World Is Too Much With USarknotes
What Becomes of Our Elegies?
William Wordsworth s poem The World is too Much with Us begins with a pessimistic, yet chillingly
accurate insight: The world is too much with us; late and soon, Getting and Spending, we lay waste
our powers (1 2). Wordsworth asks whether progress was just a convenient excuse for the sacrifices
mankind made during the Industrial Revolution. Alexander Pope, however, in his poem An Essay on
Man, claims that although humans inevitably err, they still redeem themselves through trial and error,
as indicated by contemporary examples. Therefore, under Pope s philosophy, The World is too Much
with Us symbolizes the lesson learned through human reasoning on human errors that characterized
the Industrial Revolution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, the myopic drive for technology and material wealth had left humanity deprived of its soul.
The industrial empire extorted what it could from nature. According to World Resources Institute, the
planet has lost 80 percent of its forest cover to deforestation, and the number continues to increase.
With the accumulation of wealth, Mammonism and attendant moral problems ensued. In Korea, as
individuals were price tagged based on their economic productivity, the society stigmatized the elderly
for their apparent uselessness. As some chose suicide over social isolation, suicide rate of the elderly
increased twofold over the period of ten year, indicating the loss of morality. Still, like Wordsworth,
those critical of the status quo advocate social reform. For instance, to counter deforestation, the UN
Forum on Forests, is actively promoting reforestation by hosting European Forestry Commissions and
World Forestry Congresses. There also are signs of moral redemption. In Korea, approximately ten
thousand jobs for the elderly are being produced every year to forestall their social exclusion. Such
precedents are enough to prove that the inherent nature of humanity is to err and

Chapter 1
Introduction
Having spent the past Fifteen years coaching women s volleyball, I have witnessed many performance
issues that come with a lack of nutrition from female athletes as well as my daughters. I am a Head
coach for a small college in Merced California. It is located in the central valley where there are many
farming communities. I am the head women s volleyball coach and as well as the strength and
conditioning coach for my athletes. I am in my fourth year here and started the program from the
ground.
The level that I coach is NAIA and types of players that I recruited are scholarship players but at a mid
level talent. We are a small budget team trying to grow to the NCAA DII level. My team is diverse
ranging from multiple ethnic backgrounds. They all have very different eating habits that can cause
them to perform at very different levels. The other concern is having half of the team living off
campus and the other half on campus which can hurt by having food or not having food to eat healthy
enough. The benefit of adequate nutrition contributing to successful athletic performance is well
known, but not completely understood and applied among athletes. The purpose of this study was to
assess nutrient intakes, and dietary habits

The Differences in Josephine and Mrs. Mallard of Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour
Free! Body and soul free! , Mrs. Mallard kept whispering. One person s ultimate freedom may be seen
as a tragedy to another. Kate Chopin illustrates this idea in The Story of an Hour. The story is set in
the nineteenth century. Chopin uses the death of Mr. Mallard to show the reader Mrs. Mallard s deep
feelings. In the story, Josephine and Mrs. Mallard are sisters. Although the women come from the
same background, live in the same city, and outwardly appear to be satisfied with their lives, their
attitudes are very different. Chopin uses these two women as foil characters in the story. The
differences in the women are seen in their reactions to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mallard lets the reader know she feels imprisoned by her life as Mrs. Mallard, Mr. Mallard s wife.
Mrs. Mallard feels stifled and bound by her limited opportunities. Josephine and Mrs. Mallard may be
sisters, but they have very different outlooks on a woman s role in society.
The differences in Josephine and Mrs. Mallard are evident in their reactions to the news of Mr.
Mallard s death. Josephine cannot find a ray of hope in Mr. Mallard s death. She is overwhelmed with
sadness. She is very careful how she tells Mrs. Mallard of her husband s death. Josephine uses broken
sentences and veiled hints when telling Mrs. Mallard of Mr. Mallard s death. Josephine knows that
Mrs. Mallard depends on her husband for everything. However, Mrs. Mallard s reaction to the news is
very different. Mrs. Mallard loves her husband. She is saddened by the news, but she is able to see
into the future. She is able to see a future with color and brightness. Mrs. Mallard feels set free from
bondage. She no longer sees a world of restrictions but a world of opportunity and adventure. Her
husband s death brings revival to her soul. Chopin says, Mrs. Mallard is drinking in a very elixir of
life through that open window. The news of Mr. Mallard s death is tragic but brings very different
reactions from Josephine and Mrs. Mallard.
At the end of the story, when Mr. Mallard enters his house, Josephine and Mrs. Mallard respond very
distinctly. Josephine

