated movie
franchises seem to not have a lot in common other than the fact that they were all uber successful.
In actuality, however, they have a lot more in common than that. These movie franchises at one
point or another have served as the modern media mythological framework for a period of time.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has used a slightly altered Hero s Cycle, archetypes and the
teaching of life lessons to create a modern mythology that fulfills Joseph Campbell s fourth
function of myth and has also become a modern media mythological framework that has already
begun to be copied.
Joseph Campbell first introduced the idea of a Hero s Cycle in his book The Hero with a Thousand
Faces. The Hero s Cycle is a series of several steps that a typical hero story, whether an ancient
Greek story such as Hercules or a modern story told through film like Star Wars, follows. The main

Archetypes along with the hero s cycle have really been the foundation that all modern
mythological media have been built on. If you applied the hero s cycle and the main archetypes
typically used in myth to Star Wars, Harry Potter, the Lord of the Rings, you would see similar
results as shown by comparing these to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These movies all have a
very similar structure but it is often the lessons that the story focuses in on that set the movies
apart. The Harry Potter books and movies, for example, placed a much larger emphasis on the
problems facing a typical school child, than really any movie series had before. This is what made
it unique. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, in a similar fashion, has focused on teaching several
lessons to the audiences that watch these

The Sorceress Research Paper
The sorceress has told me many stories about you and how she was so easily able to take me away
from you. I am now 12 years of age and my hair has grown to be very long and beautiful. The
sorceress uses my hair as a rope for her to get up into a tower that she has locked me in. I can see
your hut from the tippy top of my tower and you seem to be doing well. I always wonder to
myself, though, how were my parents so easily able to give me up? I understand that the
sorceress has powers that are evil beyond belief, but you couldn t have tried to fight a bit more to
keep your child? My life in the tower is very boring and I have the same routine every day: wake
up, clean the tower, sing songs, go to bed, and repeat the next day. Last, a young prince

The Athenian Jury In The Apology
Depicting the justification between the Athenian jury against the father of philosophy, the Apology
exhibits Plato s recollection and interpretation of the notorious trial of Socrates. Accused of refusing
to worship the gods recognized by the Athenian state, corrupting the youth, and informally
addressing himself throughout the trial, Socratespresents himself as a villain or an enemy to the
Athenian society and jury. Even though Socrates could have solicited pity towards the jury by
strengthening his defense with emotional appeal, Socrates refusal to appease the jury in the Apology
justly transcends the moral values of the Athenian jury and the modern human. Socrates emphasis
on preserving the impartiality of the trial provides support for Socrates refusal to appease the jury.
Given the opportunity to show pathos and ethos appeal the importance of his family and friends
Socrates restrains himself from instigating any bias into the trial, in order to keep the trial
unprejudiced. Showing emotions conceivably cloud the jury s judgment and influence its decisions

Knowing he could receive the penalty of execution, Socrates did not fear death due to his belief
of his old age and his views on death. Socrates views death like sleep in which the sleeper does
not even dream at all and like a trip from here to another place that all of the dead do indeed exist
in another place (Cooper 35). Despite Socrates fatherly love for his sons, he self assuredly
requests his friends to look after sons hoping the truth of pursuing goodness above money and
earthly may be passed on to his children. Socrates optimistic views on death and his sons
overshadow any limitations for the spread of his philosophical ideas, revealing the gravity of the
truth in Socrates

Dumbest Generation Essay
There have been many claims that Generation Y, or millennials, are the dumbest generation to
have lived. However, millennials, while they don t hold extensive knowledge, know where to get
the information needed and can access the information they need for research quicker than past
generations due to search engines. Millennials also can change their tone to match their audience
generally better than past generations as well. Does this mean they can be considered the smartest
generation? Possibly. Millennials today seem to care more about where to get the information
they need rather than retaining it. For example, they know they can access the Google search
engine. This shows that, according to Begley (Source 2), Gen Y s ignorance of facts reflect not
dumbness, but choice. This lack of knowledge does not prove that millennials are dumb, but that
they have access to a lot of information if they choose to use their sources, and since this
information is readily available, they do not have to necessarily retain facts. Also, contrary to some
beliefs, the access to search engines don t make the generation dumb, but it rather changes the way
they do... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because millennials are generally on social media where they are writing to their Facebook
friends, or Twitter followers, on almost a daily basis, which in turn means there s a large possibility
that they are writing more than past generations. In Source 7, Thompson states Lunsford s team
found that the students were adept at what rhetoricians call karios assessing their audience and
adapting their tone and technique to best get their point across. The modern world of online
writing, particularly in chat or on discussion threads, is conversation and public, which makes it
closer to the Greek tradition of argument than the asynchronous letter and essay writing of 50 years

The Impact Of Augustine s Confessions
When considering all the pieces I read during English 104, Augustine s Confessions made the
biggest impact on me because of his explanation of the nature of sin, why we deviate from God s
will, and how God tirelessly pursues His children so that they might be saved. Augustine writes that
anything contrary to Gods will is sin. There exists a hierarchy of goods: God is at the top, with all
of goods residing beneath. When humans pursue any other good before God s glory, they reject
the necessity of Christ s redemptive sacrifice. This disordered love of earthly things only digresses
into perpetual sin. Augustine equates sin to a soul filled with ulcers that man scratches with the
pleasures of the world that will never fully satisfy the itch. This

American Terrorism Environment Style Analysis
Terrorism, a very prevalent topic in today s society can be viewed in many different sectors,
depending on the actions taken by terrorist organizations. American Terrorism, Environment Style,
written by Doug Bandow, predominantly deliberates about the acts/ views of eco terrorism. With
close alliance to the title, the opening statement, Terrorists are loose in America eco terrorists (cite),
expresses the emergence of eco terrorism. Eco terrorism, according to the Federal Bureau, is the
use or threatened use of violenceof a criminal nature against people or property by an
environmentally oriented subnational group for environmental political reasons or aimed at an

Front (ELF) and the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) have created damages worth up to 45
million dollars, from incidents that date back to the 1996. ELF and ALF used arson, which
started to kill people as well as destroy property (cite). With no discouragement to the eco
saboteurs, eco terrorism on the rise is going to start killing people and destroying property.
Humans, are part of one earth network (ecosystem) along with plants, animals and inanimate
objects. The intention to kill a nonliving object, like an SUV, eco terrorist have begun to kill
parts of earth s eco system. In the end, eco terrorist are doing what they did not intend to do.
Doug Bandow, a consequentialist philosopher, believes that having a good outcome is caused
because of a good action and vice versa, bad outcomes have bad actions. Doug talks about the
ALEC and how there is no fine line between judging actions that are good or actions that are bad.
Under a valid argument, of a conditional argument (modus ponens), it can be concluded that, If
ALEC conducted laws against eco terrorism, then there will be a decrease of crimes. ALEC
conducted laws against eco terrorism. Therefore, there is a decrease of eco terrorism acts. As a
character Doug Bandow can be seen as

