3. Research
I had a very specific concept that I wanted to achieve. Since it
was so specific, there were only a few other pieces of media
similar to what I wanted my work to compare to. This meant that
I had to be more precise with my research for each of these
research sections as I couldn’t bulk it out with many existing
products similar to the one I was planning on making. I think I
could have found 1 or maybe 2 more similar projects as this
would have meant that I wouldn’t have needed to go into as
much detail for the couple of related products I chose to base my
project on.
4. Planning
I think I had quite strong planning as I had a clear idea at what I
wanted to create. I had ideas for the different branches of the
‘choose your own adventure’ but I never wrote them down until
after I had filmed the content. I had ideas for multiple more
branches including ones to do with watching a movie, doing
some crocheting and going out into town. For my photography
based part of this project, I believe I planned this better even
though this was a last minute decision to add into my project. I
had the fonts and colour schemes planned out for the
Photoshop area of this project so I had a clear idea of how I
wanted it to look like. But overall, I think that my planning went
well for this project.
5. Time Management
Even though I had a few issues that cut my recording time
basically in half, I feel like I had an okay time management. Issues
came up on the times when I had scheduled to film, including
the GoPro not working for the first week of the two I had
scheduled for filming on. This meant that I had less time to film,
but I did use this time to plan even more for this project and
secure my ideas in so I knew what I would do when I could film.
If this issue hadn't have occurred, I would have been able to film
more content for the project so I would have more content to
work with. Even with the content I filmed, I had to actually cut
down the content I had filmed before so even if I had filmed
extra content, I wouldn’t have been able to add it as I would
have hit the time limit for this project.
6. Technical Qualities
Like other similar existing products, I
gave the physical option of choice. I could
have given the illusion of choice to make
it look like there was choice but I chose it
to have actual choices. This is so I could
also use my knowledge of how YouTube
works to have the options on the screen.
As a failsafe, I also put the video links in
the description as some devices have the
window popups disabled as this way,
they can still access the needed videos to
follow the choices along.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
Similar to the other existing products
that I had researched and based my
project around, I had the artistic
choice to make my project in a first
person point of view. This was to
place the person watching in the
shoes of the main character as you
are seeing what they see. It is also a
different shot compared to the most
common type of filming, third person
shots. This also got me to use a new
piece of equipment, broadening my
knowledge of different cameras/
filming equipments.
8. Audience Appeal
My target audience for this project was
teens aged 16-19. There was no specific
gender in mind for this but one group
who I wanted this to be for was those
with possible mental health/disorders as
this project was based around how
someone with ADHD goes through a day
and how it can affect little aspects of a
persons life. Also, the age range 16-19 is
around the time when people make big
choices in their life so having a project
related to making choices gets them to
make small choices in everyday life but
gets them to actively think they are
making a choice.
10. Feedback 1 - Matt
• What did you like about the product?
- Camera work is quite nice, showing it from the first person is a good idea.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
- Maybe make it slightly longer
- Add some colour correction?
- Try to record in a higher resolution
11. Feedback 2 - Charlie
• What did you like about the product?
- The first person perspective was quite nice
- It was an interesting idea to have a choice sequence
- Blink effect was visually appealing
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
- The dialogue seems a bit random and I can not understand what is
supposed to be happening. Maybe try writing your script/presenting it
in a way that is easier for the audience to understand.
- Maybe try adding some colour correction.
- Maybe try adding some other video graphics or video/audio effects.
- Not very many choices, they all seem to end up to the same video and
the are only 3. Maybe try making shorter videos with more choice next
time, as that seems to be the concept
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
- I liked the concept, to me it feels like an inner dialogue commentary
of someone's morning routine which is a cool idea in my opinion.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
- I didn’t see any visual or audio editing (apart from the voice), so I
think that you could have added some sound effects or visual
effects to make it more exciting.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– I do agree that the video did seem a bit plain with limited
effects. I do also feel like I could have colour corrected some
things to make it look more pleasing.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
– Yes my dialogue was random but I chose this to emphasise the
theme of ADHD in the videos as it shows the thought process
behind some of our thoughts.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
After looking at the feedback I have gotten for how my project
currently looks, I would change a few things if I had some more time
to work on this.
First of all, I would fully script out what I was going to say, as I did
this without a script. It would have been very helpful as my GoPro
audio didn’t record and I had to re-record it, guessing at what I had
said before so it would have been much easier and quicker to
complete it if I had.
Also, I would have colour corrected my videos for it to look more
aesthetically pleasing as the colours do seem washed out. The
GoPro video quality isn’t the best so I would have also found a
better quality camera to record it onto.