Social Norms In Latin American Culture
Are our cultural and societal norms a result of our evolution or interaction between other cultures?
Abstract:
Word Count:248
The objectification and sexualization of female breasts is implemented in many cultures, including in
the American culture. It has been a common occurrence to see women cover their breasts in public as
a social norm, unless they engaged in a sexual behavior they should not be seen. Even something as
natural as breastfeeding is seen as an act of public indecency. However, this is not the case for other
cultures around the world. Some of the most modest dressing cultures see breastfeeding as completely
natural, while still seeing other parts of the female body as sexual. In this case, why do some cultures
sexualize female breasts and breastfeeding, and others do not? The purpose of this investigation is to
find if human cultural and societal norms are affected by our evolution, or if they are influenced by
our interactions with other cultures around us. For the purpose of this investigation, a chosen culture
from varying continents will be explored on their perspective of the female breast and how each came
to their current perspective. The national bubbles will be the bases for the investigation, as exploring

Univariance Lab Report
The principle of univariance
The principle of univariance states that an unlimited set of diverse wavelength intensity mixtures can
produce the same response from a single kind of photoreceptor. Having the photoreceptor to respond
with the same rate creates a problem, as the human eye favors to perceive wavelength and amplitude.
These are two aspects of light that allow us to perceive color and brightness. Furthermore, a single sort
of cone is able to provide a neural firing rate, which varies in one dimension or is univariate.
However, for an accurate and complete vision, humans need to code for two dimensions. For instance,
having one type of cone would prevent a person from perceiving color vision. In this experiment, the
firing rate a cone has to different lights is explored. In order to make the cone to fire to a high extent,
the wavelength has to be in 550, and with 90% amplitude. However, this firing rate changes when the
color is changed to a darker color, like with dark blue. In this case the amplitude is in 50% and the
wavelength in 450. This shows this cone is univariant, but can fire with less intensity with darker
colors.

This activity allows the participant to observe the responses for the L, M, and S cones. This activity
shows that the cones have different response rates to different lights. For instance, the S cones, which
are short wavelength cones, have a high firing rate with 90% amplitude of blue light. However, the L
cones, which are long wavelength cones, have a strong firing rate with 90% amplitude of red light.
This is consistent with the length of the light wavelengths. For instance, the M cones, which has
medium wavelength respectively responds to medium wavelength light, which is green

Analysis Of The Meditations By Marcus Aurelius
The Meditations was written by Marcus Aurelius, a Roman emperor, almost a hundred years after the
birth of Christ. This man had all the power in the world, but he remained virtuous and pious as
illustrated through his book. This book was never intended to be published. It is a collection of
exhortations, reminders, reflections, and ideologies meant for his own self improvement. By reading
his Meditations, I have grown in thought and character. Aurelius has wonderful lessons everyone can
learn from. Author Marcus Aurelius was born 121 AD in Rome. His father died three years after. He
was then adopted by his grandfather who provided teachers for Marcus, all of whom he expresses
gratitude for in Book 1. At age seventeen, Marcus was adopted ... Show more content on

Marcus incorporation of Stoicism is evident in my favorite lessons from his book. History and Impact
The first clear reference to Marcus s Meditations was made around 300 AD by Themistius in his
speech to the eastern emperor Valens. He calls Marcus s aphorisms exhortations . From then on, the
Meditations has been translated hundreds of times from Ancient Greek. Marcus never titled his notes,
they were just jottings in his journal. There are multiple titles for them, but the one that has stuck the
most is, of course, his Meditations. The Meditations has impacted men of power and soldiers the most.
Marcus was the emperor when he wrote his exhortations. Therefore, leaders are able to identify with
his wisdom. There are a lot of excerpts that would be helpful to leaders. For instance: The man
without one and same aim in life cannot himself stay one and the same throughout his life. The maxim
is incomplete unless you add what sort of aim that should be. Judgments vary of the whole range of
various things taken by the majority to be goods in one way or another, but only one category
commands a universal judgment, and that is the good of the community. It follows that the aim we
should set ourselves is a social aim, the benefit of our fellow citizens. A man directing his own
impulses to this end will be consistent in all his actions. 112:21 If I was in a position of power, I would
consult this book because Marcus was in a position of power too and he has

