The document summarizes the experience and qualifications of an architect. It details that he has 20 years of experience managing a variety of projects from £150K to £3.2M. As Associate Director at an award-winning firm, his role is to promote innovation in construction techniques. The firm has won several RIBA awards. Greenspace Architects is an eco-architectural practice that creates high-quality, sustainable architecture. They completed a chapel conversion project in North Wales that transformed a deconsecrated chapel into a home and workspace while respecting its original function and adding contemporary innovations. Through continuous design conversations, they achieved the clients' goal of doing something different by augmenting the historical character with bold additions and improvements like removing a wall to open up the building, adding roof lights and dormers, and installing an efficient heating system.
DJC Top Projects 2015 - Breathe Building Project Description - FinalChris Humphries
The document describes the renovation of a former general contractor's office into The Breathe Building, featuring a yoga studio, wellness center, and kitchen. Two existing buildings on the site were retrofitted and a new building was constructed. The renovation achieved high sustainability and energy efficiency standards by reusing salvaged materials, installing solar panels, and utilizing green building techniques and materials. The project faced budget and scheduling challenges due to evolving tenant requirements but was completed through collaborative efforts.
The document summarizes the renovation of a 2,200 square foot duplex penthouse in Tribeca, Manhattan. The renovation transformed the space into a modern two bedroom, two bathroom loft apartment while maintaining historic details. Major renovations included encasing structural columns in steel, adding a fireplace, creating an 18-foot ceiling with a mezzanine level, and installing a new balcony and MEP systems. The general contractor, X-ACT Contracting Corporation, completed the 12-month gut renovation in 2014.
The document describes four building projects completed by Daniel Allen between 2005-2008. It includes the construction of a new courtyard bar and extensions to an existing conference centre in Maidstone. A second project was a private straw bale extension with a turf roof. Two further projects were the construction of eco-friendly social housing in Wallington, Surrey, with one being two model homes and another being five semi-detached homes, both achieving the highest sustainability rating.
In this portfolio you will find examples of projects that I have done from bathroom renovations, garden landscaping and spa and wellness among other home renovation projects.

Ms. Merritt wants to build her dream house on land she owns along Lake Anna in Virginia. She has a $399,999 budget for design and construction. The project will use a design-build delivery system. Two design options are considered: a historic style house with a gazebo for Ms. Merritt and her mother, or a larger modern home with scenic views for Ms. Merritt, her mother, and a potential husband. Setback requirements and restrictions related to well water and sewage also factor into the design process. Lessons learned indicate involving a landscape architect earlier could have mitigated cost overruns.

Big data refers to large and complex datasets that are difficult to process using traditional database management tools. It is characterized by high volume, velocity, and variety of both structured and unstructured data. The volume of data being created is growing exponentially - from 2003 until now, the amount of data created each day has increased from 5 billion gigabytes to the same amount being created every 10 minutes. Big data tools are used by companies like eBay, Amazon, and Walmart to handle high volumes of customer transactions and queries, with some companies storing petabytes or more of data. Common big data software includes Hadoop, Spark, and Splunk, while real-world examples demonstrate big data's use in fields like healthcare, retail, and social

The document discusses the evolution of social business strategies in companies through six distinct stages of maturity. It conducted interviews and a survey of executives to develop a social business maturity matrix showing how strategies typically progress from external-focused planning to having social fully converged into business operations. The key findings are that most social strategies are not clearly linked to business goals and lack organizational alignment and support for execution. Only 34% of surveyed companies felt their strategy was connected to outcomes. Success requires top executive alignment, coordination of disparate efforts, and focusing social technologies on achieving business goals over time.

This document summarizes a post-tsunami reconstruction project in Sri Lanka conducted by Practical Action. The project built 175 houses using cost-effective and environmentally friendly technologies. It trained nearly 1,000 construction workers. A follow-up study 5 years later found that while over 60% of residents were satisfied, issues included houses becoming too hot, incomplete plastering, and construction defects. The technologies used in the project were not widely adopted beyond it and the training did not significantly improve livelihoods of workers. Lessons included using more familiar designs and construction methods and improving quality control.
J.G. Molloy has been in the construction business for over 55 years, originally starting as a plastering subcontractor. Over the decades, the company has diversified and taken on a variety of projects, from small residential extensions to larger commercial and public works. Some of their recent projects in the last 3-5 years include building a new clubhouse for a running club, extending a nursing home to add more bedrooms, and constructing starter homes as part of a new housing development. The company prides itself on quality workmanship and has completed many repeat projects for satisfied clients.

A one day symposium on zero/low carbon sustainable homes took place at The University of Nottingham on the 24th October, 2012. The event offered professionals within the construction industry a unique opportunity to gain added and significant insight into the innovations, policies and legislation which are driving the construction of zero/low carbon energy efficient homes both here in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. It explored solutions to sustainability issues “beyond” the zero carbon agenda. BZCH followed on from the successful ‘Towards Zero Carbon Housing’ symposium the University hosted in 2007. This event is part of the Europe Wide Ten Act10n project which is supported by the European Commission Intelligent Energy Europe.

The document discusses the need to retrofit existing buildings to reduce demand for non-renewable resources. It then describes a "Plant Room" project that provides amenities like hot water, food growing space, and more to apartment residents while reducing energy and water usage. The project involves constructing two portable plant rooms - one exhibit unit and one for occupancy testing - to demonstrate sustainable building technologies and drive further development of the plant room concept. It requests help from local councils to promote the project and make the permitting process smoother given the experimental nature of the sustainable design.
The document summarizes the ambitious project of Kevin McCabe to build Dingle Dell, which is being called Europe's most significant cob building. McCabe aims to build a 10,000 square foot family home using low-impact materials like cob to achieve high energy efficiency standards. The multi-year project has faced challenges from weather delays and funding issues, but McCabe's expertise and innovative use of materials like cob pillars is pushing design boundaries to create a showcase for sustainable architecture.
