3. Research
Whilst researching I think I could've investigated a wider range of songs
and style of songs/music videos. I think watching a few more videos
would've influenced me and would've maybe helped me have some more
ideas on what videos I could've produced. By spending more time
watching current music videos from different genres I believe I would have
been able to do this and potentially I would've had more/better ideas for
my music video production.
4. Planning
I think my planning went well, and I was able to plan a really interesting
video which I think would've worked out really well and made an
impressive video which would have appealed to the target audience and
been interesting and engaging. In terms of the ideas which I had, I don't
think they were the greatest and I could've definitely thought of some
better alternatives. I was just really stuck for ideas and spent far too long
trying to brainstorm and get some sort of idea on the page.
5. Time Management
I don't really believe I managed my time to the best of my ability, I feel I
left the filming too late and it was really an incident, such as what
happened, waiting to happen. If I had to do this again, I would definitely
prioritise the filming of the video over completing the PowerPoints, and if
it got to the point where I was struggling for time to film I should've
adapted the idea which would take up less time and would be less
advanced.
6. Technical Qualities - camera
In terms of technical qualities of my final video there pretty much are
none, it’s a really awful video and I'm far from proud to be handing it in
as my final production for this task. This is because of technical issues,
which was ultimately my own fault.
From the footage I recorded at home, before I found the SD card didn't
want to work (I checked the footage just after I filmed it), I think I may
require a third light or improve the positioning of the two softboxes I
have because I found when the greenscreen was lit perfectly and there
were absolutely no shadows, I had a dark region in the middle of my
face, covering my nose and eyes, which looked a little bit ridiculous. So
if I was to try this again I would definitely consider putting another
light maybe above the camera or coming from that general direction
to remove this issue, unfortunately I have no video evidence of this
point however.
7. Technical Qualities – editing/post
Pretty much the only technique I was able to implement in post was
cutting to the beat, I managed to edit all of the cuts to be on beats in
the song or on noticeable words in areas there aren't many beats to
cut to.
In post I also did some slight color correction (I don't like doing heavy
color correction to the point it looks unrealistic) as I thought the
camera I borrowed from college shot a very flat image which didn't
really have much color or defined shadows. I had no problem doing
this because I have been shooting (with my camera at home) a very flat
color profile so I can experiment with color correction techniques and
styles.
8. Aesthetic Qualities
Ultimately I think the video looks extremely poor, however I did my best at color
correction and attempted to make the most of the situation I was in. In terms of
what I have managed to actually include in the video, there are some pans, low
angle shots on objects which suggests the viewer is superior to them and in a
couple of shots I have tried to pull the focus in (this was slightly more unsuccessful
than I was hoping)
9. Audience Appeal
The final video I managed to produce really has absolutely no audience appeal and
I honestly think an audience would be very bored and would've skipped onto the
next video before the first chorus. However, this was done as a last resort and the
planned idea I think would've appealed to the audience because it’s a different
style to what Eminem usually uses, despite including most of the stereotypical
features and I think would've been interesting to see if it worked and gave an
impressive look.
16. Action Plan for future development
I would definitely spend more time thinking of ideas for the video. I
would have definitely recorded my video earlier in the rotation to
avoid a similar situation what happened.