The Beginning Of The Reformation
Task 1: Describe the beginning of the Reformation in Germany (including who, when, and where).
The Protestant Reformation was the 16th century religious, political, intellectual and cultural uprising
that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the structures and beliefs that would define the
continent in the modern era. In northern and central Europe, reformers like Martin Luther and Henry
VIII challenged papal authority and questioned the Catholic Church s ability to define Christian
practice. On October 31 1517, Martin Luther nailed the 95 thesis to the door of the church of
Wittenberg. These theses were up for debate on the errors of indulgences and related matters which,
for him, came into the category of useless works which distracted Christians from their true path to
salvation, which was faith alone They argued for a religious and political redistribution of power into
the hands of Bible. The word spread because of the invention of the printing press which basically as
the internet of the 1500 s. They found that if the out the whole alphabet onto a bunch of lead blocks
inside out and upside down, they found that they could print these theses over and over. (Without it the
modern era would not have come about) . So after the theses went public, Most of Germany was in
uproar. Luther had to go into hiding will he translated the New Testament into German. After that
things moved rapidly and Luther s writings, attacking not just indulgences, but the

Arete In The Golden Age ) Art, Architecture And Art
The concept of areté in Classical Greek (AKA Golden Age) art, architecture, or thought wc. 249
Arete is an ancient Greek term that describes a man s effectiveness at reaching his full potential and
quality of being best. The arete of something is the highest quality state it can reach. Using arete as a
principle for living life means that you are focused on the quality of everything you do and
experience. Take actions that focus on arete and avoid actions that lack arete. The Golden age is
typically defined as a time of great prosperity and learning. Significant contributions by philosophers,
scholars, and politicians created advancements in thought, art, technology, literature, and science. As a
result, society experienced a period of great excellence and virtue that is still seen today. Art and
architecture during the golden age emphasized the accomplishments of human beings. Although most
art and architecture were meant to commemorate the gods, they were created in the image of people.
Sculpting was a huge influence during this time, artists began to sculpt people in more relaxed
postures with more defined features. The sculptures were meant to create lifelike images of near
perfection like the statue of Zeus at Olympia and the statue of Athena at Parthenos. The architecture
was intertwined with their art detailed and to perfection to the human eye. A big part of their
architecture was the column that can be seen in more infrastructure, like the Parthenon. Three types

Impact of Institutional Factors and Election Mechanisms...
In the 2012 United States Presidential election 58.2 percent of the registered voters turnout out to vote
(IDEA). This figure is in stark contrast to many other wealthy democracies in the western world for
the same election cycle (IDEA). This begs the question, why is voter turnout significantly lower in the
US compared to the rest of the first world and other OECD countries? There are countless factors that
could affect voter turnout, the most standard of which are based on socioeconomic status. But when
considering only developed nations, more is at play in predicting turnout. Focus is turned to
institutional factors and the effect election mechanisms, such as registration laws and party systems,
have on political participation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These institutional factors increase the resources necessary for a member of the public to vote, thus
discouraging political participation. Much of the proceeding argument hinges off of the Resource
Model of Participation, which states that an individual votes, or more generally participates in politics,
base on their personal stock of time, money, and civic skills (Verba, Schlozman, and Brady). It cost
personal resources to vote, and thus inherently an individual can only do so if they posses those
resources ahead of time. Additional credibility is gained from the Rational Choice Model of
Participation, which assumes that an individual votes based on logic, and will only cast a vote if
receiving a net benefit from doing so (Blais). In this way, even someone possessing the resources to
vote may be turned away because the burden of institutional factors decreases the net benefit of
voting. In the 2012 presidential election in the United States, as stated before, 58.2 percent of
registered voters turned out to vote. During the same election period, 80.35 percent turnout out for the
presidential elections in France, 71.55 percent in Germany, and 75.19 percent in Italy (IDEA). Only
the highest election in each respective country is considered. While these percentages may seem

Abstract
This research paper evaluates the Bowen Family Systems Theory and its impact on the practices of
Marriage and Family Counseling. Dr. Murray Bowen is credited with being one of the founders of
family systems theory. This paper will discuss the eight concepts which Bowen deemed causes anxiety
within the family system. Also, the goals and practices which have been utilized by professionals
within the psychology field relation to the Bowen Family Systems Theory. Analysis provides that
anxiety is passed along through the family system by the triangle concept and when families are

How Did Billy Joel s Song We Didn T Start The Fire
American composer and pianist Billy Joel wrote the song We Didn t Start the Fire regarding the
important events that occurred in the twentieth century. Joel was born in 1949 after World War II. Joel

Nero s Domus Aurea And The Colosseum
The Colosseum has been standing for over 1900 years but before discussing the Colosseum s
achievements, it is important to understand the historical context and background of the building. How
can a place go from being a symbol of extreme tyranny and private wealth to a symbol of one of the
greatest entertainment venues and architectural feats? The Roman Colosseum did just that. It
completely changed the public attitude and activity since it was built upon the grounds of what was
once the part of Golden House of Nero (Domus Aurea). Although both Nero s Domus Aurea and the
Colosseum are architecturally supreme and complex, the area holds rich history of private decadent

