Rappaccini’s Daughter
Women and Rappaccini s Daughter
What are the attitudes of the young medical school student in Hawthorne s tale, Rappaccini s
Daughter, toward women; of the author toward women; of other characters in the story toward
women? Are women involved in basic plot development? This essay intends to answer these and other
questions about women in the short story.
Beatrice, Dr. Rappaccini s daughter, is the prime motivating force in the story. Giovanni s love for the
beautiful daughter, mixed perhaps with pride, blinds him to various indications of her poisonous
nature, to the evil nature of her father and to the intent of her father to involve the protagonist as a
subject in his sinister experiment.

This may be expected since she is Italian. Or perhaps Hawthorne was conscious of moral
responsibility in her portrayal; Sculley Bradley, Richmond Croom Beatty and E. Hudson Long in The
Social Criticism of a Public Man state regarding the author: He was absorbed by the enigmas of evil
and of moral responsibility (47).
Giovanni in his room can hear the water gurgling in Dr. Rappaccini s garden, from an ancient marble
fountain located in the center of the plants and bushes; of particular interest to Giovanni is one shrub
in particular, set in a marble vase in the midst of the pool, that bore a profusion of purple blossoms,
each of which had the lustre and richness of a gem. As striking as the plant of the purple gems is a tall,
emaciated, sallow, and sickly looking man, dressed in a scholar s garb of black, who is busy in the
garden, scientifically examining the plants in a detached and cautious manner as if walking among
malignant influences, such as savage beasts, or deadly snakes, or evil spirits.
Ironically, into this sinister environment the reader sees the second female character enter the tale with
the doctor s shout, Beatrice! Beatrice! She very promptly and obediently

Water Cycle And Its Effect On Earth
I don t think that I could explain how important water is for life on earth to survive without first
explaining what water is and how different it is than other substances. Water is unique in that it is the
only natural substance that is found on earth as a liquid, solid and gas. The water cycle of the earth
shows that it is constantly interacting, changing, and moving. The water cycle has five parts which are
evaporation, condensation, precipitation, infiltration and surface run off. This water cycle is critical to
life on earth as it provides potable water that all living organisms need. Water freezes at 32 degrees
and boils at 212 degrees. Water s freezing and boiling points are the baseline with which temperature
is measured on the Celsius scale. Water is lighter as a solid than a liquid. When water freezes it
expands adding about 9% by volume. Retrieved from http://www.funology.com/facts about weather
and nature/ (20141114) Fresh water has a maximum density at around 4° Celsius. Water is the only
substance on this planet where the maximum density of its mass does not occur when it becomes a
solid. Water is unusual in that in its solid form, ice, it is less dense than the liquid form. This is why
ice floats and this fact is what allows life to exist in lakes and rivers during the winter months. The
water in the seas and oceans contains a significant amount of salt that this lowers the freezing point of
the water and no ice forms from the sea or ocean. The ice found in

Analysis Of Woman Holding A Balance
Exploring Depth with Vermeer Woman Holding a Balance is a Northern European piece of art painted
by Johannes Vermeer between the dates of 1662 and1665. This painting was created out of oils. This
fascinating piece of art uses light and color to depict its depth and space. Woman Holding a Balance
has so much to interpret as far as depth and space through the form and structure of the artwork. This
piece of art is formed from blue, gray, white, and yellow colors giving it a harmonious act to it.
Vermeer created this piece of art as a woman holding a balance with her right hand. As we analyze this
painting starting off from the top left portion, there is a window with light entering the space to which
this woman is in. The window is covered by a yellow curtain. Next to the window is a dark, framed
mirror, which is close to a black color. Underneath the mirror, Vermeer painted a table with gray and
yellowish pearls laid down over it. There is also a dark blue piece of cloth resting on the top left
portion of the table. Right in front of the table we have the woman holding the scale, and she is
wearing a blue and white jacket with a hoodie that gently falls over to the sides of her head. In
addition, on the far back part of the painting, right behind the woman, Vermeer painted The Last
Judgment . The Last Judgement shows Christ with his arms extended on judgment day with people
looking up at him from beneath. All this, as far as the window, table, pearls, woman,

Woman Hollering Creek Journey
The Destination is in the Journey T.S. Elliot once said that it is the journey not the destination that
matters. A journey is not only moving from one point to another but is the process of getting to the
destination. Journeys are in no way easy. Sacrifices are often made for the potential of a desirable
outcome. Cleófilas in Sandra Cisneros Woman Hollering Creek and Rosa from Cynthia Ozick s The
Shawl both have emotionally and physically stressful journeys. Both protagonists transfer from their
homelands to the United States in hope to escape their journeys, but they realize that they must face
their woes in order to overcome their past and reach towards their ultimate destination of peace. Even
though their journeys may be difficult, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To complete her journey, she had to make a great sacrifice. Cleófilas had to sacrifice being in a marital
relationship for being a societally unacceptable single mother. Cleófilas once believed that it would be
a disgrace ... [to come] home ... with one baby on her hip and one in the oven (50). It is hard enough
that Cleófilas is a married woman who is leaving her husband, but to make her situation worse she is
pregnant and already has a young son. People can be very mean especially to single mothers. Cleófilas
was also concerned about being the center of gossip (50). It was not the norm for wives to leave their
husbands and domestic abuse is not a topic that is frowned upon in the work because men saw their
wives as disposables. Because Cleófilas was absorbed into the novelty of marriage that telenovelas,
Hispanic soap operas, depicted, she had to learn that soap operas poorly depicted real relationships the
hard way. Consequentially, she also understood that there are some circumstances like marital abuse
that warrant the need to leave a relationship. When Cleófilas father bid his farewell upon her initial
departure her promised her that he was [her] father, [and he] will never abandon [her] (43). Cleófilas
father is an admirable figure because no matter how far his daughter is, he is willing be there for her.
His promise serves as the motivation

How To The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum
I went to the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum for my art experience project. I was
impressed with the amount of statues I was able to see in one place. A majority of them seem to have
been created and donated by the Fredericks family themselves. As I said before the amount of statues
in this little space is impressive, however my first impression is the feeling of claustrophobia.
The statues are packed in fairly tight and the space overall doesn t seem to be well utilized. The room
it was in did however provide an ample amount of natural light from the large windowed wall to the
north. This coupled with the recessed lighting did a good job of lighting the statues facing the northern
wall. Unfortunately though, some of the statues are facing the southern wall and lose a little detail to
not being as well lit from only the recessed lighting. The contrast between well lit and dimly lit does
lend to contrast in light and shadow for the statues facing the east and west walls. The contours of
these statues are much more defined because of the line of contrast so they seem to draw me in the
most. I also get this cold feeling, even though the floors are more of a warm/neutral color. I believe
this is due to the lack of a large amount of the statues not being colored at all. The few that are colored
are just antiqued bronze so they are mostly that powder blue/green color. The lack of color though, I
feel, is intended to make a point.
It seems as though the artist meant for