The Old Alton Bridge is a Historical Landmark to Denton, Texas. This bridge is located in Alton,
Texas just within the Denton county line. During the previous decade, Denton county population

Time Essay
Time
Time is defined as a measured or measurable period, a continuum that lacks spatial dimensions. This
broad definition lacks the simple explanation that humans are searching for. There are many
scientists, philosophers, and thinkers who have tried to put time into understanding terms. The
aspects of time that we can understand are only based on what we can perceive, observe, and
calculate.
Every day we look at our watches or clocks. We plan our day around different times of the day.
Time tells us when to eat, when to sleep, and how long to do things for. If time were based on
these simple terms, then this mysterious enigma would not be in debate. There are the issues of
space and time; what is the relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When space and the universe began, the existence of time also began. This theory is well known as
the Big
Bang Theory. About fifteen billion years ago, the universe was comprised of very hot compressed
gas, as a fireball.
This is contrary to the idea of the universe beginning as a lump of matter somewhere in the void
of space. Matter was created as a result of the Big Bang. Space and time was also created. So, with
these ideas, time had a beginning.
Looking at it a different way, in the early universe, the normal concept of time is uncertain. Our
accepted perceptions, and calculations of time can t be explained all the way back to the Big
Bang. There is no way to define time in that era. This is another way that time has a beginning; as
far back as we can calculate. Space time began at the same time. According to Hawking, you can t
look at the universe using general relativity without finding a big bang or something similar to that
at the very beginning. So what does time mean to people now? Time is different as you go
through time zones. Everyone has their own perception of time. Nobody is ever on the same
schedule, doing things exactly like another person. Even to go as far as other galaxies and planets,
time cannot be existing on the same terms. In short, time is not absolute.
In the space time continuum, space bends whenever there is a mass. It s kind of like a bowling ball
hitting a

What Are The Roles Of English Language
Introduction
The term language describes any body of sounds, words, symbols or gestures used by specific
groups of people to communicate with each other (Language, n. d.). There are many types of
languages including speech, body language, sign language, and written languages such as
mathematics, music and symbols. Language has many functions that are determined by the mode in
which they are presented. The way language is conveyed can alter the intended meaning or context
for example a difference in tone can change a comment from complimentary to sarcastic.
Language is continuously evolving. An example of this is the short, abbreviated style we now use
to communicate digitally. One tiny picture called an emoji can now convey our feelings. Emojis
are also universal, serving as a communication tool to bridge the gap between different languages.
Other examples of language evolving are the several new forms of English that have emerged such
as Aboriginal English, American English and East Asian English.
Language plays many roles in our lives as language is both a social tool and an information tool
(Hayes Gee, 2011, p.24). Language is a powerful means of communication, learning and self
expression; and contributes substantially to our sense of identity, wellbeing and belonging. Children
predominantly learn language from observing and interacting with adults. The manner in which
adults use language and interact with children, determines how children learn to use language

Example Of Assimilation In America
Assimilation in America
In American society, there are multiple cultures and races exist. Since immigrants bring the various
cultures to America, Americans face a highly controversial problem. Some of the Americans
believe all of the ethnic groups assimilate into a common culture can help Americans distinctly
identify themselves. Others argue that ethnic groups should not abandon their cultural heritages
background. As a result, merging different cultures into one new culturewill cause America lose its
cultural diversity which is one significant charm of this country. On the contrary, if every ethnic
group only focuses on building their own community and resists communicate with others, it will
aggravate the separation of a nation. Although people often argue about these two ways which one
is more appropriate to Americans, I think Richard Rodriguez s idea is more realistic in nowadays
American society. Rodriguez resists the idea of the melting pot, and believes that assimilation is
inevitable and reciprocal. In the essay Does America Still Exist?, Rodriguez explains his thought to
us through his experiences.
First, Rodriguez thinks the old metaphor of a melting pot is no longer accepted by Americans. He
indicates that As much as the country is joined in a common culture, however, Americans are
reluctant to celebrate the process of assimilation. We pledge allegiance to diversity. (Paragraph 7)
To clarify, when a single culture assimilates into a common culture, the

My Antonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, And Roselily By Willa Cather
The most poignant struggle within female literature is, almost always, the relationship that women
have with power. It presents itself in many forms through a relationship, within the workplace, or
even self imposed, women are always juxtaposed against the structure of power for one reason or
another. However, despite the uplifting narrative development that generally occurs within these
stories, the concern about powerstruggle is never truly resolved the problem remains. Through My
ГЃntonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, and Roselily , the reader can see that the influence of power and its
negative and toxic consequences proves fatal within class, race, and gender boundaries.
Willa Cather s My ГЃntonia displays the gender focused concern about power within the female
character s life. The narrator, Jim Burden, is immediately introduced to the reader as a man who
sees the world through rose colored glasses. That is, he s got a romantic disposition on life and sees
things the way he wants to see them, rather than the way they actually are. The most complicated
area that concerns Jim, though, is his relationship with ГЃntonia. Throughout the novel, there s a
clear longing for her that Jim seems to exude he never really attempts to kindle a romantic
relationship with her, but she s a highly romanticized figure in his eyes and someone who he holds
very dear. So it s clear, then, that because of this closeness that Jim feels towards ГЃntonia, he
holds her to standards that have significant

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)
Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is when blood flow to the heart is temporarily or permanently
blocked. This is problematic to the wellbeing of one s heart, because blood transports the materials
(nutrients, minerals, oxygen) that are required for heart muscles (or any muscle) to contract and
sustain the life of those cells. Caption #1 shows the muscles in the heartthat are affected by CHD.
Coronary Heart Disease can be caused by the buildup of plaque (cholesterol) in the arteries which
direct bloodto the heart, and by the increase in blood pressure.
Caption #1: Shows the muscles that are damaged by CHD
Caption #2: Shows the changes on a fatty acid after hydrogenation.
Plaque building up in the arteries, also called atherosclerosis, is mainly affected by one s diet,
specifically in the ingestion of lipids. The lipids that are likely to cause CHD are: saturated fats,
and trans fats. Trans fats are created artificially from hydrogenated vegetable oils, which would
usually be unsaturated, which changes the physical properties of ... Show more content on

Smoking regularly may raise blood pressure (caused by nicotine), damage the lining of one s
blood vessels, and (similar to trans fats) increases LDL while lowering HDL. Physical activity
can help reduce the risk of CHD by regulating blood pressure and the levels of lipids in blood
cells. Without regular physical activity, these benefits are not being exploited, and a high blood
pressure and high lipid concentration may lead to CHD. Diabetes is a risk for CHD because it
promotes high glucose levels in blood cells. This is because the hormone insulin, that helps
transport glucose to other cells, is not being created or isn t being used properly. The result could
be an abnormal level of sugar in blood cells. These symptoms can lead to CHD, because it also
promotes hypertension and abnormal lipid levels in the

Genetic Counseling Paper
Genetic Counseling
According to Berger (2014), a patient can receive genetic counseling to learn more about a
condition/disease he or she may possibly be at risk for and may possibly pass onto their children
(p. 88). A genetic counselor is educated and trained to describe to the patient the condition/disease,
the benefits and drawbacks for taking the genetic test, the test results meaning, and how having the
condition could affect their future children (Berger, 2014, p. 88). Then, the patient not the genetic
counselor makes decisions about his or her next steps with respect to all the information they have
been provided by the genetic counselor (Berger, 2014, p. 89).