The California Wetlands Essay
The California Wetlands
Smelly, insect infested, and disease ridden are many words that people have used to describe the
attributes of wetlands in our country. Until recently it was thought that wetlands served very little use
as a part of our ecosystem. However, as the developers began to drain and destroy these wetlands in
order to build housing developments and commercial buildings environmental scientists emerged from
the woodwork. These environmental scientists found the value and absolute necessity for wetlands
and brought it to the attention of politicians. The politicians are the only ones who could slow the

A major function of wetlands is that they naturally clean the table waters. With the use of
microorganisms it is possible to naturally clean the water supply much better than many water
purification plants. A benefit of purifying water with the use of wetlands is that not only does it save
the taxpayers money but it also saves the environment from the pollution that a water purification
plant would produce. Another function of wetlands is its storage ability. In the event of a large storm
or heavy rain wetlands can store the floodwaters so that they do not over run the near by area. To
reduce the effects of flooding wetlands are able to store stormwater and gradually returning it to
surface flow, reducing the effects of erosion by stabilizing soils, and dampening the effects of wave
action . M. Dennison et.al. 1993. Wetlands also provide a feeding ground and habitat to many fish,
waterfowl and other wildlife. Many endangered birds nest and breed on the shores of wetlands and
these habitats are crucial for their survival. The destruction of wetlands has become a major problem,
especially in California.
In the United States the destruction of wetlands had been enormous, however in the state of California
it has been estimated that nearly ninety three percent of the wetlands have been destroyed. With profit

Why Is Honesty Important
Why Is Honesty Important? The Impact of Honesty on Me Honesty has played a key role in my
success in life. Throughout my childhood my parents would always remind me about the importance
of being honest. In their opinion nothing was as important as having self respect and being
trustworthy. The saying honesty is the best policy perfectly sums up my belief about how people
should interact with each other. For me, being honest in everything I do can be a very difficult thing,
but I have found that as I follow this basic principle my life has become better for it. Growing up in
my home as a child, I was surrounded by honesty and integrity. I assumed that the world was a great

Analysis Of The Novel Loving Pedro Infante
In defining one s identity, many different factors are considered; such as one s nationality,
characteristic, personality, ability, experience, religion, and etc. Especially for those people who live in
America, so called country of immigration, has much more complicated identities than those Asian
country people where mixed people are rarely noticed. Thinking about the concept of identity, some
people easily categorized themselves as simple factors and terms which could describe their surface;
white, black, Asian, European, pretty, ugly, nice, mean and so on and so forth. And that is the most
point where majority people stopped to list their identities from exploring more in complicated range.
However, there are many people who dig more than common people; one great example would be
Denise Chavez, who is the author of the novel called Loving Pedro Infante, who kept asking herself
about her identity to approach more accurate and clear ideas. In her work, reader could see the
confusion of Tere, the main character of the novel, went through her life as Latin American female in
dealing with finding one s true identity and how she accept her as who she really is. Denise Chavez,
who is obviously Latin American lady, mirror her own life experience through the character she
created and introduce to readers about tough life she lived in America as Mejicana. The main character
of this novel have a clear understanding and strong idea about herself throughout the novel, even if

My Job At The City Of Irvine Right After College
The views between following one s needs and surrendering one s self can clash under particular
conditions such as the environment and yet experienced in various manners. I first started working for
the City of Irvine right after I graduated College 2014. Having the opportunity to work for a city such
as Irvine right after college, I felt so honored and over joyed. Excited to have a job, working for a
beautiful city and enjoying every second of every day and the new challenges and experiences. This
employment opportunity allowed me to be paid above the minimum wage, though I was not interested
in the pay. It also allowed me to make a difference in the people around the community, which to me,
is a value to me. I need to have value within my career choice in addition to and being able to enjoy
my daily tasks. I took this job for the reasons of being qualified for the position available, and the
possibility where this opportunity can lead.. Overtime, I began to feel overworked and under paid.
This included 10 hour days for 5 days a week, including the weekend shifts and was expected to
perform tasks that were not included in our job description. Duties such as janitorial, while those
performing these services actually received more pay, and yet, they do not have the additional
responsibilities to enforce policy. The other payment issue that arose was not being allocated the
correct hourly rate for over a year of employment. These items soon became issues that left me