Discuss Las Vegas in Relation to Hyperreality. Demonstrate...
What is hyperreality and what does it mean? Why is Las Vegas postulated to be hyperreal ?
Furthermore why is it that so many people in the world want to visit Las Vegas, and people return
back to Las Vegas year after year, even though we all believe the city, and everything within it, is
superficial and fake? Perhaps it is to do with nostalgia, or the fact that Las Vegas is very good at being
a themed illusion which puts everyone into a trance and make them believe they are in fantasyland?
Why is Las Vegas the way that it is and has been, and will it be as successful in years to come? Why
does Las Vegas stand out within the theory of Hyperreality? It is because it epitomises the core

Totalitarianism In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
In the book, Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, he portrayed to me a sense of repetition in the
political process, that seems to eventually end in chaos or confusion, not witch truly sums up his view
of a political process in the government. The main key points Orwell was trying to come through with
the book was the meaning of totalitarianism. According to Classroom Synonym, totalitarian
government is a single party dictatorship that controls all aspects of public and private life, which is
most definitely portrayed in the book though the characters.Although throughout the essay I will be
comparing this incredible analogy, through a realistic and nonrealistic viewpoint about totalitarianism;
a bitter feud between the South Sudanese president and his vice president, and Emma Stone s
character in present still truly connects through the twisted story of human nature in the movie the The
Help . Eventually, by the end of this, you will see through various quotes from Animal Farm and
researched articles and how today s political world, written by George Orwell.
Although many countries are changing their way of political movements there is still totalitarianism in
foreign countries. It occurs in North Korea, China, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia, and much more,
according to Quora. This can be seen in the quoted words, Man serves the interest of no creature
except himself. And among us animals let there be a perfect unity, perfect comradeship in the
struggle. All men are enemies. All animals are comrades. (Orwell 21) In the beginning this is what the
animals stood for and all agreed to,but Orwell shows how all of Old Major s words become ruins and
that this is the hope that all totalitarian regimes have in the beginning of any revolution, battle, or war
and that they have a very clear view of their enemies and their goal as a whole. Although, the greed
for power and much more take place quite quickly. According to Litcharts, Those who hold power in
totalitarianism regimes care only about one thing: maintaining their power by any means necessary.
The character that best describes these motives is Napoleon. He obtains this in visual with the quoted
words from the book, At first, one had been able to imagine

The Brain Sensory Input Of Different Modalities Essay
The brain processes sensory input of different modalities simultaneously in cortical areas. Sensory
information of different modalities is either processed independently before being integrated to
provide an overall picture of our surroundings, or cross modal interaction occurs before integration.
We compared visual evoked potentials (VEPs) evoked when attention is directed toward either visual
or auditory stimuli and found no difference in mean P100 when attention was directed toward visual
stimuli (2.41x10 5 ± 6.43x10 5 V, n=10) or auditory stimuli (1.68x10 5 ± 1.93x10 5 V, n=10). This
evidence suggests that processing of visual information is unaffected by the concurrent processing of
auditory information.
Introduction
The human brain receives input containing sensory information of different modalities from the
surrounding environment. This information is processed in different areas of the brain that do not
function in isolation and exhibit interactive plasticity (Roe et al., 1990). The processed information
evokes activity in different cortical areas responsible for processing senses and is integrated to give
coherent, detailed information (Molholm et al., 2002).
Increasing attention to visual stimuli results in a stronger response at the neuronal level (Reynolds
Chelazzi, 2004). The capability to retain working memory of a visual stimulus is enhanced when
attention is fully focused on the stimulus compared to when objects in the periphery of focus act as

Playing against a Computer or a Human Research
Background and significance Individuals participating in an interaction perceive one another as
rational agents who possess beliefs, desires and intentions that might be different than their own.
Assumptions made about these mental states are used to interpret and predict behavior. Conferring
such attributes to an agent (human, computer, whatever) has been described as adopting an intentional
stance (Dennet, 1996). Adopting an intentional stance is part of our broader ability to mentalize which
involves representing and attributing mental states to oneself and others. Research concerned with
understanding the neural system of mentalizing has indentified a network of regions that minimally
involve the temporoparietal region (TPJ) and the medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) (Abu Akel and
Shamay Tsoory, 2011). However, it is not completely clear the extent to which humans readily
mentalize (or adopt an intentional stance) with other humans or non humans (e.g., computers). Thus
an important goal of this study is to investigate how the neural network associated with adopting an
intentional stance is modulated under various interaction conditions in which the interacting partner
and the context are varied. Several studies employing various interactive games have been conducted
to uncover the neural basis involved in adopting an intentional stance. These studies followed a
similar script according to which participants were led to believe that they are playing either against a

Food And Drinks In Roman Food
Food and drinks played an essential role in the life of a wealthy Roman citizen. Unlike other periods
of time food had an important social impact during Ancient Rome and the daily life of Ceaser.
However in many cultures breakfast, lunch and dinner were the three main courses of the day. A
wealthy citizens breakfast consisted of bread with olives or cheese and lunch was usually quick with
bread, cheese, and fruit (Ermatinger 1). Dinner was their main affair, and the largest meal of the day
(Ermatinger 1). It contained bread, vegetables, olive oil, cheese and meat (Ermatinger 1). Banquets
and feasts were also another elaborate way people would celebrate and enjoy their food (Moulton 27).
How the poor ate was quite unlike the wealthy. They had the duty of finding and preparing their dishes
in order for their families to eat. Wine was the favorite drink for both social classes and consumed
with most meals. The knowledge and responsibility of women in ancient history pertained mainly to
the preparation of food. Today, the writing of ancients and archeologists has given us insight about the
foods that were eaten, and the manner in which they were prepared. Their climate, soil, and terrain of
the region exposed that it was especially good for growing grains, legumes, beans, olive trees, and
grape trees (Moulton 3). Grain was their primary ingredient for making flour, which was used in the
most common foods eaten. Including varieties of bread, porridge, biscuits, and cakes. They