Longitudinal Study In The Classroom
longitudinal study is needed in order to ascertain whether the use of language within formal
feedback or challenge activities are beneficial to students.
Haimovitz (2016) makes another suggestion, related to the limited impact we can truly have on
pupils whilst they are in school by stating that children s mindsets were more related to their parents
attitudes to failure than their attitudes to intelligence. Are pupils more influenced by external
factors, than what we, as educators can do in the classroom?

One overarching theme that developed fairly early on is the change in focus my study took. I
felt, at times, my study was slightly ambitious, allowing my focus to switch between challenge
and feedback far too often. It is possible, now I have concluded my initial study, to further
develop what the pupils do in class and not focus on what I do outside of the class, as I believe
this has had a bigger impact on pupils development. My general one size fits all approach to
challenge activities is an obvious flaw, with all pupils having different abilities, approaches and
limitations to their own learning. Despite being given ownership for their own learning, it is
impossible for all pupils to make progress at the same rate and this was indicated through a good
attitude to learning, but poor quality of work. The developing growth mindset of pupils almost
compensated for their lack of ability to adapt the necessary skills to complete what had been
asked of them. As identified by Bush (2017), pupils need to be equip with multiple strategies in
order for them to fall back on if their first strategy fails them. In light of this, in any future study,
I would like to consider how I can spend time connecting ideas, from previous lessons. Many of
the pupils in this study struggled the clear links between previous learning, unable to make the
necessary connections to reach the higher order thinking. Much of the skills needed within BTEC
Health and Social Care asked them to reflect on previous learning (in the form of different units)
in order for them to progress successfully. Chris Reck (2007) discussed the importance of
connecting ideas, building bridges between a sequence of lessons so pupils can see the importance
of sequential knowledge. It would be

Fox Enchantment is written by Pu Songling. A western ghoststory The Old Nurse s Story by English

the NCAA and their executives need to figure out a way to start compensating for their golden

Tim Male had one question in mind How do we get more people to vote? and introduced the
proposal. By trying to lower the age I believe Miller wanted to catch the attention of teenagers in
the hope that they would want to vote but forgot that not many teens come from a home that is
politically involved so this was something new but not something exciting. For example in the
article Ben Miller states the he has no burning issues motivating him, not even the legalization of
marijuana and he even accompanied his mother to a recent candidate forum and was asked if he

Descartes’ Cogito Argument Successfully Shows the Evil...
Does Descartes Cogito argument successfully show that the Evil Demon Argument is unsound?
In this essay I will attempt to show that the philosopher, RenГЁ Descartes Cogito Argument
successfully proves the Evil Demon Argument to be unsound. By an analysis of the structure of
the arguments and what they prove, I will show the evil demon argument to be unsound. An
argument is unsound when the premises as false and the argument is invalid. This analysis of
both structure and content will eventuate in objections on the aforementioned categories. To take
any of Descartes arguments in consideration I have to understand why he started his meditations
in order to prove Gods existence and to gain clear and distinct knowledge. At the same time of
his first meditation he was engaged in a raging war within Europe and lost some his close family
members (Smith, K., 2014), he too was at risk of death all because of certain religious beliefs. It
is easy to understand that he wrote all of his meditations in order for himself to be sure of dying
for what he believed in. Descartes first meditation works in three stages: at first he tries to show
that he does not have any empirical knowledge, meaning he does not have any knowledge based
on his senses since he proved that his senses could possibly be deceiving him. He then says that it
does not rule out his a priori knowledge which is knowledge that does not require observation or
experience but it is rather mathematical

Kiss Of Judas Essay
1.The painting I have chosen is called the Kiss of Judas by Giotto di Bondone, a Florentine
painter and architect. This painting is standing approximately twelve feet tall. It was created in
the fourteenth century between the early years of 1305 1306 in the South Wall of Scrovegni,
Chapel in Padua, Italy. The materials Giotto di Bondone used were called fresco painting.
Fresco is Italian for the word French According to ArtLex it is A method of painting on plaster,
either dry (dry fresco or fresco secco) or wet (wet or true fresco). In the latter method, pigments
are applied to thin layers of wet plaster so that they will be absorbed and the painting becomes part
of the wall .
2.In this painting I see a conflict between Judas and Jesus Christ. A bunch of men in a dark setting

When it comes down to the visual elements of a painting Giotto di Bondone knows how to make
his paintings come to life. The Kiss of Judas, to me, seems to be a painted with a sense of
realism. Not only with the way had the clothes fit around the people in these paintings bodies but
also the color. Blue, yellow, and red is shown to be very important colors to capture this moment.
With these colors the shadows are brought out to make this painting look natural. As I mentioned
before the setting is a bit dark and Bondone uses a certain balance between what the people are
wearing and the outside frame. The most important element I seen was the lines. When Judas is
kissing Jesus you can see the torches creating a certain line focusing on their faces of this kiss. The
second thing I notice is the space in this painting. Looking to the left there is a man pulling another
one, and on the right letting a person know that there are more layers of things going on outside of

2. A faceoff starts each period of the game, and takes place after every goal. Depending on if you
are male or female, the faceoff is different.
a. A faceoff, or draw, is when two players come to exact middle of the field, which is marked by a
small circle. The rest of the team surrounds them, standing on the edges of the circle.
b. For males, the faceoff takes place on the ground. Both players in the faceoff try to push the ball
to their teammates on the outside of the circle, so they can start with possession of the ball.
c. For females, the draw takes place with both players standing up, and the ball balanced between
the two sticks, at anywhere from waist to shoulder height. Pressure is applied from both players, so
when the referee blows his whistle, the player with stronger force pushes the ball towards their
teammates and gains possession.
3. The referees make lots of calls during the game, because there are many little rules that the
players have to be aware of. Some of the most popular rules for refs to call are shooting space ,
crease violations, and dangerous checking.