Biological Determinism And Crime Of Criminology
Biological Determinism and Criminality
Throughout the history of criminology, each theory dominates and gains support than others though
different period of time. This essay will first discuss the argument for biological determinism which
mainly focuses on phrenology. The idea of Darwinism also links to Lombroso s idea that a person s
bad behavior can be predicted and should be eliminated will also be discussed. The second part of the
essay will emphasis the classical theory and how in contrasts with the positivism approach

These are what he called animal like features (Mason, 2015).
The aim of biological criminology is stop crime from occurring. Thus, the idea of Darwinism comes
into play. Darwinism is the idea of natural selection where only the so called good genes can be passed
down and prevent genes that can cause excessive aggression or mental illness. Those are considered to
be bad and could drive a person to commit crime Christopher (Beaver Ferguson, 2009). Therefore, a
method of doing this is called sterilization. Sterilization is a genetic intervention which prevents
criminals, feebleminded, mentally disorder, those that are considered to be unfit in the society not to
pass down their genes by forcibly causing them not to reproduced (Lombardo, 2008). A famous case
study for this is the case of Buck V. Bell. She was accused as having mentally disorder and feeble
minded. Eight out of nine judges of the State of Virginia took the right to sterilize her including her
mother and daughter. This Buck v. Bell, 274 U.S. 200 1927 act known as a surgery tool used in the
government policy to prevent those feeble minded and inadequate people in the society to have
children. This has come under the Darwinism theory as the genetic selection (Lombardo, 2008).
Part 2)
In contrast to the positivism approach, classical theory has a different way of explanation why crime
occur. Classical theory

Memento Film Techniques
When it comes to symbols throughout this movie, they are not hidden where you have to think about
it. These motifs are easily present and up front an personal when the film was screened. The first motif
was obvious and of course the main sought out object of the entire film and that was the Enigma
machine. This machine was said to be the unbreakable message translator that would be all the
leverage needed for Germany to have the victory at the end of the tunnel. The Enigma machine was
easy to understand but extremely difficult to break, especially when you only had 24 hours to break
that days worth of codes and then after all the work would change for a new day of code breaking. The
second motif would be Turing s machine named Christopher. ... Show more content on

For example, when the commander has the whole crew besides Joan in a room in a circle talking about
ideas to break the Enigma machine, this scene tells you a lot more than what it actually is. First it
introduces the whole crew and it gives a preview on how they plan on getting along while being able
to see the emotions and expressions of each character. I believe after you watch this for a second time
it gives it away that Cairncross is up to something by the expression he gives in the scene. The feeling
of this scene is gloomy by the non existence of light, you can see the shadows off of the characters
faces which to me gives another insight that the machine in the middle of the table and the big secret
with in the crew are the things that are making it possible for Germany to win the war. The second
example is when the families were seeking safety in the bomb shelter from the Germans the lights
were swaying but some of the lighting didn t move. In this scene you can see in the top right corner
that their is light added because the light comes in at an angle unlike the other lights shown in the
shelter. Lastly, was when Turing was turning Joan down and telling her that she was only close to him
to help break Enigma, and now she can leave him alone. This lead to Joan slapping Turing, which is
where the feeling and overall shot portrays. After the slap you can see the slapped side of Turing s face
and their was no marks or indications of a confrontation. Even the aftermath of Turing expression didn
t show any evidence that he was

What happens to the economy when the government raises or lowers taxes? Lots of people in America
do not understand exactly what happens to the economy when the government raises or lowers taxes.
In this paper I am going to address that question as well as a few other things such as: Describing the
effect on net personal income when the government raises taxes and when the government lowers
taxes. Describing how the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is affected by higher taxes and lower taxes.

To get everything produced by a country s citizens, no matter where they are in the world, you should
look at Gross National Product (GNP), also called Gross National Income (GNI). (Amadeo,K. n.d)
Each month, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), an agency of the U.S. Department of
Commerce, releases an estimate of the level and growth of U.S. gross domestic product (GDP), which
is the output of goods and services produced by labor and property located in the United States.
Usually, a recession is when a slowdown in economic activity happens and can cause a decrease in
jobs, as well as constricted credit for loans, and lethargic or disheartened sales overall. To be precise, a
recession is defined as a decrease in the nation s total economic activity (the GNP) for two or more
consecutive quarters. We know when a recession occurs because it affects everyone. You might lose
your job, be turned down for a loan that you normally could have gotten etc... The government
intervenes by implementing the fiscal policy; it is a type of economical intervention where the
government inserts its guidelines into the economy to either expand the economy s growth or to
contract it. They do this by fluctuating the levels of spending and taxation, the governments can
directly or indirectly affect the total demand, which is the total amount of goods and services in the
economy.