Critical Analysis Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
Critical Analysis of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
The speaker in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken gives the reader insight into human nature with
each line of poetry. While, Frost had not originally intended for this to be an inspirational poem, line
by line, the speaker is encouraging each reader to seek out his or her own personal path in the journey
of life. Romanticizing the rural woods of New England creates the perfect setting for the theme of self
discovery laid out and described by the speaker.
Robert Frost s original intent in writing the poem was not to convey the inspiration that it has for
almost a hundred years. He had written the poem to poke fun at his friend, Edward Thomas, with
whom he had taken many walks. Thomas was hesitant and always wondering what would happen if he
had chosen a different path (http://www.yoga.com/raw/readings/frost_road.html). In fact, Frost sent
the poem to his friend, then in France, and got the response, ?What are you trying to do with me??
(http://www.libarts.sfasu.edu/Frost/PopPoems.html). However, Frost did see the impact the poem was
having and stated, Do not follow where the path may lead?Go instead where there is no path and leave
a trail.
The speaker communicates many things in the first stanza of the poem. The first line, ?Two roads
diverged in a yellow wood,? uses imagery with the color yellow, the color of gold, to show that the
speaker sees an opportunity ahead of him. The two roads symbolizes the choices and consequences he
must choose. The next line, ?And sorry I could not travel both,? illustrates how difficult it is to make a
choice. It is impossible not to wonder what could happen by choosing the other road and what he
could be missing out on. ?And being one traveler long I stood,? shows how the speaker would like to
be in two places at once. Unable to accomplish this, he takes a long time to decide on what he should
do. Finally, the speaker describes studying the first option, looking as far into the future as he possibly
could with the lines, ?And looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth.?
The speaker continues to convey his message in the second stanza of ?The Road Not Taken.? In the
opening line of this

History of Physical Education Essay
Physical education is defined nowadays as a systematic instruction in sports, exercises, and hygiene
given as part of a school or college program (Park). When most people think of the term physical
education they think of it as a broad, inclusive term comprising the fields of physical education, health
education, safety education, athletics, recreation, dance education, kinesiology and so on (Zeigler 1). It
may sometimes be referred to as physical training or gym class and mainly is taught in grades
kindergarten all to the way up to your senior year in high school in the United States. The history of
physical education dates way back to the Greek and Roman times and has slowly evolved into what it

So things such as running, jumping, swimming, wrestling and boxing were all part of the Roman
education system and were used for military preparation as well. There were also sporting events that
the Roman Empire put on in honor of the gods they worshipped similar to that of the Greeks
(Siedentop 24 25).
Back in those days of the Greek and Roman women were not able to participate in physical education
and sport to the same degree as men, so they never had the same chances that men did. Greeks would
never let women partake in physical education, but the Romans were not quite as harsh letting them
occasionally do dancing or light exercise. Once the fall of the Roman Empire happened it became
what was known as the dark ages for physical education (Siedentop 25). It was a period of 1,000 years
in which physical activity, sport, and fitness diminished in importance amid political and economic
chaos (Siedentop 25).
The Roman and the Greek civilizations were a great influence on the European culture and
philosophies. Europeans then eventually came to settle in America (Siedentop 24). This meant that
early ideas and perspective on physical education in the United States were based on European
traditions and beliefs which were based on the Roman and Greek culture.
Physical education did not really start to make a comeback until the seventeenth and eighteenth
century. This is around the time when the European settlers were migrating

Task 2 Moving To An English-Speaking Country
Task 1a
It can be hard moving from one place to another, especially if you speak another language and have
different cultures. Moving to a new place can be like moving to a completely new world for some
people. Doing stuff like go to the supermarket, library or school can be challenging. There are things
we can do to help these newcomers, and to make them feel more welcome. We can for instance talk
English with them. By doing that, they will understand more of what we are saying. We can also try to
speak slowly, so it is easier for the newcomers to understand.
Another thing that would really help would be to have some cultural offerings for the newcomers.
People could meet and get to know each other. The newcomers also may learn something about ...

You cannot continue speaking your main language, and you may have to learn the new language.
Some languages may be harder to learn than others may, but one of the easiest language to master
must be English. At least for us Norwegians.
Since we have English as a class already in elementary school, English is the language we Norwegians
know best, except from Norwegian. We learn English every week throughout the whole school. Not
only do we learn English in school, but we also see English movies, read English news and listen to
English music. Our country is full off English, so it is hard to avoid it.
I think the main challenge for us moving to an English speaking country would be to speak English.
That would be because we do not speak as much English as we read. It would be especially hard to
speak English in countries like Scotland, due to the Scottish accent. Conversations would sometimes
be hard to take a part of, and understanding what the teacher talks about could also be a challenge. In
the beginning, you would probably have the person to speak slowly and repeat the sentence many
times. Also new expressions like pound, feet and miles would be hard to understand. We would
always have to translate the pounds into Norwegian money to see how much money it really is. After a
while, we may manage to just look at the pounds and realize how much Norwegian kroner that would
be.

Causes Of Air Pollution Essay
A big major problem in today s world is air pollution, and it is a major cause of climate change. Air
pollution affects many thing in the world. It affects our crops, our animals, and also us people who can
suffer terribly from air pollution. People who have medical problems like lung cancer, and asthma can
die because our lungs aren t meant to take in all those toxins in our bodies, and our bodies react in a
negative way when those toxins are put into the body. Our plants and animal have nothing to with
causing air pollution and they have to suffer because of humans who are polluting the air with carbon,
and greenhouse gases. They plants could be affected which the animals eat. Then the animals eat the
plants get affected and then we eat the animals which can get everyone sick and eventually die. If we
want to live longer and stay healthy we have to get rid of air pollution. ASAP.
Recent studies show that in 1982, approximately 1.2 million adults got lung cancer or died according
to Arden Pope III. The reason these people got sick and/or died is because of air pollution. People that
smoke cigarettes are more likely to get lung cancer, than people who don t smoke and the smokers are
causing pollution also. Their not only affecting themselves with pollution, but their affecting other
people s lives with the smoke that their releasing into the surface. For example myself. I have asthma

The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum by Heinrich Boll Essays
The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum by Heinrich Boll
Authors often use characters within their novels to show the consequences of challenging cultural
boundaries and, in turn, display their own personal concerns. It is not uncommon for characters to
reflect an author s ideology regarding social groups in their contemporary time periods. It is clear that
this is certainly the case with the 1975 novel The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, (also referred to as
How Violence Develops and Where it Can Lead), written by the German Author, Heinrich Boll. The
Lost Honour is, on the surface, an attack on yellow journalism and the damage it causes to the lives of

Bolls sympathy and admiration for economically lower class citizens, most likely due to the economic
hardship faced by his father, is presented through the hardworking nature of Blum. However, he also
shows the suspicion cast upon Blum because of her comfortable living standards as a result of her
independent ways. This suggests that he is concerned with people s inability to except rises in class
without assuming something sinister or unlawful has occurred in the process. Through the use of his
characters in The Lost Honour and Bolls personal life experiences we are able to see his concerns
regarding the cultural boundaries within Germany.
Boll has demonstrated a sympathetic leaning towards females through the lack of power and rights
given to his title character Katharina Blum in correlation with his own political views. It is clear that
within The Lost Honour it is Blum who we are supposed to sympathise with. This is clear through the
satirical tone used by the less then objective limited third person narrator. One of the things implied
about women, specifically Blum, repeatedly throughout the novel is the fact that they were created to
satisfy men s sexual needs and little else. An example of this is during the questioning of Blum about
her relationship with Gotten as Beizmenne allegedly asked Blum Well, did he fuck you? Blum