The Origin Of Organic Abstraction
Organic Abstraction The origin of organic abstraction is centered around the post World War
artistic talents pioneered by Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. Sharing the same philosophy
of Henri Bergeson, who believed evolutionary process (nature) and artist creativity (art) come
from the same origin. (32 Bergson) Using nature as a muse of creation, artists used simple
curves and lines to define and object to resemble that of a human body or other living natural
objects. War brought about conformity and closed minded views on every aspect of life. During
this time significant ruler s such as Hitler and Stalin influenced every aspect of life and death for
the world. Many artists revolted against the idealism of the time. Moore and Hepworth began the
journey and sought refuge and peaceful surroundings of St. Ives to start their own artist group
which held (in the beginning) nineteen different artists with the same beliefs and expressions.
Moore felt that every material has its own individual qualities. (728 Wadsworth) His work
consisted of large pieces that were rounded in shape and even though they were not formed in the
ideal human form was still visible. Hepworth s artwork was similar she took ordinary pieces of
wood and opened them to new dynamics and shapes appealing to the eye. Organic artworks fit well
in nature because they are inspired by nature. Natural forms of art would inspire other well known
artists to embrace the organic abstraction beliefs, bringing

Integration Of Proxy Model With Enkf Algorithms For Time...
Methodology
This section contains the mathematical background and stepwise procedure for EnKF algorithm,
KL expansion and ANN based proxy model. Integration of proxy model with EnKF algorithms for
time efficient assisted history matching is also explained in this section. Ensemble Kalman Filter
Algorithm
EnKF is a Monte Carlo data assimilation method, which has gained popularity over recent years
for assisted history matching due to its ability to include available observations sequentially in
time. Aanonsen et al. (2009) reviewed the application of EnKF in reservoir engineering for
estimation of reservoir parameters. EnKF procedure utilizes an ensemble of model states (e.g.
realizations of reservoir properties such as porosity and permeability) to estimate the covariance
matrices used in model updating process. Initial ensemble is generated based on the prior
knowledge of the reservoir derived from various sources as well logs, core and seismic analysis. In
general, simulation techniques such as Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS) and Sequential
Indicator Simulation (SIS) are used to generate multiple realizations. These realizations are
consistent with the initial state of the reservoir. In the next step, all the reservoir models in
ensemble are forwarded typically using the numerical reservoir simulation. Mean and covariance of
predicted model states is calculated and used in turn to calculate Kalman gain. Next, in the update
(or analysis) step, each geological

Stage design allowing the utilization of projected images on surfaces can create a dynamic
canvas on which to apply vision. The applications are only limited by your imagination and
ability to position the projector. Some examples include: a window space to see outside, a mirror
to show symbolic representations of character, floor space to create a pool of water, smoke,
curtains etc.
Lighting design:
It is important when incorporating video into live performance that you consider the effect of lights
on the screen surface. One difficulty in setting lights is that they can significantly degrade the
brightness and colour of the screen images if there is light either directly hitting or bouncing from
the floor onto the screen.
One solution is to set the screen up from the floor and placing some blocks/staging in front to
block some of the bouncing light. When considering colour gels it is imperative to consider
colours used in the screen images and try to match them as well as possible to give a blended effect.

Essay on Langston Hughes and Jesse B. Simple
Lansgton Hughes and Jesse B. Semple
In the early 1940s an African American writer by the name of Langston Hughes, who flourished
during the Harlem Renaissance in New York, had established a character in his short story writings
named Jesse B. Semple. Through these short stories he used this character to represent the black
man of his times. However the question remains, is Jesse B. Semple an accurate representation of
the black man of 1940s? This question can best be answered by looking at the conditions of society
during that time period, what the mind set of the black man in that era and comparing it to the
representation that Hughes created with Jesse B. Semple.

Renaissance they held more importance during the 1940s. To best comprehend what the
character, Jesse B. Semple represented you must look at the society of that era and the point in
time he was created. Hughes began writing the, Simple stories in 1943. It started as a weekly
column in the Negro Newspaper, the Chicago Defender. During the 1940s the black man was still
experiencing oppression and segregation from the whites in America. The Civil Rights movement
had not yet taken place so blacks were still considered less then a citizen. Blacks in America could
not vote yet nor could they eat in the same restaurants as whites or even get a job other than a
servant in a white business or establishment. Therefore, with the type of climate that the society of
the 1940s had, many of the black authors coming out of the Harlem Renaissance, especially
Hughes, were considered radicals.
During the 1940s there were many authors creating poems and stories to try and uplift the spirit of
the black community in New York. However, Langston Hughes felt inspired to write about a
fictional character, which in he attempted to represent all of the feelings of the black man without
being blatant or bold: Jesse B. Semple is certainly no romantic hero, protest victim or

defendant have real live emotions. Being in a courtroom would also mean the jury would be

All I Need To Know About Manufacturing I Learned In Joe s Garage By William B. Miller, Vicki

1. The workers were issued envelopes containing Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering
drawings.
a)Ralph observed certain inconsistencies between the two sets of drawings.
b)The two departments that were responsible for producing the drawings do not communicate with
each other. The Engineering department does not design for manufacturing. It seems that efficiency
and costs are not considered in the design phase.
2) By buying lumber cut to length he would have cut production time, waste, labor and costs
related with tooling. Less space would have been required. It is also likely that the quality of the

A worker has to go to the computer each time an operation is completed, and Joe s son wastes his
time recording mostly useless data. Screws are counted and delivered in marked bags, scrap wood
is recorded, etc.
The plan is rigid and is not focused on achieving a minimum but on not exceeding a maximum
deadline. The amount of work in progress is high and the planning does not factor that in. In this
particular case, a mistake at the beginning, when there is little work in progress, may not have
much of an impact or no impact at all because of the generous buffers. A mistake later, when the
amount of work in progress is high, may delay the work more than the buffers can compensate for.
a)Ralph suggests building only one section at a time cellular manufacturing. In this case the
operation becomes so small that the planning and control system designed by Joe becomes
redundant.
b)The amount of work in progress is minimized. Fewer tools are needed. The parts do not have to
travel between the work stations. The control systems becomes redundant, everything takes place in
the garage.
5. Joe does not have an incentive system. The workers are bullied and rushed to do the work with
no reward if they finish in time. Promises (a beer at the end) are not kept.
a)He relies on a computer for performance evaluation. It is easy to get first hand information, as the
shelves production takes place in his own backyard, but instead he uses

Aca Code Of Ethics Essay
Which code(s) might cause you difficulties when you are a practicing counselor and why?
Professional ethic codes designate the highest expectations of professional implications and
describe the potential situations that we can face in practice. Instead of these great efforts, one
booklet cannot include all we need when we encounter an ethical dilemma. Particularly, when the
law and ethics code conflicts, ethical decision making become highly critical and problematic.
According to me, one of the most challenging ethical dilemmas occurs while working with a
minor client who demands for keeping her/his information confidential. As far as I concern, this
might not be uncommon in the counseling field and ethical decision making does not seem to be
easy. Besides the professional ethical codes, counselors have to know laws and consider the best
interest of the client. As a general rule, parents and legal guardians are responsible for and have a
right to be informed about their children until these children reach the age of eighteen. Although
there are some exceptions, this is the general rule in the US and most of the countries around the
world. Certainly, this is a reasonable rule especially if parents and legal guardians are supportive
and cooperative with the therapist. ACA Code of ethics (2014) dealt with this issue with the codes of

Morphology of Rural Settlements in Malda
Abstract:
The rural settlement within the Malda district highlights human attempts for the livelihood and
building the habitat on the diverse geographical landscapes. The characteristics of its natural
endowments, social conditionality and historical antecedents and most importantly the human
efforts gave the rural countryside a certain kind of social and morphological characteristics. The
morphological characteristics of the villages have been collected from the different natural regions
of the districts in order to understand the divergent forces and feature of it. This paper has focused
on understanding the settlement pattern in the Malda district in the three broad geographic regions
of it namely Tal, Diara and Barind.