Disadvantages Of Political Dynasty
Political dynasty is a well known method of politicians in the Philippines wherein the members of the
family been made also a member of the government in order for them to not lose power but gain more
power. This act abides an unfair and unjust for the reason that the government is not a business that a
family can run by themselves, but the government is for all and other people should be given chances
wherein they can be the one that leads a community. The government or politics is not a business that
can be run by generation and generation of a family the government comprises a critical part of a

The Voting Age Should Be Legal
Twenty one year olds are mature enough to make important decisions such as voting. Most countries
around the world have established a voting age. Voting is a topic of heated debate in the United States
due to difference of opinions between the democrat and republican parties. In the United States the
voting age has been reduced from twenty one years old to eighteen years old. Even though the voting
age was reduced, some people have been lobbying in order to reduce the voting age to sixteen.
Reducing the legal age for voting is a bad idea, because the younger generation lacks the capability of
having an informed decision for voting. Although some people believed that the legal voting age
should be lower than eighteen, on the other hand others believe it should be returned to twenty one.
The legal voting age should be returned to twenty one because the majority of people over twenty one
are more educated about politics than an eighteen year old. People who are over twenty one are not
easily influenced by people s opinions and are more capable of evaluating future outcomes.
The legal voting age should be returned to twenty one, because people over twenty one are more
educated about politics. People under the age of twenty one tend to focus more on social media and
school. However, most people under the age of twenty one do not understand how much politics and
government affects their life. If you go to any college campus and talk with eighteen year old student,
you may find out

Paul Laurence Dunbar We Wear The Mask
The poem We Wear The Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar conceals the pain and suffer of slaves in the
1870s. Paul Laurence Dunbar created this poetry around the exact time period were former slaves was
seeking civil rights and equality in America. Dunbar symbolism of the mask focused towards one s
true feelings underlying the unhappiness, disparity, and hopelessness. Furthermore, it brought to light
how slaves would hide their affliction to show their perseverance towards the white oppressor. I
believe that Dunbar displayed the mask as two sided by portraying that hiding the truth as wrong and
others viewing hiding the truth as the best to do. In the certain time period, I believe the slaves hiding

  • 2. World Is Too Much With USarknotes What Becomes of Our Elegies? William Wordsworth s poem The World is too Much with Us begins with a pessimistic, yet chillingly accurate insight: The world is too much with us; late and soon, Getting and Spending, we lay waste our powers (1 2). Wordsworth asks whether progress was just a convenient excuse for the sacrifices mankind made during the Industrial Revolution. Alexander Pope, however, in his poem An Essay on Man, claims that although humans inevitably err, they still redeem themselves through trial and error, as indicated by contemporary examples. Therefore, under Pope s philosophy, The World is too Much with Us symbolizes the lesson learned through human reasoning on human errors that characterized the Industrial Revolution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially, the myopic drive for technology and material wealth had left humanity deprived of its soul. The industrial empire extorted what it could from nature. According to World Resources Institute, the planet has lost 80 percent of its forest cover to deforestation, and the number continues to increase. With the accumulation of wealth, Mammonism and attendant moral problems ensued. In Korea, as individuals were price tagged based on their economic productivity, the society stigmatized the elderly for their apparent uselessness. As some chose suicide over social isolation, suicide rate of the elderly increased twofold over the period of ten year, indicating the loss of morality. Still, like Wordsworth, those critical of the status quo advocate social reform. For instance, to counter deforestation, the UN Forum on Forests, is actively promoting reforestation by hosting European Forestry Commissions and World Forestry Congresses. There also are signs of moral redemption. In Korea, approximately ten thousand jobs for the elderly are being produced every year to forestall their social exclusion. Such precedents are enough to prove that the inherent nature of humanity is to err and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