Explain Why William Became Involved in Wales in the Years...
June 2010 optional question 3 Explain why William became involved in Wales in the years 1066 to
1087 (12) Plan * Wanted to assert his authority over them * Had to keep Wales at bay because the
border kept shifting * Rebels that went against William went to Wales for safety The main reason that
William became involved in Wales shortly after he had taken England was because he would have
seen the Welsh as a threat. Along with many other countries, they would have known that the situation
in England was unstable and William may have thought Wales were planning an invasion. To assert
his authority over Wales, he led a campaign into their country in 1066 and an even larger one in 1081

Also, Scotland could provide refuge for anyone that had rebelled against William (including Edgar)
which would have furthered the tensions. The disputes of land had also caused problems for William.
Lands such as Cumbria and Northumbria were disputed between Malcolm and William. This became
worrying for William because parts of his kingdom were being threatened to be taken from him which
would give Malcolm more land and support against William. However, the threat of Scotland was not
as substantial as some historians make it out to be. In 1072, William marched through Scotland with
relative ease. Although Williams army was fearfully exposed according to Purser, the Scottish did not
capitalize on this opportunity. This could be interpreted as Malcolm showing he did not want to fight
against William. This point links into the treaty of Abernethy. In the same year Malcolm met William
at abernethy and signed a treaty which shown that he recognised William as his superior. According to
purser, in good faith , Malcolm kicked Edgar out of his court which would have made further
rebellions in the north very difficult. Overall, Scotland was initially a threat around the time of the
Northern rebellion however the treaty of Abernathy played a main factor in extinguishing the threat of

Free Will In Virgil s The Aeneid
Since the dawn of time, mankind has never been satisfied with this one life. There is always the
lurking mystery of what lies afterward; even with no scientific proof that there is anything awaiting
those who die, humans cannot accept that death is the end. The rich mythology of ancient Greek and
Roman culture includes many tales of a sprawling, often chaotic Underworld, with areas reserved for
those who have greatly sinned and are deserving of punishment as well for those who have been
blessed with paradise. In Virgil s The Aeneid, we see a world that is controlled by Fate and whether
somebody lives or dies, is punished or rewarded is left to the gods. Over one thousand years later,
Dante Alighieri took this idea and decided to write his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Aeneid, the skills that one had in life are utilized in death to serve as their own kind of
punishment. For example, Minos who was known to be just and fair during his life, now summons the
silent jury of the dead, he scans the lives of those accused (Virgil 6.499 501). There is an almost casual
element to the division of souls in this Underworld, which plays into the belief system of the time that
each individual on their own is not important; it is one s culture and heritage to which one must
subscribe entirely. Dante, on the other hand, is writing with a background that follows the belief that
individuals do matter, and their individual sins matter more than where they are from or their status in

Making Dating Work
Introduction
Do you know that saying rules are meant to be broken? Break these rules. This rules were made from
two women who are strongly misguided on what it takes to make a relationship flourish, contradicting
themselves as the chapters go on, as well as manipulating themselves and men in order to find a
husband. They build their knowledge on traditionally false pretenses on how to act, look, and keep a
man at your side. There is no right way to end up married. You can manipulate and censor yourself
like this book suggests, or you can go out into the dating world being who you are and hope that the
right one will come along. The best way to make dating work is to be knowledgeable about common

Fein and Schneider (1997) say, Let him take the lead. He declares love first, just as he picks most of
the movies, the restaurants, and the concerts the two of you go to (p. 85). This is not about tradition in
the author s eyes; this is about power in the relationship. Her contributions to the relationship are not
equal with his even though there may be a good outcome. Fein and Schneider (1997) see this as a
strategy to finally get a ring on her finger, not necessarily a happy relationship and they also include,
after he proposes, he will eventually meet all your friends and family. Until then, just follow his lead

Rates of Violence Introduction Crime, according to Emile Durkheim, is a normal component of
society. The iconic psychologist said that in the 19th century. But crime is considered abnormal in
England, the United States, and in Canada; this paper presents data on the three nations mentioned
above. United States Murder: According to the FBI, there were an estimated 14,748 individuals

19.9 percent in the Midwest and 15.6 percent in the Northeast. Aggravated Assault: Also in 2010,
there were an estimated 778,901 aggravated assaults in the United States, the FBI reports. That is a
decline by 4.1 percent from the year 2009, and a decline of 14.3 percent from 2001. There were
approximately 252.3 assaults per 100,000 people and 27.4 percent were carried out with hands, fists,

President Roosevelt s Response To The Great Depression
Imagine all of a sudden being out of a job and becoming bankrupt, and your country going into a
depression. In 1929 until the late 1930 s the Great Depression took place and many countries were
affected by it, the Great Depression was an economic depression. The cause of the Great depression
was the crash of the Stock Market in 1929. The Great Depression affected the US in a way that
increased unemployment by 25% and increased the amount of homeless people. In this essay I will be
analyzing the responses of President Franklin Roosevelt s administration to the problems of the Great
Depression. I will also be talking about how effective these responses were, and how they changed the
role of the federal government. I believe that the responses to the Great Depression were very
effective in bringing the country out of the Great Depression. The reason I believe that President
Roosevelt s response to the Great Depression was very effective was because of economic measures
that he took. These measures were known as The New Deal, which were designed to help bring our
country out of the depression we were facing. Some of the things that were enacted in the New Deal,
were the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Social Security Act, the Civil Works Administration, the
enacting of the Emergency Banking Act and the rejuvenation of the Farm Credit Act. All of these
corporations and acts were made to help create jobs and rebuild the Stock Market. Some of the

Ayn Rand s Anthem Essay
Ayn Rand s Anthem
In the novel Anthem by Ayn Rand there are many themes. These themes include love, desire, equality,
freedom, and individuality. Most of these themes are all shown by the majority of the characters in the
book, especially Equality 7 2521. One can see that the themes of love and individuality are very
important in the novel. The theme of love is shown between Equality 7 2521 and Liberty 5 3000. The
theme of individuality is shown by Equality 7 2521.
Anthem is a novel about a man, Equality 7 2521, who went against the laws to make his own
individual choices, to gain knowledge, and to love the woman of his choice. Equality 7 2521 lived in a