The Skin We Seek Analysis
The Visions and Ciphers passage of The Skin We Ink by David Kirkland tells a story of literacy
as it relates to a black male. Similarly, Ta Nehisi Coates excerpt from his novel Between the
World and Me records his own literacy experience as a black male. Delving deeper than their
surface similarities of black male literacy, these two writings also explore the reason for literacy
in their subjects lives. According to Kirkland there is an assumptions of black males lack of
literacy [that] relates to assumptions of their lack of humanity because literacy is a human issue,
and by denying literacy, one also denies a person s humanity . Kirkland is trying to assert that an
interpretation of literature/literacy that boosts up African Americans and gives them credibility as
intelligent beings is constantly dismissed simply because those in power (Caucasian Americans) do
not want to give any sort of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coates literacy journey was a result of his own individual exploration of the world in general
and black history in particular. His literacy experience was almost accidental in a way. He did not
embark on his journey with the intention of seeking out the true definition of literacy, but rather
trying to learn more about black history and gain knowledge about the viewpoints of key black
figures. The sometimes directly contradictory ideas of these leaders forced him to begin a deeper
exploration that led Coates to gain an appreciation of the differences while still respecting and
considering the varied viewpoints. Coates journey ultimately led him away from the educational
system and then straight back to it. From this back and forth came about Coates own definition of
literacy: a means of understanding the world around you. For Coates, literacy was a means to an
end. Overall, like Todd, literacy aided him in better understanding the world around him and putting

Characteristics Of A Servant Leader
Title of the Paper in Twelve Words or Less Servant leadership is a unique style of management that
ensures the needs of employees are met even if it means the leader has to make personal sacrifices.
The idea is that by serving others they will in turn not only do the bare minimum required for their
occupation but rather put forth the extra effort because they respect the authority of their manager.
This method of managementis absolutely applicable in the field of nursing for anyone because it
makes everyone accountable for their own actions, not just the charge nurses or managers of a
unit. A nurse can exemplify the role of servant leader by setting the needs of their patients as
priority. The following paper will look into a few of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ties into aligning what people say with their actions. A leader may say their employees are the
biggest asset to the company but the actions of that leader may say something different (88). One
study found using love in leadership can also be positive when working with children (LOVE). In
early childhood, love based leadership could develop an environment where children are able to
express their full abilities; a key factor to develop this type of environment is to envision things
form the child s perspective (LOVE). This method should also be adopted in the hospitals so
healthcare providers are better able to meet the needs of their patient by placing themselves in
the patient s perspective. The third characteristic for servant leadership is being a humble leader.
When people think of characteristics of a leader today, being humble is usually not one that
comes to mind. Rather, leaders may be described as being full of themselves, or egotistical (110).
If a leader removes the pretenses of knowing everything and being powerful, employees will see
their leaders as being more authentic (111). As organizations become more and more complex it is
impossible for any one person to be an expert in all the different sectors, therefore leaders should
humble themselves by admitting they are not all knowing and should use the different traits,
talents, knowledge, and contributions of the followers around them to cultivate a

Sean Mannion Case Study
The last time a football team played in Los Angeles was in 1994 and that was with the Los
Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Raiders. Both teams left after the 1994 season. The Raiders
returned back to Oakland and the Rams relocated to St. Louis. Fortunately for football fans in Los
Angeles, the Rams returned back to LA this year. They played their first preseason gamein LA on
Saturday and beat the Dallas Cowboys by 4 points in a 28 24 comeback finish. The Rams played
mediocrely, but finished strong especially with surprisingly good QB, Sean Mannion who wasn
t even expected to get a role in the QB position this year. Sean Mannion went 18/25 for 147 yards
and 3 TD with 1 INT. Case Keenum, the presumptive regular season starter did go 6/7 for 58
yards and no TD or INT and a RTG of 101.2. Case Keenum played well for the time he was in, but
only got 7 attempts in, so it is hard to say what his true value is at this point. Unfortunately, 2016
overall first round pick, Jared Goff played a somewhat lackluster game and left with a minor
shoulder injury. Goff went 4/9 for 38... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the last five years the Seahawks have been to the Super Bowl twice and the 49ers have been

last season and were the 20th ranked team in that category and look to improve on defense with a
number of returning players like Trumaine Johnson, Robert Quinn, and Aaron Donald. On the
offensive side, players like Todd Gurley and Tavon Austin with most likely shine this year. The
only questionable position heading into this season will be the quarterback position. It will be up
to one of those three players to step it up and play like a true NFL QB if they want their team to

Hillbilly Elegy Literary Analysis
The novel, Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance was eye opening about the poverty situation currently
facing the Appalachia people. Vance brings the culture surrounding the community and the
government s effect on the people s situation down to a level even the strictest Republican or
Democrat can empathize with the situation. The issue surrounding low income families is not that
the government doesn t provide enough assistance, but that the culture does not promote the same
success potential as the wealthy culture does. The assistance provided to these communities needs
to be restructured to help build up the community not just put a band aid on the situation. It is
essential to note that Vance believes that government interference with the poor... Show more

Instead, it involves the community s ability to change the culture around their children. He talks
about resilient children able to prosper in low income environments because they have the support
of a loving adult. The community has to step up by creating an environment that encourages
success, whether that be in a trade or by going to college. Vance is a prime example of how his
community, not the government, propelled him out of poverty. Vance was on path to continue in the
cycle his mother had created. She bounced from man to man, was arrested and in rehab multiple
times, and was angry most of the time. Vance s grandparents pushed him to get through school with
good grades. He then went into the marines, where he learned to get out of his community s sense
of learned helplessness. He then worked his way through Ohio State and Yale law school, while
meeting his beautiful wife. He overcame several occasions that his background could have
prevented him from succeeding in his profession. Vance attributes this success to his grandparents
who pushed him through school, his marine supervisors that guided him through difficult decisions,
his advisor at Yale that gave him life changing advice, and his sister who was a constant support

Tears Of Darfur
Tragedy happens every day and when it affects a large number of people, it makes headlines.
However, the world lets some of these tragedies go unnoticed. The mass slaughtering of humans
should never be overlooked or underestimated. The region of Darfur, located in Sudan, has been
dealing with such horrors as it undergoes a genocidethat began in 2003. Every day, the people of
Darfur undergo conditions that most people would deem unbelievably difficult. Unfortunately, this
terrible incident does not receive the attention it deserves and is often ignored by many countries of
the world. In attempts to inform the people of the world, photographs and videos have been taken,