DEVELOPMENT OF NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE UC MERCED VARSITY ATHLETE BY Allen McCreary Concordia University Irvine MCAA 550 Research Methods Analysis June, 15th 2015 Prof. Dr. Kent Schlichtemeier Chapter 1 Introduction Having spent the past Fifteen years coaching women s volleyball, I have witnessed many performance issues that come with a lack of nutrition from female athletes as well as my daughters. I am a Head coach for a small college in Merced California. It is located in the central valley where there are many farming communities. I am the head women s volleyball coach and as well as the strength and conditioning coach for my athletes. I am in my fourth year here and started the program from the ground. The level that I coach is NAIA and types of players that I recruited are scholarship players but at a mid level talent. We are a small budget team trying to grow to the NCAA DII level. My team is diverse ranging from multiple ethnic backgrounds. They all have very different eating habits that can cause them to perform at very different levels. The other concern is having half of the team living off campus and the other half on campus which can hurt by having food or not having food to eat healthy enough. The benefit of adequate nutrition contributing to successful athletic performance is well known, but not completely understood and applied among athletes. The purpose of this study was to assess nutrient intakes, and dietary habits ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Body and soul free! , Mrs. Mallard kept whispering. One person s ultimate freedom may be seen as a tragedy to another. Kate Chopin illustrates this idea in The Story of an Hour. The story is set in the nineteenth century. Chopin uses the death of Mr. Mallard to show the reader Mrs. Mallard s deep feelings. In the story, Josephine and Mrs. Mallard are sisters. Although the women come from the same background, live in the same city, and outwardly appear to be satisfied with their lives, their attitudes are very different. The differences in Josephine and Mrs. Mallard are evident in their reactions to the news of Mr. Mallard s death. Josephine cannot find a ray of hope in Mr. Mallard s death. She is overwhelmed with sadness. She is very careful how she tells Mrs. Mallard of her husband s death. Josephine uses broken sentences and veiled hints when telling Mrs. Mallard of Mr. Mallard s death. Josephine knows that Mrs. Mallard depends on her husband for everything. However, Mrs. Mallard s reaction to the news is very different. Mrs. Mallard loves her husband. She is saddened by the news, but she is able to see into the future. She is able to see a future with color and brightness. Mrs. Mallard feels set free from bondage. She no longer sees a world of restrictions but a world of opportunity and adventure. Her husband s death brings revival to her soul. Chopin says, Mrs. Mallard is drinking in a very elixir of life through that open window. The news of Mr. Mallard s death is tragic but brings very different reactions from Josephine and Mrs. Mallard. • 5. Social Norms In Latin American Culture Are our cultural and societal norms a result of our evolution or interaction between other cultures? Abstract: Word Count:248 The objectification and sexualization of female breasts is implemented in many cultures, including in the American culture. It has been a common occurrence to see women cover their breasts in public as a social norm, unless they engaged in a sexual behavior they should not be seen. Even something as natural as breastfeeding is seen as an act of public indecency. However, this is not the case for other cultures around the world. Some of the most modest dressing cultures see breastfeeding as completely natural, while still seeing other parts of the female body as sexual. In this case, why do some cultures sexualize female breasts and breastfeeding, and others do not? The purpose of this investigation is to find if human cultural and societal norms are affected by our evolution, or if they are influenced by our interactions with other cultures around us. For the purpose of this investigation, a chosen culture from varying continents will be explored on their perspective of the female breast and how each came to their current perspective. • 6. Univariance Lab Report The principle of univariance The principle of univariance states that an unlimited set of diverse wavelength intensity mixtures can produce the same response from a single kind of photoreceptor. Having the photoreceptor to respond with the same rate creates a problem, as the human eye favors to perceive wavelength and amplitude. These are two aspects of light that allow us to perceive color and brightness. Furthermore, a single sort of cone is able to provide a neural firing rate, which varies in one dimension or is univariate. However, for an accurate and complete vision, humans need to code for two dimensions. For instance, having one type of cone would prevent a person from perceiving color vision. In this experiment, the firing rate a cone has to different lights is explored. In order to make the cone to fire to a high extent, the wavelength has to be in 550, and with 90% amplitude. However, this firing rate changes when the color is changed to a darker color, like with dark blue. In this case the amplitude is in 50% and the wavelength in 450. This shows this cone is univariant, but can fire with less intensity with darker colors. Trichromacy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the L cones, which are long wavelength cones, have a strong firing rate with 90% amplitude of red light. This is consistent with the length of the light wavelengths. From then on, the Meditations has been translated hundreds of times from Ancient Greek. Marcus never titled his notes, they were just jottings in his journal. There are multiple titles for them, but the one that has stuck the most is, of course, his Meditations. The Meditations has impacted men of power and soldiers the most. Marcus was the emperor when he wrote his exhortations. Therefore, leaders are able to identify with his wisdom. There are a lot of excerpts that would be helpful to leaders. For instance: The man without one and same aim in life cannot himself stay one and the same throughout his life. The maxim is incomplete unless you add what sort of aim that should be. Judgments vary of the whole range of various things taken by the majority to be goods in one way or another, but only one category commands a universal judgment, and that is the good of the community. It follows that the aim we