After Equality 7 2521 fled into the Uncharted Forests and became free from the councils he finds out
that Liberty 5 3000 had followed his footsteps to be with him. For the first time Liberty 5 3000 and
Equality
7 2521 made love. After this the two start to reject morals and ethics of their old society and make
their own. Later in their travels the Golden One and the Unconquered discover a house built in the
Unmentionable times.
At this house they get new names to show their new found freedom.
Equality 7 2521?s new name was Prometheus, this is because Prometheus taught men to be gods.
Liberty 5 3000?s new name was Gaea, this is because Gaea was the mother of rebirth and Liberty 5
3000 was the mother of a new society.
In Anthem love is a very important theme. The love between
Liberty 5 3000 and Equality 7 2521 was true, even though it is said ?what is not thought by all men
cannot be true?(Anthem, Page 81). Their love brought them for a civilization where the word ?I? did
not exist to a world of their own where they were free to do what they loved. Throughout their entire
relationship their love was forbidden, yet Liberty 5 3000 and
Equality 7 2521 broke the law for their love.
Individuality was also a major theme in the novel Anthem.
Equality7 2521 showed his individuality in many ways. Early in Equality

The Early Modern Era Between The 1500s And The 1800s
The timespan between the 1500s and the 1800s is commonly regarded as the Early Modern Era of
European history. This period directly follows the Middle Ages and ends around the time of the
French Revolution, which thereafter the modern period seemingly begins. This specific era consists of
profound and significant developments in Europe s economic history and here we can see the
beginnings of capitalism. This early modern period experienced important technological advances, the
Protestant Reformation and the decline of the Church, the formation of banking systems and savings,
nation state building, mercantilism and the beginnings of industrialization. The economic ideas that
emerged during this period are markedly different and some times at odds with those that prevailed
just right before during the Middle Ages. The early 1500 s began with a burst of economic activity,
which is largely credited to the important technological advances that occurred in Europe during this
time, which then led to relatively rapid economic, social and political changes throughout Europe.
The period preceding the Early Modern Era, the Middle Ages, reflects a society that is much different
to the world we see today. The Middle Ages can be characterized as a decentralized society where the
Church held great influence in both politics, economics and the society as a whole. The economy
placed much greater emphasis on agriculture, with Feudalism as the prevailing system of society.

Vivisection In The Island Of Dr. Moreau
A Victorian Nightmare
In The Island of Dr. Moreau, vivisection is the main conflict attributed to the novel. It is clearly an
ethical issue that lingers throughout the story. The novel s time period, the Victorian era, was a
spectacle of culture, innovation, and debate. The Victorians often believed in the roles of women being
less to that of man, and they also had beliefs about the common imperialistic moves of the British
Empire. The most common Victorian theme in the The Island of Dr. Moreau is vivisection. It plays a
key role in intertwining the Victorians views during that time into the novel. Using vivisection, Dr.
Moreau creates beast like people that roam the island that have to follow the law contributing to the
imperialism factor. In fact, the novel features many characters that makes the reader wonder one

With England colonizing at full throttle, many people had issues with it. Considering the loss of the
American colonies due to a remarkable rebellion, imperialism may have left a bitter taste into the
English s mouths with the debt that the Americans denied and the loss that the English took. Wells
projected the beast people similarly to the savages that the British feared. The racism in British
imperialism is there in every step of the way. The imperialism aspect of the novel was the second most
important theme which seems as if it could have been taken out all together and the book would have
been the same. When one looks at all the implicit suggestions in the novel, imperialism tends to
appear quite often. It may not have appeared as explicitly as vivisection, but the significance of
imperialism was clearly a big part of the

Lewis Mcgrath s Shannon And Apuleius The Golden Ass
A common theme found in both, Campbell McGrath s Shannon and Apuleius The Golden Ass, is
facing the consequences for venturing into the unknown. George Shannon and Lucius come face to
face with unique obstacles, for instance George s narrative long struggle to acquire any form of
comestible sustenance or Lucius being faced with the seemingly immoral task to murder a woman by
having sexual intercourse with her when he is in donkey form, that they must overcome. They used
their pride and determination, allowing them to trek onward in their paths. The men s situations differ
in the way that George is traveling into the uncharted area of the United States with the Corps of
Discovery and Lucius has an absurd fetish for the unusual and unknown. Both men experience pitfalls
to each of their own degrees, however, pass with time as the stories go on. The men of both narratives
experience crises, conjure up coping mechanisms to allow them to adapt briefly with their situations,
and experience success and failures with their methods.
George Shannon s venture into the unknown with these more experienced men proves to be quite the
challenge when he separates from the group. These men were more experienced in a way that they
were seasoned army veterans with great survival knowledge and tactics. George was on his own for
fifteen days in attempt to impress his fellow explorers, without food, a way to hunt, or any sense of
direction of where he is going to get back to the group. In the

the fact that this course really going to teach me a lot. I was really scared to take this class because
honestly I had no idea what Sociology is? I never took this class but my professor made it easy and he
made very clear that how we can keep an A in the class and what he expects from us. The first week of
the class was just about the syllabus and what chapter we gonna cover throughout the semester. In
total we studied nine chapter. They all helped me a lot to understand the true meaning of sociology
and why it is useful. The first chapter was The Social Imagination, The second chapter was Studying
the Social World, The third chapter was Social Interaction, The fourth chapter was Social Structure,
The Fifth chapter was Culture, Media and Communication, The sixth chapter was Power and Politics,
The seventh chapter was Social Stratification, Inequality and Poverty, The eight chapter was Race and
Ethnicity and last but not least was Gender and Sexuality. I will just discuss the what I found most
interesting, why they are important. First of all What is sociology? Really? I never asked this question
to myself until the first day of class. Sociology is the study of social behavior or society, including its
origins, development, organization, networks and institutions. It allows you to go to different paths, it

Revenge Of The Sith
Dust off your Jedi robes, get out your plastic light saber, prepare your popcorn, and brace yourself for
the light speed paced adventure Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Inarguably, the Star Wars franchise
has been the most influential and most beloved saga ever. Unfortunately, director George Lucas lost
his magic touch when it came time to write and film the Revenge of the Sith. With stiff writing and
prepubescent acting it was impossible for the incredible visuals of laser blaster fire and breathe taking
scenery, as well as jaw dropping action sequences to save the film. One will have to strain himself to
endure watching this three hour movie, yearning for the days of old when George Lucas didn t make
these mistakes.
In the Revenge of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With its amazing CGI (computer generated images) effects and the awe inspiring sound track the
Renege of the Sith lives up to every viewers expectations. However, when it comes to the acting and
dialog every fan of Star Wars has been let down. The acting comes across as childish and like it was
for a 3rd rate movie rather than a blockbuster. Hayden Christensen is out of his depth while acting for
this film. He is simply inferior to the other actors staring in the film. He and Natalie Porttman have no
chemistry on camera. This is brutal to the film because their romance is a crucial to the story plot and
especial crucial to Anakin s final fate. With almost no prior acting experience it perplexes the mind as
to why he was cast as the lead role in a multi million dollar film.
The Revenge of the Sith is an average movie when all things are considered. Though its dialog and
character interactions are disparagingly done, its visuals and sound track make up for these
shortcomings. The film, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, gets a 6.5/10. While it is not a particularly
good film, it is a nice film to watch with the family. When it comes down to it, it is an okay movie.
However, it is not a proper way to end the Star Wars