Video. The documentary On Our Watch has claimed the top spot in being the best way to inform
others about the horrible genocide Darfur has been struggling with. Not only is all the
information specific, there is real time footage of the conflict, the survivors, and the damage left.
There is no misunderstandings that could come from this video as translators are provided,
ensuring that English is present throughout the video. The only possible disadvantage could be
the length of the video, or any video. However, instead of spending ten minutes watching a
compilation of cats knocking things down, the average person could watch this video and see
what the world has often ignored. To be informed about a crisis is more useful than being
knowledgeable in a feline s preferred tyrannical idea of fun. There is no better way to gain
knowledge than to discover first hand how the people of a crisis live. Once people become more
aware, they could even look at such events and say that the genocide in Darfur is no way to live!
This video could be the key to a more globally aware

  • 2. Archetypes In Star Wars Star Wars. Harry Potter. The Marvel Cinematic Universe. These seemingly unrelated movie franchises seem to not have a lot in common other than the fact that they were all uber successful. In actuality, however, they have a lot more in common than that. These movie franchises at one point or another have served as the modern media mythological framework for a period of time. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has used a slightly altered Hero s Cycle, archetypes and the teaching of life lessons to create a modern mythology that fulfills Joseph Campbell s fourth function of myth and has also become a modern media mythological framework that has already begun to be copied. Joseph Campbell first introduced the idea of a Hero s Cycle in his book The Hero with a Thousand Faces. The Hero s Cycle is a series of several steps that a typical hero story, whether an ancient Greek story such as Hercules or a modern story told through film like Star Wars, follows. The main steps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Archetypes along with the hero s cycle have really been the foundation that all modern mythological media have been built on. If you applied the hero s cycle and the main archetypes typically used in myth to Star Wars, Harry Potter, the Lord of the Rings, you would see similar results as shown by comparing these to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These movies all have a very similar structure but it is often the lessons that the story focuses in on that set the movies apart. The Harry Potter books and movies, for example, placed a much larger emphasis on the problems facing a typical school child, than really any movie series had before. This is what made it unique. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, in a similar fashion, has focused on teaching several lessons to the audiences that watch these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am now 12 years of age and my hair has grown to be very long and beautiful. The sorceress uses my hair as a rope for her to get up into a tower that she has locked me in. I can see your hut from the tippy top of my tower and you seem to be doing well. I always wonder to myself, though, how were my parents so easily able to give me up? I understand that the sorceress has powers that are evil beyond belief, but you couldn t have tried to fight a bit more to keep your child? • 4. The Athenian Jury In The Apology Depicting the justification between the Athenian jury against the father of philosophy, the Apology exhibits Plato s recollection and interpretation of the notorious trial of Socrates. Accused of refusing to worship the gods recognized by the Athenian state, corrupting the youth, and informally addressing himself throughout the trial, Socratespresents himself as a villain or an enemy to the Athenian society and jury. Even though Socrates could have solicited pity towards the jury by strengthening his defense with emotional appeal, Socrates refusal to appease the jury in the Apology justly transcends the moral values of the Athenian jury and the modern human. Socrates emphasis on preserving the impartiality of the trial provides support for Socrates refusal to appease the jury. Given the opportunity to show pathos and ethos appeal the importance of his family and friends Socrates restrains himself from instigating any bias into the trial, in order to keep the trial unprejudiced. Showing emotions conceivably cloud the jury s judgment and influence its decisions to support... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates views death like sleep in which the sleeper does not even dream at all and like a trip from here to another place that all of the dead do indeed exist in another place (Cooper 35). Despite Socrates fatherly love for his sons, he self assuredly requests his friends to look after sons hoping the truth of pursuing goodness above money and earthly may be passed on to his children. Socrates optimistic views on death and his sons overshadow any limitations for the spread of his philosophical ideas, revealing the gravity of the truth in Socrates ... • 5. Dumbest Generation Essay There have been many claims that Generation Y, or millennials, are the dumbest generation to have lived. However, millennials, while they don t hold extensive knowledge, know where to get the information needed and can access the information they need for research quicker than past generations due to search engines. Millennials also can change their tone to match their audience generally better than past generations as well. Does this mean they can be considered the smartest generation? Possibly. Millennials today seem to care more about where to get the information they need rather than retaining it. For example, they know they can access the Google search engine. This shows that, according to Begley (Source 2), Gen Y s ignorance of facts reflect not dumbness, but choice. This lack of knowledge does not prove that millennials are dumb, but that they have access to a lot of information if they choose to use their sources, and since this information is readily available, they do not have to necessarily retain facts. Also, contrary to some beliefs, the access to search engines don t make the generation dumb, but it rather changes the way they do... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. The Impact Of Augustine s Confessions When considering all the pieces I read during English 104, Augustine s Confessions made the biggest impact on me because of his explanation of the nature of sin, why we deviate from God s will, and how God tirelessly pursues His children so that they might be saved. Augustine writes that anything contrary to Gods will is sin. There exists a hierarchy of goods: God is at the top, with all of goods residing beneath. When humans pursue any other good before God s glory, they reject the necessity of Christ s redemptive sacrifice. This disordered love of earthly things only digresses into perpetual sin. Augustine equates sin to a soul filled with ulcers that man scratches with the pleasures of the world that will never fully satisfy the itch. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