should set ourselves is a social aim, the benefit of our fellow citizens. The Protestant Reformation was the 16th century religious, political, intellectual and cultural uprising that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the structures and beliefs that would define the continent in the modern era. In northern and central Europe, reformers like Martin Luther and Henry VIII challenged papal authority and questioned the Catholic Church s ability to define Christian practice. On October 31 1517, Martin Luther nailed the 95 thesis to the door of the church of Wittenberg. These theses were up for debate on the errors of indulgences and related matters which, for him, came into the category of useless works which distracted Christians from their true path to salvation, which was faith alone They argued for a religious and political redistribution of power into the hands of Bible. The arete of something is the highest quality state it can reach. Using arete as a principle for living life means that you are focused on the quality of everything you do and experience. Take actions that focus on arete and avoid actions that lack arete. The Golden age is typically defined as a time of great prosperity and learning. Significant contributions by philosophers, scholars, and politicians created advancements in thought, art, technology, literature, and science. As a result, society experienced a period of great excellence and virtue that is still seen today. Art and architecture during the golden age emphasized the accomplishments of human beings. Although most art and architecture were meant to commemorate the gods, they were created in the image of people. Sculpting was a huge influence during this time, artists began to sculpt people in more relaxed postures with more defined features. The sculptures were meant to create lifelike images of near perfection like the statue of Zeus at Olympia and the statue of Athena at Parthenos. This figure is in stark contrast to many other wealthy democracies in the western world for the same election cycle (IDEA). This begs the question, why is voter turnout significantly lower in the US compared to the rest of the first world and other OECD countries? There are countless factors that could affect voter turnout, the most standard of which are based on socioeconomic status. But when considering only developed nations, more is at play in predicting turnout. Focus is turned to institutional factors and the effect election mechanisms, such as registration laws and party systems, have on political participation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These institutional factors increase the resources necessary for a member of the public to vote, thus discouraging political participation. Much of the proceeding argument hinges off of the Resource Model of Participation, which states that an individual votes, or more generally participates in politics, base on their personal stock of time, money, and civic skills (Verba, Schlozman, and Brady). It cost personal resources to vote, and thus inherently an individual can only do so if they posses those resources ahead of time. Additional credibility is gained from the Rational Choice Model of Participation, which assumes that an individual votes based on logic, and will only cast a vote if receiving a net benefit from doing so (Blais). In this way, even someone possessing the resources to vote may be turned away because the burden of institutional factors decreases the net benefit of voting. In the 2012 presidential election in the United States, as stated before, 58.2 percent of registered voters turned out to vote. During the same election period, 80.35 percent turnout out for the presidential elections in France, 71.55 percent in Germany, and 75.19 percent in Italy (IDEA). Until recently it was thought that wetlands served very little use as a part of our ecosystem. However, as the developers began to drain and destroy these wetlands in order to build housing developments and commercial buildings environmental scientists emerged from the woodwork. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A major function of wetlands is that they naturally clean the table waters. With the use of microorganisms it is possible to naturally clean the water supply much better than many water purification plants. A benefit of purifying water with the use of wetlands is that not only does it save the taxpayers money but it also saves the environment from the pollution that a water purification plant would produce. Another function of wetlands is its storage ability. In the event of a large storm or heavy rain wetlands can store the floodwaters so that they do not over run the near by area. To reduce the effects of flooding wetlands are able to store stormwater and gradually returning it to surface flow, reducing the effects of erosion by stabilizing soils, and dampening the effects of wave action . Those are considered to be bad and could drive a person to commit crime Christopher (Beaver Ferguson, 2009). Therefore, a method of doing this is called sterilization. These motifs are easily present and up front an personal when the film was screened. The first motif was obvious and of course the main sought out object of the entire film and that was the Enigma machine. This machine was said to be the unbreakable message translator that would be all the leverage needed for Germany to have the victory at the end of the tunnel. First it introduces the whole crew and it gives a preview on how they plan on getting along while being able to see the emotions and expressions of each character. I believe after you watch this for a second time it gives it away that Cairncross is up to something by the expression he gives in the scene. The feeling of this scene is gloomy by the non existence of light, you can see the shadows off of the characters faces which to me gives another insight that the machine in the middle of the table and the big secret with in the crew are the things that are making it possible for Germany to win the war. The second example is when the families were seeking safety in the bomb shelter from the Germans the lights were swaying but some of the lighting didn t move. In this scene you can see in the top right corner that their is light added because the light comes in at an angle unlike the other lights shown in the shelter. Lastly, was when Turing was turning Joan down and telling her that she was only close to him to help break Enigma, and now she can leave him alone. This lead to Joan slapping Turing, which is where the feeling and overall shot portrays.
