3. Research
• There were many different strengths and weakness's for my research
power point. One strength for my research power point is that managed
to talk about all the necessary aspects for my existing products such as
talking about the location, props and camera angles. This helped me when
completing my final product because I now knew which was going to be
the best angle for work, it also make me realise the understanding of how
magazines should look and what aspects should be include to get me
maximum marks. One weakness for my product research is that I did no
include much a variation between each product, for example I included
two BMX magazines and one skiing magazine, this didn’t give me a lot of
inspiration when I started to design my magazine. If I was to improve this I
would have added in maybe a skateboarding magazine, or some different
type of magazine. This would have given me more inspiration when
designing my final product and would have finished with a higher quality
magazine.
4. Planning
• In my planning, one strength for my work is that when I was coming up for
idea for my decided magazine, my mind map included a lot of information
which was very detailed includes information such as the backgrounds,
colours and magazine names. The planning which I did on this mind map
has helped me in many ways when completing my final product. This is
because when I was working on the designing process I could quickly
check back to this power point and look at the information I needed to
look at and then apply it to my work.
• In my planning there is one weakness, this weakness is that I did include
as many images as I would have liked to add in to my mood board, this is
because I ran out of time and had to quickly collect a collection of images.
• If I was to improve my work I would have spent a lot more time on
collecting images, this would have aloud me to collect a better range of
picture which would have helped me better when completing my final
design.
5. Time Management
• I managed most of my timing correctly, however when I came to designing
my magazine I did not have enough time as I needed to complete the full
magazine including making the front cover and the double page spread. If
I was to have had more time when completing my project I would have
spent time on producing my content for my double page spread. I will
have also spent longer when I was creating the individual objects in my
magazine such as designing the font cover. I think that this would have
made magazine look a lot more professional and be better than the
competitor magazines. With my additional time which I have I was able to
add more detailed to my product experiments, this has helped me when
finishing my design work because I could quickly look back to this power
point and add in the good details for the product experiments and delete
the bad points which I found in my product experiments.
6. Technical Qualities
There are many different
similarities and differences.
One similarity between
both my magazine front
cover and the professional
magazine front cover is
that we both have included
key aspects to make the
magazine such as the
barcode, headlines etc.
Also both of the magazine
include a sports person
performing a trick in there
chosen sport.
One difference between my magazine front cover and the professional front cover is that
there is totally different colours have been used, such as on my magazine front cover I have
commonly used a range of blue colours and I used the bright red from the skiers trousers for
the font colour. Unlike my front cover the professional magazine front cover uses mainly dull
colours such as browns and dark greens, however the colours used for the magazine logo and
main story are light which stand out on the dark background.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
I personally think
that my does look
good in many
different aspects.
One aspect which I
think my magazine
looks good is
because I have
managed to join
together colours on
my front cover and
double page spread.
One strength about my work is that the colours of my double page spread match together,
for example the skate boarder is wearing black and dark coloured clothes so for my
columns I changed the background colour the black to match the skate boarder with the
writing , in a whole I think that doing this has brought my double page spread together to
make it look more professional. One weakness for my double page spread is that I did no
write a lot, I think that I could wrote more about action sequenced photography, such as
when it was first invented.
8. Audience Appeal
I think I have personally
met the likings of my
target audience. I have
done this by including
content which will
appeal to all of my
audience such as young
teen ager and adults
aged 15+ find extreme
sports exciting to look
at because they find
them nerve racking.
For my magazine double page spread to appeal to my audience I chose not include a lot
of writing and to include a big image which is interesting to look at. I also chose to place
the text away from the main aspects of the image. I did this so that the younger aged
people can look at all aspects of the image.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– I like that on your double page spread all the
colours used match together and all ties the image
together.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Try to include more information on the double
page spread.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the types of sports you have interrupted into
your work, such as the skier on the front cover
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– You could of tried to include maybe a few more
images instead of just the background image.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like how much have made it look like a
professional magazine including all the important
elements needed for a magazine.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– You should try to include more than just the one
main story on the front cover.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I agree that on my double page spread, all the matching colours tie
together the whole page, this makes the page professional and to a
high quality. I also agree that have used all the necessary elements
needed to make a magazine. I also agree that I should add in some
elements into my double page spread and front cover. For the double
page spread I should include more writing explaining on how to edit
action sequenced photos in Photoshop. I also think thatt I should
include maybe one more key top story for the front cover.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– I don’t agree that I should add in more images into my double page
spread. This is because my double page spread includes matching
colours in the font and back ground image. This makes the look very
high quality and give my magazine that professional look.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
• If I was to make any changes to my work I would
start by the magazine front cover logo slightly. I
would change the logo by changing the
background colour for it and I would have also
altered the lay out of my front cover, I would have
done this by moving around text. Such as the text
quoting the skiers name would be move to
underneath the skier. I would also include more
magazine like components. These components
consist of multiple top story's featured in the
magazine.