American Terrorism Environment Style Analysis Terrorism, a very prevalent topic in today s society can be viewed in many different sectors, depending on the actions taken by terrorist organizations. Under a valid argument, of a conditional argument (modus ponens), it can be concluded that, If ALEC conducted laws against eco terrorism, then there will be a decrease of crimes. • 9. Time Essay Time Time is defined as a measured or measurable period, a continuum that lacks spatial dimensions. This broad definition lacks the simple explanation that humans are searching for. There are many scientists, philosophers, and thinkers who have tried to put time into understanding terms. The aspects of time that we can understand are only based on what we can perceive, observe, and calculate. Every day we look at our watches or clocks. We plan our day around different times of the day. Time tells us when to eat, when to sleep, and how long to do things for. If time were based on these simple terms, then this mysterious enigma would not be in debate. There are the issues of space and time; what is the relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When space and the universe began, the existence of time also began. This theory is well known as the Big Bang Theory. About fifteen billion years ago, the universe was comprised of very hot compressed gas, as a fireball. This is contrary to the idea of the universe beginning as a lump of matter somewhere in the void of space. Matter was created as a result of the Big Bang. Space and time was also created. So, with these ideas, time had a beginning. Looking at it a different way, in the early universe, the normal concept of time is uncertain. Our accepted perceptions, and calculations of time can t be explained all the way back to the Big Bang. There is no way to define time in that era. This is another way that time has a beginning; as far back as we can calculate. Space time began at the same time. According to Hawking, you can t look at the universe using general relativity without finding a big bang or something similar to that at the very beginning. So what does time mean to people now? Time is different as you go through time zones. Everyone has their own perception of time. Nobody is ever on the same schedule, doing things exactly like another person. Even to go as far as other galaxies and planets, time cannot be existing on the same terms. In short, time is not absolute. In the space time continuum, space bends whenever there is a mass. • 11. What Are The Roles Of English Language Introduction The term language describes any body of sounds, words, symbols or gestures used by specific groups of people to communicate with each other (Language, n. d.). There are many types of languages including speech, body language, sign language, and written languages such as mathematics, music and symbols. Language has many functions that are determined by the mode in which they are presented. The way language is conveyed can alter the intended meaning or context for example a difference in tone can change a comment from complimentary to sarcastic. Language is continuously evolving. An example of this is the short, abbreviated style we now use to communicate digitally. One tiny picture called an emoji can now convey our feelings. Emojis are also universal, serving as a communication tool to bridge the gap between different languages. Other examples of language evolving are the several new forms of English that have emerged such as Aboriginal English, American English and East Asian English. Language plays many roles in our lives as language is both a social tool and an information tool (Hayes Gee, 2011, p.24). Language is a powerful means of communication, learning and self expression; and contributes substantially to our sense of identity, wellbeing and belonging. Children predominantly learn language from observing and interacting with adults. The manner in which adults use language and interact with children, determines how children learn to use language ... • 12. Example Of Assimilation In America Assimilation in America In American society, there are multiple cultures and races exist. Since immigrants bring the various cultures to America, Americans face a highly controversial problem. Some of the Americans believe all of the ethnic groups assimilate into a common culture can help Americans distinctly identify themselves. Others argue that ethnic groups should not abandon their cultural heritages background. As a result, merging different cultures into one new culturewill cause America lose its cultural diversity which is one significant charm of this country. On the contrary, if every ethnic group only focuses on building their own community and resists communicate with others, it will aggravate the separation of a nation. Although people often argue about these two ways which one is more appropriate to Americans, I think Richard Rodriguez s idea is more realistic in nowadays American society. Rodriguez resists the idea of the melting pot, and believes that assimilation is inevitable and reciprocal. In the essay Does America Still Exist?, Rodriguez explains his thought to us through his experiences. First, Rodriguez thinks the old metaphor of a melting pot is no longer accepted by Americans. He indicates that As much as the country is joined in a common culture, however, Americans are reluctant to celebrate the process of assimilation. We pledge allegiance to diversity. • 13. My Antonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, And Roselily By Willa Cather The most poignant struggle within female literature is, almost always, the relationship that women have with power. It presents itself in many forms through a relationship, within the workplace, or even self imposed, women are always juxtaposed against the structure of power for one reason or another. However, despite the uplifting narrative development that generally occurs within these stories, the concern about powerstruggle is never truly resolved the problem remains. Through My ГЃntonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, and Roselily , the reader can see that the influence of power and its negative and toxic consequences proves fatal within class, race, and gender boundaries. Willa Cather s My ГЃntonia displays the gender focused concern about power within the female character s life. The narrator, Jim Burden, is immediately introduced to the reader as a man who sees the world through rose colored glasses. That is, he s got a romantic disposition on life and sees things the way he wants to see them, rather than the way they actually are. The most complicated area that concerns Jim, though, is his relationship with ГЃntonia. Throughout the novel, there s a clear longing for her that Jim seems to exude he never really attempts to kindle a romantic relationship with her, but she s a highly romanticized figure in his eyes and someone who he holds very dear. Plaque building up in the arteries, also called atherosclerosis, is mainly affected by one s diet, specifically in the ingestion of lipids. Diabetes is a risk for CHD because it promotes high glucose levels in blood cells. I felt, at times, my study was slightly ambitious, allowing my focus to switch between challenge and feedback far too often. It is possible, now I have concluded my initial study, to further develop what the pupils do in class and not focus on what I do outside of the class, as I believe this has had a bigger impact on pupils development. My general one size fits all approach to challenge activities is an obvious flaw, with all pupils having different abilities, approaches and limitations to their own learning. Despite being given ownership for their own learning, it is impossible for all pupils to make progress at the same rate and this was indicated through a good attitude to learning, but poor quality of work. The developing growth mindset of pupils almost compensated for their lack of ability to adapt the necessary skills to complete what had been asked of them. As identified by Bush (2017), pupils need to be equip with multiple strategies in order for them to fall back on if their first strategy fails them. In light of this, in any future study, I would like to consider how I can spend time connecting ideas, from previous lessons. Many of the pupils in this study struggled the clear links between previous learning, unable to make the necessary connections to reach the higher order thinking. Much of the skills needed within BTEC Health and Social Care asked them to reflect on previous learning (in the form of different units) in order for them to progress successfully. However, both stories have similarities, one being the violent nature of the ghosts. These stories do have differences though, such as the form that these ghosts choose to take. Throughout the entire ghost story, the fox spirit wants nothing more than to kill the men she sleeps with. In this essay I will attempt to show that the philosopher, RenГЁ Descartes Cogito Argument successfully proves the Evil Demon Argument to be unsound. By an analysis of the structure of the arguments and what they prove, I will show the evil demon argument to be unsound. An argument is unsound when the premises as false and the argument is invalid. This analysis of both structure and content will eventuate in objections on the aforementioned categories. To take any of Descartes arguments in consideration I have to understand why he started his meditations in order to prove Gods existence and to gain clear and distinct knowledge. At the same time of his first meditation he was engaged in a raging war within Europe and lost some his close family members (Smith, K., 2014), he too was at risk of death all because of certain religious beliefs. It is easy to understand that he wrote all of his meditations in order for himself to be sure of dying for what he believed in. Descartes first meditation works in three stages: at first he tries to show that he does not have any empirical knowledge, meaning he does not have any knowledge based on his senses since he proved that his senses could possibly be deceiving him. He then says that it does not rule out his a priori knowledge which is knowledge that does not require observation or experience but it is rather mathematical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sharing the same philosophy of Henri Bergeson, who believed evolutionary process (nature) and artist creativity (art) come from the same origin. War brought about conformity and closed minded views on every aspect of life. During this time significant ruler s such as Hitler and Stalin influenced every aspect of life and death for the world. Many artists revolted against the idealism of the time. Moore and Hepworth began the journey and sought refuge and peaceful surroundings of St. Ives to start their own artist group which held (in the beginning) nineteen different artists with the same beliefs and expressions. Moore