Analysis Of Vincent Van Gogh And The Oxbow
I have chosen Romanticism/ Post Impressionism, Olive Trees with yellow sky and sun, by Vincent
Van Gogh; The Oxbow, by Thomas Cole, comparing it to the Spirit Rising, by Christophe Vacher .
In my research / readings of my chosen Artist, I found a lot of information about them that I will
descibe individually. Based on the biography, It has been stated that Vincent was a most well known
post impressionism Artist, for whom color was the chief symbol of expression, he was highly
emotional, lacked self confidence and struggled with his identity and with direction. (Templeton Reid)
In the late 1800 s is when Vincent basically made the decision to become an Artist, in which he
wanted to provide some type of Happiness because he was able to create beauty (Templeton Reid). As
you review the art chosen above by Vincent Van Gogh, you will notice the colors used were dark i.e.
Greens, Oranges, Blues, with splashes of yellow to create the sun, which led me to believe that maybe
this was when he was in the dark place of his life. In the Van Gogh painting, I see big trees with the
nice bright sun shining over the blue water, while looking at the trees it makes me feel safe because of
the openness of the surrounding space, also the brightness of the sun and the coolness of the water
makes me calm and relaxed, it s just something about being in nature that gives me a sense of peace
and direction, nothing to distract or disturb me.
Research regarding The Oxbow by Thomas Cole was a

Pros And Cons Of Being An Esstj
When being a kid you change personalities a lot, but me I have not. I ve been a ESTJ (extraverted,
sensing, thinking, judging) person my whole life. I think being a ESTJ really describes me well. Being
a ESTJ means you are a joiner, you also like being the authority, they are very out spoken people too.
These things describe me perfectly. I love being in power, I also let people hear what s on my mind. I
love joining in on things too. As a ESTJ we love joining in on things. Since I was a kid I loved being
involved in on things. When I was like ten I loved being in as many things as possible. Just the feeling
of being apart of something was what I loved. I didn t care about the club itself. I just liked making
friends and talking to people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many ESTJs were in the authority position such as John D. Rockefeller, and George W. Bush. Just like
these men I love being in authority. Like a time when I was six my mom told me I could be in charge
of my two older sisters just so I would stop saying I never got to be in charge I really wasn t in charge.
When I was in charged of my sisters I used it to my advantage and said we were eating ice cream for
dinner. They said no of course, so they called my mom who was at work. She was busy at the time so
she said yes you guys have to eat ice cream for dinner. When I heard those words come out of her
mouth I knew that I had the power. Now being older I love the feeling of being power. The best part of
being in power is being able to say what you need to say. ESTJs hate just watching something bad
happen. If we see something bad we will call it out in a heartbeat. When I was younger I m not sure
what age I was I saw a man steal something at Target. I watch this man put this thing in his pants. As a
small child you wouldn t think much of this but I knew what was happening. I went up to this man and
told him to put it back nicely of course. Well the man told me to F off and said he was going to pay for
it. Later during the shopping trip I saw the man put back the Item and walk out. I after I saw this I felt
so good about it, ever since I love calling out

Lou Malnati s
Have you ever had a restaurant that had lots of memories, great food, and nice atmosphere with your
favorite restaurant . I have one and it is Lou malnati s. The first time I went, I was with my grandma
and we were looking for a place to eat, and we found Lou Malnati s and we have been going there
since then. I really like the place because of many reasons. One, is that they have the best deep dish
pizza, I ve had. Secondly, it has great service and atmosphere. Thirdly, is that I ve had great memories
of going with family and friends. That s why I love Lou Malnati s as my favorite restaurant.
What makes a pizza place without great food. Well Lou Malnati s has great deep dish pizza. I really
like the thick cheese and great red sauce. Also, the butter crust on the outside is really crunchy and
creamy tasting. Also, the salad is really good, where they have the fresh vegetables and those crunchy
croutons. After you re done with you main course, you can have the delicious cookie pizza. Its full of
ice cream, chocolate, and whip cream. It s all one tasty mess.
It s not just the food ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I remember that we always went there for a special occasion like winning a soccer game. I think that
Lou s has a lot with my memories an I. There was once was this time when I was little, I got cut very
badly and I had to go to the emergency room. I got around 4 stitches while I was in the hospital. But
after, I got to decide where we go for dinner and I choose Lou s.
Lou Malnati s is my favorite restaurant because it has great food, great atmosphere and service, and
the memories I have with them. In my opinion, Lou s has the best food around such as the deep dish
pizza. Other than the food, they have great servers and the atmosphere is golden. I have had great
memories at Lou s, and I m sure I will be making more with them. If I ever need to have great deep