felt that every material has its own individual qualities. (728 Wadsworth) His work consisted of large pieces that were rounded in shape and even though they were not formed in the ideal human form was still visible. Hepworth s artwork was similar she took ordinary pieces of wood and opened them to new dynamics and shapes appealing to the eye. Methodology This section contains the mathematical background and stepwise procedure for EnKF algorithm, KL expansion and ANN based proxy model. Integration of proxy model with EnKF algorithms for time efficient assisted history matching is also explained in this section. Ensemble Kalman Filter Algorithm EnKF is a Monte Carlo data assimilation method, which has gained popularity over recent years for assisted history matching due to its ability to include available observations sequentially in time. Aanonsen et al. (2009) reviewed the application of EnKF in reservoir engineering for estimation of reservoir parameters. EnKF procedure utilizes an ensemble of model states (e.g. realizations of reservoir properties such as porosity and permeability) to estimate the covariance matrices used in model updating process. Initial ensemble is generated based on the prior knowledge of the reservoir derived from various sources as well logs, core and seismic analysis. In general, simulation techniques such as Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS) and Sequential Indicator Simulation (SIS) are used to generate multiple realizations. These realizations are consistent with the initial state of the reservoir. In the next step, all the reservoir models in ensemble are forwarded typically using the numerical reservoir simulation. Mean and covariance of predicted model states is calculated and used in turn to calculate Kalman gain. Next, in the update (or analysis) step, each geological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was no actual human life being presented in front of a jury or were there any emotions being presented. The emotions would be high in the court room and the jury would actually be having the ability to be sending the defendant to jail as well as seeing the defendant have real live emotions. Being in a courtroom would also mean the jury would be listening to what the defendant has to say. This was a fake study and just an experimental study to see how people would react to being in ... The workers were issued envelopes containing Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering drawings. a)Ralph observed certain inconsistencies between the two sets of drawings. b)The two departments that were responsible for producing the drawings do not communicate with each other. The Engineering department does not design for manufacturing. It seems that efficiency and costs are not considered in the design phase. 2) By buying lumber cut to length he would have cut production time, waste, labor and costs related with tooling. A worker has to go to the computer each time an operation is completed, and Joe s son wastes his time recording mostly useless data. Screws are counted and delivered in marked bags, scrap wood is recorded, etc. The plan is rigid and is not focused on achieving a minimum but on not exceeding a maximum deadline. The amount of work in progress is high and the planning does not factor that in. In this particular case, a mistake at the beginning, when there is little work in progress, may not have much of an impact or no impact at all because of the generous buffers. A mistake later, when the amount of work in progress is high, may delay the work more than the buffers can compensate for. a)Ralph suggests building only one section at a time cellular manufacturing. In this case the operation becomes so small that the planning and control system designed by Joe becomes redundant. b)The amount of work in progress is minimized. Fewer tools are needed. The parts do not have to travel between the work stations. The control systems becomes redundant, everything takes place in the garage. 5. Joe does not have an incentive system. Professional ethic codes designate the highest expectations of professional implications and describe the potential situations that we can face in practice. Instead of these great efforts, one booklet cannot include all we need when we encounter an ethical dilemma. Particularly, when the law and ethics code conflicts, ethical decision making become highly critical and problematic. According to me, one of the most challenging ethical dilemmas occurs while working with a minor client who demands for keeping her/his information confidential. As far as I concern, this might not be uncommon in the counseling field and ethical decision making does not seem to be easy. Besides the professional ethical codes, counselors have to know laws and consider the best interest of the client. As a general rule, parents and legal guardians are responsible for and have a right to be informed about their children until these children reach the age of eighteen. Although there are some exceptions, this is the general rule in the US and most of the countries around the world. Certainly, this is a reasonable rule especially if parents and legal guardians are supportive and cooperative with the therapist. ACA Code of ethics (2014) dealt with this issue with the codes of ... • 45. The Skin We Seek Analysis The Visions and Ciphers passage of The Skin We Ink by David Kirkland tells a story of literacy as it relates to a black male. Similarly, Ta Nehisi Coates excerpt from his novel Between the World and Me records his own literacy experience as a black male. Delving deeper than their surface similarities of black male literacy, these two writings also explore the reason for literacy in their subjects lives. According to Kirkland there is an assumptions of black males lack of literacy [that] relates to assumptions of their lack of humanity because literacy is a human issue, and by denying literacy, one also denies a person s humanity . Kirkland is trying to assert that an interpretation of literature/literacy that boosts up African Americans and gives them credibility as intelligent beings is constantly dismissed simply because those in power (Caucasian Americans) do not want to give any sort of... The sometimes directly contradictory ideas of these leaders forced him to begin a deeper exploration that led Coates to gain an appreciation of the differences while still respecting and considering the varied viewpoints. Coates journey ultimately led him away from the educational system and then straight back to it. From this back and forth came about Coates own definition of literacy: a means of understanding the world around you. For Coates, literacy was a means to an end. • 46. Characteristics Of A Servant Leader Title of the Paper in Twelve Words or Less Servant leadership is a unique style of management that ensures the needs of employees are met even if it means the leader has to make personal sacrifices. The idea is that by serving others they will in turn not only do the bare minimum required for their occupation but rather put forth the extra effort because they respect the authority of their manager. This method of managementis absolutely applicable in the field of nursing for anyone because it makes everyone accountable for their own actions, not just the charge nurses or managers of a unit. This ties into aligning what people say with their actions. A leader may say their employees are the biggest asset to the company but the actions of that leader may say something different (88). One study found using love in leadership can also be positive when working with children (LOVE). In early childhood, love based leadership could develop an environment where children are able to express their full abilities; a key factor to develop this type of environment is to envision things form the child s perspective (LOVE). This method should also be adopted in the hospitals so healthcare providers are better able to meet the needs of their patient by placing themselves in the patient s perspective. The third characteristic for servant leadership is being a humble leader. When people think of characteristics of a leader today, being humble is usually not one that comes to mind. Rather, leaders may be described as being full of themselves, or egotistical (110). If a leader removes the pretenses of knowing everything and being powerful, employees will see their leaders as being more authentic (111). As organizations become more and more complex it is impossible for any one person to be an expert in all the different sectors, therefore leaders should humble themselves by admitting they are not all knowing and should use the different traits, talents, knowledge, and contributions of the followers around them to cultivate a ... The Raiders returned back to Oakland and the Rams relocated to St. Louis. Fortunately for football fans in Los Angeles, the Rams returned back to LA this year. They played their first preseason gamein LA on Saturday and beat the Dallas Cowboys by 4 points in a 28 24 comeback finish. The Rams played mediocrely, but finished strong especially with surprisingly good QB, Sean Mannion who wasn t even expected to get a role in the QB position this year. Sean Mannion went 18/25 for 147 yards and 3 TD with 1 INT. Case Keenum, the presumptive regular season starter did go 6/7 for 58 yards and no TD or INT and a RTG of 101.2. Case Keenum played well for the time he was in, but only got 7 attempts in, so it is hard to say what his true value is at this point. Vance brings the culture surrounding the community and the government s effect on the people s situation down to a level even the strictest Republican or Democrat can empathize with the situation. The issue surrounding low income families is not that the government doesn t provide enough assistance, but that the culture does not promote the same success potential as the wealthy culture does. The assistance provided to these communities needs to be restructured to help build up the community not just put a band aid on the situation. He talks about resilient children able to prosper in low income environments because they have the support of a loving adult. The community has to step up by creating an environment that encourages success, whether that be in a trade or by going to college. Vance is a prime example of how his community, not the government, propelled him out of poverty. Vance was on path to continue in the cycle his mother had created. She bounced from man to man, was arrested and in rehab multiple times, and was angry most of the time. Vance s grandparents pushed him to get through school with good grades. He then went into the marines, where he learned to get out of his community s sense of learned helplessness. He then worked his way through Ohio State and Yale law school, while meeting his beautiful wife. He overcame several occasions that his background could have prevented him from succeeding in his profession.