  • 2. Rappaccini’s Daughter Women and Rappaccini s Daughter What are the attitudes of the young medical school student in Hawthorne s tale, Rappaccini s Daughter, toward women; of the author toward women; of other characters in the story toward women? Are women involved in basic plot development? This essay intends to answer these and other questions about women in the short story. Beatrice, Dr. Rappaccini s daughter, is the prime motivating force in the story. Giovanni s love for the beautiful daughter, mixed perhaps with pride, blinds him to various indications of her poisonous nature, to the evil nature of her father and to the intent of her father to involve the protagonist as a subject in his sinister experiment. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This may be expected since she is Italian. Or perhaps Hawthorne was conscious of moral responsibility in her portrayal; Sculley Bradley, Richmond Croom Beatty and E. Hudson Long in The Social Criticism of a Public Man state regarding the author: He was absorbed by the enigmas of evil and of moral responsibility (47). Giovanni in his room can hear the water gurgling in Dr. Rappaccini s garden, from an ancient marble fountain located in the center of the plants and bushes; of particular interest to Giovanni is one shrub in particular, set in a marble vase in the midst of the pool, that bore a profusion of purple blossoms, each of which had the lustre and richness of a gem. As striking as the plant of the purple gems is a tall, emaciated, sallow, and sickly looking man, dressed in a scholar s garb of black, who is busy in the garden, scientifically examining the plants in a detached and cautious manner as if walking among malignant influences, such as savage beasts, or deadly snakes, or evil spirits. • 3. Water Cycle And Its Effect On Earth I don t think that I could explain how important water is for life on earth to survive without first explaining what water is and how different it is than other substances. Water is unique in that it is the only natural substance that is found on earth as a liquid, solid and gas. The water cycle of the earth shows that it is constantly interacting, changing, and moving. The water cycle has five parts which are evaporation, condensation, precipitation, infiltration and surface run off. This water cycle is critical to life on earth as it provides potable water that all living organisms need. Water freezes at 32 degrees and boils at 212 degrees. Water s freezing and boiling points are the baseline with which temperature is measured on the Celsius scale. Water is lighter as a solid than a liquid. When water freezes it expands adding about 9% by volume. Retrieved from http://www.funology.com/facts about weather and nature/ (20141114) Fresh water has a maximum density at around 4° Celsius. Water is the only substance on this planet where the maximum density of its mass does not occur when it becomes a solid. Water is unusual in that in its solid form, ice, it is less dense than the liquid form. This is why ice floats and this fact is what allows life to exist in lakes and rivers during the winter months. The water in the seas and oceans contains a significant amount of salt that this lowers the freezing point of the water and no ice forms from the sea or ocean. The ice found in ... This painting was created out of oils. This fascinating piece of art uses light and color to depict its depth and space. Woman Holding a Balance has so much to interpret as far as depth and space through the form and structure of the artwork. This piece of art is formed from blue, gray, white, and yellow colors giving it a harmonious act to it. Vermeer created this piece of art as a woman holding a balance with her right hand. As we analyze this painting starting off from the top left portion, there is a window with light entering the space to which this woman is in. The window is covered by a yellow curtain. Next to the window is a dark, framed mirror, which is close to a black color. Underneath the mirror, Vermeer painted a table with gray and yellowish pearls laid down over it. There is also a dark blue piece of cloth resting on the top left portion of the table. Right in front of the table we have the woman holding the scale, and she is wearing a blue and white jacket with a hoodie that gently falls over to the sides of her head. In addition, on the far back part of the painting, right behind the woman, Vermeer painted The Last Judgment . The Last Judgement shows Christ with his arms extended on judgment day with people looking up at him from beneath. All this, as far as the window, table, pearls, woman, ... • 6. How To The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum I went to the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum for my art experience project. I was impressed with the amount of statues I was able to see in one place. A majority of them seem to have been created and donated by the Fredericks family themselves. As I said before the amount of statues in this little space is impressive, however my first impression is the feeling of claustrophobia. The statues are packed in fairly tight and the space overall doesn t seem to be well utilized. The room it was in did however provide an ample amount of natural light from the large windowed wall to the north. This coupled with the recessed lighting did a good job of lighting the statues facing the northern wall. Unfortunately though, some of the statues are facing the southern wall and lose a little detail to not being as well lit from only the recessed lighting. The contrast between well lit and dimly lit does lend to contrast in light and shadow for the statues facing the east and west walls. The contours of these statues are much more defined because of the line of contrast so they seem to draw me in the most. I also get this cold feeling, even though the floors are more of a warm/neutral color. I believe this is due to the lack of a large amount of the statues not being colored at all. The few that are colored are just antiqued bronze so they are mostly that powder blue/green color. The lack of color though, I feel, is intended to make a point. It seems as though the artist meant for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Totalitarianism In Animal Farm, By George Orwell In the book, Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, he portrayed to me a sense of repetition in the political process, that seems to eventually end in chaos or confusion, not witch truly sums up his view of a political process in the government. The main key points Orwell was trying to come through with the book was the meaning of totalitarianism. According to Classroom Synonym, totalitarian government is a single party dictatorship that controls all aspects of public and private life, which is most definitely portrayed in the book though the characters.Although throughout the essay I will be comparing this incredible analogy, through a realistic and nonrealistic viewpoint about totalitarianism; a bitter feud between the South Sudanese president and his vice president, and Emma Stone s character in present still truly connects through the twisted story of human nature in the movie the The Help . Eventually, by the end of this, you will see through various quotes from Animal Farm and researched articles and how today s political world, written by George Orwell. Although many countries are changing their way of political movements there is still totalitarianism in foreign countries. It occurs in North Korea, China, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia, and much more, according to Quora. This can be seen in the quoted words, Man serves the interest of no creature except himself. • 9. The Brain Sensory Input Of Different Modalities Essay The brain processes sensory input of different modalities simultaneously in cortical areas. Sensory information of different modalities is either processed independently before being integrated to provide an overall picture of our surroundings, or cross modal interaction occurs before integration. We compared visual evoked potentials (VEPs) evoked when attention is directed toward either visual or auditory stimuli and found no difference in mean P100 when attention was directed toward visual stimuli (2.41x10 5 ± 6.43x10 5 V, n=10) or auditory stimuli (1.68x10 5 ± 1.93x10 5 V, n=10). This evidence suggests that processing of visual information is unaffected by the concurrent processing of auditory information. Introduction The human brain receives input containing sensory information of different modalities from the surrounding environment. This information is processed in different areas of the brain that do not function in isolation and exhibit interactive plasticity (Roe et al., 1990). The processed information evokes activity in different cortical areas responsible for processing senses and is integrated to give coherent, detailed information (Molholm et al., 2002). Increasing attention to visual stimuli results in a stronger response at the neuronal level (Reynolds Chelazzi, 2004). The capability to retain working memory of a visual stimulus is enhanced when attention is fully focused on the stimulus compared to when objects in the periphery of focus act as ... • 10. Playing against a Computer or a Human Research Background and significance Individuals participating in an interaction perceive one another as rational agents who possess beliefs, desires and intentions that might be different than their own. Assumptions made about these mental states are used to interpret and predict behavior. Conferring such attributes to an agent (human, computer, whatever) has been described as adopting an intentional stance (Dennet, 1996). Adopting an intentional stance is part of our broader ability to mentalize which involves representing and attributing mental states to oneself and others. Research concerned with understanding the neural system of mentalizing has indentified a network of regions that minimally involve the temporoparietal region (TPJ) and the medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) (Abu Akel and Shamay Tsoory, 2011). However, it is not completely clear the extent to which humans readily mentalize (or adopt an intentional stance) with other humans or non humans (e.g., computers). Thus an important goal of this study is to investigate how the neural network associated with adopting an intentional stance is modulated under various interaction conditions in which the interacting partner and the context are varied. Several studies employing various interactive games have been conducted to uncover the neural basis involved in adopting an intentional stance. These studies followed a similar script according to which participants were led to believe that they are playing either against a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The knowledge and responsibility of women in ancient history pertained mainly to the preparation of food. Today, the writing of ancients and archeologists has given us insight about the foods that were eaten, and the manner in which they were prepared. Their climate, soil, and terrain of the region exposed that it was especially good for growing grains, legumes, beans, olive trees, and grape trees (Moulton 3). Critical Analysis Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken Critical Analysis of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken The speaker in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken gives the reader insight into human nature with each line of poetry. While, Frost had not originally intended for this to be an inspirational poem, line by line, the speaker is encouraging each reader to seek out his or her own personal path in the journey of life. Romanticizing the rural woods of New England creates the perfect setting for the theme of self discovery laid out and described by the speaker. Robert Frost s original intent in writing the poem was not to convey the inspiration that it has for almost a hundred years. He had written the poem to poke fun at his friend, Edward Thomas, with whom he had taken many walks. Thomas was hesitant and always wondering what would happen if he had chosen a different path (http://www.yoga.com/raw/readings/frost_road.html). In fact, Frost sent the poem to his friend, then in France, and got the response, ?What are you trying to do with me?? (http://www.libarts.sfasu.edu/Frost/PopPoems.html). However, Frost did see the impact the poem was having and stated, Do not follow where the path may lead?Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. The speaker communicates many things in the first stanza of the poem. The first line, ?Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,? uses imagery with the color yellow, the color of gold, to show that the speaker sees an opportunity ahead of him. The two roads symbolizes the choices and consequences he must choose. The next line, ?And sorry I could not travel both,? illustrates how difficult it is to make a choice. It is impossible not to wonder what could happen by choosing the other road and what he could be missing out on. ?And being one traveler long I stood,? shows how the speaker would like to be in two places at once. Unable to accomplish this, he takes a long time to decide on what he should do. Finally, the speaker describes studying the first option, looking as far into the future as he possibly could with the lines, ?And looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth.? The speaker continues to convey his message in the second stanza of ?The Road Not Taken.? In the opening line of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The rich mythology of ancient Greek and Roman culture includes many tales of a sprawling, often chaotic Underworld, with areas reserved for those who have greatly sinned and are deserving of punishment as well for those who have been blessed with paradise. In Virgil s The Aeneid, we see a world that is controlled by Fate and whether somebody lives or dies, is punished or rewarded is left to the gods. Over one thousand years later, Dante Alighieri took this idea and decided to write his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Minos who was known to be just and fair during his life, now summons the silent jury of the dead, he scans the lives of those accused (Virgil 6.499 501). There is an almost casual element to the division of souls in this Underworld, which plays into the belief system of the time that each individual on their own is not important; it is one s culture and heritage to which one must subscribe entirely. In 1929 until the late 1930 s the Great Depression took place and many countries were affected by it, the Great Depression was an economic depression. The cause of the Great depression was the crash of the Stock Market in 1929. The Great Depression affected the US in a way that increased unemployment by 25% and increased the amount of homeless people. In this essay I will be analyzing the responses of President Franklin Roosevelt s administration to the problems of the Great Depression. I will also be talking about how effective these responses were, and how they changed the role of the federal government. I believe that the responses to the Great Depression were very effective in bringing the country out of the Great Depression. The reason I believe that President Roosevelt s response to the Great Depression was very effective was because of economic measures that he took. These measures were known as The New Deal, which were designed to help bring our country out of the depression we were facing. Some of the things that were enacted in the New Deal, were the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Social Security Act, the Civil Works Administration, the enacting of the Emergency Banking Act and the rejuvenation of the Farm Credit Act. • 31. The Early Modern Era Between The 1500s And The 1800s The timespan between the 1500s and the 1800s is commonly regarded as the Early Modern Era of European history. This period directly follows the Middle Ages and ends around the time of the French Revolution, which thereafter the modern period seemingly begins. This specific era consists of profound and significant developments in Europe s economic history and here we can see the beginnings of capitalism. This early modern period experienced important technological advances, the Protestant Reformation and the decline of the Church, the formation of banking systems and savings, nation state building, mercantilism and the beginnings of industrialization. The economic ideas that emerged during this period are markedly different and some times at odds with those that prevailed just right before during the Middle Ages. The early 1500 s began with a burst of economic activity, which is largely credited to the important technological advances that occurred in Europe during this time, which then led to relatively rapid economic, social and political changes throughout Europe. The period preceding the Early Modern Era, the Middle Ages, reflects a society that is much different to the world we see today. The Middle Ages can be characterized as a decentralized society where the Church held great influence in both politics, economics and the society as a whole. The economy placed much greater emphasis on agriculture, with Feudalism as the prevailing system of society. What came with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Vincent Van Gogh And The Oxbow I have chosen Romanticism/ Post Impressionism, Olive Trees with yellow sky and sun, by Vincent Van Gogh; The Oxbow, by Thomas Cole, comparing it to the Spirit Rising, by Christophe Vacher . In my research / readings of my chosen Artist, I found a lot of information about them that I will descibe individually. Based on the biography, It has been stated that Vincent was a most well known post impressionism Artist, for whom color was the chief symbol of expression, he was highly emotional, lacked self confidence and struggled with his identity and with direction. (Templeton Reid) In the late 1800 s is when Vincent basically made the decision to become an Artist, in which he wanted to provide some type of Happiness because he was able to create beauty (Templeton Reid). As you review the art chosen above by Vincent Van Gogh, you will notice the colors used were dark i.e. Greens, Oranges, Blues, with splashes of yellow to create the sun, which led me to believe that maybe this was when he was in the dark place of his life. In the Van Gogh painting, I see big trees with the nice bright sun shining over the blue water, while looking at the trees it makes me feel safe because of the openness of the surrounding space, also the brightness of the sun and the coolness of the water makes me calm and relaxed, it s just something about being in nature that gives me a sense of peace and direction, nothing to distract or disturb me. • 43. Pros And Cons Of Being An Esstj When being a kid you change personalities a lot, but me I have not. I ve been a ESTJ (extraverted, sensing, thinking, judging) person my whole life. I think being a ESTJ really describes me well. Being a ESTJ means you are a joiner, you also like being the authority, they are very out spoken people too. These things describe me perfectly. I love being in power, I also let people hear what s on my mind. I love joining in on things too. As a ESTJ we love joining in on things. Since I was a kid I loved being involved in on things. When I was like ten I loved being in as many things as possible. Just the feeling of being apart of something was what I loved. I didn t care about the club itself. I just liked making friends and talking to people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many ESTJs were in the authority position such as John D. Rockefeller, and George W. Bush. Just like these men I love being in authority. Like a time when I was six my mom told me I could be in charge of my two older sisters just so I would stop saying I never got to be in charge I really wasn t in charge. When I was in charged of my sisters I used it to my advantage and said we were eating ice cream for dinner. They said no of course, so they called my mom who was at work. She was busy at the time so she said yes you guys have to eat ice cream for dinner. When I heard those words come out of her mouth I knew that I had the power. Now being older I love the feeling of being power. The best part of being in power is being able to say what you need to say. ESTJs hate just watching something bad happen. If we see something bad we will call it out in a heartbeat. When I was younger I m not sure what age I was I saw a man steal something at Target. I watch this man put this thing in his pants. As a small child you wouldn t think much of this but I knew what was happening. I went up to this man and told him to put it back nicely of course. Well the man told me to F off and said he was going to pay for it. Later during the shopping trip I saw the man put back the Item and walk out. I after I saw this I felt so good about it, ever since I love calling out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
